- 0:22Speaker 1: You are listening to Eagles postgame analysis here at the
- 0:24Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly
- 0:28Speaker 1: sports podcast show.
- 0:29Speaker 2: In the world, twelve and a half year strong.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Wow in this Philadelphia Eagles team beating the Washington Commanders
- 0:37Speaker 1: here in week sixteen on Saturday by a score of
- 0:40Speaker 1: twenty nine to eighteen in an incredibly baffling game in
- 0:47Speaker 1: so many ways. We saw some good stuff in this
- 0:49Speaker 1: game from the Eagles as well. We're gonna dive into
- 0:52Speaker 1: our themes and we're gonna great each unit as well.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I'm Jeff Warren here at.
- 0:56Speaker 1: My good buddy from Philadelphia soccernow dot com.
- 0:59Speaker 2: He's filling in for the guys.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Always appreciate him doing so when Len and Eric are
- 1:03Speaker 1: unable to join for the postgame shows, which quite frankly
- 1:06Speaker 1: is a lot this season. We got our good friend
- 1:09Speaker 1: Josh Schuster here, buddy, Thank you, my friend. I appreciate
- 1:12Speaker 1: you taking the time as always.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Yeah, my pleasure as always.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Well, look, folks, the Eagles have now become the first
- 1:21Speaker 1: team to repeat as NFC East champions since they won
- 1:26Speaker 1: the division titles from two thousand and one to two
- 1:29Speaker 1: thousand and four. So yes, they win the division, their
- 1:33Speaker 1: division champions, and this was a win again beating the
- 1:37Speaker 1: Commanders down in Washington by a score of twenty nine
- 1:39Speaker 1: to eighteen. But I felt, once again, as we have
- 1:43Speaker 1: felt a number of times this season, Josh, that offensively
- 1:47Speaker 1: it wasn't the most convincing win. So I'd like to
- 1:50Speaker 1: start off by talking about one word or or if
- 1:53Speaker 1: we have one word to describe this Eagles offense today,
- 1:58Speaker 1: because it was truly, for me, baffling. That's my one word.
- 2:03Speaker 1: This Eagles offense was baffling. I feel like after last week,
- 2:07Speaker 1: after they played an incredibly surgical type of game against Ada, Yes,
- 2:11Speaker 1: an inferior team like the Las Vegas Raiders, and they
- 2:14Speaker 1: should have beat the Raiders and they did.
- 2:15Speaker 2: They did everything they needed.
- 2:16Speaker 1: To last week. In Week fifteen, this week, I feel
- 2:19Speaker 1: like there was regression. There was so many baffling things
- 2:22Speaker 1: going on from an offensive standpoint. Run blocking again is terrible,
- 2:25Speaker 1: which we're going to get into the play calling, play
- 2:29Speaker 1: design concepts, just terrible by Kevin Patulo once again, in
- 2:34Speaker 1: so many ways. I'm baffled here in Week sixteen by
- 2:38Speaker 1: how this offense is. That's the one word I'm going
- 2:40Speaker 1: to use to describe this offense. What's your one word
- 2:42Speaker 1: and why?
- 2:42Speaker 4: Buddy, Well, I don't know that I have one word, Okay,
- 2:48Speaker 4: I would just kind of say a phrase. Inability to
- 2:51Speaker 4: play sixty minutes. We talked about it before. You know,
- 2:57Speaker 4: last week they played a full sixty minutes and you
- 2:59Speaker 4: thought for sure they would be able to do this
- 3:02Speaker 4: again against the bad team that wound up being down
- 3:05Speaker 4: to their third string quarterback tonight, and they.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Can't do it. Jeff, I just looked it up.
- 3:13Speaker 4: The Eagles have been able to score thirty or more
- 3:16Speaker 4: points four times this season. It's twenty twenty five. I
- 3:21Speaker 4: don't feel like asking the team to average. I don't
- 3:28Speaker 4: know what, like thirty points is crazy. They're not anywhere
- 3:34Speaker 4: near that.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Now. I mean, Jay Galliott.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Missed some field goals tonight, which we'll get into later,
- 3:42Speaker 4: and that would put them over thirty. But again you're
- 3:45Speaker 4: talking about that would make it five times that this team,
- 3:50Speaker 4: and some of these include defensive touchdowns. So whether you
- 3:53Speaker 4: give the points tonight to make it over thirty points,
- 3:58Speaker 4: then there's one or two games the seas and where
- 4:00Speaker 4: you're taking points off and they haven't hit that thirty
- 4:02Speaker 4: thirty point mark.
- 4:03Speaker 3: So you know, with.
- 4:07Speaker 4: The number of games that they've played, they've they've won
- 4:10Speaker 4: ten games, and in half of them they've been able
- 4:12Speaker 4: to score thirty points. It's just, and I say it
- 4:16Speaker 4: over and over again, I'm harsher on the offense because
- 4:19Speaker 4: that's where the money is invested. Right, And we were
- 4:24Speaker 4: talking before the game started. This is a prime example
- 4:28Speaker 4: of where the score kind of tells a lie. Right,
- 4:30Speaker 4: sometimes stats lie. Like I will use Dak Prescott as
- 4:34Speaker 4: an example of this. His game last week, he throws
- 4:37Speaker 4: for almost three hundred yards. He did not play a
- 4:41Speaker 4: good game, right, he didn't play a good game. He
- 4:43Speaker 4: doesn't get any touchdowns or anything, but hey, he throws
- 4:45Speaker 4: for like three hundred yards.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Cool, doesn't mean anything.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Last week Jalen the same way, the stats don't look spectacular,
- 4:53Speaker 4: doesn't throw for two hundred yards, but he gets three touchdowns, right, Like,
- 4:57Speaker 4: stats can score, can lie.
- 4:59Speaker 3: And that's this. It was fourteen to ten at the
- 5:02Speaker 3: end of the third quarter.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Look, last week when we had our good friend Matt
- 5:08Speaker 1: Rodgers on doing the postgame show, one of the first
- 5:12Speaker 1: things I said in terms of because we wanted to
- 5:14Speaker 1: see a change with the offense last week, some sort
- 5:16Speaker 1: of change we wanted to see.
- 5:17Speaker 2: We saw a lot of it.
- 5:19Speaker 1: And the first thing, and again it was something simple,
- 5:22Speaker 1: was the fact that we didn't see Tyler Steen slapping
- 5:25Speaker 1: the back of Cam Jurgens to snap the ball. And
- 5:29Speaker 1: I said, that was just so welcoming to not see that,
- 5:33Speaker 1: because you're not notifying the defense when the ball is
- 5:35Speaker 1: going to be snapped. And it amazed me how we
- 5:39Speaker 1: saw the complete opposite. They just went back to it.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Whenever the offense was in shotgun or pistol, Tyler Steen
- 5:45Speaker 1: was giving Cam Jurgens that slap on the back to
- 5:47Speaker 1: snap the ball. I don't know why they got back
- 5:50Speaker 1: to doing this and notifying the defense when the ball
- 5:54Speaker 1: was being snapped. And as a result, too, you're failing
- 5:58Speaker 1: to execute, especially in the first half when they absolutely
- 6:02Speaker 1: could not get out from under themselves. I mean they
- 6:05Speaker 1: were They went into halftime losing ten to seven. Yes,
- 6:09Speaker 1: I know they ended up winning at the end of
- 6:11Speaker 1: the day, but you needed some sort of momentum from
- 6:14Speaker 1: this offense. They didn't get it. And quite frankly, and
- 6:17Speaker 1: I may go off a little bit here, Josh okay,
- 6:19Speaker 1: so it may go in a couple different directions, but
- 6:22Speaker 1: the team desperately needs Lane Johnson back, and yes, he's
- 6:25Speaker 1: probably not going to be one hundred percent, but they
- 6:28Speaker 1: cannot get him back soon enough. Run blocking is just
- 6:33Speaker 1: absolutely terrible at this point. Fred Johnson with a holding
- 6:36Speaker 1: call in that touchdown pass in the third quarter, just terrible.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Landon Dickerson with a ton of penalties. This Eagles offense
- 6:43Speaker 1: penalized most in the NFL all season. But then how
- 6:47Speaker 1: about that Saquon Barkley touchdown run?
- 6:50Speaker 2: How about that?
- 6:51Speaker 1: How about that touchdown run? It goes to show that
- 6:54Speaker 1: he is absolutely not cooked. And it's so bizarre how
- 6:59Speaker 1: it doesn't even feel like he is over a thousand
- 7:03Speaker 1: yards this season, because he needed sixty yards in this
- 7:07Speaker 1: game to top one thousand yards for the fifth time
- 7:09Speaker 1: in his career, and he absolutely did it. And by again,
- 7:13Speaker 1: like these long runs in this game, they weren't because
- 7:16Speaker 1: the offensive line was blocking, well, it was because of
- 7:20Speaker 1: his particular skill. This offensive line just is not capable
- 7:26Speaker 1: of effective run blocking at this point. And I do wonder,
- 7:30Speaker 1: I just want to throw this out there. It's not
- 7:31Speaker 1: necessarily how I'm feeling, but I do wonder if it's
- 7:34Speaker 1: time to be officially concerned about Landon Dickerson and about
- 7:38Speaker 1: Cam Jurgen's long term here, or if it's just their
- 7:43Speaker 1: season injuries that they've been dealing with and they need
- 7:47Speaker 1: some long term health here. I know there's a lot
- 7:49Speaker 1: to unpack there, but I saw Saquon Barkley doing some
- 7:52Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley stuff where he didn't need the offensive line.
- 7:55Speaker 1: He was able to produce in this game because of
- 7:57Speaker 1: his skill in spite of the offensive line. This team
- 8:00Speaker 1: needs Lane Johnson back in a big way. I know
- 8:03Speaker 1: I threw a lot out there. I don't know if
- 8:05Speaker 1: you have any thoughts here.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Yeah, So I'm going to tackle each to your points here,
- 8:10Speaker 4: pun intended. So first with the slapping, I brought up
- 8:17Speaker 4: the fact. Brought up the fact with you. It's because
- 8:20Speaker 4: they're on the road. If you go and you watch,
- 8:23Speaker 4: this is what happens last week. They're at home, it's quiet.
- 8:26Speaker 4: They don't need to do it. So that's one thing
- 8:30Speaker 4: you said. I don't know why they're doing it because
- 8:33Speaker 4: they're on the road, and this is how they have
- 8:35Speaker 4: to communicate because the quarterback very clearly does not like
- 8:38Speaker 4: to be under center, which is fine. That's a whole
- 8:40Speaker 4: separate conversation I actually am on the opposite side with
- 8:45Speaker 4: Lane Johnson.
- 8:46Speaker 3: He needs the rest next week. Okay, the likelihood of
- 8:49Speaker 3: the number two.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Seed, I mean, unless a bunch of dominoes fall, like
- 8:53Speaker 4: we're gonna have to go into Dallas cowboy fandom delusion
- 8:57Speaker 4: in order for us to really think that the two
- 8:59Speaker 4: seeds is a viable thing, that's going to happen, right right, Okay,
- 9:03Speaker 4: So I need a healthy Wayne Johnson come playoffs. I
- 9:08Speaker 4: don't need him with two games left of the season
- 9:11Speaker 4: that is basically meaningless football against the Buffalo Bills.
- 9:15Speaker 3: I don't need that with Saquon.
- 9:22Speaker 4: I'm not saying Saquon is washed when I say this,
- 9:25Speaker 4: but what I am saying is, I don't think the
- 9:27Speaker 4: people that argue the two thousand yard season and then
- 9:32Speaker 4: what happens next year are necessarily wrong because you did
- 9:35Speaker 4: bring up the touchdown. But I'll counter your touchdown with
- 9:39Speaker 4: the fourth quarter he breaks off that long run and
- 9:43Speaker 4: he can't get it in the end zone. That didn't
- 9:45Speaker 4: happen last year, right with Saquon was gone. He's gone.
- 9:49Speaker 4: What I'm saying is, I think this is one of
- 9:52Speaker 4: those situations where both things can be true. Okay, my
- 9:57Speaker 4: fourth thing that is a they take away from it
- 10:02Speaker 4: is something I actually heard on the radio before the
- 10:05Speaker 4: game even started. The Eagles need to re sign Dallas
- 10:10Speaker 4: Goddard because they already have a ton of positions that
- 10:16Speaker 4: they need to draft. They cannot add a tight end
- 10:20Speaker 4: to the mix. And when this team cannot run the ball,
- 10:23Speaker 4: they need Dallas Godder. They need him in the red zone,
- 10:26Speaker 4: and he very much is a safety blanket for Hurts,
- 10:29Speaker 4: which is fine, right every quarterback, your elite ones have
- 10:34Speaker 4: their like Mahomes has Kelsey right, Like, we can just
- 10:37Speaker 4: kind of go down the list as to hu Hash
- 10:40Speaker 4: in relation to the people that you mentioned on the
- 10:43Speaker 4: offensive line, I'm going to use the defense as an
- 10:46Speaker 4: example to highlight my final point here to rebuttal your
- 10:51Speaker 4: your whole thing. Have you noticed how great the defensive
- 10:55Speaker 4: line looks since Brandon Graham came back?
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yes? Yes, Do you know what I.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Think they were missing? Leadership?
- 11:02Speaker 4: The problem I think for this offense is you have
- 11:06Speaker 4: three players who are Super Bowl winning players playing on
- 11:10Speaker 4: this line and they're trying to figure out who is
- 11:14Speaker 4: going to be the leader. There's really no one since
- 11:18Speaker 4: Jason Kelcey left that's been able to do that. I
- 11:23Speaker 4: think that Jurgens is a little afraid because Hurts is
- 11:28Speaker 4: supposed to be the one that's diagnosing the defense.
- 11:32Speaker 3: The problem is, that was what Jason Kelsey did.
- 11:35Speaker 4: If you go back and watch Jason Kelce, Jason Kelsey
- 11:37Speaker 4: was the quarterback when it came to diagnosing the defense,
- 11:40Speaker 4: and all Hurts had to.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Do was just listen to whatever he was saying. That's gone.
- 11:45Speaker 4: And I don't know for as many strengths and we
- 11:47Speaker 4: can get into all the strengths Jalen Hurts has, right, Normally,
- 11:51Speaker 4: I'm wearing my Hurts Jersey right, Like, one strength of
- 11:54Speaker 4: his that he does, or one thing that is not
- 11:56Speaker 4: a strength of his that has been shown for a
- 11:59Speaker 4: little while now, is his ability to read the defense.
- 12:02Speaker 4: It's just not there. It's fine, whatever his athleticism makes
- 12:06Speaker 4: up for it. I think they're missing leadership. And I'm
- 12:10Speaker 4: not saying we need to pull Jason Kelsey out of
- 12:12Speaker 4: retirement right right, But I'm using Brandon Graham on the defense,
- 12:17Speaker 4: like that's the only thing that's changed, right, They played
- 12:22Speaker 4: bad teams before this stretch.
- 12:24Speaker 3: It's just that they have a voice in the locker room.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Yeah, those are good points. I mean, those are good points,
- 12:29Speaker 1: especially with Dallas Goddard. I mean that that is a
- 12:32Speaker 1: storyline that we're all going to need to dive into
- 12:35Speaker 1: a little bit more. Are the Eagles going to sign him?
- 12:37Speaker 1: Should they sign him? From your point and theme here
- 12:42Speaker 1: during this postgame show, it seems like it should be
- 12:45Speaker 1: an inevitability because Dallas Goddard tied up Pete Reslaf's record
- 12:50Speaker 1: for most touchdowns by a tight end in Eagles history
- 12:53Speaker 1: in this game, and they each had ten in a
- 12:57Speaker 1: season and both went to South Dakota State, by the way,
- 13:01Speaker 1: and res Lef did it in nineteen sixty five. Dallas
- 13:05Speaker 1: Gotter is key to Jalen Hurts' success on this team,
- 13:09Speaker 1: and we've seen it a number of times already this year.
- 13:12Speaker 1: So I mean, moving on as well here with themes
- 13:17Speaker 1: in this game, I think it is really safe to say,
- 13:21Speaker 1: and we talked about this before in a previous postgame show, man,
- 13:26Speaker 1: the tush push should definitely be put on the shelf
- 13:29Speaker 1: at this point under sixty eight percent at this point
- 13:32Speaker 1: effective rate this season, it's being figured out.
- 13:37Speaker 2: The strength wasn't there, The strength isn't there.
- 13:40Speaker 1: It's got they gotta put They got to put the
- 13:42Speaker 1: tush push on the shelf.
- 13:44Speaker 4: It's being officiated so closely, now, Yeah, I mean I
- 13:47Speaker 4: would be willing to bet if you pulled up statistics
- 13:50Speaker 4: they have had almost as many penalties on it as
- 13:54Speaker 4: successful tush pushes.
- 13:56Speaker 2: It's time, Yeah, it absolutely is.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Do you have any other themes from the game that
- 14:02Speaker 1: you want to dive into, whether it's offensively or defensively.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Are we able to submit a request to the NFL
- 14:11Speaker 4: that the Eagles offense only plays poor defenses, not even mediocre,
- 14:18Speaker 4: just just poor defense por defenses.
- 14:20Speaker 3: In the playoffs. That would be fantastic.
- 14:22Speaker 2: That would be great. Yes, right there we go. Great theme.
- 14:27Speaker 1: It really man the up and down of this season
- 14:31Speaker 1: when it comes to this Eagles offense and the defenses
- 14:34Speaker 1: that they have played, winning games that they should be winning,
- 14:37Speaker 1: losing games that they should win as well, and at
- 14:41Speaker 1: times winning games maybe they shouldn't have won. It really
- 14:45Speaker 1: is incredible watching this team. And I do want to
- 14:47Speaker 1: say too, it was a little disappointing to see that
- 14:50Speaker 1: scrum and fight at the end of the game to
- 14:52Speaker 1: our friend of the pod, egg Kratz said in a
- 14:55Speaker 1: tweet that he never saw Tyler Steen that angry before
- 14:59Speaker 1: you know, before his ejection that came in the fourth quarter.
- 15:03Speaker 1: After that fight broke out with a couple other Washington
- 15:06Speaker 1: Commander's players. Jamon Kinlaw was.
- 15:08Speaker 2: One of them.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I believe he said something really upset him and normally
- 15:13Speaker 1: is a very mild manner player.
- 15:15Speaker 2: They are going to come across.
- 15:16Speaker 1: But it just goes to show that these type of
- 15:19Speaker 1: divisional games are so important, so critical. This Washington Commander's
- 15:23Speaker 1: team coming into this game was four and ten. They're
- 15:26Speaker 1: not a good team. They are, they have injuries everywhere,
- 15:31Speaker 1: but they were still competitive in this game. Because I'm
- 15:33Speaker 1: not one hundred percent sure the Eagles were coached as
- 15:36Speaker 1: well as they should have been at the end of
- 15:39Speaker 1: the day.
- 15:39Speaker 2: It's my other thing.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a whole conversation that we can get into
- 15:43Speaker 4: because I'll be happy to get into that because I'm.
- 15:45Speaker 3: That's a theme this coach.
- 15:46Speaker 1: That's a theme.
- 15:47Speaker 2: I mean, it's a game.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Yeah, outside of Vic Fangio, he's going to get a
- 15:51Speaker 4: pass for me. The two other things I just quickly
- 15:55Speaker 4: want to mention is we haven't talked about special teams.
- 15:58Speaker 4: If the Eagles lost this game for as much time
- 16:00Speaker 4: as we spent talking about the offense. The special teams
- 16:02Speaker 4: would have cost them this gap, So I want to
- 16:04Speaker 4: make that abundantly clear. The second thing is the Cowboys
- 16:10Speaker 4: season is now officially over, so we can just you know,
- 16:13Speaker 4: we need to make sure that we mentioned that first.
- 16:15Speaker 4: All of the complaining that right feel. Yes, we could
- 16:19Speaker 4: be Dallas that literally traded a first and a second
- 16:23Speaker 4: round pick to not make the playoffs. Yeah, long live Jerry,
- 16:30Speaker 4: Keep living, Jerry, keep living.
- 16:33Speaker 1: That's what we need from you, buddy, Just keep living.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Special teams you mentioned, we got to dive into the
- 16:38Speaker 1: details of it more. You have will Shipley fumbling on
- 16:42Speaker 1: the opening kickoff of the game, and then subsequently later
- 16:46Speaker 1: on in the game he didn't know where he was
- 16:48Speaker 1: on another kick return when he was in the end
- 16:50Speaker 1: zone in the second quarter. That put the Eagles offense
- 16:53Speaker 1: in a pretty terrible field position. And yea, we saw
- 16:58Speaker 1: a thirty eight yard punt braidon man when the Eagles
- 17:01Speaker 1: were somewhat deep in their own territory in the fourth quarter.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Not good, not optimal. But really, the biggest issue that's
- 17:08Speaker 1: been on this team is Jake Elliott missing a forty
- 17:10Speaker 1: three yarder in the second quarter. At that point, he'd
- 17:14Speaker 1: missed like at that point, he'd missed four field goals
- 17:17Speaker 1: in the last five games. Then he missed a fifty
- 17:20Speaker 1: seven yarder that ended up not mattering because of Commander's
- 17:23Speaker 1: penalty right there during that kick right before the half,
- 17:27Speaker 1: and then he tried to kick one a few minutes
- 17:30Speaker 1: right after that, missed that fifty two yarder right before
- 17:33Speaker 1: the half. He has a liability. So he has technically
- 17:36Speaker 1: missed what is it now, six six field goals in
- 17:39Speaker 1: the last five games. He's a liability. Jake Elliott, it's
- 17:43Speaker 1: sad to say, man, he's a liability.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Here.
- 17:46Speaker 4: Just for the record, he is the thirty fourth ranked
- 17:49Speaker 4: kicker this year. Well, meaning that they could put no
- 17:53Speaker 4: one out there and they would still be better because
- 17:56Speaker 4: there's only thirty two teams that play in the NFL.
- 17:59Speaker 1: The ghost of David Acres that could put you, even
- 18:03Speaker 1: though David's still alive, still, you know, can we break
- 18:06Speaker 1: it out? I love it, I'd love it. See how
- 18:09Speaker 1: that leg is doing really special. Teams were terrible this week.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I can't wait to get to our grades. I think
- 18:15Speaker 1: we know what it's gonna be for sure, But look,
- 18:18Speaker 1: we have to talk about this defense too. You mentioned
- 18:20Speaker 1: Brandon Graham now with three sacks in the past two games.
- 18:24Speaker 1: The leadership you mentioned that he is bringing to this defense.
- 18:27Speaker 1: They're playing great. They really are playing great. I mean,
- 18:30Speaker 1: Nacobe Dean has been so fantastic to watch for the
- 18:34Speaker 1: majority of the season when he's been on the field,
- 18:36Speaker 1: but he went out in the first quarter with a
- 18:38Speaker 1: hamstring injury. Jihad Campbell came in, and it really is
- 18:42Speaker 1: because he played well. In my opinion, from what I saw,
- 18:46Speaker 1: it is a luxury to have a backup in Jihad
- 18:49Speaker 1: Campbell to take over for a guy like Nacobe Dean
- 18:52Speaker 1: when Nakobe is injured as a rookie. He was not
- 18:55Speaker 1: missing a beat at all. And the pressure that was
- 18:59Speaker 1: getting in a onto Marcus Mariota and then Josh Johnson subsequently,
- 19:05Speaker 1: the defense really was I think playing on all cylinders.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Ninety yards rushing by the Commanders in this game, one
- 19:11Speaker 1: hundred and thirty eight yards receiving and yes, I know
- 19:13Speaker 1: a lot of that, not a lot, but Josh Johnson
- 19:16Speaker 1: threw nine passes completed five for forty three yards, and
- 19:20Speaker 1: Marcus Mariota, he was his completion percentage was fifty percent.
- 19:25Speaker 1: He was seven of fourteen, this defense is playing very
- 19:29Speaker 1: very well. Quinnon Mitchell still, I think as dominant as
- 19:32Speaker 1: he is, and I think as dominant as football fans
- 19:35Speaker 1: know that he is, is one of the most underrated
- 19:38Speaker 1: players in this entire league. Cooper Degen having a great
- 19:41Speaker 1: game as well. This defense is I think the defense
- 19:44Speaker 1: is playing on all cylinders.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think we can use the defense not
- 19:49Speaker 4: to bring him back to the offense.
- 19:51Speaker 3: But when you see the.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Offense playing a bad team outside of the haters, I
- 19:57Speaker 4: mean there's a number of times this year that I've
- 19:59Speaker 4: been on where we talk about that they're playing a
- 20:01Speaker 4: bad defense, right, like this isn't anything new, And a
- 20:05Speaker 4: lot of the times we're on here talking about the
- 20:07Speaker 4: fact that it's pulling teeth to try to move the
- 20:08Speaker 4: ball down the field, the opposite is true of the defense.
- 20:12Speaker 4: I mean, three of the points today came because of
- 20:17Speaker 4: a fumbled kickoff, right, they held them to a field
- 20:21Speaker 4: goal when they were basically inside the red zone to start.
- 20:24Speaker 4: The other well, eight of the other points, so eleven
- 20:27Speaker 4: of the points tonight. The other one it was basically backups. Yeah,
- 20:32Speaker 4: a kille Ringo giving up a pass interference at the
- 20:35Speaker 4: end of the game to put him at the three.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Right, you got backups in.
- 20:38Speaker 4: So really they didn't really give up many points, right,
- 20:42Speaker 4: they gave up maybe seven? Right the defense just when
- 20:48Speaker 4: they are playing a bad offense, its lights out?
- 20:52Speaker 1: Yep, absolutely absolutely All right, buddy, Well, I think why
- 20:55Speaker 1: don't we go to break here unless you have anything
- 20:57Speaker 1: else do you want to dive into before we get
- 20:59Speaker 1: to the grades?
- 21:00Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 21:00Speaker 4: Oh, I'm gonna spend a little while when we get
- 21:02Speaker 4: to the offensive coordinator and special teams.
- 21:05Speaker 3: All right, I can tell you that much right now.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Folks, that's a threat. That is a threat from our
- 21:10Speaker 1: friend mister Shuster. That's a threat, and it's a threat
- 21:13Speaker 1: when we're gonna be going to break here. First and foremost,
- 21:17Speaker 1: if you're watching on YouTube, like and subscribe to us
- 21:21Speaker 1: here at the PSD Podcast Show, we would greatly appreciate that.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Share our podcast on YouTube with your friends and family,
- 21:28Speaker 1: Eagles fans and Philly sports fans as well. We're on
- 21:31Speaker 1: various social sites as well. Just search out Philadelphia Sports
- 21:34Speaker 1: Table and you can follow us on various social sites there.
- 21:38Speaker 1: All right, gonna take a break, and when we get back,
- 21:41Speaker 1: we're gonna get into our grades. We're grading each unit
- 21:44Speaker 1: as we do on our post game show. Stick with us,
- 21:48Speaker 1: all right, We're back with our good buddy Josh Schuster
- 21:50Speaker 1: from Philadelphia Soccer Now dot com. Philadelphia Soccer Now dot com.
- 21:55Speaker 1: If you're into watching and following the Philadelphia Union, they
- 21:58Speaker 1: do a lot of great stuff over there. The recently
- 22:00Speaker 1: leave writing about how the Union let go of some
- 22:04Speaker 1: pretty good talent right after this season. Dear Lord Len
- 22:08Speaker 1: and I got into it on our regular show this
- 22:10Speaker 1: past week. But my goodness, Josh, I know this is
- 22:13Speaker 1: Eagles post game show, but what the heck, it's really upset.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I know how like Pittsburgh Pirates fans do it.
- 22:21Speaker 2: I just year after year after year after year.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Yeah, if you aren't watching on YouTube, this is my
- 22:27Speaker 4: I'm dead inside face. It's just I get selling high
- 22:32Speaker 4: I do. But like, I just it's every year they
- 22:36Speaker 4: take their best player and they're sold. Like, don't buy
- 22:39Speaker 4: any uniform numbers or names right from the Union because
- 22:44Speaker 4: you'll enjoy him for a season or two and then
- 22:48Speaker 4: it's done. So we either get sash La two who's
- 22:50Speaker 4: in the Ring of Honor, or Alejandro Medoya, who will
- 22:53Speaker 4: be in the Ring of Honor.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Just stick with those two or Andre Blake, you can
- 22:57Speaker 3: go with three. Yes, stick with them, and that's it
- 23:00Speaker 3: because everybody else's.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Gone fantastic suggestions about the Philadelphia Union MLS soccer team
- 23:07Speaker 1: here here in Philly, who is consistently disappointing, even though
- 23:10Speaker 1: they had a pretty damn good season. Anyway, all right,
- 23:12Speaker 1: let's talk about grades here with this Eagles team as
- 23:16Speaker 1: they beat the Commanders this week and clinch the NFC
- 23:19Speaker 1: East Division title. Here in twenty twenty five, quarterback Jalen Hurts.
- 23:24Speaker 1: What are we going to grade him? He was twenty
- 23:26Speaker 1: two of thirty for one hundred and eighty five yards
- 23:29Speaker 1: average six point two yards per attempt, two touchdowns on
- 23:32Speaker 1: the day, ended with a rating of one hundred and
- 23:34Speaker 1: eleven point one Jalen Hurts this week, I'm gonna give
- 23:38Speaker 1: actually a B minus. Like you said, sometimes the numbers lie,
- 23:41Speaker 1: Sometimes the numbers don't give the full picture of what's
- 23:44Speaker 1: going on. I'm giving Jalen Hurts a B minus this week?
- 23:46Speaker 1: What do you give them?
- 23:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd say the same.
- 23:49Speaker 4: You know, he had an interception taken off the board,
- 23:51Speaker 4: and yeah, I don't necessarily mind the interception and where
- 23:55Speaker 4: it was located. In fact, I thought the defenders should
- 23:57Speaker 4: have knocked it down because they would have had the
- 24:00Speaker 4: ball way way back instead of inside the five.
- 24:03Speaker 3: But it's the throwing into double coverage. It's just.
- 24:08Speaker 4: One of the big frustrations over the last couple of
- 24:10Speaker 4: weeks is it is very clear that they are trying
- 24:13Speaker 4: to get aj Brown the ball, and when they are
- 24:16Speaker 4: forcing aj Brown the ball once again, the offense is
- 24:21Speaker 4: like pulling teeth and AJ Brown has the most targets
- 24:25Speaker 4: and it's not particularly close. It just is going hand
- 24:29Speaker 4: in hand. And I'm not saying the Eagles are better
- 24:31Speaker 4: without him, because he's a very good player. It's just
- 24:36Speaker 4: when they feel like they have to force him the ball.
- 24:38Speaker 4: I know this is wide receivers, but I'm getting to
- 24:40Speaker 4: my point. It really impacts her. It's decisions making, and
- 24:45Speaker 4: that's really what he's good at, is decision making generally
- 24:50Speaker 4: taking care of the ball, which has been a problem.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Outside of last week, it really has become a problem.
- 24:56Speaker 4: He had an interception taking off the board tonight. He
- 24:59Speaker 4: fumbled the ball that he luckily picked back up and
- 25:01Speaker 4: was able to hold on to it. But this is
- 25:03Speaker 4: a repetitive pattern of fumbles and repetitive pattern of an interception.
- 25:08Speaker 4: So I say B minus because he did have a
- 25:10Speaker 4: couple of just miraculous throws tonight that I'm looking at,
- 25:13Speaker 4: like the touchdown to god Her prime example. Yeah, I
- 25:16Speaker 4: don't know that another quarterback can necessarily make that on
- 25:20Speaker 4: the run, perfect pinpoint accuracy, and it's like, wow, look
- 25:24Speaker 4: at this, So I would say B minds.
- 25:26Speaker 1: I feel like there are times there's no there is
- 25:29Speaker 1: no gray with him. It's it's black and white. It's
- 25:31Speaker 1: either like there is a bad play or there is
- 25:33Speaker 1: one of the most miraculous things that you are going
- 25:35Speaker 1: to see in your life from an NFL quarterback. It's
- 25:38Speaker 1: it's amazing how that's working.
- 25:40Speaker 4: So yeah, and I've gone on here a lot this
- 25:42Speaker 4: year and given Jalen an A or an A plus,
- 25:45Speaker 4: but I watching tonight it was not an A or
- 25:48Speaker 4: an A plus. There were A plus moments and there
- 25:51Speaker 4: were ugh moments, and I'll go with a B minus.
- 25:53Speaker 1: All right, sounds good. Let's move to the running backs
- 25:57Speaker 1: in this game. I'm just gonna say this right off
- 25:59Speaker 1: the bat, Tank Bigsby ran the ball four times for
- 26:02Speaker 1: thirty seven yards nine point three yards per per rush.
- 26:07Speaker 2: And one touchdown.
- 26:08Speaker 1: But yes, Saquon Barkley ran the ball twenty one times
- 26:11Speaker 1: for one hundred and thirty two yards. He averaged six
- 26:13Speaker 1: point three yards per rush, one touchdown, he had that
- 26:16Speaker 1: long of forty eight yards. And Jalen Hurts ran the
- 26:20Speaker 1: ball seven times for forty yards. I mean, I do
- 26:23Speaker 1: like that We're getting him involved in the rushing game.
- 26:26Speaker 1: He's not a running back. I know we just graded him,
- 26:29Speaker 1: but still he was. He accounted for forty yards of
- 26:32Speaker 1: the two hundred and seven that the Eagles put up
- 26:35Speaker 1: in terms of their rushing today. But in terms of
- 26:37Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby, I'm gonna give these guys an
- 26:41Speaker 1: a minus this week.
- 26:42Speaker 4: What do you give them? They get an A plus
- 26:45Speaker 4: for me? I mean literally everyone except for ten and
- 26:48Speaker 4: McKee who need the ball at the end, and that
- 26:51Speaker 4: blue ball at the end was at almost six yards
- 26:54Speaker 4: are over per carry including the quarter like I don't.
- 26:57Speaker 3: I can't complain.
- 26:58Speaker 4: The one thing that I will say, well, actually two
- 27:00Speaker 4: things that I will say first is when I talk
- 27:04Speaker 4: about decision making with Hertz, this is what I'm talking about.
- 27:06Speaker 4: Like tonight, he was decisive in terms of keeping his
- 27:10Speaker 4: eyes down the field trying to find I'll use the
- 27:13Speaker 4: Godter touchdown as an example, but also not trying to
- 27:17Speaker 4: force things. He just with the exception of the one
- 27:20Speaker 4: interception that was taken away, he was decisive. It was
- 27:23Speaker 4: I'm going to run or I'm going to pass.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Great.
- 27:26Speaker 4: The other thing that I'm really excited for, I guess
- 27:29Speaker 4: we played what week eighteen now or whatever. I can't
- 27:32Speaker 4: wait for all the Eagles starters to be rested. Yes,
- 27:35Speaker 4: Tank Bigsby goes off for two hundred yards rushing and
- 27:40Speaker 4: we get to hear about the running back controversy in
- 27:44Speaker 4: the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Locker room, and I'm just I am here for it.
- 27:48Speaker 4: Give me the Tank of Bigsby calls, just because I
- 27:52Speaker 4: think it's hysterical that people would call and say, yeah,
- 27:55Speaker 4: I want to see more Tank Bigsby unless ta Kuon
- 27:58Speaker 4: Barkley is a Hall of Famer.
- 27:59Speaker 3: I'm here for every minute of that.
- 28:02Speaker 4: And I need I need him to get like three
- 28:04Speaker 4: hundred yards the last time, just like I need it.
- 28:07Speaker 3: I need it.
- 28:08Speaker 1: And you watch, like the backup offensive lineman'll just be
- 28:11Speaker 1: opening up the gaps.
- 28:13Speaker 2: You know, for Tank to run through.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Oh, we gotta sit Cam Jurgens Landon Dickerson, Jordan my
- 28:19Speaker 1: Lot and these guys stink all let's put Let's put
- 28:21Speaker 1: Matt Pryor in there, Fred Johnson, keep him in there.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Well, we already had the QB controversy a couple of
- 28:27Speaker 4: weeks ago, right, we do we need to give Tanner
- 28:29Speaker 4: McKee some STAPs Jesus okay, whatever, you know, Like I
- 28:33Speaker 4: like Tanner McKee.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Think he may be decent one day for another team, right.
- 28:37Speaker 4: Jalen hurts the Super Bowl MVP, like anyway, exactly, I
- 28:41Speaker 4: just because I did look it up and Tank Bigsby
- 28:44Speaker 4: is averaging like almost seven yards of carry. But I
- 28:47Speaker 4: just I need that number to reach double digits. Yes,
- 28:50Speaker 4: just so people will reference that when he's running against backups.
- 28:54Speaker 3: I just need I need it. Anyway.
- 28:57Speaker 1: I love how we're talking about the backup running back
- 28:59Speaker 1: position here. I was seeing on the stupidex dot com.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I don't care, I'm gonna call it Twitter dot com
- 29:05Speaker 1: because it is Twitter slash x. I guess people actually
- 29:10Speaker 1: being upset that AJ Dillon was inactive today, and I'm like,
- 29:15Speaker 1: what do you?
- 29:16Speaker 2: Why are you upset?
- 29:18Speaker 1: I was seeing folks that were upset. I thought it
- 29:21Speaker 1: was fake, but it was real people being upset. It's
- 29:24Speaker 1: like you've got Tank Bigsby doing what he is doing
- 29:27Speaker 1: all season here.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I mean all season. Look, he's not the.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Greatest running back of the world. He's only put up
- 29:33Speaker 1: two hundred and thirty seven yards coming into this game
- 29:36Speaker 1: on forty one carries, but five point eight yards per carry.
- 29:40Speaker 1: That's his average this year. And you're complaining that AJ
- 29:43Speaker 1: Dillon is somehow not in this game and inactive. I
- 29:45Speaker 1: just wanted to bring that up. There are some people
- 29:47Speaker 1: in this fan base that that really that really take
- 29:51Speaker 1: the cake.
- 29:52Speaker 2: They really do.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Yep, I got others from other fan bases. I can
- 29:57Speaker 3: show you anyway.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Yeah, anyway, let's move on the running backs. Sounds good,
- 30:01Speaker 1: all right, Let's move to the receiving corps. Here, this
- 30:05Speaker 1: receiving corps did not do a terrible job at all.
- 30:08Speaker 1: AJ Brown targeted twelve times, came down with nine balls
- 30:11Speaker 1: for ninety five yards. Davante Smith, targeted eight times, came
- 30:14Speaker 1: down with six balls for forty two yards and a touchdown.
- 30:18Speaker 1: He averaged seven yards per reception. Dallas Goddard was targeted
- 30:22Speaker 1: three times, caught all three balls. That safety net that
- 30:27Speaker 1: Josh talked about earlier before the break. We're seeing that
- 30:30Speaker 1: with Dallas Goddard. In terms of that Jalen Hurts safety
- 30:33Speaker 1: net three receptions, only thirty two yards, but one touchdown
- 30:37Speaker 1: that amazing touchdown catch. Johan Dotson caught three balls for
- 30:41Speaker 1: thirteen yards. Will Shipley won for three yards, a total
- 30:44Speaker 1: of one hundred and eighty five receiving yards. I'm gonna
- 30:46Speaker 1: give the receivers in this game and overall A because
- 30:49Speaker 1: I think they did what they needed to do in
- 30:51Speaker 1: a lot of different ways. And I saw receivers blocking
- 30:53Speaker 1: also downfield two when they needed to with specific plays,
- 30:57Speaker 1: and that's what I'd like to see. Especially Davonte Smith.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I see him blocking a lot. He's a little guy,
- 31:02Speaker 1: but man, he's blocking for running backs, he's blocking for
- 31:05Speaker 1: other wide receivers. I just love Davante Smith with all
- 31:09Speaker 1: of my heart. But I'm going to give the wide
- 31:11Speaker 1: receivers an A overall this game.
- 31:13Speaker 3: What do you give them, buddy, I'm going to give
- 31:16Speaker 3: him a B plus. Okay, there's just too many drops.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Like I just.
- 31:22Speaker 4: This, I'm hard on this team because I believe they're
- 31:26Speaker 4: a Super Bowl contempt. Yeah, and so I'm not going
- 31:28Speaker 4: to treat you the saying that I would treat the
- 31:30Speaker 4: commanders right like I would if I were doing grades
- 31:34Speaker 4: for the commanders, I would be far easier than what
- 31:36Speaker 4: I'm giving now. But to me, like the mental mistakes,
- 31:41Speaker 4: the penalties and the drops and the turnovers, those are
- 31:45Speaker 4: things you can control, and all three are key when
- 31:49Speaker 4: you're making a playoff run.
- 31:51Speaker 3: I got it.
- 31:51Speaker 4: I can't. I can't keep seeing drops, okay, even like
- 31:54Speaker 4: Devonte Smith is dropping the ball, A J. Brown's dropping
- 31:57Speaker 4: the ball like I'm a lot of money, I need
- 32:01Speaker 4: you to make the place.
- 32:02Speaker 1: I think it'd be a lot harder. I don't know
- 32:04Speaker 1: why on this one. I think it'd being hard for
- 32:06Speaker 1: some reason. On this one, there was a Yes, there
- 32:09Speaker 1: were drops for sure. I mean AJ had a drop.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I think it was in the first quarter.
- 32:12Speaker 2: I think that.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I mean it was really good coverage, you know what
- 32:15Speaker 1: I mean? Like it was really good coverage. And I
- 32:17Speaker 1: will actually give the Commander's defend uh defense of the
- 32:20Speaker 1: defenders some credit for how they were covering him. And
- 32:25Speaker 1: there were other times when he made absolutely miraculous catches,
- 32:28Speaker 1: both both Davante and AJ. I don't know, I think
- 32:31Speaker 1: it might be being a little hard on him, But
- 32:33Speaker 1: I respect, I respect the greed.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I do. I respect the greed.
- 32:37Speaker 3: He makes a ton of money, he's one of the
- 32:38Speaker 3: top paid.
- 32:40Speaker 4: I expect if a ball is overthrown, underthrown, I'll give
- 32:44Speaker 4: you a pass. Yeah, when the ball is in your hands,
- 32:46Speaker 4: make the catch. And the same rule as for DeVante
- 32:49Speaker 4: Smith and Dallas Goddard. I hold the three of them
- 32:52Speaker 4: in high regard. Balls in your hand, you make the catch.
- 32:56Speaker 4: I'm seeing too many drops.
- 32:57Speaker 1: All right, Well, let's move to the offensive line here, body,
- 33:00Speaker 1: because I I don't know about you, but man, I'm
- 33:03Speaker 1: going I'm going no grade here. I'm going to low
- 33:06Speaker 1: grade past protection. Not terrible by any stretch, I don't
- 33:10Speaker 1: think terrible. Uh, but the run again, the run blocking
- 33:14Speaker 1: is just not there. Man. I'm seeing Landon Dickerson just
- 33:16Speaker 1: hardly able to move at times on on these run
- 33:20Speaker 1: blocking schemes, like when he's trying to move over two
- 33:22Speaker 1: plus gaps, it is tough for him to do that.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Same with Cam Jurgens and these guys were seeing Jordan
- 33:28Speaker 1: my lot at times, like in the backfield when he
- 33:30Speaker 1: should have been blocking somebody. I just I just don't
- 33:32Speaker 1: know what's happening. I'm gonna I'm gonna actually give the
- 33:35Speaker 1: offensive line a C minus. I was thinking about giving
- 33:38Speaker 1: him like a D D plus, but I'll give him
- 33:40Speaker 1: a C minus because at the end of the day,
- 33:43Speaker 1: the pass protection allowed Jalen Hurts to make some pretty
- 33:46Speaker 1: good throws in this game. I'm gonna give a C
- 33:49Speaker 1: minus to the to the offensive line, what do you
- 33:51Speaker 1: give them?
- 33:53Speaker 3: I think you're being a little hard here now.
- 33:54Speaker 4: I think you know my My grade is a C. Okay,
- 34:00Speaker 4: it before, and I'll probably say it every week. I
- 34:02Speaker 4: do the greats the offensive line this year has shown
- 34:06Speaker 4: Eagles fans how spoiled we've been in terms of how
- 34:10Speaker 4: an offensive line should play. The reality is is the
- 34:15Speaker 4: things that you just mentioned, players like Jason Kelsey made
- 34:20Speaker 4: look really easy. Lane Johnson makes it look really easy.
- 34:24Speaker 4: I just mentioned two probable Hall of famers. Yeah, so
- 34:28Speaker 4: I hear.
- 34:29Speaker 3: What you're saying.
- 34:29Speaker 4: And part of it, too, Jeff, is a lot of
- 34:31Speaker 4: these guys we have on the line. My alta excluded
- 34:35Speaker 4: one of the reasons why they fell to the Eagles
- 34:38Speaker 4: or fell into Day two of the draft is because
- 34:40Speaker 4: of injury history in college.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 34:43Speaker 4: That's a good point, No doubt that these guys are injured, right,
- 34:47Speaker 4: and they're just trying to push through because they're trying
- 34:49Speaker 4: to be warriors. They're trying to be there for the guys,
- 34:52Speaker 4: which is another reason why I don't need le Johnson
- 34:54Speaker 4: back next week.
- 34:55Speaker 3: I don't need him being a warrior.
- 34:56Speaker 4: I need him come playoff time and to get a
- 34:58Speaker 4: little bit more healthy because I don't need him getting reinjured.
- 35:02Speaker 3: So I give him a c.
- 35:05Speaker 4: I'm not super thrilled with it, but the reality is
- 35:08Speaker 4: is I think if you actually look at the Eagles
- 35:09Speaker 4: offensive line, it actually stacks up as an average offensive line,
- 35:14Speaker 4: and I have a hard time being really critical on them.
- 35:16Speaker 4: With Jalen Hurts has more time in the pocket than
- 35:18Speaker 4: any other quarterback this year.
- 35:20Speaker 1: You do really make a good point in all seriousness.
- 35:23Speaker 1: To have a buddy of mine who is a Jets
- 35:25Speaker 1: fan and he's linked. I don't need you complaining about
- 35:29Speaker 1: the Eagles offensive line. You just can't do it because
- 35:32Speaker 1: at the end of the day, it has been so
- 35:34Speaker 1: many years that we expect excellence, absolute excellence from this
- 35:38Speaker 1: offensive line because that's what we have seen year after
- 35:41Speaker 1: year after year. So it's a very good point that
- 35:43Speaker 1: you make. So I'm still given him a C minus
- 35:45Speaker 1: and you give him a C. It was average play today,
- 35:49Speaker 1: and average play was able to actually win this game.
- 35:52Speaker 1: As baffling as this game was in so many ways,
- 35:57Speaker 1: I think it makes some great points. So let's move
- 35:59Speaker 1: over to the defense. Defensive side of the ball. Here,
- 36:01Speaker 1: defensive line, I'm gonna give these guys an a minus here,
- 36:04Speaker 1: what do you give them? Yeah?
- 36:06Speaker 4: I agree, leave a short and sweet. It's good to
- 36:08Speaker 4: have beg back, like even just for the fact of
- 36:11Speaker 4: like him being the longest tenured athlete in Philly. It's
- 36:15Speaker 4: just it's so nice to see him on the field.
- 36:18Speaker 4: And I think that the defensive line feels the same
- 36:21Speaker 4: they yeah, same grade.
- 36:22Speaker 2: All right, sounds good.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Look two sacks in this game, five tackles for a loss.
- 36:27Speaker 1: There were four quarterback hits, like not necessarily the greatest
- 36:31Speaker 1: in terms of the box score, but you felt this
- 36:34Speaker 1: team giving pressure to the quarterback, you know, just getting
- 36:37Speaker 1: through those gaps as well on the Washington offensive line.
- 36:42Speaker 1: So again, this is in one of those games where
- 36:45Speaker 1: the box score is just not going to give you
- 36:47Speaker 1: the entire picture of what happened in this game. When
- 36:50Speaker 1: you look at Zach Bond you look at Jihad Campbell
- 36:53Speaker 1: and even Nikobe Dean before he left the game with
- 36:57Speaker 1: a hamstring injury. This linebacker corps playing again at a
- 37:01Speaker 1: very very high level. I'm gonna give the linebackers an
- 37:04Speaker 1: a this week.
- 37:04Speaker 2: What do you give them?
- 37:06Speaker 3: Big inn a for me this week? And I want
- 37:08Speaker 3: to take him may here.
- 37:09Speaker 4: I wanted to talk about Sha Hot Campbell because I
- 37:12Speaker 4: get a little frustrated when I hear people complain about
- 37:15Speaker 4: him or say that he hasn't been that great this year.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Like tonight's a prime example of what makes him a
- 37:19Speaker 4: first round talent. He went from playing up towards the
- 37:24Speaker 4: line to then running into coverage and wound up trailing
- 37:29Speaker 4: the receiver where Cooper Dejean missed the tackle. I forget
- 37:33Speaker 4: who else missed the tackle, but Ja Hot Campbell's the
- 37:35Speaker 4: one that finally brought the receiver.
- 37:38Speaker 3: Blankenship.
- 37:39Speaker 4: And both those guys are sure tacklers, but both of
- 37:41Speaker 4: them missed tackles on the same play, which is that
- 37:44Speaker 4: doesn't happen. Crazy, It doesn't happen. But Ja Hot Campbell
- 37:48Speaker 4: never gave up on the play. Is fast enough and
- 37:51Speaker 4: quick enough to keep up with the receiver.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Deebo Samuel again.
- 37:55Speaker 4: Huge South Carolina fan Deebo Samuel is one of my
- 37:58Speaker 4: all time favorite player in college football history. He's fast,
- 38:03Speaker 4: even at his age, He's so fast, Campbell's able to
- 38:05Speaker 4: keep up with them, track him down and make the tackle.
- 38:09Speaker 4: It's crazy that the Eagles have enough linebacker depth that
- 38:12Speaker 4: their first round pick is sitting on the bench. It's
- 38:14Speaker 4: just I never thought we would ever get to the
- 38:16Speaker 4: point where we're drafting linebackers in the first round and
- 38:19Speaker 4: we have other ones so good he's on the bench.
- 38:21Speaker 3: It's just crazy.
- 38:22Speaker 2: It is. It's crazy. Look.
- 38:24Speaker 1: The secondary, I think had a pretty darn good game
- 38:26Speaker 1: as well. When you take a look at the Washington
- 38:28Speaker 1: receiver of receivers one hundred and thirty eight total yards, Yeah,
- 38:33Speaker 1: and a lot of that where you know, we saw
- 38:34Speaker 1: some dinks and dunks from Marcus Mariota and of course
- 38:37Speaker 1: from Josh Johnson when he came in as well. You
- 38:40Speaker 1: also had Cooper dejen with an interception in this game.
- 38:44Speaker 1: I'm I'm really happy with where this where this secondary
- 38:48Speaker 1: is right now at this point, heading into the latter
- 38:51Speaker 1: part of this regular season, as we look to the playoffs,
- 38:53Speaker 1: I'm going to give them an a this week, what
- 38:55Speaker 1: do you give him?
- 38:56Speaker 4: I give him an A with an asterisk, okay, just
- 38:59Speaker 4: because on that opening drive for Washington, I think it
- 39:02Speaker 4: was Cooper de Gene definitely was holding onto the wide
- 39:05Speaker 4: receiver's arm. Oh there was no flag, yes, So like
- 39:08Speaker 4: if that had happened and it was an Eagles receiver,
- 39:11Speaker 4: we would have been losing our minds. So like, I'll
- 39:13Speaker 4: give him an A with a little asterisk because we
- 39:15Speaker 4: probably should have scored four more points based off of
- 39:17Speaker 4: that penalty that wasn't called.
- 39:19Speaker 1: But anyway, okay, sounds good, sounds good. All right, let's
- 39:22Speaker 1: get to grading the coaching here. But we're gonna start
- 39:25Speaker 1: off with special teams. Man F for special teams. Holy cow,
- 39:31Speaker 1: it could be the first time we've given an F
- 39:33Speaker 1: all season on special teams?
- 39:35Speaker 2: What do you give them?
- 39:37Speaker 3: So?
- 39:39Speaker 4: Short answer is F. Why My two points here? Why
- 39:46Speaker 4: is Covey not returning kicks? The return game has been
- 39:50Speaker 4: dramatically different since he got back. That's my first point.
- 39:54Speaker 4: My second point is, again as a South Carolina fan,
- 39:57Speaker 4: having to watch Will Shipley for freaking years, stroy the
- 40:00Speaker 4: team that I love. He can't seem to catch the
- 40:03Speaker 4: freaking ball or know what to do. He's supposed to
- 40:07Speaker 4: be good playing for a team, so I can enjoy him.
- 40:10Speaker 4: Will Shipley, you and I need to have a conversation. Gosh,
- 40:16Speaker 4: catch the ball and do good things in green.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Anyway, mister Schuster is now shaking, folks, he's and he's
- 40:22Speaker 1: shaking his fist at the camera.
- 40:25Speaker 3: I am.
- 40:26Speaker 4: I did not think I would ever dislike will Shipley Moore,
- 40:30Speaker 4: and I did through years of collegiate football, and here
- 40:34Speaker 4: we are, and he's just continuing to haunt me.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Anyway, Yes, for special teams, it is well deserved in
- 40:45Speaker 1: this game. F for special teams, and.
- 40:47Speaker 4: I'm Jake Elliott. By the way, they need to bring
- 40:51Speaker 4: even just to light a fire under him. They need
- 40:54Speaker 4: to try out some kickers this week. I still think
- 40:57Speaker 4: they should stick with him and see how the next
- 41:00Speaker 4: two weeks ago. Yeah, but and I had even told
- 41:02Speaker 4: you I wanted them to try them out to kick
- 41:05Speaker 4: the field goal in the late and the fourth quarter,
- 41:07Speaker 4: just because at this rate, his head can't get any worse.
- 41:11Speaker 3: So let's try to build some confidence anyway.
- 41:13Speaker 1: All right, Vic Fangio, and we grade this defensive coaching.
- 41:17Speaker 1: I mean he's getting an A for me. I mean
- 41:19Speaker 1: it seems to be a weekly grade with Vic. Just
- 41:23Speaker 1: he's got this defense playing on all cylinders. This is
- 41:25Speaker 1: a championship level defense.
- 41:26Speaker 2: It just is. In my opinion, I'm giving him a day.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Yeah again he gets an are Yeah.
- 41:33Speaker 4: But Jeff, the big difference this time is he's doing
- 41:36Speaker 4: it mostly with kids. Yeah, he's doing it with kids
- 41:39Speaker 4: and scraps the teams tossed away in Zach Bond. And yes,
- 41:43Speaker 4: Zach Bond is very good, but Vic is the one
- 41:46Speaker 4: that decided to put him in the position that he's
- 41:49Speaker 4: in that made him good. So like he gets an
- 41:53Speaker 4: A plus from me, and most weeks that probably will
- 41:56Speaker 4: be the case because this is just championship level defense.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Let's not for get about one Jordan Davis, who has
- 42:02Speaker 1: had an incredible season.
- 42:04Speaker 4: I mean they need to hold off on signing Carter. Yeah,
- 42:07Speaker 4: and signed Jordan Davis.
- 42:09Speaker 1: Absolutely six total tackles in this game, two tackles for
- 42:12Speaker 1: a loss. Just he is amazing getting off these blocks
- 42:17Speaker 1: and just being destructive rate at the point of attack.
- 42:22Speaker 1: And it's game after game after game.
- 42:24Speaker 4: I'm not saying that Jalen Carter isn't a good player, right,
- 42:27Speaker 4: but Jeff, have have you missed him that he's been.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Out, the defense hasn't. Let's be real.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Let's be real, the defensive the defense has not missed him,
- 42:38Speaker 1: and and hopefully he comes back in some sort of
- 42:41Speaker 1: healthy manner if he can, that'd be fantastic that the
- 42:45Speaker 1: playoffs staff. But Moro Jomo is doing a pretty darn
- 42:49Speaker 1: good job.
- 42:50Speaker 2: He really is.
- 42:51Speaker 1: He only had three tackles in this game. But again,
- 42:54Speaker 1: the stats don't tell the whole story here. The defensive
- 42:57Speaker 1: front is fantastic. Vica is doing a great job with
- 43:00Speaker 1: these kids. Like you said, let's move on to Nick
- 43:03Speaker 1: Sirianni Kevin Petullo. From an offensive coaching perspective, in this game,
- 43:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna give a straight up CE here. I just again,
- 43:12Speaker 1: a lot of baffling stuff going on. I hate the
- 43:14Speaker 1: fact that they were in shotgun and pistol way too much,
- 43:18Speaker 1: and I don't know, there was just some I hate
- 43:22Speaker 1: using the word regression because the Raiders game, it was
- 43:24Speaker 1: just one game and they did what they should have
- 43:27Speaker 1: done and they were damn damn well dominant in that game.
- 43:30Speaker 1: But man, I just play calling, play design, just in
- 43:35Speaker 1: game decision making. I am so tired of them, of
- 43:39Speaker 1: them getting to trying to throw to Barkley in the
- 43:42Speaker 1: flat and it not working time and time again. I
- 43:46Speaker 1: just I'm tired of this. I'm tired of this offensive
- 43:49Speaker 1: coaching staff at this point here, I'm giving them a sea.
- 43:52Speaker 2: What do you give them, I'll give.
- 43:54Speaker 3: Them the same.
- 43:55Speaker 4: I think I've figured out my biggest issue with the
- 43:59Speaker 4: Eagles in twenty two. They lack of killer instinct. Yes,
- 44:04Speaker 4: I think that there's some losses this year that could
- 44:08Speaker 4: have been wins had I don't know what happened to
- 44:11Speaker 4: Nick Sirianni in the offseason, Like I don't know if
- 44:14Speaker 4: the Super Bowl changed him in the sense that now
- 44:17Speaker 4: he wants to be more conservative because he's won, or
- 44:22Speaker 4: I don't know if he now gets more say. And
- 44:24Speaker 4: the whole reason why they were more aggressive is because
- 44:27Speaker 4: the analytics department really did decide who goes where and whatnot.
- 44:31Speaker 4: But like, the whole killer instinct on offense just seems
- 44:35Speaker 4: to be gone. And tonight's prime example. You're playing the
- 44:38Speaker 4: Washington Commanders. They have their third string quarterback in and
- 44:41Speaker 4: their second last to last offensive drive ends with Hurts
- 44:45Speaker 4: not being able to complete a dump off to Barkley
- 44:49Speaker 4: and they got to punt it like they never should
- 44:52Speaker 4: have had to punt the ball. Like previous Eagles teams
- 44:55Speaker 4: under Nick Sirianni closed that game out in that drive.
- 45:00Speaker 4: They can't do it this year. And it's not just
- 45:02Speaker 4: this game, it's multiple games. The other thing is just
- 45:05Speaker 4: the general just drives me insane. Third and seven and
- 45:12Speaker 4: less and the routes that are drawn up, and this
- 45:15Speaker 4: isn't just the Eagles, this is just offense in general.
- 45:18Speaker 4: The routes are below the first down mark Yes, you
- 45:23Speaker 4: have all your options sitting.
- 45:26Speaker 3: Two yards below where they need to be.
- 45:29Speaker 4: Why why especially on third and seven when the defense
- 45:37Speaker 4: they can do whatever they want within five yards. They
- 45:40Speaker 4: can push you, they can bump you, they can do
- 45:42Speaker 4: whatever they want. I don't understand. Again, it's not just
- 45:47Speaker 4: an Eagles offensive court. It's just offense in twenty twenty five.
- 45:50Speaker 4: It makes no sense.
- 45:52Speaker 1: They're running curl routes and comeback routes that are like
- 45:55Speaker 1: two three yards underneath the first down marker. Is it's bizarre.
- 46:01Speaker 1: I'm seeing the same thing. I think we're all seeing
- 46:03Speaker 1: the same thing.
- 46:04Speaker 4: It's very frustrating, but it's like, if you watch games tomorrow,
- 46:07Speaker 4: it'll be the exact same.
- 46:08Speaker 3: I don't that makes its waste.
- 46:10Speaker 4: Yeah anyway, Yeah, all right, well I'll get off.
- 46:13Speaker 3: My old man yelling at cloud anyway.
- 46:18Speaker 1: We had a lot of that this past week. Old
- 46:20Speaker 1: man yelling at a cloud anyway, I digress. All right,
- 46:23Speaker 1: we'll uh well, well we're in this Eagles postgame podcast,
- 46:28Speaker 1: Week sixteen of this Philadelpha Eagles season now in the books.
- 46:32Speaker 1: They beat the Washington Commanders again, folks, by score of
- 46:35Speaker 1: twenty nine to eighteen. They clinch the NFC East title.
- 46:40Speaker 1: It is their second time within the past two years
- 46:43Speaker 1: doing that first team since they did it back in
- 46:46Speaker 1: two thousand three, two thousand and four to repeat as
- 46:50Speaker 1: division champs. Man, I'm glad it was the Eagles. I'm
- 46:53Speaker 1: glad it wasn't the I'm glad it wasn't the Commander's
- 46:55Speaker 1: Giants or Cowboys, Josh. I mean, I was really hoping
- 46:58Speaker 1: for this, you know. They they made history, and I'm
- 47:01Speaker 1: glad that they made history.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Here.
- 47:04Speaker 4: The next closest run where no team repeats is fourteen years.
- 47:10Speaker 3: Man, I mean, like, think about that.
- 47:12Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 47:13Speaker 3: And they had.
- 47:14Speaker 4: Said on the radio today, I don't know that we'll
- 47:16Speaker 4: ever see a stretch this song again.
- 47:18Speaker 3: I agree.
- 47:18Speaker 4: I mean, there's so much parody in the NFL, but
- 47:21Speaker 4: also at the same time, because of that parody, there's
- 47:24Speaker 4: just so many dominant teams like Kansas City for years,
- 47:26Speaker 4: New England for years like and in some divisions it's
- 47:30Speaker 4: basically over before the season starts.
- 47:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Anyway, all right, that's gonna do it for us, folks.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Here again, he is Josh Schuster from Philadelphia soccernow dot com. Great,
- 47:39Speaker 1: great content about the Philadelphia Union, Buddy. I appreciate you
- 47:42Speaker 1: taking the time to fill in for the guys here
- 47:45Speaker 1: and give your thoughts, your opinions on this Eagles team
- 47:47Speaker 1: here week sixteen.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Again, thank you, my friend. I really do appreciate it.
- 47:53Speaker 4: Well, if you really appreciate Jeff, you can talk with
- 47:55Speaker 4: the Eagles about cutting the most ship with and you
- 47:57Speaker 4: make my life a little bit easier.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Folks, Send in an email, send them in an email, folks,
- 48:02Speaker 1: send the Eagles an email.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Cut will shipley all right?
- 48:06Speaker 1: Week sixteen. That is it, folks, Take care and we
- 48:09Speaker 1: will catch you next time.
