- 0:18Our GM is in jail right now. He, he broke into the MCDM
- 0:23headquarters to kiss the ground upon Matt Colville's feet, for
- 0:27which he walked. And, you know, trespassing,
- 0:33stalking. So he's going to be gone for a
- 0:36little bit and we're not paying bail.
- 0:40He'll be fine. You know, you, you would have
- 0:42figured or I would have figured that he would have listened to
- 0:44us, you know, when we were like, hey, man, this is not a great
- 0:46idea. And you know, famous last words
- 0:50of it's fine. Fun fact, it's not fine.
- 0:55It'll be fine. It wasn't.
- 0:57It wasn't. Fine, as it turned out.
- 0:59Not even close. He did get to talk to Matt
- 1:02Colville and James Intercasso, probably not in the way he was
- 1:04hoping, but you know, he talked to him for a minute.
- 1:06Yeah, when they were trying to follow a restraining order.
- 1:09Yeah, yeah. And when they were like, can you
- 1:11stop being a creepy weirdo and get out of our office?
- 1:14But, you know, we're back. We're still talking about draw
- 1:23steel. I did say, well, I don't know.
- 1:27I didn't know how long it was going to take.
- 1:28So here the fuck we are. Listen, y'all, this book thick
- 1:34as hell. She's she's, she's, she got the
- 1:40thighs. Gosh, she got that Emma Frost
- 1:42build, you know what I'm saying? I just I couldn't not think of
- 1:46the deuce Bigalow American gigolo.
- 1:48That's big. Yeah.
- 1:51Yeah, basically. Somebody called the circus.
- 1:58Stop, cease. So yeah, we're we're still on
- 2:06this draw Steel shit. We're still talking about the
- 2:08old MCDMRPG, kind of say it's really weird reading through
- 2:15this game and being like, oh fuck, it's like a real game now.
- 2:20Because you know, you know what I mean is like, you know that
- 2:26thing where you have like a friend who's like, oh, I'm going
- 2:28to do this thing. Like I'm going to do this big
- 2:30project and they talk about it. They talk about it, talk about
- 2:32it, but they never fucking get their ass moving and actually do
- 2:35it. So you're just like, uh huh,
- 2:36sure you are, bud. It's like your friend's like,
- 2:38bro, I'm going to have a fucking 6 pack by the end of the year,
- 2:40man. I'm going to be fucking 175 lean
- 2:42as shit. And you're like, uh huh, sure
- 2:44you are, bud. And then the end of the year
- 2:45comes around, they're like 165 and like they ain't really
- 2:49lifting that much more. You know, that kind of shit.
- 2:51You know what I'm saying? You don't get That was kind of
- 2:54how I felt about this game. That was what?
- 2:59That was how I felt when Lupo told me he was going to become
- 3:01an indie wrestler. I was like, what the?
- 3:02Fuck, you're not. Yes, yes.
- 3:04And then. He did, and then he did do like.
- 3:07Oh shit. All right.
- 3:08He actually. Yeah, that one, he that one, he
- 3:10actually did. It's true.
- 3:13But like watching, you know, watching Matt Colville's videos
- 3:18before, before he for, you know, like I was watching him.
- 3:21I mean, we both were, we're watching him before MCDM even
- 3:24existed. Like the company period and like
- 3:27their trajectory has been kind of crazy and how fast they've
- 3:30moved and, you know, small companies so you can be a lot
- 3:34more live. But like, the going from one
- 3:39Kickstarter to company to many many books to DND magazine to
- 3:45our own God damn game is like, kind of wild, you know what I'm
- 3:48saying? And.
- 3:50But in those early days of MCDM when they were making 5 E
- 3:54products doing strongholds of followers and kingdoms of
- 3:56warfare mostly, you know, he would talk about like, oh, we'll
- 4:00probably make our own game at some point.
- 4:02And I was just sitting there like, yeah, yeah, sure you will
- 4:04Blood. We'll see about that.
- 4:05I just didn't believe it was going to happen.
- 4:07And then it started actually happening.
- 4:08And I was like, all right, but like, is it actually going to
- 4:11come? And then it came out and I was
- 4:13like, oh shit, fuck, All right, nevermind.
- 4:16Like I just, I just, I don't know.
- 4:19I don't know what it was about the project that made me think
- 4:21it wasn't really gonna happen. I just thought it wasn't at one
- 4:24point. I just didn't have, I mean, once
- 4:26it got to a certain ramp up, I was like, all right, obviously
- 4:29money's being put into it, but like, yeah, it was just kind of
- 4:32funny. I, I'm literally having that
- 4:34right now because I, I, I paid into the, the Mr. Rex Sands of
- 4:40Doom Kickstarter, like way back in the way back to the way, way
- 4:43back. And every time that book is
- 4:46done, it's like it's, they're literally just waiting for like
- 4:49shipping shit to calm down a little bit.
- 4:51And I didn't realize that because I, I for some reason,
- 4:54like I think their emails are set to spam for me, which is
- 4:57annoying because I didn't do that.
- 4:59And I went to check the other day.
- 5:00It's like end of September books will be going out to the US.
- 5:02And I was like, oh, oh, oh, it is real.
- 5:05Oh shit, cool. Yeah, Kickstarters are notorious
- 5:10for that problem. But yeah, it's a real game.
- 5:16It's out. It's playable.
- 5:17People have been playing it a lot, people liking it.
- 5:19So, you know, before we really get back into the shebang,
- 5:25though, you know, hold on. I got to swallow one second.
- 5:31Yeah, not trying to chew, you know.
- 5:38Why are you chewing while recording you fuck.
- 5:42'Cause you were talking and I had a little little bite left
- 5:44and I was like, I'm just, and then you, I expect you to keep
- 5:48talking a little bit longer. Anyway, we're good, we're good.
- 5:55Before we get all into it, let's, you know, do the usual
- 6:00hit follow or subscribe on your podcast platform of choice.
- 6:03You know, it's that's all well and good, but also I have a
- 6:06little, a little little mini announcement.
- 6:08Don't get too excited, but I have a little mini announcement.
- 6:12So we busted 100 subscribers on YouTube.
- 6:13We busted a nut. We busted 100.
- 6:16Subscribers. All right, now see, now you made
- 6:21it weird. OK, yeah, like that.
- 6:24Like I'm the only one who's notorious for making it weird.
- 6:26OK, All right. We had.
- 6:29We had actually. We had already broken 100
- 6:31between all platforms a while ago, but I was only mostly
- 6:34looking at the YouTube one just because I don't know.
- 6:39And yeah, so we bought it. We got over 100.
- 6:43I'm going to stop saying busted because it's going to it's going
- 6:44to fuck me up. Now we got over 100 on YouTube
- 6:47in terms of subscribers. So as a little a little little
- 6:51mini celebration thing, I have put in the link in the I have
- 6:56put a link in the description on all the platforms, a link to our
- 7:01Kofi. If you don't know Kofi Coffee,
- 7:04however, the fuck you supposed to say it?
- 7:05I never know. I always say coffee.
- 7:07Whatever I think it is supposed to be coffee cause the joke was
- 7:10by an artist a coffee was supposed to be the idea.
- 7:12So you're probably right. Coffee if you don't know is it's
- 7:17kind of become like a little Patreon platform thing.
- 7:20But it also offers just tipping like you can just throw in
- 7:24donations one time donations. So I have made a donation link
- 7:28for us. If you have listened and you've
- 7:30been like, I'm feeling generous, let me throw out some donation.
- 7:34The money, however, will not be going to us.
- 7:37The money will be going to our editor, Brett.
- 7:39I haven't told him this, by the way.
- 7:41So he's going to learn this from editing this episode.
- 7:43So it'll be a fun little surprise.
- 7:46The money's all going to go to him because as we've jokingly
- 7:50said many times, we don't pay him.
- 7:52We don't actually keep him in a cage, he does it of his own free
- 7:55will and he could tell us to fuck off at any time.
- 7:58We know there's no stipulations involved here, but we don't pay
- 8:01him and that part is true. So if you'd like to donate money
- 8:03to Brett for his blood, sweat and tears, you may not do that.
- 8:07Link in the description. Yes, and again, we are.
- 8:10We, me and Josh will not see a dime of this.
- 8:12This all goes to Brett, because without Brett, this podcast
- 8:15doesn't fucking happen. Until until it gets to the point
- 8:18where it starts becoming ludicrous about and then we'll
- 8:20readjust. But for the time being.
- 8:22Yeah, let's make sure at least the fucking poor guy gets paid.
- 8:26Yeah. So yeah, if you're feeling like
- 8:30you want to be generous and be nice to Brit, I know we still
- 8:34haven't had him on. So he's just like the nebulous
- 8:37being in the background. We probably should at some
- 8:39point. So he's less of a nebulous
- 8:40being, but. I've thought about, yeah, I've
- 8:41thought about how we can bring him out, although, you know,
- 8:43it's not like the audience has never heard him.
- 8:46He's been there in in bits and pieces, little snippets.
- 8:49He does exist. He's real.
- 8:51If we start paying Brett, we can actually pay Brett to actually
- 8:55do some effect editing for us. So whenever we say Brett say the
- 8:59thing, he'll actually. Do well, we can have him do it
- 9:02on a more regular, but I mean he still does it sometimes when he
- 9:04feels like it. But he feels like it.
- 9:06But now we if he start paying you, we can be like you're
- 9:08actually obligated to fucking do the thing.
- 9:11We can ask. Him to do it more anyway so
- 9:18let's fucking yeah let's fucking draw steel let's get back into
- 9:21it so we we we were talking about classes last time and.
- 9:27That's what we were talking about, right?
- 9:29Yeah, yeah, we literally just mentioned this before we.
- 9:33Start. I know I my brain turned off for
- 9:35a second, yes. So we're gonna jump right back
- 9:39on classes 'cause we talked about it, but like, there's a
- 9:42lot to say and I don't, you know, we didn't totally cover
- 9:46everything we wanted to. So like, I think, I think we're
- 9:52just going to kind of go class by class and just kind of talk
- 9:55about them. Really broad strokes I think is
- 9:58the easiest way to do it. And just like things we like,
- 10:00things we don't. What makes each one of them a
- 10:02little like different from each other.
- 10:07And I do think the different from each other is actually
- 10:09really relevant here because I think a lot of people might
- 10:14either look at the game or heal the sales pitch for this game.
- 10:18And the classes might seem very samey because they all work off
- 10:23of this same kind of heroic resource spend for big power
- 10:27type system. And there's no spells in the
- 10:31game so that you can't differentiate spellcaster versus
- 10:35Marshall. That's not really a thing.
- 10:36And like all of the all of the classes have this kind of
- 10:40fantasy superhero vibe. So you can't necessarily
- 10:43differentiate like mundane guy versus magical guy.
- 10:46There's a lot of elements of the classes that might might make
- 10:49them all appear very samey. They're not very samey, but when
- 10:54you're just looking at it at first first glance it might come
- 10:57off that way. Anything you want to throw in
- 11:03there? No, I mean, I think I I agree
- 11:05with you in that they there is an interesting amount of
- 11:07separation between the classes and the heroic resources Don't
- 11:15they don't actually affect the way that you see the classes.
- 11:17It doesn't make each class feel samey.
- 11:19It it you just sort of treat it the way you treat, you know, hit
- 11:23hit dice, for example. It's just an ammo counter.
- 11:26It's an ammo. I think the thing, well, I think
- 11:27the thing that's really cool about the thing that makes
- 11:30heroic resources interesting, like they are an ammo counter,
- 11:33but the thing that makes them interesting is everybody accrues
- 11:36them in little different ways. Everybody burns them in little
- 11:39different ways and everybody wants to kind of manage them in
- 11:46in slightly different methods. Like the Fury, for example, gets
- 11:53active benefits if they have more of their heroic resource
- 11:56banked, but obviously if they have it banked, they can't use
- 12:01their abilities that cost their heroic resource.
- 12:04So there's like this, this tension between do I want to
- 12:07hold on to it and do I want to spend it?
- 12:09And that's obviously that's very intentional.
- 12:12And then like the talent, for example, can go negative on
- 12:15their heroic resource, and they're the only one that could
- 12:18do that. The Fury's the only one that
- 12:19gets a benefit from banking. Like they all have a little
- 12:22different ways they want to go about utilizing them, you know
- 12:24what I mean? And so that adds to that flavor.
- 12:31So just kind of going down the list.
- 12:33So we were talking about the sensor last time a little bit,
- 12:37I'm going to sort of restart at the sensor.
- 12:41So the one of the big things I didn't mention, so the sensor
- 12:47has or which OK, order of operations.
- 12:53I mentioned that the sensor has subclasses and they do they have
- 12:56three. There's the exorcist, Oracle and
- 12:57paragon. The the differences between them
- 13:04is a little unclear to me. With the sensor, I'll be honest,
- 13:10I think the idea is kind of that the Oracle is the caste guy, the
- 13:14paragon's like the supporting guy, and the Exorcist is a
- 13:17little more like smack thing with hammer guy, I think is kind
- 13:20of the idea. I'm gonna be honest, I didn't
- 13:22pay super close attention to the sensor other than the fucking,
- 13:26what's his name, Dazar. That's the that's the conduit.
- 13:31Oh my bad, I'm an idiot. Bull.
- 13:34C but two different. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:36Sensors the Paladin guys. Right, my bad, my bad.
- 13:39Yes, yes, Exorcist is more of the big smack O Oracle.
- 13:43You're more supporty and then. Paragon, I think it.
- 13:47No, I think. Paragon is Paragon is supporty.
- 13:49Supporty, Yeah. And then Oracle's about, you
- 13:51know, blasting them with the holy damage.
- 13:54Yeah. The other thing though is so you
- 13:57have your subclass which is your sensor order.
- 13:59You also get a deity in domain like the conduit.
- 14:02So the sensor picks a God and that dictates some of the powers
- 14:08that they get via their God. So unlike D&D where you have the
- 14:14cleric and the paladin, and the cleric very explicitly has a
- 14:18domain and the paladin, they talk about having a God they
- 14:22worship, but don't actually mechanically give them anything
- 14:25in that regard. In this sense, this in this
- 14:28game, the sensor does actively have a deity that you pick or a
- 14:31domain that you pick and that does influence your character.
- 14:37It is worth pointing out though. Also, sensors are a little
- 14:40thematically a little less righteous than paladins, and a
- 14:45little more. Yeah, they're a little more.
- 14:51Yeah, they're a little smite. The infidelities.
- 14:53Like, yeah. They have a little bit more of
- 14:57a, of a of a malicious bent to them than like a Paladins.
- 15:01Yeah, yeah. So that's worth noting.
- 15:07So you pick your DD domain. The other big thing that the
- 15:09sensor gets that's kind of unique to them is judgement,
- 15:13which is kind of like a Hunter's mark, but it's for the sensor
- 15:19cause. And again, there is no Ranger
- 15:21class, which I do feel like missed opportunity perhaps feel.
- 15:25Like we'll probably see it soon because you're right, they they
- 15:27have the wild heart. It makes no sense that they
- 15:29would create a whole class or the 5th edition and then not use
- 15:34it they. Have the beast hearts, Sir.
- 15:37All right. Beast Heart Wild Heart is the
- 15:39subclass rename for the Barbarian in 5th edition, right?
- 15:43Right they. Would be named.
- 15:47Total barbarian. I can.
- 15:50So you have judgement, Yeah. Which is kind of a Hunter's
- 15:54marquee thing. And essentially you mark an
- 15:56enemy and it does a couple of different things, like if an
- 15:59enemy shifts away from you, you can stop them.
- 16:04If they make a power role, you can like give them a bane on it.
- 16:08It does a couple, it has like 4 different options about how you
- 16:10can affect them, but basically you lock that bitch down and say
- 16:14you Sir are my problem. And then you also get a benefit
- 16:20based on which subclass you picked.
- 16:23And then the other kind of unique thing that the sensor
- 16:25gets is my life for yours. This is effectively your Lay on
- 16:29Hands ability and it lets you take some of your recoveries and
- 16:34use them on somebody else. Recoveries are the primary
- 16:37method that people keep themselves up in this game that
- 16:39they they heal themselves with. Normally you do the catch breath
- 16:43maneuver and then you heal yourself.
- 16:46The sensor is the only character where they can burn their own
- 16:49personal recoveries to help somebody else.
- 16:51I actually, so something I want to point out to this, and I say
- 16:54this tentatively because like I think I like it.
- 16:57I think I'm on board. I got to like think about it a
- 16:59little more because on one end I do like that they are
- 17:02consolidating down ammo counters because there's already a good
- 17:06amount of them in game. So they're just giving you
- 17:10another way to use your recovery, you know what I mean?
- 17:13They're just making it a new thing.
- 17:14Whereas DND lay on hands its own thing, its own health pool, its
- 17:17own, you know, resource effectively.
- 17:21I like it. Tentatively, I have to think
- 17:25about a little more, but just like, you know, on the initial
- 17:27smell test, I'm like, oh, that makes sense out there.
- 17:29From Adm perspective, that makes sense.
- 17:30Yeah, or so right. From a game design perspective,
- 17:33that makes sense. Yeah, it does.
- 17:37You do miss a little bit of the flavour of like literally
- 17:40burning your own or yeah, like burning your own health in a
- 17:43way. But it is it is still mostly the
- 17:46same. Like, yeah, it feels just
- 17:48slightly shifted over, but it does still mostly work.
- 17:51And I think this is also one of those abilities that's gonna
- 17:54feel a lot cooler in play because reading the game, well,
- 17:58actually not even I think I can pretty much say this
- 18:01wholeheartedly because I'm watching a play through.
- 18:04I'm, I'm watching an actual play that Matt Colville is putting on
- 18:07his YouTube channel of him and some other some of the others
- 18:11games designers with James and Zacasso, the lead designer
- 18:14running it. And Matt is playing a sensor.
- 18:18And the idea of burning your own recoveries to help someone else
- 18:22out is a pretty big deal because recoveries are generally a
- 18:25pretty big deal because you don't have short rest.
- 18:28So recoveries are sort of like your hit die, but they're your
- 18:31hit die on the go. You know, you can just burn them
- 18:33whenever. So it's kind of a big deal to
- 18:36give up your own recoveries for somebody else.
- 18:39That is like a relevant thing. It might not, it might not read
- 18:43as like a big deal, but in play it does end up being a big deal.
- 18:46So. It definitely does, yeah.
- 18:51Yeah. And then the other with, I think
- 18:53there was one other ever domain that that bad sensor signature
- 18:57abilities. What was the one other thing I
- 19:00wanted to say? Well, now I'm not remembering.
- 19:06But either way, those are the kind of the main that's the
- 19:09sensor's main bits and bobs. They have the judgement, they
- 19:12have the my life for yours thing.
- 19:13They all. They also get their own deities.
- 19:15Sensors do get kits, which we haven't gotten to what kits are,
- 19:19but essentially sensors can use equipment is what that means.
- 19:23Not all classes get kits, so that is a relevant.
- 19:26Thing I believe the only one who doesn't is the Fury.
- 19:31Nope, Conduit, Elementalist, Null, and Talent all do not get
- 19:35kits. Oh, weird.
- 19:39None of them get kits. The Fury does get kits so I
- 19:45don't know what you're referring to.
- 19:48I don't know, I I feel like I read somewhere that the the Fury
- 19:51didn't get a kit. No, the Fury definitely does the
- 19:54Fury. Has this?
- 19:54Fury doesn't get armor in their kit I think.
- 19:57No, they do. It ain't OK.
- 19:59There's no unarmour defense in this game.
- 20:01There is a there are kits that you can choose that explicitly
- 20:04say you don't wear armor, but that's a choice.
- 20:09There's no unarmored defense but you can take like there's the
- 20:12Panther kit which is no armor but heavy weapon and that is the
- 20:16recommended kit for the fury because that's the Conan style
- 20:19kit. Next we have the conduit.
- 20:23The conduit does not get a kit so that's a relevant 1.
- 20:30The conduit also obviously gets a deity and domains, but the
- 20:35conduit gets 2. So the conduit actually gets to
- 20:40take two different domains and smack them together, which is a
- 20:46cool, fun thing. And that just, you know,
- 20:51thematically that comes from the fact that a lot of the gods in
- 20:54the setting cover lots of different kind of domains.
- 20:58They don't generally have just one.
- 21:00And also it just adds to the sort of customizability of the
- 21:03conduit as a class. The cool thing about the conduit
- 21:07and their heroic resources, they have piety.
- 21:11And what's really fun about this is you can you gain piety at the
- 21:18start of each year turn. Additionally though, if you
- 21:23would like to get more piety, you can pray.
- 21:27And basically you roll AD 3, which is to say, you know AD 6,
- 21:33but you roll AD 3. And if you get a three, you get
- 21:362 additional piety and you can activate one of your special
- 21:39domain effects from your prayer. If you roll A2, you get one
- 21:44additional piety, nothing else. If you roll A1, you still get
- 21:49your 1 piety, but you also take 1D6 plus your level and damage.
- 21:55So you can actively piss the gods off and they can give you a
- 21:58little a little smack and you can do that every single turn.
- 22:02So depending on how how risky you're feeling, you know, you
- 22:06can, you know, live, live life for the Gambo.
- 22:11Basically the cool thing with the prayer effect is depending
- 22:16on which domains you pick, if you get that three the prayer
- 22:19effect after you pray. Like if we take the let's say
- 22:25the death domain, if you get the prayer effect, you inflict a
- 22:28deadly curse on up to two enemies within 10 squares of
- 22:31you. Each target takes corruption
- 22:32damage equal to twice your intuition score.
- 22:36So essentially you get like a little mini spell effect that
- 22:40goes off right at the start of your turn for rolling that
- 22:44prayer. Then because the other thing
- 22:51that's notable about the conduit is because they do not get a
- 22:55kit, so they don't have gear, they get a prayer and a ward.
- 23:01And these are essentially little like they're passives that you
- 23:05can swap out on a respite that will take the place of kit
- 23:10bonuses. So like for example, the
- 23:13recommended prayer it it tells you to take under the quick
- 23:16build is prayer of distance, which is you have a + 2 bonus to
- 23:22distance on your range magic abilities.
- 23:24And then the recommended ward it tells you to take is the Bastion
- 23:27ward, which is you have a plus one bonus to saving throws, but
- 23:33there's four of each or no, there's 12345 prayers and then
- 23:39123444 wards. And you can mix and match those
- 23:46out as you will on a respite. So you don't get gear, but you
- 23:50get that extra little customized option.
- 23:55And then obviously we have all our signature abilities and
- 23:57stuff. Those all work the same.
- 23:59And then the one, I think there was one other thing.
- 24:05Oh no, I mentioned that. Yeah, that's the main.
- 24:11That's the main shit with the conduit.
- 24:13And then obviously I'm not going to keep restating it, but with
- 24:17every class, as you go up in levels, you get more signature
- 24:20abilities and more heroic abilities, as well as features,
- 24:24which features are kind of your main outside of combat abilities
- 24:29that let you do a little extra thing or whatever.
- 24:34In the case of the Conduit, I guess it is worth pointing out
- 24:37that your features are tied to your domain selections.
- 24:40So for example, if you chose the what is it?
- 24:45Love domain? I think yeah love domain.
- 24:47You get the blessing of compassion.
- 24:50You gain an edge on any test made to assist another creature
- 24:54with a test. So essentially you can give a +
- 24:572 bonus to anybody. Additionally, when you present,
- 25:00when you are present at the start of a negotiation, 1 NPC of
- 25:04your choice as their patience increase by 1 and the first Test
- 25:08made to influence them gains of edge, meaning you're better at
- 25:12negotiating because people think you're cool and friendly, so
- 25:15they have more patience and you gain a bonus to that initial
- 25:18test. So those are, those are like
- 25:20some example features you get. Then we go from conduit, we go
- 25:26down to the elementalist and the elementalist, like I said, is
- 25:31like I said last time, is kind of your it's your wizard mostly,
- 25:41but also kind of not it. Well, I.
- 25:44Was going to say there's no wizard in this.
- 25:48There isn't really a standard wizard.
- 25:50The elementalist is the closest thing you're going to get, but
- 25:52the elementalist is a little bit more thematically sorcerer esque
- 25:57in the DND sense, a little bit. There isn't really the bookner
- 26:02guy who reads real hard to get his spells.
- 26:05That's not quite there. I would like to see that, but
- 26:09yeah, that's kind of not there. Basically, the elementalists,
- 26:13they pick an element for their subclass and then that's
- 26:19dictates some of their features that they get, but it doesn't
- 26:22dictate their signature abilities and it doesn't dictate
- 26:28their heroic abilities. So you can be a fire
- 26:31elementalist, but you can still pick up heroic abilities from
- 26:35the other elements. So you could be like, I'm a fire
- 26:39wizard, but I'm also going to take this this green heroic
- 26:43ability. Yeah, it's, I think the closest
- 26:47you could think about it is you're a, you're a spellcaster
- 26:51or a wizard from Warhammer Fantasy where like you follow
- 26:55the wins, but you can sort of like eek your way into some of
- 26:59the other wins, but you can't go too far from your own stuff like
- 27:02that. Yeah, I mean, you can go, you
- 27:07can. The funny thing is, so like you
- 27:09pick your subclass, which is your elemental specialization,
- 27:14and that will give you the features based on that.
- 27:17But you can pick every other heroic and signature ability
- 27:20cannot be the same as your subclass.
- 27:23So you could completely ignore all of the like obvious
- 27:26selection ones if you wanted. So you could have your fire
- 27:29features from your fire subclass and then take all void void
- 27:33based heroic abilities. You know, so you can mix and
- 27:38match pretty pretty all over the place.
- 27:41Yeah, I mean the, the, the comparison doesn't 100% work,
- 27:43but the idea being like you're a, you're a spellcaster of some
- 27:48sort of prereq in this distance, you know the elements.
- 27:52Yeah, and you got big Avatar. Energy.
- 27:55A bit, yeah. Something I do want to point out
- 28:00that kind of bugs me, and I understand why they did this, I
- 28:05just don't like how they did it. So the elementalists, under the
- 28:11elemental specializations, it lists out all of the elements
- 28:14and you might say, oh, so air, earth, fire, water, right?
- 28:18No, there's 8. There's. 7 There's seven.
- 28:21Sorry, there's seven. So you have air, earth, fire and
- 28:24water. There's those four.
- 28:25You also have the green, the rot, and the void.
- 28:31And you know, those are basically in universe Canon,
- 28:34like cosmology elements based around, you know what Matt
- 28:40Colville's ideas for the setting and stuff.
- 28:43The thing that bugs me, they list all seven of them.
- 28:46You can only pick three of them that kind or sorry, you can pick
- 28:55four of them. Sorry, you can pick earth, fire,
- 28:57green and void. So there's no water and there's
- 29:01no air and there's no rot subclass.
- 29:06And I don't mind that because so I was Matt Colville put out a
- 29:11video talking about all the classes on very broad strokes
- 29:14like literally like 2 days ago. And he mentioned that the reason
- 29:17they put it there is so that you would have an idea for what the
- 29:20elements are like in Vezluria in the setting.
- 29:24Which I'm fine with. Just don't put them in the list
- 29:29with the subclasses 'cause that makes it seem like I can pick
- 29:32them when I cannot. So instead, what I would have
- 29:35much preferred is if they list out the ones you could pick and
- 29:38then had another chunk of paragraph that says there's also
- 29:40these three other ones that are not in the game yet, but if
- 29:43you're curious about what the other ones are, here's what they
- 29:45are. You know what I mean?
- 29:46How odd is it that they made it Earth, fire, nature essentially,
- 29:52and space? Space and time and and void and
- 29:59teleporting. Yeah, something odd to I I, I
- 30:02don't 100% think I agree with the choices they made, but I
- 30:06guess they were trying to shift away from just a like the
- 30:09normal, you know, Avatar. Yeah, yes.
- 30:12Yes, but. It does make me feel a little
- 30:14incomplete. I think it was also because they
- 30:17did green. I think green was an obvious
- 30:18selection because like, well, we want to have some kind of a
- 30:20druid type character cause the green, if you want to be a
- 30:24druid, you play a green elementalist.
- 30:27So they wanted to have the Druid tape and I think they went with
- 30:29void. And I think think Matt actually
- 30:31literally said in the video, they basically gave us, gave us
- 30:34void because they just thought it was fucking cool and they
- 30:37just wanted to make the subclass and we're excited about it.
- 30:39So they went with void. It makes sense.
- 30:41I get it. It it's it's funny.
- 30:43Yeah, fire was the like fire was an obvious.
- 30:48You can't not have the fire guy in there.
- 30:50That one was obvious. So, you know, I probably, if it
- 30:54was up to me, I probably would have liked Fire Green.
- 31:02I don't know actually, it's it's a hard call to make actually,
- 31:06now that I'm thinking about it. I mean, I, I, I agree with with
- 31:10I do agree with void and green because if they had made it like
- 31:13rot, I, I, I think of this one, rot is the one I give a shit
- 31:18about the least. Like Rod has potential though.
- 31:23See, for me, rot is not when I can.
- 31:25Like, you know, when you're like, oh, I can't immediately
- 31:28think of a character I'd want with this.
- 31:29I can't think of one for Rot. Oh I think of like the the
- 31:32undead shrooms druid type vibe. Yeah, but I don't like, I don't
- 31:37100% vibe with it. I vibe with it post Dodo Hitoro
- 31:41because I like N, but like, yeah, exactly.
- 31:43I can't think of it. I can't.
- 31:45I don't want to play that character.
- 31:46You know what I mean? To me, that's not a character
- 31:48that's good for playing. That's a character that's good
- 31:50for interacting with as an NTC. Did you not?
- 31:52Did you not like Spores Druid in Five East?
- 31:54No. Well, you're allowed to be
- 31:57wrong, I guess. No, I didn't give a fuck about
- 31:59it. All right.
- 32:01Fucking I also didn't give a shit about the B druid.
- 32:05There is no B Druid. The the Swarm Druid.
- 32:09That's that's a Ranger. Oh, is that a Ranger?
- 32:10My bad. Yeah, I didn't give a shit about
- 32:12that one. Either that one's weird, but I
- 32:14could see some really creepy, uncomfortable characters you can
- 32:17make with that one. Yeah, I mean, so you have two
- 32:19options. You have Devorah or the Fury
- 32:23from Metal Gear Solid. Or Shinji and Naruto.
- 32:28Or not Shinji. Shino Shino.
- 32:33Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyway.
- 32:39The fucking character. I love Sheena, I always thought
- 32:42he was sick as fuck. There's a joke in the Naruto fan
- 32:44base that he's the strongest character because across both
- 32:47series he never loses a single fight.
- 32:51He doesn't get in that many fights, but yes.
- 32:54But he's not in 1000. Yeah, Yeah.
- 32:56He's not in 1000. That's fair.
- 32:57That's fair. I get it.
- 32:58I get it doing better than 1010. There is.
- 33:03OK so there's a really funny joke for the Naruto storm games
- 33:07that I have between my high school friends where if you win
- 33:11a Shikamaru he's like all according to plan.
- 33:14We were doing like a a drinking tournament and someone was
- 33:17playing his Matera and dropped a meteorite on him and then got
- 33:20shut out in a clutch fight and he was like all according to
- 33:23plan. My friend started molting.
- 33:27He got so mad. He's like, I dropped a nuclear
- 33:32bomb on you. That was your fucking plan.
- 33:34Shut up. My others are like not bro, you
- 33:37don't understand. He just.
- 33:38It was all part of the plan. He's like, what is it?
- 33:43Oh God, what's the guy say? The sage of the 6th path?
- 33:44Nah, Shookamaro, Sage of the Seven Paths.
- 33:47He's that extra path. Nobody knows.
- 33:49He's the extra path. Love it.
- 33:53Akaromo. That's his name.
- 33:58Anyway, so yes, I I don't like that they listed all of the
- 34:00elements and then you can't pick all of the elements.
- 34:03That bugged me. It also confused me because I
- 34:05was scrolling through the elementalist trying to find the
- 34:08other three options and was like where are they?
- 34:11And they just weren't there, and I was.
- 34:12Like had the same problem I had with the talent where I was like
- 34:15yes wait I want to play the animopathy one where the fuck is
- 34:19that? So they not fucking there.
- 34:22They did the exact same thing that with the Elementalist as
- 34:25they did with the talent where they listed them all, but you
- 34:27can only pick three of them. Yes, they did the exact same
- 34:29thing. Again, I don't mind you throwing
- 34:32in the lore, just throw in the lore separately so it doesn't
- 34:35look like it's part of the list of things I can pick.
- 34:39Right? Like I don't mind the again,
- 34:40it's not it's not the idea, it's the execution I'm annoyed about.
- 34:45Anyway, cool thing about the the elementalists.
- 34:52They're like one of the every class kind of has like their
- 34:55main fun little level 1 shtick thing.
- 34:58The element has persistent magic where they can kind of like
- 35:03effort in the without number games.
- 35:06They can permanently dock their one of, you know, one of their
- 35:11essence or one or more of their essence every turn to keep a
- 35:15spell going and then the effect of the spell to just keep on
- 35:19rolling, which is very fun. So you can put a dude in like a
- 35:24fire tornado and then just keep cooking them.
- 35:26Basically. They don't have anything super
- 35:32weird about how they acquire essence.
- 35:37They just sort of, they just kind of slowly build it up if I
- 35:40America correctly. Yeah, they basically just build
- 35:42it up and then the first time each combat round that you're a
- 35:45creature within 10 squares takes damage that isn't untyped or
- 35:49wholly damaged, you gain 1 essence.
- 35:53So nothing super fancy about that.
- 35:55They have a basic signature action called Hurl Element where
- 35:58it's just hit a foe with element thing.
- 36:02And then if you're curious, yes, they kind of sort of have
- 36:06prestidigitation. They have a thing called
- 36:08Practical Magic. It's not as good, but it's sort
- 36:13of kind of in that realm. If you're curious, again, I
- 36:19mentioned the we mentioned the so the earth is self-explanatory
- 36:22and fire pretty self-explanatory.
- 36:24The green, like I said, is your druid.
- 36:26So you're going to be doing a lot of like talking to animals,
- 36:29summoning plants, turning into animals, although you get the
- 36:33turning into animals at level 2. Void is like teleportation,
- 36:42manipulating space, adjusting like distances in time.
- 36:49It's a lot of like reality fuckery I guess is the easiest
- 36:53way to put it. I don't remember where it is,
- 36:58but one of the abilities that the void elementalist gets is
- 37:02you can just return to any place you've been whenever the fuck
- 37:06you want. I love that.
- 37:09It's like it's like distance is a something distances in a
- 37:15enigma or something like that. I don't even remember.
- 37:17I can't Fuck. I saw it today.
- 37:21Oh, there. Oh, wait, maybe it's that one.
- 37:22Hold on. There's no space between.
- 37:24It might be that one. No, it's not that one, because
- 37:30that's it wasn't a manoeuvre. That one's there is no space
- 37:34between. It's fun because you can just
- 37:36make portals all over the battlefield.
- 37:39Oh, is it this one? Wait each time you Oh yeah,
- 37:42distance is only a memory. Each time you finish a respite
- 37:45you you can open a two way portal that leads to any place
- 37:48you have previously been. You and your allies can pass
- 37:50through the portal, which remains open for one hour or
- 37:53until you dismiss it as a main action.
- 37:57Yeah, and you might be curious what what level do you get the
- 38:02make a portal? Whatever the fuck I want Level
- 38:053. Oh, let's go, dude.
- 38:08Yeah, like so not that far into. Granted, there is 10 levels in
- 38:14this game, so it's D&D equivalent.
- 38:16It's like level 5:00-ish, but still not that far.
- 38:19Level 6, level 5 range, still not that deep into your
- 38:22character. Similar to the Conduit.
- 38:27Because the Elementalist also does not get kits, they get
- 38:31enchantments. Did you play Dragon Age?
- 38:37Yes. OK, do you remember?
- 38:39Do you remember the little kid Dragon Age enchantments?
- 38:42No, so I didn't play Origins. Oh God damn it.
- 38:45All right. There's a little dwarf kid who's
- 38:46got like, I don't, I don't know, is maybe supposed to have like
- 38:49autism or something like that, or he only says enchantments,
- 38:51but he's like really good at making magical enchantments.
- 38:54So every time you go to talk to him, it just goes enchantments.
- 38:59It's just what made me think of. So yes, they have enchantments
- 39:05and they have wards which are basically the same thing as the
- 39:09prayers and the wards from the conduit.
- 39:11It's like customization options that you can pick to replace
- 39:14your kit option. The the Elementalist does have
- 39:18one that explicitly lets you take a kit however.
- 39:24Or it gives you the effect of a kit.
- 39:25It lets you wear light armor and wield a light weapon even though
- 39:28you don't have a kit. So there is one that basically
- 39:32replaces it. So I'm I'm trying to figure this
- 39:34out and I I thought I read this somewhere but I can't seem to
- 39:36find it now. If the game doesn't start you
- 39:39with a kit, does that mean that you just cannot take one?
- 39:44I have not looked at every perk and every title in the game, so
- 39:48I would be willing to bet there's probably a perk or a
- 39:50title that can grant you a kit. But yes, if your class does not
- 39:54grant you a kit, then you never get a kit.
- 39:58Like you can't go buy a kit for example.
- 40:01No, no, because kits are not purchased.
- 40:05Don't purchase kits, you just have them.
- 40:11Odd, but OK. Yeah.
- 40:13So like kits are fictionally they're like, you know,
- 40:16described as equipment, but mechanically they're effectively
- 40:21like power sets you swap out because you can change your kit
- 40:25on a respite and there's like no restriction on that.
- 40:30So you don't like purchase kits in any way.
- 40:33You don't buy gear in this game in that sense.
- 40:37So yeah, you don't have any. You if you if, yeah, if you
- 40:41can't get a kit, that's it. You can't get a kit unless you
- 40:44have something that explicitly says, oh, you get a kit for
- 40:47this. So yeah, gotcha.
- 40:51Obviously fictionally your character can be like, I have a
- 40:54staff or I have a book or whatever.
- 40:55But mechanically, you don't have a kit.
- 41:00Oh, the other important thing to note is the classes that do not
- 41:03have kits get 2 signature actions, whereas the classes
- 41:07that do have kits get one signature action.
- 41:09And the reason for that is because your kit gives you a
- 41:12signature action. So the classes that have kits
- 41:15get one from their class and one from the kit.
- 41:17The classes that don't have kits just get 2 from their class.
- 41:21I think that's all I meant. Wanted to go about with the
- 41:26elementalist. Then we have the Fury, Fury
- 41:30being our, our barbarian person. One really big complaint, and
- 41:36this is a very personal complaint.
- 41:40There's no rage, there's no sicko mode.
- 41:43And I just, I just hate that. I just want, I want a rage real
- 41:48bad. I just, I like my sicko modes.
- 41:49Let me have a sicko mode. That's one thing that 5E gives
- 41:52me all the time, and I love it. Yeah, I agree.
- 41:56No, I mean, yeah, I think I said the episode.
- 41:59Yeah, there if my favorite thing in in role-playing games is a
- 42:02sicka mode. And if you can't give me a sicka
- 42:03mode, give me a summon. Yes, you can get summons.
- 42:08Also, do you know about the first new class that they're
- 42:11working on for the game? No.
- 42:13It's Summoner. All is right with the world.
- 42:17It is, yes. It's very explicitly Summoner.
- 42:23So the Fury is your barbarian fellow.
- 42:26I said they don't have a sicko mode.
- 42:28If you choose a storm white, you turn into an animal lichen
- 42:31throat person. So like that is kind of a sicko
- 42:33mode. But I want the berserker to have
- 42:35a rage and they don't. They do have ferocity, which as
- 42:41it increases, you get additional effects, which is pretty similar
- 42:45to a rage, but you have to like build up to it.
- 42:47You can't just like activate rage.
- 42:50So, you know, it's sort of kind of there the, the theory is
- 43:00pretty straightforward. They do get a kit.
- 43:04They, like I said, they have their ferocity thing.
- 43:07So their, their heroic resource is ferocity.
- 43:13And basically they, they have every, each of the subclasses
- 43:17has a table associated with it. And so as it goes from 2:00 to
- 43:214:00 to 6:00 to 8:00 to 11:50, you unlock more abilities or you
- 43:27unlock like passive buffs as your ferocity goes up.
- 43:29And then you can obviously you have to spend ferocity though,
- 43:32to use your, your heroic abilities.
- 43:35So there's that back and forth. Like I was saying before, to
- 43:40give like a basic example for the Berserker, if you have two
- 43:44ferocity, whenever you use the knockback maneuver, the force
- 43:47movement distance gains a bonus equal to your might score.
- 43:50And then at 4 ferocity, the first time you push your
- 43:52creature on your turn, you gain a surge.
- 43:54And then at six ferocity, you gain an edge on might test and
- 43:57the knockback maneuver. And so it kind of goes on from
- 43:59there. You also unlock more of the
- 44:03table at level 4-7 and ten. The the Fury's main shtick
- 44:10honestly, is the fury and the Knoll.
- 44:12They're two things is they're the guys that can move enemies
- 44:15around on the battlefield a lot. So the fury has a lot of like
- 44:18smack you away or grab you and pull you to me or smash everyone
- 44:22around me type abilities such as their move tide of death.
- 44:26Oh, no, actually tide of death doesn't move you.
- 44:33Oh out of the way out of the way forces everybody to slide
- 44:37around. They also have a signature
- 44:41ability, brutal slam, which reminders signature abilities
- 44:44you can do every single turn. So they can push an enemy 1-2 or
- 44:49four squares every single turn for no cost.
- 44:54So worth worth noting. Now there are some there is a
- 44:59stat in this game called stability, which essentially if
- 45:03you go to push something and their stability is higher than I
- 45:07think your mite. I forget exactly we'll get to
- 45:09that later. You just can't move them.
- 45:16The one weird thing about the fury or the sort of weirder
- 45:20subclasses, the stormlight, and that's the you turn into a
- 45:24lycanthrope. You're either a bear, a wolf, a
- 45:26Raven, or a rat and Raven. Raven is an odd choice.
- 45:33I think where Ravens are sick. We have art of them.
- 45:40There is art of the lycanthrope one and the bear 1.
- 45:42I don't think there is Raven art unfortunately, but I love the
- 45:46idea of where Ravens. Yeah, well, so I do too because
- 45:50my my boy Corvus coax in warmer 40K currently could turn into a
- 45:53weird Raven demon thing. So I love the idea.
- 45:55I just it's not what I would expect from from a game like,
- 45:58you know, so you get like where bear, where tiger, where rat, I
- 46:01can see. Yeah, well, we got wolf, wolf,
- 46:04bear, rat and Raven. Yeah, but yeah, basically if you
- 46:11choose the Storm White Fury, you turn into animal mode and you
- 46:15don't, You don't use a weapon, you just go sicko mode and fuck
- 46:20people up with your claws 'cause you know, werewolf, which is
- 46:25sick, which is sick. Don't get me wrong.
- 46:27We we touched on it a little bit, but a perfect example of
- 46:30what we were talking about last time with the art that's a
- 46:31little awkward is on the Fury. There's the the orc that's
- 46:36decapitating the two skeletons. Yes, it's a little hard to read
- 46:40what's going on. I know what's going on.
- 46:42That's that's a backswing. Yes, the backswing looks odd, a
- 46:46little off. Yeah, I.
- 46:47Agree. Because it yeah, because that's
- 46:49a ready position that's I'm going to swing down.
- 46:52If she was the back swing, it'd be like a baseball player where
- 46:55one hand is off, the other one is super far curled behind.
- 46:58Yes, also the facing of the axe makes it look like she cut their
- 47:02heads off with the back of the axe.
- 47:04Which doesn't, yeah. Yeah, no, I know.
- 47:07I saw that. I did.
- 47:10Yeah. So that's the fury.
- 47:13Yeah. Nothing crazy.
- 47:14Nothing, nothing else crazy there.
- 47:16Then we get to the Knoll. The Knoll is your monk guy.
- 47:20It's your punchy unarmed guy. But the Knoll is very explicitly
- 47:25psionically powered. So they are the punchy guy, but
- 47:30they are also like I can punch you across time guy, because you
- 47:35have the chronokinetic, which is where you can just you just can
- 47:41ignore the flow of time. You have the cryo kinetic, which
- 47:44is like make thing cold and then the meta kinetic, which I think
- 47:50is the illusion Y one. Yeah or no, it's the OR it's the
- 47:54ignore illusions. It's the I'm anti illusion 1.
- 48:00The Knoll does not get a kit because they paunch.
- 48:05They don't need weapons, they paunch the interesting little.
- 48:11One of the interesting main ability that the Knoll gets is
- 48:14the Knoll field, which is where they effectively open up a field
- 48:18around them and reduce the potency of people's effects by
- 48:22one. They can also spend some of
- 48:26their discipline to activate additional effects under the
- 48:31Knoll field. But yeah, the main thing about
- 48:32the Knoll is that they power down everyone else's shit around
- 48:36them. I, you know, it's interesting.
- 48:38So the, the cryokinetics subclass is not really about
- 48:44ice. It's about like entropy, like
- 48:49robbing things of of motion. So you might be like ice feels
- 48:56like a weird choice for no, it's not actually, it makes a lot of
- 49:00sense. It's just a case of weird
- 49:01naming. There is like ice stuff, right?
- 49:03Like Wall of Ice 9 discipline as a sixth level ability, but a lot
- 49:08of it's earlier stuff is just like entropy and robbing stuff
- 49:12of of momentum. It's like kind of both, but.
- 49:16You're making it cold, as in like the molecules are not
- 49:19moving as fast. Cold, Yes, you are forcing the
- 49:21molecules to stop. Yeah, that's exactly what's
- 49:23going on. Which is that's actually kind of
- 49:26cooler than I initially thought. Exactly that's what I'm saying.
- 49:29Fucking crowd connect is cool as shit.
- 49:30Yeah. Level 2 in Tropic field you
- 49:32drastically increase local entropy.
- 49:34That's cool as fuck. Yeah.
- 49:37What I'm saying is is don't sleep on cryo kinetic for null
- 49:40because it's pretty. Cool.
- 49:40Yeah, Yeah. As I you might also might like
- 49:45ice so that's you know and the cryo kinetic is cool too, but
- 49:48like. Fair, yeah I mean I love ice,
- 49:50it's my favorite element anytime we're dealing with any kind of
- 49:52like fantasy superpower nonsense.
- 49:57As we established, the Null does not have a kit, so they also get
- 49:592 signature abilities. They also have their
- 50:08augmentations which are again kind of like the like the
- 50:14enchantments or the prayers for the for the conduit, same kind
- 50:17of idea. You can pick up some bonuses
- 50:19that make up for the lack of a kid.
- 50:23The Knoll also kind of straightforward, but it's about
- 50:29how you build the Knoll where you can do some really cool
- 50:31shit. Like you can focus on some very
- 50:33specific methods and the knolls ability.
- 50:40The Knoll is also the other class where it's just like you
- 50:42just move around when I say you do.
- 50:47I'm trying to remember if there was any other.
- 50:51Yeah, I think that's yeah. Then we have the shadow.
- 50:57The shadow is your rogue guy. Funny enough, the the Shadows
- 51:02subclasses are called Colleges, which I thought was interesting
- 51:05choice. The idea not tell that the the
- 51:10shadow character was a wode elf for the longest time.
- 51:14She is a wode elf, yes. Because she didn't have any like
- 51:16this the the face like the face fuzz.
- 51:19But she has the big ears. She you're right, she has the
- 51:21big bat ears. So I was like is cuz the the
- 51:23shadows get well, no, the shadows do get a sicko mode.
- 51:26They get their do that. Yes, yes, they have their oh
- 51:31God, what the it's like called like their umbrel form or
- 51:33something like that. I don't remember that one to
- 51:38TBH. Basically for a while I just
- 51:40thought that it was that like whatever the umbral form looked
- 51:44like, because they're always wreathed in shadow.
- 51:47Well now hold on let's let's find it since you OK Umbral.
- 51:50It's literally called umbral form as you lose control of
- 51:53yourself, becoming a shadow creature dripping with ash.
- 51:56This transformation lasts until the end of the encounter, until
- 51:59you're a dying, or after one uninterrupted hour of Quiet
- 52:02Focus. Outside of combat, you gain the
- 52:04following effects. You can automatically climb at
- 52:05full speed. Enemy spaces don't count as
- 52:08difficult to reign. An enemy make takes corruption
- 52:10damage equal to your agility score the first time you pass
- 52:12through them. You end your turn with cover or
- 52:15concealment from another creature.
- 52:16If you end your turn, you are automatically hidden from that
- 52:19creature. You gain 1 surge at the start of
- 52:20each of your turns. That's strong.
- 52:23You have corruption immunity equal to 5 plus your level.
- 52:25Creatures gain an edge on strikes against you.
- 52:29You take a Bane on Presence test made to interact with other
- 52:32creatures. You're just creepy.
- 52:33Nobody wants to talk to you. The weird one for me was the
- 52:39people get edges to hit you but you're like a weird shadow.
- 52:43I feel like I almost thought that was a typo.
- 52:46I I guess the idea being that you're you're not in control of
- 52:52yourself so you're not dodging as well because it's like you're
- 52:54weird monster mode you're. Not.
- 52:56Potentially out of the way of attacks.
- 52:58That's that was my assumption. The shadow.
- 53:03So yeah, you pick colleges. You have the College of black
- 53:05ash, the College of caustic alchemy, and the College of the
- 53:09Harlequin mask. Black Ash is your sort of weird
- 53:15Smokey high mobility ninja vanished guy.
- 53:18Caustic Alchemy is your alchemist dude.
- 53:20You make poisons and bombs and shit.
- 53:22Harlequin mask is like illusion magic guy for the most part.
- 53:28The shadows main heroic resources insight.
- 53:33They don't do anything super weird with it from what I
- 53:35remember. Oh the Knowles resources
- 53:38discipline by the way, in case you curious.
- 53:41I think I said them all last time, but whatever the the the
- 53:46really cool main ability that the shadow gets is called
- 53:51hesitation is weakness, which is so the way initiative works in
- 53:56this game. It goes players, monsters,
- 53:59players monsters, player monsters, it goes back and
- 54:01forth. The shadow can as soon as
- 54:05another player characters ends their turn, they can immediately
- 54:09start their turn. So the shadow it can make to
- 54:12make it so that it's two player turns in a row and that is a
- 54:15signature ability. It is a free trigger and it has
- 54:21no cost of any kind. So you can do it every single
- 54:23turn. So effectively, if you have a
- 54:27shadow on the team, you know a good chance they are going to
- 54:32they're going to double team up with one of the characters every
- 54:35turn because there's not any reason for them not to for the
- 54:39most part, which is fun. The shadow does get a kit.
- 54:48And then the other thing they have is their there I'm no
- 54:53threat thing or no, that's actually sorry.
- 54:55I'm no threats up from the Harlequin subclass.
- 54:56Never mind, I thought that was a main ability.
- 55:00It's not the Oh yeah, the black ash subclass gets the
- 55:06teleporting thingy and then the caustic alchemy.
- 55:09You get a smoke bomb and a poison blade ability, which are
- 55:12fun. Shadow's probably the simplest
- 55:18class in the game, which might sound weird because I don't
- 55:25know. Do people think of Rogue as the
- 55:26simplest class usually? I feel like no, no, I mean,
- 55:30they're not that. Hard.
- 55:31Is shadow the easiest or the simplest?
- 55:34In this game, I would say, yeah, Shadow's the simplest to play.
- 55:39The only other one is maybe the tactician.
- 55:41You could argue, but the Tactician requires tactician.
- 55:44Work right tactician? Is this like?
- 55:48You can kind of ignore the teamwork to a degree as the
- 55:51shadow. Like it's better if you do the
- 55:53teamwork, obviously, but you could kind of be like, you know
- 55:56what I mean? I I guess.
- 56:00Like you can, you can be out for yourself a decent amount.
- 56:07Yeah, I I feel like Shadow's probably the simplest.
- 56:14Speaking of the tactician, the one after the shadow is the
- 56:17tactician. The tactician is your.
- 56:22The tactician is the only class that is dude, MC guy, Jim just
- 56:26just doody bro MC Guy. Like if you want to play the
- 56:30mundane dude without all the weird superpowers, the tactician
- 56:34is the only character that's really going to do that for you.
- 56:38In the future. They may release more classes
- 56:39that are in that vibe. I don't know.
- 56:41But yeah, tacticians kind of all you got.
- 56:43Their whole thing is they're a tactician.
- 56:49They help plan out the battle for everybody else.
- 56:53They help other. They have abilities to like,
- 56:56help people recover, help people attack off their turn, help
- 57:00people position themselves off turn, like they can manipulate
- 57:03the battlefield, like a sort of General Lee vibe.
- 57:07Their subclasses are Insurgent Mastermind and Vanguard
- 57:14insurgent. I actually don't know how to
- 57:19describe the the differences on the subclasses for the
- 57:22technician to be honest. They're all like they're kind of
- 57:27similar. I think Vanguard is supposed to
- 57:28be the most up in the face one on the front line.
- 57:32Insurgent, you're like, Insurgent is a little odd.
- 57:37You're kind of you're like close to the shadow.
- 57:40You're you're kind of you're not, you're not exactly solid
- 57:43Snake, but like. You're in that, yeah.
- 57:45You're like, yeah. You're in that vibe because you
- 57:47have proficiency and things like proficiency, you have a a like
- 57:51skills points. Yeah.
- 57:52You have skills for things like intrigue and you get stuff for
- 57:55like the sitting in. It's a little, Yeah, it's a
- 58:00little odd. Vanguard, you are.
- 58:04The most upfront guy. Yes, you are.
- 58:06Basically you're the tank. You just you, you walk up, put
- 58:09down big shield and Dick firmly on table.
- 58:13And Mastermind is more of the battle mastery shit that people
- 58:15think. OK, OK.
- 58:18Yeah. I feel like the the differences
- 58:20between the texticians are a little trickier to parse apart
- 58:26at first. Well, at the Sensor 1's kind of
- 58:30R2 actually. Sorry, I was just looking at
- 58:36something else. Yeah, I mean, I I don't have a
- 58:41ton to say. I'm the tactician.
- 58:43Like that's their bit. They're the tactician guy.
- 58:48They don't. So their main they they have a
- 58:53marking ability, which doesn't work exactly the same as the
- 58:57censors judgement, but a similar thing.
- 58:59Their big thing too that they have is strike now, which is
- 59:03they can target an ally and an ally can use their signature
- 59:06ability off their turn, which is pretty good.
- 59:11So essentially the tactician can be like, Oh, I can't, I can't do
- 59:16anything effective right now, but my teammate who's closer to
- 59:19the enemy can. So I'm going to tell them to
- 59:21attack instead. So you burn your turn for the
- 59:23sake of them doing the thing, which some people might not
- 59:27like. Oh, I guess the other thing
- 59:31that's important to know is their their fear, their field
- 59:33arsenal ability. They take two kits and smash
- 59:38them together and get the the they get the best benefits of
- 59:43both, so they don't stack. Like if one kit gave you speed
- 59:48bonus plus one and the other gave you speed bonus +2, you
- 59:52don't have a + 3, you would have a +2.
- 59:54You take whatever the better of the two numbers are.
- 59:57So the idea is you take two kits that don't have a lot of
- 1:00:00overlapping effects and smash them together and you can get,
- 1:00:02you know, quite useful benefits from both.
- 1:00:05And the idea is that you're. Kitted the fuck out.
- 1:00:09You have lots of weapons and your armours high quality and
- 1:00:12you know how to use all these different tools 'cause you're
- 1:00:14the tactician, you're the the weapon mastery guy.
- 1:00:19Apparently Matt Koval was saying in the video too that at one
- 1:00:22point in time the tactician was going to be the weapon master
- 1:00:25character, back when the game had like a detailed equipment
- 1:00:32list. But eventually they got to the
- 1:00:35point where they decided that they didn't want to have the
- 1:00:38long D&D style equipment list for this game, so the weapon
- 1:00:41master guy didn't fit as well. That must have been a nightmare
- 1:00:46to to redo. To redo?
- 1:00:47Yeah, I would think so, yes. I'm I'm look, I'm I am the guy
- 1:00:53where it's like, no, don't get rid of the mechanic, just fix
- 1:00:56it. I think in that instance I I
- 1:00:58just throw my hands up, be like fuck it, throw it out.
- 1:01:02Yeah, yeah, it would be. I mean, who knows, maybe they'll
- 1:01:05come up with something in the future that makes a lot of
- 1:01:06sense. But yeah, right now I that would
- 1:01:10be difficult for sure. Oh, the other other important
- 1:01:14thing that's worth noting from the Field Arsenal ability is you
- 1:01:18get both of the signature abilities from the two kits,
- 1:01:21which is relevant. So you get extra signature
- 1:01:24abilities or not extra, but you get your two come from two
- 1:01:29different kits, which is a different method than everybody
- 1:01:34else. You still have two like everyone
- 1:01:37else. But yeah, you can mix and match
- 1:01:39them a little more And the the talents rogue resources, their
- 1:01:46focus, which I think they Nope, sorry, that's the wrong bit.
- 1:01:55Yeah, each time The first time, each combat round that you are
- 1:01:58an ally, damage a creature marked by you, you gain 1 focus.
- 1:02:01The first time in a combat, then an ally within 10 squares of you
- 1:02:03uses heroic ability, you gain 1 focus.
- 1:02:07The tactician is very supporty guy.
- 1:02:11They're very like the, the what sort I'm looking for, the
- 1:02:15fantasy of them is supposed to be the battlefield commander,
- 1:02:18right? So they're very much about
- 1:02:21helping everyone out. So if you want to play direct,
- 1:02:24fighty, punchy man, Texas is sort of that, but sort of not
- 1:02:29that, to be honest. Yeah you are.
- 1:02:31If you want to just be a straight up bruiser your your
- 1:02:34better bet is going with either fury or sensor.
- 1:02:38Yeah, or the Knoll if you want to do the unarmed thing,
- 1:02:42obviously. Yeah, so you know what's funny?
- 1:02:44This the the the thing I can see, like the for me tactician
- 1:02:50that they first thing comes to mind is like Zorro, like you
- 1:02:55have a sword, you're good with your sword, but you're like
- 1:02:57doing the Jackie Chan think on your feet, you know, trip
- 1:03:00people, push them over, you know, do some weird acrobatic
- 1:03:04like high bar shit that every old character did back in the
- 1:03:08day. Not how I would have put it, but
- 1:03:10interesting. After the tactician, we have the
- 1:03:15one Isaiah's most excited about, which is the talent.
- 1:03:18Yes, Sir. The talent.
- 1:03:21Probably the most complicated, I would say.
- 1:03:25Yeah, So their thing. So like we mentioned, they have
- 1:03:31the the they have the talent traditions.
- 1:03:34There are 123456. So there's.
- 1:03:39Wait, did I count that wrong? Oh no, there's 8 of them listed.
- 1:03:43You can only pick three of them. So the three you can take are
- 1:03:48Chronopathy, Telekinesis, and Telepathy.
- 1:03:53Which, yeah, makes sense. Makes sense why they chose
- 1:03:58those. I would also want to play the
- 1:03:59Animopathy or the Metamorphosis. Metamorphosis But yeah, their
- 1:04:06big thing, like I mentioned, so they have clarity that they
- 1:04:09accrue. But the thing that's cool about
- 1:04:11the talent is they have they can go into strain where they can
- 1:04:14actually dock their clarity. So if they have one point of
- 1:04:19clarity and they want to cast the three clarity ability, they
- 1:04:22can go -2 to use that ability. However, if they go too low, I'm
- 1:04:31trying to remember is there like a threshold thing now I'm
- 1:04:34forgetting. I don't know.
- 1:04:36I know I don't think there's a threshold, but I so I think you
- 1:04:40can't spend if you're already negative, I believe is the
- 1:04:42situation. Right, right, right, right,
- 1:04:44right. So.
- 1:04:45If you go into the negatives, you can't spend any more, and
- 1:04:48every ability you have, if it takes you into the negative, it
- 1:04:51has like a specific readout. OK, yes, so you, OK, you can
- 1:04:57spend clarity you don't have pushing that heroic resource
- 1:04:59into negative numbers to a maximum negative value of 1 + a
- 1:05:03recent score. OK, so that's your Max negative
- 1:05:05At the end of each of your turns, you take one damage for
- 1:05:08each negative point of clarity. Whenever you have a clarity
- 1:05:12below 0, you are strained. Some psionic abilities have
- 1:05:15additional effects if you're already strained or become
- 1:05:17strained when you use them. Strained effects can still
- 1:05:20impact you even after you're no longer strained.
- 1:05:22You lose any remaining clarity and negative clarity at the end
- 1:05:25of the encounter. OK, so there is a Max based on
- 1:05:27your reason score. All right, that's what that that
- 1:05:29was the bit I missed in terms of talents also don't have kits, so
- 1:05:40they get their they get augmentations, scionic
- 1:05:43augmentations and talent words. These again work the same as the
- 1:05:46elementalist enchantments and the conduits prayers and all
- 1:05:49that. They're sort of little, little
- 1:05:52passes you can swap out because you don't get kit benefits.
- 1:05:55And of course you also get the two signature actions.
- 1:06:03The I said the talent's the most complicated.
- 1:06:06They're they're not the most, they're set up like all the
- 1:06:10other classes, but their individual abilities are the
- 1:06:16most complicated ones I guess is the easiest way to put it.
- 1:06:20Right. Yes, because they have their
- 1:06:22standard ability, they have their strained rebound and then
- 1:06:27you have one for each of the the talents subclasses, the
- 1:06:30traditions and they have the most the traditions like.
- 1:06:35Well, I was just saying what I meant is like the just the
- 1:06:38signature and heroic abilities listed tend to be the more
- 1:06:41complicated ones compared to the effects that other classes get
- 1:06:44from their heroic abilities and signature abilities.
- 1:06:46Yes, they do have the, if you take chronopathy, one that's
- 1:06:52kind of crazy is you have an ability called again, which is
- 1:06:55somebody makes an ability role and you can just make them re
- 1:06:58roll. And do it again.
- 1:07:00Just do it again. Which is like, huh, OK.
- 1:07:05Really got to hit him with the the the army NCO with again.
- 1:07:10Again, Yeah, the idea being that you rewind time a little bit to
- 1:07:13let them video. Just to fuck people over.
- 1:07:17Well, you can do it on allies or enemies, so.
- 1:07:19You can yeah. It just I I think about God, I
- 1:07:23keep tangenting. I think about that the the bit
- 1:07:25in the 40K hook infinitely divine when 2 necrons take each
- 1:07:29other to court and the one is in time travel and he keeps losing
- 1:07:32the court case so he keeps time travelling back to make a new
- 1:07:35argument in the court case. And keeps hoping he'll get it.
- 1:07:39Yeah, it's funny. Yeah.
- 1:07:44That's the, that's, that's your bit with the talent.
- 1:07:48Like we said, you get all your you know.
- 1:07:50Again, like I said last time, I am not going to describe every
- 1:07:54ability. We would never, ever.
- 1:07:57We'd be on like 8 episodes and like we'd.
- 1:07:59Be trapped here forever. I like this game, but this game
- 1:08:01ain't no fabulous Ultima I'm not willing to spend that much time
- 1:08:04on. It, well, more importantly, it
- 1:08:06would get really dry if as I'm just reading ability texts over
- 1:08:09and over and over again. So that's the more important
- 1:08:11part, yeah. And the talent, I guess we
- 1:08:20should just clarify just in case anyone slightly unclear by the
- 1:08:22name, the talent is your like Jean Grey, psychic powered
- 1:08:28psionic character. They blow shit up with their
- 1:08:34mind and manipulate time and create ice and fire and do
- 1:08:37everything with their mind. That's the important thing.
- 1:08:45And then lastly we have the Troubadour, which is your Bard
- 1:08:48guy. So the Troubadour subclasses are
- 1:08:55the Artour, the Dualist, and the Virtuoso.
- 1:08:58The Dualist is your, you know, swashbuckler rape your wielding
- 1:09:04like performative dance of death guy.
- 1:09:06The virtuoso is your little bit more standard default Bard of
- 1:09:11weaving magic and, you know, playing the instrument to, you
- 1:09:16know, unlock the powers of reality.
- 1:09:19The Artur, however, is really fucking weird.
- 1:09:25So the idea behind me Artur is that the Artur Troubadour is
- 1:09:32telling the story of the game somewhere in the future.
- 1:09:39And all of their abilities are about rewriting the story to
- 1:09:42make it a better story. So it's the, it's the idea that
- 1:09:48like, you know, the beginning of the movie, the guy sits down at
- 1:09:50the desk and starts, you know, at the table and is like, let me
- 1:09:53tell you guys about this adventure I went on.
- 1:09:55And then the adventure you're playing is the story the Artur
- 1:09:58is telling. And so all of your abilities are
- 1:10:02like, you actively fuck with the continuity of the scene through
- 1:10:09the art tour's abilities. It's very strange.
- 1:10:15It's a It's got a lot of fun in it.
- 1:10:16I I looked at the fun a little bit.
- 1:10:18It's fun, but it's also weird. Like it's definitely the kind of
- 1:10:231 where some people are going to look at.
- 1:10:25Like I don't like the way that feels.
- 1:10:28Which fair? It's a little noodly, yeah.
- 1:10:31I don't mean because, I mean like the conceit, the idea of it
- 1:10:34being you're rewriting reality because you're telling a story.
- 1:10:37Like, I feel like people are not going to like that vibe, you
- 1:10:39know what I mean? Oh no I disagree.
- 1:10:41I think people will love that vibe.
- 1:10:43I mean, I think it's, I think it's fun, but.
- 1:10:45It might be frustrating for DMSI could see that.
- 1:10:49Well, no, it won't matter for DMS because mechanically you're
- 1:10:51still doing the same thing, it's just the flavour around it
- 1:10:54that's weird, you know, Like mechanically you're still doing
- 1:10:58relatively the same kind of idea as anybody else.
- 1:11:04Yeah, I suppose. The the flavour text for the
- 1:11:09ability, called blocking, says no, no no.
- 1:11:10You lose the audience that way. Try it like this at the at the
- 1:11:14end of each of your turns. While this performance is
- 1:11:16active, you can choose a number of targets equal to your present
- 1:11:18score and teleport those targets to unoccupied spaces in the
- 1:11:21area. A target can't be teleported
- 1:11:24this way that if it would harm them, such as off a Cliff, leave
- 1:11:27them dying or results in them suffering a condition or
- 1:11:29negative effect. So the idea is the the the
- 1:11:31Troubadour our tour is like no, no, I think they were over here
- 1:11:34when this happened and then they just are over there.
- 1:11:42The Troubadour, their heroic resources, drama, something that
- 1:11:48the Troubadour could do. That's kind of crazy.
- 1:11:51So when the troubadour goes down, you continue to gain drama
- 1:11:58during combat as long as your body is intact.
- 1:12:02If you have 30 drama during the encounter which you died, you
- 1:12:06come back to life with one stamina and 0 drama.
- 1:12:09No action. If you're still dead after the
- 1:12:11encounter in which you died, you can't gain drama during future
- 1:12:14encounters. So if you can rack up enough
- 1:12:16drama in the fight that you went down, you can just rewrite the
- 1:12:21continuity and be like no no I didn't actually die.
- 1:12:24Which just makes me think of the first Prince of Persia game
- 1:12:28where every time you would die, the Prince would narrate.
- 1:12:30Like no, I don't actually think that happened.
- 1:12:32Yeah, do you? Remember that?
- 1:12:35So that's kind of a wacky woo Hoo ability and they're the only
- 1:12:39ones that could do that in the game for sure, which is nuts.
- 1:12:47And then they also have their other big thing is they can do
- 1:12:51routines, which is effectively they go into a a performance and
- 1:12:57depending on which performance they're doing gives you these
- 1:13:00different kind of buffs. So like I mentioned, the
- 1:13:02blocking one before, that is a routine that the Artur gets.
- 1:13:07And then every all of the troubadours get choreography and
- 1:13:12revitalizing Limerick the choreography 1.
- 1:13:16When this performance is active, each target who starts their
- 1:13:18turn in the area gains a + 2 bonus of speed.
- 1:13:21And then the revitalizing Limerick is at the end of each
- 1:13:24of your turns. While this performance is
- 1:13:25active, you can choose up to a number of targets equal to your
- 1:13:27presence score. The chosen target can spend a
- 1:13:29recovery so you can do a Healy thing or a speed boosty thing.
- 1:13:33As you might imagine, the Troubadour is big on buffs and
- 1:13:40assistants and all that other. You know they're the Buffy
- 1:13:44supporty guy right? They're they're bards.
- 1:13:45They do the Bard thing. Also I mentioned I mentioned the
- 1:13:51Artor being weird. The Artor gets its own little
- 1:13:54side block specifically being like, hey, this subclass is
- 1:13:58weird. Just so you know it says
- 1:14:02abilities like guest * miscue and twist at the end.
- 1:14:05Allow the Artor to rewrite bits of what happened in the battle
- 1:14:08by temporarily removing creatures from an encounter,
- 1:14:10bringing people back to life, or causing an ally to appear.
- 1:14:14These features are no more powerful than any other, but
- 1:14:17they're narratively different from shooting rays of fire or
- 1:14:19swinging a sword. So they're acknowledging that
- 1:14:22the. Yeah, the Troubadour could do
- 1:14:24some very strange shit. Well, they are Tor 1
- 1:14:29specifically. The other two are a little more
- 1:14:30standard. Yeah, I mean, I really like the
- 1:14:36Troubadour. What a surprise.
- 1:14:40I don't know if I have a favorite class by looking at
- 1:14:43them. Obviously I'm partial to the
- 1:14:45troubadour, but yeah. I mean, so I mean for me,
- 1:14:50clearly it's talent. It's got to be talent.
- 1:14:52Troubadour's high though, I think they have some of the best
- 1:14:55flavour. Like some of their skills are
- 1:14:57called like power cord and like ballad and shit like that Star.
- 1:15:01Solo. Yeah, star solo so it's it's
- 1:15:04nailing the vibes I think better than a good amount of them and
- 1:15:07most of them nailed the vibe pretty well.
- 1:15:09But like ballad of the beast is like oh hell yeah, yeah, I think
- 1:15:15I think I got to go with the with talent.
- 1:15:16I just. Side by having.
- 1:15:19Played a Mystic. I just deeply desire to play a
- 1:15:21talent. Understandable on page 210.
- 1:15:26I love the the devil guy ripping a sick power cord on his loot in
- 1:15:29hell it looks like. Yes, OK, so this is one of the
- 1:15:33best instances of art because you can clearly tell what's
- 1:15:35going on and it's. Awesome.
- 1:15:38Yeah, it it goes pretty hard. Like that, he's got like, no,
- 1:15:42his eyes have no pupils in them. He's just really going for it.
- 1:15:46Ripping it, Yeah, and his. Like his lutes got like a weird
- 1:15:49little pipes like almost like a like a built in amp dude.
- 1:15:52It's. Yeah, yeah, it fucks.
- 1:15:54It fucks electricity shooting off of his secrets.
- 1:15:57It's great piece of art. Demons warring around him.
- 1:16:01Yeah, so that's the classes. God damn the yapping.
- 1:16:09Anyway, that's our classes. Anything you want to add about
- 1:16:12the oh, I actually 1 little thing I do want to mention
- 1:16:15because I forgot to mention it before in case you're curious.
- 1:16:19Yes, all of the classes do get capstone abilities at Max level.
- 1:16:24They are not related to your subclass.
- 1:16:26You get you get a class based capstone ability.
- 1:16:32But yes, everybody gets capstones.
- 1:16:34And yes, they're all pretty good.
- 1:16:39The Troubadour has one called Greatest of All time.
- 1:16:41When you obtain a success on the test, each NPC within your line
- 1:16:44of effect has their impression score decreased by 4 during a
- 1:16:48negotiation to minimum one, and each ally with within 3 squares
- 1:16:52of you gains an edge on their next test.
- 1:16:54These effects last until you start your next rest bite.
- 1:16:58You're just, you're just so awesome that you're just,
- 1:17:03everyone is like in awe of you. You're like damn he's fucking
- 1:17:06sick the easiest way to put it. Oh oh I also forgot to mention
- 1:17:14at level 10 you get a new heroic resource called an epic
- 1:17:17resource. So the troubadour for example
- 1:17:20gets applause each time you finish a rest bite, you gain
- 1:17:24applause equal to the XP you gained.
- 1:17:26You can spend applause on your abilities as as if it were
- 1:17:30drama. Additionally, whenever you were
- 1:17:33a creature within 3 squares would obtain a failure or a Tier
- 1:17:361 outcome on a test, you can spend 11 applause to improve the
- 1:17:40outcome by 1 tier. Applause remains until you spend
- 1:17:43it. So everyone gets like an
- 1:17:46upgraded version of their heroic talent at level 10.
- 1:17:49So what a resource? What I will say about the
- 1:17:51classes is when you look at the capstone abilities, they on the
- 1:17:57face of them are not super interesting.
- 1:18:01Like they're super powerful, but they're not that interesting.
- 1:18:03And I feel like you have to forgive this game for that
- 1:18:07because the other class abilities are so evocative and
- 1:18:11interesting and fun that you don't feel like you're losing
- 1:18:15anything by not having some crazy fuck off nuts capstone.
- 1:18:19You know what I mean? Well, I think it's it's also
- 1:18:21worth pointing out that the the capstone abilities in a vacuum
- 1:18:25by themselves might not come off as crazy, but the way that they
- 1:18:30combo with all of the other shit you've gotten up to that point
- 1:18:33makes them crazy, you know what I mean?
- 1:18:35Right, That's, that's what I mean too.
- 1:18:37Like they, they are strong for sure yeah.
- 1:18:39They end up being about like how 'cause we always talk about how
- 1:18:43in 5V it's like, you know, I don't really care if an ability
- 1:18:45is strong, it doesn't feel good, right, Right.
- 1:18:47Yeah, the rest of the class abilities feel super good.
- 1:18:52So, you know, you don't really recognize that the capstone
- 1:18:55doesn't feel good because you're having so much fun with the
- 1:18:57other facets of the game that it's like, oh, OK.
- 1:19:01And it does, you know, let you do, though.
- 1:19:03It's like each one is basically designed to let you do those
- 1:19:07things more. So it's just reinforcing itself.
- 1:19:10Yeah, and the thing about 5 E capstones is a lot of them are
- 1:19:14lame and they don't really interact that much with the rest
- 1:19:18of the club. Like they don't do anything that
- 1:19:20crazy with your other abilities, you know, whereas these like
- 1:19:23very explicitly combo with everything.
- 1:19:25So it it just it's like a good like a feedback loop kind of
- 1:19:31thing. And yeah, like, yeah, basically,
- 1:19:39yeah. You already have crazy, fucking
- 1:19:40ridiculous powers by level 10. It's like you don't really need
- 1:19:44it anymore. I mean, the, the level 11 or
- 1:19:48the, the, the 11 cost heroic abilities that you get get
- 1:19:52fucking wild. So, so after the kit.
- 1:19:58Oh, sorry. Well, now, OK, so now we're
- 1:20:00going to backtrack because they did this weird thing where they
- 1:20:02described some rules before the classes.
- 1:20:07So now we're going to get into more rules proper type shit.
- 1:20:12So, well, a lot of this I can kind of gloss over.
- 1:20:19It's not. We don't need to get too
- 1:20:20specific into it, but like before you get into the classes,
- 1:20:23it briefly mentions their heroic resources, which we talked
- 1:20:26about, heroic abilities and all that.
- 1:20:28Some keywords that aren't worth noting.
- 1:20:30You have area and charge area being meaning it's like an AOE.
- 1:20:38So if something says area three, that means it's 3 squares by
- 1:20:41three squares in terms of size. You have the charge keyword,
- 1:20:47which is like a type of action you can take where you literally
- 1:20:50charge and then hit somebody. There is a keyword for magic and
- 1:20:55psionic in this game, which basically means it just tells
- 1:21:01you the like quote UN quote origin of the ability, which
- 1:21:05does not have any rules in and of itself, but might need to be
- 1:21:07referenced from other abilities you have.
- 1:21:11Obviously mainly in range. That's fine.
- 1:21:14Strike keyword deal damage to or impose A harmful effect on
- 1:21:19specific creatures and objects. So you'll see the word strike
- 1:21:23used a lot. That just means you're smacking
- 1:21:25somebody in some capacity, it it can end up meaning a lot of
- 1:21:32different things. But yeah, and then.
- 1:21:34Weapon is a keyword because some abilities use weapons and some
- 1:21:39abilities don't use weapons. And you that may or may not.
- 1:21:42Again, none of these have rules in and of themselves, but you
- 1:21:45might need to reference them. And then you have the activity
- 1:21:51typing of the thing, which is like main action, maneuver or
- 1:21:55move action or triggered action. We'll get to what those mean
- 1:21:59later, but yeah. And then the trigger of a thing
- 1:22:05or or if something has the keyword trigger, it means that
- 1:22:09it requires A triggered action or a free triggered action to
- 1:22:12use it. And what the trigger is will be
- 1:22:14in the ability. You can't use it whenever.
- 1:22:16So for example, the talents again ability is a trigger
- 1:22:19ability and the trigger is whenever some whenever somebody
- 1:22:23rolls a a test then you can use again.
- 1:22:30Some. Other stuff, I mean, there's.
- 1:22:32Obviously distance is relevant in this game, so there's.
- 1:22:34Distance. There's distance numbers on all
- 1:22:37of your different abilities. Unless you don't need to know
- 1:22:41the distance, yeah. And then you have area of effect
- 1:22:48abilities. So for area of effect you.
- 1:22:50Have auras, burst cube line and wall aura is.
- 1:23:01Or no, sorry. Yes.
- 1:23:03No. No, that was brain aura.
- 1:23:06Is something that emanates out from your character and can move
- 1:23:09around with you. It's an aura.
- 1:23:12Burst is something that explodes out from your character, so if
- 1:23:15it says like burst one, then it means everyone square around
- 1:23:19your character. A reminder that this game
- 1:23:22explicitly uses squares for everything.
- 1:23:24Cube is what you're kind of used to in for a lot of area effects
- 1:23:28in D&D where you pick the box of Doom somewhere on the map and
- 1:23:32then it's the cube is however many squares on a side line is a
- 1:23:39line and wall is like a line, except you can, you know, make
- 1:23:44it go horizontal or at an angle or whatever.
- 1:23:47You know one thing that's important about noting with
- 1:23:50lines? In this game.
- 1:23:52Is you can make them like curve, so you can make there's a so
- 1:24:01this this game has diagrams for the way the different AOE
- 1:24:03abilities work. So if you're reading it
- 1:24:05yourself, you can look at the diagram.
- 1:24:07This is going to be a little tricky for me to explain without
- 1:24:09the diagram, but essentially the line could be straight or it can
- 1:24:13be in an angle, but you can also go like over 1 down to over
- 1:24:18another one down another one. You can kind of like wiggle it,
- 1:24:22yes. So the line does not have to be
- 1:24:23a straight line. So it doesn't have to be
- 1:24:25totally. Straight, but it can't curve
- 1:24:28back in on itself. Bend back on itself.
- 1:24:31So. It has to be going a little bit
- 1:24:35to the left or a little bit to the right is the easiest way to
- 1:24:38put it. Basically you can.
- 1:24:41You can have a a line that's. Going northward, right, If you
- 1:24:44think about this on a, on a, a, a compass and you can make it
- 1:24:48kind of shoot out towards the 1:00 or the 11:00, but you can't
- 1:24:54make it curved to 3:00 or 9:00. Well, yeah.
- 1:24:59So like you could say you could have it shoot in like a
- 1:25:02northeastern. Direction.
- 1:25:03If you think about it as a compass, but once it starts
- 1:25:06going east, it can't go back towards N, it has to essentially
- 1:25:09keep moving eastward, right? Again, it it's hard to explain
- 1:25:15if you look at. The diagram it makes more sense,
- 1:25:16but. Yeah.
- 1:25:17So the the important thing that's worth noting is that the
- 1:25:20lines can be manipulated so they don't have to be straight.
- 1:25:24So it gives you some extra tactical advantage on how to use
- 1:25:27them. Walls also don't need to be
- 1:25:31straight. You can sort of manipulate them
- 1:25:34into like an L shape or like a Tetris zigzaggy shape as long as
- 1:25:39the size are touching some other.
- 1:25:44Keywords, stuff you have. Obviously abilities are going
- 1:25:47to. Have a target name or a target
- 1:25:50type. So creature or object are two
- 1:25:54that could come up. Those are very self-explanatory.
- 1:25:56I don't think I need to explain what creatures or objects means.
- 1:25:59Some abilities will specify enemy and ally.
- 1:26:03Ultimately an enemy and ally is just the person who's casting
- 1:26:08it. Do they consider the person an
- 1:26:10enemy or an ally is mostly what that comes down to.
- 1:26:16There might be a situation where the director has final say and.
- 1:26:19Those like know that. Character's actually your enemy,
- 1:26:21not your ally, but obviously those are going to be more edge
- 1:26:25narrative cases where that might happen and then target self it
- 1:26:31targets. Yourself.
- 1:26:35And then we. Get a description on how the
- 1:26:38ability. Rules work, so I don't think I
- 1:26:42went over these and if I did, I'm going to do it.
- 1:26:44Again anyway, just to. Make it clear.
- 1:26:48So the main core mechanic of this game is.
- 1:26:51The ability, role, or. The power role.
- 1:26:56So a power role is 2D10. Plus a stat.
- 1:27:01And every ability is broken up into tiers.
- 1:27:07So you have Tier 1, Tier 2, and tier 3.
- 1:27:10And I know we said this first time around, you cannot miss in
- 1:27:15this game. So getting Tier 1 doesn't mean
- 1:27:18the ability misses, it just means it does the least
- 1:27:21effective damage and the least effective effect.
- 1:27:25So Tier 1 is if you roll an 11 or lower, Tier 2 is between 12
- 1:27:32and 16, and then tier 3 is 17 or higher.
- 1:27:36Now you do add a stat when you roll, so it's.
- 1:27:39Not just two D 10. Flat it'll be two D10 plus or
- 1:27:42minus your stat which is in this game characteristics.
- 1:27:47So if you have mite 2 for example.
- 1:27:49And you roll an ability with your.
- 1:27:50Mite you would be rolling 2 D 10 + 2 and as we said last time,
- 1:27:56because of the the way the math works out and dice curves and
- 1:27:59all this shit, +2 is a much bigger deal than it initially
- 1:28:03sounds like so. What this ends up?
- 1:28:11Meaning is like. At lower levels, obviously, you
- 1:28:13know. You're going to expect, you
- 1:28:15know, you'll probably get tier ones and twos a little more
- 1:28:17often and at higher levels you're going to bank around the
- 1:28:20Tier 2 and 3 range as long as you're rolling abilities with
- 1:28:23your best characteristic and not rolling with negative so on and
- 1:28:26so forth. Yeah, this is it's kind of a.
- 1:28:31Modified. Version of the Apocalypse World
- 1:28:34style. Success, partial success.
- 1:28:38Yeah, full success, partial success, failure system.
- 1:28:41It's sort of a heroic fantasy version of that idea, and it's
- 1:28:52probably going to look a little complicated.
- 1:28:55For a lot of people. At first, but I promise will
- 1:29:00take you. I don't know.
- 1:29:02Maybe 2 sessions at? Most to figure it out if you're
- 1:29:06paying any attention right fair to say yeah about yeah because
- 1:29:13if you've done. Like relative.
- 1:29:15Enough familiarity with playing games especially.
- 1:29:17With running games, it's going to be easier for you.
- 1:29:18But if you, if you are, if this is you are second, first game,
- 1:29:23then yeah, you're going to, you're going to start first,
- 1:29:26first, second game, first, second.
- 1:29:27There you go. Yeah.
- 1:29:31And ultimately it's. 11 or less, 12 to 1617 and up, that never
- 1:29:36changes. So once you remember that little
- 1:29:38chart, quote UN quote at you're good.
- 1:29:42As someone who played a lot of Apocalypse World, obviously,
- 1:29:45yeah, it doesn't take long to remember something like that.
- 1:29:49The thing that will get a little weird is when you have abilities
- 1:29:52that say for example, power roll plus your might, and then if you
- 1:29:57get a 12 to 16, it says 6. So the way it's denoted on the
- 1:30:01abilities, it'll say 6 + m So you will have to remember what
- 1:30:05the letters of all the characteristics are.
- 1:30:07That might take some time, 6 + M damage.
- 1:30:10So if you have two might, it'd be 8 damage, 6 + 2, and then it
- 1:30:14says push 2. So you'll have to remember what
- 1:30:18the letters mean and then you'll have to remember what it means
- 1:30:21when it says push. Now for push, that's not too
- 1:30:24hard. Like, OK, I push him two
- 1:30:26squares. That makes sense.
- 1:30:28For some of them it'll be a little weird.
- 1:30:29Like shift, for example. Shift is also forced movement.
- 1:30:34It just means it can be forced movement in any direction.
- 1:30:37So if something says shift two, you can move them left one and
- 1:30:41then down one, or you can move them up one and then right one.
- 1:30:45So there's a, there's some keyword stuff you'll have to
- 1:30:50keep in mind. And then there's the potency
- 1:30:53thing, which I. Talked about last.
- 1:30:56Time, but effectively you take a stat and then you have it'll be
- 1:31:01the stat less than and then it'll say weak, strong or
- 1:31:08average. So if your potency.
- 1:31:13On your ability is. Weak.
- 1:31:14It's the stat -2. If the potency is average, it's
- 1:31:17the stat -1. If this potency is strong, it's
- 1:31:20just equal to the stat. And what those are for are for
- 1:31:24certain abilities, it will say if the creature has, if their
- 1:31:30intuition is less than your strong potency, then it would
- 1:31:40be, you know, whatever your potency stat would be.
- 1:31:43So if you're a sensor, it'd be presence.
- 1:31:45So if their intuition is less than your presence, they are
- 1:31:49affected. And if your presence is 2, that
- 1:31:51means if it's less than two, they get affected by the
- 1:31:53additional effect of the ability.
- 1:31:55Again, that one's going to be a little weird the first couple of
- 1:31:58times, but once you use it a few times, it would make sense.
- 1:32:03It just, it's got a lot of like notation to it.
- 1:32:09But as somebody who was literally just listening to
- 1:32:13people play it, I was like oh OK I see how this works.
- 1:32:17Basically they didn't want to have saving throws in the game,
- 1:32:19so this is your saving throw equivalent thingy.
- 1:32:35Potencies can. Also.
- 1:32:40Be sorry. Like reading and thinking.
- 1:32:44Potencies can be manipulated and adjusted and stuff, for example,
- 1:32:49for example, like the sensors null field.
- 1:32:52So that's another thing you'll have to kind of keep in the back
- 1:32:55of your head depending on the situation, and then the game
- 1:33:03talks a little bit. About critical hits.
- 1:33:07So critical hits in this game are kind of crazy.
- 1:33:11If you roll. A-19 or A20 then you get a
- 1:33:14critical hit and a critical it gives you an entire additional
- 1:33:18action. So you know, you can action
- 1:33:22surge basically not quite as strong as action surge, but
- 1:33:26close which? Can.
- 1:33:31Be, you know, pretty sick depending on the situation.
- 1:33:37Yeah. I mean, it's it's.
- 1:33:39It's strong. Yeah, a little nutty, I will.
- 1:33:45I will point. Out 'cause some people might be
- 1:33:47curious. Why a 19 and 20?
- 1:33:50Because if Because it's 2D10. If it was only A20A crit would
- 1:33:55be a 1% chance. Yes, even with the 19 a crit is
- 1:34:01only. A 3% chance.
- 1:34:02In this game which is 2 less D and DA crit is a 5% chance so it
- 1:34:09is 2 less percentage. So you know, but considering
- 1:34:15that the reward. Is quite a bit bigger.
- 1:34:18Kind of makes sense. You know if the reward.
- 1:34:23Was just a little. Extra damage that would be
- 1:34:25annoying that it was. Also a lower percentage.
- 1:34:30And then lastly. Or not?
- 1:34:31Why or not? Lastly.
- 1:34:34Then after that it talks about surges, which we've mentioned
- 1:34:36before, but effectively surges are a little bonus that you can
- 1:34:40get temporarily that you can spend to either bump your damage
- 1:34:44or bump the potency of something.
- 1:34:46They're like a little temporary buff thing that you get in a
- 1:34:49battle. Oh, it also mentions rolling
- 1:34:53against multiple. Creatures if you're rolling.
- 1:34:56Against multiple things, you just roll once.
- 1:34:58You don't roll for every creature.
- 1:35:05Then it mentions. There's some noodly bits.
- 1:35:07About like actions within. Actions and stuff.
- 1:35:12It's too related to bother right now to be honest.
- 1:35:17One thing that is worth pointing out though.
- 1:35:20Stacking unique effects. You can stack different effects,
- 1:35:24but you cannot stack same effects.
- 1:35:25Similar to how DND rules that if it's two different effects that
- 1:35:31do a similar. Thing you.
- 1:35:33Take the highest version of the things of the Knoll field.
- 1:35:37Reduces your potency by 1, and then another Knoll comes up and
- 1:35:40reduces your potency by two. Your potency goes down by by 2,
- 1:35:44not 3. Some abilities have.
- 1:35:50The save. Save ends thing which is where
- 1:35:53you roll flat. What is it, D10 or AD 6?
- 1:35:57No D10? Yeah.
- 1:35:59You roll a flat D10 to see if an effect ends on you.
- 1:36:03There's also end of turn, end of next turn effects, which gets
- 1:36:06abbreviated to EOT. That was definitely an acronym I
- 1:36:10forgot when I was looking at some roofs.
- 1:36:17I just forgot what EOT meant. I had to.
- 1:36:18Go back. No, I.
- 1:36:19Did too, no. I was Yotic, the one that.
- 1:36:23Confused me for a while was line of effect and like I had to go.
- 1:36:27I don't know why, because it it's just Los, right?
- 1:36:30It's just line of sight. Yeah.
- 1:36:32Every time they said line of effect, my brain was like, no
- 1:36:36way. Is that no, it's not right.
- 1:36:39No, yes, no, no, yes, no. Yeah.
- 1:36:43Effectively, yeah, they say. Line of effect.
- 1:36:45Because sight quote UN quote can be like.
- 1:36:49Dubious sometimes, but. You could still have line of
- 1:36:52effect depending on the situation, even if you can't
- 1:36:55quote UN quote see the target, you know what I mean?
- 1:36:57But the game basically treats it like if you can draw a line to
- 1:37:00the character, yeah. And you're good.
- 1:37:04So for example if. If.
- 1:37:06Like there's an area obscured by.
- 1:37:07Fog as. Long as you can still draw that
- 1:37:09line to them, you can still affect them.
- 1:37:11Yes. Yeah.
- 1:37:15Then it talks a little bit about straight lines and movement, how
- 1:37:20the movement works in the game. Not worth it.
- 1:37:26There's also. A little chunk.
- 1:37:27Specifying the difference between ground and ceiling,
- 1:37:31which I thought was odd, but I was like, OK, sure.
- 1:37:37And then then we get into some conditions.
- 1:37:40So the game does have a decent number of conditions.
- 1:37:43You have bleeding, dazed, frightened, grabbed, prone,
- 1:37:47restrained, slowed, taunted, taunted, taunted, taunted, and
- 1:37:52weakened. Bleeding effectively.
- 1:37:56You take damage every time you do an action.
- 1:38:01Dazed is you can only do one thing on your turn, main
- 1:38:05maneuver or move action. You can't do all three.
- 1:38:07It's kind of like the slow spell in DND Frightened.
- 1:38:12You take banes if your fear is near you.
- 1:38:14Also you can't move closer. Grabbed.
- 1:38:20Grabbed is mostly the same as DND grabbed.
- 1:38:24I don't remember I I don't think there there was anything.
- 1:38:26Weird or different about it from what?
- 1:38:30I remember. Yeah, no, yeah, it's.
- 1:38:34It's DND you, just you. Yeah, you can try.
- 1:38:38And you can spend a maneuver. To try and get out of it or no
- 1:38:42you can spend your action to get no grab creature can attempt to
- 1:38:47escape being Oh yeah, I was right maneuver yeah you can
- 1:38:49spend a maneuver to get out of it.
- 1:38:53There is some rules on like sizing and stuff in this game
- 1:38:56that's a little more. There's a little more to than
- 1:38:59DND, but other than that DND prone.
- 1:39:03Prone does as you would think. Restrained you have 0 speed.
- 1:39:08You cannot stand up you. Can't be forced moved.
- 1:39:11You take a bane on things, you're having a bad time?
- 1:39:15Slowed. Your speed is reduced by two
- 1:39:17taunted. If you are taunted, you have a
- 1:39:21double bane on ability rolls for any ability that doesn't target
- 1:39:24the creature who taunted you and then weakened.
- 1:39:29Which is you take a bane on all power.
- 1:39:31Rolls. Those are your.
- 1:39:35Those are your conditions. I got to ask.
- 1:39:37All right. Awesome the.
- 1:39:38Bleeding. The bleeding condition.
- 1:39:42I feel like a lot of games try to replicate a.
- 1:39:44Bleedy condition of some way. Shape or form and I don't know
- 1:39:49if I'm ever in love with any of them.
- 1:39:51And like it usually it takes one of two forms.
- 1:39:53It's the like you know, it's it's the A dot or it's the it's
- 1:40:00a build to big damage. So you have like the Final
- 1:40:02Fantasy version of bleeding or poison, and then you have like
- 1:40:04the Dark Souls version. And I just, yeah, I don't feel
- 1:40:07like any. Any time I've ever seen it done
- 1:40:10in a game or a home brewed or even suggested, I've just been
- 1:40:13like, it's OK. I mean, I don't know how else
- 1:40:17you would do it to be honest. Well, there's like my new show.
- 1:40:20And like how you can get rid of it, how much damage it does?
- 1:40:23I don't know, I just don't feel like I love any of them like
- 1:40:28this one. Works.
- 1:40:29You know you take. Damage equal to 1D6.
- 1:40:31Plus their levels so. You can be a lot or a little bit
- 1:40:34depends. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:40:37I I just don't ever feel like because it has, I think it has
- 1:40:41the the the capability of being a really interesting status
- 1:40:44effect, but I don't think any games ever like hit the sweet
- 1:40:48spot. I'll be honest, I'm not really
- 1:40:51sure what you're looking for. I don't really either, I just.
- 1:40:54Like so like a good example like taunted I think.
- 1:40:57Taunted is a really good status affliction that like, feels fun.
- 1:41:01It feels interesting because it's the persona and rage.
- 1:41:05I just don't feel like I've ever had that.
- 1:41:06Like, Oh yeah, that's actually pretty cool.
- 1:41:08When it comes to bleeding, yes. Yeah, I don't.
- 1:41:15Yeah. I've never.
- 1:41:18I'm fine with it just being like gradual damage.
- 1:41:23Yeah, that's fine. I don't need.
- 1:41:26I don't know. I don't.
- 1:41:27Feel that I. Don't feel like I need any more
- 1:41:29my new. Shadow of a bleeding condition
- 1:41:31personally. I mean, maybe if I saw an.
- 1:41:36Example of that I thought was cooler but.
- 1:41:38Well, actually, you know what? I just shot myself in the foot
- 1:41:41because I think there is an interesting version of this.
- 1:41:42It's a it's slightly more interesting is a burn in Lancer
- 1:41:47because it's a damage over time, but it's a damage over time that
- 1:41:50stacks. So unless you like take an
- 1:41:52action to like actively stop burn, it just keeps happening.
- 1:41:56So for example, if you take one burn next turn, you will also
- 1:41:59take one burn. If you get hit next turn with
- 1:42:01another one burn, that becomes 2 burn and that will become four
- 1:42:05burn. Like it actually feels like it's
- 1:42:08something that you know, like you're bleeding out, you're
- 1:42:10running out of time. I mean, it is worth pointing out
- 1:42:13that one of the main ways that bleeding.
- 1:42:15Interacts in this game is when you're at zero hit points, right
- 1:42:19that actually I did forget about that.
- 1:42:20So that is an extra tier of things that does make.
- 1:42:22It more interesting. Fair enough.
- 1:42:24Yeah, 'cause when you're at zero, you can still do actions,
- 1:42:27but you start bleeding. Right, right.
- 1:42:34So now. We're gonna so.
- 1:42:36Like I said, we're doing it slightly.
- 1:42:38Weird order. So that was some rule stuff
- 1:42:39we're jumping past the classes back-to-back around to kits.
- 1:42:46Not too much to say about. Kits that we haven't already
- 1:42:48said essentially you. Pick a kit.
- 1:42:52It gives you a description of the kinds of equipment that the
- 1:42:56kit has. So for example, the cloak and
- 1:42:59dagger kit says you wear light armor and wield one or two light
- 1:43:02weapons, and then the kit you choose gives you a list of
- 1:43:09mechanical effects. So for the cloak and dagger kit
- 1:43:11you get plus 3 stamina per echelon of play.
- 1:43:16You get a + 2 speed bonus, your melee damage bonus is +1 at
- 1:43:21every tier, and then your range damage bonus is also plus one at
- 1:43:25every tier. Your range distance bonus is 5 +
- 1:43:295, and your disengage bonus is +1.
- 1:43:33So when you take the disengaged maneuver, you can move two
- 1:43:35squares as opposed to 1 square. And then you get a signature
- 1:43:39ability from your kit, which in the case of cloak and dagger is
- 1:43:43Fade. It's a melee or a range strike
- 1:43:46with a weapon. It's a main action.
- 1:43:49You roll, yeah, you power roll with your might or your agility.
- 1:43:55And then after you do. So you can shift yourself 1-2 or
- 1:44:00three squares depending on what tier of success you got on the
- 1:44:03roll. And yeah, they basically all
- 1:44:07work like that. This is your replacement for
- 1:44:12gear in this game. You take a kit and you can
- 1:44:16change out your kits on a respite and pretty much all the
- 1:44:23kits that I would personally want are.
- 1:44:25Present. There is one kit called Ranger
- 1:44:29which I. Feel like.
- 1:44:31There's a little bit of kick in the ass because a little bit,
- 1:44:33yeah, there's a Ranger kit and not a Ranger class.
- 1:44:36I don't know. I've I've.
- 1:44:37A little bothered by that. Yeah, and it it to my end.
- 1:44:40Yeah, I think they're they pretty much cover everything.
- 1:44:41I want Warrior. Priests, sword and boards, Spell
- 1:44:44swords, Swashbucklers, sniper. Do you like that the the no
- 1:44:49armor big weapon one is called Panther?
- 1:44:51Panther Yeah, it's good. I I really appreciate.
- 1:44:55Retiarius Yeah, yeah, you see, you're yeah, you're a.
- 1:45:00Gladiator with a MIT, yes. Yeah, it's a funny one.
- 1:45:04Hell yeah. I also like that stick.
- 1:45:06And robe is an option because. I love the idea.
- 1:45:09Of playing a stick and robe sensor so you're you're not like
- 1:45:13armor kitted out with a Mace or anything you're just a dude with
- 1:45:15a stick. But once you unleash that stick
- 1:45:17on people, you fuck them up. It's a shalal.
- 1:45:21Yeah, basically. I look, I, I'm.
- 1:45:23I I'm there with you. I love.
- 1:45:24The idea of just take it out, somebody's kneecaps with a
- 1:45:26shalali. Yeah, you could probably play a
- 1:45:29pretty fun like. Mafiazo sensor.
- 1:45:35Yeah, you just like put your arm.
- 1:45:37At someone's shoulders. Like look.
- 1:45:39You owe the local Lord of favor, and if you.
- 1:45:40Don't pay up with the grain. You're going to get broken
- 1:45:42knees. You want broken knees?
- 1:45:43You don't. Yeah, I mean, if you're looking.
- 1:45:51For. Gear porn type.
- 1:45:54Game. This is not your game.
- 1:45:56No, it's not and I but I do like I mean, I know we.
- 1:46:00Know both of us normally say we like.
- 1:46:02Having, you know, an interesting gear section in our games, which
- 1:46:05is true, but I do like this kit system.
- 1:46:07I think it's a cool alternative. What?
- 1:46:09So this is what I got to say about it.
- 1:46:13I love gear. Ladies and gentlemen, I love
- 1:46:16gear. But what I don't like is when.
- 1:46:22Equipment and gear. Feel useless, right?
- 1:46:25Which is a lot of D&D gear it doesn't like I I make a
- 1:46:30concerted effort. You can ask Josh about this to
- 1:46:33make shit relevant. Like my 10 LB sack of flour,
- 1:46:35thank you very much Yep. And if you.
- 1:46:41Understand that your. That the.
- 1:46:43Gear that you were trying to make?
- 1:46:45Is not to the effect that you want rather than just scrapping
- 1:46:50it, which is an option, right. If you're just like there's no
- 1:46:53point, then yeah, you can just scrap it like never knows.
- 1:46:56Best doesn't have any gear or equipment of any kind, neither
- 1:46:58does monster hearts. This is the way that you do it.
- 1:47:03You either have gear and make it effective and useful and fun.
- 1:47:07You don't have gear and don't worry about it and don't even
- 1:47:10just put it out of your mind. This is the healthy alternative
- 1:47:15because every kit. Will feel useful or the.
- 1:47:21Thing that you want. It to do.
- 1:47:23Which effectively means that there is no bad option.
- 1:47:28They're all good options, it just depends on what you want
- 1:47:31from the. Character.
- 1:47:33Yeah, they all have a particular.
- 1:47:34They all have like a cool effect and shit.
- 1:47:38They also, I think it's, I think another.
- 1:47:40Thing that helps with the kits a lot is that each of.
- 1:47:42Them getting that signature ability, so it's like not only
- 1:47:46do you have the passive bonuses, you have the signature ability
- 1:47:51to kind of reinforce how you use that kit, like how you use that
- 1:47:54weapon. They also have good evocative.
- 1:47:59Names. They do.
- 1:48:00Yeah. I just.
- 1:48:00I'm kind of laughing. Myself, I kind of pulled an
- 1:48:02Obama on that one. Mindful Americans.
- 1:48:05I love gear. I love gear.
- 1:48:08You did a little. Bit after, after.
- 1:48:11Kits and. Then we have perks.
- 1:48:16Do I need to say anything about perks their?
- 1:48:18Feats. No, their feats I I mean, I
- 1:48:19don't. Their feats the the name is a
- 1:48:21little misleading, but. It's fine.
- 1:48:26Well, like it. Just feats.
- 1:48:28Are like I think I think. Feats are a good name for.
- 1:48:31The ability in D and. D because you are pulling off a
- 1:48:35feat, right? Like the whole thing with with
- 1:48:37sharpshooter is sharpshooting is a feat.
- 1:48:40It is like a thing of high skill that you're managing to pull off
- 1:48:44for being an actor or like being a linguist.
- 1:48:47These are like extraordinary things, perks or just I, I just
- 1:48:51think of like Call of Duty, which effectively that is what
- 1:48:53perks and Call of Duty are just it's just not the right, it's
- 1:48:56not the right vibe. It's not what I want.
- 1:48:59Well, I will say the thing that's kind of funny is I think
- 1:49:01perks. I think the name perks makes
- 1:49:05sense in terms in. Game design.
- 1:49:07Language, like it is a perk that your character is acquiring, but
- 1:49:11if you're thinking about it in the natural language of what
- 1:49:13your character is doing, then yes, perk feels weird.
- 1:49:16Yeah, yeah, I think the one, the one.
- 1:49:20Little thing that's a little different.
- 1:49:21With this game versus your standard 5E feats is that this
- 1:49:24game breaks them up into categories.
- 1:49:27So you have crafting perks, exploration perks, interpersonal
- 1:49:30perks, intrigue perks, lore perks, and supernatural perks.
- 1:49:36So from your like. Class.
- 1:49:39And your career and I think your ancestry can give you some perks
- 1:49:44depending. Although I don't remember the
- 1:49:46top I had. It will say that you can take
- 1:49:49perks from a specific category. So picking class at random here
- 1:49:56I look at the shadow. Oh, that one says perk your
- 1:50:00choice. I oh, maybe are are all the
- 1:50:02class ones. The classes might all say of
- 1:50:04your choice. It might just be your careers
- 1:50:06that are of a specific category. Oh, no, OK, no some.
- 1:50:10OK, so like at level. 6 The sensor has perk.
- 1:50:13You gain 1 interpersonal lore or supernatural perk of your
- 1:50:17choice. So basically when you acquire
- 1:50:19them, it will sometimes say you can only get from this category,
- 1:50:23which is, you know, I think a good way to do it because it
- 1:50:29makes them a little easier to balance.
- 1:50:31Make sure you can manage what falls under like what can be
- 1:50:35used for what thing, what you know, categorizing is often
- 1:50:38helpful. I did just have a thought too by
- 1:50:42the way, I I. Meant to mention this when we
- 1:50:44finished. Talking about the classes, you
- 1:50:47may have noticed we went through all that talk about classes and
- 1:50:50we didn't say anything about multi classing.
- 1:50:53That's because there is no multi classing.
- 1:50:56No multi classing. Allowed.
- 1:50:58You cannot do it. This is not there.
- 1:51:03And listen, here's the thing. Some.
- 1:51:05People might be a little. Sad about the lack.
- 1:51:08Of multi classic. And I get that.
- 1:51:12And if ultimately in the video that Matt Colville just put put
- 1:51:17out, he actually addressed this and he was basically like,
- 1:51:20listen, when we were designing abilities for 5 E for the beast
- 1:51:25heart and the talent and the ill rigor, we had to nerf abilities
- 1:51:31because we would try to design the class to make the coolest
- 1:51:34version of the class that we possibly could.
- 1:51:37And then one of our play testers would say that ability is really
- 1:51:40cool, But if you multiclass that ability with this class's
- 1:51:44ability, it becomes really fuck busted overpowered.
- 1:51:47And so you're going to have to change it to make it not as
- 1:51:49good. And so in order to make each
- 1:51:53class as cool as they want them to be, they did not put multi
- 1:51:57classing in the game so that they did not have to cross
- 1:52:00balance the classes essentially. And so each each ability that
- 1:52:05the class has is the is in their opinion of course the best
- 1:52:11version that that ability could possibly be.
- 1:52:14And they don't need to worry about toning it down or
- 1:52:17adjusting it because if you combo it was something else.
- 1:52:20It becomes ridiculous and I understand people.
- 1:52:25Being potentially annoyed. About that.
- 1:52:26But in my personal opinion, that is a very reasonable reason to
- 1:52:30not have multiclassing. Yeah, that was a disappointed
- 1:52:40yeah. Yeah, I mean, it is a little
- 1:52:43disappointed because. I think there is potential for.
- 1:52:45Multiclassing to be a thing in the game, but I also understand
- 1:52:48and respect the idea that it's yes, that the designers went,
- 1:52:51it's just simpler. If we don't like, I really can't
- 1:52:54fault them for that. Yeah.
- 1:52:56I mean, here's here's the. I will say I do think there's
- 1:53:00potential. In this game to make kind of
- 1:53:03little mini pseudo multiclassing either through perks or through
- 1:53:08kits. Like I, I think there's space in
- 1:53:10this game to make like kind of a a little pseudo multiclassing
- 1:53:15subsystem thing. I don't know if they're going
- 1:53:17to, but I do remember a, a while ago, Matt Colville talking about
- 1:53:23when they first started designing the kits and he was
- 1:53:26kind of like, oh, kits could be a way that we kind of have
- 1:53:30multiclassing in our game without having full on
- 1:53:32multiclassing. And I, I see what he means.
- 1:53:35So there's a there's a potential there for them to like add on
- 1:53:39top of it in the. Future.
- 1:53:44And you? Know ultimately he's talking
- 1:53:46about it, which means. He's aware that it's a thing
- 1:53:49people want, so at the very least he's acknowledging it.
- 1:53:56Yes, that is good. Yeah.
- 1:53:58So. That I'm sure they're thinking.
- 1:53:59About it. I would be.
- 1:54:01I'd be very. Surprised if they.
- 1:54:02Weren't you know what I mean? They better be thinking.
- 1:54:07About my fucking Ranger though. I that would be nice, Yeah.
- 1:54:11I want to say I want. A Ranger class It's.
- 1:54:14Not going to be called a Ranger. It'll probably be the Beast
- 1:54:16Heart. Honestly, they'll probably
- 1:54:17remake the Beast heart. Which I'm fine with, by the way.
- 1:54:21Very, very down for that. Yes, I'd like that as well
- 1:54:26after. Perks then we have.
- 1:54:28Complications. So complications.
- 1:54:30Are an optional rule that effectively you can take a
- 1:54:36downside for an additional upside is sort of an easy way to
- 1:54:42look at it. Basically, at character
- 1:54:46creation, you can choose to take a complication.
- 1:54:49You can either roll on the big table, it's AD 100 table,
- 1:54:52there's 100 complications, or you can, you know, pick one and
- 1:54:59it gives you a little upside that's kind of like a perk, but
- 1:55:02it also gives you a drawback. So for example, if you take the
- 1:55:04amnesia complication, the benefit is you have a
- 1:55:08supernatural possession, a first echelon trinket of your choice
- 1:55:12that might have some connection to your former life.
- 1:55:14So essentially you start with like a low level magic item
- 1:55:17drawback. You take a bane on any test made
- 1:55:20to recall lore cause your your memory no works so good.
- 1:55:28There's some fun ones there's like Animal.
- 1:55:31Anti. Hero.
- 1:55:32There's animal. Form which is literally you.
- 1:55:35You're like a patronus person in fucking Harry Potter where you
- 1:55:39can like turn into a little animal, but also the director
- 1:55:41can spend malice to force you to turn into an animal when you
- 1:55:44don't want to. There's ones where you're like
- 1:55:48a, a vampire vampire scion. So like you were bitten by a
- 1:55:52vampire and you serve a vampire. You are not yourself fully a
- 1:55:56vampire. You know, there's there's a
- 1:56:00hundred of them. So there's a cursed weapon?
- 1:56:03There's a rival 1. Like there's all sorts of
- 1:56:05different interesting complications.
- 1:56:07They're technically optional, but they're really fucking sick.
- 1:56:09So I find myself being like, why would I not take these?
- 1:56:14I. Don't know about you.
- 1:56:15But no, yeah, I'm pretty much in the same one.
- 1:56:18Like these are cool, why would I say to it?
- 1:56:20Yeah. But wrongfully imprisoned?
- 1:56:23That's a funny one. And then we.
- 1:56:28Get after. The complications.
- 1:56:32Then we get into the meat and potatoes mechanics stuff.
- 1:56:38Guess it's going to have to be next time.
- 1:56:42I knew it. I knew.
- 1:56:44We weren't finished. I I knew.
- 1:56:45It. I wasn't sure how much I would
- 1:56:47Babble about the classes, but the classes are the most
- 1:56:49exciting bit, so it's fair. I like.
- 1:56:52Once again, I purposely was like, all right, I'm going to
- 1:56:54keep my color commentary to a. Minimum so we can get as far as
- 1:56:56we can. And I knew it.
- 1:56:58All right, so next. Week we'll get into the sort of.
- 1:57:04Main core. Mechanic stuff, tests, combat
- 1:57:09negotiation, downtime, projects, rewards.
- 1:57:14I will say the combat section actually probably be kind of
- 1:57:16quick because a lot of it you will be familiar with if you've
- 1:57:20played five, despite it being a very large chapter.
- 1:57:23It's it's just. It is familiar in a lot of ways.
- 1:57:27Yeah, it does have some cool. Differences, but the sort of the
- 1:57:30the skeleton, the core found 8, the scaffolding is very 5 E,
- 1:57:36yes. So yeah, that's been us, like I
- 1:57:44said, if you are so inclined to perhaps.
- 1:57:47Throw a little. Money at our our good friend
- 1:57:50editor Brett. You may do so in the
- 1:57:54description. Click the coffee.
- 1:57:55Link. Porvor And if you want, you can
- 1:57:59follow us on the social medias which are also in the
- 1:58:01description, but I kind of don't care that much about those.
- 1:58:04So no, if nothing else, please keep commenting even if you're
- 1:58:08mad at me, because I. Think it's the funniest shit on
- 1:58:10the planet? Please.
- 1:58:11I Yes. Well, nothing to be mad at
- 1:58:16about. This time so I.
- 1:58:18Mean yes I I didn't have a spicy hot.
- 1:58:22Take a spicy hot take that was front.
- 1:58:24Loaded with the fact that I wasn't using the full.
- 1:58:26Information. It was just the smell test.
- 1:58:28Yeah. Oh.
- 1:58:31Why have you changed some of your opinion on that?
- 1:58:33No, not at all. Because I still haven't read
- 1:58:35that part yet. Well, that part.
- 1:58:37'S in the other book exactly so you know, so they talk about it
- 1:58:44a. Little bit in the.
- 1:58:45Encounter section. I'm aware they do in this book,
- 1:58:47but I still haven't. Gotten to that part in the book
- 1:58:49so opinion has not changed. Feel please feel free to keep
- 1:58:53yelling at me in the comments. Feel feel free to keep yelling
- 1:58:56at them, seeing them roll. In in Real Time was pretty good,
- 1:59:00but it's kind of funny. All right, fine.
- 1:59:03Fuck. I don't know.
- 1:59:03Do whatever you want. I don't care.
- 1:59:04Yeah. Do whatever you want, that's
- 1:59:06what. I'm saying anyway, bye bye,
- 1:59:08we're done here, all right? Peace my bucket.
