- 0:00Speaker 1: None of them involved the Seahawks so far the known games,
- 0:03Speaker 1: we're going to talk about why they're not going international.
- 0:05Speaker 1: I think there's a reason to it. Full schedule comes
- 0:08Speaker 1: out tomorrow at five pm. Dave Softy, Maller and Dick
- 0:11Speaker 1: Faine will be on the air with the unveiling of
- 0:14Speaker 1: the Seahawks schedule here at ninety three point three KJR
- 0:18Speaker 1: ten forty five. A little more on that story we
- 0:20Speaker 1: had last week at gig Harbor School District reinstating gig
- 0:23Speaker 1: Harbor High School girls basketball coach Michelle Hackett two weeks
- 0:26Speaker 1: after the athletic director fired her. There Chris can't talk
- 0:30Speaker 1: to Michelle Hackett yesterday, we'll tell you what she had
- 0:33Speaker 1: to say. And at the part of that, we're also
- 0:35Speaker 1: going to introduce you to the Washington State Football Coaches Association.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I know we have a lot of coaches that listen
- 0:42Speaker 1: to this show. Know that anecdotally from the text line
- 0:46Speaker 1: and coaches that I know around high school sports who
- 0:48Speaker 1: tell us this. Well, there's a really cool event that
- 0:51Speaker 1: the Washington State Football Coaches Association are doing this weekend
- 0:55Speaker 1: with the Seahawks and coach Mike McDonald at Seahawks Headquarters
- 0:58Speaker 1: and Rent and we're going to talk at eleven o'clock
- 0:59Speaker 1: live with k Nookzac Valley head football coach Craig Bartell,
- 1:02Speaker 1: who's the president of the Washington State Football Coaches Association,
- 1:06Speaker 1: and what they're doing at Seahawks headquarters this weekend, including
- 1:10Speaker 1: the induction the latest three inductees coaches inductees of the
- 1:14Speaker 1: Washington State Football Coaches Hall of Fame. This ain't going away.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Chris and I talked about this yesterday. We got we
- 1:21Speaker 1: still are getting feedback on the talk we had about
- 1:24Speaker 1: parents involvement, running coaches out of youth and high school
- 1:29Speaker 1: sports and how this subject is resonating. It is part
- 1:33Speaker 1: of why the Washington State Football Coaches Association are at
- 1:37Speaker 1: Seahawks headquarters this week and Mike McDonald's talking to them.
- 1:40Speaker 1: We'll explain that and we'll talk to Greg Pardell, the
- 1:43Speaker 1: president of the Football Coaches Association in this state, at
- 1:46Speaker 1: eleven o'clock at eleven thirty year tax four nine, four
- 1:49Speaker 1: to five one on the Tacomadadge tech line, as we
- 1:50Speaker 1: do every day at that time. So yesterday we were
- 1:57Speaker 1: talking a lot about Kyle Rowley and we've talked this
- 2:00Speaker 1: week you and I Chris about Hey, maybe just shut
- 2:02Speaker 1: him down for ten days to rest that aching side
- 2:05Speaker 1: that he keeps getting treatment for, and also to give
- 2:07Speaker 1: him a mental break. Well, he was in the line
- 2:10Speaker 1: of a game last night. He was catching. He was
- 2:11Speaker 1: betting fourth for the third straight game. And this is
- 2:13Speaker 1: what he did a little bit better on the base
- 2:16Speaker 1: run and steeling. Oh, everybody taking nice. Steve Gratt in
- 2:20Speaker 1: a rejoice. Cal Roley finds a knock. He is a board. Yes,
- 2:27Speaker 1: that was his first hit in the seventh inning. Then
- 2:30Speaker 1: he went after the he got off the bases. He
- 2:33Speaker 1: was going back to the dugout and JP Crawford hugged him.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Brian wu last night's starting pitcher, took a towel and
- 2:41Speaker 1: was fanning him as if kyl Early was a flame,
- 2:43Speaker 1: because he had his first hit in thirty six thirty
- 2:46Speaker 1: eight at bats. It was by that point. And then
- 2:50Speaker 1: Josh Naylor handed him a ball. It wasn't double because
- 2:54Speaker 1: the ball was still in play, but a ball off
- 2:56Speaker 1: the bench and presented it to him as if it
- 2:59Speaker 1: was the ball he had just hit for a single
- 3:00Speaker 1: and it needed to go into some Hall of Fame
- 3:02Speaker 1: or something, And Rowley looked at daylor in the dugout
- 3:04Speaker 1: and said, give me that ball. I thought we was
- 3:07Speaker 1: funniest though defanding him after one hitting forty two plate appearances.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Those two hits by cal Rally last night are two
- 3:14Speaker 1: more than he had in his previous forty plate appearances
- 3:16Speaker 1: entering last night's game. So ends the longest hitless streak
- 3:19Speaker 1: in the Major League this season. You know what he
- 3:21Speaker 1: did before the game, criz, I mean last year, after
- 3:24Speaker 1: the Monday night game, when he was over his last
- 3:26Speaker 1: forty plate appearances, what do you do? He showered in
- 3:29Speaker 1: his full uniform in the clubhouse. He told him Loga
- 3:33Speaker 1: Gilbert told him to do that, and that that would
- 3:36Speaker 1: exercise with an old the demons of his hitless streak.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And it worked. Now. It didn't work right away, but
- 3:43Speaker 1: he got a walk in his first to bat last night,
- 3:46Speaker 1: first plate appearance, and that, as much as anything, has
- 3:49Speaker 1: been a lot of his problem. He's in his forty
- 3:51Speaker 1: plate appearances, he went hitless, only walked three times. And
- 3:55Speaker 1: for a guy who had hit sixty home runs last year,
- 3:57Speaker 1: he should be taking more pitches because pitchers aren't going
- 3:59Speaker 1: to groove as many to him, and he wasn't walking,
- 4:02Speaker 1: which was a sign of his anxiousness. Well, last night,
- 4:04Speaker 1: on his first plate appearance, he walked, and then in
- 4:07Speaker 1: the seventh inning he singled, and a ninth inning he
- 4:09Speaker 1: singled even more sharply two adds. Three times on bass
- 4:12Speaker 1: last night and four official at bats for cal Rawley.
- 4:16Speaker 1: His batting average went from one fifty seven to one
- 4:18Speaker 1: sixty six, nine points in one night, which goes to
- 4:21Speaker 1: show you how early in the season this still is.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Ashley Ryan about a half hour ago is pretty funny.
- 4:28Speaker 1: She in the Morning Show with Chuck. She went to
- 4:31Speaker 1: her little leaguers at Mill Creek Little League, the softball girls,
- 4:36Speaker 1: and Ella, in particular voice something that we've been talking
- 4:39Speaker 1: about on the show all week. Here's what Ella said.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Her advice would be to cal Rawley. Ella, you know
- 4:43Speaker 1: who cal Rawley is. Yeah, do you have any advice
- 4:46Speaker 1: for him.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I've heard that he's dealing with an injury right now,
- 4:49Speaker 2: so I think he should take a little bit like
- 4:51Speaker 2: away from baseball, all.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Right, give any words of encouragement for him. And he
- 4:56Speaker 1: got this, which is what every single one of about
- 4:59Speaker 1: fifteen girls that actually video or audio tape said the
- 5:03Speaker 1: same thing. You got this. But even Ellen knows if
- 5:06Speaker 1: the guy's hurt and just shut him down. It's only may.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Just give him a break, give him a rest, That's
- 5:13Speaker 1: what we've been saying. But it's obvious the Mariners are
- 5:15Speaker 1: going to let him fight through this. And he won
- 5:17Speaker 1: that fight last night with three times on base, and
- 5:22Speaker 1: that that is what the Mariners need from him. We
- 5:25Speaker 1: talked about this, They can win the West without him
- 5:27Speaker 1: hitting home runs, but him getting on base three times.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Let guys like dom can Zone who have four home
- 5:33Speaker 1: runs this season, Ramsey Rose Arena has four home runs
- 5:36Speaker 1: to see. Let those guys drive him in after he
- 5:38Speaker 1: gets on base, and then we'll see what the Mariners
- 5:41Speaker 1: offense looks like. And we got to start somewhere on
- 5:44Speaker 1: Chris and three times on base, that's that's pretty good
- 5:47Speaker 1: and none of them are home runs.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's a good sign for col Right, Obviously,
- 5:52Speaker 2: he wants to play through whatever he's going through, which
- 5:55Speaker 2: can be a great thing. I mentioned some adversity. That's
- 5:57Speaker 2: good for him that he can play through that. And
- 5:59Speaker 2: having getting on base yesterday, I know it was just
- 6:03Speaker 2: a huge weight off his shoulders getting a hit and
- 6:05Speaker 2: his teammates showing love.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Right, they're a team and.
- 6:08Speaker 2: They all believe on one another, and they know he's
- 6:09Speaker 2: just going through a rough patch and they stuck with it.
- 6:12Speaker 1: He's stuck with it.
- 6:13Speaker 2: So for him to have a single, two singles that is,
- 6:19Speaker 2: that has to feel great for him. Now it's just
- 6:21Speaker 2: about stacking, As Mike McDonald would say, can you stack
- 6:23Speaker 2: some more singles or get on base and get other
- 6:25Speaker 2: players opportunity for you guys to score, because yes, home
- 6:29Speaker 2: runs are great, but if that's all this team is
- 6:32Speaker 2: all about, that could come back and haunt you later
- 6:34Speaker 2: down in the postseason when it matters to get guys
- 6:36Speaker 2: on base and manufacturer runs as opposed to smacking homewarers
- 6:40Speaker 2: every play, which is I don't think people are gonna
- 6:42Speaker 2: be mad. But what he did last season is very
- 6:44Speaker 2: tough to repeat. So I think he's realizing that, hopefully,
- 6:48Speaker 2: and he could take it and stride and have a
- 6:51Speaker 2: consistent season this year, not a elite one where maybe
- 6:54Speaker 2: he's in the MVP discussion, but hell, maybe he can't
- 6:57Speaker 2: get in the MVP discussion just by getting on base, right,
- 7:00Speaker 2: he's getting on base, bringing getting RBIs. I fully believe that,
- 7:04Speaker 2: and the Mayors are winning. I think he could definitely
- 7:06Speaker 2: get back in that race. But right now, just win
- 7:08Speaker 2: some games, sweep the trash Cansas, Greg would say, and
- 7:12Speaker 2: you're back up there potentially as number one the Aos.
- 7:16Speaker 1: So we'll see through all of this. You know how
- 7:18Speaker 1: many games they are back right now, they're one game
- 7:22Speaker 1: out of first place, and they're one game out behind
- 7:25Speaker 1: the Athletics, and there are one game under five hundred
- 7:28Speaker 1: with Bryce Miller pitching against the last place trash Cans
- 7:30Speaker 1: tonight in Houston, and Kyle Rawley is hitting one sixty
- 7:35Speaker 1: six in their game out of first place, so if
- 7:38Speaker 1: he can get on and also what was very encouraging
- 7:41Speaker 1: is the second single of the Sharper, one of the
- 7:44Speaker 1: two was to the opposite field, and we talk about
- 7:46Speaker 1: that a lot a lot, as John Oliver says, and
- 7:51Speaker 1: one of the only shows my wife watches on television,
- 7:54Speaker 1: but a lot of times when he gets in trouble,
- 7:56Speaker 1: in particular he's trying to pull everything, he hits a
- 7:59Speaker 1: sharp single to the opposite field, getting on base three
- 8:02Speaker 1: times last night. Yeah, that was pretty cool. You got
- 8:07Speaker 1: this from actually these kids, I mean that was funny.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Every single gal says you got this, which is what
- 8:13Speaker 1: parents say, and the good ones and the stands and
- 8:16Speaker 1: the coaches and the dugout. You got this, No, you
- 8:20Speaker 1: got this. Hats off to Ella and Mill Creek Little
- 8:23Speaker 1: League for her insights on cal Rawley, who we'll see
- 8:27Speaker 1: if he's on the way back. He'll probably be in
- 8:29Speaker 1: the line up again today baby catching again. I mentioned
- 8:32Speaker 1: it's going to be a Bryce Miller start. He hasn't
- 8:34Speaker 1: pitched more than sixty one pitches in any of his
- 8:36Speaker 1: minor league rehabs coming back from that oblique injury that
- 8:38Speaker 1: has had him on the injury list since the beginning
- 8:40Speaker 1: of the season, which would pretend that today's gonna be
- 8:45Speaker 1: a bullpen day, right If sixty one has been his
- 8:47Speaker 1: ceiling so far, they're probably not going to trot him
- 8:49Speaker 1: out for ninety some pitches here in his first start
- 8:51Speaker 1: of the season, which means maybe Bryce Miller, if he's
- 8:54Speaker 1: efficient enough, might get into the fifth sixth inning before
- 8:57Speaker 1: they'll go to the bullpen, which made last night start
- 8:59Speaker 1: from really important in the regard of WU being what
- 9:03Speaker 1: WU is, and we talked that yesterday about how he'll
- 9:07Speaker 1: need to go at least long to Hie to help
- 9:11Speaker 1: the bullpen, which will have to play more the bullpen
- 9:13Speaker 1: will have to be pitching tonight in Houston. And then
- 9:17Speaker 1: Wu goes and pitches his career high and pitches thrown
- 9:20Speaker 1: him the start. You know that the Mariners Dan Wilson
- 9:24Speaker 1: and Pete Woodworth before the game, so you got to
- 9:27Speaker 1: go along tonight. Of course, because he struck out nine guys,
- 9:31Speaker 1: Long ended up getting him only through six innings. But
- 9:34Speaker 1: Brian Wu, you talk about an ace. Chris, when you're pitching,
- 9:38Speaker 1: coach and manager come to you and say, hey man,
- 9:40Speaker 1: we need you to run tonight a little long because
- 9:43Speaker 1: we probably have a bullpen day tomorrow. He throws his
- 9:46Speaker 1: career high and pitches Here's the other thing he did
- 9:49Speaker 1: that impressed me. This tells me Brian Wu is this
- 9:52Speaker 1: staff sace. Yeah, I know they got Lowan and Gilbert,
- 9:54Speaker 1: George Kirby's been an All Star, Louis Castier's at three
- 9:57Speaker 1: time All Stars. Of course, not pitching at all what
- 9:59Speaker 1: he used to be on the back end, it seems
- 10:01Speaker 1: of his career. But to me, Brian Wu is the
- 10:05Speaker 1: staff's ace. And last night was telling me why one
- 10:09Speaker 1: he throws when they needed him to, he throws a
- 10:11Speaker 1: career hind pitches. But two after Canzone's Grand Slam. It
- 10:16Speaker 1: went from a two two game to a six to
- 10:17Speaker 1: two game. Do you know what Brian Wu did after that?
- 10:21Speaker 1: The very first guy he faced after the Mariners took
- 10:23Speaker 1: a six to two Canzone Slam strikeout. In fact, he's
- 10:28Speaker 1: reached Brian Wu. After the Mariners took a six to
- 10:30Speaker 1: two lead. You talk about shutdown. He retired the next
- 10:34Speaker 1: nine trash cans to end his outing. Nobody else got
- 10:38Speaker 1: on base the rest of the night. That's what an
- 10:40Speaker 1: ace does. Your offense gives you a lead and then
- 10:43Speaker 1: the pitcher goes out and shoves to just extinguish all
- 10:47Speaker 1: hope from the other side. No momentum, no uprising, no hey,
- 10:51Speaker 1: we can get back in this uh nine up, nine
- 10:54Speaker 1: down after Canzone slam by Brian Wu. That's what an
- 10:58Speaker 1: ace does. And Wu has been pretty consistent this season
- 11:02Speaker 1: in doing that. Now, yes, he had a couple of
- 11:04Speaker 1: starts to go, very poor outing for him, and then
- 11:07Speaker 1: he rebounded in Chicago. Now he rebounded in Houston before
- 11:10Speaker 1: the Chicago series, I believe, and now in Houston. So
- 11:15Speaker 1: he's to me, you say, who's the staff. It's Brian
- 11:18Speaker 1: Wu and his results and his moxy to do what
- 11:22Speaker 1: he did last night. Yeah, I know it's a last
- 11:24Speaker 1: place team, but he struck out Alvarez, and he by
- 11:28Speaker 1: the way, Alvarez was rolling before this series and the
- 11:31Speaker 1: Mariners are throttling him. We talked about Munos striking out
- 11:36Speaker 1: Alvarez with the game on the line as the tying
- 11:39Speaker 1: run on Tuesday night or Monday night, and again Wu
- 11:43Speaker 1: goes after him as part of those nine up, nine down.
- 11:46Speaker 1: He struck out Alvarez as well. To me, that's an ace,
- 11:49Speaker 1: and I really every time I talked to Brian Woo,
- 11:53Speaker 1: I really enjoy it. He's got a great disposition, his
- 11:55Speaker 1: poise on the mound. He never seems to be phased
- 11:58Speaker 1: by anything on base. Their's nothing Umpire's call. He just
- 12:04Speaker 1: is unflappable. Good out of mea cal California Bay Area kid.
- 12:10Speaker 1: But to me, Chris, that's what Ance says. You give
- 12:12Speaker 1: him a lead, no more shutting down. Yeah, they had
- 12:15Speaker 1: two runs in first streetings, they got no more that.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I think he's the best of their best pitching staff
- 12:20Speaker 1: so far. I don't think anyone would argue otherwise. Brian Woo,
- 12:25Speaker 1: You're hoping other guys catch up to him, But for
- 12:28Speaker 1: right now where this team is at. Yeah, Brian wu
- 12:31Speaker 1: is woo. He is really good.
- 12:32Speaker 2: So maybe this is all going up from here. I
- 12:36Speaker 2: know this is a small, very small sample size, and
- 12:39Speaker 2: we don't want to get over our keysters in terms
- 12:42Speaker 2: of where this team could be. But to Greg's point
- 12:44Speaker 2: earlier in the week about there are only a handful
- 12:47Speaker 2: of games back if that at the time, I think
- 12:49Speaker 2: there were two or three games back on Monday.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Now they're one.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I believe they can sweep the Houston Astros the trash
- 12:56Speaker 2: Cans doing so with good pitching, getting on base and
- 13:00Speaker 2: had ten runs last night. That's a good sign against
- 13:03Speaker 2: a bad team. That's what you should be doing. So
- 13:05Speaker 2: hopefully they can continue that success through pitching, defense, and offense.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Because the start of the season, and we talked about
- 13:11Speaker 2: those three things, they.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Were all.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Combined just not good enough, whether it's pitching, defense, and hitting.
- 13:20Speaker 2: And now you're starting to see that that trend is
- 13:22Speaker 2: pitching is getting locked down again.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Okay, that's great.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Offensively against a bad team, they're hitting, okay, I'll get
- 13:29Speaker 2: my thumbs up. And then defensively they're playing much better,
- 13:32Speaker 2: more consistently, not too many crazy errors where you're like,
- 13:35Speaker 2: what the hell man? I mean, great, you talked about
- 13:37Speaker 2: a play yesterday. Who was it that came up to
- 13:40Speaker 2: make the JP croftord on the on that short hop? Yeah,
- 13:44Speaker 2: that could have easily gone as an error, and then
- 13:46Speaker 2: you'd be like, well, you should have just waited on it.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Then there's a runner on the tying runs come to
- 13:49Speaker 1: the plate with no outs.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely, it could have gone pretty badly, but it didn't.
- 13:55Speaker 1: He nailed it, got it, got him out. That's what
- 13:57Speaker 1: you need to see.
- 13:58Speaker 2: And now it's just about gosh might McDonald's stacking Okay,
- 14:02Speaker 2: I'm using it in stacking days stack day, and it's
- 14:05Speaker 2: even huge because it's a one eighty it's one sixty
- 14:09Speaker 2: two seasons. So with that being said, if you can
- 14:11Speaker 2: stack ten days, my goodness, this team could be on Fuego.
- 14:14Speaker 2: So against the Houston Astros, I know, through trash duh,
- 14:19Speaker 2: cool handle business, sweep them and you move on to the.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Next and you come home and the dads come up
- 14:24Speaker 1: from San Diego and the dads are good. Yes, so
- 14:27Speaker 1: they are much better, much of a better opponent, much
- 14:30Speaker 1: better pitching staff for sure. So chance to get the
- 14:33Speaker 1: five hundred tonight for the Mariners in Houston. Of course,
- 14:36Speaker 1: the last time they went to five hundred, they lost
- 14:37Speaker 1: four straight, but a chance to get back to five
- 14:40Speaker 1: hundred and still only a game out of first place
- 14:42Speaker 1: through all of this. Every hour, every weekday, we have

- 15:12Speaker 1: none of them so far involved in the Seahawks. We'll
- 15:15Speaker 1: talk about what that means for Seattle. Why the Seahawks
- 15:17Speaker 1: don't have an international game. I have a theory on
- 15:19Speaker 1: that that I think holds a lot of water. Remember
- 15:22Speaker 1: they've only had two in their entire fifty one year history.
- 15:25Speaker 1: We'll talk about that next at eleven o'clock, we're going

- 16:19Speaker 1: a walk in two singles, his first hits and forty
- 16:21Speaker 1: played appearances last night as the Mariners routed Houston ten two,
- 16:27Speaker 1: one game under five hundred. Now with two consecutive wins
- 16:30Speaker 1: in Houston. Tomorrow, the NFL schedule comes out officially in
- 16:35Speaker 1: full at five pm Our time this morning. The NFL
- 16:39Speaker 1: announced its international games, a record nine international games coming
- 16:43Speaker 1: up in the twenty twenty six season. The Seahawks aren't
- 16:47Speaker 1: in any of them. Although we've been talking a lot
- 16:51Speaker 1: about this first game and who could be It could
- 16:52Speaker 1: be the Patriots, the Cardinals, the Chargers, the Bears. We
- 16:55Speaker 1: had Mike Kadwick on yesterday from Boston, a Patriots supporter
- 16:58Speaker 1: for Sports Illustrator who thinks it should be a Super
- 17:00Speaker 1: Bowl rematch in Week one. A lot of people out
- 17:03Speaker 1: here are saying, who wants that see more of that
- 17:06Speaker 1: beat down the Seahawks fans, a lot of them that
- 17:10Speaker 1: I know that travel with the team the game they're
- 17:12Speaker 1: looking forward to the most to find out about tomorrow Chris,
- 17:16Speaker 1: Las Vegas. When do the Seahawks play the Raiders. The
- 17:19Speaker 1: Raiders are a road opponent for the Seahawks this season,
- 17:22Speaker 1: and a lot of people will travel as they do anyway,
- 17:25Speaker 1: but they'll definitely travel to Las Vegas. I mean when
- 17:28Speaker 1: I've fly to Seahawk games on Alaska, Delta usually take
- 17:32Speaker 1: those because there's a non stop still the cities we
- 17:34Speaker 1: go to, there are a lot of Seahawks fans, and
- 17:37Speaker 1: especially including the preseason, it's crazy, Yeah, a lot of
- 17:43Speaker 1: people with money to fly to an NFL preseason game.
- 17:48Speaker 1: That's a good always makes me shake my head, but
- 17:51Speaker 1: good on them for being fans. But so I'll let
- 17:55Speaker 1: you know what we know about the schedule so far.
- 17:58Speaker 1: We already talked about the Cowboys at Giant this week
- 18:00Speaker 1: one Sunday night game. The week one Monday night game
- 18:03Speaker 1: Broncos at Chiefs was announced yesterday. It'll be at an
- 18:05Speaker 1: Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. We know that Week two's
- 18:09Speaker 1: Thursday night game is Lions at Bills to open Buffalo's
- 18:12Speaker 1: new stadium in Orchard Park, New York. Week three, we
- 18:15Speaker 1: know Raven's Cowboys is going to be in Rio dejan Ara, Brazil,
- 18:18Speaker 1: the first Brazilian NFL regular season game. We know in
- 18:22Speaker 1: Thanksgiving the Cowboys always play at home. Well, they're going
- 18:24Speaker 1: to play the Eagles. We do know that probably a
- 18:27Speaker 1: late afternoon, early afternoon our time start on Thanksgiving week twelve.
- 18:32Speaker 1: We also already knew that the forty nine Ers and
- 18:34Speaker 1: Rams are going to play in Australia Thursday, September tenth,
- 18:38Speaker 1: the day after the Seahawks open the NFL season down
- 18:42Speaker 1: here at Lomenfield in Seattle. And then today they announced
- 18:45Speaker 1: all the international games already mentioned Ravens. Colts is in Rio, Brazil.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Week three, Colts Commanders in London. That could have been
- 18:53Speaker 1: a game the Seahawks played because they have the Commanders
- 18:55Speaker 1: as a road opponent. Commanders are the home team for
- 18:57Speaker 1: that game in London. Week four, it's going to be
- 18:59Speaker 1: the Colt against the Commanders. Week five in London, Eagles Jaguars,
- 19:03Speaker 1: and then Jaguars stick around for a back to back,
- 19:05Speaker 1: as they do almost every year in London Week six,
- 19:09Speaker 1: Texans Jaguars. Why do they do that, by the way, Well,
- 19:11Speaker 1: the owner has ties to London in England. Also, the
- 19:15Speaker 1: Jaguars often don't sell out their games at home in
- 19:18Speaker 1: the remodeled Gator role, at least have it in the past. Now,
- 19:21Speaker 1: they made the playoffs last year and there's renewed op
- 19:24Speaker 1: Division with Trevor Lawrence and the team down there. But
- 19:28Speaker 1: part of the reason the NFL sent them to London
- 19:30Speaker 1: all the time in multiple games at times is because
- 19:32Speaker 1: they don't mind giving up the home dates. More on
- 19:34Speaker 1: that in a minute. Steelers and Saints in Paris in
- 19:38Speaker 1: the first NFL regular season game in France Week seven,
- 19:41Speaker 1: Bengals Falcons in Madrid Week nine. I know the Bengals
- 19:45Speaker 1: can be interesting if Joe Burrow play as Jamar Chase.
- 19:47Speaker 1: But come on, Bengals, what did the good people of
- 19:50Speaker 1: Spain do to get Bengals Falcons? Of all the games
- 19:52Speaker 1: that they could have sent to the first game in Madrid, Patriots,
- 19:57Speaker 1: Lions are in Munich in week ten and Vikings forty
- 20:01Speaker 1: nine ers in the newly remodeled stadium in Mexico City
- 20:04Speaker 1: Sunday night football Week eleven. That also could have been
- 20:07Speaker 1: a Seahawks game could have been the Seahawks road game
- 20:10Speaker 1: against San Francisco being in Mexico City. But I didn't
- 20:13Speaker 1: think and it's true of the league didn't want to
- 20:15Speaker 1: have the forty nine ers play two division games internationally.
- 20:17Speaker 1: They're already playing the Rams in Australia. So I mentioned
- 20:20Speaker 1: about the Jaguars and when they weren't selling out all
- 20:23Speaker 1: their home games, the NFL would ship them to London
- 20:26Speaker 1: and have home games there. Part of the reason the
- 20:29Speaker 1: Seahawks have only played two international games in their history
- 20:33Speaker 1: is that they do not want to give up home dates.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Why of course, because they're sold out and they have
- 20:38Speaker 1: a waiting list of roughly ten thousand people on the
- 20:41Speaker 1: Blue Pride list of season ticket holders. So the Seahawks
- 20:44Speaker 1: have been saying, no, league, we're not going to be
- 20:46Speaker 1: a home team for an international game, don't. They don't
- 20:49Speaker 1: get to decide that, but they do have a chance
- 20:51Speaker 1: to request. And in fact, the only two times the
- 20:53Speaker 1: Seahawks have played at London in Wembley against the Raiders
- 20:56Speaker 1: in twenty eighteen and in Munich against the Buccaneers with
- 21:00Speaker 1: a designated visiting team. This season, the Seahawks have nine
- 21:05Speaker 1: home games in eight away a couple of years ago
- 21:07Speaker 1: when they went to seventeen games. Of course, that means
- 21:09Speaker 1: somebody's going to have more home games in a way,
- 21:11Speaker 1: and it rotates between the NFC and the AFC every year,
- 21:14Speaker 1: and this year it's the Seahawks turn to have nine
- 21:16Speaker 1: home games. I haven't been told this, Chris, but it's
- 21:20Speaker 1: a good supposition that the league said, okay, super Bowl Champions,
- 21:23Speaker 1: we'd like to put you internationally, but since you have
- 21:25Speaker 1: an extra home game, we want you to give up
- 21:27Speaker 1: a home date to be a home team internationally. And
- 21:30Speaker 1: the Seahawks said, Nope, Pound sand We're not doing that
- 21:33Speaker 1: because of all the people that pack our stadium and
- 21:36Speaker 1: the revenue we can get out of that, and we're
- 21:39Speaker 1: not going to rip our home fans off of an
- 21:40Speaker 1: opportunity to see us play in the NFL said, okay, fine,
- 21:43Speaker 1: and you're not going to play internationally this year. I'm
- 21:46Speaker 1: not told that's what happened, but I'm pretty sure that's
- 21:48Speaker 1: what happened, because a team that has nine home games
- 21:51Speaker 1: in eight away is often going to be asked to
- 21:53Speaker 1: be the home team. I mean, you look at the
- 21:55Speaker 1: home teams for most of these games. Cowboys are home
- 21:57Speaker 1: in Brazil. They have nine home games this year, Commanders
- 21:59Speaker 1: are home in London, they have nine home games this year.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Saints home game and an interconference game against the Steelers
- 22:05Speaker 1: in Paris, Falcons and so on, Lions and Patriots Lions
- 22:09Speaker 1: of the home team in Munich forty nine ers and
- 22:13Speaker 1: Vikings forty nine ers of the home team. So I
- 22:18Speaker 1: think that's where this comes from, because it normally, Yes,
- 22:20Speaker 1: if you're gonna have nine international games with eighteen teams
- 22:22Speaker 1: playing well in the forty nine ers case, they're playing twice,
- 22:27Speaker 1: seventeen teams playing that one of those teams, more than
- 22:29Speaker 1: half the league, should be the Super Bowl champions to
- 22:31Speaker 1: be showcased. But I'm pretty sure, that's how it went down,
- 22:35Speaker 1: and so be it. It probably means next year the
- 22:39Speaker 1: Seahawks will go. But anyway, four nine, four to five one.
- 22:43Speaker 1: What Seahawks game are you most looking forward to? Finding out?
- 22:46Speaker 1: When it is? We know who they're gonna play already,
- 22:48Speaker 1: which is kind of funny about this whole scheduling drama.
- 22:51Speaker 1: It's just when I mentioned that Christmas is on a Friday,
- 22:55Speaker 1: it's likely there're gonna be three Christmas Day games again,
- 22:59Speaker 1: one of us maybe streaming it was on Netflix the
- 23:02Speaker 1: last couple of Christmases, and the Seahawks are I think
- 23:04Speaker 1: definitely in play for that. Hopefully it's at home for
- 23:08Speaker 1: all of our sakes and including my families. But what
- 23:13Speaker 1: game are you most interested in? Las Vegas has one
- 23:15Speaker 1: Marcus and the text line two oh six already chimed
- 23:18Speaker 1: in about I can't wait to find out when the
- 23:19Speaker 1: Vegas trip is becus I'm going which road game or
- 23:23Speaker 1: any game? Thanksgiving is a possibility for the Seahawks again
- 23:27Speaker 1: because they now have a primetime The Lions play a
- 23:29Speaker 1: home game every year traditionally. The Cowboys play a home
- 23:32Speaker 1: game every year traditionally on Thanksgiving, but now the NFL
- 23:35Speaker 1: has added a primetime game which can be a wildcart
- 23:37Speaker 1: of any teams playing on Thanksgiving night, and the Seahawks
- 23:43Speaker 1: did that a couple of years ago against the forty
- 23:44Speaker 1: nine Ers, if I'm not mistaken, Yeah, it wasn't that
- 23:48Speaker 1: long ago. So that's where the NFL scheduling goes. And
- 23:52Speaker 1: again we know who the teams are going to be.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Only the NFL could make this a production like it's
- 23:57Speaker 1: making it, leaking it out on morning times of the
- 24:00Speaker 1: networks that are going to broadcast it and so on.
- 24:03Speaker 1: It's Roger Goodell, the Commissioner, said yesterday that he has
- 24:09Speaker 1: approved the schedule. The scheduling. Vice president presented it to
- 24:13Speaker 1: him and he blessed it. So it's ready to go.
- 24:15Speaker 1: And this now is when the leaks start coming out
- 24:18Speaker 1: of all kinds of so and so is going to
- 24:21Speaker 1: play so and so Week four. We've learned some of
- 24:24Speaker 1: them are fake, some of them online you see are
- 24:26Speaker 1: not legit, but some of them are real, and some
- 24:28Speaker 1: of them have been have a pretty good track record online.
- 24:33Speaker 1: But the whole thing will come out of five o'clock tomorrow.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Dave Softy Maher and Dick Fane will have it during
- 24:37Speaker 1: their show live. I'll have it my story at the
- 24:40Speaker 1: News Tribune dot com. The Seahawks are going to travel
- 24:43Speaker 1: three times back to the East Coast and back, but
- 24:47Speaker 1: it looks like they're not going to be any ten
- 24:49Speaker 1: AM games. It appears we'll see there's a reason for that.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Don't need to get into it, but there's a chance
- 24:56Speaker 1: that they're going to avoid the ten AM Pacific games
- 24:58Speaker 1: on their three trips. East Washington's gonna be one of
- 25:02Speaker 1: them since they're not going to play the Commanders in London.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Is one of their London games. The twenty two thousand
- 25:11Speaker 1: miles is not onerous. I saw a release that said, yeah,
- 25:14Speaker 1: the Seahawks are the ninth most traveled team this year
- 25:17Speaker 1: because they're not going to London, because they're not going
- 25:19Speaker 1: to Florida like they did Jacksonville last year, because they're
- 25:21Speaker 1: not going to Tampa Bay. Excuse me, I think they
- 25:24Speaker 1: are going to Tampa Bay if I'm not mistaken, on
- 25:25Speaker 1: the road, but not to Miami, which is always a hall.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Twenty two thousand for a Seattle team is pretty low
- 25:33Speaker 1: compared to some years that they've been thirty thirty one thousand,
- 25:36Speaker 1: But the Seahawks are really used to that in the
- 25:38Speaker 1: travel aspect of it. What game Chris are you most?
- 25:43Speaker 1: Is it Christmas? Do you want them to play on Christmas?
- 25:46Speaker 1: What the opponent are you looking forward to finding out
- 25:48Speaker 1: when they play whatever?
- 25:49Speaker 2: To be honest, I don't want a Christmas game just
- 25:51Speaker 2: because that I just want to be chilling. Yeah, I'm
- 25:54Speaker 2: watching games that not having to pay attention like I
- 25:58Speaker 2: normally would not watching game, So I would h one
- 26:02Speaker 2: game that I am looking forward to. To be honest,
- 26:07Speaker 2: with this new team, I think every game is just
- 26:09Speaker 2: important just because in years prior this team always struggled
- 26:14Speaker 2: against the bad teams. But you've seen that transformation and
- 26:17Speaker 2: now that they're a super Bowl champion, every single team
- 26:21Speaker 2: is gonna give them their best, no matter what it
- 26:23Speaker 2: could be. The Raiders, for instance, they're gonna give them
- 26:26Speaker 2: everything they got, not that they wouldn't years prior, but
- 26:29Speaker 2: there's a different level just because this is a team
- 26:31Speaker 2: that won the Super Bowl, so everything is measured on that.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Oh we can beat the Super Bowl champce, what does
- 26:36Speaker 2: that say about our team? We might have a chance
- 26:38Speaker 2: to do something special. So they're gonna get everybody's best.
- 26:41Speaker 2: They're gonna say it like that and well they play
- 26:44Speaker 2: it the same way. Probably not, but that's what I'm
- 26:46Speaker 2: looking forward to. How does this team play against everyone
- 26:50Speaker 2: in the league now they have that target on their
- 26:52Speaker 2: back as the best of the best. Granted they're not
- 26:54Speaker 2: seeing it that way. They look at as a new
- 26:55Speaker 2: season and they have an ultimate goal. Obviously we all
- 26:58Speaker 2: know that repeating would be great, great, but from there,
- 27:02Speaker 2: they're looking at it a new season, new coaching staff,
- 27:05Speaker 2: a couple of new players. What's our goal? Super Bowl champions.
- 27:08Speaker 2: They're not thinking of, oh, what we did last year,
- 27:10Speaker 2: that's great. They're looking forward. So I know that for them, Yeah,
- 27:14Speaker 2: maybe they do lose a game that they should have won,
- 27:16Speaker 2: but how do they respond because that didn't happen last year.
- 27:18Speaker 2: All their games that they lost was like, oh, okay,
- 27:21Speaker 2: we get it. Losing to the Rams, okay, understandable.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Sam Donalds four interceptions that day, not the best, but okay.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Okay, yeah, that was
- 27:32Speaker 2: that team was hot, they were playing.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Really good football. Seahawks were banged up.
- 27:36Speaker 2: You can go through the list of things that happened
- 27:39Speaker 2: to that team, to the Seahawks and why they lost
- 27:41Speaker 2: the game. So it's not like, oh, yeah, they lost
- 27:44Speaker 2: to the Texans and they were terrible, Right, that didn't happen.
- 27:47Speaker 2: They beat down the team they're supposed to beat, and
- 27:50Speaker 2: I think for if you're a Seahawks fan, that's a
- 27:51Speaker 2: positive signs. So for me, just looking at the entire
- 27:54Speaker 2: schedule when it is released, every game I think will
- 27:57Speaker 2: be just important and just as entertaining in front as
- 27:59Speaker 2: it was last season.
- 28:00Speaker 1: When you're like, oh.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Man, this is a game that I said that they
- 28:03Speaker 2: could lose because of what they've done in years prior
- 28:07Speaker 2: to where Oh Greg Bell, quarterback for the Saints, is
- 28:10Speaker 2: coming in town.
- 28:10Speaker 1: He might light them up for three fifty. That didn't happen,
- 28:13Speaker 1: right that. None of that, journeyman in your comment, None
- 28:17Speaker 1: of that.
- 28:18Speaker 2: So that's what I'm excited about, just seeing who they're
- 28:20Speaker 2: playing and the magnitude of each game, because there are
- 28:23Speaker 2: obviously there's gonna be some games that are like, oh okay,
- 28:25Speaker 2: that's a statement game.
- 28:26Speaker 1: The Patriots. I'm not worried about it. The home scheduled Patriots, Bears, Chargers, Chiefs, Giants, Cowboys,
- 28:33Speaker 1: forty nine Ers, Rams, Cardinals, the away opponents, I'd all
- 28:38Speaker 1: fun speaking of a Rata. I misspoke on Tampa Bay,
- 28:40Speaker 1: not this year. The away opponents of the Division fos
- 28:42Speaker 1: of course, Cardinals, Rams, forty nine Ers, and then the
- 28:44Speaker 1: Eagles at Eagles, at Commanders, at Broncos at Raiders at Panthers.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Seems like you can go to the Panthers almost every year.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Oh yeah, just like when Cam was in when he's
- 28:53Speaker 2: playing quarterback, it felt like every year you played them.
- 28:55Speaker 1: They In fact, the Seahawks already know who their twenty
- 28:58Speaker 1: seven opponents are going to be because of the league's
- 29:00Speaker 1: rotating schedule. Well, the home opponents are the Division ones
- 29:04Speaker 1: plus the Bears, the Lions, the Ravens, the Bengals, and
- 29:07Speaker 1: the Ravens, Yes, lamar In an NFC South opponent in
- 29:10Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven, the away opponents of the Division foes
- 29:13Speaker 1: and the Packers in Green Bay at Minnesota, at Cleveland
- 29:16Speaker 1: at Pittsburgh, an NFC East opponent, and an AFC South opponent,
- 29:20Speaker 1: and the rotating schedule to be determined by how they
- 29:24Speaker 1: finished this year four n One of those road games
- 29:27Speaker 1: I just I just mentioned, not just road games, but
- 29:30Speaker 1: any of the games I just mentioned, which one you're
- 29:32Speaker 1: looking forward to finding out when they play when I
- 29:34Speaker 1: still think it's gonna be the Bears that get announced
- 29:36Speaker 1: as the NFL opening game of September ninth, Wednesday night
- 29:41Speaker 1: here in Seattle. Up next, we're going to talk about
- 29:44Speaker 1: Michelle Hackett, revisit that story from Gig Harbor High School,
- 29:47Speaker 1: Chris talked to the fired then unfired girls high school
- 29:51Speaker 1: basketball coach yesterday, and then we're going to introduce you,
- 29:54Speaker 1: for those who don't know, the Washington State Football Coaches
- 29:57Speaker 1: Association in a really cool event they're having this weekend
- 30:00Speaker 1: with Mike McDonald and the Seahawks at Seahawks Headquarters in Renton.
- 30:03Speaker 1: That's coming up on ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome
- 30:17Speaker 1: back to the show, The Greg bellt Show with Christopher
- 30:19Speaker 1: Kidd here on ninety three point three kjrfm 'or on
- 30:22Speaker 1: every weekday ten am till noon, and Ferness is on
- 30:26Speaker 1: from twelve until three. He'll join us at eleven forty
- 30:28Speaker 1: five to talk about what he's got going on today.
- 30:31Speaker 1: What we still got going on today is we got
- 30:34Speaker 1: Craig Bartley, head football coach at Nuksack Valley High School,
- 30:38Speaker 1: who is also the president of the Washington State Football
- 30:41Speaker 1: Coaches Association. I have a really cool event with Mike
- 30:43Speaker 1: McDonald and the Seahawks at Seahawks Headquarters this weekend. We're
- 30:46Speaker 1: going to talk about that. We're also going to talk
- 30:48Speaker 1: about a subject that is really resonating with high school
- 30:51Speaker 1: and youth coaches in our state and around the country,
- 30:55Speaker 1: the entitlement of parents who are driving coaches out of
- 30:58Speaker 1: coaching youth in high school sports. Some really good coaches too,
- 31:02Speaker 1: And part of the mentoring event that's going on with
- 31:04Speaker 1: the Washington State Football Coaches Association at the Seahawks is
- 31:07Speaker 1: addressing this point directly. Michelle Hackett is part of this situation.
- 31:13Speaker 1: She went nineteen and six in her first year at
- 31:17Speaker 1: gig Harbor High School as a girls' basketball coach. She
- 31:20Speaker 1: was one point one game away from meeching the state
- 31:23Speaker 1: championships at the Takomodome in March, and then the athletic
- 31:30Speaker 1: director fired her, fired her because parents were yelling and
- 31:33Speaker 1: they didn't like her. And then two weeks later the
- 31:36Speaker 1: district said, ah, that process was flawed, you're unfired. You're
- 31:40Speaker 1: back coaching again. Christaher kid. Yesterday we were trying to
- 31:43Speaker 1: get Michelle Hackett on the show to talk about this
- 31:45Speaker 1: whole situation, and to her credit, she took the high
- 31:48Speaker 1: road when she talked to you yesterday, didn't she Yeah,
- 31:50Speaker 1: she did.
- 31:50Speaker 2: She also stated that because I mentioned that a lot
- 31:53Speaker 2: of people that were responding to us having a discussion
- 31:56Speaker 2: texted in and showing support for her. I mentioned that
- 32:00Speaker 2: that the community in sports radio was really standing up
- 32:02Speaker 2: and behind her in regardless that everything took place, and
- 32:05Speaker 2: she was very appreciative of that. So she would like
- 32:07Speaker 2: to thank all of you out there that's sent in
- 32:08Speaker 2: the positive messages and just stuck with her, and she
- 32:12Speaker 2: just felt like now it was not the right time
- 32:14Speaker 2: to come out and talk about the situation, even though
- 32:17Speaker 2: I framed it as, hey, if you're not comfortable talking
- 32:19Speaker 2: about it, we want to talk about you and your
- 32:21Speaker 2: coaching and where that comes from and what you did
- 32:25Speaker 2: with the program at gig Harbor, but she I respected
- 32:27Speaker 2: it and she was not willing to join us. So
- 32:30Speaker 2: I just want to give you guys a heads up
- 32:32Speaker 2: that she did. Thank you though, for all the support
- 32:33Speaker 2: that you guys were giving, because that meant a lot
- 32:35Speaker 2: to her. I could hear that in her voice when
- 32:37Speaker 2: she was talking to me about it, So she was
- 32:40Speaker 2: appreciate to that but she's just said at this time
- 32:42Speaker 2: she'll stay away from doing that and just focus on
- 32:45Speaker 2: what she has upcoming. Because it was I think she
- 32:47Speaker 2: stated it was the first time coaching, So good for her.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Though, nineteen six that's off the coach Hackett, and thanks
- 32:54Speaker 1: to her for even taking her call.
- 32:56Speaker 2: And yeah, because I didn't think she was going to
- 32:58Speaker 2: pick up, but it was like the first ring, I'm like, oh, hello,
- 33:00Speaker 2: my name is Christopher Kjsworths Radio.
- 33:02Speaker 1: How you doing?
- 33:02Speaker 2: Blah blah blah got into it, and she was very
- 33:06Speaker 2: thoughtful in that response. And yeah, I'm just happy she
- 33:09Speaker 2: did take the call because she could have easily just
- 33:10Speaker 2: sent it to voicemail and then I.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Have to leave a lengthy voicemail that might not get returned.
- 33:14Speaker 2: But yeah, she was really cool and expressed her feelings
- 33:17Speaker 2: and herself in terms of why she wouldn't do it.
- 33:19Speaker 2: I won't go into the details, but again, she did
- 33:22Speaker 2: want to thank you guys out there in the community
- 33:24Speaker 2: that listened to this show and all the shows that
- 33:26Speaker 2: were supporting her.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Well, that's off to her. She sounds like someone that
- 33:30Speaker 1: needs to stay in youth in high school sports, and
- 33:33Speaker 1: let's hope we can keep her here that's the whole issue,
- 33:35Speaker 1: is that coaches that are really qualified and have some
- 33:39Speaker 1: really great skills, life lessons and building of young men
- 33:45Speaker 1: and women are leaving the profession. And the Washington State
- 33:49Speaker 1: Football Coaches Association is aware of this. I mentioned the
- 33:53Speaker 1: event they're going to have this weekend, Well, part of
- 33:55Speaker 1: it is around this issue, and the state football coach
- 33:59Speaker 1: as soci got Ahold of this week to tell me
- 34:01Speaker 1: that they are partnering with the Seahawks and celebrating the
- 34:03Speaker 1: achievements of longtime high school coaches. There's a Hall of
- 34:06Speaker 1: Fame induction ceremony for the class of twenty twenty six
- 34:09Speaker 1: at Seahork headquarters on Sunday, and they're also providing resources
- 34:12Speaker 1: to help new high school coaches build and sustain successful programs.
- 34:17Speaker 1: The Football Coaches Association here in our state has noticed
- 34:20Speaker 1: a quote alarming trend over the past decade of new
- 34:23Speaker 1: high school football coaches resigning within the first few years
- 34:26Speaker 1: of leading a program. The challenges of operating successful football
- 34:30Speaker 1: program are many, and it is a priority for WSFCA
- 34:35Speaker 1: to help these head coaches succeed so they stay in
- 34:37Speaker 1: the game and in their communities for many years. So
- 34:41Speaker 1: what they're having is coach Mike McDonald, the Super Bowl
- 34:43Speaker 1: winning head coach of the Seahawks, is going to have
- 34:45Speaker 1: a mentoring workshop with these coaches at Seahawks headquarters on Sunday.
- 34:50Speaker 1: But it's not open to the coaches who've been around
- 34:52Speaker 1: a while. It's going to be open exclusively to Washington
- 34:56Speaker 1: State high school football coaches who are years zero to
- 34:59Speaker 1: three of the head coaching careers, or assistant coaches who
- 35:02Speaker 1: would aspire to become head coaches and in their future.
- 35:07Speaker 1: So that's what makes this cool. The mentorship schedule events
- 35:10Speaker 1: was prepared similar to a coaching clinic, but this day
- 35:13Speaker 1: will not be about x's and o's rather than mentor.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Speakers at Seahawks headquarters, including Mike McDonald on Sunday, will
- 35:19Speaker 1: be covering all of the other topics that truly make
- 35:22Speaker 1: head coaches successful of a long period of time. There
- 35:24Speaker 1: will be presentations about program organization, parent and player communications. Man,
- 35:31Speaker 1: did I learn something about being ahead baseball coach? Varsity
- 35:34Speaker 1: baseball coach? About that? Fundraising? ASB and booster clubs are
- 35:38Speaker 1: also talking Sunday at Seahawks headquarters a mentorship about hiring
- 35:42Speaker 1: and staffing of a coaching staff, community alignment, team culture
- 35:46Speaker 1: and leadership relationships, plus relationships with administrators and athletic directors
- 35:50Speaker 1: and more. So, Mike McDonald is not just going to
- 35:53Speaker 1: talk about, hey, we love running mixes of Cover two
- 35:56Speaker 1: and Cover six and Shady. No, he's going to talk
- 35:59Speaker 1: about building culture and building relationships. Mike McDonald incidentally became
- 36:04Speaker 1: a high school football coach for the first time while
- 36:07Speaker 1: he was still an undergraduate at the University of Georgia.
- 36:10Speaker 1: He went across town and basically talked his way onto
- 36:13Speaker 1: the local high school coaching staff and was a freshman coach.
- 36:16Speaker 1: That was his first job, so he knows high school
- 36:19Speaker 1: football coaching from the ground up as a ninth grade coach,
- 36:22Speaker 1: and now he's a Super Bowl champion coach. The Washington
- 36:25Speaker 1: State Football Coaches Association says the program on Sunday at
- 36:30Speaker 1: Seahawks is designed to give new and aspiring head coaches
- 36:32Speaker 1: practical application information that they can take back and implement
- 36:36Speaker 1: in their own football programs, and provide them with an
- 36:39Speaker 1: opportunity to build relationships with experienced coaches who will be
- 36:42Speaker 1: able to help them as they tackle the myriad challenges
- 36:45Speaker 1: that face a head coach. Building a program. This program
- 36:49Speaker 1: is all about head coaches helping head coaches. That's the
- 36:52Speaker 1: Seahawks and the Washington State Football Coaches Association working together
- 36:56Speaker 1: on Sunday, and they are also going to induct their
- 37:00Speaker 1: latest class of Hall of Fame members. Now this it
- 37:04Speaker 1: sounds like a who's who of Washington state high school
- 37:07Speaker 1: football coaches that are in this organization. Joe Cronin is
- 37:10Speaker 1: the vice president. He's the Archbison Murphy High School course
- 37:13Speaker 1: in the Powerhouse and Everett and Mill Creek Monty Cooler
- 37:16Speaker 1: are the best who's ever done it. From chriss Oday
- 37:17Speaker 1: High School, the all time winning is high school football
- 37:20Speaker 1: coach in our state is the District two representative of
- 37:23Speaker 1: the Washington State Football Coaches Association. Jeff Logan of highly
- 37:26Speaker 1: successful Graham Capalsen High School is the District three Rep.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Greg Heard at Eastside east Like High School is an
- 37:34Speaker 1: at large Rep. Mark Heel legendary coach over at Kitsapp
- 37:38Speaker 1: Kitsap Hall of Famer, former Central Kitsapp and Bremerton High
- 37:42Speaker 1: School coach was the president before Craig Bertle, the Looksack
- 37:45Speaker 1: Valley head coach, has been there nine going on nine
- 37:48Speaker 1: years as the head coach of that program. So this
- 37:52Speaker 1: is really an extensive networking of high school coaches trying
- 37:56Speaker 1: to keep good height, young high school coaches in the
- 38:00Speaker 1: fold and not get out and say I'm done with this.
- 38:03Speaker 1: We're going to talk to Craig Bartle next, the president
- 38:06Speaker 1: of the Washington State Football Coaches Association, of what they're
- 38:08Speaker 1: trying to do to keep coaches from leaving because of
- 38:12Speaker 1: entitled parents driving them out in other factors. We'll do
- 38:15Speaker 1: that next. A ninety three point three KJRFM
