- 0:00It's Sunday, everyone 43° today is going to be the high, but
- 0:07they're talking about a record high on Christmas.
- 0:11Here in Saint Louis. It's going to be 73°.
- 0:17So who's going to be wearing shorts on Christmas Day in St.
- 0:20Louis, MO? I told Kim.
- 0:24I said maybe we should open the swimming pool up.
- 0:28Lucy. Hi.
- 0:31Lucy. What you doing?
- 0:33Huh. What you doing?
- 0:37Oh, Lucy. Lucy, the legend.
- 0:40And they're Louie. I don't know.
- 0:41Louie. Louie.
- 0:44Hi, buddy. What you doing?
- 0:48He's like, Louie's like. Are you giving Lucy more
- 0:52attention than me? All right, everybody, today I'm
- 1:01going to go out on the town, going to take some of my friends
- 1:07around Saint Louis, and they're up here from Arkansas, so we're
- 1:11going to have a good time. Yesterday we went to the Arch
- 1:15Sue Lard Market, Busch Stadium, Hodax went to the Worldwide
- 1:21Technology and saw the Christmas lights.
- 1:24But we put in a full day and we still got a full day ahead of us
- 1:28today. We're going to go out and about
- 1:31again. All right, Today's subject
- 1:36matter is something that I saw on Facebook and it made me
- 1:43think. And here was the headlines.
- 1:44It said talent does not make it in racing anymore.
- 1:53So it made me think so it sounded like somebody was
- 2:02bitter, like something went bad. And I want to address that.
- 2:08Does talent make it in racing anymore?
- 2:14Absolutely. And the great Dick Trickle
- 2:17taught me, he said. My boy, you got to want to and
- 2:23you know God will want to means if you want it, you're going to
- 2:25become a race car driver. It is.
- 2:30Is it easy to make it in racing? Hell no.
- 2:35It's the hardest thing there is and here's why.
- 2:41So you need money first. OK, so you got to go find money.
- 2:47So I did. My mom and dad didn't give me a
- 2:50dime. So my very first race car, I
- 2:57found John Child's child's tire up in O'Fallon, Missouri.
- 3:02John helped me build my first Dillon asphalt car for ASA.
- 3:10Then I needed a motor. Then I went down to Don Kern,
- 3:13Kern Racing Engines. Don said I'll build you motor,
- 3:17but you give me a third of everything, you win.
- 3:21So if you win $100 bill, you got to give me $30.
- 3:26Then for tires I had to pay for them, my truck, my dad Co signed
- 3:33a loan, I went and got a used Globe Democrat newspaper
- 3:37delivery truck, so on and so forth.
- 3:42That's how I got going racing. I had nothing to live in a
- 3:46single bedroom apartment, wasn't even married to Kim in hell she
- 3:51paid for the my Dylan trailer. So I want to address that once
- 3:59again, the subject matter is talent does not make it in
- 4:03racing anymore. I don't believe that.
- 4:07Now I will say this, let's address dirt racing Super late
- 4:12models. When you when you look at dirt
- 4:16super late models, when you get into the Lucas Oil late models
- 4:19of the World of Outlaw late models and you get into the
- 4:22garage area, none of those guys bitch and complain about money
- 4:27because they all got money. They all got car owners, they
- 4:32all got something. Everybody's got a sponsor or
- 4:34sugar daddy. Let's look at Bobby Pierce.
- 4:38That's one of that's a very rare situation.
- 4:40Family run company. Bobby Pierce got a ton of
- 4:44talent, got a great family, got a good sponsor, low voltage
- 4:48solution. Look at Bobby Pierce's car.
- 4:51He's got all those sponsors because they're doing something
- 4:54right and ain't cuz he wins all the time.
- 4:57Now that helps, don't get me wrong, but that's a family run
- 5:01deal and talent was born into the family after the tall cool
- 5:06and Bob Pierce did good. Let's look at Nick Hoffman.
- 5:11Nick's a dear friend of mine. Nick came out of Saint Louis and
- 5:14that family can make chicken salad out of chicken.
- 5:18He literally built and builds dirt modifieds for a living.
- 5:23That's what he does now. Nick Hoffman and the whole
- 5:26Hoffman family, they are the epitome of God.
- 5:31I want them. Nick Hoffman's dirt super late
- 5:34mile that he runs in the World of Outlaws.
- 5:36He got a car owner. But Nick does all the all the
- 5:42work with a crew member here, a crew member there.
- 5:45They're always leaving. All these crew members are
- 5:48always leaving. You always see it out there.
- 5:52Need loyal help. The job pays for what you can
- 5:55do, what you can know. But Nick's got a car owner.
- 5:59And then Nick over delivers and then wins about 5 races a year.
- 6:03You look at somebody like a, a Devin Moran.
- 6:08Devin got a car owner. He does everything.
- 6:11I interviewed Devin Moran on Kenny conversation.
- 6:15So I want to ask it again. I hear that talent will not make
- 6:20it in racing. You got to want to.
- 6:24Now can everybody just go racing?
- 6:26Well, hell no. That that I I find that such a
- 6:30strength. So I feel like everybody says
- 6:34everybody should be able to race.
- 6:35Well, no, they shouldn't, because only the ones that got
- 6:39to want it. How bad do you want it?
- 6:41Do you want to do it? Well, I can't race because I got
- 6:44no money. Hey, listen, it's like The Rock
- 6:48said, If you want to do something bad enough, you'll
- 6:51figure out a way to do it. If you don't want to do
- 6:55something, you'll figure out a way not to do it.
- 6:58So as far as one or two people out there saying, oh, I can't
- 7:02race, this is too much. That's too much.
- 7:05Well, maybe. Maybe you're just wore out.
- 7:07Maybe it's not meant for you. I doubt any of you have worked
- 7:14as hard as I have. My story is unbelievable and my
- 7:19wife can tell you it. How the hell I made it is pure.
- 7:24God will want to, want to, need it.
- 7:27Got to have it. I'm going to be a race car
- 7:29driver. When you first say that to
- 7:32yourself, make it work. Get out, meet people, introduce
- 7:36yourself, take care of your sponsors.
- 7:41I got great sponsors because I run my mouth and I sell product.
- 7:46Sunoco Jags Low Voltage Solution, Pit Stop Motorsports K
- 7:52Now Ready Mix Priority Aviation. Southern Country, Custom Crow,
- 7:59Trevor Atwell, Mobil One Oil. It goes on and on.
- 8:08If you want it bad enough, you'll get it, and if you don't
- 8:12want it bad enough, you'll make excuses.
- 8:15I just gave you a lot of examples.
- 8:19Have a good Sunday, everyone.
