Transcript
- 0:00Val Kilmer has passed away at the age of 65.
- 0:03He passed away yesterday, Tuesday, April 1st, and the cause of death has been
- 0:09reported as pneumonia, and this was said by his daughter Mercedes Kilmer.
- 0:15So today we're going to talk, we're going to take a look at the career Val Kilmer
- 0:19had and some of the roles he had in his most notable movies that I thought were
- 0:24just amazing and what I most remember him for.
- 0:29And he was an awesome actor. He was, but he was more than that.
- 0:32There was a just amazing things he did in his life, but we're going to primarily
- 0:36focus on the movie roles that he performed in. My name is Brandon Fogle. This is Evolution.
- 0:42Let's get into it. So when you think of Val Kilmer, when you hear that name,
- 0:47what immediately goes to mind?
- 0:50What role that he played goes to mind? Mine is, without question,
- 0:55no hesitation, Doc Holliday in the movie Tombstone.
- 1:00We're going to take a look at a couple of his big roles, but the one that stands
- 1:04out to me the most, even though he wasn't the primary actor,
- 1:09the primary person on stage in the movie Tombstone, to me, he made that movie.
- 1:15You know, Kurt Russell was incredible, incredible, but Val Kilmer and as Doc
- 1:20Holliday, no one could have done it better. I'm here, Huckleberry.
- 1:24That is the line. And I just followed a guy on X solely by the solely the reason
- 1:33he had Doc Holliday's picture played by Val Kilmer in his profile.
- 1:40That was the only I mean, that won me over just that, you know,
- 1:43so I I'm going to probably have to get a picture of Doc Holliday.
- 1:48Val Kilmer playing that role in here as well.
- 1:51I got my Al Pacino playing Scarface and the Joker as well.
- 1:57So I'm definitely into movies and into acting and somebody that could have just
- 2:04stole the stage and ran away with it would have been Val Kilmer and his role as Doc Holliday.
- 2:10But there are so many other roles. I just forget about it because it's been
- 2:14a while before, since he was in the limelight and he,
- 2:18one that you might've forgot about was Willow when in his role as in the,
- 2:24in the story of Willow, you know, the, and he, he kind of had a villainous role in that.
- 2:31And he was just a bad dude in it, but he was overall, he had a good heart,
- 2:36but he was just caught up in a lot of things that made him seem like,
- 2:39you know, he wasn't the best guy that Willow should have trusted in his journey
- 2:43and his, you know, his quest.
- 2:45But he was amazing that another one I go to is Ghost in the Darkness and his
- 2:50role as they're in Africa. And he's an engineer. He's got to build a bridge.
- 2:56Help this village, help this, these, these, this people group that's out there,
- 3:01but they are just being attacked by lions every day.
- 3:06And he has to put an end to this, these, these ghosts in the darkness that are
- 3:11these lions that are just man eaters that are just destroying people.
- 3:15He was amazing in that role.
- 3:17Deja vu. That was a one that I pulled up the list of movies that he did and
- 3:22it never popped up, but he was in the movie Deja Vu, or am I having Deja Vu?
- 3:27The movie with Denzel Washington, he was in that, wasn't he?
- 3:30And I thought that was a really good movie, but every time I pulled up a list
- 3:33for Val Kilmer, he never, that would never made the top 10 or anything.
- 3:39I didn't even see it on the list. So am I wrong on that? I don't know.
- 3:43I don't think I am. I'm pretty sure he was in that. He just didn't have the
- 3:46Denzel Washington role.
- 3:48He was just a character in that, but he did a good job, a really good job in that as well.
- 3:53Batman. Is he the best Batman? Will he go down as the best Batman of all time?
- 3:58To me, that's a very tough one, but I would say he's up there.
- 4:01I would say he's definitely in the top three, at least the top three,
- 4:07I would give him a top three position, him playing Bruce Wayne and Batman three.
- 4:12That one was an amazing movie with Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey.
- 4:16That one was a very good one. And I thought he did a stellar job at that,
- 4:20but I know people are going to land and you can argue with me if you want.
- 4:25Everybody goes to Top Gun.
- 4:27Top Gun is the critical role that Val Kilmer played as Iceman.
- 4:33And that was like eighties. That was eighties.
- 4:37I'm, I'm, if I'm remembering it right, you know, I wasn't really in tune what
- 4:41was going on in the eighties, but I think that was an eighties movie.
- 4:44And him playing almost the antagonist against Tom Cruise in that movie,
- 4:49who was the primary character.
- 4:52In his role as Maverick, but Iceman was the guy that just kept going at him
- 4:58and just challenging him on everything and just trying to make him look stupid.
- 5:03But then they come together and they join forces and he makes another appearance
- 5:08in the most recent movie of the remake, not really a remake,
- 5:13but just a 20 years or 30 years later of Top Gun when the movie Maverick came out.
- 5:19And Val Kilmer had a, a role in that.
- 5:22It wasn't as front and front and center, but it was a role.
- 5:26Nonetheless, they had to, because Val Kilmer, he was suffering from throat cancer since 2014.
- 5:33He had recovered from that, but you know, it's, it's just, it's very tough,
- 5:38you know, and I just wanted to take this time, just this, this show,
- 5:41just to remember all that Val Kilmer was.
- 5:44I thought he was incredible in all the roles that he did.
- 5:48And I'm going to put his picture on the screen. And if you can see that it's
- 5:52him in that most iconic role of Doc Holliday.
- 5:56I, no one does it better. No one could have done it better.
- 5:59And another, I remember if he, he was in the role, the running for the role Forrest Gump.
- 6:07I'm pretty sure he was in the running for that. He could have been Forrest Gump,
- 6:10but Tom Hanks, I think he blasted that one out of the park. So I don't know.
- 6:16That would have been tough.
- 6:17Could you have seen Forrest Gump being played by Val Kilmer?
- 6:21It was, it might've been one that he missed out on, but either way,
- 6:24he led a, an amazing career.
- 6:26I just, I will all, there are not every, not all actors are people that you're
- 6:32like, you feel a connection with in their roles that they play.
- 6:36And I know they're not the same person that they are on screen as who they are in real life.
- 6:41But some of the times that you, it's like you get to know them when they're
- 6:46on screen. You feel like you know them and they are a part of your life,
- 6:50that you have a connection with them.
- 6:52And I have, like I said, Al Pacino, and I just drew a blank on,
- 6:59I just didn't want to sound stupid of who played the Joker.
- 7:02I just like name earlier.
- 7:08Heath Ledger. That was another one I would have, that I felt a connection.
- 7:13There are people like Al Pacino.
- 7:15That is his name. Heath Ledger. I'm just going to look it up because I don't want to.
- 7:20Heath Ledger. I just, I was thinking, I was going back between Kiefer Sutherland
- 7:25and Heath, and I could not think of it and I didn't want to say it, but that is another guy.
- 7:30So in my, I would say in my life, there are three people that really stand out
- 7:33to me in their roles and it would be Al Pacino, Scarface, Heath Ledger in his
- 7:38role as the Joker, and Doc Holliday, Val Kilmer playing Doc Holliday.
- 7:43Those are people that really stand out to me, characters that they,
- 7:47their performance will last.
- 7:50Into the ages. No one could have done it better.
- 7:54They will have a forever mark on the Hollywood, you know, that landscape.
- 8:02No one could have led a better performance than them, and those are the people
- 8:07you just feel a connection with.
- 8:08I feel, I don't know if you feel about that, about anybody out there,
- 8:11any actors or actresses in roles that they've played that you just, you know them.
- 8:16You you just like, you feel that connection with them and they've left,
- 8:19they've left a lasting mark on your life.
- 8:22This is one of them. This is one of them. Val Kilmer was incredible.
- 8:26He played in so many roles.
- 8:28He had so many contributions to the whole industry of moviemaking.
- 8:33And there's so many other ones that we could have, I could have just listed
- 8:36through one that keeps popping up is the movie, the saint. I never saw the saint.
- 8:40I never saw that. And there were so many other ones that he that
- 8:43he's known for the heat kiss kiss bang
- 8:46bang the secret i've never known this but these are the
- 8:49most the top the top known movies of val
- 8:52kilmer but either way it's it's extremely tough when you lose anyone you know
- 8:58but our life here it's just a reminder of our life here is not what matters
- 9:02forever what matters is what we do in this life goes into eternity what we do in this life.
- 9:09So it's, this is just a, just a spot, a, a moment, a brief moment that we are
- 9:17ever going to experience.
- 9:18We are all eventually going to step into eternity. So the, the things that you
- 9:23are doing every day matter.
- 9:26They are going to last beyond the grave.
- 9:29They are going to last beyond that time that we are all going to take our final breath.
- 9:34So there's not, we, we don't have to fear it.
- 9:38The thing that, the only thing that can make us overcome it,
- 9:41you know, is our relationship with God, you know, trusting in Christ.
- 9:46That's what will carry us through into the next age. So we can have peace no
- 9:50matter what we're going through.
- 9:51But I had to spend this time just to talk about, about Val Kilmer and what he
- 9:55meant to me and, and the movies he was in and just his overall as he,
- 10:01as he was, was a person, you know?
- 10:04So, all right. All right. We'll leave it at that. So everybody just keep going
- 10:08and keep evolving to the best version of you.
