Latest / Cardinal Territory: A St. Louis Cardinals Podcast / MLB Draft Day: Cardinals take Liam Doyle with No. 5 pick
Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: The Saint Louis Cardinals beat the Atlanta Braves, five to four.
- 0:08Speaker 1: They finished the first half fifty one and forty six,
- 0:11Speaker 1: five games over five hundred, and they've landed one of
- 0:13Speaker 1: the most highly regarded pitchers in this year's draft class.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome back to Cardinal Territory. I'm your host, Katie Woo.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Let's recap what was a very busy and very long
- 0:23Speaker 1: Sunday here at bush Jam, and it's still going. We'll
- 0:26Speaker 1: start with the game itself, a game that began a
- 0:30Speaker 1: little after one pm local time and ended a little
- 0:33Speaker 1: after eight pm, so that was super cool. The Cardinals
- 0:36Speaker 1: braved through two very lengthy rain delays. I think we
- 0:39Speaker 1: were up to almost five hours of delays, and as
- 0:42Speaker 1: manager Olie Marmele said when that game finally ended, if
- 0:45Speaker 1: you're gonna wait that long for a game, you better
- 0:46Speaker 1: win it, and that they did. Jose Fermen was the
- 0:49Speaker 1: hero in this one. He smacked a go ahead, two
- 0:51Speaker 1: run homer in the seventh inning, the first homer of
- 0:53Speaker 1: his major league career. That's always special, especially when it
- 0:56Speaker 1: gives your team the lead, and the Cardinals really needed
- 0:59Speaker 1: to end the first tap on a good note. The
- 1:02Speaker 1: last thing you want to do is head into the
- 1:03Speaker 1: All Star Break getting swept, especially by a team like
- 1:06Speaker 1: the Braves that has just simply not had a good season.
- 1:08Speaker 1: So they played a very winnable series. The Cardinals lost
- 1:12Speaker 1: by one run both Friday and Saturday, and I was
- 1:16Speaker 1: off on Saturday, but I firmly believe they were going
- 1:17Speaker 1: to win that game. A ninth inning and eighth in
- 1:20Speaker 1: y collapse that just was pretty unusual for filmmaton at least.
- 1:23Speaker 1: So two very winnable games Friday and Saturday put you
- 1:26Speaker 1: in a spot where you felt like you absolutely had
- 1:28Speaker 1: to win today's game, and they were able to do
- 1:30Speaker 1: so despite what was just a very grueling, grueling time
- 1:35Speaker 1: at the ballpark. But in between all those raindelays, we
- 1:38Speaker 1: had plenty of things to talk about, because, in case
- 1:40Speaker 1: you hadn't heard, with the fifth overall pick in the
- 1:43Speaker 1: twenty twenty five MLB Amateur Draft, the Cardinals selected left
- 1:46Speaker 1: handed pitcher Liam Doyle out of the University of Tennessee,
- 1:50Speaker 1: and this was a very exciting pick. I think for
- 1:53Speaker 1: those of you unfamiliar with Liam Doyle, I'll go ahead
- 1:55Speaker 1: and read you some stats off the Cardinals press release.
- 1:58Speaker 1: He's twenty one years old, recently completed his junior season
- 2:01Speaker 1: with the Volunteers. He made nineteen appearances, seventeen starts, went
- 2:05Speaker 1: ten to four with a three point two zero ERA.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And this is the most exciting part, a school record
- 2:10Speaker 1: one hundred and sixty four strikeouts across ninety five and
- 2:14Speaker 1: two thirds innings pitched. He led the nation with a
- 2:16Speaker 1: strikeout per nine innings rate of fifteen point four, three
- 2:21Speaker 1: second overall in the country in strikeouts collegiately. And when
- 2:25Speaker 1: you ask scouting director Randy Flores what sticks out about
- 2:29Speaker 1: Liam Doyle, here's what he'll say. We have a little
- 2:33Speaker 1: recap up of the day on the athletic Here's what
- 2:35Speaker 1: Flores told media when he spoke to us a couple
- 2:37Speaker 1: of hours ago. When we saw that Liam Doyle could
- 2:40Speaker 1: be in play, as the draft board unfolded, everyone was excited.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Doyle has a very unique fastball. Not only is the
- 2:47Speaker 1: shape unique, the velocity is a level above his peers.
- 2:50Speaker 1: There are a range of outcomes of any player, and
- 2:52Speaker 1: his range of outcomes includes an extremely high floor and
- 2:55Speaker 1: the ceiling is through the roof. So let's talk out.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Let's talk about that fastball because it is his most
- 3:01Speaker 1: dominant weapon. I mean, it is truly one of the
- 3:04Speaker 1: reasons why. And we'll get into this. Liam Doyle is
- 3:07Speaker 1: projected to be one of the quicker fast track quick risers,
- 3:11Speaker 1: however you want to talk it prospect in the majors.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Doyle was named the SEC pitcher of the Year, and
- 3:17Speaker 1: he tore up the opposition with his fastball. Since ninety
- 3:20Speaker 1: six ninety nine regularly topped out at one hundred and
- 3:23Speaker 1: one miles per hour. He struck out over forty two
- 3:25Speaker 1: percent of batter's faced this year and that's super exciting
- 3:30Speaker 1: because when you have a chance to draft high below
- 3:33Speaker 1: swing and miss from the left side, you take that.
- 3:37Speaker 1: And there were a ton of impressive lefty collegiate arms there.
- 3:40Speaker 1: To me, Doyle is the one that is the most
- 3:43Speaker 1: exciting because of that aforementioned fast track possibility to the
- 3:46Speaker 1: major leagues. Here's a message, or not a message, an article,
- 3:50Speaker 1: A snippet from Keith Law, our top prospect draft evaluator,
- 3:54Speaker 1: on why he believes Liam Doyle could be a very
- 3:57Speaker 1: quick riser through a minor league systems Out the fastball first.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I'll read it. Doyle's fastball may be the best in
- 4:03Speaker 1: the class this year in terms of how it plays,
- 4:06Speaker 1: which should at the very least let him get through
- 4:08Speaker 1: the miners quickly. Now Here is where Keith Locke kind
- 4:11Speaker 1: of speculates or hypothesizes on what that track record could
- 4:14Speaker 1: look like. Law said a team could take Doyle in
- 4:18Speaker 1: July and either try to call him up as a
- 4:19Speaker 1: reliever in September if they're contending, or more likely and
- 4:23Speaker 1: maybe more responsibly, put him on the same path that
- 4:26Speaker 1: Chase Birds or Paul Skemes took eyeing a Junish call
- 4:29Speaker 1: up next year. Now we know this about the draft.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Major league teams do not draft for major league need
- 4:35Speaker 1: you draft for what's available. But when you think about
- 4:37Speaker 1: the skyrocketing costs of starting pitching on the market, and
- 4:41Speaker 1: you have an ability to take someone that many project
- 4:43Speaker 1: across the board, whether you get your evaluations from the
- 4:46Speaker 1: Athletic Baseball America ESPN that say he could be a
- 4:50Speaker 1: number two starter very soon, you take it. And that's
- 4:53Speaker 1: exactly what Flow was talking about when he spoke to
- 4:56Speaker 1: us earlier this evening. I asked him about if there's
- 5:00Speaker 1: any consideration about the market and starting pitching and why
- 5:03Speaker 1: you would need to maybe lean towards developing it instead
- 5:05Speaker 1: of going out and acquiring it because it's so expensive,
- 5:08Speaker 1: and that's exactly what he said. He said there is
- 5:10Speaker 1: risk in this pick, but I think for upside you
- 5:13Speaker 1: have to swallow that risk. Acquiring swing and miss. Acquiring
- 5:16Speaker 1: one hundred and one miles per hour with that unique
- 5:18Speaker 1: fastball on the free agent market is very expensive, and
- 5:22Speaker 1: we know the Cardinals have never really been in the
- 5:24Speaker 1: market for such lucrative acquisitions. So to be able to
- 5:27Speaker 1: have someone, especially with the organization focusing on drafting and developing,
- 5:32Speaker 1: reverting back to what they were really good at, this
- 5:35Speaker 1: is such a fun pick. We'll have a chance to
- 5:37Speaker 1: talk to Liam Doyle very shortly. I think he's going
- 5:39Speaker 1: to zoom with reporters within the next hour, so very
- 5:42Speaker 1: excited to get to know a little bit about what
- 5:43Speaker 1: he's about. If you would like to know about Liam
- 5:45Speaker 1: Doyle and you're not quite sure because the draft, MLB
- 5:48Speaker 1: draft is not like NBA or NFL, where you know
- 5:51Speaker 1: these players because you see them every day and you
- 5:53Speaker 1: know they're usually not major league ready. If you would
- 5:56Speaker 1: like a little snippet on who Liam Doyle the pitcher is,
- 5:58Speaker 1: just google Lian Doyle celebrations and you will see a
- 6:02Speaker 1: very fiery person who is not afraid to express his
- 6:06Speaker 1: emotions on the mound. Gives me a little bit lance
- 6:08Speaker 1: Lynn Chris Carpenter vibes. Just a really fun pick. And again,
- 6:12Speaker 1: something that I think has been not usual for the
- 6:16Speaker 1: Cardinals this is they had a chance to really do
- 6:18Speaker 1: something here with a number five pick, and they're thrilled
- 6:22Speaker 1: about it. And again, for those of you who need
- 6:24Speaker 1: a refresher, this is the first time in Cardinals franchise
- 6:26Speaker 1: history where they've had back to back years with a
- 6:29Speaker 1: top ten pick. They obviously took JJ Wetherholt number seven overall.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Now they have Liam Doyle, largely regarded as one of
- 6:35Speaker 1: the best left handed pitchers available in this draft class,
- 6:39Speaker 1: and again many believe his bash track to the majors
- 6:42Speaker 1: is a legit possibility. So Cardinals will make four picks
- 6:46Speaker 1: total tonight. The draft is three rounds. This in Day
- 6:49Speaker 1: one and then Day two begins at ten thirty Central time.
- 6:52Speaker 1: They already made their second pick, number fifty five overall.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Let me pull it up because I just thought it
- 6:57Speaker 1: just came through. Oh and they also just their seventy second.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Things are picking up. So with the their fifty fifth pick,
- 7:03Speaker 1: In the draft, the Cardinal selected outfielder Ryan Mitchell from
- 7:06Speaker 1: Houston High School, and then with their third pick, they
- 7:10Speaker 1: selected right handed pitcher Tanner Franklin, another volunteer. So clearly
- 7:14Speaker 1: Saint Louis Legend Tony Battello, the head coach of the
- 7:16Speaker 1: Tennessee Volunteers, having some impact with this draft. We'll break
- 7:20Speaker 1: down a lot more about Liam Doyle as we get
- 7:22Speaker 1: to know him a little bit more over the next
- 7:23Speaker 1: week or so. Uh, And we're gonna get to talk
- 7:27Speaker 1: to Liam Doyle in exactly twenty minutes, So this is
- 7:29Speaker 1: going to be a short a shorter episode. With that
- 7:32Speaker 1: being said, let's get to our first ad read. Let's
- 7:35Speaker 1: hear from Hewle. Aj.
- 7:37Speaker 2: We're in Vegas right now and I have not had
- 7:39Speaker 2: a lot of time to eat during the day.
- 7:41Speaker 1: No, what could we do? I could? I would love
- 7:43Speaker 1: Ahuel right now. Vanilla Huell would go down perfectly because
- 7:46Speaker 1: we have to skip meals because I'm too busy doing
- 7:49Speaker 1: what you do in Vegas, which is not eat. I
- 7:51Speaker 1: need a quick replacement, and Hewle is the perfect thing.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I'm a chocolate guy, myself got the chocolate milkshake vibes
- 7:57Speaker 2: to it. If you miss a meal, Hu'll come answer.

- 8:32Speaker 2: Know It fo Ul minimum seventy five dollars purchase.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Get after it all, Right, let's pivot to the major
- 8:39Speaker 1: league roster. Before Sunday's game, the Cardinals activated Evon Herrera
- 8:43Speaker 1: off the injured list but placed Lars Newpar on it.
- 8:46Speaker 1: I'm going to read the official uh I don't know
- 8:49Speaker 1: diagnosis because it's very long and I don't really know
- 8:51Speaker 1: how to pronounce it. He was based on the ten
- 8:54Speaker 1: day injured list with a left coastal chondril sprain. So
- 8:57Speaker 1: for those of you who are not doctors like myself,
- 9:00Speaker 1: that is essentially the same rib cage area that's plagued
- 9:02Speaker 1: him for the last couple of weeks, just unable to
- 9:04Speaker 1: play through it. The hope is he'll take four days
- 9:06Speaker 1: off for the All Star Break and miss the minimum
- 9:08Speaker 1: amount of time, or maybe a little bit over. Cardinals
- 9:11Speaker 1: don't believe it'll be something that'll wipe him out for
- 9:12Speaker 1: a month, but he certainly needs a couple of weeks
- 9:15Speaker 1: to heal from that. The ribs, the cartilage over there,
- 9:17Speaker 1: it's a very tricky place. But the good news for
- 9:20Speaker 1: the Cardinals is out of von Horrera picked up right
- 9:22Speaker 1: where he left off. He was a DH hit second
- 9:24Speaker 1: today and the Cardinals had a really short bench. Nolan
- 9:27Speaker 1: Ronado is still dealing with that right index sprain. He
- 9:30Speaker 1: was not available today. Nolan Gorman, after his big day
- 9:32Speaker 1: on Saturday, had his backlock up. He was unavailable today.
- 9:36Speaker 1: So they really had, I think what nine ten players
- 9:41Speaker 1: to go and that was not easy by any means. Again,
- 9:45Speaker 1: factory into the range, So not what you want. The
- 9:48Speaker 1: Cardinals are banged up. This break could not be coming
- 9:51Speaker 1: at a better time for anyone, including myself. So as
- 9:54Speaker 1: we look forward to what the Cardinals look like in
- 9:56Speaker 1: the second half. We know there will not be a
- 9:58Speaker 1: new bar. Maybe a Jordan Walker. We'll see. He homewred
- 10:02Speaker 1: yesterday was yesterday Saturday, Yes, for Double A springfield, which
- 10:06Speaker 1: is a great sign. But again this is a major
- 10:07Speaker 1: league hitter, so he you know, homering in Double A
- 10:10Speaker 1: loses a little bit of the glory. We're looking more
- 10:13Speaker 1: or less. And we said this in the last episode
- 10:15Speaker 1: on the approach, on the pitch selection, on how he
- 10:17Speaker 1: feels overall, the results are just an added bonus. Not
- 10:21Speaker 1: quite sure what this means for Nolan Arnado. The last
- 10:23Speaker 1: conversation I had with him was that he was really
- 10:25Speaker 1: hoping that some rest would be able to excuse me
- 10:28Speaker 1: one second, gotta get to that. Like I said, gure's
- 10:33Speaker 1: just a lot going on. This is a crazy way
- 10:34Speaker 1: to end the first half. But back to Nolan, Arnado
- 10:38Speaker 1: was hoping that the next few days just away from
- 10:40Speaker 1: baseball to give him a chance to reset. This is
- 10:42Speaker 1: a guy that has historically avoided the injured list throughout
- 10:44Speaker 1: his career. I think he's only been on it three
- 10:46Speaker 1: times in his over twelve year tenure in baseball, so
- 10:49Speaker 1: not something that he really is crazy about. He wants
- 10:51Speaker 1: to play there every day, but he did acknowledge on
- 10:53Speaker 1: Friday when he left the game early, that the index
- 10:57Speaker 1: spring or the index finger spraing was made making it
- 11:00Speaker 1: hard to throw, It is making it hard to hit,
- 11:01Speaker 1: and he just couldn't play baseball like this. It's just
- 11:04Speaker 1: not looking like good baseball all around. So keep your
- 11:07Speaker 1: fingers crossed, fan Nolan Ronado. The Cardinals could certainly, especially
- 11:10Speaker 1: when you think about how important the next two weeks
- 11:12Speaker 1: are leading into the trade deadline. They can't afford to
- 11:14Speaker 1: lose him. The back thing for Nolan Gorman that's always
- 11:17Speaker 1: been an on and off issue. Again, hope is that
- 11:20Speaker 1: with rest he'll be fine. But it's no secret that
- 11:23Speaker 1: the Cardinals here are running on fumes. So I'm not
- 11:26Speaker 1: sure what this means. Who's going to replace a new
- 11:28Speaker 1: bar every day in left field or listens in a
- 11:31Speaker 1: nice job becoming a corner outfielder. And again, maybe this
- 11:34Speaker 1: opens the door for Jordan Walker, but we'll see. What
- 11:37Speaker 1: I do know about this Cardinals team is that we
- 11:39Speaker 1: lean into the thick of it after the draft. The
- 11:43Speaker 1: All Star Game will be super great in Atlanta. We
- 11:45Speaker 1: love that fun celebration. But I think as major league
- 11:49Speaker 1: executives are tuning in to what's going on. There hasn't
- 11:52Speaker 1: been just a lot of traction, and that's because there
- 11:54Speaker 1: are so many bubble teams, the Cardinals included, that are
- 11:57Speaker 1: going to impact the trade deadline, but the major already
- 12:00Speaker 1: of these bubble teams. As I pull up the wild
- 12:02Speaker 1: card roster one moment, please let's just go through them,
- 12:06Speaker 1: because there's a ton in both league both leagues. The
- 12:10Speaker 1: National League has a bunch of players in wild card contention,
- 12:13Speaker 1: all separated by six and a half games, the Brewers,
- 12:17Speaker 1: the Mets, and the Padres. As we close out the
- 12:18Speaker 1: first half, they would have the wild card spots. The
- 12:21Speaker 1: Giants are a half game out, the Cardinals are a
- 12:23Speaker 1: game and a half, and the Reds are two and
- 12:25Speaker 1: a half. Diamondbacks kind of lingering, looking like they're probably
- 12:29Speaker 1: might sell at forty seven and fifty five and a
- 12:31Speaker 1: half games out of the wildcard. So you're looking at
- 12:34Speaker 1: six teams kind of all in the bubble on if
- 12:36Speaker 1: they can make the play, if they can make the postseason,
- 12:39Speaker 1: if they should push for it. Then you look at
- 12:41Speaker 1: the American League. You have the Yankees, the Red Sox,
- 12:44Speaker 1: and the Mariners with the top three spots. Right now
- 12:47Speaker 1: and then this is super fascinating to me. You have
- 12:50Speaker 1: a group of one, two, three, four, five six teams
- 12:54Speaker 1: in the wildcard race for the final three spots, and
- 12:57Speaker 1: five of them have records under five hundred. The Rays
- 13:00Speaker 1: are the closest to sneaking into that wildcard spot at
- 13:03Speaker 1: fifteen forty seven. They are a game and a half out,
- 13:06Speaker 1: but the Rangers are a game under five hundred. The
- 13:08Speaker 1: Angels are two, the Twins are two, the Royals are three,
- 13:11Speaker 1: the Guardians are three, and the Guardians, representing the lowest
- 13:14Speaker 1: on that level, are just four and a half games
- 13:16Speaker 1: out of the wildcards. So again, a ton of bubble
- 13:19Speaker 1: teams that are really impacting and congesting the trade deadline,
- 13:22Speaker 1: which makes it really hard for the industry to know
- 13:26Speaker 1: what exactly is going on here. So I would expect
- 13:29Speaker 1: over the next two weeks as we kick off play,
- 13:30Speaker 1: the Cardinals will start. We'll start the second half in
- 13:33Speaker 1: Arizona on Friday against the Diamondbacks. You're going to see
- 13:36Speaker 1: over the next ten days teams really start to make
- 13:39Speaker 1: a decision on if they're buyers, sellers, or holders. Not
- 13:42Speaker 1: every single bubble team is going to stay in this race,
- 13:44Speaker 1: and that could be the Cardinals, who knows, But eventually
- 13:46Speaker 1: teams are going to taper out and then the market
- 13:49Speaker 1: will take place. And as I talk to agents, executives,
- 13:52Speaker 1: fellow reporters across the industry, we are all expecting an
- 13:56Speaker 1: insane final seventy two hours before the trade deadline, so
- 13:59Speaker 1: we paid. I know there hasn't been a lot of
- 14:01Speaker 1: traction going on, not a lot of news, not a
- 14:03Speaker 1: lot of rumors. That will change. It will just make
- 14:06Speaker 1: for a very crazy, hectic week as we head into
- 14:09Speaker 1: the deadline, which is scheduled for July thirty first, at
- 14:12Speaker 1: five pm Saint Louis time. And I don't really have
- 14:16Speaker 1: a lot of updates as to who the Cardinals could
- 14:18Speaker 1: be trading or who they couldn't be, because again, they
- 14:21Speaker 1: haven't really decided their path or the direction they're going
- 14:24Speaker 1: to take. I will say, in talking to various executives
- 14:26Speaker 1: across the league, they have a ton of players that
- 14:29Speaker 1: teams are interested in. So if they do decide to sell,
- 14:33Speaker 1: I believe one executive told me they could be a
- 14:35Speaker 1: real lynchpin for the industry. The problem is that I
- 14:38Speaker 1: don't think the Cardinals are very inclined to sell at
- 14:40Speaker 1: the moment, especially if they're just a game and half
- 14:42Speaker 1: out of the wild card race. So I don't know, guys,
- 14:45Speaker 1: I don't know, could get weird. We'll see quick message
- 14:48Speaker 1: from our partners at DraftKings and we'll get into some

- 15:56Speaker 1: voiceteen played back at me in real time. That's scary
- 15:59Speaker 1: for the those of you who listened to this podcast,
- 16:01Speaker 1: Thank you, because if that's what my voice sounds like
- 16:03Speaker 1: on a daily basis, how annoying you h All right, guys,
- 16:08Speaker 1: as we head into the second half, I for one,
- 16:10Speaker 1: would not have had the Cardinals five games over five hundred,
- 16:13Speaker 1: and I think all around, it's been a much more
- 16:15Speaker 1: exciting first half. And I know Bernie and I talked
- 16:17Speaker 1: about this on last episode. I understand your apathy. I
- 16:21Speaker 1: understand the messaging has probably impacted your view over this organization,
- 16:25Speaker 1: and I get it. And I had a couple of
- 16:26Speaker 1: conversations with some people within the organization and we all
- 16:29Speaker 1: came to the same conclusion. You were told at the
- 16:31Speaker 1: end of the twenty twenty four season that in twenty
- 16:34Speaker 1: twenty five, essentially the focus and priority would not be
- 16:36Speaker 1: on winning ball games. It would be about drafting and developing.
- 16:39Speaker 1: And I firmly believe this is the right path for
- 16:41Speaker 1: the Cardinals to take going forward. I think what they're
- 16:43Speaker 1: doing is smart. I know it doesn't make for the
- 16:45Speaker 1: most compelling baseball and it certainly is a frustrating time
- 16:48Speaker 1: to be a fan, but I think the organization long
- 16:50Speaker 1: term will benefit immensely from this. And I think I'm heavy.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I was having a hard time understanding why there was
- 16:57Speaker 1: such a disconnect over the cardinals surprising success, and it's
- 17:00Speaker 1: because you all were conditioned to expect not a good season,
- 17:04Speaker 1: and you you know, the Cardinals didn't spend in the
- 17:06Speaker 1: off season. They likely aren't going to make any impact trades.
- 17:10Speaker 1: There's some definitely some fatigue with the president baseball operations,
- 17:13Speaker 1: and to some extent, the manager, and essentially you were
- 17:16Speaker 1: as a fan base, we're told from ownership, hey, we're
- 17:19Speaker 1: not going to spend money on this team. We're gonna
- 17:21Speaker 1: like try to win, but our money is not going
- 17:23Speaker 1: to be put where our mouth is, and we're going
- 17:24Speaker 1: to focus on the long term outlook of this team.
- 17:27Speaker 1: If we win, great, And I know Cardinals fans are
- 17:30Speaker 1: sitting here thinking, well, if the message wasn't that they're
- 17:32Speaker 1: trying to win, why should we why should we reward
- 17:35Speaker 1: them for doing something they weren't trying to do in
- 17:37Speaker 1: the first place. I understand, I get it, and if
- 17:39Speaker 1: I was a fan, I would probably feel the same way.
- 17:42Speaker 1: But I do think as we sit here on July
- 17:44Speaker 1: thirteenth that the Cardinals, you know, the probability of them
- 17:49Speaker 1: going on and having like a twenty eleven year that's
- 17:52Speaker 1: not very high. And if I'm sitting here now, I
- 17:54Speaker 1: do probably think they're very similar. The season trajectory is
- 17:57Speaker 1: probably going to be very similar to twenty twenty four,
- 18:00Speaker 1: or they're in it a little bit up until the
- 18:01Speaker 1: final couple weeks of the season. But I still think
- 18:05Speaker 1: that there are some really excited pieces to look forward to.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Whether that's Brendan Donovan, whether it's Matthew Libertore, take your
- 18:12Speaker 1: pick of some of these young guys. Victor Scott the
- 18:14Speaker 1: second still a defensive star out there. Just try to
- 18:17Speaker 1: enjoy it because it could have been so much worse.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I didn't think the season was going to be like
- 18:21Speaker 1: twenty twenty three status, at least I hope not. But
- 18:24Speaker 1: to be able to sit here as we head into
- 18:25Speaker 1: the All Star break and talk about the Cardinals playing
- 18:27Speaker 1: competitive baseball, that was not something I had on my
- 18:30Speaker 1: personal twenty twenty five, said Louis Cardinals Bingo card So
- 18:34Speaker 1: I don't know what's going on in the second half.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I know it's been frustrating the season, and I know
- 18:38Speaker 1: the messaging changes all the time. Trust me as someone
- 18:41Speaker 1: who is responsible for delivering said message. It is very
- 18:44Speaker 1: hard to keep up. And if you feel like you
- 18:46Speaker 1: are being gas lit or you have commitment issues with
- 18:49Speaker 1: the organization, I hear you. I totally do. But something
- 18:53Speaker 1: I've tried to tell myself as we head into crunch time,
- 18:55Speaker 1: if you will, of the season, is that it's best
- 18:59Speaker 1: to just try to enjoy it because it's such an
- 19:01Speaker 1: unpredictable sport and this has been such a roller coaster
- 19:04Speaker 1: season so far. If we focus on the long term picture,
- 19:08Speaker 1: I think this is the right step for the organization.
- 19:10Speaker 1: So let's just enjoy the ride, no matter where it goes. Wow,
- 19:13Speaker 1: so mature, so calm, See what like eighteen hours at
- 19:17Speaker 1: the ballpark does for me in one day. I've lost
- 19:18Speaker 1: my mind, all right, Cardinal Territory, friends and family. I
- 19:21Speaker 1: gotta jump off this one a little early because we
- 19:23Speaker 1: have Liam Doyle in exactly nine minutes, and I would
- 19:25Speaker 1: like to personally get to know the newest Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 19:27Speaker 1: So hopefully next next week we'll definitely have more information
- 19:31Speaker 1: on him, We'll have more of a background. We're working
- 19:33Speaker 1: on getting a couple of very special guests in the
- 19:35Speaker 1: next two weeks, so that's exciting and I hope to
- 19:38Speaker 1: stick around for it. Have a safe and happy All
- 19:40Speaker 1: Star break. We'll still have three episodes for you next week.
- 19:42Speaker 1: There are no days off here. You know this by now,
- 19:45Speaker 1: so there's always thanks for watching and sticking with me
- 19:47Speaker 1: throughout the first half. Let's hope the second half is
- 19:50Speaker 1: just as fun, if not more, And yeah, it'll be
- 19:52Speaker 1: safe the new time
