- 0:14Speaker 2: This is the Best of Stugatz & Company live on
- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Before we get to last night's game and a big
- 0:22Speaker 1: football weekend coming up, I have to update the audience.
- 0:25Speaker 3: I lied to them. It won't be the last time.
- 0:28Speaker 1: But I did say during one of the podcasts that
- 0:30Speaker 1: Israel Gutierrez would be with us today.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I lied. He'll be with us on Monday. OK, so
- 0:35Speaker 3: Izzy is coming back on Monday.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Let's get to last night's game before Bear joins us
- 0:40Speaker 1: here because we have a big college football weekend coming up.
- 0:44Speaker 1: He's been on fire, Mikey. I got to give Bear
- 0:46Speaker 1: credit because people criticize him. Israel criticizes him all the time.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Bear has been on fire recently, has he not?
- 0:54Speaker 4: He's been good. He's the bear.
- 0:55Speaker 5: And when he misses, you don't look a gift horse
- 0:59Speaker 5: in the mouth and then say, hey, that sucked.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Taylor, what were your thoughts last night?
- 1:04Speaker 1: I was surprised to learn earlier today that Mikey is
- 1:08Speaker 1: not a big fan of Josh Allen.
- 1:10Speaker 3: What were your thoughts on last night's game?
- 1:15Speaker 1: That man has nine touchdowns, no turnovers through two games.
- 1:19Speaker 1: He's on pace to score 79 touchdowns this year. He
- 1:23Speaker 1: is overwhelming. That offense is overwhelming. And Detroit's in trouble
- 1:27Speaker 1: because that defense is lousy.
- 1:29Speaker 6: Yeah, so players with nine-plus total touchdowns and zero turnovers
- 1:33Speaker 6: in the team's first two games of a season. 2013,
- 1:35Speaker 6: Peyton Manning, he won the MVP. 2018, Patrick Mahomes, he
- 1:40Speaker 6: won the MVP. And 2026, Josh Allen. There was no
- 1:44Speaker 6: way Buffalo was losing the first game at Highmark Stadium.
- 1:48Speaker 6: And to go even further... There was nobody that was
- 1:50Speaker 6: scoring a touchdown to open that stadium besides Josh Allen.
- 1:55Speaker 6: Josh Allen was always going to rush that first touchdown.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Well, Mikey's upset because he has James Cook on his
- 1:59Speaker 3: fantasy team.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Playing Josh Allen.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Oh, playing against Josh Allen. Taking all your rushing touchdowns.
- 2:09Speaker 6: So the reason why I'm not pressing the panic button
- 2:11Speaker 6: on the Detroit defense yet.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I would.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:15Speaker 6: They're missing their two starting safeties. Like you get Kirby
- 2:18Speaker 6: Joseph back, you get Brian Branch back. Your defense should
- 2:21Speaker 6: theoretically look a lot different. Overall, though, it's not good
- 2:25Speaker 6: because you give up 469 yards in week one to
- 2:28Speaker 6: New Orleans and then Buffalo follows that with 446 yards.
- 2:33Speaker 6: it feels like their offense doesn't matter what their offense does.
- 2:36Speaker 6: They were really never in that game. And for that
- 2:39Speaker 6: game to end as a 10 point game, that might
- 2:42Speaker 6: be the biggest blowout that ended in a 10 point
- 2:44Speaker 6: game I've ever seen in NFL history.
- 2:46Speaker 3: You know, you're right. Put it on the poll. It was.
- 2:52Speaker 3: It was a 10-point blowout.
- 2:53Speaker 6: That game felt like it was 20-plus points to lead
- 2:55Speaker 6: the entire game.
- 2:55Speaker 3: You stopped me dead in my tracks. I had to
- 2:57Speaker 3: think about it, and you were right.
- 2:58Speaker 1: And by the way, thank you for changing my opinion
- 3:01Speaker 1: and having me take Buffalo instead of Detroit last night.
- 3:03Speaker 3: You now get 20% of the pool if I win.
- 3:05Speaker 3: How about that? Yes. Wow. Anyway. Mikey, why don't you
- 3:12Speaker 3: like Josh Allen?
- 3:13Speaker 1: What is the problem? I know he plays in Buffalo.
- 3:15Speaker 1: He plays inside your division. You're a Jets fan. I'm
- 3:17Speaker 1: a Jets fan. I respect the hell out of that guy,
- 3:20Speaker 1: and I like him. I enjoy watching him play, man.
- 3:23Speaker 1: He is one of one, Mikey.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Listen, I respect him and he is really good at football, but.
- 3:29Speaker 5: I have a rule where if you want to be
- 3:32Speaker 5: a tough guy, you could be a tough guy. Baker
- 3:34Speaker 5: Mayfield is a tough guy at quarterback. He's a guy
- 3:36Speaker 5: who's going to put his head down. He's going to
- 3:38Speaker 5: try and run over a linebacker. He's going to get
- 3:40Speaker 5: up and say, come on, hit me harder. You could
- 3:42Speaker 5: be that guy. You could be what I would call
- 3:45Speaker 5: a wimp. Tom Brady was a wimp. Amazing quarterback. But
- 3:49Speaker 5: if you breathed on Tom Brady wrong, he was going
- 3:51Speaker 5: to scream for a flag.
- 3:53Speaker 4: You could be that.
- 3:54Speaker 5: I expect that for most quarterbacks, but you can't be both.
- 3:58Speaker 5: And Josh Allen is constantly running people over and then
- 4:03Speaker 5: complaining for a flag. And it just rubs me the
- 4:06Speaker 5: wrong way. He's one of the biggest floppers. He's one
- 4:09Speaker 5: of the best quarterbacks.
- 4:10Speaker 4: I'm not trying to say he's not good, but come on, man.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Be one of them. Be one or the other.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Don't be both.
- 4:16Speaker 6: Right.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Taylor, do you agree with this?
- 4:19Speaker 2: No.
- 4:20Speaker 3: I love.
- 4:22Speaker 6: If you told me... Thanks for going with me.
- 4:24Speaker 3: On that, Taylor. Why would he? I mean, you're alone
- 4:27Speaker 3: and you deserve to be.
- 4:28Speaker 4: That's fine.
- 4:29Speaker 6: If you told me I could only watch one player
- 4:32Speaker 6: in the NFL for the rest of the time.
- 4:34Speaker 3: It'd be him.
- 4:34Speaker 6: It'd be Josh Allen.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Seriously.
- 4:36Speaker 6: The highlight plays Josh Allen makes... I'm all for it.
- 4:40Speaker 6: And if he's getting preferential treatment from referees because he
- 4:43Speaker 6: deserves it, he is a quarterback. He deserves it because Mikey,
- 4:46Speaker 6: I don't want there to even be a chance that
- 4:48Speaker 6: Josh Allen misses a game because he takes a bad
- 4:52Speaker 6: hit or an illegal dirty hit. So yes, I don't
- 4:55Speaker 6: mind that they're protecting Josh Allen and he's going to
- 4:57Speaker 6: run you over too.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 4: But that's a weird stop right there.
- 5:02Speaker 5: If you're a defensive player and he's running you over
- 5:05Speaker 5: and then the next play you go hit him and
- 5:07Speaker 5: he gets up and he's screaming for a foul or
- 5:09Speaker 5: you don't hit him and he pretends you hit him.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:12Speaker 4: By the way, give that a Google search because he
- 5:13Speaker 4: does that a lot, too.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Then go ahead. And like, what are we even doing?
- 5:17Speaker 4: What what sport are we playing?
- 5:19Speaker 3: Yes. He's a great quarterback.
- 5:21Speaker 1: If I had one player to watch for the remainder
- 5:23Speaker 1: of time, it would be him or it would be
- 5:25Speaker 1: Caleb Williams.
- 5:26Speaker 3: It would be one of those two people. to watch
- 5:28Speaker 3: for the remainder of time. Yeah, Taylor.
- 5:30Speaker 6: When I was watching that game yesterday, and you're getting
- 5:32Speaker 6: started on Thursday Night Football on Prime. It felt like
- 5:36Speaker 6: the Lions didn't know that Josh Allen was a rushing
- 5:39Speaker 6: threat until about halftime.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Weird, yes.
- 5:42Speaker 6: Where every time he's dropping back to pass, it felt
- 5:45Speaker 6: like they kind of had a guy spying, but the
- 5:47Speaker 6: guy spying was like, oh, Josh Allen's a lot slower
- 5:50Speaker 6: than I think he is.
- 5:51Speaker 4: He's not running.
- 5:51Speaker 6: And then Josh Allen would just rush for like 25
- 5:53Speaker 6: yards a carry.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Yeah, he's crazy.
- 5:55Speaker 1: So I know you said you're not concerned yet about
- 5:57Speaker 1: the Lions defense because the safeties are out. You can
- 6:01Speaker 1: have those same concerns about the Bills defense because they
- 6:03Speaker 1: have not been great Through the first two games. The
- 6:06Speaker 1: difference is between the two teams. The Bills have an offense.
- 6:10Speaker 1: They don't care if the defense gives up 30. They'll
- 6:13Speaker 1: score 40. The Lions can't do that every single week offensively.
- 6:17Speaker 1: They've been good offensively. They put up 30-plus points in
- 6:20Speaker 1: each of the games, I believe, but they can't do that. Like,
- 6:23Speaker 1: if you score 30 against the Lions, Jared Goff is
- 6:26Speaker 1: not going to give you a Josh Allen game and
- 6:28Speaker 1: put up 45. The Bills can make those wins, you know,
- 6:31Speaker 1: when they give up 30, 35 points. Those turn into wins.
- 6:34Speaker 1: They've done it twice this season. The Lions were lucky
- 6:37Speaker 1: to win the first game, and they lost last night.
- 6:40Speaker 1: So I would be concerned about the Lions' defense more
- 6:42Speaker 1: than the Bills' defense, only because the Bills' offense is
- 6:45Speaker 1: better than the Lions' offense.
- 6:46Speaker 6: Jared Goff might be the most milquetoast quarterback in the NFL.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Put it on the ball.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Is Jared Goff the most milquetoast quarterback in the NFL?
- 6:55Speaker 3: I think you're right. I'm voting yes.
- 6:57Speaker 6: Because we talk about him like he's a top 10 quarterback.
- 7:00Speaker 6: He's not a top 10 quarterback, but he's somewhere in
- 7:02Speaker 6: that 10 to 15 range.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:04Speaker 3: But he's had a couple of coffees in the top 10.
- 7:06Speaker 3: He has. Like he has.
- 7:07Speaker 1: He's had moments where he's been a top. You consider
- 7:09Speaker 1: him a top 10 quarterback.
- 7:10Speaker 3: No?
- 7:11Speaker 6: It feels like his ceiling is like 13.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:14Speaker 6: And that's as much as I'm willing to budge there.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Really?
- 7:17Speaker 4: And his floor is 16. Yes.
- 7:19Speaker 6: Mikey, 1,000%. Jared Goff lives in the 13 to 16 range.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:24Speaker 6: Because you're watching him play.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 6: And it's unfair to compare jared goff to josh allen
- 7:30Speaker 6: but when a when a play breaks down for josh
- 7:34Speaker 6: allen or lamar jackson or caleb williams they have ways
- 7:37Speaker 6: to extend plays right jared goff's ability to extend plays
- 7:41Speaker 6: is he's just gonna duck his head in his lap
- 7:44Speaker 6: and just go down.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Wait so there's no escapability zero i just well brady
- 7:50Speaker 1: didn't have much either And he was fine.
- 7:52Speaker 6: Yeah, but Brady was a lot better.
- 7:53Speaker 4: But the ball was out. The ball was out with
- 7:55Speaker 4: Tom Brady.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Right. No, I understand it.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Listen, I wasn't trying to make the argument that Jared
- 7:59Speaker 1: Goff is better than Tom Brady.
- 8:01Speaker 3: I'm just saying.
- 8:02Speaker 1: He couldn't move with. So golf, just so I'm clear
- 8:05Speaker 1: on this, you guys, there's a window for golf. He'll
- 8:08Speaker 1: never be rated in your minds higher than the 13th
- 8:11Speaker 1: best quarterback in the NFL, but it'll never be lower
- 8:14Speaker 1: than 16th.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Is that what you're saying?
- 8:16Speaker 6: Yep. That exact window.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Pretty much.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Wait, but do you guys agree that like maybe two
- 8:20Speaker 1: years ago, I think they got to the NFC Championship game.
- 8:25Speaker 3: I can't remember.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Wasn't he considered a top 10 quarterback at one point,
- 8:28Speaker 1: Jared Goff?
- 8:29Speaker 3: He was playing at that level, wasn't he?
- 8:31Speaker 6: He was probably playing at that level, but Jared Goff
- 8:33Speaker 6: is always going to be a quarterback that needs the
- 8:36Speaker 6: perfect situation around him where you give him the best
- 8:39Speaker 6: running back in the NFL with Jameer Gibbs. You give
- 8:42Speaker 6: him one of the best receivers in Amalra St.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Brown.
- 8:45Speaker 5: If you gave Jared Goff another game or two, he
- 8:48Speaker 5: was going to come back to 13 or 16. Like,
- 8:51Speaker 5: at one point, he threw five interceptions in a game,
- 8:54Speaker 5: and you're like, oh, man, he stinks. And then the
- 8:57Speaker 5: next game, he throws for six touchdowns. You're like, oh, man,
- 8:59Speaker 5: he's great. If you just stretch out the timeline a
- 9:02Speaker 5: little bit, it's always going to be 13 to 16.
- 9:04Speaker 1: If you play enough games, he'll always come back to that,
- 9:06Speaker 1: 13 to 16. Water always finds its level. I mean,
- 9:09Speaker 1: he did have 37 touchdowns and 12 interceptions one year.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I mean, it was a couple of years ago.
- 9:14Speaker 3: It was great. It was 4,500 yards. That's a good season, guys.
- 9:18Speaker 3: I'd stop then.
- 9:19Speaker 2: No.
- 9:19Speaker 6: Can I tell you what I'm tired of with this
- 9:21Speaker 6: Detroit Lions team?
- 9:22Speaker 2: What?
- 9:24Speaker 6: Amon Ross St. Brown, he's a great wide receiver. I
- 9:28Speaker 6: am so tired of watching him when the lines are
- 9:30Speaker 6: down by 20 and he makes a catch and he's
- 9:33Speaker 6: doing all his pointing celebrations. He's scoring in this garbage
- 9:37Speaker 6: time and he's doing all his dances. It's like Amon
- 9:39Speaker 6: Ross St. Brown, act like you've been there one time
- 9:42Speaker 6: and stop celebrating when your team is getting their teeth
- 9:44Speaker 6: kicked in by Josh Allen.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I am so focused here. I'm with you on that.
- 9:49Speaker 1: They're garbage touchdowns. They're always garbage touchdowns.
- 9:51Speaker 6: They're garbage yards, yeah.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Yes, but if you're a fantasy owner, you love it.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I am fixated now on Jared Goff, not the place
- 9:57Speaker 1: I thought we'd start today. Over three seasons, Jared Goff had,
- 10:03Speaker 1: you can check the numbers on this.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Okay.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I believe it's 101 touchdown passes against 32 interceptions. I mean,
- 10:11Speaker 1: that's pretty ridiculous. He's a, I feel like he's a
- 10:14Speaker 1: top 10 quarterback of the NFL. But you guys have
- 10:18Speaker 1: them 13 to 16, and you're unwilling to budge. And
- 10:21Speaker 1: I understand that because that's what sports radio is all about.
- 10:25Speaker 1: You have drawn a line in the sand.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gatz and
- 10:29Speaker 2: Company live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific
- 10:34Speaker 2: on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 10:38Speaker 1: We were talking during the break here, and Taylor was
- 10:41Speaker 1: asking how bad do the Lions have to be to
- 10:43Speaker 1: part ways with Dan Campbell?
- 10:45Speaker 3: I believe Taylor, Mikey, I'm not certain.
- 10:47Speaker 1: I believe the reason he was asking that is because
- 10:50Speaker 1: he loves Dan Campbell. And I don't think there is
- 10:52Speaker 1: a record that Dan Campbell can climb to or go
- 10:55Speaker 1: down to in which Taylor could envision a scenario where
- 10:58Speaker 1: he would want to get rid of Dan Campbell if
- 11:00Speaker 1: indeed he owned.
- 11:01Speaker 3: The Detroit Lions. What were you trying to say, Taylor?
- 11:04Speaker 6: My argument was just that some NFL franchises have to
- 11:09Speaker 6: just be content with being Average to good.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Relevant. Relevant. Okay.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Relevant.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Yes.
- 11:16Speaker 6: Before Dan Campbell, they had five winning seasons in 20 years.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:21Speaker 6: Since Dan Campbell, they've had four winning seasons in his
- 11:25Speaker 6: five seasons. This is his sixth season.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:28Speaker 6: If you fire Dan Campbell, if you're Detroit, which is
- 11:30Speaker 6: why I don't think his seat's even lukewarm yet, if
- 11:34Speaker 6: you fire him, you have to be 100% sure that
- 11:37Speaker 6: Dan Campbell is the reason why you're not winning games.
- 11:41Speaker 5: See, every single win that Chicago has with Ben Johnson
- 11:46Speaker 5: and every time that Caleb Williams looks like the quarterback
- 11:49Speaker 5: Stu Gotts thinks he is, it's a mark against Dan Campbell.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:53Speaker 5: Because everybody seems to think that it wasn't Dan Campbell.
- 11:57Speaker 4: Yeah, sure. He was the head coach and he was
- 12:00Speaker 4: he was the face.
- 12:01Speaker 5: But it was Ben Johnson that really brought that Lions
- 12:04Speaker 5: team from the dreck it was to what it what
- 12:08Speaker 5: it became at its height.
- 12:10Speaker 3: And Aaron Glenn, too, right? Who's now with the Jets.
- 12:13Speaker 4: No, I refuse to give him any credit. No, absolutely not.
- 12:19Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 12:20Speaker 6: But the Lions' last playoff win before Dan Campbell was 1992.
- 12:26Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:27Speaker 6: Like, if you fire Dan Campbell.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:30Speaker 6: There's no guarantee the next coach you get is going
- 12:33Speaker 6: to post results similar to Dan Campbell. And history has
- 12:37Speaker 6: shown you that the Lions are more likely to be
- 12:40Speaker 6: a four-win team than be what Dan Campbell does. Even
- 12:44Speaker 6: if Dan Campbell's ceiling is a 12-win team going to
- 12:47Speaker 6: fizzle out in the playoffs, I think that's something that
- 12:50Speaker 6: you just kind of have to accept if you're a
- 12:51Speaker 6: Lions fan.
- 12:52Speaker 1: So he's taking a notoriously bad organization.
- 12:55Speaker 3: He has made them relevant. He has made them good.
- 12:57Speaker 3: I mean, he has made them good players.
- 12:59Speaker 1: They're usually in the playoffs when he is the head coach.
- 13:02Speaker 1: And I think you're kind of right, just based on
- 13:04Speaker 1: the expectations when he got to Detroit.
- 13:06Speaker 3: It kind of reminds me, Mikey, of Rex Ryan and
- 13:09Speaker 3: the Jets.
- 13:10Speaker 1: It's like we were so lousy for so long, and
- 13:13Speaker 1: Rex made us respectable and got us to back-to-back AFC
- 13:17Speaker 1: championship games. And I actually remember thinking and saying the
- 13:20Speaker 1: same things that Taylor is thinking and saying about Dan Campbell.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I want that man to be our head coach for
- 13:26Speaker 1: the remainder of time. Why would I look elsewhere? He
- 13:29Speaker 1: was happy to be the Jets coach. No one's happy
- 13:32Speaker 1: being the Jets coach. He was, and they were good.
- 13:35Speaker 1: And then he had a couple of bad seasons, and
- 13:37Speaker 1: Woody Johnson, of course, got rid of Rex Ryan.
- 13:41Speaker 5: I love Dan Campbell. Let's make sure we understand that.
- 13:44Speaker 5: I love Dan Campbell. But all those stats, I throw
- 13:47Speaker 5: them out the window because all those good things he did,
- 13:50Speaker 5: he did with Ben Johnson. In the one year he
- 13:53Speaker 5: hasn't had Ben Johnson, he didn't make the playoffs. I
- 13:56Speaker 5: think they finished last in the division. With a winning record.
- 13:59Speaker 3: But yes. But last.
- 14:01Speaker 4: Last in the division is last in the division.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Right.
- 14:04Speaker 4: And it didn't make the playoffs. And it doesn't look
- 14:08Speaker 4: good right now.
- 14:09Speaker 5: They won a game because the Saints couldn't pick up
- 14:14Speaker 5: a two-point conversion. And I would just ask you this.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Jared Goff's in his 10th year. If Jared Goff retires
- 14:21Speaker 5: in the next few years, are you giving Dan Campbell
- 14:24Speaker 5: a rookie quarterback to develop?
- 14:26Speaker 4: I'm not.
- 14:27Speaker 6: I don't think you have to give Dan Campbell a
- 14:29Speaker 6: rookie quarterback to develop. You've seen teams like when the
- 14:32Speaker 6: Rams made the trade with Detroit saying, let's go get
- 14:35Speaker 6: an experienced quarterback. You don't have to give Dan Campbell
- 14:38Speaker 6: this rookie quarterback. But I do think Detroit is a franchise.
- 14:43Speaker 6: You just kind of have to ride the ebbs and
- 14:44Speaker 6: the flows that come with being the Detroit Lions.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Right.
- 14:47Speaker 6: And the ebbs with Dan Campbell are going to be
- 14:50Speaker 6: better than the lows with Dan Campbell, I think.
- 14:52Speaker 1: You're just saying you have to ride out here Dan
- 14:54Speaker 1: Campbell and Jared Goff together, right? Because they have both
- 14:58Speaker 1: together made that organization. Now, Mikey's right about Ben Johnson.
- 15:01Speaker 1: I mean, he had his best year, Jared Goff did,
- 15:03Speaker 1: when Ben Johnson was there. But the two of them
- 15:05Speaker 1: together have made, they A, want to be there. B,
- 15:08Speaker 1: they have made that organization a lousy one.
- 15:11Speaker 3: They have made it respectable. That's it.
- 15:13Speaker 6: And before I said I wasn't worried about the defense,
- 15:16Speaker 6: and to an extent I'm not, because I do think
- 15:18Speaker 6: they need Kirby Joseph and Brian Branch back in that secondary.
- 15:22Speaker 6: The number one sign that your defense is bad, It's
- 15:25Speaker 6: not how many points you give up. It's not how
- 15:26Speaker 6: many yards you give up. It's the fact that Keon
- 15:29Speaker 6: Coleman on the Bills looked good last night.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Put it on the poll.
- 15:35Speaker 4: DJ Reed did not.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Yes, is that a sign your defense is bad if
- 15:38Speaker 1: Keon Coleman looked good against you? Because I think you're right.
- 15:44Speaker 1: I did not think we would discuss the Lions this much.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Dan Campbell, Jared Goff, and the Lions who lost last
- 15:50Speaker 1: night's game.
- 15:51Speaker 3: That much.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I mean, because Buffalo was overwhelming and that should be
- 15:54Speaker 1: the story today, but it's not.
- 15:56Speaker 5: No, because Buffalo is overwhelming. They have been for two games.
- 16:00Speaker 5: They're really good. Josh Allen is, is likely walking to
- 16:04Speaker 5: an MVP. Like that's yay.
- 16:06Speaker 4: We get it. They're really good. But my question is
- 16:09Speaker 4: what are the lions?
- 16:10Speaker 5: Hmm.
- 16:11Speaker 6: The only observation that I have yesterday about the Buffalo
- 16:14Speaker 6: bills that I still haven't gotten off yet.
- 16:16Speaker 3: They're one in one, by the way.
- 16:17Speaker 6: Yeah. The Buffalo bills are two and oh. The Lions
- 16:20Speaker 6: are 1-1.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Mikey asked the question, what are the Lions? I said
- 16:23Speaker 3: they're 1-1.
- 16:23Speaker 6: It's a bad 1-1, though. I think we could all
- 16:25Speaker 6: agree it's a bad 1-1.
- 16:26Speaker 4: It's a bad 1-1.
- 16:27Speaker 3: It's the rare 1-1 that should be 0-2, okay? That's
- 16:29Speaker 3: what it is, yes.
- 16:32Speaker 6: When you're watching Buffalo and you're watching Dalton Kincaid, if
- 16:36Speaker 6: you start to squint, Dalton Kincaid is starting to look
- 16:39Speaker 6: a little like Travis Kelsey out there, like prime Travis Kelsey.
- 16:43Speaker 6: When Buffalo drafted Dalton Kincaid, I think this is what
- 16:46Speaker 6: they kind of envisioned him developing next to somebody like
- 16:49Speaker 6: Josh Allen.
- 16:50Speaker 3: But you have to squint.
- 16:51Speaker 6: Yeah, you have to squint.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Okay.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Taylor, I was asking Mikey this before, and Mikey, I'm
- 16:57Speaker 1: going to ask you again. I think Josh Allen means
- 16:59Speaker 1: more to his city and his organization than than anyone.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Currently in sports. And then I was thinking about it
- 17:06Speaker 3: on the drive in.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I would tell you that he would rival Derek Jeter
- 17:10Speaker 1: in terms of all time in any sport where a
- 17:13Speaker 1: guy means so much to a market, to an organization.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Josh Allen, to me, is the clear number one. Lamar
- 17:19Speaker 1: Jackson is a close second, by the way, in Baltimore.
- 17:22Speaker 1: He means a lot to that city. He means a
- 17:24Speaker 1: lot to that organization. That city, those fans, they love
- 17:27Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson. But we were only talking about current teams
- 17:31Speaker 1: when I brought it up. And now I'm thinking all time.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I'm not certain there's an athlete who has meant more
- 17:36Speaker 1: to a small city like Buffalo to an organization than Josh.
- 17:41Speaker 3: They love Josh Allen and they should.
- 17:45Speaker 1: And I'm not certain any athlete has ever been more
- 17:47Speaker 1: important to its market than Josh Allen is to that market.
- 17:52Speaker 5: See, if you're if you're going to do that, then
- 17:54Speaker 5: I don't think you can include someone like Derek Jeter
- 17:56Speaker 5: because the city.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Is just too big. Maybe it's too big of a
- 17:59Speaker 4: town and all that.
- 18:01Speaker 5: Jalen brunson might have an argument but if you're going
- 18:04Speaker 5: all time what about aaron rogers to green bay.
- 18:07Speaker 1: That's pretty good i mean it is far of also
- 18:10Speaker 1: right at the time yeah yes without knowing what would
- 18:12Speaker 1: happen after his career yeah.
- 18:15Speaker 5: I mean when they were there i don't think you
- 18:17Speaker 5: could make the argument that they weren't just as important
- 18:21Speaker 5: and the difference is both of those guys did bring
- 18:24Speaker 5: home a.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Lombardi so i think what you're saying here it has
- 18:27Speaker 1: to be a smaller market is that.
- 18:29Speaker 4: Fair To mean that much, to be that involved, yes.
- 18:32Speaker 5: Because, I mean, Derek Jeter in New York, it's just
- 18:35Speaker 5: too big of a market with too many fan bases
- 18:38Speaker 5: pulled in different directions.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:39Speaker 6: What do we think about Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City? No?
- 18:43Speaker 5: Hmm.
- 18:46Speaker 4: I think Travis Kelsey might steal some of his thunder.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Well, not only that.
- 18:50Speaker 4: I think Travis Kelsey pulled a little bit from that.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Not only that, the Chiefs have a storied history. They've
- 18:55Speaker 1: had good players before. The Bills were so bad for
- 18:59Speaker 1: so long. I mean, they had Kelly and that run
- 19:01Speaker 1: of four straight Super Bowls where they didn't win.
- 19:03Speaker 3: But for the most part, they're the Buffalo Bills.
- 19:06Speaker 1: And now they have, listen, win or lose, if they
- 19:08Speaker 1: don't make it to the Super Bowl, they can hold
- 19:10Speaker 1: up this shiny object at quarterback and be like, yeah,
- 19:13Speaker 1: but we got this dude.
- 19:14Speaker 3: And it's fun having that dude. And that dude means
- 19:16Speaker 3: a lot to that city. He does.
- 19:18Speaker 6: To that point, Taylor.
- 19:23Speaker 5: If you were to ask everybody in buffalo who their
- 19:25Speaker 5: favorite buffalo bill is 99.9 of them are going to
- 19:29Speaker 5: say josh allen yeah you ask everybody in kansas city
- 19:31Speaker 5: who their favorite chief is yes i'll bet you're going
- 19:33Speaker 5: to get closer to a 50 50 not quite 50
- 19:36Speaker 5: 50 between travis kelsey and patrick.
- 19:39Speaker 1: You'll get a ton of my homes you'll get some
- 19:41Speaker 1: kelsey but you'll get guys who played 25 30 years
- 19:44Speaker 1: ago because kansas city has been consistent and.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Good for a long time that's all i'm saying.
- 19:48Speaker 6: If that's a standard if you go to the NBA
- 19:51Speaker 6: I think Giannis had this effect in.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Milwaukee where 100% perfect where.
- 19:55Speaker 6: Giannis dominated that market he brought them a title and
- 19:58Speaker 6: then the other one in the NBA Steph Curry to the.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Bay Area definitely but Bay Area big that's Mikey's point
- 20:04Speaker 1: San Francisco the Giants the Niners um Man, I'm trying
- 20:08Speaker 1: to think NBA now. And he's right because Brunson, even
- 20:12Speaker 1: as popular as he is in New York, it's still
- 20:14Speaker 1: New York.
- 20:15Speaker 3: It's hard, right? Go ahead.
- 20:17Speaker 5: Are we missing the obvious one in the NBA?
- 20:19Speaker 4: LeBron in Cleveland?
- 20:20Speaker 3: No, I think Shea in Oklahoma City. I mean, right?
- 20:25Speaker 3: They won a title.
- 20:26Speaker 4: LeBron. LeBron in Cleveland.
- 20:28Speaker 3: LeBron in Cleveland.
- 20:29Speaker 4: To start his career. Come on. Yes. We're done.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Yes. Yeah. No, that's good. It's a good one. I'm
- 20:37Speaker 3: trying to think of hockey. I'm trying to think of
- 20:38Speaker 3: any other sport.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I mean, I guess it's tough in baseball, right?
- 20:43Speaker 3: It's tough in baseball.
- 20:46Speaker 1: How about, well, who would you say in hockey, the
- 20:48Speaker 1: guy who meant the most to his organization is, In hockey.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Is Edmonton, Gretzky to Edmonton?
- 20:55Speaker 4: Edmonton.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess.
- 20:56Speaker 4: But if you want to do baseball, how about Pete
- 20:58Speaker 4: Rose and Cincinnati?
- 21:00Speaker 3: That's a pretty good one.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Like if you ask Red fans, who's your favorite Cincinnati
- 21:04Speaker 1: Red of all time?
- 21:06Speaker 6: Joe Morgan. Johnny Bench.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Oh. The big red machine.
- 21:12Speaker 6: Sean Casey.
- 21:14Speaker 3: The mayor. What am I doing?
- 21:21Speaker 6: Just naming reds.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Aaron Boone.
- 21:24Speaker 6: Booty.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Brandon Phillips.
- 21:28Speaker 6: Pokey Reese.
- 21:29Speaker 3: He's missing still.
- 21:32Speaker 4: Ken Griffey Jr.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Which market?
- 21:36Speaker 4: Cincinnati.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Well, Seattle.
- 21:38Speaker 5: Just naming random reds. I stopped doing the other thing
- 21:41Speaker 5: a long time ago. I'm just trying to name all
- 21:43Speaker 5: the reds I can.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Dave Concepcion. How about that? You got any more? I
- 21:53Speaker 3: think I'm out.
- 21:54Speaker 6: Tony Perez.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Ah, Tony Perez. Hall of Famer, Tony Perez. I want
- 21:59Speaker 3: to stay on this all day. Just name random Cincinnati Reds. Oh, God.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Aaron Horang. Oh, wow. That guy, he was great. I mean, Horang,
- 22:11Speaker 3: he could win you 15.
- 22:11Speaker 4: Was he great?
- 22:12Speaker 3: Well, no, he was great from this standpoint.
- 22:14Speaker 1: That guy can win you 15 games and look like
- 22:16Speaker 1: a Cy Young award winner, but he'll also lose you
- 22:19Speaker 1: 14 games and look like the.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Worst pitcher in baseball. All in the same season.
- 22:23Speaker 5: I can feel Ricardo vibrating next to Taylor because he.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Wants to just jump in on them.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Jose Rio. How about that?
- 22:30Speaker 6: Aaron Horang's career stats. Yeah. He was 128 and 143.
- 22:34Speaker 3: That's what I'm talking about. Yes.
- 22:37Speaker 1: He would go on like 10 game stretches where he
- 22:39Speaker 1: looked like the greatest pitcher in the history of baseball.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And then he would go on 10 game stretches where
- 22:44Speaker 1: he would erase all of that.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Yeah. I'm still trying to think of small markets.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Kyle Loesch.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Oh, Kyle Loesch.
- 22:57Speaker 4: He's another one.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Look up his win and loss totals.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I guarantee you it's right around 500 for Kyle Loesch.
- 23:06Speaker 6: Kyle Loesch, 147 and 143.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gatz and
- 23:14Speaker 2: Company live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Pacific.
- 23:21Speaker 1: All right, thanks to Eric Morris. Thanks to the Bear
- 23:23Speaker 1: for joining us today. Guys, we have two trips to make.
- 23:25Speaker 1: We're not going to make either of them, are we?
- 23:27Speaker 1: I mean, we have one to Stillwater.
- 23:30Speaker 4: You're hurting. Taylor might.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Why are you saying no so quickly? Because you know me?
- 23:37Speaker 5: Because I've worked with you for years, and I just–
- 23:41Speaker 5: I could have told you the question was coming to
- 23:43Speaker 5: him about us going to Stillwater, and I could have
- 23:45Speaker 5: told you that we would never actually make that trip.
- 23:47Speaker 3: If Taylor's in, I'm in. I'm in for Memphis, and
- 23:50Speaker 3: I am in for Stillwater, Oklahoma.
- 23:52Speaker 2: I am.
- 23:52Speaker 3: I'll go to both places. Okay. Yes, I am in.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Very well.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Can you look at Oklahoma State's schedule and identify the
- 24:00Speaker 1: next game we would want to go to?
- 24:02Speaker 3: If you don't mind, I'm going to.
- 24:03Speaker 4: Go, Mike.
- 24:03Speaker 3: What do you mean? No, I won't.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Wow.
- 24:06Speaker 6: I found it.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Really?
- 24:07Speaker 6: So Thursday, October 22nd.
- 24:09Speaker 3: He loves the Thursday games because it doesn't get in
- 24:12Speaker 3: the way.
- 24:13Speaker 4: I do love a Thursday game.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Okay.
- 24:15Speaker 6: What?
- 24:15Speaker 3: Two birds, one stone?
- 24:16Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 24:17Speaker 2: What?
- 24:18Speaker 6: Thursday, October 22nd, we go to Memphis hosting ECU. And
- 24:23Speaker 6: then that Saturday, we go to Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State
- 24:27Speaker 6: is hosting, wait for it, Prime, Deion Sanders in Colorado.
- 24:32Speaker 3: I'm there. I mean.
- 24:34Speaker 3: It'd be a better game if Dion was playing in it.
- 24:39Speaker 6: Yes, we rented RV and we road tripped from Memphis
- 24:42Speaker 6: to Stillwater, Oklahoma.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Wait, so we hop on a bird from here.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Well, Mikey's in Connecticut, but Taylor, you and I, we
- 24:48Speaker 1: hop on a bird to Memphis and then we're in
- 24:49Speaker 1: an RV from Memphis to Stillwater, Oklahoma?
- 24:52Speaker 6: Yep. Let's see how far that drive is. Seven hours.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Yes. And how far? Seven hours.
- 24:57Speaker 4: And you have Friday to do it.
- 24:59Speaker 2: All day.
- 25:00Speaker 3: And how long is the flight?
- 25:02Speaker 6: To Memphis?
- 25:02Speaker 3: Yeah. From Memphis to Oklahoma City.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Memphis to Stillwater.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Yeah. I'm thinking about meeting you guys there is what
- 25:09Speaker 3: I'm trying to say.
- 25:10Speaker 6: It's got to be a quick trip on the bird.
- 25:13Speaker 6: It's a five and a half hour flight because you've
- 25:14Speaker 6: got to connect.
- 25:15Speaker 2: What?
- 25:16Speaker 6: Not too many people are flying. Crazy to think, but
- 25:20Speaker 6: not too many people are flying direct from Memphis to Stillwater, Oklahoma.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Understood. I don't connect, though.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I'm telling you, I will drive to the closest city,
- 25:28Speaker 1: to the closest major airport, and drive the rest of
- 25:30Speaker 1: the way.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Listen, how come we're not talking PJs here? How come
- 25:34Speaker 4: we're not talking PJs here?
- 25:35Speaker 3: I don't know. But I'm only taking off once, and
- 25:37Speaker 3: I'm only landing once in one day. That is the deal.
- 25:41Speaker 3: What do you mean PJs? What are you talking about
- 25:43Speaker 3: PJs for? What am I leaving out? I don't know.
- 25:46Speaker 4: Private jet.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Oh, Jesus. Well, that's what I was thinking. For me.
- 25:56Speaker 3: And you.
- 25:57Speaker 5: I guarantee you that flight isn't five and a half
- 25:59Speaker 5: hours on a PJ.
- 26:00Speaker 3: It's a lot faster.
- 26:04Speaker 1: But I think Taylor likes the idea of trekking across
- 26:06Speaker 1: the country.
- 26:07Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, I love it. I love it.
- 26:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I love the idea of an RV.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Of the three of us, who would be the driver?
- 26:13Speaker 3: I mean, it's me.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Why?
- 26:15Speaker 4: He looks the most driver.
- 26:18Speaker 3: And I'll be too high?
- 26:20Speaker 4: It's not you. We know that. It's not you. You're
- 26:23Speaker 4: a passenger princess to the nth degree.
- 26:25Speaker 5: Yes.
- 26:26Speaker 3: All right.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Are we committing to this? Are we committing to a Memphis? God,
- 26:30Speaker 1: how am I going to get this one past the white?
- 26:32Speaker 4: Send me my ticket.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Send me my ticket. Memphis on Thursday. Friday, we're driving
- 26:36Speaker 1: to Stillwater, and we're going to an Oklahoma State.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Game against Colorado on Saturday. I'll see you on Sunday. Oh, boy,
- 26:44Speaker 3: she'll be happy at this point. She would. Let's go
- 26:46Speaker 3: to the polls here, Taylor.
- 26:49Speaker 1: This is how we wrap up the week every week.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Good week of poll questions.
- 26:53Speaker 1: I was doing an interview in San Francisco earlier today,
- 26:57Speaker 1: and all they did was read the poll questions and
- 26:59Speaker 1: ask me about them.
- 27:01Speaker 6: Big one to start.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:03Speaker 6: Does Sean McDermott find a way to lose that game?
- 27:07Speaker 4: Absolutely does.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:08Speaker 3: He does.
- 27:09Speaker 6: Now that was the Texans game.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:11Speaker 3: This is going back to the Texans game.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Not last night.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Although last night, maybe.
- 27:17Speaker 4: Sean McDermott wins that game.
- 27:18Speaker 6: Yeah. He runs it up, I guess, against that Detroit defense.
- 27:22Speaker 4: You're right.
- 27:22Speaker 3: The answer is yes to the first game.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Yes.
- 27:24Speaker 6: 93% of the audience said yes. Sean McDermott is 0-1
- 27:29Speaker 6: after week one.
- 27:30Speaker 3: All right, next one.
- 27:31Speaker 6: Could you rush for 1,000 yards if you had Patrick
- 27:34Speaker 6: Richard leading the way?
- 27:35Speaker 3: Taylor said that.
- 27:36Speaker 1: If he played at North Carolina and Richard was his fullback,
- 27:39Speaker 1: he would have ran for 1,000 yards if he played
- 27:41Speaker 1: running back.
- 27:41Speaker 6: And I'd be in the NFL.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Yep.
- 27:42Speaker 6: Wow.
- 27:46Speaker 4: I'll meet you at 1,000 yards, all right?
- 27:48Speaker 3: I won't meet him at 1,000.
- 27:49Speaker 4: That's where I get out.
- 27:50Speaker 3: I won't meet him at 1,000 yards. That's where I
- 27:51Speaker 3: get out.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Yes, I will not meet him there. But I'm certain
- 27:54Speaker 1: the audience will meet him there.
- 27:55Speaker 3: What'd they say?
- 27:56Speaker 6: 74% of the audience said, yeah, they think they could
- 27:59Speaker 6: rush for 1,000 yards.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Right, because it's funny.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Yes.
- 28:01Speaker 4: 26% doesn't know ball.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Yeah, but 74% knows funny. That's good.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Yes.
- 28:09Speaker 6: The LaFleurs clearly have a favorite son.
- 28:12Speaker 3: They do.
- 28:14Speaker 6: Overwhelming results here.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Do you think the LaFleurs, when they were sitting there,
- 28:18Speaker 1: they were like, hey, the one that's not coaching the
- 28:21Speaker 1: Packers is going to be 1-0 and the one coaching
- 28:24Speaker 1: the Packers.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Is going to be 0-1?
- 28:26Speaker 4: There's no way.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Yeah. There's no way. No.
