[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, welcome to M&P and I'm gonna build my best I'm Conor and that's out of the career I'm fresh off six hours of sleep after Columbia Who's Becca Stan last night?
0:16
[SPEAKER_00]: I stayed up.
0:17
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I got the fever I should have watched Austria the other night because that's my I guess that's kind of
0:25
[SPEAKER_01]: The closest thing I have to, you know, I'm sort of a nut, like I'm part Austrian German Scottish Irish Croatian, but like I'm more Austrian than anything else, I'm largely part because my mom is actually from there.
0:41
[SPEAKER_01]: So, and even she's not 100% she's a quarter of Croatian, so like I did not, I was not going to stay up for a midnight start, but I have gotten into it.
0:56
[SPEAKER_00]: We have the England thing was cool.
0:58
[SPEAKER_00]: We have sick kids at home still.
1:00
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I would say like rivaling only when one of my kids was born during my first kid was born during the World Cup, it's great to have sick kids now because you're up anyway at midnight, 12.30.
1:18
[SPEAKER_00]: and so you can just like either rewatch the games from earlier that you missed it like noon because we're actually functional adults and we're doing things or you can catch like a country like who's back to stand it's like the first time in the world cup and you just seeing these guys like totally blown away by the moment they tie it up against Columbia but then up losing but it's like there's something like I don't know like I like having it on the
1:46
[SPEAKER_01]: I just like when I'm working.
1:47
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we cover the NFL and and you know, we're obviously very blessed to do that, but it is such a ring culture.
1:54
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a fit check culture.
1:57
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like Joe Burrow walking into the stadium in a $30,000 jacket and we're all just lucky to be there kind of thing.
2:03
[SPEAKER_00]: It was back to stand.
2:04
[SPEAKER_00]: You just see these guys like crying their eyes out to hear the national anthem played and
2:10
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the circumstances by which, you know, they became a country again, and like crazy stuff.
2:16
[SPEAKER_00]: And Cabo Verde, which is, we did the math and our husband's group chat, the other day, the team that tied Spain, they are the size of Newark and Jersey City combined.
2:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
2:27
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's like two little, little hard stuff.
2:29
[SPEAKER_00]: So Texas.
2:31
[SPEAKER_01]: That was the one I looked up because I wanted to do that too and I looked up and like I'll pass out Texas has something like 363,000 people in it Which is I think Cape Bird A is or is the Cape Bird I've heard conflicting.
2:45
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like they're they're listed as like cobbled, which I guess is Cape right cobbled very cool trees right what's that is for trees.
2:54
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's also coast of Africa
2:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I thought I didn't know if it was like I because I think I don't want to screw this up.
3:03
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to let you talk, so it's like screw up who they were a colony of or whatever you know what I mean.
3:10
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I didn't dig that deep into it.
3:11
[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe I'm confiding that with the A source because the A source are important to use, right?
3:15
[SPEAKER_01]: So I got it.
3:16
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.
3:17
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like if you're staring at an Americanized map, what you basically do is you head to like Senegal, and then you bang a hard left into the ocean for about 300 miles, and then you've arrived it.
3:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Cabo Verde, but like since it looks incredible by the way by the pictures too.
3:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that that this world cup is done a lot for Cabo Verde tourism I'll just say that on many fronts, but the
3:46
[SPEAKER_00]: the whole thing is like refreshing and I think that's what I dig about it is like the fact that you know some of these guys are very clearly not like full-time soccer players you know and you know it's not like quite the rags to ridges stories it used to be where you'd have like an auto mechanic in the 1950s playing in the world cup but like
4:05
[SPEAKER_00]: you know 40-year-old goleys and like all this ridiculous they have a team just like stringing it together with gum and shoe leather and I don't know I think that's my favorite part of it and the fact that it's on literally all day which I you know I think that they took some stuff from the NFL with the hydration breaks because they basically packed in a
4:27
[SPEAKER_01]: But then they say like, yeah, the Fox is going to make billions off of the hydration but it breaks or something like, there was somebody had a number that they threw out there.
4:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm sure that there's probably no question.
4:38
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not only that, right, but I think what they did.
4:44
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm wondering if this is like an NFL-Eyes version of the World Cup, because what they did was they understood the American audience really well, and it's that we're used to gluttonous TV behavior.
4:57
[SPEAKER_00]: We want some, like, on Sundays, we want football on the goddamn day.
5:03
[SPEAKER_00]: We wanted on international, we wake up at nine.
5:07
[SPEAKER_00]: We want my Toreco at nine o'clock at night.
5:09
[SPEAKER_00]: Like we wanted on for nine in the morning until midnight.
5:14
[SPEAKER_00]: in the Americas.
5:16
[SPEAKER_00]: You could cut it up through every time zone, basically.
5:20
[SPEAKER_00]: And you could start your coverage at 11, and then you got a two, and then you got a six, and then you got a nine, and then you got a midnight.
5:28
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's great.
5:29
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the, you know, the midnight game actually.
5:34
[SPEAKER_01]: So again, like the Austria Jordan game, which is a midnight on the East Coast, was 9 p.m. in San Francisco.
5:46
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you were in Vienna, you were waking up.
5:48
[SPEAKER_01]: You had to watch Austria play.
5:50
[SPEAKER_01]: It's first World Cup game in however many years it's six in the morning.
5:53
[SPEAKER_00]: Which by the way, I've seen like a bunch of people, you know, I've seen a lot of complaining where it's like, if you don't live here, it's like, oh, wow, I got to wake up at four or four o'clock in the morning to watch my country play.
6:05
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, yeah, dude, that's been us.
6:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Nice.
6:08
[SPEAKER_01]: like every year it saved for 1994 since the beginning of time so yeah like we all got to do our turn here you know it's not like uh it's not like uh we're sitting here on easy street so I'm also like I guess I'm also like kind of a simple American and then I like I've I've loved seeing everybody else discover our country and um you know it's really interesting because like their reaction
6:33
[SPEAKER_01]: to the stadiums, like I saw, like I don't know if he saw it on Twitter, but somebody was like, this stadium is amazing.
6:40
[SPEAKER_01]: And it was like a pan shot of met life stadium.
6:44
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm thinking of myself, God, wait till you see the other places, but I sort of had that experience going over there.
6:53
[SPEAKER_01]: Because when I, I've taken the kids to a few soccer games in England and France and like I,
7:00
[SPEAKER_01]: their stadiums are very basic like even Emirates, which is like, I think less than 20 years old is where arsenal plays is considered like one of the more modern stadiums over there.
7:10
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the concourses are like, it looks like a middle school hallway compared to what we have.
7:15
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
7:16
[SPEAKER_01]: Like so like I think there's that, but there's also like them
7:22
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I saw a video this morning of people from like five different countries eating Chick-fil-A sandwich.
7:28
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
7:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Like there's stuff like that.
7:30
[SPEAKER_01]: That's really, really cool too.
7:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I will say one of my favorite things.
7:35
[SPEAKER_01]: So by the way, like based on like it'll be funny based on their diets.
7:39
[SPEAKER_01]: How all of our food makes them feel?
7:44
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think this is a good time to clear something up.
7:47
[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, you have to be careful when you're on social media because now people are picking up on the trend of people.
7:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Now it's a America and so like someone at the other day kind of got down the the alley with an only fans creator who like very smartly not me, she very wisely kind of picked up on the what was going on.
8:11
[SPEAKER_00]: And then was just like, oh, I love ranch dressing and everyone's like, oh, wow, isn't this cool?
8:15
[SPEAKER_00]: And then like, it's like, oh, Lincoln, bio and it's like, oh, boy, okay, never mind, that's a tough one.
8:22
[SPEAKER_00]: So just be careful, like if, you know, some of the stuff you're attaching your wholesome thoughts to is actually just a thought, not a wholesome thought.
8:30
[SPEAKER_00]: Get it, you see what I did there, come on, that was good.
8:34
[SPEAKER_00]: That was good.
8:36
[SPEAKER_00]: But there's the debate over portion size.
8:39
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is something that drives me absolutely insane even when I have people who I love dearly who live in other countries come and visit and they're just like the portion sizes here are out of control and it's so funny because
9:00
[SPEAKER_00]: you take it home like that's that's the beauty of a gigantic portion size like if you go to lunch and the portion size is big you ask for a box and you take it home and then you crush it for dinner so you get the great meal you get two bites at the great meal and I think that is something that I love about this like you do not fathom you know I love that that's what you took a sense to the guy who gets double dinner at like big NFL events like
9:27
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm just saying like me, yeah, yes, I'm a double dinner order all you know, and you know, I once I quit drinking I was like, I need to live life to the fullest in other ways, and so I would actually like to try.
9:38
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that became my vice.
9:41
[SPEAKER_00]: But the idea that like,
9:45
[SPEAKER_00]: like we are out of control because we have large portions.
9:49
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like wouldn't you want more for the amount of money that it costs?
9:53
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't understand the criticisms and I don't know.
9:57
[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm glad that everybody's having a good time here.
10:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Even the Swedish only fans grow with the ranch dressing.
10:03
[SPEAKER_00]: I think she's having a good time.
10:04
[SPEAKER_01]: I do think there's something to like
10:08
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, with like everything I'd say over the last like decade or so where everyone hates each other and everyone else's countries suck and all that.
10:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Like there is something like this like genuinely, and yeah, it's probably a little corny, but there is something cool about seeing the world come together in our country like this, you know, especially, especially.
10:33
[SPEAKER_00]: because and there's a couple good reddit threads about this actually, especially because
10:40
[SPEAKER_00]: our news media does a horrible job of reflecting us to the rest of the world and I know I see it because I family that lives abroad right where I'll get calls on like a random Tuesday and I'm just sitting on the beach and it's like oh my god are you okay and I was like what what happened and it's just like oh well I heard like the voting's canceled and I was just like
11:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, like, you know, and maybe it will be, I don't know, like, you know, we haven't gotten there yet, but it's like, you know, and so I think people came here with this idea that we're in the middle of this fiery, you know, civil war and it just goes to show that like,
11:25
[SPEAKER_00]: meeting people and talking to them in person versus what a bunch of bots are saying on the internet and And then how that's reflected into like our mainstream news culture is very refreshing because I think we're coming out of here I want to separate Government and people American people are coming out of the world cup looking pretty sunny.
11:47
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just saying that like I think the name of it is I want to get this right I think it's the pine wood
11:54
[SPEAKER_01]: Deli, it's a deli in Jersey, and it's this guy who, I mean, like you couldn't fake how Jersey this guy is you know what I mean like and like he's the guy at the deli who can put together this complex sandwich and like three moves you know what I mean like he's like a he's like a sandwich ninja you know what I mean.
12:19
[SPEAKER_01]: And, like, there's been a few videos of people going in there and meeting him, and like he wouldn't think of like that guy as being like, like the ambassador for America, but in a lot of ways like these people are ambassadors now, you know, and I don't know.
12:35
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's stuff really cool to see.
12:38
[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
12:38
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, Mr. Deli guy if I screwed up the name of your Deli, and I'll get the, I'll, I'll find the name of it by the end of the podcast.
12:47
[SPEAKER_00]: I just got my Deli guy to start putting fried hash browns on my egg and cheese on my bacon egg and cheese.
12:58
[SPEAKER_00]: Forget about it.
12:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Jersey's got, Jersey's, Jersey's really good for Deli's.
13:02
[SPEAKER_00]: We are lapping the world in the breakfast sandwich.
13:04
[SPEAKER_00]: That's for sure.
13:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Alright.
13:06
[SPEAKER_01]: Poor Deli.
13:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Park with Deli.
13:08
[SPEAKER_00]: So today, we'll do more.
13:11
[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't ring a bell, but I got my, everybody's got theirs, you know, like I'm not going somewhere else because I got mine the way that I wanted you know what I mean it's it's yeah it's middle Midland park New Jersey, I think that's it's not far right anyway today and I got I'm getting awesome in this star ledger headline, by the way, you're welcome America.
13:37
[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway.
13:38
[SPEAKER_00]: Park would Delhi.
13:40
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm getting a bunch of pictures as we're taping this.
13:43
[SPEAKER_00]: One of my very great buddies is at the next championship parade.
13:47
[SPEAKER_00]: He brought his kids tracked through like, it is shut down.
13:52
[SPEAKER_00]: New York City is shut down right now.
13:57
[SPEAKER_00]: But watching the
14:05
[SPEAKER_00]: What are you?
14:06
[SPEAKER_00]: You're not that Boston.
14:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Come on.
14:09
[SPEAKER_01]: You're not so Boston that I actually I came to like the team.
14:13
[SPEAKER_01]: I hated Carl Anthony Towns last year Then he did this stuff with his mom.
14:17
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's like, man, like I can't hate him anymore.
14:19
[SPEAKER_01]: My mean, you got to know him.
14:22
[SPEAKER_00]: You mean you hated him and then you got to know him if you didn't hate him.
14:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know it works for me in a lot of cases, but
14:30
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, you know, bruncin like kind of came off as gruff at first.
14:34
[SPEAKER_01]: So the team is actually the team itself is really likable.
14:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they'll be able to know but thing all of that.
14:39
[SPEAKER_01]: But, uh, the celebrity fans and the owner, the owner like trying to capture the moment to like become likable too and a really blatant way.
14:49
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah.
14:50
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's always going to happen, but hey, Bobby Crap was there.
14:54
[SPEAKER_00]: He couldn't help but stick his foot right there on that.
14:57
[SPEAKER_00]: And deservedly so he should have gotten his ass out of there.
15:00
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's part of the problem, right?
15:03
[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's not the next have nothing to do with that.
15:07
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, James Dolan does allocate the seats, the celebrity seats.
15:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but at some point and we've talked about this on the show at some point that it reaches a crescendo where so many assholes get in on it that it's impossible to keep them away and so at least I will give Dolan credit for this right.
15:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Mariska Hargitay from Law and Order was still front and center.
15:32
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, she didn't get bumped off by, you know, I don't know, Elton John flying into town and just saying he all of a sudden wants to be a next fan.
15:39
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they did a decent job with a few exceptions at, at keeping it real like Spike Lee never got bumped, Tracy Morgan never got bumped like Ben Stiller never got bumped.
15:50
[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted to like the Ben Stiller thing until a cell phone.
15:54
[SPEAKER_01]: I do like Ben Stiller.
15:59
[SPEAKER_01]: I, I've recently watched my team win a championship or, you know, like, I, it's a, yeah, it's right up there.
16:08
[SPEAKER_01]: The tickets right up there.
16:09
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, like, so I was in the stadium for it.
16:13
[SPEAKER_01]: I did take some videos.
16:15
[SPEAKER_01]: I may have shot a video with a buddy of mine, a mutual friend, where we're mutual friends with Rich Eisen sent him like a little message on the night of the championship.
16:24
[SPEAKER_01]: But for the most part,
16:27
[SPEAKER_01]: The last thing I was doing was sitting was having my cell phone out that night in Atlanta.
16:31
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, so that I don't know.
16:34
[SPEAKER_01]: There's just something about that part of it, which, and again, I really love me the parents all that.
16:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I generally enjoy then still or but like, the cell phone thing bugged me for some reason.
16:47
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
16:48
[SPEAKER_01]: And I was ready to buy into him as a real fan, the cell phone thing bugged me.
16:53
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he is shooting a documentary and so I think that's part of it.
16:55
[SPEAKER_01]: But like that's kind of cheesy, too, isn't it?
16:59
[SPEAKER_00]: That you're using found, it's almost like found footage of you being on the court in that moment for the documentary.
17:07
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's going to be a shot in the documentary, but I agree.
17:10
[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know, I only disagree that I don't really like meet the parents.
17:12
[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, I mean, the best, the best example of this was
17:18
[SPEAKER_01]: LeBron, I think it was, I think it was, it was either Colby or LeBron.
17:22
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was LeBron breaking the scoring record in the NBA.
17:26
[SPEAKER_01]: And do you ever see that shot where everyone in the crowd has their phone up?
17:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right?
17:32
[SPEAKER_01]: Except for Phil Knight.
17:34
[SPEAKER_01]: And Phil Knight is sitting there.
17:36
[SPEAKER_01]: One of the wealthiest people in the country is sitting there and just watching.
17:40
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I was like, why do you need the picture?
17:46
[SPEAKER_01]: I think about that all the time with my kids right it's like being in a concert
17:51
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, take one video fine, but when you're shooting the whole entire concert, like, what are you going to do with that?
17:57
[SPEAKER_01]: Put it up on your Instagram story so you can show everybody to make everybody jellously or they, I don't know, it's just anyway.
18:03
[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's whole other podcast.
18:05
[SPEAKER_00]: That's a whole other podcast.
18:06
[SPEAKER_00]: I got to get this thing back on the rails.
18:08
[SPEAKER_00]: That's my job.
18:09
[SPEAKER_00]: So we, we had fun doing this, um, my, uh, my other podcast, he'd the call talking a little bit about it.
18:15
[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to flesh out the conversation to is like NFL wise.
18:20
[SPEAKER_00]: who can be the nicks and and and I think that the interesting kind of other part of this Albert is like can there be a nicks in the NFL and and so I think it's first important to define what we mean here okay this is a historically well-begon franchise they went 52 years without a title.
18:44
[SPEAKER_00]: they are, you know, I think really for decades set the high water mark for futility for ownership making high profile mistakes for the owner being incredibly unlikable.
19:00
[SPEAKER_00]: for the team washing through era of aging star after aging star, we had the amari start of my era, we had the Carmelo Anthony era, you know, all these things that just never quite came to fruition, but a loyal fan base.
19:16
[SPEAKER_00]: And to me,
19:18
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there's probably only a small handful of teams, the jets, the browns, the lions to some degree, although the lions have gotten better, maybe the bills that those damn bases kind of have that taste in that field.
19:35
[SPEAKER_00]: But before we get into who we think could be, the nicks of the NBA, I wanna put it to you this way.
19:42
[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think it's possible?
19:43
[SPEAKER_00]: Because NBA is smaller rosters, right?
19:48
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if you were good decisions, whereas in NFL, the roster size is so big that you have to turn over so many things, the back office is so big that if you have people back there who aren't rowing in the right direction, you got to weed those people out, find those people get rid of them.
20:16
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's fortunes really to stir forth here there.
20:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Some like that, right?
20:21
[SPEAKER_01]: Since 2022.
20:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, since 2022.
20:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so the fourth year is his fourth year.
20:26
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
20:26
[SPEAKER_01]: And so really, I mean, the sooner, really to this historically, you and I, like, off air and it, it's hard.
20:33
[SPEAKER_01]: I would say like in one sense,
20:36
[SPEAKER_01]: The nicks are more or built more like an NFL team just in that to be a great NFL team you have to get more things right than in the ND right I think right and the nicks like the way they were built the way Leon rose and and worldwide west the way they built that was like a little like they had to get more things right because they didn't have the cheat code of
21:04
[SPEAKER_01]: But down on the flip side, it's really like the equivalent of an MBA superstar is the quarterback right like and so can you do it without having a great quarterback so like would the ravens like their two builds right like when they got it's on a things right and there was a real identity to their teams like what that be the historical comp
21:25
[SPEAKER_01]: like what the Ravens have been able to do and just kind of creating the image of what they want to be and then finding guys that fulfill that image over and over and over again.
21:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and they had good quarterbacks for moving out great quarterbacks when they won those championships, Trent Delph, for the first time, Joe Flacco, the second time.
21:43
[SPEAKER_01]: So those would be examples of it like the giants or a little bit that way too.
21:47
[SPEAKER_01]: No dude disrespect to Eli, but you know like they were a team that had that sort of identity and image and just poured into that image that they that they were trying to build.
22:07
[SPEAKER_01]: to like the pre, like it's almost like the, the Joe Gibbs ride skins were that way.
22:13
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
22:14
[SPEAKER_01]: Like where they were able to kind of build it a certain way and get so many things right.
22:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, I don't know, it's hard.
22:22
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, you mentioned the giants of now, I mean the seven and eleven teams may be the giants of like 1991.
22:32
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and that's what's crazy.
22:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and again, I think you could fall into the trope of like, you know, okay, like, team without a quarterback.
22:45
[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, I'm wondering, is either of the sea like the 2013 sea hawks, like is that an example of a team?
22:54
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that is the argument, you kind of refuted it with the 15 Broncos because you had such a diminished version of Peyton.
23:02
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, yeah, I think it's hard, right?
23:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Because so they didn't win based on like Patence greatness.
23:09
[SPEAKER_01]: They won because they certainly did not.
23:10
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
23:11
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they'll although Patence want to initially raise the bar and turn them into a destination, which is how they got free agents and all that, right?
23:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Which that would be the argument against it.
23:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
23:21
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's what complicates it where it would be like, let's say, you know,
23:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Manning like let's say that the nicks won this title and like LeBron was a very small part of this team, but It's horrible the fact that like you know, it's it's LeBron right and so everybody's gonna be like oh my god Oh my god.
23:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
23:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
23:42
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and so I think that's an interesting backdrop to
23:48
[SPEAKER_00]: the central question, which is like, who could become the next nix in the NFL or who could become the next in the NFL?
23:59
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll preface it by saying this, it's going to take years.
24:03
[SPEAKER_00]: It took the next years.
24:06
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to do these each, right?
24:07
[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to do two of these.
24:09
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
24:10
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I'm gonna let you go first.
24:12
[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to go first.
24:13
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
24:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I God, this is good.
24:17
[SPEAKER_00]: I have one that's gonna be tougher.
24:18
[SPEAKER_01]: One, but it's not for right now.
24:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
24:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
24:22
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
24:22
[SPEAKER_01]: My favorite one because the history matches up.
24:25
[SPEAKER_01]: I think almost perfectly.
24:27
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know if you could guess.
24:29
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give you one guess.
24:30
[SPEAKER_00]: But the history matches up really, really well.
24:33
[SPEAKER_00]: So the next, it was what 52 years between titles.
24:38
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're talking about a team that last won the Super Bowl in like the mid 70s, or I guess, eight 60s.
24:53
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, are we talking about the jets?
24:56
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, dolphins, dolphins.
24:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, sure, sure, sure, sure.
25:00
[SPEAKER_01]: OK, so like, here's the argument I would make.
25:03
[SPEAKER_00]: This is, I actually like this a lot.
25:05
[SPEAKER_01]: OK, so here's the dolphins.
25:07
[SPEAKER_01]: OK, and I think people realize when I go through the checklist.
25:12
[SPEAKER_01]: So they had an iconic group in the early 70s that won twice.
25:16
[SPEAKER_01]: OK, they obviously had, and they just
25:23
[SPEAKER_01]: this group of players that will be remembered forever and that group of players elevated the brand to a point where the Miami Dolphins became like a flagship franchise because they came around at just the right time the same way those early 70s next did right right is this sport was starting to really get rolling in game popularity here are the Miami Dolphins right then in the 80s they get a singular superstar
25:51
[SPEAKER_01]: Dan Marino and Miami, Patrick Ewing, in New York.
25:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
25:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it, that superstar keeps getting them close.
26:00
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, knocking on the door, knocking on the door, knocking on the door, then in the 90s, they bring in an iconic coach to put them over the top.
26:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Pat Riley and New York, Jimmy Johnson and Miami.
26:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Both of those guys failed to do it, right?
26:21
[SPEAKER_01]: then they go into the malaise.
26:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Except there are, there is a little weird blip in there.
26:27
[SPEAKER_01]: For the dolphins, it's the wild cat in 08.
26:30
[SPEAKER_01]: For the Nexus Lin Sanity in 10, where it's just this unexplainable thing that takes their league by storm for a short period of time.
26:38
[SPEAKER_01]: And it sort of becomes like an illustration of how it's chut, like how bad it's been there for so long.
26:51
[SPEAKER_01]: these places have been seen as destinations for free agents, right?
26:55
[SPEAKER_01]: So everybody wants to go play for the next, but that Peter's out over time because the next damage is the next brand is taken on so much damage, right?
27:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Same thing with Miami, right?
27:08
[SPEAKER_01]: Like Miami was a destination for player to take on so much damage.
27:13
[SPEAKER_01]: You could even say like they they and this would be stretching it a little bit, but the dog they both played an iconic stadiums for their sport.
27:22
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
27:22
[SPEAKER_01]: That's in square garden.
27:23
[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
27:24
[SPEAKER_01]: For for the next the orange bull is I mean, chronic levels of the sport.
27:30
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously they don't they haven't played their since the late 80s, but thought you follow me there like they also had an iconic home.
27:38
[SPEAKER_01]: And then.
27:51
[SPEAKER_00]: You and I'm not saying I don't want you to take this the wrong way because I'm not suggesting that you were a guy who doesn't do your homework.
27:58
[SPEAKER_00]: This is like one of those times where like a kid who doesn't speak up in class a lot absolutely blows the doors off the presentation.
28:01
[SPEAKER_00]: And the teacher is just like, holy shit, I didn't know Albert could do that, you know, well done.
28:04
[SPEAKER_00]: You lost me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with me with
28:15
[SPEAKER_01]: But even that, even that one, like that one could be the, we saw something that no one else did.
28:22
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to take it.
28:23
[SPEAKER_01]: If it works out, that's just I'm just saying that's why I'm saying they're not there yet.
28:26
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, obviously the first year of a rebuild all that different stuff.
28:30
[SPEAKER_01]: And John Eric Sullivan just got there Leon Rose had been there for a while.
28:34
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's my, like, it isn't going to happen this year, but, you know, who knows?
28:40
[SPEAKER_00]: This is going to be a shitty thing to do to Jeff Haffley, but here's where I was going to go with it, and where I thought you were going to go with it.
28:48
[SPEAKER_00]: Haffley now is the equivalent of Tom Tibito, where he's the gruff, defense, hard work, you know, sticky mentality guy.
29:00
[SPEAKER_00]: He puts all the pieces together.
29:04
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, while they build the team, and then it gets axed when they hire some super star head coach and takes them to the finals.
29:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
29:15
[SPEAKER_00]: But halfway does have little tips to them, right?
29:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
29:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
29:19
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
29:20
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it like honestly, it was the one that was nice.
29:24
[SPEAKER_01]: I just had the eureka moment, like my, our producer can't, who does like my weekly videos show, asked me to do it.
29:33
[SPEAKER_01]: So I had it in a whole store.
29:34
[SPEAKER_01]: I was ready to go with it.
29:35
[SPEAKER_01]: But it was, I think it's the best one historically.
29:40
[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't mean like that's not for right now, but historically, I think it makes the most sense.
29:44
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, just because you have the iconic brand and like the just the parallels, I thought were really, really strong.
29:54
[SPEAKER_00]: I like, and maybe we're in a different stage of this one, but is there a world where you could see the bears fitting along a little bit more of a truncated version of this time?
30:08
[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
30:12
[SPEAKER_00]: And so we can flesh this one out where I think the bears are where the nicks were like last year, where it's like if they don't win it in the next two years, then we've missed the window, but like they've already found their mic brown, they've already found their brunch and they've already found kind of most of the they're probably that McHale bridges away.
30:35
[SPEAKER_00]: from taking that last step, and whether that's one of the draft picks from this year's class hitting, or whether that's doing something in the trade deadline, you know, maybe they get back in on Max Crosby in November.
30:47
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know the answer to that, right?
30:48
[SPEAKER_01]: I think another one like the Dolphins in next two, like where like the brand has sort of
30:53
[SPEAKER_01]: the brand supersedes how good the team actually has been, you know what I mean?
30:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Like the the team has not been as, has not played up to being a flagship franchise.
31:04
[SPEAKER_01]: And the bears are certainly seen, I think by everybody, it's like one of the NFL's flagship franchises, you know?
31:11
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the next are seen the same way in the NBA.
31:14
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not to like the level of the
31:20
[SPEAKER_01]: franchise, and they haven't really played to that reputation consistently over the last, you know, a couple decades.
31:29
[SPEAKER_01]: And the bears are sort of the same way where they've been bumbling around.
31:33
[SPEAKER_01]: And I guess like what you'd make the Jalen Brothers, Brunson comparison is Caleb.
31:37
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a little bit of a different type of player.
31:40
[SPEAKER_01]: It has his own unique style, you know?
31:43
[SPEAKER_01]: And the playmaking ability, all of that.
31:46
[SPEAKER_01]: So I thought the
31:49
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, right now, the crushing defeat, like getting close this year, you know, and going toe to toe with the Rams in Chicago, the stage of Soldier Field is, you know, I think similar to the stage of Madison Sport Guard, yeah, for now, yeah, until they moved to Gary, yeah, yeah, yeah, until they're like, until they're like the anchor of the shopping mall and like Northwest Indiana.
32:16
[SPEAKER_00]: next to like a chipotle in a blaze pizza.
32:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, a little bit different vibe than the cool take your shirt off hotdog venues down in Chicago.
32:25
[SPEAKER_00]: I think this one's good too, because the bears, the bears historically have had that post,
32:34
[SPEAKER_00]: identity clenching 80s bears right it they've been close there was the Loveysmith Super Bowl with Rex Grossman which might God feels like an eternity ago if you were to tell someone that the bears were in the Super Bowl during a time where we were sent in in a live and it wasn't the Lady you were I mean you were a teenager by the time the 86 bears won So they're Super Bowl on my sixth birthday just to be clear
33:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Properly as it should be in January late January.
33:07
[SPEAKER_01]: I was it would fall my birthday every I think was already five or six years and so yeah, that was my the suitable 20 was my six birthday Dealing on Tatri it's got absolutely Moved in that game.
33:22
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, do you remember it?
33:26
[SPEAKER_01]: I remember watching at the kitchen table
33:30
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember many of the particulars.
33:31
[SPEAKER_01]: I remember I got to had a hand quickly.
33:32
[SPEAKER_01]: The Patriots took an early lead.
33:34
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was three nothing.
33:36
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what the crazy thing is?
33:39
[SPEAKER_01]: RIP, Raymond Berry.
33:40
[SPEAKER_01]: The thing I remember most is the T-shirts.
33:43
[SPEAKER_01]: And everybody had T-shirts then for those couple of weeks that said, Berry, the bears on them.
33:49
[SPEAKER_01]: And it was a playoff of Raymond Berry's that coach.
33:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I liked that.
33:55
[SPEAKER_01]: Google, Google Berry, the bears, the T-shirt will come up.
34:01
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the bears, I think the bears one is quality, again, some of these timelines are truncated.
34:12
[SPEAKER_00]: I would guess if you asked the bears fan like the time in between.
34:18
[SPEAKER_00]: 85, 86 feels longer than the time of a nix fan, I don't know, for the last 50 years or whatever.
34:29
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that one's an interesting one, right?
34:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Where it's like, in their clothes, right?
34:35
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, it's almost here.
34:37
[SPEAKER_00]: It's materializing.
34:38
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that that's something that's, I think that's something that's really fun.
34:44
[SPEAKER_00]: The other one, and I mean, this is,
34:50
[SPEAKER_00]: This is more of an exploratory conversation, but I want to have it here.
34:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Like everything else lines up perfectly with the jets, right?
35:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Where the jets, one in Nameth, the merger era with, you know, this is going on.
35:08
[SPEAKER_00]: What's the, how far back are we now from Nameth and 69?
35:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, well, Nameth, they went in 70, right?
35:16
[SPEAKER_01]: Or was it, no, no, no, no, no.
35:19
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, 68.
35:19
[SPEAKER_00]: It was a 60.
35:22
[SPEAKER_01]: It was 69.
35:24
[SPEAKER_01]: So like that would be 58 years ago.
35:28
[SPEAKER_00]: 57, 58 years.
35:30
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
35:31
[SPEAKER_00]: So the gap is there.
35:33
[SPEAKER_00]: I would say that the jets
35:35
[SPEAKER_00]: futility has been far more pronounced, right, but I think that there's some analogs where like you could compare the Amari stottomira to like the Aaron Rogers era where it was like a lot of excitement or cremella Anthony to Aaron Rogers where it was like, oh my god we're going to fix it we got this future Hall of Famer here and everything's going to be okay and obviously that doesn't doesn't come to fruition and it doesn't work out.
36:01
[SPEAKER_00]: But to me,
36:03
[SPEAKER_00]: the Jets thing just seems and maybe the next fans feel the same way.
36:08
[SPEAKER_00]: It feels so far away.
36:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Like maybe the Jets are where the Nix are, like in 2015, the equivalent of like 2015 here, you know.
36:19
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, maybe it gives Jets fans some degree of hope.
36:28
[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe there are some Jets fans who are Nix fans that see the parallel.
36:31
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think
36:34
[SPEAKER_00]: So much has to change and if you look at the next right it was like higher the right coach
36:43
[SPEAKER_00]: sign the right people.
36:46
[SPEAKER_00]: The owner has to, and this is the part that we haven't really gotten to, Albert, and I think it's applicable, especially with Woody Johnson.
36:53
[SPEAKER_00]: The owner has to willingly get the F out of the way, right?
36:59
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Dolan really only came back in on, you know, when the
37:05
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when the balls on the teetering on the edge of the cup, and he knows it's going to fall in.
37:09
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
37:09
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
37:09
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's that's when he came back in, which is the fine time for an owner to come back in.
37:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
37:15
[SPEAKER_00]: But like, what do you would have to go to like Cobb over a day essentially for, you know, six and a half years and then come back and right because I'm just saying like this team and I'm just saying or say the UK.
37:36
[SPEAKER_00]: the I think is opportunities to do that might might be running out.
37:41
[SPEAKER_00]: But the
37:44
[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that I think that a lot of people don't talk about with the next run and make a Nick's fans do for sure.
37:51
[SPEAKER_00]: Like real Nick's fans do is the fact that like Leon Rose got to cook, James Dillon got out.
37:57
[SPEAKER_00]: This iteration of the Jets is a collection of Woody Johnson's worst impulses.
38:04
[SPEAKER_00]: He's made impulsive decision after impulsive decision after impulsive decision.
38:12
[SPEAKER_00]: During that time, we're, you know, when Chris, his brother was here and, and, and running things, right?
38:18
[SPEAKER_00]: And, and there was just kind of a black and white vibe in terms of what the day-to-day was like when one guy was here, what the day-to-day, it was like the other guy was here.
38:27
[SPEAKER_00]: That's the first thing that needs to happen if we're, we're kind of manifesting this Jets' Nick scenario, it's like, what he needs to go with.
38:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
38:36
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
38:36
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think,
38:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, as unlikely as Jim Dolan's been over the years, the, there was a self-awareness that decision to step away.
38:48
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it probably,
38:50
[SPEAKER_01]: I think like what a lot of the people who've covered that team would tell you is that maybe it goes back to striking out on Kevin Durant, like back in 2019 when he went to the nets.
39:05
[SPEAKER_01]: And it was kind of like maybe a holy crap moment for the next where it was like, you know, we just talked about them being at this destination.
39:11
[SPEAKER_01]: It was like,
39:13
[SPEAKER_01]: Whoa, we aren't the destination we thought we were.
39:17
[SPEAKER_01]: And Durant and Kyrie and all those guys are willingly choosing to go to Brooklyn.
39:24
[SPEAKER_01]: over us.
39:28
[SPEAKER_01]: And that was, I mean, especially because it happens right in their backyard, it was, I think something of a slap in the face to them.
39:35
[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, it sort of maybe takes that a little bit with Woody and maybe, I don't know, like, I mean, I will say this, I think he's been
39:52
[SPEAKER_01]: It's still a little bit like, you know, Jeff stuff does make you a little queasy, you know.
39:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Coaching stuff, staff stuff makes you queasy.
39:59
[SPEAKER_00]: He couldn't help but step in it about Justin Fields and owners meetings.
40:03
[SPEAKER_00]: And like, you know, shit taco, starting quarterback.
40:05
[SPEAKER_00]: It's still good to work on that.
40:06
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a little bit, I'd say.
40:07
[SPEAKER_01]: A little bit.
40:10
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, come on, just like, I just deconstructed my own argument like 15 seconds, imagine, imagine how thrilled you would be.
40:19
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know about you, but I will say this, like it is fair to say, it's a hard thing for these guys to do.
40:27
[SPEAKER_01]: because they didn't buy the team not to be involved.
40:30
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean like and there has to be I mean even the really good owners have f this up in the beginning.
40:36
[SPEAKER_01]: Like David Tapper is probably one of the smartest people on the planet right and he could knock it out of his own way as first few years as the Panthers are.
40:44
[SPEAKER_01]: Like
40:45
[SPEAKER_01]: period end of story.
40:47
[SPEAKER_01]: Robert Kraft, who I think probably one of the best owners and sports, was meddling like he wouldn't believe when Pete Carroll was the coach there and drove Bill Parsell as a way, right?
40:57
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think a lot of these these guys go through and it's just some of them never get past it.
41:04
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, some of them cannot help themselves.
41:06
[SPEAKER_01]: And so yeah, I mean that that could certainly be a factor for the jets.
41:11
[SPEAKER_00]: If sports illustrated were to say Connor, you know, we feel like we have a lot of good ideas and we need some time to implement them, but the only way it works is if you disappear to Tahiti for four years and then you can come back and take a victory lap at the end.
41:30
[SPEAKER_00]: That's an immediate yes for me.
41:33
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, like, you know, even if it's like, and I shouldn't, like, I don't want to understand this.
41:39
[SPEAKER_00]: I love writing about football for living.
41:41
[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
41:43
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I do it even when I don't have to, you know, kind of thing.
41:49
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's, but if they were like, you know, just we need you to take like four seasons off, you'll remain on the payroll.
41:56
[SPEAKER_00]: And then you're gonna come back here and you could be part of the sweeping parade.
42:00
[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be like, hell yeah.
42:03
[SPEAKER_01]: And everyone would give you credit for knowing that it was time to go away.
42:06
[SPEAKER_01]: That's amazing.
42:08
[SPEAKER_00]: What a life.
42:09
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm also just aspiring to be a beachbub.
42:12
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I think that's probably how it is.
42:14
[SPEAKER_01]: I would,
42:16
[SPEAKER_01]: One of my goals in life is to spend a winner as a ski bum and just go all over the West or Europe and do that.
42:23
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm I'm with you to a degree.
42:26
[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
42:27
[SPEAKER_01]: It'd be hard for me to walk away from work, but yeah.
42:29
[SPEAKER_00]: I know, like I think about that.
42:30
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, I have, and as we're winding down here, I have a column that's going up.
42:37
[SPEAKER_00]: It'll be up by the time that you listen to this show.
42:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Our editor, John Plume, asked me to write a parting shot to the off season.
42:45
[SPEAKER_00]: It kind of a big thought to chew on over the summer.
42:48
[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I'm sitting there and
42:51
[SPEAKER_00]: It was something that I didn't have to do.
42:53
[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, hey, if you want to do it and I was sitting there and it's nice out and there's a block party going on in the world cups on and everybody's down at the beach, but I was like, I really, really want to talk about, you know, it was something related to the Sean McVay offense, right, that that you can read right now.
43:10
[SPEAKER_00]: And I do feel like I would have a hard time walking away.
43:12
[SPEAKER_00]: So I sympathized with Woody, but at the same time, man, you asked me to go on like a four-year Mediterranean cruiser something, isn't that where Dan Snyder escaped from?
43:22
[SPEAKER_00]: He ran over to the, wasn't it the Mediterranean Sea or something like that when stuff was going down with Dan Snyder?
43:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Where did he go?
43:30
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he was just floating around in the Mediterranean, if I remember right, because there wasn't there was the yacht tracker.
43:35
[SPEAKER_00]: there's a dance center yacht tracker it's like can't get me if I'm an international otters loser worse places to be um... then an international yacht tracker i'll tell you that um... but yeah i mean i don't know i i think that ultimately every fan base will get
43:55
[SPEAKER_00]: the one team that you will always remember and that crystallizes that team.
44:01
[SPEAKER_00]: And it sucks for fan bases that don't have the ring.
44:05
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think a good place to close it because everyone now is going to look for the next in their own fandom, right?
44:15
[SPEAKER_00]: They're gonna be like, why can't I have that team?
44:17
[SPEAKER_00]: And I would venture to say that you probably have
44:20
[SPEAKER_00]: but the circumstances didn't quite line up for them to win a championship, right?
44:26
[SPEAKER_00]: So my biggest fandom is probably the Baltimore Orioles, and I'm not gonna get a world series in my lifetime.
44:35
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that, okay, how did that happen by the way?
44:38
[SPEAKER_00]: But there's no payroll, shit teams, I mean,
44:42
[SPEAKER_00]: How do you become an Orioles born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, which is further down south, and so our cable access was Baltimore.
44:52
[SPEAKER_00]: So almost every day we had Orioles games on TV just because we were closer in theory to Baltimore than Philadelphia or New Yorker in any of those places.
45:01
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so that makes sense.
45:03
[SPEAKER_01]: That's like a little bit like there are fans.
45:07
[SPEAKER_01]: all over the place of the braves because they could watch them.
45:09
[SPEAKER_00]: I can kind of do the same thing there.
45:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
45:11
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
45:12
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but that Oriol, the Oriol's team, where it was like the summer that I met my wife, it was a great summer.
45:21
[SPEAKER_00]: and it was like the team with like J.J. Hardy and Mani Machado and they just had all these weird grinders and they made their way to the playoffs and ultimately lost.
45:33
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
45:33
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, okay, that's my version of it.
45:35
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's okay.
45:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Like you don't have to win.
45:37
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like it doesn't have to be like the title you could just love a team and then eventually stumble into something good happening.
45:45
[SPEAKER_01]: I'd also say, like, there's something to, there's something to winning with a team that you don't, you didn't think was going to be your best team.
45:54
[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want to mean less.
45:55
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure there have been nixies, like when they had Carmelo and like over the years, there have been teams that like on paper looked like a lot better.
46:05
[SPEAKER_01]: And that makes the team, I think, even more lovable, like I, again, like with Ohio State, like the first championship that they won.
46:13
[SPEAKER_01]: And it was like a huge drop for them.
46:15
[SPEAKER_01]: They hadn't won since 68.
46:17
[SPEAKER_01]: For me, it was like I went to school there for four years and graduated then they won.
46:22
[SPEAKER_01]: So it wasn't like I wasn't I wasn't waiting the way a lot of other people were waiting but that team like no one expected that team to win a championship that was like they're going to be really good the year after that right right and then the 14 team was the same thing now that wound up being more of a super team because there's a zillion first round picks and that team they were just all soft wars you know but those teams that come out of nowhere
46:45
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I, I think you remember those fondly, especially when you know it wasn't your best team.
46:50
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
46:51
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
46:52
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and I think Nick's fans are probably feeling a little bit of that now, where it was like, we've had better teams over the years than this one.
47:00
[SPEAKER_01]: Some of the Ewing teams, right?
47:02
[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
47:03
[SPEAKER_01]: Carmelo comes there.
47:04
[SPEAKER_01]: There were high hopes, like, and, but this one becomes really lovable because it's almost like a little bit more,
47:12
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like almost like a little bit more relatable when the team isn't a super team.
47:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that makes it.
47:18
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think like, and doesn't like, they don't have a jail in bronze in some believeable.
47:22
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I like unbelievable, but like he's not a conventional super star either.
47:27
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, starting to sound like Becky Hammond, you're going to get yourself in trouble here.
47:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, like, he's not a first pick in the draft, you know what I mean?
47:34
[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, I know what you're saying.
47:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
47:35
[SPEAKER_00]: No, for sure.
47:37
[SPEAKER_00]: There's part of me, too, and that almost would prefer, like Notre Dame hasn't won it since I've been born.
47:45
[SPEAKER_00]: I am, oh, God, you weren't alive for that?
47:49
[SPEAKER_00]: Deeply uncomfortable.
47:51
[SPEAKER_00]: Deeply.
47:53
[SPEAKER_00]: Uncomfortable.
47:53
[SPEAKER_01]: You weren't alive for that?
47:54
[SPEAKER_01]: No.
47:56
[SPEAKER_00]: uh... whatever it was 88 it was 88 but i was born in june so that was what and you're a life or done
48:05
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's right.
48:05
[SPEAKER_01]: You born in junior 80, you were alive for it.
48:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's right.
48:08
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, because it was the 88 season.
48:09
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay.
48:10
[SPEAKER_00]: So I was six months old, whatever it was.
48:14
[SPEAKER_00]: You were so on on yourself.
48:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
48:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Probably like I would be if they wanted to get in the office.
48:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you know, but it's funny because, you know, the other day I was waiting for something.
48:31
[SPEAKER_00]: I was waiting for an interview.
48:32
[SPEAKER_00]: I was like out on location somewhere.
48:34
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I was flipping through like ESPN had the college football power rankings out and, you know, they started 60 and then you have to scroll all the way down to one and so I'm getting to 10 and 9 and I was like, please don't fucking do this.
48:49
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, don't do this.
48:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't do this.
48:51
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, of course, we're number one and it just makes me feel so deeply uncomfortable.
48:57
[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't like it.
48:58
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like running from the front of the pack.
49:01
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, I don't know.
49:04
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what's what's ahead for me.
49:06
[SPEAKER_01]: I think you'll get a kick out of this.
49:08
[SPEAKER_01]: I think you guys probably got this weather yesterday or something But I'm looking up at a TV screen and it says wind damage tornado high humidity So we're in for a great day here.
49:18
[SPEAKER_01]: It looks like going meet my editor going meet meet meet editor Mitch Should be a should be a safe drive up there excellent
49:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
49:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Give Mitch a hug and enjoy everything.
49:30
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just like, I'm leveling right now.
49:33
[SPEAKER_00]: So, I guess the New York City made custom orange and blue trash cans for the parade.
49:38
[SPEAKER_00]: And there are people just lifting them off the ground and trying to...
49:42
[SPEAKER_00]: which like obviously I would it's an X trash kid.
49:45
[SPEAKER_00]: I want an X trash kid Yeah, but you know the wrong people or those aren't people that are going to put them in their house So that those things are going to line up on the internet to my correct.
49:53
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, yes, it's not the right It'd be fun if it was like a fan trying to take it home love it You know, it's not the fan that's trying to take it home now
50:02
[SPEAKER_01]: No, this is not.
50:03
[SPEAKER_01]: Some Jericho is going to have it on eBay, like in 12 hours.
50:06
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's also an ADM, I saw a photo of Victor women Yana in a full ballerina outfit that was CGIed onto a gigantic sign.
50:16
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a wedding taking place right now in the middle of the streets.
50:19
[SPEAKER_00]: So the vibes are immaculate here.
50:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, someone got married in the middle of the next parade, which like, yeah.
50:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but you should do, but yeah, I think that's why we do it.
50:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Ultimately, that's the point of this podcast, right?
50:33
[SPEAKER_00]: It's to get you guys prepared for when your team has their run.
50:37
[SPEAKER_00]: And hopefully you turn into the cool fan who steals the trash can for the right reasons.
50:42
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see you guys on Monday, enjoy the weekend, and we'll be back with two pots next week.
