- 1:21Speaker 5: What's up, Leggy.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Doing good?
- 1:25Speaker 4: I'm I'm so pumped for this weekend for a multitude
- 1:27Speaker 4: of reasons. You got to see Nebraska game tomorrow, but
- 1:29Speaker 4: you got the opener of the season for the Broncos
- 1:32Speaker 4: and the debut of bow Nicks just before we get
- 1:35Speaker 4: to the actual game. Do you remember the good old
- 1:38Speaker 4: days when Patzertan was the highest paid cornerback in the
- 1:40Speaker 4: league and how fun that was. That's that's now done.
- 1:44Speaker 4: But for him to get twenty four million dollars and
- 1:46Speaker 4: basically reset in a big way the cornerback market. They
- 1:50Speaker 4: think that this guy's not not a flash in the pan, obviously.
- 1:54Speaker 4: They think he's a guy who could be like a
- 1:55Speaker 4: Champ Bailey ten year starter, Hall of Fame type player.
- 1:58Speaker 6: Correct, Yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, it's always tough
- 2:02Speaker 6: to say Hall of Fame type player just for me,
- 2:04Speaker 6: you haven't been around the process. But he's you know,
- 2:08Speaker 6: he's the best player on the team. He absolutely if
- 2:12Speaker 6: you're at a personnel executive, I mean, what exactly is
- 2:16Speaker 6: the risk factor for signing Pat? Certain he works his
- 2:21Speaker 6: butt off, He plays his position better than anyone else
- 2:25Speaker 6: in the league, and he's the rarest of athletes at
- 2:30Speaker 6: the position in terms of size and speed and the
- 2:33Speaker 6: rest of it. So you know, George Peyton the GM
- 2:37Speaker 6: called it a no brainer like a year ago, and
- 2:41Speaker 6: that's still the case. And I do think it is
- 2:44Speaker 6: intriguing that this is a true extension. This doesn't really
- 2:48Speaker 6: kick in in terms of the salary cap until twenty
- 2:53Speaker 6: twenty six, so certain did them a favor, you know
- 2:57Speaker 6: a little bit, and they made him the highest paid
- 3:00Speaker 6: quarterer briefly, but you know, they did their part two.
- 3:04Speaker 6: So I think it shows he wanted to stay and
- 3:07Speaker 6: they very much wanted to keep him.
- 3:10Speaker 5: Hell, Jalen Ramsey, who's now the highest paid, he had
- 3:12Speaker 5: two years left on his deal. So it's proven around
- 3:15Speaker 5: the league. If they like you in your quality, they're
- 3:17Speaker 5: going to sign you at any point in your contract.
- 3:20Speaker 5: It doesn't really matter. Any surprises, Jeff. When they announced
- 3:23Speaker 5: the captains, any one of those captains surprised you, was
- 3:26Speaker 5: Bo Nicks a surprise in your brain?
- 3:28Speaker 6: Well, just because he's a rookie. But you know, in
- 3:30Speaker 6: my experience, I don't think I've ever seen the quarterback
- 3:34Speaker 6: not be the captain. But it's just rare here certainly
- 3:39Speaker 6: to have a rookie starter. You know. In the opener,
- 3:42Speaker 6: since it hasn't happened since Lway, so we just haven't
- 3:47Speaker 6: seen it here. But it would stun me if the
- 3:50Speaker 6: quarterback wasn't the captain in any scenario, no matter who voted, coaches, players,
- 3:56Speaker 6: or you know, however the ballot bots got talented. I mean,
- 4:00Speaker 6: always look at some of the long standing guys in Wonder,
- 4:03Speaker 6: you know, you know, Quinn Minors over Garrett Bowles and
- 4:07Speaker 6: that type of thing. But captains are a funky thing,
- 4:11Speaker 6: you know. I think Von Miller wasn't a captain until
- 4:14Speaker 6: like this fifth or sixth year, and and Chris Harris
- 4:17Speaker 6: Junior was never a captain. Uh So it's just it's
- 4:21Speaker 6: an odd thing, you know, kind of how how it
- 4:24Speaker 6: all shakes out.
- 4:26Speaker 3: I was listening to Tyler and d Mack talk about
- 4:28Speaker 3: it yesterday. I don't know if there's ballad box stuffing
- 4:31Speaker 3: going on or whatever. It doesn't. It doesn't really affect
- 4:34Speaker 3: me at all, Jeff, But why do you have six?
- 4:36Speaker 3: What's the point of six captains on a football team?
- 4:39Speaker 6: Dilted well, dow motion, really you're really diving in today. No,
- 4:44Speaker 6: they've always had even back in Shanny's days, they would
- 4:48Speaker 6: have five, five or sometimes six. But it's pretty common,
- 4:52Speaker 6: you know, two on offense, two on defense, and one
- 4:56Speaker 6: on special teams. The team.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Yeah, freaking they always have a special teams captain. Most
- 5:02Speaker 4: you're surprised by this.
- 5:04Speaker 3: It's usually yeah, but it's it's Uh, it's usually it's
- 5:07Speaker 3: Keith Burns. That's my special teams captain.
- 5:10Speaker 6: I got it. I got it. You know you want
- 5:12Speaker 6: to see in the two a's, I got it.
- 5:15Speaker 5: But finally, like hockey, it's wrong.
- 5:21Speaker 2: That's just the way it is.
- 5:23Speaker 5: If it doesn't have a I got the term to it,
- 5:25Speaker 5: it's wrong.
- 5:27Speaker 6: You know you want to see in the two a's.
- 5:29Speaker 6: I completely understand. We'll still give you a hug. That's fine.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Uh, Jeff to the game this weekend. I think we
- 5:38Speaker 4: know the reasons why the Broncos could lose. It's a
- 5:40Speaker 4: rookie quarterback going on the road in a tough place
- 5:42Speaker 4: to play. Uh, it's it's a good receiving core for
- 5:46Speaker 4: the Seahawks versus a pretty unproven secondary for the Broncos.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Give me a reason they'll win this weekend.
- 5:52Speaker 6: Uh. You know they're good enough on parts of their defense.
- 5:57Speaker 3: We know.
- 5:58Speaker 6: I think they're good enough to play good defense if
- 6:01Speaker 6: they if they have to end. I guess if they
- 6:06Speaker 6: will commit to running the ball, and I'm still not
- 6:09Speaker 6: convinced they will, but if they will, they could win certainly.
- 6:13Speaker 5: Do you think Riley Moss would be able to hold
- 6:15Speaker 5: on to that position opposite pets Ortanna? Might we see
- 6:19Speaker 5: a revolving door there.
- 6:21Speaker 6: Nick, I I think as it stands right now, unless
- 6:25Speaker 6: he you know, has a you know, sort of a
- 6:27Speaker 6: Demari mathis struggle like last year with mathis that he
- 6:32Speaker 6: stays put because athletically he's the easy pick. You know,
- 6:38Speaker 6: you're talking size, speed, explosiveness. I mean, the guy is
- 6:42Speaker 6: the guy is a top tier athlete at the position,
- 6:45Speaker 6: so you want that on the field and between him
- 6:48Speaker 6: and certain it gives them two of the biggest corners
- 6:51Speaker 6: in the league, which is a you know, that is
- 6:54Speaker 6: a luxury any team would like. And you know they're
- 6:58Speaker 6: good at nickel with with Jakwon McMillan. What I think
- 7:02Speaker 6: we'll see is I think they'll be more willing to
- 7:05Speaker 6: sort of move McMillan and Moss around to try and
- 7:10Speaker 6: get the ball to certain more. I think we will
- 7:14Speaker 6: see some of that, uh as things move forward, just
- 7:19Speaker 6: a more willingness to to move a couple of the
- 7:22Speaker 6: pieces around because I think McMillan's a pretty versatile player.
- 7:26Speaker 6: He can play obviously in the in the nickel slot position,
- 7:30Speaker 6: but I think in certain scenarios he'd be very good
- 7:34Speaker 6: on the outside too. And that gives you, It gives you,
- 7:37Speaker 6: you know, some ways to get quarterbacks, you know, to
- 7:42Speaker 6: go to the one on one sometimes which is going
- 7:44Speaker 6: to be certain, which is they avoid all the time,
- 7:47Speaker 6: and Banch Joseph said that people as the coordinator said,
- 7:50Speaker 6: he wanted, you know, is his responsibility to find a
- 7:54Speaker 6: way to force quarterbacks to have to go to where
- 7:58Speaker 6: they don't want to.
- 7:59Speaker 3: I said this earlier in the program. This is my
- 8:02Speaker 3: formula to get a dub. You know, a tough place
- 8:05Speaker 3: to play, we all know that, but you've got to
- 8:07Speaker 3: control the ball. Zero turnovers, eat up clock, time of possession,
- 8:11Speaker 3: and you need to force at least two. You do that,
- 8:14Speaker 3: I think you win the football game. Does that sound fair?
- 8:18Speaker 6: Always turnovers is the undefeated analytics. You know, we go
- 8:23Speaker 6: looking for analytics that will always be the biggest one,
- 8:27Speaker 6: you know, in any any week. But I think it's
- 8:31Speaker 6: really important this. Mike McDonald is known throughout football for
- 8:37Speaker 6: you know, I know defensive coaches who've gone and studied
- 8:40Speaker 6: him for his pressure packages because he's so creative and
- 8:45Speaker 6: so willing to do anything in the past rush pressure.
- 8:50Speaker 6: The Broncos simply cannot have bow knicks at the line
- 8:54Speaker 6: of scrimmage trying to figure out what he's looking at.
- 8:57Speaker 6: They just got to get the ball out of his
- 8:59Speaker 6: hand as quickly as possible. And if that means they
- 9:02Speaker 6: don't throw a pass past nine yards, they need to
- 9:06Speaker 6: do that, and they need to run the ball behind
- 9:09Speaker 6: him and then you get a couple of turnovers. I
- 9:12Speaker 6: think they have a good shot, but I think what
- 9:14Speaker 6: rookie quarterbacks are like three and fifteen there you know
- 9:17Speaker 6: all time if those stats matter to you, but I don't.
- 9:22Speaker 6: This is not the week to say, Okay, bo Nicks
- 9:25Speaker 6: is ready for the NFL, and they get all greedy
- 9:29Speaker 6: and have him stand there and try and decipher things
- 9:33Speaker 6: pre snap. They need to make it a quick hit
- 9:38Speaker 6: game plan, get the ball out of his hands and
- 9:41Speaker 6: protect him with the play calls. You know, just Jeff,
- 9:46Speaker 6: that's what I think they need to do.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Mike, you just said Mike McDonald is this genius blitzer
- 9:52Speaker 5: and he drums up all these great blitz schemes and
- 9:55Speaker 5: Mike God, how far can you take this? I mean,
- 9:58Speaker 5: it's like reinventing the wheel. What's so special about his
- 10:02Speaker 5: blitz schemes? Just send more guys from different areas. What's
- 10:05Speaker 5: the big deal here?
- 10:08Speaker 6: Well, I think from a you know, I only get
- 10:10Speaker 6: too deep in the weeds. But what he does what
- 10:13Speaker 6: a lot of guys don't do, is all eleven guys
- 10:16Speaker 6: in the formation know everyone's everyone else's responsibility in the
- 10:23Speaker 6: blitz package, So he can line a corner up and
- 10:27Speaker 6: that the player is a corner, but he's lined up
- 10:30Speaker 6: as the weak side linebacker. And if you're not prepared
- 10:33Speaker 6: for that as a quarterback. As they jumble, you know,
- 10:38Speaker 6: they don't line up in a very tidy formation. He
- 10:41Speaker 6: is moving and jumbling things up, and all eleven of
- 10:45Speaker 6: those guys know everyone else's responsibility, so he can line
- 10:50Speaker 6: up the defensive end after the snap can be the
- 10:54Speaker 6: strong side linebacker. And you've got no way of knowing
- 10:57Speaker 6: that as a quarterback unless you are just you know,
- 11:02Speaker 6: have seen it a lot and understand where the disguises
- 11:05Speaker 6: are coming from. That's why I think it's just, you know,
- 11:09Speaker 6: I know they want bon Knicks, to do a lot
- 11:11Speaker 6: of things in this offense. I just personally don't think
- 11:14Speaker 6: this is the week to do that legy.
- 11:17Speaker 4: At the risk of you calling me stupid, I'm gonna
- 11:19Speaker 4: ask this question anyway. What's preferable a fourteen to thirteen
- 11:23Speaker 4: win in which Bonnicks throws three picks or a thirty
- 11:25Speaker 4: four to thirty one loss in which he throws four touchdowns.
- 11:29Speaker 6: Well, I you know, I've always said here, I have
- 11:32Speaker 6: friends for huge football fans. They would much rather lose
- 11:37Speaker 6: a thirty one to thirty than win ten to nine,
- 11:39Speaker 6: and I tease him about it all the time.
- 11:41Speaker 4: But this is just strictly for confidence in bon Nicks
- 11:45Speaker 4: as your QB. That's kind of what I'm asking.
- 11:46Speaker 6: Well, yeah, I guess. I mean, you know, I think
- 11:50Speaker 6: you certainly the win is the ultimate confidence because you
- 11:54Speaker 6: could always go to him and say, hey, dude, don't
- 11:58Speaker 6: worry about it. You know you won the game. And
- 12:02Speaker 6: I think that's the ultimate confidence. You don't want the
- 12:06Speaker 6: double damp, which is a tough day and a loss,
- 12:09Speaker 6: because you know that's just not the way you want
- 12:11Speaker 6: to open up.
- 12:13Speaker 4: I think Tim Tebow might have something to say about, Hey, dude,
- 12:15Speaker 4: it's Okay, you got the win.
- 12:18Speaker 6: Oh yeah. Always always remember Kansas City. That was a
- 12:22Speaker 6: special beery.
