Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You could do your intro. You want to just keep
- 0:02Speaker 1: taining talking. It's fine. I don't know what's up everybody.
- 0:06Speaker 1: It is ripped Michaels into the Wild now and a
- 0:08Speaker 1: whole bunch of other stuff because I'm successful now. But
- 0:11Speaker 1: it's not about that. It's about eating while broke with
- 0:14Speaker 1: my host over here, Colleen, and we're doing something real broke.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I'm talking about broke broke. I'm talking about south side
- 0:20Speaker 1: of Chicago. Bro We're doing spam tacos, and a a lot
- 0:23Speaker 1: of people don't even know what spam is. It's actually
- 0:25Speaker 1: something that you can get at the store. It's nine
- 0:28Speaker 1: store meat olicious. I'm actually, well, welcome to the spam club.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I don't even know how to get out of the
- 0:35Speaker 1: can everybody. So I'm really meat. It's a go to
- 0:38Speaker 1: because it's stage. You can seep in your bag, you
- 0:40Speaker 1: can do a lot with me. It is real meat.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Like So my green isn't super simple because uh, I
- 1:11Speaker 1: come from a little diverse struggle. So don't let the
- 1:14Speaker 1: little even she sweat the fool you in a little
- 1:16Speaker 1: a little change. But this is back in the day,
- 1:18Speaker 1: because you know why I don't paint her Nick pay
- 1:20Speaker 1: us in um Rock Kerry CDs and you know that
- 1:23Speaker 1: you were, so my gredients are super simple. I got
- 1:27Speaker 1: spam right here, cann of spam. Look at that. That's
- 1:30Speaker 1: enough meat for a week, and that only costs a
- 1:32Speaker 1: dollar nighting. Now that last your week, last your week.
- 1:35Speaker 1: But the way I cook it, unless you want to
- 1:37Speaker 1: splur and have guests because you know, maybe like two days.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I got tomatoes. Of course, tomatoes the cheap. I use
- 1:41Speaker 1: regular letters. We're not gonna see no no rollman, no mixed.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I'm talking about regular letters you can get for eighty nine.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Sense In here, we got mixed cheese, which I normally
- 1:49Speaker 1: don't do mixed cheese. I normally do, like uh like
- 1:52Speaker 1: sometimes I just take the Cheetos and I just scrub
- 1:54Speaker 1: the Cheetos cheese and put it in the thing and
- 1:56Speaker 1: then eat the Cheetos later. That's how you have two
- 1:58Speaker 1: meals and one I'm not stupid cheese. Got protein and
- 2:00Speaker 1: then we got onion, red onion, so it's gonna be
- 2:04Speaker 1: absolutely good. And all you need, of course, is your
- 2:06Speaker 1: mccormicks or Laurie's Tacos easing, which nor only like six
- 2:09Speaker 1: not sens. I got my water a little little oil
- 2:12Speaker 1: from my pant in my little season, in my little
- 2:14Speaker 1: ground pepper and stuff like that. Did you need oil
- 2:16Speaker 1: for your pans? I did? But it's sam. Spam is
- 2:18Speaker 1: like bacon. It kind of makes its own grease. If
- 2:20Speaker 1: you can see the gelatin, it'll definitely come. You know what,
- 2:25Speaker 1: if I was ever wondering based on like how you
- 2:27Speaker 1: look today and how successful you are, I would never
- 2:30Speaker 1: guess that you could creatively make or have eaten a
- 2:34Speaker 1: dish like this. So it's because look, you know, you're
- 2:37Speaker 1: very successful, and you're very successful, and I think it's
- 2:42Speaker 1: so important for people to see, you know, someone of
- 2:45Speaker 1: your stature, someone that's accomplished so much, see that you
- 2:48Speaker 1: legit ate like this. So go ahead, start us off
- 2:51Speaker 1: with the how do how do we get this meal started? Okay,
- 2:54Speaker 1: let's get this spam all cut up. It's get this
- 2:55Speaker 1: cut board over here. Yes, normally I wouldn't even have
- 2:59Speaker 1: a knife when you broke. You just literally just cut
- 3:00Speaker 1: it up. And you can see that the meat actually
- 3:02Speaker 1: lasts for a long time because you can see how
- 3:04Speaker 1: blacky it is and how they say falls apart just
- 3:06Speaker 1: like that. Now, do you when it comes to spam,
- 3:08Speaker 1: do you have to cook it all. Once you open
- 3:10Speaker 1: the can or can you like aluminum foil. Some of it,
- 3:13Speaker 1: actually spam can be eaten right out the can. A
- 3:15Speaker 1: lot of people don't know what. It's already pre cooked.
- 3:16Speaker 1: It's already actually ready to go. All you gotta do
- 3:18Speaker 1: is all we're really doing is warming it up a
- 3:19Speaker 1: little bit, because it's actually actually ready to go. I
- 3:21Speaker 1: actually on rush days just eat it just like this,
- 3:24Speaker 1: probably warming up in the microwave, and that's good to go.
- 3:27Speaker 1: A part of me wants to just try a little
- 3:29Speaker 1: slither of it. You think I'm trying to know why, No,
- 3:32Speaker 1: we don't have any I'm going to try a piece
- 3:34Speaker 1: of this, guys, just for one for the team, also
- 3:36Speaker 1: for doing on your plane. Okay, interesting, it's already go already,
- 3:41Speaker 1: I know you food or whatever. I'm not knocking spam.
- 3:47Speaker 1: By the way, it's actually pre cooked. Um, it's really salty, Yes,
- 3:50Speaker 1: it's it's definitely salty. That's why it's like you don't
- 3:52Speaker 1: really need oil, but you can use oils. It's definitely
- 3:54Speaker 1: a little salty. Um. Yeah for me, because you know,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I just recently lost a lot of weight. So because
- 4:00Speaker 1: I'm going back look great, look amazing. Thank you man,
- 4:05Speaker 1: you're gonna speaking to babies. That's what they spared my
- 4:08Speaker 1: weight loss. I actually went to Six Flags with my
- 4:10Speaker 1: daughter and I was three hundred thirty pounds and I
- 4:12Speaker 1: was too fat to get on the roller coaster. And
- 4:14Speaker 1: we went there and I was actually my daughter's first
- 4:15Speaker 1: time actually going to um uh to uh six Flags,
- 4:20Speaker 1: and she was so excited to ride two different roller
- 4:22Speaker 1: coasters and them and things like that. Yeah, so when
- 4:24Speaker 1: we got to the roller coaster, they don't tell you
- 4:25Speaker 1: don't have like a weight requirement, so they don't tell
- 4:27Speaker 1: you that you know you're too big, So there's no
- 4:28Speaker 1: way you'll know until you get on the road coaster.
- 4:30Speaker 1: So I'm sitting on the road coast and I'm uh,
- 4:32Speaker 1: they're trying to push the harness down and then pushing
- 4:34Speaker 1: the harness down there like sir, it won't it has
- 4:36Speaker 1: to close, and like four the little kids and it's
- 4:38Speaker 1: like roller coasters back up and it's hot, and everybody's
- 4:40Speaker 1: looking like why would this fat ass dude? No, he
- 4:42Speaker 1: is too big for this thing in roller coaster, and
- 4:44Speaker 1: so they're pushing it down. The management come and they
- 4:46Speaker 1: don't call you a fat ass. They just look at
- 4:48Speaker 1: you and they give you that white face and they go, sir,
- 4:51Speaker 1: it has to close, and the right then and there.
- 4:54Speaker 1: It was so embarrassing. I had to get off the thing.
- 4:55Speaker 1: They had to let everybody else's harness up. And then
- 4:57Speaker 1: my daughter wrote the rollercoaster by herself. And then with
- 5:00Speaker 1: my daughter so resilient, um, she was on the roller
- 5:04Speaker 1: coast and I'm like, sweetie, did you have a good time?
- 5:05Speaker 1: She was like it was okay, we can go home now.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And that's just showing how much my daughter actually and
- 5:10Speaker 1: she actually was like let's go home because she was
- 5:12Speaker 1: embarrassed for me. So God is so good. They have
- 5:15Speaker 1: this thing in six lags when you go down these
- 5:17Speaker 1: steps and it's like this little thing or it's like
- 5:19Speaker 1: a picture both where they take pictures of me and
- 5:20Speaker 1: they show how much fun you have. And so when
- 5:22Speaker 1: I look at the picture, but it was like yeah,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I was just why did you lie to me? You
- 5:25Speaker 1: have fun? And she was like, damn, I did it
- 5:27Speaker 1: so much fun as everything I thought it was. But
- 5:29Speaker 1: you're such fat and I no one told you to
- 5:30Speaker 1: eat twinkies late at night, and I'm so embarrassed. So
- 5:34Speaker 1: I spent the entire time at the music part, just
- 5:37Speaker 1: pretty much getting in the cotton candy line and stuff
- 5:39Speaker 1: like that. So that inspired my That inspired me so much,
- 5:42Speaker 1: and I promised my daughter that before the season and
- 5:45Speaker 1: we go back, and that happened in June. And in
- 5:48Speaker 1: all this I went back, I lost sixties seven pounds
- 5:50Speaker 1: and I got on every single roller coast and I
- 5:52Speaker 1: just kept my journey going from from there. Own. That's amazing.
- 5:55Speaker 1: So it sounds like you're an amazing dad. But let's
- 5:59Speaker 1: talk about how you got your start. Um. I actually
- 6:03Speaker 1: started doing comedy when I was a little kid around Chicago.
- 6:06Speaker 1: So you used to have this thing called the Comedy Click,
- 6:10Speaker 1: and we used to have this thing at Bernie Mac
- 6:11Speaker 1: used to host called the Cotton Club. I was actually
- 6:13Speaker 1: thirteen years old when I first started doing comedy. And
- 6:16Speaker 1: where were your parents during this whole thing? Just my dad.
- 6:22Speaker 1: My parents are still together, so they be married for
- 6:25Speaker 1: I want to say, forty three years and they be
- 6:28Speaker 1: cheating on each other forty two years. So my dad's
- 6:32Speaker 1: girlfriend is the actually person that got me in the comedy.
- 6:34Speaker 1: So yeah, telling you truth, my dad's girlfriend, I had
- 6:37Speaker 1: an I didn't know behind cameras, this is the truth.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I didn't even know she wasn't my auntie. I didn't
- 6:44Speaker 1: know that. My dad used to make me call his
- 6:46Speaker 1: girlfriend Auntie. I didn't know that married. Yeah they're still married.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I didn't know that wasn't my auntie. I thought that
- 6:51Speaker 1: was literally my Auntie Jockey. I had no idea to
- 6:53Speaker 1: One day I came home and I was like, Mama, look,
- 6:55Speaker 1: Auntie Jockey bought me a suit. And I was so happy.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I came and I was saying, Mamma, look what did
- 6:59Speaker 1: you Jockey? She bought me a suit. My mom was
- 7:01Speaker 1: like that, ain't you damn Auntie? That's your daddy girlfriend.
- 7:03Speaker 1: And go outside. Your uncle Craig gonna help you. Go
- 7:05Speaker 1: talk you to the zoo. So I had an Auntie
- 7:07Speaker 1: Jocket and Uncle Craig my whole life. It's a true story.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I have more questions though. That's the questions. Did your
- 7:15Speaker 1: did your was your mom? Were they cool? Was this
- 7:18Speaker 1: like an open marriage? They were just my mom would
- 7:20Speaker 1: just do, my dad doing, like okay, let's be doing,
- 7:22Speaker 1: let's go do it. And they're they're married still they
- 7:25Speaker 1: still look. Don't judge my parents. They know you don't
- 7:28Speaker 1: go to church, you don't know what they freak. They
- 7:30Speaker 1: still together. Yeah, that's amazing. I love that. I mean
- 7:32Speaker 1: very toxic now that you you know, look at it
- 7:34Speaker 1: coming on the outside going in. That's not how Mary. Yeah,
- 7:37Speaker 1: I didn't know if they were like best friends and
- 7:39Speaker 1: they're just like sharing their trade secrets. Oh no, they
- 7:42Speaker 1: were know J D. Pet Will Smith Augustustina in Templements,
- 7:45Speaker 1: straight up cheating. And my mom was smart because and
- 7:49Speaker 1: my dad would go out and come here like one
- 7:52Speaker 1: o'clock in the morning. My mom would come on the
- 7:53Speaker 1: tour from teen Ac like she would sleep all day.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I was keeping both day secrets. All right. Now, that's
- 7:57Speaker 1: what a good allowance, I tell you that. Yeah, but
- 7:59Speaker 1: they wow, but wow, you know that, no wonder come in. No.
- 8:06Speaker 1: So she's to take me around to the comedy clubs
- 8:08Speaker 1: because she was, you know, frequent him, and she would
- 8:10Speaker 1: take me around and she would be like, okay, cool.
- 8:12Speaker 1: And then my mom found out I was going to
- 8:13Speaker 1: comedy club and put a stop to it. Um So
- 8:15Speaker 1: then once my mom put a stop to it, I
- 8:17Speaker 1: stopped doing comedy altogether, and I couldn't go out anymore
- 8:19Speaker 1: because she was actually my connect for the whole thing.
- 8:22Speaker 1: So once that stopped, um, I wouldn't finished up high
- 8:25Speaker 1: school and everything. And I remember because I was going
- 8:27Speaker 1: back into it. Now that I'm out of high school.
- 8:29Speaker 1: I just graduated. I got a job doing construction, and
- 8:32Speaker 1: then my mom was like, you gotta I came home
- 8:34Speaker 1: and my mom was like, you gotta leave. You gotta
- 8:36Speaker 1: kick me out. Literally, I've just been working a week
- 8:38Speaker 1: and she's like, you can't stay here because you're not
- 8:39Speaker 1: going to college. And I was like, well, at least
- 8:41Speaker 1: let me get my paycheck so I can't find a
- 8:44Speaker 1: place to go and do. She's like no, all my
- 8:45Speaker 1: stuff was sitting on the porch and she's like, you
- 8:47Speaker 1: gotta go my mama. My MoMA is a Popeye Ladys
- 8:53Speaker 1: from Free Boil. We're like so. Um. Then I end
- 8:58Speaker 1: up going to college graduating because I have no other choice.
- 9:01Speaker 1: So and then after I got to college, I pursued
- 9:04Speaker 1: my career fully. I met Dave Chappelle at a comedy
- 9:06Speaker 1: club in Ohio and yells with Dane Ohio and I
- 9:10Speaker 1: saw him. He's like, if you ever want to find
- 9:11Speaker 1: out funny? And I go to New York. So I
- 9:13Speaker 1: literally got off the Greyhound bus maybe like two weeks
- 9:17Speaker 1: later after my friend Jermain got locked up and he said,
- 9:19Speaker 1: this is what you're supposed to do. And I never
- 9:20Speaker 1: looked back. I stayed on the streets of New York
- 9:22Speaker 1: homeless for about a year. He's not the trash kings
- 9:25Speaker 1: and all that stuff. And the hard part was I
- 9:27Speaker 1: had a daughter at the time. Well I didn't know
- 9:29Speaker 1: I had a daughter. My mama called me. She was like,
- 9:30Speaker 1: some girl called here with a picture of a baby
- 9:32Speaker 1: to look just like yours. So she was like, that
- 9:37Speaker 1: ain't my baby. She was like, a baby got your eyes.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I was like, Mama, those ain't really my eyes. Those
- 9:41Speaker 1: are the eyes of niggas. That my baby, mama life.
- 9:44Speaker 1: So so it was such a weird thing to me,
- 9:48Speaker 1: my daughter, because she was already two years old. And
- 9:49Speaker 1: but how old were you that I was, So, you're
- 9:54Speaker 1: homeless in New York and get the phone, call your daddy.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I'm a daddy. Yes, I go home. I get in
- 9:58Speaker 1: the Greyhound bus. I go home. I see this little
- 10:00Speaker 1: girl and I'm like, she's you know, because you don't
- 10:02Speaker 1: know if she also you don't want to pick up
- 10:03Speaker 1: first or you just like this. So I'm looking at
- 10:05Speaker 1: it like this I'm examine her, but yes, she's been
- 10:07Speaker 1: my daughter, and um, I am getting full custoing to
- 10:10Speaker 1: my daughter. And like maybe four months later, I took
- 10:11Speaker 1: it to New York and she was like, you know,
- 10:13Speaker 1: in the street phones with me and I would go
- 10:15Speaker 1: to different hotels and get her milk in the morning
- 10:17Speaker 1: and and we would like the pursuit of happiness. I
- 10:20Speaker 1: want to call it that. It would just miss been
- 10:21Speaker 1: my road dog ever since. Man, I think that, you know,
- 10:25Speaker 1: if I wouldn't have my daughter, my driving determination for
- 10:27Speaker 1: what I do wouldn't be as great because she's my
- 10:30Speaker 1: other half, like and I raised it by myself entirely,
- 10:32Speaker 1: So it's just been a struggle. I love her to death,
- 10:35Speaker 1: like any time I'm there, Like I used to go
- 10:37Speaker 1: to comedy club and have her sitting right there in
- 10:38Speaker 1: a little car sin and then the car. And it's
- 10:40Speaker 1: been a journey every since everything I do. Wow, that's amazing.
- 10:43Speaker 1: So you're sitting you were a single dad while pursuing
- 10:46Speaker 1: your dreams? Correct there was was there a part of
- 10:49Speaker 1: you that felt like you had to hold down a
- 10:51Speaker 1: nine to five or did you during while you're pursuing
- 10:54Speaker 1: your dreams and being a single Dad, Well, since I
- 10:56Speaker 1: you know I have. I did get my degree in college.
- 10:58Speaker 1: I mean I get my degree economics. Find that I
- 11:00Speaker 1: just needed to know because I wanted to be a
- 11:01Speaker 1: comedian my entire life. Um since I was a little
- 11:04Speaker 1: kid and I saw death comedy and I just knew
- 11:05Speaker 1: that this is what I was supposed to do. And
- 11:07Speaker 1: I told God, if this is my gift, then allow
- 11:10Speaker 1: me to be uh to prosper off. This allow me
- 11:12Speaker 1: because making people laugh and and and and and and
- 11:15Speaker 1: being able to smile and bring them joy, because that's
- 11:17Speaker 1: what I do my comedy. My name is not actually
- 11:19Speaker 1: ripped Michaels. A lot of people don't know that's actually ripped.
- 11:21Speaker 1: If you look at this R I P M I
- 11:23Speaker 1: C H E L S, it's actually ripped Mike Heals.
- 11:27Speaker 1: So that's actually how you say my name, but everybody's
- 11:29Speaker 1: kept it risk Michael. So I don't really correct people,
- 11:31Speaker 1: but that's actually what it is because I like to
- 11:32Speaker 1: heal with my comedy. Most of my shows are urban,
- 11:35Speaker 1: and people come to urban shows with a lot of
- 11:37Speaker 1: different things, um and pressures, spending licenses where they don't
- 11:40Speaker 1: get an abortion and I hope bunch of stuff going
- 11:41Speaker 1: on You're the black show. That's why they go so
- 11:43Speaker 1: hard or ethnic show to UM. Actually, if they don't
- 11:47Speaker 1: like you, they booed because they didn't done a lot
- 11:48Speaker 1: to get to that little show, to pay to knowledge,
- 11:50Speaker 1: to get in. So I love for ten minutes to
- 11:52Speaker 1: the amount of what's going on in your life. If
- 11:54Speaker 1: I can take away some of that and make you
- 11:57Speaker 1: forget or make you laugh at some of your pain,
- 11:58Speaker 1: that's my whole job. Now. So you come to to
- 12:03Speaker 1: New York, you have your single dad, You're working. I'm
- 12:07Speaker 1: guessing a day job because you have a degree. No.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Never once, once I move to New York, I never
- 12:11Speaker 1: took a day job. I would do comedy on the streets.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I would entertained on the train and go put a
- 12:15Speaker 1: little red onions and entertained on the train. UM. I
- 12:19Speaker 1: would do sell metro swipes, and I would do and
- 12:22Speaker 1: they gave me the ability to be doing a bit
- 12:23Speaker 1: of comedy for anything. I would do comedy somebody basement,
- 12:25Speaker 1: I did gospel comedy. UM. And a lot of the
- 12:27Speaker 1: comedians in New York they have like the clickers thing.
- 12:30Speaker 1: So since I wasn't from there, they wouldn't allow you
- 12:33Speaker 1: to get on stage. It would make you come week
- 12:34Speaker 1: and week after week and never give you stage time.
- 12:37Speaker 1: And I used to have to bark. So I got
- 12:39Speaker 1: so good at barking. That means when you stand out
- 12:41Speaker 1: with a flyer and you try to get people to
- 12:43Speaker 1: come to the show. So I got so good at
- 12:45Speaker 1: barking that I would fill the entire rooms just off
- 12:48Speaker 1: me going outside speaking to people and getting into buy tickets,
- 12:51Speaker 1: to the point where I started doing my own rooms.
- 12:53Speaker 1: And and in my biggest break, I would say was
- 12:55Speaker 1: when I did a show because I was so skinny,
- 12:58Speaker 1: because I was like skinny, then I'm fat. I came
- 13:01Speaker 1: to a fact, but I was homeless, so is made
- 13:04Speaker 1: me so skinny because I didn't have anyone. When I
- 13:06Speaker 1: said I'm home, I'm talking about not sleeping the car home,
- 13:08Speaker 1: and it's not room the room. I'm talking about like
- 13:10Speaker 1: literally sleeping outside the Fifth Institute and Brian Park and stuff.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And then thank god I had a Value Membership um
- 13:18Speaker 1: from college and I would just take me and my
- 13:19Speaker 1: DA would go there and we shower and everything there.
- 13:21Speaker 1: And what's your family saying while you're doing all this?
- 13:24Speaker 1: Are they like questioning whether you're insane? Well, for me,
- 13:28Speaker 1: my mom and my dad have been like my dad
- 13:31Speaker 1: is kind of supportive and not really. They have been
- 13:33Speaker 1: my biggest um catalyst for me to be a commedie
- 13:36Speaker 1: because they always told me I would never be anything.
- 13:38Speaker 1: My mom al wasn't steal with me, that I wasn't attractive,
- 13:41Speaker 1: I wasn't good. No one's ever gonna laugh at your jokes,
- 13:43Speaker 1: and whatever you do, you're gonna fail and succeed it
- 13:45Speaker 1: and you're never going to succeed at it. So I
- 13:47Speaker 1: used that energy to always live my life to prove
- 13:50Speaker 1: my mother wrong. And you guys get along fine now, Yeah,
- 13:53Speaker 1: because I forget. I mean, she you know, she's coming
- 13:56Speaker 1: around now. Because I think everybody when a mother become
- 13:58Speaker 1: a grandmother, that's not the same person to rage you.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell that right now. Is it just me?
- 14:02Speaker 1: I don't know yet? This my first grand mother to
- 14:04Speaker 1: trust me. That's not to say my mama used burned
- 14:06Speaker 1: me with a cigarette. I can't even yell at my
- 14:07Speaker 1: daughter from mama. She's a totally different person. To think
- 14:10Speaker 1: she's sick. She's trying to get in heaven. God seen
- 14:11Speaker 1: what you did. I'm gonna teach hbody how to read
- 14:13Speaker 1: with a cigarette. But yeah, we're super cool now and
- 14:18Speaker 1: now when I do TV shows and stuff. Um she
- 14:21Speaker 1: called me from time to time like, I'm very proud
- 14:23Speaker 1: of you. You said you would do it, and you
- 14:24Speaker 1: did regardless of how I made you feel. So you know,
- 14:27Speaker 1: that was a really defined moment when she apologized to me.
- 14:30Speaker 1: And we've been cool ever since. So when did you
- 14:36Speaker 1: realize like you had arrived? I still don't think I
- 14:39Speaker 1: high arrived. I think the entire time I've been to
- 14:41Speaker 1: a comedy because from that. My first television pearance was
- 14:44Speaker 1: U big shout out to Christina Milia and her mom.
- 14:47Speaker 1: They put me on the show. She had a show
- 14:48Speaker 1: at the time called um uh Wannabes and I was
- 14:51Speaker 1: so skinny, actually was the same size as y'all rule
- 14:54Speaker 1: And that was my first appearance and I was so
- 14:56Speaker 1: funny on that she allowed me to do warmer for
- 14:58Speaker 1: her show and all the rest of her shows, and
- 15:00Speaker 1: then she offered me a round. And then after I
- 15:03Speaker 1: did the show, I wanted the contest. It was like
- 15:05Speaker 1: a show where you get to uh become the artist.
- 15:08Speaker 1: So three people compete to be an artist and at
- 15:10Speaker 1: the end you get to make a music video if
- 15:12Speaker 1: you're good enough to be the artist. Um, and we
- 15:14Speaker 1: did that and then that turned actually um into me
- 15:17Speaker 1: being warm up and then she put me in the
- 15:18Speaker 1: movie let and costs the thing. And that's why I'm
- 15:20Speaker 1: nick and UM, I should have moved out here. But
- 15:22Speaker 1: you know, being a dad, I couldn't participate when while
- 15:24Speaker 1: Out first came out, So you know, I couldn't do
- 15:26Speaker 1: the things that you know, most people could do because
- 15:28Speaker 1: you know, my whole career has been you know, being
- 15:30Speaker 1: a dad and making sure my daughter had everything she needed.
- 15:33Speaker 1: So it's a lot of opportunities I had to pass up.
- 15:35Speaker 1: So now while you're in New York doing this, you're
- 15:38Speaker 1: are you turning? Are you actually making money doing stand up?
- 15:42Speaker 1: So what I started doing instantaneously when I realized I
- 15:45Speaker 1: was good at the bar, because I start producing my
- 15:47Speaker 1: own shows. Um to the point where I ran New
- 15:51Speaker 1: York and I could constantly. I can confidently say I ran.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I had more rooms than any comedian in New York.
- 15:55Speaker 1: So what I did was because the clubs wouldn't put
- 15:57Speaker 1: me on, I used that same negative energy as a catalyt.
- 16:00Speaker 1: So what I would do was go around to like
- 16:02Speaker 1: little bars and restaurants, and I would allow them to like, Hey,
- 16:06Speaker 1: let me do comedy here. You don't have to pay me.
- 16:08Speaker 1: I'll bring an audience, I'll do the show. So you
- 16:14Speaker 1: would let them keep the money, or you would have
- 16:15Speaker 1: like that they like the bar and the liquor, and
- 16:17Speaker 1: I would just take off of what I brung in.
- 16:20Speaker 1: So Um I got so good at that I had,
- 16:22Speaker 1: I would do comedy. I had three different rooms tonight.
- 16:24Speaker 1: So I started from comedians not putting me onto employing
- 16:27Speaker 1: all pretty much all the comedians in New York. You
- 16:29Speaker 1: I had the largest run in New York. So people
- 16:32Speaker 1: would have to call me, and in the week you
- 16:34Speaker 1: would make two thousand dollars off of me, just because
- 16:35Speaker 1: you would do every single room. It got to the
- 16:37Speaker 1: point where I was doing so many rooms. I would
- 16:38Speaker 1: bring up the feature and leave and go to another
- 16:40Speaker 1: room and host that one and come back and close
- 16:42Speaker 1: it and go to another one. And then when my
- 16:43Speaker 1: friend Um Rashid died, Um a great comedian. You played
- 16:48Speaker 1: Uncle Dope on Bad Boys, the comedy So Funny. When
- 16:50Speaker 1: he died, Um, he I end up his family, Um
- 16:54Speaker 1: end up asking me to host his rooms. Because when
- 16:56Speaker 1: he died, he was really good. He had like maybe
- 16:59Speaker 1: I want to say, five rooms. And when he passed away,
- 17:02Speaker 1: they were trying to host it. And I remember one
- 17:04Speaker 1: night I was there and they were like, everyone's bombing.
- 17:06Speaker 1: No one's doing really well. If you can bring the
- 17:08Speaker 1: crowd back in and kill it, I'll give you an
- 17:10Speaker 1: extra hundred dollars. So I did that, and then I
- 17:13Speaker 1: did like a couple of other times that happened, and
- 17:14Speaker 1: the next thing I know, I had his room on
- 17:16Speaker 1: top of my room. So I end up having like
- 17:17Speaker 1: twenty one rooms in a month to do comedy in
- 17:21Speaker 1: New York. And I would take the proceeds half the
- 17:23Speaker 1: money I got and give it to his family. A
- 17:26Speaker 1: lot of communities don't know that because they were like,
- 17:27Speaker 1: we're ripping. So I was like, no, I make sure
- 17:28Speaker 1: this family kept half the money. I used to take
- 17:30Speaker 1: half or whatever I got and give it to us,
- 17:32Speaker 1: this brother in law and his kids because he when
- 17:34Speaker 1: he died, he left three kids. Wow. And so now
- 17:37Speaker 1: it makes sense to me because when I see on
- 17:40Speaker 1: you know, on stage, talent like yourself, You're funny, you're charismatic.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Sometimes I'm always like, is the talent really the entrepreneur?
- 17:48Speaker 1: The driving force. Now I'm familiar and I've heard that
- 17:51Speaker 1: you are the founder of the Walling Out Tour, and
- 17:54Speaker 1: that was like, what rips the founder of the tour
- 17:58Speaker 1: like creator, creator of it. I'm like, that's like more
- 18:04Speaker 1: of an entrepreneur, the skill set mixed with talent. So
- 18:08Speaker 1: tell me how did you do that? Again? I would,
- 18:11Speaker 1: I would give all my accomplishments to my daughter. Everything
- 18:14Speaker 1: I never tried to. I'm just now trying to be
- 18:18Speaker 1: a star or I'm just now trying to actually get
- 18:21Speaker 1: my name out. So when you ask me the question
- 18:22Speaker 1: did I arrived, I've never put energy in that my
- 18:25Speaker 1: whole thought process being the funniest person I could possibly be,
- 18:28Speaker 1: um continuing to have if you can watch any of
- 18:30Speaker 1: my show, I keep that crowd laughing and running and
- 18:33Speaker 1: having a great time. That's the type of energy I've
- 18:36Speaker 1: always run to it. So the catalyst for me doing
- 18:39Speaker 1: a while Now tour was I was I was working
- 18:42Speaker 1: with Nick on his special stand up Don't Shoot, and
- 18:45Speaker 1: we were going around opening up UM clubs. And I've
- 18:47Speaker 1: written for a lot of comedians, wrote Anthony Anderson, special
- 18:50Speaker 1: I wrote brand T Jackson special Um I wrote with
- 18:54Speaker 1: Nick Okay, I tried. I tried to get You'll always
- 19:00Speaker 1: you know, Nigga always one. Because there's some of Nick
- 19:02Speaker 1: stand up that we're very in the last one stand
- 19:06Speaker 1: Up Don't Show, and I'm writing on this new talk show.
- 19:09Speaker 1: He has a daytime talk shows. Well, so when we're
- 19:11Speaker 1: doing this, we're actually funny story because it actually happened
- 19:13Speaker 1: in Los Angeles. We're in Los Angeles and we just
- 19:16Speaker 1: leave the Ontario Improv and we're sitting at the Ontario
- 19:20Speaker 1: improb and we go. He's like, I'm gonna go and
- 19:22Speaker 1: see Cat. Do you want to go? So I happened
- 19:24Speaker 1: the car with Nick and he goes and he's watching
- 19:27Speaker 1: Cat and Nike it standing in with like look on it.
- 19:29Speaker 1: And I'm like, Nick, what you just like, you know,
- 19:31Speaker 1: like saying someone's watching like Michael Jordan played. And then
- 19:33Speaker 1: Nick goes, I'm like, You'll always wish I could sell
- 19:36Speaker 1: at the Rings, Yeah, And I go what He was like,
- 19:39Speaker 1: you Nick, canny, you put Cat what you're going? Of
- 19:41Speaker 1: course you could sell out of readings Like no, man,
- 19:43Speaker 1: that's never been I've never been able to do that.
- 19:44Speaker 1: He's like, that's my that's one of my dreams to
- 19:46Speaker 1: be able to do that, and I was like, Nick,
- 19:48Speaker 1: you put me on your show, and you've done so
- 19:50Speaker 1: much for me and change my life. You kept me
- 19:51Speaker 1: on it. When I tell you, Nick keeps me on
- 19:52Speaker 1: the show because I do some wild stuff from pulling
- 19:54Speaker 1: wigs off throwing powder every day. I'm almost fired. I've
- 19:57Speaker 1: been when I first threw powder of the whole cats
- 19:59Speaker 1: like fire. But Nick was like, that's the best thing ever.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Because I always looked at wild Out as being a character,
- 20:03Speaker 1: and I always wanted to be the wildest character because
- 20:05Speaker 1: that's who I am, like the wild guy that you
- 20:07Speaker 1: never know what's gonna do it. Did I go too far?
- 20:10Speaker 1: And so when he said that, I was like Nick.
- 20:11Speaker 1: I turned to Nick and I go, I'll do that
- 20:13Speaker 1: for you because I'd already have following. I've already been
- 20:16Speaker 1: doing my April Foods comedy gym, selling out arenas across
- 20:18Speaker 1: the country on my own. So then I was like,
- 20:21Speaker 1: I'll do that for you. So I took the wild
- 20:22Speaker 1: Out tour. And it's funny because Nick was like, how
- 20:26Speaker 1: are we gonna do this? How is it gonna go?
- 20:27Speaker 1: And everything like this until he thought I was joking.
- 20:29Speaker 1: So I was like, give me six months and we'll
- 20:30Speaker 1: be doing nothing but the ringing, And so I'll go
- 20:34Speaker 1: ahead and booked this little small show to get it off.
- 20:36Speaker 1: It's it was one of the hardest things I ever
- 20:37Speaker 1: promoted because people didn't know what it was. It wasn't
- 20:40Speaker 1: like it was a comedy. So people just like, it
- 20:42Speaker 1: comes on TV, it's gonna be were tables with it.
- 20:43Speaker 1: How are we how you guys were gonna do it? Yeah,
- 20:47Speaker 1: so everybody when I when I used to promote, it
- 20:49Speaker 1: was so hard to promote because I couldn't get the
- 20:51Speaker 1: concept to people wanting to buy a ticket to see it.
- 20:55Speaker 1: So then I structured it where I was like, I'm
- 20:56Speaker 1: gonna put artists on it. I'm gonna do this. So
- 20:57Speaker 1: I took it to this place called Amazuri in New York.
- 21:00Speaker 1: It was a small, little fifteen hundred seater place, and
- 21:03Speaker 1: I tried it out there and I remember going to
- 21:05Speaker 1: Nick and said, man, give me a day. You know Nick,
- 21:07Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, whatever, sure, Sure. So then I was like, Nick,
- 21:10Speaker 1: we have a show in three weeks and he's like,
- 21:12Speaker 1: what in the three weeks I'm met Chicago. I was like,
- 21:14Speaker 1: you told me we could do the one thing. And
- 21:16Speaker 1: you know Nick of course, why would he believe that
- 21:18Speaker 1: I was during dates? And so then I was like,
- 21:23Speaker 1: Nick was like, listen, rip, I'm making X amount of
- 21:25Speaker 1: dollars in Chicago. And I was like, look, whatever you're
- 21:28Speaker 1: making in Chicago, I promise you, as a man, I
- 21:31Speaker 1: will give you that because you gave me the day.
- 21:34Speaker 1: And Nick goes. Nick goes, Okay, are you serious? And
- 21:38Speaker 1: I was like, yes, whatever it is, I promise you
- 21:40Speaker 1: will not leave. You will not walk in the building
- 21:42Speaker 1: with all your money. And so Nick goes and you know,
- 21:44Speaker 1: Nick give you that face was like you can't make
- 21:48Speaker 1: yourself or kill yourself. But now did you know you
- 21:51Speaker 1: were gonna be able to do that? For sure? No doubt.
- 21:53Speaker 1: It was hard at first, but but you didn't did
- 21:55Speaker 1: You didn't have the money yet, know. So what I
- 21:57Speaker 1: did was I did because I had to pay for
- 21:58Speaker 1: the venue. I took all the money, max doll with
- 22:00Speaker 1: my credit card. But what I did was you personally
- 22:02Speaker 1: financed this thing. And I got with my friend Compton.
- 22:06Speaker 1: We used to do little shows together, and so we
- 22:08Speaker 1: took all the credit cards and maxim all out. And
- 22:10Speaker 1: every time I was still one ticket, I would just
- 22:12Speaker 1: run up with his tip, his tip Doe, so everything
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'll be putting money to say and he'd be like what.
- 22:18Speaker 1: And then um, it got to the point where not
- 22:20Speaker 1: only did I do one show to night, I did
- 22:22Speaker 1: two shows and then I did another show in Long
- 22:24Speaker 1: Island and we end up doing three shows in two days,
- 22:27Speaker 1: um and to a sold out crowd. And then I
- 22:29Speaker 1: remember his agents from ic N was there and they
- 22:32Speaker 1: were like, these people don't matter. And I was like,
- 22:34Speaker 1: what do you mean they don't matter? He was, I
- 22:36Speaker 1: seem to say, said these people don't matter. I was like,
- 22:38Speaker 1: it's in the hood. It doesn't matter that this in
- 22:40Speaker 1: the hood. And I was like, but it's hard working
- 22:42Speaker 1: people paying money they see the show. He's like, no,
- 22:44Speaker 1: this is in the real arena. So once he said
- 22:46Speaker 1: that to me, it made me go, okay, cool. And
- 22:48Speaker 1: I have one question. While all this is going on,
- 22:50Speaker 1: you're taking all the risks. Are you breaking even or
- 22:53Speaker 1: you making an actual dollars? Nick? In the beginning, I
- 22:56Speaker 1: was just paying people and me and I was just
- 22:57Speaker 1: paying people to get on. And then Nick says, I'm
- 23:00Speaker 1: saying we're gonna do it too. Because they said that,
- 23:01Speaker 1: it fuelled me to go and I booked like fifteen
- 23:04Speaker 1: or twenty arenas and just and it was hard to
- 23:06Speaker 1: get arend because it was like, you don't have arena
- 23:08Speaker 1: you know, you know you're doing this too. We never
- 23:09Speaker 1: heard of it. And so then I go to Nick
- 23:11Speaker 1: and I fly to Nick and I was like, Man,
- 23:12Speaker 1: we're gonna do an arena too. Here. It's all the
- 23:14Speaker 1: money that you require upfront to do an arena tour
- 23:16Speaker 1: for every single day. And Nick didn't believe me. So
- 23:18Speaker 1: he's sitting the back and he's counting money. He's like,
- 23:21Speaker 1: you're really serious, and he goes, so what I have
- 23:23Speaker 1: to do? I was like, to give me a draw
- 23:25Speaker 1: for every city and just hostedt's it. So you're so dope.
- 23:30Speaker 1: I just I was just blown away. Yeah, and we
- 23:33Speaker 1: know what it is. It's Nick and working with Nick.
- 23:35Speaker 1: It's that Nick always allowed me to have the ability
- 23:39Speaker 1: to trust in me and fail or or succeed on
- 23:41Speaker 1: my own. So he gave me that opportunity to prove
- 23:44Speaker 1: myself or disprove myself, and UM and the support behind it,
- 23:47Speaker 1: because I mean, he got so fleactive. I mean, MTV
- 23:49Speaker 1: was like, you got a two we don't know nothing about.
- 23:50Speaker 1: And when I tell you, I was selling out every
- 23:52Speaker 1: single arena. I still in that year hold the number
- 23:55Speaker 1: two on post Star, which is like Billboard of Promoters,
- 23:59Speaker 1: and Take itself were number two in the country, right
- 24:01Speaker 1: behind Janet Jackson. At You, I sold out every single arena,
- 24:04Speaker 1: and then I broke another record in d C by
- 24:06Speaker 1: setting out two arenas and one night in the same city.
- 24:10Speaker 1: So we did twelve tho the show Palatin, and we
- 24:12Speaker 1: came to do Capital One Arena and we did seventeen
- 24:14Speaker 1: five and I promoted that in thirty days and then
- 24:18Speaker 1: Nick shook my hand. He was like, you did it.
- 24:20Speaker 1: You did exactly what you said, and he gave me
- 24:23Speaker 1: his look, and I was like, I felt like I
- 24:26Speaker 1: repaid you for the opportunity to take care of my daughter,
- 24:30Speaker 1: because being on Wild Now changed my entire life. And
- 24:32Speaker 1: I felt like that thank you, like the camaraderie with
- 24:35Speaker 1: each other. And then when we actually sold out the
- 24:37Speaker 1: Staples Center, the actual producer of the Wild Now like
- 24:39Speaker 1: now elevens and everyone, they were like, we never thought
- 24:42Speaker 1: something we created would sell out in l A. You
- 24:44Speaker 1: sold out the Staples Center. Yeah, I remember, I remember
- 24:48Speaker 1: hearing about it, and they were like, we how no
- 24:50Speaker 1: one sells out in l A. And we started this
- 24:52Speaker 1: thing and you helped us sell out. You sold it
- 24:53Speaker 1: out in l A. I was like, yeah, thank you
- 24:55Speaker 1: guys for making me a part of this, this this thing,
- 24:57Speaker 1: because to me, while I was bigger than being on SNL,
- 25:00Speaker 1: it was like the death comedy gym thing. So Nick
- 25:02Speaker 1: is all about cultivating talent, and I just I love
- 25:05Speaker 1: the fact that he gave me the opportunity and he
- 25:07Speaker 1: trusted me and believe me when he shook my hand
- 25:08Speaker 1: and allowed me to do that and he actually showed
- 25:09Speaker 1: up at that date. Was everything. Yeah, and we've been
- 25:12Speaker 1: rocking around ever since. By the way, we gotta do
- 25:14Speaker 1: maybe I'll come out to your restaurant. We gotta do
- 25:16Speaker 1: a follow up on you just you know awesome. You
- 25:19Speaker 1: see my on my restaurant, on my show Alban needs
- 25:21Speaker 1: the treat to show on NBC, shot the NBC Peacock
- 25:24Speaker 1: and um, so many different things where you know, I
- 25:27Speaker 1: get to do the same thing. I pay back all
- 25:28Speaker 1: my friends, like I put all the people I've worked
- 25:30Speaker 1: with over the years and helped like Jack Queis and
- 25:32Speaker 1: Cardi B and um, so many different people that I've
- 25:35Speaker 1: inspired and helped over the years, like I've known Cardi
- 25:37Speaker 1: since you're just the dancer and the clubs I used
- 25:39Speaker 1: to host and to see her do her thing. And
- 25:41Speaker 1: you know, I remember when I used try to get
- 25:42Speaker 1: Cardi on whild Out. They were like, no, we wouldn't
- 25:44Speaker 1: like her brand, we don't like her image. And she
- 25:46Speaker 1: blew up and they was like, can you get Cardy
- 25:48Speaker 1: she was I was like, she said no. You gotta
- 25:50Speaker 1: understand how hard it was to meet a while. And
- 25:52Speaker 1: I did warm up for wild Out for three years,
- 25:55Speaker 1: three years, killing the woman to the point where they
- 25:57Speaker 1: would turn the cameras and they would bank my audience
- 26:00Speaker 1: applause and laughter and put it on the television show
- 26:02Speaker 1: because I would do one so so strong and um,
- 26:05Speaker 1: because I would always use that as an audition tape
- 26:07Speaker 1: to me um, to to let them know how funny
- 26:10Speaker 1: I was. UM. And I did all that just to
- 26:12Speaker 1: get an audition. So it was it was a it
- 26:14Speaker 1: was a big It was a big deal to actually
- 26:16Speaker 1: finally get on the show. It was amazing and it's
- 26:19Speaker 1: changed my entire life. Like when you were three years
- 26:21Speaker 1: for that, yeah, three years. More advice do you give
- 26:24Speaker 1: to someone that's coming up knowing everything that you've done
- 26:27Speaker 1: to get to where you're at. Um. I want honestly
- 26:30Speaker 1: say God has been my biggest thing because everybody around
- 26:33Speaker 1: me was so you know, negative, and he sent me
- 26:36Speaker 1: his angels. So he sent me his angels to say
- 26:38Speaker 1: that you know you could do this. Don't listen to
- 26:39Speaker 1: this noise. Don't listen to your parents, don't listen to
- 26:41Speaker 1: all this noise. Don't listen to noise. Go get a job.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Don't listen to a noise. You need to plan and B.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Don't listen to the noise. You gotta go to college
- 26:46Speaker 1: because what if it fails, there is no plan. B.
- 26:48Speaker 1: If there's only a plan, ain't and you don't fail
- 26:51Speaker 1: until you quit. So whatever your level of successes, don't
- 26:54Speaker 1: determine it by someone else's because your story is going
- 26:56Speaker 1: to be your story. It's not. I can't have the
- 26:59Speaker 1: Kevin Harns story. I don't have the Nick Candid story.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I don't have a brand of ty Jacson Storey. I
- 27:02Speaker 1: didn't step on stage when I'm sixteen, and someone says,
- 27:04Speaker 1: let's put him in every single movie. So I would
- 27:07Speaker 1: tell people to stay resilient, and there's so many ways
- 27:09Speaker 1: to do it. So what I what I every no
- 27:12Speaker 1: I got I turned into it. Yes, okay, you're not
- 27:14Speaker 1: great at doing satire. So I went to Barnes and
- 27:17Speaker 1: Nobles and I stayed every day and the reading every
- 27:18Speaker 1: single book that was ever written on comedy. How to
- 27:20Speaker 1: write comedy scripts, how to write comedy writing secrets, and
- 27:22Speaker 1: know how to put jokes together and right double entendres
- 27:24Speaker 1: versus and playing words, and do every single form of comedy.
- 27:27Speaker 1: So I can walk into a church and do comedy.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I could do a golf tournament. I did the Governor's
- 27:30Speaker 1: Ball in New York, Um, so I could. There's that stuff.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Of course. I mean a lot of people don't look
- 27:37Speaker 1: at comedy that you don't have to go and learn
- 27:39Speaker 1: about it. But I think that's probably the only few
- 27:40Speaker 1: people jump into that. Oh I'm silly, but if you
- 27:42Speaker 1: actually do the research, you'll find it so much into it.
- 27:45Speaker 1: And I start reading all these other books at Barnes
- 27:47Speaker 1: and Nobles about being an entrepreneur and what it takes,
- 27:50Speaker 1: and reading uh Napoleon Hills, Uh I think and grow
- 27:55Speaker 1: rich and understanding that you know a lot of entrepreneurs
- 27:58Speaker 1: sell the same drive and determination and finding out how
- 28:01Speaker 1: to do those things and applying yourself, because there is
- 28:03Speaker 1: no such thing as no except for your mind. As
- 28:04Speaker 1: long as you believe in God, there's no such thing
- 28:06Speaker 1: as Notice that's there's nothing you cannot do. You only
- 28:10Speaker 1: limited about who you are. Wow, Wow, we haven't even
- 28:15Speaker 1: in You gotta feed us and we're gonna slice up
- 28:21Speaker 1: these tomatoes and we're gonna get this type of sausa.
- 28:24Speaker 1: But if you know, you know, without no sauce, it's
- 28:26Speaker 1: gonna be a little dry. It's okay, you know this
- 28:28Speaker 1: is eating all broke for real? So what are you
- 28:31Speaker 1: working on? UM? I just got my own show on
- 28:34Speaker 1: NBC show NBC called Urban Eason Treats, where I go
- 28:37Speaker 1: around showing there's great stuff to eat in urban neighborhoods.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I feel like, you know, with the whole Black Lives Matter,
- 28:42Speaker 1: a lot of people don't understand the minority neighborhoods. We
- 28:44Speaker 1: have great stuff to eat. We have a insanely good dishes.
- 28:47Speaker 1: There's fusion, there's so much going on. So a lot
- 28:49Speaker 1: of my guests, like Nick Cannon was on the Russell
- 28:51Speaker 1: Peters Tamar Braxton Shack, they take us to these restaurants
- 28:55Speaker 1: that they used to eat it, that they still eat it.
- 28:56Speaker 1: To this day that are great and you see these
- 28:58Speaker 1: great chefs and has a restaurant owner myself else it's
- 29:00Speaker 1: great to be able to share a lout on all
- 29:02Speaker 1: these minority owned businesses. It's not a black thing. It's
- 29:04Speaker 1: just minority owners. Like a lot of times people to
- 29:06Speaker 1: go black and it's no weird minority. I think when
- 29:09Speaker 1: you think like minorities, it opens up for everyone. And
- 29:12Speaker 1: I think sometimes when people like black black black, you're
- 29:14Speaker 1: excluding people. So now they have to feel like they
- 29:15Speaker 1: have to start their own thing. But if we think
- 29:17Speaker 1: as minorities together, then we become to majority. And that's
- 29:20Speaker 1: just my whole thought process. And I create Indian food,
- 29:23Speaker 1: great Mexican restaurants. They get this this Israeli taco place
- 29:27Speaker 1: where it's like it's really food mixed with Mexican and
- 29:29Speaker 1: it's just it's great, great dishes. So you'll go around
- 29:31Speaker 1: on the show and you try, Yeah, we're going too
- 29:33Speaker 1: these restaurants. So if you could think of dinners, drives,
- 29:36Speaker 1: and dives mixed with comedians and cars. Because they have
- 29:38Speaker 1: these interviews and they go in depth about how they
- 29:40Speaker 1: started doing everything, it's just great. And then when their
- 29:43Speaker 1: jokes and the funny thing is all these rich people
- 29:45Speaker 1: leave me with the bill at the end of the episode.
- 29:49Speaker 1: They leave me at the bill, the bill with the
- 29:50Speaker 1: end of the end of the episode, Yeah, which is
- 29:52Speaker 1: hilarious because I'm sitting here with tone bill and I'm like,
- 29:54Speaker 1: these dudes are rich and Genie, y'all sharing, and they're
- 29:56Speaker 1: leaving me with I would think that the restaurants would like,
- 29:59Speaker 1: let you no, and that's I would never want to
- 30:02Speaker 1: take advantage because I know they can, of course, and
- 30:05Speaker 1: I want them to showcase and the food is good.
- 30:07Speaker 1: And I'm always about I'm always about paying for things
- 30:11Speaker 1: and letting people know that I support them. I think
- 30:13Speaker 1: that sometimes when you get to a certain level that
- 30:15Speaker 1: people think, oh, you're supposed to get everything free because
- 30:17Speaker 1: I'm such and such a such a and I know
- 30:18Speaker 1: what that's like. So I don't ever want to be
- 30:20Speaker 1: that person for me personally. And then now did you
- 30:24Speaker 1: you created the show, so did you shop it to
- 30:27Speaker 1: get NBC? I feel like you did everything to get it.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Big shout out to Kevin. That's actually Kevin Hart and
- 30:34Speaker 1: Jeff Clanigan. When I was actually doing the tour um
- 30:37Speaker 1: in my agent and they were like Jeff knows me
- 30:39Speaker 1: from the Shack all Star thinking, and when he saw it,
- 30:42Speaker 1: he was always trying to, you know, pick some kind
- 30:43Speaker 1: of thing to to work on. When Kevin saw it,
- 30:45Speaker 1: he just automatically gravitated toward something. Kevin was like, Rip,
- 30:49Speaker 1: We're gonna definitely do something with this, and so big
- 30:51Speaker 1: shout at him because he wanted to do the whole
- 30:53Speaker 1: thing and in process to deal and I woke up
- 30:55Speaker 1: one day and he was like, here you go, Rip,
- 30:57Speaker 1: and I was like, look at God. Wow, look at God.
- 31:00Speaker 1: And that was right after, you know, the whole COVID
- 31:02Speaker 1: thing and the tour getting council. So I got two
- 31:04Speaker 1: other projects that I'm doing currently UM. And I turned
- 31:06Speaker 1: my restaurant into I've noticed that during COVID it wasn't
- 31:09Speaker 1: a lot of opportunities for comments and singers. So what
- 31:12Speaker 1: I did is I turned my my restaurant actually into
- 31:15Speaker 1: a full service UM performance space, so now I can
- 31:18Speaker 1: have more artists performed. So I took the dance flowout
- 31:20Speaker 1: and much and now it's a performerformer space or now
- 31:23Speaker 1: poets and everything can showcase they think and I can
- 31:25Speaker 1: give them fair deals because a lot of people don't
- 31:27Speaker 1: understand it. When we do these comedy clubs, we don't
- 31:29Speaker 1: get fair deals. We get seventy percent of the door,
- 31:31Speaker 1: we get no bar, we get no food, weeted, nothing.
- 31:33Speaker 1: So we walk away with a thirty thousand on the weekend.
- 31:35Speaker 1: But you're not realizing the comedy club made a hundred
- 31:36Speaker 1: and so it's not even a fair thing. So when
- 31:39Speaker 1: when when artists come, I actually give them a fair check.
- 31:41Speaker 1: I give them a portion of the ball, I give
- 31:43Speaker 1: them a portion of the I give them the entire door.
- 31:46Speaker 1: So it's just the opportunities that you know that we
- 31:48Speaker 1: need to start having for each other. Sorry about that.
- 31:50Speaker 1: And today I'm just impressed that you just totally freestyle
- 31:53Speaker 1: saw in front of names I've never I didn't even
- 31:57Speaker 1: know you could do this. Um, I'm promised you. I'm
- 31:59Speaker 1: learning to cook because feeding won't broke right here. So
- 32:03Speaker 1: we want do take a little bit of your spam.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Awesome spam and onions, Yes, a little caramelized onions. Did
- 32:09Speaker 1: we go pieces? And then perfect? Awesome? Let's try to
- 32:14Speaker 1: line it up like a little fancy restaurant. Yeah, that's
- 32:18Speaker 1: that's good. Then I like to like me personally. I
- 32:24Speaker 1: like the cheese to kind of be on top of
- 32:26Speaker 1: these again, yeah, because it's like it melts right. A
- 32:28Speaker 1: lot of people like the cheese on top to give
- 32:30Speaker 1: you that cold effect. But I actually like my cheese
- 32:31Speaker 1: right on top of my meat. Weird like that, but
- 32:34Speaker 1: you know, can I put the cheese? Put your cheese
- 32:37Speaker 1: on top. I like to have the balance of co
- 32:40Speaker 1: hot coal hot. Please never tell a strong woman no,
- 32:43Speaker 1: please put my cheese on. I promise you. We're gonna
- 32:46Speaker 1: be like best friends. So he totally freestyle the salsa. Everyone.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I want to get some overhead camaman. Look at that.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Look at that. So this is a spam taco. A
- 33:01Speaker 1: spam taco, A taco that actually cost probably about ninety cents,
- 33:05Speaker 1: and I think the most expensive partner taco is the bread.
- 33:08Speaker 1: And you can get quite a bit of tacos out
- 33:10Speaker 1: of this. Oh yeah, of course, I love it. And
- 33:13Speaker 1: you get all the ingredients pretty much at your local
- 33:15Speaker 1: Dollar Tree or Family Dollars. Nanny served milk and meat
- 33:18Speaker 1: and everything like that. Okay, now let's eat, let's try,
- 33:23Speaker 1: let's see, let's see what we're working with. Okay, that's
- 33:26Speaker 1: going to blue trucks. I don't have my own saucers.
- 33:27Speaker 1: But you know, like a real chef over here apologizing.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Let's see everybody. You're gonna take a watch first. Mmm. Good, oh,
- 33:43Speaker 1: thank you again. I don't have all my fix. I
- 33:46Speaker 1: didn't get the spam. I gotta get another bike. M
- 33:57Speaker 1: you know what that's also, it's not even dry. You're
- 34:01Speaker 1: all worried. Yeah, it's actually really good. Thank you, and
- 34:05Speaker 1: you will help me. Good. You put the cheese on.
- 34:07Speaker 1: We made it together. You know it's an US thing,
- 34:09Speaker 1: but you did your thing. I like how everyone. I
- 34:15Speaker 1: definitely want to make sure you add the salts a
- 34:17Speaker 1: bit that you did in the end, because I can
- 34:19Speaker 1: see where it could have when driving a little bit
- 34:21Speaker 1: more peppers if I had peppers and chop up in it,
- 34:23Speaker 1: make it more people out. You'd enjoy the taste a bit,
- 34:25Speaker 1: a little bit more spicy. You know this tastes great.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Thank you great, all women in the peppers and more stuff.
- 34:31Speaker 1: But you know, bro, check out the book, shout out
- 34:36Speaker 1: the recipe. You'll definitely survive while pursuing your here again,
- 34:39Speaker 1: this is yes, so thank you so much for coming
- 34:43Speaker 1: out feeding me and they and the baby. I really
- 34:48Speaker 1: enjoyed your time today and I can't wait to link
- 34:52Speaker 1: back up with you here. I'm very proud of everything
- 34:54Speaker 1: you're doing. And I know your daughters inside like proud,
- 34:56Speaker 1: jumping up for joy and she just beautiful. So that's
- 34:59Speaker 1: gonna be amazing. Thank you so much. I'm not hearting
