- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean. Here it is, a Friday.
- 0:16It's the 26th of September. Oh, could it be it's the last
- 0:21Friday of September already. Here we are, but it is Friday
- 0:25and you have made it here. And for that I say well done.
- 0:28The end of another week has been achieved, or maybe will be
- 0:32achieved later today. But wherever you are, whatever's
- 0:34going on, great to have your company.
- 0:36As we pause, take a deep breath. Yeah, do it with me.
- 0:42Nice deep breath and we put down madness of today, the
- 0:48expectation of what may be coming, the memory of what has
- 0:52passed, the pressure that may be landed on our shoulders.
- 0:55We just rest that all place it all down and we come before God,
- 1:00ready for His truth to shape us. Come Holy Spirit, may the truth
- 1:06of your proverbs speak to us and share your wisdom with us.
- 1:12Oh yes, we are ready. So without further ado, let us
- 1:16dive in for our weekly dose of God's wisdom through the
- 1:19Proverbs as we read Proverbs 2622 to 28.
- 1:34Discretion is a life giving fountain to those who possess
- 1:38it, but discipline is wasted on fools.
- 1:43From a wise mind comes wise speech.
- 1:47The words of the wise are persuasive.
- 1:51Kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healthy for the
- 1:56body. There is a path before each
- 2:00person that seems right, but it ends in death.
- 2:07It is good for workers to have an appetite.
- 2:09An empty stomach drives them on. Scoundrels create trouble.
- 2:17Their words are a destructive blaze.
- 2:23A troublemaker plants seeds of strife.
- 2:25Gossip separates the best of friends.
- 2:31And again, discretion is a life giving fountain to those who
- 2:36possess it. But discipline is wasted on
- 2:39fools. From a wise mind comes wise
- 2:44speech. The words of the wise are
- 2:47persuasive. Kind words are like honey, sweet
- 2:54to the soul and healthy for the body.
- 2:59There is a path before each person that seems right, but it
- 3:03ends in death. It is good for workers to have
- 3:09an appetite. An empty stomach drives them on.
- 3:15Scoundrels create trouble. Their words are a destructive
- 3:18blaze. A troublemaker plants seeds of
- 3:24strife. Gossip separates the best of
- 3:27friends. Oh wowzers, Lord, there is so
- 3:39much in these proverbs that we could just spend time reflecting
- 3:44on, and I pray that we do that through the day.
- 3:46But ah, Lord, right now I want to thank you for these words
- 3:50about kindness. Kind words like honey, sweet to
- 3:54the soul and healthy for the body.
- 3:58What kindness? So often, particularly in the
- 4:01the rushed and busy and pressured world of today, seems
- 4:05like like a quaint luxury almost.
- 4:08But Lord, again and again we see your kindness to us.
- 4:13And in this proverb, the words of the King tell us that kind
- 4:18words are good for the soul and good for the body, good to be
- 4:23able to share kind words and good to receive kind words.
- 4:27So Lord, we can't control the words that we'll receive today,
- 4:31but Lord make us kind people who have kind words for others.
- 4:36It's easy to pick holes in things, and it's easy to speak
- 4:39critically and harshly. And that's often our native
- 4:43tongue, particularly as we listen to the media around us.
- 4:48Lord, I pray that you would, through US, show the world a
- 4:51different way of being, the way of kindness.
- 4:56So, Holy Spirit, I pray that you would grow kindness within us so
- 5:01that we can be known as kind people.
- 5:05And that in itself will shake things up and usher in your
- 5:09kingdom's way. So kind, kind God, pray for your
- 5:17kindness. Amen.
