- 0:00Back on the Yukon Football Coaches Show. It's Utah State at the rent on
- 0:04Saturday there one and three Jamara with US coach. They got a rookie quarterback
- 0:09McKay Hillstead who threw forty seven passes last weekend, almost four hundred yards,
- 0:15four touchdown passes. That was his first game started. That's pretty impressive.
- 0:19Yeah, especially against the JAMU defense. It's really good. And they got
- 0:23down to that game and they handed that young man the ball and they said
- 0:27go make plays and he went and many plays. He was very impressive.
- 0:30You know, it's an explosive offense. They scored over seventy points against Idaho
- 0:34State and you know they spread you out and they sling it all over the
- 0:38field and it'll be a great challenge for our defense. Yeah. I had
- 0:42a seventy six yard completion. He's got some good wide receivers at Terrella one
- 0:46ten catches, Jalen Royals. I mean, these dudes, they were number
- 0:50one, zero one, number one. I mean the Huskies are gonna have
- 0:53to get after them. Yeah, I think it's important we went up front,
- 0:56you know that we don't let this quarterback feel comfortable back there in the
- 0:59pocket. It. We don't let him run the ball, but he's a
- 1:02good player. They're good players. I mat they've got a really good receiving
- 1:04corps. I think they've got three really good running backs and they're very capable
- 1:08of moving the balls as we've seen. Yeah day Von Booth is his name,
- 1:14the running back where's number six twenty one carries one hundred and six the
- 1:18other day now, game day. We're not going to go into your every
- 1:23day coaches routine because that might take too long. But I want to get
- 1:27the game day because watching you before a football game tires me out. I'm
- 1:34a guy that's in pretty good shape for my age, but you you're up
- 1:38and down stairs and stadiums. So I got to get this from you.
- 1:42How many steps do you think you do before a football game on a Saturday
- 1:47depends on the size of the stadium. And what I have found is the
- 1:51rent is just perfect for me at this point in my life. It's something
- 1:56I started when I first started coaching. Really, I was in San Diego
- 2:00and we are offices, we're in our stadium, and I love to go
- 2:05uphill, as I've told you many times, and I love I've always loved
- 2:07to run stairs. When I was at University of Washington, we'd run the
- 2:10stairs and Husky Stadium all the time. And so I've always had a routine
- 2:15that I go out and I run four laps, which is about a mile,
- 2:17and then I used to do sixteen one tens starting on the minute.
- 2:22I've kind of fallen off of that the last few years, just as because
- 2:25I used to say I was going to stride one tens, but I don't
- 2:28even know if I can stride anymore. And then I run the stadium stairs
- 2:32and I've done that. You know, really every game that I've ever coached
- 2:35in my career, hit about every stadium in the country, and it just
- 2:40kind of it not kind of it gets me in the right frame of mind
- 2:45to go, coach. Are you sure? Are you meditating a little bit
- 2:49while you're running? What are you doing? I mean, because I run
- 2:52like that, I can't think about anything else but putting one foot in front
- 2:54of the other. I'm listening to music. I have a playlist I make
- 2:59every week, and I'm thinking, you know, I'm thinking about game situations.
- 3:04I'm thinking about where we are as a team, thinking about what I
- 3:07need to do, you know, in the game to help our players go
- 3:10out and play well. I'm watching what's going on on the field. Typically
- 3:14when i'm running the stairs, I'm just trying to get myself in a zone
- 3:17where I can be at my best. All Right, what's the toughest stadium
- 3:23that you've ever run? In terms of steps? Lambeau Field is the toughest.
- 3:27It's uh, you brought up Michigan when we were off the air.
- 3:30Michigan's a close second, but Lambo is the hardest. It's the steepest,
- 3:35and they don't have like they don't you know, sometimes they cut a stare
- 3:38in half. Every stair there's like about at least a foot, so you're
- 3:42really having to lift your knees. And it's it really is never gradual.
- 3:46It's straight up from the get go. At Michigan, you've got it's gradual.
- 3:50Then at the end it's pretty straight up. But Lambo is a is
- 3:53a mother, and I mean to make it around Lambeau that's quite an accomplishment,
- 3:59and I've done it several times. It's never been fun. I've never
- 4:03enjoyed it, but you know, it's it's what I do, so it
- 4:08helps me. It helps me get ready for my mind right, helps me
- 4:11get my mind right. Your mind is right. I like that. I
- 4:13like it a lot. All right, coach, we appreciate it. Thanks
- 4:15so much. Good luck on the weekend. Let's get number one. Let's
- 4:17go. I'm with you, let's get it all right, guys, take
- 4:21care. That's Jim Moore. We'll be back with more. Mumu bin Wahad
