- 2:41Speaker 2: friend Angie Gillenwater from the Kannaw Charleston New Main Association
- 2:44Speaker 2: with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week,
- 2:46Speaker 2: sponsored by Almost Heaven Interiors in South Charleston. Angie, good morning,
- 2:50Speaker 2: and welcome to the show, and happy Friday.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Good morning.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I'm happy to be here and I have with me today.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I think you've been on with him before, Tony the Taylor. Okay,
- 3:00Speaker 2: so so behave yourself. We're in the presence of a
- 3:03Speaker 2: legend here. Tony, good morning, Good morning. Are you doing
- 3:07Speaker 2: you know, Angie, the whole town is spending about uh
- 3:09Speaker 2: is buzzing about the Spin Doctors tonight at Live on
- 3:12Speaker 2: the Levee. You're probably not old enough to remember the
- 3:14Speaker 2: spin Doctors, are you.
- 3:16Speaker 4: I don't believe I am.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I could probably do a couple of songs for you,
- 3:20Speaker 2: and you probably would know when I said, little miss
- 3:23Speaker 2: can't be wrong and it's two princes. You want to
- 3:26Speaker 2: sing a little bit? Tony, No, okay, I just thought
- 3:28Speaker 2: i'd have anyway. Anyway, it's gonna be Tony says, I've
- 3:31Speaker 2: never seen them live. Tony says they're fantastic, but they're
- 3:34Speaker 2: gonna be playing tonight. Uh So, anyway, let's move on
- 3:36Speaker 2: to this week's Adopt Me Please put of the Week.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It has brought to you as always by Almost Heaven
- 3:39Speaker 2: Interiors of South Charleston. And I hope I pronounced this right,
- 3:43Speaker 2: because I think it's you're pronouncing it kookie.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Is that right?
- 3:48Speaker 4: It's actually just pronounced cookie. Yeah, there's a lot of lore.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Okay, tell us what you always amaze me every week
- 3:57Speaker 2: with the Sometimes I have to bring in producer kind
- 4:00Speaker 2: to explain to me what these names mean. What does
- 4:02Speaker 2: cookie with a why mean?
- 4:05Speaker 4: So a lot of our staff at the Animal Shelter
- 4:08Speaker 4: are big fans of the music genre k pop, which is,
- 4:12Speaker 4: you know, just Korean pop music. There is a band
- 4:15Speaker 4: called BTS very popular right now. But they have all
- 4:20Speaker 4: have little characters that are basically named after them and
- 4:26Speaker 4: like supposed to be them, but like in a little
- 4:29Speaker 4: curtain character format. And the member Junk Cook, his character
- 4:33Speaker 4: is named Cookie.
- 4:35Speaker 2: All right, I've learned something, Tony. Did you know any
- 4:37Speaker 2: of this?
- 4:38Speaker 5: I know about bts granddaughter and well she's six, she's
- 4:42Speaker 5: not there yet, okay, all right, all right, So she
- 4:46Speaker 5: likes to jingle to zip recruiter.
- 4:48Speaker 2: She sings, there you go. All right? Cookie is the
- 4:55Speaker 2: dogtailler or the cat? I should say? Tell us all
- 4:57Speaker 2: about Cookie?
- 4:58Speaker 4: So Cookie came in with litter mates. They were all males,
- 5:02Speaker 4: which is kind of unusual to see all solid black,
- 5:06Speaker 4: and they are about two months old. They were just
- 5:08Speaker 4: stray kittens that were found and brought to us. He's
- 5:11Speaker 4: available for an option, and at two months old, you
- 5:14Speaker 4: know he's going to be pretty easy to integrate into
- 5:16Speaker 4: any type of life. Whether he's going to be the
- 5:18Speaker 4: only pet or if you have you know how full
- 5:21Speaker 4: of pets, He's going to do fine. Either way. He's
- 5:24Speaker 4: not needed yet, but he will be before you adult well.
- 5:27Speaker 2: And I think that's one of the things about cookies
- 5:29Speaker 2: age because again he's only two months old. And some
- 5:32Speaker 2: people will say about about cats or about dogs for
- 5:35Speaker 2: that matter, well, you know they don't like other cats
- 5:37Speaker 2: or they don't like other at that age, they don't
- 5:39Speaker 2: know what they like all. The only thing they want
- 5:41Speaker 2: at that age is to be taken care of in food.
- 5:43Speaker 2: You can train them however you want them pretty much right,
- 5:46Speaker 2: and believe it or not, you can't actually train cats.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I mean you really can.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Yes, you absolutely can. One of my cats actually knows
- 5:53Speaker 4: how to shake for treat, So you can absolutely train
- 5:56Speaker 4: cats the same way you can dogs. It's just a
- 5:58Speaker 4: little bit more difficult, more stubborn than dogs are, and
- 6:01Speaker 4: less eager to please.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Well, my cat actually one of them will actually sit
- 6:05Speaker 2: on command. I can just say set and he'll sit.
- 6:09Speaker 2: So that's an accomplishment. Trying to convince mister Parrenzino here, Angie,
- 6:13Speaker 2: that he needs he needs a cat. And I showed
- 6:15Speaker 2: him the pews in my office earlier, and I showed
- 6:17Speaker 2: him the picture of Cookie. I think with a little
- 6:19Speaker 2: bit of convincing, we might it's two months old, Tony,
- 6:22Speaker 2: I don't understand. I've got it. I've had cats.
- 6:24Speaker 5: I love cats, but right now I'm catless. I'm petless,
- 6:28Speaker 5: and I'm kind of enjoying the freedom of it. Actually, however,
- 6:32Speaker 5: I'm not opposed to but if I see a mouse.
- 6:35Speaker 5: The day I see a mouse, I'm been straight up
- 6:37Speaker 5: to the shelter to get a cat.
- 6:40Speaker 2: All right, we'll talk about Cookie a little bit more.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Coming up you guys out of about anywhere this weekend, Angie.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Uh yeah, So we're actually coming your way to tomorrow
- 6:48Speaker 4: from twelve to four. We'll be at Tay's Valley Pet
- 6:51Speaker 4: Co in our caravan with adoptable animals. So and see,
- 6:55Speaker 4: there will be a c in the caravan. So if
- 6:58Speaker 4: nothing else, come and enjoy their condition.
- 7:00Speaker 2: What it's gonna be a little bit cooler tomorrow. Actually,
- 7:02Speaker 2: they say, we're gonna have some storms rolled through the
- 7:04Speaker 2: area today, but tomorrow's looking absolutely beautiful. I mean it's
- 7:06Speaker 2: still summer, so it's going to be hot. So invite
- 7:09Speaker 2: people to stop by. I know last time, and well
- 7:12Speaker 2: I'll try to make it appear at so over there,
- 7:13Speaker 2: my wife and I will stop by tomorrow. But I
- 7:15Speaker 2: know last time we've brought you some things you needed
- 7:17Speaker 2: some I think we've dropped off some towels or something like.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Is there anything in particular that people could drop off
- 7:23Speaker 2: to you tomorrow and Day's valley that you would need?
- 7:25Speaker 4: So any type of as I say every week, any
- 7:28Speaker 4: type of Purina dry food products are always great, any
- 7:31Speaker 4: brand of wet food for cats or dogs, and as
- 7:34Speaker 4: always you know, blankets, towels, sheets, washcloth, just any type
- 7:38Speaker 4: of linen gently used as perfect. Any of that we
- 7:42Speaker 4: can accept tomorrow. Really any donations, by the way, I'm
- 7:45Speaker 4: just throwing some ideas out there. We can accept that
- 7:48Speaker 4: tomorrow and take them back to the shelter pets when
- 7:50Speaker 4: we head out of.
- 7:51Speaker 2: There at four o'clock and we had a text here
- 7:54Speaker 2: Angel for anyone who wants to donate to the shelter.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Sam's Club has forty eight pound bags of Purina dog
- 7:59Speaker 2: chow on sale for twenty three dollars as well as
- 8:02Speaker 2: fifty two pound bags of Tidy Cat non clumping cat
- 8:05Speaker 2: litter ten bucks until July fourth.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Yeah, we actually shared that on our Facebook page. So
- 8:10Speaker 4: if you need, you know, a refresher on that or
- 8:12Speaker 4: want to see it in person or in writing, that's
- 8:15Speaker 4: on Kseyha's Facebook page with all the ways that you can,
- 8:19Speaker 4: you know, have it either delivered to us or dropping
- 8:22Speaker 4: it off in person yourself and you.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Angel, there's so much going on the valley of the
- 8:25Speaker 2: next couple of weeks, which we've got Bergatta and we'll
- 8:28Speaker 2: have the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships. Checking out
- 8:32Speaker 2: your Facebook page, You folks of the shelter, were the
- 8:34Speaker 2: beneficiary of some art and you're doing like an auction
- 8:37Speaker 2: for this right we are.
- 8:40Speaker 4: So the painting is gorgeous if you've not yet seen it,
- 8:43Speaker 4: it's somebody on a bicycle in front of the Capital
- 8:47Speaker 4: with two dogs, created by Alison Bibbie. Again, it's traveling
- 8:52Speaker 4: all over Charleston right now, and we've been sharing where
- 8:55Speaker 4: you can find it and the code to you know,
- 8:59Speaker 4: for the auction link for this painting. But yes, we
- 9:02Speaker 4: are the beneficiary of that and we are so excited
- 9:05Speaker 4: that we get to involve our community in something like
- 9:10Speaker 4: that that.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Also helps the shelter pet And you can go to
- 9:12Speaker 2: the Facebook page of the animal shelter, the canav Valuemane
- 9:15Speaker 2: Association check it out there. You folks had a road
- 9:18Speaker 2: trip this week, some of you did. Twenty one puppies
- 9:20Speaker 2: from Charleston are on their way to new homes out
- 9:23Speaker 2: of state.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Yes, so Rescue Best Friends Animal Society had reached out
- 9:29Speaker 4: to us. A rescue in Ohio was hosting this super
- 9:32Speaker 4: mega adoption event and they had the opposite problem of
- 9:36Speaker 4: what we have is they didn't have enough puppies.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Wow, imagine that exactly.
- 9:41Speaker 4: We were blown away by that. But they didn't have
- 9:44Speaker 4: enough puppies to host this adoption event, and we told
- 9:48Speaker 4: them we could take care of their problem. So again,
- 9:52Speaker 4: twenty one of our puppies, which is almost you know,
- 9:54Speaker 4: our entire puppy population, we're able to get out of
- 9:58Speaker 4: West Virginia and head to a i OWE for New Holmes.
- 10:01Speaker 2: All right, good stuff there, and again you can read
- 10:02Speaker 2: all about it on the Facebook page. You can just
- 10:04Speaker 2: do a fantastic job in your Facebook page. All right, Angie,
- 10:08Speaker 2: we will talk again soon, and hopefully I'll get run
- 10:10Speaker 2: over and see you tomorrow in Tays Valley since you're
- 10:11Speaker 2: gonna be in my neighborhoods at least that I can do, right,
- 10:13Speaker 2: just run over and say hello. What are the hours
- 10:15Speaker 2: again at the pet co tomorrow?
- 10:17Speaker 4: Uh so twelve noon to four pm, noon to.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Four All right? Well, you know I'll have to keep
- 10:21Speaker 2: a close eye to baseball schedule because my alma mater
- 10:24Speaker 2: is going to be playing for state baseball championship tomorrow,
- 10:26Speaker 2: so I'll try to work you in around my logan
- 10:29Speaker 2: Wildcats tomorrow.
- 10:29Speaker 4: How's that that sounds good? I will understand it's not all.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Right, Ange Gill and Water appreciate you being here. Thanks
- 10:35Speaker 2: a lot, No problem. Everyone, have a good weekend all
- 10:38Speaker 2: right again? All r not me please? Pet of the

- 10:43Speaker 1: Why?
- 10:44Speaker 6: Uh?
- 10:44Speaker 2: Two months old? Came in as astray with five brothers,
- 10:48Speaker 2: very small and tony. You know you've had kittens in
- 10:51Speaker 2: the past. You could pretty much mold him into whatever
- 10:55Speaker 2: you want, into whatever you could have happened with it. Yeah,

- 15:48Speaker 12: of the show and bomb stage and he was up
- 15:50Speaker 12: on that piano. He was jumping around. It was like,
- 15:54Speaker 12: this is really kind of fun. I got a nice
- 15:55Speaker 12: video of him. He's he's very entertaining, and tonight six thirty,
- 16:00Speaker 12: as always, we started at six thirty. This is season
- 16:03Speaker 12: twenty two, week number four. The weeks start to clip by.
- 16:06Speaker 12: We still have some left folks, but don't hesitate to
- 16:09Speaker 12: get down there tonight. You heard Dave talking about the
- 16:12Speaker 12: weather earlier. I think Brian's assured us that we might
- 16:14Speaker 12: have a little shower, a refreshing shower, and then we're
- 16:18Speaker 12: going to have some nice weather tonight six thirty. Jag
- 16:21Speaker 12: Robinson'll take center stage here. He'll play for an hour.
- 16:25Speaker 12: He's an up, he's an up and comer. I couldn't
- 16:27Speaker 12: find a lot on him. I haven't heard him yet.
- 16:30Speaker 12: I listened to a couple of YouTube videos last night,
- 16:33Speaker 12: but he's immerging, he's coming up. He's known for his
- 16:36Speaker 12: social media, his TikTok videos, so he's got a young following.
- 16:39Speaker 12: So I expect to see some young young folks down
- 16:42Speaker 12: at the had Editor Front Park tonight. And he has
- 16:45Speaker 12: just some really introspective kind of lyrics that he's got
- 16:49Speaker 12: some catchy melodies and he just he stands up there
- 16:52Speaker 12: and plays that get box and sings and he's pretty
- 16:55Speaker 12: pretty dagone good so he'll warm the crowd up. And
- 16:58Speaker 12: then as Rong excited when we announcedis earlier this year
- 17:03Speaker 12: for Live on the Levee, the Spin Doctors are coming.
- 17:06Speaker 12: I mean they've have been around for a while now.
- 17:08Speaker 12: They were formed in I believe that the late eighties.
- 17:11Speaker 12: They've got some nice tunes out, some songs that we
- 17:14Speaker 12: all are gonna know and love. Two Princes comes to mind.
- 17:19Speaker 12: Mine is a little miss can't be wrong. And Tony's
- 17:22Speaker 12: seen them before, but I watched a couple videos. I
- 17:25Speaker 12: haven't seen them live. Just the energy they bring and
- 17:29Speaker 12: much like Low Cut Connie, I mean, they're just going
- 17:31Speaker 12: to be all over that stage tonight. They're going to
- 17:33Speaker 12: be getting the audience involved. They blend the nice funk
- 17:37Speaker 12: and blues. They're a rock and roll band, but they're
- 17:39Speaker 12: not a rock and roll band, right, Tony, how do
- 17:41Speaker 12: you do well.
- 17:41Speaker 2: That they're a rock and roll band?
- 17:43Speaker 5: They play everything.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they're catchy.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:46Speaker 5: I saw them before they were famous in New York
- 17:48Speaker 5: City and a club and you walk away from not going, wow,
- 17:51Speaker 5: this band was great.
- 17:53Speaker 2: So you knew them before you we knew it well.
- 17:54Speaker 2: And then right literally like a year later, they were
- 17:57Speaker 2: pushing their new CD.
- 17:59Speaker 1: I love that.
- 18:00Speaker 5: Then they were big and saw them leave here the
- 18:03Speaker 5: Civic Center at one point at their peak, and then
- 18:06Speaker 5: I saw them after and they have not changed. These
- 18:09Speaker 5: guys are musicians and they are faced the same.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there's a couple of have a couple
- 18:16Speaker 2: of changes. But Chris Baron is the lead singer, and
- 18:20Speaker 2: Ryan hit us with the little spin doctors there, so
- 18:22Speaker 2: just sister refreshed people's memory if you can spin doctors.
- 18:41Speaker 2: And of course the two princes are other big song
- 18:43Speaker 2: and also Jimmy Olsen's Blues.
- 18:44Speaker 5: That's I think one of your fas. Jimmy Olsen's Blues
- 18:46Speaker 5: is great. I mean, this is a fantastic band. They
- 18:50Speaker 5: go down and see and you know what it is free.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 18:53Speaker 2: The cause is pretty good, folks. If you're using that
- 18:56Speaker 2: as an excuse, stop it just stop right now. No
- 18:59Speaker 2: loyalty point need it.
- 19:00Speaker 4: No, no none, just cotting it down.
- 19:02Speaker 8: Lord.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:03Speaker 12: They take center stage there on the show and bomb
- 19:05Speaker 12: stage it had at a riverfront park. They all start
- 19:08Speaker 12: at eight o'clock and we do a ninety minute set.
- 19:11Speaker 2: So that's the thing. Now we do a ninety minute set.
- 19:13Speaker 12: That'll take us to about nine thirty, and then we'll
- 19:16Speaker 12: do that fifty to fifty drawing as soon as they're
- 19:18Speaker 12: done their last song. We're still raising money for those
- 19:21Speaker 12: five inner City charities RCCR along with KBC, the Sojourner,
- 19:27Speaker 12: shelter Man and Meal, and I do believe tonight is
- 19:29Speaker 12: the covenant house we've raised the last twenty one plus seasons.
- 19:33Speaker 12: Now I keep unofficial tabs on us. We've raised one
- 19:35Speaker 12: hundred and thirty one thousand dollars for these charities because you, guys,
- 19:39Speaker 12: of your generosity and support and kindness. So buy a
- 19:42Speaker 12: fifty to fifty ticket. We'll do the drawing about nine thirty.
- 19:47Speaker 12: It's been a fantastic live on Levee so far. I
- 19:51Speaker 12: would say this year Moses is very happy. Come on
- 19:53Speaker 12: down and check out some of the nice Moses vehicles
- 19:56Speaker 12: they have there every week. Brewer and Company's been with
- 19:59Speaker 12: us since day one. Thank you for stepping up. Art
- 20:02Speaker 12: and Virginia King stepped up this year there with Tara
- 20:04Speaker 12: Don and Canawas Stone, our friend Mike Window with lou
- 20:07Speaker 12: Window Marine. The Health Plan is back. Loved Ones is
- 20:11Speaker 12: a new sponsor this year. Poka Valley, who just had
- 20:13Speaker 12: their big opening yesterday and they're going to be they're
- 20:16Speaker 12: gonna be there tonight as well.
- 20:18Speaker 2: It's a Poka Valley night by the way, they had
- 20:21Speaker 2: they as you said, they had their grand opening yesterday.
- 20:23Speaker 2: We have story posts about it on the website.
- 20:25Speaker 11: Uh.
- 20:25Speaker 2: It's a great addition to downtown Charles. Beautiful building.
- 20:28Speaker 12: Beautiful building if I love what's going on right there
- 20:31Speaker 12: and with Trans Canada right next door. But it's going
- 20:33Speaker 12: to be PoCA Valley at night tonight, so they're going
- 20:35Speaker 12: to continue their celebration. Optimum Cable Services, my company's proud
- 20:39Speaker 12: to support this and of course w b r C
- 20:41Speaker 12: Media and folks right here with the Talk Radio five eighty.
- 20:45Speaker 2: I love you guys, Thank you. There's something else that
- 20:47Speaker 2: I did in a little and I remember spind Doctors
- 20:51Speaker 2: when they first came out. That was like towards the
- 20:53Speaker 2: end of my college. Did you ever did you play
- 20:55Speaker 2: them on the air down to I know I actually
- 20:58Speaker 2: played them later, not when they were knew because at
- 21:00Speaker 2: the time when they came out, I was working at
- 21:02Speaker 2: a classic rock station and then later a country station,
- 21:05Speaker 2: So now I guess they'd be but they were kurt.
- 21:09Speaker 2: But now later on it's what we called in the
- 21:11Speaker 2: radio business, recurrence, and then I would play them and
- 21:15Speaker 2: continue to play them. Tony, you're a musician, you probably
- 21:19Speaker 2: you probably know talking about right. No, you are all right,
- 21:24Speaker 2: all right. So the band was originally called Trucking Company,
- 21:28Speaker 2: and the original band featured John Popper before he left
- 21:32Speaker 2: them to form Travelers. You know, no kidding. I did
- 21:36Speaker 2: not know that. I did not I did not know that,
- 21:38Speaker 2: and I got a head full of nothing that one
- 21:39Speaker 2: guy I did not know, John Popper played with what
- 21:42Speaker 2: became spin Doctors.
- 21:43Speaker 5: Yeah, but the musicianship of these guys, I mean, just
- 21:46Speaker 5: the show and the music. And you might even right,
- 21:49Speaker 5: you might be the first time you hear some of
- 21:50Speaker 5: this music, but you go, wow, these guys can play.
- 21:53Speaker 12: All right, we look forward to it again. You stop down,
- 21:56Speaker 12: get you back deep. We'll have plenty of food trucks
- 21:58Speaker 12: down there, and get your bearded bevery what's Bryan doing
- 22:00Speaker 12: about that weather? Yeah, I think I'm looking to Brian.
- 22:03Speaker 12: I think it's going to be calm, Brian.
- 22:05Speaker 2: He promises me a little shower, refreshing and low humidity tonight.
- 22:09Speaker 2: My mom might even walk over. It's not hot. It's
- 22:11Speaker 2: going to be hot. Enough if we get you know,
- 22:13Speaker 2: and there are some severe weather predicted, but now they're
- 22:16Speaker 2: saying latest. I saw it could be a little bit earlier. Yeah,
- 22:19Speaker 2: so I mean, we don't want severe weather, but if
- 22:21Speaker 2: we could get it, no in the afternoon and getting
- 22:23Speaker 2: cleared out by the shower.
- 22:24Speaker 12: But I think it'll be a pop up. It might
- 22:27Speaker 12: be you know, a little a little downpour, but as
- 22:32Speaker 12: long as as long as we're done. But you know,
- 22:33Speaker 12: three four o'clock and it looks beautiful at eight o'clock.
- 22:37Speaker 12: By the way, that's when the spin Doctor's sakes center stage.
- 22:39Speaker 12: So keep an eye on the weather and we'll see
- 22:41Speaker 12: you down at had Ed Riverfront Park tonight, Season twenty two,
- 22:44Speaker 12: week number four.
- 22:44Speaker 2: We appreciate you, Dave Tony. Good to see you. Did
- 22:46Speaker 2: you see you? Jim appreciate you being here. And now
- 22:49Speaker 2: we have Live on the Levee next week.
- 22:50Speaker 13: We do.
- 22:50Speaker 2: We do have Live on Levee next week and I
- 22:53Speaker 2: shall be here. You shall be here, shall Amy? Rainy
- 22:55Speaker 2: did a good job in your stead. I understand that
- 22:58Speaker 2: you did.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I love that.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Thank you, Amy. All right, Jim will cut you out
- 23:01Speaker 2: of here for Dave Allen Show on five the Line
- 23:03Speaker 2: brought to you bart by Morgan and Morgan, America's largest
- 23:05Speaker 2: injury law firm. Tony the Taylor Parentzino hanging out with
- 23:08Speaker 2: us today. Thank you for giving us a little bit
- 23:10Speaker 2: of background there on the Spin Doctors. I didn't realize
- 23:12Speaker 2: that you had seen him so many times.
- 23:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm just fantastic. That's why I always loved going
- 23:18Speaker 5: to New York, especially back in the eighties and nineties.
- 23:20Speaker 5: You just see these amazing in clubs, CBGB's, you know,
- 23:26Speaker 5: the Palladium.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, who's the best act you ever saw live? Oh?
- 23:31Speaker 7: My god?
- 23:32Speaker 2: I mean, And here's what's what I'm asking you this.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I want to know, not necessarily who your favorite acts are,
- 23:38Speaker 2: but I mean, just be honest, who's the best well
- 23:40Speaker 2: that you ever saw live? Didn't be one of your
- 23:42Speaker 2: favorites or not.
- 23:43Speaker 5: I think one of the most surprising ones I ever
- 23:45Speaker 5: saw that blew me Away was Huey Lewis in the
- 23:49Speaker 5: news and Robert Craye opened up for him here and
- 23:52Speaker 5: I went to Robert Craig.
- 23:54Speaker 2: I remember that show.
- 23:54Speaker 5: It wasn't a big Huey Lewis. Fancau was at that
- 23:56Speaker 5: time in my life. My musical taste hasn't broadened as much.
- 24:00Speaker 5: But I love Robert Craye and I stayed for Hugh
- 24:02Speaker 5: Loose the News and I was blown away by the
- 24:06Speaker 5: musicality of that band, and they were amazing. However, one
- 24:10Speaker 5: of the best live performances I have seen was Prince
- 24:12Speaker 5: Here Morse Day in the time, Prince Vanity six with
- 24:16Speaker 5: the Purple Rain tour ear. That was an amazing show.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Was eight fours. Yeah, I can't, I don't know.
- 24:22Speaker 5: It was kind of hazy back then, but it was.
- 24:25Speaker 5: It was amazed, purple haze, but it was. It was amazing,
- 24:29Speaker 5: just amazing. But I've seen some just I mean gracious.
- 24:32Speaker 5: I saw David Roth in Nashville, and it was not
- 24:35Speaker 5: long ago, first part of May. Me and Dino Stanley
- 24:39Speaker 5: from Hiadelphia went down there to see it with our
- 24:42Speaker 5: buddy Rich and uh we were passing each other videos
- 24:46Speaker 5: of his bad vocal performances and all over we didn't
- 24:50Speaker 5: see it. We saw live and it was a trip
- 24:52Speaker 5: back through our high school days and it was The
- 24:55Speaker 5: band was amazing. Davdy Roff was amazing and entertaining and
- 24:59Speaker 5: he sang really good for his seventy two year old man.
- 25:02Speaker 2: He's Uh, he's I mean, I'm a I'm a big
- 25:04Speaker 2: ban haleing guy. Going back. I'm a day fan fan. Yeah,
- 25:07Speaker 2: I'm too. I'm too. I And you get in that
- 25:09Speaker 2: argument Tony about Van Halen versus Van Hagar and whatever,
- 25:13Speaker 2: I'll just say they're both good, but they're two different bands,
- 25:15Speaker 2: two different bands. And I love Sammy. Hey, yeah, I
- 25:17Speaker 2: do too, Just just two different bands. All right. We
- 25:20Speaker 2: can talk about music all day, but I want to
- 25:22Speaker 2: talk about Father's Day because it's coming up next week and.
- 25:27Speaker 5: Your place would be a good place for me, a
- 25:29Speaker 5: very good place and people in early shopping. And we
- 25:32Speaker 5: have shortened hours next week due to the bike situation,
- 25:36Speaker 5: and we're right on the road course and we're also
- 25:38Speaker 5: right on a criterion course, and so we will be
- 25:41Speaker 5: closing probably around three o'clock every day, which is kind
- 25:43Speaker 5: of shortened hours unfortunately. However, we are in support of
- 25:48Speaker 5: the bike race and this is something we just have
- 25:50Speaker 5: to adapt and keep moving forward because it brings tons
- 25:52Speaker 5: of people, tons of money downtown and we're excited for it. However,
- 25:57Speaker 5: those our times are flexible. They may change depend on
- 26:00Speaker 5: a bike racing, it on the weather, but just to
- 26:02Speaker 5: stay with our Facebook page and we'll have daily updates
- 26:05Speaker 5: on it also in making note, we are close tomorrow.
- 26:07Speaker 5: I have a private event tomorrow and everybody else is
- 26:10Speaker 5: on vacation my store after we so I'm solo, So
- 26:13Speaker 5: maybe come down. We still have been cash in your points.
- 26:15Speaker 5: We still ever sail going on and it's fun. But yeah,
- 26:19Speaker 5: next week's will be a little short hours.
- 26:21Speaker 2: What's the hottest I mean thing going? I mean or no, no, no, no,
- 26:25Speaker 2: I'm a backup a minute. Not the hottest thing going.
- 26:27Speaker 2: I want to ask you about what are the timeless things?
- 26:30Speaker 2: Every year? Because dads get a lot of crap. I'm
- 26:32Speaker 2: not a dad. Sometimes they get a lot of crap,
- 26:34Speaker 2: but they really don't want.
- 26:35Speaker 5: But well, every Father's Day we do a dad's and
- 26:39Speaker 5: grads thing with more and Giles leather goods and these
- 26:42Speaker 5: are airloom quality leather bags, accessories, wallets, briefcases, portfolios and
- 26:49Speaker 5: they are made in Lynchburg, Virginia. We've cared them for
- 26:53Speaker 5: twenty years and it's just high quality and we have
- 26:57Speaker 5: then they send me a bunch of pretty much have
- 26:59Speaker 5: a whole collecttioneered. Actually today's the last day of that
- 27:02Speaker 5: to take advantage and we have twenty percent off of
- 27:04Speaker 5: all of that, even special ordered. There's this beautiful stuff
- 27:07Speaker 5: and those are timeless gifts for dads and grads.
- 27:10Speaker 2: And somebody could probably come in and do like gift
- 27:14Speaker 2: cards or something gift cards. We can be a good thing.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Let dad get what he wants.
- 27:18Speaker 5: We have some gift sets also from Jack Black, which
- 27:21Speaker 5: is really popular. Has a good sampling of a popular
- 27:25Speaker 5: product there. And then we've sold a lot of suits
- 27:29Speaker 5: for dads. Come in, he needs one at one last
- 27:31Speaker 5: suit before we lay him down in it, which is
- 27:35Speaker 5: because that's where we get the money up front.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Yes, you know the truth and advertising there, and you
- 27:40Speaker 2: mentioned graduates and they always used to say, anyway, I
- 27:43Speaker 2: don't know whether they still do. You and I are old,
- 27:45Speaker 2: but they used to say that everybody, every every young
- 27:48Speaker 2: man graduating high school should have a suit. And I
- 27:51Speaker 2: mean it's still true and they still do.
- 27:52Speaker 5: We sell a lot of graduation suits a lot, and
- 27:56Speaker 5: of course nobody ever wears a suit anymore, which is
- 27:57Speaker 5: total bs because this there's still our number one selling
- 28:01Speaker 5: product and other stores number one selling product and the
- 28:04Speaker 5: men's clothing business. But yeah, but you need one good suit,
- 28:07Speaker 5: whether you're gonna wear a suit at work or not.
- 28:08Speaker 5: You still need a good suit for events, for casions,
- 28:11Speaker 5: and it's a big deal.
- 28:14Speaker 2: And one of the great things about your place too
- 28:16Speaker 2: for people that are how we should How should I
- 28:18Speaker 2: say this? Very oddly built like myself a marshmallow with
- 28:22Speaker 2: four toothpick sticking out of it is how I describe
- 28:24Speaker 2: myself to people.
- 28:25Speaker 5: You can do you know, whether you're shaped like job
- 28:28Speaker 5: of the Hut or an Adonis, we can fit you
- 28:32Speaker 5: and you'll look nice and you'll feel good about yourself.
- 28:34Speaker 2: And I think we mentioned shoes. You got to always
- 28:36Speaker 2: have a great slice and shoes.
- 28:37Speaker 5: Yeah, great shoes carry Alan Edmunds, Johnson and Murphy and
- 28:40Speaker 5: our Italian brand De Bianco. Right now, we have some
- 28:43Speaker 5: great shoe clearances going on. I have some shoes marked down.
- 28:46Speaker 5: I mean, like from seventy dollars, just fantastic quality shoes.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Take all my money, Take all Ruthands money, Ruth Fans Texas.
- 28:56Speaker 2: The greatest concert I ever saw was actually a Gomart
- 28:59Speaker 2: ballpark than Apple at the Power Park, def Leopard and
- 29:01Speaker 2: Brian Adams back in five. I remember that show. It
- 29:03Speaker 2: was a good show. It was It was a very
- 29:05Speaker 2: good show. Who's on your dream list of concerts that
- 29:07Speaker 2: you've never seen that you'd want. Led Zeppelin, Okay, do
- 29:10Speaker 2: you want to think about it. That's anyone I haven't
- 29:14Speaker 2: seen and I will never see it. Okay, have you
- 29:17Speaker 2: seen The Stones?
- 29:17Speaker 5: I've seen it eight or nine times.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Okay, Springsteen.
- 29:20Speaker 5: I'm not a Springsteen fan at all.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Okay, all right, I don't care about it. That's all right. Uh,
- 29:26Speaker 2: they did somebody you're consistent? Yeah, Tex says, how about
- 29:30Speaker 2: suits for church?
- 29:33Speaker 5: Tell us some churches, some guys dressed for shirts, some don't.
- 29:36Speaker 5: Depends on the I mean suits or suits, right, wear
- 29:40Speaker 5: suits for church and some don't. It depends on where
- 29:43Speaker 5: you're going and what's going on there.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Tony's got you, He's got you taken care of. I'll
- 29:47Speaker 2: say that I like to dress up for church.
- 29:50Speaker 5: I think it's a matter of respect.
- 29:52Speaker 2: But yeah, but if you have my opinion, that's your opinion. Well,
- 29:55Speaker 2: I'm a big sports coats kind of guy, and uh,
- 29:57Speaker 2: and Tony always keeps being sports coats and and shoes.
- 30:00Speaker 2: And we've actually got a little partnership on pants and
- 30:04Speaker 2: oh I'm supposed to wear pants. That's supposed to wear that. Well,
- 30:07Speaker 2: nobody can see even when we do metro news television,
- 30:09Speaker 2: nobody can see me from the waist down. I mean, god,
- 30:12Speaker 2: I gotta wear pants now. But Tony's got it all
- 30:14Speaker 2: down there. So if you get a chance, go down
- 30:16Speaker 2: and see him. He's got the sales event going on
- 30:19Speaker 2: and uh my guy. And he's one of the true
- 30:21Speaker 2: champions of the city at Charleston too. And nobody loves
- 30:24Speaker 2: the city more than you do. Nobody gives back, and
- 30:26Speaker 2: nobody preaches more truth on social media. That sometimes rubs
- 30:32Speaker 2: people the wrong way, but in the ninety nine point

- 33:50Speaker 2: The Thrift Store is going to be just reopening, and
- 33:53Speaker 2: Jessica Hall is with us right now. Jessica, how you doing,
- 33:55Speaker 2: Welcome back to the show. Good to have you on.
- 33:56Speaker 15: I'm great.
- 33:57Speaker 7: How are you doing?
- 33:57Speaker 2: I am doing fine? Thank you for for being here,
- 34:01Speaker 2: So tell us about We'll get specific on the reopening
- 34:04Speaker 2: of the thrist store here Manmentelli, but I want to
- 34:06Speaker 2: talk specifically about hospice care. Yeah, you hear that term
- 34:10Speaker 2: thrown out there. A lot many of us have gone
- 34:12Speaker 2: through it. I went through it with my father before
- 34:15Speaker 2: he passed. Tell us what the actual definition of hospice carriers.
- 34:21Speaker 2: I know that sounds like the dumbest question in the world,
- 34:23Speaker 2: but there's so many things that can go into hospice care.
- 34:25Speaker 15: Absolutely so, hospice care is end of life care, but
- 34:33Speaker 15: it really is a holistic type of care that surrounds
- 34:37Speaker 15: the patient and the family. So typically it happens when
- 34:42Speaker 15: there is a six month or less prognosis. Now, when
- 34:46Speaker 15: we say that, that is if you dropped that patient
- 34:52Speaker 15: in the woods with no care, that's that six month
- 34:55Speaker 15: or less. So I think that that's an important distinction.
- 34:58Speaker 15: So that's what no care at all, that that illness,
- 35:03Speaker 15: that disease, that everything would run its course.
- 35:06Speaker 1: In that six months or less.
- 35:07Speaker 15: But you have to remember that hospice is care.
- 35:10Speaker 2: So very often.
- 35:14Speaker 15: Our patients can can live longer than six months, they
- 35:18Speaker 15: can live less than six months. So we like to
- 35:21Speaker 15: get patients as early as possible because of the holistic
- 35:24Speaker 15: nature of our care. It surrounds the family, it surrounds
- 35:27Speaker 15: the loved ones, and it surrounds the patient. And it
- 35:31Speaker 15: includes nurses, It includes a physician, It includes a social worker,
- 35:36Speaker 15: It includes CNAs, It includes volunteers that do errands, run
- 35:42Speaker 15: and get prescriptions, hold hands, It includes bereavement care, it
- 35:48Speaker 15: includes spiritual care. It really is a holistic type of healthcare.
- 35:52Speaker 2: And that's the thing that I think interests me the
- 35:55Speaker 2: most about that, Jessica, is that it's not just the
- 35:58Speaker 2: medical care, because sometimes at that point there's only so
- 36:04Speaker 2: much the medicines are going to do, and there's things
- 36:07Speaker 2: that are needed that aren't necessarily medical care. And that's
- 36:10Speaker 2: one of the great things that one of the key
- 36:13Speaker 2: things about hospice care, in my opinion, is that it's
- 36:16Speaker 2: not just the medical there's a lot more that goes
- 36:18Speaker 2: along with them.
- 36:19Speaker 15: And that's one of the great things about being a
- 36:20Speaker 15: nonprofit hospitals provider is that we see we see needs
- 36:25Speaker 15: that aren't medical. So we see where a patient might
- 36:28Speaker 15: benefit from musical therapy, and we know that that's not
- 36:34Speaker 15: a therapy that's covered by traditional medicare. Medicaid private insurance,
- 36:39Speaker 15: but we want to do that therapy, and that's where
- 36:42Speaker 15: things like our thrift store come in and we can
- 36:44Speaker 15: meet those We can cover those costs through those gaps,
- 36:48Speaker 15: through those thrift store proceeds or acupuncture, or we see
- 36:53Speaker 15: that a ramp into the home would be beneficial for
- 36:57Speaker 15: mobility for that patient. That's not something that's covered Medicare,
- 37:00Speaker 15: Medicaid private insurance. But by filling those gaps through proceeds
- 37:04Speaker 15: from a thrift store or our Friends of Hospice program,
- 37:07Speaker 15: we can meet those needs because we are a not
- 37:09Speaker 15: for profit hospice.
- 37:11Speaker 2: Talked again with Jessica Hall from the Hospice Care but
- 37:13Speaker 2: Dave Island Show and find Vadieline Brown too, part by
- 37:15Speaker 2: the all New Generations forward of Hurricane Visit Generations for
- 37:18Speaker 2: dot Com. Let's talk about the thrift store now.
- 37:20Speaker 15: Yeah, we opened our Heart to Home charity shop about
- 37:24Speaker 15: a year ago as sort of a little pilot at
- 37:27Speaker 15: a small space that we already owned over by Alzheimer's
- 37:31Speaker 15: Association across our parking lot on Patrick Street, and it
- 37:35Speaker 15: did really well. It was a lot of fun and
- 37:38Speaker 15: we got a great response from the community. And so
- 37:41Speaker 15: now we are expanding. We're doing grand reopening on Monday
- 37:46Speaker 15: from ten to one with an official ribbon cutting at
- 37:48Speaker 15: eleven fifteen. And it's sixteen oh three Canal Boulevard, so
- 37:54Speaker 15: the old Healthy Life Market, So right beside the new
- 37:56Speaker 15: Goodwill that opened, we're opening our new charity.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Great location.
- 38:00Speaker 15: It's wonderful. It's right across the street from our office
- 38:03Speaker 15: still but a much bigger space. We're actually still accepting
- 38:08Speaker 15: donations at our old space. That's going to be our
- 38:11Speaker 15: donation drop off location, but the shopping location is going
- 38:13Speaker 15: to be that new location.
- 38:14Speaker 2: What kind of things do you I means a little
- 38:16Speaker 2: bit of everything, I guess because it is a thrift store, so.
- 38:18Speaker 15: Furniture, clothing, home goods.
- 38:21Speaker 2: We've got it all all right. And how do you
- 38:23Speaker 2: go if somebody wants to make donations? I know you
- 38:26Speaker 2: said that they can drive there, But if somebody doesn't
- 38:28Speaker 2: have the means to drive there, do you have we
- 38:30Speaker 2: have a truck.
- 38:31Speaker 6: We will come to you.
- 38:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:32Speaker 15: And actually I most of the times if someone has
- 38:35Speaker 15: expressed an interest, I was like, I'll come and get it,
- 38:38Speaker 15: you know. I'm is really truly a team effort from
- 38:43Speaker 15: our all of our staff is so excited for it
- 38:46Speaker 15: because it does benefit one hundred percent of the proceeds
- 38:48Speaker 15: benefit our patients.
- 38:49Speaker 2: So we're so excited about the possibilities for this.
- 38:53Speaker 15: And it's not it's it's you don't see it as
- 38:56Speaker 15: much in the States, but it's very much a h
- 39:01Speaker 15: thrist stores are very much connected to hospices throughout internationally
- 39:04Speaker 15: through with hospices.
- 39:06Speaker 2: It's a wonderful it's a wonderful thing that you guys
- 39:09Speaker 2: are doing. God bless you for what you're doing. Is
- 39:11Speaker 2: I said, I went through this with with my father
- 39:13Speaker 2: years ago before he passed, and it was just it was, uh,
- 39:16Speaker 2: it's hospice care in general, but specifically with you folks.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Being a nonprofit organization, you can you can do, as
- 39:23Speaker 2: you said, things other than just the medical. The medical
- 39:26Speaker 2: is important, obviously, but there's things you can do other
- 39:28Speaker 2: than just just that people may not know about.
- 39:30Speaker 15: Yeah, it's we were so proud of the care that
- 39:33Speaker 15: we give. In fact, one of the great things is
- 39:36Speaker 15: the care that hospice provides in West Virginia ranks among
- 39:41Speaker 15: the top in the nation. If you look at the
- 39:44Speaker 15: satisfaction scores of families nationally. West Virginia consistently ranks among
- 39:50Speaker 15: the top five.
- 39:51Speaker 2: All right, give us all the details again because you're reopening,
- 39:55Speaker 2: and give us all the details, give us your hours,
- 39:57Speaker 2: give us all the stuff.
- 39:59Speaker 15: So may sorry, June fifteenth, from ten am to one
- 40:05Speaker 15: pm with the official ribbon cutting at eleven fifteen. We're
- 40:09Speaker 15: going to have refreshments. The new popcorn shop on the
- 40:13Speaker 15: West Side is going to provide popcorn. It will have
- 40:17Speaker 15: door prizes, shop tours, shopping events. So that'll all be
- 40:23Speaker 15: on Monday, and then our shop hours will be from
- 40:28Speaker 15: ten to seven pm.
- 40:30Speaker 2: And that's how many days a week is that?
- 40:31Speaker 15: That is Monday through Saturday, Monday.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Through Saturday ten to seven. Have a website or social
- 40:38Speaker 2: media or anything like that.
- 40:39Speaker 15: Yeah, So our social media we're on Facebook at Heart

- 40:57Speaker 2: to reopen in that new location, the former Healthy Life
- 41:00Speaker 2: Market over on Patrick Street, and it is going to
- 41:03Speaker 2: be Monday morning and We hope everybody will come over
- 41:06Speaker 2: there for the ribbon cutting and have some refreshments from
- 41:08Speaker 2: the popcorn shop there and just take a look. And
- 41:11Speaker 2: remember that it is a nonprofit organization, so they take
- 41:15Speaker 2: donations of any kind. You got some stuff that did
- 41:17Speaker 2: you'd like to give them, or if you want to
- 41:20Speaker 2: donate to them by buying some stuff for you you
