Transcript
- 0:00The real challenge is when you leave there just living your
- 0:02faith and seeking God first. Not like my rabbi.
- 0:06You're literally saying the same thing that my rabbi's been
- 0:08talking before when you're in synagogue, when you were there.
- 0:11Like you're you're playing the part, but what are you doing
- 0:13when you're leaving? We we talked and he told me when
- 0:15I was here to. Ganging up on me.
- 0:17I have the rabbi yelling at me and the pastor?
- 0:19Yeah, Michael, everybody's upset with me even.
- 0:24If you're business oshi. None of your business, Michael.
- 0:27It's the None of Your Business podcast hosted by Michael and
- 0:30Oshi. Welcome back everybody to
- 0:33another. I'm going to go with this one
- 0:35inspirational episode of the None of Your Business podcast.
- 0:38I'm your host, Michael Greenfield joined with me is
- 0:40Oshi Schwartz. We are produced by the Prime
- 0:43Source Family production team and sponsored of course by
- 0:46Twillery. They're doing a great job.
- 0:48They're making noise out there. They have those stores and
- 0:50people keep telling me like what code can I use?
- 0:53And I tell them, just go in and mention none of your business.
- 0:55Just make sure that you know, people hear about it and it is
- 0:59our objective that people know the the name Twillery because
- 1:02they're doing a great job out there so.
- 1:03Love Twillery. Big fan of Twillery.
- 1:06I keep saying it. I've been shopping at Twillery
- 1:08even before I knew what kind of company they were and who
- 1:12founded that company 'cause we could go.
- 1:13I love their see your shirt. That's great.
- 1:15It's really. Good, we could see your shirts
- 1:16that you wore before Twillery. We were proud that we could be
- 1:19sponsored by Twillery, Absolutely.
- 1:21It's really an honor. I agree with that.
- 1:23And we appreciate all your subscriptions and your comments
- 1:26and your likes and your even your hates.
- 1:28It's OK, we'll take it all. We just want to grow.
- 1:31And that has been the real driving force behind the podcast
- 1:35recently. And I'm finding a lot of that is
- 1:37what I'm hearing from all of our listeners.
- 1:38It's growth oriented both personally and professionally.
- 1:41And that is it, That's the bottom line.
- 1:42I mean, it's we want to get people in the chair that are
- 1:46filling that role and our objective.
- 1:48And today we are certainly doing that to the very next level with
- 1:54someone that I just started hearing about.
- 1:56I mean, welcome to the program, Doctor Pastor Ben Graham.
- 2:01What an honor it is to have you with us here.
- 2:03Well, it's my pleasure. I'm glad to be here.
- 2:05And you know, you guys did it right.
- 2:07You started off with feeding me and so you know how to get to
- 2:11the heart of a pastor. That's what I'm going to say
- 2:13right there. I appreciate you saying that and
- 2:15you tried trolling for the first time.
- 2:17Did and it was amazing. As a matter of fact, I, I hope
- 2:21that I can find how to get that in DC so that I can eat it.
- 2:24It was I I actually really enjoyed it.
- 2:26Amazing. I love that.
- 2:27So we have this little segment that we like to do to get the
- 2:29audience to get to know who you are real quick called Chat Chi
- 2:32PT said. What about you?
- 2:34So before I do that, did you ever Chat Chi PT yourself?
- 2:37I never have. OK, we'll strap in.
- 2:40Here it goes. So and I do this to myself
- 2:43actually, just like 10 minutes before the guest gets here and
- 2:45I'll be like, OK, the chat chi PT knows how I want it.
- 2:47And I'm like, here's my guest. Just tell me a little bit about
- 2:50him and you know, make it interesting and unique and just
- 2:53say it in a one line punchy way. And so away we go.
- 2:57While most teens are figuring out Snapchat, he has given his
- 3:03life to faith at the age of 14. Wow, OK, I, I definitely want to
- 3:10get into that. You know, I, I'm hearing the
- 3:12word pastor. I myself am a chaplain.
- 3:14So I understand the world of, you know, giving back to the
- 3:17communities of and and representative of faith.
- 3:20It took about 3 minutes into the podcast for him to throw in that
- 3:23he's a chaplain. He's also already putting
- 3:26himself at your level as a pastor.
- 3:28He's making depressors. We're going to ignore that.
- 3:30But what I was going to. Say is that it took me 40 years
- 3:34to enter the world of saying, oh, let me help on an official
- 3:36capacity. Really.
- 3:38I got a badge out of it so it helps me when I get pulled over.
- 3:41By the way, best I was chafing with Police Department and best
- 3:45thing ever because I had my ID as well and I put it over the
- 3:48driver's license. Probably shouldn't be professing
- 3:51this right now, but you know, you get pulled over, you're like
- 3:54oh, let me get my license. And they see the police ID first
- 3:57anyhow, so it. Works.
- 3:58Does it really work? Well, I plead the fifth.
- 4:01I was. Going to say, what's the tactic?
- 4:03Do you actually mention something or you just take it
- 4:05out? No, it's on top.
- 4:06They, the Police Department taught me that to put it on top.
- 4:08So when you pull it out and then get your license, they see it.
- 4:13And the, the two times it happened to me, they said, oh,
- 4:16you're a cop. And I said, well, I'm, I, I was
- 4:18a reserve officer. I went through the police
- 4:20Academy in South South Carolina and I was like, you know, I am,
- 4:23but I'm more a chap when they're like, Oh well, thought I had
- 4:25somebody. God bless you.
- 4:26And it worked so. Preached in all 50 States and 30
- 4:32plus countries. Airlines call him Pastor
- 4:35Platinum. Wow.
- 4:37Is that right? All 50 states, All 50 states?
- 4:39You've been to every single state and preached in each
- 4:42state. Yeah, I've.
- 4:43I've preached in all 50 states. I've golfed in 39, I'm trying to
- 4:48get to all 50 and I've haunted in about 15.
- 4:51So you know, those are the things I keep up with.
- 4:53But. Best state that you golfed in
- 4:56Best courts. Hawaii.
- 4:57Hawaii, Al Tanabama, Mayor Arm, you heard it here first.
- 5:01OK, Yeah, yeah, we have two very on the island of Hawaii golf.
- 5:05They're big golfers. Yeah.
- 5:06So Hawaii, that's the best place.
- 5:08That's that's probably by far my favorite, but I have many, many
- 5:13places I've enjoyed. What about best location of
- 5:15hunting? Well, this is probably going to
- 5:18get in somewhere to talk about, but it has to be Northwest
- 5:21Missouri because when I was in my first year of college, I went
- 5:25to seminary. I was struggling because I
- 5:27wanted to play basketball and I had an opportunity, but I was
- 5:30struggling with that. And I went to seminary and my
- 5:33dad said go on this hunting trip with me and I was like I can't
- 5:35go. And he said just go.
- 5:37A farmer had invite him to go hunting on their property in
- 5:39Northwest Missouri. So I went.
- 5:42I ended up meeting the farmer's daughter.
- 5:43She's been my wife for 27 years. So yeah.
- 5:45So that's by far the best hunting hunting place ever.
- 5:48Good answer, she's gonna appreciate.
- 5:50That. That's a great story.
- 5:51I can let her watch this one. By the way, you'll learn about
- 5:54me on the podcast. I'm a pretty shallow person.
- 5:56I'm working on myself. No, stop it.
- 5:57Notice, notice how you said that you preached at 50 different
- 6:00States and you golfed in 39. I asked right away about your
- 6:03golfing experience, not where was the best state that you
- 6:05preached in or what was the best outcome for this.
- 6:07I didn't ask about that, but I'm working on myself, Pastor.
- 6:10I'm working on myself. But she you've grown a lot over
- 6:13the past 60 plus only. Reason I'm doing this positive
- 6:15is I get to meet people like him, yeah.
- 6:17I think you. Got to be the worst.
- 6:19Place I spoke at and I could tell you a story there.
- 6:22Let's wait, let's go. Go right into that.
- 6:24By the way, you're talking my language when I was. 18 I was
- 6:26speaking in a church in Texas and while I was speaking there
- 6:30was this young couple in the back that was sticking their
- 6:32tongue out at me the whole time, gesturing cuss words at me like
- 6:37whispering, but I could tell what they were saying.
- 6:39You can, you know, when somebody's saying that and my
- 6:41brothers and I, we sang in a group, we sang there, then I
- 6:44spoke and it was pretty distracting, you know.
- 6:47But when IA year before that I spoke at a nursing home, I got
- 6:51asked to come do this, maybe a Christmas service.
- 6:54And in the middle of that, this, this elderly lady comes
- 6:57streaking through. So that had prepared me for
- 7:00that, that you can get through anything, you know what I mean?
- 7:02So. She's living life, that Lady.
- 7:06She hasn't stopped living. Good for her people.
- 7:09Always wonder what goes on in nursing homes, right?
- 7:11You know. She had no clue where she was
- 7:12at, but she was. She was living life.
- 7:16You hold a doctorate and temperament counseling, and you
- 7:19can spot a mood swing before the coffee kicks in.
- 7:23OK, what is temperament? Counseling I love this ChatGPT
- 7:26temperament counseling. We, we, we do a evaluation to
- 7:30find out what your temperaments are.
- 7:32And then it really helps us evaluate why you struggle with
- 7:35certain things and helps us evaluate things like, you know,
- 7:39when my wife went through it, and she also has a degree in
- 7:41this, you know, she learned certain things about herself
- 7:44that, you know, we've been married for years.
- 7:46But but now we tell people before they get married to do
- 7:48this because going in, you understand, if, and I'll give
- 7:51you an example of my wife. So often I'd get invited to go
- 7:54to somebody's house, do a dinner, do something.
- 7:58Well, we'd get there and there'd be 4050 people.
- 8:00And she was so uncomfortable with that.
- 8:02If I asked her, you know, like, hey, in a couple hours we're
- 8:06going to go over here and we would go and she'd be so
- 8:08uncomfortable because she didn't have time to prepare herself to
- 8:11going into that kind of situation.
- 8:12For me, I can go in anywhere, you know, I don't know anybody.
- 8:16I'm fine. For her, it was panic to have to
- 8:18eat in front of people and and socialize in front of people
- 8:22that she hadn't had time to really think about it.
- 8:24It was part of her temperament. And so when you learn these
- 8:26things, helps you better understand how to prepare.
- 8:29Like, you know, there's certain things.
- 8:30I know that my wife needs time to process and there's certain
- 8:34things that, you know, different temperaments different, you
- 8:37know, involve different things. And so when you learn that about
- 8:40yourself helps you understand a little more of why you react to
- 8:46things certain ways. And, and in counseling, it was,
- 8:50I've been counseling since I was 19 because that's when I went in
- 8:53the full time ministry. But I really, and I learned a
- 8:58lot of things growing up as a preacher's kid and all that.
- 9:00You kind of learn to read people.
- 9:02But I think that really helped me even further be able to test
- 9:06people and verify things and then understand more how to help
- 9:10them and help them understand why they struggle with certain
- 9:13things. Love them.
- 9:15Similar to chaplaincy right? Isn't that a function of what a
- 9:17chaplain what a chaplain does? I only know about it because he
- 9:19only mentioned it like 8000 times so I know all about
- 9:22chaplaincy. Star of a movie?
- 9:26Fearless Faith. Basically the Marvel crossover
- 9:29of sermons and cinema. What is going on there?
- 9:32I do love that. I love that.
- 9:34That's not even the best movie I was a part of, but I'll take
- 9:36that. It was a great movie that was
- 9:39written by a a former cop, directed by a former LAPD
- 9:45officer. My work in in the Police
- 9:49Department. And I think there was two other
- 9:51people involved in that film and it was based on actual events
- 9:55from an officer. And I actually play a chaplain
- 9:58in that movie. I'm a pastor in the beginning.
- 10:00My wife gets taken hostage and that leads to me becoming a
- 10:05chaplain. And, and it's a great, great
- 10:08story. But I've been involved in a
- 10:12plethora of films. My wife and I have got to star
- 10:14in a couple movies together as the leads and more Christmas
- 10:18Hallmark type films. But it's something I love to do.
- 10:21I did my first movie when I was 11 and, and, you know, and just
- 10:25kind of kind of, you know, got in my system and, and I
- 10:29absolutely love doing that. So which one did you mention was
- 10:32your more favorite one or that more popular one?
- 10:35Well, I, I just, I think my favorite was the one that my
- 10:38wife and I did recently called Christmas at Keystone.
- 10:41The reason I love that so much is 1 her and I are the leads in
- 10:44it. You know, it's Hallmark.
- 10:45At the end, we kiss, you know, kind of thing.
- 10:48It was funny when we did the scene, and I hate to give it
- 10:51away, but I already said his hallmark.
- 10:52So everybody knows how that goes.
- 10:53But I at the end, I kiss. And then the director, I'll
- 10:57never forget. He goes, you know, cut.
- 10:58And he goes, hey, Ben, come here, let me show you something.
- 11:00He takes me back, shows me monitor.
- 11:01They replay it and he goes, what do you think?
- 11:03I was like, yeah, it looks good. And he goes, what, are you
- 11:05trying to gross this out? He's like, that's way too much.
- 11:07Sorry. I got excited, you know, but I
- 11:10also wrote a song called The Big Man's Coming to Town and they
- 11:15put that in the film. And there's just a lot I got to
- 11:17do in that film that made that kind of extra special for me in
- 11:21that. But yeah, no, it's it's fun and
- 11:24there's some, I'm signed to do a couple really big films coming
- 11:29up for me. They're huge opportunities with
- 11:31some A list actors and you know, I hopefully we'll get to do
- 11:36those. We're trying to work it out to
- 11:37film one at the end of next year with somebody.
- 11:41I can't say, but he's super famous and I'm playing his
- 11:43brother Co starring in it. So with my work I'm doing at the
- 11:47White House, you know all that. We're hoping it works out, but
- 11:50they've already give me the blessing to to be able to to do
- 11:53that. So I'm loving it, yeah.
- 11:56Wow, I'm loving it for you by the way.
- 11:58I'm living through you right now.
- 12:00I'm just imagining myself being able to be in a movie that's
- 12:04like a dream come true for so many people.
- 12:06You're speaking about it so nonchalantly, like.
- 12:08You know what I'm thinking about that's that's blowing me away is
- 12:10how he got excited to kiss his wife.
- 12:13Yeah, after four kids and you know you're.
- 12:15She's pretty hot. So no, it's 22 When I, I, I got
- 12:21to be careful how I say this, but Corbin Bernsen, who is a
- 12:24famous actor, he was in like Major League.
- 12:26He was in the show's Psych and he's been in hundreds of movies.
- 12:30He he was in the film and, and when he showed up and said, he
- 12:33told the AD, the assistant director, he said, when I see
- 12:37Ben, the way he looks at his wife, he goes, I see love in his
- 12:39eyes. But you know, we've been married
- 12:41a while, but you know still. What do you think that secret
- 12:44is? Because ultimately, you know,
- 12:46yeah. And all kidding aside, you know,
- 12:49marriage for kids later, living life and working and just
- 12:54speaking like that, this is what's catching my attention.
- 12:56I think, you know, when you first get married, you think
- 13:01love is probably the idea of marriage.
- 13:04You know, you a lot of folks get to there's hurdles.
- 13:07Year 4, year 9, I think year 9 was a tough year for us.
- 13:11I became a senior pastor of a large ministry and there was
- 13:14just a lot of things going through.
- 13:15But all these were building. And you know, what happens in
- 13:18life and anything you either get better, you get better.
- 13:21And you know, for us, we were able to get I think better.
- 13:23And then, you know, she's with 4C sections.
- 13:27We lost a boy. We have 4 boys, but between our
- 13:30second and third son, she was seven months pregnant.
- 13:32We lost a boy. She's had 9 surgeries, you know,
- 13:37four were C sections, but 9 surgeries.
- 13:39Since we've been married, I've been through cancer three times.
- 13:42I think going through those, there's a bond that that comes,
- 13:46you know, and she had grandparents that were married,
- 13:51I want to say I think 68 or 69 years, you know, And so the
- 13:56great example and, you know, and our family, we were kind of
- 14:01taught, you know, you know, divorces isn't an option.
- 14:04So, you know, if that's true, you got one or two options.
- 14:07You either, you know, you either work it loving each other or
- 14:11you're miserable, you know, and you know, there's been difficult
- 14:14days and we've been through our ups and downs like anybody and
- 14:17every great marriage takes work. I do think not everybody can be
- 14:22in a movie together, but I do think doing stuff that's a
- 14:24little outside of the norm helps keep a a, a passion there.
- 14:28Yeah. And fresh.
- 14:29Yeah. I, I think it's interesting find
- 14:32something like that. It might just be, you know,
- 14:34taking up a a new sports and bowling.
- 14:38I don't know. I saw a bowling trophy earlier.
- 14:40I think that's what that was. You know I have no anyway a.
- 14:42Little bit about Ushy any trophy he can pick up it'll be the.
- 14:45I just got a trophy a couple of nights ago.
- 14:46I won the softball tournament in my league.
- 14:48In my league, yes, prime source. We sponsored a bowling team.
- 14:51We won three years in a row. So that was a trophy you're
- 14:53seeing there. Very proud of it.
- 14:55Big shout out to myself. Yes, but I love that on this
- 14:58topic. I I actually had a question.
- 15:00I had one or two questions prepared and it's right on this
- 15:03topic actually. So I think it's a perfect
- 15:04segment. OK.
- 15:05If I ask the question now, Michael, I know you're right in
- 15:07the middle of your. Introduction.
- 15:08This is the idea. This is perfect.
- 15:10I love that. Yeah.
- 15:11I'm actually very, very excited to learn a lot about the
- 15:14Christian religion. And, you know, I think Jews and
- 15:17Christians, we have a lot in common, obviously a lot of
- 15:20shared history together. And I don't think the casual
- 15:23Jewish person knows too much, you know, intricate details
- 15:27about the Christian religion and vice versa.
- 15:29We know the basics. You know, we have a basic
- 15:31understanding. So I want to get a little
- 15:33educated. We love to learn about it.
- 15:35I understand that there's three different main segments in
- 15:38Christianity, right? There's the Protestants,
- 15:40Catholics, and I believe Eastern Orthodox, right?
- 15:43Those are the three main ones. There's a difference between a
- 15:47priest and a pastor, OK. And I think a priest is for all
- 15:51those different factions, right? And then you can have a pastor.
- 15:54And I think Protestants, I don't know if I'm saying that right.
- 15:57Yeah, you, you are. There's such a variety in
- 15:59Protestant. Not all Protestants have
- 16:01priests, but there are some that do.
- 16:03OK. So it's my understanding that a
- 16:05priest is supposed to be celibate.
- 16:07A priest is not supposed to get married, which is one of the
- 16:10differences from Jews to Christians, Jews, let's say the
- 16:13rabbis, which I believe correlates to what a, what a
- 16:16priest is, does get married. And I think in both religions,
- 16:21we believe that matrimony, the unity of a man and a woman is a
- 16:25holy thing. It's a pure thing.
- 16:28And it's something that's encouraged and it's, it's almost
- 16:31the fundamental of, of our lives to get married, to bear children
- 16:34and to raise children right under, you know, under God and
- 16:38to serve God. I always wondered this.
- 16:41I never really had an answer for this, but I always wondered, now
- 16:44that you're here, I'd love to, you know, get educated on this.
- 16:47If that is the case, then you'd think a priest who's at a even a
- 16:50higher level than, you know, the, the average person getting
- 16:54married setting that example would be something that even
- 16:56they would do. Why is it that in the religion
- 16:59priests do not get married? So this is where I'll give you a
- 17:03little history. This is where Catholics would
- 17:06disagree with us. But let's start back.
- 17:09You know, you know, God created Adam and Eve said be fruit, be
- 17:14fruitful and multiply. And then when God created the
- 17:16priesthood, you know, we, we read even they had sons, you
- 17:21know, they were married. And you, you go through all the
- 17:23Old Testament, all the religious rulers, leaders, you know, they,
- 17:28they were married, they had children going in.
- 17:30Then you start seeing in in the early church, you see the the
- 17:40leaders there, most of them were married.
- 17:43The only one that we're unsure of was Paul.
- 17:47But Paul at one time was a Sanhedrin.
- 17:51So therefore he must have been married because that was a
- 17:53requirement. We don't know if when he started
- 17:56following Christ, if maybe his wife left them, which you know,
- 17:59very much could have happened. We don't, we don't know.
- 18:01Scripture doesn't say, but we see they were all married.
- 18:05This is where us in the Catholic Church disagrees.
- 18:09Several 100 years in, in the three hundreds is when the
- 18:12Catholic Church was created. Years later, the Catholic
- 18:16Church, they get together and they make decisions on what they
- 18:19believe should be practiced. Somewhere along the way they
- 18:21said, you know, the Catholic Church is, is, you know, priests
- 18:24are not going to get married. But in Scripture it says that
- 18:28the Bishop, and that's actually what they call pastor, a Bishop.
- 18:32The requirements is he's to be the husband of one wife.
- 18:34So Scripture tells us we are to be married.
- 18:37Now, does that mean that somebody could be a pastor and,
- 18:41and, and not be married? I, I don't think it's so
- 18:44dogmatic that it's saying you have to be, but I think it's,
- 18:47there is a precedent that, you know, God is OK with you being
- 18:51married because the pastor is really an example of, of what
- 18:56the faith should be. And how do you live that out?
- 18:59How are you an example if you don't have a wife?
- 19:01How do you live that if you don't have a family?
- 19:03And we believe Jesus, you know, came for the bride of Christ and
- 19:08the Bible teachers of the church is the bride of Christ.
- 19:10And the Bible teachers were to love our wives as he loved the
- 19:14church and gave himself forward. And so there's this just this
- 19:17clear teaching of example of how husband should love his wife and
- 19:20that I think goes with that. And so that's where we would
- 19:23disagree with the Catholic Church.
- 19:26You know, Louis Schwartz, who you know, he, he's my, my new
- 19:30hero. I love him.
- 19:33And I better get that check after I say all this and I'm
- 19:35just getting I no, I'm joking. I love him.
- 19:37He's such a blessing. But we had these conversations
- 19:40today because, you know, they call a a priest father.
- 19:43And there's a scripture in New Testament says call the man
- 19:45father, but your heavenly father.
- 19:47And it's not saying I can't call my dad father.
- 19:50But there's a spiritual in, if you look at it in the Hebrew,
- 19:53there's a spiritual meaning of, you know, that reverence of
- 19:56Father is only to the heavenly Father.
- 19:59You know, no man gets that reverence.
- 20:02And in essence, a lot of people feel that the priest is trying
- 20:06to take some of that reverence. And, you know, we honor a rabbi,
- 20:10we honor a a pastor, you know, we, they call him reverend
- 20:14because there's a reverence. But at the end of the day,
- 20:17there's still people, yeah, who are flawed.
- 20:20And we know, we know rabbis who have messed up.
- 20:23We know pastors who have messed up, who've fallen into sin.
- 20:27And that's why ultimately our eyes must stay fixed on God.
- 20:30He is our ultimate, you know, because, you know, people can
- 20:34let us down. And so I think that's where we
- 20:36disagree a little bit. But Christianity certainly, you
- 20:40know, I know when I first started going to Israel and my
- 20:42family's been going since probably maybe late 60s, early
- 20:4670s. I'm not for sure when my
- 20:48grandfather started going. But, you know, there was this
- 20:52real hesitancy because certain Christianity persecuted the
- 20:56Jewish people, but it wasn't the Christianity that we come from.
- 20:59And there was some, you know, and, you know, we really wanted
- 21:03to let the people know. And I remember when I first
- 21:05started going to Israel and sometimes having those
- 21:06conversations and people are still a little hesitant.
- 21:09But I mean, there's a there's now it's growing people
- 21:12understanding that the, the Christian faith that we come
- 21:15from very much stands with Israel.
- 21:18Our, our, our buddy Charlie Kirk was a big fan of Israel, you
- 21:22know, and there are some Christians who, you know, really
- 21:26debate this, but we very much stand with the nation of Israel.
- 21:29We believe it's God's chosen people.
- 21:31God says, I'll bless those that bless Israel.
- 21:33And, you know, and that's one thing we stand for.
- 21:35And then we as Americans believe that God says, I'll bless the
- 21:39nation, that that blesses God and puts God first.
- 21:41And so, you know, that's what we strive for.
- 21:45And, and that's where we can come together, whether it's
- 21:48Catholic, you know, Vice President Vance talked about him
- 21:51and Charlie having some debates because, you know, Charlie was
- 21:55Protestant and, and, and Vance is Catholic.
- 21:59But we can get together and we can, we can disagree on some
- 22:02things and yet still, one, be civil.
- 22:06But then two, we can, we can talk about this and, and try to
- 22:08understand why. And I think that's so important.
- 22:11And, you know, this was this is what if you look in all society,
- 22:17this is always why people have been martyred because there
- 22:21there was leaders that were threatened by the thought of
- 22:25having conversation. You know, if we talk to them and
- 22:29people start believing, you know, we're going to lose what
- 22:31we have. And so, you know, most of the
- 22:33time as well, we just got to get rid of them.
- 22:35And but, but you'll find that that's, you know, a detriment to
- 22:41our society. You know, you mentioned Louis
- 22:43Schwartz. I'm not surprised that you had a
- 22:46very deep intellectual conversation already with him.
- 22:49He's probably one of the more cultural people that I know and
- 22:51has a vast knowledge and a wide range of things.
- 22:55You'll be surprised what else you know, he he knows.
- 22:57I always like engaging with him in these types of conversations.
- 22:59So you mentioned him. I had to had to say that.
- 23:02And you also mentioned Charlie Kirk, who recently was tragic,
- 23:06this event felt by millions of people around the world, not
- 23:10just in this country to kind of impact Michael that he had was
- 23:14just and young people especially, but on anybody.
- 23:18I just want to say my own sentiments, if I may, just for a
- 23:20moment about Charlie is a lot of people looked at him as someone
- 23:25who was able to take an argument or take a disagreement and
- 23:29unpack it and break it down in a way that was so articulate that
- 23:33so logical and and he made a lot of sense.
- 23:35And as if his function was to speak to the other side, people
- 23:40that disagree with him and to try to get them to see the ways
- 23:43that perhaps they can find common ground.
- 23:45Like that was how a lot of people viewed him.
- 23:47I viewed him and I think other people maybe share my sentiment
- 23:50is not even for the other side. It was for even people on the
- 23:54right for the conservatives, even where sometimes we
- 23:57struggle, we struggle as well with a lot of the things going
- 24:00on in the world and we struggle with a lot of the different
- 24:03ideas. And it was reinforcement for us.
- 24:06And I think that that is the biggest thing that we're all
- 24:11losing out on is on, you know, we're looking at who's going to
- 24:14be that voice of reason in the future.
- 24:17You know, who's going to take that?
- 24:18Because he filled that role immaculately.
- 24:21He filled it in in such a regal way.
- 24:24He filled it. And it's such a young age too,
- 24:26the amounts that he accomplished in such a short period of time.
- 24:29What I'm wondering is, Oh my God, what more could he have
- 24:31accomplished in the next 30 years?
- 24:33He did this all in about 10-11 years.
- 24:35He did this from the age of 19 till the when he came onto the
- 24:38scene and died at such a young age of 31.
- 24:41Give this man another, he could have taken over the world.
- 24:44And and it's not Even so much about, you know, there was so
- 24:47many people out there that are, you know, that need to, you
- 24:49know, hear logic and reason. It's for us, for the people that
- 24:53are under that are also. So everybody could have
- 24:55benefited from this. And to me, that is the biggest,
- 24:57you know, lost the kind of indelible mark that he left on
- 25:01this world and the accomplishments.
- 25:02I mean, anybody that knew him that even was in his
- 25:04stratosphere, that was in his orbit was lucky to even have a
- 25:08little piece of that in the short period of time that that
- 25:11he was on this world. So he'll be greatly, greatly
- 25:14missed, but not forgotten. And his word will, will, will
- 25:17carry on. And and he sent the message
- 25:19powerful enough that it will live on forever.
- 25:24Amen. He he was brilliant and could
- 25:26articulate well and you know, I think we were actually going to
- 25:31be together here in a few days and I was looking forward to
- 25:35that. I've been with them, I've, I've
- 25:39spoke at some of the turning point events and, you know,
- 25:42greatly missed. And I know our, the
- 25:45administration, I don't even know if we talked about this,
- 25:47but I, I, I work on the faith team at the administration.
- 25:50And, and, you know, President Trump thought highly of a matter
- 25:53of fact, I think he was very instrumental in helping
- 25:55President Trump get elected, especially with the, the, the
- 25:59younger votes. And, you know, and, and he'll be
- 26:02greatly missed. And I think it's, you know, it's
- 26:04one of those where, you know, what I pray comes out of this is
- 26:08that many will arise, you know, and maybe not just one voice,
- 26:12but many voices will arise and be emboldened.
- 26:15And so I'm thankful for that. And, and, you know, because of
- 26:19that, it's, it's brought a lot of prayer and contemplation in,
- 26:24in my life and in others. And I'm very thankful for that.
- 26:28You know, it's funny, you know, in life, you talked about awards
- 26:31earlier. I was, and this isn't even
- 26:35public knowledge, but about a week ago, I was in the hospital.
- 26:38Ended up, I had to go to the ER and I was there for a couple
- 26:40days and I was supposed to be given an award.
- 26:44And then I got asked to be in Canton, OH on Monday to get an
- 26:48award from the NFL alumni for my work on fighting human
- 26:51trafficking. And it didn't look like I was
- 26:54going to be there. And I was kind of bummed.
- 26:55And I'm I'm just sitting there and, you know, I'm seeing all
- 26:58these people that are thriving and I'm sitting here in the
- 27:00hospital kind of mad. And and this well known sports
- 27:03figure comes on. He goes, everybody wants awards.
- 27:06He goes, man gives awards, God gives the rewards.
- 27:08He said, let's go after the rewards.
- 27:10Now I am going Monday. I actually do get to get this.
- 27:14I'm excited. Mike Singletary, who played for
- 27:16the Bears, my favorite team, is the one giving me the award.
- 27:19On that. But the reality is, is, you
- 27:21know, I think often times we live this life for the
- 27:25temporary. And with Charlie, I think he
- 27:28captured and caught something that a lot of people struggle
- 27:30with, But he lived for the eternal, you know, and, and, and
- 27:34when you live that way, it gives you a boldness.
- 27:38He wasn't ugly about it. He wasn't unkind about it, but
- 27:41he never backed down. And that's why he could go have
- 27:43an interview with Gavin Newsom, who most people, if they said,
- 27:47hey, you want to interview, I'm not talking to Gavin Newsom.
- 27:49That's most people. That I watched the whole thing.
- 27:51But he did. He went on there.
- 27:52It was amazing. While he was friendly, while
- 27:54they had a great debate, he never changed who he was.
- 27:57You know, Charlie didn't, but and that's what I loved about
- 28:00him. And I think if we could all get
- 28:02to a place where we, we know who we are and, and, and we're truly
- 28:07grounded in our faith. We know who we are and God, you
- 28:10know, we can conquer a lot and it gives us a boldness.
- 28:14And you know, I think, you know, this, this Assassin's bullet.
- 28:20I, I, I, I think he, he thought he was going to stop this
- 28:24movement, but I think it's, it's going to do the exact opposite.
- 28:27He added fuel to the fire. He inflamed this moment.
- 28:31It's going to be bigger than ever.
- 28:33He thought he's going to silence him with a bullet.
- 28:35He actually just magnified this in one of the one of the biggest
- 28:39ways. It's a shame that it had to come
- 28:40at this cost and at a sacrifice of this young man who made such
- 28:43an impression. But the movement will, will,
- 28:46will live on. There's no question about it,
- 28:47Pastor. Is that what?
- 28:49Can I call you that? Yeah, yeah.
- 28:51Call me Ben. I'm OK with that.
- 28:53OK. Actually, Benjamin David.
- 28:55Benjamin David. OK name, right?
- 28:56I like Pastor. I think, you know, that's a it's
- 28:58a befitting title. You know, I think you've earned
- 29:00it. You know, you spoke at all 50
- 29:01states. Do you find the youth today is
- 29:06being drawn more towards the religious aspects as far as
- 29:11traditions, family values, things like that?
- 29:14Or do you find that, you know, the, it's a struggle and, and
- 29:17we, we have an uphill battle that, you know, we're, we're not
- 29:21necessarily winning right now. And it's going in the other
- 29:23direction from from your perspective, from what you're
- 29:26seeing out there in the world where, where is that trending?
- 29:29So about 10 years ago, people started realizing I got to get
- 29:33my kids, kids out of especially four or five years ago during
- 29:36COVID, I got to get my kids out of public education.
- 29:40That was a good move because our kids are being indoctrinated in
- 29:44most public education. There's just no doubt about it.
- 29:47Not all public schools are bad. Not all public teachers are bad,
- 29:50but there is an indoctrination going on.
- 29:52Started bringing them out universities, same thing that
- 29:55we've been dealing with this forever.
- 29:56There is a, a liberal woke mindset that's there.
- 30:01Well, what's happening now is we're seeing a movement,
- 30:05especially amongst young men that they are turning back to
- 30:09religion. They're turning back to a more
- 30:14traditional religion. But but not like 50 years ago,
- 30:1640 years ago, people went to church and maybe they heard the
- 30:19pastor speak and they just took that as truth.
- 30:23Now they're like, show me, I need to see it.
- 30:25Let me see from scripture. Let me see.
- 30:28People want to know, is this really true?
- 30:29You know, with ChatGPT, with Google, they can type it up and
- 30:33look and see, you know, tons of things on it.
- 30:37But there is a growing and the reason is, is because for so
- 30:39long young men have, I mean, Hollywood's been doing it.
- 30:42Disney's been doing it. They've been, they've been taken
- 30:45away this understanding of, of what a, a man should be.
- 30:50And these young men are looking for something that's real.
- 30:52They're looking for something that's legit.
- 30:54And thankfully they're finding it in religion, they're finding
- 30:57it in faith. And so there is, it is growing,
- 30:59but there's still a lot of people who are still into the
- 31:03woke ideology. They're, they're still the
- 31:05universities. And, you know, even with this
- 31:07Charlie thing, there's been quite a few professors and
- 31:10different ones that were fired because they were praising the
- 31:13fact that he was martyred. And, and I'm glad that some
- 31:16universities are stepping up and saying they're, you know, no
- 31:19place for that here, whether you agree or don't agree, you know,
- 31:22you can't celebrate the death of somebody being assassinated.
- 31:25So, you know, I, I, I think we're seeing a little shift.
- 31:29We need a lot more of it, but we're seeing a little shift.
- 31:31And I'm seeing a lot more young people who are looking at
- 31:36conservative moral values and saying I want more of that.
- 31:40And that's very encouraging. Yeah.
- 31:42Yeah, I must continue this because there's a couple of
- 31:44points here that like, you know, I'm reading here and I'm like,
- 31:47wow, this must be I. Actually want to know what it
- 31:49says 'cause I'm laughing at. No, but you know, also you know,
- 31:53you're asking great questions. Is she and you're?
- 31:56Answering, I got lots more. I got lots.
- 31:57More you're answering great. But you know, I think what the
- 32:00world needs to hear is the credibility of where the answers
- 32:02are coming from. And that's what I'm about to get
- 32:03to, which is the meat and potatoes of the ChatGPT, pun
- 32:07intended, for the challenge. By the way, newly crowned faith
- 32:11director for the Trump administration, America's
- 32:14official hotline to heaven, now has a direct extension.
- 32:19Hotline to heaven. Hotline to heaven.
- 32:21I mean, to me, this is like you. You were speaking about Louis
- 32:24Schwartz, by the way, Rabbi Louis Schwartz to us is known as
- 32:28just simply laser. He's just our laser guy.
- 32:30Can I just say too, if you want, if you want to grow in your
- 32:33faith, let laser drive you, maybe.
- 32:38I'm sorry. By the way, we need to end this
- 32:40podcast right now. That's a great that is how we
- 32:42drop the mic. He only went one time with him
- 32:45for three minutes and he already know.
- 32:47I said a Christian prayer, a Jewish prayer, a Catholic
- 32:49prayer. I did them all.
- 32:51Every insurance company has a bulletin board with a big face
- 32:55on it and they throw darts at it all the time.
- 32:57His face is on it. So I want to mention a big thank
- 32:59you and a shout out to our friend Laser, who literally
- 33:02brought you here. He didn't just recommend you
- 33:04here, he physically brought you here.
- 33:05He's the best. And so we really, I really
- 33:08appreciate that. And I know that on the way here,
- 33:10you stop by Yeshiva of Spring Valley and you know, I want to
- 33:13hear about that experience really quickly.
- 33:15But before I get into that, what happened here?
- 33:17What's going on I mean? Trump administration What is?
- 33:20Yeah, what? What?
- 33:21Tell us about that. So in the last go around we had
- 33:25some faith directors, but not in an official capacity.
- 33:31This time he decided to put the faith office in The West Wing
- 33:35and then put faith directors in every department.
- 33:37And it's been amazing. We've got an amazing Jewish
- 33:42director, Martin, who's just doing a phenomenal job.
- 33:47And the goal was under the Biden administration and under even
- 33:51Obama administration, a lot of religious organizations were
- 33:54being targeted by the IRS. They were being targeted by the
- 33:58administration. He wanted to make sure that
- 34:00every department had somebody in there working directly with the
- 34:03secretaries, making sure that religious organizations were not
- 34:06being discriminated. And that's for all faiths.
- 34:09And we actually have a a Commission who is outlining
- 34:13every religious discrimination done by the previous
- 34:16administration. I mean, it's massive.
- 34:18It's massive workers, federal workers to, you know, you know,
- 34:24many Jewish incidents that are public, some that aren't.
- 34:26I mean, it's unbelievable. So he was very bold in that.
- 34:30I've known the Trump's for a while.
- 34:31I was a liaison and the last go around I didn't take a position
- 34:34because I didn't want to. I was pastoring and everything
- 34:36else and doing the film company and, but I was there almost
- 34:40every week for 2 1/2 years, stayed busy this go around.
- 34:43I was working with Eric Trump and just talked to him about
- 34:46some faith stuff and we were trying to work on some things.
- 34:49And I, I said, I look, I don't want to be there.
- 34:52I just I want to help. I have a my son and
- 34:55daughter-in-law, granddaughter live 1520 minutes from us.
- 34:57You know, I don't want to be in DC.
- 34:58And now we have 2 granddaughters, but you know, I
- 35:00don't want to be in DC. But then election night they
- 35:03invited us there. We went.
- 35:04My wife said look, I know you said you want to go there, but
- 35:08if you feel God's leading you, I'm OK with it.
- 35:10And I was like, you were my excuse not to go, you know, And
- 35:14I said, OK, So I said yes, they sent me the plum book.
- 35:17That's the 4000 jobs a president has to fill.
- 35:20Actually, they sent me the old one.
- 35:21They said we have the new one in two weeks.
- 35:22So I get the plum book. They're like the president said,
- 35:24what do you want to do? Plum book?
- 35:26That's what they call it. And he said, what do you want to
- 35:27do? And so I'm looking through
- 35:30there. I see CIA.
- 35:31I'm like badging gun. That sounds fun, you know.
- 35:34So I talked to him. I'm like, now look, if it comes
- 35:37to secrets and torture, you don't want me to know anything
- 35:39because if they torture me, I'll give up everything, you know?
- 35:41And but I said, you know, I really want to do something in
- 35:44faith. If we're going to fix our
- 35:45nation, we've got to return to God.
- 35:47That's what's going to bring greatness.
- 35:49So we went through a lot of things.
- 35:50They talked about the Religious Liberty Commission, which we
- 35:52just did Monday. I was there, Lewis was there
- 35:56with us, you know, I, I, I'm praying about it.
- 35:58I'm like, you know, just want to do that.
- 36:00And they couple times Sergio who is over the transition team said
- 36:04what about this? And he had another guy who was
- 36:06helping me and they said, what about this?
- 36:07And I said, look, I'm not doing this for a career.
- 36:09I don't plan on being in DC after this administration.
- 36:12I just want to try to fix our nation.
- 36:14I want to do faith. And so they finally said, you
- 36:16know, what about this position and brought me on and I'm
- 36:19actually involved in about 3 different things.
- 36:21But you know, one of the things they knew is I love, I love
- 36:24speaking, I love travelling, I love doing media.
- 36:27And so they put me in this position to be able to do this.
- 36:30And it's been amazing. So, you know, going to the
- 36:33school today, going by there and, and on behalf of the
- 36:36president, letting them know that this president stands with
- 36:40the Jewish people. We are proud of, of, of this
- 36:44school and the fact that they're raising up sharp young people
- 36:51who are a benefit to society, people with a great education
- 36:55and just be able to share that with them.
- 36:57And it was, it was beautiful to be there.
- 36:58And, and, you know, from going and seeing kids who are in the
- 37:05main classrooms to kids who are in special learning classrooms
- 37:08that get more of a one-on-one to being in the gymnasium and
- 37:12getting to shoot A and make a three pointer.
- 37:14You know, I'll tell you what I heard about that.
- 37:15All of it was, it was fun. And, you know, I'm just, I am
- 37:21grateful that we have a president that understands that
- 37:24our America was found upon Christian Judeo values.
- 37:28And, you know, we have to return to those roots.
- 37:30And most people don't know this, but there was a pastor in
- 37:33Revolutionary War time who got up and he preached out of
- 37:37Ecclesiastes, says there's time to live, time to die because
- 37:39there's time for war. He said that time has come.
- 37:41He took off his black robe, grabbed his musket, walked out
- 37:44and his men followed him and they started fighting in the
- 37:46Revolutionary War. His brother, who was a
- 37:50clergyman, wrote him a letter. His name, this guy's name is
- 37:53Frederick Muhlenberg. And he wrote him a letter and he
- 37:55said, how dare you, being a man of the cloth, engage in this
- 37:58war. Well, six months later, his
- 38:00house was burnt down, his church was burnt down, his family
- 38:03almost got killed. And he realized being neutral
- 38:06didn't work. You, you either have to be
- 38:08involved or, or, or you know, you're involved in one side or
- 38:11the other. It's, it's kind of like
- 38:12Scripture says, no man can serve 2 masters.
- 38:14You're either going to serve God or you're going to serve the the
- 38:16devil. So this guy gets involved and he
- 38:19would become the first speaker of the House.
- 38:22So the first speaker of the House was a pastor, was a
- 38:24clergyman. And I wrote a book last year
- 38:27called Ignorance and Apathy, 2 of America's Deadliest Sins.
- 38:30One of my close friends from New York, he was a professor, helped
- 38:34me and we, we put this book together because, you know,
- 38:38there's a time where people need to wake up.
- 38:39Most people are either they're ignorant to what's going on or
- 38:42they're apathetic. And the Bible says that God's
- 38:45people, they, they perish for lack of knowledge.
- 38:48And Old Testament Scripture teaches they this.
- 38:51And it's important that we understand that, you know, just
- 38:57because we're ignorant isn't a proper excuse.
- 39:01You know, especially today. We, we, we can get any
- 39:03information we want, but most people just, they're apathetic
- 39:06and they just don't care. And so trying to wake up people.
- 39:09And our president understands that.
- 39:10So that's been his mission, his goal, and I'm proud to be a part
- 39:14of it. Well, I must mention a big thank
- 39:16you to President Trump and the Trump administration on behalf
- 39:19of all the Jewish people and all the listeners and all the faiths
- 39:22are appointing someone so proper in this position and having this
- 39:27position and some someone to represent the faiths, it's
- 39:30amazing and it's just a great pick, you know.
- 39:33Well, I appreciate it and and we're blessed.
- 39:35We have multiple people, you know, we have multiple people in
- 39:40the White House leading the faith in every department.
- 39:42I mean, it's just, it's incredible.
- 39:44And what what else is really neat is, is that the president
- 39:47has emboldened all of the secretaries, everybody.
- 39:51There is nobody walking around any of the departments that are
- 39:56afraid or ashamed to talk about faith.
- 39:59Doesn't matter if they're Jewish.
- 40:00Doesn't matter if they're Christian.
- 40:02Whatever they are, they're, they're willing to talk about
- 40:04it. Orthodox.
- 40:06I mean, they're, it's just different attitude.
- 40:08Even the president recently come out and, and did an executive
- 40:10order saying you're allowed to talk about your faith and you
- 40:13can convince people why yours is the right one, You know, but
- 40:15what he was saying was this, quit walking on egg shells.
- 40:19Faith is, I mean, I, I know this is for you guys.
- 40:22Your religion is very important to you.
- 40:24It's very important to me. Why do I have to put it on the
- 40:26shelf when I go to work? Why do I have to put it on the
- 40:29shelf when I'm involved in something like government that
- 40:32literally the that changes life for everybody.
- 40:36We ought to be able to bring that in there with those ideas.
- 40:38And so I'm grateful we can do that.
- 40:40Yeah, there's so much synergy not just between Christians and
- 40:43Jews, but so many other religions as well, that it's a
- 40:46universal thing. Life just seems better.
- 40:49It's it's more of a quality of life when you have those
- 40:52religious fundamentals. And I'm not talking about people
- 40:54that are devout and very pious and and we all have work to do
- 40:58and and we're all trying to be better today than we were
- 41:00yesterday, but to be totally, like you said, ignorant and
- 41:03apathetic. And just like it's by design,
- 41:05it's it's really inexcusable. And it's not like that
- 41:09translates into, you know, I'm going to have a better outcome
- 41:12and I'm going to be happier for it.
- 41:14The day that shows that in the at the end, you're not.
- 41:17And we all know the line. There's no such thing as an
- 41:19atheist in a foxhole. We all know that.
- 41:21Why? Why is that?
- 41:22Because when things are going wrong, you only have really one
- 41:25place to to look up that you know you need the help, right?
- 41:27So it's a it's a shame that sometimes has to get to that
- 41:30point to open your eyes and to realize, you know what, there's
- 41:34got to be more to life than just, you know, all the
- 41:36materialistic things and everything else that we're
- 41:39chasing after. And we realize that that's not
- 41:41going to make us fulfilled. We're still going to feel empty.
- 41:44It's, you know, and to I think that is where there's a lot of
- 41:47more awareness coming where I am seeing in different religions,
- 41:50people are combining the the their country with the religion
- 41:55and bringing those two things together.
- 41:57I think there's so much to both of those that makes you better
- 42:01for it. And I think Trump is doing a
- 42:02phenomenal job and that effect that he has you in this position
- 42:05and that he just elaborated on this department and he's putting
- 42:09a lot of stock in it and he's investing in this shows that he
- 42:13knows what he's doing. I mean, he doesn't need my
- 42:15confirmation. I mean, we we all see it.
- 42:17And he's been a staunch supporter of Israel.
- 42:19He really has been the best by far from any president in
- 42:23history. I mean, ask Trump, he'll tell
- 42:24you the best by far more than any president in history.
- 42:28But he's right. At the end of the day, actions
- 42:31is what matters and you can't deny that.
- 42:33And if you look at what he's done, not just what he's said,
- 42:35but what he's done, he's proving that over and over and over
- 42:37again. I think because you look at past
- 42:39politicians, they said a lot, but they didn't, do they?
- 42:41Didn't do much exactly. And he really he came.
- 42:43Through I, you know, I'm in Israel a lot and there is a
- 42:47great appreciation. And I mean, let's just be
- 42:50honest, majority of, of, of Jews, especially a lot of folks
- 42:56in Israel tend to lean more towards Democrat side.
- 43:00Trump came in and delivered and it's changed our perspective.
- 43:04And I would say honestly, probably, you know,
- 43:08unfortunately, I don't know why we, Lewis and I talked about
- 43:10this a little bit today, but historically people, especially
- 43:15in Israel, Bobby Bondo, would learn more towards the Democrat
- 43:19side. Even here, even in the States.
- 43:21However, and here however, I would say they've had more
- 43:24support from the Republican side.
- 43:25Sure, I mean. And certainly now.
- 43:27The left side has gotten a little bit more extreme over the
- 43:31years, right. They used the, the, the moderate
- 43:34Democratic Party was a, a, a force to be reckoned with, you
- 43:37know, and even on the right side, you know, I, I don't like
- 43:41extremists on either side, but it's become way too extreme on
- 43:44the left side. And you just can't be a part of
- 43:47that anymore. The the ideology that's coming
- 43:50out of that side, the extremists is just it's it's out of
- 43:54control, man. It's so out of control.
- 43:56It's crazy that you just you can't support it anymore and and
- 43:59there's no remnants left of it anyway.
- 44:01And especially what's going on in New York City now with with
- 44:03Mamdani, we're leveling up now again, that's just getting a
- 44:06little bit more. So you think yesterday was
- 44:08crazy. Let me show you what's going to
- 44:09happen tomorrow. It's a scare we.
- 44:12Get, we get one victory and then we, we have something else to
- 44:15face. And it's like right now, you
- 44:17know, Chicago, these other, they like DC could really get turned
- 44:22around. And most of the people want
- 44:23that. So I hope the people will, you
- 44:25know, through their voting will change things.
- 44:29I, I mean, I, you know, I have no proof of this is my own
- 44:33opinion, but who knows if they're getting an honest
- 44:35election there anyway, you know, but I think we're going to
- 44:38continue to see in places like that more and more people rise
- 44:41up and say we, we got to do something because they're not
- 44:45for the violence that's going on.
- 44:46By the way, he's put that paper up twice.
- 44:47I hope we haven't made him mad. Not at all.
- 44:51I was just gonna say. If you know Michael, Michael
- 44:53doesn't get mad by the way, It's one of my problems.
- 44:55I try to get a rise out of him sometimes and it just though
- 44:58he's the most patient person that I know.
- 45:00It's super annoying. You know, I'm full of emotions.
- 45:02Like I get really mad and I get, you know, a lot of highs, a lot
- 45:05of lows. He's just even keeled and even
- 45:08temperament the whole time. Little secret I worked on
- 45:10myself, but you know I. That was a zinger, by the way.
- 45:14I'll take it. There is a couple, you know,
- 45:16first of all, I just want to say we're so proud and happy to have
- 45:19you on our side on this mission of our life that we're going to
- 45:22be heading towards. And I didn't even finish with
- 45:26what I what I have to say about you, which is like, I'm dying to
- 45:28get to it because there's like a couple more things like what
- 45:30you're an author, an actor, it like, you know, faith director.
- 45:35It's just amazing. And I want to get to it, but
- 45:37we're talking about things and I'm just thinking to myself, you
- 45:40mentioned that, you know, you're you're going to serve this
- 45:41administration and you know, you hope to do a lot.
- 45:44What? What do you hope to be
- 45:45remembered by? Well, I mean, the most important
- 45:50thing is, you know, you know, good husband, good father, good
- 45:54grandfather. I think, you know, years ago I
- 45:59was, I did this sermon out of Psalms 78.
- 46:04You know, the, the nation of Israel was good at forgetting,
- 46:09you know, at times and, and the, the Bible says in it says, I
- 46:15believe it's in Judges too, but it says, you know, there arose
- 46:17another generation that knew not God or the works that he had
- 46:20done. They'd failed to teach the next
- 46:23generation the truths of God, the deliverance and all that.
- 46:26And you know, Israel had their it's like a roller coaster up
- 46:30and down. You know, one king followed God
- 46:32and observed God and the next king, you know, he sort of
- 46:35followed God, but, you know, allowed other Pagan worship to
- 46:39come in. And then this one was fully
- 46:40Pagan. And, you know, it was just this
- 46:41up and down. And I preached this message on
- 46:44the generation to come and talk about this.
- 46:47And my, my great grandfather, he was known, he lived during the
- 46:51days of depression. He was known as a guy who taught
- 46:53his family the importance of hard work, not just physically,
- 46:57but working hard for God, doing great things for God.
- 47:00My grandfather was known as a, a man who really taught the
- 47:03importance of prayer, taught people how to pray and why to
- 47:06pray. And, and that's what he's known
- 47:08for. My dad really still does
- 47:11preaches all over the country, but really did a lot on the
- 47:13family. And I'm the oldest of eight
- 47:15children. And you know, he just, he, he
- 47:19really did a lot teaching about that and the importance of, of
- 47:21putting God first in your family.
- 47:24And I always said, if I was known for anything, I just want
- 47:26to be known as the guy that did all he could to help reach the
- 47:28next generation. And I think in my position, I'm
- 47:31really trying to secure for the next generation of freedom that
- 47:36I knew when I was younger that we started seeing taken away
- 47:40over the last, you know, really 25 years, especially the last
- 47:435-10 years. I, I want them to be able to
- 47:46experience that. I want them to know just how
- 47:48great this nation is. I've, I've travelled now to
- 47:51probably closer to 4550 countries.
- 47:54And you know, I, I went to Russia in 92 right after the
- 47:59Iron Curtain fell. My dad had already been there
- 48:01once a year. I went back with him and I
- 48:02remember going into the schools and, and kids just walking up
- 48:06and touching me. And I was 12, almost 13 at the
- 48:08time. And they would touch me just
- 48:09like, because I was from America.
- 48:11And I remember we gave out Bibles and we would give them
- 48:14out at midnight from our, from our H1 day.
- 48:18We were giving out Bibles. We give a Bible to the lady that
- 48:20was 93 years of age. And she said, I saw the Bible
- 48:24for the first time when I was 7. And she said I've been praying
- 48:27every day since I was 7 that I could have my own Bible because
- 48:30in Russia you couldn't. You couldn't have your own
- 48:32Bible. It wasn't allowed.
- 48:33The communists weren't allowed. They determine what you believed
- 48:36religion. And she this, she was telling us
- 48:38through an interpreter and she grabbed that Bible and she
- 48:41kissed it in a broken English. She said these words.
- 48:43She said God Bless America. And I.
- 48:45Remember as a kid, the impact that made like, like, we're so
- 48:48blessed to live in this country. We don't appreciate it.
- 48:50And the Bible says, to whom much is given, much is required.
- 48:53We have a responsibility now. I, I like President Trump, I
- 48:57believe we ought to be, I believe we ought to be careful
- 49:01of what we spend our money on. I, I think we ought to be
- 49:03physically conservative, all those things.
- 49:05But but we are blessed as a nation to be able to help guide
- 49:09other nations. And we have done that for years.
- 49:12Unfortunately, we started getting to the point where it
- 49:14was more like AI scratch your back, you scratch my next thing
- 49:17you know, America's paying for everything.
- 49:19I don't think we should do that, but I do think that we are that
- 49:22voice of reason when a country is slaughtering people that, you
- 49:29know, they don't like maybe a minority group or whatever.
- 49:31We're that. We're that country that goes,
- 49:33hey, no, no, no, you don't do that.
- 49:35That's why we have a new ambassador going in.
- 49:37He's an ambassador at large. His name is Mark Walker.
- 49:40He's working through getting his confirmation.
- 49:42Good friend. He was a former senator or
- 49:44congressman. He is working on religious
- 49:48liberty around the world. That's what he does.
- 49:51Because there are minority religious groups all over there
- 49:54being literally persecuted out. And I don't mean like they're
- 49:58making them leave the country. I mean, they're they're killing
- 50:00them. It's happening right now.
- 50:02In real ethnic cleansing. In, in in the Middle East.
- 50:05It's happening right now. And so, you know, I just want to
- 50:09be a person that got involved in that fight.
- 50:13At the end of the day, honestly, I, I don't care if anybody knows
- 50:16my name. I, I want them to know the
- 50:18person that's changed my life. And that's, that's my Lord and
- 50:21savior. And that's the most important
- 50:23thing. My faith is, is real.
- 50:25And, you know, in 2019, I had a heart attack and I sat on the
- 50:30corner of my bed at 11:00 at night and I thought I was, I
- 50:32thought I was dying. I mean, I literally did, I had
- 50:34to wake up my wife and, and she called 911 and she's on the
- 50:38phone and I remember staring at the corner.
- 50:40I mean, I'm sitting on the edge of the bed looking at the corner
- 50:42of my room and I'm like, God, I thought I was going to be here
- 50:44longer and I had a lot of plans. I said, but just take care of my
- 50:47wife and kids. And I remember thinking the I'm
- 50:49just glad I have no regrets. I have no regrets.
- 50:53There's nobody that I'm mad at. There's nobody that I owe an
- 50:57apology to. I, I've, I've done the best I
- 51:00can in my life, not I'm perfect. I'm sure I've hurt people on the
- 51:03way. I didn't mean to, but I, I just
- 51:05in that moment I was like, I'm glad I have no regrets.
- 51:07Then my wife was on hold for just a second and I told her, I
- 51:09said tell the kids I love them. I love you.
- 51:11If I don't make it, I love you. And I thought that was it.
- 51:13Well, you know, they get me on the ambulance, they, they keep
- 51:16me alive. 7:30 the next morning they said I didn't have a heart
- 51:20attack. They sent me home.
- 51:21I went home to church, preached a couple services. 2 days later
- 51:25we went on vacation to New England and I ended up going to
- 51:30see a doctor. Found out not only did I have a
- 51:31heart attack, I had a 98% blockage in my Widowmaker and
- 51:34thankfully while I was in New England I didn't die because I
- 51:37ate nothing but fried clamps while I was there.
- 51:39And anyhow, fried food y'all wouldn't know about it and but
- 51:43anyway, that's a. Crazy story.
- 51:45So you just like end it off over there through that air.
- 51:48So that's wild. But I had a little PTSD, a
- 51:51little bit. But you know, in that moment, it
- 51:53gave me a different perspective of life.
- 51:55And I don't live, I don't live life now thinking, you know,
- 51:59when I'm 7080 and I think about, I literally don't know how long
- 52:03I'm going to be here because after that I went through the
- 52:05cancer three times. I don't know how long I'll be
- 52:06here. But I know this every day I'm
- 52:08going to try to make it count. You know, every day I'm going to
- 52:12try to make a difference. And again, it's not about I have
- 52:15no agenda. I had somebody the other day
- 52:17that was mad at me and they were telling me, you know, I don't
- 52:20know what your agenda is, what you're trying to get.
- 52:21I'm like, I have no agenda. Like I literally if God let me
- 52:25just go live in the country, hunt and fish and be with my
- 52:27family, I would do that. But that's not what he put me
- 52:30here for, you know he. What was he mad at you for?
- 52:32Yeah, who knows? He put me here for a purpose.
- 52:34Well, I had, I've had people come up and go.
- 52:36I think the enemy's really trying to get you.
- 52:37And I was like, maybe, but I think God maybe has allowed me
- 52:40to go through this because, you know, it's like in the New
- 52:44Testament, there was somebody who was, you know, sick and, and
- 52:47they all asked when Jesus healed him.
- 52:49They all asked, you know, was he was this because of his parents
- 52:52sin or his sin? And they, and he said no.
- 52:54So God could get glory out of him being healed.
- 52:58Sometimes God allows us to go through things so that one, he
- 53:01can get glory because I'm rejoicing even in what I'm going
- 53:05through because God's good no matter what.
- 53:07But two, it's caused me to be able to help a lot of people who
- 53:11have went through things in their life who freak out.
- 53:14You know, I, I get to tell people all the time.
- 53:17You know, I've never wept over the fact I have cancer and I'm
- 53:20not, you know, people do that's OK.
- 53:22I mean, I had stage 4 cancer, you know, my right kidney all
- 53:26around it. They had to remove it wasn't
- 53:28looking good. I never wept over it.
- 53:30I said, but you know, I, I could get in my truck while I have
- 53:33cancer and I could be in a wreck.
- 53:34I definitely, if I'm with Lewis, I could be in a wreck and die,
- 53:38but I don't every time I get in the vehicle, I don't start
- 53:39crying because I could die. And I think it's a perspective,
- 53:43you know, yeah, I have cancer. I could die, but but who knows?
- 53:46That's in the hands of God. All I got to do is just trust
- 53:49him with every day he gives me and, and do the best I can with
- 53:53that. And so I think that's important.
- 53:55And you know, I'm, I'm honored to be in this position, but
- 53:58going into it, I told him all my advisors said don't say this,
- 54:01but I'm like, if, if I can be a help, I'm glad to be a help.
- 54:04But if not, I won't be offended if if you say no, we can't use
- 54:07you 'cause it's really there is no I.
- 54:10I have no agenda at this point in my life.
- 54:12Speaking of help, I got to read this next sentence 'cause you,
- 54:15you dropped it here earlier and I'm, I'm looking at it and I'm
- 54:18like, you're fighting human trafficking and addiction and
- 54:22you're the only guy who treats evil like A to do list.
- 54:25That's what Chachi Bativa sums it up.
- 54:27Fighting human trafficking. I mean, you, you, you mentioned
- 54:30it earlier and you're talking about helping people and your
- 54:33mission. Tell me a story of how did you
- 54:36get into that? What is that like?
- 54:37What have you seen? What, what's that world like?
- 54:39You know, we, we travel through the airports a lot and you
- 54:41always see signs. I, I've seen them all over by
- 54:44the bathrooms, even in fact, I was in a hotel in New York City,
- 54:47a really nice hotel in, in like midtown.
- 54:51We're talking about $1000 a night hotel.
- 54:53And near the bathroom it, there's a sign that says, if you
- 54:56are experiencing human trafficking, please go.
- 54:58And I'm like, what is that? Is that really happening around
- 55:01us? I got to hear about this.
- 55:03This is this. That was really one of the
- 55:05things I really. Don't know.
- 55:06But in America it's, it's a huge issue.
- 55:11Unfortunately, a lot of our, a lot of wealthy businessmen, a
- 55:17lot of political leaders have been involved in it.
- 55:20That's why. And this has been a problem,
- 55:22hotels, it's been a problem and This is why it hasn't been
- 55:27ended. And most people are are
- 55:30oblivious to what's going on. I started with an organization.
- 55:33There was an organization called MASA Mothers Against Sexual
- 55:35Abuse, which was the very first one.
- 55:37They changed the name for a little while I was the president
- 55:40of that really helping them transition out and and they were
- 55:44merging with another organization.
- 55:46And then I started serving on the board of an organization
- 55:48called SWAT Sports World against trafficking Guys like Albert
- 55:51Pool host was on there, Ray Lewis, a lot of professional
- 55:54athletes, Kevin, Ernie Johnson, the TNT Love Ernie.
- 56:00I was probably the one of the few that was not a pro athlete.
- 56:05I have no idea how I got on there, but my buddy Doctor
- 56:07Matthew Dunaway that ran that and we were looking at one of
- 56:10the biggest places that trafficking happens is at the
- 56:12Super Bowl. There is more sex selling going
- 56:17on there than probably anything else in America.
- 56:19At the Super. Bowl at the Super Bowl it's huge
- 56:23and so they were having a sporting events and then I
- 56:25started serving on an organization called St.
- 56:27Grace, which created technology and then right now the
- 56:31Department of Interior is working with Tim Tebow's
- 56:35foundation. They have a a new technology
- 56:37that's helping find missing children because it's a huge
- 56:40problem in the tribal nations with the Indians.
- 56:42And so we actually have just recently started using this at
- 56:47at different places in the tribes and we're finding these
- 56:50kids and it but it's a very huge problem.
- 56:53And I'll give you an example in Tennessee where I live
- 56:55conservative, very much Bible Belt faith, you know is a huge
- 57:01thing. One of the largest human
- 57:04traffickers of all the Southeast lives there not all the time
- 57:08he's extremely wealthy They couldn't touch him because there
- 57:11was so little evidence to pinpoint him to put him in jail
- 57:16for the rest of his life because they build these barriers.
- 57:19But they knew, and I know this because I know the people that
- 57:22were investigating him. I, I, you know, it's amazing in
- 57:26technology, you know, I know people that can find about
- 57:28anything on the dark web. And I've, I've requested before,
- 57:31I want to know about somebody and they'll tell me everything.
- 57:33And I found out, no, they're gay, but they're not, they're
- 57:36not doing anything with children.
- 57:37I mean, this is the kind of stuff they can find out about
- 57:39people. So, you know, for all the
- 57:42listeners, you know, it's just better to leave, live a clean
- 57:44life 'cause you know, if you don't want anybody to know,
- 57:46they'll find out. But I got asked to go on a, what
- 57:50they call a dive. That's a rescue and go get some
- 57:54children out. And I really prayed about it.
- 57:56These guys are all former special forces.
- 57:59They said go with us. And sometimes they go to a
- 58:01country they have to get arrested in order to get out.
- 58:05That's the way they're able to get out through the process.
- 58:08And I told my buddy, I said, look, I, I, there's a part of me
- 58:13that says, yes, I want to go because I want to, I want to
- 58:16help rescue. I'm a hunter.
- 58:19I'm, you know, I'm, I've got guns, all that, you know, I, I
- 58:23didn't get to serve in the military, but I'm very
- 58:26patriotic. And there's a part of me my
- 58:28oldest son served. I'm like my grandfather served.
- 58:30I'm like, I want to say yes, you know, let me do this.
- 58:33This is a way I could serve. But I said I'm just old enough
- 58:37and clumsy enough now I'd end up shooting one of you or myself.
- 58:40I was like, let me do this. Let me pray for you.
- 58:43But I have been involved in a few things here stateside and
- 58:48with my own eyes. I've seen what's happened.
- 58:51I had somebody on my podcast who is in his late 50s.
- 58:57His dad was an All American football player's mom was a
- 59:00cheerleader. They had 12 children.
- 59:03They sold all 12 of them into sex slavery as kids.
- 59:09All 12 of them. They still have a brother that's
- 59:11been missing since the 90s. That's the only one they don't
- 59:15know now all 12 of them didn't even know about each other
- 59:19'cause their parents would have a couple, they would sell them,
- 59:24have more kids and it wasn't until somehow they all ended up
- 59:27finding out all 12 of them had the same parents that's.
- 59:31How is this possible? This is what I was saying as I
- 59:34was listening to. I'm blown away.
- 59:35It's on Real Talk with Pastor Ben Graham.
- 59:38You can listen to the episode. This is a real real story, real
- 59:42story, and you have to imagine there are other stories like
- 59:44this. We actually have the script to
- 59:45make this a a movie. It's a it's a tough movie to
- 59:49make, but it people need to know.
- 59:51I'm reading over here in 2024 the hotline got 32,000 signals,
- 59:55calls, texts online, reports about trafficking.
- 59:58I mean, that's mind blowing. Well, and, and, and the reality
- 1:00:02is, is for everyone they got, you know, you see those, but if
- 1:00:06somebody's being trafficked, it's very rare that they have
- 1:00:08access to a phone to be able to. That's what I was thinking.
- 1:00:10Like you were mentioning that there's a sign if you're being
- 1:00:12trafficked close. If I'm being trafficked right
- 1:00:14now, I'm probably under duress and probably under a tight
- 1:00:17leash. They don't give them the
- 1:00:19opportunity. If you're not, anyone's
- 1:00:20trafficking. I'm just saying is I'm not being
- 1:00:23trafficked. You're too old.
- 1:00:24They believe there's actually like a universal sign like, so
- 1:00:28like I think they, they have, they do have the help.
- 1:00:31They do have the help signs. That's true.
- 1:00:32And they've actually rescued some people.
- 1:00:34There's a recent video of a gal at a gas station who gives the
- 1:00:38sign out and somebody calls it in.
- 1:00:42Then there was another lady of the gas station.
- 1:00:43There was some police there. She opened up the door and ran
- 1:00:46out real quick and the guy chased after, but the police
- 1:00:49grabbed him and arrested him before it happened.
- 1:00:51But but again, I mean, you can't ask.
- 1:00:53Can I borrow the phone there? Yeah, it's crazy.
- 1:00:55And when you hear, when you hear, I mean, look, you know,
- 1:00:58remember in Ohio a couple years ago, the, the, the people that
- 1:01:00were locked in a basement for years, There's been other
- 1:01:04stories of that. And who knows how many more of
- 1:01:07that's going on. Like I have some friends who are
- 1:01:10very involved in this. They scare me with the numbers.
- 1:01:12I hope that they're exaggerating because some of the stuff they
- 1:01:15thought it's so high, but they're living it every day.
- 1:01:18And and I'm and once you get in this world, it's very difficult.
- 1:01:23And this is where I come in. I get to counsel with a lot of
- 1:01:25these people because it's such a police officers struggle with
- 1:01:28what they see. These guys, it's a whole nother
- 1:01:30level, you know, these officers that have to go in and look at
- 1:01:34the evidence of people that are involved with child pornography
- 1:01:38and involved in these. I mean it's.
- 1:01:40Terrible pastor. Can you tell me from the
- 1:01:44perspective of, of a pastor and from, from your religion, from
- 1:01:48the Christianity religion? There's a lot of evil in this
- 1:01:51world. There's a lot of darkness all
- 1:01:54over the place, people doing insane things.
- 1:01:57I mean, I'm, you know, we're somewhat normal.
- 1:01:59So we're very naive even to a lot of the crazy stuff going on.
- 1:02:02From your perspective, how would you explain this if I'm a non
- 1:02:05believer, if I'm someone who's saying that this whole thing
- 1:02:08with God can't be real because look what's going on.
- 1:02:10How is he allowing this? How is he OK with this?
- 1:02:13If he's the almighty and the all powerful prevent these type of
- 1:02:16things from happening? Why are you just watching and
- 1:02:19and not right That's. Isn't, isn't it amazing that we
- 1:02:23love to be able to say, I'm own person, I can do whatever I
- 1:02:25want, free will. But then we're mad because God
- 1:02:28lets us do whatever we want. And it started when Adam and Eve
- 1:02:33sinned. Sin entered into this world and
- 1:02:36every person who's been born since then has been born into
- 1:02:39sin. There's immorality.
- 1:02:41This is why, you know, people say this about the school
- 1:02:44shootings. And why would God allow this to
- 1:02:47happen? Well, we asked God to leave our
- 1:02:48schools years ago. We kicked them out.
- 1:02:50No prayer, no scripture, No 10 commandments.
- 1:02:53We kicked them out. So why would God be somewhere
- 1:02:56where he's not invited? He's a gentleman, you know, and
- 1:02:59God gave us the right to choose. We have free will and
- 1:03:03unfortunately when man is raised without guidelines, without
- 1:03:08morality, I mean, there's been tests.
- 1:03:11That's been proven. They did a simple test.
- 1:03:13They did 30 at a time, did this three times.
- 1:03:16They did a test, random test, had the answers on the back so
- 1:03:21people could cheat, OK. Had cameras in the room.
- 1:03:24They did this out of the room, 78% cheated because the answers
- 1:03:30were there. OK, The third group, the second
- 1:03:33and third group, they did the exact same thing.
- 1:03:36I'm sorry. They did it four times because
- 1:03:37they did it twice with just like that.
- 1:03:39The third and fourth group, they hung the 10 commandments up,
- 1:03:42didn't say anything about it, but they're just in front of the
- 1:03:44room. They did the same thing, less
- 1:03:47than 30% cheated. And they said somehow
- 1:03:51subconsciously, even the commandments being there change
- 1:03:54the perspective of the people in the room.
- 1:03:56And So what it tells us is morality changes the way we do
- 1:04:01things. And we live in a society now
- 1:04:03where people say there is no God.
- 1:04:05So if there is no God and there's nobody that sets a
- 1:04:08standard, we can do whatever we want.
- 1:04:09Why wouldn't all these things be happening?
- 1:04:12You and I don't understand it because we're, we're a, a moral
- 1:04:16base people. We believe in God.
- 1:04:17We fear God in the sense not like, oh, I'm afraid God's going
- 1:04:21to shrive me dead. But like God, I reverence you.
- 1:04:23I, I, I want to please you. I would never do something like
- 1:04:26this. This is so unholy, but you know,
- 1:04:30the enemy is very real and he works in people's lives.
- 1:04:33And so I, I think that's the answer.
- 1:04:35And we blame God for a lot of things, you know, you know, but
- 1:04:41this, it's amazing. I wish we had more time.
- 1:04:42There's so many things I could say, especially about with God
- 1:04:44and Israel. You know, I don't know if you've
- 1:04:46ever seen the book where somebody showed every time
- 1:04:49America turns their back on God from a political leader, we have
- 1:04:52a natural disaster. It's.
- 1:04:54Happened. You can read the book every time
- 1:04:56they've documented it. It's amazing when when President
- 1:05:03President Bush, the older President Bush spoke against
- 1:05:06Israel, that's when the Hurricanes swept and hit their
- 1:05:09vacation home in Kennebunkport and it's just amazing.
- 1:05:13I always think of the words, you know, God is not mocked and
- 1:05:17whatsoever man shows that will he read the Bible says, you
- 1:05:20know, so you can find that. I really believe God said we're
- 1:05:25to stand with the nation of Israel.
- 1:05:27Doesn't mean we follow them blindly.
- 1:05:29If leaders say stupid things that don't line up with God, we
- 1:05:33have to call them out and say, you know, this isn't right.
- 1:05:36You know, not every leader that's come out of Israel has
- 1:05:38has LED with, you know, let me please God.
- 1:05:42We've had secular leaders and all that, but I still think we,
- 1:05:45there's a way we stand with, you know, with the nation of Israel
- 1:05:48without saying, Hey, do whatever you want, you know, within
- 1:05:51reason and, you know, because at the end of the day, it's all
- 1:05:54about morality. Yeah, and morality it's not.
- 1:05:57By the way, Pastor, I love everything that you're saying
- 1:05:59and I appreciate that answer. That's very thought me.
- 1:06:01Too, by the way. As soon as you said it, I'm
- 1:06:03like, wait a second, he's right because you can't have it both
- 1:06:05ways. You want to have free will or
- 1:06:07you want God to just do make the whole setup for you.
- 1:06:10So it makes a lot of sense what you're what you're saying.
- 1:06:13I have another question about the the the difference between
- 1:06:17Judaism and Christianity. And this part I do know because
- 1:06:20I've seen it a ton in movies. I've seen it all over.
- 1:06:23So I. Hollywood, I know it never lies
- 1:06:25and. I've always wondered how this
- 1:06:27works. I've I'm sure a lot of listeners
- 1:06:28right now are probably gonna like jump on his bandwagon.
- 1:06:30I would love to hear this, this answer, but have you ever heard
- 1:06:33of Jewish guilt? You ever heard of that?
- 1:06:36It's a real thing. Jewish guilt is if we do like a
- 1:06:38sin, good Lord, it sits with us for a long time and it's not
- 1:06:43worth it for the guilt afterwards.
- 1:06:45So that also prevents us from doing a lot of different things
- 1:06:48because we also believe that it's going to be a day of
- 1:06:50reckoning. There's going to come a time
- 1:06:52when you're going to have to answer for all your sins.
- 1:06:55And there's a, a concept of repentance, of course, and, and,
- 1:06:58and today's a new day and you could do better.
- 1:07:00You should do better. The new year, the rest of start
- 1:07:03of which, you know, you could start over and all that, but at
- 1:07:06the end of the day, you know, it's in your mind always that,
- 1:07:09oh God, I had the, the day's going to come and it's just, and
- 1:07:11you feel guilt like I did something wrong.
- 1:07:13And I that's how it works. You know, for the most part what
- 1:07:16I understand in Christianity, you go through the father, you
- 1:07:21go to a priest, you sit with him in the confession room and you
- 1:07:24tell him all your sins of the day or the week of the month,
- 1:07:27whatever it is. And he tells you whatever he
- 1:07:29says, you know, blessed be you, it's all good, you're forgiven.
- 1:07:32Go drink some holy water. And they walk out of there like
- 1:07:36that's they're, they're clean, they're cleansed.
- 1:07:39And a part of me envies that because there was, it's a much
- 1:07:41happier way to live and you could probably be better off for
- 1:07:44it. But like what?
- 1:07:45Where does that come? From so First off, we differ
- 1:07:48from Catholic because we believe Jesus is the Messiah.
- 1:07:52So, you know, after he died and was buried, rose again, he says,
- 1:07:56to the throne of God. The Bible says in the New
- 1:07:58Testament we now have an advocate with the Father, so we
- 1:08:01can go directly to him. I don't have to go to a priest.
- 1:08:03I don't have to go confess my sins.
- 1:08:04Anybody confess to him? When we make him Lord and Savior
- 1:08:08of our life, He forgives us. The Bible says we confess our
- 1:08:12sin, He's faithful and justice. Forgive us for our sins, cleanse
- 1:08:14us from all unrighteousness, so he forgives us.
- 1:08:17So then people go, well, you believe you're saved so you can
- 1:08:19just do whatever you want. Like a free pass.
- 1:08:22The Bible says this. You're not your own.
- 1:08:24You've been bought with a price. When I give my life to Christ,
- 1:08:27I'm not my own anymore. I now belong to him.
- 1:08:29I belong to God, so therefore I don't just live my life however
- 1:08:32I please. Does God still give me a free
- 1:08:34will? Yes.
- 1:08:35Could I still go do certain things?
- 1:08:36Yes, I could, but I don't because my desire is now to
- 1:08:40please him. So there is that.
- 1:08:42And we know what sin is. I mean, preachers preach on sin.
- 1:08:47The you know, you don't do these things.
- 1:08:49You, you don't commit adultery. You don't whatever it might be,
- 1:08:51these are the things you don't do.
- 1:08:52We, we know what it is. We, you know, I think God puts
- 1:08:55inside of all of us a sense of right and wrong.
- 1:08:59There's just certain things that we've been able to justify.
- 1:09:01Well, you know, I'm not as bad as this person.
- 1:09:03So, you know, it's, you know, I mean, I haven't murdered
- 1:09:06anybody. But, you know, if you understand
- 1:09:08all the New Testament, Jesus goes on to say, if you hate your
- 1:09:11brother, you're guilty of murder.
- 1:09:12If you think about, if you think, look on a woman with
- 1:09:15lush, you're guilty of adultery. So he took it even further than
- 1:09:18what the law says. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
- 1:09:22And you know, all these things. So so you know, there is the
- 1:09:26same sense that we can live in that, but we're able to go and
- 1:09:30this is what we teach. When you recognize I've sinned
- 1:09:33against God, I go to him in prayer and say, you know,
- 1:09:36Father, forgive me, I'm sorry. And this is what first John one
- 1:09:39night says, if we confess our sins, he's faithful.
- 1:09:42He's just forgives our sins, cleanse us from all
- 1:09:44righteousness and we get that forgiveness.
- 1:09:47And it's just like when I wrong my wife, I go to her and I say,
- 1:09:51you know what? You know, maybe I said something
- 1:09:54I shouldn't. Whatever it might be, I'm sorry
- 1:09:56and I love you. And she says it's OK, I forgive
- 1:09:58you, I love you, it's over. Yeah, you're a smart man and.
- 1:10:01The Bible says you do it right, that when God Forgives, he
- 1:10:04forgives our sins and it and he remembers them no more.
- 1:10:07It's forgotten as far as the East is from the West.
- 1:10:10There's one thing that God cannot do, OK, and God can do
- 1:10:15anything, but God cannot. This is what Scripture says.
- 1:10:18He, he cannot bring up something that he's forgiven.
- 1:10:22Now we are able to do that because we forgive.
- 1:10:24You know, sometimes we're like, we forgive, but we don't forget,
- 1:10:27but God does because, and that's what's amazing about God.
- 1:10:30He's so holy. He's so just, he's able to do
- 1:10:33that forgive us. So that's how we believe, but
- 1:10:35it's not an open path to sin. There's certainly times we feel
- 1:10:38guilty. And that's why typically in our
- 1:10:41services, it's changed a little bit in the contemporary
- 1:10:43services, but typically in our service, we have an altar time
- 1:10:45where people can come and they can spend time in prayer,
- 1:10:47praying, You know, in the Catholic Church, they go to the
- 1:10:50priests and they ask for forgiveness, like you said.
- 1:10:52But but yeah, we don't have to live all that time and guilt.
- 1:10:58Yeah, it's a hard way to live, by the way.
- 1:11:00You know, it's it's not conducive.
- 1:11:01One more question, Michael, and then I'm going to pass it back
- 1:11:03to you. I promise.
- 1:11:04My my my last question for you, Pastor.
- 1:11:08What is one thing that stands out about the Jewish people that
- 1:11:14not just Christians, but anybody else, any other religion,
- 1:11:16whether you're not even religious, can learn from, that
- 1:11:19you would look at and you respect and say, wow, that's
- 1:11:21something very unique to the Jewish people and that's
- 1:11:24something that we can admire, we can emulate, and we should
- 1:11:27incorporate in our side as well. And vice versa.
- 1:11:31What would be something that you think from the Christian
- 1:11:34religion that you excel at and that the community does very,
- 1:11:37very well? That is something that others
- 1:11:39should. I mean, like, if you're taking
- 1:11:40one thing away, this is the part that you should take away from
- 1:11:43the Jewish people and then from the Christian people.
- 1:11:46Yeah, So I mean, I think, you know, two things with with the
- 1:11:50Jewish people. I mean, there's many things, but
- 1:11:52I'll say too, you know, I think business, most Jewish people I
- 1:11:59know are brilliant in business education.
- 1:12:02Yeah, they do a great job in that.
- 1:12:04I I think Shabbat, you know, for whatever reason and you know,
- 1:12:09the Bible says Amanda and working on eat.
- 1:12:11We've taken it to extreme like we are proud that we work seven
- 1:12:14days a week and we, you know, are busy, busy, busy, busy.
- 1:12:18And I think this is something that the Jewish people
- 1:12:23understand. God taught us from the
- 1:12:25beginning. He created heaven and earth 6
- 1:12:27days and 7th day he rested. Rest is important.
- 1:12:30Shabbat is important that time. I love it when I did my first
- 1:12:34Shabbat in in Israel and watched as, you know, the father saying
- 1:12:39or the husband saying to his wife and just watched the whole
- 1:12:42ceremony of it and the dinner and just the sense of
- 1:12:46unplugging. And I think more people are
- 1:12:48catching on to that and seeing that even in the Christian
- 1:12:50faith, more people are going, you know, Shabbat is so
- 1:12:53important. I think one thing that that and
- 1:12:57Christians is such a huge, such a huge statement of people, but
- 1:13:01the ones I come from, we're good at really trying to help and
- 1:13:05work with the Jewish people. And I can tell you many things
- 1:13:07we're doing in Israel and I think they're Jewish people that
- 1:13:10starting to do this. But I think for them to let down
- 1:13:14their guard a little bit and say, how can I work with
- 1:13:16Christians and help and encourage because they have a
- 1:13:21lot of wisdom, especially in business and other things.
- 1:13:24You know, there's so much wisdom in, you know, and I think we're
- 1:13:29continuing to see that grow in our relationships and working
- 1:13:32together in business health. You know, we all went for years,
- 1:13:37we've military, we've, we've done a lot together, but I think
- 1:13:40that's important. And you know, at the end of the
- 1:13:45day, we are blessed, you know, beyond what I think we realized,
- 1:13:53we are so blessed to live in this great country.
- 1:13:57And God is just, he's, he's given us this opportunity.
- 1:14:00And I, I just say, whether you're Jewish or Christian,
- 1:14:02don't waste the day, you know, quit, quit living in despair,
- 1:14:06depression, quit living in discouragement, you know, get up
- 1:14:10and do something with your life. And I found that people don't
- 1:14:12get depressed if they're, if they're busy doing what they've
- 1:14:15been called to do. So, you know, if you're
- 1:14:17miserable in what you're doing, maybe you're supposed to be
- 1:14:19doing something different, but find that passion.
- 1:14:22And at the end of the day, what really helps, no matter what
- 1:14:24you're doing, if you're helping people, if you care about
- 1:14:27others, that I think that changes everybody's perspective.
- 1:14:30And so that'd be my. Wow, wow.
- 1:14:33I I don't think there's anything more to say after that.
- 1:14:35Yeah, to be honest with that, I mean, that's a beautiful way to
- 1:14:38wrap up. Pastor, have you preached
- 1:14:39before, perhaps? By the way, have you done this
- 1:14:42once or twice? I'm just curious.
- 1:14:43Time or two, I know somebody asked me yesterday when I was
- 1:14:46going to speak, They're like, do you?
- 1:14:48It was a he's a Jewish man, Ellie Ishkoff, who was he was
- 1:14:53the president of the World Diamond Council for years and
- 1:14:56he's in his 80s lives in New York City and he we rode
- 1:14:59together and and he heard me speak.
- 1:15:00He's like, do you, what do you do?
- 1:15:01Prepare, what do you do? And I was like, I, I have no
- 1:15:03idea. I want to speak tonight, You
- 1:15:04know, I'll see the room, the crowd, what we're doing.
- 1:15:07I'll, I'll, I'll do that. But honestly, you know, and
- 1:15:11that's even going to here. I had no idea what we're going
- 1:15:13to talk about, But I, I just really think, you know, I've
- 1:15:17lived a few lessons. I've learned a few lessons in my
- 1:15:19life. I've lived a little bit.
- 1:15:21I'm still young, but I've lived a little bit to know the older I
- 1:15:25get, the less I know and the more I have to rely on God for
- 1:15:29his help. And, and, and you know, his word
- 1:15:32is what really guides me. I, I read scripture every day.
- 1:15:36I'm, I'm very adamant about that.
- 1:15:38You know, and, and in the New Testament says seek first the
- 1:15:41Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these
- 1:15:43things will be added to you. And then he goes on about how
- 1:15:46he'll feed you, he'll clothe you and all those things.
- 1:15:49And I would say most people in life are pursuing how they get
- 1:15:52all those things. And then God is an afterthought.
- 1:15:55And I used to tell our church we meet on Sundays.
- 1:15:58Sunday morning was the pep rally.
- 1:15:59The real game was when you left. Most people think I went to
- 1:16:03church, OK, I did my business with God.
- 1:16:05Now the rest of it's my life. But it's the opposite.
- 1:16:08You know, Sunday's at pep rally to be with other people that
- 1:16:10believe like you. You encourage one another.
- 1:16:12Then you go out in the week and that's when you actually live
- 1:16:14for God. And I would say, you know,
- 1:16:16Shabbat is this time. Everybody comes together and in
- 1:16:20the times of celebration that's coming up, that's great.
- 1:16:24But but the real challenge is when you leave there every day
- 1:16:28just living your faith and and seeking God first.
- 1:16:33Putting sound like my rabbi. You're literally saying the same
- 1:16:36thing that my rabbi's been telling me.
- 1:16:37Talked before when you were in synagogue, when you were there
- 1:16:40like you, you're you're playing the part.
- 1:16:41But what are you doing when you're leaving?
- 1:16:43We we talked and he told me when I was here today to let you know
- 1:16:45that. You're ganging up on me.
- 1:16:47I have the rabbi yelling at me and the pastor.
- 1:16:49Yeah, Michael, everybody's upset with me.
- 1:16:52That's crazy. This has been a lot of fun.
- 1:16:54I mean, besides that, it's it's so eye opening to us to learn
- 1:16:58about your position and who you are and your story and just just
- 1:17:02mumbling words like, oh, you know, yeah, I survived cancer
- 1:17:06and I wrote a book and I'm an actor.
- 1:17:08And we caught we caught all of it.
- 1:17:10And honestly, I mean, I can go on for hours also.
- 1:17:13And I, I really want to continue this conversation just more
- 1:17:15personally than you know, just like, you know, just on this.
- 1:17:18And I invite you to our Shabbat table anytime you're up here in
- 1:17:22Rockland County. You know, Charlie Kirk said the
- 1:17:24same thing. They asked him what are some
- 1:17:26things you could learn from the Jews.
- 1:17:27Somebody asked him that question, and this is what he
- 1:17:29answered also. Yeah.
- 1:17:30He said the Shabbat. He said he turned off his phone.
- 1:17:32He said he from Friday night to Saturday night, he turned his
- 1:17:35phone off course. Later on in his life, he started
- 1:17:37turning his phone off. And that's just one variable of
- 1:17:40what we do on the. Shabbat was a big influence on
- 1:17:42that. She grew up in New York City.
- 1:17:43Oh, so she was familiar. With she was a big influence on
- 1:17:46that and she talked about it changed his life.
- 1:17:50And I mean, all of this. I mean, if we're, we live busy
- 1:17:52lives and I'm, I'm involved in ministry, business, everything
- 1:17:55else, you need that time just to unwind.
- 1:17:58It's a gift. It's a really a gift.
- 1:17:59We have a couple of things that we like to do before we wrap up.
- 1:18:02So first of all, do you have any questions for us?
- 1:18:04It's an opportunity for you to ask us any questions.
- 1:18:06Well, no, just thank you for letting me be on here.
- 1:18:08I'm honoured. I, I hope to get back and you
- 1:18:11know, it's an interesting conversation for me as well.
- 1:18:15I'm, you know, I'm just honored to be here today.
- 1:18:18We really appreciate that. And another thing we always ask
- 1:18:20our guest is if you can pick someone to be a future guest on
- 1:18:24our podcast that can fill that seat.
- 1:18:27Who would you recommend? Someone in your phone book?
- 1:18:30Someone in your black book? Preferably a celebrity.
- 1:18:34Well then, I thought, Rob Schneider.
- 1:18:36Yeah, Rob Schneider. Rob Schneider, stop it.
- 1:18:39Rob Schneider I I missed my Rob Schneider story.
- 1:18:41I my son was getting married and I mentioned Corbin Bernsen
- 1:18:45earlier. He was in a show called Psych,
- 1:18:46which was my son. It was his favorite.
- 1:18:48Show. I know the show.
- 1:18:49So I was telling Corbin about it, He said he said I'll send.
- 1:18:53He said I will send a video, congratulate him.
- 1:18:56So he did. Well then Governor Huckabee was
- 1:18:58Jordan was born in Arkansas and so Governor Huckabee sent a
- 1:19:01video. So I was like, what's Jordan's
- 1:19:03favorite movie? It's Home Alone 2.
- 1:19:05It's always been his favorite movie.
- 1:19:06I was like who do I know in that?
- 1:19:07And I was like, well I got Rob Snyder's number.
- 1:19:08So I text Rob and I don't know if he's going to respond or not.
- 1:19:11You know, I've never asked something like this for my I
- 1:19:14sent it to him. 4 minutes later, I get boom, I get a video back
- 1:19:18and it's Rob. And he's like, congratulations,
- 1:19:21Jordan, man, I'm so proud of you.
- 1:19:23You can do it. Yeah.
- 1:19:25Who does that? Why?
- 1:19:26Look, and he's in a Raising Cane's.
- 1:19:28That's a fast food restaurant. Hat and apron and I'm like,
- 1:19:31don't tell me Rob is so broke he's having to work at a fast
- 1:19:34food restaurant. What's going on?
- 1:19:35So I go on his Instagram or on his Twitter handle and I look it
- 1:19:39up on X and he was there doing some promo, a new movie he did.
- 1:19:42The guy that funded the movie owns all these raising cane.
- 1:19:45So he was doing a promo. He literally stepped out, did
- 1:19:48the video for me and stepped back in.
- 1:19:49I couldn't believe it. And what a guy.
- 1:19:51But I'll show you when we go off here, I'll show you the video.
- 1:19:53It's it's the greatest thing. But yeah, I don't know why he
- 1:19:57was the first person before he even said famous.
- 1:19:59He's the first person popped in my mind.
- 1:20:01That's the guy that can't say no to you so.
- 1:20:03Doctor, Pastor, if you get him to come onto this show, Rob
- 1:20:07Graham, I will be internally grateful to you.
- 1:20:10He happens to be one of the, I think, funnier actors of our
- 1:20:14time. And he hasn't done movies
- 1:20:15lately, but back in the day. There's a Jewish friend of mine
- 1:20:19that doesn't know. That line that you just said and
- 1:20:21learned, all the movies that he's done and by the way he
- 1:20:23started doing stand up comedy more recently and he in comedy,
- 1:20:26his bits are out of this world. He's very funny.
- 1:20:29He's good at standing. A lot of political, but not
- 1:20:32political, but exactly he's. Doing it just enough, just
- 1:20:35right. And, and he's, he's phenomenal
- 1:20:37with love, love, love. The tradition that we have is
- 1:20:39that you call him and that you ask him on the podcast.
- 1:20:42Give it a shot, I. Don't know you want to give it a
- 1:20:44shot? No, no, no, no.
- 1:20:45OK. This is what we do, no?
- 1:20:47No, no, this is. What we do?
- 1:20:48Lewis is nodding his head. I don't know man, this.
- 1:20:50Is better I. Would put you up to the test.
- 1:20:52Well, I tell you what, I I will reach out to him.
- 1:20:54OK, I will reach out. Done.
- 1:20:56We'll settle for that. You know, we really appreciate
- 1:20:59you being here and really, you know the oh, she, by the way,
- 1:21:02great questions. Thank you.
- 1:21:04Really great questions. And what even better than the
- 1:21:06questions were the answers? Yeah, it was fantastic.
- 1:21:09Love, love the dialogue. So I we got to do Round 2 or
- 1:21:11even round 3 when you when you're back to.
- 1:21:13Drivers, thank you to all our listeners.
- 1:21:15Thank you to all of our growth, to all of our fans, to the Prime
- 1:21:19Source production team, to Twillery.
- 1:21:21We love the feedback, we love the growth, we love what we're
- 1:21:24doing here. And on behalf of all of us,
- 1:21:28happy New Year because our Jewish New Year is coming up.
- 1:21:30So you know, any message that you have to, to people
- 1:21:34listening, you know, it's our Jewish New Year.
- 1:21:36It's just. No, I wish you a happy new year.
- 1:21:38And you know, every new year is a chance.
- 1:21:41It really is kind of a restart. And so as you're getting ready
- 1:21:45to go into it, reflect, ask God to show you what needs to be
- 1:21:49better to change and and then started off the new year and
- 1:21:55take a day at a time. And if you do something 30 days,
- 1:21:58it becomes a habit. Love it.
- 1:21:59Thank you so much, Pastor. It's a wrap.
- 1:22:02Thank you, Pastor.
