- 1:05and damien in the house
- 1:08damien how's the wifey
- 1:09feeling I gotta ask him I
- 1:12gotta ask him before we get
- 1:13started his wifey had
- 1:14surgery last week what you
- 1:16drinking there scott uh
- 1:19fair life protein shake I
- 1:21got my mom and dad on those
- 1:23Yeah.
- 1:23They, uh,
- 1:24the core power has like 42 grams
- 1:27of protein, but those are,
- 1:28those are pretty good.
- 1:29What are those?
- 1:3029 grams of protein?
- 1:3130.
- 1:31Yeah.
- 1:32Those are pretty good.
- 1:34Yeah.
- 1:34I, like I told you before we got on there,
- 1:36I wasn't feeling super great today.
- 1:39Um, and so my appetite's not super high.
- 1:41So just trying to get the
- 1:43protein in where I can.
- 1:44Yeah.
- 1:45Have you tried the Jocko ones yet?
- 1:46I tried them at the games.
- 1:49Um,
- 1:50because they were handing
- 1:51them out for free.
- 1:53They're okay.
- 1:55One of the people that I saw
- 1:56was reviewing the
- 1:57different... People do
- 1:58reviews on YouTube.
- 2:00She was reviewing the taste
- 2:02of all the different protein shakes,
- 2:04and she claimed that one tasted the best.
- 2:08I've had better.
- 2:09Yeah, she rated that one against Core,
- 2:11Power,
- 2:12the Alooie or Alohi or whatever it is one,
- 2:16the Premier Protein,
- 2:18the Quest Protein ones.
- 2:20few others, but, but yeah,
- 2:22those can be a great little quick trick,
- 2:25quick little something or
- 2:26other to get things going.
- 2:28But, but yeah, well,
- 2:31good to hear about your,
- 2:34about your wife there, Damien.
- 2:35Hopefully she's going to be
- 2:37recovering as the weeks progress.
- 2:38So, and she's got,
- 2:40You got her on the peptides.
- 2:41You know,
- 2:42I had a client ask me about
- 2:43peptides this week.
- 2:44I didn't know how to respond.
- 2:46I was like, he's like,
- 2:47seems like a lot of
- 2:48CrossFitters are using
- 2:49peptides these days.
- 2:50Should I get on those?
- 2:51I'm like, I don't know.
- 2:52Are they allowed in the sport?
- 2:54I don't think they're
- 2:54allowed in the sport.
- 2:55If you're competing, they are not allowed.
- 2:58Yeah, I didn't think so.
- 2:59So I was kind of like...
- 3:00They're legal for everyday
- 3:02average Joe people.
- 3:04Yeah, yeah, but...
- 3:05Not that I've used any of them,
- 3:07but I've just heard so much
- 3:09talk about them.
- 3:09Yeah.
- 3:10Different shows.
- 3:12Yeah.
- 3:13Some we should look into
- 3:13maybe and do a show on at some point.
- 3:16Yeah.
- 3:16I should do a definitely talk,
- 3:18a little peptide talk.
- 3:20Or have someone on that knows about them.
- 3:21Yeah.
- 3:22So I'm excited to check in
- 3:24with you today because I
- 3:25know that last week we kind of exposed
- 3:28Um, I guess I feel like, you know,
- 3:30when it comes to nutrition coaching,
- 3:32I think that people think it's just like,
- 3:34tell me what to eat.
- 3:36Tell me what my macro should be and like,
- 3:38make sure I'm doing it every single week,
- 3:39which is,
- 3:40which is part of what we do as a coach.
- 3:42But part of what we do as coaches is also,
- 3:45well, if you're a good coach,
- 3:46you're also looking at the
- 3:47things in a person's life
- 3:49that impacts their ability
- 3:51to do those things, um,
- 3:53Some of them are good.
- 3:54Some of them are not so good, right?
- 3:56Like we all have ups and downs in life.
- 3:58And last week you had like a
- 4:01couple of things that
- 4:02really kind of just came
- 4:03full frontal for you all at once.
- 4:06And, you know,
- 4:07your last couple of weeks
- 4:08had been a little bit rocky
- 4:10and it was kind of like you
- 4:12hit that breaking point
- 4:13where it was like,
- 4:14This is where I'm at.
- 4:15And it's important to kind
- 4:16of just allow yourself to
- 4:18have that space to be like, okay,
- 4:20let me collect my thoughts.
- 4:21And sometimes what a coach
- 4:22does is just also help to
- 4:24give you some insight as to
- 4:26how things in life might
- 4:28impact your food and your
- 4:30choices and all that stuff.
- 4:32And mentally last week,
- 4:34you were kind of at your breaking point.
- 4:36And we had seen over the
- 4:37last couple of weeks that
- 4:39compliance was a little bit lacking.
- 4:41I don't think that you were
- 4:42going off the deep end in
- 4:44terms of nutrition,
- 4:45but you weren't as
- 4:46committed to the things you
- 4:49had been doing prior
- 4:50because you were kind of on
- 4:51that slippery slope down.
- 4:52And that's a part of the process.
- 4:55I think the best way to put
- 4:56it is the first thing that
- 4:58goes for me is the logging.
- 5:00It's not my nutrition.
- 5:02It's the logging of the
- 5:03nutrition that is the first thing to go.
- 5:06Yeah.
- 5:07And if you don't catch that,
- 5:09then other things start sliding as well.
- 5:12Yeah,
- 5:13and because you're not somebody who
- 5:15eats...
- 5:16pretty much the same thing
- 5:17from day to day.
- 5:18When you're not logging,
- 5:19your nutrition may not be
- 5:21bad food choices,
- 5:22but it ends up being the up
- 5:25and down of lower protein, higher protein,
- 5:29calories low, calories too high.
- 5:31And that's where things kind
- 5:32of get into this slippery slope.
- 5:34So because you aren't, you know,
- 5:36some people are very routine.
- 5:38Like if I didn't track my food today,
- 5:40it's pretty much the same
- 5:41as it was yesterday.
- 5:42I might have a little bit
- 5:42more egg whites or a little bit more
- 5:45cereal or whatever,
- 5:45but for the most part I'm
- 5:47eating pretty much the same
- 5:48thing or I'm exchanging.
- 5:50If I'm going to have a wrap,
- 5:51I'm going to have a wrap or
- 5:52I'm going to have rice.
- 5:53Like I'm kind of exchanging things.
- 5:54And I think sometimes you guys,
- 5:56you're more of a,
- 5:58your dinners can sometimes
- 5:59be more recipes.
- 5:59Although since you've been taken over,
- 6:02that's not really been as
- 6:03much of an issue.
- 6:04So, but yeah,
- 6:06I just wanted to start by
- 6:07saying first and foremost,
- 6:09like it was good to like
- 6:10put yourself out there.
- 6:11And I think that that's
- 6:13number one and giving
- 6:15yourself the opportunity to like,
- 6:18kind of troubleshoot and
- 6:19learn from that experience.
- 6:20So in your check-in last week, you know,
- 6:23every week we do a check-in,
- 6:25one of my suggestions to you,
- 6:26and I give this to
- 6:27everybody that's listening,
- 6:28if you are somebody that
- 6:29you're going to hit road bumps,
- 6:30you're going to hit speed
- 6:32bumps and things,
- 6:33and you're going to lose compliance,
- 6:35I recommend everybody having an ICE list.
- 6:38And an ICE list, in case of emergencies,
- 6:41also known as,
- 6:43is literally a list of
- 6:44foods and meals that no matter what,
- 6:47they are going to hit the spot.
- 6:50They're easy to come
- 6:51together and you don't have
- 6:52to put too much thinking in
- 6:53it so that when you're in
- 6:54that space of like the
- 6:56mental energy just isn't there, you know,
- 6:59you can always rely on those things.
- 7:02And that was one of my
- 7:02suggestions to you last week,
- 7:04knowing that, you know,
- 7:05I know that you're probably
- 7:06not using them this week.
- 7:07This week,
- 7:07it's going to be probably pretty standard,
- 7:09but when life hits again, it's like,
- 7:12I know that I can super
- 7:13easily throw together a
- 7:14pack of tuna and some
- 7:16nonfat Greek yogurt and
- 7:17make a tuna salad and eat it with a pita.
- 7:20Whatever might be your go-to
- 7:23ice meals to kind of get you going.
- 7:26So just one of the things I
- 7:28wanted to touch on from last week.
- 7:30So since I started taking over the cooking,
- 7:33I cook almost everything on the weekend.
- 7:36And then it's all cooked in
- 7:37the refrigerator, ready to go.
- 7:39And that's the big
- 7:41difference between when I
- 7:43cook and when my wife cooks.
- 7:47One, we've stopped the HelloFresh meals.
- 7:49So now I'm just cooking a
- 7:52bunch of chicken breasts on Sunday,
- 7:53a bunch of burgers like I told you,
- 7:56and I can break those up
- 7:57into rice or into whatever I need to.
- 8:01And then this week I smoked
- 8:03some pork just to have some
- 8:05pulled pork to be able to
- 8:06throw in a salad,
- 8:08be able to do things like that.
- 8:10So I had those three protein options.
- 8:12Mm-hmm.
- 8:13Then it's just grabbing a
- 8:14veggie or fruit or
- 8:16something to kind of offset
- 8:17that a little bit.
- 8:19I got some cottage cheese
- 8:20and I got some things like
- 8:21that that are quick add-ons
- 8:23here and there.
- 8:24Yeah.
- 8:25I want to just kind of
- 8:26comment on one thing.
- 8:27Judy Reed comments,
- 8:29why do you suppose that is
- 8:30that your logging goes?
- 8:33And I want to touch on two
- 8:34things with this.
- 8:35One,
- 8:35I want to give Scott the opportunity
- 8:36to answer, why do you think logging goes?
- 8:39But two,
- 8:39to kind of think about this a
- 8:41little bit differently.
- 8:42So why do you think logging
- 8:43goes when you're in that place?
- 8:46Why do I think that?
- 8:47Why do you not log?
- 8:49I think logging is so
- 8:51counterintuitive to my day-to-day life.
- 8:54I am not a list person.
- 8:55I am not a have a daily
- 9:00planner kind of thing.
- 9:01I am
- 9:04Like I have it all up into
- 9:05my head and then I just
- 9:08sort things out that way.
- 9:09And I do that with my work life.
- 9:11I do that with my personal life.
- 9:13And so for me to log,
- 9:15it's the most unnatural
- 9:17part of this whole thing.
- 9:18Right.
- 9:20So there's two things that I
- 9:21want to really,
- 9:23really point out with this
- 9:24is another part of coaching
- 9:26is knowing that that's not
- 9:27a natural thing to every single person.
- 9:30Logging,
- 9:31there's days where I haven't
- 9:33logged my food until about
- 9:34four o'clock in the afternoon.
- 9:36But again, like you,
- 9:38I keep everything up here.
- 9:39I can go in and log
- 9:42everything and I'll be fine.
- 9:44I know what I'm eating.
- 9:45I know that.
- 9:46You're at that place.
- 9:48I think that what might be missing is that,
- 9:52shit, if I don't log,
- 9:53Cheryl can't see what I'm doing,
- 9:55which is really the main
- 9:56purpose of logging,
- 9:58is that I can't adjust
- 9:59things if we don't know what's going in.
- 10:01And I don't know if I'm
- 10:03going to be closer to my goals or not.
- 10:07But when it comes to logging,
- 10:08I think it's really
- 10:09important that people don't
- 10:12logging isn't something that
- 10:13I feel like people should
- 10:14feel like they have to do
- 10:15for the rest of their life.
- 10:17And missing a couple of days
- 10:19of logging should not
- 10:21In my opinion, okay,
- 10:23and this is as a coach,
- 10:26I don't think that if you
- 10:27don't log your food that
- 10:29you should not still be
- 10:30able to make progress if
- 10:33you have spent a
- 10:34significant amount of time
- 10:35logging food and you're not
- 10:38changing it much.
- 10:39So if you miss one or two days,
- 10:42that's not the end of the world.
- 10:43We were at a place where you
- 10:44had missed more than one or two days,
- 10:46but I think it's really
- 10:47important for people not to
- 10:49rely on food tracking.
- 10:51If you're tracking your food,
- 10:53a lot of people burn out
- 10:55because the entire day
- 10:58they're spending so much
- 10:59time playing macro Tetris.
- 11:02If I have this,
- 11:02am I going to be able to have that later?
- 11:04And if I have that later,
- 11:06what do I have to have now
- 11:07to get enough protein?
- 11:09And that becomes a really
- 11:10unnatural way to live
- 11:12unless you're planning on
- 11:13logging for the rest of your life.
- 11:15I would much rather my clients be like,
- 11:17I'm in a pretty good range.
- 11:19Things are looking pretty good.
- 11:20And,
- 11:21and just kind of keeping that
- 11:22accountability.
- 11:23I don't, I don't think that people,
- 11:26I think that you should be
- 11:27able to successfully miss a
- 11:30day or two of logging and
- 11:31still be on track.
- 11:32So I just wanted to kind of
- 11:33point that out too.
- 11:36Damien says I'm a hippie.
- 11:39I'm scrolling down.
- 11:41You're a hippie, Scott.
- 11:42Yeah.
- 11:42Yeah.
- 11:43Um, I'm looking, uh,
- 11:45Kenneth mentioned the real good foods.
- 11:47So, uh,
- 11:48this is awesome that you mentioned this.
- 11:49So just a funny story is, um, well,
- 11:52not really funny.
- 11:52My mother's not doing super hot right now.
- 11:55Um, she's on the mend,
- 11:56but I've been helping her
- 11:57and my dad out with some
- 11:58nutritional changes.
- 12:00So I took her to the store
- 12:01last week and we bought the
- 12:02real good food chicken
- 12:03bites and we bought my dad the fish.
- 12:06He's like, you know, it's so crazy.
- 12:08He's like,
- 12:09this is the first time I've had
- 12:10frozen fish.
- 12:11It's like,
- 12:12actually real fish.
- 12:14Like there's actually meat to the fish.
- 12:16I'm like,
- 12:17cause it's not like a compressed
- 12:18piece of like garbage.
- 12:20It's not like a fish stick.
- 12:21It's actual fish.
- 12:22It's like, it's, it's like real fish,
- 12:23Cheryl.
- 12:24I'm like, well,
- 12:25it was just funny because you,
- 12:27you expect that it to be
- 12:29real when you get it,
- 12:29but I don't need processed
- 12:31stuff like that.
- 12:32So it was just really an
- 12:33interesting thing to note about that.
- 12:35Yeah.
- 12:36Yeah.
- 12:37I don't,
- 12:39Is that a nationwide brand?
- 12:45Yeah.
- 12:46What's really cool is they
- 12:47make other things too.
- 12:51They make actual meals.
- 12:54I'm not in the freezer
- 12:55section very often of my store.
- 12:57Yeah.
- 13:01That's why I ask.
- 13:02I'm not familiar with what's available.
- 13:04These can be really good to have on hand.
- 13:06Let me just show you real quick.
- 13:07They can be really good to have on hand.
- 13:12if I can find it, here we go.
- 13:13Because it's also like a
- 13:15creative way to get more
- 13:16protein without it just
- 13:18being boring chicken,
- 13:20like 23 grams of protein per four ounces.
- 13:23And you're only getting six
- 13:24fat and three carbs.
- 13:26And they have like the
- 13:27chicken and they also have like
- 13:30Um, they have, uh, fish as well.
- 13:33Like that's what I bought my dad,
- 13:34but you can see they have
- 13:35like orange chicken,
- 13:36general Tao's chicken.
- 13:38If you like Chinese, um,
- 13:39they have different types of things,
- 13:41but they also make like
- 13:43grab and go burritos.
- 13:44Some of them are a little higher in fat.
- 13:46That's really the only problem.
- 13:48But they do have quite a bit
- 13:50of stuff here.
- 13:51I mean,
- 13:51look at this full prepared meals as well.
- 13:54I didn't know that they did that now.
- 13:55And it looks like you can
- 13:56even you can buy them or
- 13:59you can get them ordered to you.
- 14:01But yeah,
- 14:01this is this is what I've been
- 14:03getting for my my mom for
- 14:04some different protein options.
- 14:06So but yeah.
- 14:08OK.
- 14:09Yeah.
- 14:09Check that out.
- 14:10Yeah.
- 14:10It's, it's good stuff.
- 14:12So nutritionally kind of
- 14:14like getting you back in the saddle.
- 14:16Um,
- 14:17I know that you had not had a chance to
- 14:18go to the grocery store
- 14:19prior to our conversation last Tuesday.
- 14:21And I was like, Hey, so I wanted to know,
- 14:24what did you end up doing
- 14:24that night for dinner?
- 14:25I know it was like, well,
- 14:26grab a rotisserie chicken
- 14:27or grab some takeout,
- 14:28whatever you gotta do.
- 14:29What'd you end up doing that night?
- 14:32Last, last week ago.
- 14:34Yeah.
- 14:35Um, well after our call,
- 14:37what'd you end up doing?
- 14:38I think I,
- 14:39I think I actually went to the store.
- 14:40Yeah.
- 14:41And then I just grabbed, I think I cooked,
- 14:45I think I actually cooked
- 14:46chicken that night.
- 14:48I think.
- 14:51Well,
- 14:51the next day it looks like things were,
- 14:53let's see, you had deli chicken first.
- 14:57So you must've went to the
- 14:58store because you had
- 14:59chicken and you had beef for dinner.
- 15:01So, um,
- 15:03Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:04I went to BJ's and they have
- 15:07like pre-made chicken and steak stuff.
- 15:11And I just brought those
- 15:12home and cooked them up.
- 15:13Yeah.
- 15:14Awesome.
- 15:15Nutrition last week looks
- 15:17pretty darn good.
- 15:19I'm seeing plenty of veggies,
- 15:21a pretty good amount of balance.
- 15:22Looks like maybe you made
- 15:23like a stew on or beef
- 15:26stroganoff on Thursday.
- 15:28So my wife actually cooked that night.
- 15:31She made steak tips.
- 15:33Okay.
- 15:34Yeah.
- 15:34Gotcha.
- 15:35That looks good.
- 15:37Um, overall, uh,
- 15:39the only days that I was
- 15:41curious about was what was
- 15:42Friday night date night?
- 15:45No, no, we ate in.
- 15:47Okay.
- 15:48Did you guys order in?
- 15:50No.
- 15:50No.
- 15:54Cause we ate out on Sunday.
- 15:55We had our date nights date day Sunday.
- 15:58It was so beautiful here.
- 15:59Yeah.
- 16:01Sunday was the summer social.
- 16:03Did you go to the summer social?
- 16:04That was Friday night.
- 16:05Okay,
- 16:06so you didn't have any food logged on
- 16:07Friday night.
- 16:07Was that why?
- 16:09No, because I ate before I went.
- 16:11Okay.
- 16:12I had a food log that night.
- 16:14I gotcha.
- 16:16It would have been one of
- 16:17the meats I cooked and
- 16:18probably some broccoli or asparagus.
- 16:20Yep.
- 16:21And then you had barbecue, looks like.
- 16:23Maybe did you smoke some
- 16:24pork this weekend?
- 16:26I did.
- 16:26Yeah.
- 16:28It's that time of year.
- 16:30Barbecues are out.
- 16:32Girls are out.
- 16:33And then what did y'all do
- 16:34for your date night on Sunday?
- 16:37So we went to the dog park
- 16:39and we just grabbed a
- 16:41couple of subs and went and
- 16:44chilled by the lake.
- 16:45Nice.
- 16:46Because our dog park is
- 16:47right by the lake and just
- 16:49kind of hung out.
- 16:50Water makes my wife feel
- 16:52better just when she's around it.
- 16:54It just eases her.
- 16:56So we just kind of hung out
- 16:58and enjoyed watching the boats go by.
- 17:00That's funny because my dad,
- 17:03my dad and my mom,
- 17:04they both love to go by the
- 17:05lake and just kind of chill out.
- 17:07So that's awesome theory.
- 17:08Well, you guys do that as well.
- 17:10So, all right.
- 17:12So nutrition looks really good.
- 17:13I don't have any weigh-ins
- 17:14since prior to semis.
- 17:19So is there a little bit of
- 17:21scale avoidance?
- 17:22It's okay if there is.
- 17:23I think there is because of the, the,
- 17:27just the judgment stuff
- 17:28that came from semis and I
- 17:30just didn't have it in me, but it's,
- 17:33I'm starting to get past that.
- 17:34Talking about it last week was better.
- 17:36Yeah.
- 17:38Yeah.
- 17:39Well, at the end of the day,
- 17:40just so you know,
- 17:41like as much as you and I
- 17:42can talk about the scale,
- 17:44nobody on the show needs to
- 17:46know what's going on with the scale.
- 17:47So like, we don't, you know,
- 17:48that's something that
- 17:50that's wherever you're at,
- 17:52we share what you feel
- 17:53comfortable sharing and
- 17:53that's full transparency.
- 17:55Everybody watching this show
- 17:56goes through the same thing.
- 17:58And I think that just like everybody else,
- 18:01you deserve that right to go say like,
- 18:02hey, right now,
- 18:03like I'm showing my coach the scale,
- 18:05but like we don't need to
- 18:06talk about it online.
- 18:07Like it's okay sometimes to do that.
- 18:10That's also like, I mean,
- 18:12nobody wants to be like, oh,
- 18:13I don't feel great about
- 18:14myself right now.
- 18:15I don't want to be like
- 18:16putting it out there.
- 18:16That's okay.
- 18:17This journey isn't about the scale.
- 18:19This journey is about changing a person.
- 18:22And, you know,
- 18:22part of that is also being like, hey,
- 18:25you know what, like,
- 18:26Just because you don't make
- 18:27scale movement doesn't mean
- 18:28that you're a failure.
- 18:29That's not something that we
- 18:31have to measure progress on
- 18:33in terms of your worth.
- 18:34It just helps us know, all right,
- 18:37things are in a good place.
- 18:38Things are needing to be
- 18:39adjusted or whatnot.
- 18:42My biggest concern actually
- 18:44since last week has been my blood sugar.
- 18:47Because of all the stresses
- 18:48that are going on in my personal life,
- 18:51it spiked again.
- 18:52And so now it's slowly coming back down.
- 18:56And now I'm back under 120 again.
- 19:01But it's just amazing how
- 19:03like a little bit of stress
- 19:05spikes that up.
- 19:06Yeah.
- 19:07Yeah.
- 19:08It's that,
- 19:10but also I'm also sensing a
- 19:14little bit of sinus-y stuff too.
- 19:17And I think that last week
- 19:19there might've been a
- 19:21little something too.
- 19:25I definitely had allergy
- 19:26stuff in Knoxville.
- 19:27The only reason I'm saying
- 19:29that is because also
- 19:30infection can spike your blood sugar.
- 19:33So just be careful that a
- 19:36little allergy doesn't end
- 19:37up becoming something more.
- 19:41And then also why it's
- 19:42important to make sure
- 19:43that... Blood sugar can...
- 19:45Not blood sugar.
- 19:49you know, knowing that you,
- 19:51I think you likely,
- 19:52like after our conversation,
- 19:53it sounds like you were
- 19:54making the best choices at semifinals.
- 19:57So I wouldn't say that the
- 19:58foods you were consuming
- 19:59were like spiking your blood sugar.
- 20:01So,
- 20:02and you're back on track with everything.
- 20:04The other thing to ask about is when we,
- 20:08what else, and I'm gonna, I know,
- 20:10but what else likely hasn't
- 20:12been the same over the last,
- 20:14call it three or four weeks?
- 20:20Probably sleep.
- 20:22Yeah.
- 20:22I'm going to think of something else.
- 20:29I don't know.
- 20:29You got me stumped.
- 20:30All right.
- 20:31Have your workouts been a
- 20:33little bit less consistent?
- 20:36Thinking about it, like not on purpose,
- 20:38like the traveling, being in the car more,
- 20:41all that stuff,
- 20:42like coming back and the back thing, like,
- 20:45you know,
- 20:47Yeah,
- 20:47definitely less consistent during
- 20:50that weekend.
- 20:51Yeah.
- 20:52Yeah.
- 20:53And I like the lead up to it
- 20:54in the week after, like, that's okay.
- 20:57It's okay.
- 20:57Like, you know,
- 20:58like my workouts were a little off.
- 20:59I wasn't as consistent in
- 21:00the gym and those things
- 21:04are going to impact blood sugar.
- 21:06You know,
- 21:07you're going to make yourself
- 21:08more insulin sensitive by walking more,
- 21:10moving more, the high intensity training,
- 21:12all that stuff.
- 21:13So, um,
- 21:15what have you gotten in any
- 21:16workouts yet this week?
- 21:18Uh, yeah.
- 21:19All right, cool.
- 21:19What did you do so far this week?
- 21:21Did you work out Sunday?
- 21:22No, right?
- 21:22Because it was dog park day.
- 21:25So it started on Saturday and I did it.
- 21:27This was all home.
- 21:28I moved 25,
- 21:3050 pound bags of dirt to my backyard,
- 21:34unloaded them all to get
- 21:35rid of the ditch so I can
- 21:38get my patio level.
- 21:41And that's what I consider
- 21:42my workout on Saturday.
- 21:43And I was, that was intense.
- 21:46And then I went in,
- 21:47I went to the garage
- 21:49yesterday and did a workout at lunch.
- 21:53And that was great.
- 21:55Today is my day off always.
- 21:58And then, then the rest of the week,
- 22:02my mom's going to be here.
- 22:03So I'll have a car that I
- 22:05can run down to the gym.
- 22:07Awesome.
- 22:07So what was your workout yesterday?
- 22:10Just something,
- 22:12everything is usually echo
- 22:13bike or assault bike.
- 22:16I did some ring rows,
- 22:17some pushups and some air squats.
- 22:20Was it like a circuit?
- 22:23Like what was the workout?
- 22:25Yeah, I was doing intervals.
- 22:27So I was trying to get a minute.
- 22:31I was doing 10 calories a minute.
- 22:33I was doing 10 air squats a minute.
- 22:36I was doing 10 ring rows a minute.
- 22:38I was doing 10 pushups.
- 22:39It's like an EMOM.
- 22:40Yeah.
- 22:41Gotcha.
- 22:42How long did you go for?
- 22:43I went for 20 minutes.
- 22:45Okay.
- 22:45So about five rounds?
- 22:47Yep.
- 22:48How'd that feel?
- 22:51The pushups went away pretty fast.
- 22:53Had to go to my knees.
- 22:54But other than that, it went really well.
- 22:58Okay.
- 22:58And you're thinking about
- 22:59getting into the gym tomorrow?
- 23:01Yeah.
- 23:01If my mom gets here in time,
- 23:02then I'll have a car.
- 23:03Okay.
- 23:05Otherwise,
- 23:05why don't you ever just...
- 23:06Doesn't Polaris or...
- 23:10I've asked,
- 23:10do they like post the workouts?
- 23:13They do.
- 23:14You just don't like doing them at home.
- 23:15I don't have the equipment to do it.
- 23:17Yeah.
- 23:18I'm all about like trying to
- 23:19find a way to like, just to kind of,
- 23:21I'll just do this instead
- 23:22of that or whatever.
- 23:23But yeah.
- 23:24Um, I was just, cause I do what they say.
- 23:27Yeah.
- 23:28These are just are always
- 23:29like a crapshoot with what they have.
- 23:31Yeah.
- 23:32I'm, uh,
- 23:32I'm looking back at some of the
- 23:33comments that I missed.
- 23:34I, I, I kind of want to go back to this.
- 23:37Um, who was it?
- 23:38Trish mentioned, uh,
- 23:40Should I log my Metamucil?
- 23:43I don't know if that was
- 23:44supposed to be a joke or if
- 23:45she's actually being serious.
- 23:47So I'm going to answer it.
- 23:48With Trish, you never know.
- 23:50Well, the answer is yes, you should be.
- 23:53There is carbs in it.
- 23:54The truth is it probably is
- 23:58going to have a minimal
- 23:59impact on your results if
- 24:00you're logging your Metamucil or not.
- 24:03I mean, technically there's, I think,
- 24:05six or seven carbs in a
- 24:07scoop of Metamucil.
- 24:10I don't think it's that big a deal.
- 24:13And as Damien says, eat real fiber.
- 24:15I 100% agree.
- 24:16I don't believe in fiber supplements.
- 24:18They're essentially, it's a bandaid.
- 24:21It's not really doing what
- 24:22you need it to do.
- 24:24You should really be eating
- 24:26your fiber intake.
- 24:28Sarah Cooper,
- 24:29did you make sure you hit
- 24:30that bell so that it
- 24:32notifies you every time we go live?
- 24:34Yeah.
- 24:34You should do that.
- 24:36Definitely should.
- 24:37Maybe while you're there,
- 24:38hit the like button.
- 24:39Yeah.
- 24:40Maybe hit the subscribe.
- 24:42Yeah.
- 24:42Those things.
- 24:43Yeah.
- 24:43Sarah, I'm going to also tell you,
- 24:46Sarah mentioned you can go
- 24:47check mayhem crash.
- 24:48I don't.
- 24:49I'll be honest.
- 24:50I actually kind of discouraged that.
- 24:52That's why I asked him, like,
- 24:53do you just have the IBEX
- 24:55and just kind of modify?
- 24:56Because I honestly think
- 24:57that sometimes going and
- 24:59finding random workouts
- 25:00ends up becoming more stressful.
- 25:02Like if you're like me,
- 25:03you'll look at the five
- 25:04different things and then
- 25:05you're trying to decide
- 25:06what you want to do.
- 25:06And then before you know,
- 25:07you've wasted 30 minutes
- 25:08trying to figure out what the hell to do.
- 25:10And honestly, most days I do Ibex.
- 25:13Yeah.
- 25:14It's most of their stuff is
- 25:16very straightforward.
- 25:17Mondays are just a crapshoot
- 25:19of what you get.
- 25:20Yep.
- 25:20And it's just, it's just easy.
- 25:22Cause usually it has a rack
- 25:23in it and I don't have a rack.
- 25:25I don't have a couple of things.
- 25:27I don't have a bench.
- 25:29Yeah.
- 25:29There are some things like I
- 25:30don't have that.
- 25:31I just.
- 25:32Well,
- 25:32the good thing is for you that like
- 25:34if Monday, you know,
- 25:37like what days ideally
- 25:38would you like to go to the gym?
- 25:41So I'd like to go Monday, Wednesday,
- 25:43Thursday, Friday.
- 25:44Yeah.
- 25:45But ideally with your schedule,
- 25:47how many days can you
- 25:48actually get into the gym?
- 25:49Well, that, if I had a car,
- 25:51that's where I would go.
- 25:52But right now,
- 25:53are you able to really commit to that?
- 25:56Well,
- 25:56I can't commit to anything unless I
- 25:58have a car.
- 25:59And so that all depends on
- 26:01if my wife works from home or not.
- 26:03And I don't know that schedule.
- 26:04She doesn't know that schedule.
- 26:06Maybe what we need to do in
- 26:08the short term is get you
- 26:10following some programming
- 26:11that I provide for you.
- 26:12This way you're at least
- 26:13doing something consistently every week.
- 26:15that might help you a little bit.
- 26:16I mean,
- 26:16I really like three days of the
- 26:18week I'm following Ibex.
- 26:20Yeah.
- 26:20So Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
- 26:23I follow Ibex.
- 26:24Okay.
- 26:24It's just Monday that I
- 26:25usually don't have the
- 26:26equipment that they have.
- 26:27Gotcha.
- 26:28All right.
- 26:28If you want to shoot me
- 26:29something on Mondays, I would be glad.
- 26:30Well, that's what I was thinking.
- 26:31Maybe we do like a,
- 26:32maybe Mondays can be like,
- 26:33I know for a while we were
- 26:34doing like a monthly challenge.
- 26:36Maybe we won't do like a
- 26:37monthly challenge.
- 26:37We'll just do like Monday might be like a,
- 26:39a mono Monday.
- 26:40Okay.
- 26:41monostructural monday work
- 26:42on your aerobic capacity um
- 26:44maybe some body weight
- 26:45stuff and just kind of give
- 26:46you like a a longer move
- 26:48grind session because you
- 26:49rest on tuesday anyways so
- 26:51it's not like it's going to
- 26:52affect the rest of the week
- 26:54you'll be recovered from it
- 26:55so and I pay for ibex so
- 26:57like and I love their
- 26:59programming yeah just
- 27:01monday it's it always seems
- 27:02to have a bench or
- 27:04something that I don't have
- 27:06yeah I gotcha or needs a
- 27:08rack or something
- 27:10All right.
- 27:10So this week so far, I mean, I've got one,
- 27:13two,
- 27:14I've got a semi good food log from
- 27:16last week.
- 27:17I think really we need a few
- 27:18more days before kind of
- 27:20doing any kind of adjusting or anything.
- 27:22How's your appetite so far
- 27:23this week with being back
- 27:24on track with things?
- 27:27I know today it's a little
- 27:28off from the sign overall.
- 27:30I would say like, I'm not,
- 27:33I'm not really hungry.
- 27:37But I'm not like, I'm not,
- 27:41like lethargic about it like
- 27:43every couple hours I want
- 27:45to eat something but it's
- 27:46not like I'm dying to eat
- 27:48okay all right I mean and
- 27:51right now calorically
- 27:52you're in a pretty good
- 27:53spot but you you know like
- 27:54I said you getting back
- 27:56into the gym and all that
- 27:57you might start to pick up
- 27:58a little bit as your
- 27:59intensity improves
- 28:00increases this week with
- 28:01things so just keep me
- 28:03posted on that like right
- 28:04now calorically like I said
- 28:06you really had you know a
- 28:08couple of days where like
- 28:09Probably Friday night was
- 28:10probably routine.
- 28:11Sunday was your date, Dan,
- 28:12and have anything logged that day.
- 28:14But everything else,
- 28:15the only real low day you
- 28:17had was on Saturday,
- 28:19which I'm just going to assume,
- 28:20like you mentioned,
- 28:21you wake up a little later that day.
- 28:24But everything else was pretty good.
- 28:26Fiber intake is decent.
- 28:28You're getting some veggies in.
- 28:30I feel like this week it's
- 28:31all about the consistency game,
- 28:34the boring work.
- 28:35Anything coming up this weekend?
- 28:37Yeah, big stuff this weekend.
- 28:40I'm taking my mom to the U S
- 28:42Olympic trials.
- 28:43That's awesome.
- 28:45Swimming in Indianapolis, Indiana.
- 28:47That's awesome.
- 28:48So how far of a drive is that?
- 28:50Oh, like two and a half hours.
- 28:52Okay.
- 28:52And what day is that?
- 28:54Saturday.
- 28:55Is that going to be an overnight thing or?
- 28:57Probably overnight Saturday.
- 28:58We'll probably leave early in the morning,
- 29:02Saturday morning.
- 29:03Head over.
- 29:05The prelims start at 11.
- 29:07Doors open at 10.
- 29:09And we'll watch prelims.
- 29:10Those are done at 1.
- 29:11Have to leave.
- 29:12Come back at 6.30.
- 29:14Can go and then watch the
- 29:15finals for that night.
- 29:16Okay.
- 29:18So what's your plan
- 29:18nutritionally for this weekend?
- 29:22so I'm probably gonna be
- 29:24eating out but I'll just
- 29:25make good choices eating
- 29:26out um and we'll probably
- 29:28leave early sunday morning
- 29:29to get back so I'll be back
- 29:32in my house by noon I think
- 29:34you should maybe plan to
- 29:37have a breakfast I mean are
- 29:38you at a hotel yeah yeah
- 29:41well I'll get a hotel with
- 29:42a breakfast probably included
- 29:44Yeah.
- 29:44That,
- 29:45or like just bring some protein powder,
- 29:47bring some oatmeal.
- 29:48Like if you're in a car,
- 29:49I would say just pack a
- 29:51breakfast so you don't have
- 29:52to stress about it.
- 29:53And, um, you know,
- 29:55then obviously then you're
- 29:56really just worried about
- 29:57lunch and dinner on Saturday.
- 29:59And I know your mom is
- 30:00health conscious too.
- 30:02You know, another, another tip guys is
- 30:05I'm all about,
- 30:06I saw a recent Instagram
- 30:08reel and it was like,
- 30:09there should be a refund
- 30:10for calories that you
- 30:11ingest that really aren't worth it.
- 30:13And I feel like when you
- 30:15have to eat out because
- 30:16it's so calorically expensive,
- 30:19you should like look at
- 30:20where you're going now ahead of time.
- 30:22the area scope it out and
- 30:24look for like a couple of
- 30:25places that you might want
- 30:26to try um that you and your
- 30:28mom would both enjoy and
- 30:29kind of have a plan this
- 30:31way you can look at the
- 30:32menu ahead of time you can
- 30:34kind of figure out if
- 30:35there's anything on the
- 30:36menu that you want to have
- 30:37you know or if you're going
- 30:38to be eating at the venue
- 30:39sometimes you can go on the
- 30:40venue on the the host
- 30:42location and you can kind
- 30:43of take a look at what they
- 30:44might have available and
- 30:45like oh I know what I'm going to get
- 30:47Cause otherwise it's going
- 30:47to happen is you're going
- 30:48to be at the freaking convenience stand,
- 30:50getting a hot dog and freaking nachos.
- 30:52That's all they have there.
- 30:53You know, like, you know, that's like,
- 30:55you're going to be like,
- 30:56that was the worst idea ever.
- 30:58The worst waste of calories.
- 30:59I mean, every once in a while,
- 31:00a hot dog is good.
- 31:01I can actually tell you,
- 31:02haven't had a hot dog in a long year,
- 31:04a lot of years,
- 31:04but actually sounds pretty
- 31:06darn good right about now though.
- 31:07Isn't that weird?
- 31:09As I mentioned, a hot dog.
- 31:11You know what?
- 31:11Like there's certain foods
- 31:12right now that just,
- 31:14they just turn my stomach.
- 31:15Yeah.
- 31:19And sometimes I'm in a mood for a hot dog.
- 31:20Today is not that day.
- 31:22No, I know.
- 31:22But I'm just like,
- 31:23all I'm picturing is like, you know,
- 31:26that's what the convenience stands.
- 31:28It's like pretzels and hot
- 31:29dogs and nachos and cheese.
- 31:31See, pretzels are my downfall.
- 31:33Yeah.
- 31:33I love a good hot dog.
- 31:37You know,
- 31:37that might be something that like
- 31:38you're like, OK, when I'm at the venue,
- 31:40they're probably going to have snacks.
- 31:42I want to get a pretzel.
- 31:43You log that pretzel now ahead of time and,
- 31:46you know,
- 31:46like maybe make your breakfast
- 31:49more like lower carb, higher protein.
- 31:51It's going to keep you full longer.
- 31:53Get some veggies in maybe in
- 31:54the morning and then like, you know, yeah,
- 31:56enjoy your pretzel.
- 31:58Have like a balanced lunch
- 31:59and balanced dinner and be good,
- 32:00you know.
- 32:02Yeah,
- 32:02I'd rather go to a restaurant and get
- 32:03a good one, though,
- 32:04than those ones at the arena.
- 32:08Yeah.
- 32:08Pretzels are actually not a
- 32:09bad food either.
- 32:10They're pretty healthy.
- 32:12I mean, it's just carbs.
- 32:13I mean,
- 32:15there's not a bunch of fat in them.
- 32:16They're not deep fried or
- 32:17anything like that.
- 32:18It's really the toppings
- 32:20that go on them that can
- 32:21sometimes get people.
- 32:23Yeah.
- 32:24If it's good, it doesn't need any topping.
- 32:26Growing up, I remember.
- 32:29Mustard has nothing in it.
- 32:30yeah growing up I just
- 32:32remember we used to always
- 32:33have those pretzels in the
- 32:34freezer the soft pretzels
- 32:37and it came with that
- 32:38little packet of salt and
- 32:39you would have to like get
- 32:41it wet and then like put
- 32:41the salt on it that's all I
- 32:43remember growing up as a
- 32:44kid I used to love those
- 32:46and you're like those are
- 32:47trash cheryl those are
- 32:48trash they are so but yeah
- 32:51I loved them when I was a kid but yeah
- 32:54um so I feel like this week
- 32:57I want to have a weigh-in
- 32:58before I'd like to get a
- 33:00couple of weigh-ins get me
- 33:01a couple wins again don't
- 33:03have to share with anybody
- 33:04we just want to see where
- 33:04we're at average wise um
- 33:07and let's let's give it a
- 33:08few weeks before we
- 33:09actually give any weight updates
- 33:11don't need to give weight
- 33:12updates right now it's not
- 33:13relevant like that's that's
- 33:15the result it's not the
- 33:16actions like I want to see
- 33:18you taking action so you're
- 33:19going to weigh yourself
- 33:19because you're going to get
- 33:20back to the routine this
- 33:21weekend I'd like to have no
- 33:23missed days of tracking I
- 33:25would even if you're like I
- 33:27got to go back in and track
- 33:28that like and I think going
- 33:29back to the food tracking I
- 33:30think the other reason why
- 33:31people forget is
- 33:34Think of tracking food kind
- 33:36of like tracking your money.
- 33:38Like how frequently are
- 33:39people writing down
- 33:40everything that they spend?
- 33:42And so it's like,
- 33:43it's not a natural thing to
- 33:45track your food, right?
- 33:47So like it is something that
- 33:48requires a little bit of thought.
- 33:49And the thing is maybe just
- 33:50like before the end of the day closes out,
- 33:53just to remind yourself to
- 33:54get in that app and make
- 33:55sure that you've tracked it for me.
- 33:57Sorry, I keep hitting my light switch.
- 34:00So, but.
- 34:02We're at Cheryl's discotheque.
- 34:04Yeah.
- 34:05Funny dollar cover.
- 34:06Yeah.
- 34:07Seriously.
- 34:08No,
- 34:08I think overall things are in a good
- 34:10spot.
- 34:10I'm hopeful that you guys
- 34:11are going to have a good,
- 34:12good time this weekend.
- 34:13That sounds exciting.
- 34:15Yeah.
- 34:15Super excited about it.
- 34:16It's the first time I've
- 34:17been to watch a swim meet in a long time.
- 34:20That's awesome.
- 34:21Yeah.
- 34:22So yeah.
- 34:25Sarah says I always research ahead,
- 34:27but just because I love food.
- 34:28Yeah, you should, man.
- 34:29There's nothing wrong with like looking,
- 34:32look, look it up.
- 34:33Like,
- 34:33You know, because it makes,
- 34:35when you're in the moment, it's,
- 34:37even if you don't know
- 34:39exactly what you're gonna have,
- 34:40having a loose idea and
- 34:42then deciding when you get
- 34:43there is awesome.
- 34:45You know,
- 34:45that's really like the best way
- 34:49to be successful.
- 34:49I think people think that
- 34:50they have to eliminate
- 34:51eating out and enjoying
- 34:53food when they're trying to
- 34:54lose weight and you don't.
- 34:56You just have to understand calorie wise,
- 34:58like what you're eating and
- 35:00that's where people go wrong.
- 35:02You know,
- 35:02if you're eating the appetizers
- 35:04and the drinks and the food and,
- 35:07and the bread and the butter,
- 35:08and you're not taking a
- 35:09look at the calories that
- 35:10you're consuming.
- 35:11it adds up very, very, very quickly.
- 35:14In fact, in my Facebook group last week,
- 35:16I made literally a, a this versus that,
- 35:18like, you know,
- 35:20thinks that you're being good,
- 35:21thinks that you're being bad.
- 35:23People go out for like
- 35:24avocado toast in the
- 35:25morning and they're like,
- 35:25this is a healthy breakfast.
- 35:27And they're eating over a
- 35:28thousand calories just at breakfast.
- 35:30And it's like two slices of
- 35:31bread and they don't even realize it,
- 35:33you know?
- 35:33So, um, it's important to kind of,
- 35:36to look at that.
- 35:37And, um,
- 35:39My fitness pal Sarah
- 35:40mentioned does have a lot of options,
- 35:42but I'll be honest.
- 35:43I don't like super trust, um, the entries.
- 35:47I always like look online.
- 35:49I always look at the
- 35:50websites or I'll look at, um, uh,
- 35:53there's a website called
- 35:54nutritionics or calorie
- 35:56friend that both have
- 35:58pretty good ideas of
- 36:00calories and macros of the
- 36:02foods that you're consuming.
- 36:04I like the calorie friend
- 36:05one because it actually
- 36:06shows you portion sizes,
- 36:07which is really cool.
- 36:09Like it,
- 36:09it'll like show you a plate of
- 36:11nachos and like about how
- 36:12many calories is in that serving size.
- 36:14And like, you can see it visually,
- 36:16which helps people that are
- 36:18trying to visualize is that
- 36:20about this much or that
- 36:21much makes it easier.
- 36:22So a little bit of tips.
- 36:28Cool.
- 36:28Judy mentions that some of
- 36:30the salads at restaurants
- 36:31have more calories than steak and 100%.
- 36:36It's ridiculous.
- 36:38People think they're making
- 36:39a healthy choice and then a
- 36:40thousand calories later,
- 36:41they should have had the pizza.
- 36:43Like it's that, it's that bad, you know,
- 36:45people, and it's hard.
- 36:46I mean,
- 36:46obviously you're getting more nutrients,
- 36:49but sometimes it's like, I had, in fact,
- 36:51one of my clients,
- 36:52she went out and had like a
- 36:53Italian salad.
- 36:54It had like goat cheese and
- 36:56some feta or goat cheese
- 36:57and chicken and balsamic and some nuts.
- 37:00It was just like,
- 37:01it was a delicious looking
- 37:02salad and she really wanted pizza.
- 37:04And when we added up the fat in the salad,
- 37:07it was like over 70 grams.
- 37:08And I'm like,
- 37:09probably should have just had the pizza,
- 37:11but.
- 37:12yeah yeah I uh what what's
- 37:14the saying no good story
- 37:15ever started with a salad I
- 37:17don't know I guess that's a
- 37:19story but anyways I think
- 37:22you're doing awesome this
- 37:23week so I think the main
- 37:23thing this weekend is to
- 37:24have a good time you know
- 37:26make some memories with
- 37:27your mama and uh and let's
- 37:30be consistent this week with everything
- 37:32Okay.
- 37:34Sounds good.
- 37:35I think I'd like to explore this next week,
- 37:39but just put it in your ear now.
- 37:40And I was,
- 37:41I was listening to a podcast today.
- 37:43It was about goal setting.
- 37:45Yep.
- 37:45Should you set the goal?
- 37:49So it's a realistic reach or
- 37:51should you set the goal for the moon?
- 37:54And if you fall off,
- 37:55you fall off in the stars.
- 37:57How about we do this?
- 37:59I would love this.
- 38:01Let's make next week a topic
- 38:02discussion and let's talk
- 38:04about goal setting because
- 38:06right now I could go into a
- 38:08whole discussion on goal setting,
- 38:11but it would be another 40 minute topic.
- 38:14That's what I call that.
- 38:16I think that we should,
- 38:17because I think a lot of people,
- 38:21And I made a post today on social media.
- 38:23And if you follow me on Instagram,
- 38:26basically talking about
- 38:27like the biggest fat loss
- 38:28mistake people make.
- 38:29And it's really,
- 38:30it comes down to people
- 38:32focus so much on the goal.
- 38:35And the result and not
- 38:37enough on the actions.
- 38:39And as much as it's
- 38:41important to have a goal,
- 38:42I'm going to leave you out with this.
- 38:43It's really important to
- 38:44understand that
- 38:45expectations on results
- 38:48have to also line up with
- 38:49expectations on effort.
- 38:51And so when we talk about setting goals,
- 38:53something that I want to talk about is,
- 38:55is how to make realistic
- 38:56goals happen for you and,
- 38:59and not feel like you're
- 39:00constantly chasing
- 39:02something and getting nowhere fast.
- 39:06So, okay.
- 39:09With that,
- 39:10thank you everybody for being
- 39:11here and we will see you
- 39:13all next time on Clydesdale media.
- 39:15We media weight loss story.
- 39:18Yeah.
- 39:18I talk for a living.
