Transcript
- 0:19Speaker 1: Hey everyone, Emily ABOUDI here you are listening to another
- 0:24Speaker 1: episode of Five Minute Friday from Hurdle. What is going
- 0:28Speaker 1: on this week has felt like absolutely non stop for me.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I got back into that way that I get back
- 0:37Speaker 1: into that way, back into the groove that I get
- 0:40Speaker 1: into when I know I have a lot to get
- 0:41Speaker 1: done and that I have been scheduling out my days
- 0:45Speaker 1: and giving certain time blocks to certain activities, which is
- 0:49Speaker 1: a super great way for me to get these things
- 0:53Speaker 1: done and to be productive. But back to back days
- 0:56Speaker 1: with timestamped schedules has got me feel in some kind
- 1:01Speaker 1: of way heading into the weekend aka just really really
- 1:05Speaker 1: ready for it. Anyway, today's five Minute Friday, I'm talking
- 1:09Speaker 1: to you about a fun little morning I had filled
- 1:12Speaker 1: with customer service earlier this week. It kickstarted speaking to
- 1:17Speaker 1: my ever lovely friends at Verizon FiOS. I know, I
- 1:21Speaker 1: know that these individuals that I speak with, it is
- 1:23Speaker 1: not their direct fault that I'm having Internet issues. But
- 1:28Speaker 1: when you have to work with not one, not two,
- 1:31Speaker 1: but three different representatives to get done what you've got
- 1:35Speaker 1: to get done, who there's some patience involved in that.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So after my lovely little Verizon experience, that I had
- 1:44Speaker 1: on I believe Tuesday morning. I then was scheduled to
- 1:50Speaker 1: head on over to the Apple Genius bar and talk
- 1:52Speaker 1: to them about my AirPods which were connecting unexpectedly to
- 1:57Speaker 1: some of my devices throughout the day. I am sitting
- 2:01Speaker 1: there waiting for the genius to come over to me
- 2:05Speaker 1: when I look up and see an elderly veteran sitting
- 2:10Speaker 1: down with his iPad and another genius. Basically, what it
- 2:14Speaker 1: seems to be is that somehow the password got changed
- 2:17Speaker 1: on this man's Gmail account and so that is why
- 2:22Speaker 1: his emails aren't showing up on the iPad. But he
- 2:26Speaker 1: swears he didn't change it. He cannot figure it out.
- 2:29Speaker 1: So in the nicest way possible, the Apple Genius is
- 2:33Speaker 1: explaining to him, well, you know what we could do
- 2:35Speaker 1: to fix this, We might as well just reset the
- 2:38Speaker 1: password together. So the genius he starts talking it through
- 2:42Speaker 1: with the man on how to reset his Gmail password,
- 2:46Speaker 1: and the veteran says, you know, I'm just I'm kind
- 2:48Speaker 1: of old if he can't tell like, I'm not very
- 2:51Speaker 1: good at this technology stuff. And the Apple Genius, this
- 2:56Speaker 1: nice young man, looks at him and says, you know
- 2:58Speaker 1: what it's Okay, man, we can do this together. And
- 3:02Speaker 1: I was just in awe really of this beautiful moment
- 3:09Speaker 1: of kindness and thinking about how many people go into
- 3:14Speaker 1: that store and something is wrong right, like their computer
- 3:18Speaker 1: is blowing up, feels like everything is going out the window.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And these employees so often have the most beautiful patience
- 3:28Speaker 1: with these customers because that's their job, right And so
- 3:32Speaker 1: in this moment, I just became really appreciative both for
- 3:36Speaker 1: excellent customer service, but also for the opportunity just to
- 3:41Speaker 1: treat somebody else with kindness. I said this, I think
- 3:44Speaker 1: in the android of Monday's episode. But there's just so
- 3:46Speaker 1: much going on in the world right now, and the
- 3:49Speaker 1: least that we can do in this moment that requires
- 3:52Speaker 1: little to know effort is for us to be kind
- 3:56Speaker 1: to one another. So my prompt for you this week,
- 4:00Speaker 1: what is one random act of kindness that you can
- 4:02Speaker 1: do for a friend, family member, or coworker today? Again,
- 4:09Speaker 1: what is one random act of kindness that you can
- 4:11Speaker 1: do for a friend, family member, or coworker today? And
- 4:17Speaker 1: now a listener question.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Hi, Emily, my name is Tory, and I have a
- 4:23Speaker 2: question about whether you have ever had a marathon training
- 4:26Speaker 2: cycle go poorly, and whether you've ever made the decision
- 4:30Speaker 2: to not run the race because of that. I'm not
- 4:34Speaker 2: really talking about an injury, but maybe just a season
- 4:36Speaker 2: of life that was overwhelming and stressful, and maybe that
- 4:41Speaker 2: poured over into your training and it was less productive
- 4:45Speaker 2: than you had hoped. I recently made the choice to
- 4:50Speaker 2: not run a marathon that I've been training for, and
- 4:53Speaker 2: I've been struggling with that decision, but it feels right
- 4:55Speaker 2: for me now. Just wondering if you've experienced anything similar
- 4:59Speaker 2: or if you have any advice.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Thanks Wow, Thank you, Thank you for sharing that with
- 5:05Speaker 1: me and the community. I can imagine that this hasn't
- 5:09Speaker 1: been an easy decision for you, but it seems as
- 5:13Speaker 1: though from your own words that it was, without a doubt,
- 5:18Speaker 1: the right decision for you. And what you have to
- 5:22Speaker 1: go back to is exactly what you said, which was
- 5:27Speaker 1: I feel and I know that I made the right decision.
- 5:31Speaker 1: That is what matters. Period. I know that a lot
- 5:35Speaker 1: of the time we'll put something out there in the
- 5:37Speaker 1: world and we feel this obscene amount of pressure, which
- 5:41Speaker 1: ultimately we put on ourselves, right, but we feel as
- 5:44Speaker 1: though it's coming from other people to live up to
- 5:46Speaker 1: some sort of an expectation set sometimes by social media
- 5:50Speaker 1: or family or friends. But the right people in your life,
- 5:55Speaker 1: they really just want what's best for you, right, they
- 5:58Speaker 1: want you to be happy. So if you felt as
- 6:02Speaker 1: though that training cycle was no longer serving you, then
- 6:06Speaker 1: guess what you did exactly the right thing. You, in fact,
- 6:11Speaker 1: are probably farther ahead than someone that is just so
- 6:14Speaker 1: worried about that feedback someone else's opinion. By listening to
- 6:21Speaker 1: your gut, you're giving your body and your mind, your
- 6:24Speaker 1: mental health, your being exactly what it needs. And this
- 6:29Speaker 1: holds true for any decision you've got to live your life.
- 6:34Speaker 1: For you, feeling good about your decisions. People pleasing can
- 6:39Speaker 1: be super detrimental and really exhausting, so remember it starts
- 6:45Speaker 1: with you. Thanks y'all for listening, Have an excellent, excellent weekend,
- 6:50Speaker 1: and keep hurdling. Another hurdle conquered. Catch you guys next time.
