Transcript
- Mark: Hey Jack, before we start, quick question. How many ten year olds could you take out in a fight if they were all fighting you at once? You're unarmed, they're unarmed, they all attack at once, and you can't escape. And so you're either overwhelmed, fatigued, or dead. How many you reckon you can take? All of all of the ten year olds. Jack: All of them. All of the ten year olds. Mark: Well, you take the first one out and Jack: Just use that body as the weapon for the rest of them. Mark: Of course, of course, mate. Too easy. Jack: You know that scene in the Matrix where he like runs around the pole? Mark: Definitely. Alright, welcome back to Fairweather Friday. Now we've discussed Jack taking on as many ten year olds as he can. I'm Mark, that's Jack, and before we start, we just need to clear up something from last week. So I've listened to the podcast that we did last week that we released and I've realised something, mate. I'm Jack: Mm-hmm. Mark: actually a lot funnier than you. Jack: I don't know, funny is the key word, but definitely louder. I did discover that I am very quiet, so hopefully the little adjustments I've made has fixed that. Mark: Look, being a pussy does help you be quiet, I suppose, I think. Jack: Like I just need to put my man pants on and speak up a bit, Mark: Definitely. Alright everyone, welcome back to Fairweather Friday. This is episode two. How do you feel about episode one? Jack: I feel pretty good about it actually. yeah, first shot at it, I think it went pretty well, flayed pretty well. You did a good job of keeping it moving on. I did a good job of just being awesome, so. Mark: I don't know about that. I did fuck up a little bit in there. there was a few things that I think we'll do differently this week. and going forward, obviously, as I mentioned last week, we aren't professionals at this. We're just two fuckheads giving it a go, really, Jack: Emphasis on the fuckheads, but Mark: That's it. are you drinking tonight? Jack: It's bit early for that, isn't it? Stupid fucking questions. Exactly. High functioning though. Mark: What, drinking? stupid question. Yeah, of course you're drinking tonight, you're a fucking alcohol. Alright, aside from that, what have you been up to? Jack: work, work, work. yeah, supposed to be our night shift tonight actually. But here we are. Mark: Ooh, wait till the boss finds it out. Jack: Yeah, hopefully she doesn't. yeah, I have a very good reason to not be there, so that's a good start. Mark: Yeah, that's fair enough, mate. That's fair enough. do you want to talk about Monday night? Jack: Yeah. Monday night was a bit of a bit of a doozy. Well, Mark: What happened? Speaking of being an alcoholic? Jack: caught up with the boys. We went to Felons, on the river there. Mark: Felons Brewing, if you're listening, that's a sponsorship. Jack: Just a cheeky plug there for you. That's a freebie. yeah, they do a a ping pong tournament there on Monday nights. Mark: Ooh. Jack: so we thought, why not? Why Mark: Yeah, definitely. Yeah. Jack: not add a few retards to the mix of ping pong players there? look, great night, very well run. I was definitely no good, but managed to make it through the first round, got taken out the second round. But they do use some fun little games in between the rounds as well where you had to throw a ping pong ball into the the shopping basket. I managed to win that somehow. Mark: Mm. Just before you go on, do they have anyone shooting ping pongs out of their hoochies? Ooh. unfortunate. Jack: Not this time, I think. It was a little bit kid friendly this one. so maybe the next time, who knows? And Mark: Yeah, fair enough. Jack: then yeah, like you had to roll the ball down the table, lean in a cup, tape to the end of it, also won something there, so it was a good little night out. it's a good spot there on the river, so Mark: Yeah. It's a beautiful spot there at Fallons. Do they do that every Monday night or is it just like once a month type deal or Jack: I believe it's every Monday, every week. Mark: I might have to go check it out in a couple of weeks. Can't do next week but yeah, maybe the week after I might have to check it out. Jack: Hm. Yeah, it's worth having a look at. It's good fun. Mark: Yeah, look if you're going again next time. Jack: And then the knight got drunk and debaucherous after that, which is how we roll. That's Mark: On a Monday night, I love it. Normally this is a Thursday night, Friday night, Sunday night deal, but you you guys are like, Fuck this, I'm doing it on a Monday, why not? Jack: We're all shift workers, so yeah. It was our Saturday, really. Mark: Yeah, fair cool. Yeah, right. well let's move on then. the golf audit. This is something that we've we've we started last week and I think it's a it's a great little great little segment to keep us in check about our own golf game and or give each other shit about our the other person's golf game. I'm gonna ask you a tough question straight off the bat this week. Jack: God. Mark: real realistically, with the amount of golf you play, what do you reckon you could get your handicap down to? Do you reckon you can get single digits with the amount you're playing at the moment? Jack: At the moment no. My goal at the start of the year was to get to ten, so I'm thirteen so I'm not far from that. Mark: Mm. Yeah. Mm, not bad, not bad. Jack: but since starting business the golf games put the handbrake on, so Mark: Yeah. Jack: yeah, I just don't think I get single digits this year. Hopefully next year. Mark: Fingers crossed, fingers crossed. Look, I think before I get to single digits I need new clubs. I'm just gonna blame the clubs straight up. It's got nothing to do with my ability or lack of playing or anything like that. It's dead set the clubs, man. More than likely. Jack: No, it's definitely the retard swinging away. Mark: all right, no next question. when we play two man Ambrose, which we do quite a bit, or as much as we can at least anyway, what shot do you trust me to hit every time? Jack: we play Ambrose fucking none of Every Mark: Ha ha ha Jack: time we play Emeros we suck at it. Mark: Yeah. Jack: Maybe a Shit on the name it. Honestly, when we play Ambrose we suck. Mark: Wow, got some We we do, we do. Look, I don't know what I don't know what it is. When we like we'll go out like that time we played Woodford, we went out a couple of weeks before and had a practice round, we both hit really good shots, really good scores. Went out and played the Ambrose. That was the Australia Daycom. And Jack: Yeah, let's see. Mark: went out and played that day and just had an absolute shit show. Now, I'm gonna say that we we died in the arse after I almost died on the course. Had a bit of I I almost died. I got a bit of heat stroke that day, if you don't remember, it was like, I don't know, forty eight degrees in the shade and fucking ninety nine percent humidity. Me being a pasty white redhead, I it got really hot. That's all I'll say about that. And I think we were about six I think we were like maybe two or three over up until the last six holes and then I just went w went downhill from there. Jack: Yeah. 'Cause then I started playing on my own 'cause you just couldn't even swing the club for a while. Mark: I I w I probably should have gone home at that point. But yeah, it was pretty bad but next one is what shot do you have the least faith in me? Jack: Ha ha. Mark: Well, the the we meant to at least have one shot, obviously now we don't have any, so Jack: Well, going back to that Woodford comp, I think we had to take a minimum of six drives from each player, and we had to take the last six of your drives because we used all mine up. So Mark: That's true. Jack: maybe your drives under pressure, but you just fold like a cheap chair. Mark: look, that's my drives. Look, I I I do have some for you. y your the Jack: Mm. Mark: shot that I trust you to take the most is anything from inside a hundred. I think we talked about this last week. That's probably your Jack: Yeah. Mark: strength at the moment, your chipping and your approach shots and stuff. I think at the moment, like last time I think we played, your putter wasn't working for you at all. So I think Jack: Ha. Mark: from a from the least faith in you from a standpoint there, I think your putter would probably have to be it. at least at the moment anyway. There there was a time where you couldn't miss a putt, say, but I don't know what's going on now. Jack: I believe I've fixed that since last time we played though, 'cause that was quite a while ago. Mark: okay. Yeah that was, yeah. Jack: but yeah, a couple of fast greens at Woodford and Midiffi I think. They were running real quick. I managed to sort that Mark: Yeah, yep. Jack: out I think, so Mark: Yeah, gotcha. next question I guess is who has the better swing? Jack: I think technically you do. You're just butt club face for you is is your biggest weakness. It's just going anywhere. But technically I think your swing is like pretty spot on. Mark: Yeah, look I I'll agree with that. I reckon I've got the better swing from a technique point of view. I just don't play enough to keep it in check. and definitely from a driving point of view, my driver's just out it's it's just shit. So which brings me to my next question, which I already know the answer. what's the one part of my game that I should change slash work on? Jack: Apart from all of it, Mark: Apart from golf itself. Jack: I like you're driving shit, we've we've spoken about that, but honestly, this is probably where the club does make a difference because it's just a straight shaft, it's like a hundred and fifty other driver. I think it was a my old one actually, when I first got back into it. Mark: Mm. It is it is, yeah. Yep. Jack: whereas, you know, the drivers that you go and get fitted for they the flex that you need in the shaft and they're all adjustable so if you've got a draw bias you can adjust it if you gotta hit it off the hossle. There's probably not much they can do about that, but at least they can put a bias in for you, you know? So it's not all just relying on you hitting that pinhead of a sweet spot in the middle of it. Mark: Yeah, look that's true. That's true. look it's it's it's a tough one, isn't it? with the driving. I I th I think, yeah, as I said last week, my my seven nine's my best best club in the bag, I reckon. Jack: Hmm. Yeah. Mark: the further you go away from that up up to your driver and stuff, it's just one l one l little millimeter out at the club face. The bull's thirty, forty metres out at the end of the end of the fairway, so Jack: Makes a huge difference. Mark: Yep. I think for you, what what part of your game should you work on? well you just said you've been working on your putting. Jack: Mm-hmm. Mark: So that would be where I would go when I when I was typing this question up earlier, I was thinking about your putting, but if you've worked on that, I guess we'll see next time we play together. Jack: Yeah, well, leading on from that, sent you a message just before Friday, early morning. Mark: I'll have to get back to you on that one, Barry. I do have a bit of w Jack: Unbelievable. Mark: I do have a bit of work on this week, which we'll talk about in a little bit. I've Jack: Yeah. Mark: got some family stuff happening on Friday as well, so just not sure I can make Friday morning. Jack: Copy. Mark: yeah. The other question of golf we I've seen this on TikTok and on Reels and stuff like that. You've probably seen it too, where they talk about you know, y I'll give you a million dollars now, but you can never play golf again. You get a hundred thousand dollars for every hole in one you make, ten thousand dollars for every eagle, a thousand dollars for every birdie. Hundred dollars for every par. You don't get anything for getting bogeys, but you lose a hundred dollars for every double bogey or worse you get. Which deal are you Jack: god. Mark: taking? I've I've got an answer for this one. But Jack: yeah. Like, I shoot a lot of pars, so I'm probably last time I played I think I did nine, ten pars, something like that, so I'm gonna go with a par. Start low. Mark: Yeah. Yeah, start low and then work up from there I suppose. I mean a hundred dollars for every par there's eighteen hundred dollars around if you par every hole. yeah, I I think I think you're probably on the money there. It's never gonna happen, but Jack: Which is never gonna happen, by the way. But Mark: hey look, even if you get out for two pars in a round, there's there's your round paid for. A couple of beers at the end as well, you're happy days, right? Yeah, I'd keep it I'd keep it there too. I'd probably go for a par. Yeah. Jack: Yeah, that's right. Yep. What do you got? Huh? Yeah. Mark: Look, I don't get many. I probably do get a couple more bogies and double bogies, but if I'm not taking that deal Jack: Hmm. Mark: I'll be right, I'll just take the one for the power. Jack: It is pretty rare for me to get a double burger these days, so I think I'm safe. Mark: Yeah, you'll probably be safe on that one. Zero dollars for a bogey though. Yeah, that's not too bad. Yeah. All Jack: Yeah, I'll take it. Mark: right. have you played any golf this week? Jack: No, I was hoping to today, this morning, but yeah. Mark: Yep. I remember you saying that, yeah. Jack: Yeah, some things happened so I didn't get to get out there this morning, but yeah, hopefully maybe Friday morning. Give it a go. Mark: Fingers crossed for you, mate, fingers crossed. I'll let you know probably tomorrow or what's yeah, tomorrow's Thursday, yeah. 'Cause today's Wednesday the Jack: Hmm. Yeah, so it it is. Mark: thirtieth. all right, let's move on to the fairway, which I'm calling Pro Golf, which is not us. did you did you get to watch much of the President's Cup? Jack: I did see a little bit of it, didn't see any of the phone around. excuse me, but it looked like a great atmosphere, that's for sure. course looked great. Everyone's up and about. Mark: Yeah. That's what I took from it as well. The first day I think we talked about this on our podcast last week, didn't we? the USA ended up winning overall. I think it was seventeen to thirteen. Jack: Yep. Mark: on Thursday, which was our Friday when we recorded it, the US went three two. Which I think I might have had that stat wrong initially, last week. Then Friday Friday was the good day that you should have watched. I only saw little bits of this Jack: Yes. Mark: as well. Friday the internationals absolutely dominated five nil. Like they they literally spun it round. Like from going three two down on the first day, five nil on the second day. That was so good. But that's sort of where it ended. Jack: Well, Saturday still wasn't too bad. They still took a lead into the the Sunday, but look I think those the USA players are just so good, right? you Mark: I yeah. Jack: know, European players are dominating it at the moment, which is done in the Ryder Cup. but yeah, those USA players are just so good. Mark: Yeah, well look, the stat here at at the moment is that after this year's victory, America have fourteen wins, one loss and one tie in the President's Cup. But if you the Ryder Cup's completely different, which I love the Ryder Cup, the atmosphere Jack: yeah. Hmm. Mark: there would be insane to go to. Jack: Mm. Mark: I think it'd be awesome to be able to get to one. which I've got a question for you later on similar to that too, so keep that in mind. Jack: Okay. Mark: yeah, the the one thing I want to talk about out of the Ryder Cup. sorry not the right cup, the presence cup that really got to me the other day was I d you probably saw it, it was all over the news, all over TikTok, reels, whatever you whatever you got, was Scotty Scheffler versus Nico. one of the spectators yelled out something, I can't remember what he said, during Nico's backswing. Scotty apparently confronted the person and said, No, there's no place for that here. and then like Nico tried to get back into the game after that and basically Scotty conceded his thirty foot putt. to allow him to allow him a par for that for that hole. Which I think is great sportsmanship. He didn't have to do that. He could have just absolutely gone in and just trounced him on that. He still won two one anyway at Jack: Yeah. Mark: the end of the round, but you know, if he hadn't a done that it would have been yeah, would have been a bit different. But, you know, Scotty Jack: Yeah. Mark: it just shows w it's a gentleman's sport still. you know, even though they're out there on their own Yeah, at times, yeah. So Jack: At times, yeah. Yeah. yeah, I did see that and I think the person in the crowd yell out goes Scotty just as he's coming down in his swing. Mark: Yeah, okay. Jack: so, you know, no harm, no foul. It scored apart at the end of it thanks to Scotty's sportsmanship, so you know, you you do see it a little bit, in the pro golf, especially not so much the majors, but you do see it a little bit. like the Phoenix Open with their party hole. you see a bit of carry on going on there but you know, good on Scotty for backing it up, like world number one. He could have just gone, we'll just charge on with this but Mark: definitely. He he a hundred percent could have, but you know, the sportsmanship is where it comes out I suppose at the end of the day. you know, these guys spent a lot of time on tour together, so you know doing something like that may have may pay back later on for Scotty down the track. So I Jack: Yeah. Good on him. Mark: I think it was great too. I think it was a yeah, a great little thing to have. in there. what else is going on in golf at the moment? the other thing as well that I I I don't know, I think it was on the D P World Tour. I don't know if you saw it. Jack: Mm-hmm. Mark: wasn't Lee Westwood, what's his name? Tommy Fleetwood. Jack: Yeah, I didn't say this. Mark: he basically th he was on the green, ready to part. He only had like a maybe a two foot putt, whatever it was, and someone's hit the green. the ball's rod on. And then he's just literally just pulled up onto his toes, let the ball run under his feet, popped back down, sung his part from there. It was pretty cool. Yeah, he literally did, yeah. Yep. It was actually really cool. I thought it was awesome. So Jack: Done a Michael Jackson on it. I'll have to check that one out. Mark: Yeah, I'll s I'll just try and send it to you after this, so if it if anyone hasn't seen it, definitely jump on. Tommy Fleetwood. does Michael Jackson move or whatever you wanna whatever you wanna Google. It was pretty cool. He's just literally just popped up on his toes, jumped back down. Yeah. Happy days. Jack: And just for anyone interested, the next PJ event is this weekend, first to the fourth of October at the Black Desert Golf Course. Mark: Ooh, that'll be good. Tune in. Jack: I believe now don't hate me for saying this, but I think this is the one that was in high school musical. Ha ha ha Mark: How do you know that? Jack: well, that's gonna be a long story, but basically some Mark: Ha ha ha. Jack: girls from work were watching it last year I believe, and some girls from Mark: Girls from Jack: work are like, my god, that's the one out of high school musical And then had to learn what high school musical was. Mark: And then you kept watching and watching and watching and enjoyed it. Yeah. Nothing like a little bit of young Zach Efron, right? Jack: Yeah. Of course. Who doesn't? Exactly. Mark: too funny. All right, we've got move on from golf now. let's get into the locker room. There's been so much football action around around Australia at the moment. and what can we say? Lions. Three peat, they did it. the last time they did this was Jack: What a win, Tony. Mark: twenty two thousand and one to two thousand two thousand and three. They did the first three peat there. Followed up now. What a great ending to the game. Like I tuned in a little bit at the start and basically from second from the third quarter I sat down and watched it the for the rest of the way. I thought four minutes to go, Frio were up like seventeen points or something like that. two minutes to go they I think it like no, maybe three minutes to go they they did that wolfy time thing. And then you can just saw it didn't w Jack: How did that go for Mark: it didn't work at all. You saw Brisman just lift their game at that point and just come back and just you know, absolutely smash into the end and what a great game though. Jack: I read that that Ashcroft had like eight disposals in the last four minutes and three of them led to goals. So like he just had a blinding last four minutes. And yeah, that Wharfy time I think is dead and buried. I don't think they're ever gonna pull that out ever again. Mark: No, I I was talking to to someone after the game, who's who's a big AFL fan. Obviously we aren't. this is probably the most AFL that I've watched in my life out of this game. And they basically said that Warfy time was meant to they did it originally to get the Fremantle team, you know, a little bit of extra energy. You know, it's sort of like Jack: Mm. Mark: the NRL, when Gallon was playing and everyone just booed Gallon, it just set everybody else up, ready to go. So it was sort of Jack: Yeah. Mark: like the Worfie time for Freo to get them up and running and stuff like that, but Over the last year a lot of the coaches have said to the teams, every time you hear Wolfie time, Go harder. Use this as your time to step up and Brisbane did exactly that. So I thought it was brilliant. Jack: And what a win. Like I would have been happy either way to be honest, 'cause Mark: Yeah. Hmm. Jack: like I did live in WA for a while. But yeah, what a bloody win. We're sitting here watching that last quarter. I'm like, it's gone, you know, they've lost it and my partner's from Victoria, she goes, No, it's not over yet so and Mark: Ha ha. Jack: yeah, make big comeback. Mark: It was massive and it was on the edge of your seat stuff too. Like when they got that first one I like, Ooh, it's coming. It's on. Then they got another one and it's like, Ooh, it's on and they finally got ahead, like with like thirty seconds to go. I like, this is this is awesome, this is incredible. So a couple of nice close games there. Jack: did see something about they've had to come from behind to win all their finals games this year. Mark: Yep, they yep. Jack: so yeah, if I ever die, bury me in a lions jersey 'cause I might just come back. Mark: Fuck no, let's not do that. Note to s note to self. Definitely Jack: Yeah, don't do that. Just just let me go. Mark: don't bring him back. No one wants him back. All right, let's let's move on to my sport now. We football slash soccer on last night actually. It was Tuesday night, yeah. Australia went down four two to Brazil. Jack: No. No, that's not a bad effort though, to against Mark: W Jack: Brazil. Mark: wasn't a bad effort. They it was it was a draw in the first game. I think it was two in the first game, if I remember correctly now. but yeah they came back yeah and and I think Brazil had different players, they brought out some of their their their stars this time. Or some of their better players I should say. and yeah, it was it was it was a good game. Couple of moments there. Irvine got taken out in the box, which should have been a penalty. It was a clear penalty, but didn't get called. If he had got that, you know, Stray would have got an extra goal. which would have made it three. and then who knows what would have happened after that. Jack: Mm. Mm. Yeah. Mark: the other one was as well, there's a little fella in in the Brazil time Brazil side, En Endrick. he's like my height and he tried to have a go at Harry Souter who probably stands about seven foot tall. Well he's six six actually. and Endric's only five eight. So Harry Souter's a big lad. Jack: Yeah. Mark: I got into a bit of a push and shove with Endric and I reckon Harry Sudo could've just picked him up and put him in his pocket. Like if he if he really wanted to go him he probably would have would have been quite hilarious to take on, so yeah. it's interesting though, like it's it's it was good to see Brazil over here. I would have loved to have gone to the game, but tickets sold out. It was a record crowd there last night too. Fifty two thousand four hundred and something. So yeah. Jack: Yeah, nearly a sellout. which is amazing, really. I Mark: I think the Jack: wanted to go as well, but just couldn't get tickets. Mark: Yeah, it was it was like that. I looked for tickets but couldn't get The the only time I think I've seen a bigger crowd than that was at State of Origin a couple of years ago. Yeah, I think that's I think f Jack: Yeah, true, yep. Ben that was standing right miley. Mark: yeah, that's pretty much it. look, I'm excited to see what we can do about bringing more friendly matches or even international matches to Australia, whether it be against Brazil or anyone. But we've got a great little team happening now and I think between now and the next World Cup our young players are growing. We're getting more of our young players overseas into the EPL and and those other leagues. so I think we'll we'll be in good standings for the next four years when the when the next World Cup comes out. So that'll be Jack: Yeah, definitely. Yeah. Mark: good. Jack: I think they are playing again or have they already played in South Australia maybe? Mark: I'm not sure about that one. I know they played Townsville a couple of weeks back. yeah, and then they played Suncorp. Jack: No, that might have been it. Yeah. Mark: I'm not sure if there's another one, I'll have to look it up. well we're on football. wanna talk. I don't know if you've heard about this, mm Manchester City. They used to be one of the poorer clubs and then early two thousands, maybe two thousand six, two thousand seven, they be they started to become one of the richer clubs in the league and now they're considered one of the richer clubs, but they've got in trouble. financially through the EPL. they've basically had financial auditors go through their books. basically they've said so the way it works there is if you if you earn more money you can spend more money. So similar n not so dissimilar to our salary cap that we have here where the clubs get a certain amount of money. The Jack: Okay. Mark: difference with our salary cap and theirs is if you've got more money with your club you can spend more money on people and players and everything like that. Whereas here you get what is it? thirteen, fourteen million dollars, you've got pay all your team or your players with that bank of money. So you might have your stars, you know, like Nathan Cleary, gets paid more than one of the other one of the new guys in the team. So it's similar to that. Jack: Yeah. Yep. Mark: and basically what they did is apparently they cooked their books and they said to the EPL that, you know, we've got fourteen million dollars this year when they only had four million dollars. So basically the EPL said, Okay, right, great, you can spend X amount of money on your players so they then bought all these good players and that's sort of where all the other teams are now saying, look, they didn't have that money, but now they're saying they they could afford all these extra extra good players, they should be punished for it. So that's like the layman's terms of it. I've probably fucked that up and if any listeners out there are gonna ride in and and slam me for it, I'm okay with that, go for it. Bring it on. But yeah, basically Jack: Yeah. Bring it on. Mark: that there's They've been found guilty that they did this. There's been no punishment handed down yet. there's talk about them losing points, talk about them being relegated into the Champions League, which give a year's time and they'll be back in the in the EPL, like the the Premier League. so it won't be it won't be much of an issue for them. Might just be a financial penalty. I think that'll probably be the biggest thing for them. They might end up losing players and stuff like that, but it won't be too big. but look, who knows, it could Jack: Yeah, okay. Mark: be could be massive. Which which brings to a question for you. what punishment could possibly be appropriate if they find that this is this is true, that they did lie about how much money they had. and does punishing a club later, like years later, 'cause this was like two th between two thousand nine and two thousand eighteen, so we're like eight years down the track from Jack: wow. Mark: from even the latest breach apparently. Jack: Did they win any championships in that time? Like Mark: Yeah, they won a couple, yeah. Jack: Yeah, well you gotta strip right? Yeah, Mark: Yeah. Jack: yeah. Look at what happened here with the storm. Yeah, they lost two premierships I think after Mark: Hmm. Yep. Jack: they cooked their books. Paramount Eels tried to cook the books, they still sucked so it didn't really work for Mark: Ha ha. Jack: But yeah, like they gotta take those Championships are white 'cause they're They don't exist, right? With inside Mark: Yeah, i Jack: inside the rules. So Mark: essentially, yeah. I just wanna say this, I reckon all the clubs here do it. Like they all breach the salary cap, they all do it through different ways. They might give Jack: Have to. Mark: the parents of their players houses or the parents of their players cars or something to to boost the players' salaries and stuff like that. I'm sure they all do Jack: Yeah. Mark: it. I'm sure if they all went through it, I'm not saying that makes it okay. Yeah. Jack: Some sort of share scheme or something. It's gotta be something, yeah. Mark: There's gotta be something in there. So Jack: Yeah. Mark: Does it it does it make it right? No. especially for the clubs that don't have a lot of money. And for the up and coming clubs as well, like I mean the the Titans were w were were struggling there for a few years ago, weren't they? Yeah. Jack: Well they still are, right? Yeah, the Titans have been nowhere for a very long time. yeah, are they staying within the rules and everyone else isn't? Because like, really how it should work is yeah, you pay your star a million dollars a year, all the other players get better and better but they can't get paid any more, so like where do they go from there, you know? They've that was the idea of it to Move flies around clubs, but it just Mark: Yeah, and Jack: hasn't seemed to work very well. Mark: keep the competition a bit fairer too. 'Cause you can't have twelve players in a team that are on millions of dollars a year because you you just don't have the money. So you've got to share those players around, you know, keep the ones you want, build a team around those ones. That sort of thing. So I think that's that's how it's meant to work, but I'm just gonna ask you this. Jack: Yeah. Hmm. Hmm. It was to stop the the big runs like you know, Penrith just had it was to try and stop that from happening. So Mark: That's it. let's move on to motorsport briefly. I'll get back. I wanna leave the NRL for last out of this segment. Obviously. There's l there's a lot happening, we're probably gonna talk about that for a fair bit. Jack: Okay. Mark: Motorsport. Acosta, did you watch him the other day? Jack: Yeah, and after his first win. Mark: After his first win, yeah. Jack: Yeah, so good. yeah, very happy for that bloke. He'll be he'll be a superstar. Mark: Maybe see one to one to keep an eye on. I I didn't f see it. I only just read the reviews and well not the reviews, only read the catch up on it, recently as well. So yeah, I saw that he won. and then he had a good race following that up, so yeah. Jack: Yeah, they haven't raced since then, unfortunately. Their next race is this weekend, fourth of October in Japan. Mark: Yep. That'll be a good one to watch if you can. Are you gonna be you'll be on night shift still, won't you? Jack: Yeah, it will be. it's a mid afternoon race, so I might be able to squeeze it in before I even get to work. Hmm. Mark: Yeah, nice. I'll have to check it that out on the time. F one, George Russell wins the nail biter at Baku. Jack: Yes, I did he hear about that. Mark: Yeah, he beat for s sorry, you go. Jack: sorry. yeah, he's played second fiddle to his teammate all year, so it's good to see him get a win. Mark: That's it, that's it. with that, he beat Verstappen by zero point one nine six seconds in Azerbaijan. I thought that was incredible. How do you beat someone by zero point one nine six seconds? Like who's Yeah, it's insane, isn't it? Jack: That is so close. Especially at the speed bay guy. Yeah. Mark: I love it. is it Antonelli's the championship champ championship leader at the moment? But he finished sixteenth. Jack: He is at the moment, yep. Mark: So he had a he had a shocker there. you know what went wrong? Do you know what do Jack: Sorry. Mark: you know what went wrong? Jack: No, no, I haven't caught up on this one yet. Mark: Yeah, no, neither do I. I I I've just saw that in the news this morning that yeah, he finished sixteenth. So he's dropped his lead over Russell to sixty six points. this could make it a quite a tight race for the couple of races, next couple of races to see if Russell can take over. Jack: Hmm. Yeah, I haven't really paid much attention to Formula One this year to be honest, 'cause the whole regulation changes and they're pretty much hybrid cars now, they've got to slow down to charge up so they can go fast, which makes zero sense. They're race cars, right? Just go fast. Mark: Yeah. Jack: But yeah, I might have to start paying attention now, it's heating up a little bit. Mark: Certainly is. I think it'll be a good couple good couple of races over the next little bit if they can all stay in there. So Jack: Yeah. Mark: with Antonelli dropping a he had a shocker, man, sixteenth. I can't believe that, But we'll see what happens over the next few races. Jack: Yeah, where are they off to next? Singapore. Eleventh of October, next weekend. Weekend after. Yep. Mark: Singapore, yeah, it's not next week. Yeah. Yep. That's the one. see yeah, that'll be a good one to watch. Bathurst, you know how we talked last week supercars don't do any advertising? Jack: Yeah. Mark: They I saw one ad on TV th one. One on T V the other day. And we get Jack: So proud. Biggest race the year. One out. Mark: one ad. I was I was I was happy I saw it. I like, I have to have to remember to put that on the podcast. I saw one ad. Yeah. Jack: As long as they remember to change the ads during the broadcast so you're not getting the same Repco ad a million times just forced down your throat. 'Cause God that's painful. Mark: I wonder how much Repco pay for that are they? Jack: Well, they're naming sponsor as well, so you know, they're just throwing cash at it. Mark: Hmm. Well that's it, isn't it? Drivers you're watching for the race? I think we talked about this last time, but run me through it again. Jack: yeah, like I'm a DJR fan, so Kastec is always pretty high on my list. he's got a good co driver in Hazelwood. The Walk and Shaw guys are always pretty good there. Mark: That's Chaz and Coultard, yeah? Jack: Chas and Coulthard and Woody and I can't remember his co driver's name right now. Mark: Evans? He's g Jack: Could be. Mark: yeah, Jackson Evans 'cause he's got the weird spelling, J A X O N. I call it weird 'cause it's not how I normally spell it, but anyway. Jack: Aha Rahda. But they both had mechanical failures in the race last year, so hopefully they got that sorted out. Mark: Look, you'd have to you'd have to think so, right? Jack: If not, it's gotta be Penrut boys back to back. Maddie Payne. Mark: You reckon? Jack: He's driving really well this year. Really well. he only just missed out on the sprint championship by bugger all against Brock Feening 'cause of a mechanical failure at Queensland Raceway, so Mark: Yep. so who's he racing with? I haven't seen who he's racing with this week. sorry, this time. Jack: Yeah. Two sex 'cause I cannot remember either. Mark: be good, yeah. Look you c you can't go past DJ R, right? Like with Kastecki and Hazelwood racing. Jack: Well, they just they turn it on when it matters, right? They're they've only won a handful of but Dick Johnson's the the household name, isn't he? So Mark: Well that's it. I remember watching Dick Johnson race with Brocky around Bathus when we were kids, man, like it was so good. Jack: Yeah, and yeah, the famous lap where he drives it off the racetrack into a tree. it's it still probably would have been the lap record if he had managed to finish it. Mark: One thing that surprises me about the supercars, especially back in the day when we were watching, even before we we were we were watching, is well they had the safety aspects of those cars, there's it's nothing like they are today. There was raw racing back then. Sure they had their cages and stuff like that around the vehicles, but there was none of the other s safety measures that they have nowadays. Like it's the technology that has improved in these cars is insane and even rally cars as well for that matter too. Jack: Yeah, that's right. And you know, they had bloody bench seats, so as they turn in corners, they're sliding across, so they're having to force themselves back to the steering wheel, so yeah, it's crazy. Mark: This this brings me to my a question for you that I've been thinking about all week. Do you think that if Dick Johnson and say Brocky and all those drivers back then, if they were to get in these new cars now, had the same times that these these guys are having in the cars, would they be better? Or is it is it is it a different race altogether? Jack: I I think it's too different now. yeah, the sequential boxes they still do the heel and toe stuff, but like these guys are more athletes now than they ever used to be. this is what they're trained for, they got the simulators, so I just think it's too different to be able to throw one of these guys in and expect to be fast, you know, in one of these new cars. Mark: I still reckon that'd be quick. I still reckon that'd be f that'd flog it. But Jack: that that'd still be damn quick 'cause like the race car drivers, they're fast, you know, they they're competitive, they want to go fast, so that'll still be quick, but yeah, you look at the likes of Craig Lance, he's done it forever. Mark: Mm. Jack: And he's not all that quick anymore. 'cause he's just co driving at the moment, but Mark: Yeah, who's he with? He's is he with is Jack: He Mark: it Feeney or Jack: Nah, Feeney's one of the main guys. He does the what do they call They're like wild cards, they're the young guys they try and bring through. but he's stuck with GM so he's team eighteen now, not he's not even associated with Red Bull racing anymore, so Mark: right, there you go. so he'll be racing with Frosty then. Jack: no, Frosty's Tickford, I think. So it's it's all changed, Mark: shit, I'm well out of it then Jack: yeah. yeah, Frosty's not full time driver anymore, he's co driver. Tickford, I think it might even be Cam Waters co driver. Mark: Okay, yep, yep. Jack: yeah, last couple of years Lanzi's done the like wildcards and brought some young fellas in. Like Mark: Yeah, right, okay. That'll be cool. I'll be be keen to look out for him then. Jack: Yeah. it's I think they're super cheap backed, so keep an eye out for that car. But as for Mac Payne's co driver I cannot figure it out, so Mark: That's alright, we'll talk about that next week. We've still got we still got a week to go to get all them. I'll get all the drivers lined up. We'll do a quick rundown next week on Maybe a more detailed rundown on all the drivers. Who you reckon's gonna win. Jack: Yeah, perfect. Mark: if you would put money on who's who who you gonna put money on, that sort of stuff. We'll do all that next week for supercars. Keep a note of that. Alright, now for the locker, the locker room talk. This is the big one for this week. Let's start Jack: Hmm. Mark: with Knights vs Panthers. Jack: Huh. What a game. Mark: Yeah, how good man. How good? I mean I don't like seeing anyone get hurt, but you know, Cleary ended up with a broken leg and that that was horrific. Did you see the photos afterwards? Whew. Yeah. Jack: Yeah. I saw it live on T V as like his leg was like this weird angle, like Ugh, that's not supposed to be like that. Mark: No. I feel for the guy, he was on the bench, he was injured to start with. He was on the bench to start with, came on, and it was only a few minutes after he came on this happened. Like it was it was awful. Yeah. Jack: it's awful to see. No one wants to go out and get injured. I also feel sorry for Phoenix Crossland who, you know, was just trying to stop a tackle. A bit of fatigue gets in there, you know, and yeah, he just he obviously didn't mean it. He felt awful. Mark: Yeah. Jack: Yeah, no one wants to go out and see that, so Mark: No, and this was the same injury that someone else had a few years ago as well and it was a career ending injury. Do you reckon he's gonna come back? Yeah, yeah, Giral, yeah. Yep. Jack: Yeah, Gaoye for the Broncos ended up with the same injury. look. Not knowing how severe it is, maybe. surgeons are a lot better than these days than they were then, so Mark: True, yeah. Jack: you know, it's all changed, so yeah, hopefully we get to see Cleary back on the field. Mark: Yeah. Well I I agree, he's a great player, not just for the Panthers but for New South Wales, dare I say that, and don't repeat it anywhere. Jack: Mm-hmm. Mark: and also for Australia as well, so fingers crossed to him that he recovers well and fast and he can get back on the field as soon as he can, but I I think he'll be out for probably twelve months, give or take a little bit, depending on his surgeon and Jack: He's just Mark: rehab. Jack: he's he's just great for the game as well, right? He's he he doesn't do anything wrong, he chats with the fans, he the way he moves on the footy field is incredible, like kids mimic him in the park after they see him play, so you know, it's definitely someone you want in the game. Yeah, a hundred percent, yeah. Mark: Hm. Yeah, he's a great role model, isn't he? That's what I love about watching him play as well. Aside from him being a great player in the way he moves on the field, he's a good role model. You never hear anything bad that happens off field to him. you know, and he's he's what is he's with Mary Fowler, who's the Australian footballer, for the Matildas. great couple, so yeah, fingers crossed that everything goes well for him. but Jack: Yeah. Mark: we've got a we've got to talk about this game. Did the Panthers shit the bed? Or did they go down after Cleary went out? Jack: I want to pose a different point of view. I don't think they Mark: okay. Jack: shit the bed, but they had quite a few players out there with injuries starting the game. So like Dylan Edwards had a PCL tear, the posterior Mark: Okay, yeah. Jack: cruise ligament, the not as bad one. so he was playing with that. Isaiah Yo tore a peck a few weeks ago. Whether he was fully recovered from that. who knows. He Seem play alright. and Blaze Talagi left the field with an Achilles rupture. Mark: He did, yeah. Jack: so, you know, huge losses, and that's without even mentioning Cleary going down, so yeah, three big players sorry, four big players going down, two totally off, two not a hundred percent, so and that knight's defence was just absolutely sensational. Mark: It was Roxolotter too, wasn't it? And even with one player off the field, like they were down to they were down a player for the last four thirty something minutes, whatever it was. Yeah. And they still managed to hold that defensive line and score another try in between all that. So yeah. Credit to the Knights on this one. Jack: Forty something minutes, forty four minutes, something that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Incredible. Yep. Mark: Brings me to the next next part of this, the grand final. The Roosters versus the Knights. Jack: Mm. Mark: tough one for us, or tough one for me to back. I like the Roosters. But they're a South Wales team. I want the Knights to win over the Roosters, but then you've got the Johns Brothers heritage there. Which will piss a lot of people off. the Knights Jack: Yeah. Mark: haven't won for a while. They came from the wooden spooners last year to you know becoming contenders for the NRL Premiership. Thoughts. Who's gonna win? School prediction. Jack: little bit on the fence as well. I've got a real soft spot for the Knights, so I really want them up. but just to throw a little stat at you that whoever wins the grand final, this'll be the first team that's won it from both either outside the top four or have had fifty points put on in the regular season. So Mark: Yeah, right. Jack: they're breaking tradition of a hundred odd years, so it'll be a great game. I'm gonna just go with my heart here and go the Knights by two. I reckon it'll be Mark: Ooh, close game. Jack: Insanely close. As long as they're not too buggered from that defensive effort against the Panthers there. Mark: Looked at professional athletes, they've had a week to recover. They should be okay. Jack: It should be, but you big week, grand final week, a lot of commitments. Newcastle's really turned it on. I don't think they've had to pay for anything this week, so Mark: And and they probably won't for the next few weeks either, no doubt. Jack: Yeah. So but yeah, good on Like yeah. Insane game to watch. We're at the pub watching it. We're just gonna watch like twenty minutes, can go home, watch the rest of the time. We end up staying for the whole game. The atmosphere in the pub was insane, so Mark: It was a good game. I reckon it would have been too, yeah. all right, my next question for ya. Clive Churchill Metal prediction. Jack: Yeah. Mark: I've got I've got my thoughts on this one. I I think you're gonna probably align with me on this one, but we'll we'll wait and see ya. Jack: Well, you go first 'cause I got some d different opinions to most. Mark: Sam Walker is mine. Jack: Not a bad shout. I think Teddy's probably gonna do it. James Chedesco. Mark: you reckon Jimmy's the dust guy, Jack: 'Cause he's just been so consistent this year. Like a resurgence back Mark: Yes. Jack: to form, like what he did in Origin was amazing, like for the club, just incredible, so I reckon he's gonna take it out. Mark: Yeah, okay, all right. I I did say Sam Walker. if it's not him I'd love to see Calen Ponga get it, to be honest with you as well. I love Calen, Jack: Yeah. Yeah. Mark: I love watching him play. I think he's an absolute great player. And he's yeah. So it's it He's had a massive year, hasn't he? So yeah, they're they're my two, either Sam Walker or yeah, Kalen Ponger for me. So you reckon Tedesco though. Alright, we'll see how we go. Jack: He's also had a bloody big ear too, so yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I'm sticking with Teddy. Hmm. Mark: now while we're talking about this, and we did mention that the Knights of the Wooden Spoon is last year. Is this the the greatest comeback story outside of Kim Kardashian? Jack: throw out to Chris Pratt there. Mark: Yeah, exactly. Yep. I'm glad you got the reference. Jack: Yeah, look, I who can argue it, right? Woods being to the grand final, whether they w win or lose. What a what a turnaround. Mark: Yeah. Jack: Absolutely incredible. It's nearly as good as the turnaround of the Broncos. Just just the Mark: I was gonna mention that too, but I thought I'd leave that off. Might be too soon for some of us. Jack: opposite way around, you know. Mark: Yeah, grand final winners to second pl second last on the ladder. Jack: I they made it to like fifteenth or something in the end. Mark: yeah, that's true. that also begs begs the next question. I'm gonna look this up, 'cause I wanna know and we'll talk about it next week. but what is the greatest comeback story in sport h sporting history? This Jack: Ooh. Mark: would have to be close to it, from wooden spooners to potential premiership winners. It'll give us time to look into it because if they do win, Jack: Mm. Mark: they're literally gone from wooden spooners from one end of the s one end of the ladder to the other within twelve months. So I'm gonna look this up. My first thought was, and I know you'll probably agree with me on this one, was Alfie Langer retiring, then coming back to help Queensland win the origin. Yeah. Jack: Yes. Yeah, look. As a single player, definitely that was absolutely incredible. But yeah, look, any if we do have any listeners yet, put in the comments your comeback stories, what you think's the best. But yeah, I'm gonna have to have a think about that. That's that's a tough one. Hmm. Mark: Yeah. I'm gonna have to look it up just to find it out 'cause it it brought the question to me this this week when I was thinking about questions to pose to you on the NRL. and this was one. So I'm definitely gonna have to look it up and find out what is the biggest comeback s in comeback story in sports history. So and Jack: Yeah, I don't know if they're definitely not the biggest comebacks, but those finals games the Broncos played last year, to come back from having any points down for all three games to win all three, that's it's pretty tough to beat. Mark: Hm. Yeah, there's been a lot, like, in the origin as well, with Queensland, like coming back from from points down, like in the Jack: Hmm. Mark: last minute to to win the origin. New South Wales have done it to us, but we've done it to them so many more times. Yeah, that's true. That's true. You're gonna piss off your listeners with that. Jack: Yeah. It's just 'cause New South Wales don't get origin, that's all. There's a few more people pissed off. Mark: Alright, we're getting cancelled next week, but Alright. Jack: Yes. Didn't take long. Mark: Moving on, I've got a question for ya. So we we've always talked about Fairweather Frodo being just chat between blokes down the pub essentially, right? So I'm gonna introduce a segment. It's gonna be called the pub question. Just Jack: Mm-hmm. Mark: something the guys can talk about down the pub, or wherever you are. My question to you is if you could attend one sporting event anywhere in the world, what is it and where w where are you going? Now there's rules to this. You haven't been before. Money doesn't matter, it's an all expenses paid trip, including nose beers, whatever you want. it's only one Jack: Well we take an Andrew Johns, are we? Mark: We might as take the whole whole whole whole team. it's only one event, so you can't go, I want to go here and then you know I'll I'll extend my trip and I'll Jack: Mm. Mark: go here. I've I've got two, but I've got a I've gotta narrow it down, but what's yours? One one sporting event anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, but you haven't been before and it's only one event. Jack: Jeez, what a tough one. Mark: Mm. Jack: I'd have to go to the Masters, I reckon. Mark: Yeah. I said that wa that was mine as well. Jack: What an event. Mark: next to that, I know I can only have one, but my next one with to that was the Monaco GP. Jack: really? Mark: Yeah, I'd love to go there. yeah. Just the atmosphere there would I reckon would be insane. Jack: Yeah. Mark: Small street circuit, you know, like beautiful scenery. I reckon it'd be awesome, but you you can't beat the Masters in golf. I just I just don't think you can, Hank. Jack: since we chose the masters, my second one would have to be the Isle of Man, the the super bike race, so 'cause I reckon Mark: Ooh, yeah, I didn't think about that. Yeah. Man, those guys are Jack: that'd be absolutely insane. Mark: Okay. Isle of Man. Yeah, we're getting off track here, but this is the whole point of the pub question, right? Isle Jack: Yeah. Mark: of Man, if you were to go to the Isle of Man, would you want to race around the track? Like you've obviously ridden bikes a lot. I can see how in the background I know how good of a Jack: Mm. Mark: variety you are. I've ridden a lot of bikes. I would love to do a couple of laps around there myself. Obviously not at the speed that those guys do because I don't have the balls that they do. and that wouldn't weigh the bike down enough, my little balls. Jack: Yeah. Mark: Would you want to race around that too? Jack: Race around it? Definitely not, because I know my limitations. but my problem is that visor goes down and I get the red mist and I just go. Mark: You just got Jack: say race around it, no, definitely not. When there's a speed limit around there's cops everywhere, yeah that's that's when I'll have a go at it. Mark: Yeah, right. Jack: But yeah, look, no more limitations, and that's beyond me I think. Mark: Yeah, look, I'm not saying I'd race around it, I just I'd ride around it, but I'd like to go faster than what the speed limit is, so I'd like there to be no cops Jack: Mm. Mark: on the road. Have a closed circuit. Let me do maybe thirty Ks an hour around the track and then I'll be good. These guys are doing three Jack: Yeah. Mark: hundred, I'm doing thirty, just leave me alone, right? Yeah, thinking I'm going like a million miles an hour. Yeah. Jack: And you're still all tucked in. Nah. I just know I'd just end up through one of them cobblestone fences at muck Jesus and and that just hose me off the road, you know. Mark: Look, if you're gonna go, that's the w it's one way to go, right? It's not your problem after that. Jack: Yeah, sure. Yeah, suddenly it's someone else's problem. So it is. Mark: That's it man, that's it. Island, I like that one. Yeah, but minus still have to be the Masters over that. Yep. Yeah, if it's gonna be an Jack: Yeah. Yeah, a hundred percent. It'll just be a good week. Mark: if it's gonna be an all expensive pay trip, definitely the Masters. all right. Moving on, let's let's talk about business and life. anything happening in the business this week? Jack: business to go well. plenty of work coming in. could always use a bit more, of course, Mark: Yeah. Hmm. Jack: but excuse me. Sorry. Mark: Just choking on the cock, Jack: Yeah. don't shake, you know that. Professionals. Mark: Just swallow it all down. Jack: but yeah. Plenty going on the business world. yeah, definitely like a bit more work but slowly picking up. slowly get my head around how to probably manage tax and a accounts. you've got a really good account and that's helped me out a lot, so maybe we'll get him on the cast one day and ask him a few questions if anyone's curious. Mark: Hundred percent. Yeah, let's let's tee that up for a few more weeks. Yeah. Jack: Yep. but yeah, it's it's been going well. I've picked up a couple of new toys, new mower and new trailer, so yeah, expanded the horizons a little bit. Mark: Yeah, good stuff. Good stuff. Jack: Yeah you go. Mark: yeah, going alright. I think I've picked up a few extra projects this week as well, which is great. yeah, great for things. It's I Jack: Yeah, so Mark: I'm I'm with you on that. Learning the admin side of things. you know, just trying to get that cash flow in, getting the projects finished, invoices out, cash flow in. it's always a tough one, but getting there, working out the admin side of things with like Bass right at the end of the quarter. gotta get that sorted out. Jack: Hmm. Yep. Mark: I spoke to I've got to call the accountant next week. just make sure everything's good there, see if I have to do anything. putting bills into the accounting software, all that sort of stuff, making sure everything's s sorted and paid and and no one's chasing me for anything. yeah, just gotta make sure all that. So it's it's it's been good. It's it's been a challenge to learn it all. Jack: Hmm. Mark: you know, saying that I did a fair bit of admin side of things in my old consultancy firm 'cause we had to do a bit ourselves. but nothing like I have to do now, which which is good, you know, it's it's it's opened my eyes to to everything so yeah. Jack: Yeah. And you know, starting off with a good software definitely helps. yeah, it's pretty easy to to f follow through. They give you a dummy company that you can go and try things and make mistakes there so you don't do it in yours. yeah, it's it's been a learning curve. I've I haven't done that much in admin with my job, so it's definitely been a learning curve. Mark: Yeah, it's good it's good fun though. I've really enjoyed the that side of it as well. got a couple of meetings later on this week and next week as well with with new and old clients as well, just trying to build business that way too. just keep my ear to the ground, so to speak, on anything that comes through. So are you you're Jack: Hmm. Yep. Thanks. Mark: getting your work life balance still? I know you're working full time but you're also doing the business, you're still getting downtime? Jack: Not as much as I'd hoped. But look, I'd I keep weekends free for the family and me, so Mark: Yep. Yep. Yeah, it's good. Jack: yeah. Yeah, it's always gonna be like this to start off. who knows it might stay like this, it might not. if the business reaches a point where I can wind back my full time job then a hundred percent I'll do that, but yeah. I just knew it was gonna be pain before the any glory, that's for sure. Mark: Yeah, look you've probably done things the right way versus me. Like I had to quit 'cause there's a conflict of interest in what I was doing and what I am doing, 'cause it's the same thing and I can't do it for both companies. so if Jack: Yeah. Mark: if there was a way for me to do what I was doing and still working, to to bring the money in to get it everything set up properly, that would have been ideal. So for me, yeah, I've got a bit more of that work life balance happening at the moment. being able to take the dog for a walk in the mornings, have a coffee, you know log on, do a little bit of work, go out during the day if I need to, all that sort of stuff. I get that flexibility there, which is nice. So Yeah. Jack: Yeah. That's good man. But yeah, you know, kids are at school so basically I'm free during school hours anyway, so I'm out there trying to get the business off the ground. So Yeah, it's going well. Hmm. Mark: Working away. Yeah, that's good man. That's good. All right, cost of living. interest rates went up. That's Jack: I did. Mark: that sucks for anyone who owns a home. Jack: Yes. We'll just talk about that tonight actually. something my partner works with is making the tough decision of selling the house 'cause they just can't afford it. you know, Mark: Yeah, right, that's tough, man. Jack: single parent, solo income, so yeah. Mark: It's gotta be tough for a lot of people out there. Like I'm I'm feeling it now. obviously, you know, not having a regular wage come in now, you know, we're we're feeling it here too, with the cost of cost of living going up and the business still in its infancy stages. Like I'm making ends meet and everything like that, but you know, needs to pick up soon enough. So but yeah, we'll Jack: Yeah. Mark: yeah. Jack: yeah, like we spoke last week about me shopping around for an electric car or a hybrid for the the business. yeah, we just signed up to Costco 'cause there's one not far from us here. just for the cheap fuel, f if nothing else. we probably won't get buy anything in bulk 'cause we just don't have the space for it, but the fuel's like you know, twenty, thirty, forty cents a litre cheaper than anywhere else, so Mark: Geez, that's all right. Considering we're paying three bucks a lead on at the moment. Jack: that's right, yeah. Any saving's a big saving, so we just signed up for that, just on the weekend, so yeah, hopefully that saves us a little bit there, but yeah, any cost saving tips anyone has, feel free. That we'll share all. Yeah. Mark: Yeah. Send send in, send them in. I I know that one a lot of people are gonna do is sell your feet pictures online. You know where out here slogging away there's chicks out there earning millions of dollars by putting their feet up online. Doesn't fucking make any sense to me but Jack: Whatever you want. Mark: Hey, I fart all the time, I could be I could be selling that shit. another thing about cost of living I want to talk about, I've got a couple of things here. as you know, last week we went to the Gold Coast for a week just for the school holidays. and I reckon woolies inflate their prices at certain areas. Like we there's woolies down, we stayed at Broad Beach, there's woolies down there, not far from where we're staying. You couldn't walk out of there without spending a hundred bucks. Jack: Yeah. Mark: and and I'm talking like a little bag and it was wasn't even full and it's a hundred bucks. Jack: Yeah. Mark: I know up here you still walk out with a h you still walk out with a hundred bucks, but I'm pretty sure you get double the amount of stuff that you did down there. So I'm I'm pretty sure woolies inflate their prices. I may get us cancelled for this. but, you know, I'm I'm I'm sure they all do it. But yeah, it just it just Jack: Well Mark: seemed that way that you spend more money down there than what you do up here. Jack: if they're upset about it then prove that they don't, right? So show us your national pri pricing for the whole thing. like the A triple C that the government brought in hundred years ago that was supposed to stop all the shit was doing precisely nothing. So what what are we supposed to do? Even to like Ivan to report a survey, back in March or April, whenever the war kicked off. but they made it that bloody hard to report 'cause they were fifteen cents a litre dearer than every other server around. Mark: Yeah, right. Jack: They made it that hard to report it, I just gave up. So, right. What's the point? Mark: That's it. Yeah. Don't make it too hard, no one's gonna do it, that's the point, right? So Jack: Yeah. Mark: yeah. I wanna I wanna talk about this cost of living every week. I think it's something that we need to bring up. There's a lot of people struggling out there. If there's any ways people have any ideas people have to help each other out, whether it be buying in bulk or meal planning or whatever it is, whatever ideas you got, Jack: Mm-hmm. Mark: send them on in. The other the I've got two questions for you now. 'Cause w we like to talk shit and we like to have some fun. Alright, what's something that you don't buy because it's too expensive now? Jack: god. Mark: Alright, well you th Yeah, pretty much Jack: Shit, I don't know. Just about everything. Mark: it. and what's something that you could do without? sorry, I'll say that again. What's something that if the price doubled overnight, you would still fucking buy it? Jack: So probably the same answer in a different way. 'cause I don't really watch T V. So first thing I get rid of is excuse me, all the streaming services. Mark: Yeah. Jack: Get rid of all them. I've only got a couple. My rule is if I've run out of shows to watch on one, I'll cancel that one and go for another one. So I've only ever got one or two on the go. Mark: Yeah. That's fair. Jack: But in saying that if KO doubled its price overnight I'd still keep it 'cause I just love my sport and Mark: Yep. It it's so good. Jack: Yeah. And they've got it, right, so Mark: That's fair. Look, I'd probably I'd probably be something similar to that too. Like we do something similar here with the streaming services. We'll keep two on the run at one and one time. We'll do it for a month or two, we'll cancel it, we'll move on to two more, we'll cancel those, move on, and then we just rotate through. A lot of the times as well, like you have shows being released weekly, especially on like Prime and HP O and that sort of stuff. They release weekly. You just wait for two months, they're all there then then you can binge overnight, you know? So Jack: Mm-hmm. Exactly. And then you can watch something else on another service while you're waiting for those shows to build up. And then you're home and hose, right? So Mark: That's it. That's it. all right. This is gonna be my favourite segment. I love looking these up every week. Weird Shit of the Week. Yep. So in tradition of it being called Weird Shit of the Week, I'm always gonna find a story about shit. And this week I think it was in the States, maybe Tennessee somewhere, maybe I think it was Tennessee anyway. a driver was allegedly crashed into a supermarket pharmacy because he desperately needed to take a shit. Jack: Funny hell. Just couldn't even bark, just drive through the door. Mark: I don't Couldn't just drive through the door. I mean if you gotta go you gotta go, right? the the I I should actually say this, it was closed. So so y Jack: that's desperate. Okay. Well Mark: you know, you kinda had to drive through to get in there. Yeah, when his his excuse was I needed to use the bathroom like when they arrested him. So Jack: Does make a little bit more sense, but geez, that's still desperate. Yeah right. Mark: my question to you on this one is what's the most desperate you've ever been to take a shit? And what point does driving through a building make it reasonable? Jack: Jeez. I think I'd find a tree or something or just a ditch just pull over and let it rip. Just you know no one's gonna be like, my god, he's taking a shit. You'd just be he was supposed to be desperate. So Yeah. Mark: Yes, but if you're on the side of a road taking a shit, you are desperate, right? Like you it's n y it's about to come out, you know, you don't have time to find another servo or a Maccas or any sort any place like that. Jack: Yeah. As soon as you feel that farto on a trailer, you know you know you're in in desperate times, right? So I don't think Mark: Yeah. Jack: I crash into a building, I'll just randomly stop somewhere and just let it rip. Mark: Yeah, that's true. I'd probably do the same thing. before we move on, I've got one more question for you as well. what's the least amount of money? And I think we've talked about this before. Take Mike Tyson in his prime. What's the least amount of money that you'll get in a ring with him? You Jack: Jesus. Mark: can fight back. You can fight back, but you don't have to you don't have to win the fight. You just need to survive one round. Jack: Is it worth fighting back? I mean Mark: Could you even fight back against Mike Tyson? I I couldn't fight back against Mike Tyson now, let alone him in his crime. Jack: Can I leave with both my ears intact at least? Or is it damn it. Mark: No. Yeah. Jack: Well I don't think I stand a chance. Honestly, he'd punch me on a turn to powder, so. I've gotta just Mark: Yeah, I'd be dead. Jack: run. I've just gotta run circles and hope for the best. Mark: Yeah. Look, I'd I'd probably be doing the same, I'd just be running. Either that or I didn't be in the fitter position screaming, Don't hurt me Jack: Okay. Mark: Man, when he was that fight he w with Jake Paul the other year, Jack: Huh. Mark: man, I was watching those reels that he put up of him in at his age then and he was just hitting those bags and hitting those trainers. Man, that was scary. Like Jack: Hm. The the speed of his hands is just unbelievable. I just yeah. I wouldn't stand a chance. Yeah. You know Mark: No. he'd he'd put his hand through me. Like Jack: in Avengers where they knock the soul out of someone? That's me. Mark: Yeah, that that's Mike Tyson to any of us, all right, I'm gonna call this section birdie and bogey. birdie is the best thing about the week and a bogey is the worst, most annoying, or the stupidest thing that's happened in your week. Okay. Jack: best thing happened this week, got to go out on Monday night, feel the boys. That was a great time. That was Mark: Is that also the stupidest thing of the week? Jack: yeah, probably. 'cause getting home at four AM in the morning when you're my age is just not achievable anymore. it pretty much wasted a whole day, so yeah. That was definitely a dumb thing. Mark: Yep. Hurts, doesn't it? Yeah, all right. So that's your your best and worst. Jack: Yeah. It was a great night, but God, I paid for it. Mark: Always gotta after that, Especially now when you don't bounce back like you used to, Like Jack: Nah, definitely splat against the wall on that one. Mark: Yeah. all right. Best thing about my week, look it could it kinda leads on to last week as well. Like being away for the week is always good. you know, you you can't beat a holiday even if it's just a couple of days away. Gotta gotta enjoy that. worst thing about the week is probably getting back home and having to do all the shit that you gotta do Jack: Yeah. Mark: at home. Get things back in line, you know, all that sort of stuff. So yeah, look it's it's probably hand in hand. Jack: Life does not end. Mark: That's exactly right, even if you want it to. all right, so this will be the the bit of a wrap up now. We've been gone for just over an hour, so everyone's probably bored and fallen asleep or muted us. which Jack: Yeah. Mark: is okay if you wanna tune us in, mute us, walk away, happy with that, don't care. we'd Jack: Yeah. Mark: love you to listen and and give us some feedback as well. Speaking of feedback, our email address is admin at fairway two friday, the to dot com. So that's admin at fairway to Friday dot com if you want to send anything in. what are you doing before the next episode, which we'll probably record next Wednesday? Jack: Yeah, look, just not shift straight in that. not very Sexy I know, but it's gotta be done. It's what pays the bills, so. Working and sleeping. Mark: Yep, fair enough. Sounds good. this weekend I'm going to sand back a couple of coffee tables. I bought a few old coffee tables recently. Gonna sand them back, give a bit of a spruce up and try and flip them as well. So we'll see how that goes this weekend. I've got a bit of time this weekend, so I'll do that. you got any goal for events coming up? s yeah, Friday you mentioned. Jack: Yeah, nice. Yep. maybe in a couple of days. yeah, apart from that I'm aiming for a day next week after night shift, so maybe Thursday, Friday next week and try and get down on the course. I've just gotta dust the gloves off. Mark: Yep. Yeah, hip hit me up on that one. Should be fine then. Yep. Jack: Sounds good. Mark: As there anything you want to add in for next week into the podcast, let me know, we'll add it in. Jack: Yeah, listeners do the same thing. but yeah, I think we'll do that, the Bathis thing, the driver lineup, 'cause that's a big event for us. Mark: Yes. Yep. Jack: yeah, grand final's gonna be massive. Mark: Yep, definitely those two. Jack: And I'd like to put something in there about like how to start a business, right? Just even getting an ABN. Let's just talk Mark: Yeah, okay. Jack: about that for a couple of minutes. websites you need, what you need to set one up. whether you need CellTrader or you wanna start a company, we'll run through that a little bit. Hmm. Mark: Sounds good, mate. And we'll go through all the trials and tribulations that we had and what we worked out along the way. we're still obviously both our businesses still young, so there's probably a lot more to l that we've got to learn. so yeah, if you are a listener out there who has set up their own small business before and you wanna throw us some advice, feel free. Admin at fairway twofriday dot com and we'll we'll we'll see if we can add it all in. Excuse me. Jack: It's definitely not advice, but it's just gives you a starting point, so Yeah. reach out to him. Mark: That's it. let's hit up your accountant as well to see if he's got any ideas as well. If he wants to join the show, maybe next week or the week after we can we can try and get him on. That'll be great. any farewells for tonight? We just want to sign off. Jack: I've forgotten it now. What was it? Mark: Can't remember, that's what I was asking. And on that note, everyone enjoy your week. Jack: Yeah, it's gone. Mark: We'll see us next week. I'm Jack. No, I'm not Jack. I am Mark. That is Jack. You were Jack? Fucking hell. We really did. What an ending. That's how we do that's how we roll here. Alright people, keep it real. Jack: No you know I am Jack. Jeez, we really fucked that up, didn't we? Holy shit. And till next time. Mark: Peace out, homies. Jack: Yeah.
