- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, CJ Wilson here with Dope Talk. Florida State played
- 0:02Speaker 1: Central Arkansas this weekend. The league game starts at 3 p.m.
- 0:06Speaker 1: on ACC Network. I want to get into some things
- 0:11Speaker 1: I would like to see from FSU this Saturday going
- 0:13Speaker 1: into the Central Arkansas game. It should be a dominant
- 0:15Speaker 1: performance by FSU, but there still are a few things
- 0:18Speaker 1: I want to see within the dominant performance from the
- 0:21Speaker 1: team that we can, I guess, build upon or create
- 0:26Speaker 1: opinions about for the rest of the season. Before we
- 0:28Speaker 1: get started, got to give a shout out to our

- 1:18Speaker 1: the channel if you haven't already. All right, Central Arkansas,
- 1:22Speaker 1: let's go ahead and get right into it. A few
- 1:23Speaker 1: things I want to see or touch on for this game.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I want to play a complete game, right? A complete game,
- 1:30Speaker 1: a clean game, no quarter laps like we've seen in
- 1:33Speaker 1: past games, that type of deal.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I can't remember. I could probably count on one hand
- 1:37Speaker 2: if that, how many.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Clean and complete games FSU has played under Mike Novell's tenure.
- 1:46Speaker 1: So again, I would like a clean and complete game
- 1:48Speaker 1: from start to finish, come out of focus, stay on
- 1:51Speaker 1: top of those guys.
- 1:53Speaker 2: What's the, Saying that you hear, kill a fly with
- 1:57Speaker 2: a sledgehammer.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I would like FSU to do that and to keep
- 2:00Speaker 1: hitting those guys with the sledgehammer throughout four quarters. So, again,
- 2:05Speaker 1: play a clean, complete game with no type of quarter
- 2:08Speaker 1: laps and that type of deal. My second point, and
- 2:11Speaker 1: this kind of ties into the first one because if
- 2:13Speaker 1: the first one doesn't happen this way, we may not
- 2:15Speaker 1: get to see this. We're hoping we'll see it a
- 2:17Speaker 1: little bit against Southern Miss. Sorry, New Mexico State. I
- 2:19Speaker 1: don't know where the hell I get Southern Miss from.
- 2:22Speaker 1: First game in the season, New Mexico State was hoping
- 2:24Speaker 1: to see this a little bit more, but I wanna
- 2:25Speaker 1: see Malachi Marshall. I wanna see what he brings to
- 2:28Speaker 1: the table. We heard all the things as far as
- 2:32Speaker 1: the arm talent he brings to the table, right? So
- 2:34Speaker 1: I'd like to see it in live action, let me
- 2:35Speaker 1: get live reps. Was the number one quarterback in JUCO,
- 2:39Speaker 1: led his team to the JUCO National Championship. And just
- 2:43Speaker 1: the film we saw, that's why a lot of FSU
- 2:45Speaker 1: fans are so excited about his potential.
- 2:48Speaker 2: What he could bring to the table.
- 2:50Speaker 1: He can make every damn throw based upon what we saw,
- 2:52Speaker 1: literally every throw. Amazing arm talent, great accuracy, just a
- 2:58Speaker 1: dynamic playmaker who I think can change the trajectory in
- 3:03Speaker 1: certain areas of a team due to what he brings
- 3:06Speaker 1: as being a dynamic pastor. I've been on record in
- 3:11Speaker 1: saying that I felt like if he, which I'm not
- 3:15Speaker 1: sure what the issue was, but I felt like he
- 3:16Speaker 1: would have been the starter for FSU. If he enrolled
- 3:20Speaker 1: during spring, was able to go through spring practice, go
- 3:23Speaker 1: through getting classes for the winter or the spring semester,
- 3:27Speaker 1: spring practices, the 15 practices, be there the entirety of the.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Summer and leading into fall camp.
- 3:32Speaker 1: It would have been no doubt in my mind that
- 3:34Speaker 1: Malachi Marshall would have been the starting quarterback for FSU.
- 3:39Speaker 1: But as you guys know, he did get in. He
- 3:43Speaker 1: did arrive at the campus over the summer. And within
- 3:45Speaker 1: that summer, you're kind of behind the eight ball. But
- 3:48Speaker 1: at the same time, he still did a good enough
- 3:50Speaker 1: job in fall camp to impress a little bit to
- 3:52Speaker 1: get the nod. Well, it's not officially the nod, but
- 3:56Speaker 1: quote-unquote the nod of second-string quarterback. We'll see for sure
- 4:00Speaker 1: once the game comes about. But I have good authority
- 4:03Speaker 1: that Marshall will probably be the second quarterback we see
- 4:05Speaker 1: within the game. So, again, with that being said, he
- 4:08Speaker 1: was able to do that within that short time period.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I do think from an on-talent standpoint, he does have
- 4:15Speaker 1: the best on-talent on the roster, regardless of all the quarterbacks,
- 4:21Speaker 1: Daniels included. So I really would like to see us
- 4:23Speaker 1: get to a certain part of the game where we're
- 4:25Speaker 1: comfortable enough to put certain guys in. And one guy
- 4:28Speaker 1: I really want to watch for is Malachi Marshall. Let's
- 4:32Speaker 1: stick with the quarterbacks a little bit. I want to see,
- 4:35Speaker 1: and this is on Ashton Daniels specifically, I want to
- 4:38Speaker 1: see Ashton get the ball out quicker, right? Get the
- 4:41Speaker 1: ball out quicker. I believe, I saw a tweet, I
- 4:44Speaker 1: forget who posted it, posted this down the third, but
- 4:47Speaker 1: I think he is, at three seconds, he has the
- 4:53Speaker 1: slowest trigger rate in college football. And I say trigger rate,
- 4:56Speaker 1: snapping the football, dissecting the play, going through your progressions
- 4:59Speaker 1: and letting the ball go. He holds the ball entirely
- 5:02Speaker 1: too long. I think it's like three seconds before he
- 5:03Speaker 1: actually makes a decision to throw the football. Have to
- 5:06Speaker 1: be a lot more decisive in our decision-making and more
- 5:10Speaker 1: quicker in our.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Reads, right?
- 5:12Speaker 1: Because, one, it makes the offense line look worse than
- 5:17Speaker 1: what it is, right?
- 5:18Speaker 2: You take these unnecessary sacks, unnecessary pressures.
- 5:21Speaker 1: By holding on to the ball too long, going through
- 5:23Speaker 1: your progressions way too long and that type of deal.
- 5:26Speaker 1: It makes your offensive line look worse than what it is.
- 5:28Speaker 1: And Mike Novell's offense is not a bunch of, you know, progressions, read, hear, read,
- 5:34Speaker 1: that type of deal, scan the fields. It's more quick
- 5:37Speaker 1: reads and that type of stuff. A lot of plays
- 5:39Speaker 1: we missed going back to Alabama, SMU, and I guess
- 5:43Speaker 1: you could say a little bit of New Mexico State
- 5:44Speaker 1: as well from the passing game standpoint. We've left a
- 5:48Speaker 1: lot on the field. Our receivers are really good. They
- 5:50Speaker 1: can create separation, get open, and make plays. We just
- 5:54Speaker 1: have to give those guys the chance to make plays. So, again,
- 5:56Speaker 1: holding on to the ball is a little bit too long. Well,
- 5:59Speaker 1: holding on to the ball too long has been an
- 6:00Speaker 1: issue thus far at Asheville. like him against a team
- 6:03Speaker 1: like Central Arkansas to get the ball out quicker and
- 6:06Speaker 1: try to build those realms, muscle memory, this, that, and
- 6:08Speaker 1: the third, and carry.
- 6:09Speaker 2: That for the rest of the season. I would also
- 6:12Speaker 2: like Ashton to pull out, right? Pull out. Pull out.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I think James Colvin, former FSU fullback, saying he thinks
- 6:20Speaker 1: Ashton has about four, five, six kids running around because
- 6:24Speaker 1: he refuses and hates to pull out. And he's absolutely right.
- 6:28Speaker 1: If you look at The film, SMU, look at some
- 6:31Speaker 1: of the film against Alabama. They do not respect him
- 6:33Speaker 1: as a runner. And I guess right from the start,
- 6:34Speaker 1: we've seen some of the runs he's done, right? But
- 6:40Speaker 1: at the same time, he's capable and it's open. If
- 6:43Speaker 1: he just pulls and gets five, six, seven, whatever it
- 6:46Speaker 1: may be on that pull, maybe even more, more yardage,
- 6:51Speaker 1: teams start to respect that, right?
- 6:53Speaker 2: Teams start to respect that instead of crashing down.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Defensive end slash linebackers crashing down to tackle whoever the
- 6:59Speaker 1: running back is in the backfield. If they respect that pull,
- 7:02Speaker 1: if he makes the team respect the pull out, they
- 7:04Speaker 1: will be a lot more slower to make the play
- 7:06Speaker 1: on the running back on the back end, on the
- 7:08Speaker 1: back side rather, and that just makes the play, the offense,
- 7:13Speaker 1: more fluid and more open to where you have a
- 7:15Speaker 1: threat at the quarterback running the football.
- 7:17Speaker 2: You have to be honest and with being honest, the
- 7:19Speaker 2: running back.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Will be able to do what he do and create
- 7:22Speaker 1: the type of plays that we've seen our running backs create, right?
- 7:26Speaker 1: Chrome on how good they are. If you get those
- 7:28Speaker 1: guys in certain situations, they can make players miss. So
- 7:31Speaker 1: the more you keep the defense honest, the more opportunity
- 7:33Speaker 1: for those plays to happen. And at the same time,
- 7:37Speaker 1: it gives Ashton the opportunity to make those plays as well, too.
- 7:40Speaker 1: So last thing that ties into him pulling out, when
- 7:43Speaker 1: you make a decision to run, make a decision to run, right?
- 7:47Speaker 1: There's so many times where he makes a decision to
- 7:50Speaker 1: run when he's still hesitant to actually go and run.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Put your foot down.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Go.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Put your head down. Make the play.
- 7:56Speaker 1: You're a 225, 230 quarterback. You're bigger than most players
- 7:59Speaker 1: on the field as it is. Go ahead and do
- 8:01Speaker 1: your thing. If you guys remember the Alabama, the game
- 8:03Speaker 1: against Alabama, the touchdown run Daniels had on the sideline.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I think it was the last touchdown of the game,
- 8:08Speaker 2: if I'm not mistaken. Forgive me if I'm wrong.
- 8:10Speaker 1: But that play specifically got to the sideline, was able
- 8:14Speaker 1: to make it athletic, put the tightrope on the sideline,
- 8:16Speaker 1: and get in for the touchdown. He went.
- 8:19Speaker 2: He didn't hesitate.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Ashton just went. I'm not saying he's a player. He
- 8:22Speaker 1: doesn't have to be a 4'2, 4'3, Lamar Jackson type
- 8:24Speaker 1: of guy, but he's a very capable runner when he runs,
- 8:28Speaker 1: and that play showed it. So, again, once you have
- 8:30Speaker 1: an opportunity to run and you decide to run, run.
- 8:34Speaker 1: That's what I want to see out of Ashton Daniels.
- 8:38Speaker 2: All right.
- 8:39Speaker 1: As you guys know, Sam Singleton got injured against Alabama.
- 8:42Speaker 1: He's going to be out for an extended period of time,
- 8:46Speaker 1: so we need more reps at the running back position, right?
- 8:50Speaker 2: Trey Wiseman.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I would like to see Trey get a lot of
- 8:52Speaker 1: reps going into this game. He's been banged up a
- 8:55Speaker 1: little bit in spring, practice, fall, camping, that type of deal.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Got a few reps against New Mexico State. Didn't really
- 9:01Speaker 1: play at all against SMU. Got a few reps against Bama.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Now it's mainly because Sam got hurt, like we stated.
- 9:08Speaker 1: So this is the time, right? You paid a decent
- 9:11Speaker 1: amount of money from the NIL standpoint to land Trey
- 9:14Speaker 1: Wiseman from Texas out of the transfer portal. Now it's
- 9:17Speaker 1: time to cash in on those Time to cash in
- 9:23Speaker 1: on those investments, right? We need to give him a
- 9:24Speaker 1: lot more reps, get him comfortable within this game against
- 9:28Speaker 1: Central Arkansas, get his feet wet. So going into the season,
- 9:31Speaker 1: he could be a guy that we could count on.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I do like Trey Wiseman a lot. I think he
- 9:35Speaker 1: has the best patience on the team, has the best,
- 9:40Speaker 1: I guess you could say, he can make guys miss, right?
- 9:43Speaker 1: His second-level moves in regards to getting to the linebacker,
- 9:48Speaker 1: deep safety, whatever it may be, he can make that
- 9:50Speaker 1: guy miss easily. So I'm really interested and want to
- 9:54Speaker 1: see what Trey Wiseman can bring to the table with
- 9:57Speaker 1: more opportunities being allowed to him. Defensively, I want the
- 10:02Speaker 1: guys to play more aggressive in coverage. Play more aggressive
- 10:06Speaker 1: in your coverage, right? Play more aggressive in your coverage.
- 10:09Speaker 1: And I've kind of been saying this, and I don't
- 10:10Speaker 1: know if it could be a coach thing. I know
- 10:12Speaker 1: Tony White has these guys playing off in a certain
- 10:15Speaker 1: yards and that type of deal due to zone coverage
- 10:17Speaker 1: and his schemes, right?
- 10:18Speaker 2: I get it. But at the same time, you can
- 10:20Speaker 2: still play a more aggressive.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Type of coverage. Whenever we're in a zone, I would
- 10:28Speaker 1: like us to actually zone match, right?
- 10:30Speaker 2: Zone match.
- 10:31Speaker 1: When I say zone match, match guys that's in your
- 10:34Speaker 1: zone instead of just covering grass and covering space. Match
- 10:37Speaker 1: guys that's in your zone. It seems like we're in
- 10:40Speaker 1: no man's land for the majority of the time when
- 10:42Speaker 1: we're out covering.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Guys and that type of deal. And it's an issue.
- 10:46Speaker 2: I really don't like that.
- 10:47Speaker 1: And, of course, third down situations and that type of deal.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Understand situational football and what type of yardage you're getting, right,
- 10:56Speaker 1: whether it's third and short, third and long, whatever it
- 10:59Speaker 1: may be. Understand the sticks and what route combinations you're
- 11:02Speaker 1: going to be getting from the receivers and what you
- 11:04Speaker 1: need to do as a defensive back to combat that.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Prime example, New Mexico State, I'm talking about a third
- 11:08Speaker 1: and five, whatever, where eight, nine yards off and backpedaling.
- 11:12Speaker 1: SMU game, third and six, we're 11 yards off from backpedaling,
- 11:15Speaker 1: pretty much giving up the first downs. Be aware of that.
- 11:18Speaker 1: You have to feel on third and long, man, like
- 11:21Speaker 1: third and long. I say this all the time, like
- 11:24Speaker 1: the longer the third down conversion is, the more nervous
- 11:27Speaker 1: I get as a fan that the opposite team is
- 11:30Speaker 1: going to convert because we've given up those ridiculous third
- 11:35Speaker 1: downs multiple times over and over, over and over again, right?
- 11:39Speaker 2: So... Third and long, we didn't get off the field.
- 11:42Speaker 1: If you guys remember, and I think this was the
- 11:44Speaker 1: play of the game against Alabama, the play of the game.
- 11:47Speaker 1: This play here literally shifted everything within their favor, in
- 11:50Speaker 1: my opinion. If we get this stopped, I believe that
- 11:53Speaker 1: game is over. I'm not going to say it's over.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I believe that game is close to being over, close
- 11:59Speaker 1: to sticking a fork in them, and close to making
- 12:01Speaker 1: those guys call it a day and actually quitting, right?
- 12:04Speaker 2: I really believe that. It was third and 17. Third
- 12:06Speaker 2: and 17-14.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Second quarter right before halftime, third and 17. We get
- 12:13Speaker 1: off the field there, get the ball back, possibly score.
- 12:18Speaker 1: We could take Alabama's period, right? I really believe this
- 12:20Speaker 1: is the play of the game. Third and 17, we
- 12:22Speaker 1: give up 15 yards on the third and 17. Even
- 12:25Speaker 1: though they didn't technically convert, that's a conversion in my book.
- 12:29Speaker 1: If you give up 15 yards on the third and 17,
- 12:31Speaker 1: that's a conversion. And rightfully so, with getting X amount
- 12:35Speaker 1: of yards on that third and 17, Alabama went for
- 12:39Speaker 1: it on fourth and two and converted that fourth and two.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Long story short, that drive there ended up being a
- 12:44Speaker 1: touchdown for Alabama, which was the start of their run.
- 12:48Speaker 2: To come back in the game.
- 12:49Speaker 1: If we get off the field on third and 17,
- 12:52Speaker 1: third and 17, right?
- 12:53Speaker 2: There's no way in hell they should get 15 on that.
- 12:55Speaker 2: If we.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Do our job on third down and don't make that
- 13:00Speaker 1: fourth down manageable, I really think we win that game.
- 13:03Speaker 1: So I want to see us play more aggressive coverage.
- 13:05Speaker 1: understand down and distance, and get off the field on
- 13:08Speaker 1: third down, especially third and long situations. When you've got
- 13:11Speaker 1: a chance to put a team away, you've got to
- 13:13Speaker 1: put a team away. And I really think that part
- 13:15Speaker 1: and that part of the game was a chance to
- 13:17Speaker 1: put Alabama away, but we failed to do so. Lastly,
- 13:21Speaker 1: the last thing I want to see, I want to
- 13:22Speaker 1: see the young guys get some action, right? Again, that
- 13:25Speaker 1: ties back into my second point about Malachi Marshall. I
- 13:28Speaker 1: want to speak on him specifically, but overall I do
- 13:30Speaker 1: want to see a lot of the young guys we
- 13:31Speaker 1: have on the roster get more reps. Jason Lopez is
- 13:34Speaker 1: an exciting guy to receive. We want to see him
- 13:37Speaker 1: get his feet wet against a team like Central Arkansas.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Amari Thomas, a very talented running back that was committed
- 13:43Speaker 1: to South Carolina. I believe to send him in camp
- 13:46Speaker 1: in the scrimmages I went to, I really think he's
- 13:49Speaker 1: an SEC type of back, big-time player. We want to
- 13:52Speaker 1: see him get some reps as well, too. Again, we're
- 13:55Speaker 1: down a running back with Sam Singleton, so it could
- 13:57Speaker 1: be a point in time where that third or fourth
- 13:59Speaker 1: running back could be needed. With Trey Riser pretty much
- 14:03Speaker 1: stepping into the second Barbie within the second running back spot.
- 14:07Speaker 1: So Amare Thomas is a guy I want to see
- 14:09Speaker 1: within this game, Central Arkansas, get some reps and that
- 14:12Speaker 1: type of deal, as it can be good for FSU
- 14:15Speaker 1: going into the future remaining on the schedule. Boggs, I
- 14:19Speaker 1: want to see Boggs get more reps. Of course, you
- 14:21Speaker 1: want to see Track Howard and Charles Lester deal with
- 14:25Speaker 1: that quarterback room, Ricky Knight as well, get more reps.
- 14:27Speaker 1: So the younger guys that were recruited defensive line-wise, I
- 14:30Speaker 1: want to see the defensive line, younger guys that were recruited,
- 14:33Speaker 1: some of the true freshmen get some reps as well.
- 14:35Speaker 1: So I want to see the younger guys get some action,
- 14:38Speaker 1: get that playing time. There's no such thing as, you know,
- 14:41Speaker 1: playing four to five games, whatever, save a rest, all
- 14:45Speaker 1: that type of BS.
- 14:46Speaker 2: We get five years to play five. So again, take
- 14:49Speaker 2: advantage of the situation.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I would like to see our young guys get some
- 14:53Speaker 1: action within this game. So with that being said, we
- 14:55Speaker 1: need to go out and handle our business and put
- 14:58Speaker 1: Belk to ass against Central Arkansas. Excuse my language, but
- 15:00Speaker 1: put Belk to ass against those guys so the young
- 15:03Speaker 1: guys can get in and get those quality reps to
- 15:05Speaker 1: build on for the rest of the season. Those are
- 15:07Speaker 1: my takes. Excuse me, that's what I want to see
- 15:09Speaker 1: going into the Central Arkansas game. Let me know in
- 15:12Speaker 1: the comments what you guys are looking for for this
- 15:14Speaker 1: game and how you guys want it to play out. Again,
- 15:17Speaker 1: make sure you guys hit that like and subscribe button.
