- 0:00Welcome back to Fostering Faith and I am gonna
- 0:03be your host Tracie Foster for this episode of
- 0:06Fostering Faith. And I hope that this week is
- 0:10just been really good for you guys and we are
- 0:14in back to school volleyball and we are just
- 0:19coming off a youth conference and let me tell
- 0:22you that God is moving in our youth all across
- 0:26America, all across the United States. Africa,
- 0:31Asia, China, I mean he is on the move and you
- 0:35can just see that with our kids in our Refresh
- 0:38Conference this last past weekend, we had over
- 0:43200 kids there worshipping God, leaning in and
- 0:47just being open and vulnerable and it was such
- 0:52an amazing experience and I love that our church
- 0:55has heart for youth and we have to build up our
- 1:00younger generation and as older saints and we
- 1:05have to have you know the culture right, we need
- 1:10to know the culture and meet them where they're
- 1:12at. And so welcome back to Fostering Faith. I
- 1:15am so glad that you're here today because we're
- 1:17gonna be talking about something that hits every
- 1:19single one of us. Whether you're a teenager in
- 1:21a youth group, a mom trying to make it through
- 1:23a busy week, a leader pouring out into your kids
- 1:27or someone scrolling through life, feeling unnoticed.
- 1:31This one's for you. And so let's get real. We
- 1:33live in a culture obsessed with famous people
- 1:35and verified check marks and blue check marks,
- 1:38platforms, followers, likes, conference speakers,
- 1:42athletes with the highlight reels, worship leaders
- 1:45with a voice that makes you want to cry. And
- 1:49we are lucky and fortunate to have someone like
- 1:51that on our worship team. AJ, shout out to AJ.
- 1:55And influencers with a million followers. But
- 1:57listen, I'm not saying that it's bad. I'm not
- 2:01here to bash anybody, and God has blessed people
- 2:04with influence, and many of them are using their
- 2:07platform for good, for kingdom good, and praise
- 2:11God for that. But here's the tension. When we're
- 2:14so focused on the famous, we overlook the faithful.
- 2:20And so we're caught up in the big names, and
- 2:22we're caught up in, you know, we're missing the
- 2:24faces, you know, that are right in front of us.
- 2:28And so because here's the truth that I want to
- 2:31lay down today. God is with you in your best
- 2:33day and in your worst day. He doesn't only show
- 2:36up in the spotlight moments. He shows up in everyday
- 2:39moments. He doesn't only speak through famous
- 2:43people. He speaks through faithful voices. And
- 2:46a lot of times those voices are sitting right
- 2:49next to you. They don't have a blue check mark.
- 2:52They don't have the followers. They've not had
- 2:55videos that have hit a million views. They may
- 2:58not even be on social media and or own a smartphone.
- 3:02But he's put these people in front of you. And
- 3:06so, let's talk about God in the ordinary. The
- 3:10people that are right in front of you. And so,
- 3:13let's start with this past weekend. We had a
- 3:15kids conference in Lemotelia. The energy was
- 3:19amazing. Worship was loud. Kids were dancing.
- 3:23And the minute the word got out that Evan and
- 3:27Anna were gonna come because our kids had went
- 3:30to access conference hashtag access conference
- 3:33Down at the life church in Tennessee. They lost
- 3:37their mind They were so excited that these guys
- 3:40were coming back because the energy that they
- 3:42had down in the access conference was lit They
- 3:45were so excited and we were so so privileged
- 3:48that they came Up to speak at our youth conference.
- 3:52We were so excited and so you should have seen
- 3:56it The phones were out the selfies were taken
- 3:57the hashtags were happening kids were quoting,
- 3:59you know every single word that was coming out
- 4:03of their mouth because it hit home with them
- 4:05God moved in such a big way and We loved every
- 4:10minute of it. I love seeing kids so excited to
- 4:12hear God's Word. I love seeing them honor the
- 4:16men and women that came to serve at this conference
- 4:18who have been faithful and preach the gospel.
- 4:21It was so, so good. But as I watched this, I
- 4:26had this thought that really tugged at me. What
- 4:30if we carried that same excitement for the people
- 4:33that God has already placed in our lives every
- 4:36single week? What if we learned and leaned in
- 4:41and liked what our small group leader spoke.
- 4:45What if we got so excited at our youth pastor
- 4:47or our senior pastors text us just to check on
- 4:50us? What if we didn't roll our eyes when our
- 4:53parents gave us encouragement, but instead we
- 4:56treated it like it was a gift? Because here's
- 4:59the thing, if someone quote -unquote famous texts
- 5:02you, you probably respond immediately, right?
- 5:07you'd be like, oh my gosh, they noticed me. They
- 5:11said my name. They replayed my story. They reposted
- 5:17me. And you'd take a screenshot and you'd post
- 5:21it and you'd frame it. But what if we treated
- 5:25every encouraging message from a leader, a mentor,
- 5:29a friend with that same kind of energy and not
- 5:34out of guilt. Not because we quote -unquote should,
- 5:37but because those are the voices that God is
- 5:40using to speak into your life right now. And
- 5:43so let me say this, God doesn't just speak through
- 5:46famous people or Instagram, you know, TikTok,
- 5:50whatever. He speaks for the faithful. And more
- 5:54often than not, the faithful voices are the people
- 5:57standing right in front of you. And so let's
- 6:01stand on some scripture. So let's let's ground
- 6:03this in some scripture Because you know me I
- 6:06I don't want to give you good thoughts I want
- 6:09to give you God's truth and so we have Matthew
- 6:1125 40 that says truly I tell you whatever you
- 6:14do for one of The least of these brothers and
- 6:18sisters of mine you did for me And so think about
- 6:22that Jesus Jesus identifies himself with the
- 6:25overlooked with the people we don't naturally
- 6:28get excited about. We have Hebrews 13 2 that
- 6:32says, do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers,
- 6:37for by this some have entertained angels without
- 6:40even knowing it. And that means every encounter,
- 6:44every conversation, every moment could be a divine
- 6:48appointment. And not to get overwhelmed and over
- 6:52theorize all the things. You're going to have
- 6:54conversations, but it's about just looking for
- 6:57opportunities of God's little blessings in everyday
- 7:01conversation. And we have 1 Samuel 16 7 that
- 7:06says, a man looks at the outward appearance,
- 7:09but the Lord looks at the heart. We're drawn
- 7:11to big names and big stages, but God, he looks
- 7:16at the faithful heart. And throughout scripture,
- 7:19God uses the ordinary. David was just a shepherd
- 7:22boy. Mary was a teenager girl. In Nazareth the
- 7:27disciples were fishermen and tax collectors.
- 7:29No blue check marks. No platforms just willing
- 7:34hearts and So let's bring it to where we are
- 7:38at and so some of you listening right now are
- 7:41on your best day Life feels like it's lining
- 7:44up. You got the promotion your kid made the team
- 7:48your relationships are going good and you feel
- 7:50like God's presence is Right there with you But
- 7:55others of you, you're on your worst day. You're
- 7:58overwhelmed. The bills are piling up. Your marriage
- 8:01is junk. And you're wondering if God even notices.
- 8:07But here's the truth. That God equally is present
- 8:11in both our best day, and he's saying, don't
- 8:14forget me. Don't think that the success came
- 8:17from you alone. And he's there on your worst
- 8:20day. He's whispering, I will never leave you
- 8:24nor forsake you. And how does this, how does
- 8:27he remind us of that? Often through people. Through
- 8:31the friends who text us just at the right time,
- 8:34through the hug from a child, through the leader
- 8:37who shows up week after week after week. That's
- 8:40God saying, I see you. I'm with you. And so because
- 8:45of those scriptures above, I had an experience
- 8:48last night. And so let me tell you what happened.
- 8:50And so I was driving home. I had to, I put my
- 8:53mother -in -law to bed. Derek was with Gia at
- 8:56an away volleyball game. And so we switch off.
- 8:59If he's gone, I stay home and take care of our
- 9:02mother -in -law. As you've listened to this podcast
- 9:04before, she has MS and she's wheelchair bound.
- 9:07And so we are caregivers for her. So I was, over
- 9:11her house taking care of things and I drove past
- 9:15these guys and they had a tire off and so I thought
- 9:18that they were just kind of changing a tire.
- 9:21and went to her house, did all the things, and
- 9:25was coming back, and they were still there. And
- 9:28so I pulled up to them, it was two gentlemen,
- 9:30and I pulled up, and they were speaking Spanish,
- 9:33and your girl does not know Spanish, but I have
- 9:35Google Translate, and so I pulled out my Google
- 9:38Translate and asked them if they needed any help,
- 9:40and they were like, no, it's okay, we have to
- 9:43change our battery, and I don't know if they
- 9:46really didn't need help, or they didn't need
- 9:47help from a girl. one of the two. So the other
- 9:51guy, and so I was like talking to him or whatever
- 9:54and then another truck pulled up as I was like
- 9:58kind of pulling off and I stopped and talked
- 9:59to him and it was this guy and I said You know,
- 10:06I said, can you stop and help him? I said I don't
- 10:07know if they were just not wanting to ask me
- 10:09to help him but I don't know because if and they
- 10:12were driving a Dodge and So you have to take
- 10:15the wheel off and if you've ever had dodge car
- 10:17because I did I had a Chrysler and my husband
- 10:19hated me for it Because the battery is in the
- 10:22inner fender. Well, which is ridiculous but anyway,
- 10:27and so like I they were riding the struggle bus
- 10:29and we're on the back of a country road mind
- 10:32you And so I said, hey, can you stop him? And
- 10:37we live in a very small community. I did not
- 10:38know this man that I was speaking to, but he
- 10:40had a little kid in his car and I was just like,
- 10:42I can run your little boy home and if you want
- 10:45to stop and help him. He's like, I've already
- 10:47passed these guys. They've been out here for
- 10:48four hours. I had to get my son to football practice.
- 10:51And so he was like, you figured two grown men
- 10:54would know how to change a battery. And I was
- 10:57like, how would they know? Said they're two grown
- 11:04men But if no one's ever taught them, how would
- 11:08they know that? how would they know like how
- 11:11to change a battery in like this random car and
- 11:15It hit me because it it isn't how we treat people
- 11:18sometimes we assume they should know better They
- 11:22should have it figured out but now But here's
- 11:26the truth if no one's ever taught them or you
- 11:29or me You don't know You don't know what you
- 11:33don't know. And so I told the man, I said, look,
- 11:36I can start nine different drips on you in ICU.
- 11:38I can put an IV in you. I can put a tracheostomy
- 11:41in you. I can do all the things. I said, but
- 11:44that doesn't mean, because I was taught that,
- 11:46but I don't know how to change that battery.
- 11:49And he was like, oh, I guess that's a good point.
- 11:54And so I'm sitting there judging them. What if
- 11:56we just stopped to help? What if we saw them
- 11:59not as inconvenienced? but as an opportunity.
- 12:03I even offered to take the little boy home, and
- 12:06I don't know if he stayed to finish the job,
- 12:10but I did go ahead and call the police just to
- 12:13see if they could go out there because it was
- 12:17getting dark, and so they really weren't going
- 12:18to get the job done. And I had text another person
- 12:22that owes a towing company, and he was busy at
- 12:24the time. My husband was gone, and so I just
- 12:27wanted to make sure that they were taken care
- 12:29of. And I honestly side note did not know that
- 12:33like cops did that and so I had text another
- 12:35friend And he was like just call the cops like
- 12:37they have you know They have roadside assistance
- 12:40or whatever and they'll get him help with what
- 12:41they need. I'm like shut up I didn't even know
- 12:43that so I called our local Police department
- 12:46and they went out there and took care of them.
- 12:48So I mean, here's the point God is in every person
- 12:52stopping Last night wasn't about a car battery
- 12:57It was about paying attention to the people he
- 12:59put in front of me and just like the people in
- 13:01walmart just like the people That he has in front
- 13:04of you at the grocery line at church at the school
- 13:07pickup people are in front of you But are we
- 13:10noticing them? Because they're just ordinary
- 13:13people And so let's tie this kind of together.
- 13:16So at the conference these kids were super hyped
- 13:18about these amazing Amazing preachers that came
- 13:22to speak and that's awesome But I don't want
- 13:25to miss The leaders and the pastors and the mentors
- 13:28all over our town And in the country and in the
- 13:32world and I have met so many like amazing um
- 13:37leaders, uh going back to school and so we have
- 13:39to do several Like online like kind of meet and
- 13:42greets and gets like to know people and there
- 13:45is so many people passionate around The world
- 13:48y 'all about loving God and spreading his word
- 13:53not to the youth but to Women's ministry men's
- 13:56ministry youth ministry. There are so many people
- 13:59that are on fire for God and the friends that
- 14:04God has placed right in front of us and the men
- 14:07on the side of the road needed help and The temptation
- 14:11to say they should know better, but God reminded
- 14:15me no They're made in my image And here's a chance
- 14:20to be a blessing. So here's my challenge for
- 14:23you this week. Celebrate the famous, sure, but
- 14:26don't miss the faithful. Be grateful for big
- 14:30names, but don't overlook the small voices. Notice
- 14:35the people in front of you because in God's kingdom,
- 14:38there is no ordinary people. God is with you
- 14:42on your best day and on your worst day. And most
- 14:46often he shows up through the people He's placed
- 14:49right in front of you. So we want to pray for
- 14:53you this week. I hope that you guys were encouraged
- 14:57by this message. And if it inspired you or if
- 15:01you know this would encourage somebody, share
- 15:03it with somebody. Repost it, like it, do all
- 15:07the things, be a blessing to somebody else. And
- 15:09so we would love to pray for you this week dear
- 15:12heavenly father. Thank you so much for these
- 15:13listeners Thank you so much that they are going

- 15:17put in front of them Thank you that we look for
- 15:21You and everything that we do in the creation
- 15:24in the people that you've put in front of us
- 15:26Thank you for being such a good god that you
- 15:29know exactly what we need when we need it before
- 15:31we even need it Thank you that you've given us
- 15:33eyes To see people like you see them. Thank you
- 15:35that you've given us ears to hear exactly what
- 15:38we need Thank you for good soil that this seeds
- 15:40that are gonna be planted this week grow So deep
- 15:45thank you for all that you do in Jesus name.
