- 0:00Speaker 1: Who's your daddy. It's one more thing. I'm strong and gedty.
- 0:04Speaker 2: One more thing.
- 0:08Speaker 1: So I mentioned on the radio show, I wish I
- 0:11Speaker 1: had jumped on the story that was the Indiana Hoosiers
- 0:15Speaker 1: football team earlier in the year, because just crazy story
- 0:19Speaker 1: for all kinds of different reasons, with about as unlikely
- 0:25Speaker 1: a team as you could possibly imagine winning the national championship,
- 0:28Speaker 1: going undefeated last night and beating all these multimillion dollar
- 0:32Speaker 1: coaches and these storied programs and everything like that. Indiana
- 0:36Speaker 1: literally the least storied program in all of Division one football.
- 0:40Speaker 1: They have the losingest program in the history of football,
- 0:45Speaker 1: and then won it all last night. But are a
- 0:46Speaker 1: couple of things I want to mention. So first, this
- 0:49Speaker 1: Signetti guy, their coach, who was all kinds of an
- 0:53Speaker 1: interesting character. And I didn't realize this until a couple of
- 0:57Speaker 1: weeks ago, but he's famous for having no facial expressions,
- 1:00Speaker 1: just has no expression no matter what happens.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Mister Spock on the sidelines yep, it's wild.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Interception run back for a touchdown against them, no expression,
- 1:08Speaker 1: It's as if he didn't see it. And the reverse happens.
- 1:11Speaker 1: They just win the game. In the last second. It's
- 1:13Speaker 1: like he was thinking of something else. He just had
- 1:16Speaker 1: no facial expression for some reason. Odd thing to do.
- 1:19Speaker 1: But I wasn't aware of this until last night, as
- 1:21Speaker 1: reading all these different stories the New York Times, the
- 1:26Speaker 1: Washington Boast, the Wall Street Journal, everybody had these long
- 1:28Speaker 1: stories about all the different aspects of this phenomenon that
- 1:33Speaker 1: was Indiana football this year, and all the different angles
- 1:35Speaker 1: that were so interesting in one of them being this coach.
- 1:39Speaker 1: In college football for the last many years, it's been
- 1:42Speaker 1: like a handful of really high profiled, very highly compensated coaches,
- 1:48Speaker 1: and they go around from school to school and win
- 1:50Speaker 1: different championships because when they go to the school, they
- 1:52Speaker 1: can recruit all the best players. This guy that Indiana
- 1:56Speaker 1: hired was a nobody who came from nobody schools. And
- 2:00Speaker 1: that's fine. You hired him to come to a nobody's school,
- 2:03Speaker 1: So what difference does it make. But the first pep
- 2:05Speaker 1: rally they had after he got hired, just the year
- 2:07Speaker 1: before last, he said, I win, Google me, I win.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I've never taken a backseat to anybody, and I don't
- 2:14Speaker 1: plan on starting now. Purdue sucks, Michigan sucks, Ohio State
- 2:19Speaker 1: sucks and the crowd went wild and everybody was like,
- 2:23Speaker 1: what is wrong with this dude? I mean, what is
- 2:26Speaker 1: you can't come off thumping your chest when you're the
- 2:29Speaker 1: nobody head coach of a crappy football program. I mean,
- 2:32Speaker 1: what are you even talking about?
- 2:35Speaker 3: And then for whatever reason, you're sticking your neck out
- 2:37Speaker 3: for spectacularly hilarious failure.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Right, And then a combination of a talent spotting, like
- 2:46Speaker 1: picking players that everybody else overlooked. The quarterback that ended
- 2:51Speaker 1: up winning the Heisman Trophy wanted to play at Miami.
- 2:54Speaker 1: He went to high school like blocks from that stadium
- 2:57Speaker 1: last night, but they didn't want him, and nobody else
- 2:58Speaker 1: did either, you know. That's thing. And he briefly played
- 3:02Speaker 1: at Cal. So that moving on to this part of
- 3:04Speaker 1: the story, and then I'll be done with it. I
- 3:06Speaker 1: read an article in the New York Times last night.
- 3:08Speaker 1: It was how Mendoza's postgame speeches became a national meme
- 3:13Speaker 1: and it became all season long. I guess a thing
- 3:16Speaker 1: because he it's so emotional after games and says something.
- 3:21Speaker 1: What was the Let me find the one thing they
- 3:25Speaker 1: said from the article about this that I was thought
- 3:27Speaker 1: was pretty funny we'll find it. Oh. For Fernando Mendoza's
- 3:34Speaker 1: postgame interviews have drawn love and attention for their unique
- 3:37Speaker 1: delivery and perfect grammar and pros. He's aware people say
- 3:40Speaker 1: he talks like chat GPT. He promises as a real
- 3:43Speaker 1: person who doesn't script these things. Anyway. Here's one that
- 3:48Speaker 1: made him famous in the beginning. This is when he
- 3:50Speaker 1: was still playing for the cal Bears and they had
- 3:52Speaker 1: an amazing comfort behind victory and they interviewed him on
- 3:55Speaker 1: the field afterwards the start of the quarter. What did
- 4:00Speaker 1: it ten year to come back? Andy?
- 4:03Speaker 4: First of all, I wanted to give all the floor
- 4:04Speaker 4: to gone nose it made to come back and.
- 4:07Speaker 1: To touts me out, told me on the team.
- 4:09Speaker 4: I love my boys. It's amazing. I'm so proud over
- 4:12Speaker 4: of the team. We're six to six, we're bawled down
- 4:14Speaker 4: and we retain the acts. Go Bess, Friver, Let's go.
- 4:18Speaker 4: We were so emotional right now for Dano in this moment.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Let's bringing out these emotions for you. We worked so hard,
- 4:23Speaker 1: We worked so hard for this.
- 4:25Speaker 4: I'm fond never get emotional, but it's so hard leaves
- 4:28Speaker 4: as an offense, We've done everything we constly could have
- 4:31Speaker 4: done the summer to being down having a close game.
- 4:34Speaker 4: This has to be the most special moment in my
- 4:36Speaker 4: life today.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Look around with these fans in this moment.
- 4:41Speaker 1: What will you remember most from this victory today?
- 4:43Speaker 4: I remember going ninety eight yards my boys nine eight yards.
- 4:47Speaker 4: In that moment, we told them, it's why we do
- 4:48Speaker 4: the camping trip. This is why we did every Saturday
- 4:51Speaker 4: walked through, and so why we stayed until ninety I
- 4:53Speaker 4: wanted film together and so that meant so much for
- 4:55Speaker 4: me to go ninety eight yards. I get the defense.
- 4:58Speaker 4: I've been playing great and we had up scoring in
- 5:01Speaker 4: the clutch that ax, go hold that ax, the you
- 5:08Speaker 4: go bears, Let's go.
- 5:10Speaker 1: He gets that excited after every single game. He's like
- 5:13Speaker 1: half crying, half screaming, tears in his eyes, big smile
- 5:18Speaker 1: on his face. And there's like collections of these from
- 5:21Speaker 1: after games that you can find on YouTube, and so.
- 5:24Speaker 5: As I just can't believe it.
- 5:25Speaker 6: I have gone.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Just like that every single time. Wow, that's sadness. Interesting
- 5:33Speaker 1: personality and apparently the other players on the team just
- 5:35Speaker 1: absolutely love him and rally around him, and you know,
- 5:38Speaker 1: I would run through walls for him and all that
- 5:39Speaker 1: sort of thing. Well, and he keeps as cool though
- 5:42Speaker 1: in the game.
- 5:44Speaker 3: So it's an interesting combination of being able to channel
- 5:48Speaker 3: his energies.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Yeah, and then after the game seeming completely unhinged. You
- 5:51Speaker 1: wouldn't think that guy in the game in the huddle,
- 5:54Speaker 1: why did it? Oh my god? But apparently he's not
- 5:57Speaker 1: that way during the game. Okay, of course. And three,
- 6:01Speaker 1: we got it, guys, we did it. We pulled together.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Everybody did their job. Everybody did it.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Hey, hey, hey, Fernando, it's the first quarter. Okay, calm down, Yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 3: settle down. You gotta call the play. Did you, guys
- 6:14Speaker 3: see the.
- 6:14Speaker 6: Story about his dad or his parents at least at all?
- 6:18Speaker 3: I saw one mention about his mom. Was it?
- 6:20Speaker 6: So his mom was diagnosed with MS I believe, And
- 6:24Speaker 6: so she she's she sits.
- 6:26Speaker 3: For the whole game.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Okay. I wondered about that. I wondered about that.
- 6:30Speaker 6: So that's why his dad will not stand at the games,
- 6:33Speaker 6: so he can stay seated with the mom. And he
- 6:35Speaker 6: said that his dad makes a conscious effort to like
- 6:38Speaker 6: make sure that he stays seated with the mom, but
- 6:40Speaker 6: can still show the excitement and cheer along with h
- 6:43Speaker 6: I noticed.
- 6:44Speaker 3: That that dynamic during the game. I had no idea
- 6:46Speaker 3: why that's touching.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought it's gonna be interesting to see if
- 6:50Speaker 2: he's one of those people as a Heisman Trophy winner
- 6:52Speaker 2: that goes into the NFL and like, you know, really
- 6:55Speaker 2: kicks ass or just like can't even make the team
- 6:57Speaker 2: because you never can tell.
- 6:59Speaker 3: No, you don't know. I am struck though, by that
- 7:01Speaker 3: story and the sort of young man he is with
- 7:05Speaker 3: that sort of dad as opposed to you know a
- 7:09Speaker 3: lot of young men, including a lot of young football
- 7:12Speaker 3: players whose dad is not involved in their lives at all.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Yeah, there was a player from Miami last night that
- 7:18Speaker 1: and this is not a sports thing. This is a
- 7:20Speaker 1: parent who earlier cultural thing. Player from Miami who it's
- 7:25Speaker 1: the guy who's I don't know if you saw this,
- 7:27Speaker 1: but whose mom is in the stands. She goes to
- 7:29Speaker 1: every game. She's traveled thousands of miles over the last
- 7:31Speaker 1: several years to watch him, and they kept putting the
- 7:33Speaker 1: camera on her because she goes nuts when her son
- 7:35Speaker 1: makes a great play. Doesn't fly.
- 7:37Speaker 3: She drives back and forth across the country, thousands of miles.
- 7:40Speaker 1: But dad. He used to talk to dad before every
- 7:43Speaker 1: game and text with him and everything like that. But
- 7:47Speaker 1: then dad died a couple of years ago and he
- 7:49Speaker 1: still has his old cell phone and he still texts dad. Oh,
- 7:53Speaker 1: whoa before a game? I know, but I thought the
- 7:56Speaker 1: same thing though that you were just saying about Mendoza's
- 7:59Speaker 1: just like you know, mom and dad. He's got a
- 8:01Speaker 1: mom and dad. Yeah, which is a great benefit. Okay,
- 8:04Speaker 1: switching gears, Katie, you brought a sis. Can you set
- 8:07Speaker 1: it up briefly or does it need set up? The
- 8:09Speaker 1: kid with the cooking channel thinging, Oh, this kid is charming.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Uh.
- 8:13Speaker 6: He has a channel on Instagram called Cooking with Carter
- 8:16Speaker 6: and he's I think he's three or four years old.
- 8:19Speaker 6: He's a brit and he goes.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Tell you what, your kid doesn't have his own Instagram
- 8:23Speaker 3: hit by age six, he's washed up. He's get rid
- 8:26Speaker 3: of him. He's no good getting rid of him. Wow.
- 8:31Speaker 6: He goes through and he makes different, uh, different recipes
- 8:34Speaker 6: every day.
- 8:34Speaker 1: And today he was making butta. Okay, we're gonna make
- 8:40Speaker 1: some butter.
- 8:42Speaker 5: It's our first time naking butter. It might be a disaster.
- 8:47Speaker 5: Oh we've got today is put this double cream into
- 8:52Speaker 5: the mixer.
- 8:57Speaker 1: He's take your agent.
- 9:01Speaker 5: It's done. It's tune into butter. He got to squeeze
- 9:05Speaker 5: over the butter Milku. Look at all the buttermilk. Now
- 9:09Speaker 5: to put it into the water to clean it. Now,
- 9:11Speaker 5: I'm gonna put some salting to make it nice.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Look at that.
- 9:16Speaker 5: Look how easy it was to make butter.
- 9:19Speaker 1: How old is the kid?
- 9:20Speaker 6: I think he's like three or four. He's just a
- 9:22Speaker 6: tiny little guy.
- 9:24Speaker 3: You got to get him together with the Corn kid.
- 9:26Speaker 3: I mean, that's make it.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Do a radio show together.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Oh please, this kid and Corn in the morning.
- 9:32Speaker 1: So he's three or four, become a big giant YouTube phenomenon.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Gonna make a lot of money by the time he's sick.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I'll have a drug habit. I'll have a baby with
- 9:39Speaker 1: a couple of strippers.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Wow, way to make a couple of strippers? How does
- 9:42Speaker 3: that work? Dark a couple of babies.
- 9:49Speaker 6: He has one point seven million followers on Instagram alone.
- 9:53Speaker 3: And he's gonna go Hunter Biden not make his child.
- 9:57Speaker 1: God, this is supposed to be a sweet co for
- 10:00Speaker 1: the show. I said, charming sweet clip. Yes, the kid
- 10:04Speaker 1: that sounds cute and charming and thing like that. I
- 10:07Speaker 1: absolutely if I, if I, if I knew I could
- 10:10Speaker 1: get the result of having two million followers for my kids,
- 10:14Speaker 1: I still would say no, I do not want that.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I just I just don't see that as being a
- 10:19Speaker 1: positive thing eventually. But depends on how the parents handle it.
- 10:22Speaker 3: I suppose it's it's a dangerous road.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Yeah, say that.
- 10:26Speaker 3: I do enjoy butter.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Though, so take ages.
- 10:36Speaker 3: That's charming.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Well, I guess that's it. Won't be making his child
- 10:41Speaker 1: support payments.
