- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to the Notable podcast, the podcast where
- 0:09Speaker 1: we talk about network, but we talk about so much more.
- 0:11Speaker 1: And I am Carolyn Swindell and this is week one
- 0:14Speaker 1: of the post Fretwell world that we find ourselves having
- 0:17Speaker 1: to cope with now. I think that we'll be able
- 0:20Speaker 1: to do it if we manage to get through the
- 0:22Speaker 1: loss of David Bowie as a species. I think we
- 0:24Speaker 1: can cope with this, but it's a tough one. I
- 0:26Speaker 1: am joined here today by.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Kath Cox, who's all rugged up. You've got a T
- 0:30Speaker 2: shirt on.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Yes, well i've been. I did have a cardigan on
- 0:33Speaker 1: until a moment ago, and up on the far North Coast.
- 0:38Speaker 3: I'm far North Coast. I'm laughing at Katherine or ragged
- 0:41Speaker 3: out there. It's been like it's got shades of wearing
- 0:43Speaker 3: socks with your heels at the Grand Final.
- 0:46Speaker 1: It's not that bad.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I do feel like the Michelin man in.
- 0:48Speaker 3: This Path of Jacket but oh funny, but I do
- 0:50Speaker 3: feel like we stepped fretwell. Retiring it gives a whole
- 0:54Speaker 3: new nuance to when you're fretting.
- 0:55Speaker 2: That's it does. And they'll be fretting because they need
- 0:59Speaker 2: a third goalshooter.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that's interesting. What's so what was that Half an
- 1:04Speaker 1: hour after we finished recording on Tuesday, the Danell Wallam
- 1:06Speaker 1: announcement came. I put a post up the other day
- 1:09Speaker 1: and said, as at this time one forty or whatever
- 1:11Speaker 1: time it was, here's where we're at with who's got Spot.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Nine minutes later my post was out of date. So
- 1:17Speaker 1: that's why we don't really we can't speculate here because
- 1:20Speaker 1: we're just not fast enough.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Yeah, but there's been a lot happening, hasn't there. There's
- 1:23Speaker 2: now the majority of the silver Ferns signed up in
- 1:27Speaker 2: that one week as well, because I don't think any
- 1:28Speaker 2: of them were confirmed when we had the chat last week.
- 1:31Speaker 1: No, I think that's right. And I said, are we
- 1:33Speaker 1: going to have two or we going to have six?
- 1:35Speaker 1: And you said it'll be more like six and six
- 1:36Speaker 1: so far. So Daryl Milton has dubbed them the fire Ferns,
- 1:41Speaker 1: which is quite an interesting little one.
- 1:43Speaker 2: My preference preface this by saying, firstly, I absolutely love
- 1:49Speaker 2: that we are without doubt the strongest league in the world.
- 1:51Speaker 2: There is no question now now that New Zealand's able
- 1:54Speaker 2: to come and play. I also love the fact that
- 1:57Speaker 2: I get to talk about these athletes and see them
- 1:59Speaker 2: play every week, Like, how good to have all of
- 2:02Speaker 2: them over here and be able to see what they
- 2:03Speaker 2: can bring to the court. I do, however, think that
- 2:07Speaker 2: five imports in one team is too many. If we
- 2:12Speaker 2: had maybe twelve in a side, it probably wouldn't be
- 2:15Speaker 2: as unpalatable. But just it's fifty percent of the team.
- 2:19Speaker 1: What's feet I had four last year.
- 2:21Speaker 2: And Thunderbirds will have four as well going forward. But
- 2:25Speaker 2: I mean, aside from all of that, I just can't
- 2:27Speaker 2: wait to see them all and what they can bring.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Imagine all the new skills and the ways of playing
- 2:33Speaker 2: and the key we stuff that's going to creep in,
- 2:35Speaker 2: you know, all the defensive stuff they're so good at.
- 2:38Speaker 2: It's going to be unreal. So much new stuff to
- 2:40Speaker 2: talk about. Be cool.
- 2:41Speaker 3: I'm excited.
- 2:42Speaker 1: So I did flag something, but just before we got
- 2:45Speaker 1: on air, I said, I have huge news. I do
- 2:49Speaker 1: have huge news. Actually I'm buying ten mcflurries tonight. Yes,
- 2:54Speaker 1: there was a win in the last game. Well, there
- 2:57Speaker 1: was a drawing that came back from twelve twelve four
- 3:01Speaker 1: down and they won nineteen all. And it's like and
- 3:04Speaker 1: all season I've managed to keep myself nice with the swearing.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And then we're standing in a circle at the end
- 3:10Speaker 1: of the game. It was really lovely. The coach and
- 3:12Speaker 1: the other team came across and they've finished the season first,
- 3:15Speaker 1: and she came across and she said, Goes, you have
- 3:17Speaker 1: had the roughest season, but you are I've played you
- 3:21Speaker 1: in past seasons. You are all great netballers. Stay with
- 3:23Speaker 1: it. It was a really lovely moment. They came over and
- 3:26Speaker 1: this is Duty, who I've had a great relationship with
- 3:28Speaker 1: for several years. But it was just it was really nice.
- 3:30Speaker 1: And then I gathered my girls around and we're having
- 3:32Speaker 1: a bit of a chat and I was talking about
- 3:33Speaker 1: how proud I was of them, and I started had
- 3:36Speaker 1: a bit of a tear, and then one of them said,
- 3:38Speaker 1: do we get mcflurries, And of course I went, of course,
- 3:41Speaker 1: yet effing mcflurriy's. Oh sorry, kids, of course you get mcflurries. Yeah.
- 3:46Speaker 1: So I'm buying mcflurri's today because we finished with a draw,
- 3:49Speaker 1: a completely not a win all season.
- 3:53Speaker 2: And are you saying against the top team, Yeah.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Yeah, and I shoot.
- 3:57Speaker 1: So halfway through the season, I took one of the
- 3:59Speaker 1: girls out of goalkeeper and I said, you're now our shooter.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Go and learn how to shoot. So she's been in
- 4:06Speaker 1: a really tough position for the entire season and she
- 4:08Speaker 1: has improved. And in this fourth quarter of our final game,
- 4:12Speaker 1: she could not miss it.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Just couldn't hit water, could hit water. She fell out
- 4:17Speaker 2: of a boat.
- 4:17Speaker 1: But yeah, it was so great. It was such a
- 4:19Speaker 1: such a great thing. And you know, I reflected the
- 4:21Speaker 1: parents were wonderful for the whole season, and the girls
- 4:24Speaker 1: never turned on one another, They never blamed one another,
- 4:27Speaker 1: they never did anything except just keep sort of talking
- 4:31Speaker 1: about what people did.
- 4:32Speaker 2: That was great and you should take that as a Winelius.
- 4:38Speaker 1: That's a win. So when I say huge news, huge
- 4:41Speaker 1: news in my little world, but you know, huge news.
- 4:44Speaker 1: It was great. It was great, a really fabulous way
- 4:47Speaker 1: to end a tough season.
- 4:49Speaker 3: It'll bring and it'll bring them back next year. Finish
- 4:51Speaker 3: the season on a win or a draw. That's as
- 4:54Speaker 3: good as a win. I'll be back next year.
- 4:56Speaker 2: It was your last game.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Well, and this was my objective when about halfway through
- 4:59Speaker 1: the seas and I thought, look, we're not playing finals here.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I thought, all I want to do is because they're
- 5:03Speaker 1: all finishing primary school this year, so it's a big
- 5:06Speaker 1: risk time for them to fall out of the game,
- 5:08Speaker 1: and I just thought, my objective here is for them
- 5:11Speaker 1: to enjoy the season and enjoy their netball and keep
- 5:14Speaker 1: focusing in a positive way. So tick for me, KPI. Yeah, yeah,
- 5:20Speaker 1: thank you. And you are playing finals.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Yes, we do get to play finals this week. However,
- 5:24Speaker 2: coach of the year over here is not going to
- 5:26Speaker 2: be there going away. Just booked it, not thinking anything
- 5:31Speaker 2: about finals being on at a certain time of year
- 5:33Speaker 2: or anything else. That they'll be right. I just said
- 5:35Speaker 2: to them, just you have to win one game so
- 5:37Speaker 2: week aus half is going to miss it too, obviously,
- 5:39Speaker 2: so we can get back and play the next week
- 5:41Speaker 2: of finals and then it happens after that.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Do that you can't do that?
- 5:45Speaker 1: Sure you can.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Well, it's happening. It's character building. They can do it
- 5:51Speaker 2: without me very easily.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Don't you have it in your calcumber.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm not. I'm not missing a trip away
- 5:58Speaker 2: for netball under tens. I'm sorry.
- 6:02Speaker 3: I love it.
- 6:02Speaker 1: It's important for the girls.
- 6:04Speaker 2: They'll be fine. There's a thousand other people there to
- 6:07Speaker 2: coach them.
- 6:08Speaker 1: She's coach shaming you after last week saying she'd be
- 6:10Speaker 1: a terrible coach.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that's fine, she can coach, shame me.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I don't like I'm a coach, and I wouldn't leave
- 6:16Speaker 3: my team for the finals.
- 6:17Speaker 2: There you go. Well, I'm going to see my family,
- 6:19Speaker 2: which is far more important at this point in time.
- 6:21Speaker 3: That is true. You are correct there. Yeah, I thought
- 6:23Speaker 3: you were going on like some resort holiday.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Can in that.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Case, let's take it door back. Yes, you can go
- 6:29Speaker 3: and see your family.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Thank you, appreciate it.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Very nice. So what have you been doing? You said
- 6:33Speaker 1: you had a pay for us.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Well, so it's that wonderful time of year, and I
- 6:38Speaker 2: know we've spoken about this before Christmas.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Funnily enough, it was no hot cross buns in the stores.
- 6:43Speaker 2: No, No, it's another wonderful time of year where parents
- 6:47Speaker 2: are stressed, kids are stressed, but it ends up being
- 6:51Speaker 2: okay on the day. So this morning we had book weeks.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Book week, Oh my gosh, and this year we had
- 7:01Speaker 2: to work backwards because every book we pulled out, I
- 7:04Speaker 2: said to Hapa, what about this one? What about this one?
- 7:05Speaker 2: What about this one? No, how embarrassing, I'm not dressing up.
- 7:08Speaker 2: So now there's this whole thing around. She's got to
- 7:10Speaker 2: look good. Yeah, she's past the stage of I'll put
- 7:13Speaker 2: on a dog face makeup and in ears and stuff
- 7:17Speaker 2: like that. So she had to look good, and I said,
- 7:18Speaker 2: for God's sake, all right, then you tell me what's
- 7:21Speaker 2: okay to get dressed up as, and we'll work backwards.
- 7:24Speaker 2: So she's like, I think a cowgirl would be cute.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Oh God, all right. So we ordered the cowgirl stuff
- 7:31Speaker 2: we needed and had the whole plans.
- 7:32Speaker 1: She said a book about strippers that she's she's going out.
- 7:36Speaker 2: It's a bit of a worry, isn't it. And then
- 7:38Speaker 2: we had to google a book to find a book
- 7:40Speaker 2: that would so we work completely backwards. Anyway. She loved
- 7:43Speaker 2: her self off. She tute all this morning, all done up,
- 7:46Speaker 2: and it's just the funniest morning, particularly when you see
- 7:49Speaker 2: all the kindy kids and the levels of work that's
- 7:53Speaker 2: some of the parents clearly about too. There was a
- 7:55Speaker 2: full paper mache rocket ship this morning.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Nice yeah, nice.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Crazy, But I just love I love it, so it's
- 8:02Speaker 2: just so fun.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I was really happy when our little school went to
- 8:06Speaker 1: alternate years for book weeks. That's good.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Surely there's a shelf life on this though I can't
- 8:13Speaker 2: see them being into it next year or the year after.
- 8:15Speaker 2: There were you four at the moment. It was hard
- 8:17Speaker 2: work this year, like just embrace it, get your mates together.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I feel like if they do a group thing, then they.
- 8:24Speaker 1: There's a lot of the group thing that goes on
- 8:26Speaker 1: in year five and year six the girls, so there's
- 8:29Speaker 1: very many Thing one and Thing two and crayon.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Yes, oh god, there was like ten sets of crayons
- 8:34Speaker 2: this morning. Yeah, yeah, whatever floats they vote.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Yeah. And then Evelyn, when you had just read Man
- 8:40Speaker 3: Proud's grace on the Court books that she just went
- 8:42Speaker 3: as a network player, which suited Hurt.
- 8:44Speaker 2: We had this conversation. I'm like, for God's sake, Harbor,
- 8:47Speaker 2: there's like three Nipplers have now written books. Come on,
- 8:50Speaker 2: we could make this so easy on everybody.
- 8:59Speaker 3: So look, I think you think you've had a rough
- 9:02Speaker 3: sort of time abot Catherine getting half a sort of
- 9:05Speaker 3: a book week, But it sounds like you've got a solution.
- 9:08Speaker 3: I wouldn't mind getting her up here to the farm, though,
- 9:10Speaker 3: I could have done with the cowgirl. This morning had
- 9:13Speaker 3: five escape cows and their calves. They were jumped fences,
- 9:16Speaker 3: and I think It's always surprising when I tell people
- 9:18Speaker 3: about cows jumping fences, because as it's a it's quite
- 9:23Speaker 3: an amazing thing to see, like the whole cow and udder.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Just like, well, some cows can jump over the moon,
- 9:29Speaker 1: so this is true.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Well do you know, like you hear about that. You
- 9:33Speaker 3: go a lot when you move to the country and
- 9:34Speaker 3: you see a cow jumping over a fence. You're like, oh,
- 9:37Speaker 3: I can see now how you might think in a
- 9:38Speaker 3: nursery around the cow will jump over the moon because
- 9:40Speaker 3: when they're sort of sort of amazing in full flight,
- 9:43Speaker 3: it's a whole mess of body to move, and they
- 9:45Speaker 3: move it. So we've got five cows who are part Brahman,
- 9:48Speaker 3: so they're a little bit fancy nuts. Yeah. Anyway, we
- 9:54Speaker 3: also call them the kangaroo, so they are the kangaroo
- 9:56Speaker 3: heard and they have a propensity for just jumping fences
- 10:00Speaker 3: And what did they see?
- 10:01Speaker 2: What did they what did they want to get out for?
- 10:04Speaker 3: Well, I didn't. I think they just think at this
- 10:06Speaker 3: time of the year, it's the end of winter, even
- 10:09Speaker 3: though I've had plenty of ranks being colors, but the
- 10:10Speaker 3: grass is not crying, so the grass is always greener.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Catherine oh to find that out.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I'm a little worried about why their cows want to
- 10:18Speaker 1: escape cat Do you think that they're being looked after
- 10:20Speaker 1: properly or is there some type of detention center that
- 10:23Speaker 1: the meat trains running up there.
- 10:24Speaker 2: For the cows, it's because they see all their mates
- 10:27Speaker 2: disappear and never come back. Their children. Oh gosh, they're
- 10:34Speaker 2: making some great rissoles.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Oh, they do make great wrissoles. Anyway, So we got
- 10:39Speaker 3: the kids on the bus and I was about to
- 10:40Speaker 3: come home and do some exercise and have coffee and
- 10:43Speaker 3: have some breakfast, and Matthew Raymond's that I need to down here.
- 10:46Speaker 3: So there I was in my my at leisure gear
- 10:49Speaker 3: and my work boots, running through paddocks and jumping fences,
- 10:54Speaker 3: and eventually we got these five cows around and into
- 10:58Speaker 3: back into our place and Matthew hobbled in. I was like, right,
- 11:03Speaker 3: I'm done. I'm so I came up the house and
- 11:06Speaker 3: then the meat tray hobbled in about twenty minutes later,
- 11:10Speaker 3: and he's toy his hamstring. So he's got ice, one
- 11:13Speaker 3: of those ice and easies, one of my old ice,
- 11:15Speaker 3: and Easy's got it out, put it on the hamming.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Hey, you like, are you ever scared that they're going
- 11:19Speaker 2: to charge you?
- 11:20Speaker 3: Because they're huge, they are massive. If they decided to
- 11:24Speaker 3: charge you, they will absolutely do your damage. They really
- 11:28Speaker 3: only charge you if you get yourself between them and
- 11:31Speaker 3: their baby. And that was a concern this morning because
- 11:34Speaker 3: they had calves that we were trying to move as well.
- 11:36Speaker 3: So you just have to be there's a way to
- 11:38Speaker 3: move cows without running at them. You can't run at them,
- 11:41Speaker 3: that's just that just scares them. And you don't want
- 11:43Speaker 3: to scare them. You want to sort of get them
- 11:45Speaker 3: to move, and so you sort of have to move it.
- 11:48Speaker 3: They want to move in a circle, so you sort
- 11:50Speaker 3: of have to work with that. But anyhow, it was very,
- 11:53Speaker 3: very stressful.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Oh no, Paul Matthew.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Yeah, these be broken, he zubbling off.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Oh no, And so he's still able to walk? Is
- 12:01Speaker 1: he is? How bad do you think it is?
- 12:04Speaker 3: Well, I don't know. I don't know. If it's like
- 12:06Speaker 3: man hamstring is like man flu.
- 12:09Speaker 1: It didn't work you at all, so it should be fine.
- 12:12Speaker 3: I'm fine. Yes, Katy, if you could spend half her
- 12:16Speaker 3: up in her cowgo gear, I think she'd be a
- 12:18Speaker 3: welcome edition.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I'm on it the city slicker, I'll send her up.
- 12:21Speaker 3: You know she'd be like, oh spider yeah.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Would do you remember that scene in Mean Girls? Where
- 12:29Speaker 1: do you remember Mean Girls? Yeah, with the original Lindsay
- 12:32Speaker 1: Lohan And she goes to the Halloween party and she's
- 12:35Speaker 1: looking like a zombie bride or something, and then gets
- 12:38Speaker 1: there and all the girls are in like sexy Halloween outfits. Like,
- 12:41Speaker 1: I think that's starting to hit earlier and earlier. So
- 12:44Speaker 1: you know, this is my daughter at twelve has a
- 12:46Speaker 1: skin care regime. I don't have a skin care regime.
- 12:49Speaker 1: It's in the morning. She'll put her face in a
- 12:52Speaker 1: bowl of iced water and so it just wakes up
- 12:56Speaker 1: the skin and tightens the paws. It's like, your paws
- 12:59Speaker 1: are never going to be this type.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Come on, yeah, it.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Just embrace that.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Wow.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I know it's scary though, isn't it. That's why I
- 13:05Speaker 2: think next year, what is going to be happening for
- 13:07Speaker 2: book Week? You're right, they'll be.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Yeah. That's why I was glad when they dropped it
- 13:11Speaker 1: to every second week. And the great thing is about
- 13:13Speaker 1: I'll be a long while ago now because my kids.
- 13:15Speaker 1: This will be the twelfth year that I've had a
- 13:17Speaker 1: child at this primary school. But it's a long time
- 13:20Speaker 1: ago they went. The easter hats get made in class
- 13:23Speaker 1: and the buddy classes do it together, and so you
- 13:27Speaker 1: can send a limited amount of craft supplies, but the
- 13:29Speaker 1: kids have to do it themselves and it's been the
- 13:31Speaker 1: greatest thing because it's not a competitive thing anymore. It
- 13:34Speaker 1: gets made in class, So they are the dodgiest easter
- 13:37Speaker 1: hats you're ever going to see. But that's what I
- 13:39Speaker 1: want to say. What is the easter hat thing? Like?
- 13:43Speaker 2: What is that easter bonnet parade?
- 13:45Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 13:45Speaker 2: But what is that? Yeah? Who knows? It's just arts
- 13:48Speaker 2: and crafts.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I don't know, but I feel like it's a bit
- 13:51Speaker 3: like a holiday sometimes, like the enjoyment is in the anticipation.
- 13:54Speaker 3: The actual parade itself is a bit naff.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, they just walk around.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Yeah, So anyway, every second year sounds like a great idea.
- 14:03Speaker 3: I might feed that in at my school.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yes, but look, anything we can do to get the
- 14:07Speaker 1: competitiveness out of primary school dress up events, I'm all
- 14:11Speaker 1: in favor of. Suddenly, now it's a year six formal.
- 14:15Speaker 1: It's not a year six dance or anything. It's a
- 14:18Speaker 1: year six formal and now we're having to get hair
- 14:21Speaker 1: and makeup and stuff brought into.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Two years, yes are they? Yeah?
- 14:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's insane.
- 14:28Speaker 2: I blame TikTok for everything. Yeah not, but they're on that.
- 14:31Speaker 2: But I don't know. It just filters down, doesn't it.
- 14:33Speaker 2: So Carper came home the other day, Oh my god, Mom,
- 14:36Speaker 2: I've got to watch this movie. Everyone's talking about it
- 14:39Speaker 2: at school. So I'll probably get this wrong, like K
- 14:42Speaker 2: pop Demon Hunters or something. Is that what it is?
- 14:44Speaker 1: I don't know. I know exactly the movie you're talking about.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I don't know what the cropper name is. Yeah, but
- 14:48Speaker 1: that's what one or two kids has watched this and
- 14:50Speaker 1: started talking about.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Now it's filtered through the whole school, which is I
- 14:53Speaker 2: have to watch it because I don't know what everyone's
- 14:55Speaker 2: talking about. Ye oh my god. We back in my day.
- 14:58Speaker 2: We had marbles back in my day.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Hey, hey, it's Saturday and we talk about that on
- 15:04Speaker 1: a Monday.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Yeah that's true.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Anyway, we sound like very old at the moment. I
- 15:09Speaker 1: want to talk about netball. So you know, on Saturday
- 15:13Speaker 1: there was not one single announcement, and I don't think
- 15:17Speaker 1: that's fair because I have been now trained over the
- 15:21Speaker 1: last two weeks to expect something big landing every day,
- 15:25Speaker 1: and I think that eight clubs should coordinate to give
- 15:28Speaker 1: me that little dopamine hit every day of the twenty
- 15:32Speaker 1: one day period. Because what I'm just messaging back and
- 15:35Speaker 1: forth to Daryl and Donner, like what what are we like?
- 15:38Speaker 1: Let's talk about EpoR because no one's giving us any announcements.
- 15:41Speaker 2: But some days your head's been blown off.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Some days my head has been blown off. The biggest
- 15:46Speaker 1: surprise Steph Okay was it?
- 15:49Speaker 3: No?
- 15:49Speaker 2: No, I'm not not from I knew that was coming.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I think that was the biggest bombshell for a lot
- 15:55Speaker 1: of people. Though a lot of people are going, what's
- 15:57Speaker 1: happening with Steph? What's happening? Why is she not been signed?
- 15:59Speaker 1: Why she's not been signed? So by the time she retired,
- 16:02Speaker 1: I don't know how surprising it was. But that's a
- 16:05Speaker 1: big change, isn't it. I haven't spoken to Gordy, but
- 16:07Speaker 1: she'll be very upset. She'll have to find a new favorite.
- 16:10Speaker 2: She'll be excited too that Steph gets to go on
- 16:12Speaker 2: to the next chapter in life because she's given it
- 16:15Speaker 2: so much. What a legend, what an absolute legend. There's
- 16:18Speaker 2: not many players in the game like her. We've spoken
- 16:20Speaker 2: about that before and I hope she just goes and
- 16:23Speaker 2: enjoy some fabulous family time or whatever she's planning on doing.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Now, are you still rocking the same flip phone case
- 16:30Speaker 1: that she gave you some brief.
- 16:32Speaker 2: For No, no, no, I kept that for a couple
- 16:34Speaker 2: of weeks and then.
- 16:34Speaker 1: You've changed it. See Steph Rettwell making changes even amongst
- 16:38Speaker 1: the No Dribble host community. If you haven't listened to that.
- 16:41Speaker 1: In our summer series, we had a great conversation with
- 16:43Speaker 1: Steph Frettwell and Kav pulled out her phone to ask
- 16:46Speaker 1: Steph the stand up questions that she asked everyone when
- 16:49Speaker 1: they have to get into her Coxy's hot box, and
- 16:52Speaker 1: Steph couldn't stop laughing at your slimming bone case.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Bags me bag the hosts of the the podcast you
- 17:00Speaker 2: go on to. I liked it.
- 17:02Speaker 1: I think it was entirely consistent with the tone we
- 17:05Speaker 1: were setting. But we've still got as at this point
- 17:09Speaker 1: in time, we've still got four teams that have space
- 17:12Speaker 1: left in there, or if there is it three now
- 17:14Speaker 1: because the Giants announced someone yesterday from New.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Zealand, it's also not Jane Watson.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Jane Watson. So is that there ten?
- 17:25Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know. I know the Swifts have got
- 17:27Speaker 2: a couple of holes.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Still, yeah, Swifts have got some holes.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Well, the Lightning would have a shooter hole. Still yeah,
- 17:33Speaker 2: there's not many though. They're filling up, aren't they.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I wonder how Riley Batcheldore is thinking, whether she was
- 17:38Speaker 1: ship that she had stayed in the On the.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Same there was quite the juicy deal for Riley Batcheldoor.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Nice.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I think it's exciting for Yeah, no movement on the
- 17:48Speaker 1: coach front this past week. There's not been actually a
- 17:51Speaker 1: couple of big coaches still to be named.
- 17:53Speaker 3: And they don't fall within that twenty one day signing period,
- 17:56Speaker 3: so we might have some might have.
- 17:59Speaker 2: No.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Of course, it's just the players, isn't it. I mean,
- 18:02Speaker 3: I'm saying that without any knowledge, but I'm assuming that
- 18:05Speaker 3: you can. You just have to submit your teams. You
- 18:07Speaker 3: don't have to submit the coaches, do you.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I actually noticed people were circulating the Giants assistant coach
- 18:13Speaker 2: role that was on online, yeah, for people to apply for.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I thought that was just they were circulating it for
- 18:19Speaker 1: me to apply for. It was my take on that. No,
- 18:22Speaker 1: I told you I'm out for coaching. I'm taking it
- 18:24Speaker 1: like Simone mckinnis, I'm taking a year off coaching.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Assistant coach role. You can do it at that mcflurries
- 18:29Speaker 2: all around again.
- 18:30Speaker 1: I think that they frown on the can of gin
- 18:33Speaker 1: during the netball game.
- 18:34Speaker 2: So yeah, you might have to abstain until the game's over.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I don't see how that's any fun. I'm
- 18:44Speaker 1: very happy with my netball watching paradigm. I have a
- 18:47Speaker 1: lovely time. I take a photo of you working and
- 18:51Speaker 1: then I just sit back and relax.
- 18:53Speaker 2: How good. I went to the footy yesterday. Had not
- 18:56Speaker 2: been able to go to a Swan's game all Sea.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I did, actually I worked at one right at the
- 19:00Speaker 2: start of the year with these, but I haven't been
- 19:02Speaker 2: to a game. And I'm an ambassador for the Swans,
- 19:04Speaker 2: but every single game that they're at home during the year,
- 19:07Speaker 2: there's netball on and I can't get to. So I
- 19:09Speaker 2: went to a game yesterday and sat in the crowd
- 19:12Speaker 2: with a drink and watched it. I thought, this is
- 19:15Speaker 2: the first game of sport that I've done this for
- 19:18Speaker 2: in a very long time. It was so good. It
- 19:21Speaker 2: fell was a very civilized crowd.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Now you know why people turn up and go to
- 19:25Speaker 3: these things.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yes, And it was such a beautiful day.
- 19:28Speaker 1: It was in a great day for Swans fans.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Oh no, but I mean it was a good first half, yeah, yeah.
- 19:34Speaker 2: And then after that I'd had a few too many
- 19:36Speaker 2: vodka Sels's and didn't really care.
- 19:38Speaker 1: And a beautiful sunny day, beautiful. I went and watched
- 19:42Speaker 1: the first fifteen play at my son's school on Saturday,
- 19:44Speaker 1: sitting out in the sun. And these young men and
- 19:46Speaker 1: they are children still like that, they are year eleven
- 19:49Speaker 1: and year twelve. The level of skill that they have
- 19:53Speaker 1: in their game was just excer It's one of the
- 19:55Speaker 1: best games of rugby that I've watched in a long time.
- 19:56Speaker 1: It was just so until until, yeah, until watching the Wallabies.
- 20:01Speaker 1: How good.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Yes you taped it though, didn't you?
- 20:04Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, So I didn't watch it. It was at
- 20:05Speaker 1: one It was at one o'clock in the morning, and
- 20:08Speaker 1: I thought, as all good Wallabies fans do, that they'd
- 20:11Speaker 1: probably lose because they haven't won at Ellis Park in
- 20:14Speaker 1: South Africa in sixty two years. So we went on
- 20:17Speaker 1: a media blackout and watched it lunch yesterday with a
- 20:20Speaker 1: toasted sandwich and a bottle of red wine, Thank you
- 20:23Speaker 1: very much, and what a great afternoon that was. And
- 20:25Speaker 1: then afterwards I had a little snooze on the lounge
- 20:27Speaker 1: because I'd had a red wine.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I can't believe you got to that point without finding
- 20:30Speaker 2: out the result.
- 20:31Speaker 1: It was hard, It was really hard.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Given it was such massive news.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Thank god though, that I have the notable podcast closed
- 20:37Speaker 1: group in Facebook because I can go on that and
- 20:39Speaker 1: still play around with my mates and you know, not
- 20:42Speaker 1: no one, no one knows Rugby. No spoiler alerts on
- 20:45Speaker 1: the rug be.
- 20:46Speaker 3: No, that's true. You did well. It's amazing, though, like that,
- 20:49Speaker 3: to break a hoodoo that sixty two years in the
- 20:51Speaker 3: making is phenomenal. Like it's such a massive mental game,
- 20:55Speaker 3: isn't it to do that.
- 20:57Speaker 2: It's like Eden Park as well, because Eden Park is similar,
- 21:00Speaker 2: isn't it. It's a long time since. Yeah, the Wallabies
- 21:03Speaker 2: have beaten the All Blacks the very long time. And
- 21:05Speaker 2: it's a great thing about sport, isn't it.
- 21:07Speaker 1: When you've got these things, these these layers of excitement
- 21:11Speaker 1: with a game and seeing these sports people go, I'm
- 21:16Speaker 1: able to switch that out. I'm able to focus on
- 21:18Speaker 1: what I'm doing and it's just it's fabulous.
- 21:21Speaker 2: The more it happens, though, there's an extra level of
- 21:23Speaker 2: pressure on the side who holds the record, isn't it is?
- 21:26Speaker 2: It was like it was like us, like the Australian
- 21:28Speaker 2: Diamonds had never missed a World Cup gold medal game.
- 21:32Speaker 2: You're like, oh my god, that's want to be the
- 21:35Speaker 2: first team to not make it through to a gold
- 21:38Speaker 2: medal game. Unfortunately it's not happened.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Still, as the world gets better and better, you have
- 21:44Speaker 3: to think that one day it will happen. Yeah, I mean,
- 21:48Speaker 3: well I saw that. The thing we haven't talked about
- 21:50Speaker 3: is the Australia on the twenty one team getting named
- 21:53Speaker 3: for the World with carp and Gibraltar later this year,
- 21:56Speaker 3: which is super exciting and bloody not there's some great
- 21:59Speaker 3: talent in that team. But I was laughing when I
- 22:02Speaker 3: saw it come up and I thought I was the
- 22:04Speaker 3: first captain I think, to lead a team that didn't
- 22:07Speaker 3: didn't win the World Youth Cup. So you know, life
- 22:10Speaker 3: does go on. There is hope.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Where was your World Cup for under twenty.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Ones nine ninety two? Where was it in Fiji? And
- 22:20Speaker 3: halfway through the final, the lights went out. Oh that's right,
- 22:23Speaker 3: it was outdoors. It was us in New Zealand, and
- 22:26Speaker 3: it was so human that we had these green parasilk skirts,
- 22:31Speaker 3: you know they wrap around zip up skirts and just
- 22:34Speaker 3: white shirts. But all of our skirts got so sweaty
- 22:38Speaker 3: they all turned black. And we'll play against a team
- 22:40Speaker 3: wearing black, so and they were wearing black and white
- 22:44Speaker 3: and we were. It was like, oh my god, you
- 22:46Speaker 3: can't tell the difference. And we had a couple of
- 22:48Speaker 3: players go down with sickness. It was Truty Gardner and
- 22:52Speaker 3: Sarah Sutter who both went down really ill. And we
- 22:56Speaker 3: had a gun team, but so do New Zealand. Like
- 22:57Speaker 3: there was the very next like the ninety five World
- 23:00Speaker 3: Cup was full of those Kiwi players, like they were
- 23:03Speaker 3: a great team. We ended up losing by two or three.
- 23:06Speaker 2: It was devastating. And it wouldn't have mattered if you
- 23:09Speaker 2: both look like you were wearing black when the lights
- 23:11Speaker 2: go out.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So what did you do when the lights
- 23:13Speaker 1: went out?
- 23:14Speaker 3: Well, we were just you know, you go and you
- 23:16Speaker 3: hydrate and you talk about the fact, let's stay focused,
- 23:18Speaker 3: let's stay focused, and you just wait. It took about
- 23:20Speaker 3: half hour forty minutes for the lights to come back on.
- 23:23Speaker 3: So it was amazing.
- 23:24Speaker 2: I didn't realize how lucky we are until you go
- 23:26Speaker 2: and play a World Youth Cup where you go on
- 23:28Speaker 2: tour overseas and you play and some of the surfaces
- 23:32Speaker 2: or conditions that you're playing. I mean, nothing wrong with
- 23:35Speaker 2: playing outdoors, everybody does it, but it's not something that
- 23:37Speaker 2: we're used to, is it. So's it's a bit of
- 23:39Speaker 2: a brain fry. Our World Youth Cup was in Toronto
- 23:44Speaker 2: in Canada, and it was almost like concrete with a vinyl,
- 23:50Speaker 2: kind of green vinyl surface over the top. It was
- 23:54Speaker 2: so hard on your body a minor yeah, it was
- 23:57Speaker 2: like a liner. It was random. And then the goldpart
- 24:00Speaker 2: that still had the footing at the back so they
- 24:02Speaker 2: had the sand bags over it. So was oh wow,
- 24:04Speaker 2: so dangerous. But you're like, is what it is. Everyone's
- 24:07Speaker 2: playing under the same condition, so you just got to
- 24:09Speaker 2: get on with it. You just realize how lucky we are,
- 24:12Speaker 2: like we've got the beautiful floorboards. We're always inside. When
- 24:15Speaker 2: you get to a certain.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Level totally like well, the ninety five World Cup was
- 24:19Speaker 3: the same. It was a thin matting over a concrete
- 24:22Speaker 3: service and the weighted gold post at the back. That
- 24:24Speaker 3: was a World Cup. It's twenty years ago.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Wow, So it was ten years yesterday or Saturday. I
- 24:29Speaker 1: think it was ten years since the final of the
- 24:32Speaker 1: Nepal World Cup here in Sydney in twenty fifteen, and
- 24:34Speaker 1: we're having some great chat in the Facebook group about that.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I put up a bunch of photos of my time there,
- 24:40Speaker 1: including one Liz of you in commentary, caught from behind,
- 24:43Speaker 1: very busily working away. But yeah, a lot of our
- 24:46Speaker 1: listeners were there at that and it's like, my god,
- 24:48Speaker 1: how was that ten years ago? This seems like fifteen
- 24:50Speaker 1: minutes ago, doesn't It.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Was that hectically busy for you because I wasn't doing
- 24:54Speaker 2: commentary then, I was doing some other I don't know,
- 24:56Speaker 2: meat and greets and all sorts of stuff around it
- 24:58Speaker 2: and the proofery. But were you doing every single Aussie
- 25:01Speaker 2: game or every game or can you remember?
- 25:03Speaker 3: No, it was really busy. But Gordy and Dan Ryan
- 25:07Speaker 3: had it the hardest because they were down at Netball
- 25:09Speaker 3: Central where there were some games and they had to
- 25:11Speaker 3: commentate some games by themselves, like one commentator only, so
- 25:16Speaker 3: oh wow.
- 25:17Speaker 2: And the harder names to mention some of the countries
- 25:20Speaker 2: they had, like the Sri Lankan names are quite hard
- 25:23Speaker 2: to get your mouth around. I think Gordy was telling
- 25:25Speaker 2: me about that.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Yeah, well we had. I did some Blanket and some Fijan. Yeah,
- 25:30Speaker 3: like so it's hard, but you just do it because
- 25:33Speaker 3: it's part of it. But yeah, I was well full
- 25:34Speaker 3: on and I had just found out that I was
- 25:36Speaker 3: pregnant with Ustin and nobody knew. And we got to
- 25:38Speaker 3: the end and everyone back at our height, like all
- 25:40Speaker 3: the all the broadcasters were having drinks that I like
- 25:43Speaker 3: turned up and I'm like, yeah, just yeah, give me
- 25:47Speaker 3: a glass and I didn't drink it. Gordy was looking
- 25:49Speaker 3: at me really suspiciously, and then I was like, oh,
- 25:51Speaker 3: I've got to go. I've got to go home early tomorrow.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Everyone's got something out at school. So I was trying
- 25:55Speaker 3: to sort of have morning sickness not let anyone know.
- 25:59Speaker 3: And then you know you're working a ring app. But
- 26:00Speaker 3: it was bloody exciting. That was an awesome tournament. That
- 26:03Speaker 3: was so good.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Well, I remember because we all did the Centurions before that,
- 26:07Speaker 2: and we're all up the Duff Yes different stages. Chirelle
- 26:11Speaker 2: was quite heavily showing and you and I don't think
- 26:13Speaker 2: we've told anyone yet.
- 26:14Speaker 3: No, I knew that when the two of us aren't.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Drinking, the jig is up. People are onto it.
- 26:21Speaker 1: So you're you're not pregnant now. So I found a
- 26:30Speaker 1: book in my office today and I thought this must
- 26:33Speaker 1: have some wisdom for us. It's called Foolish Words, the
- 26:35Speaker 1: most stupid words ever spoken. And it's a full of quotes,
- 26:38Speaker 1: and I've got a quote here just reference to our
- 26:41Speaker 1: last conversation. They're about these hoodoos when you go places.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical.
- 26:50Speaker 1: That is Yogi bearer baseball legend. So I'm going to
- 26:54Speaker 1: try to seek some wisdom for us. I'll say every week,
- 26:58Speaker 1: but I you know, let's understand that when I say
- 27:01Speaker 1: I do something every week, I do it some weeks
- 27:02Speaker 1: when I remember to do it. But yes, this is
- 27:05Speaker 1: a Those are our words of wisdom this week from
- 27:08Speaker 1: the baseball world.
- 27:09Speaker 2: My sister is the queen of getting sayings back to
- 27:12Speaker 2: front or mixed up. One she said the other day
- 27:15Speaker 2: was the what's the fergle sharky?
- 27:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and a good heart these days is hard.
- 27:21Speaker 2: She came on the radio and she said oh, fucky,
- 27:25Speaker 2: no close awesome.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I think it's Is that called a malapropism?
- 27:31Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I think when you get when you get it like
- 27:34Speaker 1: a well oiled bicycle, a well boiled icycle. I think
- 27:37Speaker 1: that's called a malapropism.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Oh, I'm not the sharpest tool in the share these
- 27:42Speaker 2: the right one. What's the other one? Somebody, I'm smart
- 27:45Speaker 2: as a rocket scientist.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Yeah, no, no, brain's brain. It's not rocket surgeon.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Rocket surgeon, that's it.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I once worked with a woman Anna, who used to
- 27:55Speaker 1: always get these things mixed up. And I was at
- 27:58Speaker 1: work one day and I'd just been like, I was
- 28:01Speaker 1: dumped at lunch, which was nice, thank you, and I
- 28:03Speaker 1: was crying, and she tried to make me feel better,
- 28:05Speaker 1: and she said, Carolyne, when one door closes, another one shuts,
- 28:12Speaker 1: It's like, oh, that's what it feels like at the moment. Anna,
- 28:16Speaker 1: But thank you, You've actually made me laugh.
- 28:18Speaker 2: My sister. Funnily enough, she sent this through this meme
- 28:21Speaker 2: that came through the other day, and it's a couple
- 28:23Speaker 2: and the woman saying, you're skating on thin eggshells. Mister
- 28:27Speaker 2: his replies, it's either skating on thin ice or walking
- 28:32Speaker 2: on eggshells, and she replies, you probably shouldn't have corrected me.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Now you're really opening up a can of hot water. Yep,
- 28:42Speaker 2: that is you, Sarah.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Missus malaprop. That was a character in some maybe a
- 28:46Speaker 1: Dickens novel. I can't remember. Darryl look it up for us,
- 28:49Speaker 1: would you. So we've got four days at the time
- 29:01Speaker 1: of recording. There's four days left of the signing period.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, there's it closed on Friday? Is that right?
- 29:06Speaker 2: Should be on the Sunday? What's the twenty fourth? I
- 29:10Speaker 2: feel like the twenty fourth is the last.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Well, what's the date today?
- 29:13Speaker 2: What should be Sunday through to the Sunday. So it's
- 29:15Speaker 2: a twenty fourth Yeah, Sunday, okay.
- 29:17Speaker 1: So there are six days left to go. It's looking
- 29:20Speaker 1: like we'll get all the spots filled.
- 29:22Speaker 2: What about Gretel Bowetta? Though just quietly, I was so
- 29:25Speaker 2: pumped thinking she was coming back?
- 29:26Speaker 1: Is she not?
- 29:27Speaker 2: Was that that was just the worst tease ever?
- 29:30Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 29:30Speaker 2: Thank you Stacy Marinkovitch and Gretel Bwetta passing nipballs to
- 29:34Speaker 2: each other and putting it on social media to get
- 29:36Speaker 2: all our whistles wet or no there's nothing happening. I mean, oh,
- 29:40Speaker 2: the sunt and past Lightning need a shoot her. I don't.
- 29:42Speaker 2: I don't know. Let's not rule it out. Everyone's still
- 29:45Speaker 2: cross your fingers and hope to God that's going to happen.
- 29:47Speaker 2: But I think it was more around maybe Australia. Don't
- 29:50Speaker 2: think so either at this point. But she's coming out
- 29:52Speaker 2: to do a fast five version of with Maria Tutayer.
- 29:57Speaker 2: They're putting a competition together just on that. Everybody that's
- 30:00Speaker 2: direct messaged me on socials and asked me to go
- 30:03Speaker 2: and play come out of retirement to go on shoot
- 30:06Speaker 2: some long bombs for you. I appreciate your messages, but
- 30:09Speaker 2: not a chance in hell. Thanks anyway.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Also, if anyone was thinking of ever direct messaging me
- 30:16Speaker 1: to get me to go and play on their team,
- 30:19Speaker 1: probably not.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Mid court can shoot though in this one the centers
- 30:23Speaker 2: are allowed to shoot.
- 30:24Speaker 1: But that doesn't make life any more appealing.
- 30:27Speaker 2: But I mean, you don't have to be a big
- 30:28Speaker 2: unit to be a center. You can still be draining
- 30:30Speaker 2: them from it.
- 30:31Speaker 1: You do have to have a fairly functioning maniscous though,
- 30:34Speaker 1: which is also like honestly.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Carol, and Carol would prefer to keep her draining them
- 30:40Speaker 3: to just the gins when you're.
- 30:43Speaker 1: That's exactly right. I feel like I'm more your hype girl.
- 30:46Speaker 1: I think I've demonstrated I'm not much of a coach,
- 30:50Speaker 1: but hype girl, that's you.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Know, I'm a coach. Last performance, yeah, that was.
- 30:56Speaker 1: My last performance in Raven's colors as coach, which was
- 31:00Speaker 1: a little bit sad. So on Saturday we had the
- 31:03Speaker 1: farewell to meadow Bank Courts, so eastwood Ride Meadow Netball Association.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Earner has been playing out of these meadow Bank courts
- 31:11Speaker 1: for years and they were on I think I've talked
- 31:13Speaker 1: about this. They've been built on landfill, so half of
- 31:15Speaker 1: the courts are completely unusable because if it rains, a
- 31:19Speaker 1: child could drown in the size of puddle that is there.
- 31:23Speaker 1: So they're real ankle breakers. But we're getting some new
- 31:25Speaker 1: courts in west Ryde. So Saturday was the farewell to
- 31:28Speaker 1: meadow Bank and Kira Austin came down to visit.
- 31:30Speaker 2: I saw her on social so that the association's moving
- 31:33Speaker 2: completely away from that venue. Yeah, ah, that is really sad.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Great for new courts, not it is, but it's you know,
- 31:40Speaker 2: it's a lot of history isn't it.
- 31:41Speaker 1: It is a lot of history. Yeah, so, but yeah,
- 31:44Speaker 1: it's I didn't know that this was the last season there.
- 31:46Speaker 1: I thought the Courts weren't going to be ready until
- 31:48Speaker 1: the before the World Cup, but apparently it looks like
- 31:50Speaker 1: they'll be ready for next year. If we're saying goodbye
- 31:52Speaker 1: to the Courts, Where the hell.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Do you find that amount of land in Sydney's West Ride?
- 31:58Speaker 2: So it's not far from at our Bank. It is
- 32:00Speaker 2: something established there. Yeah, that's exciting.
- 32:03Speaker 1: There used to be some high schools around there that close,
- 32:06Speaker 1: so maybe it's somewhere. I don't know. I'm just I'm
- 32:08Speaker 1: just spitballing now. But it's like I do know that
- 32:10Speaker 1: there have been some schools in the area that have
- 32:12Speaker 1: closed and merged and things, and new ones reopening, so
- 32:15Speaker 1: maybe it's at an old school or something.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Now, meanwhile, did the premiership winner get mauled here Austin?
- 32:22Speaker 1: Well, I actually wasn't there when she was there, so,
- 32:24Speaker 1: which was sad. I didn't see it until social media,
- 32:27Speaker 1: so I went, oh, that's a shame, she's down at Earner.
- 32:29Speaker 1: But there was a really good cake stall. I can
- 32:31Speaker 1: report that.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Someone else so good.
- 32:35Speaker 1: But they had they had the barbecue, they had the
- 32:37Speaker 1: cake stall and then a heart check, which.
- 32:42Speaker 2: I could have just done that instead of going to
- 32:43Speaker 2: get mined done last week.
- 32:44Speaker 1: So how'd you go?
- 32:46Speaker 2: Yeah? Good? Nothing nothing untoward.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Good.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Do you know what I have been thinking about with
- 32:50Speaker 1: horror for one week now is is having to run
- 32:54Speaker 1: on that treadmill for that cardiac tablet of brown Like.
- 32:57Speaker 3: That's just well boom saw it just thinking about it?
- 33:02Speaker 1: Absolutely not good at all?
- 33:04Speaker 2: Can I ask a question though?
- 33:05Speaker 3: Back?
- 33:05Speaker 2: So back to the coaching. Are you going to coach again?
- 33:07Speaker 2: So even even if it's not Dots team.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Look, I'm not I'm not entirely closed, so I would
- 33:13Speaker 1: like to have you know, it would be nice to
- 33:15Speaker 1: not have something on all the time, but I'll be
- 33:17Speaker 1: I will drop my ethics teaching next year because she's
- 33:19Speaker 1: finished school. So it's like even just dropping one of
- 33:22Speaker 1: those compulsory weekly activities would be would be nice. I
- 33:26Speaker 1: will miss it, so I won't say that I'm definitely,
- 33:29Speaker 1: but she wants to play for her school and I
- 33:31Speaker 1: think it's really good for her to have a different
- 33:32Speaker 1: coach because she's had me. She's had me the whole way,
- 33:36Speaker 1: and it's like, well, you know someone.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Else will feel it differently.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right, So I think that'll be good. And
- 33:42Speaker 1: then you know, but I also think good not to
- 33:45Speaker 1: play for the school, particularly for girls in high school
- 33:48Speaker 1: when the social stuff gets intense, to have your friends
- 33:52Speaker 1: a set of friends who are outside of that dynamic
- 33:56Speaker 1: is really good. So I would encourage her to go
- 33:58Speaker 1: back to a community club if she wants to. After
- 34:01Speaker 1: a year of playing for the school. I think, you know,
- 34:03Speaker 1: you're starting a new School's probably not a bad idea
- 34:05Speaker 1: to get in there and play netball and you know,
- 34:08Speaker 1: try to meet some other other kids.
- 34:10Speaker 2: You heard it here first everybody. Carolyn Swindle is available
- 34:13Speaker 2: for coaching. Please send your resumes to no dribble dot com.
- 34:18Speaker 3: I mean, isn't like thinking about getting your weekends back up.
- 34:21Speaker 3: We just had a weekend where we had rugby in
- 34:23Speaker 3: two separate places on Friday night, So Matthew was with
- 34:26Speaker 3: Austin because he coaches him, and then I was with
- 34:28Speaker 3: Evelyn while she played, and then we got home ten
- 34:32Speaker 3: o'clock Friday night, and then Saturday morning were up Austin
- 34:36Speaker 3: had soccer, and then I went and volunteered at his school,
- 34:40Speaker 3: like fundraising. They do a country Fair. So I just
- 34:42Speaker 3: went and sold raffle tickets to the Wine Vault for
- 34:45Speaker 3: a couple of hours, and then I went and coached
- 34:46Speaker 3: Devlon and Matthew was doing some other stuff and then
- 34:49Speaker 3: he came and watched Evelyn and then you know, you
- 34:52Speaker 3: get home on Saturday night, you fall in a heap.
- 34:53Speaker 3: And then yesterday I got up and went and worked
- 34:56Speaker 3: at the at Bunnings for balin and Netball when they
- 34:59Speaker 3: had their Sasi Sizzle. So I was there for a
- 35:01Speaker 3: couple of hours doing the so Sizzle and Matthew was
- 35:05Speaker 3: off with Evelin at rugby training and then something else
- 35:08Speaker 3: and I got to be so good when we like
- 35:11Speaker 3: when the kids are a bit older and we're not
- 35:12Speaker 3: doing this, but then I reckon, we're going to hit that,
- 35:15Speaker 3: and go, oh, I really miss being that busy.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Yeah, we're a lot of fun stuff.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Well you could be one of the netball administrators. So
- 35:24Speaker 1: quite a few of my team were running late on
- 35:26Speaker 1: Saturday morning and so the team manager sent a note
- 35:29Speaker 1: saying can someone please go and get the postpads and
- 35:31Speaker 1: the score sheet. So we arrived and I said to Pete,
- 35:35Speaker 1: you go and do that and I'll go straight down
- 35:37Speaker 1: there with the girls and start warming them up. And
- 35:40Speaker 1: then we got a message. You know, the postpads are there.
- 35:42Speaker 1: So I sent him a note saying you just have
- 35:43Speaker 1: to get the score sheet. And he went up and said,
- 35:46Speaker 1: I have to get a score sheet. He's never done
- 35:48Speaker 1: this before. And one of the netball administrators said, well,
- 35:53Speaker 1: what team is it? And he said, was she's twelve?
- 35:55Speaker 3: Right?
- 35:55Speaker 1: Well is it under twelves or under thirteen's? He went
- 35:58Speaker 1: under twelve and she said what team and she said
- 36:01Speaker 1: Ravens and she said, we've got two Ravens team in
- 36:03Speaker 1: this age group.
- 36:04Speaker 3: You know.
- 36:04Speaker 1: They finally worked it out and he said, look, I'm sorry,
- 36:06Speaker 1: I'm not very good at this and she said, no,
- 36:07Speaker 1: you're not.
- 36:09Speaker 2: My god, that's so what they're like too. I'm so
- 36:13Speaker 2: so blund Are.
- 36:14Speaker 3: You thinking wondering up, not knowing details when these women
- 36:17Speaker 3: have got fifty million teens to get out, Like if
- 36:20Speaker 3: you want to go, I've got a daughter, she's twelve.
- 36:23Speaker 3: I don't know she'd like. These women are trying to
- 36:25Speaker 3: get so much done.
- 36:26Speaker 2: That a life lesson for Pete. That's just not women
- 36:29Speaker 2: at association net ball. That's women just in general. I
- 36:31Speaker 2: think isn't it.
- 36:33Speaker 1: You know I do, I have. I have enormous sympathy
- 36:37Speaker 1: for them, But it's also like just trying to help,
- 36:40Speaker 1: just trying to clearly like I just you go and
- 36:42Speaker 1: sort that out and I'm over here. But then fortunately
- 36:45Speaker 1: managed to work their way through it. But it's like, actually, well,
- 36:47Speaker 1: to be a better place if there was a little
- 36:48Speaker 1: bit more on target feedback like that, I'm not very
- 36:51Speaker 1: good at this. No you're not. All she's doing is
- 36:53Speaker 1: validating his view of himself. So yeah, so you could
- 36:57Speaker 1: do that, Liz. You could be that person.
- 37:00Speaker 3: I could be lookquip to be that person.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Hey, can I ask a question about the Bunnings sausages
- 37:06Speaker 2: in the country? Are they better? I mean, I find
- 37:09Speaker 2: it hard to believe they are, but we better fresh
- 37:12Speaker 2: fresh mood hows and bits and pieces up in the
- 37:15Speaker 2: farm areas. Surely, No, they're just supermarket sausages. Oh does
- 37:20Speaker 2: that hurt you having to sell those two people?
- 37:22Speaker 3: No, because I know that it's all going towards getting
- 37:25Speaker 3: us some new PA system. So I don't care what
- 37:26Speaker 3: I sell as long as they.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Have this piece of rubber. Just give me your money.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Sell cigarettes to children, limitations.
- 37:39Speaker 3: Not much, but I've got some. No, I just it
- 37:41Speaker 3: was good fun, Like I didn't want to do it.
- 37:43Speaker 3: I was like, I've got to do it because they
- 37:46Speaker 3: have so many it's always the same women who have
- 37:48Speaker 3: to turn up and set it up. And I was like, no,
- 37:51Speaker 3: I'm just going to suck it up and go and
- 37:52Speaker 3: help them. Anyway, I enjoyed it.
- 37:54Speaker 2: It was good on you. Did you have one?
- 37:56Speaker 3: No, but she didn't see I do have stand as Catherine.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Yeah, but I can't help myself. It's the smell, I know.
- 38:02Speaker 1: But then it sort of repeats on you for the
- 38:04Speaker 1: rest of the day, doesn't it.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm thinking about one now I'm starting to sell.
- 38:11Speaker 1: So look, it's probably time for us to wrap up,
- 38:13Speaker 1: but we do need to actually just acknowledge you. A
- 38:17Speaker 1: lot of people are inviting people to join the Facebook group,
- 38:19Speaker 1: which is sensational. Thank you. We are growing, like, I
- 38:24Speaker 1: don't know, growing like a weed in there, which is wonderful.
- 38:27Speaker 1: So and I've had to change the regularity of the
- 38:30Speaker 1: welcome posts for people because it used to be every
- 38:33Speaker 1: fifty members or so we'd send out the I'd put
- 38:35Speaker 1: up the post saying let's welcome our new members, and
- 38:37Speaker 1: then it started to accelerate, and then it was every
- 38:39Speaker 1: one hundred people who joined, and now I've had to
- 38:42Speaker 1: change it to every one hundred and fifty people because
- 38:44Speaker 1: it's just happening way too often, because which is just wonderful. So,
- 38:48Speaker 1: but do make sure you are inviting your friends to
- 38:51Speaker 1: join the Facebook group, but that you are especially inviting
- 38:54Speaker 1: them to listen to the podcast. Please. I will keep
- 38:57Speaker 1: putting up there in the Facebook group how to listen
- 38:59Speaker 1: to the podcast, but please make sure that everybody knows
- 39:02Speaker 1: how to join in for the fun. We haven't done
- 39:06Speaker 1: any whale sounds this week. That's something that you know
- 39:08Speaker 1: doesn't happen every week. You'll be pleased to hear. Although
- 39:11Speaker 1: that was quite popular.
- 39:13Speaker 2: I was trying to do it in the car on
- 39:15Speaker 2: the way.
- 39:17Speaker 1: How'd you go?
- 39:18Speaker 3: Let's hear it?
- 39:18Speaker 2: I can't. I can't get my brain to make it
- 39:22Speaker 2: happen out of my mouth.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not very good.
- 39:24Speaker 2: I just can't do it. Like I literally was in
- 39:26Speaker 2: the car trying to do it, and they all sounded
- 39:30Speaker 2: not like whales.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Are you at another frequency?
- 39:35Speaker 2: No? It's like I keep coming up with like that,
- 39:40Speaker 2: not it? How did you do yours?
- 39:43Speaker 3: Give me?
- 39:43Speaker 2: I need to hear it first I came out. She
- 39:57Speaker 2: fell for it.
- 40:00Speaker 1: But it's like that thing when you're singing in the car.
- 40:02Speaker 1: You can nail it, can't. You try to sing somewhere
- 40:05Speaker 1: else and it's like, well that wasn't nearly as good.
- 40:07Speaker 1: So I thought you were going to say you had
- 40:09Speaker 1: nailed the rail sound in the car.
- 40:11Speaker 2: I just can't.
- 40:12Speaker 1: I just love that you were doing it.
- 40:14Speaker 2: But hilarry on the way here a kid, you're not
- 40:16Speaker 2: out loud, like if anyone was looking at me in
- 40:19Speaker 2: my car today would have Anyway.
- 40:21Speaker 1: I love Katherine that you are so focused on self improvement,
- 40:25Speaker 1: on becoming the best person that you can be, that
- 40:28Speaker 1: you set yourself these little goals.
- 40:30Speaker 2: To be person the best whale like it to.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Be ye, the best whale impersonator. Very good? Yes, So
- 40:36Speaker 1: that's we might do whales again another week. Who knows?
- 40:39Speaker 1: Send us in requests for which animals you'd like to
- 40:42Speaker 1: hear Catherine do. Obviously we've had we've had requests for
- 40:45Speaker 1: her to do Scottish accents in the past and she
- 40:48Speaker 1: will occasionally. Of course, you can't just say that one
- 40:52Speaker 1: word you want some There we go, Julie mar that's
- 40:57Speaker 1: for you.
- 40:58Speaker 2: That was for you, Julie. Hey, now that we've got
- 41:01Speaker 2: a good sized Facebook group, can I just say if
- 41:03Speaker 2: anyone wants anything specifically from us, let us know, because
- 41:07Speaker 2: there was a lot of people requesting to hear the
- 41:09Speaker 2: story on how we all met. Oh, yes, and a
- 41:12Speaker 2: rehash of that. I saw that conversation going around. But
- 41:14Speaker 2: I thought, now we've got a good group, there might
- 41:16Speaker 2: be some stories that people want to hear about, or
- 41:19Speaker 2: some parts of netball they want to hear about, or
- 41:20Speaker 2: any whatever it is. Now, you know, throw it open
- 41:23Speaker 2: to us and we'll see what we can come up with.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Well, i'll tell you what. Sorry, we did promise to
- 41:27Speaker 1: talk Well, we didn't promise to talk about that, but
- 41:28Speaker 1: that was the request how we met, And it's like
- 41:32Speaker 1: there were nine seasons of how I met your mother.
- 41:34Speaker 1: So we're going to drag this out and tell but
- 41:36Speaker 1: we have actually talked about it before. But next week
- 41:38Speaker 1: I will tell you all how I set a goal,
- 41:43Speaker 1: I manipulated the organization that I was working with, and
- 41:47Speaker 1: I went on a friend making exercise and here we are.
- 41:50Speaker 1: So but I will I will go back into that
- 41:53Speaker 1: next week. We did do one of the earlier episodes.
- 41:56Speaker 1: But yes, you are right. If you want to hear
- 41:57Speaker 1: anything from us, put it up on the Facebook group. Yeah,
- 42:00Speaker 1: we will talk about There are lots of requests for
- 42:03Speaker 1: things that we should talk about.
- 42:04Speaker 3: You know.
- 42:04Speaker 1: One week we had a request on what are the
- 42:06Speaker 1: numbers mean on the dresses for the individual players? And
- 42:09Speaker 1: fortunately Gordy was here and she was able to explain
- 42:11Speaker 1: it all to us, so that was great. She's on
- 42:13Speaker 1: holidays at the moment, but when she comes back, we'll
- 42:15Speaker 1: hammer her with a bunch of technical questions.
- 42:18Speaker 2: At the moment, is sheating the queen?
- 42:19Speaker 1: A very nice well and a cop of tea? I
- 42:21Speaker 1: guess there is still a queen. I keep forgetting about that.
- 42:23Speaker 1: I keep forgetting that the queen died and then we
- 42:26Speaker 1: got a king. But the king's like Kate God.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Anyway, it's time to go.
- 42:32Speaker 1: All right, Well everyone, it is the last week of
- 42:34Speaker 1: the signing season, so strap in. It's still going to
- 42:38Speaker 1: be a lot of change and we will talk about
- 42:40Speaker 1: those next week. But I'm Carolyn Swindell, I'm
- 42:42Speaker 2: Cath Cox's bye bye
