- Lucas: Hey, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. We've been learning so much Malay lately. Last time we covered 'apa' and 'siapa'. Lucas: Right, what and who. Today, we're adding another super useful question word. Ready? Luna: Ready. What is it? Lucas: Today, it's 'di mana' — that means 'where'. It's one of those words you'll use all the time when you're out and about. Luna: Di mana. Where. Got it. Lucas: Let's start simple. Di mana? Di mana? Can you try that, Luna? Luna: Di mana? Di mana? Where? Nice. Lucas: Exactly. Di mana? is just asking 'where?'. But usually you want to ask about a specific place. Like, where is the toilet? Di mana tandas? Luna: Di mana tandas. That's really important. I always need to know that when I'm out. Lucas: Absolutely. So, tandas is toilet or restroom. Di mana tandas? Where is the toilet? Let's hear you say it. Luna: Di mana tandas? Di mana tandas? That's fun to say. Lucas: It is. And if you're at a train station, you might ask, Di mana stesen? Where is the station? Stesen is station, borrowed from English. Luna: Di mana stesen? Where is the station? Oh, I remember 'stesen' from the train ticket episode. Lucas: Good memory. Now, let's put these together in a little scene. Picture you're at a mall, and you need to find the toilet. Luna: Okay, I'm at the mall. I'm looking around. I see a security guard. Lucas: You walk up and ask, Di mana tandas? Luna: Di mana tandas? Lucas: And they might point and say, Di sana. That means 'over there'. Luna: Di sana. Over there. So if someone says di sana, I know to go that way. Lucas: Exactly. Di sana is a great response to learn too. Let's try a quick back and forth. I'll ask, you answer. Di mana tandas? Luna: Di sana. Lucas: Perfect. You just had your first mini conversation. Luna: That felt good. Oh, before we go on, I just want to say if you're finding these episodes useful and you want to keep them going ad-free, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Yeah, that really helps us keep making these little lessons. Thanks for thinking of it. Luna: Now, what if I don't know where something is? What do I say? Lucas: Great question. You can say, Saya tidak tahu. That means 'I don't know'. Tahu is 'know', and tidak is 'not'. Luna: Saya tidak tahu. I don't know. So I could ask for directions, and if I don't understand, I just say, Saya tidak tahu. Lucas: Careful, though. 'Saya tidak tahu' means you don't know, not that you don't understand. But it's still useful when you're lost. Luna: Ah, right. So if someone asks me where the station is, and I don't know, I say, Saya tidak tahu. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice that. Saya tidak tahu. Say it with me. Luna: Saya tidak tahu. Saya tidak tahu. Lucas: Now, let's do a tiny story. Imagine you're in a new town. You want to find the station. Luna: Okay. Lucas: You ask a local, Di mana stesen? Luna: Di mana stesen? Lucas: They point and say, Di sana. Luna: Di sana. Great. Lucas: You walk over, but you're not sure if it's the right place. You see another person and ask again, Di mana stesen? Luna: They might say, Saya tidak tahu. Lucas: That's right. So you have to keep asking. Let's review what we've learned today. We have di mana, meaning where. Luna: Di mana. Lucas: Di mana tandas, where is the toilet. Luna: Di mana tandas. Lucas: Di mana stesen, where is the station. Luna: Di mana stesen. Lucas: And di sana, over there. Luna: Di sana. Lucas: And Saya tidak tahu, I don't know. Luna: Saya tidak tahu. Lucas: Nice job today. Try using these next time you're out. Even just asking yourself, di mana, when you're looking for something. Luna: That's a good idea. I'll do that. Thanks, Lucas. Lucas: Thanks for joining us on Learn Malay with Fexingo. Practice these, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Bye for now.
