Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:31Speaker 1: a little thing we'd like to call the after Party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:37Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig
- 0:41Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this bonus episode, we are talking
- 0:44Speaker 1: about allegations that have been made against Bill Murray, also
- 0:48Speaker 1: talking about your personal stories involving Bill Murray, and well
- 0:51Speaker 1: your favorite Bill Murray movies and roles and of course
- 0:53Speaker 1: your voicemails and texts and as always a whole lot
- 0:57Speaker 1: of rosie. All right, Discos, let's get into it. So,
- 1:10Speaker 1: Bill Murray is an asshole. It pains me to say that,
- 1:14Speaker 1: but it's true. But wait, Jake, what about all the
- 1:17Speaker 1: praise you've heaped on Bill Murray over the past few days,
- 1:19Speaker 1: in the previous after Party episode and in the full
- 1:22Speaker 1: episode that we just heard, and on social media talking
- 1:25Speaker 1: to us, Well, I guess I'm praising a caricature of
- 1:29Speaker 1: Bill Murray a composite. I've subconsciously invented this composite. It's
- 1:35Speaker 1: a combination the coolest of Bill Murray's characters and the
- 1:38Speaker 1: mythical everyman's stories that we've all heard about regarding Bill
- 1:42Speaker 1: Murray over the years, and that some of you have
- 1:44Speaker 1: even experienced that we're going to hear later in the show.
- 1:47Speaker 1: But what I've learned over the last week in digging
- 1:50Speaker 1: deeper into Bill Murray is that as much as I
- 1:52Speaker 1: love Private John Winger from Stripes or Steve Zisu from
- 1:56Speaker 1: A Life Aquatic or any other number of iconic Bill
- 1:58Speaker 1: Murray characters, Bill seems to be an asshole. And this
- 2:02Speaker 1: is complicated, Okay. It doesn't also mean that he's not
- 2:05Speaker 1: a great guy. Doesn't mean that he wasn't that cool
- 2:08Speaker 1: dude who served you a drink at your favorite bar,
- 2:11Speaker 1: or that let you play through on the golf course,
- 2:13Speaker 1: or help some little old lady cross the street or whatever.
- 2:17Speaker 1: But the evidence of Bill Murray's prickish behavior it's not
- 2:21Speaker 1: hard to find, and there is a lot of it.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And sure some of the allegations might be a little suspect,
- 2:27Speaker 1: but after researching this behavior myself, my gut tells me
- 2:30Speaker 1: that people like Angelica Houston, Harold Ramis and others they
- 2:34Speaker 1: have legitimate beef with Bill Murray. I woke up the
- 2:39Speaker 1: morning before recording this episode and did a quick Google
- 2:42Speaker 1: search for Bill Murray just to see if there was
- 2:44Speaker 1: anything in the news that I wasn't aware of. I
- 2:46Speaker 1: know Bill, I believe he's currently on tour with his band,
- 2:49Speaker 1: and I just wanted to, you know, I didn't want
- 2:52Speaker 1: to record this and be overlooking anything. And lo and behold,
- 2:57Speaker 1: there were three pages of returns search returns on Google
- 3:03Speaker 1: regarding the allegations made by actress Lucy Lou claiming that
- 3:06Speaker 1: Bill Murray hurled unacceptable insults at her on the set
- 3:09Speaker 1: of Charlie's Angels. No real specifics, just allegations. Lou came
- 3:14Speaker 1: out and brought this up in an interview with The
- 3:16Speaker 1: Guardian just a couple of days ago this week, which
- 3:19Speaker 1: is why it's now back in the news. But again,
- 3:22Speaker 1: no specifics, but still I'm like, hmm, okay, and I've
- 3:25Speaker 1: heard I've heard a little bit from you guys on
- 3:27Speaker 1: social as well, some comments about Bill's behavior, and I
- 3:31Speaker 1: knew there was some some loose I don't want to
- 3:34Speaker 1: say me too, that's the wrong word. But some some
- 3:38Speaker 1: some allegations from a couple of years ago, and I
- 3:40Speaker 1: remember I remember doing my own sort of quick Google
- 3:43Speaker 1: search on that and not finding anything that was particularly compelling.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I'm using that word carefully. So anyways, I decided to
- 3:53Speaker 1: just dive in a little bit deeper see what else
- 3:55Speaker 1: was out there. It's important to note that I didn't
- 3:57Speaker 1: write this Bill Murray episode. I did not research it,
- 4:00Speaker 1: and I did not write it. I just voiced it
- 4:02Speaker 1: and I produced it. And I'm not making excuses in
- 4:04Speaker 1: any way. I only say that as a means to
- 4:06Speaker 1: illustrate that my knowledge of Bill Murray is not, say,
- 4:10Speaker 1: the same knowledge base I have of an episode that
- 4:13Speaker 1: I research myself and that I write myself, like this
- 4:16Speaker 1: upcoming Beastie Boys episode next week. But back to Bill
- 4:19Speaker 1: Murray and back to the allegations. Did I dug a
- 4:21Speaker 1: little bit deeper? And there's a lot Okay, there's a
- 4:24Speaker 1: lot of allegations against Bill Murray from co stars of
- 4:29Speaker 1: his in the past, and I want to be careful
- 4:32Speaker 1: about the word allegations here. These do not, in most
- 4:34Speaker 1: cases rise to the typical fare of horror that we
- 4:38Speaker 1: discussed with our subjects. Like I said at the top,
- 4:41Speaker 1: Bill Murray is an asshole. Okay. There's lots of people
- 4:44Speaker 1: who are assholes. Doesn't mean they're not great artists. And
- 4:47Speaker 1: we can litigate whether or not some of these allegations
- 4:49Speaker 1: are just asshole behavior or if they elevate beyond that.
- 4:54Speaker 1: The most damning of these allegations comes from actress Geena Davis,
- 4:57Speaker 1: who started in a Bill Murray movie that I'd never
- 4:59Speaker 1: seen called Quick Change from nineteen ninety. Davis claims that
- 5:03Speaker 1: Bill wouldn't take no for an answer. The incident didn't
- 5:07Speaker 1: go full Louis c K, but Bill Murray allegedly made
- 5:11Speaker 1: Geena Davis lay down in a bed while he used
- 5:13Speaker 1: a massage device on her, and Davis says, quote, I
- 5:16Speaker 1: said no multiple times, but he wouldn't relent. Geena Davis
- 5:20Speaker 1: says that, of course about Bill Murray, there are numerous
- 5:24Speaker 1: other allegations that don't rise to sexual misconduct, and Geena
- 5:28Speaker 1: Davis isn't exactly alleging sexual misconduct here. I want to
- 5:32Speaker 1: be careful. She's alleging exactly what I just read to you. Okay.
- 5:36Speaker 1: These other allegations, however, they just paint this picture of
- 5:39Speaker 1: a prick of an asshole, Like I said, a moody comedian,
- 5:41Speaker 1: perhaps often hungover, who has a hard time with authority.
- 5:45Speaker 1: And you mix that with Murray's obvious and pretty consistent
- 5:48Speaker 1: smart ass attitude that he's demonstrated throughout the years, and
- 5:52Speaker 1: you start to see what's going on. The guy's an asshole.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Solange Knowles and for those of you who don't know,
- 5:57Speaker 1: this is Beyonce's sister. Solange Noo went on SNL in
- 6:01Speaker 1: twenty sixteen and performed a song titled Don't Touch My Hair.
- 6:06Speaker 1: So what did Bill Murray do backstage? According to writer
- 6:08Speaker 1: producer Jed mayerd, he touched Solange's hair and he was
- 6:12Speaker 1: kind of a prick, constantly peppering her with questions about
- 6:15Speaker 1: her hair. And I don't need to tell you what
- 6:18Speaker 1: that means, Okay, but it doesn't mean nothing. Again. Guy
- 6:22Speaker 1: can be a prick. Rob Schneider recently detailed a nineteen
- 6:24Speaker 1: ninety three hosting stint on SNL by Bill Murray where Bill,
- 6:28Speaker 1: according to Rob, demonstrated quote unquote naked rage toward cast members.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Schneider alleges that Bill Murray hated, including himself and most
- 6:37Speaker 1: specifically including Adam Sandler and Chris Farley, who just featured
- 6:41Speaker 1: a couple of weeks ago in Disgraceland, and Murray reportedly
- 6:45Speaker 1: couldn't stand these guys. Allegedly, Bill Murray also iced out
- 6:49Speaker 1: Harold Ramis for twenty years. That comes from Harold Ramis's daughter.
- 6:54Speaker 1: And Bill Murray hurt fully shut out Angelica Houston on
- 6:56Speaker 1: the set of Life Aquatic and that comes from Angelica Houston.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Bill Murray shoved a nine year old Seth Green into
- 7:03Speaker 1: a trash can. He threw an ashtray at the head
- 7:06Speaker 1: of Richard Dreyfus on the set of What About Bob,
- 7:09Speaker 1: And according to divorce proceedings with his ex wife Jennifer Murray,
- 7:12Speaker 1: Bill hit her in the face. Now, this last allegation,
- 7:15Speaker 1: like the Geena Davis allegation, is indefensible if true, But
- 7:19Speaker 1: the other allegations paint the picture of a jerk. So
- 7:23Speaker 1: who knows where Bill Murray's line was, where Bill Murray's
- 7:27Speaker 1: line is, and what he was capable of in the
- 7:30Speaker 1: past or what he's capable of in the future. That said,
- 7:35Speaker 1: none of it changes how I feel about Bill Murray
- 7:37Speaker 1: the actor. I can hold the two thoughts in my
- 7:40Speaker 1: head at the same time. One Bill Murray maybe an asshole.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Two Bill Murray maybe one of the funniest dudes to
- 7:46Speaker 1: ever do it. But given that this is Disgraceland and
- 7:49Speaker 1: this tension between art and artists is central to what
- 7:51Speaker 1: we do here, yo, it's important that if I discover
- 7:56Speaker 1: this stuff the morning before and after party by just
- 7:58Speaker 1: doing a shallow research dive into Bill Murray, that I
- 8:03Speaker 1: need to bring you guys this. Otherwise I would be
- 8:04Speaker 1: being disingenuous. Okay, That's why I'm doing it. That's why
- 8:07Speaker 1: I'm bringing to these recently learned facts. When it comes
- 8:09Speaker 1: to being an actual good dude, Bill Murray appears to be,
- 8:12Speaker 1: as he would say, medium talent still to come. Your
- 8:16Speaker 1: story is about Bill Murray and your favorite Bill Murray
- 8:18Speaker 1: performances when we get into your voicemails and texts real
- 8:21Speaker 1: quick though. This week, we've got another legend popping up
- 8:24Speaker 1: in your feed in the rewind slot after this here
- 8:27Speaker 1: after party bonus episode, and that's a full episode on
- 8:30Speaker 1: Keith Richards and Key's Canadian busts in the seventies. Justin
- 8:34Speaker 1: Trudeau's mom, the then Prime Minister's wife in bed with
- 8:38Speaker 1: Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood and Justin's dad, Fidel Castro
- 8:41Speaker 1: Wayman alleged Dad, I should say, tell me I'm wrong
- 8:44Speaker 1: watching it all go down from the shores of Cuba.
- 8:46Speaker 1: It's the very first Rolling Stones episode, guys, that we
- 8:48Speaker 1: ever released, and it's a doozy and I hope you
- 8:50Speaker 1: revisit it with us this week in the rewind slot.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And I hope you take my tongue in cheek conspiracy
- 8:56Speaker 1: claims here with a grain of salt and all do
- 9:00Speaker 1: qualifications that said, I don't know those images, young Fidel Castro,
- 9:07Speaker 1: Young Justin Trudeau, those are compelling, all right. Of course,
- 9:10Speaker 1: next week we're hitting you, guys with our Beastie Boys episode.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And when you're listening to this episode, an episode about influence,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I want you, guys be thinking about which musician has
- 9:19Speaker 1: had the most influence on you and why. And I
- 9:21Speaker 1: don't mean musically. You don't have to be a musician
- 9:24Speaker 1: to answer this question. I heard a great quote last
- 9:27Speaker 1: week from I can't remember where I heard it from,
- 9:30Speaker 1: I was. I was talking about it last night at dinner.
- 9:32Speaker 1: This is a very simple quote about how storytelling in
- 9:35Speaker 1: general can be inspiring in different ways, and it's so
- 9:39Speaker 1: obvious that it goes without even saying we just I
- 9:42Speaker 1: take it for granted. I watch stuff all the time.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I listen to stuff all the time. I hear stories
- 9:46Speaker 1: all the time. They all influence me, they all motivate me,
- 9:48Speaker 1: they all compel me to do different things. And this
- 9:51Speaker 1: is especially true of musicians. And even though I've been
- 9:53Speaker 1: a musician or I am a musician, you know, made
- 9:56Speaker 1: my living as a musician at one point in my life.
- 9:58Speaker 1: And I talk about musicians, you know, even when I
- 10:02Speaker 1: was a kid, I was inspired deeply by certain musicians,
- 10:07Speaker 1: uh in non musical ways. So you can get at
- 10:10Speaker 1: me by answering this question either from a musical standpoint
- 10:12Speaker 1: if you if you are a musician, or from a
- 10:14Speaker 1: non musical standpoint. I just want to know, as you're
- 10:17Speaker 1: going to hear in this Beastie Boys episode that is
- 10:19Speaker 1: all about influence. I just want to know which musicians
- 10:23Speaker 1: have left their mark on you and who have most
- 10:25Speaker 1: influenced you. Let me know, and of course let me
- 10:27Speaker 1: know why. Six one seven nine oh six six six
- 10:30Speaker 1: three eight hit me up. Ask for Cookie Puss to
- 10:33Speaker 1: leave a voicemail or a text for the best in
- 10:35Speaker 1: men's clothing. That's a disgrace slam pod on the socials Instagram,
- 10:38Speaker 1: Facebook X and Disgrace lampod at gmail dot com. I'll
- 10:41Speaker 1: be back right after this with your calls, texts and dms.
- 10:44Speaker 1: On last week's question of the Week. All right, guys,
- 11:05Speaker 1: this a reminder to make sure that if you're an
- 11:07Speaker 1: Apple podcast listener, you got those auto downloads turned on
- 11:11Speaker 1: so that you're not missing any of these episodes. You're
- 11:13Speaker 1: gonna go into the app. Yeah, turn the auto downloads on.
- 11:16Speaker 1: All right, okay, let's get to you, guys. This week's
- 11:18Speaker 1: story of the Week comes from Disco Amanda Duggan or Dugan.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I'm not sure how to pronounce Amanda's last name. I
- 11:24Speaker 1: apologize for getting it half wrong at least. Anyways, Amanda
- 11:28Speaker 1: is in Little Roady and Amanda writes, Hey, Jake, Amanda
- 11:32Speaker 1: from the four to oh one here, and I just
- 11:33Speaker 1: wanted to tell you about my small run in with
- 11:35Speaker 1: Jack Black. My friends and I all went to see
- 11:39Speaker 1: Tenacious D maybe twelve years ago, and when they came
- 11:42Speaker 1: to Providence. First of all, Jack Black went onto a
- 11:44Speaker 1: talk show and had no idea where a Rhode Island
- 11:47Speaker 1: even was. That's offensive. As someone from New England, that's offensive.
- 11:51Speaker 1: You gotta know where Rhode Island is. How do you
- 11:53Speaker 1: not know where or a state is? Geez man. Amanda
- 11:57Speaker 1: is more charitable than I am. She goes on to say,
- 11:59Speaker 1: but a lot of people wouldn't know. I guess right,
- 12:01Speaker 1: she said it says. So we all took a few
- 12:03Speaker 1: cars up to Providence. I got free drinks all night
- 12:05Speaker 1: because I was wearing my kit Mitten shirt from It's
- 12:07Speaker 1: Always Sonny in Philadelphia. A great time. I caught a
- 12:10Speaker 1: guitar pick from Jack, and when the show was over,
- 12:12Speaker 1: my friends all except for my best friend who wanted
- 12:14Speaker 1: to go to a party. Well, if you know Lupo
- 12:16Speaker 1: slash Roxy in Providence, and you know that the tour
- 12:18Speaker 1: bus always parks in the back and there's really only
- 12:22Speaker 1: one way out. So we waited in the snow and
- 12:25Speaker 1: Jack Black finally came out and there weren't that many
- 12:27Speaker 1: people there. So I got a hug from Jack and
- 12:29Speaker 1: he told me he loved me after I screamed that
- 12:31Speaker 1: I loved him. What an awesome night, and my friends
- 12:35Speaker 1: who left were so mad. Thanks for reading love the
- 12:37Speaker 1: show so much, Thanks for keeping Rock alive you got it, Amanda.
- 12:41Speaker 1: You guys know the drill. You email me, you text me,
- 12:43Speaker 1: send me a voicemail with your stories of rock and roll,
- 12:45Speaker 1: animalism or otherwise, and I'm gonna pick one or read
- 12:48Speaker 1: it here every week, thus contributing to the preservation of
- 12:51Speaker 1: the rock and roll spirit here in Disgracelane in a
- 12:53Speaker 1: very real and tangible way. Two hundred years from now, guys,
- 12:56Speaker 1: when the AI is writing all the hit songs and
- 12:59Speaker 1: rock and roll is just a far more distant memory
- 13:02Speaker 1: than it even is today, the future world can listen
- 13:04Speaker 1: to Disgraceland right here. They can hear your voices detailing
- 13:08Speaker 1: the once mighty spirit of rock and roll. Okay, you
- 13:11Speaker 1: can also hit me up with your answers to our
- 13:13Speaker 1: question of the week six one seven nine, six six
- 13:15Speaker 1: sixty three eight Voice Mountain text at Disgrace Lamdpard on
- 13:18Speaker 1: the Socials. Last week's question of the week was what
- 13:21Speaker 1: was your favorite Bill Murray performance? Sub question, I asked
- 13:24Speaker 1: for you guys to hit me with any first hand
- 13:26Speaker 1: personal Bill Murray stories from your encounters with this week's
- 13:31Speaker 1: full episode subject, Steve in Australia.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Great Jake.
- 13:35Speaker 3: It's Steve from the three one eighty three in Australia
- 13:40Speaker 3: in Melbourne. The Bill Murray roles. Favorite Bill Murray role.
- 13:44Speaker 3: I want to first off give a special mention to
- 13:46Speaker 3: Bill Murray in TUTSI. I think he's fantastic in that
- 13:50Speaker 3: perfect blend of struggling playwright and street smart New Yorker
- 13:56Speaker 3: who doesn't mind getting himself ripped every now and then.
- 14:00Speaker 3: He's a group of friends and I'll probably am far
- 14:03Speaker 3: from the first one to suggest this. I think Bill
- 14:06Speaker 3: my favorite Phil Murray role is easily in Stripes is
- 14:11Speaker 3: just fantastic stuff and it's not about Bill Murray. But
- 14:18Speaker 3: you have to also mention Harold Ramis in the same breath,
- 14:22Speaker 3: maybe rest in peace, but just you know, Bill Murray's
- 14:26Speaker 3: work as a John Winger in Stripes is absolutely outstanding.
- 14:31Speaker 3: My favorite film.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Murray role from Miles and Miles Steve. I got to
- 14:36Speaker 1: hand it to you, man. I have no recollection of
- 14:40Speaker 1: Bill Murray being in Tutsy, and I've seen Tutsy, but
- 14:43Speaker 1: I think I've only seen it as a child, and
- 14:46Speaker 1: I'm really excited about going back and watching it right
- 14:49Speaker 1: now because i can't remember this role at all. But also,
- 14:53Speaker 1: of course Stripes John Winger Steve my favorite performance as well. Incredible.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I think it's the iconic Bill Murray early first half
- 15:02Speaker 1: of his career. I think it's the iconic Bill Murray
- 15:05Speaker 1: performance to be all other performances. All right, let's check
- 15:09Speaker 1: out the eight six to two.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Hey Jacob Sam from the eight six two You Wanted
- 15:14Speaker 2: Bill Murray Stories. I encounted Bill Murray in the airport
- 15:17Speaker 2: one time. Being a fan. I walked up to mister
- 15:19Speaker 2: Murray asked for an autograph. He proceeded to take out
- 15:23Speaker 2: a pen and a piece of paper, looked at me
- 15:25Speaker 2: and said, I'd like your autograph. So I gave my autograph.
- 15:28Speaker 2: He looked at it and said, hey, that's pretty good. Thanks,
- 15:30Speaker 2: and he proceeded to give me his autograph. So peace.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Talk to you too.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Bye. Amazing story eight six two. Appreciate you. I love
- 15:39Speaker 1: this because it's just so on brand for Bill Murray
- 15:41Speaker 1: turning it around. Beautiful story. Thanks three one seven six
- 15:45Speaker 1: one seven nine oh six six six three eight three
- 15:49Speaker 1: one seven rights saying hey, Jake, this is Lauren from
- 15:51Speaker 1: the two o eight but with a three one seven
- 15:53Speaker 1: area code. Bill Murray steals the scene with whatever he does,
- 15:57Speaker 1: even in zombie Land, truly proves there are only small
- 15:59Speaker 1: actors in not small roles. He's hilarious as zombie Murray.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Love the show. Never seen zombie Land, But of course
- 16:06Speaker 1: now you got me intrigued, and I'm gonna check it out.
- 16:08Speaker 1: I wonder if it's appropriate for my kids. I'm struggling
- 16:10Speaker 1: finding movies to watch with my children. I think I'm
- 16:14Speaker 1: going to show him Blues Brothers side note. I showed
- 16:16Speaker 1: him the James Brown church scene the other day. I
- 16:20Speaker 1: think I can work my way around the sort of
- 16:22Speaker 1: not so safe for kids' parts in that movie. I
- 16:24Speaker 1: don't know. I'll check it out or report back down
- 16:27Speaker 1: from the six one nine formerly from the seven to
- 16:29Speaker 1: seven three right say. My favorite Bill Murray movie is
- 16:31Speaker 1: lost in translation. As a former flight attendant, this film
- 16:35Speaker 1: is close to my heart as it perfectly depicts how
- 16:38Speaker 1: it feels to be totally immersed in a foreign environment
- 16:40Speaker 1: and how finding a friend is so awesome. It also
- 16:43Speaker 1: shows the transient nature of these friendships. Love this text,
- 16:47Speaker 1: Thank you, don I appreciate that and that movie. I
- 16:50Speaker 1: think that's the quintessential movie, just like Stripes is of
- 16:53Speaker 1: the first half of Maury's career. Of the second half
- 16:55Speaker 1: of Maury's career more than Life Aquatic, which I might
- 16:59Speaker 1: like more, but I think in translation is probably a
- 17:03Speaker 1: better performance for old Bill. And to that point seven
- 17:08Speaker 1: seven five Rites, And as I get older, things I
- 17:11Speaker 1: found funny in my younger days don't hold up as such.
- 17:15Speaker 1: I find Bill Murray much more compelling and dramatic roles
- 17:17Speaker 1: where he can provide some comic relief. I really like
- 17:19Speaker 1: Saint Vincent for this reason. They're a handful of others
- 17:22Speaker 1: I also like, but this is the one that sticks
- 17:23Speaker 1: with me for some reason. For straight comedy. I liked
- 17:25Speaker 1: What About Bob? Love What About Bob. I'm happy that
- 17:28Speaker 1: Bill Murray didn't Bean Richard Dreyfus with that with that
- 17:31Speaker 1: ash tray on the set of What About Bob. Saint
- 17:34Speaker 1: Vincent I've only seen once. I don't really remember it.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I remember liking it. I guess I just I don't
- 17:39Speaker 1: really remember. This is a really interesting point that you
- 17:41Speaker 1: bring up here, seven seven five. I think I went
- 17:45Speaker 1: through a phase where the things that I found funny
- 17:48Speaker 1: when I was younger no longer appealed to me or
- 17:53Speaker 1: to my sense of humor for a brief period of time.
- 17:55Speaker 1: But now I'm finding I've sort of reverted to form,
- 17:59Speaker 1: and I laugh even harder at the things that I
- 18:02Speaker 1: found funny when I was a kid. Recently showed my
- 18:05Speaker 1: kids some Beavis and butt Ed episodes because they've been
- 18:08Speaker 1: hectoring me to watch the series, and there's no way
- 18:11Speaker 1: I'm letting them do that. But I did police it
- 18:13Speaker 1: sort of on YouTube, sort of pick some episodes that
- 18:17Speaker 1: I could watch with them and stop or fast forward
- 18:20Speaker 1: if things got a little too BEVs and I was dying.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I was dying laughing. So I don't know, maybe seven
- 18:29Speaker 1: to seventy five. At some point you're gonna come back around.
- 18:32Speaker 1: You're going to find those old Bill Murray movies funny again.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Who knows? Why not? Right, that'd be a good thing, right,
- 18:37Speaker 1: six one seven nine oh six six six three eight.
- 18:39Speaker 1: You guys want to send me some text, you want
- 18:40Speaker 1: to send me some voicemails, whatever you want to do.
- 18:43Speaker 1: You can also hit me up at Disgrace slam Pod
- 18:45Speaker 1: on Facebook, on Instagram, on x Lincoln Jesic on Instagram. Rights.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I had a sore throat. I drank fireball. No more
- 18:56Speaker 1: sore throat now I'm drunk. Take notes. Jake Brennan Lincoln.
- 19:01Speaker 1: That might be my favorite text of the day. Thank you.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Lots of Bill Murray content over on our Facebook page
- 19:06Speaker 1: and lots of commentary there from all of you users.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Good conversations going. We told the story on social media
- 19:13Speaker 1: this week, which we told in the episode. We sort
- 19:15Speaker 1: of micro adomized it. I should say, the story of
- 19:18Speaker 1: Bill Murray coming to blows with Chevy Chase almost on
- 19:22Speaker 1: live TV, but they were broken up by John Belushi
- 19:25Speaker 1: before us and I went live that night, and we,
- 19:28Speaker 1: like I said, we mentioned this. We tell this story
- 19:30Speaker 1: on Instagram and on Facebook, and a lot of you
- 19:33Speaker 1: have chimed in, so I'm in there as well. Head
- 19:35Speaker 1: over to Facebook dot com at disgracelam pod follow us
- 19:39Speaker 1: over there if you're not already, follow us on Instagram,
- 19:42Speaker 1: follow us on X and get into the conversation. All right,
- 19:44Speaker 1: I want to finish this segment with one more story
- 19:47Speaker 1: of rock and roll animalism. This one was quite hysterically
- 19:53Speaker 1: emailed to me by Double Elvis head of operations, Jamie Demas,
- 19:57Speaker 1: who I work with closely here now. Jamie mails me
- 20:00Speaker 1: every day, but she sent this to the Disgraceland email,
- 20:03Speaker 1: which I think was funny, and I talked to Jamie
- 20:06Speaker 1: quite frequently on the telephone and she did not mention this,
- 20:09Speaker 1: and I love it. I love that she just sent
- 20:12Speaker 1: it in as a Disgraceland listener and it's a great story.
- 20:15Speaker 1: So I'm going to read it to you.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Here.
- 20:16Speaker 1: It says, Hey, Jake, I've been listening to the after
- 20:18Speaker 1: Party episodes and want to contribute my craziest, most dangerous
- 20:21Speaker 1: rock and roll experience to this conversation. It was August eighth,
- 20:25Speaker 1: nineteen ninety two, and insane all caps lineup at Lollapalooza
- 20:29Speaker 1: great Woods. Great Woods is the big shed amphitheater in
- 20:34Speaker 1: Massachusetts and western Massachusetts for those who don't know. So
- 20:38Speaker 1: here's a lineup from Jamie's perspective, starting with Lush Pearl,
- 20:41Speaker 1: jam Jesus and Mary Chain, Soundgarden, Ice Cube, Ministry, and
- 20:46Speaker 1: the headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers. I was there on
- 20:49Speaker 1: the lawn with my then boyfriend Arthur. Everything was fine
- 20:52Speaker 1: and dandy until Ministry hit the stage and I was
- 20:54Speaker 1: not at all familiar with their stuff, but they were
- 20:56Speaker 1: loud and dark and they started whipping up the crowded
- 21:00Speaker 1: the small fire on the lawn and okay, so here's
- 21:02Speaker 1: what you gotta know. Great Woods, the first section of
- 21:05Speaker 1: the crowd, like the first one hundred rows or something
- 21:07Speaker 1: two hundred whatever it is, there are seats, and then
- 21:10Speaker 1: behind those seats there's a walkway, and then behind that
- 21:13Speaker 1: walkway is a big grass hill which they call the lawn,
- 21:17Speaker 1: and that's sort of general emission seating up there, and
- 21:20Speaker 1: that's where shit went down if you were going to
- 21:21Speaker 1: Great Woods back in the day. So Jamie goes on
- 21:24Speaker 1: to say, we noticed a small fire on the lawn.
- 21:26Speaker 1: People were burning mostly trash at first, and then more fires.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Then some guys started pulling down the wooden fencing surrounding
- 21:33Speaker 1: the venue and using the planks to build a huge bonfire.
- 21:36Speaker 1: We're talking twenty foot flames. It was insane. Soon hordes
- 21:40Speaker 1: of kids were running in circles around the enormous fire,
- 21:44Speaker 1: and the show went on, and I distinctly remember someone
- 21:46Speaker 1: throwing a blanket on the fire, which exploded into a
- 21:48Speaker 1: huge burst of flames. It was terrifying. At this point,
- 21:51Speaker 1: there were fires all over the lawn. All hell was
- 21:53Speaker 1: breaking loose in the lawn section. People started pulling up
- 21:55Speaker 1: sections of the turf and hurling at all the people
- 21:57Speaker 1: sitting in the seats, and only after people in the
- 21:59Speaker 1: seats were getting hit with bottles and chunks of turf
- 22:02Speaker 1: did the venue stop the performance. My memory is a
- 22:04Speaker 1: bit shady, Pretty sure I had consume some shrooms that evening,
- 22:07Speaker 1: but I recall Al Jurgenson asking the crowd to cut
- 22:09Speaker 1: the shit so they could keep playing. I also remember
- 22:12Speaker 1: fire trucks coming to put out the fires on the lawn.
- 22:14Speaker 1: But after that the show went on and read Hot
- 22:16Speaker 1: Chili Peppers played an amazing set that night exemplifies your
- 22:19Speaker 1: point about true rock and roll being dangerous rock a
- 22:22Speaker 1: rolla Jamie, great story. And you don't know this, but
- 22:26Speaker 1: I was actually at that show. We didn't know each
- 22:28Speaker 1: other at that point, and I remember it distinctly, but
- 22:30Speaker 1: I had forgotten about it, which is why I wanted
- 22:33Speaker 1: to read this. How does one forget about a massive
- 22:35Speaker 1: bonfire at a concert? And this thing was huge, now
- 22:38Speaker 1: I remember, and I remember the people dancing around it
- 22:41Speaker 1: to Ministry, by the way, and I was a fan
- 22:43Speaker 1: of Ministry, so I knew very well what Ministry was
- 22:45Speaker 1: cooking up. And it was dark, and that whole imagery
- 22:47Speaker 1: was borderline satanic. What is with people starting fires? Side
- 22:54Speaker 1: note caveat. Obviously, there's a lot going on in Los Angeles.
- 22:57Speaker 1: A lot of people have been affected by this horrible,
- 22:59Speaker 1: horrible disaster, and we're still getting to the bottom of
- 23:04Speaker 1: how it started, and there's a lot of information out there.
- 23:07Speaker 1: But I have seen videos of recent videos of people
- 23:10Speaker 1: lighting fires in Los Angeles, in these neighborhoods, adding to
- 23:15Speaker 1: the disaster, to the tragedy, with this lunacy, and I
- 23:18Speaker 1: just don't fucking get it. I said it before, I'll
- 23:22Speaker 1: say it again to any of you who are affected
- 23:24Speaker 1: by these fires out there, God bless, I'm thinking of you.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I'm thinking of your families. I had a close friend
- 23:30Speaker 1: of mine his loss his entire house. I know that
- 23:33Speaker 1: I am not unique. I know that a lot of
- 23:34Speaker 1: people have friends and family out there who have suffered
- 23:38Speaker 1: immense loss, and I'm sure some of you who will
- 23:40Speaker 1: eventually hear this will have suffered some sort of loss
- 23:43Speaker 1: as well. And again, my heart breaks for you, and
- 23:46Speaker 1: I hope you're doing as well as you can be.
- 23:49Speaker 1: I just would like to say I've seen evidence of
- 23:52Speaker 1: this all over social media, and I just want to
- 23:54Speaker 1: point it out that in the darkness, there is light,
- 23:58Speaker 1: and we are seeing people come together in the face
- 24:00Speaker 1: of this tragedy and help out other folks. And I
- 24:03Speaker 1: just think that is wonderful and I want to shine
- 24:05Speaker 1: a little light on that, and we should we should
- 24:07Speaker 1: try to focus on that as best we can. I'm
- 24:09Speaker 1: gonna take a quick break. I'll be back in the flash,
- 24:25Speaker 1: all right. I am back one more thing on the
- 24:27Speaker 1: La wildfires.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Here.
- 24:29Speaker 1: There's lots of places to donate to, you know Red Cross,
- 24:33Speaker 1: there's local organizations as well. You guys are all on
- 24:36Speaker 1: social media, see you see these organizations popping up. I
- 24:40Speaker 1: know you're donating. I reached out to a friend of
- 24:43Speaker 1: mine in Los Angeles and I just wanted to ask
- 24:46Speaker 1: him specifically. His home was spared, although he lives near
- 24:52Speaker 1: Alta Dina, and I asked him. I was like, are
- 24:54Speaker 1: there any organizations you want me to call out? And
- 24:57Speaker 1: he specifically mentioned Pasadena Humane and you can go to
- 25:03Speaker 1: give dot Pasadena Humane dot org. And obviously we're thinking
- 25:07Speaker 1: of all the people who are affected by this horrible tragedy.
- 25:11Speaker 1: And one of the really bad results of what's happening
- 25:15Speaker 1: out there in the Palisades and everywhere else in Los
- 25:17Speaker 1: Angeles where these fires are occurring is the displacement of
- 25:20Speaker 1: all these animals who have nowhere to go. And Pasadena Humane,
- 25:24Speaker 1: from my guy Chris's perspective, is a worthy organization who's
- 25:27Speaker 1: helping with these displaced animals. And again you can go
- 25:30Speaker 1: to give dot Pasadena Humane dot org if you care
- 25:35Speaker 1: to donate, and of course there's always the Red Cross
- 25:37Speaker 1: and as I said, a host of other organizations doing
- 25:40Speaker 1: really good work out there. All right, let's do some
- 25:45Speaker 1: what are we gonna do here, Let's do some reviews
- 25:47Speaker 1: real quick. The reviews, as you know, help with the show,
- 25:50Speaker 1: help with discovery. Carol Trotta over on Spotify Rights, in

- 30:55Speaker 1: could be something that you only know about, something that
- 30:57Speaker 1: happened to you or maybe not, maybe it's something from history.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Let me know, let me know who you are, let
