Latest / The Slippery Slope / Was Pope Francis teaching a different gospel?
Transcript
- 0:12Hi, Jay felon here. Thanks for listening to the
- 0:14slippery slope. So a couple of days ago, Pope
- 0:18Francis passed away. He died.
- 0:22So he died several days ago. And one thing that struck me is
- 0:24how many people, you know, we've got all these leaders, leaders
- 0:29of nations coming out. And obviously this is the way it
- 0:33goes when someone who's as well known as a, the head of the
- 0:37Catholic Church passes away. Different people come out in
- 0:41support of the Pope and Catholicism and talk about and
- 0:46give their condolences, which is fitting.
- 0:50I suppose it is fitting to give you condolences.
- 0:53However, I think as Christians, there are a few things that we
- 1:00need to, we need to talk about. And I'm just going to talk about
- 1:06only really one thing, one main thing with, but there's a couple
- 1:12of things that we do need to face.
- 1:16And the first thing is, I think is that Catholicism as a, as a
- 1:21whole is a false religion. They have, I went to a Catholic
- 1:28boarding school for a couple of years and up until then, I
- 1:32really didn't know much about Catholicism at all.
- 1:36But I got to learn and understand more about the
- 1:40beliefs of Catholics and what Catholicism teaches.
- 1:44And there's some very, very dangerous teachings within
- 1:49Catholicism. Not to mention, you know, and
- 1:53let's not forget the, the very obvious things such as praying
- 1:58to, well, idolatry, praying to idols, praying to praying to
- 2:03Mary, praying to Saints who they've designated as Saints,
- 2:08you know, so that in quotation mark, you know, so these people
- 2:12who they say, well, other people have been praying to them and
- 2:17they've seen miracles and, you know, they've authenticated
- 2:21these miracles or whatever. And then they become Saints.
- 2:24And then you're allowed to pray to these Saints.
- 2:26When I, when I was at boarding school, I'd learnt, and this,
- 2:31this was way before. And I'll say this because this
- 2:34is part of what I want to talk about with some of the one major
- 2:36problem I think people need to realise with Pope Francis.
- 2:42Pope Francis had taught that Jesus is not the only way.
- 2:49Christianity, belief in the Lord Jesus Christ is not the only way
- 2:55and not the only way to heaven, not the only way.
- 3:00And I think some people ignore the fact that Catholicism
- 3:03actually taught this. I learnt that at Catholic
- 3:06boarding school. And obviously, you know, I got a
- 3:09better age on me now. So this was way before way
- 3:13before Pope Francis became the Pope of the Pope of the Catholic
- 3:20Church, the head of the Catholic Church.
- 3:22So while I understand, while, you know, world leaders,
- 3:26whatever come out in in in support and acknowledgement,
- 3:29condolences for the passing of Pope Francis, I think it's
- 3:37really important for Christians to remember that one,
- 3:42Catholicism is has got a lot of bad teaching and is a false
- 3:48religion. And actually, I think that
- 3:50anything that's religious in nature is more than likely false
- 3:55like that belief in Christ. Anyway, I won't get into all
- 4:01that. And secondly, so Catholicism,
- 4:03there's a lot of issues. Like I said, you've got your
- 4:06idolatry, false teaching that's within the church.
- 4:12And Pope Francis, I want to bring up something that he had
- 4:14said and with This is why I think he, he himself is a false
- 4:20teacher, was a false teacher. So this came out in 2024 from
- 4:29media and culture. Did Pope Francis just say all
- 4:33religions are equally true? This author puts the question
- 4:36mark there. Now, he says Pope Francis
- 4:41delights people worldwide, as we saw in his recent visit to East
- 4:45Asia and Oceania. He also drives people crazy
- 4:49worldwide. And we saw that too, for
- 4:51instances when he said, for instance, when he said all
- 4:56religions are paths to God. I will use an analogy.
- 5:00They are different languages that express the divine.
- 5:04That's what he said. And I'm going to bring up in a
- 5:06second exactly what he did say. So he says, this writer says
- 5:10this alarm many Catholics would believe with the Catechism that
- 5:14all salvation comes from Christ, the head through the church,
- 5:18which is his body. So this writer, this author who
- 5:21was, what was his name, Tom Hoops, he, he starts off saying,
- 5:26Yep, he said that. But he gives this, he comes up
- 5:30with excuses basically for what it actually means.
- 5:33You know, he said this, but he's not actually meaning this.
- 5:36And this is actually what he said, even though we're going to
- 5:39go into verbatim, verbatim what he did say.
- 5:44So going back, he says all salvation comes from Christ the
- 5:52head. That part is true.
- 5:55But then he goes on through the church, which is his body.
- 5:59That part is false. So you got a little bit of truth
- 6:03and a little bit of false, a little bit of truth and a lot of
- 6:06false actually through the church.
- 6:08No, no, any. So he goes on.
- 6:10They worried that the Pope himself was saying otherwise.
- 6:14He says he's not update yet. The mistake persists.
- 6:19Well, it's not a mistake because that is what he says.
- 6:22He says, first, double check the catechism.
- 6:26Often the troubling things Pope Francis says are just
- 6:29paraphrases from the catechism. What I quoted about above about
- 6:34salvation is from #846 of the catechism.
- 6:41What comes right before it and right after it are also
- 6:44important. Right before it, the Church
- 6:47teaches about truth in other faiths and says about Muslims,
- 6:54together with what they say, adore the one merciful God,
- 7:00mankind's Judge on the last day. So right after it, the Catechism
- 7:06teaches that those who, through no fault of their own, do not
- 7:10know the Gospel of Christ or His Church, but who nevertheless
- 7:13seek God with a sincere heart and moved by grace, try in their
- 7:17actions to do His will as they know it.
- 7:19Through the dictates of their conscience, those two may
- 7:25achieve eternal salvation. That is incorrect, he goes on.
- 7:31Think of this. Think of it this way.
- 7:34When we die, every one of us, each Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist,
- 7:38will face Jesus Christ, our King and judge.
- 7:41Yet we will. Some of us will embrace him,
- 7:44Others will flee him. You're not going to be able to
- 7:48flee. What will that all important
- 7:52moment of judgement look like? Here's one way I think of it.
- 7:58Now, First off, when people start saying I think of it,
- 8:00instead of saying I, they think of it.
- 8:04What you really should be saying is what does the Bible say?
- 8:07Not what you think. What little, you know,
- 8:11imagination you've come up with. What does the Bible say?
- 8:14But he doesn't say that. He says, what will that all
- 8:18important moment of judgement look like?
- 8:20Here's the way I think of it. Muslims may see in him the one
- 8:25God they love, or they may stick to what their religion gets
- 8:29wrong about God, the impossibility of the
- 8:32incarnation, for starters, and flee.
- 8:35Hindus may follow what their religion gets right about
- 8:38transcendence, or what it gets wrong about reincarnation, and
- 8:41so on. If any is saved, it will be
- 8:44through Christ and then and their conformity to the
- 8:47conscience placed in them through Him.
- 8:50If any is lost, it will be by rejecting Christ and the
- 8:55conscience he gave them that. None of that is biblical.
- 9:01None of it is biblical. You're not going to be standing
- 9:03there at the last second seeing Jesus and then being able to
- 9:07choose and say, oh, I was right in this way and I was wrong in
- 9:10this thought also. And now I accept Christ because
- 9:13I'm seeing him right before my eyes.
- 9:15None of that is biblical. None of it.
- 9:17But this is the these are the excuses that this writer is
- 9:22giving for what Pope Francis said.
- 9:24So the second excuse that this writer gives about what the Pope
- 9:29said, he says we're just going to do a little bit of this.
- 9:32He says it is always helpful to read the actual words of the
- 9:36Pope, which are available with a little digging and not just a
- 9:39reporter's account. When the Pope says something in
- 9:43a magisterial document defining what Catholics believe, then the
- 9:49then the charism, then the charism of people,
- 9:56infallibility, papal infallibility comes into play
- 10:00and Catholics must give the obedience of faith.
- 10:05But when the faith, when the Pope says something in an
- 10:08informal setting, there is no exception, expectation.
- 10:14Sorry of infallibility. And now I looked this up because
- 10:17I've never, I've never heard this, but what they're actually
- 10:21talking about here is the Roman Pontiff.
- 10:26This is in their like their law kind of thing of the law of the
- 10:29church, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, second edition.
- 10:33It says the Roman Pontiff, head of the College of Bishops,
- 10:38enjoys the infallibility in virtue of his office when, as
- 10:44supreme pastor and teacher of all the faithful who confirms
- 10:52his brethren in the faith, he proclaims by a definitive act a
- 10:56doctrine pertaining to faith or morals.
- 11:00The infallibility promised to the Church is also present in
- 11:05the body of Bishops, when, together with Peter's successor,
- 11:11they exercise the supreme magisterium, above all in an
- 11:16ecumenical council. When the Church, through its
- 11:19supreme Magisterium, proposes a doctrine for belief as being
- 11:24divinely revealed and as the teaching of Christ, the
- 11:29definitions must be adhered to with the obedience of faith.
- 11:33The infallibility extends as far as the deposit of divine
- 11:37revelation itself. So in in short, the Pope can
- 11:46claim to hear from God being here the Holy Spirit is talking
- 11:50to him. He is hearing the word of God.
- 11:53This is a direct additive to the Bible.
- 11:57This is God himself giving the Pope clear words.
- 12:01This is the word of God and you must follow it as in like any
- 12:07other book of the Bible. That's that's what they're
- 12:11saying when they talk about the infallibility of the Pope.
- 12:14And we'll go to just the third excuse that he's giving for what
- 12:18the Pope says. He says follow the Pope adding
- 12:21whatever details of the faith you think are important.
- 12:24So he says last, if you think that the Pope left something out
- 12:27or said something unclearly, then maybe the Holy Spirit is
- 12:30urging you to action. Go and do what the Pope did and
- 12:33counter people who didn't know Jesus Christ and share your love
- 12:37of Christ with them, adding the teachings of the church you
- 12:40think he missed. OK, so let's go back to what
- 12:44he's actually said actually, and I'm going to bring up this is
- 12:49the dialogue that was happening. This is what the Pope verbatim
- 12:53what he said, he says. And let's let's let's bring up
- 13:00what the Pope says. And then we're going to bring up
- 13:02what the Bible actually says, OK, And how what the Pope is
- 13:06saying is in contradiction to what the Bible and what Jesus
- 13:11said. He So the Pope is saying he's
- 13:15giving this talk and he says one of the things he's giving a talk
- 13:19to young people, OK. He says, one of the things that
- 13:21has impressed me most about the young people here is your
- 13:25capacity for interfaith dialogue.
- 13:28This is the words of Pope Francis goes on to say.
- 13:32This is very important because if you start arguing my religion
- 13:39is more important than yours or mine is the true one, yours is
- 13:44not true. Where does this lead?
- 13:48It's the question somebody answer.
- 13:50That's what he says. A young person then answers and
- 13:54he gives the he says destruction.
- 13:58Pope Francis, that is correct. All religions are paths to God.
- 14:06That's verbatim what he said. Now, going back, going back to
- 14:09what this other writer had said, he says, did Pope Francis just
- 14:14say all religions are equally true?
- 14:17And then he goes on to give excuses and and twist twists
- 14:21what Pope Francis said and give excuses for what he's saying.
- 14:27But he did. He said verbatim this is what he
- 14:31said. That is correct.
- 14:32All religions are paths to God. I will use an analogy.
- 14:37They are like different languages that express the
- 14:40divine. But God.
- 14:43He says God is for everyone and therefore we are all God's
- 14:46children, but my God is more important than yours.
- 14:51Is this true? There is only one God and
- 14:55religions are like languages paths to reach God.
- 14:59Some seek, as in seek the religion Sikh, some Muslim, some
- 15:07Hindu, some Christian. Understood.
- 15:10Yet interfaith dialogue among young people takes courage.
- 15:15So what he's saying here is all religions take you to God.
- 15:19But if you read it, what what he's saying is that there's a
- 15:22little bit of there's a little bit of truth, a little smidgen
- 15:27of truth and a whole lot of faults, a whole lot of bad false
- 15:33teaching. OK, let's first read.
- 15:36We're going to go ahead and read what the Bible says.
- 15:39This is the words of Jesus. Jesus says, actually I'll read
- 15:43this one first. In John 14, I read the new King
- 15:47James Version. It says, let not your heart be
- 15:50troubled. If you believe in God, believe
- 15:52also in me, in my Father's House of many mansions.
- 15:55If it were not so, I would have told you, I go to prepare a
- 15:58place for you. And if I go and prepare a place
- 16:00for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, that
- 16:03where I am, there you may be also.
- 16:06And there I go, you know, sorry. And where I go you know, and the
- 16:10way you know, Thomas said to him, Lord, we do not know where
- 16:15you are going. And how can we know the way?
- 16:20Jesus said to him, I am the way and the life.
- 16:25No one, no one comes to the Father except through me.
- 16:34If you had known me, you would have known my Father also.
- 16:38And from now on, you know him and have seen it going back.
- 16:41I am the way, the truth and the life.
- 16:45No one comes to the Father except through me.
- 16:48Pope Francis, what's he say? All religions are paths to God.
- 16:57It's false. The Bible says Jesus says I am
- 17:01the way he is the way he is the truth.
- 17:04He is the life. No one comes to the Father
- 17:08except through him. There is no and, and when he's
- 17:13saying when, when he's saying God here, there's a little bit
- 17:18of truth to this because Yep, these, these, these beliefs,
- 17:22these religions do, they will lead you to God, but not God of
- 17:27the Bible. They're not going to lead you to
- 17:29the Lord Jesus Christ. They're going to lead you to God
- 17:33with a little little G God of the world.
- 17:38They're going to lead you to the God of this age, Satan.
- 17:43There's only, there's only, there's only Godfather, son,
- 17:48Holy Spirit or Satan. And you're, you're choosing one
- 17:51or the other that that's what is happening here.
- 17:55And when he says so, when he says there's a little bit of
- 17:57truth and then, then he says, but God is for everyone and
- 18:01therefore we are all God's children.
- 18:04Well, little bit of truth again, but he says, but my God is more
- 18:10important than yours. Is this true?
- 18:12There is only one God. So there's there is only one
- 18:14God. That sounds good.
- 18:16But then he says, and religions are like languages, paths to
- 18:20reach God. So he's not actually talking
- 18:22about the Lord Jesus Christ, the God of the Bible, the God of
- 18:27Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He's not talking about the God
- 18:30who created the heavens and the earth as set out in Genesis.
- 18:34He's talking about false God. That's what he's talking about.
- 18:39Don't get, don't get it wrong. Even though they've got a
- 18:41capital G here, we're all thinking you might read it and
- 18:44think, oh, yeah, God of the Bible.
- 18:46No, because he says there is only one God.
- 18:49And religions are like languages, paths to reach God.
- 18:53Some Sikh, some Muslim, some Hindus, some Christian.
- 18:56Understood. So he he's a false teacher.
- 18:59And what else does the Bible say about all all these people that
- 19:04can stand up and say that would have the heart to stand up and
- 19:08say you can follow any religion, any belief system, as long as
- 19:11you believe it in all your heart.
- 19:12This will take you to God. This is what what else the Bible
- 19:17says, OK. And this was in direct
- 19:19contradiction to what all Pope Francis was in direct
- 19:23contradiction. This is why he's a false
- 19:26teacher, direct contradiction to what Jesus said.
- 19:32We'll go from well, this is this is Matthew 7 and I'll just go
- 19:36straight down for time sake. Matthew 7 verse 13 enter by the
- 19:42narrow gate for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads
- 19:47to destruction. And there are many who go in by
- 19:52it because narrows the gate and difficult is the way which leads
- 19:56to life and there are few who find it.
- 19:59Pope Francis when he's talking. When he's talking he is.
- 20:04His false teaching is saying God is for everyone and then we are
- 20:08all, therefore we are all God's children, but my God is more
- 20:10important than yours. Is this true?
- 20:13There is only one God and religions are like languages,
- 20:16paths to reach God. Some Sikh, some Muslim, some
- 20:20Hindu, some Christian Understood.
- 20:23What is he preaching there or what is he teaching?
- 20:26He is teaching the exact opposite to what God said to
- 20:31what Jesus said. He's Jesus said Enter by the
- 20:35narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that
- 20:38lead to destruction. But narrow is the gate and
- 20:42difficult is the way. Pope Francis says wide is the
- 20:50gate that leads that leads to leads to heaven.
- 20:56That's what he's saying. Because he's saying that you can
- 20:58be Sikh, you can be Muslim, you can be Hindu, you can be
- 21:01Christian, you can believe in whatever you want to believe.
- 21:06All religions are like languages.
- 21:08All religions are paths to reach God.
- 21:13I just want to go on with the rest of the rest of Matthew 7
- 21:17because it's very important. So Jesus is talking about
- 21:21asking, seeking, knocking. He talks about the narrow way he
- 21:24entered through the narrow gate. Why does the why does the gate
- 21:28and broad is the way that leads to destruction.
- 21:31There are many who go and buy it, but narrow is the gate and
- 21:34difficult is the way which leads to life and there are few who
- 21:37find it. He goes on next verse, verse 15.
- 21:42Beware of false prophets. Pope Francis just he had stated
- 21:47something exact contradiction to what Jesus had said.
- 21:51Jesus says narrow is the gate. Pope Francis says no.
- 21:55Why it is the gate. You can just believe in whatever
- 21:57you want. So beware of false prophets who
- 21:59come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous
- 22:03wolves. You will know them by their
- 22:05fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn
- 22:09bushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears
- 22:13good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
- 22:17A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear
- 22:21good fruit. Every tree that does not bear
- 22:24good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
- 22:26Therefore, by their fruits you will know them.
- 22:30Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, I personally think
- 22:34this is probably the scariest verse in the Bible.
- 22:38It's it needs to should make you think, make you really
- 22:45contemplate. That's just my opinion.
- 22:48OK, says not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord shall enter
- 22:52the Kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father
- 22:57in heaven, many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we
- 23:04not prophesied in your name, cast out demons in your name,
- 23:10done many wonders in your name and then this is the words of
- 23:15Jesus. He says, I will declare to them,
- 23:18I never knew you depart from me, you who practise lawlessness,
- 23:26I'm going to stop the the Bible reading from there you go on and
- 23:30encourage you to read the whole lot, obviously yourself.
- 23:35This is the problem with Catholicism, Catholic teaching.
- 23:41There's a lot of false teaching within the religion.
- 23:46But like I said, I don't want to dance on the I'm not trying to
- 23:51dance on the the grave of of the Pope or anything, but just warn
- 23:57you that when we're thinking about it, especially if you're a
- 24:00new Christian and this was, I think a very, it's of someone to
- 24:06look at and say, OK, this is an example of a false teacher.
- 24:10Like I said, I hope that he repented.
- 24:12I hope that he came to true faith, belief in the Lord Jesus
- 24:15Christ. But if you look at his fruit and
- 24:19what he was teaching, he taught things that were in direct
- 24:23contradiction of the Bible and the very words of Jesus.
- 24:30And when Jesus says just after saying narrows the way and he
- 24:35says beware of false prophets and you're reading that, I think
- 24:40he unfortunately you, you have to realise that the teaching of
- 24:47the Pope was false. He was unfortunately a false
- 24:52teacher. And I do hope he repented.
- 24:57And I just, I'm really saying all this, OK, because I want, I
- 25:00want us to. If you're a Christian, I want
- 25:05you just to to be aware, just because someone has the title,
- 25:09just because someone professes to be a Christian and have the
- 25:13title of being a Christian and and saying they go to a Church
- 25:17of some sort, you have to compare what they are saying to
- 25:24what the Bible says. People make mistakes.
- 25:28I by you know, by no means well, can I ever stand up and say, oh,
- 25:34everything I'm saying is Yep, straight down the line is
- 25:37exactly true. I'd probably I know I've made a
- 25:40lot of mistakes in the past and I know I will make mistakes
- 25:43about Scripture, but you need to be you need to if someone's
- 25:50going to teach you and show you, I know you were wrong in this
- 25:52way. Someone comes and says, hey,
- 25:54Jay, what you said about the Bible, this this teaching the
- 25:57Bible is wrong and they can show this is what actually means.
- 26:00Well, then you need to be teachable and say, OK, yeah, and
- 26:03repent of it and and be forthright about about that.
- 26:08Everyone will make mistakes, mistakes.
- 26:11But but he was teaching teaching millions of people that this is
- 26:18the word and then holding this so so called authority that what
- 26:23he says is infallible. So just be aware we're just
- 26:28because someone's saying that they're a teacher, they're a
- 26:30Christian, they go to church, you must compare what they're
- 26:35saying to the Bible. This is all my opinion.
