Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Andrew Dickens: Should Jacinda Ardern come home and front the Covid inquiry?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Question, should Jacindaa do and come home in the year
- 0:02Speaker 1: before the World Commission into our COVID response. I think
- 0:05Speaker 1: she should. I could understand though if she doesn't, because
- 0:08Speaker 1: just as she became the symbol of our successful response
- 0:11Speaker 1: to the pandemic, which we rewarded with a supermajority in
- 0:14Speaker 1: Labour's second term, she also then became the symbol of
- 0:17Speaker 1: everything that we did wrong. And there's a significant number
- 0:20Speaker 1: of people who have been weaponized against the former Prime
- 0:22Speaker 1: minister because of the things they resent, and they want
- 0:24Speaker 1: a hold into account. They want a Nuremberg trial, as
- 0:27Speaker 1: you heard from my text. They want fines, they want jail,
- 0:30Speaker 1: but they won't get that even if she did come back.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is an inquiry about COVID to understand everything they
- 0:36Speaker 1: got wrong as well as everything they got right. Now
- 0:38Speaker 1: I'm sure you cinderad do. And even if her conscience
- 0:41Speaker 1: is completely clear, she would be worried about the consequences
- 0:44Speaker 1: of coming home and being at the front of this investigation,
- 0:47Speaker 1: for her family, for her personal safety, for her own
- 0:50Speaker 1: mental health, and the feeling is that she won't. You
- 0:52Speaker 1: can read between the lines and the recent Women's Weekly
- 0:55Speaker 1: interview that home is not on the raindar but remember
- 0:58Speaker 1: she will not escape the No one will. There's enough
- 1:02Speaker 1: people being called to give us the full and frank
- 1:04Speaker 1: dissection of everything that happened at the beginning of this decade,
- 1:08Speaker 1: and that is important because there will be another pandemic
- 1:12Speaker 1: one day. So anyway, let's get into it, with or
- 1:17Speaker 1: without former Prime Minister just under A. Durn. For more
