- Kiki George: What happens when your quest to live out your twilight fantasies is less twilight but more terrifying and treacherous? This is the Minor Mischief Podcast, and this is the jarring case of Jasmine Richardson. Welcome back and welcome again to the Mind of Mischief Podcast. I'm your host and homegirl for the time being, Mrs. Kiana Amir, and thank you for hanging out with me. So, did you guys like the new theme song? Did you like the new theme music? I mentioned Sabah's, but I was just like, Hey, did you like my new theme music? He was just like, are you in season two? Because he's a big anime fan. So to him, it's like this is my season two music. But I hope you like it. Let me know what you think or if it needs to be changed. Seriously. So remember back in the day when the Twilight movies were popular, us girls were obsessed with vampires and werewolves. I at that time was Team Jacob, not for any other reason than the fact that Edward was just too pasty for me. Like he just was not attracted to me. He was too frail and I just mm-mm. Can't be with a man that can't enjoy margaritas on the beach. It won't work for me. But also I feel like Jacob probably smells like a wet dog after a shower. So it's a on both, but that's not why we're here. So let's get into today's story, shall we? We shall. Everyone collectively say, we shall. So for today's story, we are packing up and leaving the US momentarily, even though I feel like some of us wish we could just leave forever. And we're heading over to Alberta, Canada. Florida, California. You're off the hook this week. I'll likely see you next week. Alberta, Canada is. AKA the energy province is known for possessing the world's third largest oil reserves, right behind Venezuela and Saudi Arabia. And it just so happens to drive the nation's petroleum industry. And my question to you is can we put either of these things in our cars? If so, are y'all interested in providing your girl and a few listeners with some free gas? No? Worth a try. Alberta also hosts beautiful glacial lakes and gorgeous parks. So it may be someplace that like avid outdoors men like to visit, you know, people who like to trail or bike or hike or I don't know what people do outside. I am a brunched and margarita girl. Like I I've been hiking months. I enjoyed it, have not been back. That was over three years ago. Now the family lived in Medicine Hat, Alberta, which is their city and state. So it's kinda like saying Atlanta, Georgia, USA. They lived in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. Medicine Hat, aka Gas City is located in the southeastern Alberta region along the Saskatchewan River, and it holds a population of about 64,000 residents according to the 2021 census. Quick disclaimer. These Canadian names have been tearing me up. So I am liable and highly likely to mispronounce a bunch of stuff during this episode. Please charge it to my head, not my heart. I'm just having a really hard time. But that's my disclaimer. Pick at me in the comments if you want to. These names are tearing me up. Now in Medicine Hat, we are introduced to Miss Jasmine Richardson, who's our mischief maker, her boyfriend, quote unquote, Jeremy Steinkey. We'll get into why he's quote unquote later. And Mark, Deborah, and Jacob Richardson, who are the stars of our show, but also unfortunately our victims. Jean Mark Richardson was born in 1964 to his parents, Arthur and Jeannie Richardson. Jean-Marc, he just went by Mark and he was originally from Sudbury. I am not sure where that is in relation to Alberta, but you know, it is what it is. But so Jean Mark was from Sudbury. And you know, I'm not sure what his like younger years were like. I'm not sure what his high school years were like. I'm not sure what his career was. But over time he developed like a little substance abuse issue. And so he wakes up one day and he's just like, you know what? I really gotta get my life together. I have to change. I can't live like this anymore. And so he signs up for a recovery program that met in a nearby gym in Sudbury. Now, all work, all things work together for the good of those. Because Deborah, who was six years older than Mark, so she would have been born in or around 1958. And at a similar time, she's at her place of residence or at wherever she's at. And she's just like, I can't do this anymore. Like, I really need to change my life. It's really about damn time I got my life together. And she too signed up for the recovery program at the Sudbury Gym. So the two are attending these classes. And while the substance or substances that they were recovering from are not publicly reported, they both took their recovery journey very seriously. So one day, you know, they're they're On this program, they're doing what they're supposed to do. They're both doing good, staying on the wagon. And Mark looks up and he's just like, has has she always been here? Like, who is this recovery baddie? And Deborah's just like, this is me, baby. And so they start dating and they fall in love. And things in recovery move as at the speed of recovery. And so a year later, they get married. And one thing that anyone in recovery will tell you is that picking a partner is the most important thing that you can do. I believe it's one of the most important things that you could do in life, but definitely on the road to recovery, picking your partner is very important because they have to be a hundred and fifty percent down with the program. So for instance, God forbid, right? I ever dated someone that was a recovering alcoholic. I could not drink alcohol. I can't have it in the house. I can't be around it. Why? Because that is a trigger for my partner. And so it's very important that you guys are on the same page, that you have very similar values, very similar beliefs, because anything can derail someone that is living a life in recovery. So one year after they started dating, like I mentioned, they turned the heat up on their relationship, they tied the knot. And then shortly after tying the knot, as fate would have it, they welcomed their first child, their prize and baby girl, Jasmine. Jasmine Nicole Richardson was born in Ontario, or is it Ontario? She was born in Ontario, Canada, on October twenty first, nineteen ninety-three. And she was described as a straight A student, a real social butterfly. She was a lover of the art. She loved performing arts, fine arts, music, theater, you name it, art. That was her thing. She was a social butterfly who made friends very easily and had a very active social life. Like she loved to hang out. She was Described as your typical kid, you know, and she was a typical nineties, 2000s kid. Like she was lit. Baby girl was lit. Five years after Jasmine was born, Mark and Deborah added to their family again, and they had a baby boy and they named him Tyler. But he, like his father, went by their second name, which his second name is Jacob. So now they have completed their family in four. Mark and Deborah, they continue to maintain their sobriety, but life was not always easy for them. You see, the thing that a lot of people do not realize is that You have to build your life back brick by brick. Addiction takes so much out of a person. And obviously this is not everyone's story, but for people who had like serious substance abuse issues, you have to build your life back brick by brick. You have to build up financially because a lot of people with substance abuse issues have a hard time keeping a job. You know? And so it's just like especially if you're on like harder stuff, it's like you You're trying to live life right, you get a job. You get a job, you have more money. You have more money, you want to buy drugs. You buy drugs, you lose your job. You know what I'm saying? It just it's one of those things. And so they're rebuilding their life brick by brick. You know, he's trying to maintain a a stable job. Deborah's trying to maintain a stable job. They're building themselves up financially. And so, you know, in Jasmine's formative years, in her early years, they didn't have a lot of money and they were pretty much poor. They lived in this very old kind of run downtown home. They often didn't have money for food, so they would, you know, get their stuff from the food bank. And sometimes, you know, clothing. You'd have to get secondhand clothing or thrift store clothing. But they were happy, even though they wanted better for themselves. And better did come. In 2005, Mark got a great promotion from h his employer. He had been actively recovered for over a decade. And so finally they're able to get themselves together f financially and they purchased this beautiful home in Medicine Hat. And along with the beautiful home in Medicine Hat, they purchased a good internet plan for the home in Medicine Hat. Because those of you know, the dial up babies know. Okay, when that high speed started coming out, we were chomping at the bit because why does this thing keep getting knocked off the internet? So now it's summer 2005, and 2005 was sincerely a great time to be alive. My space was, I mean, my space was it. And it had all of us learning how to code and it had us ranking our friends from best to worst. And if I knew then what I know now, my top five would have been totally different. But this is not my story. We belong together by Mariah Carey was wearing our ears out. We were using illegal programs like Limewire. I think Napster was one of them, or Rhapsody. I can't remember, but Limewire was my guy. Okay. We were downloading all these illegal songs. Onto our mixed CDs or our iPods, I did both. Danity Kane was hot. I lived, loved their debut album. I know no Diddy, but Making the Band Danity Kane. Matter of fact, making the band season one. I liked all the making the bands, honestly. I might have to go back. No, I'm not. I can't. I can't. But they were all good. Anyways, you see, in 2005, when the satanic panic was technically over. Goth culture was sweeping into schools. It was sweeping into the internet or sweeping into TV. and because of the rise of the internet, as we can see present day, people were starting to realize that they were not alone in their interests. So, like for instance, chatrooms and and beginner social platforms made it easy to connect with people from across the globe. Like how many of us remember ASL? what was it called? A AOL Messenger, Black Planet, like we were talking to people from We didn't even know them. You know what I'm saying? I definitely had a catfish page. We're gonna get into that later. But you know, it made it easier for people to talk to each other. So for instance, if there's a girl and she loves vintage laced white skirts, she can go on the internet and be like, Hey, is there anyone else that likes vintage laced white skirts? I'm obsessed. And they start talking. And so they move in to Medicine Hat and Jasmine, you know, she's having to make new friends. She's having to get to know new people and she had been this social butterfly. So now she's in this space in her life where it's just like, I don't have any friends. And so she takes to the internet. And because of the time, you know, we're seeing a rise in non-traditional dress stores, hot topic Spencer's. I mean, they were always there, but back then is when they really started selling like clothes and, you know, all these things. I remember wanting a bicycle bracelet from Spencer's and I had to beg my mom to let me go into that store because she absolutely my mom is Catholic. She was like, the devil is a liar. Okay, you are not about to be wearing spikes and chains. I should go apologize because I'm going through the same thing with my daughter now. So around this time, Jasmine's on the internet, she's spending more and more time on the computer, and her parents begin noticing a change in her. She still loves to hang at the mall with her friends, but her choices in clothing, music and art were starting to take a darker turn. Gone were the floral dresses, the butterfly clips and the pink lip gloss, and they entered this era of like dark lipstick. She was dying her hair. I didn't really see any weird colors. The only time I saw her hair was like black or she had like these blonde tips or whatever. but she just started dressing differently, wearing more black, ripped denim, wearing more concert t shirts, things like that. And more concerning, like I said, was the amount of time Jasmine was spending on the computer. She became immersed into the online world of goth culture, serial killers, and true crime. We're not gonna talk about true crime too much. Don't don't do true crime like that. But her online presence changed from this average preteen girl who's into boy bands and pink flowers and my little pony and stuff to kinky S H I T like Jeffrey Darmerlore, because she said that he was his he was her. He was her, what's the word I'm looking for? It's going to drive me crazy. She said Jeffrey Dahmer was her hero. Thank you. Well, the more time Jasmine spent online, the more immersed in this world she became, the less squeaky clean her image, her grades, and her reputation became, and the higher her parents' concern for her grew. Jasmine was becoming more rebellious, more withdrawn, more my day was fine, Mom. I don't need to talk about it. Instead of like having these long conversations with her mom. She traded sleepovers with her age appropriate friends and she started lying about her age online to make newer, more interesting to her friends. The once squeaky, clean preteen defined she began defining the dress code at her school. And in her online profile, she was listed as being an older, bisexual, wicked woman whose interests included drinking, scarification, which I guess is a fancy term for cutting yourself, and serial killers. And even though Jasmine started getting into a fair amount of trouble. No one is in trouble 365 days a year. So there were on occasion she was still able to go to the mall and hang out. And this is where she met Jeremy Steinkey. Jeremy Alan Steinkey was born on January 15th, 1983, to his mother Jacqueline May. Now I'm not too sure if Jeremy had any siblings. It does not appear that he did, but he was raised by his mother and a few of her partners. Jeremy's mother suffered from a pretty serious case of alcohol abuse and had an affinity to choose abusive partners. One of them being Jeremy's biological father, whose name was not in any of the reports that I read. The abuse of Jackie's partners was not focused solely on Jackie. They abused Jeremy constantly as well, with one of the most notable instances of abuse when her third husband shoved Jeremy's head in the deep freezer. Now there were conflicting reports on this one. Some reports say that he shoved his head in the freezer, others say that he locked Jeremy in a deep freezer. Other reports said it was a walk-in freezer. Regardless, some part of Jeremy's body made it into that freezer, unable to get out, and his stepfather was the one that put it there. Either way, is he still living so we can discuss this properly. Now had this story been about Jeremy unaliving his mom's third husband, it still would not have been right, but I sure would have understood and I would have been protesting for his release. But that's not why we're here. Jeremy did not just sit there and take the abuse though. As time went on and he got older, he began fighting back. And one of the most notable altercations he had with one of his mom's abusive ex-boyfriends, Jeremy bust that man's arm wide open with a pipe. He was fed up. You hear me? Done with the abuse. Life was very unstable for Jackie and Jeremy, and they moved around constantly during his adolescent years, trying to start over and place some distance between them and his mother's violent exes. Because of Jeremy's childhood, the constant mu moving, the inability to vibe with anyone on a deeper level, he had a hard time making friends and absolutely no one he can relate to. So, you know, they're moving. He I think they said he went to six different elementary schools. He like they just lacked stability. And he was bullied and picked on with several of his peers calling him Jeremy Stinky as a play on his last name. And y'all should be ashamed. Jeremy, of No Shock to Anyone, was diagnosed with ADHD. And I don't know that they're I don't know that they're related, but I do wonder if there's any correlation or any known link between childhood trauma and ADHD. The reason being is I feel like when I've reported on some of these cases, especially the boys, there seems to usually be some kind of developmental diagnosis. But I also take that with a grain of salt because all kinds of things pop up when you're standing trial. Like, all of a sudden, like, yeah, I remember one time in third grade I saw a dog get killed, and that really triggered me. You know, like things all these things come up during trial, so I don't know. But I'm just curious. Jeremy was placed into an IEP for developmental disability, and the bullying and feeling further and further away from his peers started affecting him mentally and emotionally. So to cope, Jeremy began doing what he doing what he was taught. He began drinking heavily and experimenting with drugs. Specifically with mushrooms, LSD, acid, marijuana. And eventually he got into scarification as well. By the time Jeremy turned sixteen, eventually he got tired of the shenanigans at his mother's house and he decided to move in with his father. Spoiler alert, things were not great there either, because his father is one of his mother's violent exes. And so he left his father's house and found himself out into the big wide world on his own at the age of sixteen. For a while there, Jeremy really seemed focused on just making a life for himself. He wanted different. He wanted to live a normal, stable life. So he's out on his own. He starts picking up odd jobs here and there. And he enrolls himself at the local college because he had dropped out of high school at some point prior to our main story. But he was like, you know what? I'm just gonna finish up these classes through the college and really just make something of myself. By this time Jeremy too is online making friends, taking the world by storm, and he immerses himself into goth culture as well trying to get in where he fit him. By this time he had developed a very interesting persona. I'm not sure if he believed this with his heart or if he was just really good at making things up and acting. But Jeremy took on the persona of a 300 year old werewolf complete with a vial of blood that he wore around his neck. And I have one question for you, Jeremy. Whose blood was that? And where did you get it from? In his late teen years in his early twenties, Jeremy continued to struggle socially and he turned to spending much of his time with his online community, especially on one of his favorite sites, Vampirefreaks.com, where he shared interesting tidbits about himself, like his desire to kill prostitutes and play with their insides before eating them. He mentioned his love for his fellow Lycan brothers, which I guess is a werewolf set, and his disdain for niggas and pigs. And I beg your finest pardon, Jeremy. Jeremy began listening to heavy metal music and fully embraced the lifestyle wearing makeup, the you know, black nail polish. You know, we all know what gothic people look like. And he began to aspire to become a heavy metal artist himself. Jeremy, much like our friend Jasmine, spent his spare time at the local mall where he befriended younger friends because, well, they were easy to attract. He would buy them some alcohol, give them some drugs, and they were his besties. And apparently one of them was allegedly Jasmine's really good friend whose name in the reports was Kaylee. That probably is not her real name. So now it's January 2006, and I'm sure because it's Canada, it's freezing, and I could never. And Jeremy's at the mall probably looking for new black t-shirts to pair with his new but dirty-looking jeans. And Jasmine's at the mall probably looking for her some new black t-shirts, maybe a cute little studded belt. Black skirt shorter than her pinky toe, and the two cross paths via Kaylee. Well, according to the book Runaway Devil. Other sources say they met online, other sources said they met at a concert, but the book Runaway Devil, which was named Runaway Devil because that was Jasmine's screen name on vampirefreaks.com, they said they met at the mall through Kaylee. So we're gonna go with that. Regardless, they meet. He's feeling her hair, her makeup. He's feeling that she's feeling the fact that he's a werewolf with the real amulet. Now, according to Jeremy, Jasmine lied about her age and told him that she was legal. But according to some of Jeremy's acquaintances, that is a lie. And he knew her real age when their relationship began. Jasmine was 12 and Jeremy was twenty-three years old. What have we learned from last week to this week, friends? Because we're not about to keep doing this. We just not. It does not end well. There is no world where you can be and if there is, let me know. But there is no world that you could be 14 dating a 24 year old man or 16 dating a 26 year old and think that's the person you're gonna grow old with. He's a pedophile. And when you get older, he's gonna find somebody else young. Just saying. Anyways, so Jackie and Jeremy exchange contact information. They're chatting back and forth for about a month and they begin their relationship in secret. Well. What's done in the dark always comes to light. So of course, Mark and Deborah found out about their relationship, and of course they forbade Jasmine from continuing to see Jeremy. And like any other preteen girl, she just got more crafty. Sneaking out to go to concerts with Jeremy, sneaking out to meet him at their favorite hangout. She was twelve. I'm like, girl, where are you getting all of this groundwork from? How are you sneaking out? Look like I need to know because I have a twelve-year-old, you know? And the more they got caught, the more her parents tightened the ropes on her. The deeper into the relationship Jasmine got, and the more angry she became at her parents for forbidding her to be with her one true love. It got to the point where Mark and Deborah were like, if you're gonna leave this house, young lady, you will have Jacob attached to you. And so it began. Whenever Jasmine was alone, Jacob would be right there. But you cannot keep a girl down because whenever she would be left alone with Jacob. That is exactly where Jacob would be left alone and she would just ditch him and spend time with Jeremy and the cycle would continue. She would be sneaky, she would get caught, new rules would be imposed, she would find a better way to get sneaky, she would get caught, new rules would be imposed, she kept losing stuff, and on and on and on it went. To the point where eventually Jasmine was even banned from using all electronic devices. Like Mark and Deborah were like, you know what, girl Enough is enough. Like I think at this point we have had enough and you have done enough. So you get nothing. However, if you thought that stripping Jasmine of all communication was going to keep her from her man, her man, her baby, her baby, you had another thing coming. And Jasmine just became more crafty, asking her parents to please, please, please take her to a rock concert where she slipped away to use the restroom. And her parents found her in a back alley making out with Jeremy. And at that point, they had enough. By early 2006, Jasmine became more angry, more withdrawn, more resentful, more out of touch with the fact that she is still very much a 12 year old girl. Her anger grew so much that she began to lash out at Jacob. He reportedly told close friends that he was afraid to be alone with Jasmine and that he did not feel safe in her care. Even Jeremy went on to say that he had witnessed Jasmine strangling Jacob on occasion. Now, I'm gonna take that with a grain of salt. And the only reason why is I'm not saying siblings be strangling each other, but I'm just saying there are a few times where I knew I had to get my daughter out of the way before my son pounced on her, and vice versa. If they were strangling each other though, I'd be very concerned. But I'm just saying, like, define strangle. I'm just my older sister tried to Take my brother out of here with a pillow. So I mean it'd be like that sometimes. It's not funny, but when I read that and they were just like, Yeah, he caught her strangling him. And I'm like, What did Jacob do? Y'all know how little brothers can be. I'm not saying strangle your siblings. I'm not I'm just saying I don't have any younger siblings. I am the younger sibling. And I feel like I should have been strangled. That's all. But no, Jacob was seriously afraid of Jasmine though. Just saying. Jasmine was very vocal to Jeremy. And I did not see this in my research, but I feel like it's safe to say that everyone that knew Jasmine knew about her relationship, the path she was headed down, and just when everyone thought they had it figured out, plot twist. So on or around March twentieth, two thousand six, Jasmine and Jeremy are chatting online as they do, and Jasmine confides in Jeremy. And she's just like But like, honey, I'm sick of this life. I'm sick of living this life. I'm sick of my parents. I'm sick of my brother. I'm sick of going to school. Like in a perfect world, I just want to be with you. I just want to do away with them. I just want to be with you. Like, really be with you. And I don't know what she was thinking, but I'm pretty sure her marrying at Jeremy at twelve would be considered illegal in Canada. But I digress. Finally, Jeremy, because you know, he ain't he ain't that bright. Jeremy is just like, So what do you mean? You wanna do away with your family? And Jasmine is just like, Well, it begins with me killing them and it ends with me living with you. Now Jeremy was unemployed, so I don't know where Jasmine thought she was gonna be living, but like you could see the front like the development of the frontal lobe is not there. Anyhow. So instead of Jeremy saying, you know what, baby, that's a terrible idea. You know, what brought you to this point? I mean, they both knew like their parents were that her parents were cramping their style. Rightfully so. That's what they should do. They were doing what they should have been doing. He's like, Okay, you know, Jasmine, I love your plan, but it needs to be more detailed. So the two of them start planning and Jeremy, of course, goes online because Jeremy, one thing I've noticed is Jeremy does not know how to shut up. So Jeremy goes online and he posts this message on his socials, quote, their throats I want to slit. They will regret the SHIT that they have done. Especially when I see to it that they are gone. They shall pay for their insolence. Finally there shall be silence. Their blood shall be payment. Jeremy, that was not poetic. I don't know if you thought that was that was a good one, but it wasn't. So now it's April twenty second, two thousand twenty six, and Jeremy at this time he's living in a straw book in a small beat up trailer with his mom, which is why I'm like, Jasmine, where were you living? Where were you living, girl? He is just like, okay, today's the day. I'm gonna prep for, you know, what's about to go down tonight, and I'm gonna watch the movie Natural Born Killers with my friends. So Natural Born Killers is a nineteen ninety-four movie starring Woody Harrelson and Juliet Lewis, who play this married couple named Mickey and Mallory Knox, who survived tragic childhoods. And because of their tragic childhoods, they go on a killing street and become glorified by the media in kind of like a Bonnie and Clyde way. But get this the first murders that Mickey and Mallory had committed were drumroll, please. Parents. If you guessed her parents, you have won a prize. Claim it in the comments. So this apparently gave Jeremy all the fuel he needed to commit the act. And with that, he and Jasmine begin to act out their plan. Now, Jeremy and Jasmine were not shy about their plans. And like I said earlier, Jeremy does not know how to shut the hell up. So they both told close friends and acquaintances what they plan to do. And spoiler alert, nobody believes them. They did not think they would do anything that stupid. Y'all be having the right friends. Because I would have gotten off the phone like, girl, you gonna do what? You're gonna do what? Please tell me you're joking. You're not joking. Okay, girl. Well, all right, well, you know, my mama speaks to you later. Click. 911, what's your emergency? My friend is about to kill her parents. Can y'all please go over there and stop her? Like, that's me. Anyone that knows me and loves me knows that if you are planning on committing a crime, please do not tell me. I have no poker face. And the moment that the police shine a light in my face to say, where were you on the night of, I'm gonna break down and I'm gonna tell them everything. So please leave me out of it. Anyhow, child. So it's now the night of April 22nd, 2006. It is a mild day with a high of about 60 degrees, which is 15 degrees Celsius, because you know we're in Canada this week. And so on this evening, we find the Richards's getting ready for bed. And Jasmine and Jeremy have done their nightly checks as well. Jeremy went to the store and purchased a neoprene mask, a rubber gloves, and a knife. And Jasmine was just like, well, I'll just make sure that basement window is open for you to get into. And so she goes downstairs, unlocks the basement window, and heads back upstairs, like, all right, mom, all right, Damn going to bed. All right. See y'all the morning. So Deborah is headed to bed, and you know, she's doing her pre-bed checks. Are the doors swap? Checked. Everything is off, checked. Stove is turned off, checked. Kids are in their rooms, check. Strange man in the basement? Check. Wait. Huh? So let's back that up. So Deborah, she's in her nightgown getting ready for bed and you know, turning off everything, getting ready for bed, like I said, and she hears a strange noise in the basement. So she jumps up and she's like, What the hell was that noise? And so that noise was dumbass Jeremy crawling through the basement window drunk. He was high. He had done weed, coke, ecstasy, PCP, L S D, A, B, C, D, E, F G. I made everything past ecstasy up. But while Derp Derp is making noise, Deborah's like, what the hell is that noise? And she heads into the basement to check it out. She better than me, I would have asked my husband to do it. And I was not going down there without a shotgun. Because why am I hearing strange noises in my basement? I'm not investigating that. What if it's a rat? You know? So Deborah walks down into the basement and she sees Jeremy and it's like, Jeremy, what the hell are you doing here? And Jeremy had no words, just action for Deborah, and he lunged at her. And begins stabbing her over and over and over again. He stabbed her over a dozen times in various areas of her body, killing her by piercing her heart. So Mark, of course, he's the man of the house. He's hearing Deborah screaming. He's What the hell is going on downstairs? And so he rushes downstairs with a small screwdriver. Does nobody in this house own a gun? So he goes downstairs with a small screwdriver, sees Jeremy stabbing Deborah. And he runs over to Jeremy and he said, I'm not going down without a fight. And he stabs Jeremy in the eye. And apparently he did not know that Jeremy was a 300-year-old werewolf. So he pretty much ate him stabbing him in the eye. Then he was jacked up on a hell of a lot of drugs. And he counterattacked by stabbing Mark over 24 times, nine times in the back by itself. According to Wikipedia, Mark asked Jeremy with his dying breath. Why would you do this to us, Jeremy? And Jeremy responded, Because it's what your daughter wanted, allegedly. Now, while all this is going on, Jacob is terrified. He is in his room shaking in his boots. He's like, my gosh, my parents. Like Jasmine really lost her freaking mind. And remember, he was already afraid of Jasmine. And so this is where Jasmine and Jeremy's story differ because after her parents were killed, they're talking and they're just like, my gosh, baby, that was great. Yeah, Transylina. And they're like, what do we do about him? And so they're thinking about it and Jasmine's just like, you know what? Jacob is too emotionally sensitive to deal with both of our parents dying. Like, look at him. He's in shambles. And it would be totally unfair to leave him as an orphan. So he gotta go too. And so they walk towards Jacob. Now Jeremy's story, he said he stayed by the door. And just trigger warning, this part does involve the death of a child. And so Jeremy says he stayed by the door the whole time. So Jasmine's walking toward Jacob. He's on his bed. He has a little toy lightsaber and he is swinging for dear life. Like he's just like, no, you're never, you're not gonna take me. You're not gonna take me alive. And they o they, Jasmine, overpower him, stabbed him, and slit his throat. Once again, Jeremy said he never touched Jacob. Jasmine said she never touched Jacob. Jasmine says, Jeremy killed him. Jeremy. says jasmine killed him, we will never know because they are the only two that know. After Mark, Deborah, and Jacob's death, Jeremy completely stripped down of like his mask and whatever. And he ran outside, got into his Jeep and sped off. Because you know he probably ain't have much gas in there. Jasmine stayed behind to pack her bags, clean up a bit, and grab some money from her mother's purse. So she gets the blood off of her. She's, you know Like, okay, well, let me get some money, let me pack me some clothes, gotta make sure I have my toothbrush. I'm sitting here thinking, like, you like you something has to not be right up here because I could not, I could not be in a house with my dead relative. Like I can't do it. I can't, I can't even I can't even say it because that's how freaked out I would be. That is how freaked out I would be. Even like at my dad's funeral, I was like, I don't want to touch up. Like, I'm just I can't. Do dead bodies. I just can't. But I'm sitting here like, okay, so her family, like her all of her family members are dead in that house, covered in blood, stabbed to death. And she's like, I'm gonna wash my face, I'm gonna fix my makeup, I'm gonna put my hair into a bun. gotta get some money. Let me go get mama's purse. All right, what do I need? Probably some pads, some underwear, a couple shirts, pants, shoes. All right, you know. And so she leaves the house, she goes to a nearby 7 Eleven, and she gets cash from her mom's account, and she hops in a taxi and she takes it over to Jeremy's trailer. And I'm just like, Jeremy, where is your mother? Where was Jeremy's mother while all this was going on? So Jasmine gets over to Jeremy's and they're like, my gosh, we did it. We actually did it. What should we do to celebrate? They did it. And I'm not getting into that any further. And so then they head out to a house party and they're both in like I mean, when I tell you they're in good moods, they're like drinking and smoking, they're getting high and they're dancing and I don't know what goth parties are like, but that's my imagination. And so they're making out and she's straddling him and she's on his lap and they're just having a good old time. But as we know, Jeremy does not know how to shut the hell up. So Jeremy is just like, You see my eye injury? Yeah. Her dad stabbed me in the eye. Yeah. And then he's just telling everybody, like, yeah, you see my eye injury? Yeah, her dad stabbed me in eye. And then he tells everyone, he's like, Yeah, we just got done killing her entire family. And he tells them that he quote gut them like fish. And Jasmine is not funny. Like, it's not funny. I I have this nervous tick where I laugh when stuff is just outrageous. But Jasmine, while all this is going on, Jasmine is like, Yep, sure did. Killed my entire family. And my brother gargled. Police! Huh lease. But nobody at the party believed them. They were just like, y'all are funny. Like y'all really be taking this stuff seriously, huh? So they finish enjoying themselves at the party and they start making their way out away from Medicine Hat. So the following morning, it's April twenty third, two thousand six, and one of Jacob's friends is like, I'm gonna go play with Jacob mom if that's okay. And his mom's like, Yeah, sure. That's cool. So he eats his breakfast, does the Saturday morning cartoon things that we used to do back then. And then he heads over to the Richardson house. And he is stopped right in his tracks when he walks up to the house and he's like, that looks like a dead body laying on the floor. Someone's definitely laying on the floor right there. So he makes a U-turn and runs back home and tells his mother immediately. So the police are called and inspector Brent Sakondiak of the Medicine Hat Police Force responds to the call. He peeks through the basement window and immediately sees Mark's body. And he's just like, I'm going to need backup immediately. And so backup arrives. They enter the home. In the basement, they find the bodies of Mark and Deborah. And they said that Mark looked like he died fighting because his hands were still balled up. Like he still had fists up. Like they said, Mark put up a fight because just the s positioning that he was in when he died made it look like he was swinging. they did find Jacob dead upstairs on top of a blood soaked mattress surrounded by blood soaked toys next to that blood soaked lightsaber that he used to fight for his life with. He had a deep cut to his throat and his eyes and mouth were wide open. So they're processing the scene and they're just like, There's one question that needs to be answered. Where's Jasmine? And the search for Jasmine begins. Initially they thought that Jasmine may have been kidnapped against her will, but that theory quickly changed once they searched her room and found unidentified evidence there. So they found something in her room. None of the reports said what they found, and I'll get into that later. But they found something in her room and so they're just like, okay, well maybe is she at school? Maybe I don't know. So they head over to her school, they open up her locker, and they realize that hanging in her locker was a hand drawn picture of Mark, Deborah, and Jacob dead. Girl. At that time, Jasmine was removed from being listed as a victim and quickly became a suspect. Following Jeremy and Jasmine's social media profiles and hearing from the gang of witnesses that they told about their crime and told where they were going next, police were able to catch up to Jasmine and Jeremy at a local convenience store in Saskatchewan. So Jasmine and Jeremy were both arrested without incidence, and they were both charged with three counts of first degree murder. The funerals for Mark, Deborah, and Jacob were held on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006, at La Toussaint Church in Sudbury, where they were celebrated by dozens of family, friends, who came to pay tribute to the loving family. After their arrest, Jasmine and Jeremy kept in contact with one another, writing each other letters back and forth through the prison walls. They promised to visit each other as often as possible and profess their love to one another over and over, leading up to Jeremy proposing that. To Jasmine via mail, which she joyfully accepted. In November 2007, Jasmine was first up for trial. She entered a not guilty plea and said to the court that she had, quote, hypothetical conversations about killing her family, but did not intend to actually do it. When asked why they went through with committing the murders, Jasmine replied, I loved him so much, I thought it would bring us closer together. And this, my friends, is why you should not date before your frontal lobe is developed. Now with Canada being I dare say a very friendly place. They do not believe in jailing youth offenders. And in Canadian law, there is a statute called the Youth Criminal Justice Act or the YCJA. And under the YCJA, criminals aged twelve through fourteen at the time of their crime are ineligible to be sentenced as adults. They cannot be charged with over ten years sentence and they cannot be placed in They can't like be placed in a formal prison. Like they can't be, they can't serve over ten years, they can't be placed in a formal prison, and they cannot be charged under the age of twelve. Minors under the age of twelve in Canada, per Canada law, cannot be charged with a crime. Jasmine was found guilty, and during sentencing, she was given credit for the 18 months time served to be followed by four years in a psychiatric institution and four and a half years of community supervision. She was 14 years old when she was sentenced. Now, Jeremy. Jeremy talks too damn much, like I said. Like I feel like I have said that at least four times. But Jeremy talks too damn much. And while he was locked up, he had a full-on conversation with an undercover police officer detailing the murders. Jeremy, shut the hell up. Now Jeremy's trial started in November 2008, and his lawyers argued that Jeremy was in an alcohol and drug-fueled haze. When he snapped and stabbed Jasmine's parents to death. They described him as a love-struck, immature man, they got that second part right, who would do anything to keep his preteen girlfriend's affection. I would be looking at my defense team like y'all are talking about me like this? What? Like y'all are talking about me? Damn. Jeremy's friends testified that he had asked for help to get rid of Jasmine's family because he was worried that. She would leave him if he did not go through with her plan. Jeremy, you are a grown ass man taking orders from a 12-year-old. Like, immature man was for one thousand, Alex. Anyways, he doubled down on his claim that it was Jasmine who slashed her brother's throat while he watched from the doorway. The prosecution was like, this is pretty open and shut, and urged the jury to deny Jeremy's attempts to lessen the charges from second degree murder. I'm sorry. The prosecution was like, this is pretty much an open and shut case. And they urged the jury to deny Jeremy's attempts to lessen his first degree murder charge to a second degree or manslaughter charge, saying, Quote, A father fought for his family's life to his death. You had police officers who mourned the loss years later of the terrible things that they saw inside that Alberta house. Hearing both sides, the jury found Jeremy guilty and he was sentenced to three life sentences to be served concurrently and will be eligible for parole in 2031. Jeremy, unfortunately, was never charged with statutory rape. At the time of this case, Jasmine was listed as the youngest multiple killer in Canadian history, which brings me to where are they now? Well, apparently, Jeremy obviously is still in prison, but he changed his name to Jackson May back in 2012. He wanted to carry his mother's last name and I guess put some distance between himself and this case and some distance between himself and the whole stinky Steinkey thing. We can still pretty much find you, Jeremy Jackson May. Because you're not getting out of prison right now. And it's odd because I feel there are certain parts of the story where I feel bad for Jeremy, but I'll get into that into my final thoughts. And before I do say that I feel bad for Jeremy, I wanna know if he still hates niggas and pigs. He continues to serve his life sentence and is eligible for parole after twenty five years. So he'll be eligible for parole in two thousand thirty one. And I'm pretty sure he'll get out. He was fairly young when he did the crime, Canada seems to not like punishing people 'cause in America, he would have never gotten they would have been under the jail. In Florida, under the jail. I can't speak for every part of America. California. It seems like some of the westernmost states are more lenient. And maybe New York. But I can't even say New York 'cause I've known people to get arrested in New York for nothing. So anyways. He'll probably get out. He'll probably get his first parole, but I'm a set of timer. I'm gonna be looking. I'm gonna be looking up Jackson May come twenty thirty one. Jasmine was released from her program in May 2016. After her final hearing for her release, Jasmine was given a positive review from her probation officer, who basically said that she was no problems throughout the entirety of her program. Her trial case was heard by Justice C. S. Booker, who ended by stating, quote, I think your parents and brother would be proud of you. Clearly you cannot undo the past. You can only live each day with the knowledge you can control how you behave and what you do each day. She thanked him, issued no apology, showed no remorse, and left to become a free woman. Jasmine's whereabouts are unknown as the Canadian government because of her age at the time of the crime. They have completely wiped her off the internet. Her name, her likeness. Anything pertaining to her being connected to this case has been redacted in Canada. The only reason I got all the information I got is because we're in America. Jasmine changed her name upon release, and she now lives a very private life somewhere in Canada. A lot of her neighbors say that they believe she's still in her old neighborhood. I can't confirm or deny that. I will say this. It was said that during her time she did apologize and expressed remorse for her actions. like over the course of those ten years that she was in psych hold or whatever. and in early two thousand twenty, Jasmine's criminal record was expunged and she was released from anything tying her to the murders. Like she got a brand new life. She probably looks totally different now 'cause she's she's thirty two, I believe, now. No, she's yeah, she's thirty-two. And she can apply to jobs in her new name. She can apply for credit in her new name, and no one will ever know that she is Jasmine Richardson. And in Canadian articles, like because I did look up some Canadian articles for this case, they just refer to her as JR. Like they don't they do speak on the Richardson family, but like when it comes to her name, they just put JR. Jasmine did attend and I do believe graduated college at Mount Royal University in Alberta, Canada. And like I said, news of her release was kind of met with mixed reviews. Some people felt like ten years with good behavior is enough time to be rehabilitated, and others, including responding officer Brent Secondiak, he said that he feels like Jasmine's likely to reoffend. He said, Quote, I don't truly understand it. An act of horror and violence like that. But I hope we can find Peace and just move on. My biggest fear is that she has not been rehabilitated and that she's tricked those in the system, that she hasn't moved forward. I hope that she's truly taken responsibility for this and that she is able to really move forward. And I guess we'll see. Jackie Mae, who, if you remember, is Jeremy's mom, she did pass away in March of 2016. She was Jeremy's closest relative. So, like I said, I do believe he'll probably get out in 2031. and I just hope that he takes care of himself. Like that's it, that's all. Just take care of yourself. Cause he'll be if he does get out in twenty thirty one, he'll be about forty eight years old. So he still has time to live a decent life if he will allow himself to. He just has to like start over completely. But it's hard though because his name is all over. It's in everything. Even though he's changed it, it's just like Jeremy Steinkey slash Jackson May. You know what I'm saying? So it's like I don't know, maybe he just needs to move. I'm not sure how that works, but you know, that brings me to my final thoughts. Canada, what kind of slap on the wrist treatment was this? That girl served virtually no time. She served virtually no time because she did 18 months in jail, four years in the psychiatric hospital, and four and a half years on community supervision, which is to me seemed just like probation. She served no time at all. I personally don't believe that she's truly rehabilitated only because she served no time at all. Like, yes, she had to go through these things. And maybe she is, because she had to get treatment. She had to, you know, go through these psychiatric evaluations. She had to show progress. But I feel like anybody can say, Yes, I'm feeling good and I'm not depressed and I'm sorry for killing my parents. Because do you know how many other things that you could have done? before you made the decision to kill your parents, you could have ran away. You could have ran away. You could have simply just moved out. You could have just not came home from school one day. I just my heart goes out to the Richardson family because they truly did the best they could. Like they truly were just like, okay, this is a problem. We're taking her devices. Okay, this is a problem. We're addressing this issue. I don't know how else they would have handled it outside of saying because it would have been completely egregious for them to say, okay, you know what? We're not winning this battle. Date your 23 year old boyfriend. I don't know many parents that would be okay with that. I really don't. God forbid my daughter came home and was just like, I'm interested in this guy. He's 23. I'm beating her ass and his ass. Because what do you mean? And I'm sure I will have to. jump over my husband to do so. So it's just like there were just so many other things. I I'm just like, what made you think that killing your parents was the way? Because I do believe that this was totally her idea. I do feel like Jeremy was lost without her. Which is even crazy to say because I'm like Jeremy, you're a grown ass man. Find somebody else on the internet. Like you're 23. I just don't see what a 23 year old would have in common with a 12 year old. I have a 12 year old. Her sixteen year old brother barely has anything in common. So it just does not make sense that he thought that was okay. Her thinking it was okay, I'm gonna blame it on her being a naive 12 year old. Him thinking that was okay, he's an immature man. And this story, I place it in the same vein of irritation that I have with the Gypsy Rose Blanchard story. But I will give Gypsy Rose Blanchard a little bit of credit because her mother was actually someone that she needed to get away from. By all accounts, Jasmine did not have a bad life. Her parents loved her. They wanted what was best for her and she repaid them evil for good. Obviously, no one is perfect, but they really, really tried to do the best that they could to raise her right. They really did. And I just feel like why it gives me that same level of irritation is because I can't remember what the guy's name that Gypsy Rose, you know, did her mom's murder with. I can't remember his name. But she got eight years or something like that. And she got out. That man is still in prison. Jasmine served her community service 10 years. Because that's what I'm gonna call it. Because that was not a real sentence. And she's out. She her record was expunged. She gets to live a brand new life with nothing but memories and whatever she holds in her heart tying her to this. And Jeremy's still in prison. And I find that to be unfair. Because to me, and granted, yes, she's a child. She was a child when this happened. I get that. But I'm like, if you are grown enough to be sneaking out with a 23 year old man and planning your parents' murder and opening the basement window to go through with your parents' murder, because I hear what she's saying, like, it was just hypothetical. You opened the window so that he can come in. He did not go through the front door. You left that window open so that he can get through with it. You planned this. And I feel like not enough accountability was taken. She did apologize. She did show remorse. She did say, hey, what I did was a jacked up thing. But do you really believe that? Because like I'm just like, you went from zero to one million. Murder? Like, girl, please. Sincerely, go to hell. And I don't know what her relationship is like with her parents' family. I don't know. Because I've this is not the first case I've heard like this. In other cases, they have welcomed them back with open arms. I just don't know because we don't have that information on her, but I don't know, girl. You can truly I don't feel like she's rehabilitated. and like I said, the only reason I feel bad for Jeremy or I felt bad because I still want to know what he means by he don't like niggas and pigs. he had a tough life. I'm not making excuses for him, so please don't ever take it as that. Cause I believe everyone should be held accountable. I know people that have had it worse than Jeremy that still turned out okay because they made a choice. You know? And if we don't take anything away from this episode, it would always be to check your mindset. Your mind can have you doing some crazy things. Your mind can put you in some crazy situations. Check your mindset. Because the moment he caught himself falling for a twelve year old, he should have checked himself right then and there. And that would have been the end of that. Jasmine would have found somebody else. Maybe somebody age appropriate. That's all I'm saying. But I just feel like he didn't commit the crime by himself. Jasmine's free. She can get married. She can have a baby. She's in her early thirties. So she still has her whole life ahead of her. And Jeremy, he's about to be fifty. You know, it's like wait, am I doing my math wrong? He was born in what, eighty three? What year is it? So he'll be forty three now. And in five years he'd be forty eight. Okay, yeah. I did my math right. See, I gotta check myself sometimes. But let me know what you guys think about Jasmine. Like, is ten years enough time to rehabilitate someone? Who murdered their parents? Like, I just I like if she had done something like stolen a car and drove off the road and accidentally hit someone, fine. Ten years is enough time for rehabilitation. You planned, plotted, and carried out the murder of your parents and your younger brother. I say put her back in. But it's not up to me. It's up to the Canadian government. And that's our show for today. Follow me on TikTok, Minor Mischief Pod, Instagram, Minor Mischief Podcast. Case suggestions, wanna chat, wanna key key key key key away from here. Minor Mischief Podcast at gmail dot com. I do want to just take a quick moment to say thank you to everyone that's listening to the podcast. I ch I don't check my analytics as much as I should. I probably check it about once a week, but the show is growing. And that means so much to me. Like, I really had to sit and think because when I was younger, I was a journalism major. I love to write. I love to write poetry, short stories. I would write stories in my head all the time. And, you know, just growing older and having kids, I got away from that. And so I just had an epiphany. I'm just like, You're doing it. This is this is journalism. Even though it's it's a true crime podcast, it's journalism. Like I'm still telling stories, and so I'm just like, my gosh, I did it. So it just it means so much to me, you know, to have you guys here along this ride. I know sometimes I can be a bit much. Sometimes I feel like maybe I'm a little judgmental. Sometimes I say things that may not be nice. But I mean well. I mean well. I really, really do. And I hope that that is portrayed. My heart goes out to the Richardson family. Rest in eternal, beautiful sleep. And I just, you know, 'cause I know Mark and Deborah had both lost a parent, but they still had parents alive when they died. And it's just like to hear I couldn't imagine hearing that, you know, your child had passed at the hands of your grandchild. Like it's just a lot. It really reminds me of like the Carly Gregg case. She's still in prison. I'm just saying she's still in prison and her grandparents want her to be out. Like they want her. You know what I'm saying? It's just I don't know. It's messed up. And I just hate that no matter where you are, laws are different. Things are different. I just I feel like that was not enough time though. And I feel like I I agree with the officer, Brent. I think his take was correct. I feel like that was not enough time. And I'm hoping though that she takes what happened and just learns and grows from it. That's all I can hope and pray for. And I hope she did just that. But that's our show. Thank you all for tuning in. I will see you guys next week, same day. Have a wonderful end of May. I hope everyone's Memorial Weekend was good. I'll speak to you next Thursday. And until then, stay mischievous, friends.
