- 0:29Speaker 1: This is Trek Cast, the Galaxy's most Unpredictable Star Trek podcast.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Today on the show, we're going to talk about Star
- 0:39Speaker 1: Trek Generations. Plus we've got Star Trek News and your
- 0:44Speaker 1: listener feedback and now together again. It's Scott Daniel and
- 0:53Speaker 1: he's there.
- 0:53Speaker 2: He's here. He's preparing something people.
- 0:56Speaker 1: He's here. He's got a special surprise. That's rights been
- 1:00Speaker 1: working on a holiday program. We can hear with the background.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Hey, it's coming, It's coming.
- 1:08Speaker 1: So, uh, while he's working on that, I've got I
- 1:11Speaker 1: was watching the movie.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, Generations.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Yes, and uh And I told everybody in the in
- 1:17Speaker 1: the group chat, you know on Facebook. I said, you know, everybody,
- 1:20Speaker 1: grab your enterprise D. And that's exactly what I did.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Oh wow, I was watching watching the movie and it
- 1:29Speaker 1: lights up and everything. So this is the uh.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I did to show off your D on the internet.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I decided to show off my D on the internet. Yeah.
- 1:37Speaker 1: And at a certain point in the movie, at a
- 1:39Speaker 1: certain point in the movie, I had to adjust and
- 1:43Speaker 1: uh just have the saucer section.
- 1:45Speaker 2: So there you go, there you go. Yeah, I recently
- 1:51Speaker 2: posted a photo of the original Constitution class compared to
- 1:57Speaker 2: the Galaxy class on the end. Yeah, and and people
- 2:04Speaker 2: lost their crap when I put the the hashtag. It's
- 2:08Speaker 2: not the size that matters.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Because you know a lot of people, you know, our
- 2:15Speaker 1: generation grew up on next Jet. So you know, my favorite,
- 2:18Speaker 1: everybody's favorite from sort of our generation is was the
- 2:21Speaker 1: Enterprise D. But you know, the older Star Trek generation,
- 2:25Speaker 1: you know there it's the original series and.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Laying down from pipe on the internet too, you can
- 2:31Speaker 2: hear you hear it.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And uh so you know the original series that started
- 2:38Speaker 1: it all. You know, it was just three three seasons
- 2:41Speaker 1: and by all accounts, by any measurable standard, it wasn't great.
- 2:47Speaker 1: But you know, you know, back.
- 2:50Speaker 2: In the day, if you're replacing Bets, you would have
- 2:53Speaker 2: bet that Lost in Space would have been the bigger
- 2:55Speaker 2: franchise by far.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Yeah, by far. Yeah, that's not what happened. No, not
- 3:02Speaker 1: not even a little bit.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, what is what is this? Magnificent beauty? Wow?
- 3:10Speaker 2: I the hey guys, you know I.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Started doing I started doing the show from the basement
- 3:19Speaker 3: last year. It kind of solved my technical difficulties. And
- 3:22Speaker 3: we're sitting here on the pre show and I look
- 3:24Speaker 3: on the shelf in my basement and I see this
- 3:26Speaker 3: box and I realized what it is. And Daniel called
- 3:30Speaker 3: it right away, and uh, this is the banner that
- 3:33Speaker 3: we had made up a few years ago when we
- 3:36Speaker 3: went to uh Long Island.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:41Speaker 3: So you don't see it too well. You don't see
- 3:46Speaker 3: it too well in the background, but I like it.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Maybe for next week I can hang it or something.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yeah, a little better.
- 3:55Speaker 2: That's great.
- 3:56Speaker 3: So that was the ruckus you heard right.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It's working out. It's there.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Great, Yeah, good pot.
- 4:08Speaker 3: I only dropped pieces and they're rolling all over the
- 4:11Speaker 3: floor and you guys are trying to act natural.
- 4:13Speaker 2: But whatever, it's fine.
- 4:16Speaker 3: I think anyone who's anyone who's disappointed, this is their
- 4:20Speaker 3: first time watching this show.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I was gonna say, if something something like that is
- 4:24Speaker 1: going to drive our audience members away, they would have
- 4:26Speaker 1: been gone a long time ago.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no doubt. He even Jasmine says nice. Yeah,
- 4:33Speaker 2: it says, hey, I remember that banner. There you go.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I don't remember that banner because I was not there.
- 4:39Speaker 2: You were not there.
- 4:40Speaker 3: You were on I think you were on your fourth vacation.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I was at my fourth vacation that week that year, yeah,
- 4:46Speaker 1: that year. Yeah, yeah, I just watched that video of
- 4:56Speaker 1: what I when I was on the cruise and you
- 4:58Speaker 1: guys did the show and I happen to have dec
- 5:00Speaker 1: Wi Fi and I called into the show and that
- 5:04Speaker 1: I I did this little skit where I'm like Cabata
- 5:07Speaker 1: boy and my my son comes over and hands camera.
- 5:11Speaker 1: That was a lot of fun.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Is that a map of the States? Is dang going
- 5:17Speaker 2: to be taking over? Yes?
- 5:19Speaker 3: Yes?
- 5:19Speaker 2: Really last week?
- 5:21Speaker 3: Last week? That's Those are all the the missile silos.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Those are all those all them nice? So how's everybody doing? Good?
- 5:31Speaker 2: Good?
- 5:33Speaker 3: You know, it's uh, the kids are all sick. So
- 5:35Speaker 3: they missed half the week of school. They missed the
- 5:39Speaker 3: first round of Uh, they missed the first round of
- 5:42Speaker 3: like like Halloween celebrations around town, the trunk re treats
- 5:48Speaker 3: and all that, and you know, I'm disappointed for them,
- 5:51Speaker 3: also disappointed for me. You know, I got this five
- 5:53Speaker 3: hundred dollars proton pack I purchased a few years ago,
- 5:56Speaker 3: and I have a limited amount of opportunities to wear
- 5:59Speaker 3: that around. Yeah, I mean technically I could wear it
- 6:04Speaker 3: any day anywhere. You know, you know, you show up
- 6:10Speaker 3: wearing that march somewhere and you kind of looked as
- 6:13Speaker 3: a lunatic.
- 6:14Speaker 1: So well, you know, we've got We've got there's the
- 6:19Speaker 1: cons there's we've got like Kalns out ceremonies where the
- 6:22Speaker 1: Ghostbusters show up. We've got callums of Ghostbusters show up
- 6:25Speaker 1: to different like charity events and stuff like that, and
- 6:28Speaker 1: you know, children's whatevers and stuff. So so you're not
- 6:32Speaker 1: getting too old, Dan, because you know, in the in
- 6:36Speaker 1: the in the last couple of movies, I mean, the
- 6:38Speaker 1: the geriatric Ghostbusters did show up with the proton packs
- 6:42Speaker 1: on their back, So can transition into that.
- 6:44Speaker 3: You know, my neighbor, my neighbor Reid is also a fan,
- 6:49Speaker 3: and uh he's been talking about joining the Hudson Valley Ghostbusters.
- 6:54Speaker 2: And I think, okay, I think.
- 6:56Speaker 3: He wants me to join with him, So I'm I'm
- 6:59Speaker 3: considered it. We'll see.
- 7:01Speaker 2: You know, some people joined the Eggs Clubs and join
- 7:04Speaker 2: the VFW. You guys are gonna go for the Ghastbusters.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Ghostbusters and Starfleet International.
- 7:16Speaker 1: The guys at Starfleet International and the guys at Ghostbusters
- 7:19Speaker 1: all around my town. They always show up to all
- 7:21Speaker 1: the you know, like I said, the Town's out stuff
- 7:24Speaker 1: and the the Children's hospital stuff and all that kind
- 7:27Speaker 1: of stuff.
- 7:27Speaker 2: So I just realized, when when you know, you know,
- 7:31Speaker 2: after a long life and Scott goes, you're gonna get
- 7:33Speaker 2: like the Patriot Guard and the Ghostbusters and some sort
- 7:37Speaker 2: of like Starfleet Group. It's gonna be the craziest.
- 7:42Speaker 1: My memorial service is gonna be so eclectic.
- 7:48Speaker 2: It's gonna be awesome.
- 7:50Speaker 1: So many uniforms, bikers with Secret Guard best and Ghostbusters?
- 7:55Speaker 3: Is this comic Con?
- 8:01Speaker 1: Oh? That's does I want my funeral to be comic
- 8:04Speaker 1: con themed?
- 8:08Speaker 2: It's amazing.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Scott, just know, just know when that day comes, uh,
- 8:15Speaker 3: Daniel and I will be there, unless, of course we're
- 8:18Speaker 3: on our third vacation.
- 8:19Speaker 2: That's right, or a drek long island.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Oh boy, oh god.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Uh so, well, let's let's get into the news. I
- 8:33Speaker 2: guess on that note, let's do that all right. So
- 8:42Speaker 2: our first news story, I don't know why it was
- 8:44Speaker 2: supposed to hear, but this is where I got it from. Uh, Dan,
- 8:48Speaker 2: I'm sure you're familiar with this publication, The Niagara Frontier Publications.
- 8:53Speaker 1: SUREM subscription Actually.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Yeah, as as do we all. They have posted as
- 9:01Speaker 2: long as a lot of other places. But we finally
- 9:04Speaker 2: have the horrific prophecy apparently of wind Star Trek Academy
- 9:09Speaker 2: will be released upon the world. And actually, now that
- 9:14Speaker 2: you know, I didn't want to make a graph like
- 9:16Speaker 2: a hole on stinger graphic for Star Trek Academy, but
- 9:21Speaker 2: I felt it needed something. And so now whenever we
- 9:24Speaker 2: talk about the school, we have this.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yeah, but.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Well, yeah, so it is. It is a lightning sound
- 9:39Speaker 2: followed by a wolf howl followed by an evil laugh
- 9:43Speaker 2: for the dark prophecy of Start Trink Academy.
- 9:46Speaker 3: So for those who don't know, something's up my setup
- 9:49Speaker 3: and I can't hear any of these sound effects.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's unfortunate because they're great.
- 9:56Speaker 3: So you guys at home, you will. You will hear
- 9:58Speaker 3: the sound effect and then you will hear a description
- 10:01Speaker 3: of this because because at Trek Cast we we we
- 10:08Speaker 3: take care of the the impaired. You know, if you
- 10:11Speaker 3: uh a pair hearing compair, do you feel good?
- 10:17Speaker 2: So what the I don't know, just clicking buttons anyways,
- 10:24Speaker 2: So Star Trek Academy will be released on Paramount Plus
- 10:28Speaker 2: January fifteenth. I have also read that there is going
- 10:31Speaker 2: to be a two episode premiere, so in case you
- 10:35Speaker 2: can't get enough for getting two episodes back to back.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Get it over.
- 10:41Speaker 2: That's right. The amount of articles I have read where
- 10:48Speaker 2: we're even just normal people, not like hardcore Star Trek fans,
- 10:52Speaker 2: but like publications like I think it was on IGN.
- 10:55Speaker 2: There was one on Collier talking about you can tell
- 10:58Speaker 2: that Paramount is not even confident in this show either, Like, uh,
- 11:07Speaker 2: the the actress that plays Tilly, she was originally contracted
- 11:10Speaker 2: I guess to play Tilly in multiple episodes and they
- 11:13Speaker 2: reduced her down to just one episode. And what they
- 11:17Speaker 2: were saying in the articles is that like basically, they
- 11:20Speaker 2: don't want to associate Discovery with Star Trek Academy. That's how.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Yeah, why why do it in this era?
- 11:32Speaker 1: That? But but so they don't want they don't want
- 11:37Speaker 1: something as bad as Discovery to be associated with this.
- 11:42Speaker 2: That's that is what these are reports are saying, Yeah,
- 11:49Speaker 2: we shall see.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Here's the thing. Yeah, for years, for years they've been
- 11:55Speaker 3: telling us how great Discovery is. It isn't okay, And
- 12:01Speaker 3: I think it's a case of they know that this
- 12:05Speaker 3: is going to be a train wreck, and they don't
- 12:07Speaker 3: want to have to justify it further, so they're trying to.
- 12:12Speaker 3: I think that's why they're trying to. They're tired of
- 12:15Speaker 3: lying to.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Us, right. I want one of our fans out there
- 12:19Speaker 1: to do an AI of Donald Trump saying how wonderful
- 12:23Speaker 1: Discovery is and how great it is.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Okay, hear me out here, hear me out here. Okay.
- 12:29Speaker 2: They they think Discovery was great and we didn't like it, right,
- 12:34Speaker 2: And let's say, in theory, they're not confident about this one.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Maybe this one's great and they don't realize it because
- 12:42Speaker 2: they're like, Discovery was amazing, and I don't know, it
- 12:46Speaker 2: could be I'm hoping. I'm hoping it could.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Be because you know, even a blind, narrow blind squirrel
- 12:52Speaker 1: finds a nut every once in a while. So, yeah,
- 12:54Speaker 1: you know, this could be great. This could this could
- 12:56Speaker 1: be Discovery. Something we liked Stranger World season one, Yeah,
- 13:03Speaker 1: you know, and they're just not advertising it right, They're
- 13:07Speaker 1: not promoting it correctly. They're not showing us the good
- 13:09Speaker 1: bits in the preview, you know.
- 13:12Speaker 2: And yeah, so hopefully it's great, you know, cautiously optimistic,
- 13:17Speaker 2: but you know, until then, I've got the sound effect
- 13:20Speaker 2: for the school. I just wanted a spooky sound so
- 13:30Speaker 2: for Dan, Dan only that's right.
- 13:34Speaker 1: We heard we heard a thunderstorm followed by with a
- 13:38Speaker 1: wolf cry. You know. And maybe I'm wrong about Paul Giamatti.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Maybe I'm gonna become a huge Paul Giamatti fan after this.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Maybe he's just gonna it's gonna rock my world. Maybe
- 13:53Speaker 1: maybe I want otherwise, how many episodes.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Is this going to be like routine? Probably something like that.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Okay, that's that's gonna be a long eight or thirteen episodes.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Of it's gonna be a long road from getting from
- 14:05Speaker 2: there to hear.
- 14:09Speaker 1: So I recommend, I don't know if I can do,
- 14:13Speaker 1: goes to his psychiatrist now and get the proper medications
- 14:18Speaker 1: for for the upcoming Trek Cast episode.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Well, we'll have to get a better help sponsorship so
- 14:22Speaker 2: we can send Dan to the therapy after after watching it.
- 14:31Speaker 1: All right, medications, that's right, that's right.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Our next new story comes from from Yahoo Entertainment, and
- 14:38Speaker 2: a star Trek star admits he was really frightened to
- 14:40Speaker 2: play his iconic role. We're talking about Ethan Peck and
- 14:45Speaker 2: he's talking about getting cast as Spock. This was in
- 14:48Speaker 2: a recent interview in Entertainment Tonight where he talked a
- 14:51Speaker 2: little bit about being very intimidated to play Spot, that
- 14:55Speaker 2: he didn't know about it until late into the callbacks session.
- 14:59Speaker 2: I think he's said it was like the second or
- 15:00Speaker 2: third round that he finally realized, oh, I'm gonna be
- 15:03Speaker 2: playing Spot if I get this, And he was very
- 15:07Speaker 2: very intimidated by the prospect, but he decided, you know, hey,
- 15:12Speaker 2: it's a good challenge. I'm gonna go for it. And so,
- 15:15Speaker 2: you know, he's taken it on since it's a fun interview.
- 15:22Speaker 2: You know, it's a light newsweek. So yeah, yeah, our
- 15:30Speaker 2: next story comes to us from let's see Den of Geeks.
- 15:34Speaker 2: This one, I thought, I really wanted to get your
- 15:36Speaker 2: guys' thoughts on this. It seemed like a cool idea
- 15:40Speaker 2: to me. But apparently we almost got Evil Kirk on
- 15:44Speaker 2: Star Trek Enterprise. Yeah. So apparently it just came down
- 15:53Speaker 2: to money. Grandpa wanted a little bit more Cheddar and
- 15:56Speaker 2: the network wasn't willing to kick it. But yeah, we
- 15:58Speaker 2: almost got uh Dark Universe or Mirror Universe Kurt showing
- 16:03Speaker 2: up to face Archer dandy. I guess you know a
- 16:07Speaker 2: little bit about this.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I know. For years there was talk of getting
- 16:10Speaker 3: him on there in any way that they could. This
- 16:12Speaker 3: was this was one of the options that was discussed.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Uh.
- 16:16Speaker 3: The other option was he was gonna be chef. Remember
- 16:20Speaker 3: how you never saw oh yeah, yea, yeah yeah on
- 16:22Speaker 3: that show. Yeah, until it turned out to be William Riker, right,
- 16:27Speaker 3: but yeah, this was this was one of the other options.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Will Riker over will Shattner any day.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Good to know.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Hey, I'm just I'm just a Riker fan.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Hey, you got your wills? I get it, I get it.
- 16:42Speaker 2: All right. Well, I just thought that was a fun story.
- 16:44Speaker 2: So yeah. And then our last little bit for our
- 16:48Speaker 2: UK listeners, which oh yeah, there he is. There, there's
- 16:54Speaker 2: will for our UK listeners. The first season of Strange
- 16:58Speaker 2: New Worlds is now streaming for free in the UK.
- 17:02Speaker 2: It is on I t v X. I guess that's
- 17:07Speaker 2: the streaming service over there. I'm not familiar with it,
- 17:09Speaker 2: but uh, yeah it is. The first season is available
- 17:13Speaker 2: on the ad supported tiers, so you can oh, oh,
- 17:17Speaker 2: what is that Farani doing?
- 17:20Speaker 3: Well, grab it stuff off the shelf, right, Okay, fair enough?
- 17:27Speaker 3: This is this is my You know why I love this.
- 17:30Speaker 3: This is my FARRANGI piggy bank because you are never
- 17:36Speaker 3: too young to learn about fiscal responsibility.
- 17:39Speaker 2: That's right, that's right. A waiting game Morning Jets loving
- 17:45Speaker 2: the school Stinger. That show is going to be.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Ass Hey, I've got something for your piggy bank, Dan,
- 17:55Speaker 1: you do? What do you got? I got a piece
- 17:57Speaker 1: of gold press latinum?
- 17:59Speaker 3: Oh my address.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I got. I got this at the Capital City Comic con.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Okay is it?
- 18:09Speaker 1: What?
- 18:09Speaker 3: Is it three D printed? Is it cast?
- 18:11Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 18:11Speaker 1: It does look like it's three D printed? Okay, Yeah,
- 18:14Speaker 1: they were handing them out, the weather person, Katie, she
- 18:17Speaker 1: was handing them out when she was doing the Oh yeah, so.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Somewhere a shopping list when you go to the convention,
- 18:26Speaker 2: right right, Yeah, somewhere.
- 18:27Speaker 3: I have a I have a key chain from Star
- 18:29Speaker 3: Trek the Experience, and it's a it's a strip of latinum,
- 18:33Speaker 3: but it's like real metal, so it's it's heavy and
- 18:37Speaker 3: the way they you know, are meant to. But I
- 18:42Speaker 3: was wanted I just wanted to get like fifty of
- 18:44Speaker 3: them and cut the key chain off and just.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I've been wanting to get a mobile emitter and then
- 18:53Speaker 2: wear it at a convention and say that I am
- 18:56Speaker 2: cause playing as the hologram version of me.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Yeah you yeah, yeah. I have seen some pretty good
- 19:04Speaker 1: mobile emitters at at the Starfleet International booth. You got
- 19:08Speaker 1: a three D printed mobile emitter that that's really good.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Yeah, there's someone etsy to like all painted up and
- 19:13Speaker 2: look back.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Yeah, we're actually speaking of three D printers. We're actually
- 19:17Speaker 1: thinking about a three D printer as like a Christmas
- 19:20Speaker 1: a family, like nice family. So I went I started
- 19:25Speaker 1: to do my research.
- 19:26Speaker 3: I went to a big flea market last weekend. Oh yeah,
- 19:30Speaker 3: it's it's one that I used to go to, excuse me,
- 19:34Speaker 3: across the river from here in the county I used
- 19:36Speaker 3: to live in and I used to go to it
- 19:39Speaker 3: quite a bit, and it's it's huge. It's it's done
- 19:42Speaker 3: at an old airport, so they have just big, wide
- 19:45Speaker 3: open uh space. And I haven't been to it in
- 19:49Speaker 3: about ten years, and the amount of booths that were
- 19:52Speaker 3: selling three D printed chachi's was just.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy. Yeah, that is taking over those places.
- 20:03Speaker 1: They do a lot of that kind of stuff at
- 20:05Speaker 1: comic cons at the booths, but it's it's theme towards
- 20:10Speaker 1: you know, we've actually bought a couple of things, you know,
- 20:12Speaker 1: like articulable like dragons and stuff like that, and and
- 20:18Speaker 1: they've given away they like Starve Starfleet International. They printed
- 20:22Speaker 1: out the guys that at the COMSA and I can't
- 20:26Speaker 1: think of all the ships right now, but they printed
- 20:28Speaker 1: out some little, uh little figurines to give away if
- 20:31Speaker 1: you donated, you know, to their cause. So yeah, it'd
- 20:36Speaker 1: be cool to just yeah, I can imagine as soon
- 20:39Speaker 1: as I get it, you know, and bye by January first,
- 20:42Speaker 1: I'm just gonna have com badges and track quarders and figurines.
- 20:46Speaker 1: And I would.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Recommend, I would before you get it, I would recommend
- 20:52Speaker 2: going to your local library because most of them do
- 20:55Speaker 2: have three D printers and classes on how to use it.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Oh okay, yeah, and they're all free.
- 21:01Speaker 1: And yeah, that's a great idea. So looking at you said,
- 21:06Speaker 1: go to the local what now, right? Right?
- 21:08Speaker 2: The the bookstore that you don't have to buy books.
- 21:11Speaker 2: It's really weird.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Yeah, my my grandfather used to tell me stories about.
- 21:14Speaker 3: That, the taxpayer funded bookstore.
- 21:18Speaker 2: That's right, that's right.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Not free. Nothing's free, nothing free.
- 21:22Speaker 2: So yeah, it is nice that road. Not free, that's right,
- 21:31Speaker 2: that's right.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Did you guys have a bookmobile? Hell yeah, back in
- 21:35Speaker 1: the day bus okay, a bus that went around the neighborhood.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Actually, we have one still here because there's so many
- 21:42Speaker 2: rural communities all over the place. Oh well, they do
- 21:46Speaker 2: have a bookmobile. But yeah, every now and then you
- 21:49Speaker 2: see it on the roads.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Okay, well, welcome to nostalgia cast.
- 21:54Speaker 2: That's right, that's right. Shall we a waiting game so
- 21:59Speaker 2: you can't three D print that phaser rifle here?
- 22:05Speaker 3: Yeah, someone someone's gonna call the ATF on you. Yeah, yeah,
- 22:10Speaker 3: phaser rifles.
- 22:11Speaker 2: There you go, there you go. All right, Well, should
- 22:14Speaker 2: we get to our main topic on that note?
- 22:16Speaker 1: Sure?
- 22:17Speaker 2: Yeah, fun will now comment.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I always make the joke because I bring my little
- 22:26Speaker 1: tidy type one phaser with me every place I go,
- 22:28Speaker 1: especially like to Chicago because they have really strict gun
- 22:32Speaker 1: laws there. Oh yeah, yeah, well at least I've concealed
- 22:34Speaker 1: carrying this. It's a little tidy type one phaser.
- 22:37Speaker 2: There you go, there you go. That's funny.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Oh, why yeah, that's that's what I bring.
- 22:44Speaker 1: A phaser.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, it's just a phaser. Don't worry about it.
- 22:47Speaker 3: It's just a praser.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just a phase. I mean paser. No, we
- 22:53Speaker 2: are reviewing the Star Trek Generations. This is from nineteen
- 22:56Speaker 2: ninety four. Hold were you guys in nineteen ninety four.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, about that age I was. I was a teenager.
- 23:06Speaker 3: I was. I was a senior in high school. And
- 23:10Speaker 3: you just said this came out in November nineteen ninety four,
- 23:12Speaker 3: so it was during the school year. And this was
- 23:16Speaker 3: the first time I went to a midnight showing of
- 23:21Speaker 3: a movie on a school so I went. I went
- 23:25Speaker 3: Thursday night to be there at twelve oh one when
- 23:28Speaker 3: the movie started. So you know, it was me and
- 23:32Speaker 3: my my friend Eric, and we got out at like
- 23:35Speaker 3: two thirty in the morning, and I remember I dropped
- 23:38Speaker 3: him off at his house. I'm like, all right, man,
- 23:40Speaker 3: I'll pick up for school in like four hours. I
- 23:44Speaker 3: went to sleep for a couple of hours, got up, showered,
- 23:47Speaker 3: and picked them up and went to school.
- 23:50Speaker 1: So that there is you must say. It was as
- 23:52Speaker 1: popular as me as I in high school.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I didn't go to the movie alone.
- 23:59Speaker 2: So yeah, oh man.
- 24:07Speaker 1: So you know this, there's a ton of there's a
- 24:11Speaker 1: ton of stuff on this movie. I don't even know
- 24:12Speaker 1: where you want.
- 24:12Speaker 2: To start, Daniel, I feel like we don't need to
- 24:16Speaker 2: like do a recap of the movie, like people everybody, Yeah,
- 24:19Speaker 2: so we can just kind of get into our thoughts
- 24:21Speaker 2: on it. I will say this, I feel rewatching it.
- 24:25Speaker 2: It's been a long time since I've seen it, so,
- 24:28Speaker 2: you know, rewatching it, I kind of felt like I
- 24:29Speaker 2: was watching it with fresh eyes in a lot of ways,
- 24:32Speaker 2: and I forgot how clunky this movie is. Like some
- 24:36Speaker 2: parts flow really well and feel good. Other parts do not.
- 24:41Speaker 2: They feel shoehorned in or they feel out of place,
- 24:45Speaker 2: and it's it's bad and sad because like you had
- 24:51Speaker 2: such the good makings to do something amazing, and it
- 24:54Speaker 2: felt like they just put together halfway ideas of an
- 24:59Speaker 2: episode and you know, kind of like patchworked it and
- 25:02Speaker 2: made it a movie.
- 25:04Speaker 3: And if you know the history of how this movie
- 25:07Speaker 3: was written, yeah, that's exactly what happened. So apparently I
- 25:11Speaker 3: think it was Ron Moore. I think it was Ron
- 25:13Speaker 3: Moore that wrote this.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Okay, yeah he's writing credited. Yeah yeah.
- 25:18Speaker 3: And it was like Ron, come on in here and
- 25:21Speaker 3: he sits down and they tell him we want you
- 25:23Speaker 3: to write the next Star Trek movie. And he's like cool.
- 25:27Speaker 3: They said, all right, it's a TOS movie, it's also
- 25:31Speaker 3: a TG movie. So here's the criteria. You gotta have
- 25:34Speaker 3: Captain Kirk in there. You gotta have Captain Picard in there.
- 25:39Speaker 3: They have to meet each other. We're going to destroy
- 25:42Speaker 3: the enterprise. D Data gets emotions, and we want Klingons
- 25:47Speaker 3: in there too. Go write this movie. Oh and you
- 25:50Speaker 3: got what be Goldberg too? That was that was literally
- 25:54Speaker 3: what what happened. So knowing that, I think he did
- 26:01Speaker 3: a pretty good job sewing those things together and making
- 26:06Speaker 3: a movie. But but yes, it is clunky. It is
- 26:12Speaker 3: absolutely clunky. And you're also canna remember, like it was
- 26:18Speaker 3: less than a year I think since TG went off
- 26:22Speaker 3: the air, right, so that show, that show was fresh
- 26:28Speaker 3: in everyone's minds. That show was the highest rated show
- 26:32Speaker 3: in syndication at the time that it went off the air.
- 26:37Speaker 3: The finale of that show, I don't think it got
- 26:41Speaker 3: mash finale numbers, but it was. It was watched by
- 26:46Speaker 3: a gazillion people. So, you know, TOS went off the
- 26:49Speaker 3: air and it was ten or so years, twelve years
- 26:53Speaker 3: or whatever until the movie came out. You know, the
- 26:56Speaker 3: motion picture came out, and the motion picture looks different
- 27:00Speaker 3: than TOS. But everybody kind of expected that it had
- 27:03Speaker 3: been it had been ten years. This was like ten months,
- 27:08Speaker 3: so it was kind of jarring. I'm rewatching it this morning,
- 27:11Speaker 3: and I didn't watch the whole thing, but the TOS
- 27:15Speaker 3: movie scenes at the beginning look like, look like the
- 27:19Speaker 3: Undiscovered Country. Yeah, it looks it looks yeah, flows perfectly.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Then we transition to the tng Era and we're on
- 27:31Speaker 3: the holidack at first, so it's okay that it doesn't
- 27:33Speaker 3: look exactly like what we remember. But when they transitioned
- 27:37Speaker 3: to the interior scenes on the Enterprise, it's like, what
- 27:41Speaker 3: the hell are we looking at here?
- 27:43Speaker 1: All of them because it was so dark.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Yep.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Yeah, all of the lighting.
- 27:48Speaker 3: All of the lighting is different. Uh yep. The combadges
- 27:53Speaker 3: are different. The uniforms are a mixture between Deep Space
- 27:57Speaker 3: nine and tng uniforms, which there's a backstory to that too.
- 28:00Speaker 3: They completely redesigned the uniforms for this movie, and at
- 28:06Speaker 3: the last minute they scrapped them because they looked like shit,
- 28:10Speaker 3: and there's very few pictures and video of those uniforms.
- 28:17Speaker 3: One one place they did survive if you look at
- 28:20Speaker 3: the toys for this Uh, for this line, they had
- 28:25Speaker 3: already sculpted the toys, so the toys are the new
- 28:29Speaker 3: the new scrapped uniforms. So if you take a look
- 28:32Speaker 3: at them, you can see they have they have the
- 28:34Speaker 3: rank on the on the sleeves, they have kind of
- 28:39Speaker 3: like an opening thing on the chest, like the like
- 28:43Speaker 3: the TOS movie uniforms.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Did Napoleon?
- 28:46Speaker 3: Yeah, what's that?
- 28:47Speaker 2: Like Napoleon with the yes yeah.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Yes, So you know, there was a lot going on
- 28:54Speaker 3: with the making of this movie that did make it clunk.
- 28:59Speaker 3: I mean even the uniform that the DS nine uniforms,
- 29:02Speaker 3: they borrowed those from the Deep Space nine props to
- 29:05Speaker 3: the part right, so you know, Riker is wearing Cisco's uniform, right,
- 29:11Speaker 3: Georgia sleeves were too short, yep, yep, yep, So they
- 29:16Speaker 3: did the whole I'm gonna roll up the I'm going
- 29:18Speaker 3: to roll up the sleeves like like O'Brien does sometimes
- 29:21Speaker 3: to make it look good.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Quite right, Yeah, wild Bill seventeen oh one says the
- 29:28Speaker 2: Redesign uniform is the basis for the lower Decks.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Uniform that tracks.
- 29:33Speaker 3: Yeah, that tracks, Yeah, looks similar.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Yeah. I pulled up the Rotten Tomatoes scores. So according
- 29:41Speaker 2: to the critics forty eight percent. According to the fans
- 29:44Speaker 2: fifty so not necessarily beloved but did make money. Had
- 29:52Speaker 2: a budget of thirty five million, made one hundred and eighteen.
- 29:55Speaker 1: So you can't make a low budget porn for thirty
- 29:59Speaker 1: five million dollars today.
- 30:01Speaker 2: I mean you can't.
- 30:03Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not anyway, I'm not any means.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Scott, please enlighten us with your.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Yes as your mom watches the show.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I've crunched the numbers I've got.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Oh, you crunched something.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Vigorous there, you know? No, no, you know, maybe if
- 30:25Speaker 1: I only use this version of the d maybe maybe. Man.
- 30:30Speaker 5: The one thing that is always one thing that has
- 30:35Speaker 5: always bothered me about this movie is the presence of
- 30:40Speaker 5: Tim Ross on the bridge of the Enterprise B Yeah,
- 30:46Speaker 5: playing playing, not Tuvac.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:51Speaker 1: I have made up so many stories in my head
- 30:54Speaker 1: about how he could be Tuvac with rounded ears, and
- 30:59Speaker 1: the best that came up with is he just came
- 31:02Speaker 1: back from an away mission where he had to have
- 31:05Speaker 1: his ear surgically altered.
- 31:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
- 31:08Speaker 1: The only other problem with that is he he's a
- 31:11Speaker 1: little bit more emotional on the bridge of the enterprise.
- 31:14Speaker 1: B He's he's a little bit excited, and.
- 31:17Speaker 3: His hairlines is just a touch. Is he's got a
- 31:20Speaker 3: human airline rather than a vulcan caroline.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Again away, you know, they just came back from an
- 31:26Speaker 1: away mission where he had to pass this human.
- 31:28Speaker 3: I feel like, I mean, when did Voyager come out?
- 31:31Speaker 3: When did Voyager? P?
- 31:32Speaker 1: Twenty five?
- 31:34Speaker 3: Yeah, so that was this That was like I think
- 31:37Speaker 3: it was like winter nineteen ninety five and this came
- 31:40Speaker 3: out in full nineteen ninety four. How did they not
- 31:43Speaker 3: know that this guy is playing this other role?
- 31:46Speaker 2: Oh, they knew, they just didn't care. Yeah.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Well, this part of me that feels like if if
- 31:53Speaker 3: if George Lucas can go back and and make Grido
- 31:57Speaker 3: shoot first, then they should go back, and they should
- 32:00Speaker 3: go back and make this guy too.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Box.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Just do it, Just do it, just do it.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Do it.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Sure, there's probably a book out there somewhere where, Oh,
- 32:09Speaker 1: I guarantee Bok is talking about is I'm maybe the
- 32:13Speaker 1: idea of him coming back from a mission, you know,
- 32:15Speaker 1: having just been surgically altered as a human. That's probably
- 32:18Speaker 1: been done.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure it's in a book, a video game,
- 32:23Speaker 2: comic book, something.
- 32:24Speaker 1: You know, I've got a question, and I I never
- 32:27Speaker 1: had this platform before. Oh go, I've got I've got
- 32:32Speaker 1: a question for the fans to help me out with.
- 32:35Speaker 1: At thirty nine minutes and twenty eight seconds into this movie,
- 32:41Speaker 1: it's the scene where Picard is in his quarters by
- 32:45Speaker 1: himself looking at his family picture album and the doorchime
- 32:51Speaker 1: rings and Counselor Troy walks in and he turns around
- 32:54Speaker 1: and he says, oh, yes, hello, counselor. And in my ears,
- 33:00Speaker 1: and I've listened to it literally hundreds of times, it
- 33:03Speaker 1: sounds like he says, yes, counselor hood hood, Yes, counselor hood,
- 33:10Speaker 1: he says counselor, and there's another word at the end
- 33:15Speaker 1: of that. And I've done some exhaustive research on this,
- 33:18Speaker 1: and I did find an article years ago. I couldn't
- 33:21Speaker 1: find it again. I did find an article where Troy
- 33:25Speaker 1: had remarried or had married and her last name was
- 33:28Speaker 1: now Hood, and it was something that was scrapped. They're like,
- 33:31Speaker 1: let's let's try it. No, we're gonna scrap it. And
- 33:34Speaker 1: so I tried doing a Google search on it. I've
- 33:38Speaker 1: tried looking up articles and I just can't. I need
- 33:42Speaker 1: somebody with a good ear to go back and listen
- 33:44Speaker 1: to thirty nine twenty eight when she walks in and
- 33:47Speaker 1: he goes, yes, counselor, hood hood. That's what it sounds
- 33:53Speaker 1: like to me.
- 33:55Speaker 3: So I always took it as the man is sitting
- 34:02Speaker 3: in his quarters crying by himself.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Yes, counselors.
- 34:07Speaker 3: And he's also but he's also the you know, he's
- 34:12Speaker 3: the captain of the ship, and he is not supposed
- 34:15Speaker 3: to show his emotions to these people. And I always
- 34:19Speaker 3: took it that that's him struggling to maintain his military
- 34:27Speaker 3: bearing while wanting to just burst into tears, which he
- 34:31Speaker 3: does a few seconds later. And this right, So, I
- 34:37Speaker 3: don't know, I've never heard the the hood thing.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Okay, it's something, but I rewound it twenty times when
- 34:45Speaker 1: I watched it Friday night. But you know, somebody out there,
- 34:49Speaker 1: since I have this you know, vast million listener audience,
- 34:53Speaker 1: that's right, that's right, you know somebody out there.
- 34:55Speaker 3: I thought you were going to talk about how the
- 34:58Speaker 3: pictures have like holographic reflective borders on them because they
- 35:05Speaker 3: can't just be thirty five millimeters photos. The future it's
- 35:09Speaker 3: the future, it's a future.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Pictures, you know, when they remaster this twenty years from now,
- 35:14Speaker 1: those photos are going to like come three D out
- 35:16Speaker 1: of the Yeah, Wese Junior is gonna get hold.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Of this day. Yeah, we both says when you watch
- 35:25Speaker 2: with the closed captioning, it just as counselor Troy.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Correct, You're you're absolutely right, it does say just counselor Yeah,
- 35:32Speaker 1: because I've watched closed captioning on half a dozen different
- 35:36Speaker 1: media like DVD, Blu ray, streaming, so VHS.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Okay, So while we're talking about this and and her
- 35:47Speaker 3: coming to see him and him being in the condition
- 35:51Speaker 3: that he is, I just have to point out the
- 35:56Speaker 3: implausibility and total impropriet tea of him receiving a death
- 36:03Speaker 3: notification via email, because that's that's what that was. That
- 36:07Speaker 3: was the bridge saying captainc. Cart you got an email, Okay,
- 36:10Speaker 3: I'll take it down here, and then he punches up
- 36:12Speaker 3: his email and he reads that his brother, his sister
- 36:15Speaker 3: in law, and his nephew have died in a tragic
- 36:19Speaker 3: fire at his home. His home burned to the ground,
- 36:25Speaker 3: and they send him an email to tell him that
- 36:29Speaker 3: that's awful, that's absolutely awful.
- 36:34Speaker 2: In any from all states saying, hey.
- 36:41Speaker 1: What's that did I don't think his sister in law
- 36:44Speaker 1: died in that fire.
- 36:47Speaker 2: It's implied that they all died because he's the last.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Specifically says and Renee burned it death in.
- 36:53Speaker 3: He I could be wrong, but either way.
- 36:59Speaker 1: But that actress that played her recently past okay from
- 37:05Speaker 1: from the family, Yeah, she died, she died this week.
- 37:11Speaker 3: But you know, realistically it would be you know, they
- 37:17Speaker 3: can't do it in person death not realistically. Death notifications
- 37:21Speaker 3: are done in person, right, I know, I know they're
- 37:25Speaker 3: out on a ship. They can't do it in person.
- 37:28Speaker 3: The next best thing to in person would be a
- 37:32Speaker 3: real time communicate, base to face, real time communicate. So
- 37:36Speaker 3: it would either be an admiral telling Picard or an
- 37:42Speaker 3: admiral calling Riker and saying you have to give him
- 37:46Speaker 3: this news, or an admiral calling Troy and saying you
- 37:50Speaker 3: have to give him this news. But the idea that
- 37:52Speaker 3: he's going to get an email while he's on the
- 37:55Speaker 3: haul of deck, which is the equivalent of It's the
- 37:59Speaker 3: equivalent of you're on the golf course and you get
- 38:02Speaker 3: an email telling me telling you that your family has
- 38:04Speaker 3: been decimating, your home burned to the ground.
- 38:07Speaker 1: What the crap? Is that because in another movie with
- 38:11Speaker 1: another captain, he would have been joining Soren in his
- 38:15Speaker 1: hunt for the Nexus.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 38:19Speaker 1: Yeah, and is absolutely right. Yeah, that's ridiculous that he
- 38:25Speaker 1: got an email.
- 38:26Speaker 3: And rewatching the rewatching this years later. I'm you know,
- 38:32Speaker 3: I'm infinitely more familiar with the TNG legacy now than
- 38:38Speaker 3: I was in nineteen ninety four when I watched. When
- 38:41Speaker 3: I saw this movie in nineteen ninety four, I had
- 38:43Speaker 3: seen Uh, I hadn't seen all of the episodes, and
- 38:47Speaker 3: the ones that I had I had seen once, maybe twice.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Now I've seen them all six or seven times. If
- 38:53Speaker 3: the card was in the Nexus, and in the Nexus,
- 38:55Speaker 3: you can go anywhere, whether it's real or fake or whatever.
- 39:02Speaker 3: He's dreaming about a wife and children that never existed,
- 39:07Speaker 3: that he never knew. But I think what would be
- 39:11Speaker 3: more realistic is if his time in the Nexus recreated
- 39:17Speaker 3: his life from the Inner Light. How how much more
- 39:21Speaker 3: powerful would that have been if Butti, his son Bti,
- 39:26Speaker 3: who he raised, is there, and his wife is there,
- 39:31Speaker 3: and his old friend but Tai and his grand child.
- 39:33Speaker 2: The fact that you remember the son's name Warning Warning,
- 39:37Speaker 2: NERD Alert.
- 39:38Speaker 3: NERD Alert.
- 39:41Speaker 1: How about the fact that buttie was played by uh yes,
- 39:44Speaker 1: actual son.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Yeah, you know. Awell says they could have at least
- 39:53Speaker 2: sent a Federation telegram, And then I thought, why not
- 39:56Speaker 2: a singing telegram?
- 39:58Speaker 1: Here?
- 39:58Speaker 2: Your family is dead?
- 39:59Speaker 1: No, that's great, Wow, somebody get that as a sound bite.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Your family is dead.
- 40:09Speaker 3: So I also can't I also can't help when I
- 40:14Speaker 3: watched when I watched this movie, now, I can't help
- 40:17Speaker 3: but think how certain decisions probably wouldn't have been made
- 40:23Speaker 3: the same if they were making this movie today. There's
- 40:25Speaker 3: certain things that wouldn't be done. There's certain things that
- 40:28Speaker 3: wouldn't be said because people are so sensitive now about everything.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Oh, I have my idea what I would do with
- 40:38Speaker 2: the movie.
- 40:39Speaker 3: So Warfs WARF's promotion ceremony. Yeah, you're on an old
- 40:44Speaker 3: time sailing ship from the seventeen hundreds and you have
- 40:49Speaker 3: a black man in chains coming up from below.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:53Speaker 3: They would not film that today.
- 40:55Speaker 2: They would not know.
- 40:56Speaker 3: They would absolutely not film that today. No, and even later,
- 41:01Speaker 3: when Picard says, one thing I've learned, never underestimate a Klingon. Yeah,
- 41:07Speaker 3: that's that's that's like saying never underestimated of Puerto Rican. Yeah,
- 41:13Speaker 3: how does that play? When I say that right now.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, So.
- 41:18Speaker 3: It's you know, this movie is only thirty thirty something
- 41:21Speaker 3: years old, and so much has changed since then. There's
- 41:26Speaker 3: so many things that they just wouldn't do it that
- 41:28Speaker 3: way anymore.
- 41:29Speaker 2: I also think the movie's got a if you were
- 41:33Speaker 2: gonna tell me, hey, I'm gonna make a movie with
- 41:35Speaker 2: Captain McCard and Captain Kirk, and the main theme of
- 41:38Speaker 2: the film is going to be regret, because everybody deals
- 41:41Speaker 2: with regret in this film, So that's the main theme.
- 41:45Speaker 2: That's a weird theme to put those two in, if
- 41:50Speaker 2: that's what you're gonna pick, like it is, because I don't.
- 41:54Speaker 2: I don't think of regret when I think of those
- 41:56Speaker 2: two characters.
- 42:00Speaker 3: Actually I do, I kind of. I kind of like
- 42:03Speaker 3: that because Kirk was warning Picard that, you know, hey,
- 42:07Speaker 3: it's too late for me, but there's still time for
- 42:09Speaker 3: your go have a family. I never had a family,
- 42:13Speaker 3: which was kind of weird because you look at the
- 42:15Speaker 3: two of them side by side, and I don't know
- 42:18Speaker 3: how close they are in age, but you know, Picard
- 42:21Speaker 3: looks older than Yeah, and he's saying, hey, Gil, you know, hey,
- 42:28Speaker 3: you know, go go have a family. Yeah, But I
- 42:32Speaker 3: think what would also have been more powerful? You know,
- 42:36Speaker 3: when Picard finds Kirk and he's hanging out in his
- 42:38Speaker 3: cabin with his dog and his ex girlfriend, it's some
- 42:42Speaker 3: chick we've never met, some chick you've never heard of. Again,
- 42:45Speaker 3: how much more powerful would it have been if Carol
- 42:49Speaker 3: Marcus was there and David was there. But David wasn't
- 42:53Speaker 3: thirty one years old or twenty nine years old away.
- 42:57Speaker 3: David was six years old and he's still you know,
- 43:00Speaker 3: imagine Captain Kirk telling Picard, I get to raise my son. Here.
- 43:05Speaker 3: I missed out on that, and here I can go back.
- 43:07Speaker 3: I can raise him. I could go back to the
- 43:10Speaker 3: day he was born. I can redo all the mistakes
- 43:13Speaker 3: that I made. Fuck you man, you you handle this
- 43:16Speaker 3: next bullshit. I'm gonna be right here with my wife
- 43:20Speaker 3: and my kid.
- 43:21Speaker 2: That's right hey to me.
- 43:24Speaker 1: It's regrets both Kirk and Spot, Kirk and Spot. Both
- 43:28Speaker 1: Kirk and Picards say they don't have regrets, but both
- 43:30Speaker 1: of them profoundly do have regrets the full.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Shit both shit.
- 43:36Speaker 2: Oh my god, a waiting game. If Belichick can get
- 43:38Speaker 2: a twenty five year old girl friend Paguard again too,
- 43:43Speaker 2: And yes.
- 43:43Speaker 1: The waiting game. Generations is a Christmas movie?
- 43:47Speaker 2: Yes, yes, absolutely, yeah.
- 43:52Speaker 1: For two reasons. Number one, it came out during the
- 43:53Speaker 1: Christmas season, and number two, it's got a Christmas scene
- 43:57Speaker 1: in it.
- 43:57Speaker 2: So that's right.
- 43:59Speaker 1: Since none of my family listen to this, I can
- 44:02Speaker 1: say that during the during our Christmas get together this year,
- 44:06Speaker 1: Generations will be a trivia question.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Oh nice, yep.
- 44:13Speaker 3: It's also funny to see that, like just the changes
- 44:18Speaker 3: in our technology between then and now. Data's got this
- 44:22Speaker 3: emotion chip which increased in size from the series when
- 44:26Speaker 3: we saw a minute it was tiny in the series.
- 44:29Speaker 3: But you know, nineteen nineties versus twenty twenties. Why is
- 44:33Speaker 3: it a chip? It's a software patch. Yeah, it's a
- 44:43Speaker 3: software patchy Why is there only one of them here?
- 44:47Speaker 3: You know, Lore, you can have the patch too. We
- 44:49Speaker 3: each get the patch. We just downloaded twice.
- 44:52Speaker 1: See at least in like Battlestar Galactical, they explain why
- 44:54Speaker 1: they don't do things wirelessly. You know.
- 44:58Speaker 2: But man, uh, I kind of want to get into
- 45:05Speaker 2: my my pitch of what I would have done.
- 45:07Speaker 1: I think the audience would love to hear that. That's
- 45:10Speaker 1: a very popular thing when you when you give your
- 45:12Speaker 1: alternative storyline pitch.
- 45:14Speaker 2: They're popular. I think Scott likes him, But.
- 45:17Speaker 3: How much is it gonna cost me?
- 45:19Speaker 2: It's free, it's free, all right, Yeah, yeah, one striple work.
- 45:25Speaker 2: Yeah all right. So I think you can do a
- 45:28Speaker 2: very similar beginning Kirk is on the Enterprise, I think
- 45:33Speaker 2: you can do. He's he's in the middle of an adventure.
- 45:36Speaker 2: It's it's looking great and and he's you know, it's
- 45:40Speaker 2: a it's a bad scenario you pick out, you know,
- 45:44Speaker 2: he's fighting the Klingons whatever it is, and and it
- 45:48Speaker 2: looks like the ship's about to go down. He's ready
- 45:51Speaker 2: to go. And he's like, all right, well, if this
- 45:53Speaker 2: is the end, this is the end. And then you know,
- 45:56Speaker 2: the order to fire is done. Here comes the the
- 46:00Speaker 2: you know, towards the Enterprise. And then he wakes up
- 46:02Speaker 2: and he's in his apartment. He's all alone, and and
- 46:06Speaker 2: he's you know, he's like clutching his chest. He's like, oh, okay,
- 46:09Speaker 2: I'm here, I'm good. It was just a dream. That's okay,
- 46:12Speaker 2: We're good. And the next morning he's, you know, he's
- 46:17Speaker 2: leaving his house. He's on his way to meet with
- 46:21Speaker 2: Scottie and and and check off and they're going to
- 46:24Speaker 2: the Fleet Museum and and they're talking about retirement and no, no, no,
- 46:33Speaker 2: they're just on their way and and you know, uh,
- 46:38Speaker 2: they're they're there to look give final approval. And so
- 46:42Speaker 2: when they get to the museum, they open up the
- 46:44Speaker 2: door and there's a recreation of the of the bridge
- 46:48Speaker 2: of the Enterprise and and they're all, you know, these
- 46:51Speaker 2: guys are going through it. They're talking about, oh yeah,
- 46:55Speaker 2: this looks perfect, this matches up, and you know, Shatner
- 47:01Speaker 2: or Kirk is like, oh yeah, that should be a
- 47:04Speaker 2: red button, not a green one. Picking out little details
- 47:07Speaker 2: like you know, giving giving final approval of this of
- 47:10Speaker 2: this exhibit. And so they go to lunch and they
- 47:16Speaker 2: talk about, you know, what are you going to do
- 47:17Speaker 2: with your retirement and Kirk's like, I don't. I don't know,
- 47:20Speaker 2: like I feel just rallying around. I don't I don't
- 47:22Speaker 2: feel complete. And Scott he's like, well, you know, you
- 47:27Speaker 2: can come visit my family and come hang out. Maybe
- 47:30Speaker 2: we'll do something together and check out like yeah, oh,
- 47:32Speaker 2: come see my family and we'll do this, and and
- 47:34Speaker 2: then Kirk just kind of wanders off alone and then
- 47:37Speaker 2: he gets to you know, just a park and he's
- 47:39Speaker 2: kind of looking, kind of looking sad, and this guy
- 47:41Speaker 2: comes up to him and he goes, hey, I know
- 47:44Speaker 2: you miss your time as Captain. I can give you
- 47:47Speaker 2: all of that. I can bring it all back and
- 47:50Speaker 2: you can be back on the Captain. You can be
- 47:52Speaker 2: back in your adventures, have a brand new adventures every day.
- 47:55Speaker 2: I just want you to do one thing for me.
- 47:58Speaker 2: And Kirk's like, I who are you? I don't believe you.
- 48:01Speaker 2: The guy snaps his fingers and this dog appears. He's like,
- 48:04Speaker 2: oh my god, it's my dog and it's Kirk's beloved
- 48:07Speaker 2: dog that passed away. And the guy snaps his fingers
- 48:10Speaker 2: again and goes away. It's a que right, it's Q.
- 48:13Speaker 2: And and Q's like, all right, I can give you everything,
- 48:16Speaker 2: but you got to do one thing for me, and
- 48:18Speaker 2: if you do it, then I will give you everything
- 48:20Speaker 2: you want. And Kurk's like, all right, well what do
- 48:22Speaker 2: you want? Q whispers something in his ears. Kirk looks
- 48:25Speaker 2: at him kind of like the He's like, that's one
- 48:29Speaker 2: that's impossible and two that's ridiculous. And he's like, but
- 48:33Speaker 2: will you do it? And Kurt's like, it's sure, doesn't
- 48:39Speaker 2: sound so bad sure, I'll do it, and Q goes great,
- 48:43Speaker 2: snaps his fingers. Now, now Kirk is on the Enterprise
- 48:47Speaker 2: with Picard and they're looking at each other and Car's like,
- 48:50Speaker 2: what the what the hell? And Kerk's like, yeah, where
- 48:55Speaker 2: am I? What's going on? And he realizes he's in
- 48:58Speaker 2: the future and uh and then Q snaps his fingers again,
- 49:03Speaker 2: and Kirk's back in his apartment and he's like, what
- 49:06Speaker 2: what just happened? Now we're back with Picard And Maccard
- 49:10Speaker 2: was like, what was that because he didn't see Q.
- 49:12Speaker 2: He just saw Kurt. And the whole rest of the
- 49:15Speaker 2: crew is like, I don't I don't know, but we
- 49:18Speaker 2: now see what they're up to. And they're like, uh,
- 49:21Speaker 2: they're watching this planet. It's an M class planet that's
- 49:24Speaker 2: got like this ancient type civilization, like they're still in
- 49:27Speaker 2: the Stone Age and they're just watching them. Yeah.
- 49:31Speaker 3: Yeah, So I think you should stop the story here
- 49:34Speaker 3: and if anyone wants to know how it ends, they
- 49:37Speaker 3: head over to our Patreon or there you go, because
- 49:42Speaker 3: I'm listing like this this good.
- 49:45Speaker 1: I know this movie?
- 49:49Speaker 6: Yeah okay, yeah, So so so they're watching the civilization
- 49:59Speaker 6: because that's that's what Pricard really likes, right, he likes
- 50:02Speaker 6: anthropology and sociology and stuff like that.
- 50:05Speaker 2: So he's watching the planet and uh and uh Jordi
- 50:11Speaker 2: and Data has said, hey, look, we came out with
- 50:14Speaker 2: these cool new drones. We can send them down to
- 50:16Speaker 2: the planet. They won't be spotted by the people, and
- 50:20Speaker 2: we can get more, you know, closer shots of what's
- 50:22Speaker 2: going on as opposed to just big overhead and not
- 50:25Speaker 2: interfere with them and get you know, get soil samples
- 50:28Speaker 2: and learn more about the culture, you know, closer. And
- 50:31Speaker 2: Recard's like, great, let's let's send that down there. So
- 50:38Speaker 2: he sends it down and you know, there's talk about
- 50:41Speaker 2: he's going to go to this this uh anthropology conference
- 50:44Speaker 2: and he's trying to get uh, just artifacts to take
- 50:48Speaker 2: to that. So then Q shows up and he's like, hey, Pricard,
- 50:56Speaker 2: I've got something planned for you and you have no
- 50:58Speaker 2: idea what it is. And he's just delighted, and the
- 51:01Speaker 2: cards like I don't have time for your games. Q
- 51:03Speaker 2: go away and he was like, don't worry, you'll see
- 51:07Speaker 2: and and goes away. So then Picard's at the conference
- 51:11Speaker 2: and he's just walking around and he's he's doing his
- 51:14Speaker 2: conference stuff and then all of a sudden, Or Shatner
- 51:17Speaker 2: shows up. Uh, Kirk shows up and he's standing in
- 51:20Speaker 2: front of Kirk and he's like, you were on my
- 51:21Speaker 2: bridge the other day. What do you what are you
- 51:23Speaker 2: doing here? And and and Shatner's or Kirk's like, well, hey, uh,
- 51:31Speaker 2: I met this man. He he told me he could
- 51:33Speaker 2: give me back my my enterprise and and uh, Picard
- 51:39Speaker 2: is is like, well, I have the enterprise now. You know,
- 51:41Speaker 2: you were an inspiration to me growing up. And so
- 51:43Speaker 2: they talk a little bit about what it means to
- 51:45Speaker 2: be the captain of the enterprise and they're having a
- 51:47Speaker 2: nice little chat and uh and then finally it stops
- 51:51Speaker 2: and Kurk goes, you know, the man said I had
- 51:54Speaker 2: to do something. He's like, so, I'm sorry for this,
- 51:58Speaker 2: but it would give me back my enterprise with me
- 52:00Speaker 2: back everything I miss And then he reaches over and
- 52:04Speaker 2: he honks Picard's nose, just honks his nose like old
- 52:09Speaker 2: school Hong Kong. Then Q shows up and Q is
- 52:14Speaker 2: bent over, laughing his ass off. It's hilarious to him,
- 52:19Speaker 2: and Kirk looks at him goes, so that was it.
- 52:22Speaker 2: I get everything back now. And uh Q was like,
- 52:26Speaker 2: oh yeah, yeah, yeah, everything you want, yeah, y yeah.
- 52:29Speaker 2: And just as about he's about to snap his fingers,
- 52:33Speaker 2: four other q's show up and they stop him and
- 52:36Speaker 2: they're like, qu, this is it. We've had it with you.
- 52:40Speaker 2: You are in so much violation of what the cues
- 52:45Speaker 2: are supposed to do. And Pricarden and Kirk are like,
- 52:48Speaker 2: what is going on? And basically qs are not supposed
- 52:54Speaker 2: to interfere with anybody. They're just supposed to observe. They're
- 52:57Speaker 2: supposed to be watchers. That's why they're immortal. The reason
- 53:00Speaker 2: and that they can teleport and do everything like that
- 53:02Speaker 2: is just because they're supposed to be able to go
- 53:03Speaker 2: around and observe. They're not supposed to interfere at all.
- 53:08Speaker 2: So so Q's like, well, hey, you know, I'm I'm
- 53:12Speaker 2: just having fun, like come on, And so the Council
- 53:17Speaker 2: Q snap everybody back to the Enterprise and now they're
- 53:20Speaker 2: they're watching that civilization and Wrikers like, hey, while you
- 53:25Speaker 2: were gone, there's something going on with the core of
- 53:28Speaker 2: this planet. It's starting to depolarize and the planet is
- 53:34Speaker 2: going to break up, and so you know, we need
- 53:40Speaker 2: to we need to back away and and you know,
- 53:43Speaker 2: Kirk or Cards like, yeah, we can't interfere because of
- 53:46Speaker 2: the prime directive, and Kirk's like, but there's people down there, like,
- 53:50Speaker 2: we got to save the people. And so they they
- 53:54Speaker 2: have a debate about what does it matter, Like does
- 53:58Speaker 2: the prime directive matter? What is the intention of it? Right,
- 54:01Speaker 2: We're not supposed to interfere, or are we supposed to interfere?
- 54:04Speaker 2: So the QUES then take away all of ques powers,
- 54:09Speaker 2: right because they also have non interference, so they take
- 54:12Speaker 2: away as power. And sorry, this is all kind of
- 54:16Speaker 2: like I just thought about this all last night. So
- 54:21Speaker 2: as as the planet then is starting to break up
- 54:25Speaker 2: more and more, it's now the magnetism of that of
- 54:29Speaker 2: that core has now trapped the Enterprise, and so basically
- 54:33Speaker 2: what you have a situation is the Enterprise is going
- 54:36Speaker 2: to be slamming towards the planet just as it's breaking up,
- 54:39Speaker 2: so simultaneously everyone will die on the planet. And it
- 54:44Speaker 2: looks like a giant rock is going to hit the
- 54:46Speaker 2: Enterprise and kill it as well. So everyone's going to
- 54:50Speaker 2: die in the in the vicinity modern and the people
- 54:54Speaker 2: on the planet. So Data and Jority start working on
- 54:59Speaker 2: a solution. They come up with this device, and the
- 55:02Speaker 2: device will basically re polarize the planet and keep it together,
- 55:07Speaker 2: because you know, that's that's what they do is readjust
- 55:09Speaker 2: the polarity of things. So they're going to do that
- 55:12Speaker 2: to a giant planet, so why not. So so they
- 55:15Speaker 2: had the device and they decide they're going to send
- 55:19Speaker 2: down uh Data and an away team to go down
- 55:23Speaker 2: and fix it. So they have your your no name,
- 55:26Speaker 2: theology are geologists and someone else, and so they go
- 55:30Speaker 2: flying down because because the problems with the planet, they
- 55:33Speaker 2: don't it doesn't allow for the transporter work, so they
- 55:35Speaker 2: have to take a shuttle craft. Well, as they're flying
- 55:39Speaker 2: the shell craft, the magnetism is such a problem it
- 55:43Speaker 2: takes over the shuttle craft and just dive bombs it
- 55:46Speaker 2: right into the planet and crashes. It's a horrific explosion.
- 55:50Speaker 2: And now we think Data is dead. We think everyone
- 55:52Speaker 2: on that shuttlecraft is dead, and we are screwed because
- 55:56Speaker 2: that was the only device, right while Jeordie's like, okay,
- 56:00Speaker 2: I can scrap together in an advice, but how do
- 56:03Speaker 2: we get down there? You know, we we can't transport down,
- 56:06Speaker 2: We can't take a shuttle craft down. What are we
- 56:09Speaker 2: gonna do? So Q's like, He's like, well, I have
- 56:14Speaker 2: an idea. You have those smaller ships, the little worker
- 56:19Speaker 2: bees that they have, He's like, we can take one
- 56:21Speaker 2: of those down. They're smaller, right, that they shouldn't be
- 56:25Speaker 2: as impacted by the gravitational polls because they're lighter. And
- 56:31Speaker 2: and then Preguard's like, well, who are we going to
- 56:33Speaker 2: send down there? It's a it's a suicide mission, you know,
- 56:36Speaker 2: because we don't know who would survive if there was
- 56:38Speaker 2: a crash. But so, the one thing about Q is,
- 56:41Speaker 2: even though he doesn't have any of his powers anymore,
- 56:43Speaker 2: he still has his immortality. They basically put him on
- 56:46Speaker 2: a giant time out for five million years, right, So
- 56:50Speaker 2: so he has his immortality, but he doesn't have his powers.
- 56:53Speaker 2: So Q says, let me be the one, Let me
- 56:56Speaker 2: go down, let me make this right. You know, you
- 56:59Speaker 2: know I give you a hard time, but I you know,
- 57:02Speaker 2: I do respect you. So I'm gonna fix this for you.
- 57:05Speaker 2: And so Kirk's like, you know, yeah, you got to
- 57:10Speaker 2: let him go. He's he's the only one, he's the
- 57:11Speaker 2: man for the mission. And the Card's like, no, we
- 57:14Speaker 2: got to do this. By the book, we can't send him.
- 57:16Speaker 2: He's a lunatic. We never know if we can trust
- 57:18Speaker 2: him or not. And so they're debating, you know, go
- 57:20Speaker 2: with your instincts or go buy the book. And so
- 57:23Speaker 2: finally it doesn't matter. Q grabs a device and goes anyway.
- 57:27Speaker 2: So so he's down there. He fixes it, he saves
- 57:30Speaker 2: the planet. Q fixes it and saves the planet, and uh,
- 57:34Speaker 2: and everyone's good. They find data. Oh, Data really didn't die.
- 57:37Speaker 2: It was a fake out and uh, and so everything
- 57:40Speaker 2: is saved, and so the Council of Q show up
- 57:43Speaker 2: and they go, all right, Q, you did show that
- 57:45Speaker 2: you're willing to learn, so we'll knock a million years
- 57:48Speaker 2: off your sentence. Uh you know, Kirk, Kirk, We're yeah,
- 57:54Speaker 2: I know right, Uh Kirk, we're gonna send you back
- 57:57Speaker 2: to your time. But you know, Kirk goes, well, before
- 58:00Speaker 2: I go, I just wanted to tell Pacard one thing,
- 58:03Speaker 2: and Pacard goes, yeah, I know, I I you're right,
- 58:06Speaker 2: I should follow my instincts more, and or Kirk goes, no, no, no, no,
- 58:11Speaker 2: it's not about following your instincts. So you need to
- 58:13Speaker 2: learn to have fun in that chair, enjoy this time,
- 58:18Speaker 2: and p Guard goes, all right, you're right, and and
- 58:21Speaker 2: so snap, everything goes back, and now Percard has learned
- 58:24Speaker 2: a lesson to enjoy his time and also will give
- 58:27Speaker 2: you a reason why he's a little bit more emotional
- 58:28Speaker 2: in the movies compared to the show because now he's
- 58:31Speaker 2: willing to loosen up a little bit. So there you go.
- 58:37Speaker 1: Iay, okay, first of all, you're you're way too humble
- 58:42Speaker 1: to do this. I want you to do it. Anyways,
- 58:44Speaker 1: go ahead and highlight those two those last two comments
- 58:48Speaker 1: from a waiting game and myself, how a Waiting Game says,
- 58:51Speaker 1: how is it that Daniel can write a way better
- 58:54Speaker 1: Star Trek movie than ever anybody at pair himount? And
- 58:57Speaker 1: I said Dan was greater than percent of current Star
- 59:00Speaker 1: Trek writers. Yeah that's true. Ye, both of those statements
- 59:06Speaker 1: are true.
- 59:09Speaker 7: So yeah, So.
- 59:11Speaker 2: The theme would be, you know, instinct versus going by
- 59:14Speaker 2: the book and everything. I mean, it needs to be
- 59:15Speaker 2: plushed out a little bit more. But but there's something there.
- 59:19Speaker 1: I would have so much fun. I'm not a writer
- 59:24Speaker 1: by any stretch of the imagination, but I would have
- 59:26Speaker 1: so much fun helping to develop the dialogue, yeah, between
- 59:32Speaker 1: the characters, because as a you know, I'm not a
- 59:34Speaker 1: writer but as a huge Star Trek fan, I know
- 59:38Speaker 1: what some of these characters would say. It's kind of
- 59:41Speaker 1: a beef that I have with some of the novelists
- 59:44Speaker 1: that I see that are they're obviously Star Trek fans,
- 59:46Speaker 1: but they're not huge Star Trek fans, And sometimes you're like,
- 59:51Speaker 1: I don't think Data would say it quite like that.
- 59:54Speaker 1: I would have fun doing some of the Q dialogue
- 59:57Speaker 1: and the Data dialogue, Oh for sure. I think the
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: three of us would have a blast writing writing that
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: fan fiction.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it would be so much fun.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: Or in alternate universe writing that actual movie script.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: I think if you were going to keep the movie
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: the way it is now, though, you needed to maybe
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: do a couple more touch points about the regret theme,
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: like when when Wharf is coming out in chains in
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: the in the ship, you know, and they're celebrating. It's
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: weird to have regret when they're all celebrating, but you
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: could have done something where like he's got a headache,
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: he's got a hangover, and he's like, oh, I partied
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: too much before this promotion celebration, So there's a subtle regret.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: There to regret the going.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: Yeah, just to keep that going.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Yeah, there were some several reshots, and like the death
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: scene was redone Bevan Kirk. Originally he was just shot
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: by Soren and so they redid that. I don't know
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: that it was. I thought William shadd did good and
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: the obviously he poured every bit of his shatner issness
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: into that. He did.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: He's all over this thing.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: But honestly, you know, everybody here knows, and most of
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: us here are giant fans of the NCC one seven
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: to one. So that was a It's always a sad
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: part to watch the Enterprise Saucer section go down on
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Verdian three. And I'd like to say this too, this
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: was nineteen ninety four, this is this is they they
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: made it in ninety three. They probably started playing this
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: particular shot in ninety two. Uh as as technically flawed
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: as it probably is to a trained die. I think
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: that is the best crash landing sequence of any sci
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: fi movie or show ever. I loved it. It was fantastic,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: especially for the time. You know, a lot of people
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: look at the crash landing sequence from Into Darkness and
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: they're like, oh, that was so much more epic. No,
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: I love this. The saucer crash landing sequence.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: It was amazing, says captain on the bridge bridge in
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: the Captain Yeah, yeah, all right, so.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Well, you know it makes it also made the end
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: of Picard season three. You know. I'm I'm I'm I
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: thought about it while I was looking at at the
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: at the Saucer section on Verdian three, you know, and
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: I'm just thinking, Okay, I'm thinking about the future of
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: that Saucer section, you know, after after the the Farragut
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: and the other two tiny ships. I'm like, I look
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: at the end of the movie and I see the
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: giant Farragut, which is a Nebula class, which is basically
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: just a squished Galaxy class. And then there was another
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: another ship, maybe a Miranda class. And then there was
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: a little tiny uh what I forgot what class ship
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: that is? What's like the tiniest little it's not in
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: a Cure class. It's even smaller than that. It was
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: a little tiny It's a little V shaped, tiny tiny
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: ship that helped out It's like we're helping too people
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: the old like forty people.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: But even back in nineteen ninety four, I remember thinking,
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: all right, they can get that thing off the planet
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: and attach it to a new star drive section and
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: the Enterprise is back in business. And you know, they
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: didn't do that, they did the Enterprise E. But then
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: you know, twenty five years later, what did they do
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: in Picard Season three? They did exactly that.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: So the difference is is if you crash a Corolla
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: versus sixty nine Camaro, do you bother fixing the Corolla?
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: No?
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: But if you crash and.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: That's very reliable, that's a very reliable car, I don't know,
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: I would just dismiss it so quickly.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: Well, I'm just saying, if you if you total a Corolla,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: you're not gonna spend one hundred thousand dollars.
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: It depends, and it depends. Did Jordie drive a Corolla
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: for seven years and now he has his own and
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: now he has his own body shop and he finds
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: his particular Corolla is there in the yard. That's the difference.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, I guess it's the difference between you know,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: the a DeLorean that that just sat in the in
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: a field that belonged to John Smith and a DeLorean
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: that was a production used DeLorean. You know one you go, now,
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: that's too far beyond repair. The other one, you go, yeah,
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: we're gonna restore this. So they probably looked at the
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Enterprise deams like, yeah, we're going to.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: Restore this, while those says, why didn't they just eject
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: the core?
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: There was a short the dialogue from Jordie said. They
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: delve into it a little bit more in the book.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: But the dialogue, Jordie says, we're five minutes away from
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: a warp card breach. There's nothing I can do. So
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Riker has to infer that if there's nothing he can do,
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: that dejection system is offline. But yeah, they should be
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: able to eject it. They can never reject the core
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: when they want to.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: It's it's tricky that core.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: Yeah. And I also I read something I don't know,
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: read it or something. You know, what would stop those
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: bridge consoles from exploding? Uh? Fuses?
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, just you know.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Have to do Oh yeah, just take out one of
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: those light bulb fuses and put another one in. You see,
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: like little engineers walking around with little little fuses, you know,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: just toggle the breaker. You see like Tom paris every
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: once in a while going underneath this console. Sorry breaker.
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: He gets up, He walks to the corner of the bridge,
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: he opens the panel. I got this, what what happened?
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: What happened?
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: No, we used to transporter and Janeway was drying her
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: hair at the same time.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: Or you're an engineer, you're building the enterprise, you're building
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: the ship, and you're like, you know, we love these consoles,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: but for some sort of reason, grab a metric reas
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: they need to be heavier. What what should we put
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: in them? Should we add some let no, rocks, Let's
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: add some rocks to weigh them down. We need to
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: make them feel weighty a little bit.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: All right?
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: There is director's commentary on this. I didn't get a
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: chance to see it. I plan on checking out the
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: director's commentary for the next film. But there is a
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: book I did. I did read the novelization on this
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: a number of years ago, and they do delve into
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: a couple of things why they did things the way
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: they did.
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: But oh, okay, very cool. U we should get the
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: listener feedback because we already got Chazz was waiting and
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: all that too, and we have had some questions, so
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: let's get to that.
- 1:07:00Speaker 8: Let's listener feedback.
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: Before we get the Jazz was. I do have an
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: announcement to make for people. I haven't even told you
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: guys yet. It's been a busy week. It was recently
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: announced that chop Tease is shutting down. So our merch provider,
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: chop Tas, is shutting down in the next few weeks.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: So yeah, so we'll have to find a new home
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: for our merch. But what that'll mean for you international
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: listeners is because right now in chop Teas most countries
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: you get free shipping. That's probably going to change so
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: well because we'll have to find a new spot and
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: that's not a common ability. So in the next few weeks,
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: you got a window if you still want to get
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: trek cast merch. Now is the time so.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: They can people can still go to they can still.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: Do it, yes, and get it for the next few weeks.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: I don't have an exact date of when it was
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: going down, but they did say it'll be a few weeks.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: So you know, let's go out. Let's have chop Teas
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: go out with a bang. Let's get some of that merch.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: I'll tell you their T shirts. I have one other
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: T shirts. It's it's like an everyday T shirt that
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: I wear. I'll just grab it and wear it and
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: it has worn out.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: Dam that's right. He wears it every day every day.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: Maybe I watched to the gym to the basement with Chad.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: That's right, that's right. Yeah, yeah, does is always like
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: put on the put on the track cast tea.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: What I don't need to hear this?
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: Yeah, stop it.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: Also, you can leave us a voicemail at five seven
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: zero six six one zero zero zero one. That's five
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: seven zero six six one zero zero zero one. No
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: Ferengis will be answering your call, No one will, but
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: you can leave a voicemail. And of course we are
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: on all the social media's so yeah, trek CASTDG give
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: us a follow. So with that, we got Chas vizail.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: If you want to hear that.
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: Oh yeah, this is right. Your email, yeah you want to?
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I do have an email. You can send us
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: an email. Did you already go over that? I forgot
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: go for it. If you want to send us an
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: email TREKCASTTG at gmail dot com, or you can send
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: one directly to me at Strongbeard one seven oh one
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: at gmail dot com. We've got Tim Lamb, he says,
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Hi trek cast Tim in Australia again this week I
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: turned fifty, Happy birthday. Of my birthday weekend events included
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: a showing of Star Trek six in glorious thirty five
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: millimeter at a local cinema. The only Trek movie I
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: have never seen on the big screen, he says, section
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: thirty one doesn't count. I've seen it many times at home,
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: but to complete the set on the big screen was satisfying.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: Which one have you all seen in the cinema? I
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: was also gifted a custom lego model of the USS Defiant.
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: It includes ten ds, nine characters made up of only
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: four lego pieces each. See if you can identify who
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: is who left right? So he sends in some pictures
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: and the So the lego characters are not They're not
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: typical lego characters. They're just made up of the tiny pieces.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: So each character is only three or four tiny pieces,
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: and you can tell by their color scheme who they are.
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: So that's a really cool set. So yeah, thanks Tim,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: appreciate you send it in an email. Awesome And I
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: he has only seen the next generation movies in the theater.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: I just in nineteen ninety one when Star Trek six
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: came out I had just started watching the show, and
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: I was vaguely I wasn't even sure what the difference
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: was between Next Generation the original series. I you know so,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: but yeah, Generations was my first Star Trek movie going experience.
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: I've only seen the Kelvin movies in the theater.
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: Really, I'm all over the place. I saw two Star Trek,
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: two Star Trek, three Star Treks six Generations, first Contact,
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: Nemesis or Insurrection, then Nemesis, then the first two Calvin's
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: the last one I didn't bother. Oh wow, And I
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: did see section thirty one in the theater. I brought
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: my phone to the theater and I sat in the
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: back row and I watched it.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: There you go. There, I did not do that. No,
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: all right, well let's let's bring in jazz Viz. There
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: he is, Jazzviz. Which what Star Trek movies have you
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: seen the theater?
- 1:11:53Speaker 8: Uh Ratha, con Voyage, Home, Star Trek three and then Nemesis.
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: Wow, that's a big jump there, we're.
- 1:12:04Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, because the other ones and all of them.
- 1:12:08Speaker 8: The only one I've seen, like first run, like you know,
- 1:12:11Speaker 8: opening weekend was probably Nemesis.
- 1:12:14Speaker 7: Of course, you know, con was you know, it was
- 1:12:16Speaker 7: a baby, So I can.
- 1:12:18Speaker 8: See that one, but the others it's hard to They
- 1:12:22Speaker 8: don't replay the older.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: Ones much, you know, no, they don't.
- 1:12:27Speaker 8: They like they always play Ratha con mm hm, but
- 1:12:30Speaker 8: they don't play Underscovered Country.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:12:33Speaker 8: They'll have motion Picture occasionally.
- 1:12:35Speaker 7: But I find that one so boring.
- 1:12:37Speaker 8: There's no way my wife would ever go to a
- 1:12:39Speaker 8: Star Trek.
- 1:12:40Speaker 7: Movie begin with me. I sure that so, and.
- 1:12:45Speaker 8: Star Trek was at five. They'll probably never have that
- 1:12:48Speaker 8: one into the theater because everybody hates that one.
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: Probably not, and you know the.
- 1:12:56Speaker 8: It was at the next Gen movies like three is
- 1:12:59Speaker 8: the only one I've ever seen the movie theater so far,
- 1:13:03Speaker 8: you know, like.
- 1:13:06Speaker 7: Or actually, no, hold on? Did I see Start Trick three?
- 1:13:11Speaker 7: Which one? I said?
- 1:13:12Speaker 8: Nemesis? And what's the the board going?
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: Tell my god?
- 1:13:17Speaker 7: Why did go planks?
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: First Contact? Yeah?
- 1:13:20Speaker 7: Yeah? First Contact?
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:13:21Speaker 7: Seeing that?
- 1:13:22Speaker 8: Now, next see Generations. The problem with Generations is you
- 1:13:26Speaker 8: almost have to see the show to understand.
- 1:13:28Speaker 7: What the hell is going on in Generation.
- 1:13:32Speaker 8: Because there's so much call back to it.
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: I was offered to go watch First Contact in the
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: theaters with some friends in high school, but I was like,
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: I'm not gonna go with you nerds to watch that film.
- 1:13:44Speaker 7: Well, back then you got you got called names. That's
- 1:13:49Speaker 7: right on the first run.
- 1:13:51Speaker 8: So you had to keep your status or you're getting
- 1:13:55Speaker 8: you know, yeah, you had to stay in the closet back.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: Then, absolutely lit absolutely like Star Trek.
- 1:14:03Speaker 7: Yeah, like Star Treks is pretty hot.
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't like the Star Trek back then, so
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: it wasn't. I wasn't in the closet. I was like nah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: I didn't give even to start Trek the much much
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: later buddy, Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:19Speaker 7: Angel one, that was the one that got me.
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: So okay, Star Trek Scouts is what got me. Man,
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: that show is life changing. How are we gonna stop
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: the booger comment, Well, we'll figure it out, dance like what.
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: I know what you're talking about?
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: Star Trek Scouts.
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: Patrick's Oh geez, stop Dan.
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: Dan does not like that show. Uh so, Jasmin's what
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: did you think of? Oh no, did Chasmins freeze?
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: He frozen? Oh no, oh well.
- 1:15:03Speaker 7: Hold on, I'm back. Okay, I'm back, and everybody started spinning.
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: Now he had to flip the breaker on the bridge similarity,
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: that's like, what's going on?
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: What did you think of generations.
- 1:15:20Speaker 8: I I think they should have never killed Kirk with
- 1:15:22Speaker 8: a bridge. So that's how I full generations.
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: Oh, I wonder if that was symbolic.
- 1:15:31Speaker 8: Yeah, the bridge killed him because you know he die
- 1:15:35Speaker 8: on the bridge.
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: They definitely that.
- 1:15:38Speaker 7: Was like kind of a joke, I guess.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: A fun question. Uh, what do you think of all
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: these starting AI music videos that have been popping up recently?
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: Oh? My god, the one.
- 1:15:55Speaker 7: I haven't Yeah, I haven't seen any of that.
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: I haven't seen those, but I've seen I've seen Michael
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: Jackson ringing register at Walmart. I've seen Martin Luther King
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: Junior doing stand up. Uh, it's it's out of control.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: Yeah, this is probably with every video.
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: So the only one that I've seen that actually made
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: me laugh was it was a a cleon ed commercial,
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: the clean on sitting at the edge of the bed.
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: He goes, did you fail to bring honor into the bedroom?
- 1:16:30Speaker 7: Oh god, was he wearing a scant no?
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: No?
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: No? Yeah, yeah, I mean that's the only one that Okay,
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: that was kind of funny.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: The runner should be like a sad drooping bat left
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: the background. Yeah.
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: Because there's so much stuff that I see people reposting
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: and they think it's real.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: They think, well, and people posting real things and other
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: people going, this might.
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: Be AI, that's going to be the problem.
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I found myself I was count you know,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: I found myself saying out loud yesterday going through some
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: videos and TikTok and stuff like that, I'm like, that's
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: gotta be AI. That's gotta be A. That's gotta be A.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: Like is that cat, you know, attacking that anaconda real?
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: It looks kind of real. It feels like it's an
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: old geno. But I don't know. So I just don't
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: trust anything, you know.
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: The things I saw people were making to like to
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: prove that this is going to be a problem was
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: like they were using like they had created like the
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: KKKA handing out free food at like some mission or
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: stuff like that, you know, and like because there's people
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: and it looks like it, it looks real, you know,
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: it doesn't look like stop.
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: So I was telling my wife yesterday, I said, someone
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: could make a video of Donald Trump eating babies. Yeah, people,
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: and there are people who see see I.
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: Know he's terrible.
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: Look at eating these.
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: Video yeah either way yea or or Kamala Harris, a
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: Joe Biden.
- 1:18:18Speaker 9: Or yeah, any politician, Yeah, throw in there and something,
- 1:18:25Speaker 9: or you could to have like somebody saying like something
- 1:18:27Speaker 9: like a racial slur and like there you go, let's
- 1:18:33Speaker 9: get him out and it's a fake video.
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: Well, hey, here's the thing. You know, there are people,
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: there are people who insist that Sarah Palin said I
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: can see Russia from my house. She never said it,
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: she never, she never said it. It was an s
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: n L skit and it was someone portraying her saying that.
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: But there are people that are that are dumb enough
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: that just they remember it that way, and and and
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: it's going to be that to the nth degree because
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: now I watched the video I watched, I watched her
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: say it, and they did watch her say it.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: And one of the big problems now is so easy.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: I was watching an episode of Blue Bloods a couple
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: days ago, and this episode came out in like twenty eight,
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: twenty seventeen, twenty nineteen, and in the episode they had
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: the main character Tom Selleck, who plays a police commissioner.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: They had a video of him saying, I support whatever
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: thing he would never support in the show. And it
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: was it was. They didn't even call it deep fake.
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: They called it something else. And they're like, well, with
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: the right computers and the right type of computer programmer,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: can they can make this happen? And it's like I
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: can do that now, yeah, OI, And I don't know
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: squad about computers or AI or anything. I can just
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: ask the hey, can you make Tom Selleck a racist?
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: You know? And the chat GBT or whatever video whatever
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: can do it. It's the ease in which people can
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: do it now. So now this technology is in the
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: hands of dumb people, right.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: One of the things they've been using or yeah, one
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: of the things they've been using AI for is like
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: when they dub a show or a movie to another country,
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: they can now digitally go in and change the mouth
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: of the actors. So you don't get that like old
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: school kung fu, like, oh it's all right, where the
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: mouth doesn't match. Now the mouth can match. But you
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: can now use that technology. Let's say, in a politician
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: change their mouth movements, use AI to change their voice,
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: put their voice in right based off of so many
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: hours of speeches, so it'll sound just like them, and
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: you can have them say whatever you want and then
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: people can fire that off. It's actual footage of them,
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: but it's been so digitally altered it's hard to prove
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: that it's been digitally altered.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: Right. The only good that can come from this AI stuff.
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: The only good is that someday i'll soon, I think,
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: is I'll be able to watch Star Trek Generations written
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: by Daniel Reyes.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: So I was gonna tell you, Scott, I forgot to
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: make a chat. But there was a recent an episode
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: of the podcast I listened to called The Town, so
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: it's about Hollywood and all the latest goings. But one
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: of the recent episodes they interviewed a company that is
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: making what you've been talking about, where you can just
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: go in and type in, hey, I want to see
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: Fast and the Furious in Jurassic part together as they
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: save Sesame Street, and it'll, you know, put it all together.
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: And what they were talking about is, yes, we've created
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: this technology, but part of what you need to do
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: is make it profitable. And one of the ways they
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: want to do that is, let's say you go watch
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: the latest Star Trek movie, right, so you come home,
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: you're all excited about it, but now you want to
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: make your own sequel. Well, if you want to use
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: the new characters, you have to pay for the new
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: digital pack to add those characters into your make believe stories.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: And that's how they could be profitable.
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: Right yeah, right, But it's also they you know, this
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: company is going You're going to pay this company getting
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: a licensing agreement from Paramount to use these characters.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: It's gonna be it's gonna be a nightmare, and it.
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: Is gonna be a nightmare. And it's you know, it's
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: there's gonna be stuff in the background of that user
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: agreement where if if your prompts creates something really good
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: doesn't belong to you, No it does not, they can
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: sell it to you know, the algorithm is gonna tell
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: them which other users would probably like this, and it's
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: going to go and it's going to go in the
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: you know, the downloadable content areas.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: So you're people that are going in law school right now,
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: you want to make you want to become rich, get
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: start researching this kind of law, because it's going to
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: be I think someone in the group earlier this week,
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: I had just for fun, I had a conversation with
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: chat GBT and uh. Together we came up with a
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: scene that was it was a it was a hearing
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: uh that happened just after Voyager got back. And it
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: was the Admiralty uh wanting to get down, get get
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: uh figure out what happened with the whole Tuovik situation.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: And and I had it. The Janeway was there, like
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: Admiral and Ni cheev An Admiral uh Paris was there
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: and they just had a conversation with Janeway was there,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: Tuvak was there, Neelix was on a monitor uh there
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: and and they just went back and forth like trying
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: to try to get down to like you know, what happened.
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: And I thought it was the way that I. In fact,
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: I even had a conversation with chat GBT about the
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: ethics of storytelling and using AI and I came up
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: with the analogy of in in in in television, you
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: see the credits and it'll say story by a certain
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: individual and then screenplay by or written by Sometimes somebody
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: comes up with an idea and then somebody else writes
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: the actual dialogue, right, And that's how I saw myself.
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: I came up with the idea, I let chat GBT
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: come up with the write the actual dialogue.
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: So I read your I read your scene, and one
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: of the things that that disappointed me is that Janeway
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: did not have any legal representation, because those accused of
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: murder are entitled to representation. Again, yeah, and that's when
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: when being questioned by the government.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: You're absolutely right. No, you're absolutely right. And that's something
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: you can add because when when it first wrote it,
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: I was very specific about certain like the dialogue was
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: chat gbt's, but every idea within the dialogue, like when
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: when Neelix interjects, because I said, I want Neelix to
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: be the one who's a little wishy washy in this.
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: I want him to have a little bit of regret.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: I want Tuvac to be the one that absolutely one
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: hundred percent agrees I want Neelix to go. You know,
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: I mean, I'm glad how things turned out, but yeah,
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: I kind of agree that this. It was crappy situation,
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: and I wanted and I wanted more a more adversarial
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: relationship between Janeway and the Admiralty, you know. And oh
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: the doctor was there too, and and and I I
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: told chat GBT, I want you to have I want
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: the doctor to be an observer at first, but then
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: get pulled into this against his will, like he wants
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: to defend the captain, but he also has to tell
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: the truth about the scene where he says, I refuse
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: to do this procedure and then Captain Janeway says, stand aside.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: So every every element within the dialogue was my idea,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: but the dialogue itself was done by chat gbt so
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: and all boys. You know, it all comes down to, like,
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: you know, the legality of it. Like hell, even the
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: fact that I posted it. You know, it's now out
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: there on on a on a platform, on a Facebook
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: platform that is, you know, watched by people that look
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: at this show. You know. So I yeah, I'm in
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: any of my own lawyers. Well, no offense.
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: We we should uh, we should be wrapping up because
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: we were going really long.
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I knew this is gonna go long too.
- 1:26:10Speaker 8: So Dan that that Frangie head that that you gotta
- 1:26:13Speaker 8: be careful when you do that when you go really
- 1:26:16Speaker 8: slowly up.
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: Yeah right, there can I before we leave? And I
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: just mentioned one more time about the cons coming up.
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, go for it.
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: So Grand Rapids Comic Con November fourteenth or the sixteenth.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: I will be there on the fifteenth all day. We've
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: got Alice Creege creege as I hate pronounce her name
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: from oh Creek Alice Kreigh. Malcolm McDowell is going to
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: be there, Bobby Clark, he was the guy in the
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: Gorn suit for the Kirk Gorn fight in the original series.
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: And Peter Weller from Into.
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: Darkness I could.
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: Right right, So I'm sure that's gonna be kind of
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: an interesting, interesting convention. The following weekend is Star Trek Chicago.
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: This is gonna be the big one. I'm going to
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: be there the whole weekend. This is gonna be November
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: twenty second and the twenty third, that Saturday and Sundaygo
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: huh like that Chicago Chicago pizza there? Yeah?
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: Oh you gotta go down to the to the to
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: the beef.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: Where did we have pizza?
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: I can't remember the name of the place.
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Anthony Rapp is going to be there, Lieutenant
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: Stammets Bonding, Gordon the ship's computer from Prodigy, Brent Spiner,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: you know who he is. Celia Gooding, who are from
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: Strange New Worlds, Christina Chong Lawn from Strange New Worlds,
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: Sarrock Lofton Jake Cisco, Doug Jones who played Saru, Gabrielle
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: Ruez Teelin from Lower Decks, Gates McFadden, Doctor Crusher, Jerry
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: Ryan seven of nine. They're gonna have some other scientific
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: like doctor just Stay six. She's an astro physicist. Jonathan
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: del Arco, who played Hugh. We have a doctor Live Green.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: She's an astrophysicist. Uh n Now visitor who played Kira.
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: Admiral Nichayev is going to be there. Uh just Tim
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: Russ uh Todd's Todd Stashwick, Captain Shaw uh Tricia d Fazzio,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: Captain's girlfriend girlfriend. Okay, William Shatner is going to be there.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: William is going to be there.
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: Uh he Well, want to know. We're still listening to
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: con I am, I am.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: If you're going to be in the Chicago are I
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: have already been contacted by one person nice to do
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: a meet up. We're gonna do a meet up Saturday night.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: It's probably gonna be at the restaurant that's attached to
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: the convention Center. I'm staying there. Uh So it's at
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: the it's at the I'll have to look that up again.
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: But they have they have a place right.
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: At the Yeah, you'll put it in the group people,
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: I'll put it.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: In the group chat.
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: Then I got these. I got these cold snakers. Yeah,
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: so we're gonna be anybody who who asks for one
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: at the convention, I'll be handing these out. Come up
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: and ask for a sticker, and I will be handing
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: these out. Love to do a meet up?
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: Awesome?
- 1:29:21Speaker 7: Are you driving or flying?
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: I'm driving. Chicago's about the outermost limit of where i'll
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: drive to. Yeah, two and a half hours.
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: That's not bad.
- 1:29:30Speaker 7: That's really not bad for awesome.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: Well, thanks everybody for listening. We'll catch you next time
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: as we continue reviewing the next gen movies.
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: All right, bye, right, yea.
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: This is Captain Benjamin Cisco of Deep Space nine and
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: Space God to the Bajorans.
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: I have a mission for you.
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: This falls outside of Starfleet guidelines, so I can't order you,
