- 0:19Return to Glory podcast. Hunters are but to keep off the road to go
- 0:22to Free Tay. What do we want to talk about here today? Boys,
- 0:26season's over. The basketball, get into it the basketball. We can
- 0:34go there, or we can we can start with the Lady Huskar volleyball team
- 0:39clinching the number one overall spot. Did drop got swept by Wisconsin on Friday?
- 0:46I wasn't I wasn't gonna mention it, but and the soccer team lost,
- 0:51so it was it was a little rough rough spell there. Yeah,
- 0:54Friday could have had not happened. I think going to b y us coach
- 0:58being the biggest dumbass in the world. God hate that guy, Dak,
- 1:02Dak, you better explain that to people, because no one's really what's going
- 1:06on here. I think I was the only one in America watching the Oklahoma
- 1:08State BYU game. But anyway, so if Oklahoma State would have lost,
- 1:12Oklahoma got the Big Oil Championship game rematch against Texas beat their ass again.
- 1:18So it's fourth to one on the fifty yard line, by is up.
- 1:22B Y is up by three. You know what the dumb ass does,
- 1:25punts it and of course Oklahoma State goes down scores, wins, you're five
- 1:30and six, play a ship, Dak. I'd love to have your problems
- 1:37right now, you know, being upset about not making a conference turner conference
- 1:41championship game the last one too, so you can be the championship game then
- 1:48Texas and Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State didn't make it, Okay, that'll be
- 1:57well, uh yeah, we can talk Ihowa if we want. I will
- 2:00say to me, my mind has gone very much onto season long review in
- 2:13the next year already just because of the way the game ended and everything that
- 2:17comes with it. But we will we will save a lot of those comments,
- 2:22expectations, thoughts here for our midweek episode this week. But do you
- 2:27want to talk about the Iowa game here a little bit? And then do
- 2:29you want to spend some time here talking about Nebraska basketball being seven and oh
- 2:32for the first time since nineteen ninety two? Any three? Something like that?
- 2:39Not sure? So Huscar football lose is to Iowa last second field goal
- 2:47by a backup kicker thirteen to ten. Is another one of those games that
- 3:00to meet speechless but at the same time like not surprised, but then also
- 3:07angry, like you do want to say, oh my god, why does
- 3:13this keep happening? Right? Why? Why? Whatever? In the the
- 3:17Nebraska football curse, the one scorer losses, all this stuff, Yes,
- 3:23and people say, yes, it takes time to learn how to win.
- 3:25And I also agree with that. And a lot of these guys were have
- 3:30not won many games. They're part of teams that have lost a lot of
- 3:32games. And you can nitpick play here, play there. The bottom line
- 3:38is what the score and what the score on the scoreboard says at the end
- 3:40of the game. And we lost another Here's my question. I guess with
- 3:47all of that, at what point, how long does it take to learn
- 3:52to win? What does that mean? Is it? Is it? Yeah?
- 3:54It's a process, right, rules very process based. What does that
- 3:58mean? And the Iowa game was another example of losing in a quote unquote
- 4:01different way, right, and talk about situational football and what rule decides to
- 4:06do. I'll echo what I said last week. I think I think the
- 4:12medium and the fans got to it. I just I just think that the
- 4:15decision making of what was happening late in the game again that I don't know
- 4:20if that's truly him or is it or is there a lot of questioning going
- 4:25on their late games. I'm not saying that's the sole reason why I've lost,
- 4:29but that was where my head was at immediately following the game. I
- 4:38guess my head, I mean, the falling game is like it just it
- 4:41straight up takes talent to lose that way so many times. Like it's it's
- 4:46impressive. It really is. Like I I went over because I was watching
- 4:49the game the in laws in Kansas, and obviously I was pretty much the
- 4:54only one watching this game, and no one really cared. And you know,
- 4:59two men's left, we just intercepted the ball or I don't remember,
- 5:03it was under two minutes we intercepted the ball, and it's like, hey,
- 5:06you know, you guys, well gotta get fifteen more yards and feel
- 5:10good. You should be feeling pretty good. It's like I don't think you
- 5:12understand. I don't. I don't think you understand what's not to happen here.
- 5:17It's just impressive, it really is. I'm awestruck. You know,
- 5:24you're you're all sad and frustrated, and I was just in awe. I
- 5:26couldn't believe that, Like wow, that's I'm like past that point though,
- 5:30because like it's happened so much like, I am in awestruck, but I'm
- 5:33like, it's not so much awswared. What happened is the fact that it
- 5:36keeps happening. If that makes Yeah, it's incredible. You're probably speachs because
- 5:43you can't even feel your face by that point it's so cold. Oh,
- 5:46I wasn't at the game, you know what. I dressed very warm for
- 5:50the game. I was very I wouldn't even say its overdressed. I was
- 5:54perfect. I really didn't get too cold during the game, And I thought
- 5:58the environment was pretty pretty impressive for the circumstances of that game. But it
- 6:04was it was a big game, and yeah it was cold and black Friday,
- 6:12but it had big implications obviously for going to a ball game. That
- 6:15is very very important. I mean, talk about the one of the most
- 6:18important things this year. At the beginning of the year, we needed to
- 6:21make a ball game. And then there was anyone interested, Like we went
- 6:27against five and seven. We have already been ruled out, Minister before us.
- 6:30There's only one one team that won five and seven. Team that was
- 6:33UH Minnesota that jumped in. So yeah, we aren't going to to watch
- 6:39them. The season's over and obviously the ball game is important. But when
- 6:45we're five and three after October right like that is, there was a lot
- 6:49of talk, including us, about all the one out how it could play
- 6:57out. We just needed to win one more game and we didn't do that
- 7:00and the fact that that happened again is very disappointing and it's frustrating to me
- 7:09the future of this Matt Real program. I think that it doesn't end it,
- 7:13so it doesn't destroy it, but it does. It takes a step
- 7:15back because you're missing additional time to build your culture, your program, your
- 7:21process, all that stuff that he talks about. We're getting there, you
- 7:24know. Well, yes, same language, guys that we've heard with Scott
- 7:28Frost. I get it. It's very different. I'm not saying that we're
- 7:30there, coach Ruler. We are with Frost, but that extra month,
- 7:34month and a half is huge and we didn't get that done. And that
- 7:39is it might be a relief, I guess, because it's so frustrating Husker
- 7:43football fan, but no, it was needed this year like that needed to
- 7:46happen, and that's why these last four games are so freaking important. And
- 7:49it felt like we took a step back by the end of the year,
- 7:55it felt like we were a step ahead of where we expected the rebuild to
- 7:58be at at the three quarters of the two quarters of the two thirds of
- 8:03the way through the season. That was the issue. It's like, oh,
- 8:05okay, we've already made this leap. Not I shouldn't say, but
- 8:09we've already We've already taken that step to where like, Okay, we're gonna
- 8:13be competitive in all of our games and we're gonna win the games we should.
- 8:16We we quote unquote found the ways to win, like we found a
- 8:20week we learned how to beat Northwestern in Illinois, like we can win those
- 8:24games. And granted, Wisconsin Iowa maybe are a little bit better than those
- 8:30teams, but I don't know the Maryland, Michigan State are. And it
- 8:33felt like for what we thought we learned, we took that step back again
- 8:39of now, okay, now do we know how to win again? I
- 8:43don't know. It was a fitting way for the seniors to end their career
- 8:46for I don't know what seniors there are I guess that are leaving, but
- 8:52it was Yeah, it was a bummer, big bummer, Big Dak.
- 8:56If you were the head coach of Nebraska, what would you have done differently
- 8:58on Briday? Oh boy, you know I would have Okay, first thing
- 9:07I would have done again, For the love of God, can you run
- 9:11the well, the scene's over now, but run the fucking option. Jesus
- 9:15Christ, once again? Not once again. I'm sitting there. I'm sitting
- 9:20there with everybody. I watch it with all Husker fans, and we're sitting
- 9:22there like, why do they not run the option at all? I get
- 9:26Bertie's guy, he's growing whatever the hell's are on them, but not one
- 9:30time, and they've ran up the gut every single time, Like what do
- 9:33you do? I do think the option involves a lot of decision making by
- 9:39your quarterback, and regardless of if it works, sometimes I think that does
- 9:46put more thinking into our quarterback's hands. I think we know what happens when
- 9:50that is done with whoever the quarterback was this year, I will say at
- 9:56the end of the game, there wasn't really like a moment where it was
- 9:58like that was a obvious dumb decision. I don't really remember a moment in
- 10:05the game like in the past game where it's like, well, what the
- 10:07heck are we doing? I didn't really have that moment outside of wasn't there
- 10:13wasn't there a time out situation beginning of the first half, so I can't
- 10:16remember. I was kind of mad about I was kind of like, what
- 10:18do you had to take a time out because we ran out? We ran
- 10:22out our kicker late or something. Yeah, there was something there, and
- 10:24I think we were just gonna try to draw off sides anyways. Yeah,
- 10:28I think there's a little something there. And then I mean, I guess
- 10:31that last drive, like the decision to throw it, I get we were
- 10:37trying to again play a little bit aggressive. I still wanted to go to
- 10:41overtime, but then I also caught myself. I'm like, well, we
- 10:43don't win it overtimes. Maybe we do want to try to win this now,
- 10:46right, And we only had to get in field goal Like I think
- 10:48they just wanted to move it up to field goal range. Wasn't say on
- 10:50a field goal range. I think they would have been conservative. Yeah,
- 10:54and it was a perfectly designed defensive play with the linebacker just literally stunting and
- 11:01jumping. I mean he was sitting right there and Hubba didn't obviously see him
- 11:03at all. But to me, what it comes down to there guys coming
- 11:07down to win the game, you gotta make the field goal with five minutes
- 11:09to go to go up three, and once again that place goes nuts and
- 11:13I was not fucking scoring the ball. They're not going to but you failed.
- 11:18That momentum shifts again, all right, and then what happens. We
- 11:22saw what happened. So the combination of a lot of little things, just
- 11:28like the Wisconsin game that I think added up, and you don't. You
- 11:31don't get a win on one thing I've liked doing, and maybe you get
- 11:37done the same thing. I know, Dak, you've shared this with us,
- 11:39but you have to give a shout out to two four to seven Huskers
- 11:43because that's been a very very nice way on Twitter to get a recap of
- 11:46press conferences, game notes, just key points, and they've done a really
- 11:50good job of summarizing it. So, I mean rules press conference. I
- 11:54thought following the game was very He was defeated. He he had defeat in
- 12:01his tone, as he probably should end of the year, like you know,
- 12:09hate the hate the way that it ended. Had our chances down the
- 12:11stretch weren't able to make it happen. Obviously, need to go back and
- 12:15watch the tape talked about the turnovers again and the number of close losses and
- 12:22and losing by field goals, Like to me, it's all stuff that we
- 12:26know. And the whatever right fully said, the question is going to be
- 12:37how are we going to fix it? And that's exactly where we were at
- 12:41with Frost when we had close losses a lot of those years. How are
- 12:45we going to fix it, how we're going to get over it? And
- 12:46what does that look like? No one's gonna have the answer to that.
- 12:50And you hope that rule they got they have a plan, right, but
- 12:54they also got to be thinking, well, Ship, what the hell happened
- 12:58if Iowa is not that Iowa. Some of these teams don't make mistakes because
- 13:05they also make mistakes. They just make fewer mistakes than us to win these
- 13:11games. Iowa. Deacon Hill's fucking horrible. That guy is so bad.
- 13:16They love sixty eight like he is huge one of the worst quarterbacks I've ever
- 13:20saw played. I can't believe that they literally have no one else on their
- 13:24roster like this is the guy, Like if they had a better quarterback,
- 13:30because every receivers were open. It's not like it wasn't the bad design plays.
- 13:35Well, there were a couple of times where the ball just straight up
- 13:37hit the receivers in the hands, Like, yeah, it's all these Big
- 13:43ten quarterbacks, right, They're not put throw our quarterbacks in there too,
- 13:48No, we don't. There's not there's not elite quarterbacks in the Big ten,
- 13:50Big Ten West, and we knew that. And they all make mistakes.
- 13:54They all look horrible, like no one's gonna be perfect. It come
- 14:00down to one making fewer mistakes and your opponents and then capitalizing on the opportunities
- 14:03that you get when you do force a turnover. And I thought our defense,
- 14:09like they've done all year, two blocked field goals. I mean,
- 14:13shit, you blocked two field goals and you still lose a football game like
- 14:16that. That can't happen very often, like they so told me. I
- 14:20texted you, and you obviously gave me the classic Austin response when I said,
- 14:26like, I really don't know how to fee about this game, because
- 14:28it's like, we blocked two field goals, but then we had we had
- 14:30a punt in the side the one yard line, but a field goal.
- 14:33We had some shitty punts too. It's like, yeah, you saw like
- 14:37that punt was like, oh my god, like we actually had this thing
- 14:39figured out like this, You're right. If we won that game, it
- 14:43was because of Brian Bushini punt And they were right down in the end zone,
- 14:46which is a blast because I was like three rows up, literally right
- 14:48on top of them, just yelling at Deacon Hill the whole time. It
- 14:50was a lot of fun. But that that moment, you're like, Okay,
- 14:56we got this. We we do some we have made some good plays,
- 15:00but still when it comes down to it, and and yeah, you
- 15:03talk about Nebraska, but also Iowa. Iowa finds a way to win these
- 15:07fucking games every single week. And the craziest way possible is Kirk Parents the
- 15:11big ten coach of the year. You're not getting yes, he definitely maybe
- 15:22gotta have a deal the devil Iowa. How ab hell with these games,
- 15:28they have no offense at all, like zero, and they they always just
- 15:33find like I sitting there, I'm like I was gonna find this is the
- 15:35perfect Iowa game. They're gonna find a way to win this and it just
- 15:39happens the same way every time. Yeah, No, last recession was just
- 15:45the worst part was the Tommy Hill freaking intercests the ball and you're like,
- 15:48oh my gosh, he played great. He did. I was like,
- 15:52this might happen, Like we just intercepted the ball. That doesn't happen,
- 15:56and then we had the holding penalty so it gets called back a little bit,
- 16:00which is but like, okay, you know that'll happen. These are
- 16:02defenders. And then just a back bread Oh my gosh, I can't believe
- 16:07through that interception and then fact that we were favored by three or two and
- 16:11a half. I'm like Vegas knows something, Like I know. I was
- 16:15traditionally known for winning every close game in Nebraska, is known for losing every
- 16:18close game. But Vegas knows something or two and a half point favors.
- 16:22They know something. No Vegas is wrong. It was like we just couldn't
- 16:27stop them on that last It's all right, we've all got them on the
- 16:30edge of field goal range. We can hold them. And then they had
- 16:33just one big run right at the middle. That sucked. What a gosh,
- 16:41what a bummer. It was such a sad game. Yeah, it
- 16:47the game itself. I sad, frustrated. Whatever the implications though that I
- 16:53think it has on this team is more than we realize right now, right
- 17:00now, it hurt, sucks, and we're actually used to obviously not going
- 17:03to a ball game and used to our season being over at the same time
- 17:07of the year for the last six years, Like we're used to this,
- 17:10but I think this year it's bigger than we even realize right now, the
- 17:14implications of what it's going to have on the off season. And yes,
- 17:17there's a lot of good things coming out of ty Robinson returning and some of
- 17:21these guys seniors talking really highly of this staff, like that's great, that's
- 17:25awesome. I hope that all again carries into the off season. But you
- 17:30talk about a a morale standpoint heading into off season spring workouts, like jeez,
- 17:37versus going to a ball game and eat one. E've been going to
- 17:41a ball game, but two winning a bowl game potentially, like think about
- 17:45your morale there versus what it is now of Oh my god, again you
- 17:48start to think in question all right, like this is the process of what
- 17:52the coaches believe and this is what we're doing. I'll mak what you think.
- 17:57That's what you think rule does better than from us, right, terrible
- 18:02motivator and you in theory, I think we both are. All three of
- 18:04us believe that Rule is a much better motivator of people than Frost is,
- 18:10and leader of men and leader of men, that's going to be more important
- 18:15this steason because I think you'll be able to see a bigger leap going into
- 18:18next year. Don't want to get too much into end of your stuff,
- 18:19but first what Frost did where it just felt like that defeat carried over year
- 18:23over year, And that's what we're trusting, right and talking about drinking a
- 18:27Rule aid. That's what we're putting our faith and that's what we're That's what
- 18:30we are seeing with Matt Rule as a football coach. Is that piece of
- 18:36the relationships, the leader of men getting guys to believe and trust in what
- 18:41they're doing. That's the first side of it. The second side of it
- 18:45then is what that again, process, belief, system, identity, all
- 18:51those words, what is that? And I think it was more clear this
- 18:57year what we were trying to do offensively. I think he has a vision,
- 19:04I think, but I'm not solidified and I don't know that Rule.
- 19:08I don't know that they truly believe in what they're trying to do yet.
- 19:14And yeah, obviously there's a fine line of tweaking and adjusting your your current
- 19:18beliefs and system and adapting and all of that, but also whatever your roots
- 19:23are and your firm ground beliefs, like that has to be your core.
- 19:27And again I don't have specific examples, but that's towards the end of the
- 19:33year, I thought some of that might have got a little bit faltered.
- 19:37And then that was just the feeling I had that maybe rules beliefs and his
- 19:44thoughts of how to build a program he's starting to one. It's harder Nebraska
- 19:49to do than Baylorn Temple. We all knew that. I think he knew
- 19:52that, but the pressure and the outside influences, like it helps you really
- 19:56ground yourself and what do I truly believe in? And how am I going
- 20:00to get this program to win games at Nebraska? I mean, the other
- 20:06the other programs that he's built, he had much worse first seasons than did
- 20:11the first season. So you're hoping that that the way that this year ended
- 20:18doesn't necessarily impact what he thinks. I mean, I shouldn't say that,
- 20:23but I'm trying to basically say, is the way that this year ended should
- 20:27take away from the good that this year produced, because I think we're all
- 20:32we're happy. We were more happy to have a Huskar fan this year than
- 20:34we were last year. The main thing is you you know what your main
- 20:41problem is and you you hope you can fix its turnovers. Yeah. No,
- 20:45I because I was I was asking people. I was like, if
- 20:51you cut your turnovers just in half, how many games think you would have
- 20:52won this year? Yeah? I mean seven, eight, Like you're you're
- 21:00you're talking a lot. You're looking at the season a lot differently that that.
- 21:06So, yeah, Dak, that's a very simple answer. But you're
- 21:08smart offwa the fumble and the game ceiling and interception again, your offensive strategy
- 21:21or identity or I mean, I think we can all agree our defense was
- 21:26twice three times better than what we expected it to be. Yes, offense,
- 21:32yeah, did not get better. But at the same time, people,
- 21:34you know, do you rule set it? And I I like,
- 21:37as an answer to that, like we want to go in and change,
- 21:41we want to fire an offensive coordinator and start a brand new system. Do
- 21:44we want to reset everything on offense? No, I don't think we do.
- 21:48I think we've got to build on what we have. We need to
- 21:52get a better quarterback. Talk about that in the off season here. I
- 21:56mean, I think that's probably one thing, But I also I'm not a
- 22:00believer right now that we need to get a freaking top ten quarterback in the
- 22:03country. There's no with what we're trying to do, we don't need that.
- 22:06It's truly guys we have right now without turning the ball over. And
- 22:10I know there's a lot of things that go into turning the ball over,
- 22:14decision making, just situational stuff, and yeah, talent just truly being able
- 22:18to throw a good passer or not or hang onto the ball. But that
- 22:22whole thing. I think we're going to continue to build on that. And
- 22:26if we fix the turnover thing, this offense looks completely different. And the
- 22:32big ten to West bad offense is right, We're one of them. We're
- 22:36no longer bad. We're just averager mediocre now, which again, with a
- 22:40strong defense, it's going to win you a lot of games. Yeah,
- 22:44and we the run game was good this year, Like they actively tried to
- 22:48establish the run. It just didn't work out when we needed when we got
- 22:52stupped a couple of times and we had to pass the ball and then we
- 22:55couldn't pass the ball. But I totally agree. I don't think they shoot.
- 23:00Shouldn't want to be starting over anywhere because we cut those there's a clear
- 23:03I should say player. But the major issues I think again, I'm trying
- 23:10to get into off season the next year, but just looking at the offense
- 23:14from the Iowa game, it was our special teams are kicking unit. If
- 23:18we could get better field better field goal percentage. I think we all think
- 23:22Tristan's good, I mean speaking, just give him a little bit more of
- 23:26that. What is it the second time you press XO when you're playing Madden?
- 23:32Is that the accuracy? And then that miss? Though, no,
- 23:37he wasn't, but he was good from fifty five? Yeah, I was.
- 23:42But walking out there, I in the back of my head like there's
- 23:45no just how the rast football is, there's no shits making this, but
- 23:48he already hit one from that distance. It's like I know, And that
- 23:52was my thought too, of like nope, I was like, we're favored
- 23:56by three. Is that the Vegas nos this is going in? This thing
- 23:57is getting And I was, guys, I'm sitting right behind the left goal
- 24:02post where that thing missed left right when that ball up is what I'm like,
- 24:06fuck Christ, Like it's it took less than a half a second for
- 24:10the ball to lead the foot. I'm like, oh my god. Oh
- 24:17she's like, oh kicking the field I mean, you know, you guys
- 24:19take a lead here. It's like, I don't think you understand this guy
- 24:22is She's like, you already hear that distant earlier, didn't he? And
- 24:26I was like he did, he can miss this one by twenty five yards,
- 24:30Like nobody's business. I think, Austin, what you just said,
- 24:36Like all those things are very well known problems or issues. I mean,
- 24:42turnover, special teams. I think that they're glaring right right, the quarterback
- 24:48play, Like those things need to get better. So no one's going to
- 24:53argue or disagree with those things. It's the how are we gonna do and
- 24:57how we're gonna get it done? And that's something thing that we don't know
- 25:03how that's going to get approached. And that's when the coaching staff has to
- 25:07figure out. And again you're trusting a coaching staff to fix these things that,
- 25:12Yeah, how do you fix a guy from turning the ball over?
- 25:15Well, I don't know, Like I would have a I know what my
- 25:18approach would be, and that may be different than what you think your approach
- 25:22would be. And the person after that, and how do you how do
- 25:26you how do you start stop shaking punts? Well, I don't know.
- 25:30Like again, a solution is getting a better punter or getting you know,
- 25:33getting a better quarterback. That doesn't that's that's a possible solution, right,
- 25:37But that's that's what coaching is in college football. That's what rule and staff,
- 25:41that's what they're paid the money to do, and that's what they that's
- 25:45what they say they build programs on. They build programs on coaching talented high
- 25:48school athletes. Yep. And on top of that, when rule came in
- 25:53here, what was the number one thing that he said? Not number one,
- 25:56but one of the main things he said, We're going to be we're
- 26:00going to be in control of the clock or the you know, the run
- 26:03game, and we're going to take care of the ball. Well, this
- 26:06is the worst year that we've ever had of taking care of the ball.
- 26:08So whatever his thought process was, right of how he's going to solve that
- 26:15didn't work, Like it did not work. That show did not work.
- 26:18So how are we going to fix that? And change that if that's what
- 26:22his true belief is and is on his teams, that we're going to take
- 26:26care of the ball. Okay, that's a very common thing to say.
- 26:29Every football coach in the world's going to say, Yeah, we need to
- 26:30take care of the ball. That's obvious. How are we going to do
- 26:33that? And what what does that mean? Because it need to get better
- 26:37players. Do we need to coach them differently? Do we need to have
- 26:41a different style of play calling so we don't put ourselves in the situation to
- 26:45turn it over? And it could be all the above. I don't know,
- 26:47but we need to see that that progress, I guess going in to
- 26:51our first few games next year, because we didn't see that the last five
- 26:56and that's where the frustration comes in is it didn't get fixed. It didn't
- 27:00seem like if it was addressed, it didn't work. However it was addressed,
- 27:04I mean it kind of worked against Wisconsin. I mean maybe maybe it
- 27:12was when we put our quarterback in the last couple of games. Is when
- 27:15we put our quarterback in position to where he had to make plays that he
- 27:18couldn't. Even in your wins, you still turn the ball over like crazy
- 27:23though he won thirty one to fourteen turnover five times. Yeah, you refused
- 27:29along the ball the whole year. That was your main problem. I mean,
- 27:33I guess, yeah, turnovers are going to happen, and if you
- 27:37look at if you wanted to go back and watch them, it'd be kind
- 27:40of fun to see if somebody made a clip of all of our turnovers on
- 27:44the year, how many of them were aggressive like turnovers you're maybe okay with,
- 27:52versus ones that are just like literally like chubb Us where we just like
- 27:56dropped the ball, like literally just dropped it as he was running, like
- 28:00those kind of thing that turned on. I missed the first quarter because I
- 28:02was outside doing something and then I came in. I was like, all
- 28:04right, and probably miss first quarter. You know, we'll see what the
- 28:07damage is. Very first play. I watched the freaking bubble fight Trevor like,
- 28:11oh, was literally dropping the ball. So it would be kind of
- 28:15fun to see, Like, you take all of the called unforced turnovers out,
- 28:22but you know the snaps and the exchanges in the backfield that are you
- 28:26just ball drops like or the interceptions that there's a lot of them that were
- 28:30just like that was not that was not a good risk take there. That
- 28:33was just a really bad pass. So I do think even in basketball too,
- 28:38right, there's you know, team has ten turnovers. I think there's
- 28:41some turnovers that are good turnovers if you're being aggressive and and you throw a
- 28:45good back door cut pass that just goes off your guys foot, like hey,
- 28:51something you might live with, right, versus a person just randomly traveling
- 28:56without any defensive pressure. I think there's that's two different types. And I
- 28:59think yeah, both obviously on football field, and if you clean up the
- 29:03unforced ones, I do I think, I think you're you're you're winning more
- 29:08games or at least putting yourself in a lot better position to win games.
- 29:15Dames for sure had ten at least double digits on forced turnovers this year alone.
- 29:18I felt like he didn't even play that much he did. I mean
- 29:22the first three games alone, he had five on forty four games. Yeah,
- 29:29I don't. God, damn quarterbacks. We fucked two field goals and
- 29:36we've lost. Yeah, that's sucks. I mean, guys, did you
- 29:44say party by far? Look the best quarterback of the season even though you
- 29:48played two and a half games there two games he did by far those three,
- 29:52he looks solid. Again, my opinion on those quarterbacks hasn't changed.
- 29:56They're all two three out of tens on the rankings. And yeah, Chubba
- 30:00did some good things and made some plays, but he's not a kind of
- 30:03liked Heinrich a little better though, because I think he committed. I think
- 30:07all quarterbacks you still get a two, three, four game surprise for the
- 30:12other teams. They don't as much film on you. You're you know,
- 30:15you get experiment as coaches a little bit with them on the I think we
- 30:18got that with Chubba too. And I think do I think Chubba could do
- 30:22a serviceable job? Yeah, I think so, But is that what I
- 30:27want? No, it'd be nice to get somebody better challenge him at least,
- 30:32And I think that's what we're going to be going after here. And
- 30:33I think that's probably pretty known. I would think in the locker room.
- 30:37I don't think rules saying Chubba, you're our guy next to number one.
- 30:40Like, I don't think that's the message you're saying to Chubb after the year's
- 30:42over. Oh, definitely not so. Like I think, yeah, he
- 30:47did some good things and he made some plays, like yeah, great job,
- 30:49Chubb. But at the same time, is that what we want.
- 30:53I think we want something a little better than that. Again, I don't
- 30:56think we need an elite guy, but we need something a little better and
- 31:00shove up. But he did what he needed to do. I thought two
- 31:04put us a position to win less turnovers, I mean, take those out
- 31:08of there. And Kava did some good things. So who knows. Tomorrow
- 31:17the portal opens up, yep, portals be open and and we'll see.
- 31:22I think, I mean, we'll talk on Wednesday a little bit too.
- 31:25But I think there's a checklist here that Hoscar fans are gonna want from coach
- 31:32ruling staff here, and I mean, we can go through that more on
- 31:36Wednesday. But I would say one thing up there, pretty high in the
- 31:38list is keeping Tony White around and and whatever we have to pay him,
- 31:44we need to pay him, because, yeah, what what he did on
- 31:47the defensive end of the ball this year, which was one of the biggest
- 31:49question marks right of how this defense is going to do and work in the
- 31:53Big ten, did a tremendous job with them and was the reason we were
- 31:59in and and won the games that we did win. What did you think,
- 32:01I know we didn't meet midweek last week. What do you think of
- 32:05rules comments on the head coaching jobs, because clearly he's because they said San
- 32:08Diego State had called Tony White about being their head coach. The Rule kind
- 32:13of basically came out and said like, hey, like, you know,
- 32:15I'm gonna be a good reference. I think you'd make a great head football
- 32:17coach. But you know, I'm just letting him know, like, not
- 32:21every job worth leaving for. Basically what he said, yeah, and it
- 32:24will be interesting, and he talked about resources and having the budget. I
- 32:30thought was kind of like a subtle jab at Trev to be honest, well
- 32:34it was, and I actually was a little bit surprised at where we ranked
- 32:37the Big Ten with that. I think we're twelve out of the eighteen teams
- 32:42coming in to next year's conference. It yeah, subtle jab, I guess,
- 32:49but but I think a lot of those comments were right, like you
- 32:52got to make sure it's the right fit and and you're gonna you're gonna have
- 32:54the leadership and resources available to you to allow you to have success. So
- 33:01I also think there's the other side of that is, yeah, that you're
- 33:05also getting paid however, many millions of dollars and if you truly do care
- 33:09about the program and where it needs to go, Like, are you willing
- 33:14to sacrifice a little bit of you to keep someone that you really want?
- 33:17And I think that's also a fair question. If someone like Tony White truly
- 33:23is that valuable and you know that, then are you willing to cut a
- 33:27million off of your salary for him an extra? Like? I don't know.
- 33:30I'm not saying that needs to be done, but I think that's an
- 33:31interesting thing to think about. I agree that, all right, real quick?
- 33:43Do you believe that Texa and and I'm interviewed in that rule? No,
- 33:46I don't. Other, Yeah, I do. I think he's better
- 33:51than the coach. I think he's Yeah, I do. I think what
- 33:54they get the coach, they're ready to hire Mark Stukes. Do you think
- 34:01he interviewed, oh? Interviewed? Oh? I no, I don't think
- 34:05he interviewed. I think they called him. Yeah. I agree, I
- 34:09think they're getting Mike Elco. It sounds like had Mark Stukes the fans fans
- 34:15got all pissed off that went through. I saw a tweet that said Mark
- 34:17Stukes is buy out for being the head coach for thirty minutes is twenty two
- 34:21million or something like that. I'm like, that's funny. All right,
- 34:25Nebraska basketball, we gotta get to touch on some things here because we do
- 34:30have a big game a week from today against Creighton at home. Creighton did
- 34:34just get their best kicked by Colorado of State. But Nebraska basketball seven and
- 34:37zero and playing really well right now. Now say that because our opponents and
- 34:43our schedule have not not been of quality as maybe we've seen in some previous
- 34:49years. But we're looking good in those games and we're doing what we need
- 34:52to do. We've lost some of these games before, We've been in dogfightes
- 34:55with these teams, and we're really doing a great job of taking care of
- 35:00business. And I went to the game today. I want to say this,
- 35:04guys, this team, and there's an article written about it in one
- 35:07of the papers are online this week. This team is playing together like with
- 35:15each other and supporting each other, and when guys are out on the bench,
- 35:19it is it is a very community based group right here. And we've
- 35:23we talked about the cancers that we've had on our last teams that maybe had
- 35:28a lot of talent, but brought a lot of individualization to the team.
- 35:37Jam mac Alonso Verge. Not to throw out some names here, but there's
- 35:39been some pieces there that again it makes it a little bit hard. This
- 35:44group is not doesn't have any of that, and they are very impressive to
- 35:47watch them play within each other and together on the court, and they did
- 35:53that again today watching them in person. There's there's a lot of good things
- 35:58here and what the continue to talk about Nebraska basketball here the next few months
- 36:01because I think this could twenty four and six, but I think I think
- 36:08there's some pieces here that could be could be a tournament potential team as we
- 36:16move into conference play. No, I agree. My brother said rank mass
- 36:21raises our floor and raises our ceiling. Yeah. I like that comment a
- 36:25lot, and I think that, I mean, it's true if they're all
- 36:30going like my concern going forward once he has a big ten, play is
- 36:34going to be size for sure, because we're pretty small and teams are playing
- 36:37right now don't have a lot of size. We're really not though, I
- 36:39mean we don't have against the big ten. I'll say our guards are a
- 36:45little bit tiny, but we're long, we're strong. Like Juan Garrett looks
- 36:50like a thirty two year old guy in men'sley, So just rank Mass looks
- 36:53like a guy you don't want to be facing in the post like at all
- 36:57in men's ley. Like those guys are their physical and Bryce Williams is long
- 37:01and athletic. I think our lineups might look a little different, Like I
- 37:06think it will be hard to play a Sam Horberg and JaMarcus Lawrence and Case
- 37:08like those three year old, very small guards. Like I agree with you
- 37:13with those guys, but the rest of the team, like Boogie Williams is
- 37:16he's a solid or Brookie Coleman, he's a solid. He's a solid wing
- 37:22like he is, and I think he's only going to get better too,
- 37:24with how young he is. Case might not be your best player, which
- 37:30if you see that coming into hear that you think that be insane. I
- 37:34don't think he is the best player. No, you might. I'm the
- 37:37top two. I mean, yeah, guys, there's a lot of pieces
- 37:42there and it's exciting. We can talk more about the Creighton game here on
- 37:45Wednesday, because that's gonna be a I don't know what the spread is going
- 37:50to be on that, but I we're going to be at home. I
- 37:52mean, I think we'll be surprised. It might be lower than we think,
- 37:55Like Creighton will still be favored ob basically, I mean they got thump
- 37:59Bill out of state. He did so all right. We'll be doing more
- 38:04of a season recap episode on Wednesday, going through some of our key takeaways,
- 38:08things we've learned, things we want to learn heading into the off season,
- 38:12and talk a little Nebraska Creighton rivalry in basketball. Go be gread vire,
- 38:20fuck you b y u
