- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to A Peak Inside Gator Football. Allie Peek here.
- 0:04Speaker 1: This video is presented by PrizePix. Florida just beat the
- 0:07Speaker 1: number four team in the country by 24 points. They're 4-0.
- 0:10Speaker 1: They're ranked number eight. The national media is finally paying attention.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Everybody's talking about Coach Summerall and Jaden Baugh. Everybody's talking
- 0:18Speaker 1: about whether Florida is a college football playoff team. And
- 0:21Speaker 1: now comes the part that worries me. Today I want
- 0:25Speaker 1: to talk about what I think is a very dangerous
- 0:28Speaker 1: spot for this Florida football team. This is exactly the
- 0:31Speaker 1: kind of game where you find out whether a team
- 0:34Speaker 1: is mature enough to handle success. Florida goes into Columbia
- 0:38Speaker 1: this Saturday for a 3.30 kickoff on ABC. And I
- 0:42Speaker 1: know what a lot of people are thinking. Florida just
- 0:44Speaker 1: beat Ole Miss 52-28. Missouri just lost. Florida's the number
- 0:48Speaker 1: eight team in the country. So Florida should just go
- 0:50Speaker 1: up there and take care of business. And maybe they
- 0:54Speaker 1: absolutely can. But I don't think that this is a
- 0:57Speaker 1: game where Florida can show up thinking the Ole Miss
- 1:00Speaker 1: win means anything once that ball is kicked off because
- 1:03Speaker 1: it doesn't. Ole Miss is over. That win was huge,
- 1:06Speaker 1: and I think that everybody should have enjoyed it on
- 1:09Speaker 1: Saturday night. I celebrated it. I'm sure you did too.
- 1:12Speaker 1: It was one of the best atmospheres we've seen in
- 1:14Speaker 1: the swamp in a long time. But none of those
- 1:16Speaker 1: 52 points carry over to Columbia. And that's where John
- 1:19Speaker 1: Summerall has another really important test, not a football test.
- 1:23Speaker 1: but a mindset test. Can you get a team that
- 1:27Speaker 1: just had everybody telling them how great they are to
- 1:30Speaker 1: go right back to work? That's hard. It really is,
- 1:33Speaker 1: especially with college kids. You beat the number four team
- 1:36Speaker 1: in the country. You jump into the top 10. You
- 1:38Speaker 1: open your phone on Sunday morning and everybody's talking about you.
- 1:42Speaker 1: You've got ESPN talking about you. You've got national shows
- 1:45Speaker 1: talking about you. You've got people suddenly putting Florida in
- 1:48Speaker 1: the playoff conversation. And all that feels really good. And
- 1:52Speaker 1: that is exactly when good teams get themselves in trouble
- 1:56Speaker 1: because Missouri does not care. Missouri is sitting there after
- 1:59Speaker 1: a loss and they're going to go back home. And
- 2:02Speaker 1: Florida is now the team coming in with the big
- 2:05Speaker 1: number next to its name. The dynamic changes. Florida spent
- 2:09Speaker 1: the first month of the season trying to prove something. Now,
- 2:13Speaker 1: all of a sudden, they're the team other people are
- 2:15Speaker 1: trying to knock off. And that is a different beast.
- 2:18Speaker 1: And I think that's why this game is so interesting.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Missouri came into the season with expectations. They were ranked
- 2:24Speaker 1: earlier in the year. This was originally announced as a
- 2:27Speaker 1: matchup between ranked teams before last weekend changed things. I
- 2:30Speaker 1: saw Missouri at 25 and I think at least the AP.
- 2:34Speaker 1: So this is not Florida going on the road to
- 2:37Speaker 1: play some completely overmatched team, though. Columbia has been a
- 2:42Speaker 1: difficult place for Florida to play over the years. Florida
- 2:45Speaker 1: and Missouri have played 13 times since Missouri joined the conference,
- 2:49Speaker 1: and Missouri actually leads the all-time series 7-6. The last
- 2:53Speaker 1: time Florida went to Columbia, they lost 33-31. Before that,
- 2:59Speaker 1: in 2021, they lost 24-23. So if you're looking at
- 3:03Speaker 1: this game and thinking, like, oh, it's Missouri, Florida's going
- 3:05Speaker 1: to be fine, I would probably pump the brakes a
- 3:08Speaker 1: little bit. Weird things happen in Columbia for the Gators.
- 3:11Speaker 1: They just do. And road SEC games are hard. I
- 3:14Speaker 1: don't care what the rankings say. I don't care what
- 3:16Speaker 1: Vegas says. You go into another SEC stadium, and if
- 3:23Speaker 1: you give that team an inch, you give them any
- 3:25Speaker 1: life at all, suddenly you're in a dogfight. That is
- 3:30Speaker 1: the number one thing Florida can't do. Don't give Missouri life.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Florida has been really good so far at creating momentum.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Special teams creates plays. The running game gets going, the
- 3:40Speaker 1: defense creates a turnover, the crowd gets involved, and suddenly
- 3:43Speaker 1: the whole game swings. Well, on the road, that works
- 3:46Speaker 1: in reverse. We're going to take a quick break from
- 3:49Speaker 1: this video to give some love to PrizePix and to
- 3:52Speaker 1: play a little game. Guys, if you haven't downloaded the
- 3:55Speaker 1: PrizePix app, do it right now. Play a $ 5 lineup
- 3:59Speaker 1: and use our code. It's HMA. It's right there on
- 4:01Speaker 1: the screen. If you win, you'll get $ 150 in lineups instantly.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I am going to take, ooh, this is a good one,
- 4:08Speaker 1: Jeremiah Smith, anytime touchdowns. It's over or under 0.5. I'm
- 4:14Speaker 1: going the more for sure. And then I'm going to
- 4:16Speaker 1: go more Jaden Baugh, anytime touchdowns as well, because he's
- 4:19Speaker 1: also sitting there at 0.5. So those seem like pretty
- 4:24Speaker 1: easy moneymakers to me. We're going to go with both
- 4:27Speaker 1: of them. We appreciate prize picks for all their support.
- 4:30Speaker 1: You saw how easy it was. I just picked two things,
- 4:32Speaker 1: put it together. You've got yourself a lineup. I'm going
- 4:35Speaker 1: to submit it right now. We appreciate price picks for
- 4:38Speaker 1: all their support. You give up a big play early.
- 4:42Speaker 1: You have a dumb penalty. You turn the ball over.
- 4:44Speaker 1: You allow Missouri to get a quick touchdown. Now their
- 4:47Speaker 1: crowd is alive. Now their sideline believes. Now Florida's playing uphill.
- 4:52Speaker 1: That's exactly what you want to avoid. I think the
- 4:55Speaker 1: first quarter is incredibly important in this game. Florida doesn't
- 4:58Speaker 1: need to come out and score 21 points necessarily. I
- 5:02Speaker 1: do think they need to play clean, though. No stupid penalties,
- 5:05Speaker 1: protect the football, tackle well, make Missouri earn every single inch,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and kind of settle into the game. The one thing
- 5:13Speaker 1: Florida absolutely cannot do is play emotionally sloppy after such
- 5:18Speaker 1: an emotional win. And that is usually what happens in
- 5:21Speaker 1: these spots. You're riding so high from the week before
- 5:24Speaker 1: that you do come out a little flat, or you
- 5:27Speaker 1: try to do too much, or you assume the game
- 5:30Speaker 1: is going to come easy. And then suddenly you look
- 5:32Speaker 1: up and it's 14-7 in the second quarter and you're
- 5:34Speaker 1: thinking like, shoot, what is going on? That's the trap.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And I know people hate the phrase trap game because
- 5:41Speaker 1: technically every SEC game is hard. And I do agree
- 5:44Speaker 1: with that line of thinking. But if there was ever
- 5:47Speaker 1: a setup when you worry about the emotional side of it,
- 5:50Speaker 1: I think this is it. Florida just had what might
- 5:53Speaker 1: be its biggest win in years. Then they go on
- 5:55Speaker 1: the road against a team coming off a loss. before
- 5:59Speaker 1: coming home to play South Carolina, and then going to Texas,
- 6:03Speaker 1: it would be incredibly easy to look past Missouri. And
- 6:07Speaker 1: they can't. And I think the way Florida avoids that
- 6:10Speaker 1: is by leaning into what has gotten them here. Run
- 6:13Speaker 1: the football. That should travel. Did to Auburn. Jaden Baugh
- 6:16Speaker 1: has been the most consistent thing Florida has had offensively.
- 6:20Speaker 1: He has gone over 100 yards in every game this season.
- 6:23Speaker 1: He just had 142 in three touchdowns against Ole Miss.
- 6:26Speaker 1: And the week before that, he had 162 at Auburn.
- 6:29Speaker 1: That Auburn game, to me, is important here. It matters.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Florida already showed that this running game, this isn't just
- 6:37Speaker 1: something that works in Gainesville. They went into Jordan Hare
- 6:40Speaker 1: and ran the ball. So if I'm Florida, I don't
- 6:42Speaker 1: go into Missouri trying to prove I can be cute.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I don't care if Missouri loads the box. I don't
- 6:47Speaker 1: care if everybody knows what's coming. Run it anyway. Make
- 6:51Speaker 1: them stop it. The fastest way to take the crowd
- 6:53Speaker 1: out of a road game is to control the line
- 6:55Speaker 1: of scrimmage. Pick up first downs. Keep their offense on
- 6:59Speaker 1: the sideline. That's something Florida's done exceptionally well this year.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Drain the energy out of the building. That is exactly
- 7:06Speaker 1: what Florida should want. And Aaron Filo does not need
- 7:09Speaker 1: to be a hero. That's another thing that I would really,
- 7:12Speaker 1: really stress this week. Don't go into Missouri thinking, okay,
- 7:16Speaker 1: we're number eight now. Let's throw it all over the place. No.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Play the same football that got you to 4-0. Philo
- 7:23Speaker 1: has been really good because he hasn't tried to make
- 7:26Speaker 1: every play into something spectacular. He's been efficient. He's protected
- 7:30Speaker 1: the football. Against Ole Miss, Florida rushed for 302 yards
- 7:33Speaker 1: and six rushing touchdowns, while Philo completed 16 of 23 passes.
- 7:38Speaker 1: That's a dream setup for a quarterback. You don't need
- 7:40Speaker 1: him to throw for 400 yards. You need him to
- 7:43Speaker 1: move the chains, hit the throws that are there, and
- 7:45Speaker 1: just kind of stay out of trouble. And I think
- 7:47Speaker 1: that is especially important on the road. Turnovers change road
- 7:51Speaker 1: games fast. One bad interception and suddenly you give Missouri
- 7:55Speaker 1: a short field. One fumble and the whole stadium wakes up.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Florida's been really good at making opponents earn things. Keep
- 8:01Speaker 1: doing that. Defensively, I think this is also one of
- 8:05Speaker 1: those games where discipline matters more than anything flashy. Florida's
- 8:09Speaker 1: going to have to tackle. They're going to have to communicate.
- 8:11Speaker 1: They're going to have to be good on third down.
- 8:13Speaker 1: And they cannot extend drives with penalties. Those are the
- 8:16Speaker 1: things that will get you beat in a game like this.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Not necessarily because Missouri is going to line up and
- 8:21Speaker 1: dominate you, but because if you give an SEC offense
- 8:24Speaker 1: extra chances, eventually they're going to make you pay. We
- 8:27Speaker 1: saw Florida have some defensive issues against Auburn. We saw
- 8:30Speaker 1: some missed tackles. We saw some third down problems. Ole
- 8:33Speaker 1: Miss had moments too. So this isn't a defense that
- 8:36Speaker 1: can just assume it'll all, you know, it'll be able
- 8:39Speaker 1: to overwhelm everybody. Florida has made enough plays to cover
- 8:42Speaker 1: up some of their mistakes, but on the road, you
- 8:45Speaker 1: need fewer mistakes. Make Missouri drive the field. Make them
- 8:49Speaker 1: go 10, 11, 12 plays. Don't give up easy explosives.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Don't turn a five-yard play into 40 because somebody missed
- 8:55Speaker 1: a tackle. And special teams, again, could be huge. I
- 8:59Speaker 1: keep saying this, but Jonathan Galante's unit has one of
- 9:02Speaker 1: the biggest differences on this football team. If Florida can
- 9:05Speaker 1: flip the field, get a big return, pin Missouri deep,
- 9:09Speaker 1: all of that matters even more on the road. A
- 9:12Speaker 1: big special teams play can completely shut a crowd up.
- 9:16Speaker 1: And that's really valuable. And Florida's already shown it can
- 9:19Speaker 1: do it in multiple ways. Burnell Brown with the punt
- 9:21Speaker 1: returns against Campbell. Alec Clark flipping field position. London Montgomery
- 9:25Speaker 1: with a long kickoff return against Ole Miss. Those are
- 9:28Speaker 1: plays that change games without your offense or defense really
- 9:31Speaker 1: doing anything. And in a game where you are trying
- 9:34Speaker 1: to avoid letting the other team build momentum, that also
- 9:37Speaker 1: becomes huge. The other thing I want to see is
- 9:39Speaker 1: how Florida responds if things don't go perfectly. Because up
- 9:43Speaker 1: to this point, this team has showed some toughness. Auburn
- 9:45Speaker 1: pushed him. They responded. Ole Miss cut into the lead.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Florida responded. All of that is important. They're good tests
- 9:52Speaker 1: for what's to come down the pipeline. And I think
- 9:54Speaker 1: John Summerall deserves a lot of credit for that. His
- 9:56Speaker 1: team doesn't seem to panic. They just keep playing. That's important.
- 10:00Speaker 1: because if you go to Missouri and they score first, okay,
- 10:03Speaker 1: so what? Now what? If Florida is really the team
- 10:06Speaker 1: we think it's becoming, that can't rattle them. You're the
- 10:09Speaker 1: number eight team in the country because you've played good
- 10:11Speaker 1: football for four weeks. Not because you've never been behind.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Not because you've never made mistakes. Good teams respond. And
- 10:17Speaker 1: I think this is a week where Summerall's messaging becomes
- 10:20Speaker 1: really important because I guarantee you he is telling them
- 10:23Speaker 1: exactly what I'm saying right now. The ranking does not matter.
- 10:26Speaker 1: The Ole Miss game does not matter anymore. The playoff
- 10:29Speaker 1: talk doesn't matter. Your job is Missouri and that's it.
- 10:32Speaker 1: And this is where we find out if the culture
- 10:33Speaker 1: change is real. It's easy to be focused when the
- 10:36Speaker 1: number four team in the country is coming to the swamp.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Everybody's locked in for that. You don't need to motivate
- 10:41Speaker 1: anybody for Ole Miss. But can you bring the same
- 10:43Speaker 1: intensity the next week on the road against a team
- 10:46Speaker 1: that just lost when everybody's telling you how great you are?
- 10:49Speaker 1: That tells me more. It really does. Because championship level
- 10:52Speaker 1: teams are not defined only by what they do in
- 10:54Speaker 1: giant games. They are defined by whether they avoid the
- 10:57Speaker 1: dumb loss. That's a big part of it. Every season
- 11:00Speaker 1: we see teams put together a huge win and then
- 11:02Speaker 1: come out flat the next week. It happens constantly. And
- 11:06Speaker 1: once it happens, you can't get it back. Nobody cares
- 11:09Speaker 1: in December that you were emotionally drained after beating Ole Miss.
- 11:12Speaker 1: A loss is a loss. Florida has to put itself
- 11:16Speaker 1: in a good position. They have so far this season.
- 11:19Speaker 1: They've got to continue to do that. They're 4-0. They're
- 11:21Speaker 1: number eight. They have the national attention. They have momentum.
- 11:24Speaker 1: And that's exactly why this game matters so much. Now
- 11:28Speaker 1: you have something to protect. You have to handle the success.
- 11:32Speaker 1: That's the next step. And I think the formula is
- 11:34Speaker 1: actually pretty simple. Run the football. Protect Aaron Filo. protect
- 11:39Speaker 1: the football, tackle, win special teams, don't give Missouri cheap points,
- 11:44Speaker 1: and make them beat you for four quarters. If Florida
- 11:47Speaker 1: does those things, I like where they are. But if
- 11:50Speaker 1: Florida shows up still thinking about Ole Miss, well, that's
- 11:53Speaker 1: when it gets dangerous. And I don't think Coach Summerall
- 11:55Speaker 1: is going to let that happen easily. Everything we've seen
- 11:58Speaker 1: from him so far suggests he understands exactly what this
- 12:01Speaker 1: spot is. The question is whether the players respond. Because
- 12:05Speaker 1: being number eight is great. Being 4-0 is great. Getting
- 12:08Speaker 1: national respect is great. But if Florida wants to be
- 12:10Speaker 1: the team everybody is starting to think it can be,
- 12:13Speaker 1: this is the kind of game you have to handle.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Go on the road, take care of business, get to 5-0,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and move on. No drama, no emotional hangover, no looking ahead,
- 12:22Speaker 1: just playing. And I honestly think that we're about to
- 12:25Speaker 1: learn a lot about this Florida team on Saturday. Maybe
- 12:29Speaker 1: not because Missouri is the best team that they're going
- 12:30Speaker 1: to face all season. They aren't. But because this is
- 12:33Speaker 1: the first time Florida has had to deal with the
- 12:35Speaker 1: weight of expectations. They're no longer sneaking up on anybody.
- 12:39Speaker 1: They have everybody's attention now. And with that comes a
- 12:42Speaker 1: very different challenge. Let me know what you guys think.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Are you worried about this being a trap game for Florida?
- 12:48Speaker 1: And what's the one thing the Gators absolutely have to
- 12:51Speaker 1: do to leave Columbia 5-0? Let me know down in
- 12:54Speaker 1: the comments. Make sure that you like this video. Subscribe
- 12:57Speaker 1: to A Peek Inside the Gators. We appreciate prize picks
- 13:00Speaker 1: for all their support. And I'll see you guys next time.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Go Gators!
