- 0:00Speaker 1: Five years ago today, seven am, I think it was
- 0:03Speaker 1: seven nine, a five point seven magnitude earthquake hit the
- 0:08Speaker 1: Washsat Front and it was our last day. So so
- 0:13Speaker 1: the pandemic started. Like we I mean officially we.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Were about to leave the studio.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Well we had talked about it, but we weren't. And
- 0:23Speaker 1: then the earthquake hit on this day five years ago,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and then we never came back for like two.
- 0:27Speaker 3: And a half years.
- 0:28Speaker 2: We all we all went k.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Now, I want we all went home, and I remember
- 0:34Speaker 3: being home and there was an aftershock and I felt
- 0:38Speaker 3: that I.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Want to I want to compare this, and we're gonna
- 0:42Speaker 2: we're gonna play you for here just a second.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Maybe oh uh uh the uh?
- 0:47Speaker 2: What what happened that day when we were on the air.
- 0:50Speaker 3: She's still trying to find it.
- 0:52Speaker 2: But I heard another radio person talking about this the
- 0:56Speaker 2: other day and he said, I was right in the
- 0:59Speaker 2: mid of doing a traffic report and I felt this,
- 1:04Speaker 2: and I thought, oh, that's an earthquake. I know that's
- 1:07Speaker 2: an earthquake. I wonder if I should say something about it. Well,
- 1:10Speaker 2: and then I just threw to the back to the anchor.
- 1:13Speaker 1: This is a news person, Yeah, well yeah.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Working at a news station. We're not a news station,
- 1:19Speaker 3: but we were talking about it. We took phone calls
- 1:22Speaker 3: for an hour.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I went to and then I went out to Todd's
- 1:27Speaker 2: house because we shut down here. Oh that's right, and
- 1:30Speaker 2: I went I went out to Todd's house. I asked
- 1:32Speaker 2: my wife, are you guys okay up there at home?
- 1:35Speaker 2: She said, yeah, go ahead, and so I went out
- 1:37Speaker 2: to Todds and there we felt after shocks at Todd's
- 1:40Speaker 2: and we talked to people on the air for several hours,
- 1:43Speaker 2: Todd and I did.
- 1:45Speaker 3: And it was especially egregious here in this studio because
- 1:50Speaker 3: our studio is, you know, kind of a walkway for
- 1:54Speaker 3: it's on a bridge. It's it's a bridge that's between
- 1:57Speaker 3: two buildings, and so the bridge was shaking more so
- 2:02Speaker 3: than than everywhere else.
- 2:04Speaker 2: The creepiest part to me, too, was we we were
- 2:08Speaker 2: instructed to leave the building. Yeah, so we did, and uh,
- 2:12Speaker 2: I was waiting out front. I forget why. I forget
- 2:14Speaker 2: why I was standing around out front because ever everybody
- 2:17Speaker 2: was well and leaning against the building and and then
- 2:20Speaker 2: there was an aftershock and the building shook and that
- 2:22Speaker 2: was the worst.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I was like, I got to get my car out
- 2:26Speaker 1: of the the parking structure. I don't want the building.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Falling on my thought too.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And Festus at the time was working at Fox News. Yeah,
- 2:36Speaker 1: that's it was the camera guy at Fox News. And
- 2:38Speaker 1: I think it was Scott McCain that was outside here.
- 2:41Speaker 3: McCain does like to set up out of here.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And I remember when we left the building, I ran
- 2:46Speaker 1: over there and they were in a commercial break. But
- 2:48Speaker 1: I poked my head in the camera and I said, fastus,
- 2:52Speaker 1: Mama loves you. And he's thinking, because I knew he
- 2:55Speaker 1: was at the TV.
- 2:56Speaker 3: We have we have the audio if you want to
- 2:58Speaker 3: hear it. It's it's just a minute. Okay. So folks,
- 3:01Speaker 3: keep in mind this is recording from five years ago.
- 3:04Speaker 3: This is not happening right now. Okay, So here we go.
- 3:09Speaker 2: So this so here's this is what happened.
- 3:11Speaker 3: For those who don't know, we're talking about Dave, the
- 3:13Speaker 3: flower guy. He decides who boner of the week. Again,
- 3:16Speaker 3: this is a recording, Okay.
- 3:18Speaker 2: We had said. I called him last week and said, Dave,
- 3:20Speaker 2: we don't want you to come into the studio on Friday.
- 3:23Speaker 2: We'll call you and you can pick the boner of
- 3:25Speaker 2: the week on the on the phone and he said okay,
- 3:30Speaker 2: and so we called him and we didn't get an answer.
- 3:33Speaker 2: This past Friday, I called him yesterday and I'll say,
- 3:36Speaker 2: I said, Dave, are you okay?
- 3:40Speaker 3: We're having an earthquake?
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 3:41Speaker 1: No, oh, we aren't having an earthquake. That is.
- 3:47Speaker 3: That is a bit of an earthquake there. Oh my,
- 3:56Speaker 3: let's are we still on the air, still on the air.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Okay, We're downtown Salt Lake and the whole building is
- 4:03Speaker 2: shaking like hell, yeah, it's letting go now it's stopping.
- 4:08Speaker 2: But that was certainly an earthquake as it was. We're
- 4:12Speaker 2: still on the air.
- 4:13Speaker 3: We're still in the air as far as I know.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Is there any way to determine that? If you can
- 4:21Speaker 2: call the radio station, there we go. So yeah, that
- 4:25Speaker 2: was that was that brought it all back. Yeah, a
- 4:28Speaker 2: little that you could you could hear the building shaking,
- 4:33Speaker 2: which was this awful.
- 4:35Speaker 1: You don't hear me on that recording because I behaved
- 4:37Speaker 1: in the way you're supposed to behave during an earth.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Stopped drop and roll.
- 4:41Speaker 1: They dove under the death stop dropping roll.
- 4:43Speaker 2: That's what Gina did, all right,
