- 1:27Speaker 1: DJ head West Coast, West Coast. I know the people
- 1:29Speaker 1: who's waiting for that. You know what I'm saying. West
- 1:32Speaker 1: Coast is in the building. Yeah, this is interesting, it
- 1:35Speaker 1: is this is so interesting. I just want to say, uh,
- 1:38Speaker 1: just for the record, I want to start off by
- 1:41Speaker 1: saying this on record. I've said this on the radio, yeah,
- 1:44Speaker 1: but I've never I've never said it in your presence
- 1:46Speaker 1: because we haven't really seen each other. The way you
- 1:49Speaker 1: handled iHeart letting you go, yeah, was fucking incredible, Like
- 1:55Speaker 1: I think. And I said, I don't know if you
- 1:57Speaker 1: if you heard or heard or if anybody told you
- 1:59Speaker 1: when I was on the air when I went on
- 2:00Speaker 1: the air the day after they after you left iHeart,
- 2:04Speaker 1: I went on the air at seven pm Shark and
- 2:08Speaker 1: I said, the way boutleg keV has handled. This situation
- 2:12Speaker 1: is bar none and moving forward, nobody could tell me
- 2:15Speaker 1: anything about boot Leg KIV. Yeah, man, I think you
- 2:18Speaker 1: know you and I would have these talks off all
- 2:21Speaker 1: the time. I mean all the fucking time. And you
- 2:24Speaker 1: know what another thing too, People are like, hey, then
- 2:26Speaker 1: you know. I'm like, bro, you know how many times
- 2:28Speaker 1: they hit me with me and you got the same
- 2:30Speaker 1: kind of call. We thought you missed Doc's call and
- 2:32Speaker 1: we thought we were both done. I thought I was known.
- 2:35Speaker 1: But this is the thing. People was like, man, did
- 2:37Speaker 1: you get ahead? I said, Bro, you know how many
- 2:38Speaker 1: times I've been told I having fire kV. You better
- 2:41Speaker 1: talk to him. You know what I'm saying, like, yeah,
- 2:43Speaker 1: I think. I think. What what's crazy is I got
- 2:45Speaker 1: re signed in April during the pandemic. They resigned me
- 2:48Speaker 1: for three years and that don't mean shit, right, No,
- 2:52Speaker 1: So then I got that call in December, and then
- 2:55Speaker 1: I called you. Yeah, And then while I was talking
- 2:57Speaker 1: to you, Doc was calling you and you clicked over.
- 3:00Speaker 1: You said you said oh, yes over bro, Yeah that
- 3:04Speaker 1: was you called me back and like, hey, I'm good
- 3:06Speaker 1: over here. You're talking about your right before I clicked
- 3:09Speaker 1: over to get the dudes day call keV is like, Yo,
- 3:12Speaker 1: it's over, bro, It's over. What the fuck? Yeah, I
- 3:17Speaker 1: mean look for me, you know, I mean I was
- 3:20Speaker 1: I was already kind of over doing radio the traditional way,
- 3:27Speaker 1: the way that we were doing it. Yes, and it's
- 3:29Speaker 1: probably safe to say that had been the case for
- 3:31Speaker 1: a while. Yeah. So for me, I looked at getting
- 3:36Speaker 1: let go by iHeart in Real ninety two three. First
- 3:38Speaker 1: of all, shout out to Doc Winner because I know
- 3:40Speaker 1: that it wasn't I mean he you know, it wasn't
- 3:42Speaker 1: like he was like, yo, you're fired. You yo, we
- 3:46Speaker 1: got we're letting go of some people because of the budgets,
- 3:48Speaker 1: this pandemic, pandemic. Yeah, you know, I got paid on
- 3:51Speaker 1: my severance. So and again like for me, it was
- 3:55Speaker 1: more it cleared my my time, clear my clear. You
- 4:02Speaker 1: know what what I realized during the pandemic, when you
- 4:05Speaker 1: and I were doing our show from Zoom, how much
- 4:08Speaker 1: other shit I could be doing if I had more
- 4:12Speaker 1: flexibility to not be physically at the radio station every day.
- 4:17Speaker 1: You know, I was busting plays, moving around. I was
- 4:19Speaker 1: in Mexico on Zoom with you doing the show. It
- 4:21Speaker 1: was like, Yo, this is kind of fire. This pandemic
- 4:23Speaker 1: shit kind of lit it. But it also it also
- 4:26Speaker 1: just kind of made me realize, like, man, I want
- 4:30Speaker 1: to you know, I'd already been tuning with the idea
- 4:33Speaker 1: of doing a syndicated show. I launched the podcast during
- 4:37Speaker 1: the pandemic in June, and it just kind of like, me,
- 4:40Speaker 1: getting let go is amazing. I'm not at zero, Like
- 4:45Speaker 1: not a single time did I ever feel some type
- 4:49Speaker 1: of way. No, because people get fired and they get
- 4:51Speaker 1: all fucking mad and it's like ego shit. I literally
- 4:54Speaker 1: was like, I gotta let go, and my girl started
- 4:57Speaker 1: crying and I was like, why are you crying? We're
- 5:00Speaker 1: about to turn the fuck up. Like this is great. Yeah,
- 5:03Speaker 1: you know, like I get I get to get paid
- 5:05Speaker 1: until for the next fucking four months, and now I
- 5:08Speaker 1: can just double down on what I was going to
- 5:10Speaker 1: try to do anyway. Yeah, so yeah, you know, and
- 5:12Speaker 1: I think like for anybody who's watching this, like, but
- 5:15Speaker 1: I think ahead, and I was gonna say, like, just know,
- 5:18Speaker 1: like if you're in radio or you're anywhere, like it's
- 5:22Speaker 1: not in your best interests if someone lets you go
- 5:27Speaker 1: because of financial purposes. If it's not personal, don't make
- 5:31Speaker 1: it personal. It should never be personal. You always say
- 5:33Speaker 1: that all the time, we say, your person. We've seen
- 5:36Speaker 1: a lot of people leave that current radio station and
- 5:38Speaker 1: they take things personal and then guess what happens? You
- 5:41Speaker 1: burn a bridge. Yeah, I don't. I don't believe in
- 5:44Speaker 1: taking anything personal. Three three rules I live by all
- 5:47Speaker 1: the time. Being deniable, bring value, don't take shit personal.
- 5:50Speaker 1: But that's all that aside. Though, even even even though
- 5:54Speaker 1: you didn't take it personal and you'd like I'm about
- 5:57Speaker 1: to turn, you looked at it as opportunity. You handled
- 6:01Speaker 1: it though, was fucking fire, Like I don't know, I
- 6:06Speaker 1: don't know that that that that doesn't happen, especially like
- 6:09Speaker 1: it's like, hey, no, like go do your ship. Yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 1: for me, it was like I just like I talk
- 6:13Speaker 1: with I talk with Doc, I talk with Ao, and
- 6:16Speaker 1: I was like, Yo, it's it's all good, Like it's
- 6:18Speaker 1: all good. You know. I released my statement and I'm
- 6:22Speaker 1: obviously rooting for you and Chuck. I love you guys.
- 6:25Speaker 1: You know you guys, this is meant to be homegoing
- 6:29Speaker 1: radio needs to be on every night in LA. This
- 6:31Speaker 1: is something you guys have worked forever for. And I'm like, yo,
- 6:36Speaker 1: this is great. Everyone wins here. I feel like I'm winning.
- 6:39Speaker 1: You know, a lot of people from the outside looking
- 6:41Speaker 1: ably go for I don't give a fuck. I don't
- 6:43Speaker 1: care what other people think. And then you guys get
- 6:45Speaker 1: to have your shot at Nights together. You guys are
- 6:48Speaker 1: you know, been friends for whatever long? Everyone won, Literally
- 6:53Speaker 1: everybody won, and you and I's relationship hasn't been affected. Nah,
- 6:57Speaker 1: Like you and I we know if you know you
- 6:59Speaker 1: know me and are locked in with each other. We
- 7:01Speaker 1: could not talk for two or three weeks a month,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and like as soon as we talk, we know what's up.
- 7:05Speaker 1: You know, There's never been any sort of weird energy
- 7:07Speaker 1: between me and head. I remember somebody said somebody said
- 7:10Speaker 1: on Twitter. They was like, man, want you guys once
- 7:13Speaker 1: you go on CAVS podcast and then and then you
- 7:16Speaker 1: just played me the thing he was some guy was like,
- 7:18Speaker 1: won't you go on KIVS podcast. I was like, I
- 7:20Speaker 1: probably will eventually. I thought it makes sense later like yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 1: I'll play. We had some guy from Ireland to Ireland. Man,
- 7:27Speaker 1: check this out. It's good to my mind A long time,
- 7:29Speaker 1: no hut, long time and chot hope all as well
- 7:31Speaker 1: and all the time alone as well, and just want
- 7:33Speaker 1: to say big ups to do that. Kep show is
- 7:35Speaker 1: fucking sick and really really enjoyed the twist episode and
- 7:39Speaker 1: would love to see head On at some point because
- 7:41Speaker 1: I just think you guys had such an incredible chemistry
- 7:44Speaker 1: and I think that would be a dual episode, but
- 7:46Speaker 1: I get stuck in the Soldier Boy episode. But yeah,
- 7:49Speaker 1: I can't wish for more and would love to see
- 7:52Speaker 1: head On smashing Hey what's his name? Shout out to
- 7:57Speaker 1: Martin Ocean, Mark Ocean and Ireland. Salute to you bro
- 8:01Speaker 1: here we are artists in Ireland. I believe here we
- 8:04Speaker 1: are goddamnit. Yeah, So I think, like, you know, whenever
- 8:07Speaker 1: something like this happens, you know, and you know it's crazy.
- 8:10Speaker 1: We've never talked about this publicly before. No, no, I
- 8:12Speaker 1: me and you talked on the phone about it a bunch,
- 8:14Speaker 1: I mean, But yeah, I think whenever something like this happens,
- 8:17Speaker 1: like it's always like we're just used to people being weirdo.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I'm used to for showby I'm blood listen and it's like, dude,
- 8:27Speaker 1: like there's never been no ego type of shit involved
- 8:29Speaker 1: between us, and when this shit happened, it was like yo, dope,
- 8:32Speaker 1: like yo, Chuck's on the night show. He deserves to
- 8:35Speaker 1: get a shot on the night show. You guys, this
- 8:37Speaker 1: is amazing. And I get to do what I wanted
- 8:40Speaker 1: to do anyway. Yeah, and be mobile and be flat
- 8:43Speaker 1: flex and you know, and so it's a win win,
- 8:46Speaker 1: and so I'm definitely I'm happy. I'm glad you guys
- 8:49Speaker 1: are killing us. So ya got the billboards going, and yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 1: I just talked to Amen. I heard y'all smashing up
- 8:54Speaker 1: them leakers over there. You know what I'm saying, I don't.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I don't know nothing about none of that. I know
- 9:01Speaker 1: that I know that our ratings are are good, They're solid. Yeah,
- 9:04Speaker 1: so you know, congratulations, But yeah, I think you know
- 9:08Speaker 1: that was one of the main things Joe. Everything good
- 9:09Speaker 1: with you in head? Yeah, you mean, well, people always
- 9:13Speaker 1: think that, like people always look at like, how I
- 9:16Speaker 1: guess what, you know what it is. It's people so
- 9:18Speaker 1: used to people being weird that they're not used to authenticity, right,
- 9:22Speaker 1: and so authenticity is weird to people now because it's
- 9:25Speaker 1: not that it's it's not normal to be that way. Yeah,
- 9:28Speaker 1: I think too. There's been recent radio situations that publicly
- 9:36Speaker 1: were ugly. Yeah, you know, you think back shout out
- 9:38Speaker 1: to our guy big boy, like when he left Power
- 9:40Speaker 1: it wasn't it wasn't pretty. It wasn't pretty, you know
- 9:42Speaker 1: what I mean. Like there's been situations where it's like
- 9:45Speaker 1: shout out to our guy Cruise is who who be
- 9:48Speaker 1: radio banging on that Twitter like show? But you know,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I get it, like for for I get both of
- 9:54Speaker 1: their situations because what happened to them was extremely personal. Yeah,
- 9:56Speaker 1: it's super personal. For me. It was never I've never
- 9:59Speaker 1: been a part of that. For me either, I'm like, dude,
- 10:01Speaker 1: like what am I going to get mad? Like I'm
- 10:03Speaker 1: chilling And it ain't like like I wasn't like making
- 10:06Speaker 1: money hand over fist over there, you know what I mean. So, yeah,
- 10:09Speaker 1: it's good to have you, have you on the show.
- 10:11Speaker 1: And so how's uh, how is everything in DJ had
- 10:14Speaker 1: world been? Man? I think honestly, it's been a blessing.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I've had a chance to you know, what's crazy is
- 10:21Speaker 1: this is and this is I don't think I've ever
- 10:23Speaker 1: said this before publicly either, but I remember thinking one
- 10:26Speaker 1: time during the pandemic when we was doing our show,
- 10:28Speaker 1: right and this is like right when George Floyd happened
- 10:31Speaker 1: and the whole shit and so and I remember having
- 10:34Speaker 1: a selfish moment because I was thinking, like, damn, I
- 10:37Speaker 1: remember getting one and again, Me and you would always
- 10:39Speaker 1: talk about it in the studio, like, and the reason
- 10:41Speaker 1: we wanted to get into radio is to do dope interviews,
- 10:43Speaker 1: create dope content, create dope hip hop moments, right whatever,
- 10:46Speaker 1: And I remember the fun part of it. So I
- 10:50Speaker 1: remember coming up here and this is when Mustard cracked
- 10:52Speaker 1: off twenty twelve to twenty fourteen. It was just La
- 10:56Speaker 1: was the sound and whooah, right, and that was the
- 10:59Speaker 1: reason why I want to do it and not get
- 11:01Speaker 1: and then and the selfishness in me was like, damn,
- 11:04Speaker 1: but I get race, riots, police brutality, Donald Trump, Oh yeah,
- 11:09Speaker 1: that was how you gonna lie. Man. Being on the
- 11:11Speaker 1: air during that time, the pandemic on Zoom was very rough,
- 11:14Speaker 1: the pandemic COVID nineteen. So we're trying to do like
- 11:17Speaker 1: an actual show over Zoom about all this wild ass
- 11:22Speaker 1: shit like LA's on fire, bro, and it's like, I
- 11:25Speaker 1: mean riots across the country, no, I'm sorry, across the world, right. Yeah.
- 11:30Speaker 1: The way we had to do the show was probably
- 11:32Speaker 1: my least favorite part of my radio career, not that
- 11:35Speaker 1: we had to talk about that stuff, but just the
- 11:37Speaker 1: fact that we had to do it from our house
- 11:38Speaker 1: and try to make it sounds like it was that
- 11:41Speaker 1: shit sucked. And so I remember thinking to myself, like, damn,
- 11:44Speaker 1: how'd I get dealt this hand? As I want to
- 11:46Speaker 1: be in the other, you know, like having fun and shit.
- 11:50Speaker 1: But then I started thinking about it, Oh, it's not
- 11:52Speaker 1: about me, And so once I understood it's not about me,
- 11:54Speaker 1: everything since then has been a blessing. Like I look
- 11:57Speaker 1: at my life now is a complete blessing. Everything that
- 12:00Speaker 1: I'm doing. Uh, I know what's going on with the
- 12:04Speaker 1: fucking Netflix show Rhythm. I know that the they renounced
- 12:07Speaker 1: season two is gonna happen, and then obviously the pandemic
- 12:10Speaker 1: struck Rhythm and Flow season two. I don't have any
- 12:13Speaker 1: official updates. I do know that you can go on
- 12:15Speaker 1: the website. Can you submit your I believe they are
- 12:19Speaker 1: still accepting uh, what do you call it? Auditions? Obviously
- 12:23Speaker 1: the pandemic got in the way of that happening sooner. Yeah,
- 12:26Speaker 1: I remember that we were we were supposed to do something,
- 12:29Speaker 1: and then obviously the COVID nineteen shut everything down. It
- 12:31Speaker 1: was everything was shut down. The Marvel Cinemata universe was
- 12:34Speaker 1: shut down. Nothing stops that. So if it was able
- 12:36Speaker 1: to stop the NBA and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, everybody
- 12:39Speaker 1: else got a fit for themselves. That's did you watch
- 12:43Speaker 1: One Division? Of course, I'm caught up on everything. What
- 12:46Speaker 1: do you think of One Division? I thought wand Division
- 12:48Speaker 1: was good. I just I barely it was slow. I
- 12:51Speaker 1: barely just started watching it and I barely just got
- 12:53Speaker 1: to episode five started picking up a little bit. Yeah,
- 12:56Speaker 1: because I'm like, man, what's going on? When watching it?
- 13:00Speaker 1: If you not, if you're not in in, you kind
- 13:02Speaker 1: of like, what the fuck is going on? But then
- 13:04Speaker 1: it starts to like peel back and peel back, and
- 13:06Speaker 1: then later on it gets good. But it's slow. It's
- 13:09Speaker 1: a slow burn. It's not as good Falcon in the
- 13:11Speaker 1: Winter Soldier, it's fire. I gotta tap in. That ship
- 13:14Speaker 1: is fire. And they just announced Black Panther. My god,
- 13:21Speaker 1: shout to Ryan Coogler shot the Archie. Who do we
- 13:23Speaker 1: think is gonna? I have my own theories. We were
- 13:27Speaker 1: talking they should just give it up to Michael B.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Jordan low Ky. I have been I've heard rumors this
- 13:33Speaker 1: is not official, and I haven't heard this many insiders.
- 13:35Speaker 1: This is YouTube theory that Michael B. Jordan will be
- 13:39Speaker 1: coming back, and I the theory is that he's going
- 13:43Speaker 1: to take on the mantle or sure he is, which
- 13:45Speaker 1: is because he was like a very endearing, loving, like
- 13:49Speaker 1: bad guy. People fucked with Jordan. Yeah, he's By the way,
- 13:53Speaker 1: Michael B. Jordan, the most overrated actor that motherfucker can
- 13:57Speaker 1: is not a good actor. He's he's he's a nice
- 13:59Speaker 1: looking got to look at. He plays great characters, but
- 14:02Speaker 1: he is not a great It's hard for me to
- 14:05Speaker 1: watch Michael Jordan act. I'm not even gonna lie. Really,
- 14:08Speaker 1: I don't think he's He's not bad. He's not bad,
- 14:10Speaker 1: but he's not good. I didn't say that. I'm saying
- 14:12Speaker 1: he's not bad at all. He's kind of like, uh nah,
- 14:16Speaker 1: you know what, you gotta be good to not be
- 14:18Speaker 1: bad at acting. I'm trying to think of a rapper.
- 14:19Speaker 1: We can think about that, think about rap, think about
- 14:22Speaker 1: hip hop. Right, you gotta be somewhat good to not
- 14:24Speaker 1: be bad. So if you're saying that Michael B. Jordan
- 14:29Speaker 1: is not bad, then then he has to have some
- 14:32Speaker 1: sort of some sort of skill. Yeah, he's he's likable.
- 14:38Speaker 1: He's got appeal almost like you think of The Rock
- 14:41Speaker 1: early on, early on acting, you would watch the Rock
- 14:44Speaker 1: movies because the Rock was in him. Yes, And I
- 14:46Speaker 1: think Michael B. Jordan is there now where he's like
- 14:48Speaker 1: such a star. Women love him and he's something about
- 14:51Speaker 1: the movie. The Rock was also playing certain type of role.
- 14:54Speaker 1: He just watched it. I just watched the new Michael B.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Jordan movie on Amazon and that shit was ass Juice.
- 14:58Speaker 1: But I watched it because he was in it. You
- 15:00Speaker 1: didn't like the movie. I thought it was fucking to
- 15:02Speaker 1: mid Man with lots of seeds in it. The acting
- 15:04Speaker 1: was kind of meaning, and then they kill Lauren London
- 15:07Speaker 1: like off the rip. I was like, damn, well, I
- 15:09Speaker 1: mean the Fells. You haven't watched it, you know. Yeah.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I was like, damn, it's kind of quiet. I thought
- 15:17Speaker 1: it was cool. But I'm a fan of those. That's
- 15:19Speaker 1: how you'll play Call of Duty a lot. So I
- 15:21Speaker 1: like that kind of shit. Yeah. So, uh. You you
- 15:24Speaker 1: say one of the things you live by is be undeniable.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Be undeniable, which is something you've always said. What do
- 15:29Speaker 1: you mean by that? I mean by being undeniable and
- 15:32Speaker 1: your talent, your skill set, your craft, whatever it is
- 15:34Speaker 1: that you do, you gotta be under. You gotta make people.
- 15:37Speaker 1: The secret sauce that I believe one of the secret
- 15:39Speaker 1: sauces to my success is I just didn't go away.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Same with you. Right, If you just stay the course
- 15:46Speaker 1: and you don't you and you continually hone in on
- 15:48Speaker 1: your craft, I feel like you're gonna win. You don't
- 15:50Speaker 1: have to be the best, like what you just said
- 15:52Speaker 1: about Michael B. Jordan, Right, if you undeniably are diligent,
- 15:56Speaker 1: or if you're under like if did your girl fuck
- 15:57Speaker 1: with you the first time she met you? Of course not,
- 16:00Speaker 1: that's what I'm talking about. But you are undeniably diligent,
- 16:02Speaker 1: and now you're married. That's facts. That's it. Be undeniable,
- 16:07Speaker 1: bring value, don't take your person. Other thing that you're
- 16:09Speaker 1: big on is and I'm big on as well, is
- 16:11Speaker 1: the entitlement. Thing. I hate entitlement. Yeah, it's crazy because
- 16:15Speaker 1: especially in this business now, man, it's the worst. These artists.
- 16:18Speaker 1: This is something that I remember talking to I think
- 16:21Speaker 1: just Blaze was talking about this on Clubhouse one day,
- 16:24Speaker 1: and how people have direct access to all these people
- 16:28Speaker 1: that you would never in life have access to, and
- 16:30Speaker 1: they just feel entitled to your time or oh, I'm
- 16:33Speaker 1: gonna send you this record right, Like what does that
- 16:34Speaker 1: mean you're gonna say? So? When I tell artists like,
- 16:36Speaker 1: don't be entitled, it's like you wouldn't walk up to
- 16:39Speaker 1: a girl and just say give me some pussy, you
- 16:41Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. That's what you say to a
- 16:42Speaker 1: DJ when you just walk up and be like, here,
- 16:44Speaker 1: it's my song, play it right, like you didn't try
- 16:47Speaker 1: to like build with me first, Like yeah, that's how
- 16:50Speaker 1: I feel like that. That that's entitlement and that I
- 16:52Speaker 1: hate that shit. It's like when people DM you like, man,
- 16:54Speaker 1: you ain't fucking with me? keV, Like yo, here, bro,
- 16:57Speaker 1: I don't even know who the fuck you are? Bro Yo,
- 16:59Speaker 1: you know yo? The worst part is when someone hits
- 17:01Speaker 1: you with that in your DMS and they don't even
- 17:03Speaker 1: follow you, Like fam, you don't even follow me, Yo,
- 17:10Speaker 1: you don't even fuck with me enough to follow me,
- 17:12Speaker 1: and you're gonna hit me up trying to get on
- 17:13Speaker 1: my podcast or go do a freezing Who the fuck
- 17:15Speaker 1: are you? I remember somebody went on a campaign. I'm
- 17:18Speaker 1: not going to talk about who it is here, but
- 17:20Speaker 1: it's somebody in La went on a campaign about how
- 17:22Speaker 1: DJ Head don't fuck with him. I don't remember him, Bro,
- 17:26Speaker 1: I don't remember meeting this man ever. Right, So he
- 17:28Speaker 1: went on a whole campaign and was tweeting DMN like
- 17:31Speaker 1: the whole stories, putting stories up at me and everything.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I think I saw that, and so I ended up
- 17:36Speaker 1: hitting up one of my big homies and had me
- 17:37Speaker 1: get in touch with him directly and got on the
- 17:39Speaker 1: phone with him, like, yo, bro, what's the problem, Like,
- 17:41Speaker 1: I don't remember you, Like this is how this business
- 17:44Speaker 1: actually works. It's also not your job to know everyone, Bro,
- 17:47Speaker 1: I don't know you, That's what I'm saying. So it
- 17:50Speaker 1: was just one of them type of things where like
- 17:51Speaker 1: I can't do that kind of thing off the time,
- 17:53Speaker 1: but I felt like I wanted to. I felt like
- 17:55Speaker 1: it was a teachable moment, and in those moments, I'll
- 17:57Speaker 1: take the time to educate. Now, considering like your position
- 18:00Speaker 1: in LA is it, it's obviously more of a gift
- 18:05Speaker 1: than a curse, But there has to be some downside
- 18:07Speaker 1: to being the guy who's mister West Coast to where
- 18:10Speaker 1: almost I'm assuming most LA rappers like I go through
- 18:14Speaker 1: this in Arizona, where like motherfuckers will like take it
- 18:16Speaker 1: personal that I don't know who they are and or
- 18:21Speaker 1: openly support their music, and a lot of times it's
- 18:25Speaker 1: I just don't like your music, which is okay, that's fine, right,
- 18:30Speaker 1: Like I'm allowed to not like you might be a
- 18:32Speaker 1: good dude and I'm but just because I'm not fucking
- 18:35Speaker 1: with your shit, don't mean like I don't fuck with you.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I don't know you. That probably happens a lot with you.
- 18:40Speaker 1: It happens. And what I try to do is defuse
- 18:43Speaker 1: the situation because I can't my putt. Like I was
- 18:47Speaker 1: talking to Whack about this one day, right, and he
- 18:49Speaker 1: gave me some real bars about like wa Whack. People
- 18:52Speaker 1: think he crazy. He not wack smart, smartest he he's
- 18:54Speaker 1: so intellectually inclined facts so anyway, crazy but smart No,
- 18:59Speaker 1: definitely nuts, yeah nuts, but he's smart as fuck. But
- 19:02Speaker 1: he's smart. So he was telling me like different things.
- 19:04Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, I don't worry about this, do this,
- 19:06Speaker 1: do this, And I was thinking about he said, you
- 19:07Speaker 1: know what, it's good that you are level headed because
- 19:10Speaker 1: you can misuse your influence and your power for negativity.
- 19:14Speaker 1: But you don't, you know you really, So what I
- 19:16Speaker 1: do is in that scenario, I try to take the
- 19:18Speaker 1: time and defuse and de escalate the situation because I
- 19:21Speaker 1: know that I'm so close to so many different people
- 19:24Speaker 1: that it can go bad real fast, and the entitlement
- 19:27Speaker 1: comes into play because they, like you said, they think
- 19:30Speaker 1: that I'm supposed to know them or remember them from
- 19:32Speaker 1: ten years ago or whatever the case. And it's not
- 19:35Speaker 1: even personal. I don't remember what shit I did yesterday.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I hit you today to remember, like, oh, I'm coming
- 19:41Speaker 1: here today, you know what I'm saying, Like, I don't
- 19:43Speaker 1: remember shit. So when you say, like the Arizona shit
- 19:46Speaker 1: and then also the LA shit, I think it's a
- 19:48Speaker 1: little different though, because our politics is fucked. Oh yeah
- 19:51Speaker 1: yah yeah. Here it's all Yo, there's the gang shit,
- 19:54Speaker 1: there's the big Homi shit, there's bro Our politics shit
- 19:58Speaker 1: is different and me look like there's not like like
- 20:01Speaker 1: if we've been candid, there's not a lot of black
- 20:03Speaker 1: people in our medium in LA. Right, So it's me,
- 20:07Speaker 1: big boy. You got Nick chatting and Chuck pretty much
- 20:11Speaker 1: to make up the bulk of it, right, Yeah, I'm
- 20:14Speaker 1: the most accessible one facts, so so me being accessible
- 20:19Speaker 1: in that way, it's like everybody feels entitled to, Oh,
- 20:22Speaker 1: come to the studio or you you so, and so
- 20:24Speaker 1: it's a little homie're gonna play, you're gonna look out
- 20:26Speaker 1: for this or do that, and it's like, bro, like,
- 20:28Speaker 1: it don't work like that. And so trying to explain
- 20:30Speaker 1: the industry aside from the politics is a complete headache.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Oh it's the worst, yo, Man, play my shit on
- 20:37Speaker 1: the radio, like, Bro, that ain't how this shit works. Bro.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Like fam you got eleven hundred followers. The last thing
- 20:43Speaker 1: you need to worry about is getting you shit plaed
- 20:44Speaker 1: on the radio. You've worried about getting anyone to care
- 20:47Speaker 1: about you first, Bro, go to the DSPs. Bro, get
- 20:49Speaker 1: your shit pop and get your numbers up, and then
- 20:51Speaker 1: everybody else will follow suit. You mentioned the politics thing,
- 20:57Speaker 1: the new wave of LA rappers that you've been behind
- 21:01Speaker 1: from you know, to starve, the rouccies and all these guys.
- 21:04Speaker 1: It seems as if the politics don't play into as
- 21:07Speaker 1: much as the older generation. With a lot of these
- 21:10Speaker 1: younger kids are working together, they don't do it. Does
- 21:12Speaker 1: It's still some, but it's amongst them, so it doesn't
- 21:15Speaker 1: reach the media because it's still amongst that. You'll see
- 21:18Speaker 1: like one take Jay working, it feels like most people, Yeah,
- 21:22Speaker 1: the Sceni, yeah, the scene, Okay, the senior for sure.
- 21:25Speaker 1: They all because they all went to school together, they
- 21:26Speaker 1: all played sports together, et cetera. So like and and
- 21:29Speaker 1: low key most of them shout out to t K
- 21:30Speaker 1: barn because that got everybody side. Shout out to k
- 21:33Speaker 1: our Barons is crazy, but they what. I remember talking
- 21:37Speaker 1: to Kaln about this ship, and he was saying that
- 21:41Speaker 1: they just learned from the mistakes of the people that
- 21:43Speaker 1: came before them, and it's like, oh, well, if we
- 21:45Speaker 1: could do this shit together, Like Rouccie and Chike are
- 21:48Speaker 1: known for doing shit together, right, so you might see
- 21:51Speaker 1: an AZ show, but then you might see Roochie pull up.
- 21:53Speaker 1: You gonna see the one tape boys there or vice versa.
- 21:56Speaker 1: And I think that that's a beautiful thing. But it
- 21:59Speaker 1: gets a little little tricky when you start involving the
- 22:02Speaker 1: homies and hang around and the entourages and shit like that.
- 22:06Speaker 1: But for the most part, I really commend the newer
- 22:09Speaker 1: generation for being able to do that and and and
- 22:11Speaker 1: and also a big big shout out to Draco too.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I really, I really like what Draco the Ruler has
- 22:18Speaker 1: done because he came home and immediately start giving verses
- 22:21Speaker 1: to everybody who would take him, And I felt like
- 22:23Speaker 1: that was a big move, especially being in his situation
- 22:26Speaker 1: with the Drake Record, Like he don't necessarily have to
- 22:28Speaker 1: do that. But a lot of those people that he
- 22:30Speaker 1: came and was like he didn't bless him because I
- 22:32Speaker 1: don't want to say like he's demeaning them, but I
- 22:34Speaker 1: felt like what he was doing, he made it his
- 22:36Speaker 1: his point to come home and is like, no, I'm
- 22:38Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna give this shit away to everybody who wanted.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Is it safe to say he's the hottest rapper in
- 22:44Speaker 1: LA and Blast the hottest artist in La? This gets tricky?
- 22:51Speaker 1: Uh now, no, no, no, no, no, listen, I'm not
- 22:54Speaker 1: gonna say that because guess what if Roddy Richard. I'm
- 22:56Speaker 1: not excluding a global superstar like Roddy Okay, and excluding
- 23:01Speaker 1: Kendrick Lamar and excluding all I mean, bunch, I'm talking
- 23:05Speaker 1: about hot in the streets of LA. I mean, you
- 23:07Speaker 1: got a lot of people that's hot in the street. No,
- 23:09Speaker 1: I know, But is anybody hotter than Draco? I don't know.
- 23:12Speaker 1: I'm not in the streets independently. Got the Drake feature.
- 23:16Speaker 1: That's true cleared ship he got that. Yeah, but that's
- 23:20Speaker 1: that's that's that's also Drake being Drake. Yeah, like, oh,
- 23:24Speaker 1: this guy's name is Draco. I mean I think he
- 23:26Speaker 1: fucks with I mean Draco's music is No. I'm saying,
- 23:28Speaker 1: Drake is one of the smartest people to ever be
- 23:30Speaker 1: in so I understand the way he moves and what
- 23:33Speaker 1: he does and why he does it. So I'm not
- 23:35Speaker 1: going to say that that's one hundred percent because of
- 23:38Speaker 1: the Drake shit, because the Drake knows what he's doing.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Drake knows who to tapping, he knows what he's doing. Like,
- 23:43Speaker 1: that's not by accident. Drake don't do anything by accident.
- 23:47Speaker 1: I don't know who's the hottest. But if I if
- 23:49Speaker 1: I'm a bet my money on people, it's it's a
- 23:51Speaker 1: few people. I bet for sure. Blast are you were
- 23:55Speaker 1: you were the first guy that you did? What what
- 23:57Speaker 1: year did you try to sign? Blast was a twenty eighteen,
- 23:58Speaker 1: twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen. I think some shit like that.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Shout out to blast Man. Blast is the guy, Bro,
- 24:07Speaker 1: He's the guy. He's the guy. Yeah, you know, I
- 24:09Speaker 1: gotta I got a text from from from homie terrorist
- 24:12Speaker 1: Martin and he said, you were right, Blast is the one,
- 24:15Speaker 1: and I was like, I know, because it's like, it's
- 24:19Speaker 1: one thing to get to get the streets. It's one
- 24:21Speaker 1: thing to be hot in the industry. But when you
- 24:23Speaker 1: get musicians to be like, oh this guy is fucking fired,
- 24:26Speaker 1: that's that's a different level to me. Yeah, I think, uh,
- 24:29Speaker 1: you know, the LAC and this seems like it's in
- 24:31Speaker 1: a as good of a place as it's been. I
- 24:34Speaker 1: would like to see more integration though, meaning nationally. Oh yeah,
- 24:38Speaker 1: I would like to see like, I know, sweet he's
- 24:40Speaker 1: from California, but she she's comes off like a national artist.
- 24:44Speaker 1: So for her to have Drake on her ship, you know,
- 24:46Speaker 1: I thought that was kind of dope. I like to see,
- 24:48Speaker 1: like I love how Davies comes and taps in with
- 24:50Speaker 1: people out here, Like I want to see more of
- 24:52Speaker 1: that type of ship. Yeah, now Dave pulls up and
- 24:55Speaker 1: I want to see like Rod Wave like fuck with
- 24:57Speaker 1: like one take Jay right or or some ship like
- 25:00Speaker 1: you more ship like that. I mean shout out to Quebo.
- 25:02Speaker 1: You did the Blue Bucks Clan record. Yeah, really, you
- 25:07Speaker 1: know who I really really fuck with and not from
- 25:09Speaker 1: LA but I love freddo bang Bro, I remember you
- 25:12Speaker 1: put me up on Fredo Like, I love fred He's
- 25:14Speaker 1: a good kid man, He's a good dude. Yeah. The
- 25:17Speaker 1: top record is crazy. He caught one finally, like a
- 25:20Speaker 1: like a radio round real record. I d K got
- 25:23Speaker 1: a fire ass on that ship. I had to get
- 25:26Speaker 1: him on the phone, like, Bro, you actually have a
- 25:28Speaker 1: record that's playable. Yeah, i DK is going crazy. Uh yeah,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I think that. But I do think that the LA
- 25:34Speaker 1: scene it feels just like, you know, because I think
- 25:37Speaker 1: back in the day when you were coming up with
- 25:39Speaker 1: Glasses a man, there was an extreme disdain towards what
- 25:46Speaker 1: the you know. Back then you had to get the
- 25:48Speaker 1: dra Co sign or the whoever co signed right unless
- 25:51Speaker 1: you were the game right because the game was kind
- 25:54Speaker 1: of just the face of LA hip hop nationally. Not
- 25:57Speaker 1: saying that in the streets, Jay Rock and Glasses and
- 25:59Speaker 1: nip they weren't doing their thing. But I remember having
- 26:01Speaker 1: conversations with Nipsey even like interviewing him and Ship where
- 26:05Speaker 1: he was not happy with Doctor Dre. A lot of
- 26:09Speaker 1: people weren't yeh, but that but that I think that's
- 26:11Speaker 1: entitlment though, because I had that conversation with Glasses recently
- 26:14Speaker 1: because the whole like New West movement that we established
- 26:17Speaker 1: coming up, right, and that's like Glasses, Bishop Lamont, all
- 26:20Speaker 1: of everybody crooked, like it was a bunch of people
- 26:22Speaker 1: that was a part of that movement. Everybody was coming
- 26:24Speaker 1: up had a disdain for the Old Guard, the Cube,
- 26:27Speaker 1: the Dre Snoke, et cetera. But I remember having that
- 26:31Speaker 1: conversation with g about it, and he was saying that
- 26:33Speaker 1: it was a sense of entitlement because he was like,
- 26:35Speaker 1: they're not fucking with us, but technically we never asked
- 26:39Speaker 1: him for anything. They just thought that they should be
- 26:41Speaker 1: paying attention just like hey, like you said, like you
- 26:45Speaker 1: if they if no one's asking, why is it assumed
- 26:50Speaker 1: that they got to fuck with you? Yeah? And then
- 26:53Speaker 1: I remember, I remember Glasses we went to a video shoot.
- 26:57Speaker 1: It was I think it was a video shoot for
- 26:58Speaker 1: forty and we went to the video shooting him having
- 27:02Speaker 1: a conversation with Snoop in his trailer and Snoop was like,
- 27:05Speaker 1: you know, that's my bad, Like we wasn't playing team ball,
- 27:08Speaker 1: but I'm gonna fix that. And then ever since then,
- 27:10Speaker 1: everybody's been good. That's I mean, it feels it feels
- 27:13Speaker 1: good right now. I love I love Snoop too. I
- 27:16Speaker 1: feel like what Snoop does is unmatched in hip hop.
- 27:19Speaker 1: I think Snoop Dogg is probably the most famous rapper ever,
- 27:25Speaker 1: of course he is. Yeah, I don't think that. It's
- 27:28Speaker 1: not even close. And I don't even I don't think
- 27:29Speaker 1: it's close. I don't even think Drake is close to
- 27:31Speaker 1: that level of fame. No, Like, everyone knows who Snoop
- 27:34Speaker 1: Dogg is. Everybody Grandma's know who Snoop is. He's a
- 27:38Speaker 1: fucking cultural icon. Like he doesn't have to have any
- 27:40Speaker 1: more music ever, ever, and he's getting bags doing just
- 27:43Speaker 1: being Snoop, just being Snoop, Snoop Snoop. I think Snoop
- 27:48Speaker 1: is that triller yo. By the way, I just gotta
- 27:50Speaker 1: say love their performance. The Sweety performance was the worst
- 27:54Speaker 1: thing I've ever seen on TV. I ain't see it.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Oh my god, I ain't see it. That shit was horrible.
- 28:03Speaker 1: What what's so bad about it? She lip sync the
- 28:05Speaker 1: whole thing and then she it was like all choreography
- 28:09Speaker 1: and it was like she don't know how to dance.
- 28:12Speaker 1: That's crazy. Her performance at BT was fire. I've seen
- 28:16Speaker 1: her do her thing. Yeah, whatever happened at Triller, maybe
- 28:19Speaker 1: she was maybe she had strap throat or something. Oh
- 28:22Speaker 1: that shit was rough. Shout out to Sweetie anyway, what
- 28:27Speaker 1: were you saying? We're talking about the Snoop thing now.
- 28:28Speaker 1: I just feel like Snoop is just what he does,
- 28:31Speaker 1: even embracing the youth, Like I feel like him, him
- 28:33Speaker 1: and he forty do an amazing job and embracing they
- 28:35Speaker 1: for sure the youth, and I think that that's been
- 28:37Speaker 1: pivotal in their longevity. I think it's very hard to say.
- 28:41Speaker 1: The other thing, too, is I think if you're snooping
- 28:42Speaker 1: your E forty, you're probably very Who the fuck is
- 28:47Speaker 1: gonna say no to that? Nobody? Like if E forty
- 28:51Speaker 1: calls you and it's like, yo, get on my album,
- 28:53Speaker 1: you're not gonna say no because there you look crazy.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I've heard I've heard the story of a rapper who
- 28:58Speaker 1: blew a shot with forty, like like just did not
- 29:01Speaker 1: get in the verse back or some shit like like
- 29:03Speaker 1: what are you doing? Says no like maybe Drake nah,
- 29:07Speaker 1: he might nah, but nah, Drake not turning down. So
- 29:12Speaker 1: you think Drake could say no to Snoop or forty?
- 29:15Speaker 1: Maybe fuck no, Drake could be out of his rabbit ass.
- 29:18Speaker 1: I'll tell him then E forty need to get that
- 29:20Speaker 1: Drake verse. If you know an he's gonna say no,
- 29:25Speaker 1: you might as well get Drake not saying no to
- 29:27Speaker 1: E forty or Snoop Dogg Hope. I mean, I mean shit,
- 29:30Speaker 1: howbut he be the only one. Maybe maybe Hove or
- 29:34Speaker 1: I'm not saying no, one hundred three thousand might say no. Yeah,
- 29:37Speaker 1: but that's different. Three Stacks don't rap. Yeah, he don't
- 29:42Speaker 1: even rap. Like okay, so you're uh this the jay
- 29:50Speaker 1: Z and Nipsey song that came out? Oh man, so
- 29:54Speaker 1: you're you have co production credit on that song? Yes?
- 29:56Speaker 1: We So how did that happen? I was in the studio,
- 29:59Speaker 1: like I'm always in the studio working with Rants Mars
- 30:03Speaker 1: fifteen hundred or nothing, and Rants was like, Yo, we
- 30:05Speaker 1: got this record, Like you know what you want to do?
- 30:08Speaker 1: I want you to do some shit on it. I'm like,
- 30:09Speaker 1: what you want me to do? Like just do your
- 30:11Speaker 1: DJ head shit whatever that means. So I was like,
- 30:15Speaker 1: all right, So he plays me the song and he's
- 30:17Speaker 1: playing me the Nipsey vocals over the beat, and I'm like,
- 30:20Speaker 1: oh's nip record? Like fuck? Yeah, let's do it. I
- 30:23Speaker 1: didn't know nothing about whole at that time. They were like,
- 30:25Speaker 1: we're doing something really special with the record. They just
- 30:27Speaker 1: couldn't tell me. So he's like, look, just just do
- 30:30Speaker 1: some cuts on the song, you know, do some ins
- 30:33Speaker 1: and out, some little scratches whatever. I'm like, all right,
- 30:35Speaker 1: bet so I did. I actually recorded it, and then
- 30:39Speaker 1: I turned it in and I ain't I didn't think
- 30:42Speaker 1: none of it. I was like, oh, they must not
- 30:44Speaker 1: have used it. I didn't know that it was a
- 30:45Speaker 1: bigger play like later on, you know what I'm saying. Obviously,
- 30:49Speaker 1: that's how the music business worked. So when they were
- 30:51Speaker 1: when it came time to release the record, it was like, oh,
- 30:55Speaker 1: this is the record. And then once it came obviously
- 30:58Speaker 1: I had it early and shit like that. But if
- 31:01Speaker 1: we couldn't talk about it because it was like a
- 31:03Speaker 1: part of a rollout, I'm like, damn, this is crazy.
- 31:05Speaker 1: But I didn't know that they were going to actually
- 31:07Speaker 1: give me credit on the song, like you know how,
- 31:10Speaker 1: like you'll produce some right right right, but you might
- 31:11Speaker 1: not get you might not get visual credit on the
- 31:14Speaker 1: on the on the record. So that was like a
- 31:17Speaker 1: big deal for me. That was a huge for me,
- 31:20Speaker 1: especially seeing like jay Z Nipsey and then I'm like
- 31:24Speaker 1: right there, that shit was crazy. So when the song
- 31:27Speaker 1: came as comes out right, shit, So you know when
- 31:34Speaker 1: we were doing the night show together, yes, uh, we
- 31:38Speaker 1: really didn't care to have songs first. No, that's not
- 31:45Speaker 1: my game. It just really like no one cares. Yeah,
- 31:49Speaker 1: everybody gets the record at nine pm, like it's it's
- 31:52Speaker 1: uh not two thousand and nine sure or even twenty
- 31:56Speaker 1: and thirteen. It's like, yo, fam Like now, like you said,
- 32:02Speaker 1: you had the record for a long time, you know,
- 32:04Speaker 1: I mean you got yeah, you gets in the studio right,
- 32:07Speaker 1: this is before the whole vocals. So the La Leakers
- 32:14Speaker 1: shout out to Justin, shout out to sour Milk, Sour Milk. Well,
- 32:21Speaker 1: we were you talking about when we were doing the
- 32:22Speaker 1: show together. Are you talking about recently? I'm talk about recently,
- 32:26Speaker 1: just after you and I were not on the air.
- 32:27Speaker 1: This is this is uh, this is recently recently when
- 32:30Speaker 1: this song came out, right, what was this December January?
- 32:33Speaker 1: When did the record? I remember, like I said, I
- 32:35Speaker 1: have a bad memory. So the Leakers get the song
- 32:41Speaker 1: and they're going crazy before nine o'clock obviously, right, which
- 32:47Speaker 1: has happened a lot. Yeah, cool Sour Milk goes on
- 32:52Speaker 1: Twitter h and says, essentially, does anybody want to tell
- 32:59Speaker 1: them that we have? We've been going crazy on this
- 33:02Speaker 1: however long? I don't remember the specifics of the two Well,
- 33:05Speaker 1: I tweeted. I tweeted first, and I said, I'm playing
- 33:09Speaker 1: this at nine o'clock, right, and then he retweeted you this. Yeah,
- 33:13Speaker 1: it was just yeah, you said, Yo, we're going crazy
- 33:14Speaker 1: at nine permitted show. Right, you're promoting your show, which
- 33:17Speaker 1: is what you should do. You weren't saying anything about anybody.
- 33:20Speaker 1: I don't ever do that, right. He retweets it and
- 33:24Speaker 1: pretty much says, does anyone want to tell I don't remember,
- 33:28Speaker 1: but we've been going crazy on this the last two
- 33:30Speaker 1: hours about I know that it got interesting because I
- 33:40Speaker 1: don't remember at what point in time you replied with
- 33:47Speaker 1: the credentials of the song that they were playing and
- 33:51Speaker 1: you have publishing on that you produced, and you thank
- 33:54Speaker 1: them for playing it for you because you have production
- 33:58Speaker 1: credit on the song. Now, from a strict perspective of
- 34:04Speaker 1: someone who's just on Twitter, and I funk with those guys.
- 34:10Speaker 1: You know they're cool, Like I got no problems with them.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Dudes like, you know, me and Justin are cool. You know.
- 34:16Speaker 1: I just saw Justin around the Grammys and we you know,
- 34:19Speaker 1: we're cool. But I'll be damned if I have never
- 34:24Speaker 1: seen anyone take a worst l from a radio perspective
- 34:31Speaker 1: on social media than that. That was rough. And then
- 34:38Speaker 1: everyone just like it went crazy. I didn't expect. I
- 34:45Speaker 1: didn't know. And then and then Letty chimed in. She
- 34:48Speaker 1: you know, obviously she's married to Nipsey's uh manager, shout
- 34:52Speaker 1: to Jorge George uh and and and and put her
- 34:56Speaker 1: two cents in on it about hey, it just it
- 34:59Speaker 1: got out of hand. And and I don't mean like
- 35:02Speaker 1: out of hand, like you didn't. You just literally was
- 35:05Speaker 1: on some like, hey, thanks for supporting. By the way,
- 35:09Speaker 1: you might want to check the credentials on that record
- 35:11Speaker 1: you had it. So what happened with that? That's that's
- 35:17Speaker 1: exactly how we had them back and forth. And then
- 35:20Speaker 1: he he said something it got kind of like it
- 35:22Speaker 1: started to get to me. It started to get aggressive
- 35:26Speaker 1: on his behalf, not on your behalf. So I was
- 35:29Speaker 1: just like, it's not in your nature. No, I can't
- 35:31Speaker 1: play like that. This ship is like again. People take
- 35:34Speaker 1: this radio shit so serious. It's like, fam, this is
- 35:37Speaker 1: for anyone, not not for anyone in particular. You work
- 35:41Speaker 1: for a company that owns a brand that you don't own. Listen, man,
- 35:47Speaker 1: calm down. I just what I did was I just
- 35:50Speaker 1: I got swung on and I swung back. You swung back,
- 35:53Speaker 1: all right, you swung back. Then you pulled up at
- 35:57Speaker 1: their mama's house and the money and Carlo, you rolled
- 36:01Speaker 1: the window down and put a oozie out and lit
- 36:02Speaker 1: that whole bitch up. That's just what I'm I was
- 36:05Speaker 1: taught that you don't start that, you finish it. That's
- 36:07Speaker 1: what my grandma only said. That's my family, that's how
- 36:09Speaker 1: we get out. So I don't ever start anything. I
- 36:12Speaker 1: don't talk tough, I don't aggressive, I don't even sub people.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I'll just promote my show. Yes, So the subliminal thing,
- 36:19Speaker 1: and that's my thing is like I've been a part
- 36:22Speaker 1: of radio beefs in the past, but I just kind
- 36:27Speaker 1: of started to realize, like, hey, it's stupid as fuck
- 36:32Speaker 1: because we're gonna have to see each other. And the
- 36:35Speaker 1: way I carry myself is you go see me. I
- 36:41Speaker 1: ain't gonna reply to you on social media because I
- 36:43Speaker 1: ain't a social you know, I'm we're gonna run into
- 36:45Speaker 1: each other and then we're gonna have to have this
- 36:47Speaker 1: conversation face to face. And that's happened a few times
- 36:50Speaker 1: where I've had to run up in Vegas. Shout out
- 36:54Speaker 1: to John Mogue from ko UC, who thought he could
- 36:58Speaker 1: talk out the side of his fucking face and I
- 36:59Speaker 1: wouldn't go fucking walk up to his ass right at
- 37:01Speaker 1: the Lowrider show and be like, what's up, motherfucker? What
- 37:03Speaker 1: you trying to do? This? Nigga's crazy? You know what
- 37:04Speaker 1: I'm saying. But what I'm saying. But what I'm saying
- 37:08Speaker 1: is is like you know you and I never like,
- 37:12Speaker 1: that's just not what we do. No, I don't play
- 37:15Speaker 1: I don't play the bank the radio band game, just
- 37:17Speaker 1: because I'm not allowed the luxury to fake beef with people.
- 37:21Speaker 1: And that's something I had. I had a conversation with
- 37:23Speaker 1: my superiors before, like I can't fake beef with people
- 37:25Speaker 1: because my lineage and my my my environment and my
- 37:29Speaker 1: people don't allow me that luxury to like, oh, let's
- 37:32Speaker 1: beef or let's you know, like it's just my shit different.
- 37:35Speaker 1: And that's why I had to tell them like I'm not.
- 37:37Speaker 1: I always tell people like I'm not a radio nigga,
- 37:40Speaker 1: Like I'm a nigga who do radio. So it's it's
- 37:42Speaker 1: my shit different. I can't play like that. So that's
- 37:45Speaker 1: why everything I do is a very articulate approach. I'm
- 37:48Speaker 1: never aggressive. It's like, hey, so when I when I
- 37:51Speaker 1: did that, it's like I got swung on and I
- 37:54Speaker 1: swung back. That's it. So what what I know that
- 37:56Speaker 1: you went? You and Milk talked after that. Yeah, we
- 38:00Speaker 1: oh g got us on the phone. Well, one of
- 38:03Speaker 1: one of my own g shot to Fuzzy. He hit me.
- 38:04Speaker 1: He was like, you know, I need you to, you know,
- 38:06Speaker 1: talk to him. You know, like I don't like this ship.
- 38:09Speaker 1: And so I told Fuzzy. Fuzzy's like, I'll do anything
- 38:13Speaker 1: for Fuzzy, right, And I told him, now, Fuzzy, I
- 38:16Speaker 1: do anything for you, So put him on the phone.
- 38:19Speaker 1: So we got on the phone. We talked for like
- 38:21Speaker 1: half an hour or something like that, and I don't,
- 38:24Speaker 1: you know, get Yeah, but everything, as far as I'm concerned,
- 38:28Speaker 1: I let it go. Now. That was after I did
- 38:32Speaker 1: go on the air with it. To be honest, you
- 38:34Speaker 1: should have. Yeah, but I'm a firm believer in utilizing
- 38:36Speaker 1: your platform, so I'm a front. I went on the
- 38:40Speaker 1: air with it the next day and turned the music
- 38:43Speaker 1: off and went in for about two minutes, very very articulate.
- 38:47Speaker 1: I didn't call any about their name. I dressed people
- 38:49Speaker 1: by name, but I did I remember hearing it. I
- 38:52Speaker 1: didn't say anything disrespectful. I just addressed the issue, owned
- 38:55Speaker 1: up to my to my antics as well, and then
- 38:58Speaker 1: kept it pushing kind I felt like the moment wasn't
- 39:02Speaker 1: as much about Nipsey as it was about who the
- 39:05Speaker 1: fuck's got the song first. Yeah, I just felt like
- 39:07Speaker 1: the moment got taken away from what it was about.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Everyone who knows knows that nip always wanted to work
- 39:12Speaker 1: with Hove, of course, so I felt like that was
- 39:15Speaker 1: the moment, and that moment was robbed when it got
- 39:18Speaker 1: made about radio politics, so that I didn't like that. Yeah,
- 39:23Speaker 1: for people who don't like who kind of see uh
- 39:27Speaker 1: radio from the outside looking in, like I would venture
- 39:33Speaker 1: to say, you don't have a lot of relationships across
- 39:35Speaker 1: the street at Bottle one O six. I think we're
- 39:38Speaker 1: all cool with Gabe, see right, But like, is it
- 39:41Speaker 1: really that Like I'm not talking about this particular situation.
- 39:44Speaker 1: But like for people who are watching this, it's really
- 39:46Speaker 1: not like that. Like you'll see I've seen e Man
- 39:49Speaker 1: a million like you know what I mean, like and
- 39:51Speaker 1: mind you, I don't work for anybody now. I don't
- 39:52Speaker 1: see nobody because I'm usually in the streets. But I
- 39:54Speaker 1: just mean in general, like it ain't some like everyone
- 39:57Speaker 1: thinks it's like some weird old like gang shit. Some
- 40:00Speaker 1: people approach it that way. But for the most part,
- 40:01Speaker 1: we're all just trying to get a fucking bag. And
- 40:04Speaker 1: you know we're doing I'm doing me, you doing you.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I just listen. I'll stay out the way. I mind
- 40:09Speaker 1: my What I do is I mind my business. I
- 40:11Speaker 1: learned that from the homies and coming I've been. I'm
- 40:13Speaker 1: just I was always the square right all the street dudes,
- 40:15Speaker 1: and they would say, look, cuz mind your business. That's
- 40:18Speaker 1: what I do. I stay in my lane. I don't
- 40:20Speaker 1: talk to nobody. I don't flick it up, I don't
- 40:22Speaker 1: fake beef, I don't do none of that shit. I
- 40:24Speaker 1: just mind my business. Hey, what up man? How to
- 40:27Speaker 1: interrupt the Boutlet Cap podcast to tell you about our

- 41:23Speaker 1: So when we were on the air together, we were
- 41:25Speaker 1: on the air for when did we first get on
- 41:28Speaker 1: this three years? It was close to three years. Yeah,
- 41:33Speaker 1: we had some pretty crazy viral moments. Oh man, yo,
- 41:37Speaker 1: do you remember I was just talking of do you
- 41:40Speaker 1: remember with Lil Kim. Yeah, Lil Kim was not fucking
- 41:43Speaker 1: with me. She was not fucking with you. Oh, she
- 41:45Speaker 1: was not fucking yo. Lil Kim was fucking hot. She
- 41:52Speaker 1: was not fucking with you, bro. Yeah, And I was
- 41:55Speaker 1: thinking about that. I was like, I wonder, I wonder,
- 41:58Speaker 1: like if people, like, do people ever get over that shit?
- 42:01Speaker 1: You've been ready no longer? To me, like, when people
- 42:03Speaker 1: have a problem with you, check this out, do they
- 42:04Speaker 1: ever get over it? I think so because Soldier Boy
- 42:06Speaker 1: came up here the other day and THEO calls me first, right,
- 42:10Speaker 1: and he's like, hey, man, did you say something about
- 42:14Speaker 1: Soldier Boy in an interview? And I was like probably,
- 42:17Speaker 1: And he was like cause he's like, yo, that's the
- 42:19Speaker 1: white boy used to be on there with the black dude. Yeah,
- 42:21Speaker 1: he says some shit about me in an interview. And
- 42:23Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I don't doubt it. Yeah, he
- 42:26Speaker 1: came up. Remember he came on our show. No no,
- 42:28Speaker 1: But after that, I think and I put up a
- 42:31Speaker 1: clip of the only thing I could find by googling
- 42:33Speaker 1: bootleg cap Soldier Boy was our interview with him. And
- 42:37Speaker 1: then like me and Draco talking about the Big Draco
- 42:39Speaker 1: thing Draco the ruler, and so I was like, it
- 42:41Speaker 1: might have been this, but I don't fucking know. And
- 42:44Speaker 1: I was like, he was like, it's all good, but
- 42:46Speaker 1: just know he's not fucking with you like that. I
- 42:48Speaker 1: was like, I don't give a fuck. I don't need
- 42:49Speaker 1: to be friends with anybody. Soldier boy comes fucking awesome,
- 42:54Speaker 1: hangs out with my son, We smoke weed, We're hanging
- 42:57Speaker 1: out like fucking it was great. Like literally couldn't have
- 43:01Speaker 1: went better. And so yeah, like and look, at the
- 43:04Speaker 1: end of the day, sometimes we just got to do
- 43:07Speaker 1: our job. And you and I wouldn't even do the
- 43:10Speaker 1: kind of shit like like we wouldn't chase it. We
- 43:12Speaker 1: wouldn't chase the gotch you moment. No, No, the only
- 43:16Speaker 1: thing that the only thing that stood out to me
- 43:18Speaker 1: was obviously the Gates Kevin Gates situation was wild. But
- 43:22Speaker 1: you know, and I'm not making a defense for him.
- 43:24Speaker 1: It was his first interview. He just got prison, he
- 43:26Speaker 1: just got out. Let me tell you something. What people
- 43:29Speaker 1: don't realize is that was a lot. I did a lot. Yeah,
- 43:33Speaker 1: a lot of people felt some type of way. A
- 43:34Speaker 1: lot of people still feel some type of way. Facts,
- 43:36Speaker 1: but Kevin Gates comes to the radio station. I go
- 43:41Speaker 1: down to the lobby to grab him, and I've I've
- 43:45Speaker 1: met Kevin Gates before, but he doesn't remember obviously. On
- 43:48Speaker 1: my hey with a ble, Cavy's like, oh, that's a
- 43:50Speaker 1: good name, Kevin. No, yeah, we we'll go the same name, right,
- 43:53Speaker 1: shout out to uh. Our guy from Atlantic who's with him, Dwight,
- 43:58Speaker 1: come up the elevator. He comes in and he's like,
- 44:02Speaker 1: hen he use the room to pray. Yeah, So our guy,
- 44:06Speaker 1: Eric Fisher is stuck in the room with Kevin Gates
- 44:13Speaker 1: while he's praying for like thirty minutes. So Eric's just
- 44:16Speaker 1: sitting there and Kevin Gates is in there alone praying,
- 44:19Speaker 1: you know, because he's Muslim, so he's praying, right. So
- 44:23Speaker 1: I was like, oh, that's different. We've never had anyone
- 44:25Speaker 1: come in and pray before the interview. Like, okay, whatever, whatever,
- 44:28Speaker 1: float your boat to find your lost remote. Yeah, shout
- 44:31Speaker 1: out to a law you know what I'm saying. So
- 44:33Speaker 1: we come in and do the interview, and automatically, he
- 44:37Speaker 1: was just not into the interview at all at all.
- 44:42Speaker 1: He was not fucking with us whatsoever. You he don't
- 44:45Speaker 1: want to be there. And sometimes we'll do those interviews
- 44:49Speaker 1: where's like, man, this fool didn't want to be here,
- 44:50Speaker 1: Like why the fuck? Like, by the way, artists, if
- 44:52Speaker 1: you're gonna go do a fucking interview like and you
- 44:55Speaker 1: don't want to do it, don't do it, don't come
- 44:57Speaker 1: because otherwise anyway, So the moment happens where you touched
- 45:01Speaker 1: his arm and YO, don't touch me. I feel like
- 45:03Speaker 1: I'm being interrogated, and I'm just like, bro, it's an interview.
- 45:08Speaker 1: In an interview, we asked questions. He said, Yo, how
- 45:11Speaker 1: loo we got to do this. I feel like I'm
- 45:12Speaker 1: being interrogated here, right, So whatever the case is, the
- 45:16Speaker 1: interview finishes and we wow, awkward. Bro, So this was
- 45:23Speaker 1: interesting about that you wasn't there because you and I
- 45:26Speaker 1: would go to the radio station early. I just so
- 45:29Speaker 1: happened to catch a couple of people from his camp
- 45:33Speaker 1: at the radio station the following day, I mean, after
- 45:36Speaker 1: after we after we put out the interview, right, it's
- 45:38Speaker 1: it's up, it's gone, it's viral. They didn't like the
- 45:40Speaker 1: fact we dropped it that way. They didn't like that
- 45:42Speaker 1: we put we kept it. We don't edit our ship
- 45:44Speaker 1: before we're supposed to do, right, so I caught a
- 45:49Speaker 1: representative and I'm gonna say his name. I caught a
- 45:52Speaker 1: representative of his coming in the hallway. I'm like, Yo,
- 45:54Speaker 1: what's up? What you're doing here? Yo? Man? I just
- 45:57Speaker 1: I'm trying to see if we can get the interview
- 45:58Speaker 1: taken down. I don't that sounds like Dwight All. I'm like, yo,
- 46:04Speaker 1: I'm like, listen, bro, we're not taking nothing down. Yes,
- 46:06Speaker 1: it's too late, like it's gone, it's it's I don't.
- 46:09Speaker 1: I'm not finna start my mind because this is like
- 46:11Speaker 1: one of our first interviews. I'm not finna start my
- 46:13Speaker 1: radio career editing interviews and taking shit out, taking shit
- 46:17Speaker 1: down people when that's the breakfast club to do that.
- 46:19Speaker 1: So I'm like no. So it's like, well, you know,
- 46:21Speaker 1: we just hollered at your boss. See if we I said,
- 46:23Speaker 1: all right, bet so I go right into our boss office.
- 46:26Speaker 1: I sit down. I'm like, listen, I know they was.
- 46:28Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, they want to take the interview down.
- 46:30Speaker 1: I said, listen, bro, I'm gonna be all the way
- 46:32Speaker 1: hunting with you. I don't. He's like, well, how do
- 46:34Speaker 1: you feel about it? I don't want to take it down,
- 46:36Speaker 1: I said, Furthermore, I'm be honest with you, if this
- 46:38Speaker 1: is what we're gonna be doing, like doing the politics,
- 46:40Speaker 1: and I'd rather not do interviews moving forward. And he
- 46:43Speaker 1: was like, leave it up there, So I respect. I
- 46:46Speaker 1: respect that though, because allowing your people to have input
- 46:50Speaker 1: on decisions like that. Doc was always like that, always
- 46:53Speaker 1: like that. But they were so embarrassed by how that
- 46:58Speaker 1: shit went because it was his first interview, you know
- 47:00Speaker 1: what I'm saying. But I'm like, bro, it's already up,
- 47:03Speaker 1: it's out. And also the crazy thing about it is
- 47:07Speaker 1: when the interview finished, he hung out with us for
- 47:10Speaker 1: like an hour and a half and played us his
- 47:12Speaker 1: new album and literally said, man, I wish we would
- 47:15Speaker 1: have started the interview now because I fuck with y'all now, Bro,
- 47:18Speaker 1: I shit you not. Kevin Gates after that interview, stayed
- 47:22Speaker 1: at the radio station for a long aass time, at
- 47:25Speaker 1: least an hour, hanging out playing music for us, and shit,
- 47:29Speaker 1: it wasn't weird or nothing. Susan camera came on, it
- 47:32Speaker 1: was weird. So it was a lot of backlash. We
- 47:36Speaker 1: did have one interview we had to take down, which
- 47:38Speaker 1: one Oh uh Tianna Trump. Yeah we did. Yeah, so
- 47:43Speaker 1: we had an interview with Tianna Trump that went my
- 47:46Speaker 1: rule as fuck. That was amazing. That shit was booming
- 47:49Speaker 1: on Twitter. There's like Twitter clips that got like six
- 47:52Speaker 1: million views on that. That was an amazing interview. We
- 47:54Speaker 1: had this crazy ass interview with Tiana Trump and Vickie Chase. Yoh,
- 47:58Speaker 1: I forgot it. I still the clip in my archive.
- 48:01Speaker 1: And right around that time, we had like a ratings
- 48:03Speaker 1: meeting with our boss. It was like, Yo, y'all's ratings
- 48:06Speaker 1: with females in the ship right now. So then we
- 48:10Speaker 1: put out this fucking interview with these two porn stars
- 48:12Speaker 1: and they're talking crazy yo. I've still got the clip.
- 48:15Speaker 1: I think the interviews on porn Hub. I still got
- 48:18Speaker 1: that one clip in my phone right now. And they
- 48:21Speaker 1: were talking crazy yo. And then well they took it down. Yeah,
- 48:29Speaker 1: that one. That one was a little raunchy, but it
- 48:31Speaker 1: was fire. That ship was fire, yo. That was one
- 48:36Speaker 1: of my favorite. That was one of my favorite. Ship
- 48:40Speaker 1: was tired Yo. Me and Hendry just like because they
- 48:43Speaker 1: were just talking amongst each other. Here we're looking at
- 48:46Speaker 1: each other like, yeah, what the fuck is going on
- 48:50Speaker 1: on me? Yo? That ship was wild. Yo. Look let
- 48:54Speaker 1: me play you this I got this ship in my
- 48:57Speaker 1: thing in my phone right now, I'm gonna play audio
- 49:00Speaker 1: for your podcast. But bro, when I tell you here's
- 49:06Speaker 1: the clips, got ready to go. Nah, I had to
- 49:08Speaker 1: pull it up look the thing before. I would just
- 49:13Speaker 1: say it was crazy just because it was so many
- 49:15Speaker 1: different Like at the end when they needed to come,
- 49:18Speaker 1: it was so many types of different comes on my face.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Like there was like the like thick comes, and then
- 49:24Speaker 1: there was like the super water comes and they're like
- 49:27Speaker 1: the all that was in my mouth and ship and
- 49:29Speaker 1: I had a swallow like you know what I mean, guys,
- 49:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna go. And then but that I don't know.
- 49:37Speaker 1: That was crazy. The craziest one I would say I
- 49:39Speaker 1: have done is with a Bella and they shot a
- 49:41Speaker 1: bunch of gummy bears upriss and then fucked her and
- 49:43Speaker 1: they all melted and she shipped them in my mouth.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's that's crazy. Hey, you know you know what,
- 49:52Speaker 1: in all honesty, we should have been fired for this,
- 49:57Speaker 1: if I being honest. We put this on the radio
- 50:00Speaker 1: station whips Heart Radio. This show I remember DJ A
- 50:06Speaker 1: hit was like, Yo, what the it over there? Yop? Hey,
- 50:10Speaker 1: I ain't gonna lie That's one of the moments where
- 50:12Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, we probably out of here. Yeah,
- 50:15Speaker 1: it was nice. Yo, we gotta get that was we
- 50:19Speaker 1: shouldn't did that. We should have at least bleep that show.
- 50:21Speaker 1: We shouldn't have did we put that on iHeart we
- 50:24Speaker 1: should not have done that. That was a rough Uh.
- 50:29Speaker 1: That was crazy. I'm glad they kept us after that,
- 50:32Speaker 1: to be honest. Cheers. Yeah. Then there was the other
- 50:36Speaker 1: other time we took something down was we did a
- 50:38Speaker 1: pop smoke interview and he hit me directly and asked
- 50:40Speaker 1: to take the interview down. Yep. Yeah, that pop Smoke
- 50:43Speaker 1: interview was interesting. People still hit me up about that. Yeah,
- 50:47Speaker 1: there's there's clips of it because it was up for
- 50:49Speaker 1: like three days and you know, people ripped it and ship.
- 50:51Speaker 1: But he was just like, man, I think I still
- 50:55Speaker 1: have the text. He just like hit I know, he
- 50:57Speaker 1: called me. He was like, Yo, cab man, look, I
- 50:59Speaker 1: don't like I don't like that interview. I feel like
- 51:00Speaker 1: I could have gave you a better interview. I'm mould
- 51:02Speaker 1: be back in like a month. We could do it better.
- 51:04Speaker 1: And I want to say that was the tripund of
- 51:06Speaker 1: passing away. Yep. So we took the interview down and
- 51:10Speaker 1: uh yeah, people we talked about it though after like
- 51:12Speaker 1: should we just drop it? But like out of respect,
- 51:14Speaker 1: like nah, yeah, I mean a lot of the interviews
- 51:17Speaker 1: out there on like his fan pages and stuff. But yeah,
- 51:21Speaker 1: I think we were the first outside of maybe Drewski
- 51:26Speaker 1: to interview pop smoke. Yeah, yep, we were the first
- 51:30Speaker 1: major platform to interview him. Yeah. Now, I think, I think,
- 51:33Speaker 1: and it's it's crazy to see what his album actually
- 51:37Speaker 1: end up becoming because I didn't expect his album to
- 51:39Speaker 1: be like that at all. I thought it was gonna
- 51:41Speaker 1: be all deord out and it ended up being like fire.
- 51:44Speaker 1: I was like, damn, I wish he was here for
- 51:46Speaker 1: this is it is? You know? Yeah, man, it's crazy. Yeah.
- 51:50Speaker 1: I think that, uh, we have some good moments. Man.
- 51:53Speaker 1: I think that, uh you know, I think for sure,
- 51:57Speaker 1: like what we were doing made everyone else step their
- 52:00Speaker 1: shit up. Oh for sure, period for sure. I also
- 52:04Speaker 1: think that when you look at the way radio, the
- 52:08Speaker 1: way radio was done, it's so like antiquated in old school,
- 52:13Speaker 1: like the way people were doing it in comparison to
- 52:15Speaker 1: how we started doing our shit. It was more like
- 52:18Speaker 1: we don't really care about the fluff there's no like
- 52:20Speaker 1: gloss on this shit. It's just some raw radio shit.
- 52:24Speaker 1: And I felt like the Breakfast Club obviously kicked in
- 52:27Speaker 1: the door when it comes to that that lane, of course,
- 52:29Speaker 1: of course, but I felt like we were almost taking
- 52:32Speaker 1: a podcast approach to radio, whereas it was like we
- 52:35Speaker 1: were just having conversations and then whatever we got from
- 52:37Speaker 1: that conversation, we were truncated down and that would be
- 52:40Speaker 1: the radio show, all right, right, Yeah, And then I
- 52:44Speaker 1: just had a fucking thought and it just went away.
- 52:46Speaker 1: God damn it. I just had a good thought about
- 52:49Speaker 1: something we did. I don't remember. Well. Another thought that
- 52:54Speaker 1: I had too, is we have a lot of moments
- 52:57Speaker 1: in history as far as like oh not even the
- 53:00Speaker 1: but I'm get tagged and ship where it's like I'm
- 53:03Speaker 1: talking about like, bro, we did we did the Nipsey
- 53:05Speaker 1: passing Dude. That was crazy because that was I was
- 53:08Speaker 1: on the air Sundays. Check this out the Sunday Nipsey died.
- 53:13Speaker 1: Nipsey died on a Sunday, Kobe died on a Sunday.
- 53:15Speaker 1: I was on the air for both of those, yep.
- 53:17Speaker 1: And then you came into my shift and we ended
- 53:19Speaker 1: up doing the Nipsey thing. Yep, that was rough. Rough, bro.
- 53:23Speaker 1: I think that was probably the roughest. Uh. You know,
- 53:26Speaker 1: obviously Kobe dying was rough, but we knew nip you know, Uh,
- 53:30Speaker 1: that was the roughest. Ship was to do that radio show.
- 53:34Speaker 1: That was rough and all I could think about. And
- 53:37Speaker 1: then we also, you knew because we were on almost
- 53:42Speaker 1: right away. Yeah, and you I think you had information
- 53:45Speaker 1: that it wasn't looking good. But while we were on
- 53:47Speaker 1: the air, we couldn't divulge that. Yeah, I couldn't talk
- 53:50Speaker 1: about it. Yeah, we were waiting for it to come
- 53:51Speaker 1: down that it was official that he passed. And then yeah,
- 53:54Speaker 1: one of my homies, one of my homies, one of
- 53:56Speaker 1: my street homies hit me and was like, yeah, it's
- 53:58Speaker 1: it's it's a rap, bro, Like, I just want you
- 54:00Speaker 1: the first to know because you know that he fucked
- 54:02Speaker 1: with you tough. So I was like what like? So
- 54:05Speaker 1: then Doc hit me and was like, Yo, you mind
- 54:08Speaker 1: going to the station. I'm like, bro, I don't know
- 54:09Speaker 1: what to say right and he was like, just be honest,
- 54:13Speaker 1: just talk. So I went up there and came up
- 54:15Speaker 1: there and we did the show that I was like
- 54:18Speaker 1: one of them and all I can think about is
- 54:20Speaker 1: those old school radio moments where I remember being I
- 54:24Speaker 1: remember being at I remember being on my way to
- 54:27Speaker 1: school when nine to eleven happened, and I remember Big
- 54:31Speaker 1: Boy being on the air that morning and he just
- 54:33Speaker 1: stayed on the air like the whole time, and he
- 54:35Speaker 1: was just like, yo, if you go outside and look up,
- 54:37Speaker 1: there's no planes in the sky in the country. And
- 54:40Speaker 1: I was like, I remember, I literally remember that. And
- 54:43Speaker 1: I was like, this is one of them things where
- 54:44Speaker 1: people are going to be remembering this shit. And I
- 54:48Speaker 1: thought about this after the fact. Obviously I'm not thinking
- 54:50Speaker 1: about that while we're doing the show, but I'm thinking
- 54:52Speaker 1: about this after the fact, like people have been with
- 54:54Speaker 1: us for moments that probably they're going to remember for
- 54:57Speaker 1: the rest of their life, and that shit is that's
- 54:59Speaker 1: the ship to me that it's like, yeah, it's crazy,
- 55:02Speaker 1: that's fire. Kobe's death was so big in the world,
- 55:08Speaker 1: but I don't feel like it the impact it felt
- 55:12Speaker 1: like here like Nipsey Ship felt way crazy. Well it
- 55:15Speaker 1: was because I think what happened was like Nipsey was murdered.
- 55:21Speaker 1: I think it's the like Kobe's death was horrible and tragic.
- 55:25Speaker 1: It was horrible. Yeah, but the way Nipsey died, man,
- 55:28Speaker 1: we saw it every in broad daylight, like it was
- 55:32Speaker 1: just a complete raising act of like murder, you know
- 55:36Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So it's like that to me is
- 55:39Speaker 1: like something because then also you got to look at
- 55:41Speaker 1: what he what he represented. Yeah, it's not even what
- 55:44Speaker 1: he did or who he was, nobody give a fuck.
- 55:46Speaker 1: What you represent is like everything. And if you represent hope,
- 55:51Speaker 1: you represent community, you represent you know, aspiration, entrepreneurship, giving back,
- 55:55Speaker 1: whatever it is you represent, and then some and then
- 55:58Speaker 1: you that that type of thing happened to you where
- 56:00Speaker 1: it happened to him. I think it makes everybody question
- 56:03Speaker 1: their own mortality. And I think that's what that's that
- 56:05Speaker 1: ship that shakes everybody. Yeah, that was rough, that one.
- 56:10Speaker 1: The Kobe shit. I was numb for the Kobe shit
- 56:12Speaker 1: to be. I didn't even process it till like a
- 56:14Speaker 1: month later. Yeah, the Kobe shit, I was really really sad.
- 56:18Speaker 1: And I never even fuck with Kobe when it was
- 56:19Speaker 1: like I was, I'm a I don't fuck with the Lakers.
- 56:22Speaker 1: I fuck with him now because Lebron's on there. But
- 56:24Speaker 1: growing up I hated Kobe, right, but I like didn't
- 56:26Speaker 1: hate him in like a real way, I just as
- 56:28Speaker 1: a sports fans. But when he died, I was like shit,
- 56:32Speaker 1: like this was like a part of my life. Facts,
- 56:36Speaker 1: Like I watched this guy played basketball's entire career, like
- 56:39Speaker 1: and now this was gone, Like you never know, you
- 56:43Speaker 1: never know, bro. That's That's one of the things to me.
- 56:47Speaker 1: Even when Pop Smoke got murdered like it was, it's
- 56:50Speaker 1: like different things that like I never thought would be
- 56:53Speaker 1: a part of my radio career. Yo. The fact that
- 56:55Speaker 1: we lost Pop Smoke X Juice World yep, Nipsey Kobe
- 57:04Speaker 1: mac Miller yep, all while we were doing the show yep.
- 57:09Speaker 1: It is insane. I feel like we're forgetting people. Oh
- 57:12Speaker 1: for sure, a lot of people have been passing man,
- 57:15Speaker 1: were for sure forgetting people. But I'm just saying though
- 57:17Speaker 1: that I've never thought about, like, oh, this is gonna
- 57:19Speaker 1: be a part of my radio journey. Yeah, because even
- 57:22Speaker 1: with Pop Smoke, like Pop Smoke, like you know, he
- 57:24Speaker 1: did a lot of interviews, but he didn't do that many. Nah,
- 57:26Speaker 1: he didn't do a lot of interviews. He didn't do
- 57:28Speaker 1: a lot. So it's like, yo, we have like you know,
- 57:30Speaker 1: we talked to him really early on, and he was
- 57:32Speaker 1: cool as fuck, like he was always super nice, super cool,
- 57:35Speaker 1: and he had just so much, just so much, like
- 57:39Speaker 1: more to give. And then also if you look at
- 57:41Speaker 1: the other side of the spectrum, when we had YNW.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Melly on, he went to jail the next day or
- 57:46Speaker 1: the day after we did the last interview, the last
- 57:48Speaker 1: interview before he got locked up. Yep. Yeah, it's crazy, man,
- 57:52Speaker 1: there's a lot of shit. Dog. I think one of
- 57:55Speaker 1: my favorites, though, one of my favorites probably ever was
- 58:02Speaker 1: T Pain. Oh. The T Paint interview is a legendary
- 58:05Speaker 1: love Ta Pain, Bro. He's so yeah, we're talking for
- 58:07Speaker 1: like an hour at least. I love T Pain. He's
- 58:09Speaker 1: an That T Paint interview was a movie. He's so
- 58:12Speaker 1: entertain he's so honest and funny. And we got drunk,
- 58:14Speaker 1: well I got drunk. Remember we were taking shots, Yeah
- 58:16Speaker 1: you did. And I like fifty fifty was dope. I
- 58:20Speaker 1: love how honest fifty is ross was dope. Well, we've
- 58:22Speaker 1: got some good ones. I mean the Haiti Baby freestyle
- 58:25Speaker 1: went crazy, bro, the Haiti Baby freestyle. Bro, you had
- 58:30Speaker 1: him on your show. I had him on mine after
- 58:31Speaker 1: the fact, and I love the fact that he like
- 58:35Speaker 1: he leans into that, like, that's part of my legacy.
- 58:37Speaker 1: It's the biggest part of his legacy at this point.
- 58:40Speaker 1: That's the homie. But yeah, I mean right now, like
- 58:41Speaker 1: with it, nothing he's done, it's ever been bigger than that. Yeah,
- 58:44Speaker 1: that shit had Rihanna tweeting and Chrissy Diagan tweeting about him,
- 58:46Speaker 1: and mill posted him like that shit's insane. Facts fucking
- 58:50Speaker 1: Haiti baby shots of Stockton Man. You know. The other
- 58:53Speaker 1: thing we did on the air that we weren't crazy
- 58:56Speaker 1: about was something called the celebrity smash. Man. So we
- 58:59Speaker 1: had a big called the Selebrity Smash, which in theory
- 59:01Speaker 1: is an amazing idea. Uh. And it was where we
- 59:04Speaker 1: had people call in and give us stories about times
- 59:08Speaker 1: they fucked celebrities celebrities. And this was our boss, Doc
- 59:12Speaker 1: Winners idea and it and he had tried it with
- 59:15Speaker 1: the Breakfast Club and and and the problem was was
- 59:18Speaker 1: it it was a great idea, but to execute it
- 59:21Speaker 1: without putting people's names out there or trying to make
- 59:23Speaker 1: it too obvious that people knew, because at the end
- 59:29Speaker 1: of the day, you want listeners to be in on it. Yeah,
- 59:32Speaker 1: So we got to the point where we had to
- 59:34Speaker 1: edit so much of these calls we were getting it.
- 59:36Speaker 1: It was so like bland and kind of took away
- 59:39Speaker 1: from the original appeal of the bit. Yeah, now I
- 59:44Speaker 1: think the I think the celebrity smash will work in
- 59:46Speaker 1: nineteen ninety eight, if you know, I think it'll work now.
- 59:49Speaker 1: It's just you have to you have to say who
- 59:50Speaker 1: it is. You got to. But the only problem is
- 59:52Speaker 1: you can't do that now because because people will be
- 59:54Speaker 1: he had slander and yeah, all kind of stuff. Bro,
- 59:57Speaker 1: if you can say who it is, it'll work. Listen.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: We had some guy call the first week we did
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: this thing. We did the celebrity sites, which I'm not
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: talking about this one. Yes, go ahead, I'm not going
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: to say who he said. He oh, but we had
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: this guy calling and he told us a story about
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: twelve minute phone call. It's a twelve minute phone call.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: We still got the call about this a man who
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: called and talked about his sexual relationship with a very
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: prominent mogul and hip hop Yes, and gave details details,
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: extreme details in which made it extremely believable. With this guy.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: And when I say it had us like because because
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: we started that bit and almost right away we got
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: that call and we were like, oh, this shit about
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: to be crazy, this shit about to go crazy. Sure,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: I was like, well, we're about to get into so
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: much trouble. And the person in which this guy put
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: on blast is someone whom you don't want to fuck
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: with in the no smoke, no smoke. So right, so
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: we sent we send it over to uh our boss,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: and he's like, you got to take this out. Take
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: this out. Take this out, Take this out, Take this out. Cool.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: It ended up still being very appealing on the air,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: but that bit could have if it was like ninety
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: nine and we were doing that bit and we were
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: letting these names fly. Oh, a lot of the people
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: who call they was just running the mill groupie ship.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: I was in San Diego with my girl and I
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: ended up fucking whoever the fuck right? Oh yeah, of
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: course you did, of course you did. Or but then
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: there was there was something. There was a few that
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: were kind of crazy crazy, And a lot of it
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: too was because like these people would be married or
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: there would there would be some sort of remember the family,
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: the girl from the Big family with the NDA. Yes, yeah, bro,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: the girl from the Big family with the NDA I
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: do remember, yeah, yeah, and and and mind you, who
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: knows if these people were telling the truth. But we
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: got bro that call about that mogul was that ship
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: was crazy crazy. I'd still be playing that ship for people.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yo, I don't play it for nobody in
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: this ship leak. I destroyed it. But yeah, that was
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: that was a wild Uh, that was a pretty wild
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: wild bit we did. Yeah, we ended up not doing
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: it because it just kind of got too watered down.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: And then we got in trouble A bunch of shit,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: got it. We stayed you know what, I've never been
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: in trouble so much in my life and doing the
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: show with you, yeah, I mean every time they said yeah,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: I mean you know, no, I don't know. Niggas stayed
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: in the principal's office like what we do. Ah shit,
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: he said, yeah, now that that was a good time.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: So for people who are watching this, I think it's
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: important because there's aspiring radio personalities or people who think
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: they want to get into radio who are watching this,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: and you and I keep having this discussion about our
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: business and the future of it and where it is.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: What would you tell someone like that who's got zero
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: radio experience, but their aspiration is to be a radio
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: personality like us started to start with your platform. Now
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: build it. Build your platform. Don't don't like, don't wait
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: for the people. Don't like wait for the right opportunity,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: don't go bagging for a job. Build your platform. Start
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: off like with your own like Blue Leg CAF podcasts
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: or Homegong Radio or so many other entities that people
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: are doing. You know what I'm saying, the brilliant idots,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Joe Budden Pocket, whatever you want to build, build your
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: own ship and then take that somewhere to a platform
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: that might want the content. It's almost like because the
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: old school doing shit as far as like oh I'm
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: gonna start as an intern and work my way up.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: That's cool that it's almost dead though, but it's almost
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: a non non it's almost non existent because of the
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: simple fact the way the industry has changed. It's almost
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: like you got already have some shit going on. Especially
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: I mean, obviously we're in LA you know, we're speaking
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: from being in market number two. That's fact. So you
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: so it's it's a lot harder to like think of
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Jason from Hollywood Have Locked. That's true. Jason from Ollie
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: would have locked had this huge platform. They gave him
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: a syndication deal. At iHeart he's got the Weekend show
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: him and damage. They already had some shit going. But
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: I also say that if you're in Wichita, Kansas. Yeah,
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. If you're in wich of Tak, Kansas,
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: start your podcast and take your podcast to the radio
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: station and be like, this is what I do. I
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: would love to do that here or whatever the case
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: may be. But have some action items to show people.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: Don't just go in blind and be like, hey, I
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: want you know, I want to here's my here's the
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: burden of training. You mean, how to be a personality. Yeah,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: I think that people got to realize is nowadays more
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: than ever those Witchitalk Kansas jobs or those first of all,
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: they don't pay nothing. Second of all, they're those those
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: slots are dying. Yeah, I mean that's what I'm saying.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: I would say, build your platform. You said you gotta
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: be undeniable, be undeniable, and radio you gotta be undeniable.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: If you don't cut through the brow, you have to
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: be undeniable. Roddy Rich was a great interview too. Yeah,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Roddy was dope. Yeah, Yeah, Roddy's a perfect someone who's undeniable,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: be undeniable dog, Yeah, undeniable. Well uh. And then Homegowing Radio.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Are you guys still doing like the weekly podcast up?
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: So you guys started that in one year twenty ten
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: or twenty eleven, twenty we started doing Homegrown yeah, two
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: thousand and nine oh nine in Chuck's apartment. In Chuck's apartment,
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: and then that turned into now you're doing Knights in
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: l But over the years that was like a thing
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: even if you weren't from La. I remember just you know,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: I've always been tapped in what would you do? But
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: like just being like, oh that shit is dope, Like
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: like you said, like you had your own thing and
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: whether or not you guys would still do it if
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: iHeart never stepped in facts, That's what I'm saying. But
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: we started doing that, and then it started to it
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: became like just a regular were you go let my
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: son in real quick? We were doing internet radio show,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: and then it became like, hey, let's do a podcast
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: because and Chuck was resistant because he needs his old
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: school radio. He wanted to mix show and all that.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: Fuck that we're doing podcasts, and then that became what
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: it is now. But I think, like you said, like
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: if you just build your shit, like people will be
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: invested in you. Like you said, you've been tapped in.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: If you just build your shit, people are tapped in
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: with you. Yeah, out to Ireland. It's also like when
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: you see people like that, it's like you almost run
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: a route for them. You want to see them win
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: because they've been they've been with you from the jump. Yeah.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: And and you build your own fan base facts, so
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: you come in with fan base, you come in with analytics,
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: you come in with people that want to hear you
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: or see what you gotta do. You also now are
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: doing something on Big Boys Neighborhood. The head talks, Yeah,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: that's gonna get me into some shit for people who
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: don't know you. Kind of originally started at iHeart helping
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: like being a part of Big Boys show. Now that
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: was essentially doing you're answering calls. Yeah, yeah, that's that's
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: another thing. I never talked about that when I when
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: when they when I got hired at iHeart, they hired
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: me for two hours a week, right. Eventually something a
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: position open up for me to basically answer the phones
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: and screen calls for Big Boy. I did that for
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: three years, and that's the thing. That's what nobody talks about.
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: It's about doing those types of things. It's like, whatever
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: you bring value, that's number two of my thing. Bring value, yep,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: be undeniable, and then bring value, that's number two. Whatever
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: room you in, hey, pick up a mop. You know
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Go get the door. You know what
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: I'm saying, Go get some put some waters in the refrigerator.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: Whatever you gotta do to bring value to the situation.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: That's what I did with Big Boy, and I appreciate
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: that opportunity. I felt like me running boards and editing
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: audio and shit behind the scenes on Big Boy allowed
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: me to get a paid education and how to produce
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: radio on the highest level. It was almost like, you know,
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: a lot of people might be like, man, fuck this,
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: That's how I felt hourly pay but now, but like, yo,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: you're getting the real That's how I felt at first.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: If I'm being one hundred percent honest, When I first
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: they first told me about what I would be doing,
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: I was like, man, I want to be on the
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: air though I'm a radio motherfucker. Right, But Sallas was like,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: get in the room, right, what you're get in the
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: room is over getting the room and bring value. Stop
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: worrying about what you're called when you're in the room.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: And I'll use that for that same ideology even to
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: this day, Like even with women, it's like, don't worry
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: about what we are, just be do the job that
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: you want before you get the title, which is why
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: you're single West Coast. It's a motherfucker right here. Got
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: the craziest woman philosophies, but they're really not even crazy.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: They're very practical, very practical. But unfortunately women are practical creatures.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: They're emotional creatures. I understand, which is why you're single
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: West Coast. I'll be damned. It's like, you know, when
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: people work in McDonald's, they don't eat the food. It's
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: because they know better. By the way, McDonald's is fire.
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: I'm just saying that people who work there they know, Yeah,
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: they just know better. So that's how I look at it.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: Another a person I want to talk about, who's you know,
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: someone who's been instrumental in my career and obviously in
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: yours is Charlemagne. You've got a great relationship with Charlemagne,
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: as do I. He's always kind of been there when
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: he didn't need to be for me at all. For
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: me either, I think for I think he did the
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: same thing for both of us. Yeah, I mean I
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: remember individually though, Yeah, And like twenty ten, I was
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: in Vegas and I had Yellow Wolf on the show
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: and YELLOWILF talked bad about him, and charloat Mane hit
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: me and was like, yo, I'm more than I forget
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: what he said, but he was like, yo, but you
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: asked the right questions in that interview. And ever since
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: then he just tapped in, you know, DM at each
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: other and then he shouted me out and Vibe magazine
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: in twenty twelve, and he's just always like he's the
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: like the biggest when we think of Charlemagne, like I'm
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: so motivated by that man and inspired by what he does.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: And in our business, it don't get bigger than him, no, right,
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: it doesn't get bit like he's in our field. In
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: our field, is nothing bigger than what Charlemagne does, or
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: like he's the god and you know that's his name,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: but like I look at him like the god and
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: for him to still go out of his way to
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: tap in and help bring up and empower everybody else. Yeah. Bro,
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: he just called me last week and it was one
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: of the best conversations I've ever had in my career.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: And it was like I came away from like a
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: fifteen minute conversation with him and you know, a decade
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: after him and I first connected, and I was like, wow,
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: Like that shit meant so much to get the call
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: I got from him. He don't have to do that.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna be all the way transparent. Being able to
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: be friends and peers with Charlemagne and Big Boy because
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: I'm from LA is like beyond comprehension. It's crazy. It's
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: being there with Big Boy. I grew up loving big boys.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: It's beyond comprehensions. The fact that and they give me
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: props and like like, Yo, this is dope. Keep doing
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: that or put us in an email on my behinf
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: like that ship is wild. It's insane. Even I mean
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Big obviously is Charlamage is closer to us in age
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: and and and as far as us, like we could
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: have been peers if our careers might have started five
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: years later or earlier, you know, but like Bigs, that
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: motherfucker I think, I think, but what you said about
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: with Charlotte, Uh, like he he hit Doc up for
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: me too, same same here to co sign me to
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: get to get the job at the station. And I
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: think that was big. But there was also like I
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: remember when Charlotte used to come to LA with Debbie
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: with Debbie Brown back in the day, like twenty ten,
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: right or some shit like that, and he would like
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: sleep on our couch and we didn't know he was
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: just the weird homie that she would fuck with from
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: New York. We didn't know him like that. But I think,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: like you said, I think that's also what keeps you
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: in the game. It's like what we're saying about snooping
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: and forty bringing people up, bringing people up. I think
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: that that's I'm trying to take. I'm low key trying
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: to take his crime, his crown of being of leading
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: the league and assists. I want to throw more assists
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: in him. He's doing a lot, man, He's throwing a
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: lot of assists. Bro, He's fucking John Stockton. I'm trying
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: to come for that though. Yeah, I mean, but also
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: it's tougher now because I feel like he's throwing us
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: libs but we came from an error where the entitlement
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: was in as high facts are. It's so hard to
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: find people who are young, who have the hunger or
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: or even have the work ethic that we came up with.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Facts well also we but that's a survival list mentality
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: though we didn't have a resources. Yeah, we had to.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: We had to. So now you got like you can
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: do shit on your phone that we couldn't do with
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: whole studios. You know what I'm saying, Like, it's just insane,
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: it's just a different it's a different thing, and now
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: we sound like the old heads. But it's just now
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: paid in, Like you got to be a paid intern.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: You can't do a unpaid internship anymore. You can't even
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: call them interns anymore, which is insane. You can't. You
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: can't call them interns because there's specific rules and laws
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: that protect them. Like I worked for free from August
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: of two thousand and five until October of two thousand
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: and six, before I even got paid to set up
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: a fucking tent at the radio station. I was free
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: before I got paid to be on the street team.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: It's like that shit is like I wouldn't trade for
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: the world, though, bro I would have did at that point.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: Like I remember, I remember I went to school. So
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: when I went to radio broadcasting classes and radio broadcasting
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: in school in two thousand and five, I went with
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: Mondo Fresco, me and him. Me and him went to
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: school together. Mondo's the first person to show me anything
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: in radio, like how to edit on the back. We
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: didn't have computers at the studio, had like these old
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: like digit cart things we had to edit on. So
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: he taught me how to edit shit like that. And
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: then he was like, I'm gonna go this way. I'm
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: gonna go intern at the radio station. I'm like, man,
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: fuck that, I'm finna go build some shit, right, And
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: so we kind of we went our separate ways in
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: that way. He went to intern and worked his way up,
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: and then I went and built my shit in the streets.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: But I think the reason why you and I had
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: to do what we had to do is because we
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: chose to do it our way, so to speak. You
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: could have conformed and probably had an easier route. I
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: feel like the way I did it was conforming. Loki. Now,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: at the time, that was just kind of what you did.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: You interned then you got on the street team. Nah,
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: then you got on weekends or then you board up,
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: then you got on weekends. No, but you still always
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: you were always innovative and in the way you approached
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: the internet. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, Well I think early
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: on that wasn't a thing like that. Yeah. O nine
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: is when I first started, the only other person who
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: was doing what I was doing was Peter Parker. Yeah,
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying. That wasn't a thing like that. Yeah.
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: I would put phoners on YouTube and they did posted
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: a boy like Noah writing two Dope Boys exactly. That
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: was a different approach to doing radio. Yeah. I give
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: a lot of that to uh, Peter Parker and Rosenberg
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: Rosenbergs who inspired me to buy a flipcam. Word he
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: me too, And so I got the flipcam in every interview.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: If you ever go online and you watch like Justin
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: Bieber freestyling on my show or with the little USB,
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: that ship was bro That shit was cheap, And like
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: every interview I ever did was on the flipcamp. Are
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: you seriously? Yeah? When I was in Vegas, every interview
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: I did shoot Kendrick freestyles fucking j Cole freestyles. Fucking
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: fifty cent pulled out a half a million dollars in
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: cash on my show in Vegas and that was all
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: on flipcam. Damn, how I do baby Joel on the
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: flip cams holding that bitch yo, low key. That flipcam
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: was crazy. That shit I remember because I remember that
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: shit in your pocket. The only reason I'm tripping out
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: is because I shot the whole the tour that I
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: went on with with Jay Rocket Glasses and Kendrick. I
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: shot all that shit on the flipcamp. Bro, that flip
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: came that was two thousand and ten, Super Clutch twenty ten. Well,
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: that sucks at that company didn't like GoPro kind of
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: took their vibe. But even even go Pro's less convenient
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: than a flip flip camera. USB was built into the camera. Yeah,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: that ship was fire, bro, Damn damn we're old. Yeah,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: shout out to Flip anyway. We'll look anything out you else.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: Scott coming up, Yeah, I want to shout out to.
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: I want to shout out them to my team Homegrown Radio.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: Of course we got this. We got something really big
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: brewing coming soon. I can't really say right now, it's
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: still attorneys, but you don't look out for homegrown radio
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: following all platforms and then uh what about Uh are
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: you gonna try? You know you do a lot of
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: you kind of unofficially help a lot of artists in
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: the studio and stuff. Yeah, I don't try. I don't
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: do like color the consulting business. I don't. I don't
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: charge and ship like that. I just I just try
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: to help where I can because I felt like, like
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: like again, we're coming up. Nobody told us nothing, nobody
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: helped us. I can't name one thing outside a big
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: Boy and Fuzzy, I can't tell and Juliog excuse me,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: big Boy Fuzzy, Julio G and DJ Dents. I can't
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: tell you one thing I learned from anybody on the
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: radio in La. M. I didn't learn anything, like anything
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: everlasting from anybody. Yeah. I think the fact that that's
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: why I used my platforms with stocks and bitcoin and books,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: because outside of those specific people, I can't tell you
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: anything I learned from anybody. That's fucking crazy. I've been
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: here my whole life. Yeah, I mean yeah, radio in
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: La was extremely I mean the fact real signed on
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: and now there's two options. Yeah, it's great, because that
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: meant for me, it was so hard for me to
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: get on it powerwin O six. I was trying to
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: get hired there forever bro. I applied for every single
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: opening that ever happened there. And maybe I just wasn't
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: great at the great, but I was doing my fucking
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: shit and it just never was. I was told it
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: was never going to be a thing for me to
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: be at Power six. I won't say why, but I
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: was just told like, hey man, because you are who
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: you are, you're never gonna be on a power like
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: Jimmy's fucks with you. You're dope, but because you don't
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: check this box in this box, you just won't be
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: on aver. And those boxes are the reasons why I
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: never applied. And so for me, when Reel signed on,
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: you know, my dream was always to be in La.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: So when Real signed on, I was like, thank god,
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: there's another station, Like wow, And then what's dope about
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: this station was? They didn't care about those boxes. They
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: were like who's dope? Who's dope? And people, a lot
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: of people don't know this. I was supposed to do
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: afternoons at Real ninety two three when they launched, I
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: was in a contract in Tampa and I couldn't get
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: out of my deal. But Doc made the offer. He
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: was like, Yo, you gotta you gotta go to your
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: guys in Tampa and they got to let you out
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: of your deal. I got afternoons for you because he
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: was they were going through the laws who were big damn.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean that's why I really respect the
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: fuck out of really dude. You know, in our business,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: people be giving iHeart a lot of shit, right, I mean, look,
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: at the end of the day, they're like the Yankees.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: They're a major corporation, right, So as they go, the
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: industry goes and their corporation. So there is situations in
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: which people get let go in Matt. But guess what
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: it just is what it is. I will say this,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: iHeart to me is still extremely talent driven. And what
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: I appreciated about working for Doc was nothing mattered you
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: could be for the most part, because we've worked with
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: some real difficult motherfuckers, right that ended up not making it.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: But those people were empowered because they brought value and like,
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: if you're dope and you're doing your shit, that could
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: put you on period. He'll give you opportunity, give it
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: an opportunity, and whether or not you run with it,
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: like shout out to a girl, DJ Leslie ran with it,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: killing it, killing it. I love murdering it. Shout out
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: to Chuck Dizzel murdering it. Got an opportunity. They gave
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: him an inch. He turned it into a mile. Now
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: he's on the night show. Shout out to DJ Head.
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: Same thing, same thing, same fucking thing. For me, I
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: had blind faith in Doc. Left a job in Tampa,
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: came to LA, moved to Phoenix. From Tampa, drove to
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: LA every Saturday. This was after he had offered me
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: afternoons and they moved on because I couldn't get out
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: of my deal. So Doc was like, look, just get
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: in the building and I'll handle the rest. Wow. So
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: I moved from uh oh, let's restart that there we go.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: So I moved from Tampa to Phoenix and drove to
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: fucking LA and did one weekend shift every weekend, driving
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: back and forth every Saturday from ten am to three pm.
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: I was on the air in LA and that was huge.
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: Now I was DJ and Friday night getting done for
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: my club up and mobbing straight to LA afterwards. Paying
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: Erica Rock to drive me, and shit, I did that
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: from August to December, and then I was like, Doc,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: like some shit gotta shake out soon, you know what
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like I can't get this shit is killing me,
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: you know, And shit the end of January leaving parts
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: of the story out like me like leaving real for
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: like three weeks and going and doing knights at a
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: live one on one five in Phoenix. But you know,
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: he's like, hey, I got We're making it happen, so
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: just don't sign any other contract anywhere. And then I
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: ended up doing nights with Damage and Dre Sinatra, Yeah,
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: which was you know, cool in itself and shout out
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: to those guys. But yeah, it was all Doc again.
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: If you're dope, I tell this to anybody in any
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: in any situation, whatever opportunity you get, you got to
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: make the most out of it, make the most out
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: of it, bro, cause you might not get that shit
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: ever again, ever again. Bro Ever. I just told that
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: the Soldier boy too. I was like, bro, you got
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: nine lives, oh for sure, bro, that shit's crazy. In fact,
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: he called a rect again. Good for him, as he
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: should though. Yeah, he was built for TikTok facts he is.
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: He is the like ahead of his time. There is
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: no like he should be the TikTok God. I gave
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: him as flowers too. I said, look, bro, hey, you're
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: the guy. Bro. Yeah facts, Well look DJ had go
