- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, March 24th.
- 0:12Courage to stand and follow. There are moments in life when
- 0:15you feel too small for what is in front of you.
- 0:17Too weak, too inexperienced, too uncertain, too ordinary.
- 0:22Maybe you know what is right, but standing for it feels
- 0:25intimidating. Maybe you sense God leading you,
- 0:28but following Him feels risky. It is in moments like those that
- 0:32courage becomes more than a feeling.
- 0:35It becomes a decision to trust God more than your fear.
- 0:39Proverbs chapter 12 verse 26 says the righteous is a guide to
- 0:43his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.
- 0:46That means your life is not just about you.
- 0:49Your choices point somewhere. The way you live, speak,
- 0:53respond, and decide can influence the people around you
- 0:55for good or for harm. Then Psalm chapter 36, verse 5
- 1:00says Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens
- 1:04your faithfulness to the clouds. Before God calls us to stand, He
- 1:08reminds us of who He is. He is faithful.
- 1:12His love is steady. His character does not shift
- 1:15with our emotions, and in Judges chapters 6 to 7, Gideon is a
- 1:19perfect example of someone who felt unqualified.
- 1:22He doubted, hesitated, and questioned, Yet God called him
- 1:26forward and showed him that victory would not come through
- 1:29numbers or human confidence, but through God's strength.
- 1:33That is still how God works. He often calls people who feel
- 1:37inadequate so they will learn to rely on Him.
- 1:40Courage is not having No Fear. Courage is moving in obedience
- 1:44while leaning on the faithfulness of God.
- 1:47It is standing when compromise would be easier.
- 1:50It is speaking truth when silence would feel safer.
- 1:53It is following God when you do not have all the details.
- 1:56And the beautiful part is this. You do not have to manufacture
- 2:00that strength by yourself. God gives it.
- 2:03Gideon did not become brave because he suddenly believed in
- 2:06himself. He became brave because God was
- 2:09with him. That is the source of courage
- 2:12for you too. Your example matters.
- 2:15Someone is watching how you respond under pressure, how you
- 2:18treat people, how you handle fear, and whether you trust God
- 2:21when things feel uncertain. So stand, follow, trust.
- 2:26Even small acts of obedience can become guiding lights in someone
- 2:29else's darkness. Let's pray.
- 2:32Heavenly Father, thank you for your steadfast love and
- 2:35faithfulness. When I feel small or
- 2:38unqualified, remind me that you are with me.
- 2:41Give me courage to stand for what is right and to follow
- 2:43where you lead. Let my choices guide others
- 2:46toward truth and hope. Teach me to trust your strength
- 2:50more than my fear, and help me walk in obedient faith each day.
- 2:53In Jesus name, Amen. What if the most important
- 2:57question in your life deserves more than a shallow answer?
- 3:00Does God Exist Is a powerful, thought provoking series that
- 3:04explores reality, meaning, and truth through reason, evidence,
- 3:08human experience, and scripture without preaching pressure or
- 3:12assumptions. Book 1, Something from Nothing,

- 3:18anything exists at all. Book 2, The Cause Behind the
- 3:22Cosmos, examines the origin of the universe and whether it
- 3:25points beyond itself. Book 3, Design or Accident,
- 3:29wrestles with order and complexity.
- 3:31Are they products of chance or intelligence?
- 3:33Book 4, The Moral Signature, explores why objective right and
- 3:37wrong may require a source beyond human opinion.
- 3:40Book 5, The God We Cannot Escape, considers conscience,
- 3:43longing, and humanity's persistent awareness of God.
- 3:47Book 6, From Reason to Revelation, asks whether the God

- 4:17Now I invite you to spend time with God in today's three-year
- 4:20Bible reading plan. Proverbs Chapter 12 Verse 26
- 4:25World English Bible. A righteous person is cautious
- 4:28in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.
- 4:31Psalm Chapter 36 World English Bible for the chief musician by
- 4:36David, the servant of Yahweh. A revelation is within my heart
- 4:40about the disobedience of the wicked.
- 4:42There is No Fear of God before his eyes, for he flatters
- 4:46himself in his own eyes too much to detect and hate his sin.
- 4:50The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit.
- 4:52He has ceased to be wise and to do good.
- 4:55He plots iniquity on his bed. He sets himself in a way that is
- 4:58not good. He doesn't abhor evil.
- 5:01Your loving kindness, Yahweh is in the heavens.
- 5:03Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
- 5:06Your righteousness is like the mountains of God.
- 5:08Your judgments are like a great, deep Yahweh.
- 5:11You preserve man and animal. How precious is your loving
- 5:14kindness, God, The children of men take refuge under the shadow
- 5:18of your wings. They shall be abundantly
- 5:20satisfied with the abundance of your house.
- 5:23You will make them drink of the river of your pleasures.
- 5:25For with you is the spring of life.
- 5:27In your light we will see light. Oh, continue your loving
- 5:30kindness to those who know you, Your righteousness to the
- 5:33upright in heart. Don't let the foot of pride come
- 5:36against me. Don't let the hand of the wicked
- 5:38drive me away. They're the workers of iniquity
- 5:41are fallen. They are thrust down and shall
- 5:44not be able to rise. Judges, chapters six to seven
- 5:47world English Bible. The children of Israel did that
- 5:51which was evil in Yahweh's sight.
- 5:53So Yahweh delivered them into the hand of Midian. 7 years the
- 5:57hand of Midian prevailed against Israel, and because of Midian
- 6:00the children of Israel made themselves the dens which are in
- 6:03the mountains, the caves and the strongholds.
- 6:06So it was when Israel had sown that the Midianites, the
- 6:09Amalkites and the children of the East came up against them.
- 6:13They encamped against them and destroyed the increase of the
- 6:15earth until you come to Gaza. They left no sustenance in
- 6:19Israel and no sheep, ox or donkey, for they came up with
- 6:23their livestock and their tents. They came in as locusts for
- 6:26multitude. Both they and their camels were
- 6:29without number and they came into the land to destroy it.
- 6:32Israel was brought very low because of Midian and the
- 6:35children of Israel cried to Yahweh.
- 6:37When the children of Israel cried to Yahweh because of
- 6:40Midian, Yahweh sent a prophet to the children of Israel, and he
- 6:44said to them, Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, I brought you up
- 6:48from Egypt and brought you out of the House of bondage.
- 6:51I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the
- 6:54hand of all who oppressed you, and drove them out from before
- 6:57you and gave you their land. I said to you, I am Yahweh your
- 7:00God. You shall not fear the gods of
- 7:03the Amorites in whose land you dwell, but you have not listened
- 7:06to my voice. Yahweh's Angel came and sat
- 7:09under the oak, which was an offra that belonged to Josh the
- 7:12Abbey's rite. His son Gideon was beating out
- 7:15wheat in the wine press to hide it from the Midianites.
- 7:18Yahweh's Angel appeared to him and said to him, Yahweh is with
- 7:21you, you mighty man of valor. Gideon said to him, Oh my Lord,
- 7:25if Yahweh is with us, why then has all this happened to us?
- 7:29We're all his wondrous works which our fathers told us of
- 7:31saying, Didn't Yahweh bring us up from Egypt?
- 7:34But now Yahweh has cast us off and delivered us into the hand
- 7:37of Midian. Yahweh looked at him and said,
- 7:40Go in this your might and save Israel from the hand of Midian.
- 7:44Haven't I sent you? He said to him, Oh Lord, how
- 7:47shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is the poorest
- 7:50in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.
- 7:53Yahweh said to him, Surely I will be with you, and you shall
- 7:56strike the Midianites as one man.
- 7:58He said to him, If now I have found favor in your sight, then
- 8:02show me a sign that it is you who talk with me.
- 8:04Please don't go away until I come to you and bring out my
- 8:07present and lay it before you. He said, I will wait until you
- 8:11come back. Gideon went in and prepared a
- 8:13young goat and unleavened cakes of an efer of meal.
- 8:16He put the meat in a basket and he put the broth in a pot and
- 8:19brought it out to him under the oak and presented it.
- 8:22The Angel of God said to him, take the meat and the unleavened
- 8:25cakes and lay them on this rock and pour out the broth.
- 8:29He did so. Then Yahweh's Angel stretched
- 8:31out the end of the staff that was in his hand and touched the
- 8:35meat and the unleavened cakes and fire went up out of the rock
- 8:38and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes.
- 8:41Then Yahweh's Angel departed out of his sight.
- 8:44Gideon saw that he was Yahweh's Angel and Gideon said, alas Lord
- 8:48Yahweh, because I have seen Yahweh's Angel face to face.
- 8:51Yahweh said to him, Peace be to you, don't be afraid, you shall
- 8:55not die. Then Gideon built an altar there
- 8:57to Yahweh and called it Yahweh is peace.
- 9:00To this day it is still in offer of the Abbey's rights.
- 9:03That same night Yahweh said to him, Take your father's bull,
- 9:07even the second bull, seven years old, and throw down the
- 9:10altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the ashra that
- 9:13is by it. Then build an altar to Yahweh
- 9:15your God, on the top of this stronghold in an orderly way,
- 9:19and take the second bull and offer a burnt offering with the
- 9:22wood of the ashra, which you shall cut down.
- 9:25Then Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as Yahweh had
- 9:29spoken to him, because he feared his father's household and the
- 9:32men of the city. He could not do it by day, but
- 9:35he did it by night. When the men of the city arose
- 9:38early in the morning, behold, the altar of bail was broken
- 9:41down, and the ashrae was cut down.
- 9:44That was by it, and the second bull was offered on the altar
- 9:47that was built. They said to one another, Who
- 9:49has done this thing? When they inquired and asked,
- 9:52they said, Gideon, the son of Josh has done this thing.
- 9:55Then the men of the city said to Josh, Bring out your son that he
- 9:58may die because he has broken down the altar of Baal, and
- 10:01because he has cut down the ashra that was by it.
- 10:04Josh said to all who stood against him, Will you contend
- 10:07for Baal, or will you save him? He who will contend for him, let
- 10:11him be put to death by morning. If he is a God, let him contend
- 10:15for himself, because someone has broken down his altar.
- 10:18Therefore on that day he named him Jarabal, saying, Let Baal
- 10:22contend against him, because he has broken down his altar.
- 10:25Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of
- 10:29the East assembled themselves together, and they passed over
- 10:32and encamped in the valley of Jezreel.
- 10:34But Yahweh's spirit came on Gideon, and he blew a trumpet,
- 10:38and Abizar was gathered together to follow him.
- 10:41He sent messengers throughout all Manasseh, and they also were
- 10:44gathered together to follow him. He sent messengers to Asher, to
- 10:48Zebulun, and to Naftali, and they came up to meet them.
- 10:51Gideon said to God, If you will save Israel by my hand as you
- 10:55have spoken, behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the
- 10:58thrashing floor. If there is dew on the fleece
- 11:01only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I'll know that you
- 11:04will save Israel by my hand as you have spoken.
- 11:07It was so, for he rose up early on the next day and pressed the
- 11:11fleece together and wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowl
- 11:14full of water. Gideon said to God, Don't let
- 11:17your anger be kindled against me, and I will speak but this
- 11:20once. Please let me make a trial just
- 11:22this once with the fleece. Let it now be dry only on the
- 11:25fleece and on all the ground let there be dew.
- 11:28God did so that night, for it was dry on the fleece only, and
- 11:32there was dew on all the ground. Then Jerobal, who is Gideon, and
- 11:36all the people who were with him, rose up early and encamped
- 11:39beside the spring of Harrod. Midian's camp was on the north
- 11:42side of them by the hill of Moor in the valley.
- 11:45Yahweh said to Gideon, The people who are with you are too
- 11:48many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest
- 11:50Israel brag against me, saying, My own hand has saved me.
- 11:54Now therefore proclaim in the ears of the people, saying,
- 11:57Whoever is fearful and trembling, let him return and
- 12:00depart from Mount Gilead. So 22,000 of the people returned
- 12:04and 10,000 remained. Yahweh said to Gideon, There are
- 12:08still too many people, bring them down to the water and I
- 12:11will test them for you. There it shall be that those
- 12:13whom I tell you this shall go with you, shall go with you, and
- 12:17whoever I tell you this shall not go with you shall not go.
- 12:20So he brought down the people to the water, and Yahweh said to
- 12:23Gideon, Everyone who laps of the water with his tongue like a dog
- 12:27lapse. You shall set him by himself.
- 12:30Likewise everyone who bows down on his knees to drink.
- 12:33The number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their
- 12:35mouth was 300 men, but all the rest of the people bowed down on
- 12:39their knees to drink water. Yahweh said to Gideon, I will
- 12:43save you by the 300 men who lapped and deliver the
- 12:46Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go,
- 12:49each to his own place. So the people took food in their
- 12:52hand and their trumpets, and he sent all the rest of the men of
- 12:56Israel to their own tents, but retained the 300 men.
- 13:00And the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
- 13:03That same night Yahweh said to him, Arise, go down into the
- 13:06camp, for I have delivered it into your hand.
- 13:09But if you are afraid to go down, go with Pura your servant,
- 13:12down to the camp. You will hear what they say, and
- 13:15afterwards your hands will be strengthened to go down into the
- 13:18camp. Then went he down with Pura his
- 13:20servant, to the outermost part of the armed men who were in the
- 13:23camp. The Midianites and the
- 13:25Amalekites and all the children of the East lay along in the
- 13:28valley like locusts for multitude, and their camels were
- 13:32without number, as the sandwich is on the seashore for
- 13:35multitude. When Gideon had come, behold,
- 13:37there was a man telling a dream to his fellow.
- 13:40He said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and behold, a cake of
- 13:43barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian, came to the tent
- 13:46and struck it so that it fell, and turned it upside down so
- 13:49that the tent lay flat. His fellow answered, This is
- 13:53nothing other than the sword of Gideon the son of Josh, a man of
- 13:56Israel. God has delivered Midian into
- 13:58his hand with all the army. It was so when Gideon heard the
- 14:02telling of the dream and its interpretation that he
- 14:05worshipped. Then he returned into the camp
- 14:07of Israel and said, Arise, for Yahweh has delivered the army of
- 14:11Midian into your hand. He divided the 300 men into
- 14:15three companies, and he put into the hands of all of them
- 14:18trumpets and empty pitchers with torches within the pitchers.
- 14:22He said to them, Watch me and do likewise.
- 14:24Behold, when I come to the outermost part of the camp, it
- 14:27shall be that as I do so you shall do.
- 14:30When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me.
- 14:32Then blow the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and
- 14:35shout for Yahweh and for Gideon. So Gideon and the 100 men who
- 14:40were with him came to the outermost part of the camp in
- 14:42the beginning of the middle watch, when they had but newly
- 14:44set the watch. Then they blew the trumpets and
- 14:47broke in pieces the pitchers that were in their hands.
- 14:50The three companies blew the trumpets, broke the pitchers,
- 14:53and held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in
- 14:56their right hands with which to blow.
- 14:58And they shouted the sword of Yahweh and of Gideon.
- 15:01They each stood in his place around the camp, and all the
- 15:04army ran and they shouted and put them to flight.
- 15:07They blew the 300 trumpets, and Yahweh set every man's sword
- 15:11against his fellow and against all the army.
- 15:14And the army fled as far as Bait Shita, towards Zahra, as far as
- 15:17the border of Abel Mahala by Tabith.
- 15:20The men of Israel were gathered together out of Naftali, out of
- 15:23Asher and out of all Manasseh, and pursued Midian.
- 15:27Gideon sent messengers throughout all the Hill Country
- 15:29of Ephraim saying Come down against Midian and take the
- 15:33waters before them as far as Bait, Bera, even the Jordan.
- 15:37So all the men of Ephraim were gathered together and took the
- 15:40waters as far as Bate, Bara, even the Jordan.
- 15:43They took the 2 Princess of Midian, Orab and Zeb.
- 15:46They killed Orab at Orab's rock and Zeb they killed at Zeb's
- 15:50wine press as they pursued Midian.
- 15:52Then they brought the heads of Orab and Zeb to Gideon beyond
- 15:55the Jordan. Thanks for joining us on Bible
