Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: The Shaw Report. Paramount Plus is the latest network to
- 0:08Speaker 1: announce what's coming up in the new year. They all
- 0:11Speaker 1: do this. Seven attended it last week. They call it
- 0:13Speaker 1: the Upfronts. They do. And the thing that's got most
- 0:15Speaker 1: people talking after Paramount's Upfronts is their announcement they're making
- 0:20Speaker 1: a drama series about the mushroom murders. And New Zealand
- 0:23Speaker 1: actress Melanie Linsky, who you might know from Yellow Jackets,
- 0:26Speaker 1: is playing Erin Patterson. I wondered how long it would be.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Not long. No. Quicker than I thought. They also announced
- 0:33Speaker 1: a series inspired by the early days of Sam Kerr
- 0:37Speaker 1: called Kicking Goals. Last King of the Cross, the John
- 0:41Speaker 1: Abraham story, is returning for Season 3. I've really liked that.
- 0:44Speaker 1: It has been a good show. And NCIS Sydney is
- 0:47Speaker 1: back for Season 4. They also confirmed there will be
- 0:50Speaker 1: a Season 3 of Mobland. Emmy-winning Aussie actress Sarah Snook
- 0:56Speaker 1: is set to star in a new take of The Birds,
- 0:59Speaker 1: or a new take on, I should say, The Birds.
- 1:01Speaker 1: The project has been dubbed a visceral, present-day reimagining of
- 1:05Speaker 1: both the original Daphne du Maurier gothic horror novella and
- 1:10Speaker 1: the very loose 1963 film adaptation by Alfred Hitchcock. I
- 1:14Speaker 1: keep telling you this isn't a few birds. These are gulls, crows, swifts.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I have never known birds of different species to flock together.
- 1:21Speaker 1: The very concept is unimaginable. Why? If that happened, we
- 1:26Speaker 1: wouldn't have a chance. As long as there's no magpies
- 1:30Speaker 1: in there, we'll be fine. Classic Hitchcock left people as
- 1:33Speaker 1: afraid of birds as Steven Spielberg did with sharks. The
- 1:36Speaker 1: Sarah Snook version is being written by Tom Speziali. Now,
- 1:39Speaker 1: he wrote both The Leftovers, which was an awesome series,
- 1:43Speaker 1: and Watchmen, which people have told me is also an
- 1:47Speaker 1: awesome series. I've heard of it. I haven't seen it.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Several attempts have been made to again adapt The Birds
- 1:52Speaker 1: over the years with both a Naomi Watts-led film in
- 1:55Speaker 1: 2007 and a BBC series in 2017, failing to make
- 1:59Speaker 1: it out of development. So... Maybe Sarah Snook will be
- 2:02Speaker 1: the one to do it because she is pretty amazing. Now,
- 2:05Speaker 1: a year ago, Connor Story was a waiter at a
- 2:09Speaker 1: restaurant hoping to crack an acting gig. Then came heated rivalry.
- 2:13Speaker 1: And now he's set to go toe-to-toe with one of
- 2:16Speaker 1: Hollywood's biggest movie stars in one of its biggest franchises.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Stories and talks to star opposite Ryan Gosling in Ghost
- 2:22Speaker 1: Rider for Marvel Studios. It's presumed that Gosling will be
- 2:25Speaker 1: playing Johnny Blaze in the comics. Blaze is a stunt
- 2:29Speaker 1: motorcycle rider. who made a deal with the devil and
- 2:32Speaker 1: becomes bonded with a demon. Blaze then transforms into a flaming, skull-headed, fiery,
- 2:39Speaker 1: motorcycle-riding spirit of vengeance. And one assumes Story would be
- 2:44Speaker 1: cast as the villain, possibly Mephisto. Rock veteran Neil Young
- 2:50Speaker 1: isn't having it again. Not for the first time, Young
- 2:54Speaker 1: has filed a $ 14 million lawsuit over the Trump campaign
- 2:59Speaker 1: using this song again. He's suing Donald Trump's fundraising committee,
- 3:12Speaker 1: citing unauthorised use. Don't antagonise Neil. God, he's so grumpy. Oh,
- 3:17Speaker 1: I know. He's citing unauthorised use of his 1989 song, Rockin'
- 3:21Speaker 1: in the Free World. Neil Young sued the Trump re-election
- 3:24Speaker 1: campaign back in 2020 over its use of that same song.
- 3:27Speaker 1: And he says on that occasion, they settled the matter
- 3:30Speaker 1: out of court. Some people don't get the message. No,
- 3:34Speaker 1: they don't. But it's a nice... Neil won't be that upset.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I mean, it's a nice little earner for him. Yeah.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Settle out of court every time. Yes. Use it again
- 3:43Speaker 1: in 2028. I mean, what is it? It just doesn't
- 3:46Speaker 1: matter to them because it's just loose change. It's fine.
- 3:49Speaker 1: So whatever. Exactly. Yeah.
