- 1:07Speaker 2: very very special place we went to. We'll talk about
- 1:09Speaker 2: it later in the show, but I haven't seen this
- 1:11Speaker 2: lady in a couple of weeks, and I'm really excited
- 1:13Speaker 2: to see her again, Linda Parillo, welcome.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Back, Thank you, Kevin, and you welcome back to.
- 1:18Speaker 2: And you are you are a new Nonah again. I
- 1:22Speaker 2: am Nona again. Is there an Italian term for Nona again?
- 1:26Speaker 4: No? No, no Cora, I would say, no, no Ancora. I
- 1:29Speaker 4: am another girl.
- 1:32Speaker 3: No name yet.
- 1:33Speaker 2: How many grand kids?
- 1:34Speaker 1: Is this?
- 1:35Speaker 4: Two?
- 1:35Speaker 3: And one on the way so you'll.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Have you'll have three? How soon will the third one
- 1:40Speaker 2: be here?
- 1:40Speaker 3: November?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Okay? Oh wow, twenty six A big year for you, lady,
- 1:45Speaker 2: big year.
- 1:46Speaker 4: And they're all little girls, and oh my god, it's amazing,
- 1:50Speaker 4: it really is.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Now the question that I know that my bride would
- 1:54Speaker 2: have if she was sitting here is are you going
- 1:57Speaker 2: to turn them into little ladies? Because that's that's all
- 2:01Speaker 2: she would think.
- 2:01Speaker 3: About that divas Kevin.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Let's but you're gonna buy them all the dresses and
- 2:08Speaker 2: have all the ribbons and all the all the cute
- 2:10Speaker 2: little shoes, and yeah, we.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Just need stuff, you know, I just need stuff.
- 2:16Speaker 2: You really don't like that's the whole that's like the
- 2:18Speaker 2: whole purpose of faith is like we don't really need stuff.
- 2:21Speaker 3: But human with good faith and I still need stuff.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I love I love that I love that. All right.
- 2:31Speaker 2: You won't win any theological discussions, but it's I love
- 2:34Speaker 2: the honesty in it. That's true. So and there and
- 2:39Speaker 2: there is grand baby. What number one? That's number one?
- 2:42Speaker 3: Yes, that's Scotty. You want to say hi?
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yeah, Scotty's going to make a couple of appearances tonight.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I have a feeling.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Hello, Scotty, how are you hi? Yuh? Don't you can
- 2:54Speaker 2: say hi to me? And don't think about the millions
- 2:56Speaker 2: of people listening right now all over the country.
- 2:59Speaker 3: So it's just say, I'm a big sister.
- 3:04Speaker 2: And are you excited about it?
- 3:06Speaker 5: Ain't my sister?
- 3:09Speaker 2: There you go, Well, that's gonna be okay, that's going
- 3:12Speaker 2: to be fun. Grandma's got to do. Grandma's got to
- 3:15Speaker 2: do the No No has got to do the radio show.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I know, the No No radio show. That's it.
- 3:20Speaker 3: That's why I look like this morning.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Well nobody knows that this isn't television. You don't have
- 3:25Speaker 2: to give away your trade secrets today.
- 3:28Speaker 3: That means which non.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Stop stop you stop that now? You stop that now.
- 3:35Speaker 2: So speaking of scary things, not you, I don't know.
- 3:40Speaker 2: So last week when we were away as a family,
- 3:43Speaker 2: I didn't turn on the UH. I didn't turn on
- 3:45Speaker 2: the cable channels at all, so I didn't watch any
- 3:47Speaker 2: Fox News. I didn't like, you know, I got a
- 3:50Speaker 2: little bit of news on my phone. It's we're just
- 3:52Speaker 2: kind of at the beach or whatever. But then I
- 3:55Speaker 2: get home over the weekend and I see these videos
- 3:58Speaker 2: on Instagram of video after video of what looks like
- 4:06Speaker 2: an all out invasion of Spain from a bunch of
- 4:11Speaker 2: people just literally running on shore and running into the country.
- 4:17Speaker 2: And I'm reading statistics today that you've got Spanish, Israeli
- 4:23Speaker 2: Spanish Jews that only number about forty nine thousand in
- 4:26Speaker 2: the whole country, and they estimate that maybe sixty thousand
- 4:29Speaker 2: Muslim migrants came into the country over the last few days.
- 4:34Speaker 2: And I just was like, whoa wait a second. First
- 4:37Speaker 2: of all, Spain is not normally a hotbed of migration discussion,
- 4:41Speaker 2: So what's going on there? And do you think this
- 4:44Speaker 2: impacts like this the Spain tourism.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Well, it's this city and it's located very close to Africa, right,
- 4:55Speaker 4: So as Italy is close to the end of the Boot,
- 4:59Speaker 4: is close to maur Sicily is close to Morocco, this
- 5:02Speaker 4: is city is called I had never heard of it. Sutah,
- 5:06Speaker 4: that is a CEU t A and it is a
- 5:09Speaker 4: very if you looked at it on a map and
- 5:11Speaker 4: you saw anything on TV Kevin, it is it's just
- 5:15Speaker 4: calling for stuff like this to happen, and it's unfortunate.
- 5:19Speaker 4: But you know, these migrants did what they did in
- 5:23Speaker 4: the United States. They found the loophole, they came over,
- 5:26Speaker 4: They climbed the fences, they sweat. I mean, if you
- 5:29Speaker 4: saw any of the footage, the rafts, they spent so
- 5:33Speaker 4: much money on these people, they say they don't have
- 5:34Speaker 4: any money. They must have bought out every raft that
- 5:38Speaker 4: that that that Amazon could have delivered to them into Morocco,
- 5:43Speaker 4: into Walmart, Rock Morocco, Walmart Morocco must have sold out
- 5:47Speaker 4: of tubes because I never saw anything like this in
- 5:50Speaker 4: my life. And here's the kicker. There is a law
- 5:55Speaker 4: that says that you cannot arrest a migrant and if
- 6:01Speaker 4: they come over via water, and I think I got
- 6:05Speaker 4: that right because I heard that and I said, well, well,
- 6:09Speaker 4: then how are you gonna wrestle? What are they driving?
- 6:11Speaker 4: I mean, they're not driving. So you see the customs,
- 6:16Speaker 4: the guards, well, the Spanish army pulling these people out
- 6:20Speaker 4: of the water in their bathing suits and stuff and.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Not doing a thing.
- 6:25Speaker 4: They just got onto land and they ran like a
- 6:28Speaker 4: bunch of hoodlums, just running through the streets.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Running on the pavement like they had hit the lottery.
- 6:35Speaker 4: And I got to tell you, I'm gonna I mean,
- 6:37Speaker 4: if I get eggs thrown at my window today, it's
- 6:40Speaker 4: my own fault.
- 6:41Speaker 3: It was horrible. It was just a disgusting free for all.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Well, what's really confusing about it, I think for common
- 6:50Speaker 2: sense people is have we lost our mind? Is this
- 6:54Speaker 2: like something that we do just you know, are they
- 6:57Speaker 2: just so uneducated, our progressive, liberal leaning people just so
- 7:02Speaker 2: not in the knowledge of the things that they don't
- 7:03Speaker 2: actually know these things?
- 7:05Speaker 4: Well, I think that they're not even thinking is what's happening?
- 7:09Speaker 3: And it's I didn't even know what to say, to
- 7:13Speaker 3: be quite.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Honest with you, Like where where is the limitation?
- 7:18Speaker 3: That's what I want to Where is the limitation? How
- 7:20Speaker 3: is this allowed?
- 7:21Speaker 4: And you're right, You've got these Muslims that are trying
- 7:24Speaker 4: to escape and coming over and these women are there
- 7:27Speaker 4: greeting them.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Not only are these women greeting them.
- 7:30Speaker 4: You have people, you have armed officers of the Spanish
- 7:36Speaker 4: army pulling these people.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Out of the water. What's next?
- 7:40Speaker 4: So there's no boundary. Where was the boundary? Where was
- 7:45Speaker 4: the no, you can't do this yet I'm trying to
- 7:49Speaker 4: figure out how they're going to stop them.
- 7:51Speaker 3: But you know, my father used.
- 7:53Speaker 4: To say things like and not pertaining to this, obviously,
- 7:56Speaker 4: but once you let one in, you're going to let
- 7:59Speaker 4: everyone in and they're not going to stop.
- 8:01Speaker 3: So how are they going to stop?
- 8:02Speaker 1: Well?
- 8:03Speaker 2: And in recent years, Germany has experienced this, France has
- 8:07Speaker 2: experienced this, There have been I mean Italy started to
- 8:10Speaker 2: experience it and then they clamped it down and shut
- 8:12Speaker 2: it off and they fixed the problem. But if you
- 8:16Speaker 2: leave that door open, as America discovered for the four
- 8:19Speaker 2: years that Biden was here, it will overrun your hospitals,
- 8:23Speaker 2: your schools, your ability to enforce the laws, et cetera.
- 8:26Speaker 2: And you're not talking about people that are openly minded
- 8:29Speaker 2: and wanting to come make your country better. You're talking
- 8:31Speaker 2: about closed minded people that want to take over.
- 8:35Speaker 4: It was like I saw this and I went, how
- 8:38Speaker 4: are they going to how are they going to stop this?
- 8:40Speaker 3: It wasn't just like, oh my god, the ten people.
- 8:44Speaker 4: The twenty people, the thirty people that they stopped at
- 8:46Speaker 4: the border.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Right, sixty thousand people in one weekend mass.
- 8:51Speaker 4: It was an onslaught like I have never ever seen fun.
- 8:54Speaker 3: And now guess what, they're all.
- 8:55Speaker 4: There, They're all there, and now they're you know, they're
- 8:58Speaker 4: going out into different far to Spain. They're going to
- 9:01Speaker 4: start making their lives.
- 9:03Speaker 3: They're going to start pickpocketing, they're going to start raping.
- 9:05Speaker 2: They're going to start they had they had over the
- 9:08Speaker 2: last four days, they've had a six thousand percent increase
- 9:11Speaker 2: in rapes.
- 9:12Speaker 3: I believe you had.
- 9:13Speaker 2: You had men masturbating on the beaches in front of children,
- 9:19Speaker 2: in front of children. This this activity was taking place.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Disgusting and if the Spanish government doesn't step up, they're
- 9:25Speaker 2: going to have a real problem on their hands. Sorry
- 9:29Speaker 2: for the uh, the graphic images. They're friends, but this
- 9:31Speaker 2: is that's how that's how dramatic it actually is. It's
- 9:35Speaker 2: it's it's a it's a human crisis that the Spanish
- 9:38Speaker 2: people are about to have visit upon them in degrees
- 9:41Speaker 2: they've never seen before.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Age.
- 9:42Speaker 2: All right, we've got a special guest joining us, someone
- 9:45Speaker 2: who made one of Linda's recent adventures very pleasurable, and
- 9:49Speaker 2: we'll talk about the Intercontinental in Miami, and then a
- 9:52Speaker 2: little bit later on a fresh review of Kate Made
- 9:56Speaker 2: New Jersey, Don't Go.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Away from New York. It's Radio Night Life with Kevin McCullough.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Welcome back. It's Radio night Live. It is the Tuesday edition,
- 10:11Speaker 2: which means we talk about all things travel and just
- 10:14Speaker 2: a reminder coming up on September. First, you want to
- 10:17Speaker 2: be with us in person, you got to go to
- 10:19Speaker 2: Mario's in Little Lily of Arthur Avenue because Linda's going
- 10:23Speaker 2: to be there signing books. It's going to be a
- 10:25Speaker 2: lot of fun. But Linda, we have something we don't
- 10:28Speaker 2: often have. We have a special guest tonight. Who are
- 10:31Speaker 2: we talking to?
- 10:32Speaker 4: Well, we're going to start with the most special guest
- 10:35Speaker 4: because she has been the most patient guest. We have
- 10:39Speaker 4: had a lot of stops and starts, comings and goings.
- 10:42Speaker 3: I have Gina Jenna and I love her last name.
- 10:48Speaker 4: From Gina, we're going to I want to let you
- 10:50Speaker 4: introduce yourself and your title because I don't.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Want to mess it up.
- 10:54Speaker 4: But I know you are a head honcho with IHG Resorts.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Am I correct?
- 11:00Speaker 5: So yes? Linda, thank you pleasure to be here, and we.
- 11:05Speaker 6: Just I just represent a small slice of the portfolio
- 11:09Speaker 6: down here in Miami. Intercontinental Miami, a luxury hotel that
- 11:14Speaker 6: sits right in downtown Miami on Biscayme Bay, which I
- 11:18Speaker 6: believe you stayed at recently.
- 11:20Speaker 3: I absolutely did.
- 11:21Speaker 4: And this is a lesson in life about never ticking
- 11:24Speaker 4: off your old friends from from was it was.
- 11:28Speaker 2: That a danger you were? You were you afraid you
- 11:31Speaker 2: were going to tick them off?
- 11:33Speaker 4: No, I'm just.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Saying, try not to burn bridges.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Because I reached out to IHG, which I do, like
- 11:41Speaker 4: I'll find out who the head of hospitality is or
- 11:43Speaker 4: media contact or whatever, and it turned out to be
- 11:46Speaker 4: my old friend Frankie Fuentez from a gazillion years.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Ago, and I'm like, oh my god. You see how
- 11:53Speaker 3: life works.
- 11:54Speaker 4: So anyway, long story, sure, Frankie introduces me to Gina.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Gina puts me at the I.
- 12:00Speaker 4: HG Miami, which was right near the port because we
- 12:02Speaker 4: were taking a cruise on NCL the next day and
- 12:07Speaker 4: we wanted to come in the night before.
- 12:09Speaker 3: And I have to tell you.
- 12:11Speaker 4: What as far as logistics, I mean, never mind the
- 12:15Speaker 4: Miami hotspot that it is because I could see it.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Was a Miami hotspot.
- 12:20Speaker 4: The logistics for being so close to the port and
- 12:24Speaker 4: being able to get on your ship in time the
- 12:28Speaker 4: next day, because Gina, am I wrong? That stretch of
- 12:31Speaker 4: land there can be quite cumbersome in traffic to get through.
- 12:38Speaker 4: So we loved it and it was beautiful, it was clean,
- 12:41Speaker 4: it was hip, it was Miami.
- 12:42Speaker 3: We had a beautiful view.
- 12:43Speaker 4: We were on a club level floor, which I know
- 12:45Speaker 4: as Gina's doing.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
- 12:47Speaker 4: What a beautiful spot for family. So Gina, you could
- 12:50Speaker 4: take it over from there.
- 12:51Speaker 6: Thank you so much, and thank you for your kind words. Yeah,
- 12:54Speaker 6: so listen, our location is luxury. To your point, we
- 12:57Speaker 6: are five minutes or less with that traffic to Port
- 13:02Speaker 6: of Miami, and you were able to see the cruise
- 13:05Speaker 6: ship from your window, right, so you maak up. You're
- 13:08Speaker 6: looking at the Port of Miami and all of the ships.
- 13:12Speaker 6: Hotel is very, very special. We've been here forty years,
- 13:17Speaker 6: pinnacle of the downtown Miami skyline and you know, nearly
- 13:22Speaker 6: seven hundred rooms, twenty two suites, Club, Intercontinental Lounge, full service,
- 13:27Speaker 6: beautiful spa, signature steakhouse, restaurants, Starbucks in the lobby, beautiful
- 13:34Speaker 6: arrival as you have seen with the communal lobby, beautiful skylight,
- 13:40Speaker 6: you know, and obviously just you know, service falling all
- 13:44Speaker 6: over you from the moment to arrival to departure, with
- 13:48Speaker 6: every touch point throughout the Wow.
- 13:49Speaker 2: It sounds like Linda would have hated that, Like I
- 13:51Speaker 2: can't imagine.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Well, listen, I.
- 13:54Speaker 4: Have to interrupt Gina for a hot second because one
- 13:58Speaker 4: of my sticking points, and Kevin knows this too, is
- 14:01Speaker 4: your sale. And what I mean by your sale, your
- 14:04Speaker 4: sale is it's not your CEO, it's not your big wig,
- 14:09Speaker 4: it's your frontline person, it's your desk person. It's whoever
- 14:14Speaker 4: answers your phone. That's your sale right there. Those are
- 14:18Speaker 4: the most important people you have in your pyramid. I'm
- 14:23Speaker 4: telling you they are so One of the most wonderful
- 14:27Speaker 4: things I remember is that when we got to the
- 14:29Speaker 4: front desk and we checked in, our plane was really delayed,
- 14:32Speaker 4: the kids were tired, We.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Just wanted to get through check in.
- 14:36Speaker 5: Don't touch it.
- 14:39Speaker 4: So they were so hospitable and so quick and so
- 14:44Speaker 4: efficient in getting us upstairs, because you know, sometimes the
- 14:48Speaker 4: check in procedure.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Can be a little painful, especially when you've.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Been traveling and you just want to get to your room.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Okay, just give me the keys.
- 14:58Speaker 4: I don't need the map. I just need to get
- 15:01Speaker 4: to my room. They were I even forget his name.
- 15:05Speaker 4: They were wonderful. We were upstairs within five minutes of
- 15:08Speaker 4: walking up to the desk.
- 15:10Speaker 3: And that sold me on your property right there.
- 15:14Speaker 5: Wonderful. Thank you for that.
- 15:16Speaker 6: You know, the one really special thing about this property
- 15:19Speaker 6: is that, you know, we go by this motto of
- 15:21Speaker 6: one great team, but the longeitivity of the colleagues that
- 15:26Speaker 6: we have here, Like the gentleman you'll meet at the Dorman, Henry,
- 15:31Speaker 6: he has been here for damn near twenty five years.
- 15:34Speaker 6: Our concierge thirty years. So in addition to yes, delivering
- 15:40Speaker 6: a service and being their career.
- 15:43Speaker 5: We also care.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Yeah, and that Eva.
- 15:48Speaker 6: This is all of our second home, you know, Intercontinental Miami,
- 15:52Speaker 6: So we have the utmost respect for our guests, you know, delivery,
- 15:57Speaker 6: communication and to your point of phial.
- 16:01Speaker 2: How do you So? I'm curious about that because in
- 16:04Speaker 2: a day in which there are so many options for
- 16:08Speaker 2: the consumer, to kind of have what you're describing, at
- 16:12Speaker 2: least to my ears, is kind of an old school
- 16:14Speaker 2: idea of you know, face to face quality over quantity
- 16:21Speaker 2: and really thinking through the tiniest details of this, how
- 16:26Speaker 2: do you do that efficiently? Because you said efficiency is important,
- 16:30Speaker 2: it seems like that would be more costly than what
- 16:33Speaker 2: a lot of your competitors would be able to do
- 16:35Speaker 2: it for.
- 16:36Speaker 6: You know, at the end of the day, it comes
- 16:38Speaker 6: down to leadership inside the hotel, behind the scenes that
- 16:44Speaker 6: are constantly providing the tools and the trainings, but not
- 16:48Speaker 6: only that, the open communication with our colleagues and the
- 16:52Speaker 6: expectations and think of yourself as a guest and as
- 16:56Speaker 6: a traveler, you do, how do you want to be treated?
- 17:00Speaker 6: You know, to Linda's point, you want to get in
- 17:03Speaker 6: and out of that front desk efficiently within minutes and
- 17:06Speaker 6: just get to your room after a long travel day.
- 17:08Speaker 6: So I truly feel that it is the leadership that
- 17:12Speaker 6: you have all of those makings of your pre shifts
- 17:17Speaker 6: that happened behind the scenes before you guys even see
- 17:20Speaker 6: it as an arrival experience. And frankly, just it goes
- 17:25Speaker 6: down to the basic fundamentals of luxury within the workplace,
- 17:29Speaker 6: respect within the workplace. It's all of those makings, those
- 17:33Speaker 6: fundamentals that potentially have been lost in the hospitality industry
- 17:39Speaker 6: because we have evolved so much technology QR codes, you know,
- 17:44Speaker 6: there's nothing like that human interaction.
- 17:48Speaker 4: I have a question. I'm sorry Kevin for one sting
- 17:51Speaker 4: because listen, since the beginning of time, and I feel
- 17:55Speaker 4: I just had my fifty ninth birthday that I have
- 17:59Speaker 4: been here since the beginning of time and been traveling
- 18:03Speaker 4: that whole time. Intercontinental was around.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Before IHG obviously.
- 18:11Speaker 4: And Intercontinental was always a homemark for luxury stays.
- 18:18Speaker 3: We know this right for forever. So how did the
- 18:22Speaker 3: two brands fuse?
- 18:24Speaker 4: How did IHG and Intercontinental become a whole?
- 18:30Speaker 3: If they are a whole, how does that work for you?
- 18:32Speaker 5: So with IHG being the.
- 18:36Speaker 6: Family tree, as you say, the brand overall, and then
- 18:40Speaker 6: now there's you know, however, we have fifteen sixteen seventeen
- 18:44Speaker 6: brands under the IHG umbrella.
- 18:47Speaker 5: You know.
- 18:48Speaker 6: Now we have the Luxury Lifestyle division, which offers a
- 18:52Speaker 6: variety of luxury options for guests.
- 18:55Speaker 5: Where you have the Kimptons, you have.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Gina hold that thought. Let me take this. We got
- 19:00Speaker 2: do a time out and pay some bills when we
- 19:01Speaker 2: come back. Pick up on that idea, because I do.
- 19:04Speaker 2: That's a very fascinating question. I want you to have
- 19:06Speaker 2: plenty of time to answer it. Linda Parillo, Calvin mccullaugh.
- 19:10Speaker 2: It is Travel Tuesday, don't go anywhere.
- 19:16Speaker 1: And now I'm from New York back to Radio night Life.
- 19:20Speaker 1: You're Kevin McCulla.
- 19:22Speaker 2: And we're back. It's the Travel Tuesday night, our Radio
- 19:25Speaker 2: Night Live. Calvin McCullough, Linda Perillo, glad to be with you.
- 19:28Speaker 2: And don't forget September first where at Mario's in Arthur
- 19:32Speaker 2: Avenue in the Bronx. You're gonna want to come see us.
- 19:35Speaker 2: That's gonna be a lot of fun. But tonight we're
- 19:37Speaker 2: in We're in Miami, we're living it up and very
- 19:44Speaker 2: special opportunity to talk with one of the great properties there.
- 19:48Speaker 2: And Gina, you were saying going into the break that
- 19:52Speaker 2: or Linda asked about the joining of Intercontinental and what
- 19:57Speaker 2: the merger has done and sort of how that laid out,
- 20:01Speaker 2: and I wanted to make sure you had plenty of
- 20:03Speaker 2: time to explain.
- 20:04Speaker 5: Sure.
- 20:04Speaker 6: So Intercontinental brand itself came into the IHG portfolio. I
- 20:11Speaker 6: believe it was back in the early two thousands, I
- 20:13Speaker 6: want to say maybe two thousand and three, and since
- 20:17Speaker 6: then there were a handful of brands under Intercontinental Hotels Group,
- 20:23Speaker 6: which defines the luxury and lifestyle portfolio. You know, there's
- 20:28Speaker 6: the premium collection, but from a luxury standpoint, you know,
- 20:32Speaker 6: there are stunning international luxury brands like six Senses, there's
- 20:40Speaker 6: Regent Hotels Asia, and then obviously there's one their first
- 20:45Speaker 6: time it landed in the US out in Santa Monica, California.
- 20:49Speaker 6: The first Regent Hotels as beautiful, I'm sure, Intercontinental Hotels,
- 20:56Speaker 6: the Kimpton Hotels and Resorts, and then the to Go
- 21:00Speaker 6: and Vignette. So there are a handful that make up
- 21:03Speaker 6: the luxury lifestyle. And then you go down to the premium,
- 21:07Speaker 6: which is your crown plaza, it's your Holiday Inns.
- 21:11Speaker 3: You're saying to consider that premium they consider. Okay, I'm
- 21:14Speaker 3: being again. I'm probably dating.
- 21:16Speaker 4: Myself here, Gina, Holiday Inns, Holiday and Express.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Are they falling under there too?
- 21:22Speaker 1: Like?
- 21:23Speaker 5: Really, well, I'm gonna give you a little tidbit.
- 21:26Speaker 6: The next time you're in Naples, Florida, stay at the
- 21:28Speaker 6: Holiday and Un let's have this conversation.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Really, I'm gonna call you, Gina.
- 21:33Speaker 4: I'm going I'm going, what would you say if you
- 21:38Speaker 4: could pick any property.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Domestic to stay at.
- 21:41Speaker 4: If someone said, Gina, We're gonna give you one overnight
- 21:45Speaker 4: at an IHG property.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Direct me where am I going?
- 21:48Speaker 6: And I can't say mine, Yeah, yeah, yeah, I can't
- 21:51Speaker 6: say my m No.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Been there and domestic.
- 21:56Speaker 7: So I'll tell you a really unique special property from
- 22:04Speaker 7: Intercontinental I have to say, is Intercon downtown La?
- 22:11Speaker 3: Really Okay?
- 22:12Speaker 6: It is one of the tallest, you know, the the
- 22:17Speaker 6: that make up the La skyline.
- 22:19Speaker 5: But the lobby is on the seventieth floor.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Oh, it's one of those Oh my gosh, it's about.
- 22:26Speaker 3: The riff raff lobby.
- 22:27Speaker 5: We call that three hundred and sixty degree.
- 22:30Speaker 6: You see the Hollywood sign, you see Dodger Stadium on
- 22:34Speaker 6: one side.
- 22:35Speaker 4: It's it's stunning, really, So it's that very un California.
- 22:40Speaker 3: And so does Kevin.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Kevin, so they use so do they use the sixty
- 22:44Speaker 2: nine floors beneath them. That's where the rooms are. So
- 22:47Speaker 2: you're going up through the guts of the hotel to
- 22:49Speaker 2: check in and then you're coming down.
- 22:51Speaker 5: To your room exactly. Yep.
- 22:53Speaker 2: That's not unusual actually for places like Atlantic City and
- 22:57Speaker 2: some places they say that that decide that they just
- 23:01Speaker 2: don't want the reception to be right off the ground level.
- 23:06Speaker 2: And I am appreciative actually of how Atlantic City approaches
- 23:09Speaker 2: it in some of those places, because they put the
- 23:12Speaker 2: casinos actually blow where the living space is. So if
- 23:15Speaker 2: you've got a family, yeah, exactly, the drunks can wander
- 23:20Speaker 2: in and gamble, and you can get the kids, You
- 23:22Speaker 2: can get the kids above them, so that they're not,
- 23:24Speaker 2: you know, polluted by the by the gambling element.
- 23:27Speaker 3: You didn't like the word riff raft, you use drunks.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Drunks, that's it. They just stumble right.
- 23:32Speaker 3: In to get right into the colloquial stick.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Or or the junkies or whatever. You know, whoever, whoever,
- 23:38Speaker 2: whoever's had a really good time and needs to go
- 23:41Speaker 2: blow their money. You know, that's that's what they're that's
- 23:43Speaker 2: what they're wanting to do there.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Oh my god, that's hysterical. I'm sorry, genuine Vince interrupt you.
- 23:48Speaker 3: We do that a lot.
- 23:48Speaker 6: Go ahead, No, no, no, So that would that would
- 23:52Speaker 6: be my choice if I had to choose one.
- 23:54Speaker 5: I appreciate it because it's very unique.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, I like that.
- 23:58Speaker 2: The Intercontinental Did they do one in the Santa Barbara
- 24:01Speaker 2: region just a couple of years, like within the last
- 24:04Speaker 2: ten fifteen years. I was thinking that there was one
- 24:08Speaker 2: that went up somewhere between there and North Ranch. But look,
- 24:11Speaker 2: anytime you can stay at an Intercontinental, which was the
- 24:14Speaker 2: first hotel I stayed at when I visited New York
- 24:17Speaker 2: the very very very first time, and it was Times Square.
- 24:21Speaker 2: It was the old school. It was Times Square, and
- 24:24Speaker 2: I arrived the funniest story, I arrived in the city
- 24:29Speaker 2: at about well, my flight landed at like nine thirty
- 24:32Speaker 2: at Newark, and by the time I got to the hotel,
- 24:34Speaker 2: it was like ten thirty because of traffic and cabs
- 24:37Speaker 2: and all the rest of it. And I was much
- 24:40Speaker 2: younger at the time. But I remember wandering over to
- 24:43Speaker 2: Times Square after checking in because the guy at the
- 24:45Speaker 2: desk said, yeah, there's still a couple of places still open,
- 24:47Speaker 2: you could get some food. We wandered over to Times Square,
- 24:50Speaker 2: sitting at the Sabarro, which I don't even know if
- 24:53Speaker 2: it is still there. But at two am, here come
- 24:57Speaker 2: these six hundred bicyclists right through I'm Square doing a
- 25:01Speaker 2: bike race at two in the morning, And I thought,
- 25:04Speaker 2: Manhattan has to be the coolest place on plane if
- 25:07Speaker 2: they're racing bicycles at two am. Anyway, Gina, Jenna, thank
- 25:11Speaker 2: you for all that you do. Thank you for being
- 25:13Speaker 2: with us.
- 25:14Speaker 5: Thank you so much for having us. We hope to
- 25:15Speaker 5: see you guys in Miami soon.
- 25:17Speaker 2: You guys, I'm coming back, Gina, Thank you, all right,
- 25:19Speaker 2: coming right back. She's Linda. I'm Kevin. Stay here.
- 25:26Speaker 3: What a little moonline can do.
- 25:27Speaker 1: It's Radio night Life.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Here's Kevin McCulla welcome back. It's a Radio night Live.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Traveled Tuesday. I'm Kevin McCullough and she is Linda Perillo.
- 25:37Speaker 3: HIKEV. Hey, how is your week away from Linda? What
- 25:41Speaker 3: you gave.
- 25:43Speaker 2: It wasn't just Linda, and by the way, I gave
- 25:46Speaker 2: you the chance to do a takeover for the show.
- 25:48Speaker 4: But I was good.
- 25:50Speaker 3: You know, listen, I need a break too. Even though
- 25:52Speaker 3: I had a break, I was.
- 25:53Speaker 2: In Italy and no, that's fine. Christine and Ab had
- 25:58Speaker 2: a lot of fun. On Friday. I was gone and
- 26:02Speaker 2: I want to say thank you again to all the
- 26:03Speaker 2: people that subbed on the National show. Michael Woolworth and
- 26:07Speaker 2: doctor Meghan Hobbs and patrise On Wuka and Bethany Mandel,
- 26:11Speaker 2: who I think may have won the award for funniest
- 26:14Speaker 2: fill in host. She is a stitch and so sarcastic
- 26:18Speaker 2: in how she sees and abuse things. But it was great.
- 26:22Speaker 5: You know.
- 26:22Speaker 2: One of the things my goal was to do a
- 26:24Speaker 2: couple of things on vacation. And if I sound like
- 26:27Speaker 2: I'm someone who needs a vacation, it's because I'm the
- 26:29Speaker 2: kind of guy that has a goal for while he's
- 26:31Speaker 2: on vacation, like it should be like, don't do that
- 26:34Speaker 2: at all. But one of the goals was to not
- 26:37Speaker 2: turn on Fox News or the cable news channels while
- 26:41Speaker 2: we were there, and I think successfully, my family never
- 26:45Speaker 2: turned on a hotel television except to play something back
- 26:48Speaker 2: from our Apple TV. We watched a couple of Avengers
- 26:51Speaker 2: movies and some other stuff, but there was no there
- 26:54Speaker 2: was no like getting worked up about what was going
- 26:56Speaker 2: on in the news or anything like that. And for
- 26:58Speaker 2: my family to have my attention on that level was
- 27:01Speaker 2: a real gift for the group because Daddy is much
- 27:07Speaker 2: you know, my blood pressure is much lower when I'm
- 27:09Speaker 2: not paying attention to what's going on every second of
- 27:12Speaker 2: the day, which is a good thing. But it was
- 27:15Speaker 2: wonderful and We were a little bit concerned because the
- 27:20Speaker 2: weather initially was supposed to be rainy and you know,
- 27:24Speaker 2: terrible every day that we were there, and it was
- 27:28Speaker 2: so weird because the forecast was like that for three
- 27:30Speaker 2: weeks leading up to it. We get over there and
- 27:33Speaker 2: there's actually a little bit of rain on this one
- 27:36Speaker 2: day where you had the you had this storm system
- 27:40Speaker 2: come through. I think it was kind of the aftermath
- 27:43Speaker 2: or the outer rings of some of that hurricane activity
- 27:46Speaker 2: that was going on out in the Atlantic. But it
- 27:48Speaker 2: didn't get that serious, it didn't get that hard, and
- 27:51Speaker 2: on Tuesday we survived that. But I was going to
- 27:55Speaker 2: ask you, because you're a Cape May girl, like you
- 27:57Speaker 2: like being down there, what have you done traditionally with
- 28:00Speaker 2: kids when what's supposed to be a beach vacation turns
- 28:03Speaker 2: into an indoor, even if it's on a temporary basis,
- 28:06Speaker 2: an indoor you know, time away.
- 28:08Speaker 3: I know it's you know, it's very hard. I'm just
- 28:12Speaker 3: gonna talk about the Jersey.
- 28:13Speaker 4: Shore in general, because I think a few summers down
- 28:15Speaker 4: at in Point Pleasant and I do love Kate May.
- 28:20Speaker 3: I have not spent a ton of time down there,
- 28:23Speaker 3: but I I you know, the Jersey Shore and any
- 28:26Speaker 3: beach vacation, Kevin.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Let's face it, unless you're at some magical resort, even
- 28:30Speaker 4: Disney is very difficult when it rains. Those places are
- 28:35Speaker 4: based on let's face it, good weather, right, and you
- 28:38Speaker 4: really do have to kind of, you know, search the
- 28:42Speaker 4: map for something to do. So down the Jersey Shore,
- 28:45Speaker 4: I think one of their big things is they do
- 28:47Speaker 4: have a lot of There are a lot of aquariums
- 28:49Speaker 4: that are down there. I mean from where you were,
- 28:51Speaker 4: I would have probably gone to even Wildwood, right, even
- 28:56Speaker 4: the boardwalk in a crappy day. It costs money, and
- 28:59Speaker 4: I get it, but at least there's activity for the
- 29:02Speaker 4: kids to do well.
- 29:03Speaker 2: There are some there are some comparable arcades in Cape
- 29:06Speaker 2: May and we did. We did like a couple of
- 29:07Speaker 2: hours in one arcade.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Do you know, here's the thing, what are you going
- 29:11Speaker 3: to do? It's primarily what we.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Were fortunate about was that the hotel we stayed at,
- 29:16Speaker 2: which was the Grand Grand Hotel, which I did not know,
- 29:20Speaker 2: had this whole World War two history element to its past,
- 29:23Speaker 2: which turned out to be kind of cool. But they
- 29:27Speaker 2: also have an indoor pool along with their outdoor pool,
- 29:30Speaker 2: and they're on the beach, So it's like the triple threat.
- 29:32Speaker 2: If you need to if you need to get some
- 29:34Speaker 2: swimming energy out of your system, you hit the indoor pool.
- 29:37Speaker 2: And for Dad, they had a really nice sauna our spot,
- 29:41Speaker 2: so it's like I just sit there in the hot
- 29:42Speaker 2: water and I'm happy. But fortunately that was only it
- 29:46Speaker 2: was supposed to be like all five days we were there,
- 29:48Speaker 2: and it only happened once, and the rest of the
- 29:52Speaker 2: time we were out and about, you know, all of
- 29:55Speaker 2: our favorites, the beach, Plumb Farm, the Congress Hall lawn
- 29:59Speaker 2: at cocktail hour where they're playing cornhole, and the grown
- 30:04Speaker 2: ups and we for the first time had some really
- 30:07Speaker 2: good friends who were down there simultaneous to us. So
- 30:11Speaker 2: for dinner, their kids and our kids kind of match
- 30:14Speaker 2: up age wise. Kids had their table, the grown ups
- 30:17Speaker 2: had their table. And it was kind of fun to
- 30:19Speaker 2: after a day away just doing independent family stuff, to
- 30:22Speaker 2: kind of come back together and kind of compare notes
- 30:24Speaker 2: on things. One other huge historic thing that happened that
- 30:27Speaker 2: I'm afraid I'm even admitting this on the air. It's
- 30:30Speaker 2: kind of embarrassing, but my sixteen year old who has
- 30:33Speaker 2: been trying to beat me at putting in mini golf
- 30:37Speaker 2: for probably at least four years. We played three rounds.
- 30:43Speaker 2: I beat him in the first one head to head.
- 30:46Speaker 2: He beat me in the second, first time ever, and
- 30:49Speaker 2: that set up the championship. On the last morning that
- 30:51Speaker 2: we were there, we'd already checked out of the hotel.
- 30:53Speaker 2: We could not leave until we had a grudge match
- 30:56Speaker 2: to decide who was going to be the mini golf
- 30:59Speaker 2: champion for twenty twenty six. And you have to play
- 31:02Speaker 2: if you're in, if you're in fact, if you're in
- 31:05Speaker 2: Kate May, you can play the There's two on the
- 31:10Speaker 2: beach themselves. The one closest to Congress Hall, whose name
- 31:13Speaker 2: I'm forgetting. I think it's called like Community Golf or
- 31:15Speaker 2: something like that. That one's pretty good. There's one at
- 31:18Speaker 2: the far end by what the restaurant called the Fish House,
- 31:22Speaker 2: which is a high recommend. That's really good, and it
- 31:24Speaker 2: has very difficult slopes and hills and all the holes
- 31:28Speaker 2: which make it pretty challenging. That's the one I beat
- 31:30Speaker 2: him on the first night. He beat me at the
- 31:33Speaker 2: less challenging one the second day, and so for the
- 31:36Speaker 2: third championship tee off, we played Stockton Mini Golf, which
- 31:42Speaker 2: may be the hardest course in Cape May and I
- 31:46Speaker 2: beat him by I beat him by six, so we've bit.
- 31:49Speaker 3: Of a misnomer, a hard mini golf course.
- 31:53Speaker 2: I'm sorry, can you finish most of those holes in
- 31:55Speaker 2: under five? I would like to know like we're playing
- 31:58Speaker 2: for par or better, like we're like it's a serious thing.
- 32:01Speaker 2: He and he just got introduced to mini golf just
- 32:04Speaker 2: a couple of years ago. So I can't get him.
- 32:08Speaker 2: I can't get him to go to the driving range
- 32:10Speaker 2: and hit the long clubs enough. He does like playing
- 32:14Speaker 2: full golf, but he loves he loves to putt, and
- 32:17Speaker 2: he's pretty good at it. And so if I can
- 32:19Speaker 2: just get him to hit a few off the tee,
- 32:21Speaker 2: who knows, maybe he'll support his old man someday, you know,
- 32:24Speaker 2: when he's a star on the tour.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Like channeling Scotti Scheffler.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Oh, I would, I would channel that for his life
- 32:32Speaker 2: in a heartbeat. Yes, please become Scottie Scheffler, a beautifully
- 32:36Speaker 2: nice human being, wonderful person and secondly, hugely successful at
- 32:41Speaker 2: what he does. Yes, he was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey,
- 32:47Speaker 2: didn't grow up here, but now lives in Texas, Texas.
- 32:50Speaker 3: So Sattie Scheffler.
- 32:52Speaker 4: I'm very good friends with his aunt, and Scottie went
- 32:56Speaker 4: to preschool with Devin before he left.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Did you have any clue at that time that he
- 33:01Speaker 2: was going to be into golf?
- 33:03Speaker 3: No, because then he left he went to Texas. I mean,
- 33:05Speaker 3: Devin was like, oh my god, you Knieve. I went
- 33:07Speaker 3: to preschool.
- 33:07Speaker 2: But you know Tiger. You know Tiger in preschool. His
- 33:10Speaker 2: dad got him his first you know, little putter club.
- 33:13Speaker 2: So it's like sometimes it does start that early.
- 33:15Speaker 3: We don't talk about Tiger, Okay.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Okay, anyway, poor guy, he's had a rough time. We
- 33:22Speaker 2: got some some Perillo's pointers coming up next. Don't go Anywhere.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Once again from New York. Here's Radio Night Life and
- 33:34Speaker 1: Kevin McCullough.
- 33:35Speaker 2: All right, welcome back, final few minutes of Radio Night Live,
- 33:39Speaker 2: Travel Tuesday, Linda Perillo, Kevin mccullaugh. Glad to be with you.
- 33:42Speaker 2: And normally this is Perillo's Pointers where Linda tells you
- 33:45Speaker 2: you know something that is like key, and tonight she
- 33:48Speaker 2: just wanted to talk about how to use skittles to
- 33:50Speaker 2: bribe grand babies or something like that. Yeah, I will
- 33:55Speaker 2: jump in in your stead then, because there is a
- 33:58Speaker 2: it's not a chain, it's an ownership group that has
- 34:01Speaker 2: three eateries that if you go to Cape May, you
- 34:04Speaker 2: absolutely must experience. One is called Taco kabi Eto and
- 34:08Speaker 2: it is I think, and I am a taco fiend.
- 34:14Speaker 2: I have had them in Texas. I've had them in California.
- 34:16Speaker 2: I've had them in New York. I've had them in Mexico.
- 34:20Speaker 2: I've had them in you know, Tuloom. I've had them
- 34:22Speaker 2: in San Diego. I've had them in all the places
- 34:24Speaker 2: where great tacos exist. And I will tell you that
- 34:27Speaker 2: Taco kaby Eito on the beach in Cape May are
- 34:32Speaker 2: the best tacos in the entire East Coast of the
- 34:36Speaker 2: United States. I've never had any that come anywhere even
- 34:40Speaker 2: close to as good as what they make there. So
- 34:41Speaker 2: you have to eat at Taco kabi Eto. We did
- 34:44Speaker 2: two lunches there with the course of the week and
- 34:47Speaker 2: they were just phenomenal. My kids like it because they
- 34:51Speaker 2: did a virgin pina colada and they just think that
- 34:53Speaker 2: drinking pina coladas are the coolest thing right now. Good
- 34:56Speaker 2: for them. And then they've got two sister rush staurants
- 35:00Speaker 2: that are equally notable, and one of them is called
- 35:02Speaker 2: the Fish House, and you're literally at the southernmost tip
- 35:06Speaker 2: of Cape May. To get there, you drive out of
- 35:09Speaker 2: kpe May proper. You go like you're headed to the
- 35:12Speaker 2: old World War two lookout tower, and when you get
- 35:15Speaker 2: to the beach, you just dead end and there is
- 35:18Speaker 2: the Fish House. It is owned by the same restaurant group.
- 35:22Speaker 2: And that is also where that very difficult mini golf
- 35:26Speaker 2: course is right right outside. You laugh. I just I
- 35:30Speaker 2: would love to see you play mini golf and hear
- 35:33Speaker 2: you laugh at because there are people in our group
- 35:37Speaker 2: that were pretty good, and you know, there were guys
- 35:38Speaker 2: that were like, I'm not going to just take the
- 35:40Speaker 2: normal five. I'm going to play, and you know they
- 35:42Speaker 2: were putting sevens and twelves on on holes because of
- 35:46Speaker 2: how difficult this force was.
- 35:47Speaker 4: PGA course Cape May Mini Golf.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it will be soon, it'll be on the
- 35:52Speaker 2: senior tour. So but the Fish House, I want to
- 35:56Speaker 2: I want to just compliment them. They great service, the
- 36:01Speaker 2: most perfect view for sunset at dusk if you want
- 36:05Speaker 2: to get a really beautiful picture of sunset at dusk,
- 36:08Speaker 2: and they raise their kind of external kind of they're
- 36:13Speaker 2: not really blinds, but they're they're not curtains, they're just
- 36:16Speaker 2: these kind of shades that kind of keep things cooler.
- 36:19Speaker 2: But as the sun's going down, it begins to cool down,
- 36:21Speaker 2: and so they raise them, and the pristine view of
- 36:23Speaker 2: the southern shore there is just really incredible. And then
- 36:26Speaker 2: they've got a third place that's the newest one and
- 36:28Speaker 2: this is kind of as you're coming indicate May and
- 36:31Speaker 2: it's a vibe and it's got this and it's called
- 36:35Speaker 2: Port Marina. It is just this really cool. It's got
- 36:39Speaker 2: a couple of drink areas that you can have while
- 36:41Speaker 2: you're waiting for your table. Walk ups are better than
- 36:45Speaker 2: reservations because there's so many people that want to be
- 36:48Speaker 2: there and just a lovely way we spend our last
- 36:52Speaker 2: dinner there, relaxed couch like tables that are out on
- 36:57Speaker 2: the water because the dock extends, and you just have
- 37:00Speaker 2: this really cool vibe. They've got candle lit tables at
- 37:04Speaker 2: every turn, and it just turned into a really beautiful evening.
- 37:07Speaker 2: So three Port Marina, Fish House, Tako, Kabiito, you go
- 37:11Speaker 2: to Kate may try any or all of them. I
- 37:13Speaker 2: highly recommend all of them, and I think you'll be
- 37:16Speaker 2: grateful that you did.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Great John steal me keV.
- 37:19Speaker 2: That's it for this week. Be back next week, friends,
