- 2:53to tell them. Sunny Morning sent you. In local
- 2:58news, after a bit of community uproar, an iconic
- 3:02piece of Newton is back. Adams Street's red,
- 3:06white, and green Italian Center strike has been
- 3:09restored nearly one year after it was painted
- 3:12over by former Mayor Ruth Ann Fuller, who cited
- 3:15safety concerns. New Newton Mayor Mark Laredo,
- 3:19who took office on January 1st, encouraged his
- 3:22team to find a way to restore the lines while
- 3:25considering safety. Neighbors, business owners,
- 3:28and pedestrians are reveling in the stripe's
- 3:31return, feeling that a piece of their community
- 3:33identity has been reclaimed. This move has garnered
- 3:37praise, with some locals blaming former Mayor
- 3:40Fuller for past decisions. Now on to sports.
- 3:50The Toronto Maple Leafs have won the number one
- 3:53pick at the 2026 National Hockey League draft,
- 3:57leaping four spots during the lottery on Tuesday
- 4:00night. The Leafs entered the lottery, which was
- 4:03televised live and held at National Hockey League
- 4:06Network Studios in Secaucus, New Jersey, with
- 4:09just an 8 .5 % chance of winning the top selection.
- 4:13The Leafs have only made two number one picks.
- 4:17Wendell Clark in 1985, and Austin Matthews in
- 4:202016. The San Jose Sharks, the Vancouver Canucks,
- 4:26the Chicago Blackhawks, and the New York Rangers
- 4:28rounded out the top five. In local sports, the
- 4:33Red Sox are rolling. After dominating Detroit
- 4:36the last two nights, 10 -3 yesterday and 5 -4
- 4:41the night before, they're back at Comerica Park
- 4:43tonight gunning for the sweep. Sonny Gray takes
- 4:47the ball against Jack Flaherty with first pitch
- 4:51at 640. Sadon Rafaela was the star last night,
- 4:55going three for five with four RBS and a home
- 5:00run. William Abreu added three hits and a shot
- 5:04of his own. Gray's been solid all season and
- 5:08Boston's offense is clicking. So if that continues,
- 5:11the Sox could put this one away early. and leave
- 5:14town with some real momentum heading forward.
- 5:18Meanwhile, the Celtics are dealing with fallout
- 5:20from their first -round exit. Jalen Brown caught
- 5:24a 50 -grand fine from the NBA after calling out
- 5:27officiating in a livestream Sunday, saying referees
- 5:31clearly had an agenda against him. He'd been
- 5:35whistled for 10 offensive fouls in the series,
- 5:37more than double any other player. Brown was
- 5:41previously fined 35 grand. in January for similar
- 5:45comments. He also took shots at the Sixers, Joel
- 5:49Embiid for flopping, noting Embiid shot way more
- 5:52free throws in this series than he did all season.
- 5:55It's a tough pill to swallow for a team that
- 5:58was supposed to contend. In top news, FDA halts
- 6:05publication of studies on vaccines for COVID
- 6:08-19 and shingles, according to a spokesman for
- 6:11the Health and Human Services Department. This
- 6:14news follows the Centers for Disease Control
- 6:16and Prevention's decision to not publish a report
- 6:19indicating last winter's COVID vaccine reduced
- 6:22the risk of hospitalizations. One safety study
- 6:26examined the association between the 2023 and
- 6:292024 COVID vaccine and various health conditions.
- 6:34The study, authored by FDA scientists, was withdrawn
- 6:38during the peer review process. An abstract from
- 6:41the study stated that no new safety concerns
- 6:44were found following vaccination among U .S.
- 6:47health plan enrollees age 6 months to 64 years.
- 6:52In business news, Costco keeps getting busier,
- 6:56with store visits up by more than 18 % over the
- 7:00last 7 years. Traffic trends at Walmart and Target
- 7:04are mostly flat, according to Placer .a -i. The
- 7:09growth brings additional pressure on warehouses,
- 7:11and Costco is having to get creative with solutions.
- 7:15Shopping visits to Costco warehouses increased
- 7:18by more than 18 % from the first quarter of 2019
- 7:23to 2026. This growth results from visits to new
- 7:29warehouses and increased traffic at existing
- 7:32ones. In contrast, store traffic trends at Walmart
- 7:35and Target have remained mostly flat during the
- 7:38same period. In crypto movement, Bitcoin is unchanged
- 7:43at $81 ,000. Ethereum is unchanged at about $2
- 7:49,000. And XRP is unchanged at $1 .41. Moving
- 7:57on to a more local vibe. In our community spotlight
- 8:01on health and wellness, we are working with a

- 8:41now, back to the show. Let's talk tech. Google,
- 8:47Microsoft, and XAI will allow the United States
- 8:51government to review their new artificial intelligence
- 8:54models. The Center for Artificial Intelligence
- 8:57Standards and Innovation will evaluate new models
- 9:00before they are released publicly. In an announcement
- 9:04on Tuesday, the Commerce Department's Center
- 9:06for Artificial Intelligence Standards and Innovation
- 9:09states that it will work with the companies to
- 9:12conduct pre -deployment evaluations and research
- 9:15to assess their capabilities. The Center has
- 9:18performed 40 reviews so far. Reports suggest
- 9:22that the White House may consider an executive
- 9:25order to oversee new artificial intelligence
- 9:28models. And in entertainment news, Scary Island
- 9:35is a new adaptation of the classic novel, conveying
- 9:39the horror and tragedy of children trying to
- 9:42survive. David McKenna stars as the pragmatic
- 9:45piggy. The Lord of the Flies is the kind of show
- 9:49you praise by emphasizing how hard it is to watch.
- 9:53Adapted from William Golding's classic 1954 novel
- 9:57by Jack Thorne, directed by Mark Mundin, and
- 10:00originally aired by the British Broadcasting
- 10:03Corporation before coming to Netflix in the United
- 10:06States, the four -episode series retains its
- 10:09World War II backdrop. Watching these boys succumb
- 10:13to their worst instincts is harrowing enough
- 10:15to make you long to look away. Well, alrighty
- 10:19folks, it's time for the quote of the day. And
- 10:23today, our quote comes from the American civil
- 10:26rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr. And he
- 10:30said, Faith is taking the first step even when
- 10:33you don't see the whole staircase. And that's
- 10:37a wrap for this morning. You can check out our
- 10:40Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok for some captivating
- 10:44aerial videos with local news and the weather
- 10:47reports. Have an amazing day, my good friends.
