- 0:00Exodus chapter 20, verse one, and God spoke all these words
- 0:06saying what did he say? Well, let's go to verse two.
- 0:10I am the Lord your God which have brought you out of the land
- 0:14of Egypt, out of the House of bondage.
- 0:17So we need to understand that we were all in bondage to sin.
- 0:22We were all sins to selfishness and vanity to mammon friends.
- 0:29We were all in bondage to violence.
- 0:32We were all in bondage to gossip and slandering.
- 0:38We were all in bondage at one point in time and God chose us
- 0:43before the foundations of the earth and rescued us from
- 0:47ourselves. Praise God.
- 0:49Hallelujah, verse three. You shall have no other gods
- 0:53before me. So we are going to get to see
- 0:56the 10 commandments, friends, and we're going to see them in
- 1:00the correct order. There are those who omit the
- 1:05second commandment to their own demise.
- 1:08Verse 4. You shall not make unto you any
- 1:12graven image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above
- 1:18or the OR that is in the earth beneath or that is in the water
- 1:22under the earth. So here we can see that God is
- 1:25preeminent. He takes first place.
- 1:28We don't get to replace him with any other thing, whether it be
- 1:32self, whether it be money, whether it be something that
- 1:36we've carved an idol. Your heart is a perpetual idol
- 1:40factory that pumps out idols left and right and willingly and
- 1:45unknowingly we pump out the idols that we laid down and
- 1:50worship. Too far be it from us to ever
- 1:52let anything take the first place over a holy God who
- 1:57deserves all of our affection and adoration and worship.
- 2:02Friends, verse 5 You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor
- 2:08serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting
- 2:14the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the 3rd and
- 2:184th generation of them that hate me.
- 2:21So You can see here that the sins of the fathers follow unto
- 2:25the children because they learn these things and they are
- 2:29impressionable friends. And it is high time for men to
- 2:34be men and to be fathers unto their children, and to work on
- 2:39the family unit and to stay when it's hard.
- 2:42Friends. And to not let the enemy drive a
- 2:45wedge and to not let the enemy cause you to go by the wayside
- 2:51and to go into these addictive tangents.
- 2:56Friends, we need to be men who actually uphold the Word of God
- 3:01and teach them to our children. Because there is so many things
- 3:06that are at stake and there are generational blessings and
- 3:09generational curses, friends. And you need to understand that
- 3:14we are called to be the chain Breakers over those generational
- 3:19curses so that we can pray for generations upon generations
- 3:23upon generations of our ancestors and our predecessors
- 3:28to be blessed. Friends, we need to know that
- 3:31God is fighting our battles. We need to understand that God
- 3:35is for us. We need to understand that there
- 3:38is no weapon formed against us that shall prosper.
- 3:41And we break those down in the name of Jesus Christ. 6 and
- 3:47showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my
- 3:51commandments. That is the whole crux, friends,
- 3:54is that we teach them to our children in the way.
- 3:58We teach them on the road, we teach them while we dine, we
- 4:01teach them in our house, we teach them whenever we are at
- 4:05leisure. We teach them at all times.
- 4:07We write them on the doorpost, Friends, at all times, 24 hours
- 4:12a day, seven days a week. We teach our children whether it
- 4:16is in Word or indeed they are watching us.
- 4:21Seven. You shall not take the name of
- 4:23the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him
- 4:27guiltless. That takes his name in vain.
- 4:30How many of us are witnesses to those who think that it is a
- 4:37funny thing, who think that it is a cultural thing, who think
- 4:42that it is a nothing to take the Lord's name in vain and we need
- 4:47to stop our ears. We need to run away, flee you
- 4:52from those who do not see the error of their ways.
- 4:56Tell them that they are going to have to answer for it.
- 5:00Friends, they do not need to continue on in taking the Lord's
- 5:04name in vain, and far be it from us to be silent on those
- 5:09matters. It is offensive unto a holy
- 5:12God's ears to hear people use His name in a flippant way,
- 5:17friends, and there will come a time in a day that they will
- 5:21desperately need that name, but it will not hold any power for
- 5:24them, because to them it is just a cuss word or a byword.
- 5:29To them it is just a slang word. To them it means nothing.
- 5:34And that is the great tactic of our enemy who tries to get
- 5:38people to think nothing of a holy name.
- 5:42And Jesus is the name that is above all names, friends.
- 5:46And Yahweh Everlasting is the name that has all power of life
- 5:51in it, friends, and we do not take it lightly.
- 5:53We do not take it irreverently. We call upon that name, and we
- 5:57are saved. 8 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.
- 6:03So he's going to tell us why we need a day of rest?
- 6:07Because it was good for God, so it is good for mankind. 9-6 Days
- 6:12shall you labor and do all your work. 10 But the 7th day is the
- 6:17Sabbath of the Lord, for God. In it you shall do no work.
- 6:22You shall nor your son, your daughter, your manservant, your
- 6:25maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within
- 6:30your gate. So look at how God is a God who
- 6:33actually shows equality and he shows that he is no respecter of
- 6:38man and that we are all on equal playing fields and even the
- 6:42cattle within our own house. He says give them a break, let
- 6:48them rest, let the ground rest. Friends, we need to kick our
- 6:52feet up. We need to enjoy our time with
- 6:56the Lord and focus on His face and get out of the rat race of
- 7:01life. We need to make sure that we
- 7:03take one day and do absolutely nothing and break the cycle of
- 7:11the week and let your mind rest, let your emotions rest, let your
- 7:16body rest, and watch how much more productive you are for the
- 7:21six days. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the
- 7:26sea, and all that is in them, and he rested on the 7th day.
- 7:30Wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and he hallowed it.
- 7:34So we need to understand that God thought that it was good to
- 7:39rest even though God is at work still up to this day.
- 7:42You need to understand that God modeled for us how it is that
- 7:46mankind is to you operate within the 7th 7 day frame.
- 7:52And you also need to understand that God could have made us to
- 7:55where we didn't even need rest, that we didn't even need sleep.
- 7:58But it is a great gift of God and we thank Him for it. 12 I
- 8:04honor your father and mother that the days may be long upon
- 8:07the land which the Lord God gives you.
- 8:10So that is the first commandment that has a promise attached to
- 8:14it. And he's saying if you will
- 8:16honor your father and mother, then you will have a long life
- 8:20on this earth. How many people have been
- 8:22snuffed out at a young age because of disrespect?
- 8:27They did not listen to their mother and father.
- 8:29They did not listen to the advice of their parents.
- 8:32And it cost them their very life. 13 You shall not kill.
- 8:37So there is a big difference between premeditated murder.
- 8:41There is a big difference between defending your house,
- 8:45defending your land. And you're going to understand
- 8:49that the act of taking life unnecessarily so is a great
- 8:58offense unto God, and he will deal with it.
- 9:01He'll bring it all to the light. 16 You shall not bear false
- 9:05witness against your neighbor, so he's saying, Tell no lies. 17
- 9:12You shall not covet your neighbor's house.
- 9:16You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his
- 9:21manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor
- 9:28anything that is your neighbors. So he's saying, be grateful for
- 9:32the things that you have. Be satisfied for the things that
- 9:36you have. Be content with the things that
- 9:39you have. Do not pant after what someone
- 9:42else has. 18 And all the people saw the thunderings and
- 9:49lightnings and the noise of the trumpet in the mountain smoking.
- 9:54And when the people saw it, they removed and stood far off.
- 9:59They were sorely afraid at the sight, this terrible sight of
- 10:03God's presence upon the mountain. 19 And they said to
- 10:08Moses, Speak you with us, and we will hear, but let not God speak
- 10:14with us, unless we die. The voice of God was resonating
- 10:19through the air, and it made the people fearfully, dreadfully
- 10:24afraid. 20 And Moses said unto the people, Do not fear, for God
- 10:31has come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your
- 10:36faces, that you send. Not so.
- 10:38God's whole intent was for them to have reverence for his power
- 10:45and his might, his omnipotence, his omniscience, his
- 10:49omnipresence. He's all powerful.
- 10:51He's eternal. He's forever to be worthy, to be
- 10:55praised and honored and glorified.
- 10:59And you see, they say, 21 And the people stood far off, and
- 11:05Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.
- 11:10Imagine that. See it in your minds.
- 11:13Replay it in your minds, friends, this thick darkness,
- 11:17these rolls of Thunder, these peels of lightning, the
- 11:21earthquaking, and the smoke on the mountain.
- 11:25And Moses goes in, and we are called to go in.
- 11:29Friends, don't stay out there. Don't stay far off from God.
- 11:34Come in to his holy presence by the blood of the Lamb covering
- 11:38you. 22 And the Lord said unto Moses, Thus you shall say unto
- 11:44the children of Israel, You have seen that I've talked with you
- 11:48from heaven. So God revealed himself in all
- 11:52of the different myriad of ways here, but he more than anything
- 11:58he spoke to them in Word. 23 You shall not make with me gods of
- 12:06silver, neither shall you make unto you gods of gold.
- 12:10So they were not to try to replicate any former image of
- 12:15God, they were to worship Him in spirit and truth. 24 An altar of
- 12:24earth you shall make unto me, and shall sacrifice on it.
- 12:28Your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and
- 12:32your ox, and all places where I record my name.
- 12:36I will come unto you, and I will bless you.
- 12:39So here God's giving the precursor to what it was going
- 12:45to be like when the people sin. Not if, but when.
- 12:49Because God already knew, and He wanted more than anything for
- 12:53the people to keep themselves spotless and blameless.
- 12:57But He knew that he was going to have to provide a sacrifice for
- 13:01them, and it was going to come in the form of His only begotten
- 13:04Son. And that is the only way that we
- 13:07would ever make it into the presence of a mighty God. 25 And
- 13:13if you will make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of
- 13:17cut stone, for I will lift, for if you lift up your tool upon
- 13:22it, you have polluted it. He's saying make a simple altar.
- 13:26I do not require an ornate altar.
- 13:30I just want simple worship. We'll end on 26.
- 13:36Neither shall you go up by steps to my altar that your nakedness
- 13:42not be discovered on it. So he wanted them to keep it
- 13:45level with the gravel so that their nakedness would not be
- 13:49uncovered as they go up. What an amazing God we serve.
- 13:54And it won't be but 40 days from this point and the people will
- 13:59be dancing around a golden calf that they have formed because
- 14:04they did not know what happened to Moses.
- 14:06And they've turned their backs on this Almighty God that you
- 14:11see here on Mount Sinai. And we have to come up to Mount
- 14:15Zion, where Jesus Christ knew that we could never make it.
- 14:20So he came down and grabbed a hold of us to take us up.
- 14:23What an amazing God we serve. And you can see this
- 14:26juxtaposition between Mount Sinai and Mount Zion.
- 14:30And thank God we're on the other side of things.
- 14:33And we get to look backwards and we get to see 2020.
- 14:37And there are many things that are happening in our midst today
- 14:39say that we will have to wait to look back on to see the
- 14:43significance of what an amazing God we serve.
- 14:46I hope you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 14:49Word. I know I sure have.
- 14:51I'm praying for every single one of you.
- 14:53I love you and we will see you back here tomorrow.
- 14:57Let's pray. God we love you.
- 15:00God we serve you. God we want more of you.
- 15:03God, you are our everything. God, we do worship you in spirit
- 15:07and truth. Yes, God, we cover ourselves in
- 15:10the blood of the Lamb so that we can come in and dine and Sup
- 15:13with you. You are our all sufficient
- 15:15sacrifice. We yearn for more of you.
- 15:18Thank you for these holy words. Thank you for allowing us to
- 15:22meditate upon them. God, I pray that they'll go out
- 15:25and change lives and set people free.
- 15:28God, I pray you'll set the captives free.
- 15:31God, I pray that you'll anoint these words and allow them to
- 15:34saturate our lives. It's in Jesus Christ, holy and
- 15:38precious name, I pray. Amen.
