- 1:02Speaker 2: I appreciate it. It's been a long time.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Yeah, it's been a long time since you've been here.
- 1:06Speaker 4: The last time you were here was with our good friend, Ruchi. Yeah, 2021.
- 1:09Speaker 4: You guys had an amazing joint album that dropped.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Courtesy of us, yeah.
- 1:13Speaker 4: There was bong smoke, and yeah. Yeah, it was a
- 1:16Speaker 4: good time.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:19Speaker 1: When you look back at yourself back then, because I
- 1:21Speaker 1: feel like you've matured a lot. I feel like you
- 1:23Speaker 1: were definitely on some, like, you were having a lot
- 1:26Speaker 1: of fun back then. Yeah.
- 1:29Speaker 4: You had a reputation.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:31Speaker 4: I feel like you've matured quite a bit, though.
- 1:32Speaker 1: When you look back at your old, like, you know,
- 1:35Speaker 1: interviews or just, like, think about that era. Mm-hmm.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Like, how do you reflect on that era of your career?
- 1:44Speaker 2: I guess, like, myself now looking at it, sometimes it'd
- 1:47Speaker 2: be hard to watch. Like, what the fuck was I doing? But, like,
- 1:53Speaker 2: I guess as the artist. Like, the AZ Chike now
- 1:55Speaker 2: looking at the AZ Chike then is like, what the
- 1:57Speaker 2: fuck was I doing? But just me looking at it,
- 1:59Speaker 2: I'm like, damn, I needed to go through that.
- 2:02Speaker 4: You had to run it.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I had to do what I had to do. I
- 2:04Speaker 2: think that's why I'm able to be so calm now. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I did everything I needed to do. Disrespect, over fun,
- 2:13Speaker 2: being ratchet, getting drunk every day, you name it.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Were you drunk a lot back then?
- 2:19Speaker 2: For sure.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Bottles of tequila?
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah, thinking nothing of it. I remember I had my
- 2:23Speaker 2: first alcohol withdrawal. We was drinking so much. all 2020, like,
- 2:30Speaker 2: COVID year. COVID, we were drinking so much. I remember
- 2:32Speaker 2: one night, I just didn't drink. I started sweating. I
- 2:35Speaker 2: was like, what the fuck? It hit me until the
- 2:38Speaker 2: next day. I'm like, damn, I think I just had
- 2:40Speaker 2: alcohol withdrawal. That's crazy.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Yeah, everybody, like, honestly, COVID is what cracked off the entire, like,
- 2:48Speaker 1: wave of tequila.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:50Speaker 1: It was like, now people were like, I didn't even
- 2:53Speaker 1: know what Casamigos was before COVID.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Nah, facts. I remember you couldn't find, like, No, 42.
- 2:59Speaker 4: The 42, the Casas, all that shit, all cracked.
- 3:02Speaker 2: You couldn't find it in the industry. I was going deep,
- 3:05Speaker 2: like East L.A. We had a liquor store deep East L.A.
- 3:08Speaker 2: that had everything.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Everybody had the PPP money.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I remember people were making records and shooting music videos.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I forget who had the music video at the Bank
- 3:17Speaker 1: of America.
- 3:18Speaker 2: He probably in jail.
- 3:19Speaker 1: No, no.
- 3:20Speaker 4: It's a bigger artist.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Oh, for real?
- 3:21Speaker 3: Yeah, bigger L.A.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Artist. What?
- 3:23Speaker 2: Who was?
- 3:24Speaker 4: But it was definitely... You had to be in L.A.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't remember that one. That's burnt.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I had a homie who was from.
- 3:34Speaker 4: AZ who has, he's free. But he used to come
- 3:37Speaker 4: to L.A., bro. And he would cash out the homeless
- 3:40Speaker 4: dudes for all their info. And he had like three
- 3:43Speaker 4: or four addresses.
- 3:44Speaker 2: He know something.
- 3:45Speaker 1: He had some addresses out here. And like, I remember
- 3:49Speaker 1: he would come to L.A. and just book the studio
- 3:51Speaker 1: for like five days. By the way, the studio business
- 3:54Speaker 1: was booming.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Boomish.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Everybody had fucking money for studios.
- 3:57Speaker 2: It made me so upset.
- 4:00Speaker 4: So upset.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I couldn't get a session for shit. You got to
- 4:02Speaker 2: think about, I'm coming off the 2019 year I was having.
- 4:06Speaker 2: We were fresh off tour with Shoreline. I was able
- 4:09Speaker 2: to book sessions whenever I want. Shout out my boy, Ivy.
- 4:12Speaker 2: He had a studio downtown. It's been a few studios
- 4:18Speaker 2: like that, though, that I feel like I done turned up.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And then after that, like 2020 came, them motherfuckers was booked.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was always, like, because my studio in
- 4:26Speaker 1: North Hollywood, like, we would always have the worst guys
- 4:31Speaker 1: who just were experimenting with music and just, like, setting
- 4:35Speaker 1: money on fire.
- 4:36Speaker 4: And we'd be like, yeah, sure, man. Like, yeah, we'll
- 4:40Speaker 4: give you that.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Is any of them doing good now?
- 4:42Speaker 1: Not a single one.
- 4:43Speaker 2: That's scary.
- 4:44Speaker 4: That's so scary.
- 4:46Speaker 2: There was one dude.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Who was, like, our number one client. He probably spent, like,
- 4:50Speaker 4: $ 25, 000 on our studio and, like, The worst artist. It
- 4:56Speaker 4: was like he was.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Just living out his childhood dreams every night. I don't
- 5:02Speaker 1: know if the music ever came out. My homie sold
- 5:05Speaker 1: him hella beats.
- 5:06Speaker 2: You know what's so crazy? You see a lot of
- 5:09Speaker 2: talk about hip-hop and what rap is today. I promise you,
- 5:13Speaker 2: it's the most imitated and replicated music.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Culture.
- 5:19Speaker 2: For sure.
- 5:20Speaker 4: I feel like it's always been that way.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I was saying in an interview with Cy Hatter Prince,
- 5:23Speaker 2: and he was putting it in terms of how basketball is.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Some niggas go overseas and play in China.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Right.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Some niggas play in the NBA. Some niggas Summer League.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Right.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Some niggas just play recreational at the park.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Some people have a hoop hanging from their office door.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:40Speaker 4: And they shoot paper into it and say Kobe.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Right, right, right. That's what I'm saying. That's what it
- 5:45Speaker 2: is with rap too, but it's like- Yeah, for sure.
- 5:48Speaker 2: It's blurred lines. As soon as I say you rap,
- 5:51Speaker 2: it's like either they think you're absolute shit or you
- 5:54Speaker 2: got to be the biggest.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and the other thing is you'll meet people through
- 5:59Speaker 1: other shit.
- 6:00Speaker 4: This happens to me all the time.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I might meet somebody through the Mushroom Game, and they
- 6:05Speaker 1: won't tell me they're a rapper for six months.
- 6:07Speaker 4: I'll be like, oh, yo, by the way, Kev, you
- 6:10Speaker 4: know I just put a song out. Would you mind
- 6:12Speaker 4: checking it out? And I'm like, you put a song out?
- 6:15Speaker 1: What the fuck are you doing? You already driving a
- 6:18Speaker 1: fucking S500. Why are you trying to rap?
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:23Speaker 4: It's crazy, man.
- 6:24Speaker 2: It's not how it was back in the day. Back
- 6:25Speaker 2: in the day, you rapped because you, you feel me?
- 6:28Speaker 2: I think it's more of a fad now.
- 6:30Speaker 1: How cool has it been for you to see, because
- 6:32Speaker 1: obviously you were a part of that early, like, I
- 6:35Speaker 1: would say, SoundCloud LA era, obviously being on tour with Shoreline,
- 6:40Speaker 1: being around those guys. How cool is it to fast
- 6:43Speaker 1: forward and kind of just see gz and phoenix having
- 6:46Speaker 1: a new moment as the group separately facts you have
- 6:50Speaker 1: in your moment um it feels like there's been a
- 6:53Speaker 1: lot of the guys in that class of la hip-hop
- 6:55Speaker 1: that have kind of stood the test of time and
- 6:57Speaker 1: obviously you're one of them yeah um and like some
- 7:00Speaker 1: of them are obviously the opposite you know.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Yeah uh i think it's beautiful man i remember i
- 7:05Speaker 2: was i was telling the homies in like 2023 like
- 7:09Speaker 2: this is the the sink or swim stage like it's
- 7:13Speaker 2: going to be, you know, stand the test of time.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Only the strong last. I said this in 2023. I
- 7:17Speaker 2: remember drunk, geeked out of my mind in the club,
- 7:22Speaker 2: huddling the homies. Hey!
- 7:23Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:24Speaker 2: These better get right right now. But it's beautiful to see, bro.
- 7:28Speaker 2: And I think it's important too, right? It can be
- 7:31Speaker 2: motivation for our other peers too. This shit's still going on.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Pulled through for sure.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Yeah. For you, can you kind of point to a
- 7:42Speaker 1: moment where you realized it was like, okay, it is
- 7:45Speaker 1: sink or swim time. Was it like something where you
- 7:49Speaker 1: were trying to figure out what the new music was
- 7:52Speaker 1: going to sound like? Maybe you were unsure what the
- 7:55Speaker 1: forecast of the hip hop shit was.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I think it was more personal, the relationships I had
- 8:02Speaker 2: with the homies. After 2022, we didn't separate per se.
- 8:09Speaker 2: But everybody kind of like, you went over there. It
- 8:12Speaker 2: wasn't how we was. Like, we was 30 deep every day.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Right.
- 8:17Speaker 2: And it's everybody, though. It's not like just entourage. It's
- 8:20Speaker 2: like the niggas. Like, you know what I'm saying? And
- 8:22Speaker 2: then everybody kind of separated. And that's when I kind
- 8:24Speaker 2: of felt it. Like, oh, the noise is low. Right. Like,
- 8:28Speaker 2: it's just me now. Like, oh, shit. Like, now I'm
- 8:32Speaker 2: working the trade. Like, you know what I'm saying?
- 8:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I'm licensing, I'm selling pieces of my catalog, I'm running
- 8:38Speaker 2: it up, and as I'm doing it, it hit me.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Rap hustling.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Yeah, like, that's my real estate as I'm doing it,
- 8:42Speaker 2: I'm like, damn, like, oh, like, it's happening, like, right?
- 8:46Speaker 2: I'm watching, that's when 310 Baby came out with Soak City,
- 8:51Speaker 2: and I'm just watching, and I've seen so many waves
- 8:54Speaker 2: of LA, like, you know what I'm saying?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Well, I would say, like, I always said this at
- 8:57Speaker 1: the time, like, you are, like, I would say, like,
- 9:01Speaker 1: the 2020, 2021, even, like, before that everybody felt like
- 9:05Speaker 1: the like la had always had obviously there's exceptions but
- 9:11Speaker 1: la had always had like this division that would always
- 9:17Speaker 1: kind of bring street politics into shit for sure but
- 9:19Speaker 1: i feel like you ruchi one take j you know
- 9:23Speaker 1: like that whole era whether it was greedo before then
- 9:26Speaker 1: with shoreline yourself like everybody kind of felt like they
- 9:29Speaker 1: were kind of moving together.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Everybody was doing songs together.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And it felt like, oh shit, this is like a
- 9:36Speaker 1: really dope, refreshing, fun thing happening in LA and it
- 9:40Speaker 1: ain't no shit where it feels dangerous.
- 9:43Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
- 9:44Speaker 2: You already know, baby.

- 11:05Speaker 2: really looked at that or have been able to really
- 11:08Speaker 2: think about it like that. But, yeah, we definitely had our, like,
- 11:12Speaker 2: movement and moment and time because everybody– And that's why
- 11:16Speaker 2: I always got love for them. I got OTX tatted
- 11:19Speaker 2: on my legs. I love them dudes, but everybody was
- 11:21Speaker 2: on that short line tour.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Right.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Everybody you can think of. Even if we might not
- 11:26Speaker 2: have been on it at the same time.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Who all was on it?
- 11:29Speaker 2: Everybody. I'm not kidding. This is 2019 or 18? This
- 11:33Speaker 2: is 2018 and 19.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Okay.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:36Speaker 4: The Trap-Lanik phase.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yes. Oh, yeah. They don't even call it that anymore.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Yeah, right?
- 11:40Speaker 4: But they did. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:41Speaker 2: The whole studio was named that. I'm like, damn.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Shout out to our boy TK.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Yeah, man. So it was a crazy movement, though, for sure.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Was that like a hard tour to be on and
- 11:52Speaker 4: like be sober?
- 11:54Speaker 2: I don't even think nobody was thinking about being sober.
- 11:57Speaker 2: That wasn't even like.
- 11:59Speaker 4: I could just imagine everybody being fucked up on that tour.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Man, I done seen the homies geek up, like. We
- 12:05Speaker 2: had orange juice, packets of vitamin C, boosted that motherfucker.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Like, yo, don't worry.
- 12:11Speaker 4: We got the vitamin. We got emergency packs.
- 12:13Speaker 3: We're going to be all right.
- 12:14Speaker 2: We had random hotels, 20 deep in a parking lot,
- 12:17Speaker 2: big ass tour bus. It was just crazy times, man.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Good times, though. Again, needed that.
- 12:24Speaker 4: I can imagine. I feel like you get through something
- 12:26Speaker 4: like that, and you're like, all right, I got all
- 12:28Speaker 4: that shit out of my system.
- 12:29Speaker 2: What it don't even feel the same when you do
- 12:32Speaker 2: it you feel dumb like or old yeah like like
- 12:34Speaker 2: hey homie like it's 2026 i got drunk like three
- 12:37Speaker 2: days in a row last week and i was like
- 12:40Speaker 2: first time i drank in like three months i was
- 12:42Speaker 2: like what what the fuck what i'm not i'm 39
- 12:45Speaker 2: so i'm like man i'm.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Cooked like it ain't the same no.
- 12:49Speaker 2: More yeah sometimes you got your moments where it's like Granted,
- 12:53Speaker 2: you know what I mean? I just lean on the shrooms.
- 12:55Speaker 1: If I'm trying to get fucked up and have a
- 12:56Speaker 1: good time, I'll just shroom out and just be on
- 12:59Speaker 1: my own planet.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Shroom's too potent for me. I got to clear the
- 13:03Speaker 2: whole day.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Oh, you got to be at the crib.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Don't nobody text me.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Don't bother me. See, I'll do that shit at a concert.
- 13:10Speaker 2: What? I can't do it. I can't do it.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I was at that Kanye SoFi shit. Just whacked, bro.
- 13:17Speaker 1: In my seat like, this is the greatest shit of
- 13:19Speaker 1: all time.
- 13:20Speaker 4: I'm crying. Fucking crying.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a good trip.
- 13:23Speaker 4: When Kanye did Ghost Town, I fucking shed a tear.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good trip.
- 13:26Speaker 4: I was like, this is amazing.
- 13:28Speaker 2: That's a good trip, though. It's not for everybody, but
- 13:30Speaker 2: if you can pull it off, I recommend it for sure.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Okay, so I saw the artwork for the single, You
- 13:35Speaker 1: and Tyler Look Like My Mama. Now, this is very
- 13:39Speaker 1: directly influenced by one of the greatest comedies of all time,
- 13:43Speaker 1: Napoleon Dynamite.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Yeah. Whose idea was it to lean into the Napoleon
- 13:49Speaker 4: Dynamite theme? Uh.
- 13:51Speaker 2: This coming out Friday, right?
- 13:53Speaker 3: Yeah, this will be out.
- 13:54Speaker 4: The song will already be out.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Oh, okay. Well, it was the director's idea. We actually
- 14:00Speaker 2: reenacted five movies for the video.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Okay.
- 14:03Speaker 2: And we reenacted two of my favorite movies, two of
- 14:07Speaker 2: Tyler's favorite movies, and one movie we both like in common.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Napoleon Dynamite just ended up being one of them. So
- 14:15Speaker 2: we dressed and did the whole shit for all five movies. Napoleon,
- 14:19Speaker 2: Men in Black. Paid in Full, Sinners, and Napoleon. Dead President.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Dead President.
- 14:29Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:29Speaker 2: So we just reenacted all of them. So that's how
- 14:32Speaker 2: it came up. But that was the best picture to me.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Which movies did you pick specifically?
- 14:37Speaker 2: My favorite movies was Dead President.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Great movie.
- 14:42Speaker 2: My movie was Dead President. Dead President. I think we
- 14:47Speaker 2: both picked on Peyton Full, but my shit was Dead Presidents. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 14:57Speaker 2: We both had centers. I think mine was Peyton Full
- 15:02Speaker 2: and Dead Presidents. His was Napoleon and Men in Black,
- 15:07Speaker 2: and then we both came together.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Men in Black's got to be crazy. Y'all get a
- 15:10Speaker 4: pug for that shit?
- 15:12Speaker 2: A what?
- 15:12Speaker 4: A pug. Nah, nah.
- 15:14Speaker 2: We didn't do that scene. We did the scene where he,
- 15:16Speaker 2: at the end, when they shoot the ship out the shot,
- 15:20Speaker 2: the cockroach and all that.
- 15:22Speaker 4: I got to watch this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This feels
- 15:24Speaker 4: like a big budget video. It is.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I told the lady, I said, don't embarrass me in
- 15:28Speaker 2: front of Tyler. Cough that money up.
- 15:30Speaker 1: You have taken a lot of time with putting out
- 15:34Speaker 1: your first major label release in terms of an album. Obviously,
- 15:37Speaker 1: you put out a lot of singles.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 15:40Speaker 1: What was it for you like that was so important
- 15:42Speaker 1: for you to just kind of be meticulous with the
- 15:44Speaker 1: album making process and not because because obviously you know
- 15:48Speaker 1: you had a great moment being on GNX and then
- 15:51Speaker 1: getting signed and you know you did a bunch of
- 15:53Speaker 1: festivals and a lot of people would have just dropped
- 15:57Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying yeah what why was it
- 16:00Speaker 1: important for you to take your time.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Uh I think it was just by natural design man
- 16:05Speaker 2: I think um you know I think I just was
- 16:09Speaker 2: aligned in the universe at the best interest for me.
- 16:12Speaker 2: As far as that, it just was my way of
- 16:14Speaker 2: making history. The album is stacked. You understand what I'm saying?
- 16:17Speaker 2: And when you have so many big names or big
- 16:21Speaker 2: cooks in the kitchen, you got to let them cook.
- 16:23Speaker 2: And no matter how long it take, it's just, you know...
- 16:25Speaker 2: And every time I talk to T or Dot and
- 16:29Speaker 2: them about it, they never like... They're like, don't rush it.
- 16:31Speaker 4: When it's done, it's done.
- 16:33Speaker 2: It could have... Obviously, don't overly take long. But, nigga...
- 16:37Speaker 2: you know, play the chords. So that's what it was,
- 16:40Speaker 2: and it just ended up being done now. And now,
- 16:43Speaker 2: even now, we set shit in play for certain people
- 16:47Speaker 2: around us to, even us, to feel pressure, like, no,
- 16:50Speaker 2: this has to come out.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Niggas forget after, shit, September is holiday season, shit.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Oh, nah, the music industry, like, there's a cutoff point
- 16:58Speaker 1: where it's hard to get a lot of shit done, and.
- 17:01Speaker 4: It's usually, like, November.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Unless you bigger than life.
- 17:05Speaker 4: Yeah, unless you're like fucking The Weeknd.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Unless you're like Kendrick Lamar.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Or Kendrick Lamar dropped GNX in November. The week of
- 17:11Speaker 1: thanks fucking give it. By the way, I was in
- 17:14Speaker 1: fucking Bangkok.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:17Speaker 1: When GNX dropped, we were leaving rolling loud and I
- 17:20Speaker 1: was just like, oh my God!
- 17:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So unless you, you feel me?
- 17:25Speaker 2: But yeah, it worked out for the better. I wouldn't
- 17:28Speaker 2: change anything. So that's really what it was. It was
- 17:30Speaker 2: just so many big cooks. And then, you know, Later on,
- 17:34Speaker 2: I would get hit up by my higher-ups, per se,
- 17:39Speaker 2: and they're just like, hey, we need to go sit
- 17:42Speaker 2: down and go over this album. I'm not going to
- 17:44Speaker 2: tell them no.
- 17:45Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
- 17:46Speaker 2: So that's what it was.
- 17:47Speaker 1: How much of the music do you, if you're working
- 17:51Speaker 1: on some shit, obviously not everybody's got a big homie
- 17:53Speaker 1: like Kendrick and Tyler to get feedback from.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Yeah. How often are you sending them shit just to
- 17:59Speaker 4: check out?
- 18:00Speaker 2: Not often. I've never been that type of dude. I'll
- 18:04Speaker 2: send them certain stuff that they know about already, but
- 18:09Speaker 2: I won't send them nothing I did on my own.
- 18:13Speaker 2: If they make it to the album or something that
- 18:15Speaker 2: they just so happen to get to hear, then yeah.
- 18:17Speaker 2: But other than that, hell no. I've never really been
- 18:19Speaker 2: the type. I came up a lot doing music by myself, recording,
- 18:23Speaker 2: engineering myself. I never really needed nobody to tell me
- 18:26Speaker 2: this was hard. Because you might not give me even
- 18:28Speaker 2: the reaction I'm looking for. You might just spoil this
- 18:30Speaker 2: shit for me. Now I need you to get the
- 18:32Speaker 2: fuck out this studio room. You know what I'm saying?
- 18:35Speaker 2: I don't know. And I'm willing to take that risk.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Even if the shit, God forbid, I never had that happen,
- 18:41Speaker 2: but even if it did come out and it was trash,
- 18:44Speaker 2: I'm willing to take that last. I'm like, okay, cool.
- 18:47Speaker 2: That's straight.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Do you have any of the, I guess, LA class
- 18:54Speaker 1: you're associated with on this new album?
- 18:57Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 18:57Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I think when I think of Shaq,
- 19:00Speaker 4: I think of Kalen. I think of Roach.
- 19:02Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of guys that, you know,
- 19:04Speaker 1: I think of Mike Sherman. I think of Mike Sherman
- 19:06Speaker 1: from the Bay.
- 19:08Speaker 2: What class? I think it's like a new class, if
- 19:13Speaker 2: you ask me. I don't think it's nothing I can
- 19:15Speaker 2: put myself in.
- 19:16Speaker 4: Who's the new class of L.A. you think that's impressed you?
- 19:24Speaker 2: I like Grinch Walk. That's my boy. i like grinch
- 19:29Speaker 2: i'm not uh i like i ain't gonna lie uh
- 19:32Speaker 2: what's his name beezy too janky he hard too they
- 19:36Speaker 2: they they doing their thing i fuck with that shit
- 19:39Speaker 2: uh dave dollar doing her thing too yeah yeah yeah
- 19:46Speaker 2: it's a i'll be watching i'll be listening so yeah
- 19:48Speaker 2: that class, they going crazy for sure.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Talk to me about, like, obviously you've beat the GNX
- 19:56Speaker 1: talk into the wall in every interview you've done in the.
- 19:58Speaker 4: Last two years.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Yeah. But just how crazy is it to be on, like,
- 20:02Speaker 1: because there's a lot of people who are on GNX, but, like,
- 20:05Speaker 1: Peekaboo was, like, the record that, like, Right now, if
- 20:08Speaker 1: you look at the radio chart, it is, like, one
- 20:10Speaker 1: of the biggest recurrence in the country. Like, it's just, like,
- 20:12Speaker 1: you just, it's like a song, if you turn the
- 20:13Speaker 1: radio on, you can't escape it. That has to just
- 20:16Speaker 1: kind of be, like, does it ever get old hearing yourself, like.
- 20:21Speaker 3: On Real 92.3, you know what I'm saying?
- 20:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Or whatever city you're in, like, you're going to hear
- 20:25Speaker 4: the record.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Fuck no. I think I got through that early. But, nah,
- 20:31Speaker 2: it don't get old. I still, you know, it's just
- 20:33Speaker 2: damn near, like, performing, like. You cannot hit the stage
- 20:37Speaker 2: and not perform that unless they ain't pay you enough.
- 20:39Speaker 2: But other than that, you're going to perform. Like, I
- 20:41Speaker 2: have to perform Burn River again at all. Like, that's
- 20:44Speaker 2: just my baby right there. Like, you know what I'm saying? So,
- 20:48Speaker 2: hell no. Hell no. If anything, those are good problems
- 20:51Speaker 2: to have.
- 20:52Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure.
- 20:52Speaker 2: For sure, yeah. 100%, man.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 20:55Speaker 3: You already know Arizona, man.

- 22:15Speaker 1: get into that cab, you get into that Uber, immediately say,
- 22:18Speaker 1: take me to Hardeen. They'll know what they're doing, all right?
- 22:20Speaker 1: They're going to get you right, all right? The number
- 22:22Speaker 1: one premium cannabis dispensary in the world. They just got
- 22:25Speaker 1: me right. I was just in town for Rafi's birthday,
- 22:28Speaker 1: had to pull up, get right, get this nice little

- 22:33Speaker 3: These are not available.
- 22:34Speaker 2: All right.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Shout out to them, man.
- 22:36Speaker 4: All right.

- 22:38Speaker 3: Las Vegas.
- 22:39Speaker 2: All right.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Let's get back to the podcast.
- 22:41Speaker 4: What about a.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Record like Game Time that comes out and feels like
- 22:44Speaker 1: it's a fucking sink wet dream?
- 22:47Speaker 4: I'm just like, oh, this is going to be on 2K.
- 22:49Speaker 1: This shit's going to be on fucking NCAA fucking football.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Yeah. When you made that record, did you kind of
- 22:56Speaker 4: be like, yo, this song needs a sports center joint?
- 23:00Speaker 2: That was... That was one of those records, like, my
- 23:03Speaker 2: team had to, like, convince me. Like, Game Time was
- 23:07Speaker 2: hard to me, but I wasn't thinking about it as
- 23:09Speaker 2: a single. Right. It was hard.
- 23:11Speaker 4: They're like, no, we got to put this out.
- 23:12Speaker 2: And, you know, it did what it was supposed to do.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Madden 2K, like you said. So, yeah. I don't know.
- 23:19Speaker 2: That was just my natural design. That was my first, like,
- 23:22Speaker 2: real sync record.
- 23:24Speaker 1: What was the craziest place you heard that song, or, like,
- 23:27Speaker 1: that that song made it in terms of the sync side?
- 23:29Speaker 4: Where you were just like, oh, this is fucking crazy.
- 23:33Speaker 2: I don't know. It'll probably just be the video games.
- 23:37Speaker 2: The Madden and the 2K. Maybe because I just grew
- 23:40Speaker 2: up on that shit. I think like other, they only
- 23:45Speaker 2: hit the game. Oh, no, I'm lying. Probably, what the
- 23:50Speaker 2: fuck is that show called? Damn, man, I forgot.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Euphoria. Oh, it was on Euphoria?
- 23:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like light in the back.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I ain't gonna lie, I watched the first episode of
- 23:59Speaker 1: the new season, and I was like, just feels like
- 24:03Speaker 1: a different, like.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Don't even feel like euphoria. It feels like it's like
- 24:06Speaker 4: a spinoff where this bitch is like running drugs. You
- 24:09Speaker 4: know what I'm saying?
- 24:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:11Speaker 4: I gotta finish it.
- 24:12Speaker 2: You could tell like this is the end.
- 24:14Speaker 4: No, it's a wrap.
- 24:14Speaker 2: They was ready to kill.
- 24:15Speaker 4: The show off. Everybody, unfortunately, like important people from the
- 24:19Speaker 4: show passed away in real life.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Right, right, right.
- 24:22Speaker 4: You know?
- 24:22Speaker 2: It's really good though. I can't lie. It's really good.
- 24:25Speaker 2: It's really good. I ain't gonna lie. They got like
- 24:27Speaker 2: the strippers in there. I know a few of them
- 24:29Speaker 2: in real life, so.
- 24:30Speaker 4: It was good to support.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Some L.A.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Strippers made the cut, huh?
- 24:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it was good to support the homegirls.
- 24:34Speaker 4: What club?
- 24:35Speaker 3: Sam's?
- 24:36Speaker 2: It's only, what, three clubs? I don't know why you
- 24:39Speaker 2: ask that. We ain't Atlanta. We only got Sam's, Deja Vu's.
- 24:45Speaker 2: cheetahs sometimes they get shut down reopened so fucking much
- 24:48Speaker 2: i heard.
- 24:49Speaker 1: That there's some spots in orange county and like the
- 24:51Speaker 1: city of industry that are solid.
- 24:53Speaker 2: The joint in um hollywood straight to body shop that's
- 24:56Speaker 2: straight don't give me no.
- 24:58Speaker 1: No no i feel like i have you i've only
- 25:01Speaker 1: driven by body shop i've never been i've never been
- 25:03Speaker 1: like brave enough to go into the spot that looks
- 25:05Speaker 1: like it's cool i feel like the girls would be
- 25:08Speaker 1: in there dancing to nickelback just by the.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Outside no no it's it's cool it's cool it's some
- 25:12Speaker 2: it's some some hip-hop shit so yeah i mean it's good.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I miss uh i miss crazy girls which was right
- 25:18Speaker 1: what like right across from.
- 25:20Speaker 2: The berries that was the spot definitely next to the
- 25:23Speaker 2: berries with the lobster yeah what an era berries was
- 25:27Speaker 2: huh yeah real good.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Are we ever gonna retire bossa nova here as like
- 25:31Speaker 1: the go-to like studio food I.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Don't think we are. I think the bitches love Bossa Nova.
- 25:38Speaker 2: That shit ain't going nowhere.
- 25:39Speaker 4: Everybody in LA, they come here. I don't care what
- 25:42Speaker 4: session I'm in. Like, y'all order Bossa Nova.
- 25:44Speaker 1: I'm like, damn, Bossa Nova's had a fucking run that
- 25:47Speaker 1: has outlasted COVID.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Yeah, they still here. They still here. The one downtown,
- 25:51Speaker 2: we going crazy.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Someone got smoked at that one. For real?
- 25:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 25:55Speaker 4: See? But that's the thing.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Bossa Nova's the spot that, like, the one in Hollywood, specifically.
- 26:01Speaker 1: You really just can't just pull up for real if
- 26:03Speaker 1: you got some smoke because you don't know who you're
- 26:05Speaker 1: going to run into over there.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I only mentioned that one like twice, though. The other
- 26:09Speaker 2: one they shut down, that was the best bossing over
- 26:11Speaker 2: ever next to the Louis Bottega, Bottega Louis joint.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Yeah, no.
- 26:17Speaker 2: That one right there where you can sit outside and eat,
- 26:19Speaker 2: they closed it down. That was the best one, 2020.
- 26:21Speaker 1: No Rest for the Wicked, September 18th. Can you break
- 26:25Speaker 1: down the album.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Cover and the significance?
- 26:27Speaker 2: Yeah. People is crazy. One nigga said the cover looked paused.
- 26:34Speaker 2: I said, damn. That's OD. That's my grandma. That's my grandma, bro.
- 26:41Speaker 2: But she was just... She's just the epitome of.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Someone said the cover looked paused.
- 26:46Speaker 2: It looked paused. Look, so.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I picked that picture because she fits the name of that, right?
- 26:55Speaker 2: No Rest for the Wicked is basically... Bad shit is
- 26:58Speaker 2: always going to happen. And it's up to you how
- 27:00Speaker 2: you distribute your energy. And it was a lot of
- 27:03Speaker 2: bad shit happening for her at that time. But in
- 27:05Speaker 2: that picture, you can't tell. Her head tilted back. She
- 27:08Speaker 2: got the blood in her hand. But she was on
- 27:11Speaker 2: hard drugs. Her daughter, my mother, attended to that. My
- 27:18Speaker 2: mother sold hard drugs. We grew up in the crack era.
- 27:22Speaker 2: It was either right before... It was either right before...
- 27:27Speaker 2: or during when she found out she had breast cancer.
- 27:30Speaker 2: And that's why I chose that one again. She got
- 27:32Speaker 2: the pink shirt on. It just, that picture was yelling
- 27:35Speaker 2: at me. Like, you know what I'm saying? And, um,
- 27:38Speaker 2: through all the bad shit, she never stopped loving us though.
- 27:41Speaker 2: You understand what I'm saying? And I would know that
- 27:43Speaker 2: because shit, my mama would leave me with her to
- 27:45Speaker 2: babysit all the time. Like, you know what I'm saying?
- 27:47Speaker 2: But she was still looking out for my mama, looking
- 27:50Speaker 2: out for me and my uncle, which is probably her
- 27:52Speaker 2: favorite person on this earth. You get what I'm saying? So,
- 27:55Speaker 2: I think she just fit the name perfectly. It didn't
- 27:57Speaker 2: have to be all artsy and no rest for the wicked,
- 28:01Speaker 2: devils and claws and angels. It don't need to be
- 28:04Speaker 2: all that. You know what I'm saying? It was just
- 28:05Speaker 2: a representation. And now my grandma is immortal. She get
- 28:09Speaker 2: to live through the music forever. I texted my uncle
- 28:12Speaker 2: the other day and I told him she would lose
- 28:16Speaker 2: her mind on how famous her face is going to be.
- 28:19Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? He's like, yeah, she probably
- 28:20Speaker 2: would cry. Her birthday was Sunday and I posted the
- 28:23Speaker 2: cover Monday. You know what I'm saying? So it holds
- 28:26Speaker 2: special value, but I'm not going to do all that
- 28:28Speaker 2: fucking explaining on the internet. You know what I'm saying?
- 28:30Speaker 4: So, yeah. Yeah, no. That had to be like, yo, fam,
- 28:33Speaker 4: it's my grandma. Why are you pausing this shit?
- 28:36Speaker 2: I was like, damn.
- 28:37Speaker 4: Do you think that's me?
- 28:38Speaker 2: I said, damn, Granny was on that stuff. She looked skinny.
- 28:42Speaker 2: You might think it was a dude with a little shirt.
- 28:44Speaker 2: I'm like, damn, they got my grandma fucked up. That
- 28:47Speaker 2: is so funny. But it's good to let people speculate
- 28:52Speaker 2: and have fun and have their think pieces on. I
- 28:54Speaker 2: don't take it personally.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Tell me for you, man, is there anything that you
- 28:59Speaker 1: were inspired by musically for this project?
- 29:03Speaker 4: Because I just talked to somebody.
- 29:05Speaker 1: My boy said he just was diving into Prince and
- 29:07Speaker 1: a bunch of old shit while he was recording his album.
- 29:11Speaker 4: Was there any.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Musical inspiration that happened during this process that you could
- 29:17Speaker 1: kind of pull from?
- 29:19Speaker 2: A lot did. In the beginning, it wasn't random. It
- 29:22Speaker 2: was just where I was. But in the beginning, I
- 29:24Speaker 2: didn't have a clear intention. Just free ball and whatever,

- 29:34Speaker 2: it did. More so now. Now that I'm done with
- 29:38Speaker 2: the album, I'm deep diving. into other shit. Roy Ayers
- 29:42Speaker 2: and shit like that. Just real jazzy shit. It resets

- 30:16Speaker 2: Snoop debut. I have some homework to do, so those
- 30:20Speaker 2: definitely played a big part in the vulnerable records on
- 30:24Speaker 2: the album, giving me confidence.
