- 0:13the description of this podcast, excuse me, are you Lisa Simpson? Yes,
- 0:19how on, I'm a defanzo skinny Palmer. This is Marcus Marbles Le
- 0:26Marques, please to meet you. We were about to play a quick set
- 0:30and we were wondering if you, Lisa Simpson, would do us the honor
- 0:34yes of sitting in that chair in the audience. We want to jam with
- 0:39your brother Fourth Finger Discount dude, Welcome to four Finger Discount of the podcast
- 1:03where we rarely do the show in person, but that's all about to change
- 1:07because this week we're here to review h ab F one eight It is episode
- 1:10two of season eighteen. It is Jazzy and the Pussycats. I am Dando
- 1:14and I am Guy and yes, indeed, Dando and I face to face.
- 1:18That's something that Nicola usually can say, but not about Sorry, there
- 1:23was a bit of an off color gag, but yes, we are actually
- 1:26in the same room. There is only a couple of feet of desk between
- 1:32us. I could reach right over and touch him. I will not do
- 1:34so. But we are here to talk about jazzing and the Pussycats together for
- 1:38the first time in approximately three years. You think, yeah, it's been
- 1:42since March of twenty twenty, so before the pandemic started. Because at first
- 1:47we're like, oh, just be easy to sort of do it from home,
- 1:49even though we live five minutes from each other. We're so lazy.
- 1:52But I just sort of you just get into a state of, you know,
- 1:53when because the pandemic started, he just got comfortable. But a lot
- 1:57of people still want to work from home. It's just it became them to
- 2:00the point where we did the podcast for so long that way that just became
- 2:02the norm. Didn't it very much the case? And we'll all say,
- 2:06you know, I had to unplug various microphones and headphones and put them in
- 2:09the car and bring them over, and I don't know, it resembled hard
- 2:13work, man. I was like, basically, people, it was like,
- 2:15once it was working, I was like, don't touch it, leave
- 2:19it. You flick a switch, I will kill you. And then the
- 2:23other Day patrons might be aware of this if they have heard our going down
- 2:28to south Park episode of Bigger, Longer and uncut the south Park movie.
- 2:31But oh my god, what a chore to get that up and running,
- 2:35because yeah, somewhere in the matrix, my laptop had decided to either upgrade
- 2:44some sound equipment or whatever, and as a result, my microphone and my
- 2:49headphones and nothing was working. No, it was like, we cannot recognize
- 2:53a microphone or a camera. I'm like, Jesus, guys, like,
- 2:57have you tried turning it off and turning it on? Just hearing through cleansed
- 3:01teeth, and I'm like, I'm trying everything. I finally took my computer
- 3:07to my very Steve to Steve, Yes, my very text tech savvy buddy,
- 3:13who he initially even he was confused by. But we spent a couple
- 3:19of hours it's like, okay, push this button or again, maybe downloads
- 3:23this, and finally found out that what was the problem. It was real
- 3:29tech, which I think is like audio software. Yeah, it had been.
- 3:31It had glitched somewhere along the line because my computer wasn't playing anything either.
- 3:36Man. I tried to okay, I tried to play YouTube videos and
- 3:38was silent and all that kind of stuff. So we finally got it,
- 3:43so an honest to guard it was like correctly dancing around. I said,
- 3:49can I can I give you some money for this or at leasing id door
- 3:51dash you some dinnery goes. I just hate having tech problems that I can't
- 3:54solve. The win is win enough, the winners payment enough. So I
- 3:59was like I said that yes, and walk out of there with all my
- 4:02money, dashed to my house and I got myself do it to celebrate,
- 4:12and then we recorded that night and everything, yeah, very smoothly, but
- 4:16oh, I think that was the That was the seed that got planted in
- 4:20Dando's mind and he was like, I don't trust that at all. I'm
- 4:28gonna have him bring all this ship over to my house and I'm gonna I'm
- 4:30gonna steer all right, I'm gonna I'm taking the wheel on this one.
- 4:34I don't trust my co pilot. Fucking no, no no. Basically,
- 4:38it was like I listened to like older podcasts when we first started, and
- 4:41I was like, you just can't capture that atmosphere, CanYa, when you're
- 4:44doing it over riverside or over zoom or anything like that. It's like it
- 4:46just doesn't feel the same. We listen to a podcast, you can tell
- 4:47they're in the same room, that is correct. Yeah, look and wherevery
- 4:51pro Riverside here at here at four ving discount. You hear that Riverside,
- 4:57But yeah, I mean it's a great piece of tech. It enables us
- 5:00to see one another. You know, it's pretty used a friendly ever it
- 5:03dunce like me, but you know nothing, there's nothing like the real thing.
- 5:09Baby. Yes, and so here we are. Yeah, not every
- 5:11show is going to be done in person because we do too many shows for
- 5:14you guys and just be too inconvenient. So that's where Riverside's very convenient.
- 5:16So all the other side shows we do, like talking signfl going down the
- 5:19South Park, what else did we do speaking of the Hill one of our
- 5:21friends obviously with Nicola, and all the other shows that we do are going
- 5:25to be still done by Riverside, but four figure discount. I think we're
- 5:28gonna try and do it as much as we can in person because it's just
- 5:30to try and capture that that atmosphere and that that vibe. Again. It
- 5:32is indeed, even though Nicholas lives in the same houses then, or they
- 5:35still do it by riverside. We don't. I don't want to be in
- 5:38the same room. What was his face to face business you're talking about.
- 5:42I hope Nikola doesn't listen to these Park. I meant it with all due
- 5:47respect, you touched on a bigger, longer and cut before. So we
- 5:50reviewed that for our exclusively on a Patreon for our going down a South Park
- 5:54fan, So if you are a fan of South Park, you can find
- 5:57that on our Patreon. But now with Patreon, the just brought in this
- 6:00new thing where else telling new about it that you don't have to subscribe to
- 6:03get access to things now, so we're gonna be checking things up in like
- 6:05our store. There's like a Patreon store, which means he can go online
- 6:09and he just order. You can cherry pick what you want and just pay
- 6:11like a one time fee and get it downloaded to your phone or to your
- 6:15what have you listening to your podcast on, which I think is a really
- 6:16cool sort of like new element that brought into Patreon because some people have a
- 6:19fear of I don't want to have to subscribe and I'll forget to unsubscribe.
- 6:24It's just money. That's coming in my wallet. It's a fear of committing
- 6:27to something. But if just say, you want to hear our review of
- 6:29biggerlong Growing card, you can go into our patreon now find find it in
- 6:31our shop, click download, pay the little one type a couple of dollars
- 6:34redus and you've got it yours forever. The French called a la carte.
- 6:38I don't look people on the end, and have been talking about this forever,
- 6:42you know, I mean so many publications, for instance, behind pay
- 6:45walls, and it's like, I don't want to pay this amount for the
- 6:47whole thing. I really just want that article. But at the same time
- 6:50I feel a bit of a guilty conscience setting up, like oh, I'm
- 6:54not going to name names, but you know, sides that enable you to
- 6:57bypass paywalls, Like no, I actually do want to, you know,
- 7:00reward these people for their good work. And yeah, by doing this you
- 7:03can record recorder reward yes for our good word, reward for recording for you.
- 7:11I was getting those two words sort of like jumble them in trunk,
- 7:13really hard to pull them apart and couldn't do it. But yeah, so
- 7:16that's available now on our patian. So it's what goes over an hour.
- 7:19We review bigger, longer, own cut, which is just it was as
- 7:21good as I remember to being. It really was, and it's a lot
- 7:24of us doing this. That's right, Tom. So come to Forefinger Discount
- 7:30if you want John love Its foys, and then go to go down to
- 7:33South Park if you want Tray Parker. They're not very dissimilar. I want
- 7:41to hear it was John love It's every one South Park. I don't think
- 7:44the trade Parker, John Lovett's off. Oh my gosh, Well there we
- 7:46go. You're the You're the king of you know, mash ups and yeah,
- 7:50videos and things like that make it happen. I just have fear.
- 7:53Just as you're talking there see behind you up from the wall there, I've
- 7:56got Walter and Statler from Muppets, right, but they're thinking, oh,
- 8:00that didn't sound good. I was starting to fall. It happened love of
- 8:05the show. None of us made that happen. That this happened by a
- 8:09spooky guy. I can't see what happened. Are they in a million pieces?
- 8:11Can you turn a man? Tell you what happened? Is it broken?
- 8:13They're in pieces? It doesn't look broken. It just looks disassembled.
- 8:18Okay, let's have a look. Okay, I'm gonna what this is staying
- 8:22in the show. We ever looked. You can come and take this.
- 8:24I'm gonna have to vamp on this. It does look a little broken.
- 8:28Oh boy, folks, if you've everyone wanted what a grown man crying looks
- 8:35like and sounds like, well, that's going to be our pal Brendan Dando
- 8:39in a moment maybe Okay, oh hey, he's back is I'm not upset
- 8:45because you can just click it back together. I'm not upset. I'm just
- 8:50disappointed off the wall. I'm glad that it fell off on the show though.
- 8:54I was like I could see something and you can hear it in the
- 8:56background. God, that was so fucking creepy because it were just like there's
- 9:00something behind you and then you're pointing and then to hear this. Why have
- 9:05you invited me over to a haunted house? It's wrong with you? But
- 9:09we want to get into the will. Yeah, all these funk pops could
- 9:15be your but the yeah, so you can also finally scusive and the patron
- 9:18we're gonna be doing margin was the monorail we're going to be doing for what
- 9:22was it the super Nicety for Seinfeld and a bunch, I mean, just
- 9:26got Tenam and must die as well. We are doing we are doing Skipperheads,
- 9:28we are doing Rewinds, We're jumping all over the shop. Yeah.
- 9:33Sometimes, you know, not taking the road less travel. I mean it
- 9:39can be entertaining and fun. I mean, particularly when you sort of end
- 9:41up with season eighteen, episode two of The Simpsons, Jazzy and the Pussy
- 9:46Guests, which was an episode that I was like, it just felt so
- 9:48much of the same stuff I've already seen before. Like in my notes,
- 9:52I had things like, you know, Lisa Bean jealous of a but be
- 9:54successful or something. We'll take it before the White Stripes guest appearance, wh
- 10:00still words, but it was so much. It was just like a rinse
- 10:01and repeat of Metallica. Don't you reckon It last week? Pretty much?
- 10:05Yeah, I mean when I first heard about it, I'm like, because
- 10:09I couldn't remember this episode at all, I was like, oh, White
- 10:11Stripes, it's cool. I mean, and you know, Jack White,
- 10:15especially I think has dabbled in acting. I think he's been in a few
- 10:18movies. I thought, well, they you know, maybe they're going to
- 10:20be, if not a pivotal part of the episode, a little more present
- 10:24than they were. But it was really just it was stunt casting. It's
- 10:28what it's become. It has become stunt casting. And I remember because this
- 10:31episode was heavily market I couldn't remember last week with Metallica, but this one
- 10:33was definitely marketed as guest stars this week the white stripes, and I was
- 10:37like, and what shripes were hot? Still at that point that their album
- 10:39came out, The Big One? What was the big one? Was it?
- 10:43I had seven Elephant Elephant which had hardest button but the hardest button to
- 10:48button, and seven Nation Army on it the really big one. And I
- 10:52remember being really excited for because I loved that album. And then when they
- 10:54were finished, I was like, Oh, that's really it. Then no,
- 10:58it's just a cameo, get it. I wouldn't cause the guest appearance
- 11:01it's a cameo. It is. Yeah, they're they're featured in a gimmicky
- 11:07little bit that really sort of was designed to show off what the animators could
- 11:11do, I guess, or it's like let's let the artists have a little
- 11:13fun, or let's show off what we can do. And it was fine
- 11:18because who doesn't like here in the riff from hardest button to button, and
- 11:20it's just it's just trying to replicate the film clip for it, because that's
- 11:22what happens in the film clip. But I did like the take there with
- 11:26the drums smashing together. Yeah, that sort of was that was simpsonized.
- 11:30But yeah, besides, I was like, yeah, this isn't really much
- 11:31at all. That's all you got to it. I mean. And the
- 11:33other thing about this episode was it felt like, well, what if I
- 11:37said here, something I've written down is you guys are working really working really
- 11:43hard to connect these two storylines that don't really seem that well connected. And
- 11:46they even acknowledge that. I don't think they've ever actually acknowledged that the story
- 11:50structure before. It's like, I didn't think they're gonna end up intertwining these
- 11:52two stories. And I'm like, you knew it was so forced you have
- 11:56to actually acknowledge it. Yeah, I mean, winning out that something isn't
- 12:01working is not necessarily an escape hatch. Nah, not at all. No,
- 12:05And I just thought that they tried really hard to make out some emotion
- 12:09with Bart's sacrificing the money at the end for Lisa's animal shelter. But it's
- 12:13like that wasn't even paid off. It wasn't what I mean actually building that
- 12:20shelter, Like what it just felt like what what kind of ending was that?
- 12:22It was very abrupt, wasn't I mean I had actually written ow,
- 12:26oh it just ended. Yeah, okay, yeah, I mean that's what
- 12:30it was. And I thought it was going to have like a bit more
- 12:33of a cynical ending where it's like all these people have rocked up and it's
- 12:35like we're going to fix Barts and we're not going to make an amusement park
- 12:39for crummy old animals. Yeah, but they seemed to not care. Yeah.
- 12:43I mean it was totally kind of all over the place, which makes
- 12:46sense for a jazz episode because jazz is all over the place, don't But
- 12:52yeah, sometimes it felt like it had that harsh ladder or sort of not
- 12:58latter day Simpsons, but this sort of teen Simpsons tone of and I'm sorry
- 13:03to keep up, you know, plucking all the same hard but family family
- 13:07guysh you know. I was like, yeah, let's be a bit crude
- 13:09and cruel and cynical, not too much, but a bit. But it's
- 13:13like, we're Bart with smoking weed, right, I'm like, hang on,
- 13:16this needs to be addressed, moll. This can't be a throwaway gag
- 13:18with ten year old Barts smoking weed in the attic with these two jazz musicians.
- 13:22Yeah. I mean, look, it's a sort of a tried and
- 13:24true cliche that I guess that jazz music was like weed, but yeah,
- 13:28having a ten year old boy doing it, it's a bit sus. We're
- 13:31not trying to be Scolds or Hallmontors here. It just doesn't really it doesn't
- 13:35sit comfortably at all. That would be the story that would be a plot
- 13:39point in the Simpsons. Yeah, because I just thought that the story what
- 13:45did I have? I did write what I think the story would have been
- 13:46better. I'd have made this more about Lisa becoming Bart's manager. She's realizing
- 13:52that they want Barts, so she's like, Okay, how can I get
- 13:54myself involved in this and hopefully they'll eventually see my talents. So she offers
- 13:58to be like Bart's manager or whatever, much like Gill does, and then
- 14:01she can be part of the jazz scene. But then she sees the side
- 14:03that she doesn't tend to agree with a bart getting brought into it, offered
- 14:05weed or whatever. She sees the dark side of the jazz. I say
- 14:09dark side, you know what I mean, like the side that she doesn't
- 14:09agree with, and then she starts to question whether this is her dream or
- 14:13not. It's a very good point, yeah, or a very good way
- 14:15of looking at it all. You know, things get way too commercialized,
- 14:18and Lisa's kind of like, well, I'm a true artist when it comes
- 14:22to jazz and all that kind of stuff. So she gets a little disenchanted
- 14:24with the whole scene or something like that, like Ned questioning his faith precisely,
- 14:28right, Yeah, I mean, and well, we had something not
- 14:33dissimilar with the I guess was the Idle episode where Homer became Lisa's manager.
- 14:37Excited yea, yeah, yeah, I mean, I know, I get
- 14:43the feeling this is going to be a bit of a theme moving forward.
- 14:45Before ving a discount us fixing episodes, Yeah, we say fixing, it's
- 14:50just offering our two sets. We're doing the ken Brock offering out two sets.
- 14:56But look, I mean, I can't I can't say this was terrible
- 15:00episode. I wasn't watching and go, oh my God, you guys have
- 15:03just lost it. But it just felt like rinse and repeat for so many
- 15:05differences. But to me, the Lisa getting jealous of bar success is such
- 15:09an old, boring story by this point. It's like, I've seen this
- 15:11so many times in the past. That's the side of Lisa that's never funny.
- 15:16Not really. No. I mean if we and we've seen episodes of
- 15:20Bart getting jealous of Lisa, I mean, yeah, one or two it
- 15:22means summer four foot two. Yeah, that's really the one that springs to
- 15:26mind. But I mean, if you're going to recycle this story, this
- 15:31story of Lisa getting jealous of a bar, then I'm sure you can do
- 15:35vice versa more than once. I'm sure they have, but not as many
- 15:39incidents spring to minds as this particular one. Hey, my favorite. Did
- 15:43you have any favorite moments in this episode? I did, actually look.
- 15:46I thought there were actually a few good gags, and it wasn't bad.
- 15:50It was just like I said, it was just kind of like, I
- 15:52feel like I've seen this so many times, that's all. It felt a
- 15:54little bit recycled, and also felt like, oh, I can really see
- 15:58the stitches here, like a bit of a Frankenstein's Monster. It's like you've
- 16:02sort of put a few things together. Well, this is really the season
- 16:06where they were working on during the movie. So I feel like, because
- 16:07I thought it season seventeen, apparently this season eighteen where you're going to really
- 16:11start to see not necessarily bad episodes, but just episodes where it just feels
- 16:15like they're kind of thrown in the towel a little bit, sort of going
- 16:17through the motions. Yeah, I mean even going through the motions is still
- 16:22you know, pretty enjoyable. Yeah, and in this case favorite moments from
- 16:26guy. I thought there were a few good visual games. One I really
- 16:29enjoyed was at the funeral where the I want to say pink bond walls,
- 16:33but they're not. They're they're tellable. Yeah, yeah, what do you
- 16:36call that? What do you call those little bats? I just got baton
- 16:38ball, That's what I've said. Yeah, okay, the ball from baton
- 16:41ball. They're going all over the place. One ends up in the throat
- 16:44of the blue Man groups as well eventually comes out like oh when he goes
- 16:48yeah, and he turns yellow because he's been blue as been joking. That's
- 16:52not bad. Funny. Oh, I've got more blue highlighted, but sorry,
- 16:56green highlighted my notes, and I thought I did. Maybe this struck
- 17:02home because I've mentioned the lovely Louise's little dog Raffie on more than one occasional
- 17:07the show, and people said, yeah, we don't want to hear about
- 17:10your dog, but that dog scratches at the back door a lot, sing
- 17:14I want to get a time and then it goes it's other two seconds.
- 17:15I want to come back in, damn dog. But the ghost dog scratching
- 17:19at the door I thought was actually not too bad, not too bad.
- 17:26Speaking of one liners and wordplay, I really should have written down the names
- 17:30of all the jazz musicians on but there was too many. I started.
- 17:33I was like, no, I've stopped too many. So Dan and I
- 17:37have a gentleman's agreement. We're not doing that's not going to be a Drivia
- 17:40quick And I was just like, I know, I felt like not that
- 17:44the episode was running along, and I this gag. Is it funny anymore?
- 17:45They said, it said way too many? Yeah, I mean there
- 17:48are instances when a gag can go on too long and it sort of circles
- 17:52in on itself and it's like I always become funny again, I mean Brakes
- 17:56in Cape Fears. But yeah, this just was like and either you've gone
- 18:03way too long, you've done another, you've done one too many rounds of
- 18:06the circuit, or you haven't gone far enough. But it was it was
- 18:08twenty two mini rakes. Pretty, that's very bizarre. I was like twenty
- 18:15names you've had out there were a hell of a lot. It was like
- 18:18two like gag Ones amongst all that. I was like, oh god,
- 18:19the one I liked was pre marital Sex Dead. Yeah, that was pre
- 18:22marital sex Dead. I thought, what was pretty? He said riches Akai,
- 18:26who is just And there was there was a Graining a cameo in this
- 18:29again was and I know George Meyer. Was it George Myros when he was
- 18:32walking past the down the street George Yeah, Graining, Like I know that
- 18:37who kind of looks like Mac Graining. Yeah, yeah, anyway, But
- 18:41what else I have sort of touted myself. I was like, I like
- 18:45Yazz and I don't know. I think my taste might be what the kids
- 18:48called basic Bitch. You'd like that album down there, that Dynamite one.
- 18:53This the soundtrack that the White Vinyl s there, oh dolomite, dolo white,
- 18:57so not done dolomite, oh man. But yeah, I do enjoy
- 19:03the jazz that I enjoy, and I know that jazzmins's gonna be self indulgent
- 19:07enough that this gag actually was pretty funny. This the gig goes for eight
- 19:12hours and there's two songs. Yes, And speaking of signs, the fact
- 19:18that the the circus was closed by popular dem I wouldn't see that line.
- 19:22Okay, it's that signed alright, mine were so the White Struts crashing into
- 19:26bart. I like that little piss take. I like the Blue Man Group
- 19:29spinning at the balls. I was like, that makes sense. And I
- 19:32liked the lease of walking sequence, which I thought you would have appreciated it
- 19:33as well. Very resivoi dogs. It was using a little green bag like
- 19:37that. Yeah, and also it's the there's a shot where she's walking with
- 19:41the raccoon, the bird and on the front cover of the Getaway Chili Pepper's
- 19:44album, It's got the bear, but here she had other animals. But
- 19:45that's why they had the raccoon and the bed. Yeah, because the girl
- 19:49walking down the street has animals. There we go, next question, You're
- 19:53there eating the baste. All right, it's time now for some and trivia.
- 19:56Before we do that, we're going to read out, well, I'm
- 19:59going to read out the name of our incredible supporters. I'm Patreon, our

- 20:55Thank you so much for being our supporters of ours on Patreon. It's
- 20:57been a long time since I've heard those names dropped from Dane's lips. It
- 21:00was like revisiting old buddy. I gotta say I added a loop here,
- 21:06but you said Talia Lara, Yeah, it's not I don't know, it's
- 21:10Enriquez. I don't know, is she She's not Enriquez anymore? She tied
- 21:15the knot what's going on. It might be a different person. We might
- 21:18have two Talia's, or its Tali or Talia Is it spelled the same with
- 21:22nah, because Talia or Talia Enriquez has th h This is thah, So
- 21:27this is Talia. I reckon. Oh okay, that's oh wow, We've
- 21:30got hey whi Enrique? Yeah, come back. Very nice to hear from
- 21:38all of you, Very nice to hear those names again and thank you from
- 21:41the bottom of their hearts and other parts. Because yeah, like, as
- 21:45we like to say, you keep the wall from the door and you keep
- 21:48the lights one Dano and Risotto and me and door Dash. What's your favorite?
- 21:52Door Dashmo? Like, well, you're you have like favorites. I'm
- 21:56assuming you'd be one of those people has like favorites, right, Uh.
- 21:59Yeah, Well I haven't dont As for a while, but it was it
- 22:02was Macis for a bit and are back when the Macis bandwagon. So I
- 22:07haven't had it for six months whatever. I had some I don't know what
- 22:10you have. What I want to say, the traditional quarter band of mill
- 22:14is it because they had the monopoly Again. No, I've never really played
- 22:17the I'm just trying to get the free ship. But I think I was
- 22:21into like, oh, they've got a raspberin custard pie. I kind of
- 22:22like the limited edition. Limited limited. I'm utterly predictable at this point and
- 22:30always have been. I'm sorry, but yeah, limited stuff. I mean,
- 22:33I'm looking at the menu now, it's like we're bringing in the mccrunchy
- 22:37and I'm like, oh, I can just imagine I have like a board
- 22:40meeting at like North Sholomcdon's going, Davis hasn't been here for like three months
- 22:42down what are we doing? It's like, I mean, what was the
- 22:45flavor you just said, raspberin casters, raspberin custard pies. Can we bring
- 22:48that back? He might? And the like they played the trade, They
- 22:52played the ad on TV and you look at the windows. Just the work
- 22:55of standing at the front like Michael Myers of the knife, but the holdier
- 22:57bag with apple pie and everyone's want to slide in the door and leaving it
- 23:03My funniest thing, right, speaking of ads at work add songs at work.
- 23:07So I mentioned it recently that Alliott likes the KFC song. Right.
- 23:11So we're watching the Porpatron movie yesterday at the cinema and they start playing that
- 23:14song right that I love it, Rights, It's like the finale song they're
- 23:18getting the bad Guy. And Elliott just told me songs goes. Does somebody
- 23:21say KFC? Everyone's in a pistoimselves laughing, what a little listen? Does
- 23:29somebody say KFC? I normally don't approve of people sort of doing the mystery
- 23:36science. The other thing in crowded cinemas and like, I'm funny in the
- 23:40movie. Check it out. But honestly, that would have cracked me in
- 23:41a five year old. It's brilliant. Having said that, I discovered a
- 23:51very nice menu hack, not a not a menu hack. You'll be on
- 23:56the menu hacks. I'm like, and they've d hacked it. You can't
- 23:57do it anymore. I'm so sad. Yeah, man, that's that is
- 24:02a damn show. But on the on the door, Dash discovered a local
- 24:06restaurant called Dante's Hot Chicken. Chicken in the titles immediately captures my attention.
- 24:11Yeah, especially if it's hot chicken. Yeah, hot to it. It's
- 24:12like, oh sort of actually yeah, chuck on, You're like shit,
- 24:15oh yeah, but no, I had a very nice meal from them the
- 24:19other night. Okay, where they look they are they're based on cry I
- 24:23believe. Okay, cool, this good luck Chicken joints out that side of
- 24:26Gelong. It's like, I don't dare venture that territory. It's like,
- 24:30but they've got good food, bring it to me. I'm happy. Don't
- 24:33make me go there. If New Roadhouse right has like upgraded, like million
- 24:37dollars upgrades it's like a fancy restaurant now, like a truckers. You're going
- 24:40in and it's like vintage cars around and stuff, and they're got to drive
- 24:42through and everything. Oh my gosh. Okay, well and you get it.
- 24:45You can get a Palmy drink and chips for eighteen dollars. That sounds
- 24:48very reasonable. Yes it does in these particularly tough cost of living times.
- 24:55It's pretty good deal. Yes, very good deal. Indeed. So it
- 24:57come to Gelong people and ride the road, go to Creo and they just
- 25:03opened up the it's called I'm trying to get them on board like support,
- 25:06like support the show general public. So basically it's like time Zone combined me
- 25:10with tenpin bowling combined with like an eady like uncle most family feedbag combined with
- 25:15like slate bar all in one place. Holy shit, it's downstairs at Kryat
- 25:18village. Now it's a whole you go down. It's just like unbelievable.
- 25:21All right, we'll get on the phone or visit them in person. So,
- 25:23hey, you want to be part of four finger discount, Get out
- 25:26of here, do it? Do it? Guys? All right? So
- 25:29my first trivia question anyway, trivia. Oh you hit me with your first
- 25:32question. First of it, I'll go first, all right, I shall
- 25:34get my notes back up. My first trivia question for you is what is
- 25:37Homer's Mexican wrestling ame. It is tuckle Belly. Yes, correct. That
- 25:42sounds like a name of a restaurant. It sounds like a name you'd give
- 25:45a restaurant. Yeah, and have like a fat dude. It's like your
- 25:47logo. It's a very happy Hispanic gentleman. I'm very happy. Oh my
- 25:53god, we're getting canceled. Speaking of names, what is Homer's vague wife's
- 26:00middle name? I didn't pay attention to that as Amber, her last name
- 26:03was not heard? Was it was? I heard? She actually kept her
- 26:07married names. She went by Simpsons. Did she care? What was it?
- 26:11But her middle name was pie Gal? Okay, what do you think
- 26:14of that? We'll get to that when we get to the episode. Let's
- 26:17leave something something actually of the show. What next one is? Sorry is
- 26:22I we've already done it? How long was the benefit? And you've already
- 26:23answered that one before eight hours? What's your next one? My next question
- 26:30is what record label did Homer one bart to sign a contract? Oh naw,
- 26:34you got me again. What is it? It's groove tone. Roove
- 26:37tone, that's the one. Yeah, he's very big on groove tone.
- 26:40Wasn't he loved groove tone? There home seems like a bit of a jazz
- 26:44fan, even though he never really sort of listened to it all that much.
- 26:47On the show, he brings it up a lot. I think it's
- 26:48sunk in by osmosis just by having at least just playing all the time like
- 26:52that. Yeah. My fine one for you is what was the subheading of
- 26:56the sugar sheet? What was on the front? Oh it was we asked
- 27:00these of the questions blow and didn't ask we not with bart because the same
- 27:04thing. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, I was actually gonna you
- 27:08ever have a rivalry when you were working at it, like say for the
- 27:11Addie Wall who was a rival for the Addie because the Addy pretty much runs
- 27:15the town when it comes to newspapers. Certainly did, Yeah, I mean
- 27:18no, I don't think we think we were kind of like swing around like
- 27:22the big Dog. I mean, you know, there was the Geelong News
- 27:26and the Gelong Independent and all that kind of stuff, but the Independent was
- 27:29across the road, right, Yeah, the Gelong News was actually part of
- 27:32the Addie, I guess family family. Yeah, yeah, So no,
- 27:38I don't think we ever really had any competition. I mean, I know
- 27:41when I was working for Impress up in Melbourne, which is now called The
- 27:45Music and doesn't actually get published anymore now it's just online. But there were
- 27:48two street papers in Melo. There was Beaten Impress, and I was over
- 27:51mind that. I mean, I actually sort of lovied to work for both
- 27:53when I first sort of throwing my hat out there, and luckily I got
- 27:59impressed. But I think be thought though, were actually pretty good enough.
- 28:03I think they actually are still around. So but yeah, but there was
- 28:07a bit of a rivalry in that case. But no, the Eddie was
- 28:10like, well you can't completely You've got guy Davidson, boy Kenya. That
- 28:12is correct. All right. On that note, let's get into a review
- 28:18of Jazzy and the pussy Cats. Let's see, have one more question for
- 28:21me. I had a few more, shright, hit me with two more
- 28:23and we'll get into it. Okay, what was the name of the circus
- 28:26that Lisa took all the others? I was like, shameful brothers. It
- 28:29was the Shameful Brothers. Indeed, And what was the nerve that was going
- 28:33to be reattached in Barts. Ah fuck na, no, no idea.
- 28:36It was the All Nah, which could be an actual nerve. I don't
- 28:38know who. No, I'm not a doctor. No, I wouldn't be
- 28:42podcasting about the Simpsons if I was. So. The visual air date of
- 28:47Jazzy and the Pussycats. Actually, before we get into that, the title
- 28:49is a play on what It's pretty obvious this one, but well, paint
- 28:55the famous all girl trio from the from the Archie cartoons. They pretty much
- 28:59like Scooby Doo rock and roll band, I think so. Yeah, yeah,
- 29:03I mean they were a band who solved mysteries. Right, I've never
- 29:06read the comics and watched the show, but yet I only vaguely remember there
- 29:10was a bit of a spin off and yeah, okay, yeah. During
- 29:11the opening, crowds like, are they like solving mysteries? Are they been
- 29:15chased my monsters? I thought they were rock and roll band? What's going
- 29:18on? But anyway, but they also made a movie Jo. Yeah they
- 29:21did in the early two thousands. Any good, it's great. Actually,
- 29:25I was really surprised because you know, I went to gonna It's gonna suck
- 29:30yeah, and it's really smart, really funny. The three leads are fantastic,
- 29:36one of those Rosario Dawson aka really yeah, yeah, yeah, and
- 29:41no, it's a it's a lot of fun. It's a bit of it.
- 29:42I want not even a Colt hit. It's kind of a did well
- 29:45it did it did Okay, did pretty well. But yeah. Ever since
- 29:48then, it's like, you know, it's really good. It's Joey and
- 29:51the Pussycats, and you'll have a lot of you know, middle aged dudes
- 29:52like me saying, yeah, it actually is pretty good, and not because
- 29:56it's three good looking ladies playing music in Pussycat kind of like Charlie's Angels where
- 30:02they just people didn't expect it to be good. And I was like,
- 30:03oh, it's actually not bad. Yeah, it's got that same sort of
- 30:07sugar rushed nostalgia as well. Yeah yeah, no, it's it's a lot
- 30:10of fun. Okay, cool, I might check that one out, all
- 30:11right. So the air date was September seventeenth, two thousand and six.
- 30:15So how long ago was that twenty seven? Fifteen, seventeen years ago?
- 30:22Twenty Yeah. I was like, it's like, not twenty seven, it's
- 30:25not fifteen there's something between a process of elimination, we'll get there, or
- 30:30we could use the calculator. Yes we could. Yeah, so ten days
- 30:33ago it was seventeen years to the day. It was written by Daniel Chun,
- 30:38who went on to become the head writer of The Office, the US
- 30:41version, which apparently they say they're going to reboot. Oh shit, really
- 30:45yeah, yeah, I'm not I'm keen on that, nor am mine.
- 30:48All I say, I'm not really a huge fan of the you know,
- 30:52I only started watching it when our man Pat writ and his lovely wife Katie
- 30:55started doing the Office Top podcast. Yeah, and I've always been going to
- 30:59watch it and I've enjoying it. But basically what I'm doing is I'm watching
- 31:00it along with the episodes because I'm editing it for him. So I'm just
- 31:03like, I don't want to get ahead. I want to enjoy it with
- 31:06the podcast. But yeah, I'm enjoying it so far. There is a
- 31:08lot of like, really really awkward humor, to the point Whe'm just like,
- 31:11I'm feeling uncomfortable and not in a funny way. All right, Yeah,
- 31:15I mean no, I don't know. I'm just not a huge fan
- 31:18of that whole mockumentary breaking the Fourth Wall, and it's just been done too
- 31:22much. Now yeah, and I mean this is me showing my age as
- 31:25well. But I mean I don't like comedy that seems sort of built for
- 31:27the memes, and a lot of that seems like it was built for the
- 31:30memes. I mean, if I ever see someone not ever because you know
- 31:34it's going to happen again, but someone backing up a claim they've made on
- 31:40social media with that Dwight shrewd thing of sort of him whispering it's true.
- 31:45Yeah, although it's happening, it's happening. Yeah, or anything with Steve
- 31:49Brown. I'm like, here's an alternative point off mean that people, and
- 31:56it was directed by Stephen and Dean or he's been with the show for a
- 31:59very long time. I'm going to favorite episodes are in March, be not
- 32:01Proud. There was no chalk gag this week. There was a catch gate
- 32:06Dog, which I really enjoyed. I liked the King Kong one. Yeah,
- 32:07it wasn't bad. Were Homer is King Kong pan out from the house
- 32:10and it's basically in the building as opposed to the house. There was a
- 32:15kicks off with the funeral for Homer's Vegas wife Amber at the at the church,
- 32:20which point I've written, we talk a lot about continuity on this show.
- 32:24Do we really need it? And we're going to be including things like
- 32:28this, Yeah, I don't know. It's like, why can we have
- 32:30Bart interrupt I know, the funeral for Homer's ex wife. I don't know.
- 32:34Just maybe they just wanted to just get that over and dumb. It
- 32:36was sort of like a cloud over the family that Yeah, I think they
- 32:39needed, they needed, but to act up in a way that would require
- 32:45some form of intervention because we're used to im acting up and it's kind of
- 32:49like, oh, Bart will be Bart. But if he really sort of
- 32:53goes overboard at a at an event that's meant to be sort of somber and
- 32:58you're meant to be respectful and he just turns it into an absolute shit show,
- 33:01there's a good chance that they're gonna have to sort of seek some form
- 33:05of treatment or whatever, which you know is the inciting incident. Why the
- 33:08funeral was in Springfield, though, is beyond me, because she went back
- 33:10to Vegas. Yeah, on legs odd but whatever. As I said,
- 33:15I think they just wanted to wrap up that little plot line. They left,
- 33:21didn't they They came back to try and they said because they get divorced.
- 33:23Because they came back they tried to like take over the family again something
- 33:28like that. Yeah, and yeah with them not a not a great episode,
- 33:30and that they ran away. I know then they ran away with whoever.
- 33:35But yeah, just yeah, it was just odd to have her return
- 33:37as Buck calls a malt like a mummy, and all the people from the
- 33:39casino were there. She overdosed apparently. I did like the gag of the
- 33:44sign says to set up on a roller coaster, she ever dosed in front
- 33:45of it. I loved how sort of snippy Marge wasn't about as you would
- 33:51be though. Oh god, it's like class all the way. It's like
- 33:53you won. She's dead. But I don't know. I just feel like
- 33:58if Nicola had like an ex husband. I like that guy especially, it
- 34:04was just like a stripper or something. Well, it was magic, and
- 34:07she was already with me when she started going and getting made with it.
- 34:13You would be just fun being upset. Yes, but this is a very
- 34:15two thousand and six thing where but puts the laser on Reverend Love Joyce.
- 34:19I was like, remember when that was a thing? Oh, it's right,
- 34:22you realize you could crash a plane doing that? Could you? Could
- 34:24you? Could you actually blind people? Maybe you've got in the right spot.
- 34:28But like there's always that fear when a kid at school have when I
- 34:30was like, really scared I could get blinded by this thing. Yeah,
- 34:34And there's aways that one kid used to like shine it in your eye just
- 34:36to be a prick. And it's like, why why are you doing this?
- 34:38Oh, by the way, I've got a story. Oh my god,
- 34:42how did I start with this? Holy Molly? All right? So
- 34:45you may have noticed how Gara's door has got three footprints in it, right,
- 34:49you didn't notice that yet. I did not notice that, but I
- 34:51will. I'll have look on the way out. So it is Saturday.
- 34:53Nice? Actually sorry, now you have four so four I've basically given away
- 34:59the story. Basically what happened was four so nights to be on Saturday night,
- 35:02we hear this boom. Why here is banging at two o'clock in the
- 35:05morning on the garage door. And I was like, sound like something had
- 35:07fallen over against the garage door on the inside. So I went and so
- 35:09I had to look nothing. Now, I'm like, weird, what Maybe
- 35:14the wind blew it, maybe a bird flew into it, who knows.
- 35:15I looked at the front I couldn't see anybody, and Nicholas like, what
- 35:19are you doing. I'm like, I think someone fell over and something fell
- 35:21over in the garage. She's like, oh, Bud, And in about
- 35:22ten minutes goes by me. Yeah, boom boom on the garage door again.
- 35:27And I immediately started going, that's definitely someone banging on the garage,
- 35:30right, So I locked the first thing it was. I locked the garage
- 35:32door from the inside. Think someone could be in the garage. I lock
- 35:36it right. I go in the house, just locking every door as quietly
- 35:38as I can. I was like a little bit scared, right, well,
- 35:40it could be home inversion. Yeah, yeah, I'm thinking this could
- 35:43be people in their backyards. I'm loocking all the doors, and as I'm
- 35:45bad to hop back into bed, I look at the window one more time.
- 35:46Behind the curtain. I said, this figure coming across our neighbor's lawn
- 35:49towards our house. Again. They look like that was sort of stumbling,
- 35:51and I was like, oh shit, we got an is adict or something,
- 35:53just like he's gonna be banging on the door. I'm like, oh
- 35:55God, I said the nickel pinna get the cops on the speed die because
- 35:59this guys coming back again. And for some reason, I don't know what
- 36:01got into me. It's kind of like when Nicholas saw that guy that gave
- 36:04us the fake ticket on the subway in New York. He's about to come
- 36:07to the house again, and asked, went what the are you doing?
- 36:09And the person fell over, sort of stumbled, and I ran out the
- 36:12front. It didn't even think it just sort of ran at the front.
- 36:15And they went into a house about four houses down the street, over the
- 36:17back fence, and I realized it was a young kid and Nicholas, it's
- 36:21those fucking boys live over there. Say boys live over there, right.
- 36:22So the mother had left twelve unaccompanied the miners, the oldest being fourteen,
- 36:29at their house and going to her boyfriend's place and left them by themselves.
- 36:32Boy and they thought at two in the morning they'd go around and start kicking
- 36:35people's garage doors in because that would be funny, right. So I'm at
- 36:38the front of the street at like twenty pasts two in the morning, saying
- 36:40get them out here. Now you've got thirty seconds to come out here and
- 36:44explain yourself. I'm getting the cops here. Blah blah blah. The two
- 36:46boys that lived there came out, Oh, we're so sorry. We were
- 36:49asleep. We didn't know what happened. They came inside saying, turned the
- 36:51lights off and locked the doors. Blah blah blah. Eventually got the kids
- 36:52at the front, and it was like tandem standing at the front, and
- 36:54I said, look, I don't care. I was young once, you
- 36:58know, but I threw rocks on russe and prank phone. So I didn't
- 37:00keep people's garage doors. And I said, soon you'll be my age,
- 37:01and you'll realize you have to work hard for this ship. So either his
- 37:05parents are paying for it, his mothers paying for or your parents are paying
- 37:07for it. So I got the kids named blah blah blah blah, and
- 37:09he admitted that he was just fly kicking at garage. I'm like, what's
- 37:14wrong with people? Yeah, what is wrong with people? So basically,
- 37:16then like the mother the next day came over and she was like, oh,
- 37:19yeah, I know. I told him he's a dickhead, you know,
- 37:21And I was like, it's actually not funny, like, yeah,
- 37:22he's broken our garage door. By the way, do you bring a checkbook?
- 37:25Yeah? And she's like she's like, oh, well, likes his
- 37:29mum said, his dad's gonna pay for it. I'm like, can have
- 37:30his dad's phone, Uber, then don't have his dad's phone ver, but
- 37:31I've got his mum's phone. Numb like, can have his mum's phone,
- 37:34um, But I don't think she want me to give you the phone number.
- 37:36I'm like, well, you've got to the end of today to get
- 37:37me with the dad's phone number. We're always going to pay for it,
- 37:39or we'll have to get the police involved. She's no, No, I
- 37:42don't need to get the police involved. I'm like, well I will if
- 37:44you don't give me the details of the person who's going to pay for the
- 37:46door. And of course I have not heard from this person since. Oh
- 37:49my god. So I've called the cops and the cops are gonna come over.
- 37:52They're like, wait a minute, how many kids were there? I
- 37:52was like ten. She's like, where was the mother? I was like,
- 37:54at her boyfriend's place. But when I called up the mother the next
- 37:57day to say I've got a phone number. She was like, oh,
- 38:00I told him they weren't ready, but they set me out anyway. I'm
- 38:04like, they're twelve and fourteen. They didn't send you anywhere. Irresponsible,
- 38:06bitch, What I mean, sent you out, That's what I mean.
- 38:08She's like, your kids are twelve and fourteen. You let them have it.
- 38:12Was like, I think it went to be like twelve thirteen kids over,
- 38:15the oldest being fourteen. And she said they set me out anyway.
- 38:17I'm like, you went to your boyfriend's place. Oh god, you know
- 38:22what it is as the kids parents don't actually know. The kid's mother doesn't
- 38:24actually know that she was left. He was left by himself without any parent
- 38:28there, which is why she doesn't want me to get in contact with the
- 38:30mother because she doesn't know the father. She only knows the mother actually drove
- 38:36past the house yesterday when I was kicking the ball of Elliot at the front,
- 38:37and she put her head down and did this. I'm like, you're
- 38:42there, you're not elon musk. It's not a self drug. So she
- 38:47like made it. She was trying to change your radio. She put her
- 38:50head right down looking at it, and I was like I know where you
- 38:52live. I could literally like fart and you could smell it. That's how
- 38:54close you out to my house. You should be a shame. You should
- 38:57be bloody putting your head down. But still she was like, oh,
- 39:00I don't think this needs to be replaced. You probably just popped that back
- 39:01out. I'm like, no, bitch, this door was fine until the
- 39:05kid that you left uncompany kick it in for no reason. What So we
- 39:07know She's like, oh, you know, kids are kids. I'm like,
- 39:10Nana, nah, kids, you are correcting. The kids are kids,
- 39:15yeah, except this kid's a little shit. Yeah. So I've heard
- 39:17nothing from her since. I've now been on the phone to the police this
- 39:21morning, and hopefully my garage door will be replaced very soon. Oh my
- 39:23goodness. Well, good neighbors do not become good friends. And we found
- 39:28out that apparently at quarter to two that night, a car was set on
- 39:30fire just around a corner from our house and a driveway, which I had
- 39:35no idea about. Coincidence, I fucking think not. I can't was that
- 39:39on fire. I cart was set on fire in the next street over at
- 39:43the front of their house. We got to get you out of here,
- 39:49and the last night, we were at the front and Nichola and I were
- 39:52standing there and we capt eleven kids walked into that house last night again and
- 39:55she wasn't there again. I'm like, how dumb are you you to have
- 40:00this incident happened and then leave them unaccompanied again. His boyfriend must be a
- 40:07wizard in the sack. But basically, the cop was like, I imagine
- 40:10she's just like, fuck, these kids want to get away. The cop
- 40:15was like, just so you know, this is probably gonna be a child
- 40:16Services Services are incident now, because like, we can't have these kids being
- 40:21left by themselves, not if they're kicking in garage doors and quite possibly quote
- 40:28unquote yeah, holy moly, Oh my god, that's dreadful. So that
- 40:31was my Saturday night, and Aliet was it. He was in bed with
- 40:35this and he was terrified, tooking two hours to get back to sleep.
- 40:37He thought it was a monster outside. Yeah, oh man, oh god,
- 40:42Bart is looking angelic. I sort of kept my call when she came
- 40:45over and I said, but the thing is, though, like Aliet was
- 40:47terrified. He thought it was a monster as fire and she's like, oh,
- 40:50poor buggy, he'll get over it. And I said, no,
- 40:52we fucking won't. He said no, because get over, Like, no,
- 40:55what's wrong with you? My kids nervings are dead yet unlike yours.
- 41:00Yeah. So yeah, anyway, like I said, that was my Saturday.
- 41:07I watched the footy. So if you ever hear a bang on the
- 41:10garage door, don't think it's a bird's probably some child around the streets fight
- 41:14ticking it. And he's like, it's any constant because he was crying and
- 41:16stuff. It was any constellation. I think I've broken my toe. I'm
- 41:20like, mate, no sympathy from me. Yeah, I'm happy for that
- 41:25tiny bit of calma. But Fokey comes out and he goes, if it's
- 41:29anything, here's a dollar. I'm like, can't want your fucking dollar.
- 41:31I want your phone. No, get you get my money back, come
- 41:36back to me. I don't know. Maybe six hundred more times and maybe
- 41:40we can talk. Yeah. But the fact that I haven't even heard from
- 41:44the mother since I'm sorry I had to go through, that's you know,
- 41:47it's it's a red flag when we don't have to get the police involved.
- 41:52Yeah, because I think the police have been involved. I'm more than one
- 41:54again. Oh boy, I'm sorry, he had to go through that.
- 42:00The police involved Comma again again. Oh that's terrible. I'm gonna have a
- 42:08look at the door on the way out. It's funny how I just heard
- 42:12the term Motlock mummy and just reminded me of the story class all the way.
- 42:16Yeah, but yeah it was it was the laser. Yeah, so
- 42:20he's doing it, unloved Joy. He's basically just interrupting, being very disruptive.
- 42:22How many times going to start a story by having Bart's disruptive? He
- 42:25needs like drugs or he needs something else. At least this time they didn't
- 42:29put him back on drugs. But no, no, I mean, well
- 42:31we'll get to it, and we get to it. But yeah, the
- 42:34whole, the whole. The way the child psychologist or psychotrists explained you know
- 42:40why I'm putting him on drums as opposed to drugs. I thought it was
- 42:44actually pretty good. We'll talk about that in just a minute. I would
- 42:45just as well skip through to because basically just interrupt the Carle speech. Love
- 42:49joins up checking on the bat and ball. At first, I was like,
- 42:52where do these balls come from? Then I skipped back and then I
- 42:53saw the Blue Man group guys like when all these extra balls come from?
- 42:58Because I was taking notes, but yes, everyone's starting now choking on balls
- 43:01which came out of the Blue Man group, and everyone's pissed off at bart
- 43:05So we're now at the child mel I know in the Patrion group, like,
- 43:08let's start a tally one episode, so fast season eighteen, No side.
- 43:12Joe Meldon bang straight away on the board because I saw him behind Barton.
- 43:15I was like, yeah, here we go. Yeah, he's gonna
- 43:19say something. He's gonna have to say something. Of course he does.
- 43:22So they go to the child psychiatrist where imaginary friends come to die. I
- 43:25missed that part. That was the sign. Whenever I think of imaginary friend,
- 43:30I think have dropped dead. Fred Can like, did you like that
- 43:34movie when it came out? I loved it when I was a kid.
- 43:35It's very immature. I watched it a few years ago and I was like,
- 43:37I can see why five year old Brendan probably shouldn't have been watching this.
- 43:43Enjoyed it. It's a little bit much for kids. The Mega Bitch
- 43:46and yeah, yeah, yeah, I think even am Igin thinking this is
- 43:51just a bit much. I like Rick Mail, who doesn't like Phoebe Kate's.
- 43:55But at the same time, I was like, no, this is
- 43:58just a little over the time, a little too much. Yeah, yeah,
- 44:00yeah, But he thinks that Bart is seven because of his behavior,
- 44:05but now he's actually ten. Hams suggests put him on drugs, but then
- 44:07the psychiatrist suggests the drum kit, which you wanted to elibrate. Yeah,
- 44:10oh, I just like the way he explains, like drumming, rise,
- 44:14energy, and concentration. He's got too much in one and not enough of
- 44:16the other. Yeah that's logical. That makes a lot of sense. Yeah,
- 44:22it really does. But Bart is only enjoying it because he's imagining hitting
- 44:24Homer's face. And I remember specifically this was part of the promotion for the
- 44:29episode. Yeah, I don't know. Some episodes just seemed to stick with
- 44:30me, and I can remember specifically watching this one because it was the White
- 44:35Stripes one. I remember being excited for because I thought it was going to
- 44:37be a White Stripes episode. But yeah, I'm not sure I ever saw
- 44:40it when the first hit, Yeah, I remember watching it for sure.
- 44:44But then we get the hardest button to button take off, which is just
- 44:45taken off of the film clip which as a White Stripes fan, I enjoyed,
- 44:50but it just felt like the White Stripes cameo was a little bit the
- 44:53same. Same to Metalis a bit black last year as the same kind of
- 44:55thing. Remember last week when I was playing like don't and it's motto moving
- 44:59to the the beat of the music. This was the same thing where they
- 45:01was like chasing off the bart. No, no, no, I'm like,
- 45:05it just feels like you've just done the exact same thing. But then
- 45:08we were checking it out. It wasn't time. Hey kid, why don't
- 45:16you watch where you're drumming? Sorry, White Stripes, no hard feelings,
- 45:22let's kick his ass. Ah did they actually work it? So? Jack
- 45:43White and Meg White were married, no married, Yes, they weren't never
- 45:46brothers. They weren't brother and that they created that that whole thing. It's
- 45:50kind of like the same in the early years that you had that one you
- 45:52had Marilyn Manson gave himself can blow himself and that he killed a pig on
- 45:59stage. There was another one I remember once, Remember that one. I
- 46:01don't remember hearing that one. I know, the one about the ribs.
- 46:04Yeah, that was like the kids like did you know that he moved his
- 46:07ribs and Duck is a penis. But just imagining some kid coming up to
- 46:14the play. Have you heard about Marilyn Manson stuck his own penis? He
- 46:21was a scary guy though for kids men in that era, Like I was
- 46:22like, goodness, his hand and he like he terrified us. He looks
- 46:25scary. Oh absolutely did. Yeah. It means his music sort of pretty
- 46:30dark, and you know that whole persona was a little of pudding and a
- 46:34little kind of oh this guy could be a friend, And didn't realized oh
- 46:37fuck, it's all just smoking mirrors like anything else. He just seemed like,
- 46:39yeah, like sons of may, like, oh oh yeah, you
- 46:43look him now. I was like, honest, oh shit, you look
- 46:44like me Nana. He honestly looks like Nana. He does, Yeah,
- 46:49he really does. And then he also that he's real pricking Is he really?
- 46:52I didn't know that they are all A whole lot of women came forward
- 46:53and said he's a busy partner and all this kind of didn't he date Rose
- 46:58McGowan, He did. I She went to Red Carpet with like basically nothing
- 47:00on. She went on with like chain mail on. Yeah, it's just
- 47:04like to see through everything. I was like, I'm dad Jesus. Yeah,
- 47:08And it was one of the earlier ones, like Paul McCartney being dead,
- 47:12that was one of the early rumors that sort of started. Then you
- 47:14had was yours one biting the head of bat? Yeah, yeah, which
- 47:16I don't know still ever happened on is the jury sladder that one? Or
- 47:20either he bit the head off a live bat or a dead bat or a
- 47:23fake bat. I don't know. Yeah, I mean these urban legends sort
- 47:28of take on lives of their own, and then yeah, it's gets sort
- 47:30of harder and harder to verify. I mean, I'll wait to the well,
- 47:34Paul McCartney being dead is clearly not true, given that he's still kicking
- 47:37around touring at eighty eighty one. Is not sure. Yeah, he's like
- 47:42eighty something and he's coming out to tour. And Stones are in their ating.
- 47:45They just released a new album which I haven't heard yet, but they're
- 47:47released like twenty new albums. I think only Stones fans listening to the Stones
- 47:52to albums these days, right, That's like, it's like I've heard this
- 47:53one at least twenty times, but it's amazing. The cloud they still haven't
- 47:57that. Yeah, they released a video for their new one and what's the
- 48:01name Sydney Sweeney from you for it? Yeah, it is like the the
- 48:05engineer in it. Okay, a bad twenty years ago the Stones at the
- 48:08same thing, they released a video and Angelina Jolly was like the girl in
- 48:12It's like they're still still able to have always managed to just remain cool.
- 48:15I haven't it. I think Keith Riches goes a long way to do it
- 48:17like Jack. Yes, I think Keith Riches is call them Mit Jaker now,
- 48:21oh yeah, I think so. I think that's always kind of been
- 48:23the case as it always okay, yeah, but you're right with the white
- 48:28stripes, that element of are they brother and sister? Are they not added
- 48:30to their quirky sort of like image at the time, didn't it? Absolutely?
- 48:35Yeah? And it was that that that home porn with Meg White,
- 48:39which wasn't actually Meg White, but it looks just like me White. But
- 48:43I don't think she denied it for a long time because I think they were
- 48:45like sort of riding that wave of the pretty sad press. Yeah, the
- 48:49keeps in the keeps in the public eye, but it's not me. So
- 48:52I don't care if people are watching it, but yes I did. Like
- 48:58at the end though, whereas durn and and they're over the ridge. Yeah,
- 49:01yeah, that's very very lonely tunesque that was, wasn't it. Yeah,
- 49:05But yeah, you know you can do that with animation. But but
- 49:07he's now keeping Homer and Marge awake at night, and Homer's got the white
- 49:10noise machine, which worked wonders for my kids. If your kids aren't sleeping,
- 49:15white noise, it's just like the best I am using. Not necessarily
- 49:19white noise, but I will put on white stripes music, but YouTube videos
- 49:25of rain or just sort of like rainforest or ambient sounds. Family on the
- 49:30other night was like a cat purring in front of a fireplace. You just
- 49:37know it's just a fairy recording into a microphone. Guy having awakening and you
- 49:44hear a little fire cracker in the backgrounds, Like firecracker is nice, isn't
- 49:46it? Firecracker is nice? Yeah, And they've invariably got like these ai
- 49:52renditions of like it's a pieceful it or it's like it's the Hogwarts common room
- 49:55or something like that. It's like there's a whole bunch of nerds. It's
- 49:58falling asleep to that ship. It's weird how though you watch videos like that
- 50:00and you can always feel the warmth you can. It's bizarre how just like
- 50:05triggers that thing in your brain where you're sort of you're feeling it. Yeah,
- 50:07I mean it's weird. There are certain ones of that that I really
- 50:12enjoy. There's one that's not even an old timey train station. It's just
- 50:15like it'd been like the North Shore train station or something. But it's like
- 50:19it's raining and you're waiting for the train and oh no, actually no,
- 50:22the train's there, but it's going to be leaving in a minute. And
- 50:24it's like, oh, well, I'm undercover and it's nice and I'm bad
- 50:28to get on this train, which you know it's going to be nice and
- 50:30dry and it'll take me somewhere good. It's like your brain sort of fills
- 50:31in the blanks. You've got a little bit of room to drink any way
- 50:34to your girfriend's place when you're fourteen something like that. Yeah, but it's
- 50:42like, oh, why do I like this one? I mean, there's
- 50:44nothing happening in this video, but it's like sort of choosing my own adventure.
- 50:49Yeah, it's true. It's funny. Where we wrap presents for Christmas,
- 50:52Nickel always puts the fireplace on one of the TV because she so used
- 50:54to doing it fire so it's like she sort of tries to recapture that England
- 51:00vibe. You've just reminded me of something. I'd like to put this out
- 51:04to the to the listeners. Yeah, and to you, mister Dando,
- 51:07because you like it's either weird or weirdly relatable. Nothing's weird to me.
- 51:13It was our birth We both had birthdays not that long. I speaking of
- 51:15part of your presence down here, could give it you in a minute.
- 51:16Yet continue. Did you say you got me a tune of mel today?
- 51:21That's what I thought I heard. It was like, oh yum, speaking
- 51:24of presence. Now, this story may strike listeners. I may strike you,
- 51:30mister Dando, as weird or weirdly relatable. But we both had birthdays,
- 51:32didn't Yes, And I you know, I received some very nice gifts,
- 51:37but also some that arrived post birthday in the post you know I arrived
- 51:42at and it's like they haven't all arrived yet. I know that there's some
- 51:45more stuff coming and I'm going to open them all when they are really so
- 51:50there's this little pile of stuff that's still gathering. It's like a month ago
- 51:54too. Yeah, this stuff that you've bought for yourself. Some of it
- 51:58is and some of it is stuff that other people bore when it's like,
- 52:01oh, I haven't a chat catch up with you, but here it is.
- 52:04So I've I've got like one thing arriving I think by the end of
- 52:07the week, and that's when I'm gonna it's gonna there's like maybe five things.
- 52:13Yeah, like a couple of books and distance things like that. Doesn't
- 52:15matter how old you are. Still exciting, isn't it. And it's like
- 52:17I'm gonna have a little pile of gifts that I can just rip the wrapper.
- 52:21Oh do you know what they all are? Okay, some aren't even
- 52:25wrapped. Someone just didn't like bags from whether from the Bliss where they came
- 52:29from. I was like, I'm not going to look at it though,
- 52:30No, I'm not going to read the cover. So yeah, there's stuff
- 52:35still in the Amazon box. And was like not seeing it's like weird,
- 52:39It's not I did that as well. Yeah, look, just a little
- 52:42stockpile of gifts because because Nickela got some some stuff for me and I kind
- 52:45of like knew what it was. I was just sitting in here. You
- 52:46just open it ever you want. I'm like, I'm gonna be toss my
- 52:49birthday, you know, a little collection of stuff. Yeah, it doesn't
- 52:52matter how old you wake is. You're never too old to be excited for
- 52:54a birthday gift. But the other thing is there's something else that I hold
- 52:58it off Amazon, but I ordered off you know how when you're you go
- 53:00through Amazon Australia. Yeah, it's like, oh we've got that in stock
- 53:04at Amazon on Australia, or oh what's going to have to come from the
- 53:06US? I want a book of Amazon Astraa. And it took two days
- 53:07and it was here at my doorset. I was like, that is crazy.
- 53:10That happened to me as well. And they live on a Sunday on
- 53:13a Saturday night. For me, it was like five on a Saturday and
- 53:15this guy's like rocks up in like a uber card. It was like,
- 53:16here, I've got your Amazon thing. I'm like, really okay, cool?
- 53:21Yeah, post is too Amazon Prime. I'm like, this is madness.
- 53:24You say they're gonna you say they were going to see that they were
- 53:27going to put ads on Amazon Prime Videos. I did not see that.
- 53:30No, m not good, not good, no, if you're paying for
- 53:34it exactly. But then yeah, Fox started do the same. Yeah,
- 53:37and that's pay TV. Yeah what Fox. There was Galaxy and they were
- 53:39like no ads. And when we first got it as Galaxy, there was
- 53:43literally no ads. It was a show to show to show to show to
- 53:45show. Yeah, I'll be watching Bloody Grand Designs over at Loose and it's
- 53:49like a lot of ads on this on this pay TV what exactly what we're
- 53:52paying for? And now they are apparently going to do it on Prime Video.
- 53:55Now whether the ads are going to be like at the start of the
- 53:58movie or the start of the TV show And that's it. I know that
- 54:00Apple TV have the ads, don't they? I think they Yeah, But
- 54:04it's not like a It's like a thing where it's like you pay it the
- 54:07basic come out, you get the ads, pay more, you don't get
- 54:09the ad. That's what Prime's going to do as well. And that's that's
- 54:12how they're all going to Eventually, Netfix will be the same. They're all
- 54:14be the same because they were like we're gonna bump it up by two dollars,
- 54:16but you know you can keep it where you want. Being going to
- 54:19get ads though. We can't keep giving you this stuff for nothing. It's
- 54:22like giving given to me for nothing. We're paying for it already. You're
- 54:25Amazon. It worked like a trillion dollars. Don't you own the planet?
- 54:30Speaking of that, there's actually really funny episode in the New Futu Rama season
- 54:32about Amazon called Mamazon, which is okay, okay, we shall check that
- 54:37out at some story. Yes, yes, what do we get to talk?
- 54:42Get a story? Yeah, but no occasionally get something. Oh,
- 54:46you've got to order from Amazon UK and that's how it will come even though
- 54:50you go through the Australian side. It still free posters. You just gotta
- 54:52wait. Yeah, yeah, because I order this thing prior to my birthday,
- 54:57gave it lose a dress so it would go to her and then she
- 55:00could give it to me. And it's through Amazon Japan and they're saying not
- 55:05yet shipped, not yet, no no, and I and I actually contacted
- 55:08him. I said, you know what this is about three weeks ago and
- 55:10they're saying, we will email you when it's ready to be shipped. And
- 55:14I haven't got an email. Oh, we're really sorry about that. It's
- 55:16in the system, I guess, And let's just canceled that and then just
- 55:20ordered again from somewhere else. I would, but yeah, it's kind of
- 55:22cost extra ten bucks or something. I'm not paying ten dollars. Well,
- 55:25I know, I mean, I know, I sound cheap. Part of
- 55:28it's like the principle of the thing. It's like, I'm ordered from you
- 55:30guys, do your job. I'd be like, you're getting any of my
- 55:34money now. Well except yeah, I mean, after I had this very
- 55:37nice AO conversation with this bot, Oh god, you hate that. I
- 55:43hope I could help you today. They did send me an email saying we're
- 55:45sorry this has taking so long. He's ten bucks, he's ten bucks credit.
- 55:50Now did you use that? Really? I should have used that for
- 55:52that. But then I was like, that's what you bought the new apple
- 55:53pie with. No I did buy something else because it was sort of marked
- 55:59down. Like that's a bit of a disc ant. Oh, it's a
- 56:01bit of a wind for a guy here. And if I can keep patient
- 56:05and still get this other thing, then I don't know, it'll a bit
- 56:07of wind. But I'm TERRIBI the same mindset. When I go get a
- 56:09bit of extra money, I'm like, my first thing isn't to save,
- 56:13it's well, I can buy something that I don't need. Now, Oh
- 56:15yeah, what's on special? It's really terrible. There's a clothing joint that
- 56:22I free country. I am saying I am incredibly obvious a lot this episode,
- 56:29but yes, I am nothing if not predictable. But they've got this
- 56:32sale at the moment. Then they're having, like, by the way,
- 56:35this weekend, another twenty percent off. I'm like, I don't. I
- 56:37don't need to. It's like the norm. Now. I feel like there's
- 56:39so many shops are constantly on twenty percent half now. Yeah, well this
- 56:43took it down to forty percent. Oh, twenty percent on top of the
- 56:45sale. Yes, that's exciting for you. And I was like, I
- 56:50honestly go, I don't need this. But at the same time, this
- 56:52top cheap and limited, this top for twenty bucks, I'd be foolish not
- 56:58too. That's right, Tom Again, it's just that old looney two things
- 57:04where I'm just that lollipops be a sucker, not too. I've got the
- 57:08sucker written across my face anyway, So please keep the patronage up so I
- 57:13can buy more shit. You're that guy that's like seeing your pigeons dad.
- 57:21I know you can read my thoughts. Boy anyway, Sorry, let's get
- 57:25by the way. He's a part of your present, so I haven't you
- 57:28have to like glue it together. Basically, don't want to go together into
- 57:30You've got it right, But basically it's like a pre Christmas present as well.
- 57:35Oh my gosh. Now I know you're not a Christmas ee kind of
- 57:38guy, but you're a die hard guy, right, so it is a
- 57:42mini die hard advent. So like countdown and Hans falls down. Oh my
- 57:47god, it's magnetized. Oh take a picture of that and we'll put it
- 57:52up on them. So you need to just glue altogether. Basically it all
- 57:54comes apart like that. But you can do that yourself. And little Hans
- 57:59falls down until he gets to and once he gets at the end, he
- 58:00falls off obviously. Hello, it's the it's the plaza, I can tell
- 58:07me plaza. Oh my gosh, that's really nice. Thanks man, fantastic.
- 58:13When I said, well this, I'll take a picture and put it
- 58:15on line for the patrons. Ever everyone else actually, because I understand.
- 58:19I know that you know, like to have Christmas decorations, but I thought
- 58:21it's Christmas, but it's not Christmas. Eve. That's a very nice Christmas
- 58:23decoration. Thank you, no problem? All right? Anyway, what were
- 58:29we up to on the episode White Noise, White Noise, Yeah, which
- 58:31led to us to talking about Christmas and yeah, yeah, yeah, not
- 58:35white Christmas, White Noise. Yeah, that's good. But this is the
- 58:37first time they've actually acknowledged that Marge's dad is dead. Oh yeah, because
- 58:42he's been missing out of the equation for so long, and her mum's remarried
- 58:45and things like that, and she lives alone. She re married mister Burns.
- 58:47But this is the first time you've said that he's dead. Why couldn't
- 58:53he give up this like he gives up anything else. I don't dead,
- 58:58White Noise, Machina got you when your father died. Transport yourself to the
- 59:05doors of Nova Scotia. We're gone, and Helen, they're crawnicking, Jack's
- 59:10dragging. It's annoys more. He wants to throw in some Russio and traffic
- 59:20and a duck is fire tight? Fight, ain't yours? What? Let
- 59:34me know when and if you want ducks burning him and him yelling is more
- 59:44annoying than Bad's drumming. Yeah, and as someone who really values their sleep,
- 59:47I just felt this so bad. I was like, we didn't need
- 59:52the line though, I've let me know when and if you want to have
- 59:53sex, honey, So those lines I'm like, not necessary. No,
- 59:59nah, it just makes time. We come across like a real creep,
- 1:00:01not a bad husband or like a we've all been there kind of husband.
- 1:00:05It's not taking cheek him. It's just really like awkward. It's so great.
- 1:00:08No, it's it's silly. Yeah, but Bart is now, you
- 1:00:13know, I'd like that. He's could be sleeping sometimes he's a sleep lad
- 1:00:15and drugs. This is Jesse. He takes him to the jazz club and
- 1:00:20then home. We have Home of sending mixed messages to Bart again, which
- 1:00:22was just I don't know that Home were shipping this. He really was.
- 1:00:27He just wasn't funny at all. Added nothing to the story then, not
- 1:00:30not much at all. A jazzy good Times, which apparently is a play
- 1:00:34on the visual of the logo, is a play on a real jazz club
- 1:00:38is the House of Blues logo I thought it looked very house of bluesy.
- 1:00:43That's what was meant to be. Yeah, the the jazz blues logo,
- 1:00:45jazzy good times logo. It's got from jumping, disappointing and clothes for even
- 1:00:50Tori. That was the three different what were there three different vacancy no vacancy
- 1:00:54kind of things. Yeah, joint is yes. Yeah. So then school
- 1:00:59kids playing a song, they're playing take five but Brebeck Quartett, Quintett,
- 1:01:05my man Dave Brubeck, very very white dude, but very good jazz musician.
- 1:01:10And also if you're a bit of an architecture above, that's all two
- 1:01:15of you out there. Look up Dave Brubeck's house. It's so fucking cool.
- 1:01:19Yeah, you're always putting up different houses on Facebook scene. I'm gonna
- 1:01:22live you one day. I'm going to buy this house for Luke. Actually
- 1:01:27she's getting bait for me with Lou's mane. But Dave Brubeck's house is really
- 1:01:37a pretty happening pad. Yeah, and take five was a really good song.
- 1:01:39I didn't get a kick out of them the way to hear because you
- 1:01:42want to get to a theme firstaurant, shit, do you want to scap
- 1:01:44them inut. No, not at all, thank god. And I'm sure
- 1:01:49we talked about it the other day in the Cable Guy. Yes, yeah,
- 1:01:52with Jingarofla was the waitress at Medieval Times. It's like what's his name,
- 1:01:57Matthew Brodick saying don't you have forks? There were no forks in media
- 1:02:00times, so there are no folks at medieval Times. But we're drinking PEPSI
- 1:02:04dude, come on, just shut up. But Bart gets paid with an
- 1:02:09unblest Lisa's unblted to play with her band, and so he's now a professional
- 1:02:13musician because he didn't get paid much. He's other people. Yeah, Lisa
- 1:02:17then says, but it's the second best player up here, And I'm like,
- 1:02:20okay, it's gonna be one of those episodes where Lisa thinks she's better
- 1:02:22than everybody. It's always the worst side of Lisa when you like, it's
- 1:02:25always like you you're glad that she gets left aside because she was like an
- 1:02:30arrogant bit. But it's also feels like the writer's kind of just taking digs
- 1:02:34at her. Yeah. Yeah, we've heard the we've heard your complaints about
- 1:02:38Lisa, and believers we feel them too, say we're going to take it
- 1:02:42down to pick. But it's always like they think that we're stupid, because
- 1:02:45it's pretty obvious what she meant when she said, you're the second best player
- 1:02:47up here. But then like, just in case you weren't aware, I'm
- 1:02:50the best play and I'm like, we got it. Yeah, you didn't
- 1:02:52have to tell me. And they see she sees the jazz muso's chatting over
- 1:02:59at the table over there. What they're skinny, It was skinny, and
- 1:03:02Marcus Marble mumbles, mumbles, La marquess I was mumbles. I thought Marbles
- 1:03:08anyway mumbles probably whatever. But yeah, they're discussing on the table over and
- 1:03:12the thing she thinks they're talking about her. She's good whatever, And then
- 1:03:15they go to eat some jazzy bread which she's just bread from the floor and
- 1:03:20defonzo skinny Palmer Marcus, I've got marbles, could be mumbles La marquees.
- 1:03:23They ask in a very roundabout way for Bart to play with them again.
- 1:03:30Yes, with the gag that just goes on a bit too long, and
- 1:03:34I don't know, maybe the rise of the stage is sort of like the
- 1:03:37gag as we know that you yeah, yeah, and we're still going to
- 1:03:40play it at anyway. I don't know, but Lisa's very annoyed by this.
- 1:03:45Then Marge and Homer just randomly arrive I guess to see Bart and Lisa
- 1:03:50playing, but Bart says that she wants him to join. Bart says that
- 1:03:54they want him to join them on the tour. Lisa can't handle it at
- 1:03:57all. She can't take this, so she says, how would he How
- 1:04:00do you feel if I started eskapateboarding really well? And she crashes into some
- 1:04:02spicy barbecue sauce. Lisa, You've got to be more careful. I need
- 1:04:08you to teach me all about the world of jazz. It's yazz jazz.
- 1:04:14You don't even know the name of the thing you are scaling from me,
- 1:04:18but youse, those steady on those skins. We're gonna call you TikTok.
- 1:04:23I always wanted a jazz nickname. Fine, we'll call you a downbeat because
- 1:04:28you're bringing us down. Oh, that is the most unfair down Please,
- 1:04:33we're shooting the breeze with TikTok. Oh man, I am so juzzed,
- 1:04:40but it is very juzzed by this. And now he's officially part of the
- 1:04:43Skinny Palmer Trio featuring TikTok Simpson's The Post on the Wall and Old Gil tries
- 1:04:46to sneak his way in here mucin the office management, but it's not gonna
- 1:04:49happen. He walks past a few people, including George Meyer, as we
- 1:04:51mentioned earlier, the gentleman in the heat and glasses. Yeah, you may
- 1:04:56have seen him from The Itching, Scratching and Pucci Show. He's one of
- 1:04:59the writers who are getting yelled at buy Roger and my junior. Homer says
- 1:05:02to Bar, you know I now like you more because I just like you
- 1:05:05as well, and Bart uses just I can't stand obvious, just like Dick
- 1:05:13Homer. It's bad when Homer doesn't. It's bad when any sort of just
- 1:05:17I can't stand jokes like that, where it's just it's not even a joke,
- 1:05:21it's just like I'm saying something really obvious. It's like it's a fucking
- 1:05:26point. Yeah, I'm sorry. I don't mean to get so angry.
- 1:05:28This was a very very nothing episode, very just well spit will spinning.
- 1:05:33So we know kids watch the Simpsons, but you know not all kids.
- 1:05:39No. No, It's like I had to explain to my assist the other
- 1:05:41day that the Female Deer, where Homer runs into a statue of a deer.
- 1:05:45It was like, do a dear a female deer? And she's like,
- 1:05:48I'm like, because a female deer is a dope. And she's like,
- 1:05:50ah, I get it, Like remember when those days happen? What's
- 1:05:55this just dirty? He's never seen the sound of music. But it's like,
- 1:06:00you know those jokes that show her a kid's head, It's like,
- 1:06:04where are these now? Yeah? I mean that the older members of the
- 1:06:09audience would have a bit of fun saying, oh, well, that's actually
- 1:06:13about this, and you know your kids would either go I don't care or
- 1:06:17oh I've learned something. Yeah, And that's the thing Simpson has taught so
- 1:06:20many kids, like pop culture references in particular, Oh god, yeah yeah.
- 1:06:25I was like I put up on our Twitter and our Facebook this week
- 1:06:28about The Shinning. I'm like, every nineties kid calls this movie the Shinning.
- 1:06:30You just can't call it the Shining. It's the Shinning, you know,
- 1:06:32and it's just it's. Our first introduction to a lot of horror movies
- 1:06:35was The tree House of Horror episodes, but because it did such a good
- 1:06:40job of picking things that were like forever icons, you know what I mean.
- 1:06:45Now it just feels like it's very stuff becomes dated very quickly. Yeah,
- 1:06:47they didn't really sort of tackle too much flash in the pan kind of
- 1:06:49stuff. No, No, not back in the day anyway. But yes,
- 1:06:54at least it's annoyed. The barts all over the cover of Blowing and
- 1:06:56the Sugar sheet, and she's on the front cover of Dream Denied. That
- 1:07:00was actually pretty good. Mark suggests that she gets a puppy. I'm like,
- 1:07:02it's very similar to when they had the cat episode when when the cat
- 1:07:04died and she got another cat. But then basically, at least from this
- 1:07:08episode, she's doing everything that I think any animal level would love to do,
- 1:07:12just rescue all the rescue every animal. If we had the money and
- 1:07:15the funds in the place to do so, I would totally do this.
- 1:07:16Man. Yeah, I mean I can't go out to what do they call
- 1:07:21the animal shelter out on the lan Yeah, the home shelter, the animal
- 1:07:26home. I want to call us, I want to. I was kind
- 1:07:29of call it gua, like bad every metal band. I'm like, that's
- 1:07:32not itseuse, Yeah, Gelong Animal Welfare Society. I think it's called shelter.
- 1:07:39Yeah. Yeah, I mean I got my cat, Charlie. And
- 1:07:42did I get challenge from there long time ago? Yeah, that was pretty
- 1:07:45prior to Basie. But you know I went out there and yeah, just
- 1:07:49all these dogs and cats and I'm like, I mean, it's so sad.
- 1:07:54It really. Every time I drive past that page, I'll sort of
- 1:07:56say it under my breath. I hope you'll find homes, yeah, because
- 1:08:00it's just like a concrete slab at this it really is. And the staff
- 1:08:02they're great. Yeah, they look after them all as best they can.
- 1:08:05And you know, I'm sure that all all those animals are really well taken
- 1:08:10care of, but they know why they're there too, the animals. Yeah,
- 1:08:12it's no subside from home. And yes, I would definitely like you're
- 1:08:16all coming with me? Yeah, I mean, if I didn't have kids,
- 1:08:19i'd be all about it. But for some reason, I have that
- 1:08:23fear of getting a dog. You don't know what they've been through. Yes,
- 1:08:27yeah, there might be just some wires crossed and next thing, you
- 1:08:30know, one errant tail pool and yeah oh no, yeah, yeah,
- 1:08:35but you've turned my son into chopper. Reed by biting his ears off.
- 1:08:38If I had the ability and the means to save all these animals like Lisa
- 1:08:41it does here, then I would totally do it. But they yeah,
- 1:08:44because anytime you go out to an animal shell, you're going to see Oh
- 1:08:46my god, you've been there forever because you you're a bit of a FuGO
- 1:08:50or you're yeah, you're not exactly the pick of the litter. Oh you're
- 1:08:56not going anywhere, are your pal? Oh I want to take you,
- 1:08:59except I'm a supervisial as everybody else. We go to the animal shelter where
- 1:09:03the pet store for poor people, and Lisa chooses the shaggy dog over the
- 1:09:09only one she choose over the up one over the yeah, who's going to
- 1:09:13be new to tomorrow? And she has the dream here about the other dogs?
- 1:09:16You know, he says, because if you aren't going to die,
- 1:09:17they're gonna put me down. So she goes to get him to the next
- 1:09:20day, and then the worker brings up old Smile. He's just basically being
- 1:09:23a salesman. What about old Henry over there? And he knows my darkest
- 1:09:26secret. So she ends up leaving with all these different animals, and is
- 1:09:29where we get the the Yeah, Doom Doom such a good song. Really
- 1:09:33is such a good movie, Quentin, I don't, I don't know.
- 1:09:36Do you think his older films are better than the newer ones. That's a
- 1:09:41tough one. I mean, I real watched pulp fiction not long ago,
- 1:09:43and you know part of being around in the nightiesn't being part of that phenomena?
- 1:09:46Do you remember what it was like? Yeah? Yeah, and it's
- 1:09:48hard to separate it from that. But I don't know, Little a Little
- 1:09:51Time, it's little linka. This is really well made and you know,
- 1:09:55the music is fantastic, and similar's a lot bigger, longer own cut.
- 1:09:58We're saying how it's hard to exp to someone who didn't grow up when all
- 1:10:00was around, when it was came out, how much of a big deal
- 1:10:03it was to have these kids swearing in hearing seeing Kenny with add his hood
- 1:10:06on and things like that. Now it's just like whatever, But like,
- 1:10:10if you live in the moment, you remember what it meant to pop culture.
- 1:10:14Yeah, absolutely, you know, beings like a like a member of
- 1:10:17Generation X or something, and like, oh, they brought Travolta back,
- 1:10:20and you know that's the big one. You realized why Travolta was actually so
- 1:10:25big in you know, Saturdaynight Fever in Grease era. Yeah, and he's
- 1:10:28recaptured that and he was so fucking cool. I mean, it was incredibly
- 1:10:31cool and or I mean even Bruce Willis his career was kind of on a
- 1:10:34bit of a bit of a low period. And moon Lighting is now getting
- 1:10:38on Hulu. By the way, do you see that? I did see
- 1:10:40that. And while I love moon Learning a lot, someone on Twitter point
- 1:10:47there is out today. It's like people are going to realize that this show
- 1:10:49was incredible and ground bragging, very very funny for its time, and also
- 1:10:54incredibly uneven. And the latest seasons are kind of like, I don't know
- 1:10:58about this mash much with Moonlighting. Maybe watched the first two two and a
- 1:11:02half seasons and then you can I got your community. But yeah, I
- 1:11:08mean, so it's going to Hulu in the stage, whether it's coming to
- 1:11:11Disney Plus here, I'm not the day it does. You will never leave
- 1:11:14the TV. Sorry, we're not recording at your house anymore. Dand we're
- 1:11:20not recording luckily you'll have AI guy a guy. At that stage, i'd
- 1:11:27be talking moon But yes, she's she's walking down the street and the visual
- 1:11:32of the the raccoon you maybe only why did you rescue your raccoon so they
- 1:11:35can capture that the Getaway which is the cover of the Chiapepper's album. Yes,
- 1:11:39but yes, she she's walking with all those and they get the dog.
- 1:11:43That the blind guy from the last the Laddy episode of The Simpsons,
- 1:11:45never the Lady, and it's the blind guy who gets caught with the marijuana
- 1:11:48at the ends, right, that's him. That's the blind guy in this.
- 1:11:50That's a little throwback there, shameful Brothers. Circus animals are out the
- 1:11:55front there, out of a job now because they got shut down, and
- 1:11:58then she keeps all the animals in the attic cab. I got in there.
- 1:12:00I'm not going to question it because I watched the Stampy episode the other
- 1:12:02day and there's a scene where Stampy is at most sting at the bus.
- 1:12:05I'm like, why I didn't question it now, I'm not going to question
- 1:12:08it now. Let's not forget, folks, this is in fact a cartoon.
- 1:12:12It is indeed, So she's just eating the rats that are in the
- 1:12:15Christmas decorations. Found me now or at dinner Homer says that he and Lenny
- 1:12:18rented a rowboat on lunch, just nothing again the car to have a nice
- 1:12:25little picture Carl painted them whatever, and they hear the animals. She yells
- 1:12:30shut up, and there's punishment. She goes to upstairs to punish herself because
- 1:12:32she swore. Then the she goes up there, and the Skinny Palma Trio
- 1:12:35up there smoking reefarm was but not at the table. I didn't I didn't
- 1:12:40realize it wasn't. But like, was no one asking him where's barked?
- 1:12:43Yes, So the whole time she people should be asking where's that? He
- 1:12:45was apparently upstairs smoking with the Skinny Palm Trio. And then a tiger bites
- 1:12:49his arm and he doesn't really seem to care all that much. I was
- 1:12:51like, the tiger, what is happening? Yeah, I mean, yes,
- 1:12:55you're saying, how this is really hurting where the tiger's lunching? Tiger?
- 1:12:58Yeah it's again, which again is one of those stupids, just like
- 1:13:00this should be hurting, my arm is hurting where the tiger is biting.
- 1:13:06It's like that kind of Yeah, it's like dumb down, even for bart.
- 1:13:12Yeah, that's like a Ralph Wigham even even like dumb down for Ralph
- 1:13:15Wigham, I reckon it is, isn't it? I mean it just the
- 1:13:18writing was pretty lazy in this episode, pretty pretty just like it was just
- 1:13:24like obvious if it wasn't it. Yeah, I'm just not a fan of
- 1:13:27that kind of that kind of humor for some reason. And the same as
- 1:13:32last week. The third act begins at the hospital with someone recovering, so
- 1:13:41it says at the front, come for the surgery, state for the complications,
- 1:13:43but unfortunately can't drum anymore. And just like Philip coins, what does
- 1:13:46everybody have against Phil Collins? Yeah, because sound like the same? What
- 1:13:50did Phil Collins do? I thought? Ever I loved Phil Collins. You're
- 1:13:55acting like studio was never recorded. Bang have you not seen the cabrit Gorilla
- 1:14:00commercial? He gave us that song. He won an oscar. That's why
- 1:14:08the SAP I don't like, and he beat them for the oscar. We're
- 1:14:12sort of biting on our bigger, longer an uncunt review here, but there's
- 1:14:15I think they say we lost to Phil Collins. That's worse than not being
- 1:14:18nominated. I was like, I don't agree. I'm sorry the man wrote
- 1:14:24and recorded in the air tonight show some respect, she definitely did. Yeah,
- 1:14:29but yes, so he can't drum anymore, Lisa. This is what
- 1:14:30Lisa points out. I never thought these two stories but intersect and I was
- 1:14:33like, we get it. You're smarter than us and Homers just like I'm
- 1:14:40now a Mexican wrestler. And he tries fighting the scum on Earth is going
- 1:14:45on worth of him saying no mass, no mass. Yeah, that's it
- 1:14:49at least from Marge. Try palming off the animals to other people, and
- 1:14:54I'm like, okay, So Frank takes the bird right and they're all happy,
- 1:14:57and then Wigham says, so they want to get rid of the animals
- 1:15:00and he says, if you guys got get rid of these, the animal
- 1:15:01Control's gonna come take them away, and I'm like, it's not what they
- 1:15:03want, yeah, but then he says and they're going to die, So
- 1:15:06I guess that's sort of like that what Leasa doesn't. Watches want them more
- 1:15:10killed, but he wants the pretty good home. Yeah. Yeah. But
- 1:15:14then he takes the Ostrich because his car won't start and rides the Ostrich away,
- 1:15:16which pays off in the background in a few scenes you see the background
- 1:15:20game. No, okay, so we'll see it in a moment. I
- 1:15:23guess that's it. These animals are other than a die no to buck in
- 1:15:28help Alter. Do you have an idea? No? Sorry, If it
- 1:15:31sounded like I did, then we have Bart trying to convince Skinny Palmer that
- 1:15:35he can drum. And then someone's right arm is drumming. Yeah, I
- 1:15:40know who's right arm this is, and then just holds up a goodbye Liney
- 1:15:43Tunes Again, I'm like, what the fuck is this? Yeah, I
- 1:15:47mean you buy it in Looney Tunes because and when tun sort of set a
- 1:15:54tone if anything goes and I'm middlely we just said a few minutes ago,
- 1:15:57okay, yeah, Stampy sitting at the bar. So anything can go animation,
- 1:16:00but there's you have to establish that this is a world where anything goes.
- 1:16:05And I know the Simpsons more often than not s that aprides itself on
- 1:16:09being a little bit ground in reality. And to do something as random as
- 1:16:14this, and if this is a reference to something, I don't know what,
- 1:16:16no explanation as to who or what. No, it was weird,
- 1:16:19wasn't it. Yeah? And for those who didn't who didn't haven't watched the
- 1:16:24episode basically, but his drumming trying to people can drum. He's got one
- 1:16:28arm, one arm in his slings, so he's drumming with one arm,
- 1:16:30but there's another arm that's coming through the curtain and is trying to sort of
- 1:16:33keep time, but it's not really working out. Now you think it's Millhouse
- 1:16:36or something. Yeah, you think it's someone, but they never reveal who
- 1:16:41it is. And he's like, I don't even know whose arm this is,
- 1:16:43and then just the arm holds it besides saying goodbye and disappears. Now,
- 1:16:46if this is a reference to some other cartoon or some other thing in
- 1:16:49pop culture, if you know it, please let us know, because you
- 1:16:53know, we're trying to doing the work here. You do some we're heavy
- 1:16:55lifting for a change. But yeah, it just I don't know, didn't
- 1:17:00really feel like a joke or an absurd bit that landed. Wasn't funny.
- 1:17:03No, No, it's like, I bet you didn't see that coming.
- 1:17:09That's right. They suggest the anthroscopic surgery microsurgery, and Bar says, yeah,
- 1:17:15the doctor said surgery would help it, but it's going to cost seventy
- 1:17:16eight thousand dollars, so that's just a benefit concert, but they're not equipped
- 1:17:19to do so, but is then saying too. But then the next scene
- 1:17:25is going ahead. I'm like, didn you just explain it? They're not
- 1:17:28equipped to be able to do whatever. So bast now in the kitchen and
- 1:17:30he's bragging about how the benefits is going to be fantastic. Now, in
- 1:17:32the background of this scene you see Wigan riding the Ostrich bringing it, dragging
- 1:17:38another Ostrich on chains with snake attached to it. So that's like, there's
- 1:17:42no cop So that's sort of well, that's a good visual, yes,
- 1:17:45yeah, which isn't acknowledge it's just sort of there, which I thought.
- 1:17:46I'm glad they didn't acknowledge it. I'm like, you ever see it or
- 1:17:49something? Sometimes you just gotta have little background gears, like yeah, little
- 1:17:53Easter eggs. But there was a bit in this where is Marge crying and
- 1:17:57home and Bart's like, why are you crying thinking about your marriage? And
- 1:18:00like, oh man, I got yeah, why are you sad you think
- 1:18:01about your marriage? And these aren't the gags that but Lisa should be saying
- 1:18:05no, I mean, the kids should not be acknowledging how like I get
- 1:18:10that we had in the past that you know, they clearly weren't happy or
- 1:18:13hope it wasn't the best husband or father. But to be so content with
- 1:18:15it, Yeah, I mean Barton Lisa should be sort of an ignorant bliss
- 1:18:19about it. Yeah, but no, I think has it been twice in
- 1:18:23two episodes they've done it? Or was it late in season seventeen where it's
- 1:18:26like, well, last week was the mook the ship on marginhen she was
- 1:18:28like, I wish I got wish I was dead because she doesn't get fed.
- 1:18:30But that's not that one, no, No, But there was one
- 1:18:31where they was sitting at like they were at the lunch table at school,
- 1:18:36but there was nothing happening at school, and they were like, but always
- 1:18:41fight. We can hear them now. That was the finale when they're doing
- 1:18:44the cut, they're doing the tether ball. Yeah, they do what's the
- 1:18:47ball? We hit the ball around the thing? But yeah, there's tellable
- 1:18:51yeah yeah. And because they were talking about how Margin Humor will do marriage
- 1:18:55canceling. How can they be doing canceling? They hate each other? And
- 1:18:58then they heard Homer yelling from a distances but I and I say a goat
- 1:19:01can eat our lawn or something. Yeah. Yeah, it's like this doesn't
- 1:19:05sit well with me. No, but just particuliarly, why are you said
- 1:19:09you're thinking about your marriage? I'm like, oh, man, yeah,
- 1:19:10I'm sorry, that's real kind of I'm not. We don't want to.
- 1:19:14We don't want to watch this show to feel bad. No, And I'm
- 1:19:16not dissing like this show or this particular actor when I say this, But
- 1:19:20it's like that's something like Jonathan Taylor Thomas would say on Home Improvement. I
- 1:19:24mean, that's not not even necessarily him, but it's like that's what the
- 1:19:28sassy kids say on the dumb sitcoms. The kid who's like wise beyond the
- 1:19:31years all Raymond would say to his dad or something. Yeah, but it's
- 1:19:34more like what if I'm from the show that go, hey dad, the
- 1:19:39fact kid. I think you meant the fact kid from Modern Family? Oh
- 1:19:41yeah, okays the same Yeah. Yeah. One of those kids who was
- 1:19:44like, I drink coffee and I had talked to it and I was like,
- 1:19:46I'm an adult, and guess what, I hate you. You're basically
- 1:19:53List Simpson. That's that's what she is now she's just like a little adult,
- 1:19:57isn't she Yeah, yeah, but for to say that just didn't work
- 1:20:00anyway. Marge is concerned for the animals because you know, Liza's going to
- 1:20:03be upset if they end up getting killed. No one else cares about these
- 1:20:06animals, apparently, but but you know, he's feeling empathy. She explains
- 1:20:11what empathy means, and you know, I'm going to learn a new word
- 1:20:13today, and she explains what it means, and then she she explained that
- 1:20:16she's using the animals to replace the pain of being upstaged, and I'm like,
- 1:20:19that's not Bart's fault. No, Bart was good at drums, So
- 1:20:24now he's supposed to feel bad because Lisa didn't get picked. That's not Bart's
- 1:20:27fault. Really, why why is this? Why is the plot point being
- 1:20:31that Bart is trying to make good for Lisa because he feels bad. Why
- 1:20:34does Bart feel bad? He didn't do anything wrong. She invited to the
- 1:20:38jazz club, he played well, and then they liked him. That's actually
- 1:20:43a really good point. Why are we supposed to feel sorry for Lisa because
- 1:20:47Bart was better at something that She's like, that's not his fault that he
- 1:20:50was better. That's something you've dedicated your life too. If anyone's got to
- 1:20:53learn a lesson, this episode's Lisa. Yeah, and I don't think she
- 1:20:58I don't think she does. No, she doesn't at all. I mean
- 1:21:01by a mean should little sympathy for it, because you know she's sad.
- 1:21:04But that's do something else, yeah, or keep playing jet You you don't
- 1:21:12suck out of either. Just because one band didn't pick you. A couple
- 1:21:15of dudes who are corrupting your brother by taking him to the attic doesn't smoke.
- 1:21:19We who you'd never met before anyway. So's the benefit concert eight hours,
- 1:21:24two songs, crusty Reeds, had a bunch of funny names, and
- 1:21:28then we're gonna believe me a gag. I was like, shit, well
- 1:21:30that's right. It's like Jesus Christ's episode is getting dark man like Bart's content
- 1:21:35with his parents marriage, failing, jokes about blimia. That's right, guys,
- 1:21:40that's how I that's how I maintain my weight. And I'm like,
- 1:21:43we got it. When you're said you're gonna go vomit, these are the
- 1:21:46jokes in case you didn't get it, guys. But then thanks everybody,
- 1:21:51but says, no, everyone here's got hearts better that the person here has
- 1:21:56the biggest heart is Lisa says. All the money is now going to go
- 1:21:59to a Lisa's Home for the abandoned animals. I'm like yes, Everyone's like
- 1:22:04yeah, if I won't except us, yeah, like what and then Skinny
- 1:22:09and Marcus like we should have a benefit counts it? Hey? You I
- 1:22:12still made your assistant? No she died? What? And then do do
- 1:22:16do? Do? Do? Wait? Wait? What? Why why have
- 1:22:19you put the crowdits up? There's still more story to tell here this episode.
- 1:22:24Pete at the White Stripes very much. That was that was moments throughout,
- 1:22:29But the more you delve into it, it's like and never it didn't
- 1:22:31dawn. It mean whilst I was watching, but that whole story of Bart
- 1:22:34trying to make good for Lisa makes absolutely no sense. It really. I
- 1:22:38mean, end this episode with Bart and Lisa collaborating on a tune, having
- 1:22:43them have him jamming together and have the implicit message they work better when they're
- 1:22:46together. I think that'd be great. Yes, yeah, but I mean
- 1:22:50it's funny when we occasionally, when we do a full finger Discount episode,
- 1:22:55there will be things when it'll be like, you know what, I didn't
- 1:22:58like this episode when I was watching, but having talked about it, there's
- 1:23:00a bit to enjoy. We came into this episode going, hey, Jess
- 1:23:03and the Bussa. It wasn't too bad. I think by the end of
- 1:23:05we're going, oh my god, that's how much wrong with this episode?
- 1:23:10What do we learn? Palmer? So what did you learn from the episode?
- 1:23:13Mister Davis? Did I learn from this episode? You can always count
- 1:23:16on such meld to say something fucking obvious. It's just pretty much you gotta
- 1:23:23count such about to say something Now, it's like everything he says now adds
- 1:23:28nothing to the story. No, and it's look, why does he getting
- 1:23:30every like punchline isn't even a punchline? No, And I mean, I'm
- 1:23:34just gonna say it loudly. Look, listen to the show. No,
- 1:23:39we like that kind of voices. We okay, do you like that kind
- 1:23:42of thing when it's marvelous? When it's marvelous? But yeah, I mean
- 1:23:46there are a certain voices that you like hearing Justice Christ certain things are funny.
- 1:23:50Come, yeah, Mill's voice not necessarily that, No, not at
- 1:23:57all. No, I mean I get the fly mo if Moe was saying
- 1:24:00half these lines, if Moe was the maybe the mouthpiece of these things,
- 1:24:03you'd probably go yeah, fine. But you know, Melon brings nothing to
- 1:24:08the table other than the way he says things. Yeah, because he says
- 1:24:12it such a commanding way that he's in a stage show or something that's the
- 1:24:16lines aren't funny. It's a delivery that's supposed to be funny, but it's
- 1:24:18not. Yeah, And it's a that's a jug that wears the incredibly quickly.
- 1:24:24Yeah wears in thinner than Crusty Bennerixxit Crusty. From this knee forward,
- 1:24:29your names will be all right. So it's now a round two of the
- 1:24:31Guy Ever Season eighteen New Name Championship. The leader board stands at this in
- 1:24:35on one point, Appleby, in two points Philip Jay Hawkins, and in
- 1:24:39three points we have Kyle Molding. We need to touch on Philip Jay Hawkins,
- 1:24:43who has already done a three peat, which he pointed out this week.
- 1:24:45So I apologize Philip Jay Hawkins because we mentioned last week that Luke mckayigo
- 1:24:48for the first of a three peat. Philip Jay Hawkins has already done.
- 1:24:51So so what say, Yes, we love to touch on Philip Jay Hawkins
- 1:24:55here We're do indeed all right? He enjoys it too, don't you?
- 1:24:59Philip? Get how do I explained the joke fear? Oh no, it's
- 1:25:03it's contagious. So are that? What are the one? Two three?
- 1:25:08This week? One point goes to all that jazz jazz that's not bad.
- 1:25:14That is Nora Coca No Coca. First time on the lid board this season
- 1:25:17one point two points two the hardest button to bart On, I like it.
- 1:25:26That is David Mott, another newbie to the leaderboard season eighteen, World
- 1:25:30On two points to David Mott Motzki, and three points goes to bro bro
- 1:25:35Land. What did you like about that one? Well, well, you
- 1:25:39love La La Land, but I do like La La Land a lot,
- 1:25:41which is very jazz related. Now, admittedly, I've set some rules to
- 1:25:45myself in the past when it's like, oh, you know, I really
- 1:25:46like that, except that particular movie or reference took place after the episode was
- 1:25:51done. Yeah. True, But guess what I don't. I don't play
- 1:25:55by the rules baby, as the Simpsons state anymore, don't just taking from
- 1:26:00from our favorite show, yes, and also and also the symptions, But
- 1:26:05barbro Land is in fact a three pointer that is from Justin Williams, who
- 1:26:10gets the three points. All right, So the leadboard now we have both.
- 1:26:13On one point we have Heath Applebee and Nora Cooca. On two points
- 1:26:15we have Philip J. Hawkins and David Mott. And on three points we
- 1:26:17have clever Kyle Muldoon and Justin Williams. Let's get into some trivite questions about
- 1:26:25the mailbag. Oh I said the trick questions you did. Let's get into
- 1:26:28some mailbagail demail is here. First question here is from Kadig, first time
- 1:26:35sending in questions. I reckon, do you have a favorite drummer? Favorite
- 1:26:39drummer? Look, gonna say the obvious thing of saying Ringo. Although Ringo,
- 1:26:44whilst everyone makes fun of him, he was always he timed. He's
- 1:26:46like he's playing to perfection, like he was so good at what he had
- 1:26:49to do. Absolutely, Look, I think drummers get a bit of a
- 1:26:53short, short shrift, or they get sold a bit short. Say what
- 1:26:57we mentioned stones before Charlie's passed away. Now yeah, indeed, I mean,
- 1:26:59look, I've got Charlie wats Down is one of my favorite drummers.
- 1:27:01I mean, I'm not that sort of musically literate that I could tell maybe
- 1:27:05good drumming from bad drumming, but maybe it is one of those things where
- 1:27:11like, yeah, look, I can't explain it, but I know it
- 1:27:13when I hear it, and I'm just a big fan of a lot of
- 1:27:15the Stone songs. And yeah, I mean they call Charlie the engine room
- 1:27:19of the band, and honestly, you'll you start sort of breaking shit down
- 1:27:24into components and go, wow, that's actually pretty good drumming, even though
- 1:27:27it was like, well he's keeping time, but it doesn't necessarily have to
- 1:27:30be flashy solos or anything like that. It's just like, now that's just
- 1:27:34rock solid. He's driving things. That's fantastic. So yeah, I like
- 1:27:38Charlie wats a lot. I'm a big fan of the Police, so I
- 1:27:40really dig Stewart Copeland, Travis Barker from Blink Two's very Ears. There's got
- 1:27:46a hell of a lot of tats am I right, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:27:48he had a fear of players, which is what they never came to Australia,
- 1:27:50but like they're coming, like like but twenty sold out shows like Blink
- 1:27:55one two are a band who I was never like hugely into the when they
- 1:27:58first exploded, they had like all the small all things and things like that,
- 1:28:00And when I get to high school just felt like it just became very
- 1:28:02like the term like emo kind of like punk, and I was like,
- 1:28:06it's just not for me. My friends fucking loved it, and like they've
- 1:28:10just they've got a scene, and it's like they are like the let's not
- 1:28:13metallic, your owns metal, you know what I mean? Like they own
- 1:28:15that kind of pop punk scene, don't they? I would say, so,
- 1:28:18Yeah, I mean, look I'm not I'm not the biggest fan of
- 1:28:19Black One, they too, but I recognize and that they're like that on
- 1:28:23quite respect. Yeah, they're kind of the Stones have like rock and roll.
- 1:28:27Yeah, but yeah, these guys own a very good, a very
- 1:28:30sizeable slice of real estate in that area in the niche. And someone else
- 1:28:34I like, and I believe Kadig actually mentioned this in the mail bag,
- 1:28:39was Karen Carpenter. Now this is yeah, one that you might not expect
- 1:28:44because you know, the Carpenters are very much known for their It's Yesterday once
- 1:28:47more And you know, why do birds suddenly appear and all like the Simpsons
- 1:28:53Close to You. My mum's favorite song ever? Is them singing Please mister
- 1:28:57Postman? Is it? Yeah? I mean it's very sweet that it's just
- 1:29:00makes when I'm smiling, but I'm never here. I'm just like it just
- 1:29:03makes it just makes me smile because it thinks reminds me of my mum being
- 1:29:05happy. Absolutely right, Absolutely right. But there's footage of Karen Carpenter on
- 1:29:12the drums and she is just fucking shredding it. Really. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:29:15she's a legitimate I mean she's a tiny person too. You just wouldn't
- 1:29:17expect her. Yeah. Well we mentioned better Rex here a bit earlier,
- 1:29:21and that is what got her in the end, which is very sad,
- 1:29:25very sad to note, but I mean, yeah, no, this puts
- 1:29:29your Karen on the drums, and I feel sort of guilty saying she's she's
- 1:29:31a legitimately good drummer, because I mean it shouldn't come as a surprise or
- 1:29:34anything like that. But if you know them as these purveyors of very soft
- 1:29:41rock kind of ballads and those kinds of tunes, for her to just be
- 1:29:44like kicking the shit out of a drum kit, it's like, no,
- 1:29:46I don't take it to be a Susy quat tro esque time. I mean
- 1:29:49it's not. She's not like John Bonnam or something like that. But it's
- 1:29:54like, this is not what I expected, and it's nice to be surprised
- 1:29:57in that. Other names mentioned here, Meg White, Phil Collins, Mason
- 1:30:00Phil, Yes, Phil, finally getting some respect? No respect? Mick
- 1:30:04Fleetwood. Oh yeah, yeah, that'd be enough. Let's go on to
- 1:30:09the next one. Harrison McClure. Have you ever discovered your naturally talented or
- 1:30:13good at something? Pool? Let's say we always owned a pool table at
- 1:30:17home when I was growing up, so it's like I would just play it
- 1:30:19when I was bored. So it's like I was naturally good at Like it's
- 1:30:23not called students eight ball, right, but I'm that guy who's not anywhere
- 1:30:27near professional level, but I'm always better than my mates. So like if
- 1:30:30we're going to play pool, it's always like I know I'm going to win
- 1:30:32because like I've just it's just like a muscle memory for me. Now you
- 1:30:35know I would. I'm sort of jumping ahead to another question, where do
- 1:30:42you have something you wish you were naturally good at. Paul is one of
- 1:30:45those or eight ball is one of those. I mean, and I'll i'm
- 1:30:46kind of hidden miss but there are all other occasions when I'm absolutely running the
- 1:30:49table and for a few games that around, I've got this in the bag.
- 1:30:55And then yeah, next time, I might as well just be holding
- 1:30:58a stick I found in the wood. Yeah, and you know, no
- 1:31:00good at all, kind of like even like you watched like an Astrangel's footballer.
- 1:31:04If they kick that first goal, it's almost like they find they groove
- 1:31:06and they're right, but they missed those first one or two shots. They're
- 1:31:09fun for the night, very easy to get the yips. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:31:11yeah, I get my first one easy. I'm like, I'm on,
- 1:31:14Yeah, it's something I found I was actually naturally good. It's it's
- 1:31:17very easy to make these things. Going to sound like a bit of a
- 1:31:19humble break, I actually found I wasn't bad at cooking. And when I
- 1:31:23started doing it, I mean, it took me a few sort of runs
- 1:31:26to get it right, but once I started to doing a lot, it
- 1:31:29was like, I enjoy this and I enjoy the process, and I think
- 1:31:31I'm actually not bad at the process. Ramsey, fuck that guy, Jamie
- 1:31:36who And look maybe I've had people of just you know, soothing my ego
- 1:31:43or something like that. But I mean I've served up dishes to people and
- 1:31:45they've said it's pretty nice. I mean I've had good as the feeling when
- 1:31:48you've cooked up something, you've worked really hard on it, and like you
- 1:31:50can tell they genuinely like, not just saying it because they're being polite.
- 1:31:54Yeah, it's fantastic. I mean, I have friends who are much better
- 1:31:58cooks than iron, But I don't think I'm not bad. I've got friends
- 1:32:00who are like claimed to be great chefs. And you go to the house
- 1:32:01and it was like, this isn't that good. I think the fact that
- 1:32:04you'll trying and tell me how good you are kind of says something, Yeah,
- 1:32:08you just put a bunch of chicken to nut on a Yeah you just
- 1:32:12baked potato and put some like you cut up some chives, and you won't
- 1:32:18invite me over dinner. Not a bat potato bat potatoes, not a meal.
- 1:32:26I going to the house and there's like they said, a potato and
- 1:32:29I was like mhm, and and then I was filled. There would be
- 1:32:38tappings. I see you get some sour cream? Yes, all right?
- 1:32:43Next one a couple more. Either of you a fan of the White Stripes.
- 1:32:45There were the highlight of a pretty weak episode and my second favorite band
- 1:32:49it was I was huge into what I've said it. Recently, I'm rediscovering
- 1:32:54all the bands I used to like when I was like growing out like teen
- 1:32:57years because for the last like five years it has just been kids songs,
- 1:32:59we go and ship. Right now, I'm like, no, I'm gonna
- 1:33:00make the kids listen to like my songs. And it's almost like it's reminded
- 1:33:03me of who I am and the White Stripes and put the White Stripes on.
- 1:33:06I'm like, I have not listened to them for ten years, and
- 1:33:09now I know why I like them so much. You know, some bands
- 1:33:12just you connect with, and White Stripes up, we're one of those.
- 1:33:14For me. Work on the middle age. Yeah, it's not that it
- 1:33:18makes me feel young again, but I'm just like it makes it reminds me
- 1:33:21of who I am. Absolutely yeah. Yeah, Look, I can't claim
- 1:33:25to be a White Stripe superfan. I mean, in all honest thing,
- 1:33:28I'm pretty much play the hits and that's kind of this. I'm a big
- 1:33:30fan of Little Acorn. That's one of my favorites. I have to spotify
- 1:33:34that and see if I agree with you. Probably would, because you've got
- 1:33:38very, very good taste when it comes to music. I try to,
- 1:33:43alright, but so you're not a huge fan, but yeah, not that
- 1:33:45you don't like them, you just haven't really paid them attention to. Kind
- 1:33:46of like you're the same with Arctic Monkeys, right, I think so again,
- 1:33:49and even then, I don't think I could name an Arctic Monkeys song.
- 1:33:53But it's just like you just never never tried. But I mentioned this
- 1:33:56to Lou the other day. Yeah, because among the podcasts, because they
- 1:34:00didn't who the Actic Monkeys were and we played a bit like, oh oh
- 1:34:02those Yeah, but now I still don't remember yea, because Lu's got fantastic
- 1:34:06taste. Yeah, yeah, and Stilly Dan right, well that's what bound
- 1:34:10us together at the beginning. But you know, she unliked me. She
- 1:34:15kept listening to music throughout the two thousands. Row. It's kind of like
- 1:34:18no picked in the nineties. I'm scuffing at the Prodigy. I came out
- 1:34:23in January two thousand. I don't care. Oh man, all right,
- 1:34:30one more, pick one more. Rachel McClean, did you ever have a
- 1:34:32hobby or were interested at that an interest that annoyed your parents. It's besides
- 1:34:40that the costs. I can imagine my mom being annoyed that I'd liked playing
- 1:34:42football because it's like eight am and like winchell c. I'm like, oh
- 1:34:45god, this is not how I want to be spending my Saturday morning.
- 1:34:46And I wasn't like thirty five, you know, it's like Alice's last football,
- 1:34:50just like i'd been prepared Nickel, we have to be envy, like
- 1:34:53seven thirty in the morning on a Saturday, and she's like, oh no,
- 1:34:56which that's like I love the voice. Oh no, never fu I've
- 1:35:00got ten kids and they're running around. Did you ever hobby that or interest
- 1:35:03that annoyed your parents are probably like, no, hobby, you're on interest.
- 1:35:09I don't think I did. I think. I think as you get
- 1:35:14older, I mean I don't have kids, but just you know, being
- 1:35:17close to your parents age, particularly when you're in middle age and even sort
- 1:35:21of like the upper end of middle age pretty elderly, like you start to
- 1:35:28think, oh god, they sacrifice so much in terms of not necessarily money,
- 1:35:32although I'm pretty sure my folks their time is more valuable than sometimes,
- 1:35:38you know, I mean the best years of their lives like that, and
- 1:35:41that's Nickela. We're gonna lose the best year. We're gonna lose it.
- 1:35:43But it's like just people have had a lot of our time is going to
- 1:35:45be dedicated to their interests basketball and football and dancing and well yeah, but
- 1:35:49I mean that's kind of like good stuff. I mean I'm talking about I
- 1:35:54remember we're in England and I was reading about Oh this great Sunds fixed in
- 1:35:59bookshop. Just get these camera, but can I give you? And they
- 1:36:00had to sort of tag along because you were too young. Yeah, I
- 1:36:03mean there were certainly plenty occasions when we lived in London and I was like
- 1:36:09nine or ten years old, I would just take the tube to the other
- 1:36:11side of town. I go to Charing Cross Road and just check out the
- 1:36:13bookshops there and I did that. Solomm's like, I can't believe you'll let
- 1:36:17you do that. I'm like, I'm glad you did. It was super
- 1:36:19cool and I kind of feel like residual guilt that for all the occasions,
- 1:36:26and there weren't that many, but still when they had to sort of hang
- 1:36:29around some ultra nerdy bookshop. You know, they look probably looking, what
- 1:36:33the fuck is our son into Bobby? Bobby. Bobby's like, why can't
- 1:36:36you play footy? Did Bobby ever buy Yoka footy as a present hoping to
- 1:36:43kick it? Oh? Yeah, but I wanted that as well. I
- 1:36:45mean, it's not like I had no interest in sport or anything like that.
- 1:36:47I just wasn't that good at it. So you had no you are
- 1:36:50not my son moment. God bless Bobby names. You never did that.
- 1:37:00So, I mean, I don't think these were habits or hobbies that sort
- 1:37:02of annoyed my parents, But I sort of think they must have had times
- 1:37:06when I was great to the head, like Okay, well this is this
- 1:37:10is the dis it, this is the deal we had to we brought this
- 1:37:15person in the world. We're gonna have to take too much fun and never
- 1:37:17pay the price. We had fun that New Year's Even nine months later,
- 1:37:23this little nerd comes out to their credit. I mean, I don't think
- 1:37:26they ever said I can't believe we had to, you know, take it
- 1:37:29to the movies or some shit like that. I mean, I remember Dad
- 1:37:30took me like a midnight screening of some science fiction movie and wasn't The black
- 1:37:34Hole. No no, I mean we did that together when we did like
- 1:37:39the double feature of Star Trek and the Black Hole Trek Star Trek. Then
- 1:37:42the black Hole we didn't go to feature. That was great. But now
- 1:37:46there was one night where it was in this local rep cinema when we were
- 1:37:51living in Oxford outside London, and I'd heard about this movie. It was
- 1:37:57it's called Dark Star, like John Carpenters. Yeah. Yeah. There were
- 1:38:01like two movies, two midnight movies. On one was The Creature of the
- 1:38:03Black Lagram. One was a Dark Star, and I get the feeling like
- 1:38:05we'd seen Creature little back Lagoon. That wouldn't have been so bad because it
- 1:38:08was kind of fifties kind of Dad's Zero, but it's always sort dark,
- 1:38:10So that was just kind of a weird hippieish seventies movie when not a lot
- 1:38:14happens. It's actually not that good. Your dad had great sideburns, but
- 1:38:15I can't imagine him being a hippie, no, no, no. And
- 1:38:20the morning Aunt, I was like that man had the patience of a fucking
- 1:38:24saints taking me out late at night. It's like, when you were telling
- 1:38:28the story, you're trying to find your friend's house and you're driving you there
- 1:38:30and have no idea where it was. Yeah, I was like, I
- 1:38:31can't remember the name of the street, but it passed this pizza place,
- 1:38:35and I mean we're in moolap right and having to actually go to someone's I
- 1:38:43was like, can I look it up in your phone book? Place?
- 1:38:45Where's your mailways? Aren't you? Bob dass? Did he have? Did
- 1:38:50he ever follow to the door? No, don't. I don't know if
- 1:38:53he did. I can't remember if he did. My parents gone, Jenny,
- 1:38:57You're never guesses at the door. Bob Davis and his fuck with son.
- 1:39:04Yeah, he seemed very patient. That's what he certainly did. I'm
- 1:39:08pointing out all the terrible things there were many men, the things that I
- 1:39:13knowing his parents were his existence. I'm just doing it. I'm just pointing
- 1:39:18at my face right now. Oh but enough about but this turned into a
- 1:39:25big therapy. I should have bothered Loo with this anyway. Do you have
- 1:39:30something to add about this? And like that, I can't remember. Let's
- 1:39:34just wrap it up there, guy, why are you crying? I just
- 1:39:43charged not enough. You're like the case study. He's like, gets a
- 1:39:53patient. You think you get brown, You're not at rock bottom yet on
- 1:40:01the guy scale, like a fire. It's a picture of beatings. If
- 1:40:09you see that, there's that thing on Netflix and un called pain Killer.
- 1:40:11Do you know that I've seen the picture and there's the picture of like on
- 1:40:15your pain and you know they've look at these various faces, like you know,
- 1:40:17you've got the big smile for number one, it's like, is your
- 1:40:20paint a tent? You got the really sad thing the guy's scale, like
- 1:40:27on the self loading scale, are you yeah? Oh boy? Anyway,
- 1:40:35please addit all this out. This is terrible, This is this is not
