- 0:55the colonies took a decisive step from protest
- 0:58to purpose. The resolution creating the Continental
- 1:02Army transformed scattered militias into one
- 1:06body a people united under providence ready to
- 1:10defend the cause of freedom it was not a declaration
- 1:14of conquest but of conscience an army born not
- 1:19of ambition but of necessity to protect the rights
- 1:23of men and the honor of god the delegates gathered
- 1:28in philadelphia knew the hour was grave Conflict
- 1:31was already happening and had erupted at Lexington
- 1:34and Concord. The question before them was simple.
- 1:38Would they stand together or fall apart? On June
- 1:4214, 1775, they resolved that a Continental Army
- 1:47be formed for the defense of the American liberty.
- 1:51With that vote, 13 colonies became one cause,
- 1:54and the next day they appointed George Washington
- 1:58as Commander -in -Chief. a man whose humility
- 2:02matched his valor imagine the scene farmers tradesmen
- 2:07and patriots from every colony now brothers in
- 2:12arms they carried muskets and prayers courage
- 2:15and conviction they fought not for empire but
- 2:20for principle that all men are created equal
- 2:23and endowed by their creator with certain unalienable
- 2:27rights the continental army was more than soldiers
- 2:31it was the embodiment of faith and action the
- 2:36congress opened its session with prayer seeking
- 2:39divine guidance for this new army they believed
- 2:42that victory would come not by might alone but
- 2:45by righteousness their resolution was both military
- 2:49and spiritual a covenant of courage under god

- 3:13to unified force, a people standing together

- 3:31250 years of faith and freedom. A people in crisis.
- 3:38In the spring of 1775, the colonies stood at
- 3:43a crossroads. Blood had been shed at Lexington
- 3:46and Concord militias from New England. Had gathered
- 3:51outside Boston. Resolute yet unorganized. Brave
- 3:56yet. without a single command. The question before
- 4:01the Continental Congress was no longer theoretical.
- 4:05If liberty was to be defended, it must be defended
- 4:10together. The Congress deliberates. On June 14,
- 4:171775, the delegates rose to meet the moment with
- 4:23solemnity and purpose. They resolved. That a
- 4:29continental army be formed for the defense of
- 4:31American liberty. This was no small act. It was
- 4:37the first time the colonies bound themselves
- 4:39to a common military. Cause 13 distinct provinces
- 4:45became one people. United not by force, but by
- 4:51conviction. A unified army. The resolution called
- 4:58for the enlistment of men from every colony,
- 5:01forming regiments under the authority of Congress.
- 5:06No longer would the struggle rest on the shoulders
- 5:09of Massachusetts alone. The defense of freedom
- 5:13became the duty of all. The Congress declared
- 5:19that these forces were to be maintained at public
- 5:21expense. supplied by the United Colonies, and
- 5:27governed by rules of discipline fitting for an
- 5:30army, acting in the name of a continent, Washington
- 5:35called to lead. The very next day, the delegates
- 5:41unanimously chose George Washington of Virginia
- 5:44as commander -in -chief his character, humility,
- 5:49and devotion to Providence. made him the natural
- 5:53choice. He accepted the command with reluctance,
- 5:58refusing any salary beyond the reimbursement
- 6:02of his expenses. Thus, the Continental Army was
- 6:10born, not from ambition, but from necessity,
- 6:15not from pride, but from duty. a people under
- 6:22Providence. The Congress knew the weight of what
- 6:26they had done. They prayed earnestly for God's
- 6:30guidance, believing that the cause of liberty
- 6:34was righteous, only if it remained under his
- 6:37authority. The formation of the Continental Army
- 6:42was more than a military act. It was a declaration
- 6:47of unity, courage, and faith a covenant among
- 6:53the colonies to stand together in the face of
- 6:57danger a turning point in history from this resolution
- 7:04would rise the army that endured valley forge
- 7:07crossed the delaware and secured the independence
- 7:12of a nation but on june 14 1775 None of that
- 7:21was yet known. What was known was this. A people
- 7:27had chosen to stand. A Congress had chosen to
- 7:32lead. And a nation, though unborn, had taken
- 7:37its first breath. The resolution was formally
- 7:41issued by order of the Congress and authenticated.
- 7:49by the presiding officer, John Hancock, President
- 7:55of the Continental Congress. As we remember June
- 8:0214, 1775, may we honor those who stood when standing
- 8:07was costly. May we too be soldiers of faith,
- 8:11steadfast, humble, and resolute. For liberty
- 8:15is never born in ease, it is forged in conviction.
- 8:18sustained by sacrifice, and preserved by grace.
- 8:22Thank you for joining me today. May the Lord
- 8:25bless you, and may He continue to guide this
- 8:28nation in truth and freedom. I'm Pastor David.
