- 1:10Let's get right into it. Know how's it been going dude,
- 1:13since I talked to you on Wednesday?
- 1:16It's going pretty good, yes. Yeah, just normal week, playing
- 1:22a bit of Crimson Desert, playing a bit of Kerbal Space Program.
- 1:26Very good. Just hanging out and hanging out
- 1:30with the boys. Doing some podcasting on the
- 1:33weekend. Here to bank some episodes.
- 1:35Love it. What could be better?
- 1:37What could be a better day outside?
- 1:38For now, I was taking off the hangover.
- 1:41Yeah, that's. Great I I mowed the lawn, took a
- 1:44bath really quick, took some pills and now here I am drinking
- 1:47I. Wouldn't think.
- 1:48Pina colada from Liquor Death and it tastes really nice.
- 1:52Is that a alcoholic or non alcoholic?
- 1:55Not I'm not drinking today. That's well, I say that, but I I
- 1:58know I'll get drunk later. This is not alcoholic.
- 2:02No sugar, 10 calories. Monk fruit.
- 2:06I don't know. I don't know if Liquid Death
- 2:08sponsor US place uses monk fruit.
- 2:11It's just sparkling water. It's just good, Tastes good
- 2:15liquid. Deaths everywhere man Liquid
- 2:18death is at the city match. Liquid death was at Toxie
- 2:21Premier. They're everywhere.
- 2:22Yeah, dude, we we were getting free liquid deaths.
- 2:25That's right. That's very good.
- 2:27Butter in a can. Yeah, dude, I I want to get into
- 2:32more Crimson Desert. I like what it's doing, but it
- 2:36just feels like there's and this isn't the main topic.
- 2:38I just want to talk a little bit about this though.
- 2:40It just feels like there's so much and I don't vibe with the
- 2:43story as much as I thought I may.
- 2:46So far. I like a lot of like the almost
- 2:48like medieval sci-fi elements that there are in this game.
- 2:56Yeah, it's it's strange and it's unclear, but you're right.
- 2:59I mean the story, the devs even said as much.
- 3:01They were like, the story is not where the main game is.
- 3:05The story, like the main game will happen for the player in
- 3:09between the story and like just yeah, doing the gameplay aspects
- 3:12of the missions, the story like I'm kind of coming around to it
- 3:16like it, it's not really compelling, but the like you met
- 3:22the medieval fantasy sci-fi aspects are enough to carry and
- 3:27the world is just so deep and so fun to explore and just keeps on
- 3:32giving. After I've got let me check
- 3:34right now. I can tell you I've got I have
- 3:39this many number of hours, 120 hours in the game and I am still
- 3:44discovering new things. The players across all platforms
- 3:48are still discovering new things.
- 3:51Somebody recently found a hidden vault that had a bunch of gold
- 3:54bars in it. They weren't real gold bars.
- 3:56So it wasn't that much to get excited about and they posted it
- 3:59as if they were because it's click bait.
- 4:00Stop it. If you're doing that 'cause you
- 4:02know what you're doing is wrong. And that's not true.
- 4:05And they didn't even post a location.
- 4:07That's how it's what we know that, but they're they're
- 4:10constantly the devs are still updating.
- 4:12The devs are still being very vocal about what they're doing.
- 4:15I'm still having a blast. I'm I'm about like 65% of the
- 4:19way through the main story, but there is so much beyond the
- 4:23story, so many side quests, so many adventures to go on.
- 4:27I'm loving it. This is definitely is 100% like
- 4:32the other games coming out this year are going to have to try
- 4:34pretty hard to dethrone this as being like my game of the year
- 4:38for sure. Oh shit.
- 4:40All right. I don't I don't know if any
- 4:42other game coming out this year has a chance.
- 4:44Like even if Forza 6 is incredible and the best Forza
- 4:49game, I still don't think it it'll be more fun than Crimson
- 4:53Desert is now. That's crazy.
- 4:54I need to play more I, I. I get it though, it's a lot.
- 4:59Well I went right from replaced to mouse Pi and now I'm in
- 5:03Pragmata and I'm also lightly touching on Crimson.
- 5:06But I'm wondering, you know, with my new Steam controller, if
- 5:10I'm going to be able to like it with some, maybe some touchpad
- 5:14motion in the game with the bow and arrow.
- 5:16And there is a lot I'm I'm excited to try.
- 5:19That's a game I didn't even think about trying with my new
- 5:21controller until. Have you played anything with it
- 5:24yet? Pragmata do.
- 5:26You have some first impressions. I did that on the last episode.
- 5:29I'll do it again. OK.
- 5:30All right. No, no, it's OK this.
- 5:32It was like mere hours ago. Yes, yes, we're in the future.
- 5:36This is great. This is we like you wouldn't
- 5:40think with how like chunk it looks your hands though.
- 5:43And like I said in the last episode, they land right where
- 5:45they need to land. That's great.
- 5:47Like your fingers land right where you think they should.
- 5:51The controller feels great. It looks great.
- 5:54I, I, I love it. This potentially will replace my
- 5:58Xbox controller and it's cool because like I said, the puck
- 6:02when I'm done with it, I throw it on top of the charger.
- 6:04It charges it when I'm when I want to play.
- 6:06I pull it off the charger. I play it.
- 6:09It's it's, it's wonderful. It's great.
- 6:12How awesome. Controller.
- 6:14We both have Steam decks, so the thing that I was wondering the
- 6:18whole time is if you compare the feel of holding the controller
- 6:22to the feel of holding a steam deck, how similar is that
- 6:25feeling? 100%.
- 6:26It's the same. Same material, same feel.
- 6:30If you like the Steam Deck, you will like this controller.
- 6:33This is a Steam Deck. It condensed down to a
- 6:35controller without the. Script that's good that's good I
- 6:37mean I just I can't personally justify it because I never ever
- 6:41use the touch pads yeah the only time I ever use the touch pad is
- 6:44in desktop mode and if I'm on my PC I'm within arms reach of my
- 6:48mouse and keyboard so why would I necessarily.
- 6:50Totally. Totally get it.
- 6:52May you know my dream set up for entertainment center is a small
- 6:59PC. So maybe maybe that Steam Deck
- 7:02controller or Steam controller is going to fit that use case.
- 7:07But you know, until then, I'm glad they're making.
- 7:09I'm glad Valve is working to stop scalpers.
- 7:13They continue to be very pro consumer.
- 7:16Did you see what they did? Yeah, they, they restricted
- 7:20people from buying it. If you have like any active
- 7:22bands on your account, that's and.
- 7:26If you purchase this the first round, you couldn't purchase
- 7:30this one. I was like good.
- 7:33I was like good. I don't why do it was a limit of
- 7:36two. So you you had your option to
- 7:38get 2 that day, you got 1. That you're.
- 7:41I feel like that's valid. It's fair, It's fair because
- 7:43when once once more come in, we can all we can all get more if
- 7:46we want. Yeah, there will always be more
- 7:48later. They see the demand for it.
- 7:50What they're doing is really good, I think, and other
- 7:54companies should take note. And I think this is, I think
- 7:59what we're seeing here is a shift in company policy to
- 8:05combat scalping, which yes, I think ultimately is going to
- 8:09work and scalping needs to go away.
- 8:11And yes, you can't legislate against it.
- 8:14So the companies have to try to. They have to do.
- 8:18Their own thing. Scalping as much as possible.
- 8:20So I I I really like to see it it.
- 8:22It is a bit of hope that some companies do actually care about
- 8:27the. Consumer, and I know I'm a Valve
- 8:30shill, but I love them. I like.
- 8:32What they look we got to call out.
- 8:35We got to call out good things like Valve is on the whole, a
- 8:38good company. They do have many problems,
- 8:41including supporting what I believe to be the largest
- 8:45gambling economy on the Internet, perhaps.
- 8:49Knives. Yeah, which is predatory and has
- 8:53many, many problems, yes, But you know, you can't, we can't,
- 8:58you know, you can't ignore the good things just because there
- 9:01are also bad things, that there's just so much nuance to
- 9:03this kind of stuff. But yes anyway.
- 9:07Anyways, on to our main topic. Let's do it, buddy.
- 9:12Yes. It's your topic, why don't you
- 9:15give us a lead here? OK, so we've had this idea in
- 9:20the can for a while. I don't think it would be a
- 9:23stretch to say that movies based on video games are peaking.
- 9:27Currently, you have the success of the Super Mario Brothers
- 9:30movies, the Fallout series, The Last of Us series, Even the
- 9:35Uncharted movie I think is pretty good with Tom Holland.
- 9:39I never played Uncharted. So you can, you know, add us in
- 9:42the e-mail or whatever. However, the thing that I'm
- 9:47noticing, the thing that I remember a lot of my childhood
- 9:50gaming was playing video games that were based on movies.
- 9:55And there's a a wide range of video game based on movies.
- 10:02I don't want to say video game adaptations because that
- 10:05typically means the movie based on the game, but it used to be
- 10:09very often you would, a movie would come out and there would
- 10:12be at least one, sometimes up to like 3 games would come out
- 10:16sharing the title of the movie and they'd be could be used as
- 10:20cross promotion and advertisement.
- 10:24But more often than not, the game would be a a game similar
- 10:31but not quite the same as a movie as the movie that it came
- 10:34out with. So like I said, in my
- 10:39experience, most of these games I play, these are the first
- 10:42games I was playing was on a Game Boy Advance and a lot of
- 10:46them, a lot of them came from THQ and Disney Interactive.
- 10:50Yeah. Disney Interactive is kind of
- 10:52spinning up now. They've had a few games in the
- 10:54past in the in the recent past, but they used to crank out these
- 10:59platformers based on their IPS. The one of my favorite games of
- 11:04all time is a Brother Bear platformer that was on Gameboy
- 11:08Advanced. It is nearly a perfect
- 11:11platformer. It doesn't necessarily have to
- 11:14do that much with the plot of the movie, despite the fact that
- 11:16there are super compressed video clips from the movie with stock
- 11:21audio, because they couldn't put the audio on the cartridge
- 11:25because it was too much. They were a little bit limited.
- 11:27You'd get like a Lilo and Stitch game where Stitch drives around
- 11:31in a car like doing Mario Kart stuff.
- 11:33Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Like there was a Kim Possible
- 11:35game that featured a Rufus mini game where it was the IT was 3D.
- 11:41Oh my God. Yeah, it was incredible.
- 11:43And he would like you would crawl around in the pipes.
- 11:46They had these ideas, but historically there's precedent
- 11:50for this too. One of the most legendary games
- 11:53from the N64 era. Goldeneye.
- 11:56Based on the movie, but has almost nothing to do with the
- 11:58movie. Nope.
- 12:00And then, you know, from there, I mean, did you, did you ever
- 12:04play any games like that that were sort of direct ties to a
- 12:07movie? Yeah, Chronicles of Riddick,
- 12:10Escape from Butcher Bay was one of my favorite games growing up.
- 12:13I loved that game a lot. Mad Max.
- 12:18Mad Max, you. Mean Mad Max the 1 from 2015.
- 12:23Yes. Yeah, I think that was in Yeah,
- 12:26that one. So it's it's, it's a bit
- 12:29complicated. Like when I was looking into
- 12:32this, it's like you have movies come out with a game sharing the
- 12:36title you have. So you're talking about more so
- 12:39along the lines of like Catwoman?
- 12:41Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:43I'm. Talking about that, but also we
- 12:45we're going to get into like movie IPS, like IPS that start
- 12:49as movies and then move into games and then Spider Man.
- 12:52Two, then, yeah. Yeah, Spider Man 2.
- 12:55See, I also played well, which Spider Man 2?
- 12:58Because I played Spider Man 2 on the Gameboy Advance.
- 13:01PS1 was that PS1 game. There is Spider Man 2 was a
- 13:05PlayStation two game. Yes.
- 13:07Then it was on the PS2. Yeah, Spider Man. 2 It gets a
- 13:09bit complicated. It gets very dicey here.
- 13:13The spider man 2, amazing Game Boy game.
- 13:15Most of the most of my experience with these direct
- 13:18movie tie insurance are older games that were platformers.
- 13:24I remember the Transformers, Transformers 2, that there was a
- 13:29game that came out, I think I played it on the Wii and it was
- 13:33like, it was like a shot for shot remake of the movie.
- 13:38And then you would like run around in an area and collect
- 13:41things or fight a bunch of enemies and then it would move
- 13:44on to the next scene in the movie.
- 13:48And I, I feel like that's sort of a lost art in a way.
- 13:53Now, nowadays it's more like you'll have a game like Mad Max,
- 13:59which is based on the IP, based on the world and even contains
- 14:03characters from the movie, but it's mostly unrelated.
- 14:07It's got aspects of it that are completely different than the
- 14:11current run of movies or the the game that I have loved since it
- 14:16came out, the Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, which is set
- 14:21simultaneously in the same time as the movies and the same world
- 14:25as the movies and intersects its plot with the plot of the
- 14:29movies. So much so that in the DLC we
- 14:32saw the the final battle from the first movie as a cut scene
- 14:38in the DLC, which is really cool.
- 14:40It's it's really cool to see that.
- 14:41I think they sometimes these things, they offer like a new
- 14:45idea to make it to make this world more interactive.
- 14:51Even Dune, Dune Awakening coming out it, they were very clear
- 14:56that this world of Arakis that they build is based on the 2021
- 15:02movie and subsequent sequels. So you get so you get nowadays
- 15:07it's more like IP focus games. Like do you have any any
- 15:11standouts for those? For yeah, OK, so for IP Focus
- 15:15games, then yes, it was definitely Mad Max was like that
- 15:19one where I remember being like, there's no way it's going to be
- 15:22good. And then I saw the trailers
- 15:24like, OK, this could be sweet possibly.
- 15:26And then I played, I was like just sucked into it immediately.
- 15:29Doing awakening was a was a great time for you and I because
- 15:33we, we, we had the opportunity to explore a world in which we
- 15:36loved. We love a Rakus, we love Dune,
- 15:38we love what Frank Herbert's built for us.
- 15:40And now we've gotten to play in that sandbox, literally that
- 15:43sandbox and see Shai Haloud and you know, it's, it was great,
- 15:49man. But like I remember playing
- 15:51X-Men Origins Wolverine. Yep, that game kicks the shit
- 15:55out of the movie and it's so good as an adaptation for yeah,
- 16:03for me, it was definitely like Mad Max like IP related.
- 16:07It would it would have been like Mad Max Dune as of late.
- 16:10It would be Dune. And then like X-Men Origins
- 16:13Wolverine where the game is said.
- 16:14I played and I was like, wow, you can do this.
- 16:16Well, because the problem with like, even just like based on IP
- 16:20or based on the actual movie itself was you, you would run
- 16:24into the games that would just get pumped out.
- 16:26So you had your Charlie's Angels, you had your Fight Club,
- 16:29you had, I liked the Warriors from Rockstar.
- 16:31Like I thought that was good. Like the game based on that
- 16:35movie The Warriors, I thought that was good.
- 16:37But you unfortunately did have, yeah, come out and play.
- 16:43But you did have your, like, Alien Colonial Marines where it
- 16:45was like, this could have been good, but like, this sucked.
- 16:48And it was figured out that it was one line of code in the
- 16:52fucking whole game that was made it bad.
- 16:55Yeah. And that that line of code got
- 16:57modded and fixed. And the game was actually pretty
- 16:58decent. But like, I always found that
- 17:02those games even, like, based on IP, it always felt like rush
- 17:06development, Get it out the door before the thing hits the
- 17:08theaters or right when it hits theaters.
- 17:10That way people will buy it when the thing comes out in the
- 17:13theaters and boom, we made our money.
- 17:14Doesn't matter if it's good or bad.
- 17:16That's how I felt about these things.
- 17:19And it all kicks off with a little game called ET.
- 17:23That's right. Well, it's.
- 17:25Killed the. Industry.
- 17:27Yeah. ET Tremendous flop.
- 17:28It's one of the very earliest video game adaptations of a
- 17:33film. The first one actually comes
- 17:36from Star Trek The Motion Picture.
- 17:38And. You know, when you look back at
- 17:42these things, like sometimes it's literally a point and click
- 17:45adventure based on the movie. Like there's a Dune.
- 17:49There's a Dune game. Speaking of that is literally
- 17:52just a pointing click of the of the David Lynch.
- 17:58Isn't that Dune 2? I think so, yeah.
- 18:00Dune. Well, they did a Dune 2 game
- 18:02that was the sequel to David Lynch's Dune.
- 18:05Yeah, and it's it is very just you remember the movie like here
- 18:10it is, but you have to click every once in a while.
- 18:12Yeah. And then the ET game is like,
- 18:15it's amazing that they even tried anything after it.
- 18:18It was so bad they, you know, they buried them all in the
- 18:21desert. There's a whole, yeah, there's a
- 18:24whole documentary on the ET thing and it boils down to them
- 18:27going, we need a game for the holiday season.
- 18:31Hey, Tom, go make this ET thing. Yep.
- 18:34And it was done in like what, a couple weeks or or something
- 18:37like that? Not long at all.
- 18:38Less than a year for sure. I think it was a couple weeks
- 18:41dude, like the dude cranked the shit out in a few weeks to a
- 18:44week. I I'd have to I I don't remember
- 18:46the documentary specifically, but like it was not good for
- 18:52this person. And but yeah, ET almost killed
- 18:55the industry. Crazy.
- 18:57If you think of like those, like staple movies, your, your
- 19:01Jurassic Park, your Alien, Aliens, Rambo, The Goonies,
- 19:07every one of those has some sort of video game adaptation.
- 19:13They go back all the way to like the the early 80s, you know,
- 19:17that's sort of when this started, when computer games
- 19:21started to become more of a big deal.
- 19:23But there are so many. And some of them, like I said,
- 19:28some of them have multiple versions of a game based on the
- 19:33same movie because they came out on different consoles.
- 19:36So like, yeah, like we just like we mentioned, like Spider Man 2
- 19:40came out of the Gameboy Advanced and the PlayStation 2.
- 19:44And Xbox. They're both yeah and Xbox.
- 19:46They're both based on the same movie, but they're wildly
- 19:49different games. Yeah, Spider Man 2 is one of
- 19:53those great examples of like it done right because like you have
- 19:56the IP, which is Spider Man. OK, Right.
- 19:59Let's adapt that to a game. OK, So what do you, what do
- 20:02players want to do? Well, we want to swing around
- 20:04New York. I want to stop crime and that's
- 20:07I want to be able to pick a car up and throw it.
- 20:09I'm Spider man. So that's what they did and
- 20:11that's why it worked and it was good and the story was fluent
- 20:14and transparent and it was like, cool, this is good.
- 20:17Then you go into your things like the Hulk.
- 20:19That game fucking sucked in my opinion.
- 20:22I played that game, it was fun to just run around and be the
- 20:24Hulk. It's cool until it's not.
- 20:28Until they have to remember that it's based on the movie that was
- 20:31not very good. Yeah, but like, again, I go back
- 20:35to like the games like Chronicle of Riddick and Wolverine and
- 20:38even even since you brought up Jurassic Park, I'll bring up
- 20:41Trespasser. Jurassic Park Trespasser is one
- 20:44of like those first like crazy FPS games that was on PC that
- 20:50like it wasn't good but bits and pieces of Trespasser were used
- 20:56in games that we now love and know because the mechanics being
- 21:02built upon it. Aren't they doing it again?
- 21:04They're making like another. It's like an Alien Isolation
- 21:08style or game based in Jurassic Park.
- 21:12I, I think so. And if I think that would work
- 21:14well, I I Jurassic Park is perfect for something like that.
- 21:17Yeah. And I'd love to see more shit
- 21:20like that. I would love to see like more
- 21:22IPS like Jurassic Park, fucking Alien.
- 21:25I mean, aliens got isolation, Alien versus the Alien versus
- 21:29Predator series, dude. Like those games were awesome.
- 21:33Like I always give flowers to AVP too so I I feel like IP is
- 21:38in gaming need to work but it's if you give it to the right
- 21:42team. Yeah, nowadays, like, like I had
- 21:46said, it's it's very much based on the IP.
- 21:50One other game that I played to death and I think is an
- 21:54incredible use of an IP adaptation like that is Hogwarts
- 22:00Legacy, which is of course, those movies are based on a
- 22:03book, you know? But what what I think for the
- 22:09most part, like what these games do is they you have the world
- 22:13that you see on screen and it allows you to sort of exist
- 22:16within that. Well, it expands that world for
- 22:19you too. Yeah, like it expands it to the
- 22:22point where. OK, well now I'm at Hogwarts.
- 22:25So what is Hogwarts like? And now you get to see what?
- 22:28You get to be Hogwarts, but you get to see it.
- 22:30Makes you feel like Hogwarts. It makes you feel like Hogwarts,
- 22:34but you get to see what it's like.
- 22:35And it's cool, because in Hogwarts Legacy, you're not
- 22:38Harry fucking Potter. No, the games.
- 22:40You're you. You're the student.
- 22:42Yeah, a a lot of the time what these games will do is set you
- 22:49with some distance from the movie so that sometimes it's to
- 22:54avoid like plot problems. Sometimes it's to avoid like
- 22:59messing up any continuity, you know, other times a developer
- 23:05kind of gets like the blessing from the director or the creator
- 23:09or the author, the writers of a movie to really, really get in
- 23:15there and like be in the continuity.
- 23:17Frontiers of Pandora is a huge example of that because we saw
- 23:22it came out I think just after the second movie and in between
- 23:27the second movie coming out, the game coming out and the third
- 23:31movie. In the third movie, there are
- 23:34certain aspects that you will have only seen present if you
- 23:38played the game. Which is awesome.
- 23:40Which is incredible. It just it like it goes to show
- 23:42like in my opinion, that is the perfect ecosystem of movies and
- 23:49video games together. Is that IP?
- 23:52It's so like so suited for that kind of integration.
- 23:59Well shit, dude, we got fucking games like Star Wars, we got IPS
- 24:03like we got an IP like Star Wars, right?
- 24:05So with Star Wars, there's so much to do.
- 24:07You got fucking Star Wars dark forces, you got galaxies, you
- 24:11got the Jedi series that's out currently.
- 24:13You got Knights of the Old Republic and.
- 24:16Like pod racing game coming up? Pod racing Jedi.
- 24:18Oh my God. Squadrons.
- 24:21Squadrons and fucking bounty hunter and there's so many games
- 24:26in that IP, that franchise that work and help add more to what
- 24:33Star Wars is, which is an ever expanding universe.
- 24:37And I, I, I get excited every time I see something Star Wars
- 24:40related cause like OK cool. Like, I would love to just be a
- 24:43Mandalorian though, right? Like I, I want more games like
- 24:46that. I don't need to be a Jedi, but I
- 24:48love, like being the Smuggler. I love being like a Mandalorian.
- 24:51And that's like when I was playing Galaxies back in the
- 24:55day, 'cause you can still play Galaxies.
- 24:57But yeah, there's a whole thing to it now.
- 25:01But I loved that because you can go down different paths.
- 25:03Do you want to be a Smuggler? Do you want to work for the
- 25:04huts? Do you want to do, do you want
- 25:06to be a Jedi? If so, then this is the path you
- 25:09have to go. And you have to go to different
- 25:10parts of the Galaxy, meet up with different players, and
- 25:12they'll help you. And that was cool.
- 25:14But then you run into things like IPS, like The Matrix,
- 25:18right, where those adaptations weren't so great in video games,
- 25:22but they should be. And then from the Matrix, it
- 25:26spawned something like The Matrix Online, which was again,
- 25:29supposed to be great, but it really wasn't.
- 25:33And. Not quite.
- 25:34No, I, I mean, I loved it. I have the box over there.
- 25:38I would love to see a resurgence and things like The Matrix
- 25:40getting more video games. Like they had that like Unreal
- 25:43Engine 5 demo not too long ago and it was just like nothing.
- 25:47But I would love to see more things like that.
- 25:50There's just so much Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, like,
- 25:53there's so much we could do. Yeah, there's the, I mean, it's
- 25:57all these movies that come out, they have such like rich world
- 26:00building and you always want to see something more fleshed out.
- 26:03I think a game is a great way to do that.
- 26:06If you can't or don't want to make another movie based on on a
- 26:11thing, if you don't feel it needs a sequel, you can always
- 26:14make a game and set it in the world and you can explore other
- 26:18aspects without having to make something different or reuse
- 26:22your characters. You can explore a different time
- 26:26in that same world. There's another sort of category
- 26:31that's a little bit special. It's a little bit more different
- 26:34because they are direct tie insurance to movies, even going
- 26:40as far as to use audio from said movies.
- 26:43And those are the Lego video games.
- 26:46It started with. It started with Lego Lord of the
- 26:49Rings, which is the first one to take dialogue and audio directly
- 26:53from the movie before that. And since then, sometimes
- 26:57they'll do either they'll have like dialogue from the movie or
- 27:01like kind of grunts and noises instead of full on voice acting.
- 27:08The, it was Lord of the Rings did it.
- 27:11I know that the Jurassic World games all did it, but they're
- 27:16the only games I could think of that like fully do that.
- 27:19And I think they, they work it in to the comedy, like it's kind
- 27:22of in the Lord of the Rings game, Like it's, it's kind of
- 27:25funny because you're, you know, it's a Lego game, so you're
- 27:27breaking everything and then like your character dies and you
- 27:31hear like Viggo Mortensen scream happen.
- 27:35It's, it's very jarring and very funny.
- 27:39But they're sort of in a, in a category all their own because
- 27:43they are direct tie insurance. You're seeing like sometimes
- 27:47shot for shot remakes in Lego and the sound is just ripped
- 27:51right from the movie. Star Wars does it one of like
- 27:55for for me, the first Lego tie in game I played was Star Wars.
- 27:59All of those games when they were dropping and I and I loved
- 28:02it. I always thought it it.
- 28:06I never thought I would like it when I was because it came out
- 28:08when I was a teenager. I was already playing things
- 28:10like God of War and Gears of War and shit like that and half life
- 28:14and all of those things. But like then I see this like
- 28:17Star Wars Lego and I have I've always loved Lego.
- 28:19I've always loved Star Wars. I'm very cool play it.
- 28:22Phantom Menace comes out and I remember playing the Star Wars
- 28:26version of it or the Lego version of Phantom Menace and
- 28:29it's that opening scene from Phantom Menace.
- 28:31And I was like, oh, this is cool.
- 28:33Like immediately I'm like, this is cool.
- 28:35You know, it's it's got it's Lego charms.
- 28:37Like when you die, it's just like your head is like.
- 28:40A. Guarantee yeah, you break into a
- 28:43million bricks and like it's, it's cool, man.
- 28:46I remember playing like the first time I really cracked up
- 28:48was I was like playing as R2D2 in one of the Lego Star Wars
- 28:52games and I blew up and he, he did the thing.
- 28:56I was like, this is cool. So it's like those are very
- 28:59special though. And like that they, they're able
- 29:01to continue 'cause now we're getting Lego Batman and so on
- 29:05and so forth. Or more Lego Batman rather.
- 29:09Or no. Yeah, just Lego Batman and.
- 29:11Well, is it different? It's very different than other.
- 29:13Lego games, it's very different, but they they are able to do it
- 29:18because the level of care and love they pour into those games,
- 29:22I feel is there opposed. You know, on the opposite end
- 29:26you got things like Lord of the Ring Gollum that comes out and
- 29:29it's like, you know, you could have made a cool Gollum game.
- 29:35Wasn't there a Kong one too? There's a King Kong one that was
- 29:39really bad. There's a Godzilla. 1.
- 29:41Like there's, there's games on everything.
- 29:44It's crazy to me that the legendary universe that they've
- 29:47built of the, you know, the monsters, the Godzilla universe
- 29:52that they've built is so good and somehow a King Kong game
- 29:54comes out and it's horrible. Well, even like the fighters
- 29:57game because there's like King Kong, Godzilla fighting name
- 30:00where you can like battle against like Mothra, Rodan and
- 30:05all that shit. Or yeah, Rodan.
- 30:08Rodan, King Ghidorah. King Ghidorah.
- 30:10Yeah, yeah, yeah. And even those games to me, I'm
- 30:13like, this is just so bad, dude. It's just not good.
- 30:16It's not fun. And I need I just how do you not
- 30:19make a cool Zilla game? I don't know, I mean, it's, it's
- 30:23because like I think people nowadays like games are required
- 30:27to be so much more Back in the day, like you could just make a
- 30:32platformer with Godzilla and and call it the Godzilla movie tie
- 30:36in. You know, it's now you have to,
- 30:38you have to have a plot, you have to have like.
- 30:40Micro transactions. I know, I know you guys are just
- 30:45proving that, but. That's very true.
- 30:47You There has to be so much and there has to be sort of a
- 30:49justification for games now. I think just making a copy of
- 30:54the movie as a game is no longer enough.
- 30:58Yeah. Which, you know, maybe it's
- 31:00good, maybe it's not so good. You know what Godzilla would
- 31:03lend itself to really well? What?
- 31:05And I know we just talked about Jurassic Park and Alien doing
- 31:07it, but like an isolation level thing, Yeah.
- 31:10Where you are like trying to get to 1 end of the city to the
- 31:13neck. I mean, you can make it
- 31:14sprawling and huge. Yeah, but you like, Godzilla's
- 31:18just there. And it's not the Godzilla's the
- 31:20bat. It's not Godzilla's not really
- 31:22the bad guy here, guys, by the way.
- 31:24But like, you know, like you're trying.
- 31:26To fall on side guns. Depends like Shin Godzilla that
- 31:29if you want to do it, do Shin Yeah, because that would be
- 31:32sweet. You're trying to get through a
- 31:33city. It just Shin Godzilla fucking
- 31:35shit up. That would be fun.
- 31:36It would be sweet. And you have to like, that's
- 31:39what I'm saying. That'd be cool.
- 31:41But like we don't get those games.
- 31:43We never get those games. And I don't understand it
- 31:45because there's so many things like why do we not have a new
- 31:47Alien VS Predator game? When was the last?
- 31:51The last good one was AVP 2, early 2000.
- 31:54I mean they had that, they tried to do that Predator 4.
- 31:58V Grounds. Hunting grounds.
- 31:59Proving Grounds. Yeah, which is a cool.
- 32:00Like, yeah, it was cool, but it was bad, man, because like, that
- 32:05was in the hype during the fucking.
- 32:07Like, OK, here's a Jason game, here's a Michael Myers game, and
- 32:10here's like Dead by Daylight I. Didn't even think of that.
- 32:13Dead by Daylight has all those DLCS where they put in very
- 32:17famous killers from like 7. Well, Hellraiser is about to get
- 32:21its own game. Yeah, which supposedly it's,
- 32:24it's a Blum House game, I think, but supposed to be really good.
- 32:28The other one we I've talked about on the show, we talked
- 32:30about on Halloween, but the Blair Witch game.
- 32:32Incredible. Not exactly based on the movie,
- 32:35but features a lot of the stuff that you've seen the movie, you
- 32:38know, it got the IT was. Scary.
- 32:40The camera stuff, it is the same Blair Witch as as the movie
- 32:45continuity. But that sort of leads me into
- 32:49the last little bit that I want to talk about.
- 32:53Are there any movie franchises that you would like to get a
- 32:57game? And if they did, how would that
- 33:00game play out like if you wanted?
- 33:02What I thought of recently is a Predator Badlands game that
- 33:05would play out like a God of War style action adventure game.
- 33:10Yeah. And then the other one that I've
- 33:13always wished for is a Planet of the Apes game that.
- 33:17Like an actual. Yeah, like, in my mind it would,
- 33:20it would play like a Far Cry kind of thing.
- 33:23You know, you'd be going around like, liberating camps and
- 33:26freeing other apes and becoming more intelligent as you go.
- 33:30So do you have any, any hopes for something like that?
- 33:35I do, I for me. I would like to.
- 33:36I would really, really like to go back to something like The
- 33:39Matrix. I brought it up a little bit ago
- 33:41on the show, but I would really like to see the Matrix expounded
- 33:44upon and explored more. We get so much in the movies,
- 33:49but we have the opportunity now with technology and what you can
- 33:53really do in a game to explore it.
- 33:55I would love to see something like The Matrix Online come
- 33:58back. A giant fucking MMO where you
- 34:02are in the city and you can there are agents, there are
- 34:07players as agents and or just like the resistance and how cool
- 34:11is that? You don't even have to show NEO.
- 34:13I don't need to see NEO. You can like have little.
- 34:16Know he's there. Exactly, like why would you not
- 34:19do that? Like you could, I think that
- 34:22would be perfect. Or and at least at the very
- 34:24least in our PG, I want to see more Shadow of War games.
- 34:27I don't think we're ever going to see those games.
- 34:28Lord of the Rings for me. I also think like a Game of
- 34:32Thrones game in the same style as Kingdom come Deliverance
- 34:40would be awesome. Like it would be awesome.
- 34:43So many different paths you can choose and decisions you'd have
- 34:47to make that would really define your character and your play
- 34:50style. I think it would be awesome but
- 34:53date World War ZI feel like there.
- 34:56Was a World War Z? Game there was, but I would like
- 34:59to see that in almost like a Day Z style game.
- 35:02Yeah. So for you.
- 35:04Yeah. So for you, it sounds like just
- 35:07existing in these worlds is sort of the biggest thing for you.
- 35:11Existing in these worlds and learning more about the worlds
- 35:14in which I've watched and or read about.
- 35:15Yeah. Because if I can impact a little
- 35:19bit of the story and a little bit of the world.
- 35:21That's why I like Dune. The latest Dune game was so
- 35:23sweet because it feels like when you're playing, you're impacting
- 35:26the world, you're impacting what's around you and while also
- 35:30learning the politics of Arakis and like just learning what
- 35:35makes Arakis tick is really fucking special to me.
- 35:39It's really special to me and there's so many like it.
- 35:43It sucks 'cause I now I'm on the spot and I'm trying to think of
- 35:46awesome movies that I love 'cause I, I told, you know, we,
- 35:49we talk about movies and video games all the time.
- 35:51I think a a sweet ass Akira game would be cool as I got awesome
- 35:56like beat em up eraser. That would be really, really,
- 36:00really cool. I'd play here's a deep cut for
- 36:03you screen. It came from screen box fans.
- 36:06I would I would play an Adam Chaplin prototype style run
- 36:13through a hallway and just turn people into paste kind of game.
- 36:17Yeah, dude, that would be Why is there no X-Men game that plays
- 36:21like Hogwarts Legacy? Yeah, why can't I be a little
- 36:25X-Men guy in? The halls of.
- 36:28Going to Xavier's place, look. Oh yeah, there's Beast.
- 36:33Yeah, dude, why am I not at Xavier's School for the Gifted?
- 36:37Like why or why not have these games?
- 36:39That'd be awesome. Yeah, there's just.
- 36:43The problem with this topic is it's endless.
- 36:46Yeah. 'Cause we could sit all day and
- 36:48go, well this would be great and This is why.
- 36:51But like, the biggest one is Alien versus Predator for me.
- 36:54Why is there not an awesome online game right now that you
- 36:59could play that looks awesome, plays fantastically, and it's
- 37:03just a fun time where you choose to be a Marine, an alien, or a
- 37:08Predator? I was.
- 37:11Gonna say how? How would you think?
- 37:14How would that play out for you? Like the like the second one
- 37:17that came out back in the day. If you play as an Alien, you
- 37:19start as a face hugger. You skid around the map looking
- 37:23for other players. You fucking hug them, and then
- 37:26you chest burst and now you're a chest burster.
- 37:28OK, so you want to continue to grow into an alien, a xenomorph.
- 37:31Cool. You chomp away a dead body that
- 37:33you just killed. Look for the dead bodies, chomp.
- 37:36You fucking turn into a Xenomorph cool that like your
- 37:39team depends on you to do that you're or you're a colonial
- 37:42marine just killing everything or you're a predator stalking
- 37:44the map and you see a marine trying to kill a xenomorph.
- 37:48OK, So what do you kill first? It it's awesome.
- 37:51There's three different teams going at it all at once, like
- 37:54awesome arena style gameplay. But I also think a story mode
- 37:58would be cool for something like that where, you know, I think it
- 38:01focuses on a Marine and I the on Earth or wherever you have in
- 38:06Predators and the aliens are there and it's just like this
- 38:08thing that you're trying to figure out.
- 38:11Fuck the game. The thing was awesome.
- 38:14Yeah, it's a. Direct tie, yeah.
- 38:17It was a great tie and a night dive.
- 38:18Recently re released it and remastered it and it was
- 38:21awesome. So it's just, it's just endless.
- 38:24I think a lot of games you could like a action movies like
- 38:31predator Badlands is one that I think of.
- 38:32It's is a game that I think if you envision it in sort of a God
- 38:36of War style semi linear, semi open world game could be really,
- 38:42really fun. There's a lot of lore there.
- 38:45You know, you could set it in a place where there's constantly
- 38:49other monsters showing up or other creatures showing up.
- 38:54I I feel like there's sort of endless possibilities with
- 38:59certain movies, certain IPS. I I was surprised when that Tom
- 39:06Cruise movie, that Live Die, repeat Edge of Tomorrow movie
- 39:08never got anything with it, but it was kind of the enemies
- 39:13looked a lot like the enemies from Crysis 2.
- 39:16Yeah, I always, I always thought that that was strange, which
- 39:20kind of gave me a little bit of like, oh, I was like, well, if I
- 39:22want to fight these guys, I could just play Crysis 2.
- 39:25Yeah, Well, exactly. Yeah, Yeah, No, great topic,
- 39:29dude. It it, it.
- 39:30But like I said, it's endless. Yeah, you could go forever about
- 39:33that, but this is just some of some of the ideas.
- 39:36The beauty of this episode is we could bring anyone we want on
- 39:39this and it would be different. Yeah.
- 39:41They'd be like, oh, what about this and the.
- 39:43Holy shit, I didn't even think about that.
- 39:44I have a wall of movies out there.
- 39:46I can't even think of one right now where I'm like, that would
- 39:48be great. And I know.
- 39:49There's there was a, there was a toxic Avenger game or toxic
- 39:53Crusaders game that came out. Recenters that that you know,
- 39:56there's just there's so many different IPS that lend itself
- 39:59to so many different play styles too.
- 40:02Again, like for me, like games of like series like Lord of the
- 40:06rings, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, let's all really lend
- 40:10themselves perfectly to a great single player story adventure
- 40:15RPG. Lord of the rings I think would
- 40:19be a great online game though, too.
- 40:21Like MMO feel like that would be a.
- 40:23I think they did back in. The day, yeah, they did yeah,
- 40:26they did. But I, I think nowadays with the
- 40:28technology we have and like how servers are actually running
- 40:31now, I feel like a lot of these games, I guess Matrix Online,
- 40:34Lord of the Rings Online and Star Wars Galaxies, I feel like
- 40:37they could exist again in a grand fashion.
- 40:42And I think I think there's a lot of games that we're missing
- 40:44like that because I don't want to go back to Wow.
- 40:47Like, I haven't played Wow in so long and I don't really want to
- 40:49go back. So.
- 40:52Oh man. Well honey, yeah, no, thanks for
- 40:55bringing this up. I'm glad I got to have you on
- 40:58this week. Well, in the future WA.
