- 1:45Back to the brief. In City Watch, Sacramento
- 1:48County has issued its formal response to a grand
- 1:52jury report examining its Welcome Homes and the
- 1:56services provided to foster youth who are experiencing
- 2:00or considered at risk of sexual exploitation.
- 2:04The county agrees that the conditions at the
- 2:06homes have improved and says the sheriff's office
- 2:08has helped provide protection while building
- 2:11positive relationships with young people living
- 2:13there. However, it disagrees with several other
- 2:17findings, including claims that foster youth
- 2:20are being left vulnerable because of access to
- 2:23cell phones, gaps in information sharing, and
- 2:26inadequate staff training. County officials say
- 2:30phones can serve as an important safety tool.
- 2:33Information about exploitation concerns is shared
- 2:36with law enforcement, and staff receive training
- 2:39in trauma -informed care, harm reduction, and
- 2:42commercial sexual exploitation of children. The
- 2:46county acknowledges that its quarterly report
- 2:48have not included specific numbers of youth identified
- 2:52as being exploited or at risk. during the second
- 2:59quarter of the current fiscal year. Officials
- 3:03will also review practices used by other counties
- 3:06with that research expected to be completed by
- 3:09December 31st. Today's Sacramento Brief is brought
