- 1:12Speaker 3: hour of hell.
- 1:33Speaker 6: What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown's Attack of the
- 1:35Speaker 6: Killer soundtrack. I am Brian.
- 1:36Speaker 2: And I'm George.
- 1:37Speaker 6: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:39Speaker 6: the Oddity Studios for another soundtrack episode, but specifically, since
- 1:45Speaker 6: last time we referenced our big love for end credit
- 1:48Speaker 6: songs and... We were already leaning towards a lot of
- 1:52Speaker 6: horror when we, as we said before, decided let's just
- 1:55Speaker 6: go ahead and lean into it for a whole episode.
- 1:59Speaker 6: We are back for a very spooky episode for our
- 2:02Speaker 6: Halloween fun.
- 2:03Speaker 2: So spoopy.
- 2:04Speaker 6: Of end credits songs, big finale songs, anything to round
- 2:09Speaker 6: out your horror movie, we're going to throw it in
- 2:12Speaker 6: the mix here. That's right, yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Got some fun stuff here, I think.
- 2:15Speaker 6: But for that, just to ease our way into the
- 2:18Speaker 6: Halloween season, number one, I busted out the Legos.
- 2:23Speaker 7: Ah, yes.
- 2:23Speaker 6: So this time we have a spooky old house that
- 2:26Speaker 6: we've decided to investigate.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I love it.
- 2:29Speaker 6: And of course you were like, okay, we can go there,
- 2:32Speaker 6: but we got to at least stay on the path.
- 2:33Speaker 6: I was like, but look at that house in the
- 2:34Speaker 6: moors over there. And then I ran over to the
- 2:37Speaker 6: moors and then look, now there's a werewolf coming out
- 2:39Speaker 6: of the bushes to attack.
- 2:40Speaker 2: So my god i.
- 2:42Speaker 6: Obviously have led us astray.
- 2:44Speaker 2: You know every single time you want to go to
- 2:47Speaker 2: the moors and there's a werewolf let me let me
- 2:50Speaker 2: check this house here i mean let's do you know
- 2:52Speaker 2: somebody's trying to board up the windows but it's been
- 2:54Speaker 2: a very lazy job here because they only use like
- 2:56Speaker 2: one board i mean that's all you need you know
- 2:59Speaker 2: uh the roof looks like it needs some some severe
- 3:01Speaker 2: replacement here it's falling apart yeah so it's a definitely
- 3:04Speaker 2: it's a fixer-upper but uh Of course, the werewolf's kind
- 3:08Speaker 2: of back there, so we've got a little bit of
- 3:11Speaker 2: room to run.
- 3:12Speaker 6: If we know it's coming. If not, it's just going
- 3:15Speaker 6: to pounce.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Well, I've got to tell you, I'm kind of a
- 3:17Speaker 2: fast runner.
- 3:18Speaker 6: I'm not, I found recently when I had to, and
- 3:22Speaker 6: it was not a good thing. I've realized, oh, I
- 3:25Speaker 6: used to run a lot when I was young a
- 3:28Speaker 6: million years ago, and then I haven't even attempted in
- 3:31Speaker 6: so long that when I needed to.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I went, Oh, I can't do that anymore. So, I'm
- 3:36Speaker 2: werewolf food is what I'm saying.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Well, my height brings me a lot of advantages. Like,
- 3:40Speaker 2: I take one step for every, like, two or three
- 3:42Speaker 2: an average person would take. So, you know, again, yeah, you're... Sorry, dude.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I just have to be faster than you. Unless there's
- 3:50Speaker 2: two werewolves, then we're screwed.
- 3:52Speaker 6: That's true. I know somewhere I have at least one,
- 3:55Speaker 6: if not some other one. So, I can work them
- 3:57Speaker 6: in the other bushes on the other side there.
- 3:59Speaker 2: But.
- 4:00Speaker 6: You're listening to us describe this. I will post at
- 4:02Speaker 6: least one, if not a couple of photos of this
- 4:05Speaker 6: little adventure that we're having on Facebook.
- 4:07Speaker 2: I love it, though. Maybe there's a werewolf on top,
- 4:10Speaker 2: like on the roof or something. I've already pounced on it.
- 4:11Speaker 6: There's definitely a ghost in the house. I know that.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 4:15Speaker 6: Okay. But, yeah. So, I hadn't done a full-on Lego
- 4:21Speaker 6: holiday theme since last year's holiday festivities. So, I thought
- 4:26Speaker 6: I better... Build a fallen down house and give us
- 4:28Speaker 6: some sort of adventure to get into.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I love it. Or maybe we have to run into
- 4:31Speaker 2: the house to escape from the wolf.
- 4:33Speaker 6: And fight off the ghost. I don't know how much
- 4:36Speaker 6: physical action this ghost has. We haven't decided yet.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I mean, you know, iron and fire are best ways
- 4:41Speaker 2: to take out a ghost. You know, if the ghost
- 4:44Speaker 2: has something, you know, an attachment to something, you burn
- 4:47Speaker 2: that and you're good. Or, you know, if a ghost
- 4:49Speaker 2: is coming at you, a nice iron chain or a
- 4:51Speaker 2: fire poker or something like that, man.
- 4:54Speaker 6: I mean, if we're making a horror movie, we have
- 4:56Speaker 6: to grab the fire poker.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Well, yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 6: I've started making a list of movies that do that
- 5:00Speaker 6: because it's so cliche that any, if not a horror movie,
- 5:05Speaker 6: any horrible goings on in your family, some sort of
- 5:10Speaker 6: a husband cheating on you movie, like, Take your pick.
- 5:13Speaker 6: Any number of movies, you're going to grab the fireplace
- 5:15Speaker 6: poker and somebody's going to get smacked in the head
- 5:17Speaker 6: with it.
- 5:19Speaker 2: It's good for a blunt object, but if you're dealing
- 5:21Speaker 2: with the paranormal, specifically ghosts, spooks, specters, poltergeists, iron and fire.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I learned all my monster hunting stuff from the Winchester brothers.
- 5:36Speaker 6: See, I'm more old school. I learned everything I know
- 5:38Speaker 6: from Scooby-Doo.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Well, Scooby-Doo didn't find anything. They ran from stuff. And
- 5:43Speaker 2: that's exactly the point.
- 5:45Speaker 6: Although we have to make the bongo noise when we
- 5:46Speaker 6: get ready to run.
- 5:47Speaker 2: That's true, yeah, yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 6: And our feet kind of have to stay in the
- 5:50Speaker 6: same place for a minute, which is why the werewolf
- 5:52Speaker 6: will catch us. And I can get down.
- 5:54Speaker 2: On those sandwiches that Shaggy and Scoob make from time
- 5:56Speaker 2: to time.
- 5:57Speaker 1: That's true.
- 5:58Speaker 6: I mean, sometimes there's too much chocolate sauce mixed with
- 6:00Speaker 6: your pickles, but yeah, whatever, you know, you just try it.
- 6:04Speaker 6: You never know. Sometimes it'll come out all right.
- 6:06Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 6:08Speaker 6: So, Legos is one, it's a newer tradition, but the
- 6:11Speaker 6: oldest of all traditions for the Halloween episodes.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Uh-oh. Gotta bust out the, oh man, some Halloween candy here.
- 6:20Speaker 2: What do we got here? Oh, we got a pumpkin
- 6:24Speaker 2: pie Kit Kat.
- 6:25Speaker 6: I wanted to get specifically, not just random, you know,
- 6:28Speaker 6: fun size Kit Kats, but one that you can't pretend
- 6:32Speaker 6: doesn't have something to do with Halloween. Now, whether or
- 6:34Speaker 6: not anybody wants them, I've realized, normally not. But I'm like, well,
- 6:38Speaker 6: that's good, because then I can just give them away.
- 6:40Speaker 6: I can be like, here, go over to see the
- 6:43Speaker 6: kids on Halloween and be like, those are nice costumes. Here,
- 6:45Speaker 6: eat this stuff. Nobody else wants it. So I kind
- 6:48Speaker 6: of like those, but I feel like a little goes
- 6:49Speaker 6: a long way on those.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm glad they're the small size here. But yeah,
- 6:52Speaker 2: you're right. It's not bad, but it's definitely like... It's interesting, yeah.
- 6:56Speaker 2: I mean, it's like a crunchy pumpkin pie, because you
- 6:58Speaker 2: got the wafer thing there. But yeah, I don't hate it.
- 7:01Speaker 6: And, of course, the Reese Cups. You can't go wrong.
- 7:04Speaker 6: And they have special little ghosts and stuff on the wrappers.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Oh, that's awesome.
- 7:08Speaker 6: You can't go wrong with Reese Cups. And that is new.
- 7:11Speaker 6: In many years, I've discussed the Ghost Bowl. I think
- 7:14Speaker 6: I found it recently, and now it's reshuffled back into
- 7:17Speaker 6: the mess. So I normally have a tiny little Skull Bowl.
- 7:21Speaker 6: I ran into that recently. That is a Day of
- 7:23Speaker 6: the Dead Skull Bowl that I thought was really nice. So, yep,
- 7:27Speaker 6: that's what I went with this year. Day of the Dead.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Far out.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Of course, we got our household decorated up. We
- 7:33Speaker 2: have these new remote control candles. They're like, you know,
- 7:37Speaker 2: they're battery operated and whatnot. But yeah, you hit them
- 7:39Speaker 2: with a remote, man. It's like, those are awesome. So
- 7:41Speaker 2: we got those in our pumpkins out front.
- 7:44Speaker 6: I've got a few things. Sad thing is I usually
- 7:47Speaker 6: end up buying like my normal household items for the
- 7:49Speaker 6: entire year in October. I've got a new coffee mug.
- 7:54Speaker 6: Almost every year I'm like, ooh, a mug with ghosts
- 7:56Speaker 6: on it. Yes, I need that. So I've got one
- 7:58Speaker 6: of those sitting in the kitchen there. um i also
- 8:01Speaker 6: i'm getting this weird table at the same time found
- 8:04Speaker 6: this weird little drive-in that's haunted that is now sitting
- 8:08Speaker 6: on top of it so i love that that's cool
- 8:10Speaker 6: i was like that's kind of cool it's it's got
- 8:13Speaker 6: palm trees and an outdoor drive-in setting but it's also
- 8:15Speaker 6: got little ghosts on the screen and a bat so
- 8:18Speaker 6: it's a nice halloween tie-in for for also being a
- 8:21Speaker 6: movie geek so excellent i like that um yeah.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I haven't really you know purchased any like you know
- 8:26Speaker 2: decorations and stuff outside of what my wife has got,
- 8:28Speaker 2: but comic-wise, there's been a lot of cool horror stuff
- 8:31Speaker 2: come out. Most notable, especially for film fans, is the
- 8:36Speaker 2: Night of the Ghoul series. The first issue just came
- 8:39Speaker 2: out a couple weeks ago when we were recording this
- 8:42Speaker 2: thing here, but our creative team is writer Scott Snyder,
- 8:46Speaker 2: who's a superstar writer in comics, did a lot of
- 8:48Speaker 2: Batman and tons of other stuff, and then artist Francesco Francavia. which,
- 8:54Speaker 2: you know, of course, you may know him best from, like,
- 8:56Speaker 2: a lot of the afterlife with Archie and Jughead the Hunger. Like, basically,
- 8:59Speaker 2: when they do, like, the darker side of Riverdale, they
- 9:02Speaker 2: call Francesco, because Art, like, has a throwback kind of
- 9:05Speaker 2: feel to it, but he does horror so well. Nice.
- 9:08Speaker 2: But the plot of this one is that, basically, Night
- 9:10Speaker 2: of the Ghoul was supposedly one of these lost horror movies. Like,
- 9:14Speaker 2: it may have gone up in the 46th Universal Fire,
- 9:17Speaker 2: you know, like, you know, London After Midnight and Man
- 9:20Speaker 2: Who Lives, that sort of thing. Yeah. So... Anyway, so
- 9:25Speaker 2: this film fanatic, he and his son find this very
- 9:29Speaker 2: out-of-the-way old folks home that turns out the director of
- 9:32Speaker 2: the film has been living there in secrecy for years.
- 9:35Speaker 2: And so the dad goes and talks to him, and
- 9:37Speaker 2: basically it seems like there's a very strange, weird conspiracy
- 9:41Speaker 2: about this movie and why it was destroyed, not because
- 9:45Speaker 2: of the reason. Maybe it was for a sinister purpose.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Maybe the ghoul is actually real and kind of like, Basically,
- 9:53Speaker 2: the ghoul essentially was the reason for all the folklore
- 9:57Speaker 2: that created all the monsters. Like, basically, it would drain people's...
- 10:00Speaker 2: blood and so again that was blamed for vampires or
- 10:02Speaker 2: it was you know would cause this sort of sickness
- 10:04Speaker 2: that was blamed for zombies or it would do this
- 10:07Speaker 2: and this and this and you know so it's like
- 10:09Speaker 2: it seemed like maybe the ghoul was the ultimate monster
- 10:11Speaker 2: this could have been the ultimate movie but maybe the
- 10:13Speaker 2: movie was a.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Warning patient zero of all monsters.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Yeah uh but yeah just the art is amazing the
- 10:18Speaker 2: story is very compelling And it's really cool, too, because
- 10:22Speaker 2: Francesco's art changes when we're doing flashbacks, looking at the film,
- 10:27Speaker 2: to when we're back into the modern day, talking from
- 10:29Speaker 2: the dad and the film director. Of course, the film
- 10:31Speaker 2: director does not look very good, so it looks like
- 10:33Speaker 2: he's perhaps maybe a burn victim himself.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Mauled by the creature. Something.
- 10:38Speaker 2: But yeah, there are some sinister things afoot. So I
- 10:40Speaker 2: believe this is like a three-issue series. But after the
- 10:44Speaker 2: first issue is released, Warner Bros. is like, hey, you
- 10:45Speaker 2: know what? We're going to make a movie out of this.
- 10:47Speaker 3: That is? Yeah.
- 10:48Speaker 6: So it's... Will they then purposely lose it to make
- 10:52Speaker 6: it all come full circle?
- 10:53Speaker 2: That's a good point, yeah.
- 10:54Speaker 6: I feel like not, because that's not a good way
- 10:56Speaker 6: to make money, but, you know, it would be interesting
- 10:59Speaker 6: to pull that maneuver.
- 11:00Speaker 2: But, yeah, it's a very, very cool story. Like, it's
- 11:03Speaker 2: just the first issue. It's like, I got you. You
- 11:05Speaker 2: got me in. Yeah, I'm good to go.
- 11:08Speaker 6: Well, that does sound cool. Yeah, I rarely get around
- 11:11Speaker 6: to reading comics anymore. As much as I like them
- 11:14Speaker 6: and grew up with them, it's, yeah, it's... Too many
- 11:17Speaker 6: other things. I can't keep driving.
- 11:18Speaker 2: And you would live in the vicinity of two very
- 11:20Speaker 2: nice comic book stores, being Great Escape and The Zone.
- 11:25Speaker 6: Most of my childhood was spent trying to convince somebody
- 11:28Speaker 6: to go to Great Escape because I couldn't drive yet.
- 11:31Speaker 6: So I was just like, I need to go somewhere.
- 11:35Speaker 6: Why it became such an ordeal each time, I don't know.
- 11:38Speaker 6: You'd think eventually they'd be like, all right, come on,
- 11:40Speaker 6: let's go. They just know where I want to go.
- 11:42Speaker 6: But trying to lure someone to take me to the
- 11:44Speaker 6: Great Escape was most of my childhood.
- 11:46Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Growing up in southern Indiana, the Great Escape, I wouldn't
- 11:50Speaker 2: even know about it as a kid because that was Louisville.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Louisville seemed like a foreign country. But we had a
- 11:56Speaker 2: Walgreens for a while. And then somewhere in the mid-90s,
- 11:59Speaker 2: there was a sports card store popped up that sold
- 12:02Speaker 2: new books. And to compete with it, the Ben Franklin
- 12:05Speaker 2: also sold comics that was kind of nearby. But then
- 12:08Speaker 2: like a proper comic seller came. came in and bought
- 12:12Speaker 2: the sports card store and turned it into Empire Comics,
- 12:15Speaker 2: which is still around today.
- 12:16Speaker 6: Get these sports cards out of the way.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Well, it literally was. It was like, we sold baseball cards,
- 12:21Speaker 2: other sports memorabilia. Oh, yeah, by the way, over on
- 12:23Speaker 2: this wall, here's some new comics.
- 12:25Speaker 6: It's comic book guy from The Simpsons, basically.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Well, yeah, kind of, but maybe it's still like it was.
- 12:29Speaker 6: Here's my Android comic books, but oh, yeah, we've also
- 12:31Speaker 6: got baseball cards over there.
- 12:32Speaker 2: But he would get more things than the Walgreens. The
- 12:34Speaker 2: Walgreens would get the top ten Marvel titles. You just
- 12:37Speaker 2: had the spinner rack.
- 12:38Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly. The one we had up the street was
- 12:40Speaker 6: the same thing. I'm like, look at this Teen Titans.
- 12:44Speaker 6: Everything I got was one issue because I would just
- 12:46Speaker 6: wander in and be like, what is this?
- 12:49Speaker 2: Again, you don't get... At least back then, I don't know.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Eventually I got to where I was into series, but.
- 12:55Speaker 6: In the beginning, it was just like a comic book.
- 12:57Speaker 6: This is great.
- 12:58Speaker 2: And they kind of wrote them that way on purpose.
- 13:00Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 13:01Speaker 2: It was kind of like Marvel. DC kind of started
- 13:03Speaker 2: a little bit first with kind of the summer annuals
- 13:08Speaker 2: they would do where they would get like the Justice
- 13:09Speaker 2: League and the Justice Society together and do like a
- 13:13Speaker 2: little multiversal crossover thing. And it was just a one-issue annual,
- 13:18Speaker 2: but they would keep referring to those annuals throughout the
- 13:21Speaker 2: other years. Like, oh, yeah, I remember last year when
- 13:23Speaker 2: we had to fight this and this. And then a
- 13:25Speaker 2: little asterisk is like, see?
- 13:27Speaker 11: See?
- 13:27Speaker 6: 162.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 13:28Speaker 6: We'll get 162. Yeah.
- 13:30Speaker 2: And so then Marvel also kind of in the 60s
- 13:32Speaker 2: is like, well, we're going to do a continuous story.
- 13:33Speaker 2: They did the Kree-Skrull War, which introduced Captain Marvel, the
- 13:37Speaker 2: OG Captain Marvel, before Carol Danvers came in. But, yeah,
- 13:40Speaker 2: so there's always– it was mostly like an issue-to-issue sort
- 13:43Speaker 2: of thing. Because of the fact that they knew the
- 13:46Speaker 2: kids weren't getting each and every issue. They were just
- 13:48Speaker 2: getting the ones they could find on the newsstand.
- 13:50Speaker 6: It was a very different world back then. It really was.
- 13:52Speaker 2: And now you've got comic book stores. If you can't
- 13:55Speaker 2: find the issues, it's because you don't have a subscription
- 13:56Speaker 2: file with your favorite store. So, you know.
- 13:59Speaker 6: You're doing it wrong.
- 14:00Speaker 2: You're doing it wrong. And they got the apps. A
- 14:03Speaker 2: lot of most stores have the apps now. So, it's
- 14:05Speaker 2: all convenient and high tech and stuff like that.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I mean, it's.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Come on, folks.
- 14:10Speaker 6: This is why I'm out of the loop. But being
- 14:13Speaker 6: the kids that we were, super dorky, into comic books,
- 14:16Speaker 6: we were also into these horror movies.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Yes, we were.
- 14:19Speaker 6: And as I was going through, it was like half
- 14:20Speaker 6: of these tied to that era or the era right
- 14:24Speaker 6: after that with a few for me. So yeah, this
- 14:27Speaker 6: is a nice mindset of how we got to these
- 14:30Speaker 6: horror movies and our horror geekdom. Yeah.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Yeah you're right i mean my list i have two
- 14:36Speaker 2: movies that are in the 2000s other than that my
- 14:38Speaker 2: movies are entirely in the 80s yeah yeah which i.
- 14:41Speaker 6: I figured and then i was going with some newer
- 14:44Speaker 6: ones and then fell back and did older stuff as
- 14:47Speaker 6: i went so yeah it's it's all rooted there.
- 14:50Speaker 2: But it's interesting that we're you know of course talking
- 14:52Speaker 2: about horror movie uh you know like ending songs and
- 14:56Speaker 2: kind of like this is like the cap to you
- 14:58Speaker 2: know the movie and kind of like sometimes you know
- 15:00Speaker 2: like Again, the 80s just seemed to be the heyday
- 15:03Speaker 2: for songs written for movies. Didn't matter what movie it was.
- 15:06Speaker 6: I think it's also because that didn't happen before much. Like,
- 15:10Speaker 6: you know, you had tons of old scores for movies
- 15:13Speaker 6: from back to, you know, once we get out of
- 15:15Speaker 6: silent film from that point on, you have people writing
- 15:18Speaker 6: a score for a specific film. We have a ton
- 15:20Speaker 6: of stuff. Even like 70s, we start working in kind
- 15:22Speaker 6: of pop music along the way, but not a ton
- 15:25Speaker 6: of like, This.
- 15:27Speaker 12: Is a big deal.
- 15:27Speaker 6: We're going to make this happen. As you get to
- 15:32Speaker 6: Butch and Sundance, you've got a song that's tied specifically
- 15:36Speaker 6: to a scene. It's got a very heavy crossover there.
- 15:38Speaker 6: But that was the kind of thing that would be
- 15:40Speaker 6: thrown in every once in a while. The 80s just
- 15:43Speaker 6: ushered in a whole new era of this is a
- 15:46Speaker 6: new type of film we're making now, especially in horror.
- 15:49Speaker 6: And we've got all these rock stars that are just
- 15:51Speaker 6: hanging around. Not that they don't have anything to do,
- 15:54Speaker 6: but they're also... half the time big horror geeks so
- 15:57Speaker 6: like they want to be involved in these movies so
- 16:00Speaker 6: it just brought with it like sort of hand in
- 16:02Speaker 6: hand here's this specific song that this dorky rock star
- 16:06Speaker 6: wanted to make for your dorky horror movie and it
- 16:08Speaker 6: all just comes together so yeah i think that's why
- 16:11Speaker 6: there's such a push because it was like a new
- 16:13Speaker 6: thing we decided oh we can do this yeah hell
- 16:16Speaker 6: yeah we're gonna do this.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Yeah but yeah you're like you with the exception of
- 16:20Speaker 2: like the musicals like the 40s through the 60s that
- 16:22Speaker 2: was really your only movie genre that was you can
- 16:25Speaker 2: depend A connotation like your westerns. Shane had a song
- 16:31Speaker 2: specifically written for the movie. But yeah, they weren't, not
- 16:35Speaker 2: all of them were pop songs. The 60s kind of
- 16:38Speaker 2: ushered that in. Like you said, Butch and Sundance, Midnight Cowboy.
- 16:44Speaker 6: But even then, it was very singer-songwriter. It was the
- 16:46Speaker 6: music of that time more so than by the time
- 16:49Speaker 6: you get to the 80s, it is the music of
- 16:51Speaker 6: its time as well, most of the time.
- 16:53Speaker 13: It is, yeah.
- 16:54Speaker 2: I mean, this was just like It just seemed like
- 16:56Speaker 2: a golden era. But the interesting thing is that every
- 17:00Speaker 2: now and then you'll see modern movies. They don't so
- 17:04Speaker 2: much have a song written for the movie, but they
- 17:06Speaker 2: just really cleverly do one. And since we're talking horror
- 17:10Speaker 2: movies like one that's in theaters currently is Barbarian, which
- 17:14Speaker 2: I won't say anything about the movie because I enjoyed
- 17:17Speaker 2: it thoroughly. But the less you know going into it,
- 17:19Speaker 2: the better. Uh, so don't stop watching the trailer. Just
- 17:23Speaker 2: go buy a ticket and go check it out. It's fun.
- 17:25Speaker 2: It's creepy. It's great. Uh, but they, the usage of
- 17:28Speaker 2: be my baby, uh, will kick you in the pants. Uh, it's, it's, yeah, it's,
- 17:34Speaker 2: it's great. It's just, it's genius ending to it. And yeah,
- 17:37Speaker 2: but yeah, it's awesome.
- 17:38Speaker 6: And I love that. Sometimes it's, it's just a fun
- 17:41Speaker 6: song and they tie it in, in a specific way.
- 17:44Speaker 6: And other times it's, oh, this is so well put
- 17:47Speaker 6: together from your dorky filmmaking side of things, where you
- 17:51Speaker 6: were like, you were sitting at home writing this movie, going,
- 17:53Speaker 6: and I'm gonna get rights to that song, and it's
- 17:55Speaker 6: gonna just really cap it off at the end, and like, that's,
- 17:59Speaker 6: I've got at least one of those, if not several,
- 18:01Speaker 6: that that's how they happen.
- 18:03Speaker 2: You know? My two modern days definitely are, this is,
- 18:06Speaker 2: you know, the songs that were, the filmmaker or producer
- 18:10Speaker 2: or somebody picked those specifically for this movie to end
- 18:14Speaker 2: the tale with, but The majority of the songs I
- 18:16Speaker 2: picked were, if they weren't covers made for the film,
- 18:20Speaker 2: they were definitely written for the film.
- 18:23Speaker 6: There are a lot of covers. Yeah, we did do one.
- 18:25Speaker 6: And that's what I was trying to decide with this too.
- 18:27Speaker 6: We did do an episode many years ago that was
- 18:30Speaker 6: horror covers that were just in general, just cover songs. And, um,
- 18:35Speaker 6: so I think there's, there's not much crossover with that one.
- 18:38Speaker 6: I'm actually avoiding one specifically, but, um, There's a few
- 18:42Speaker 6: I think we're going to work in anyway. Because I
- 18:44Speaker 6: was like, I don't know. I've tried not to do
- 18:47Speaker 6: tons of the same song over the years, obviously. But
- 18:50Speaker 6: at the same time, when do you not listen to
- 18:53Speaker 6: a song more than once? When do you not get
- 18:55Speaker 6: together with your friends and listen to, I really love
- 18:57Speaker 6: this song, and you play it?
- 18:58Speaker 2: That's what we're doing.
- 18:59Speaker 6: And it's also been years on many of these. So
- 19:04Speaker 6: if we play one again, eh, deal with it.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Or if it's a favorite song of yours that you
- 19:08Speaker 2: normally have in your playlist, or you... It's a song
- 19:11Speaker 2: you only want to listen to around on Halloween or
- 19:13Speaker 2: whatever else. Yeah, whatever else.
- 19:15Speaker 6: But there's so many general just random pop songs that
- 19:18Speaker 6: I like.
- 19:19Speaker 2: And now because I put it into whatever I'm– usually
- 19:22Speaker 2: it's a streaming thing.
- 19:24Speaker 6: And I'll put it in. I listen to the same
- 19:26Speaker 6: songs every damn day. They're just on in the background.
- 19:29Speaker 6: I'm not paying that much attention. But I'm like, eh,
- 19:32Speaker 6: we listen to songs more than once. So we'll throw
- 19:35Speaker 6: some extras in here along the way.
- 19:36Speaker 2: That's right. But I think we've got some nice variety here.
- 19:40Speaker 6: Yeah, we're definitely mixing it up. But last time we
- 19:43Speaker 6: bounced back and forth. This time I thought you've got
- 19:45Speaker 6: a lot of specific themed movements. So we'll just let you.
- 19:50Speaker 6: knock yours out and then I'll round it out with whatever,
- 19:53Speaker 6: whatever you haven't already covered.
- 19:55Speaker 2: All right. Well, Basically, one, I got to start this
- 19:59Speaker 2: one off the top because I championed this movie. I
- 20:03Speaker 2: don't know if I'm alone in this or not. I'm
- 20:05Speaker 2: sure there's got to be other fans of this movie.
- 20:07Speaker 2: But before the trick or treat that was done in
- 20:11Speaker 2: 2002 that we all know and love, the anthology movie,
- 20:14Speaker 2: there was trick or treat that came out in 1986.
- 20:17Speaker 2: I saw it.
- 20:20Speaker 6: Again, I didn't go to the movies a ton at
- 20:23Speaker 6: that point. So most of what I saw was cable.
- 20:26Speaker 6: And I definitely saw it on cable that year when
- 20:29Speaker 6: it came out. And again, I think even at the time,
- 20:34Speaker 6: I appreciated the stunt casting more than anything. I mean,
- 20:37Speaker 6: it's goofy enough that Skippy's in there. We talked to
- 20:42Speaker 6: him about that movie years ago, so that's how long
- 20:44Speaker 6: ago this was.
- 20:45Speaker 2: I'm jealous.
- 20:49Speaker 6: Oh, Mark. Anyway, but yeah, the fact that they work
- 20:54Speaker 6: in Gene Simmons.
- 20:55Speaker 12: Mm-hmm.
- 20:56Speaker 6: Being super cool Gene Simmons. God forbid he not be,
- 20:59Speaker 6: you know, cool. More impressively to me was not worried
- 21:03Speaker 6: about being cool is Ozzy Osbourne who plays the exact opposite.
- 21:07Speaker 2: He plays the priest.
- 21:08Speaker 6: He plays the priest and he is the dorkiest priest
- 21:11Speaker 6: trying to keep down rock and roll because it's evil.
- 21:13Speaker 6: And I was like, that's great stunt casting right there.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that was perfect.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:17Speaker 2: You know, the funny thing was that as some of
- 21:20Speaker 2: the casting goes in this movie, originally for... the Sammy Kerr,
- 21:24Speaker 2: the dead rock star come back to life. Originally, they
- 21:28Speaker 2: wanted Blackie Lawless from Wasp to play this character.
- 21:31Speaker 6: Which has the look.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I can see that. He absolutely has the look. And
- 21:34Speaker 2: he was totally on board until the producers told him, oh,
- 21:37Speaker 2: we're getting fast way to do the soundtrack. He's like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 21:40Speaker 2: It's like, you realize I have a band named Wasp.
- 21:43Speaker 6: That's kind of what I do.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I can do my own damn music, thank you very much.
- 21:49Speaker 2: And so he said, see you, bye-bye. And Fastway wasn't
- 21:53Speaker 2: any bigger than Wasp. Like, that's a weird... I would
- 21:56Speaker 2: dare say at the time Wasp was bigger than Fastway.
- 21:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I was like, to me, I don't think I
- 22:00Speaker 6: knew of Fastway until I'd seen that movie and went, oh,
- 22:03Speaker 6: that's an actual band.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:04Speaker 6: Like, but I knew who Wasp was. Like, that's weird.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Of course, like this movie just, it spoke
- 22:12Speaker 2: to me on... numerous, numerous levels because I was a
- 22:15Speaker 2: metal kid. Was, you know, picked on because of my
- 22:19Speaker 2: musical taste at the time when everybody else was listening
- 22:21Speaker 2: to LL Cool J or whatnot. And I was way
- 22:24Speaker 2: into Ozzy and Kiss. So this movie spoke to me
- 22:29Speaker 2: on numerous levels because I was a bit of a
- 22:32Speaker 2: Motorhead fan too. I knew that basically like, you know, oh,
- 22:36Speaker 2: this guy, the lead kind of the guitarist for Fastway
- 22:40Speaker 2: and who part of the band was named after. He
- 22:42Speaker 2: was originally in Motorhead, so this is his band after
- 22:45Speaker 2: he left and whatnot. But yeah, interestingly enough, the lead
- 22:48Speaker 2: singer of Fastway, 20 years later, goes on to form
- 22:51Speaker 2: the band Flogging Molly. So yes, Dave King. Odd move. Well,
- 22:57Speaker 2: Dave kind of like basically got very fed up with
- 22:59Speaker 2: the American rock scene after Fastway kind of dissolved. And
- 23:03Speaker 2: they had like their little bit of fame and then
- 23:04Speaker 2: it petered out and The band broke up. I kind
- 23:06Speaker 2: of jazzed like, yeah. So he got very discouraged about
- 23:09Speaker 2: the American rock scene and moved back home to Ireland
- 23:12Speaker 2: and then started getting back into music and then slowly
- 23:14Speaker 2: but surely formed his own band and now Flogging Molly
- 23:17Speaker 2: has been more famous, I'd say, than Fastway ever was.
- 23:22Speaker 2: But it's so funny, like, you can still hear his voice.
- 23:25Speaker 2: He doesn't have as high of a register that he
- 23:26Speaker 2: had in his youth, but you could still hear the voice,
- 23:29Speaker 2: but he lets the Irish brogue come through a lot more.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Every now and then, fast forward, the way he would
- 23:35Speaker 2: say a word or sing a word, I'm like, what
- 23:37Speaker 2: the hell is that pronunciation?
- 23:38Speaker 6: Did he use some weird Irish immigrant?
- 23:40Speaker 2: But then I found, oh, he's Irish. Okay, yeah. The
- 23:44Speaker 2: way he pronounced the word truth or something like that,
- 23:46Speaker 2: I was like, truth. But yeah, so they... Again, they
- 23:52Speaker 2: want to use the music for Fastway. Blackie Lawless says, no,
- 23:54Speaker 2: thank you. Bye-bye.
- 23:55Speaker 6: I can't blame him, really. That's not cool.
- 23:58Speaker 2: And so when they approach Gene Simmons for the movie,
- 24:00Speaker 2: they approach him to do the Sammy Kerr role. It's like, nah,
- 24:03Speaker 2: I don't really feel like doing that. But I like
- 24:04Speaker 2: this DJ character over here.
- 24:05Speaker 6: Interesting.
- 24:06Speaker 2: So they do that. And then they end up getting
- 24:08Speaker 2: solid gold dancer Tony Fields. To play Sammy Kerr, who's
- 24:13Speaker 2: not a metal guy.
- 24:13Speaker 6: He's got the look, though. Well, he had the hair. Again,
- 24:17Speaker 6: you create, but just like that persona, too. Like, you
- 24:21Speaker 6: can see him doing this very showy frontman thing.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 24:25Speaker 12: And it works.
- 24:25Speaker 6: Like, yeah, I can see him being in a metal
- 24:28Speaker 6: band at the time with that little... Song and dance
- 24:31Speaker 6: that he put together there. Sometimes literally.
- 24:33Speaker 2: But it's so funny that basically if you knew going
- 24:36Speaker 2: into this movie that originally it was written for and
- 24:38Speaker 2: going to be Blackie Lawless, you look at Sammy Kirk
- 24:40Speaker 2: and go, oh yeah, that's just a cheap knockoff of
- 24:42Speaker 2: Blackie Lawless. And it was. But I mean, again, I
- 24:46Speaker 2: love it. I listen to the soundtrack on a regular basis.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I see the movie at least once a year. But
- 24:53Speaker 2: for me, my first thought of any time a horror
- 24:57Speaker 2: movie is ending from the 80s, like, all right, you
- 24:59Speaker 2: better have a good song in it. And the gold
- 25:01Speaker 2: standard for me is always After Midnight. Because the soundtrack
- 25:04Speaker 2: was great. You have your opener of Trick or Treat,
- 25:06Speaker 2: which is a great song. And it's strange because the
- 25:09Speaker 2: whole– I think it's like ten songs in the soundtrack.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Two of the songs barely appear in the movie. And
- 25:14Speaker 2: the band had previously written them for other albums. So
- 25:17Speaker 2: like eight of the ten songs actually written were written
- 25:21Speaker 2: for the film. The one song, Tear Down the Walls,
- 25:24Speaker 2: which if you remember the movie is when Skippy's really mad,
- 25:27Speaker 2: and he's literally tearing all the movie posters down off the.
- 25:29Speaker 6: Very subtle.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Very subtle, yeah, on the nose there. And that song
- 25:33Speaker 2: is about a minute and 30 seconds, so it's literally
- 25:35Speaker 2: as long as the scene. So this was specifically written
- 25:39Speaker 2: for one scene in the movie.
- 25:41Speaker 6: We need a filler here for about a minute and
- 25:43Speaker 6: a half, so go to town, guys.
- 25:44Speaker 2: And it's literally about a minute and a half of
- 25:45Speaker 2: them just yelling, tear down the walls.
- 25:47Speaker 6: Tear down your posters, Skippy!
- 25:49Speaker 2: Yeah, but yeah, I would love to talk to Mark
- 25:52Speaker 2: Price about this movie. I really would. But I was
- 25:56Speaker 2: always amused, too, that basically years later going, like, oh,
- 25:59Speaker 2: this movie was directed by Charles Martin Smith. Now, if
- 26:02Speaker 2: you don't know that name, if you're familiar with The Untouchables, yes,
- 26:05Speaker 2: he's the little accountant dude that gets killed in The Elevator.
- 26:09Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:11Speaker 6: There's a lot of weirdness that comes together in that movie.
- 26:14Speaker 2: But this was his directorial debut. It's also, it was
- 26:17Speaker 2: to me, I think, part of what was weird about
- 26:19Speaker 2: it was... You're naming it Trick or Treat, and it's
- 26:23Speaker 2: not really a Halloween. I mean, it does take place
- 26:26Speaker 2: on Halloween, but the Halloween part is so minimal compared
- 26:30Speaker 2: to the metal stuff. Whereas you get to Trick or Treat,
- 26:34Speaker 2: who had to adjust their name, and it's 100% a
- 26:36Speaker 2: Halloween movie. And there is actually Trick or Treating in
- 26:40Speaker 2: the film.
- 26:40Speaker 6: Yeah, it's about Halloween. This one just, it happens to
- 26:43Speaker 6: take place on Halloween. That's a good time to play
- 26:46Speaker 6: our song, blah, blah, whatever, but it's not a... halloween
- 26:49Speaker 6: movie as much as a look at our cool metal
- 26:51Speaker 6: movie and like so yeah i always thought that was
- 26:54Speaker 6: weird that they went with that direction for the name
- 26:56Speaker 6: and so much of the advertising and marketing when it's
- 26:59Speaker 6: like that's not really the kind of movie it is
- 27:01Speaker 6: surprising yeah.
- 27:02Speaker 2: But yeah i see it but it is a movie
- 27:05Speaker 2: i change yes i know.
- 27:06Speaker 6: It's not good I enjoyed it when we went back
- 27:10Speaker 6: and watched it for the show. It's pretty fun.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it is fun, but it is nowhere near a classic.
- 27:15Speaker 2: But you know what? I love the hell out of it,
- 27:17Speaker 2: and I hope you do, too.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Better run, it's a wrecking fire Nowhere to hide, I'm
- 27:52Speaker 3: gonna hunt you for the night, yeah You got it,
- 27:57Speaker 3: I want it Pretty soon it's gonna change your skin
- 28:01Speaker 3: now So keep knockin',.
- 28:03Speaker 12: Keep rockin' I'm gonna.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Get you, get you after midnight, shock you, shock you
- 28:16Speaker 3: till the sparks fly. I'll get you, get you after midnight,
- 28:22Speaker 3: shock you, shock.
- 28:26Speaker 12: You till the sparks fly. Trouble, like you've never had before.
- 28:30Speaker 3: Guns won't free her, gonna justify her score. You got it.
- 28:42Speaker 12: I want it.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Pretty soon it's gonna change you now. So keep knocking.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Keep rocking. I got the, I got the, here's the cream.
- 28:54Speaker 3: I'm gonna get you. Get you after midnight. Shock you.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Shock you till the sparks fly.
- 29:03Speaker 9: Get you.
- 29:04Speaker 12: Get you after midnight.
- 29:07Speaker 9: Shock you.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Shocking till the sparks fly.
- 29:18Speaker 12: Sparks fly.
- 29:19Speaker 3: I keep knocking. I keep rocking. I got to, I
- 29:26Speaker 3: got to hear you scream. I'm going to get you.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Keep knocking, keep rocking I got the, I got the,
- 29:40Speaker 3: hear you scream I'm gonna get you That's right now I'm.
- 29:45Speaker 12: Gonna get you.
- 29:58Speaker 3: I'll see you next time.
- 30:51Speaker 2: My next, this is the group here, my first group
- 30:54Speaker 2: I want to bring up. Nightmare on Elm Street kind
- 30:57Speaker 2: of took the ball with the whole let's get a
- 31:01Speaker 2: rock song to end our movies and ran with it
- 31:04Speaker 2: for like four films straight.
- 31:07Speaker 6: And just made a whole soundtrack. I think they were
- 31:09Speaker 6: kind of on the forefront of that let's put together
- 31:12Speaker 6: a soundtrack to help counter you know promote this thing
- 31:17Speaker 6: like they had an entire like definitely by the time
- 31:19Speaker 6: you get to three like one and two we're busy
- 31:22Speaker 6: being you know we're trying to push ourselves out there
- 31:24Speaker 6: as a new horror guy this is our new slasher
- 31:27Speaker 6: and that did a good job with that but by
- 31:28Speaker 6: the time I got three they're like alright we've got
- 31:30Speaker 6: that covered people love Freddy Krueger we know that we
- 31:32Speaker 6: can we can just ride it out now on that
- 31:35Speaker 6: end of it but they wanted that extra you know
- 31:38Speaker 6: avenue of like how else can we market it how
- 31:40Speaker 6: else can we like get Other, especially, I mean, that's
- 31:44Speaker 6: the era of MTV. So it's like if you can
- 31:46Speaker 6: shove a music video on there that does kind of
- 31:49Speaker 6: a miniature version of your movie, there's a ton of
- 31:52Speaker 6: kids that just went, well, now I know what I'm
- 31:54Speaker 6: doing this weekend.
- 31:54Speaker 2: I'm going to go see Dream Warriors.
- 31:56Speaker 6: And like, that's a perfect example.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Like it's.
- 32:00Speaker 6: Part of the movie and yet they work in the
- 32:02Speaker 6: band and it becomes its own other thing like it's
- 32:06Speaker 6: not exactly the scene from the movie it's not just
- 32:09Speaker 6: a music video with the band it's a mesh of
- 32:11Speaker 6: the two that makes you go well now i need
- 32:13Speaker 6: to watch that movie and like it was a great marketing.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Scheme or if you know who the band is already
- 32:18Speaker 2: and you're a fan of the band that's going to
- 32:20Speaker 2: bring you to the table even further so for nightmare
- 32:23Speaker 2: on elm street part three dream warriors we got docking
- 32:27Speaker 2: which at the time they were very much on the
- 32:30Speaker 2: forefront of pop culture and the pop charts.
- 33:07Speaker 12: I like.
- 33:09Speaker 4: And dread the lonely nights I'm not alone I.
- 33:13Speaker 12: Wonder if these heavy eyes could.
- 33:17Speaker 9: Face the unknown.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Together We're the Dream Warriors Don't wanna dream no more
- 33:51Speaker 3: We're the Dream Warriors And maybe tonight Maybe tonight you'll
- 34:01Speaker 3: be gone I hear the voices calling out Calling.
- 34:15Speaker 12: My name It's the same.
- 34:17Speaker 3: Desire To feel the fire That's coming your way I'm
- 34:24Speaker 3: standing in the night alone Forever Together Maybe tonight you'll
- 34:51Speaker 3: be gone with a dream warrior.
- 35:51Speaker 9: Break the spell.
- 35:52Speaker 12: Evolution.
- 35:53Speaker 9: Found together.
- 35:54Speaker 3: Waiting for you. Dream warriors. Don't want to dream.
- 36:06Speaker 9: No more.
- 36:06Speaker 12: We're gonna dream.
- 36:20Speaker 3: And maybe tonight, maybe tonight you'll become King of WarioWare.
- 37:08Speaker 6: I was already there.
- 37:09Speaker 2: Yep, I had.
- 37:11Speaker 4: I had.
- 37:11Speaker 6: Back for the attack yeah well that was after that
- 37:14Speaker 6: i had under lock and key i think i had
- 37:17Speaker 6: that for breaking the chains was that the tooth and
- 37:19Speaker 6: nail tooth and nail yeah i definitely i had most
- 37:22Speaker 6: of those on cassette ask your grandparents what that is
- 37:25Speaker 6: kids um so.
- 37:26Speaker 2: No no kids know today they they know it's retro
- 37:29Speaker 2: now yeah it's retro super cool for tapes now crazy yeah.
- 37:33Speaker 6: Yeah i have seen them selling them at like shows
- 37:36Speaker 6: and i'm like really yeah this is where we've come
- 37:39Speaker 6: yep we're back yeah so yeah i i definitely was
- 37:42Speaker 6: a a dork that was into docking so i i'm
- 37:44Speaker 6: not gonna pretend like i wasn't and i was already
- 37:47Speaker 6: into freddy i'd seen the first two and was like
- 37:50Speaker 6: this is the best thing ever these two things that
- 37:53Speaker 6: i love have come together and and dream.
- 37:55Speaker 2: Warriors i would argue is still a good song i
- 37:58Speaker 2: really like again i liked docking in that era specifically
- 38:02Speaker 2: like those couple albums they are pretty solid as that
- 38:06Speaker 2: that type of band.
- 38:07Speaker 6: Again, real metalheads will give you shit for liking them,
- 38:09Speaker 6: but I'm like.
- 38:10Speaker 2: For the type of band that they were, they were
- 38:13Speaker 2: really good. George Lynch is a hell of a guitar player,
- 38:16Speaker 2: so it's like, you put together all of their pieces
- 38:19Speaker 2: and you get a really good band. Yeah, and see,
- 38:21Speaker 2: that's the whole kind of The double-edged sword for metal
- 38:24Speaker 2: fans is that we want to shit all over Dokken,
- 38:27Speaker 2: but George Lynch, we recognize, is a hell of a
- 38:29Speaker 2: good guitarist, and we're glad he left the band.
- 38:31Speaker 6: I'm like, well, Don had a pretty damn good voice, actually. Yes,
- 38:34Speaker 6: he did.
- 38:36Speaker 2: He was kind of like... If Iron Maiden was too
- 38:38Speaker 2: scary for you, then here's Don Dokken.
- 38:40Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Because, you know, interestingly enough, Bruce Dickinson is also on
- 38:44Speaker 2: this list here. But we get to part four and
- 38:46Speaker 2: we get to Love Kills from the Dream Master. The
- 38:51Speaker 2: credit goes to Vinnie Vincent's Invasion as the band, who
- 38:54Speaker 2: Vinnie at the time was formerly a guitarist for Kiss
- 38:57Speaker 2: for a whole album. and then was fired because he's
- 39:00Speaker 2: an egomaniac.
- 39:01Speaker 6: And kind of rode that the rest of his career.
- 39:03Speaker 2: He absolutely rode that.
- 39:04Speaker 6: He will be the first to tell you. He was
- 39:06Speaker 6: in Kiss.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Yes, yes. He was there. But like a lot of
- 39:12Speaker 2: seasoned metal guys that didn't sing, they would grab up-and-coming singers,
- 39:17Speaker 2: and then those singers occasionally would go on to form
- 39:19Speaker 2: their own bands. Case in point, the singer for this
- 39:22Speaker 2: song is a very young Mark Slaughter, who... would later
- 39:26Speaker 2: on form his own band.
- 39:27Speaker 6: Seems like I've heard of that guy.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Yeah, form his own band. cleverly named Slaughter, which is really,
- 39:33Speaker 2: it was an interesting name for a pop metal band,
- 39:37Speaker 2: because they didn't sound like a slaughter.
- 39:38Speaker 6: I mean, they had the look of your normal metal band,
- 39:43Speaker 6: and Plus, he was kind of pretty.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 39:45Speaker 6: So that helped them on their videos.
- 39:46Speaker 12: Oh, yeah.
- 39:47Speaker 2: He's a good-looking dude, yeah.
- 39:47Speaker 6: But then on top of that, they, like, advertised themselves.
- 39:50Speaker 6: The albums looked like they were full-on metal. But, yeah,
- 39:53Speaker 6: you listen to them, and they're pretty poppy.
- 39:55Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Yeah. But, yeah, so they– and I love– Love Kills,
- 39:59Speaker 2: I think, is a great song. And, you know, yeah,
- 40:01Speaker 2: Vinnie Vincent's a crazy ass, but you know what? He
- 40:04Speaker 2: can play guitar.
- 40:05Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 40:19Speaker 3: So long since I've waited to live again. You've brought
- 40:28Speaker 3: my world to an end. Love takes its victim and
- 40:40Speaker 3: leaves its remains.
- 40:46Speaker 6: My broken heart is.
- 40:48Speaker 12: Done in vain.
- 40:49Speaker 3: Tell me why have we forsaken the dreams we had?
- 40:58Speaker 3: Can I love you tomorrow?
- 41:08Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:11Speaker 9: Whoa, love kills.
- 41:12Speaker 3: The fire's gone, dying in, but still remains.
- 41:20Speaker 12: Whoa, love kills.
- 41:22Speaker 9: And now you're.
- 41:24Speaker 3: Gone, could I never be the same?
- 41:50Speaker 15: Without your love, life seems so dead and so unreal
- 41:57Speaker 15: And now there's nothing left.
- 42:02Speaker 3: To feel Someday.
- 42:08Speaker 12: We'll meet again.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Oh girl, that much I know And now this kid
- 42:19Speaker 3: will say hello.
- 42:29Speaker 12: My lonely, lonely soul.
- 42:32Speaker 3: For sorrow's trepid haze Please let me go Oh, you're
- 42:40Speaker 3: killed The fire's gone tight Yeah, but you remain Oh,
- 42:48Speaker 3: you're killed And now you're.
- 42:53Speaker 12: Gone Girl, I'd never be the same.
- 43:10Speaker 9: Thank you.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Whoa, Lock Hills, the fire's gone, dying embers will remain. Whoa,
- 43:40Speaker 3: Lock Hills, and now you've gone, girl, I'll never be
- 43:45Speaker 3: the same. Lock Hills, and love is just a dying
- 43:54Speaker 3: ember in the rain.
- 43:58Speaker 12: Whoa, Lock Hills.
- 44:28Speaker 6: Somewhere I have that. And again, I'm not a vinyl person.
- 44:32Speaker 6: I've said that many a time on these soundtrack episodes. I, I,
- 44:35Speaker 6: Now I like it for the weird stuff you can find.
- 44:38Speaker 6: But at the time, it was like so going out
- 44:42Speaker 6: of style. Again, cassettes were cool, man. Vinyl, that's what
- 44:45Speaker 6: your parents listened to.
- 44:46Speaker 12: Lame.
- 44:47Speaker 6: So occasionally you could pick stuff up super cheap. And
- 44:50Speaker 6: I remember I got a cutout version of Nightmare on
- 44:53Speaker 6: Elm Street 4's soundtrack that I had. And again, I
- 44:57Speaker 6: had my one piece system, if you will, that had
- 45:01Speaker 6: a record player on the top and then dual cassette.
- 45:04Speaker 6: and a stereo, and it was like the coolest thing ever.
- 45:08Speaker 6: So I have listened to that Vinnie Vincent song on
- 45:13Speaker 6: vinyl a long damn time ago on that stereo system
- 45:17Speaker 6: that I still have, by the way. The volume's jacked up,
- 45:20Speaker 6: but I hooked it back up recently and was like,
- 45:22Speaker 6: I can listen to stuff on this. Not cassettes, because
- 45:24Speaker 6: every cassette you play from that era will be eaten immediately.
- 45:27Speaker 6: But I was like, I did have an input. I
- 45:30Speaker 6: jammed my CDs in when I was moving into the
- 45:33Speaker 6: Next Generation, thank you very much. So, yeah, I still
- 45:38Speaker 6: listen to that stereo. And I have not played that
- 45:41Speaker 6: vinyl in quite a while. And at this point, I
- 45:43Speaker 6: think it's lost. It's somewhere in a box with my LaserDisc.
- 45:45Speaker 6: It's exactly where it is. This has been Grandpa Talk.
- 45:50Speaker 6: Thanks for tuning in.
- 45:51Speaker 2: Yeah, this is old media meltdown here. But as I said,
- 45:57Speaker 2: like I said, we had like four movies in a
- 45:59Speaker 2: row where they did... Well, actually, not really in a row.
- 46:02Speaker 2: I can't remember what they ended... uh freddie's dead with
- 46:05Speaker 2: but uh for part five this is an inspired choice
- 46:10Speaker 2: even though it was strangely credited to only bruce dickinson
- 46:13Speaker 2: even though this is technically an iron maiden song but
- 46:16Speaker 2: bring your daughter to the slaughter for nightmare part five
- 46:19Speaker 2: the dream child.
- 46:20Speaker 6: Speaking of slaughter but not mark.
- 46:38Speaker 16: Honey, it's getting close to midnight And all the myths
- 46:43Speaker 16: are still in town True love and lipstick on your
- 46:46Speaker 16: linen Bite the pillow, make no sound And there's some
- 46:53Speaker 16: living to be done.
- 46:55Speaker 6: Before your life.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Becomes your tomb You'd better.
- 46:59Speaker 16: Know that I'm the one Unchain your back door.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Bring your daughter Bring your daughter To the slaughter Let
- 47:17Speaker 3: her go Let her go Let her go Bring your
- 47:21Speaker 3: daughter Bring.
- 47:23Speaker 12: Your daughter.
- 47:48Speaker 6: And it's getting close to daybreak.
- 47:52Speaker 12: The sun is creeping in the sky.
- 47:55Speaker 16: No pain remedies for heartache. Just empty words and humble pie.
- 48:03Speaker 16: So get down on your knees, honey.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Assume an attitude.
- 48:07Speaker 12: You just pray that I'll be waiting.
- 48:10Speaker 16: Cause you know, you know what?
- 48:18Speaker 3: Bring your daughter to the store.
- 48:24Speaker 12: Let her go. Let her go. Let her go. Bring
- 48:31Speaker 12: your daughter. So pick up your foolish pride. No going back.
- 48:50Speaker 12: Nowhere to wait.
- 48:52Speaker 9: No place to hide.
- 49:31Speaker 14: Bring your daughter, bring your.
- 49:33Speaker 12: Daughter to the slaughter.
- 49:38Speaker 6: Bring your daughter, fetch your daughter.
- 49:41Speaker 12: Bring your daughter, fetch your daughter. Bring your daughter, fetch
- 49:47Speaker 12: your daughter.
- 50:30Speaker 3: Let her go, let her go Bring your daughter, bring
- 50:38Speaker 3: your daughter.
- 50:41Speaker 12: To the sun Let her go, let her go, let
- 50:46Speaker 12: her go Bring your daughter, bring your daughter to the sun.
- 51:20Speaker 2: But yeah, I love this song too, being a Maiden fan.
- 51:23Speaker 2: But yeah, later on, I think for New Nightmare, Goo
- 51:27Speaker 2: Goo Dolls had a song, I'm Awake Now. But I
- 51:29Speaker 2: can't remember the song. Listeners have to clue us in
- 51:33Speaker 2: on this one. They have to look up what the
- 51:35Speaker 2: song was for Freddy's Dead. I know it was somebody,
- 51:37Speaker 2: but oddly enough, they didn't pick Alice Cooper, even though
- 51:41Speaker 2: he was in Freddy's Dead, playing Freddy's Dad. Which leads
- 51:46Speaker 2: me to my next group here. Because Alice himself had
- 51:50Speaker 2: himself a trio of not only film appearances in a
- 51:57Speaker 2: very short period of time, but also soundtrack appearances to
- 52:01Speaker 2: horror movies.
- 52:01Speaker 6: This is the perfect example of my intro earlier of
- 52:06Speaker 6: somebody who is not just a dork themselves. Which, Alice,
- 52:10Speaker 6: I love the man. but he's super dorky.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's why I love him.
- 52:13Speaker 6: And yeah, as time went on, I was like, I
- 52:15Speaker 6: liked him as the cool, you know, gothy guy that
- 52:18Speaker 6: he was, but the reason I loved him even at
- 52:20Speaker 6: the time was like, I remember watching him on The
- 52:22Speaker 6: Muppet Show and I'm like, Alice, you're a dork and
- 52:26Speaker 6: I love you for it. So as you got further in,
- 52:29Speaker 6: of course he's the guy that wants to cram himself
- 52:31Speaker 6: into horror movies. He loves horror movies. I want to
- 52:34Speaker 6: be myself in a horror movie if I can. And
- 52:36Speaker 6: why we didn't get like a whole series of Alice,
- 52:39Speaker 6: you know, like Elvira. We need like, Alice, you know,
- 52:42Speaker 6: old-timey Hammer movie, and then Alice, the fish-out-of-water movie.
- 52:45Speaker 2: Well, if you go on his Facebook, he's got these
- 52:47Speaker 2: little videos he does from time to time. I can't
- 52:50Speaker 2: remember the way they call them, like Alice's Scary Stories
- 52:52Speaker 2: or something like that. And there are these little animated things,
- 52:55Speaker 2: and it's him telling a spooky story, but it's got
- 52:58Speaker 2: nice music to it, the animation looks cool, so it
- 53:01Speaker 2: totally works. I'm like, I would love a whole show
- 53:03Speaker 2: of these. But yeah, so if you go on his
- 53:05Speaker 2: social media, he posts those from time to time. Like Alice's,
- 53:08Speaker 2: I can't remember what the official name for it is,
- 53:10Speaker 2: but yeah, but.
- 53:11Speaker 6: It's something I need to look for.
- 53:13Speaker 2: But yeah, I got the pleasure of meeting the man
- 53:15Speaker 2: a few years for the pandemic at a convention, and
- 53:19Speaker 2: it was a highlight of my life.
- 53:20Speaker 6: I think I was at that one.
- 53:21Speaker 2: Yes, you were.
- 53:22Speaker 6: I saw him. I stood next to the table, and
- 53:24Speaker 6: I was like, I'm pretty close to Alice Cooper. Actually,
- 53:26Speaker 6: he did walk past while we were loitering around somewhere
- 53:30Speaker 6: in the aisle by the Rocky Horror People. He just
- 53:33Speaker 6: was like, hey, excuse me, and walked right past. I
- 53:35Speaker 6: was like, that's Alice Cooper.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I paid for signing in a little conversation with him,
- 53:41Speaker 2: but he was very talkative. I brought up the Muppets
- 53:45Speaker 2: thing because I told him, like, yeah, I loved your
- 53:47Speaker 2: music as a little kid, but I'd never actually seen
- 53:51Speaker 2: you before until the Muppets, and then you scared the
- 53:53Speaker 2: shit out of me, and I couldn't watch the episode
- 53:56Speaker 2: for years. But then when you pop up for this
- 53:59Speaker 2: particular movie, Friday the 13th, Part 6, Jason Lives... Our
- 54:05Speaker 2: man is back. That's right. The man behind the mask.
- 54:23Speaker 17: You're with your baby And you're parked alone On a
- 54:28Speaker 17: summer night You're deep in love But you're deeper.
- 54:33Speaker 1: In the woods You think you're doing alright.
- 54:38Speaker 8: Did you hear that voice?
- 54:42Speaker 14: Did you see that face?
- 54:44Speaker 12: Or was it just a dream?
- 54:46Speaker 3: This can't be real That only happens, babe On the
- 54:52Speaker 3: movie screen.
- 54:56Speaker 9: He's back.
- 54:58Speaker 3: He's the man behind the mask.
- 55:01Speaker 12: And he's out of control. He's back.
- 55:06Speaker 3: The man behind the mask.
- 55:11Speaker 9: And he crawled out of his mind.
- 55:17Speaker 8: You're swimming with your girl Out on Lover's Lake And
- 55:22Speaker 8: the wind blows cold It chills your bones But you're
- 55:25Speaker 8: still on the make.
- 55:26Speaker 9: That's a.
- 55:29Speaker 8: Bad mistake Ah, but the moon was full And you
- 55:36Speaker 8: had a chance To be all alone But you're.
- 55:41Speaker 1: Not alone This is your last dance.
- 55:45Speaker 12: And your last romance. Yeah, cause he's back.
- 55:52Speaker 3: He's the man behind the mask.
- 55:55Speaker 12: And he's out of control.
- 55:58Speaker 9: He's back.
- 56:00Speaker 3: The man behind the mask. Oh, if you see him,
- 56:23Speaker 3: come and get away if you can Just keep.
- 56:31Speaker 12: On running, run as.
- 56:33Speaker 3: Fast as you can He's a dangerous, dangerous man And
- 56:39Speaker 3: he's out tonight, and he's watching you And he knows
- 56:46Speaker 3: your house Don't turn out the lights Yeah, cause he's
- 56:58Speaker 3: back He's the man behind the mask And he's out
- 57:03Speaker 3: of control He's back He's the man behind the mask
- 57:09Speaker 3: And he's after your soul He's back He's the man
- 57:15Speaker 3: behind the mask And he's out of control He's back
- 57:21Speaker 3: The man behind the mask And.
- 57:25Speaker 12: He's after your soul.
- 57:28Speaker 9: He's back.
- 57:44Speaker 6: I threw this out and i will just give the
- 57:47Speaker 6: because if you didn't get to it i was gonna
- 57:49Speaker 6: have to throw it in because i i rarely do
- 57:52Speaker 6: i get a chance to tie in with other cast
- 57:54Speaker 6: members but i specifically last time sat down with with
- 57:58Speaker 6: the uh the rest of the horror gang i was
- 58:00Speaker 6: like okay we're doing soundtrack stuff so if you want
- 58:02Speaker 6: to and uh Nobody really had anything that they were
- 58:06Speaker 6: dying to do. I was like, we can record something
- 58:08Speaker 6: if you want. And they were like, no. And then
- 58:10Speaker 6: Philip was like, the only one I can think of
- 58:12Speaker 6: is the man behind the mask. So that was also
- 58:15Speaker 6: going to be Philip's pick.
- 58:16Speaker 12: Nice.
- 58:17Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 58:17Speaker 6: Credit where credit is due. Thank you, Philip, for also
- 58:20Speaker 6: throwing that in there. But I figured you were probably
- 58:22Speaker 6: going to get to it. So that's why I was like,
- 58:24Speaker 6: I'm sure we'll be playing that.
- 58:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:26Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 58:26Speaker 2: I mean, this is a song, again, I champion this.
- 58:29Speaker 2: I champion it more than I do the movie.
- 58:31Speaker 6: Well, that's the thing. I was never a huge Jason fan.
- 58:34Speaker 11: Right.
- 58:34Speaker 6: But I, again, this came out as a music video
- 58:37Speaker 6: before I even saw the movie. And I was like,
- 58:39Speaker 6: this song's pretty awesome, actually.
- 58:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 58:42Speaker 6: And that was a weird era for Alice because he
- 58:44Speaker 6: was getting way more popularized. And like, I think that
- 58:49Speaker 6: whole album, even you get something huge like Poison, but
- 58:51Speaker 6: I'm like, that's a way more. radio-friendly song than his
- 58:55Speaker 6: 70s stuff. It's a different era of Alice Cooper.
- 58:59Speaker 2: Poison came a few years later after Man Behind the Mask. Actually,
- 59:04Speaker 2: if we were doing this chronologically, I would have talked
- 59:06Speaker 2: about Monster Dog first.
- 59:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 59:08Speaker 2: Because that was kind of a poignant film in his
- 59:11Speaker 2: career because in 83, his label had dropped him, his
- 59:16Speaker 2: career was at an all-time low, his alcoholism has gotten worse,
- 59:20Speaker 2: and so he finally decided to get himself sober. And
- 59:22Speaker 2: so basically, he was out for almost a whole year
- 59:25Speaker 2: just away from music, away from everything, and... Once he
- 59:29Speaker 2: was sober and out of rehab, he got approached by
- 59:32Speaker 2: this film company. He's like, hey, you want to do
- 59:34Speaker 2: this shitty werewolf movie? And we're going to do this
- 59:38Speaker 2: in Spain. And no one's going to see this outside
- 59:40Speaker 2: the Philippines. I was like, no one's going to see
- 59:43Speaker 2: this thing. So he's like, you know what? That sounds
- 59:45Speaker 2: like fun. And he was totally on. He knew this
- 59:48Speaker 2: was going into it. It's going to be a crappy
- 59:49Speaker 2: horror movie, not a lot of budget, whatever else. But
- 59:51Speaker 2: he's like, you know what? I would love to do
- 59:53Speaker 2: a crappy horror movie and just get back to work.
- 59:56Speaker 2: You know, work sober again and just see what that's
- 59:58Speaker 2: all like. And, you know, he had a... Some of
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: the other actors didn't have as good of a time
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: on the movie as he did. But everybody always said
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: that their experience working with Alice was very positive and pleasant.
- 1:00:11Speaker 6: Yeah. Even the director.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Like, the director apparently was this crazed dude. Like, he
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: chased off some crewman with a shotgun because he screwed
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: up a shot at one point. So everybody was afraid
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: of the director, but everybody loved Alice.
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: Sounds like a great film set to work.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: But he had done Monster Dog in 84, but the
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: movie never actually saw the light of day until two
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: years later. When initially it was released overseas and then
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: it finally made its way to the U.S. on VHS.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: But it went through a bunch of different names. I
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: think in Italy it was named like, gosh. It has
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: nothing to do with dogs or monsters or. It's like,
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: you know, annihilation or slaughter or something along those lines.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: You know, just one word thing. But, yeah, I mean,
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: it is a crappy werewolf movie, but it's got a
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: couple of fun twists. But, yeah, Alice plays a rock
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: star in the movie. The two songs he recorded for
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: the film were literally like he was given, I think,
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: three days. That's when the best stuff comes together. And
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: he didn't have his band with him because they broke up.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: So it was literally like these were demos he recorded
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: in the hotel and they made it to the final film.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: The demos made it to the final film.
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: Well, I'm assuming they're a relatively independent production.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: You just roll with that. And the funny thing was
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: that the majority of the budget for the production was
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: to hire Alice as the actor to do both the songs.
- 1:01:43Speaker 6: I can see that.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: But of the two songs he did for the film,
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: my opinion, the best one and the one that still
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: kind of sticks around for Alice fans is Identity Crisis,
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: which opens and closes the film. Because the movie opens with, like,
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: you get, like, a couple, like, you know, title screens
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: real quick with some spooky music. And then all of
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: a sudden the music kicks in for Identity Crisis. And,
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: of course, it's a very strange period for Alice because
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: it barely sounds like Alice singing. Yeah. Because it's kind
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: of a different style. It almost kind of sounds like
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: it's like a Lou Reed, David Bowie kind of experimental
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: kind of song.
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: Which I can see him coming from that place, but yeah,
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: later it's weird to come back to that sound.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's a very interesting sound to it.
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: ¶ ¶ ¶ ¶ ¶ ¶ ¶.

- 1:05:01Speaker 3: Face, cause mine's been erased. Identity crisis is.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: You know, sometimes he's James Bond, sometimes he's Billy the Kid,
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: sometimes he feels like Sherlock Holmes, you know, that sort
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: of thing like that. But the video is very much
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: like a literal on-the-nose, here are the lyrics I'm singing
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: and here are these... I've.
- 1:05:20Speaker 6: Seen the video, I do know the song.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and literally that video is the beginning of the movie.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: It is also the end of the movie interspersed with
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: clips of the movie you just saw.
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: In case you dozed off or something. Like, oh, here's
- 1:05:35Speaker 6: this thing you probably saw a few minutes ago, but
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: maybe not.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: Yeah, if you were not paying attention for the last
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: 90 some odd minutes, here's a little recap for you.
- 1:05:44Speaker 6: It's always an odd choice when they go for that one.
- 1:05:46Speaker 13: It is.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: But, you know, it's like, yeah, we got a couple
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: of good songs and he's not going to officially release these. So,
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: you know, we're going to make the best we can. So, uh,
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: but yeah, like I said, but yeah, I love it.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: Like the whole purpose, like he's going home, uh, back
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: to the middle of nowhere where he grew up in
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: or something like that. Uh, and oh, they're going to
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: try to, you know, do some more recording there, maybe
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: do a new video or something like that. But what
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: they don't know is that there is a legacy of
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: werewolves in, uh, uh, Vincent's family. And, uh, Vincent maybe is, uh,
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: destined to become the next king of the werewolves and
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: sort of thing like that. So it, Like I said,
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: not the greatest movie, but it's kind of fun. It
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: has some charm to it. Another ironic thing is that
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: because it's a foreign film, everybody's voice is overdubbed in
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: the movie. And I do mean everybody.
- 1:06:32Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: You went and hired a superstar musician to be your
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: lead actor in the movie. He speaks perfectly good English.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: His performance was apparently just fine in the film, but
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: you still decide to overdub him with a guy that
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: kind of sounds like Alice if he also came from, like, Boston.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: That's a weird move.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: And Alice didn't come from Boston, but.
- 1:06:57Speaker 6: I've always thought it was funny that, and I noticed
- 1:06:59Speaker 6: it at the time in that era. And then now
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: I still looking back at old stuff from that era,
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: he became almost like the poster child for like music today.
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: And these damn kids, like, I remember the one at
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: the time watching as a kid, watching reruns of, I'm
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: pretty sure it was one day at a time. And
- 1:07:19Speaker 6: they were talking about like the new cool music that
- 1:07:22Speaker 6: they were into and And Julia or somebody's like, you know,
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: like Alice Cooper. And the joke is, well, who's she?
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: I'm old.
- 1:07:30Speaker 6: I don't get it. That's the go-to for that era.
- 1:07:34Speaker 6: And I just this past week, it's funny that now
- 1:07:36Speaker 6: he comes up, was watching. And again, this says a
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: lot about my life. Back to grandpa talk. I was
- 1:07:42Speaker 6: watching Barnaby Jones. And I'm pretty sure that was the
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: episode that had the weird music crossover. And like the
- 1:07:49Speaker 6: guy that worked in the industry was just like, ah,
- 1:07:52Speaker 6: music today. alice cooper's and like that was just the
- 1:07:56Speaker 6: what is bringing down the music industry was people like
- 1:08:00Speaker 6: alice cooper can you imagine.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: And of course uh let's not forget uh the episode
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: of highway to heaven and quantum leap which were kiss
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: themed episodes like the there was the highway to heaven
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: was a rock star that sort of looked like kiss
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: but he was a solo act and you know he
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: uh You know, kind of did, you know, he wanted
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: to go straight. And then Scott Bakula's character in Quantum Leap,
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: you know, jumps into a rock star.
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: I kind of remember that one, yeah.
- 1:08:29Speaker 12: Oh, oh, oh.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: And let's also not forget Sonny Bono on the love boat.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: Not doing Kiss, but doing a King Diamond Merciful Fate
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: sort of gig.
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: I've seen that one recently, like in the last year
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: or so. And I'd never seen it growing up. And
- 1:08:43Speaker 6: I was like, what the hell is this? And again,
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: of all stunt casting... To go that direction with anyone, sure, maybe.
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: Sunny bone.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: But see, but see. It works in its own weird way.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: But what he really wanted to do though. when he
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: fell in love with the girl on the boat, it's like, oh,
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: I really want to do jazz and, you know, standards.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: So he takes the makeup off of the gimmick and
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: puts on a monkey suit.
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: And becomes Sonny Bono.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: And becomes Sonny Bono. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Glorious.
- 1:09:14Speaker 6: Old timey TV shows. This is what we're talking about.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: God bless them.
- 1:09:17Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: But to round out my Alice Cooper trilogy, I would
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: be remiss if I, A, did not include this song entirely,
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: and B, did not include a John Carpenter film on
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: this list because he's the greatest.
- 1:09:30Speaker 6: Yeah, can't argue with that.
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: Gotta go with Prince of Darkness.
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: Featuring Alice Cooper.
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: Yep, as the lead bum, or the lead grizzly... zombie
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: bum or something like that.
- 1:09:42Speaker 6: I've told it on the show before. Do you want
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: me to tell the Alice Cooper? My favorite. Maybe more
- 1:09:48Speaker 6: than the Muppets show.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: Please.
- 1:09:49Speaker 6: My favorite Alice Cooper story. Again, I'm a young movie dork.
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: And I watch Entertainment Tonight all the time. It really
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: wasn't the cheesy thing it became later. In the early days,
- 1:10:01Speaker 6: it really was. Like, here we are on the set
- 1:10:03Speaker 6: of this movie. Yeah, it was a good show. It
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: was kind of cool when I was watching it as
- 1:10:07Speaker 6: a kid. In the Mary Hart days and John Tashman. Yeah,
- 1:10:09Speaker 6: and John Tashman. All the way up through that. And
- 1:10:11Speaker 6: once later, they changed and it got trying to be
- 1:10:13Speaker 6: more flashy and compete with Access Hollywood or whatever the
- 1:10:16Speaker 6: hell else came out. But in the early days, it
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: was a pretty cool show if you liked movies and
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: TV and stuff like that. And that's why I was
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: watching it. And so one day, it was when Prince
- 1:10:26Speaker 6: of Darkness was coming out, and they're like, oh, and
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: here's the new movie, and they show scenes of it
- 1:10:32Speaker 6: as they're talking over it. I don't even think they
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: show a clip, maybe, but they're showing people, and they
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: show that lead bum guy, and they're like, I'm starring this, this,
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: and this, and as that's up there, they say this
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: actor's name. Not Alice Cooper. So the next night, they're
- 1:10:47Speaker 6: back on, and they're like, oh, and we need to
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: make an apology and a correction that we misidentified this guy.
- 1:10:54Speaker 6: character right here is actually alice cooper um we were
- 1:10:57Speaker 6: told of our error by alice cooper which to me
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: in that one moment i was like oh my god
- 1:11:05Speaker 6: alice cooper was sitting home watching entertainment tonight like the
- 1:11:08Speaker 6: dork that he is he and i were both sitting
- 1:11:11Speaker 6: at home watching entertainment tonight together because we're both movie
- 1:11:14Speaker 6: dorks that That moment, he was one of my favorite
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: people of all time.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: That is glorious.
- 1:11:21Speaker 6: Alice Cooper watching it and then getting on the phone going, no, no, no, guys.
- 1:11:25Speaker 12: It's me.
- 1:11:26Speaker 6: It's Alice. I'm the bomb. Can you imagine that phone
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: call that came in? They're like, this guy says he's
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: Alice Cooper. Do you guys want to take this call?
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: He says we need to do a retraction? He said
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: we screwed.
- 1:11:38Speaker 6: Something up on yesterday's episode. Can you imagine?
- 1:11:41Speaker 12: Oh, my God.
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: So I don't care how many times I tell it,
- 1:11:44Speaker 6: that's the funniest damn story ever.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: That is amazing.
- 1:11:49Speaker 6: Yes. That's maybe the best Dallas Cooper we'll ever get
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: right there.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: That is glorious.
- 1:11:56Speaker 18: Wow.
- 1:12:17Speaker 12: He fills the.
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: Light, he fills the truth, he fills.
- 1:12:29Speaker 12: What's gonna.
- 1:12:33Speaker 9: Be.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: He spits on life, he spits on God, he spits again.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Darkness Studies the world with hungry eyes Prince of Darkness
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: Ready to baptize.
- 1:13:02Speaker 9: You in lies Heart of.
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: Evil Soul of blackness Prince of Darkness.
- 1:13:17Speaker 13: The sovereign lamb was just a boy with a baby's mind.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: He swore damnation on God's creation.
- 1:13:29Speaker 9: He lives for hate. He lives for tears.
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: He lives up to his name.
- 1:13:36Speaker 12: He knew the life.
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: He knew the one who was crucified in.
- 1:13:50Speaker 12: We'll be right back.
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: Guitar solo He feels the light He feels the truth He.
- 1:15:30Speaker 9: Feels what's gonna be He.
- 1:15:32Speaker 19: Spits on life He spits on God He spits on.
- 1:15:38Speaker 12: Death for you and me.
- 1:15:51Speaker 13: Prince of Darkness Studies the world with hungry eyes Prince
- 1:15:58Speaker 13: of Darkness Ready to.
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: Baptize you in lies Prince of Darkness Studies the world
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: with hungry eyes.
- 1:16:12Speaker 9: Prince of Darkness.
- 1:16:15Speaker 10: Ready to baptize you in life So talk next.
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: He smells the breath.
- 1:16:45Speaker 12: Of sweet human syndrome.
- 1:16:49Speaker 19: And deeply breathes it in Prince of Darkness Hi, I'm
- 1:17:03Speaker 19: Patricia Quinn and you're luckily listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:17:08Speaker 20: Michael Rainey was ill The day the earth stood still
- 1:17:14Speaker 20: But he told us where we'd stand.
- 1:17:19Speaker 15: And Flash Gordon was there in silver underwear.
- 1:17:25Speaker 7: Claude Rains was the invisible man.
- 1:17:30Speaker 8: Then something went wrong for Fay Wray and King Kong.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: Well, that was my Alice Cooper trilogy there, but I
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: don't take over everything here because I've got a few more, but...
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: The one other I have to include as probably this
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: is not a song, or these songs, actually, it's kind
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: of almost like a one-two punch. But these songs weren't
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: written for Devil's Rejects. But it is probably the greatest
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: use of Freebird I've ever seen in media, period.
- 1:18:03Speaker 6: Of course, Forrest Gump aside.
- 1:18:06Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: It's because, of course, like, you know... We're just going
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: to do, I'm just going to move right past that.
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: I'm just going to move right past that. Fucking Forrest Gump.
- 1:18:16Speaker 6: Anyway.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: We got the Firefly family. They're on the run from
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: the cops. They're basically running headlong into a police, you know,
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: barricade where all the cops in that area are located.
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: Ready to gun down these vicious criminals there. And they know...
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: Speaking of Butch and Sundance, they know what's about to
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: go down. They know what the news is. And like,
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: all right, we're going out in a blaze of glory.
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: And then the first couple bars start coming in like
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: really rob you vicious.
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: Bastard rob zombie knowing that especially at that time we
- 1:18:57Speaker 6: pretty much only knew him as a rock star i
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: mean he was he was white zombie and became rob
- 1:19:03Speaker 6: zombie and that was his thing and so of all
- 1:19:06Speaker 6: things even at the time i remember going this is
- 1:19:09Speaker 6: what you're into, Rob? I mean, now I know he's
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: a big super dork, but at the time, I was like,
- 1:19:14Speaker 6: he was trying to come off way heavier and edgier
- 1:19:17Speaker 6: in those early white zombie days. So, like, by the
- 1:19:20Speaker 6: time we get to this movie, you're like, Leonard Skinner, really?
- 1:19:25Speaker 12: But, I mean.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: I didn't necessarily have that, really. I was very intrigued
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: and delighted at the use of this. This is a
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: proper fucking use of this song. I absolutely loved how
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: it was used in there. Of course, they get completely
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: gunned down in the hail of glory. Spoiler alert.
- 1:19:46Speaker 6: In case you didn't get around to Devil's Rejects.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's 2005. Get with the program. Frankly, it's Rob
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: Zombie's best film. I'm going out on that limb there.
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: Devil's Rejects is Rob Zombie's best film.
- 1:19:59Speaker 6: I have issues with most of his films, so I'm
- 1:20:02Speaker 6: not even going to argue any of it.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: I would still say this. Of all those films with
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: all those issues, especially his two Halloween films, good God,
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: don't get me started on those. But, nonetheless, Devil's Rejects
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: is his finest work. Yeah, but just, of course, like,
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: you know, the big guitar solo happened, and everybody's getting blasted.
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: I mean, that's just, yeah, that's just a great usage.
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: And then after the whole, the seas have calmed, the
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: smoke has cleared, we know the Firefly family is dead
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: as disco. Then we get the gentle notes of Terry
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: Reed's Seed of Memory coming in. And we get this
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: wonderful helicopter shot going down the highway wherever they were shooting.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: I'm not sure where their location was. It's a great song.
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: I love Terry Reed. Being a Led Zeppelin fan, that
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: was the guy who almost was Robert Plant. Like Jimmy
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: Page wanted to hire Terry Reed instead of Robert Plant.
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: It probably would have been a... I think it would
- 1:21:00Speaker 6: have at least been a more reeled in version. That's
- 1:21:03Speaker 6: what I realized as a grown-up listening to it. I mean,
- 1:21:06Speaker 6: Robert Plant is so into himself as the rock god
- 1:21:10Speaker 6: that he is that I'm like, you can't... It's hard
- 1:21:14Speaker 6: to listen to that and not... I still like a
- 1:21:16Speaker 6: lot of those songs, but sometimes it just hits me.
- 1:21:18Speaker 6: I'm like, really, Robert?
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: I mean, if I woke up from 1968 through 1978
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: as Robert Plant, then yes, I would conduct myself that way.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: Because he was a fucking rock god.
- 1:21:31Speaker 6: That is a hell of a time for his life.
- 1:21:34Speaker 6: Now he's an old married man.
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: He's still out there rocking. He's an experimental rock god.
- 1:21:40Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: But just that one-two punch of those songs.
- 1:21:52Speaker 12: Brave dreams are like a.
- 1:21:56Speaker 9: Kindle from last.
- 1:22:05Speaker 12: Year Rise out of the battle below.
- 1:22:19Speaker 21: Spread wings over all that he passes So his life
- 1:22:26Speaker 21: can stay immortal to.
- 1:22:28Speaker 22: This country Now the shades of.
- 1:22:34Speaker 7: Green that fall beneath this tree So let the winds
- 1:22:41Speaker 7: of change that rearrange the country.
- 1:22:49Speaker 12: Oh, a seed of memory.
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: My name in the blue satin sash, yeah.
- 1:23:19Speaker 21: Bring love with a song as she passes. So is
- 1:23:25Speaker 21: life and stay immortal to the country.
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: Let every man.
- 1:23:35Speaker 7: Aware of being free. Sometimes when wine is handed to
- 1:23:45Speaker 7: me From a face that walked out of memory.
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: Now that the mountain is burning You wake up in
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: the morning.
- 1:24:14Speaker 9: Oh, won't we?
- 1:24:15Speaker 12: The flowers are giving fruit.
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: All the couples are hurt upon the light.
- 1:24:54Speaker 6: Wrapped dreams that.
- 1:24:56Speaker 12: Are kindled from ashes.
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: Rise out of the battle he loves Spread wings over
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: all that.
- 1:25:12Speaker 22: He passes So his life can stay more.
- 1:25:16Speaker 12: Known to the country The shades of.
- 1:25:22Speaker 7: The green that fall beneath the trees And the winds
- 1:25:29Speaker 7: of change that rearrange this country Let it.
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: Also show a seed of memory Let it always show
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: a seed of memory Remember, we bought a podcast.
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: In Seed of Memory is such a beautiful song anyway,
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: but of course it's, you know, kind of got that
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: note of like, okay, there's something that's quite unforgettable about
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: this group. And of course, later on, we get a sequel,
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: Three from Hell, which the whole funny thing was like,
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: when I knew this movie was coming out, I was like,
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: so like, are they actually coming back from hell? No,
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: they survived the fucking hail of bullets. Somehow.
- 1:27:00Speaker 6: See, there's a reason I hadn't watched that one yet.
- 1:27:03Speaker 6: I might have even got a copy of it, and
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: I still haven't forced myself to watch it.
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: Here's the funny thing, of course, Sid Haig.
- 1:27:11Speaker 6: I love Sid, so that's kind of why I'm going
- 1:27:13Speaker 6: to watch it eventually, but I hadn't gotten.
- 1:27:15Speaker 12: Around to it.
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: It's like he didn't survive the movie because he died
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: before the film was made, so his character was killed.
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: But the other two, Sherry Moon Zombie and Bill.
- 1:27:26Speaker 6: Wait, Sherry Moon's in this movie?
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: What are the odds of that?
- 1:27:29Speaker 6: I don't give her hate that most people do, Sheik.
- 1:27:32Speaker 6: Has specific things that she does well. And who doesn't
- 1:27:35Speaker 6: love Bill Moseley, so.
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And of course, Bill's great in the
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: movie anyway. Yeah. And then they get, oh shoot, I
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: can't remember the name, the actor's name, but basically he
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: ends up playing like a cousin of the Firefly family
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: or something like that, so. And he wasn't around. Like,
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: they basically, they got him in another area. And he's like, oh, yeah,
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: I heard all the things. But, yeah, basically, like, you know,
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: Bill Moseley's character and Shamu and Zombie were like, they
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: were in the hospital for, like, months and months on
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: respirators and shit like that. And they literally come back
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: to life. And then they go into Killing Spree again. So, it's.
- 1:28:07Speaker 6: Obviously, they didn't see how Thelma and Louise capped it off.
- 1:28:10Speaker 6: You didn't get a Thelma and Louise 2. There is
- 1:28:13Speaker 6: a Butch and Sundance 2, but it's a prequel. You
- 1:28:16Speaker 6: gotta prequel it if you're gonna kill them off.
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it doesn't do anything to enhance it. It's not
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: a horrible movie, but if you really, really enjoyed Devil's Rejects.
- 1:28:33Speaker 6: I would say don't. Don't go there.
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: Don't go there, yeah. But yeah, um i would say
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: probably my my last film that i want to talk
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: about just because this is would be the most recent
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: one but um another old song that was not written
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: for the movie but i think just totally fit um
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: i was severely impressed with insidious Going into it, I'm thinking, okay,
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: I knew James Wan was behind this. I was like, okay, well,
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: you've got some talent behind here. You've got a good cast.
- 1:29:04Speaker 6: As we've recently discussed, he knows how to make a
- 1:29:06Speaker 6: horror movie.
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: But I'm like, okay, this is another possession movie or
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: another spooky sort of thing like that. And then when
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: you get into the meat of the movie, you're like, oh, shit.
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: They're doing an astral plane movie without Doctor Strange. And
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: that's where the shit's coming from. that's fucking great. And
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: the way they depict the astral plane in this particular,
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: it's like, that's fucking great. So I was just totally
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: just impressed with the twists on it. That did not,
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: it would, if you hit me with a twist like
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: that and I don't see it coming, then kudos to you,
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: you know, filmmaker, because you, you got me. Uh, and
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: I love getting got. So yeah, I was just thoroughly,
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: thoroughly impressed with that. And then you close out the
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: whole shebang with the sounds of Tiny Tim's Tiptoe Through
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: the Tulips. Which, how this was a pop song and
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: not like, why are you not arresting this man because
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: he's probably got people in the basement. But good God,
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: this is a creepy ass song.
- 1:30:11Speaker 12: Tiptoe by the window, by the window, that is where
- 1:30:16Speaker 12: I'll be.
- 1:30:17Speaker 14: Come tiptoe through.
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: The tulips with me.
- 1:30:26Speaker 12: Oh, tiptoe by the garden, by.
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: The garden of a blue tree. Come tiptoe through.
- 1:30:34Speaker 12: The tulips with me.
- 1:30:40Speaker 4: In flowers we'll stray, we'll keep But shall we make
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: a way And if I kiss you in the garden
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: In the moonlight will you pardon me And tiptoe through
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: the tulips with me.
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: Baby, in flowers.
- 1:31:22Speaker 12: With strain we'll keep.
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: Love shall always win.
- 1:31:32Speaker 12: And if I kiss you.
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: In the garden, if the moonlight will be part of me,
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: I'm tip-top through the tulips with me.
- 1:31:49Speaker 6: He was a weird dude.
- 1:31:50Speaker 13: Yes.
- 1:31:51Speaker 6: Um, I, it is one of those, like you could
- 1:31:53Speaker 6: see it being a novelty song. Like I could see
- 1:31:56Speaker 6: it if it only ever played on Dr. Demento.
- 1:31:59Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 1:32:00Speaker 6: Then I'd be like, Oh yeah, that that's a perfect
- 1:32:02Speaker 6: place for that song. But the fact that like, it
- 1:32:04Speaker 6: was a legit song on the radio and he was man,
- 1:32:08Speaker 6: the career, he was a, yeah, he was a real
- 1:32:11Speaker 6: celebrity at that time. I mean, he's on the tonight
- 1:32:14Speaker 6: show for his nuptials. Like it's, Every weird big publicity
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: stunt that they had at the time, you were going
- 1:32:21Speaker 6: to tie in some Tiny Tim.
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: He was an oddity in himself, and people booking him
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: on shows knew that.
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: Yeah, that was. I mean, yeah, he is the novelty celebrity.
- 1:32:32Speaker 6: I mean, we didn't have reality television yet, so he
- 1:32:36Speaker 6: was the closest equivalent. He's a weirdo, and we all
- 1:32:40Speaker 6: know it, and this is going to be a train wreck,
- 1:32:42Speaker 6: and that's why we booked him.
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: Watch this.
- 1:32:44Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:32:45Speaker 6: But it's weird that it all came from that song, essentially.
- 1:32:49Speaker 6: Because what other song can anybody name that Tiny Tim did?
- 1:32:53Speaker 6: Pretty rare if anybody can come up with any of them,
- 1:32:56Speaker 6: let alone something other than Tiptoe.
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: Through the Tulips. I can name three, including Tiptoe, that
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: are pop songs that feature a ukulele. Raindrops Are Falling
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: on My Head would be the other one. And then
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: the Hawaiian dude that did the Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
- 1:33:13Speaker 6: I love the ukulele, but it does not get worked
- 1:33:15Speaker 6: in a ton, specifically in pop songs.
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: For good reason. But, yeah, but it just, you know,
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: the movie itself was just extremely creepy. You kind of had, like,
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: you know, when you would see, like, some of the
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: demonic faces and, like, you could almost picture them singing
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: the damn song. But, yeah, just... you know, okay, you know,
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: we're tipping toe through the tulips of the astral plane,
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: you know, and I completely, you know, just, yeah, I
- 1:33:41Speaker 2: just love it. There's a great, I just, It was
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: kind of the same way that seeing the end of Seven,
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: and of course you're getting hit with all this shit,
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: and Gwyneth Paltrow's head's in the box, like, oh my god,
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: and Kevin Spacey's the murderer, dude, oh my god. And
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: then the credits start rolling, and they're rolling the wrong
- 1:33:59Speaker 2: fucking way. And then we get the sounds of David
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: Bowie's The Heart's Filthy Lesson. I'm like, that's an end
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: credit scene that fucked me up too. But yeah, when
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: tiptoe through the tulips start coming up, like, you sons
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: of bitches. You got me. I loved it.
- 1:34:14Speaker 6: Well, that one again is a sort of modern movie
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: using an older song.
- 1:34:20Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:34:20Speaker 6: If we're handing off the baton here.
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: We are.
- 1:34:23Speaker 6: I went, as we got into this, it wasn't the
- 1:34:26Speaker 6: first one that occurred to me. But as I was
- 1:34:28Speaker 6: going over the list, I was like, oh, well, I
- 1:34:31Speaker 6: have to work this in because I'm pretty sure this
- 1:34:34Speaker 6: is the first time this moment ever hit me. And
- 1:34:37Speaker 6: it's in an 80s movie, but it's an older song.
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: But I remember as a kid, and it explains a lot,
- 1:34:44Speaker 6: that as a kid I was watching American Werewolf in London.
- 1:34:47Speaker 14: Mm-hmm.
- 1:34:47Speaker 6: And the credits just from horror show in front of
- 1:34:51Speaker 6: you to credits and Blue Moon. Mm-hmm.
- 1:34:59Speaker 12: And I.
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: Liked that song. I actually had at the time, somehow
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: we in the basement, there was a stack of 45s
- 1:35:06Speaker 6: that like somebody had given to us. I don't even
- 1:35:08Speaker 6: know how we came about them. But the one that
- 1:35:11Speaker 6: I had that I remember I really liked was this
- 1:35:14Speaker 6: Marcel's one. And I think it was tied to that.
- 1:35:17Speaker 6: I don't know which came first, but I was like, wait,
- 1:35:19Speaker 6: don't I have that song? Or vice versa. But I
- 1:35:22Speaker 6: remember having that and then playing it on, again, a
- 1:35:25Speaker 6: record player, folks. And that was my tie-in to it.
- 1:35:29Speaker 6: It was like, oh, yeah, this is the end of
- 1:35:31Speaker 6: that werewolf movie. And it's one of the few times
- 1:35:35Speaker 6: I remember that moment of like, oh, I see what
- 1:35:39Speaker 6: you did here.
- 1:35:40Speaker 12: Mm-hmm.
- 1:35:41Speaker 6: Like you capped it off with a song that, ha ha, perfectly,
- 1:35:45Speaker 6: I get it. It's a joke in and of itself,
- 1:35:48Speaker 6: just using that song. And now that's what every director does.
- 1:35:52Speaker 6: Like now it's a signature move for so many directors.
- 1:35:56Speaker 6: And this was one that I guess led the charge
- 1:35:59Speaker 6: with that because Landis thinks he's pretty clever. Because throughout
- 1:36:02Speaker 6: that entire movie, then I was looking at the credits
- 1:36:05Speaker 6: earlier and I'm like, okay, so we've got Moondance, Van Morrison.
- 1:36:09Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 1:36:09Speaker 6: Bad Moonrise in CCR. And both the Sam Cooke and
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: Bobby Vinton Blue Moon.
- 1:36:15Speaker 8: Yep.
- 1:36:16Speaker 6: Before we get to the Marcells.
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:36:18Speaker 6: So, yeah, he thinks he's real funny, that John Landis.
- 1:36:37Speaker 23: Blue moon, you saw me standing alone Without a dream
- 1:36:40Speaker 23: in my heart Without a love on.
- 1:36:42Speaker 12: My mind Blue moon.
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: You knew just what I was there for You heard
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: me saying a prayer for Someone I really care for
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: And then they suddenly forgive before me.
- 1:37:20Speaker 12: The only one my heart would ever hold.
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: I heard somebody whisper, please, adore me.
- 1:37:35Speaker 12: And when I look, the moon is.
- 1:37:38Speaker 9: Dead to go.
- 1:37:41Speaker 12: Oh, blue moon. Now I'm no longer.
- 1:37:48Speaker 9: Alone.
- 1:37:49Speaker 12: Without a dream.
- 1:37:50Speaker 9: In my heart.
- 1:37:53Speaker 12: Without a love of my own.
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:38:00Speaker 9: Thank you. Thank you.
- 1:38:04Speaker 12: Thank you.
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: But, I mean.
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: You're doing kind of the quintessential werewolf movie. I'm sorry,
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: has there been another werewolf movie that has topped American
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: Werewolf in London since its release?
- 1:38:45Speaker 6: In what sense? Impact or.
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: Impact in quality, in cultural relevance, anything.
- 1:38:54Speaker 6: I like Cursed. I didn't see that for years. I
- 1:38:59Speaker 6: finally watched it and I'm like, this is a fun movie.
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: I don't care what anybody says.
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: It's fun.
- 1:39:05Speaker 6: It was fun.
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: It's fun. It's fun. It's fun.
- 1:39:09Speaker 6: Wes occasionally just likes to have fun.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: But if we're talking about... The kind of horror movie
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: that all other horror movies seem to come from or
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: are heavily influenced by or when we refer to a
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: certain type of a subgenre of a horror film. Like
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: when we talk about zombie movies, we talk about Night
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: of the Living Dead. We talk about Dawn of the Dead,
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: you know, stuff like that. We talk about werewolf movies
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: unless we're talking about fucking Lon Chaney.
- 1:39:35Speaker 6: So I was going to say there are two eras.
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: We're talking old.
- 1:39:38Speaker 6: Timey werewolf man shaped person or full on giant wolf
- 1:39:43Speaker 6: version which that was the coolest thing. I just got
- 1:39:47Speaker 6: a copy of it. I haven't watched it in forever
- 1:39:49Speaker 6: and I ran across it for cheap and I was
- 1:39:50Speaker 6: like do I have this?
- 1:39:51Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 1:39:52Speaker 6: I'm buying it anyway because it's also the one that
- 1:39:54Speaker 6: has the full on documentary on it with it that
- 1:39:56Speaker 6: I want to go back and rewatch. But it is
- 1:40:00Speaker 6: amazing that creature that they created for it number one
- 1:40:04Speaker 6: because you never really saw a werewolf like that before
- 1:40:07Speaker 6: then but um aside from that i mean everybody goes
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: on and on about the effects rightfully so they're amazing
- 1:40:13Speaker 6: but that was also that moment in time because it's
- 1:40:17Speaker 6: the same year as the howling yes which i feel
- 1:40:20Speaker 6: like is the other version of that the joe dante
- 1:40:23Speaker 6: doesn't have the same budget as you so we're not
- 1:40:26Speaker 6: going to get the full-on effects that you are.
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: But we're going to get really cool stuff. We're also
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: getting a really good werewolf movie. So yeah, I think
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: that 81.
- 1:40:35Speaker 6: Is just like the, that's where you go for like
- 1:40:37Speaker 6: that turning point in werewolf movies. It's like, you know,
- 1:40:40Speaker 6: you've got Lon Chaney jr. And then years and years
- 1:40:44Speaker 6: of just people kind of knocking that off until you
- 1:40:46Speaker 6: get to 1981. And then like between the Howling and
- 1:40:49Speaker 6: American werewolf in London, like nothing's ever going to be
- 1:40:52Speaker 6: the same for werewolf movies again.
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: So, yeah. And I love too, that John Landis loves
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: throwing in, dirty jokes as an Easter egg in his movies.
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: Most notorious would be the film we're never going to see,
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: See You Next Wednesday.
- 1:41:09Speaker 12: Yep.
- 1:41:09Speaker 2: Which would be, I guess, the sequel to See You
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: Next Tuesday. But, you know, if you know what that means, folks,
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: take out the front letters there.
- 1:41:16Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:41:17Speaker 6: It's a dirty one.
- 1:41:17Speaker 12: Landis.
- 1:41:19Speaker 6: I would give him more credit, but we all know there's.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: Issues with Landis as a filmmaker.
- 1:41:25Speaker 6: I love it.
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: See You Next Wednesday pops up. It's been an action movie.
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: It's been a porn film. It's been a love story. Yeah,
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: just love it.
- 1:41:35Speaker 6: Again, he was somebody who just loved that. Growing up
- 1:41:38Speaker 6: on schlock. literally like that was the kind of stuff
- 1:41:41Speaker 6: he wanted to do. And he got suckered into making
- 1:41:45Speaker 6: these comedies that did really well. And then they're like, well,
- 1:41:47Speaker 6: what do you want to do now that you have
- 1:41:48Speaker 6: millions of dollars to blow on something? And he's like, Oh,
- 1:41:50Speaker 6: I'm still waking my world movie. Like I've been working
- 1:41:53Speaker 6: on this one in my head for years.
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: He literally did a movie called schlock.
- 1:41:57Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:41:57Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying. That's where he started. And then
- 1:41:59Speaker 6: like eventually came around and was like, I'm going to
- 1:42:03Speaker 6: make my werewolf movie. And yeah, He sure did.
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: But I mean, yeah, I say it's just, you know,
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: the makeup in the film, you know, won numerous Oscars.
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: It started, you know, careers for people. Yeah.
- 1:42:14Speaker 6: And brought not just acceptability, but like prestige to effects,
- 1:42:20Speaker 6: you know, where we were all still watching horror movies
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: and we still love that stuff. But like nobody really
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: cared in the official sense. But once it got that
- 1:42:28Speaker 6: kind of recognition that the Oscars are like, OK, this is.
- 1:42:31Speaker 6: amazing and groundbreaking and we're going to make a special
- 1:42:34Speaker 6: award for you. Then people were like, oh, this is
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: like a real industry. Guys have been doing it in
- 1:42:41Speaker 6: the kitchen for years, throwing shit together to be like,
- 1:42:44Speaker 6: this is going to be the blood. Finally, it got
- 1:42:47Speaker 6: some sort of notoriety and respectability.
- 1:42:51Speaker 2: Of course, as far as films go, in 1981 when
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: this movie came out, we had never seen a transformation
- 1:42:58Speaker 2: like that on film before. I mean, Lon Chaney's stuff
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: was done in, like, dissolves. You know, we'd never seen
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: an in-time transformation from man to beast, and that was
- 1:43:08Speaker 2: just horrifying. But, of course, there's so much... There was
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: some cool shit in this movie, too. I mean, like,
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: the whole dream sequence.
- 1:43:16Speaker 6: I think that's what everybody remembers outside of the transformation scene.
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:43:20Speaker 6: If you ask most fans of it, they're like, and
- 1:43:22Speaker 6: then that one dream sequence, and, like, that's the... the
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: weird cutaways that people like have stuck in their head.
- 1:43:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: Because like, you know, for the writer to like delve
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: so much, like let's get into like his subconscious, like he,
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: his subconscious knows he's transforming into this beast and who
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: he was and what he was before is gone, you know,
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: sort of thing like that. So the student who's at
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: home and with his family and all that, nah, he's,
- 1:43:45Speaker 2: he's fucking killed, you know, and we're going to slaughter
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: the whole family too. Everybody's dead, you know? And in
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: his mind, it was, werewolf nazi zombies yeah like with
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: machine guns like.
- 1:43:56Speaker 24: All right whatever you say yeah but yeah i figured
- 1:44:02Speaker 24: that was the first time i remember this happening with
- 1:44:06Speaker 24: credits and so i was like well we gotta work that.
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: In yeah it's it's a it's a striking moment.
- 1:44:11Speaker 6: So my next go-to and probably the one that i
- 1:44:14Speaker 6: was most again as we started talking about this it
- 1:44:18Speaker 6: was the first one that came up in general when
- 1:44:20Speaker 6: we were just talking about in credits And then it
- 1:44:23Speaker 6: was also, once we switched to horror, I was like, okay,
- 1:44:27Speaker 6: well now I can work that in, assuming one or
- 1:44:29Speaker 6: the other of us doesn't grab it. I'll definitely have
- 1:44:31Speaker 6: to get to something from Scream, speaking of Wes earlier.
- 1:44:35Speaker 6: What's weird is, as I said with the last of
- 1:44:38Speaker 6: these episodes, the way I remember it is not always
- 1:44:41Speaker 6: the way it is. To this day, when I hear
- 1:44:44Speaker 6: the song First Cool Hive.
- 1:44:49Speaker 6: I think it's a credit song. It's a Moby song
- 1:44:52Speaker 6: and it's very cool. It was kind of that era.
- 1:44:55Speaker 6: Moby was on a ton of soundtracks at that time.
- 1:44:57Speaker 6: And like, this is one of those weird ones that
- 1:44:59Speaker 6: just got worked in there. It's not at all in
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: the credits. It's worked into the, it's featured pretty heavily in,
- 1:45:06Speaker 6: in that definitely that first movie it's on the soundtrack,
- 1:45:09Speaker 6: but it is not a credit song.
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: Interesting.
- 1:45:11Speaker 6: So then, yeah, I was like, well, we've got, what
- 1:45:14Speaker 6: it actually ends with that first one is I do
- 1:45:17Speaker 6: think that first soundtrack is, pretty great. Like I love
- 1:45:20Speaker 6: that Gus song. Like I've definitely worked other stuff in
- 1:45:23Speaker 6: over the years, but like that first one is just
- 1:45:26Speaker 6: really solid. So like I could go with anything off
- 1:45:29Speaker 6: of there, you know, as far as stuff that I
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: really like on a tight end soundtrack kind of thing,
- 1:45:34Speaker 6: but it ends with, um, whisper to a scream by Soho,
- 1:45:40Speaker 6: which is a cool, again, I remembered that from the soundtrack.
- 1:45:43Speaker 6: I did not remember. That's what kicks off the credits.
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:45:47Speaker 6: So I was like, there's that to work in.
- 1:46:24Speaker 25: Love comes down upon us and it flows like water,
- 1:46:27Speaker 25: burning with a hope of insight, feathered books, the colors
- 1:46:34Speaker 25: of a bright elation.
- 1:46:35Speaker 23: Stolen in the sight of love. We are, we are,
- 1:46:41Speaker 23: we are, we're just children finding our way around. are
- 1:46:51Speaker 23: other helpless faces forever whisper to me.
- 1:47:05Speaker 25: Birds fly in the eye of a faithless daughter spoken
- 1:47:10Speaker 25: at the bitter end wasted sacrifice for the noon.
- 1:47:17Speaker 14: Of honor.
- 1:47:27Speaker 23: We are, we are, we are all the helpless. Take
- 1:47:35Speaker 23: this forever. Whisper to the screen. Whisper to the screen.
- 1:47:42Speaker 23: Whisper to the screen.
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: With tattoos, with tattoos With tattoos, with tattoos With.
- 1:48:42Speaker 6: Tattoos I don't know. Like I went back and forth.
- 1:50:39Speaker 6: Cause then I started looking at the sequels. It's also
- 1:50:41Speaker 6: not on the end of any of the sequels that,
- 1:50:43Speaker 6: that weird movie song. So that one was just like
- 1:50:45Speaker 6: worked in there and, and became, but it, that series
- 1:50:50Speaker 6: has such a, a just overarching kind of not just story,
- 1:50:54Speaker 6: but things, you know, it's like it creates its own
- 1:50:57Speaker 6: little universe there. So then there's like, since it has
- 1:51:01Speaker 6: its own theme song, It just is worked in as
- 1:51:05Speaker 6: a song in the middle of the movies for the
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: first two. But the third one, not only do they
- 1:51:10Speaker 6: round it out with Red Right Hand, but he writes
- 1:51:13Speaker 6: new lyrics for it.
- 1:51:15Speaker 26: Yeah.
- 1:51:16Speaker 6: I was like, I guess if we have to get
- 1:51:17Speaker 6: something in that's from the credits of the Scream, what
- 1:51:21Speaker 6: is now a quadrology or franchise. Now we've trained, tanned
- 1:51:25Speaker 6: it off and have a fifth one. And that song
- 1:51:27Speaker 6: is featured in four out of five of those.
- 1:51:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it's kind of become the franchise's signature song.
- 1:51:32Speaker 6: Yeah, it is our theme song, essentially. Definitely for that
- 1:51:35Speaker 6: original trilogy, and then they brought it back in this
- 1:51:37Speaker 6: fifth one. So, yeah, it's become... It's come to represent
- 1:51:41Speaker 6: the entire Scream universe, more or less.
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: It was probably the entry point for everybody for Nick
- 1:51:47Speaker 2: Cave if you weren't an indie music fan.
- 1:51:50Speaker 6: See, yeah, I already had definitely murder ballads, and I
- 1:51:54Speaker 6: already knew the song from other stuff, but it was
- 1:51:57Speaker 6: weird when I was like, oh, that's that song, because
- 1:52:00Speaker 6: I was already listening to Nick Cave. But it was
- 1:52:02Speaker 6: cool that it got worked in that first movie, and
- 1:52:04Speaker 6: then it was almost weird that it became the theme song.
- 1:52:07Speaker 6: It was a pre-existing thing, but it became the theme song.
- 1:52:10Speaker 6: And now, as I went online, it also is Peaky
- 1:52:14Speaker 6: Blinders tie-in, which I had not watched, so I didn't
- 1:52:16Speaker 6: know that. But that became, I think, their intro song.
- 1:52:20Speaker 6: I think it was like the theme song for that
- 1:52:22Speaker 6: show for several seasons. So I was like, interesting. All right.
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: But I'm all about Nick Cave getting more money.
- 1:52:29Speaker 6: So yeah, Nick Cave seems like a pretty awesome guy
- 1:52:32Speaker 6: and knows how to write a song. So it was pretty,
- 1:52:35Speaker 6: you know, I think that was kind of like a
- 1:52:37Speaker 6: thank you from both of them. It's like, thank you
- 1:52:39Speaker 6: for letting me use your song. And he's like, okay,
- 1:52:41Speaker 6: thank you for making me huge because of it. And
- 1:52:44Speaker 6: you know what? I'll write you a whole new version
- 1:52:46Speaker 6: for number three. So yeah, this is the readjusted version
- 1:52:50Speaker 6: of Red Right Hand for actually it's, credited on IMDb
- 1:52:54Speaker 6: as Red Right Hand 2 when it goes on the
- 1:52:57Speaker 6: Scream 3 soundtrack there.
- 1:53:00Speaker 3: So....
- 1:53:17Speaker 5: Take a little walk to the edge of town.
- 1:53:20Speaker 2: Now spread your wings and fly. Don't the lights of
- 1:53:26Speaker 2: the city look so damn.
- 1:53:28Speaker 11: Pretty when you.
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: Fly so high?
- 1:53:33Speaker 20: It's hard to know that down below The streets, babe,
- 1:53:39Speaker 20: are swimming deep in.
- 1:53:41Speaker 12: Blood It's enough to.
- 1:53:43Speaker 5: Make me groan and cry You really wanna know what's
- 1:53:52Speaker 5: wrong with this land?
- 1:53:53Speaker 17: Just scratching your head with your red right hand.
- 1:54:06Speaker 27: You see, everyone's a liar, baby, that's the truth. Said
- 1:54:15Speaker 27: everyone's a liar.
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: Baby, and I got proof. You got a new boy.
- 1:54:25Speaker 20: You feel you're in with a chance You think you're
- 1:54:29Speaker 20: in his arms but you're in his hands They still
- 1:54:33Speaker 20: seem so cute and true Groovy But to get that
- 1:54:40Speaker 20: boy up on the stand And to watch.
- 1:54:45Speaker 12: Him raise his red light hand.
- 1:54:55Speaker 5: Yeah, move your hips, baby, or move your eyes. I
- 1:55:04Speaker 5: use your lips, baby, to.
- 1:55:07Speaker 12: Conceal his cries.
- 1:55:12Speaker 27: He's a trace in a tiny finger down your spine.
- 1:55:18Speaker 20: He's leaving behind a thin red line.
- 1:55:23Speaker 27: Don't get so safe when it all comes down so heavy.
- 1:55:29Speaker 2: A low wind moans.
- 1:55:31Speaker 6: Across this land As he.
- 1:55:34Speaker 2: Rips your chest with his red right.
- 1:55:37Speaker 14: Hand Thank you.
- 1:56:11Speaker 9: Thank you.
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: I'm talking about blood, babe.
- 1:56:55Speaker 5: It's in your veins.
- 1:56:59Speaker 27: Your mommy and daddy, they've got the same.
- 1:57:09Speaker 17: You're under the mirror day after day. You see a
- 1:57:15Speaker 17: pretty face crumbling away.
- 1:57:18Speaker 27: As you become your mom and daddy Scream once, scream twice,
- 1:57:27Speaker 27: now scream again Cover that face with your big bright.
- 1:57:32Speaker 9: Hand Thank you.
- 1:58:00Speaker 12: Bye. Thank you.
- 1:58:56Speaker 6: And then I had to because I brought it up
- 1:58:59Speaker 6: I was like damn it I know I worked this
- 1:59:01Speaker 6: in on that episode but that was 11 years ago
- 1:59:03Speaker 6: and I don't give a rat's ass I one of
- 1:59:07Speaker 6: my favorite ending songs and one that's so perfectly balances
- 1:59:13Speaker 6: out the movie many people have problems with the fourth
- 1:59:17Speaker 6: scream I think there's a lot of good stuff in
- 1:59:19Speaker 6: it but that final song is one of my favorite
- 1:59:23Speaker 6: things about that movie Bad Karma which is done by
- 1:59:27Speaker 6: Ida Maria. Didn't really know her beforehand, but it kicks
- 1:59:31Speaker 6: in really hard as those credits roll. And then as
- 1:59:36Speaker 6: the lyrics go on, I'm like, yeah, specifically for what
- 1:59:39Speaker 6: goes on in this movie, this is the best possible song.
- 1:59:42Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:59:43Speaker 6: I love some bad karma.
- 1:59:50Speaker 28: You better believe in karma Baby, it's gonna sting The
- 2:00:00Speaker 28: wheel of life's gonna do you in So I don't.
- 2:00:03Speaker 12: Really have to do a thing You took.
- 2:00:06Speaker 28: Me out of my money You messed.
- 2:00:09Speaker 12: Up my love life and my career.
- 2:00:10Speaker 28: You better believe and come on.
- 2:00:14Speaker 3: Guess it's gonna start getting weird right here.
- 2:00:16Speaker 12: But come on.
- 2:00:19Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 2:00:20Speaker 12: Baby, that's what you got. Better come on.
- 2:00:24Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 2:00:25Speaker 12: Do you believe it or not?
- 2:00:37Speaker 21: Bad karma's a bitch You.
- 2:00:47Speaker 28: Better believe in Jesus Cause only he can save you
- 2:00:53Speaker 28: now Throw in a saint or two, I dumped ya
- 2:00:57Speaker 28: Three Hail Marys and a Hare Krishna.
- 2:00:59Speaker 12: You made me drink.
- 2:01:01Speaker 28: The Kool-Aid You tricked me into thinking I'd kill me
- 2:01:04Speaker 28: instead You're the firstborn of.
- 2:01:06Speaker 1: The devil But even he ain't taking you.
- 2:01:09Speaker 12: Back, back, back, back. Come on. Yeah.
- 2:01:13Speaker 9: Maybe that's what you got.
- 2:01:16Speaker 4: Bad.
- 2:01:16Speaker 3: Come on. Yeah. Do you believe it or not?
- 2:01:23Speaker 12: The universe is going.
- 2:01:25Speaker 3: To get you.
- 2:01:28Speaker 12: You'll be scratching the surface. It's just my opinion.
- 2:01:32Speaker 2: Damn.
- 2:01:32Speaker 12: Bad karma's a bitch. La, la, la. Better believe and
- 2:01:44Speaker 12: come on. Just look at the sorry shape you're in.
- 2:01:48Speaker 3: There's a doll with your name and your gloomy face.
- 2:01:51Speaker 12: The Department of Doom with a rush on your case.
- 2:01:54Speaker 12: You better believe in voodoo, babe.
- 2:01:56Speaker 26: I got a long list of your sins.
- 2:01:59Speaker 12: There's a word you might have heard called payback. And
- 2:02:02Speaker 12: I'm running out of pills.
- 2:02:11Speaker 9: Come on. Yeah.
- 2:02:13Speaker 3: Do you believe it or not?
- 2:02:17Speaker 12: The universe is going.
- 2:02:18Speaker 3: To get you. You're stretching to save your life.
- 2:02:25Speaker 12: And that's just what I think.
- 2:02:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:02:28Speaker 12: Mad Karma's a bitch. Mad Karma's a bitch.
- 2:02:33Speaker 3: Mad Karma's a bitch.
- 2:02:36Speaker 12: Mad Karma's a bitch.
- 2:02:37Speaker 2: I gotta go back and watch Scream 4, because I
- 2:02:39Speaker 2: haven't seen the new one. I know you all have
- 2:02:41Speaker 2: talked about it on the show previously, but I haven't
- 2:02:43Speaker 2: gone and seen the new one, and I think I've
- 2:02:47Speaker 2: seen Scream 4, but I don't remember anything about it.
- 2:02:50Speaker 2: Is that the one that got Hayden Panettiere in it? Yes. Okay,
- 2:02:56Speaker 2: that's what I remember about the movie, and that's about it.
- 2:02:58Speaker 6: And she's pretty great. I do like her. She's a
- 2:03:01Speaker 6: nice addition, and I... Again, my issues are what happens
- 2:03:05Speaker 6: with the story and what I wanted to happen with
- 2:03:07Speaker 6: the story versus what actually happens in the movie.
- 2:03:10Speaker 2: Yeah, because I remember the killer in one is the
- 2:03:13Speaker 2: two boys and the killer in two is the mom.
- 2:03:15Speaker 2: The killer in three is the long lost brother. But
- 2:03:17Speaker 2: I can't remember who the killer in four is.
- 2:03:19Speaker 6: And I'll let you rediscover it.
- 2:03:20Speaker 2: Oh, great.
- 2:03:21Speaker 6: Thanks. Now, again, I think that's my only issue with it,
- 2:03:27Speaker 6: as I wish he would. And I said this at
- 2:03:29Speaker 6: great length on that episode and have said it since then.
- 2:03:31Speaker 6: I do wish he would have changed things up. I
- 2:03:34Speaker 6: feel like it falls into the screen mold almost too
- 2:03:38Speaker 6: perfectly as the other three. So it's like I wanted
- 2:03:41Speaker 6: him to change things up. But we do get a
- 2:03:43Speaker 6: great reveal, a great whatever goes on with the killer.
- 2:03:48Speaker 6: I'm not even going to go into that. But if
- 2:03:50Speaker 6: you haven't seen it, it's amazing. And the way that
- 2:03:55Speaker 6: it sort of rounds things out. I was just bored
- 2:03:57Speaker 6: with the older characters. I'm like, for the love of God,
- 2:03:59Speaker 6: have we not killed off Courtney Cox yet? Please!
- 2:04:02Speaker 2: I know, right?
- 2:04:03Speaker 6: And even Nev, I love her in the movie, but
- 2:04:05Speaker 6: I was like, you could mix things up. You could
- 2:04:07Speaker 6: take her out. And like, it doesn't happen. We all
- 2:04:10Speaker 6: know she's in this last movie. But, yeah. So I
- 2:04:13Speaker 6: think that kind of stuff, I was.
- 2:04:17Speaker 6: Familiar with a little too much but i think watching
- 2:04:19Speaker 6: what goes on in the movie each scene because i
- 2:04:22Speaker 6: re-watched it i think a year or two before the
- 2:04:24Speaker 6: next one came out and like all of those individual
- 2:04:28Speaker 6: scenes are so good like still i'm like west that
- 2:04:31Speaker 6: was towards the end of the run and like he's
- 2:04:33Speaker 6: still just so good at putting together these scenes and
- 2:04:37Speaker 6: like making a great horror scenario and like each of
- 2:04:41Speaker 6: these little moments is like perfect on its own and
- 2:04:44Speaker 6: you put it together. And sometimes it's not as good
- 2:04:47Speaker 6: as an overall thing. So it's, it's got issues again
- 2:04:50Speaker 6: with where the story goes, but I think those scenes
- 2:04:52Speaker 6: are terrific and there's some great performances. So one of
- 2:04:56Speaker 6: my favorite things though, is the ending song.
- 2:05:01Speaker 2: I gotta go back and see, see that one and
- 2:05:05Speaker 2: then check out the new one, which it irritated me
- 2:05:07Speaker 2: that of the three leads they bring back for this
- 2:05:10Speaker 2: new screen film, The one they kill off is David Arquette.
- 2:05:13Speaker 2: I'm like, are you kidding?
- 2:05:15Speaker 6: See, that's what I said. I went and I said
- 2:05:18Speaker 6: this the fourth one. I said this the last episode.
- 2:05:21Speaker 6: I was like, that's the one I wanted to carry
- 2:05:23Speaker 6: on because that was my favorite thing out of these
- 2:05:26Speaker 6: is he seems like he's dead at the end of
- 2:05:28Speaker 6: the first movie.
- 2:05:29Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 2:05:29Speaker 6: And like he comes back and like he keeps getting
- 2:05:32Speaker 6: more injured. He's like limping and his arms messed up.
- 2:05:36Speaker 6: And so like by the time we get like, I'm like,
- 2:05:38Speaker 6: once you get to four and five, You can kill
- 2:05:40Speaker 6: off Nev. You can kill off Courtney.
- 2:05:42Speaker 2: And, like, the only thing that should carry on is
- 2:05:45Speaker 2: this grizzled old dude that's probably not even a cop
- 2:05:48Speaker 2: anymore just following them around the country wherever the hell
- 2:05:51Speaker 2: this new scream.
- 2:05:52Speaker 6: Thing pops up. There's Dewey showing up again. Like, I'm like,
- 2:05:56Speaker 6: that's a great legacy to bring into this. that's not
- 2:05:59Speaker 6: what happens but i i like the idea if.
- 2:06:03Speaker 2: I had my way with the series i would have
- 2:06:05Speaker 2: done the you know the the fake out with killing
- 2:06:08Speaker 2: dewey in the third one actually killing gail in the
- 2:06:12Speaker 2: third one i.
- 2:06:13Speaker 6: Said that definitely by the time of the fourth one
- 2:06:15Speaker 6: i was like there's a perfect scene to kill her
- 2:06:17Speaker 6: in the fourth one and they go about it all
- 2:06:19Speaker 6: weird so.
- 2:06:20Speaker 2: Yeah see i would have yeah i would have killed
- 2:06:22Speaker 2: off gail in the third one because they did they
- 2:06:24Speaker 2: were they were you know Making the relationship a little
- 2:06:26Speaker 2: more real or something like that. I think they proposed
- 2:06:29Speaker 2: to each other in the second one. I don't know. Anyway.
- 2:06:31Speaker 2: But nonetheless, I would have killed her in the third one.
- 2:06:34Speaker 2: And then to make a statement for the fourth one. Like,
- 2:06:37Speaker 2: this is a new thing. A new generation. We're trying
- 2:06:39Speaker 2: to start this up again. Whatever else. Kill Nev off
- 2:06:42Speaker 2: in the fourth one. Beginning of the movie.
- 2:06:46Speaker 6: Again, I really like what she's done. And even in
- 2:06:49Speaker 6: the new one. I think she shows up and does
- 2:06:51Speaker 6: great work.
- 2:06:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:06:52Speaker 6: But for the overall story, I think that would have
- 2:06:55Speaker 6: been an interesting way to mix it, especially the way
- 2:06:58Speaker 6: they round out the fourth one. I think there's a
- 2:07:01Speaker 6: whole new direction they could have taken it, and they
- 2:07:03Speaker 6: stick to the usual stuff. I get it. It's a
- 2:07:06Speaker 6: safe cookie-cutter way to do these horror movies.
- 2:07:11Speaker 2: You don't want to stray too far from it.
- 2:07:12Speaker 6: He's made a fortune off of it.
- 2:07:14Speaker 2: One other thing, too, is that it would have been
- 2:07:15Speaker 2: a big deal because you had all your stunt castings
- 2:07:19Speaker 2: for the beginnings of the movie, and that was the
- 2:07:20Speaker 2: first person to get killed off. Drew Barrymore in the
- 2:07:22Speaker 2: first one, Jada Pinkett in the second one, you know,
- 2:07:24Speaker 2: that sort of thing like that.
- 2:07:25Speaker 4: Cotton.
- 2:07:26Speaker 6: We kill off cotton.
- 2:07:27Speaker 2: Yeah. It's like, wouldn't that have been a big deal
- 2:07:29Speaker 2: to start the fourth movie killing off your supposed lead?
- 2:07:32Speaker 3: Yep.
- 2:07:33Speaker 2: Very Argento of you, Mr. Craven, but nope.
- 2:07:36Speaker 6: I think so.
- 2:07:37Speaker 2: You went safe, which I got a feeling if he
- 2:07:40Speaker 2: had made that choice, probably some producers in the studio
- 2:07:44Speaker 2: may have said no.
- 2:07:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:07:45Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm sure he probably wrote it that way and
- 2:07:50Speaker 2: they were like, we can't kill off our lead. Yes,
- 2:07:52Speaker 2: we can.
- 2:08:05Speaker 3: You keep saying you got something for me there's something you.
- 2:08:12Speaker 2: Call love but confess.
- 2:08:17Speaker 18: Hi, this is Crispin Glover, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 2:08:49Speaker 6: All right, well, if we're going 80s slashers, and then
- 2:08:57Speaker 6: I was going through different options earlier, and I was like, well,
- 2:09:00Speaker 6: let's do one that's a little off the beaten path,
- 2:09:04Speaker 6: as was the movie. And my theory, which I made
- 2:09:08Speaker 6: on an episode a long time ago, was the one
- 2:09:10Speaker 6: that arguably maybe killed 80s slashers movies, April Fool's Day. Ha, ha, ha, ha.
- 2:09:18Speaker 6: Which I loved at the time. And then as I
- 2:09:20Speaker 6: went back and revisited it, I was like, it does
- 2:09:23Speaker 6: all these things that just piss off horror fans.
- 2:09:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:09:26Speaker 6: To the point that you don't really... Can you think
- 2:09:29Speaker 6: of any big slasher movies that weren't part of a
- 2:09:33Speaker 6: series that comes after April Fool's Day? Maybe Chucky. And
- 2:09:38Speaker 6: I don't really think of him as a real slasher.
- 2:09:40Speaker 6: But everything gets goofy and silly the further you get
- 2:09:43Speaker 6: into the Chuckies and Leprechauns and stuff down the slasher path. And, like,
- 2:09:48Speaker 6: I feel like that was the dividing line, is after
- 2:09:50Speaker 6: April Fool's, they were like, screw this.
- 2:09:52Speaker 2: Like, it just doesn't... Things did start getting a little
- 2:09:55Speaker 2: more ridiculous.
- 2:09:56Speaker 6: Yeah, it rubbed old school horror fans the wrong way.
- 2:09:59Speaker 6: At the time, I don't feel like people liked it.
- 2:10:02Speaker 6: Even now, I feel like there's a lot of people that, like,
- 2:10:04Speaker 6: it sort of got a resurgence and people changed their
- 2:10:07Speaker 6: minds on it, maybe. But, yeah, I think it's one
- 2:10:10Speaker 6: of those that just rubbed people the wrong way as
- 2:10:12Speaker 6: a horror movie goes.
- 2:10:14Speaker 4: But.
- 2:10:14Speaker 6: of it not taking itself seriously at all, even within
- 2:10:18Speaker 6: the movie, then you get to the credits and it
- 2:10:21Speaker 6: does Too Bad You're Crazy, which is sung by Jerry
- 2:10:27Speaker 6: Whitman and is memorable, if nothing else.
- 2:10:34Speaker 11: Too bad you're crazy Too bad you're loony as.
- 2:10:38Speaker 6: Hell So long.
- 2:10:40Speaker 29: It could have been swell together Too bad you're wacko.
- 2:10:48Speaker 29: How sad your marbles are gone. We could be dancing
- 2:10:52Speaker 29: till dawn, but you're too weird for words. How did
- 2:10:57Speaker 29: you get so strange? You were such a beautiful kid.
- 2:11:02Speaker 29: Now you are so deranged. Was it mom and daddy?
- 2:11:06Speaker 29: Something I did?
- 2:11:08Speaker 12: Too bad you're no-no.
- 2:11:09Speaker 6: Too bad.
- 2:11:10Speaker 12: You shouldn't be locked in a cell.
- 2:11:13Speaker 11: Ha, sad, you're great, but hey, what the hell, you're crazy.
- 2:11:19Speaker 12: You're off the deep end.
- 2:11:21Speaker 11: Your life's a practical joke. I'd bail you out, but
- 2:11:26Speaker 11: I'm broke. Your brain's completely fried. Life's just a party
- 2:11:32Speaker 11: trick to you. Clown jokes and lots of booty do.
- 2:11:36Speaker 2: It's time to put that.
- 2:11:38Speaker 14: On the shelf.
- 2:11:42Speaker 12: I'm a little bit crazy myself.
- 2:13:12Speaker 6: But certainly needs to be the end of any horror
- 2:13:15Speaker 6: movie of a bunch of craziness going on. This is
- 2:13:18Speaker 6: the theme song you need.
- 2:13:19Speaker 2: God, that's a movie I haven't seen in like about
- 2:13:22Speaker 2: 30 odd years. But man, yeah, talk about a dividing
- 2:13:26Speaker 2: line there. Yeah, because definitely that was kind of a
- 2:13:30Speaker 2: late period one there. But I mean, like your 90s period,
- 2:13:34Speaker 2: like there was a lot of experiment. Like, let's try to,
- 2:13:36Speaker 2: you know. start this off. Let's try to start this off.
- 2:13:39Speaker 2: And really, like, you know, Chucky and the Hellraiser were
- 2:13:44Speaker 2: probably your best franchises to come out of that late 80s,
- 2:13:47Speaker 2: 90s period. But then you had, like, Shocker. And you
- 2:13:51Speaker 2: had Brain Scan. And, um, God. I mean, there was,
- 2:13:57Speaker 2: you know, Wishmaster.
- 2:13:58Speaker 6: They kept trying to get these things going. And sometimes
- 2:14:01Speaker 6: they did. They made a bunch of Wishmasters. But, like,
- 2:14:04Speaker 6: does anybody really think back as, like, It's my favorite
- 2:14:06Speaker 6: horror movie of that era. No.
- 2:14:08Speaker 2: If you're a Wishmaster fan, I'm sorry. Let me introduce
- 2:14:12Speaker 2: you to a couple other movies. Maybe you're just getting
- 2:14:13Speaker 2: to see a lot.
- 2:14:14Speaker 6: Didn't you see Warlock? I mean, you could have been
- 2:14:16Speaker 6: going down the Warlock path.
- 2:14:18Speaker 2: See, I dug Warlock, though. The sequel's not so much.
- 2:14:21Speaker 6: I have not watched it since the original time.
- 2:14:23Speaker 2: The OG Warlock is good. The sequel's not so much.
- 2:14:26Speaker 6: I just remember that's another one of those that got
- 2:14:28Speaker 6: a bunch of sequels. And I was like, did anybody
- 2:14:30Speaker 6: watch any of these? How does it keep getting sequels?
- 2:14:34Speaker 6: Chewing Sands has nothing else to do I guess well
- 2:14:36Speaker 6: I mean.
- 2:14:36Speaker 2: They made like four house movies and two of them
- 2:14:39Speaker 2: have nothing to do with each other and two of
- 2:14:41Speaker 2: them weren't even released in this country so it's like
- 2:14:43Speaker 2: wait a minute.
- 2:14:46Speaker 6: Oh you know and.
- 2:14:46Speaker 2: Troll 2 has no trolls.
- 2:14:48Speaker 6: Let's come on it's a classic though honey is breakfast ready?
- 2:14:57Speaker 6: uh well let's see of of my recent one the
- 2:15:00Speaker 6: only thing that came up and this was weird because
- 2:15:02Speaker 6: it came up as after we'd already discussed this i
- 2:15:07Speaker 6: was like piecing stuff together of what we were gonna
- 2:15:10Speaker 6: do and then i'm watching this movie for the show
- 2:15:13Speaker 6: and then i'm listening to the credits and i'm like
- 2:15:20Speaker 6: I know that voice. What is this song? And I
- 2:15:23Speaker 6: somehow had not gotten around to the movie until we
- 2:15:25Speaker 6: watched it for the show. This is Dead Silence, and
- 2:15:29Speaker 6: the closing song is actually, it kicks off with instrumental stuff,
- 2:15:33Speaker 6: and it's going along, and then halfway in switches gears
- 2:15:36Speaker 6: to Who's Holding You Now by Jeanette Napolitano.
- 2:15:49Speaker 12: Are you in the arms of a stranger?
- 2:15:52Speaker 22: It's dangerous the way I'm feeling So disconnected, so rejected
- 2:16:02Speaker 22: Staring at the ceiling from the side of the bed
- 2:16:08Speaker 22: Remembering things that you said And now you're saying to
- 2:16:11Speaker 22: someone else I am.
- 2:16:15Speaker 12: Ready to scream. This is all a bad dream.
- 2:16:18Speaker 22: And I am beside myself.
- 2:16:22Speaker 3: Who's holding you now? Who's holding you now?
- 2:16:30Speaker 9: Who's holding you now?
- 2:16:58Speaker 26: I'm holding the arms of a stranger It's dangerous the
- 2:17:09Speaker 26: way I'm feeling.
- 2:17:12Speaker 22: So disconnected, so rejected Staring at the ceiling From the
- 2:17:20Speaker 22: side of the bed Remembering things that you said And
- 2:17:24Speaker 22: now you're saying.
- 2:17:25Speaker 12: To someone else I am ready to scream This.
- 2:17:30Speaker 22: Is all a bad dream And I am beside myself
- 2:17:36Speaker 22: Who's holding you now?
- 2:17:46Speaker 12: Now.
- 2:18:01Speaker 6: So, I loved Concrete Blonde, and if we're going back
- 2:18:05Speaker 6: old school, yeah, she's the main reason. I also think
- 2:18:09Speaker 6: there's another guitarist who has such an amazing signature sound
- 2:18:12Speaker 6: of that time period and just what he did so well. So, yeah,
- 2:18:16Speaker 6: I loved all of their stuff back in the day
- 2:18:19Speaker 6: and then, like, hadn't seen much from her or the
- 2:18:22Speaker 6: band or anything in years and then was watching Dead
- 2:18:25Speaker 6: Silence for the show. And that kicks in and it's
- 2:18:28Speaker 6: a song that she co-wrote and is vocals. So, yeah,
- 2:18:32Speaker 6: I was just one that came out of nowhere that
- 2:18:33Speaker 6: I was like, well, this is interesting, mostly just because
- 2:18:36Speaker 6: I love Jeanette and I want to get back into
- 2:18:39Speaker 6: I want more stuff from her.
- 2:18:40Speaker 2: Nice. Yeah, Concrete Blonde, some great songs, of course. They had, like,
- 2:18:44Speaker 2: you know, for anybody that's a fan of any kind
- 2:18:47Speaker 2: of vampires, one of the best vampire-themed songs ever that
- 2:18:52Speaker 2: could have been used for numerous movies.
- 2:18:54Speaker 6: And has yet to be used.
- 2:18:55Speaker 2: And really wasn't, yeah.
- 2:18:57Speaker 6: Bloodletting is amazing. That whole album is phenomenal. That's great. But, yeah,
- 2:19:02Speaker 6: that is, like, the signature song for any goth kid
- 2:19:05Speaker 6: out there. It certainly was at the time, but. still
- 2:19:09Speaker 6: they never got crossover like mainstream. Like they had one
- 2:19:12Speaker 6: song that most people knew. And other than that, nobody
- 2:19:15Speaker 6: knew anything else by them. And then I don't know,
- 2:19:18Speaker 6: they just didn't last long enough to come back around
- 2:19:20Speaker 6: for another, you know, second take at it.
- 2:19:23Speaker 2: Yeah. Cause, um, I, uh, if we may remember of
- 2:19:27Speaker 2: any RPG fans there, uh, it may still be around.
- 2:19:30Speaker 2: I'm not sure, but there used to be a, uh,
- 2:19:31Speaker 2: RPG called vampire, the masquerade. Yeah. That's kind of the,
- 2:19:34Speaker 2: the white wolf game started this whole, uh, franchise with
- 2:19:38Speaker 2: like you know horror monster themed stuff but Vampire the
- 2:19:40Speaker 2: Masquerade was the franchise.
- 2:19:42Speaker 6: Yeah it was hugely popular when it started yeah.
- 2:19:46Speaker 2: I was with a group of people where we would
- 2:19:48Speaker 2: do live action Vampire where like we you know would
- 2:19:51Speaker 2: you know run around the park or run around somebody's
- 2:19:53Speaker 2: house or you know yards like that and we were
- 2:19:55Speaker 2: acting out our characters well before every single game we
- 2:19:59Speaker 2: had to listen to Bloodletting nice yeah so I was
- 2:20:01Speaker 2: like it just got everybody in the mood so I
- 2:20:02Speaker 2: was like yeah it was a great song there but.
- 2:20:05Speaker 6: I like the deluxe version I bought an import single
- 2:20:08Speaker 6: just to get that. It's got this extended intro. It's
- 2:20:10Speaker 6: got these sound effects worked into the background that are
- 2:20:13Speaker 6: super creepy. So yeah, that's an even.
- 2:20:15Speaker 2: Better way to go.
- 2:20:16Speaker 12: Nice.
- 2:20:17Speaker 6: Look for that if you're a gothy dork. All right. Well,
- 2:20:22Speaker 6: we've been through a lot, so we got to round
- 2:20:24Speaker 6: it out. But before that, I wanted to at least
- 2:20:28Speaker 6: some shout outs, if you will. You're lucky that I
- 2:20:31Speaker 6: didn't round out the episode with the one I saw today.
- 2:20:34Speaker 12: Uh-oh.
- 2:20:36Speaker 6: As I was getting the notes ready for this episode,
- 2:20:39Speaker 6: I'm also watching Teen Witch. Which I knew by reputation.
- 2:20:46Speaker 6: Somehow I had never seen it. So I was just like, well,
- 2:20:50Speaker 6: I can't not watch this. I mean, it is legendary.
- 2:20:54Speaker 6: There's not a... girl of a certain age that didn't
- 2:20:57Speaker 6: grow up loving this movie. So I've been told.
- 2:20:59Speaker 12: My wife being one of them. There you go.
- 2:21:01Speaker 6: So I've been told. So yeah, the big scene at
- 2:21:04Speaker 6: the dance at the end.
- 2:21:05Speaker 2: Is Finest Hour. So I could have gone out on
- 2:21:09Speaker 2: some Finest Hour. Not the spookiest of songs, so I
- 2:21:13Speaker 2: thought I'd spare you that.
- 2:21:15Speaker 6: But I enjoyed it more than I expected, actually. It's
- 2:21:18Speaker 6: a pretty standard... made-for-TV, aimed-at-kids kind of a movie, and
- 2:21:24Speaker 6: you didn't get a lot of girl leads at the time, so, like,
- 2:21:28Speaker 6: it was fun.
- 2:21:29Speaker 2: And also in the era of Satanic Panic, to depict a,
- 2:21:33Speaker 2: you know, child with, you know, supernatural abilities as a
- 2:21:37Speaker 2: positive and light character or whatnot, it somehow worked. It
- 2:21:40Speaker 2: was kind of like a Sabrina the Teenage Witch knockoff.
- 2:21:43Speaker 2: But it comes, like, it just becomes your standard high
- 2:21:47Speaker 2: school movie where, like, the dorky kid becomes super cool
- 2:21:52Speaker 2: and then ignores their friend and realizes they've become the thing.
- 2:21:56Speaker 6: They hated most. Like it's so typical, like high school movie.
- 2:22:00Speaker 6: I was like, well, of course she's going to do that.
- 2:22:03Speaker 6: Of course she's not talking to her nerdy friend now.
- 2:22:05Speaker 6: She's super popular. I was like, this is, you can't
- 2:22:09Speaker 6: hate on it. And again, it's a time honored tradition.
- 2:22:12Speaker 6: This is how you make these movies.
- 2:22:14Speaker 12: Of course.
- 2:22:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:22:14Speaker 6: So I didn't go down that road. You're, you're welcome.
- 2:22:18Speaker 6: But I did, there were ones that I had played
- 2:22:20Speaker 6: before that I was like, I've mentioned on many occasions
- 2:22:25Speaker 6: somewhat recently, as we were discussing on the Fright Night episode,
- 2:22:28Speaker 6: I do love the 99 Problems version that they did.
- 2:22:31Speaker 12: Oh, yeah.
- 2:22:32Speaker 6: That I think I always called a cover, but really
- 2:22:35Speaker 6: other than those couple of lines is not really a
- 2:22:38Speaker 6: cover song.
- 2:22:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:22:40Speaker 6: Hugo does their own weird thing that just kind of
- 2:22:43Speaker 6: borrowed from the.
- 2:22:45Speaker 2: pre-existing though the original jay giles has its charm too.
- 2:22:48Speaker 6: That is yeah we were discussing that coming into this
- 2:22:51Speaker 6: episode it was like i forgot that was jay giles
- 2:22:53Speaker 6: but that is a great sound like a jay giles
- 2:22:55Speaker 6: great tie-in for fright night and i do love the
- 2:22:58Speaker 6: song even though it does not sound like jay giles
- 2:23:00Speaker 6: right um the one that i've played maybe the most
- 2:23:03Speaker 6: i i'm pretty sure i played it on the episode
- 2:23:06Speaker 6: i played it on a soundtrack episode years ago it
- 2:23:08Speaker 6: is my go-to for this kind of taking an old
- 2:23:11Speaker 6: timey song and making it fit your creepy thing And
- 2:23:15Speaker 6: this movie's creepy on a couple levels. The theme song
- 2:23:18Speaker 6: at the end of Jeepers Creepers is hush hush here
- 2:23:22Speaker 6: comes the boogeyman. And it is a creepy song mostly
- 2:23:25Speaker 6: because it sounds like a creepy old timey song.
- 2:23:28Speaker 28: Yeah.
- 2:23:28Speaker 6: But if you listen to the lyrics at that point
- 2:23:31Speaker 6: and I went back and like found the year and
- 2:23:33Speaker 6: like it's an old song. So to be as creepy
- 2:23:37Speaker 6: as it is and like as openly you know hey
- 2:23:40Speaker 6: kid this is all about the boogeyman and like it's
- 2:23:43Speaker 6: Very frank, and it's weird. Again, at the time, I
- 2:23:46Speaker 6: guess it depends how far back you go, but before,
- 2:23:49Speaker 6: you know, pre-code days, they did whatever the hell they wanted,
- 2:23:52Speaker 6: and things were creepy if they needed to be. So, yeah,
- 2:23:54Speaker 6: for as old as it is, it is a very
- 2:23:56Speaker 6: creepy song made extra creepy by its attachment to Jeepers Creepers.
- 2:24:01Speaker 2: And they were making Jeepers Creepers creepy already in the
- 2:24:04Speaker 2: movie itself.
- 2:24:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:24:05Speaker 2: You get two old-timey songs for.
- 2:24:07Speaker 6: The price of one. Because Jeepers Creepers is the way
- 2:24:08Speaker 6: it opens, I believe, and then it rounds it out with,
- 2:24:11Speaker 6: you know, here comes the boogeyman.
- 2:24:12Speaker 2: You hear the song a couple times.
- 2:24:14Speaker 6: Yeah, he plays it in his creeper lair.
- 2:24:16Speaker 2: Yeah. And then.
- 2:24:18Speaker 6: Yeah, there is a new one, which I almost got
- 2:24:21Speaker 6: a copy of to watch this weekend and haven't gotten
- 2:24:23Speaker 6: around to it. So I have not decided what I
- 2:24:25Speaker 6: think of this new reboot of Jeepers Creepers.
- 2:24:28Speaker 2: I've been curious. I saw that it existed, so I
- 2:24:32Speaker 2: need to check it out. I'm more interested in the
- 2:24:34Speaker 2: Hellraiser remake than I am.
- 2:24:35Speaker 6: The Jeepers Creepers. I am too.
- 2:24:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:24:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I still want to check that out. So that's true.
- 2:24:39Speaker 2: A couple movies I have to give shout-outs to that
- 2:24:41Speaker 2: weren't initially on my list that are great ending songs.
- 2:24:44Speaker 2: You've got to go with The Lost Boys, the Echo
- 2:24:46Speaker 2: and the Bunnymen cover of People Are Strange. We hear
- 2:24:48Speaker 2: it earlier in the film, but then it also ends
- 2:24:51Speaker 2: the film as well.
- 2:24:52Speaker 6: It is pretty awesome.
- 2:24:54Speaker 2: And it's an amazing cover. There was probably a period
- 2:24:57Speaker 2: of time where people didn't realize that was a cover
- 2:25:00Speaker 2: because the doors are kind of.
- 2:25:03Speaker 2: They had their popularity in the 60s and a little
- 2:25:05Speaker 2: bit in the 70s, and then when the Val Kilmer
- 2:25:07Speaker 2: movie came out in the 90s, All your 90s kids
- 2:25:10Speaker 2: suddenly were Doors fans.
- 2:25:11Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:25:12Speaker 2: And so they got their rise in popularity. But in
- 2:25:14Speaker 2: the 80s, the Doors were probably like almost forgotten by
- 2:25:17Speaker 2: at least the youth culture.
- 2:25:17Speaker 6: That was the lull. And when I was kind of
- 2:25:20Speaker 6: getting into them. Again, I think every teenager, probably every
- 2:25:23Speaker 6: teenage boy gets into that era of like suddenly they
- 2:25:26Speaker 6: discover this Jim Morrison thing. And he's so deep and meaningful.
- 2:25:31Speaker 6: And then you realize he's just a weirdo. He's a
- 2:25:34Speaker 6: drunken rock star. I'm amazed at him for what he
- 2:25:38Speaker 6: brought to the table for being not a trained singer,
- 2:25:41Speaker 6: hadn't even been in a band. He came out of
- 2:25:46Speaker 6: nowhere and then had this... charisma and this voice and
- 2:25:50Speaker 6: like everything that he brought to the table is pretty
- 2:25:52Speaker 6: amazing for somebody who did not set out to do that.
- 2:25:55Speaker 6: So I don't know.
- 2:25:56Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 2:25:56Speaker 6: Points to him.
- 2:25:57Speaker 2: An interesting story.
- 2:25:58Speaker 6: But I do like his inclusion in the Lost Boys
- 2:26:01Speaker 6: because at that point, the main thing most people knew
- 2:26:04Speaker 6: about him was his death and like his mysterious death
- 2:26:08Speaker 6: and his untimely death and like everything about that. So
- 2:26:11Speaker 6: the fact that these vampire kids are, were so like
- 2:26:13Speaker 6: taken with them that they have the giant banner of
- 2:26:16Speaker 6: him in their cave.
- 2:26:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:26:17Speaker 6: That I was like that one, two punch of like
- 2:26:19Speaker 6: putting in a doors cover, having them. And he's like their,
- 2:26:22Speaker 6: their God almost on the wall there that they, you know,
- 2:26:26Speaker 6: pay tribute to the, the rockstar gods of, you know,
- 2:26:29Speaker 6: the olden days.
- 2:26:30Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 2:26:30Speaker 2: The sixties. Exactly.
- 2:26:32Speaker 6: So yeah, I always liked that little inclusion that he
- 2:26:34Speaker 6: is honorary member of the undead. I would say so.
- 2:26:38Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 2:26:39Speaker 2: And then lastly, one song I can't believe I didn't
- 2:26:43Speaker 2: include in my list because it fits so well. And
- 2:26:47Speaker 2: it just, if you're even further familiar with the actor
- 2:26:51Speaker 2: in question here, then it just, it makes it even
- 2:26:55Speaker 2: more beautiful. But the Willard remake that starred Crispin Glover
- 2:27:01Speaker 2: and ends with a cover of the Michael Jackson classic, Ben,
- 2:27:04Speaker 2: sung by Crispin Glover.
- 2:27:07Speaker 6: Oh, Crispin is a musician.
- 2:27:09Speaker 2: In quotations, we will put him as a musical artist, yes.
- 2:27:14Speaker 6: Now that you've thrown it in there, you've already heard it,
- 2:27:17Speaker 6: because I will put it in any chance I get.
- 2:27:19Speaker 6: Our promo with him, I featured a version of him
- 2:27:24Speaker 6: doing These Boots Are Made For Walking, which Don in
- 2:27:28Speaker 6: the style only Crispin Glover could do.
- 2:27:31Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 2:27:32Speaker 6: He's a special, special guy.
- 2:27:34Speaker 2: I mean i'll i'll give some uh some props to
- 2:27:37Speaker 2: ruben and ed that's a charming little film um but
- 2:27:41Speaker 2: um yeah um willard's interesting um it couldn't it i
- 2:27:47Speaker 2: could have gone a little stranger uh with that but
- 2:27:50Speaker 2: in in It was also too bad they used too
- 2:27:52Speaker 2: much CGI in that film.
- 2:27:54Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah. That's many a problem. A lot of movies.
- 2:27:58Speaker 2: But I'm watching this film, and I'm thinking, okay, well,
- 2:28:00Speaker 2: I know there was the Michael Jackson song that came
- 2:28:02Speaker 2: with the OG version. Will they... And that's the funny thing, too.
- 2:28:06Speaker 2: It actually came with the sequel.
- 2:28:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:28:09Speaker 2: Not the original Will.
- 2:28:10Speaker 3: Not the original.
- 2:28:11Speaker 2: It came with the sequel.
- 2:28:12Speaker 11: It's Ben.
- 2:28:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and hence the name, which was also really weird.
- 2:28:16Speaker 2: It's like, okay, so it's a horror movie, and then
- 2:28:18Speaker 2: the sequel is basically... Kind of a horror movie, but
- 2:28:21Speaker 2: it's more of a children's film.
- 2:28:23Speaker 6: And then ends with a love song.
- 2:28:26Speaker 12: Essentially.
- 2:28:26Speaker 2: And ends with a love song to a rat.
- 2:28:30Speaker 6: Very strange.
- 2:28:31Speaker 2: A love song from a boy's perspective to his rat. Okay.
- 2:28:35Speaker 2: But yeah, but then so, but in a great, great
- 2:28:38Speaker 2: bit of stunt casting though, we decided, you know what?
- 2:28:41Speaker 2: We got Chris McGlover here. We got a song about
- 2:28:43Speaker 2: a rat we can do.
- 2:28:45Speaker 6: You know what, Chris? What do you think, buddy?
- 2:28:49Speaker 2: And, uh, Yeah, and we get Crispin Glover covering Michael Jackson.
- 2:28:53Speaker 2: And he does a... He doesn't weird it up or anything.
- 2:28:56Speaker 2: He does a note-perfect cover.
- 2:28:58Speaker 6: Which is not always what he does as... Discussed by... But.
- 2:29:02Speaker 2: Except if you know the guy, if you watch the
- 2:29:07Speaker 2: movie and you hear the songs, it all still is creepy.
- 2:29:11Speaker 2: He doesn't have to be creepy to just still be creepy.
- 2:29:14Speaker 6: It's creepy, but in a different way than you expected.
- 2:29:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you could see he was trying to sound sweet,
- 2:29:20Speaker 2: but it's like, yeah, you're going to kill the rat
- 2:29:22Speaker 2: at the end of the song or what, man? It's like, yeah,
- 2:29:25Speaker 2: you're just... Yeah.
- 2:29:27Speaker 6: Even you trying to sound sweet comes off creepy, dude. Yeah,
- 2:29:30Speaker 6: it really does. It's just kind of how you roll.
- 2:29:31Speaker 2: You know, your biggest song was about clowns.
- 2:29:34Speaker 6: It's terrifying.
- 2:29:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:29:38Speaker 6: The other one, as I was going through, I forgot.
- 2:29:42Speaker 6: I went by. I was like, is that how it ends? Yeah,
- 2:29:44Speaker 6: the Evil Dead goes out with the Charleston.
- 2:29:46Speaker 5: Hmm.
- 2:29:48Speaker 6: The original Evil Day. And I was like, that is
- 2:29:50Speaker 6: a weird move for that movie. And then I was like, well,
- 2:29:53Speaker 6: it was probably in public domain by then because he
- 2:29:55Speaker 6: had no money.
- 2:29:56Speaker 10: Yep.
- 2:29:57Speaker 6: So I was like, yeah, that's probably why it goes
- 2:29:59Speaker 6: out on the Charleston.
- 2:30:00Speaker 2: Well, that movie was so, like, we didn't get into
- 2:30:05Speaker 2: the severe craziness that number two was.
- 2:30:08Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 2:30:09Speaker 2: But number one was pretty gonzo in itself. I feel
- 2:30:11Speaker 2: like it's disturbing. I still stand by that first one
- 2:30:15Speaker 2: as a great horror movie. Oh, yeah.
- 2:30:17Speaker 6: Two and the third become silly comedies almost, but it's
- 2:30:22Speaker 6: not a comedy that first.
- 2:30:23Speaker 2: No, no disturbing.
- 2:30:25Speaker 6: Many of what the different scenarios we have thrown at
- 2:30:28Speaker 6: us are really horrifying.
- 2:30:30Speaker 2: So, and of course a lot of the makeup and
- 2:30:32Speaker 2: the effects that were done in that film are, were
- 2:30:34Speaker 2: so crudely done that they looked disgusting even further because
- 2:30:39Speaker 2: of it.
- 2:30:39Speaker 6: It gave it a realism that you weren't expecting out
- 2:30:42Speaker 6: of this movie.
- 2:30:43Speaker 2: And still, my favorite shot of the entire Evil Dead
- 2:30:47Speaker 2: franchise exists in the original. is when he's looking in
- 2:30:50Speaker 2: the mirror and talking and laughing like that, and then
- 2:30:53Speaker 2: he puts his hand through the mirror and it's water.
- 2:30:55Speaker 2: And it just freaks him the fuck out like that.
- 2:30:58Speaker 2: How on the $ 5 they did, how did they do
- 2:31:03Speaker 2: that shot?
- 2:31:04Speaker 6: Most of that stuff just looks so good. You would
- 2:31:08Speaker 6: not think it for the budget that they had, for
- 2:31:10Speaker 6: how long it's been. It still holds up for me.
- 2:31:13Speaker 6: But again, I have different standards than some, but I
- 2:31:16Speaker 6: think that all still holds up.
- 2:31:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:31:18Speaker 2: To end with a Charleston.
- 2:31:19Speaker 3: That was great, yeah.
- 2:31:19Speaker 6: It's pretty strange.
- 2:31:22Speaker 2: So there are many others. There were a few that
- 2:31:25Speaker 2: I'm like, maybe we'll do another version of this. But
- 2:31:28Speaker 2: I was just trying to find something that had a
- 2:31:30Speaker 2: good way to round it out. And this one is
- 2:31:33Speaker 2: from a movie that it was of an era of
- 2:31:35Speaker 2: Let's Do remakes.
- 2:31:37Speaker 6: And it was not a popular movie at the time.
- 2:31:41Speaker 6: I now, and we've discussed wanting to cover it. So
- 2:31:43Speaker 6: we're probably somewhere down the line going to watch it
- 2:31:46Speaker 6: and do a whole episode on the movie. But also taking, again,
- 2:31:50Speaker 6: trying to be super popular, bringing in popular actors, and
- 2:31:53Speaker 6: then going out on a super popular band. House of
- 2:31:58Speaker 6: Wax ends with Helena by My Chemical Romance. So as
- 2:32:04Speaker 6: I was going through, I was like, well, so long
- 2:32:06Speaker 6: and good night. That's the only way to round this
- 2:32:08Speaker 6: thing out. But yeah, that was one of those, it
- 2:32:12Speaker 6: was that era of like, enough that it, again, That
- 2:32:16Speaker 6: same era of post-April Fool's Day, horror movie fans were
- 2:32:21Speaker 6: just angry for years. The slashers were dying. The things
- 2:32:26Speaker 6: that came to take their place outside of Scream were
- 2:32:29Speaker 6: mostly just cast a bunch of teenagers from popular things
- 2:32:32Speaker 6: that are on TV right now, throw them in usually
- 2:32:35Speaker 6: a remake of something that we really liked. I don't
- 2:32:38Speaker 6: know how many people really saw The House of Wax
- 2:32:40Speaker 6: that said they were horror fans or... 13 Ghosts or
- 2:32:43Speaker 6: House on Haunted Hill, like all of those that came along.
- 2:32:46Speaker 6: It's like, I don't know that they really considered them reverent,
- 2:32:51Speaker 6: but somehow it was a slap in the face the
- 2:32:54Speaker 6: way that they did them, which I don't know. I
- 2:32:56Speaker 6: think some of those hold up all right. Yeah, I mean, definitely.
- 2:32:59Speaker 2: Like in the 2000s era, the early 2000s, your only
- 2:33:03Speaker 2: franchise of note was the Final Destination franchise.
- 2:33:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:33:07Speaker 2: And, I mean, not all those films are great, but
- 2:33:09Speaker 2: some of them are good. And the concept itself. The
- 2:33:11Speaker 2: concept is amazing. Yeah, the concept. Your villain is death itself. Yeah,
- 2:33:15Speaker 2: I was like, that's a great concept.
- 2:33:17Speaker 6: And putting into play, like, any scenario you enter in,
- 2:33:21Speaker 6: you then have to be like, okay, wait, how am
- 2:33:23Speaker 6: I going to die?
- 2:33:24Speaker 2: Like, you start.
- 2:33:25Speaker 6: Playing that game as the characters come into it. And
- 2:33:28Speaker 6: then you carry it over into the real world. Whereas now,
- 2:33:32Speaker 6: I can't tell you how many times I've seen people, like, specifically...
- 2:33:36Speaker 6: send photos as they're on the highway of a log
- 2:33:41Speaker 6: truck to the writer, and they'll be like, dude, I
- 2:33:45Speaker 6: can't see one. You've ruined me. Like, you've messed up
- 2:33:48Speaker 6: my whole life because I can't ride on the highway
- 2:33:50Speaker 6: because this log truck is going to get me in
- 2:33:53Speaker 6: a weird.
- 2:33:54Speaker 2: It's going to break suddenly. The log's going to go
- 2:33:56Speaker 2: through my front windshield. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know.
- 2:33:59Speaker 6: It's just a Goldbergian machine is going to come about
- 2:34:02Speaker 6: that takes me out. And that's how every one of
- 2:34:04Speaker 6: those scenes happens. It's like you enter in and you think, oh,
- 2:34:07Speaker 6: that thing looks pretty deadly. That's probably, nope, this thing
- 2:34:10Speaker 6: over here is going to kill you. So the fact
- 2:34:12Speaker 6: that it created that, yeah, that was the franchise. Those
- 2:34:16Speaker 6: are pretty impressive for what they are. They get ridiculous
- 2:34:20Speaker 6: as well, but the idea is amazing.
- 2:34:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's funny, too, because you've got, like,
- 2:34:26Speaker 2: you know, so many ways people go out that are
- 2:34:29Speaker 2: very typical. You know, somebody dies slipping in the shower.
- 2:34:32Speaker 2: Somebody dies, you know, falling face first on the stove
- 2:34:34Speaker 2: or something. You know, people die in a plane crash.
- 2:34:37Speaker 2: People die in a roller coaster accident. But the one
- 2:34:40Speaker 2: thing of the movies that always we remember is that
- 2:34:43Speaker 2: fucking log truck. And was that the second movie?
- 2:34:46Speaker 6: That's the second movie, yeah. It's not even the original movie.
- 2:34:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's one of the sequels.
- 2:34:49Speaker 6: It's still written by Jeffrey, and he came up with
- 2:34:52Speaker 6: that concept while being stuck in traffic, driving back home
- 2:34:55Speaker 6: to visit mom, I think, and was just like, man,
- 2:34:57Speaker 6: what if that log truck just became one of the
- 2:35:02Speaker 6: most memorable scenes ever?
- 2:35:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so funny. That scene just sticks with you
- 2:35:07Speaker 2: so much, more so than a lot of the others do.
- 2:35:09Speaker 3: Yep.
- 2:35:11Speaker 6: That one, again, to have that kind of impact on
- 2:35:14Speaker 6: people's lives just by making your silly horror movie.
- 2:35:16Speaker 2: That's amazing. And a very typical thing we all see
- 2:35:19Speaker 2: on the roads all the time is those big old
- 2:35:21Speaker 2: log trucks or big semis or whatnot.
- 2:35:23Speaker 6: And it's just waiting there for you.
- 2:35:24Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 2:35:25Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 2:35:27Speaker 6: Much like our impending wrap-up.
- 2:35:30Speaker 9: Indeed.
- 2:35:31Speaker 6: Much like death itself. It's waiting for us somewhere down
- 2:35:35Speaker 6: the line. It's coming for you.
- 2:35:36Speaker 2: All ends are inevitable, including this show.
- 2:35:39Speaker 6: But again, I feel like we skipped a whole bunch.
- 2:35:41Speaker 6: So we can come back and do another round of this.
- 2:35:43Speaker 2: Or we can just do.
- 2:35:44Speaker 6: An overall horror movie one. So we can revisit this territory.
- 2:35:49Speaker 2: I'm sure I can come up with a few more.
- 2:35:52Speaker 2: There was a couple in our last episode that I
- 2:35:54Speaker 2: didn't get to use. That y'all thought were some interesting
- 2:35:57Speaker 2: stories and whatnot. But that's the fun thing too. Some
- 2:35:59Speaker 2: of these songs actually have some fun stories behind them
- 2:36:01Speaker 2: as well.
- 2:36:03Speaker 6: So we can definitely come back to this. Basic idea
- 2:36:06Speaker 6: or even the specific version of it and just get
- 2:36:09Speaker 6: ones we didn't hit.
- 2:36:10Speaker 2: Yeah. But I will definitely give some recommendations since we're
- 2:36:13Speaker 2: in spooky season. For the theaters, I mentioned Barbarian earlier.
- 2:36:17Speaker 2: That's definitely worth checking out. Smile is really good. Great tension. Like,
- 2:36:26Speaker 2: it's more of a supernatural sort of, you know, theme
- 2:36:29Speaker 2: film than a slasher or, you know, monster or anything
- 2:36:32Speaker 2: like that. But it does a great job of building tension,
- 2:36:37Speaker 2: building suspense and atmosphere with not a lot happening. And
- 2:36:41Speaker 2: I can't remember her first name, but Kevin Bacon's daughter
- 2:36:44Speaker 2: is the lead in the film, and her performance is outstanding.
- 2:36:49Speaker 6: Bacon's made quite a few horror-overtoned... Sometimes not out and
- 2:36:55Speaker 6: out horror, but he's done a lot of stuff that
- 2:36:56Speaker 6: borders on horror or edges its way into horror, whether
- 2:37:00Speaker 6: it meant to or not.
- 2:37:01Speaker 2: He's done something like Stir of Echoes.
- 2:37:04Speaker 6: Hollow Man is disturbing on a couple of levels.
- 2:37:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Hollow Man. He's got a new one over there
- 2:37:10Speaker 2: on Peacock, They Them, where it's like a conversion camp
- 2:37:15Speaker 2: or something like that, except everybody's homicidal. But then if
- 2:37:19Speaker 2: you don't want anything that's more horror. You want something
- 2:37:22Speaker 2: that's a little more fun. Disney Plus has got the
- 2:37:26Speaker 2: Marvel Werewolf by Night and I will say if you
- 2:37:29Speaker 2: are not a superhero fan, if you have no desire
- 2:37:32Speaker 2: for any of this stuff, I still highly recommend checking
- 2:37:35Speaker 2: this out. It is done in the traditional kind of...
- 2:37:39Speaker 2: you know, universal monsters kind of feel. It's in black
- 2:37:42Speaker 2: and white, and it is not beholden to anything in
- 2:37:46Speaker 2: the MCU. So if you don't know any, you don't
- 2:37:48Speaker 2: know an Avenger from a Spider-Man from an Iron Man
- 2:37:51Speaker 2: or anybody like that, then you can go in this
- 2:37:53Speaker 2: movie completely ignorant and will enjoy yourself. And it's an
- 2:37:57Speaker 2: isolated thing. It's barely an hour long. So yeah, it's
- 2:38:02Speaker 2: the first in a special presentation that they're going to
- 2:38:04Speaker 2: do where they have these little one-offs i think we're
- 2:38:06Speaker 2: gonna see one later this year with the guardians of
- 2:38:08Speaker 2: the galaxy holiday.
- 2:38:09Speaker 6: Special i kind of like these ideas it's i guess
- 2:38:12Speaker 6: if they didn't have their own platform to do it
- 2:38:15Speaker 6: on these things wouldn't exist so i like that they're
- 2:38:17Speaker 6: kind of making use of that that we can get
- 2:38:18Speaker 6: a holiday special or that we can get like these
- 2:38:22Speaker 6: weird little also almost like again it's like something that
- 2:38:26Speaker 6: wouldn't happen theatrically but now that they have a way
- 2:38:30Speaker 6: to deliver it to people because they're they own everything Yeah,
- 2:38:34Speaker 6: they can bring us these weird little offshoots. I was
- 2:38:36Speaker 6: trying to think. Oh, like the what-ifs. That kind of
- 2:38:40Speaker 6: thing could never really fly as a movie.
- 2:38:43Speaker 4: Right.
- 2:38:43Speaker 6: But in these little smaller bite-sized things, it's pretty cool. So, yeah,
- 2:38:48Speaker 6: I like this.
- 2:38:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's a great way to introduce different sides
- 2:38:52Speaker 2: of the Marvel Universe or new characters or whatnot in
- 2:38:56Speaker 2: fun and creative ways. And this does a great job
- 2:38:58Speaker 2: of introducing basically a trio of Of Marvel, you know,
- 2:39:02Speaker 2: supernatural themed heroes here. But yeah, tons of fun. Great
- 2:39:06Speaker 2: for the Halloween crowd. Of course, I mean, you want
- 2:39:08Speaker 2: to go the Hocus Pocus 2 route, you know, for
- 2:39:10Speaker 2: the family friendly stuff. Sure. But if you want something
- 2:39:12Speaker 2: that's got a little more meat on its bones, but
- 2:39:14Speaker 2: still somewhat safe for maybe the older kids, not the
- 2:39:17Speaker 2: little ones, but maybe the older kids.
- 2:39:18Speaker 6: No.
- 2:39:19Speaker 2: The Werewolf by Night. Highly recommend that one.
- 2:39:21Speaker 26: All right.
- 2:39:21Speaker 6: There's your recommendations. From the fanatic himself. Well, with all that,
- 2:39:26Speaker 6: so long and good night. And I will once again
- 2:39:28Speaker 6: remind you, get a life. We'll provide the soundtrack.
- 2:39:32Speaker 12: We are so far from home.
- 2:40:22Speaker 21: It's a very fast day So long and goodnight So
- 2:40:29Speaker 21: long and goodnight Came a time When every star Fall
- 2:40:37Speaker 21: brought to the tears.
- 2:40:41Speaker 3: Again we are The very hurt you sold.
- 2:40:49Speaker 21: And what you worship From.
- 2:40:53Speaker 3: Every heart you break And like a blade you'll stand
- 2:41:02Speaker 3: While I'm holding on tonight What's the worst thing I
- 2:41:08Speaker 3: can say Since I've been with my state So long
- 2:41:14Speaker 3: and goodnight So long and goodnight So long and goodnight.
- 2:41:59Speaker 9: Thank you.
- 2:42:52Speaker 2: It's a dead man's party over here.
- 2:42:53Speaker 6: Oh, there we go. I think we already worked in our...
- 2:42:57Speaker 6: Last time we worked in our... Oingo Boingo tribute, so
- 2:43:02Speaker 6: we can find another way to get him in there.
- 2:43:03Speaker 6: I feel like that Danny, he's been involved in movies.
- 2:43:09Speaker 2: He's done one or two.
