- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermind, set coach, creative strategist, and also
- 0:09happened to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Oh my gosh, I'm actually in the chicken coop.
- 0:32Yes, it's later because this is when we finally can get out here
- 0:35with the sun and the cold and it's very early.
- 0:39And so we still have snow on the ground.
- 0:42Yes, it's not like 10 inches, but we've got about four inches
- 0:46on the ground even after melting tons of ice.
- 0:49And here's what's interesting about this week.
- 0:52This is about a reflection right now because I have been
- 0:55reflecting about my trip, what's gone on.
- 0:59The challenge is I got home and the house was not warm enough.
- 1:04And I checked and it's the guys never noticed that yeah, it was
- 1:09warm. It was like 65 in the house.
- 1:11But it wasn't like warm. And when I checked, I was like,
- 1:15you know, the outside unit isn't running, meaning, you know, HVAC
- 1:19units in the South have one outside, one inside and the pump
- 1:22and the ceiling and it wasn't working.
- 1:25So had to call, get the heating guy to come out and it had
- 1:29frozen and went to go out and water the chickens Can't get the
- 1:33water from the thicket that comes out into the farm area
- 1:36because it's frozen. And you know, the first
- 1:40inclination you go to is wow, this is so freaking annoying.
- 1:44And yes, it's annoying. And it just, you start to think
- 1:49about how all the things that happened now while I was gone, I
- 1:53have these covers that come up over the chicken coops to shade
- 1:56it for the sun and the summer. They broke.
- 1:58They're like those things that hangover restaurants that kind
- 2:01of shelter the tables, not umbrellas, but those wing
- 2:04looking ones. And I'm not sure what they're
- 2:06called, but they had them over the chicken coop and they broke
- 2:10because of the weight of the snow and the ice.
- 2:12And I never thought to tell anybody to take them down.
- 2:15And just, you just know, don't think about certain things.
- 2:18And you walk around and you look at all the things that are
- 2:20probably not alive anymore because we have tender citrus
- 2:24here. And, you know, that's probably
- 2:27gone. Kumquats, oranges, Tangerines,
- 2:30Meyer lemons, limes, all these things that we've been
- 2:33cultivating for the last few years.
- 2:35And the storm came on and it went so low.
- 2:39And no matter even if we had covered them, we were not, we
- 2:42didn't have the right equipment to cover them properly and take
- 2:45care of them. And you sit and you say to
- 2:47yourself, you, the immediate emotion you come up with is this
- 2:50is so frustrating. I mean, even the girls out here
- 2:53in the coop, they clearly do not like the snow.
- 2:57My husband was telling me they wouldn't come out of the coop.
- 2:59They were just standing in the coop.
- 3:00So they have a giant coop and then they have a run and then
- 3:03that we open the big doors of their run that can go out into
- 3:07the farm. So they have the whole farm to
- 3:09roam around, but they won't leave and they won't leave the
- 3:12coop. And they and they were just
- 3:14standing all inside. So all 63 of them were standing
- 3:17inside staring out looking like what the hell has happened?
- 3:21And I think we were all looking at what the hell has happened
- 3:24because it's so cold and it's still cold.
- 3:26It's 26° as I'm talking to you. And this is abnormal for here,
- 3:30like totally abnormal. So especially for this many days
- 3:34in a row and it, it this whole month has been abnormal weather.
- 3:38And I started to reflect on how many emotions I've actually gone
- 3:42through in this week alone, let alone moment to moment,
- 3:46day-to-day. And how by the time I got home
- 3:49and I was here hearing about, you know, the, the heating and,
- 3:53or recognizing the heating and hearing about the other
- 3:56challenges, all these little things that had come up and just
- 4:00all the stuff I realized that my frame of mind had really gone
- 4:03into maybe. And why is maybe such an
- 4:05important aspect? Because when my emotions start
- 4:09to go crazy, I always go back to, Yep, you're allowed to have
- 4:13that emotion because it's trying to help me and tell me
- 4:15something. And you know, that may be the
- 4:18conclusion, but it may be not be.
- 4:20So I constantly tell myself maybe.
- 4:23So let me use the heating unit as an example when I recognize
- 4:26that the outside unit wasn't working because here's the funny
- 4:30part. It's right by the door at the
- 4:32rear entrance of the house. So I see it and I know when it's
- 4:36running all the time because I'm attuned to it.
- 4:38Doing this in the hot, hot weather, because that's usually
- 4:42when they go down is like if it's like 90° with 100%
- 4:46humidity, it's going to have a challenge potentially if it's
- 4:48not taken care of. So I pay attention to it and I,
- 4:53it just becomes part of my habit.
- 4:55And then when I recognize, hey, that units not working right
- 4:57now, I wonder if it's frozen. The immediate fear was, Oh no,
- 5:02we're not going to be able to get somebody come to come out
- 5:04here because there's so many things broken out here with all
- 5:07this cold. And then my immediate reaction
- 5:10was maybe because that's I love to call her.
- 5:14This is maybe. And I actually have her as that
- 5:17name in my emotional bus. Maybe because she's not my
- 5:20hippie chick Zen girl, but she's much more attuned to
- 5:23possibility. And I haven't quite figured out
- 5:25what trio or conglomerate of emotions she actually is, but I
- 5:30call her maybe. So there's maybe standing there
- 5:32maybe. And I was like, OK, so then it
- 5:35was like, oh, OK, what what should I, I'm going to
- 5:38immediately call, call them. I got somebody to come out. 1:50
- 5:41it was great. Comes out.
- 5:42He says, I can't find anything wrong with it.
- 5:44It just did an auto shutdown. I don't know why, Maybe it's the
- 5:47panel. And I said, but maybe it's not.
- 5:50And he just looked, started laughing and I said, well, I'm
- 5:52not going to just change the panel if I don't know if it's
- 5:54working right now, let's turn it, let's leave it and we'll see
- 5:57where it goes. And he's like, well, it might
- 5:59not work long term. I said, but maybe it will.
- 6:01And I could feel myself keeping that maybe frame with
- 6:04everything. My son's like, well, the
- 6:06chickens still aren't coming out.
- 6:07Like maybe they will today as it warms up.
- 6:10And I just kept staying. And maybe, and you know what,
- 6:12everything went the right way. The unit is running overnight.
- 6:15The unit is running. Who knows what happened.
- 6:18Who knows if it was a glitch, maybe the chickens will come out
- 6:21today. At least they're out of the
- 6:22coop. They're in the run on the areas
- 6:24that doesn't have snow, and maybe they'll go further and
- 6:28maybe it will melt today because it's going to go up to 50° and
- 6:31maybe everything else, all the craziness will come down.
- 6:34But when you use a frame of maybe, it's really helpful.
- 6:37So I hope you learn from my lessons of reflection on this
- 6:41week and I will see you guys tomorrow and maybe it will be
- 6:45warmer. All right, my friends, I hope
- 6:47you have a blessed day. Bye.
