- 0:00[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome on in to Big Play Cleveland Live.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_02]: Presented by Fandle.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Nick Pidone.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_02]: Gab Gaudy joins me in studio, Chris McNeill joins us remotely.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_02]: On what turns to be a very,
- 0:20[SPEAKER_02]: sad Friday morning into the afternoon as bright before we go on air.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_02]: We get the news from ESPN's Shams, Trautia and straight from the at King James Acts account that LeBron James is joining the Philadelphia 76ers.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_02]: in free agency signs a two year veteran minimum contract picks the sixers over the calves, the heat putting an end to the 24 day LeBron watch.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_02]: Guys, I want to start the show and say this.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm crushed.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm heartbroken.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_02]: I thought LeBron coming back to Cleveland.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_02]: was a done deal.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was the way the story was supposed to be ended.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_02]: I thought some of the stuff that we were even seeing over the last 48 hours about the potential to get Kyrie or Anthony Davis spoke to the fact that, hey, LeBron's working behind the scenes because he knows he's coming home.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_02]: As it turns out, that was really LeBron throwing a life raft in the direction of Kobe Altman who finds himself,
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: trading water and finds himself with the water creeping up near his neck and Kobe Altman is drowning as we sit here on a Friday morning.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: Good morning guys.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: LeBron's in Filly.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_02]: We're here in Cleveland trying to pick up the pieces of what is the latest decision from LeBron.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_02]: He picks
- 1:58[SPEAKER_04]: My initial reaction is I was walking out the door to get here and I said, oh no, I'm going to end up being in tears by the time I make it down here, which is pretty close.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not thrilled.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_04]: Not having a good day.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think I'm actually going to have a day for at least.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know what we had to look forward to.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_04]: Does anyone have anything to look forward to?
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: Well, don't worry.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: Because if this isn't enough, the the Deshawn Watson versus Shador Sanders training camp quarterback competition gets going next week.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_04]: Lucky us.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, this is crushing.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: I obviously have been pounding this drum really for over a year to try to get LeBron back to Cleveland.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like the Cavs really were a LeBron James away from winning a championship.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: He feels like the 76ers are closer because they have Tyre's Maxi and James Hardin.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: They have Jalen Brown and not Donovan Mitchell.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: As we sit here, my immediate reaction Chris, I feel more anger towards the Cavs organization.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: I feel
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: like this is a failure on the behalf of Cobyaltman, Dan Gilbert and the Cleveland Cavaliers, they were unable to land the plane.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: They were unable to get the greatest player of this generation back to Cleveland because Mike Gansy who their general manager was.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: He was in the building
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: the goal goes to Philly becomes president of basketball operations is able to get Jalen Brown to Philly in a blockbuster surprise with the Boston Celtics and then is able to land the plane and get LeBron on a two year veteran minimum contract.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: The calves are no longer like the class of this Eastern Conference, remember James Hardin was saying that he felt like they were better than the nicks, even after the nicks swept them, hey, those days are over now, because there's Yannis Antedicumpo on the Miami heat.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_02]: There's LeBron and Jalen Brown on this six, there's not to mention the nicks that are the champions.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_02]: This is a new look Eastern Conference in Eastern Conference, where the calves and their president of basketball operation find themselves with their pants around their ankles.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yet again.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's very fitting Nick that I saw Odyssey last night.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you guys have seen that movie, but basically the uptick is it's Odessa's trying to come home right and Penelope's there and there's all kinds of suitors.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: But she says he's going to come home and she waits forever.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: Wait seven years for him to come home.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what we were as calves fans.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think no matter how long this lasted, it seemed like we had a quiet confidence that he was going to come home that he was going to come back.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: There was just that written in the stars that LeBron James was going to be in Cleveland.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: And ultimately, it doesn't happen.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Desis doesn't come back in this case.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't come home and ultimately, we're the ones holding the bag on this.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: and it's just amazing.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: It sucks to sit in this situation because it is such a shock as you were saying, Gab, because I fully expected when he did make that decision, when he took this time, and he said he was listening to his family, and I understand, hey, I've got kids that are about the same age as his.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: If you're trying to decide whether it's a vacation or anything else,
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: If you're involving the family, that's going to take some time to get resolved and try and figure out what you want to do.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: But ultimately at the end of this decision making process, he decides to give us far away from his family as possible and goes out to Philly.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: I did not see that coming at all.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's an absolute shock to the system for me.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm already seeing it all over social media rightfully so there was a lot of grumbling about Kobe Altman going into this in the lack of moves and now the fact that he didn't do anything and he didn't land the prize that everybody thought was coming back to Cleveland.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: That hurts and I'll tell you what, I think we can see some movement here in the fire Kobe Altman camp because
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: I hate to do this and I'm not going to you know sit here and and I've already pounded my hand on the desk before the show even started Yeah, hey calling for people's jobs, right, but I think he makes this move to go to Philly because he believes that they're positioned to win a championship He believes that Cleveland native Mike and he doesn't do anything put together a team that's closer to winning a championship than the calves are
- 6:19[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, if he wanted to win a championship, he shouldn't just win to the nicks.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_04]: Go to San Antonio.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know why going to Philly was the answer.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_02]: We do have this social media post up from acting James on X.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: The reason why he decided to pick Philly over Cleveland.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a chance to win for another championship.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_02]: And I am so excited.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_02]: to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you, LA.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: My amyel forever love and northeast Ohio will always be home, but Lebron's going to Philadelphia in my opinion, not because of the legacy.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: You check the legacy at the door, right?
- 7:04[SPEAKER_02]: The storybook ending would have been here in Cleveland.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: We wouldn't have cared whether
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: He decided to go to Philly because he felt like Mike Gansy did a better job than Kobe Altman and Dan Gilbert this off season.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's the way that I read this.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: I know it's this thing's man bad.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_02]: Because it felt like this really was an honest decision where he was weighing family and legacy and
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: fit and basketball future.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: And we see it and hear it straight from the source himself.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: He picked Philly because he felt like they're better positioned to win a title.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: That's a slight to what the Cavs currently have going on.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: And Miss Beat, you know, the Cavs are going to sign Jonathan Kominga Armario, his own.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: Wow, great.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: Miss me with that.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: That's that's not the brown James.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's not enough.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: You are now a serious tear in my mind Below the New York Nicks below the Philadelphia 76ers the heat
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the pistons and raptors had you on the ropes there and round one and two of the NBA postseason, Kobe Altman, what are we doing?
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: And the injury to insult Nick is who understands the calves more than Lebron James.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: You don't think he has studied this team.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: He knows this organization.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: He knows how close we are from the players on the floor to that entire organization up and down.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for your support.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: I got to go somewhere else and that's very concerning to me to me as a fan who's outside, you know, I'm not in that building.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not close to anybody in that building at all.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: I watch all the games like everyone else does and I think I have an understanding of basketball, but I don't have near the understanding shocking that LeBron James does and that guy knows that organization better than anyone else outside of the Cleveland Cavaliers and he said, nope, they're not that close.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: I want to go to Philly, which I think is a farther shot than what the calves would be.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: And now like you said, where are we at night shuffle in the east?
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think the east was as strong as it was going into the playoff last year.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: All the said, you have New York, win it all, right?
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: And now you say, wow, we thought we had a shot at really being the class of these.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: To now we are an afterthought.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: And we are already an afterthought going into last season.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think we are picked like fourth.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: And now where are we at?
- 9:31[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, you want my read on this.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think that that report that came out from Kevin O'Connor and Yahoo Sports about 48 hours ago, and then we had another report about 12 or 13 hours ago, that said LeBron was trying to angle the calves to go out and sign and trade hard and for Kyrie.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_02]: He was trying to get the calves to get on the horn with the Washington Wizards and make something shake for Anthony Davis.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like that was LeBron's way because he has such a great understanding of how the calves operate.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: That was his way of throwing them a life jacket.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: He was throwing them a life raft.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, you want me to come back?
- 10:13[SPEAKER_02]: I'm telling you, go get Kyrie.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: He's a better point guard Ben James Harden.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: Go get Anthony Davis.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: He's somebody who even though he's had his injury concerns in the playoffs, his toughness has never been questioned the way that Jared Allen and Evan
- 10:29[SPEAKER_02]: been.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's won a championship alongside LeBron in LA.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like that report was LeBron and his camp giving the Cavs one final opportunity to make their move to convince him to come home and they never made it.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: I can't believe guys more than anything.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_02]: A couple of weeks ago during the summer league, we had Kenny Akinson, the head coach of the team, was on NBA TV talking about talking like this was fade out completely, talking about this was a done deal, the direct quote from Kenny Akinson, I'm paraphrasing, so it's not a direct quote, sorry.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: was something along the lines of you're going to see our move in free agency.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: We've got this free agency thing that could help us get better too.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_02]: Jonathan Kominga, Mario Hazonga, you got swept by the nicks.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: Dan Gilbert put out a tweet immediately following the last game saying that it wasn't good enough.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: You are not good enough.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: I'm curious to see what happens now, man, because just hard-enacted out of that thing to give them the flexibility, like if your game's hard-en.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: I want my money, you screwed the pooch, I gave you flexibility to go get LeBron, you didn't do it, forget about flexibility, I want my money.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, I have a question.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if they will wait a second.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: Now, what you were looking for in terms of that quote, Nick, and keep in mind, right?
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: These guys don't talk.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like coaches don't talk about other players from other teams.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: They certainly don't talk about trades.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: They don't talk about, that's just to put it in context.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: So Kenny Akinsen says, we're in the mix for the greatest player of all time.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: In my personal opinion, it's exciting, right?
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're nervous.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, to say something like that, and then not land the guy, I mean, he really put the organization in a news right there, put the next right in the news, and if you don't complete that, man, oh man, that's tough.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_02]: Off that he also the analytical wins a Chris, I'm sorry, get him out.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_02]: Kenny Akinson, I'm done.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: You could mark Kenny Akinson, date of death as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Friday, July 24th at the time of Champs-Tronia dropping the news that LeBron James was going to Philly.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_02]: You want to talk about analytical wins.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_02]: You want to talk about being in the mix for the greatest player of all time.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: You want to talk about making a big move in free agency, and that's really going to be your differentiator in the Eastern Conference.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_02]: And then you miss out on LeBron James.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_02]: I would fire copialtman and Kenny Ackinson today.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: Goodbye.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: Johnny Bryant is my head coach, and I guess Brandon Weems could be GM in the hopes that maybe you trade for LeBron at the deadline, because Philly will eventually learn there's only
- 13:22[SPEAKER_02]: are just gonna dribble the air out of it.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pissed off guys, I am.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_02]: I am, because I really heard right when I got back from my wedding that this was close, it was Cleveland still ahead of the race I never heard that it was a done deal.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_02]: I heard that people in that Mr. Ohio basketball community that Gansy is a part of were really talking and were really pointing signs back towards Cleveland.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_02]: The membership here with Firestone, the membership here with Portage Lakes, he joins all these country clubs, the Mr. Ohio Basketball Circle.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_02]: Starts talking that LeBron's really gonna be back the inner circle and the no Drew Joyce the second all of these people are pointing them back to the calves It felt like it probably would have been the calves, but Kobe couldn't convince him to come back That's that's how I'm reading this right now, and that disgusts me because this is a guy that was literally
- 14:14[SPEAKER_02]: crying his eyes out during an NBA regular season basketball game because of the hero's welcome that he got the last time he played inside that building and now we only will see them play a couple more times in that building before he calls it a career.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's a disgusting mismanagement from this basketball team that really has failed to bring a winner to Cleveland outside of LeBron.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: Gab, what was your question?
- 14:38[SPEAKER_04]: My question is, do you think that Donovan Mitchell has anything to do with this decision for LeBron James?
- 14:42[SPEAKER_04]: Because you never see him hyping up Donovan the way that he does with Kyrie, but Kyrie was his teammate.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_04]: You never see him hyping Tyree's Maxi up.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_04]: I know that they're both within clutch, but you never hear LeBron going back to Donovan Mitchell and saying, that's a really good basketball player and I want to play basketball with him.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_02]: It's possible.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: I can't believe though, guys, like you'd like deeper than that, right?
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: they are they look so dumb right now because they put this entire off season on hold they put all of their eggs into this basket gap to answer that question maybe they could have made some moot like harden maybe he didn't love James Harden based off what I saw in the playoffs why would you
- 15:22[SPEAKER_02]: want to sign up to play with that guy with a dot of a Mitchell, you know, it was this first time making it out of the second round.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_02]: Why would you want to tie the end of your career to him and then mobly and Jared Allen in some of the physicality concerns with them?
- 15:36[SPEAKER_04]: Right, but like continuing what you're saying, like the worst part about the Cavs front office right now is that was a gift to them.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_04]: They didn't have to do anything.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_04]: They didn't have to try for that.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_04]: That was LeBron James homecoming story.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_04]: It was right there for you and they did nothing with it and they're complacent.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to have to do with that.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to have to watch Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, Evan Mobley and Jared Allen, try to win another playoff series.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_03]: I think this is a good time to be jumping because I want to, I want to kind of not transition it because you almost need a whole episode to talk about this whole of Bronthing and we're all seeing red right now, but where do the cab stand in the Cistern conference?
- 16:05[SPEAKER_03]: Because we can shift and talk about the plan B with Jonathan Kominga and before we do that, I want to play you guys a clip Matt Fontana yesterday on the show.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_03]: This was before the news that LeBron James obviously was taking his talents to
- 16:19[SPEAKER_03]: That the calves, they're formula to win this year is just internal improvement.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_03]: I know we hear it every year But let's listen a mad.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_03]: I want to get your guys thoughts on that.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: Bruce.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: I was having this conversation too about If the calves don't do anything Let's say brawn doesn't come and yeah sure they get coming on.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: They run this team back There's an essence going to be people that sit there and get worried because they go oh team's got swept in Easter conference finals and they don't have enough and I go I sit there and go
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: you know, there's a world they actually just get better.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: There's a world that they actually improve.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: There's a world that they figure better things out with James Harden with an off season with a full regular season.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: There's a world that, yes, finally, maybe Evan Mobley takes that step that you hope Jared Allen stays healthy.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: There's a world that this Cavs team, even without any changes, could win an NBA title just because they got better.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: People don't want to hear that because they're conditioned.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't got him to translate.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: And that's fine.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's fair.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_03]: Your guys thoughts Nick is a possible internal development gets no I'm sick of you.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sick of hearing that I'm sick of hearing that They had an opportunity to trade for Jalen Brown.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't do it.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_02]: They had an opportunity to trade for Janis They didn't do it because copiolman consistently says Evan were good with Evan moblias our third option.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_02]: We're good with Evan moblias our third option
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, now it feels like you're only choice because again, they're gonna go get commingah whatever, but you're only choice To it is to stick with this thing and internally develop and hope Evan Mobley turns into something that I don't think he's capable of turning into
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: I hate to say that because I am Evan Mobley fan, I do want to see Evan Mobley as a part of the calves, do great things with the calves.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't think that Mobley is wired like a Jalen Brown is wired.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know that he's wired like a Jalen Branson is wired.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's a great player, great defender, but you're talking about this internal development.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_02]: Jalen's hardens been the playoff 17 years is 17 year career.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_02]: He is who he is, Donovan Mitchell.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_02]: Same thing, been to the playoffs every year of his career.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: Took him till this year to get out of that second round.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: He is who are we developing?
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: Jalen Tyson, the coach didn't play him.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: Malik Thomas, he had a great summer league.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: That excites you, does that excite the fan base?
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: A guy who's an up-and-comer, that's about it.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's all we got right now.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: Now, there's a lot of blame being placed right now on James Harden and the fact that LeBron didn't come here and a lot of people are starting to blame James Harden.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: Any thoughts around that, Nick?
- 18:55[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Darious Garland's a clutch sports guy.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: If I could hop in a time capsule and undo that trade, I would probably do it right?
- 19:05[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I'm sure Kobe Alman probably feels the what that same way at this point, but in his mind he is probably delusional and thinking that this team is still going to compete.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_04]: Can I ask you guys another question?
- 19:15[SPEAKER_04]: So do you think the roster right now with the caps is better than going into the season where they were like on the 15 win game streak.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_04]: So.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like it's not because you're lost in way, you lost Keon, like you've only lost this off see you brought back Thomas Brown two years ago You're older.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah James Harden to hear older now and on this Ross.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_02]: No, yeah, yeah, gab no Just keeps getting worse.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: This is not good.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: There's no part of this that's good.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_02]: And you're going to have to here's the other piece of this and I know I kind of alluded at it and I was yelling and screaming, but I'm real when I say like now you're going to have to pay James heart it like that's that's your consolation prize in this thing.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_02]: And that's a guy that was actively selling new post-seasoning.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_02]: Like he was actively the reason why you lost a couple of those post-season games.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_02]: Like your consolation prize is now you're going to have to pay him more money than you probably wanted to because you couldn't land this plane.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm disappointed, man.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_02]: I, like, I, I just, I, I'm disappointed in the people that told me that it was close.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm disappointed in myself for getting my hopes up.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just like disappointed, I kind of can't believe that this happened because my enemy was a place that at least he would want a championship before and you could sell that okay he's going to play with you on this whatever.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_02]: old and state same thing.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's at least a way shorter flight.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_02]: We know he's boys with staff.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_02]: We know he's boys with drama.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_02]: Even though it's weird to join the team that you had all of that history with in the NBA finals, you could have sold it that way.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: But this sixer's team was literally glued together this off season.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_02]: Like we had Scoopy Robinson saying that LeBron was like had some real apprehension about playing with Joel L. M. B.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_03]: And beat hasn't played 50 games in NBA season since Trump was in office the first time Nick, I want to bring this up because you brought up Kevin O'Connor from Yahoo, obviously I had that report about the potential LeBron wanting to reunite with Kyrie Irving.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe Clevver knows that.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Kevin O'Connor and all these national guys They're they're all just lambasting in this cuz they hate Cleveland They didn't want to have to they didn't want to have to travel here
- 21:34[SPEAKER_02]: What did he say?
- 21:34[SPEAKER_02]: What did he say?
- 21:35[SPEAKER_02]: What did he say?
- 21:35[SPEAKER_02]: What did he say?
- 21:36[SPEAKER_02]: What did he say?
- 21:36[SPEAKER_02]: What did he say?
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: What did he say?
- 21:37[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:38[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:38[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:39[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:39[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:40[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:40[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:41[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:42[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:42[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:43[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:43[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:44[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:45[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:46[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:47[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:47[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:48[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:48[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:49[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 21:50[SPEAKER_03]: What did he say?
- 22:01[SPEAKER_02]: I think they're better positioned than the calves are.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think the calves are going to win.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's look at the east right now.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: Here's here's Yahoo sports.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: Here's how they ranked.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: Let's say the top six teams in the east and this was yesterday, right?
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: So this is before the LeBron news.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_00]: They had the next is number one, obviously, as the returning champions.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: They had the calves at number two.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: They had to sell ticks at three, 76ers at four, the Raptors at five, and the Pacers at six, and I'll throw in one more.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: They had to heat at seven there.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: Well, where did the calves drop back to now?
- 22:34[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I have the odds pulled up for the finals.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_04]: If you guys could guess how many teams are above the calves to win a championship?
- 22:43[SPEAKER_02]: I've got him pulled up too, so just reveal them.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, there are nine teams above the Cleveland Cavalry or nine teams.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_02]: And then in included in this list, Chris, our teams, including or in the top third, that's it where the top third will be.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, how how how do you think the pistons look this off season?
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: They're they have better title odds than the calves.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_02]: How about the raptors?
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: Are they going to get to know if you have cool?
- 23:04[SPEAKER_02]: They are they going to get to finish the colli trader is he going to go to jail.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: How about the Celtics?
- 23:12[SPEAKER_02]: Celtics didn't do anything except losing Jalen Brown.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_02]: They're better positioned than the Calfs right now.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: This is a failure to the omptit degree by Colby Altman, Dan Gilbert, and everybody that was involved for being unable to finish this ending.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_02]: What's it say that LeBron picked Philly over a storybook ending in Cleveland?
- 23:33[SPEAKER_02]: What's that say about this situation?
- 23:35[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's too prideful.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's too prideful.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_04]: I think he thought that this is going to work and he's going to keep trying it until it does.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_04]: And it's never going to.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that's how he went into the LeBron meetings.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like he didn't go with a really good, warm welcome to the greatest basketball player of all time.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_03]: Nick.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_03]: So if they get Jonathan coming in, I know that doesn't sound enticing to you right now, but maybe in a week or so it will in a couple days.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_03]: Are you saying they have no shot with Donovan Mitchell James Harden coming going and having mobility to make it out of the east?
- 24:02[SPEAKER_04]: Who's coming off the bench?
- 24:03[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just asking you guys a question.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_02]: They have a shot, sure.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: But it's not a good one.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it says good of a shot is Philly.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think right now my Eastern Conference Power Rankings go something like this.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: New York 1, they're the champs.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: Philly 2, they just signed the greatest basketball player of all time.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_02]: Boston 3, because Tatum has won a championship before, and then I've got the calves, is that fourth team in the East right now, because they did nothing, and the roster is full of guys who shrink in the moment, not expand.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's fair.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's more than fair to be honest with you.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: But in them there, that's right, we were kind of coming into last year too.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: And that's right where we live.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: We live about the forest spot in the east.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, but wait Chris, because they'll try selling you on Jonathan Kominga, who last your average 12 points, five rebounds and two assists.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's the difference maker.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but he's got his side.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_02]: There he's young.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_02]: He's got up side.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: People spin zone it.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_02]: He's only 23.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: They could develop him.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_02]: Kenny coaching them before.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: But hey, maybe you could do something there.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's not great defensively, but hey.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: You never know, diamond in the rough.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: How did the business analytics people in the Cavs organization feel?
- 25:23[SPEAKER_02]: They were telling season ticket holders to hold on.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: There were season ticket holders, Anthony Lima put this out.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: That hedged their Cleveland season tickets with Miami season tickets.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_02]: What a double whammy for those people.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_04]: Well, the Cavs put out an email today, like immediately after two sell tickets once more.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_04]: Have some shame.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, I know kidding.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe way to day.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and you know what's funny is, you know, in preparing for the show, obviously there's blindsided us.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: But one of the questions we had is, how long do you wait at what point do you move on with plan B?
- 25:59[SPEAKER_00]: And my response at that time was you wait forever because there isn't a plan B.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think there is.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there is Nick.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think plan A and plan B were both the same.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: And right now we're going, oh shit, as an organization, we don't have an answer.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think Kominga is probably part of plan B. Mario Hizongia is probably part of plan B.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's not it.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's not going to be enough to get you through these top teams in this eastern conference right now.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't think unless they make a trade like maybe there is some trade that they could make who's tradeable though, who's taking hard and who's taking Alan Schroeder or Struse like you got to start looking at that to improve this Jared Alan trade is already years too late.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_04]: We've talked about this before if they were going to trade Jared Alan they should have done it two years ago and now we're still talking about it now
- 26:51[SPEAKER_00]: I just picture copio and for the last few weeks just sipping on a mojito somewhere on vacation just what are you doing well Lebron's gonna sign just wait for Lebron just wait for Lebron just wait and then all the sudden he gets a call the day that mojito went in the pool and he's got to figure out something because I don't know I'm with you.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it was a strong plan B. I think plan A was so heavily relied upon that they didn't have anything bad
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: If you sit at your job for 24 days and don't do anything, and at the end of those 24 days when it's the day of the assignment, you've got no project, you know what they do, they tell you're asked to go home.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: right.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think he had a plan to do so.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_04]: I think he was just going to stay consistent with what they did.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_04]: And then LeBron James fell into his lap and then fell into the sixers.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think he went to the offices and thinking that they were going to make a move at all.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_04]: And then that accidentally happened.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_00]: I agree with that.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: I do agree with that.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: It was development.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: We got development mobly and run it back again.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: We already made our big move this year with Harden and we're going to run it back with Harden.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that was it.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_02]: This should serve as a massive wake-up call.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: That's really what this should be that you had set the stage perfectly.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: Guys tomorrow, they are celebrating the 2016 championship in the 10 year to 2016 test at the library.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like they're going to do a championship celebration for the 10 years of LeBron breaking the 52 year title drought.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: You had the stage set.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: You had,
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: a roster where you could at least tell yourself we've got enough shooting with strews in Merrill and Mitchell and Hardin.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: We've got the lab threats and the rebounding and the defense with Allen and Mobley.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_02]: We've got a team that was in the conference finals.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_02]: That should tell you on the doorstep of you know winning their next championship.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_02]: And the greatest basketball player of all time looked at that stage, which was perfectly set for a turn and said, no.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm good.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_02]: That should be a wake up call to the organization that you guys are on to absolutely nothing.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_02]: This smartest basketball player of this generation just said without saying you're up to nothing.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_02]: Because he came to the east because he thought that this was a place to win a championship, right?
- 28:58[SPEAKER_02]: If it wasn't, he would have been on the lake or still, or he would have been on Golden State.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_02]: Now obviously you felt like those two teams weren't close.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_02]: The west has stacked the spurs are good, the thunder are good.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_02]: He looked at the east and what the next were able to do to the calves this year and say, how do we do that?
- 29:14[SPEAKER_02]: I think all of these leaks that we got in the last 48 hours were LeBron trying to throw a lifeline to the cast front office saying, go upgrade your point guard, hard and aim it, go get me Kyrie, go upgrade your front court, Allen and Moblier two soft.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_02]: I want to title with Anthony Davis.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_02]: They turned their dose up at that.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_02]: They said, we're not going to have leg EM run the show like has happened in the last couple of decades with LeBron in the NBA.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to do our thing we've made our pitch and that wasn't enough in that that's devastating But it should be a wake-up call Ryan to answer your initial question of where do these teams stack?
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: What can the calves do with internal development?
- 29:53[SPEAKER_02]: You better cross your fingers toes cross whatever you have to cross that I've been mobilized Show us up to training camp looking like a player that he hasn't been in his first five years in the league
- 30:02[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, does anybody think or wonder if Kenny Ackenson had anything to do with the decision?
- 30:07[SPEAKER_03]: Because you remember after that playoff series, they were very quick to announce they were bringing back Kenny Ackenson.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_03]: I don't need to go rehash the David Blatt didn't work out, give him a year and then mid-season go to go to Tyloo.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think that had anything to do with LeBron?
- 30:21[SPEAKER_03]: Because he was there, front seat, got to see the analytical comments that he made, got to watch their epic game-one collapse against the nicks.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think that played into anything?
- 30:29[SPEAKER_04]: I don't really think so.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, we saw them giggling and laughing on the chords together, not like that really matters for anything, but I just out of all the like things that could matter.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_04]: I think Kenny I can do is probably
- 30:39[SPEAKER_02]: Who's the head coach of the sixers the thing with LeBron is when you get LeBron you really get a new starting small for it But you also get a new head coach So I wasn't really that worried about like LeBron and Akinson because LeBron is so smart that he is like having a coach on the floor So I really thought that what have maybe helped the calves again like
- 31:01[SPEAKER_02]: Dude, I remember saying this, the show that we did after the Knicks got swept, that the one mistake I wrote about this on Cows on SI2, the one mistake that the calves could not afford to make.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_02]: This offseason was ignoring their lack of championship identity.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: They've ignored it, because Kenny Akinson has no championship identity.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: He's got like three or four titles I think as an assistant never done it as a head coach.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously nobody in the Core 4 has a championship.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: You looked at some of the guys that you could have got this off season.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_02]: But bronze got four titles on the shelf.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: Janice has his own title on the shelf.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_02]: Jalen Brown has a title on the shelf.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_02]: again, they've completely neglected bringing anybody in that understands what is required to win an NBA championship and Jonathan Komingo, although he's a good-played guy, he's 23.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_02]: And like, like, what is he gonna do when the go-in gets tough against the next or the sixers or the Celtics or the Raptors if they get quiet in the postseason?
- 32:05[SPEAKER_02]: Well, what's that look like?
- 32:06[SPEAKER_02]: Quiet is another guy, championship identities, done in a couple spots.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_04]: What if Jonathan Cummings just says I'm going back?
- 32:13[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not going to Cleveland.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_04]: Hi, I would have been well within the realm of possibilities here.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_04]: Like, why would he want to come here?
- 32:21[SPEAKER_02]: Well within the realm of possibility now.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_02]: And to Chris's question, to Chris's thing of what's plan B, if Jonathan Cummings was plan B and he doesn't want to come here.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_02]: Who's starting at the three?
- 32:31[SPEAKER_02]: Dean Wade's in Philly with Brian now.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, Max.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_02]: Good luck, pal.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_02]: You got, you got, you got a guard tonight.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, Max.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_02]: Good luck, pal.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_02]: They, they got Jalen Brown and the Brown James.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: You win with long athletic wings in this league.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: And the cast don't have one single one on their whole roster.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_03]: I would, I would just like to say to when, when this thing initially dropped in there weren't like that finalist list of teams and the Warriors really did at that one point seemed like the front runner.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody was tweaking out seeing this is the worst possible outcome.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_03]: And I said, I thought,
- 33:04[SPEAKER_03]: If it goes to the Celtics, that's way worse to me.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_03]: And then Philly and that same breath in the Eastern Conference, like that's a potential matchup that we play in the playoffs.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_03]: And everybody said, no, go to the Warriors' way crazier.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_03]: Now that this is reality, do you guys feel like this is worse than if you want to the Warriors?
- 33:18[SPEAKER_03]: Because I still do.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_03]: It I do.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_04]: It I do.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_04]: Like.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_02]: to get to work just the team is going to be worse all of it I do I do right you were right because I feel like how about this I've just got I said you know the stamps tweet was the time of death on Kenny Hackinson's employment already on the show I'll say that that shams tweet that announced that LeBron was going to the Philadelphia 76ers really all but closes the Cavaliers Championship window.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_02]: How about that?
- 33:47[SPEAKER_02]: Because now you've got another team in this Eastern Conference that's improved.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody was looking at the West last year and said, man, how do you get past San Antonio?
- 33:58[SPEAKER_02]: How do you get past New York?
- 34:00[SPEAKER_02]: But this is now a team that you've gotten Filly that has Tyreys Maxi, Jalen Brown, Joe L. M. B. and now you're adding LeBron to that Nick Nurse has won before.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_02]: He thinks that's their best chance to win and that's with the next team in this East that swept the cabs and the cabs got worse this off season That's with the rafters who might have quiet the pistons are gonna have another year of that internal development that you're talking about right The magic have another year of that internal development that you talk about right the Celtics still have Tatum I'm concerned pencil me down is concerned
- 34:36[SPEAKER_02]: You know, another thing that we've heard before, no, because I thought he was coming back.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_02]: I thought I had the greatest player of all time coming back.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_02]: I was against her.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_00]: He's been put in together this documentary in the background, too, right?
- 34:49[SPEAKER_00]: And that was one of the things a lot of people were saying at the end of the day, hey, no matter what happens, he's making this documentary.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_00]: The end of this documentary has got to be him coming back to Cleveland.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_00]: What if at the end of it?
- 35:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, obviously we know he's going to Philly now.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: What if Dean Wade was like the big Porsche, like that's what really changed things.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like out of anybody on his team, you see him go away from the cabs, go to Philly.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure that wasn't the decision, but it's just wild to me that this came out the way that it did.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm searching for answers and I don't understand how you can have a whole documentary.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_00]: and he's got filming for the last year or so and have the end of it go into Philly.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_04]: So the end of that documentary is going to be cheese steaks running up the rocky steps.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_04]: Him and Dean Wade hanging out and then go on with ice packs on his knees.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_04]: He's going to be great.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_03]: Do you guys believe, I guess let's talk about this portion of it.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_03]: Do you believe that LeBron was actually conflicted in this decision?
- 35:47[SPEAKER_03]: Because we've heard Rich Paul now talk about that.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_03]: If the nicks didn't win at all, we probably LeBron would probably have been a New York
- 35:58[SPEAKER_03]: So do we think that LeBron was really actually torn between Cleveland and Philly?
- 36:03[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like he didn't even give Cleveland a chance.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like we were probably the last on the list.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_04]: To be honest.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of have to agree with Gab Chris.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, how many times do we have to have scoop Robinson's?
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: How us on this program?
- 36:15[SPEAKER_02]: And then we would immediately get right to scoop him.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_02]: We would say, ah, whatever.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_02]: Where he said the bronze, what's waiting so long?
- 36:21[SPEAKER_02]: LeBron's waiting for somebody to make a move.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_02]: School Pest told us that for weeks and weeks and weeks, and we consistently ignored him,
- 36:30[SPEAKER_02]: We shouldn't have because Philly made their move.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_02]: It was to get Gansy and then it was to get Jalen Brown Miami made their move.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: It was to get Yannis We didn't do anything and we kind of were acting like we were the bell of the ball because of the documentary because we heard those reports Okay, maybe playing outside golf doesn't matter that much in this decision.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like Yeah, that's got a count for something
- 36:55[SPEAKER_03]: So do you think maybe, maybe if we look at it through this angle, maybe the Cavaliers weren't really ever that, that ending to us that made sense, but to Lebron, he went a different route.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's he's Ben and Cleveland won a title.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_03]: He's Ben and Miami won a title.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_03]: He's Ben in Los Angeles and won a title, maybe to him coming home and winning a fifth ring, which the end of the day still wouldn't pass Michael, didn't mean as much to winning a winning a title with a fourth franchise and that's something that Cleveland just straight up never could have offered.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: Well, here's the thing though, that now there's timber wall fans that will yell at you about that saying that, well, if that's really what it's about from a basketball fit perspective, playing with Lamello Ball and Anthony Edwards could have been a better fit for LeBron when a championship.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll sit here and we could poke holes in any of these, you know, points, any of these arguments.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_02]: The fact of the matter is the decision's been made.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_02]: He felt like the east was a spot where he could win a championship.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_02]: And at the Cavs who were four games away from getting to the NBA finals in this East, were still not the team that he picked.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_02]: Tell us everything I need to know about this upcoming basketball season.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't like like you were saying he looked at the next and he was going to be a New York Nick.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think I really think he was going to be a New York Nick.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: They go and win the championship.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_00]: So he says now I don't want to be the guy who joins the next after they get their championship.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: I want to be the guy who knocks off the nicks.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_00]: Who can I do that with?
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: And he passed over the calves and he goes to Philly.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_00]: And that tells you everything as far as the East goes right now.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_02]: Like, especially because, and we can't reiterate and repeat it enough, they had so many opportunities to do everything that Philly did.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_02]: They had opportunities to do what Miami did.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_02]: The Milwaukee Bucks wanted, mobile-y.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_02]: That was a move that could have been made.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_02]: The calves could have gotten Jalen Brown from Boston.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_02]: It was the Celtics got rid of Jalen Brown for nothing.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_02]: You could have done that with keeping Moby and Cleveland.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_02]: You could have found a way to make that trade shake.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: But because they're so obsessed to your point gab with this core group, and they felt like D.G.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_02]: was maybe the reason why Donovan, Alan, Mobley, couldn't get it done, and they went out and got James Harden.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that really helped anything either because of his postseason perception, where yeah, LeBron probably goes, hey, if I win four rings, four different organizations, that also the wins in
- 39:31[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and I've done it and I've won and all of these different places.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_02]: It would mean more than bring in another one to Cleveland It would mean more than bringing one to Miami, but the way that all of this reached from LeBron himself He feels like Philly's closer than Miami.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_02]: He feels like Philly's closer than Cleveland and he feels like he's the missing piece to get those guys over the hop in it It's
- 39:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's hard to blame him with that rationale when you've got a coach in Nick Nurs and you've got a guard in Tyre's Max use, one of the premier in the league.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, they just got Jalen Brown who won a championship a few years ago in this Eastern Conference with Boston.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_03]: Alright, we're obviously not done talking about LeBron James, but before we get to our break last question, and let's go to a more emotional human level, Gabel, start with you.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_03]: LeBron means so much to the city.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_03]: He's meant so much to the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_03]: He's meant so much to the NBA.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_03]: Is this decision going to change at all for the worst, for the better, or how you feel about LeBron James and his legacy in the NBA?
- 40:26[SPEAKER_04]: It's not really going to change my decision at all.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I'm a little disappointed that LeBron James is not going to finish his career with Cleveland Cavaliers, but I went in with a little expectation.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm really, I mean, yeah, I was shocking, Philly, but I am not going to be that upset.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_04]: I am scared, though, that people are going to start doing it.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_04]: Do you think he's going to get
- 40:39[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, we don't fool the Brown.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_04]: I wouldn't be win, but I'm saying like we have some crazy fans sometimes.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_04]: We do.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: We do.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, just based upon the social media response, there's there's some pretty big accounts in Cleveland that are ripping LeBron pretty hard right now.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I wouldn't be.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_00]: surprised if you get into an arena and he's back here, you hear a good number of booze.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I wouldn't be one of those guys.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm an old head and to win a championship at Cleveland.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: I've only seen it from LeBron.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_00]: I've only seen it in 2016.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_00]: So there's no way in hell.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm ever going to boo LeBron.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: Am I disappointed today?
- 41:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, absolutely.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_00]: I am.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_00]: But there's no way I can boo with a guy that brought us a trophy.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_04]: I would boo Kobe all men if they put him on the screen.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no doubt.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: There's a direct
- 41:23[SPEAKER_02]: That's my read on that I think right now more people are mad at the calves than they are at LeBron.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: is my read on at least and that's how I feel to agree with that I would agree with that there's still a good number of people are upset at LeBron but I think there are far more who are upset at Kobe Altman in the calves right now and that means ownership's got to make some decisions here.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care what anybody else says ownership has to make some big strategic decisions about not only this year but about the way this ship is headed because right now it looks like it's a ship to nowhere.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_03]: All right, we got to take a break, but we'll be back, Gab, thank you.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_03]: You're leaving us, we appreciate your time.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_03]: Hey LeBron, babe, what he thought was the smart choice and I don't agree, but I do know the smart choice is go over to smart choice bath.

- 42:38[SPEAKER_03]: I everybody welcome back to the Big Play Cleveland show live exclusively right here in YouTube presented by Fandoel if you're just joining us we just reacted to LeBron James joining the 76ers on a two year deal Nick we want to win and we want to cry with the
- 42:52[SPEAKER_03]: isn't afforded that opportunity.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_03]: The question now shifts to where do they go from here, Jonathan, commingo, reportedly the Cavaliers plan B.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_03]: We talked a little bit about that.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_03]: You still don't see that being a big enough move to move the Cavaliers into title contention.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_03]: Where do they go from here, Nick?
- 43:06[SPEAKER_03]: How do you avoid this emotion and go right to business if you're Kobe Altman in the Cavaliers?
- 43:11[SPEAKER_02]: it is a great question Ryan because I do think that this is one of those things and we've heard this from Brian Winhorse.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_02]: We've heard this from some some others when LeBron makes these decisions.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_02]: You don't get a ton of heads up.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: Like when LeBron was here the first time in life they didn't find out and so he was on TV.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_02]: They they start getting a call you know like minutes before they're about to ask him LeBron what is your decision that he's going to
- 43:40[SPEAKER_02]: Um, take you to 2014 when LeBron was getting ready to come back.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_02]: They had Gordon Hayward into the building.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_02]: Gordon Hayward was about to sign a big contract with the calves, and somebody from LeBron's camp called and got a hold of the front office and said, what are you doing?
- 43:55[SPEAKER_02]: He's coming home, the articles about the drop in sports illustrated.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_02]: Don't give this money to Gordon Hayward.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_02]: You're about to have a starting small forward.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: zone on the horn.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: Those guys are free agents that the cows would be able to quickly sign to contracts and get them in here.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: So you at least have some answer at your starting small forward position.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_02]: I know Gab kind of said it in just before she left.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like Max Drew's right now is Cleveland starting small forward.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_02]: That ain't good enough, like, like, especially now in this new look east, with all of these athletic wings that exist, you need to add something to this mix.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_02]: I do wonder now.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_02]: Do you pick up those conversations with a team like the New Orleans Pelicans who have Trai Murphy the third, who's a small Ford and now it might seem desperate, now it might seem like a panic move, but maybe now you call New Orleans and be like, hey, you guys have been blown us up for three or four years about Jared Allen.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_02]: We've told you no.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_02]: We need a wing though.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_02]: You could have J.A.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_02]: You could have Dennis Schroeder.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: You could have Max Struse.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go try to get train Murphy.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_02]: That's one where I'd feel a little bit more optimistic because that's at least a upper tier wing in the league, not an elite tier, but at least an upper tier three.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_02]: In the NBA right now, I don't think Kominga's enough just because he's a piece You know, he's a role player.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_02]: He's somebody that on a given night could give you a 20 points But he could also give you a four or five.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_02]: He's unknown commodity still even though he does a dress position of need for the calves
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: So I think you probably, you know, got to go through your order operations.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to see what is the free agent number on his only a comming the couple of wings that are out there in free agency.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_02]: But if you can't figure anything else out like that, you do still have these contracts.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: We're like, you can still make a move.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like you could still sign in trade harden if something presented itself.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_02]: You still could go out there and trade J.A.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_02]: and Schroeder and Stru.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you do still have a couple pieces that you could shift around to try to improve this roster a little bit more than what it is right now, but Ryan, it's going to be tough man when I look at this to not put them any higher than four, just because the next are the champs.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_02]: The Celtics have wanted championship with Tatum.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_02]: The Sixers just signed the greatest basketball player this generation and you've done nothing and the Raptors had you on the ropes and they even they got quiet back so it's going to be hard for the calves to get off the mat here.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_02]: This is a devastating day for calves fans and for the organization alike Chris I know you're not going to hold your breath but just bear with me for a second.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_03]: Is there any chance that next year the Cavaliers, they get Jonathan Kominga, let's say he turns into what a lot of people think he can, let's say, and I know this isn't a high bar, but is maybe the best for where that the caps have had since LeBron James.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_03]: With the addition of James Harden, a full offseason, mobiley, another year of development, Donovan Mitchell getting locked down to that contract, is there just any chance it could all come together on a Kenney accent, and we could be talking
- 47:36[SPEAKER_03]: how over reactionary we were at this moment?
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm not giving up hope entirely.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is a huge step back.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously we're all a prisoner at the moment.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: We just lost out on a generational player.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_00]: And somebody who we thought was coming back here, albeit later on in his age, but still a generational player.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_00]: And somebody we thought was going to be key to us taking the next step.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I think at best right now,
- 48:00[SPEAKER_00]: Even with that move with commingah, I think the best you can do is really tread water versus where we were at before.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: You're not talking about advanced, you're not talking about getting better, you're talking about treading water, and we all know in the NBA a lot of things can happen, right?
- 48:15[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen injuries, we've seen saw what happened with Indiana, we saw what happened with Boston.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_00]: these things happen.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_00]: So there are all kinds of things externally that can happen.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_00]: Internally we've talked about it for years.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_00]: I know it's almost cliche at this point, but momentarily taking another step.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_00]: We've already seen some things in the offseason.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_00]: He looks like he's put on some more muscle guys, which is up that we've asked for for a while.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I know that's also kind of getting gotten cliche with people talking about that.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_00]: But ultimately those are signs.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_00]: Those are signs that maybe he can take the next step.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, James Harden is with James Harden is at this point in his career.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_00]: Donovan Mitchell does he get pissed this off season.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_00]: Does he come back next year and go, you know what, I don't care.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_00]: This is the year by hell or high water.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to figure out a way to get this team to the next level is that's what it's going to take.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: There's not the cavalry coming right now for Donovan Mitchell.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, spiders out there, and it's going to be the talent that he's got around him right now.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: The pieces we've already lost, the pieces that may be coming in if it's coming up, but not a whole lot past that.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: So he's got to figure it out with this squad right now.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I know we talked a lot about Kobe Altman.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_00]: We talked a lot about Kenyak and sin in the failure to not land Lebron, but ultimately, we're going to have to put players out there next year.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_00]: And Donovan Mitchell is going to be the leader of those players that are on the floor.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: There's no doubt about that now.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_00]: We know the bronze not coming so he's got to take the next step.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: So back to your point Ryan for us to actually do something next year and potentially advance in the playoffs farther when we've ever gotten and dare I say when a championship I think that's still on the table.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_00]: but boy, it takes a lot both externally and internally and takes a lot more from Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobile, I'm going to put it on both of those guys to take the next steps for us to come close to that.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_02]: The calves are becoming a gigantic hypothetical organization, like if Evan Mobile continued to take the right steps.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_02]: If Donovan Mitchell can become the best player on a championship winning team, if James Harden can put his postseason woes behind him, if Kenny Akinson could put down the analytics and start coaching basketball, then maybe we would have a team that could be closer to contention in this Eastern Conference.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe then we wouldn't feel like we had to beg and cry for LeBron to come back each
- 50:36[SPEAKER_02]: I just have a really hard time believing that all of that now will be enough because you had the time for all of that.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like it's past.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like the time for that internal development where Mitchell could become the best player on a championship team for mobility to take that next step in his progression.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_02]: That was this past season because the Celtics were so injured because the nicks had so many question marks.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_02]: You're time to make that move.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_02]: was this past season but you screwed around you got James Hardin who's a serial postseason underperformer and you bowed out in the eastern conference finals in four games in uncompetitive series so I do hope
- 51:21[SPEAKER_02]: that internal development of the calves consistently preach does ring true because it kind of feels like that's there only hope.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like the only hope for Kobe Altman to be the president of basketball operations next year for Kenny Akinson to be the head coach of the calves next year.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_02]: is for all of these guys to really grow together as a group in a way that we have not seen yet.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_02]: Now maybe they made the right step in that direction because to their credit, getting to the conference finals was something that we had to ask them to do.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_02]: We said you got to get out of that second round and they did.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_02]: So the nice progression is to get out of that conference finals and to an NBA championship, but now you can't take a step backwards like this can't be monopoly where you pass go, but now you can't get set back to jail and bow out against the raptors in round one or round two get.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_02]: get upset by the magic or one of these young up-and-coming teams like the Pistons in round one because that's a step in the wrong direction, that's how people get fired, that's how teams really do get blown up even though guys I'll remind you because I have seen some of this out on the social streets as well that now the cast should just wipe their hands and blow this whole thing up, you can't.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_02]: you don't have any draft picks until 2030 when your picks finally stop going to Utah from that initial dawn of in Mitchell trade that set us on this championship timeline.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I also think that would be outstandingly dumb.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_03]: Um, it sounds silly.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_03]: So bear with me and about to use one of the biggest sports cliches there is, but
- 52:54[SPEAKER_03]: is there anything is it possible that the calves this year because of now the expectations this year certainly aren't going to be what they were the last couple of years they're you're not going to sneak up on teams right but is there something to maybe now that they don't have these expectations on them maybe they become playoff risers i know it sounds silly but we've seen it before
- 53:15[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they play loose, right?
- 53:16[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they can say, hey, now it's us against the world.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't get LeBron.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_00]: The people who are in this room are the people who are on this team right now.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_00]: And this is the team that we're going to have going forward.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_00]: And we need to rally around each other in order to be able to take any step at all.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe you catch a little bit of that.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe a catch hey, they thought everyone else in the world media are fans everybody thought we needed help We don't need help.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_00]: We got all we need right here.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe there's a little bit of that spirit But I don't know if that raw raw stuff really matters at the end of the day when you're in the playoffs So you've really got a dig deep and you just don't have it.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_00]: You got 90 year old James hard no There spider not able to shoot for whatever reason our wings can't
- 54:00[SPEAKER_00]: make a basket and, you know, everything's falling down, maybe it makes a difference, maybe it doesn't, I don't know, but hey chemistry does matter to your point chemistry does matter it would be a lot better though, I think if you had a proven commodity like LeBron James in there to to stir things up rather than what we got right now.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_02]: The NBA is a league guys where you gotta take swings.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_02]: Especially when you're close, you keep taking swings.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_02]: To that point of it would be idiotic to rebuild and blow this thing up, I agree.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_02]: But you gotta keep taking swings.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_02]: And in a sport where you're supposed to take swings, you need a baseball bat or a tennis racket or a hockey stick to take a swing, Kobe Altman brought some football gloves to this off season.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_02]: That's not what you need to take a swing.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_02]: The Sixers made their swing with Jalen Brown.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_02]: There was one executive, guys, that went on rich, Paul's mind of the game podcast.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_02]: It was Philly.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_02]: It was Philly.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_02]: They got aggressive.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_02]: They rolled up the sleeves.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_02]: They said, we're tired of the process.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_02]: We want to go.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_02]: We want to win.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_02]: The calves didn't do that.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't treat this offseason with that same urgency.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's why I'm so irritated and that's why I have such a hard time selling myself on internal development and chemistry.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's what we're gonna have to bank on because I don't know what big move that's out there for the calves to compete with Miami and Philly and Boston in New York and Toronto.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's a new look Eastern Conference.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_02]: And I do fear that they had so many opportunities to keep taking swings to stay competitive because you are so close you were so close last year
- 55:59[SPEAKER_02]: I hope that sitting on his hands was the right thing to do because you know if they do win the championship this year Like let's live in the pie in the sky in the world right and say the calves do make it out of the conference finals in just to the championship People will throw flowers to copy all men and he'll deserve them, you know, to credit him
- 56:17[SPEAKER_02]: for sticking with this crew for not getting desperate for not you know panicking and overhauling the roster, but traditionally big swings is what works in the NBA.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_02]: That's why the offseason is a bigger deal than the regular season because it sets the ground work for all of this stuff.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_03]: This is a great topic conversation.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_03]: do you think that in the way that you guys are talking and the majority of people certainly it seems like feel this way?
- 56:46[SPEAKER_03]: Is that Kobe Altman messed up free agency?
- 56:49[SPEAKER_03]: Didn't get LeBron didn't play it correctly.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_03]: But is there the chance and you're allowed to say that that's still the wrong decision?
- 56:56[SPEAKER_03]: But that what your time on Nick, he was 100% going to stick to his guns the entire time.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_02]: mistake.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_02]: mistake.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_02]: Even if it would have resulted in not getting even if LeBron was never coming back, which I've seen some of that, that maybe LeBron doesn't love Cleveland as much as we believe that LeBron loves Cleveland.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe he's a dude that's from here, and we should be thanking our lucky stars that he is from here, or else that title drought would still be going on.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_02]: because he would have never come back in 2014.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_02]: If he wasn't from here, he felt some sort of obligation to win us that championship and now he feels like it's fulfilled.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_02]: I still wouldn't feel better today if I had a Jalen Brown or if I had a Yannis because that means you're trying something.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_02]: The definition of insanity is what?
- 57:44[SPEAKER_02]: through the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like the calves are doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result in the eastern conference that's improving.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_02]: Like I would hear y'all if this eastern conference was status quo and if all of these big moves happened out West, say Yannis would have went to like the nuggets or Jalen Brown would have got traded to like the clippers.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_02]: and they kept quiet and they tried to make that work with Paul George like say all this was happening out west i wouldn't feel okay right now like okay you lost out on the brun but at least nobody else in this east was up to much anything like your competition is improving and you're asleep at the wheel is kind of how i've read this entire thing again i hope i'm wrong i hope the cabs use all of this as bolt and board material and and locker room you know come
- 58:34[SPEAKER_02]: And they could really use this as a rallying point for this coming season it's just like you you could use all the rallying stuff that you want If you don't have a good enough horse in the race, you're gonna have a hard time winning it, you know Hey Nick, you're as connected as anybody How many assurances do you think that the calves were relying on that LeBron was gonna come in?
- 58:58[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think that they were really just like the rest of us going, well, I don't know what's going to happen, but everything would make sense for him to come here, or do you think they had a certain level of confidence that he was going to come back based upon what Lebron or Lebron's people were saying?
- 59:13[SPEAKER_00]: I wonder how much of a shock this was today to them and what the percentages they would have put on?
- 59:18[SPEAKER_02]: I want to be careful how I say this because I know the silent assassins, Jack and Bailey in our social department are watching me.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think the calves had any assurance that he was foreshore coming back.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_02]: But I think they felt damn good about it.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_02]: I think they felt like they were the leader in this thing throughout it.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think they were surprised by today's new, I think that's a fair way of putting it.
- 59:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think they fell and this is based off, this is not just like my gut instinct, this is based off of conversations I've had around the time that I put out those eyeball emojis a couple of weeks ago.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_00]: They felt good at putting out and those went out.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_02]: They felt good a couple of weeks ago, but I do wonder Chris that maybe, you know, they felt good a couple of weeks ago, but was that maybe because he said, hey, you're one piece away and maybe did they have a hard time, could they think maybe they could convince Washington to do that Anthony Davis trade without moving mobly?
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_02]: Did they think they could maybe get Kyrie back with just cutting ties with James Harden, Schroeder, Struse, and some spare pieces in parts where you'd be able to keep the core intact to keep LeBron happy and to have enough death where you'd be able to get Kyrie back.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_00]: What's that the last straw was Kyrie the last straw I think that's my read on that was said no you're not getting it he doesn't want to move and that's just not happening that was the last Hail Mary that we had as soon as that played in work games over.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_00]: Is that it?
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_03]: At Chris to that point because I am breathing the Kevin O'Connell report where we're talking about he just kind of wrote about what you literally just said that Dallas didn't want to move Kyrie He was comfortable where he was that kind of puts it in perspective.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_03]: You can't say anything other than LeBron didn't view Cleveland as a championship contender.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_02]: Shams Tronius on ES Chris Shams Tronius on ESPN right now saying that this sixers were not even on LeBron's radar
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_02]: until they made the trade for jaylon brown.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_02]: So that tells me that yeah, they felt like early in those process early in this process when brown was hanging out with brand new weams.
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_02]: They were at buckets in a crane.
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_02]: They probably felt like they had a deal.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_02]: They probably felt like they were right there and they were really close.
- 1:01:47[SPEAKER_02]: But Philly got aggressive, they got Jalen Brown.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_02]: They went on Rich Paul's podcast.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_02]: Joel and Beat reached out with the recruitment pitch.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_02]: We know LeBron likes to be wanted, he wants to be liked.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_02]: They pushed their chips in and the calves didn't and he gave them like a 48 hour heads up when that Kevin O'Connor report dropped.
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, you got 24 hours.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_02]: I want Kyrie.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_02]: I want AD.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I was all day yesterday.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_02]: That's what we were kind of talking about.
- 1:02:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like how realistic is it?
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_02]: Would you make that move even though they've both had their injury concerns?
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_02]: I speak pretty fluent LeBron, and I kind of read that as, hey, Philly made some moves, Miami made some moves, I would come home, it's just there's not enough, and now we see why.
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_03]: I do, I do find it so interesting that all these breadcrumbs we're talking about.
- 1:02:45[SPEAKER_03]: lead to writing that story of there was no really other reason that LeBron didn't pick Cleveland outside of the roster.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_03]: I find that so interesting because this whole thing we talked about.
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_00]: Fred crumbs the whole time, right?
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there were no other bread crumbs.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_03]: And throughout this whole entire month, it's been about, well, it's not basketball.
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's, it's also about his family.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_03]: It's about where it is.
- 1:03:09[SPEAKER_03]: Savannah left to be and just reading all of this and putting it all together.
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_03]: You really can't make an argument that it wasn't just about the roster.
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_03]: And that makes me so curious as to what we're going to start to hear from guys like Kenny, from guys like Kobe Altman and especially from guys like Donovan Mitchell.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_03]: And like Chris, what we're talking about like does that kind of rally the group knowing that he didn't view them as that way?
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_03]: Well, if you're not even Mitchell, man, he chose to play with Jalen Brown, chose to play with Joelle and bead over you and mobile.
- 1:03:39[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't want you.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't want you.
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_03]: Who want me?
- 1:03:42[SPEAKER_03]: No one.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's your motivation, Donovan.
- 1:03:45[SPEAKER_00]: There it is.
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_00]: LeBron doesn't want you.
- 1:03:47[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't want any part of this organization.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't think you guys were good enough.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_00]: Now go out and show him he was wrong.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's what the e-dict is for this year.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's what Kenny and the boys had got a rally around.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_00]: In the front office, they got work to do.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_00]: They got to figure this thing out.
- 1:04:01[SPEAKER_00]: But for those guys on the floor, that's all you got to worry about.
- 1:04:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's, hey, everybody's doubting you.
- 1:04:07[SPEAKER_00]: Even LeBron himself said, you guys aren't good enough.
- 1:04:10[SPEAKER_00]: You guys figured out those games against Philly have got to be slugfest.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_00]: That should be a lot of fun.
- 1:04:16[SPEAKER_00]: There should be a lot of slugfest for us.
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_00]: i don't know i'm trying to i'm trying to turn a positive on this thing right now because i just like everybody else i'm just incredibly disappointed i wanted to see and and it's not just a this is the bronjames you know the guy grew up with the guy who's a generational talent didn't come here
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's the fact that as a basketball fan, you guys are like me.
- 1:04:39[SPEAKER_00]: We watch these games night in night out and for them to run back what they had last year.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_00]: Again this year, now missing a couple of parts essentially, it's like, I've seen this show.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen this show from a couple of years ago where we really rolled in the regular season.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_00]: We thought we were just going to kill it once we got to the playoffs.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_00]: We see last year where we were talking ourselves into, okay, the regular season really doesn't matter.
- 1:05:04[SPEAKER_00]: We've also got an injury or two, wait until we get to the playoffs.
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_00]: We learned from last year that the regular season really doesn't matter in the NBA.
- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's all about the playoffs.
- 1:05:13[SPEAKER_00]: You just wait.
- 1:05:14[SPEAKER_00]: wait until we get to the playoffs and then we see us fizzle out.
- 1:05:17[SPEAKER_00]: And then for us to run back that team now a third time, right, with a new James Harden and some other twist, but for the most part, excuse me, you're looking at the same engine here.
- 1:05:28[SPEAKER_00]: And till fan like me, it's like, I don't know.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen it before.
- 1:05:31[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen, I've got to see something that I can latch onto that says, hey, we're going to take that next step.
- 1:05:37[SPEAKER_03]: So Nick, what do you say to people that will say, well, and you said it yourself, they took the necessary steps, we kind of gave them these intangible guidelines, right?
- 1:05:46[SPEAKER_03]: Like it was, okay, you made it to the playoffs great.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_03]: Made it to the second round great.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_03]: We got to see make the conference finals and they've done that every year and you're gonna put my feet to the fire over just not getting a certain player that you guys wanted.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_03]: Like, is that fair or does this, or does just watching how the East change completely obliterate that argument?
- 1:06:05[SPEAKER_02]: I think we're about to find out are we not like like because right that the natural progression of a team would tell you yeah that this is a team that you know got to the playoffs with Donovan huge win remember that like Donovan's first season here like we're just happy to be back there.
- 1:06:22[SPEAKER_02]: then we were let down because of how it started, you know, when they were handled by the next lights were too bright, all that stuff.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_02]: The next year, you're able to get out of that first round just barely by the skin of your teeth in seven games against the Orlando Magic and then the other shoe drops.
- 1:06:37[SPEAKER_02]: Then you had to kind of combat some injuries with Jared Allen.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_02]: but you were able to consistently be a playoff competitor.
- 1:06:44[SPEAKER_02]: You knew this year was the year, though, where you had to get out of that second round and they did, they answered that Bell.
- 1:06:49[SPEAKER_02]: They responded, it's just now you can't take a step back.
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_02]: That's the big thing.
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, no, conference finals is the expectation because if you fail to get there and a team like Philly that just got brown, got Jalen Brown gets there.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you look dumb.
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you are bad.
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_02]: Say it seemed like Toronto gets there and you don't.
- 1:07:09[SPEAKER_02]: You look bad, you know, so that's my big thing is like, yeah, I do think there is something that's always said for internal development, all that stuff like it plays a place in sports specifically in basketball and cohesion and chemistry and
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_02]: This is really hard and full first full off season with the team and we've seen that he's been working with some of the guys a little bit already so like there is something still be said for that it's just that this is now a really new look Eastern conference like this is a Eastern conference that looks wildly different than it did this time last month even.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_02]: Isn't it wild in the east to these teams keep popping I mean Indiana right New York now you get Philly I mean I haven't even considered the Pacers are gonna be back with Haliburton Siakum they made a big move they again.
- 1:08:03[SPEAKER_02]: I keep saying you take swings they go they went and got Zubak
- 1:08:08[SPEAKER_02]: with the big man from the clippers when they realized the clippers weren't doing anything and they were going to blow that up.
- 1:08:13[SPEAKER_02]: Even though they didn't have Halley, hey, how's Halley Burton, Siakum, and Zubak sound as a 1, 2, 3 punch.
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_02]: Pacers will be decent, like...
- 1:08:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, dude, this is a new look east, and the calves are really going to have to hope similar to what they did last these off season, but the improvement on the horizon, you know, the improvement on the fringes, last year they got Larry Nance and Thomas Bryant and Lanzo Ball, and that was supposed to be their difference makers.
- 1:08:41[SPEAKER_02]: This year it's probably going to be...
- 1:08:43[SPEAKER_02]: Thomas Bryant, Mario, his own young Jonathan Kominga as the guys that you're really leaning on to be the difference makers and then you just need more on a Mitchell hard and mobly and Allen, right?
- 1:08:56[SPEAKER_03]: So a lot to ask for, but it needs to happen.
- 1:08:59[SPEAKER_03]: We're gonna take a quick break.
- 1:09:01[SPEAKER_03]: When we get back, no, we're not talking about LeBron.
- 1:09:03[SPEAKER_03]: Guys, I think we've been holding the wrong GM's feet to the fire.
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_03]: Remember last year it was all Andrew Barry.
- 1:09:08[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe it should have been the guy in Cleveland.
- 1:09:10[SPEAKER_03]: We'll
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_03]: You know, it's crazy how things can change in just a year, guys.
- 1:09:16[SPEAKER_03]: A year ago, we were talking about Andrew Barry on the hot seat.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_03]: He might be out of a job.
- 1:09:20[SPEAKER_03]: But now he seems pretty much safer than ever.
- 1:09:23[SPEAKER_03]: And there we go, talking about an hour about Kobe Altman's job security.
- 1:09:26[SPEAKER_03]: Now he said a can't get worse than Cleveland.
- 1:09:28[SPEAKER_03]: We lose out the Brown and then we have the transition to Cleveland Brown's training camp.
- 1:09:31[SPEAKER_03]: Listen, this is going to be an interesting one.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_03]: The first one under Todd Munkin.
- 1:09:35[SPEAKER_03]: Nick, why question to you between the quarterback battle, this new staff.
- 1:09:38[SPEAKER_03]: Franchise searching for plenty of answers.
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_02]: I wish it was, I'm not excited for this trading camp at all guy.
- 1:09:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not excited for this brown season at all.
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_02]: If today, if today could have gotten any worse.
- 1:09:58[SPEAKER_02]: Seeing footage of the Browns back on that field in Burilla was a way that made it worse man I'm I will say I'm longing for football Especially now that this LeBron thing is in the rear view like we'll have our reactions to this you know today We'll be back live on Big Play Cleveland YouTube's channel Monday So throw us a sub will have way more time to digest this whole LeBron thing
- 1:10:23[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be back with you on Monday, but now we're in the dog days of summer for the guards and we got Ramirez and Martina's back and that's awesome and you know, especially, you know, seeing a Jose come back and hit the ball and all that stuff, but like football is next up.
- 1:10:38[SPEAKER_02]: I just really am having a hard time getting myself and for this training camp, this brown season because I'm fearful of this quarterback competition Chris.
- 1:10:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how much more the city of Cleveland could take.
- 1:10:54[SPEAKER_02]: I really did, if anything, Todd Munkin is going to have, if it's going to be to Sean Watson as the starting quarterback here, Todd's got at least give us a month.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like we need a month break.
- 1:11:06[SPEAKER_02]: August 24th is when you're allowed to make that announcement.
- 1:11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's days like today Nick that I wish I owned some stock and maybe a liquor store in the Cleveland area between the Lebron news and then oh, we've got browns on the horizon rookies are reporting training camp.
- 1:11:24[SPEAKER_00]: You got quarterbacks and we're talking Browns quarterback competitions.
- 1:11:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's going to be a lot of people on this fine Friday.
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_00]: we're going to be resorting to the local liquor store to pick up their favorite adult beverage to drown their sorrows away of the prospects of what they might look like for the browns here for the next several months because we are.
- 1:11:44[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to be talking about quarterbacks, right?
- 1:11:47[SPEAKER_00]: We had all kinds of off-season moves.
- 1:11:49[SPEAKER_00]: You have Miles Garrett gone.
- 1:11:51[SPEAKER_00]: you know, you have Jared verse in here.
- 1:11:53[SPEAKER_00]: You've got an exciting draft class, but at the end of the day, the first thing we're going to be talking about is quarterback, because this is the NFL, and this is the Cleveland Brown.
- 1:12:01[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't have a quarterback, the NFL, you're not going anywhere, and the Browns haven't added quarterbacks in Spurney, CoSAR.
- 1:12:07[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 1:12:09[SPEAKER_00]: it's going to start and we're going to start seeing those grainy once again the grainy videos of Shader throw in the ball of Deshawn Watts and throw in the ball and we're going to evaluate it and we're all going to have these strong opinions when ultimately Nick and I'll be interested to see if this plays out and I'm sure it will.
- 1:12:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to matter.
- 1:12:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to matter who starts game one because whoever starts game one either by performance or by injury is going to be gone by game six or so.
- 1:12:36[SPEAKER_00]: And whether that shudder or whether that's to Sean Watson, I happen to believe it's going to be to Sean Watson.
- 1:12:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're going to roll him out first.
- 1:12:43[SPEAKER_00]: And then once he flames out for whatever reason, it's going to be shudder Sanders.
- 1:12:46[SPEAKER_00]: That'll give us something to get excited about for a few weeks before we do the rotation at the end of the season that we always do.
- 1:12:52[SPEAKER_00]: I am hoping, and I am hopeful, that at the end of this little project for this season, we can come out and say, OK, this is the guy we at least want to keep.
- 1:13:01[SPEAKER_00]: We think good, well enough that we want to keep them.
- 1:13:03[SPEAKER_00]: Ideally, we'd say, hey, we've got a franchise quarterback, but I don't think that's going to happen, Nick.
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to see us at least have somebody we think, okay, this is a guy who can be a guy for us.
- 1:13:14[SPEAKER_00]: And then we can go into the draft, knowing what we're going to do, that we would, at that point, still need to draft a quarterback, because you got to have a franchise quarterback.
- 1:13:21[SPEAKER_00]: But maybe you got somebody on the roster who can do something.
- 1:13:24[SPEAKER_00]: Ideally, you got your franchise quarterback.
- 1:13:26[SPEAKER_00]: I really don't see that coming out of this season, but we're going to have a lot of time to debate it.
- 1:13:30[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to be ignoring the offensive line that we've had to cobble together, and hopefully it's going to hold up for whoever that quarterback happens to be.
- 1:13:36[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to ignore the two wide receivers.
- 1:13:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really excited about Nick, concepts you own in Boston.
- 1:13:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think are going to be something special for this team.
- 1:13:44[SPEAKER_00]: Couple of young guys between that Kunchan Jenkins coming back at the running game, the tight ends that we've got right now.
- 1:13:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this team, Harold Fanon and the young guy we just drafted.
- 1:13:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
- 1:13:55[SPEAKER_00]: This team could be exciting offensively defensively miles Garrett exits.
- 1:14:01[SPEAKER_00]: We add Jared verse.
- 1:14:02[SPEAKER_00]: I really think Carson Schweschinger is going to take the next step.
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a lot of positively.
- 1:14:08[SPEAKER_00]: I know I probably haven't sold you on this team right now, Nick, but if I can come in at least a little positive about the Cleveland Browns, I feel that you should have at least a little bit of an inkling towards it.
- 1:14:17[SPEAKER_00]: Come on.
- 1:14:18[SPEAKER_02]: For the season, I am excited for certain elements.
- 1:14:23[SPEAKER_02]: I can the young players on this team continue to take steps in the right direction.
- 1:14:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's what I want to see for the Browns.
- 1:14:30[SPEAKER_02]: And I think the answer to that, outside of maybe the quarterback spot is probably yeah.
- 1:14:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like I think this offensive line could come together with Fanoet Life Tackle.
- 1:14:39[SPEAKER_02]: I think this new look receiver room with Conception Boston, Judy, obviously it's gonna depend on how the quarterback looks.
- 1:14:47[SPEAKER_02]: You should see a little bit of explosion with KC Conception.
- 1:14:50[SPEAKER_02]: I popped for him.
- 1:14:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm pumped for Denzel Boston to go up there and catch some 50-50 balls And that deep fins of line.
- 1:14:57[SPEAKER_02]: I get we lost Miles Garrett, but I'm looking forward to seeing Jared verse and Mason Graham next to each other And maybe Mike called Jr. could get a little bit more of an opportunity without Mollie Collins and Swesinger's returning Of his rookie of the year campaign.
- 1:15:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like I am very sorry
- 1:15:15[SPEAKER_02]: for all the young talents on this roster because it's a new look brownsteam like this is going to be the what the browns look like for the next couple of years with all of these young guys who are going to play very big roles Chris, I just fear that training camp, you know, over the next month, we're gonna spend so much time with the QB trackers and talking about Watson V Shouldor that what we really need to be tracking
- 1:15:42[SPEAKER_02]: Is arch manning on Saturdays and Dante more on Saturdays like I do feel like college football Saturdays Are going to take a big front seat for Browns fans?
- 1:15:53[SPEAKER_02]: Especially if we get to training camp and into the preseason and Watson is the starting quarterback
- 1:16:00[SPEAKER_02]: I want no part of Dishon Watson in the long term, and if he's the starter, that kind of signals that maybe they don't feel like they have a long term answer, and we'll probably be talking QBs around the draft this April.
- 1:16:13[SPEAKER_02]: So that's my only one apprehension is that I decided about this year because of this young talent, I just know that they don't have a great answer at the most position, and the most important position go ahead.
- 1:16:25[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:16:26[SPEAKER_00]: one more thing right before we've also got a new coach Todd Monkin right and from what we've heard with him in Switzerland as O.C.
- 1:16:33[SPEAKER_00]: they've installed some elements on this offense where as you said Nick be an out there you saw him in many camp they're they're using some motion they're doing some things that the old grounds wouldn't do
- 1:16:45[SPEAKER_00]: The that they were stagnant before the snap now they're moving the ball a little bit they're moving they're moving the players in motion before the snap which is going to help the offense over all so I see some elements of both the players that are on the field and then also the things that Todd mockens doing.
- 1:17:03[SPEAKER_00]: that we could have some positive things here.
- 1:17:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't want to totally crap on the Browns right now.
- 1:17:07[SPEAKER_00]: I know there's going to be plenty of time to do that.
- 1:17:09[SPEAKER_00]: So let's just start it off saying, hey, Todd Monkin, you're getting your opportunity here.
- 1:17:14[SPEAKER_00]: We know there's going to be a quarterback competition, but this division, there's nobody that scares me.
- 1:17:19[SPEAKER_00]: This is a team.
- 1:17:20[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they could put something together.
- 1:17:21[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they could catch a little bit of heat.
- 1:17:23[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they could do something for us.
- 1:17:25[SPEAKER_00]: Right now, I'm going to be buying on the Cleveland Browns for at least the next few weeks before we get the training camp.
- 1:17:30[SPEAKER_03]: me as well Chris this might not be the most optimistic training camp but I do think it is one of the most important in in recent years and I think I'm glad you brought up the Saturdays taking a front seat college football where obviously going to all be watching these blue chip quarterbacks.
- 1:17:45[SPEAKER_03]: So I guess my question is is there anything?
- 1:17:47[SPEAKER_03]: anything that can stop the Browns from drafting your quarterback in the first round next year, whether that be and God forbid this is my worst nightmare and I don't think Browns would ever do this, but extend to Sean Watson if he looks good, or is there anything should door can even do?
- 1:17:59[SPEAKER_03]: It can even play well enough to the point that would stop the Cleveland Browns from drafting a first round quarterback.
- 1:18:04[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm not so much asking, is it possible?
- 1:18:07[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm not so much asking, is it possible that should door complay at that level?
- 1:18:09[SPEAKER_03]: Because obviously it's possible, but more so even if he did play at that level, would that still stop the Browns from drafting a franchise
- 1:18:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think it would.
- 1:18:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think it would because if Shidorah plays that well, we're going to drop down in the draft a little bit.
- 1:18:22[SPEAKER_00]: So you're probably not going to get one of those guys that we're lying.
- 1:18:24[SPEAKER_00]: So it kind of naturally works itself out.
- 1:18:27[SPEAKER_00]: And also, if to Sean's going to be the guy, you know, you've already drafted him, you've already developed him.
- 1:18:33[SPEAKER_00]: And if he seems to be responding to Todd Monk in system, let's ride with that.
- 1:18:37[SPEAKER_00]: Let's roll with it.
- 1:18:38[SPEAKER_00]: Let's continue to add other pieces outside of quarterback.
- 1:18:41[SPEAKER_00]: Now, if you end up somehow where he plays well and has some free injuries, so he can't complete the season, so we're end up drafting at the top.
- 1:18:48[SPEAKER_00]: And you say, boy, we've got to jump on this generational quarterback.
- 1:18:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Manning just goes out there and just burns it up next season.
- 1:18:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, this is a once in a lifetime, then you're going to go and do it.
- 1:18:58[SPEAKER_00]: But if she do replace well enough,
- 1:19:02[SPEAKER_00]: to get this QB1 and be the QB1 going forward.
- 1:19:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the rope is probably pretty short with them, but I think at the end of the day, I think they honestly are really looking for whether it's somebody on the roster now or somebody forward.
- 1:19:15[SPEAKER_00]: They're still looking for that franchise quarterback and they're going to give everybody a shot with the exception of Dishon.
- 1:19:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Dishon's got as much of a shot as anybody.
- 1:19:22[SPEAKER_02]: I agree, I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I- I-
- 1:19:43[SPEAKER_02]: ready to say that this offensive line is going to be God's gift to football, but we want to give Andrew Barry his credit that he put a lot of resources into this thing.
- 1:19:52[SPEAKER_02]: They drafted the first tackle off the board.
- 1:19:54[SPEAKER_02]: They spent big money on Elton Jenkins and Zion Johnson.
- 1:19:57[SPEAKER_02]: Their first move of this off season was to trade for Titus Howard at Wright Tackle.
- 1:20:02[SPEAKER_02]: So Shador with all the sacks that he took last year, 20 plus sacks in those seven starts,
- 1:20:09[SPEAKER_02]: You know, some of the receiving issues that Shador faced last year, he was out there with Jerry Judy and a bunch of dudes.
- 1:20:16[SPEAKER_02]: Jerry Judy, Sal Canelo, was at tight end.
- 1:20:20[SPEAKER_02]: Gage Larva Dan was getting run at the end of the season.
- 1:20:23[SPEAKER_02]: And like, Conceptione is a real first round talent that's going to play in a number of phases for the Browns.
- 1:20:30[SPEAKER_02]: That's probably a punt or a turn or two.
- 1:20:32[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Denzel Boston, we haven't had a receiver his size.
- 1:20:37[SPEAKER_02]: Since Josh Gordon, and even then Denzel Boston's bigger than him, you know, Denzel Boston's a big guy that could go up there and catch it.
- 1:20:44[SPEAKER_02]: You're obviously expecting Harold Fan into continued developing, quench on truckins to continue to develop and should or show the ability to get fan in the ball.
- 1:20:53[SPEAKER_02]: He showed an ability to get Isaiah Bond the ball deep and stretch the field and I think that is kind of in line with what Todd Munkin is going to want to do.
- 1:21:02[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to want to run the football.
- 1:21:03[SPEAKER_02]: which is good because that should ease Shador to Sean whoever it is into the action, but then he's gonna want to take his chances.
- 1:21:11[SPEAKER_02]: They hired him to modernize this offense, stretch the field a bit and I personally am of the belief that Shador Sanders gives you a better opportunity to do that than to Sean Watson.
- 1:21:22[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of felt like to Sean, when he told us Chris,
- 1:21:26[SPEAKER_02]: that his objective wasn't to get back to the player that he was that led the league in passing in 2020, he just wanted to get back to being able to complete a 17 game season.
- 1:21:38[SPEAKER_02]: That kind of came across is almost like a confession to me, especially in the same press conference when he said that he hasn't been 100% since the second half of that Tennessee Titans game where he broke his
- 1:21:55[SPEAKER_02]: We're Watson was saying, look, I'm not the same dude that I was before.
- 1:21:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm probably not going to be able to get back to being that same dude.
- 1:22:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that's fine, but maybe you should or can.
- 1:22:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, both on the field and off the field.
- 1:22:08[SPEAKER_00]: I've thought for a long time that to Sean, he's kind of done with football.
- 1:22:11[SPEAKER_00]: He's playing football, that's his job, right?
- 1:22:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's going in nine to five doing what he's supposed to do.
- 1:22:17[SPEAKER_00]: At the end of the day, he wants to travel the world with his wife and kind of move on into retirement.
- 1:22:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I think in his mind, he's already done that.
- 1:22:25[SPEAKER_00]: And anybody who's an athlete will tell you, that's a bad spot to be, you know, for the team, for him, that's not the right spot to be.
- 1:22:32[SPEAKER_00]: If you're looking at competing at the highest levels.
- 1:22:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I just think that's where to Sean's at right now.
- 1:22:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Shidorah has every opportunity, like you were saying, take the reins, be able to do it, and I'll tell you another guy, right, and we're on every single Monday, you can catch us right here with Hanford Dixon, and Hanford is always talking about Taylor and Green, the guy we took out Arkansas being another guy who is on the roster right now is quarterback.
- 1:22:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I wouldn't be surprised if he's starting to gain by the end of the season, Nick, if he's not out there just for whatever reason, because it's the Cleveland Browns.
- 1:23:03[SPEAKER_00]: But he's a guy who we're looking at is a developmental candidate who might be able to play a little ball for us too.
- 1:23:08[SPEAKER_00]: So everybody's in the mix right now.
- 1:23:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think with Todd Monk and coming in, he's going to leave it pretty open.
- 1:23:14[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty close for Dishon Watson, but I think pretty open for everything else going forward.
- 1:23:18[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think Cleveland would be happy if you should or Sanders turn into a superstar but guys we do officially say goodbye to our superstar Miles Garrett.
- 1:23:26[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if you guys saw this anybody's looking for a home upgrade Nick.
- 1:23:28[SPEAKER_03]: I know you're a recent home buyer, but officially putting his Cleveland area home on the market 2.1 million miles bought this property back in 2018.
- 1:23:37[SPEAKER_03]: Guess my question to you guys Nick, I'll start with you man.
- 1:23:40[SPEAKER_03]: It's officially official.
- 1:23:41[SPEAKER_03]: How will you remember Miles Garrett's time here with the Cleveland Browns?
- 1:23:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I actually think like as time has gone on and as time is well continue to go on.
- 1:23:51[SPEAKER_02]: I think Cleveland sports history will treat Miles Garrett fondly.
- 1:23:55[SPEAKER_02]: You know, think about what we just did.
- 1:23:57[SPEAKER_02]: We just spent an hour talking about how mad we are at the cabs.
- 1:24:01[SPEAKER_02]: Not at LeBron.
- 1:24:03[SPEAKER_02]: but at the cabs because they were unable to get LeBron back.
- 1:24:06[SPEAKER_02]: Even though it was LeBron's decision to skip over us, we're mad at the cabs because LeBron was so- I was so scared just an owner of the cabs by the way.
- 1:24:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes, for how much time did this as well?
- 1:24:13[SPEAKER_00]: For how much longer, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, we
- 1:24:23[SPEAKER_02]: I think it'll, I think Cleveland sports history will treat Miles Gary finally for really what he did last year.
- 1:24:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like I think we'll have those moments where we look to like beating Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh and Miles was a part of that and even the, you know, Flacco Run and we'll point to that.
- 1:24:38[SPEAKER_02]: But I honestly think a lot of Brown Swans with Miles will point to last year with what he did and that single season sack record it was just like last year there was no hope.
- 1:24:48[SPEAKER_02]: like last year felt so dead kind of immediately out of the gate where you knew when you saw that there was no magic left in Joe Facco that we were in for a long season but haven't miles do what he did and that season long conquest to break that single season sac record it was really the only reason to tune in to Brown's games there for a little bit so I've been Cleveland Sports History will treat miles well but yeah it was crazy that he really wasted no time getting
- 1:25:18[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, are you in the market for a new house?
- 1:25:20[SPEAKER_03]: How are you going to remember Miles Garrett?
- 1:25:22[SPEAKER_00]: I was kind of surprised.
- 1:25:23[SPEAKER_00]: Were you guys surprised at how low the asking price was for his house?
- 1:25:27[SPEAKER_02]: No pool.
- 1:25:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think I saw it was 2.1 million.
- 1:25:30[SPEAKER_00]: 2.1 million.
- 1:25:31[SPEAKER_02]: No pool.
- 1:25:31[SPEAKER_02]: That hurts.
- 1:25:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:25:33[SPEAKER_02]: When you got the size of house like that, would no pool.
- 1:25:36[SPEAKER_00]: Let me tell you this.
- 1:25:37[SPEAKER_02]: Where am I supposed to swing?
- 1:25:39[SPEAKER_00]: A pool is overrated.
- 1:25:40[SPEAKER_00]: no it's just like a boat no somebody with a boat no somebody with a pool you don't want to put up with the headache of a pool trust me okay but if you're buying a 2.1 million dollar house you probably could hire somebody to take care of said pool but then you assume you got good people to hire and then you got to trust me I've been down this road Nick
- 1:25:59[SPEAKER_00]: It is a lot more difficult than what you think with a pool.
- 1:26:02[SPEAKER_00]: So actually, I like his house without a pool.
- 1:26:05[SPEAKER_00]: Give me that 2.1 million.
- 1:26:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's probably a steal for that house.
- 1:26:08[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to have to look that up after the show.
- 1:26:10[SPEAKER_00]: But no, I think people are definitely going to look back at miles positively.
- 1:26:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's going to be plenty of people remember kind of the rocky days here.
- 1:26:19[SPEAKER_00]: Him going on radio row there.
- 1:26:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:26:21[SPEAKER_00]: and ripping on the city of Cleveland.
- 1:26:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's not going to go away.
- 1:26:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's still going to be there in the background.
- 1:26:26[SPEAKER_00]: But as years fade, people are going to remember him setting the record and really being a bright light on some bad teams.
- 1:26:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think back, and old heads like me, or remember those 95 Indians and how great those teams were.
- 1:26:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Jim told me he left and there's some people who are still upset about him leaving for money, right, and saying, and famously in that press conference, saying, my wife is my rock, and there's a lot of people talking about who talked about that at the time, and how they were upset at Jim told me the way he left.
- 1:26:54[SPEAKER_00]: Same thing with Albert Bell, there was a while there when he was playing for the white socks when people were throw cash at him when he'd come back to Cleveland, right, because they said he left for money, right, just the same way Jim told me
- 1:27:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and those things have faded.
- 1:27:07[SPEAKER_00]: Those are the stories that I really don't tell my kids.
- 1:27:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I don't tell them when I talk about Albert Bell, I'm not talking about the way he left.
- 1:27:13[SPEAKER_00]: When I talk about Jim told me, I'm not talking about the way he left.
- 1:27:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking about the way he was when he was here.
- 1:27:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I have a feeling when I go to talk to my grandkids or they're talking to their kids.
- 1:27:22[SPEAKER_00]: they're going to be talking about Miles Garrett set in the record in Cleveland and all those great years that he had and really some down years for the Cleveland Brown.
- 1:27:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I think time will fade.
- 1:27:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go look up some silo some silo ads right now.
- 1:27:34[SPEAKER_00]: See if I could find that house Nick and put down a an offer for 2.1 million on his house.
- 1:27:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's got a pretty nice going to be electric at my place.
- 1:27:42[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody can come over.
- 1:27:43[SPEAKER_02]: Could I at least, can I come up, can I come work out at least?
- 1:27:46[SPEAKER_02]: It looks like it's I looked at the listing.
- 1:27:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's got a pretty nice gym in there.
- 1:27:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, now where is the house physically located what what yeah, so an a Chris I wasn't very aware of this Wadsworth Wadsworth, okay, he lives in Wadsworth.
- 1:27:59[SPEAKER_03]: He's a suburban leader, Ryan.
- 1:28:01[SPEAKER_03]: He's a Wadsworth grizzly shout out to the home of the grizzlies Now suburban league is reverest still in the suburban league.
- 1:28:09[SPEAKER_02]: They've shuffled up this suburban league They were in the suburban league when Ryan and I were at Nardongia at least they weren't so
- 1:28:15[SPEAKER_00]: because I went to repair my freshman year all the way up to the freshman year there my family lived in Bath so I I'm well aware of that but yeah what's worth I don't know quite as well but 2.1 million it all I'm gonna go look in the couches here see what I can pull out maybe can pull out a couple of bucks and put down a down payment on 2.1 million for that house let's go.
- 1:28:35[SPEAKER_03]: Well, LeBron, through a wrench in our game plan, guys, so we didn't get a talk and he Cleveland Guardians, but that doesn't mean you can't go bet on it with our great friends at Fandle.

- 1:29:48[SPEAKER_00]: We move on.
- 1:29:49[SPEAKER_00]: Now it's Guardians.
- 1:29:50[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get it done here.
- 1:29:52[SPEAKER_00]: Got a big season.
- 1:29:53[SPEAKER_00]: What do we got the Tampa Bay now for the next few?
- 1:29:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think we don't come home until the middle of next week.
- 1:30:00[SPEAKER_00]: So got to get things straight on the Guardians front now that we've got Jose back Nick.
- 1:30:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think we're going to be asking for a lot of heavy lifting out of Jose Ramirez here.
- 1:30:09[SPEAKER_00]: Right off the bat, there is no, I'm working my way back from injury.
- 1:30:13[SPEAKER_00]: We need that bat to start going.
- 1:30:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's so far we're 0 and 2 in the two games.
- 1:30:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's been back.
- 1:30:18[SPEAKER_00]: That first game he was mashing the ball.
- 1:30:20[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully he returns to form very quickly because he's going to need to lead this team if we're going to do anything now with less than what do we got?
- 1:30:27[SPEAKER_00]: 60s, 70 games left.
- 1:30:30[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we're over 100, so yeah.
- 1:30:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, less than 60 games left, which is incredible already in the baseball season.
- 1:30:35[SPEAKER_00]: So go guards, let's get rolling.
- 1:30:38[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, today's news change is up some of the debate that we always have about who's the next team in Cleveland to win a championship feels like stock on the guards.
- 1:30:49[SPEAKER_02]: Gotta be up after today's news doesn't not.
- 1:30:52[SPEAKER_02]: They're a game in a half back.
- 1:30:54[SPEAKER_02]: I believe as we currently sit from the Chicago White Sox, like you said, Chris,
- 1:30:59[SPEAKER_02]: fun one in the American League this weekend against Tampa.
- 1:31:02[SPEAKER_02]: We know they're well managed with Kevin cash down there and everything.
- 1:31:06[SPEAKER_02]: Come on, guards.
- 1:31:07[SPEAKER_02]: Give us a fun rest of this summer.
- 1:31:09[SPEAKER_02]: Let's have an October to remember because I'm not sure what this fall is going to look like with football.
- 1:31:14[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure what this basketball team is going to do come postseason.
- 1:31:18[SPEAKER_02]: How about those guardians?
- 1:31:20[SPEAKER_02]: We need the guards to give us a fun rest of the summer and really kind of recapture the heartbeat
- 1:31:28[SPEAKER_02]: right now right my parting thought I'm broken dude I'll talk to everybody on sports radio 92 3 the fan with Darrell on Sunday at 8 and I'll be back here big play Cleveland live Monday don't miss it we're gonna bring in some guests we're gonna talk about this LeBron thing in way more detail um don't miss Monday's show man
- 1:31:50[SPEAKER_03]: All right, we're out of time.
- 1:31:51[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, shout out Ash, very real quick in the chat, talking about the suburban link.
- 1:31:53[SPEAKER_03]: He says, go, Nerdonia, Knights.
- 1:31:55[SPEAKER_03]: As a program with two fellow lines.
- 1:31:57[SPEAKER_03]: Let's go.
- 1:31:58[SPEAKER_00]: We echoed that sentence.
