- 0:21back with the Jim Mora and coach Tae Kwon. Roberson looks to be improving
- 0:27week to week here. I'm curious to get your take on it. Twenty
- 0:31three for thirty two and a couple of touchdowns. He also ran the ball
- 0:34pretty well. I see him, you know, taking a step forward here
- 0:39and that could mean a lot to this team in the second half of the
- 0:41season. Yeah, you and I've talked about this is it. You know,
- 0:45he hasn't played a lot of football at this level. You know,
- 0:48he's yeah, he's got some years in college football, but in terms of
- 0:55taking snaps, he hasn't played a lot, you know, And he's at
- 1:00a guy and regardless of your talent level, you still have to have experience
- 1:03you need snaps, especially at that position. It's just a position that takes
- 1:07time to learn, and the best way to learn is to take competitive snaps
- 1:11in the game. So when you have talent, you work hard, and
- 1:14you get those snaps, then all of a sudden, you see improvement.
- 1:15And that's what we're seeing out to Take one, and you know, he
- 1:19had a relatively good day. You know, he did a great job overcoming
- 1:23the first interception and not going in the tank and just fighting his way through
- 1:27that. You know, he completed over seventy percent of his passes for over
- 1:33two hundred and fifty yards, which hasn't been done here since two thousand and
- 1:37seventeen. So that was a real positive. And now what he's got to
- 1:42do is just continue to do the work, put in the time and keep
- 1:48going out and performing, and he'll just keep getting better and better and better.
- 1:51And we've got to do a good job of supporting him. So when
- 1:53you can run the ball the way we ran the ball early, that's always
- 1:56going to help your quarterback. When you can get him some takeaways, it's
- 2:00always going to help your quarterbacks. So I see tremendous growth out of Take
- 2:02one, and I believe that we would once he's you know, he started
- 2:06getting those reps. Makes you wonder, you know, if he, if
- 2:09he hadn't got hurt last year, where we'd be with him right now?
- 2:13Yeah, that's that's a good point. Miss the entire year after that first
- 2:15quarter injury at Utah State. Let's talk about him running the football. Now.
- 2:20It's easy for me sitting up in the broadcast boot to say, well,
- 2:23why didn't he pull it down and run? There were a couple of
- 2:25plays where he was in between trying to figure out can I run for a
- 2:30first down? Or should I throw it? And that to me is going
- 2:34back to what you just said in terms of experience being on the field,
- 2:37seeing the field reps. Did you see that as well when you looked at
- 2:40the tape, whether a couple of times where maybe okay, I pulled it
- 2:44down, we get the first down, I get out of bounds and that's
- 2:46a good play for us. I didn't really notice that, No, I
- 2:50didn't. Every play has a read, whether he gives it or keeps it,
- 2:54whether he throws it or runs it. They're called zone reads and RPOs.
- 2:59And so he made really good decisions actually, And you don't want to
- 3:05give up on every play I thought, I thought his decision making was good.
- 3:09Well that's good. That's good to hear for sure, Cam Ross.
- 3:13We're gonna talk to him a little later in the show. I mean,
- 3:15you talk about courage and the sticktuitiveness that guy two years of injuries starting around
- 3:23into the shape that we saw from him as a freshman when he caught sixty
- 3:27balls, seven catches, seventy yards. What do you what do you assess
- 3:32when you look at a wide receiver? What are you looking for in terms
- 3:36of having a great day? Number One, catching the foot, not dropping
- 3:43it, getting some yards after the catch, being effective in the run game
- 3:47as a blocker, and then coming up with the key catch when you need
- 3:51to make the key catch. And Cam did that. And it's really fun
- 3:53to see him after all the adversity, and you saw more of it than
- 3:57I did, although I saw my fair share of it the last couple of
- 4:00years that he's been through. It's good to see him experienced success out there,
- 4:04and he's just got to keep building on that. And I believe you
- 4:08know that having a game like that, even though the outcome wasn't what we
- 4:12wanted gives a guy like Cam the confidence that he needs to keep ascending as
- 4:19a player. So I'm you know, look at you. You're you're devastated
- 4:26by any loss, but in any loss, you're able to find some things
- 4:30that that keep your rowing, that give you hope, that you're excited about.
- 4:33And you know, we just talked about two guys that make you feel
- 4:36that way. Take Kwan and Cam, who've overcome a whole lot and they're
- 4:41still fighting and uh man, that's what it's all about. Yeah, there's
- 4:45still staying the course, which I know we all appreciate. Just a quick
- 4:49thought on the wide receivers for Utah State before we leave that game behind us.
- 4:55You took Terrell Vaughan, a guy that came in had thirty eight catches,
- 5:00and I think we had one catch for no yards. Yet Jail and
- 5:02Doyle's broke loose. It's so difficult when you're facing the team that's got not
- 5:08one, but two kind of game breaking wide receivers. How did that happen
- 5:12where you're able to control one guy but the other guy gets loose. Well,
- 5:16we it wasn't by it wasn't by plan that we were working on taking
- 5:23one guy away and trying to get him to focus on the other It all
- 5:26depends on the coverage that you're playing and how it's played, and the formation
- 5:29they give you and the route that they run. And the other guy got
- 5:32loose. You know, we we busted two coverages. One of them was
- 5:36not a good defensive call, which comes back to me. You know,
- 5:42we got blocked once. It was easy catch and run for a long touchdown,
- 5:46and we lined up a little bit incorrectly with one of the linebackers,
- 5:48and then you know, we got beat on one, which is that's gonna
- 5:53happen at times. You know, you're gonna get beat at times. Right,
- 5:55You're gonna You're just gonna get beat in the secondary at times. The
- 5:59ones that kill me are the ones where you blow it. You know,
- 6:01either you blow the call, or you blow the execution, or you blow
- 6:05the assignment. Those are the ones you can't have. So you know,
- 6:10there's we didn't have a plan to take away one guy and another guy got
- 6:13free. We just we just made some some mistakes that are just not acceptable.
- 6:19You know. It's life in the secondary, is I told Dalton Hilliard
- 6:24when I came in Sunday morning, I saw him. So you want to
- 6:26be a DV coach? Huh, because you V coach. In my career
- 6:30and I've had many of those games, you just go, oh my god,
- 6:32just what just happened? You know, you play that or your coach
- 6:36or play that position where one air, there's nobody behind you to save you.
- 6:41You know, when you're a defensive lineman or linebacker, there's someone behind
- 6:44you that can save you. There's nobody to save you when you're back there.
- 6:47So it's it's no fun sometimes being being in that position. Yeah,
- 6:54That's that's why they say you're on an island, and they you really mean
- 6:58that. You're on an island, man, and you got to you gotta
- 7:01deal with the heartbreak of it. And the successes you have are kind of
- 7:08like you're supposed to do that, and then when something goes along. It's
- 7:11got to be tough on a dB without a doubt. All Right, we'll
- 7:15with Jim Moore. This is the Yukon football coaches Shaw Mike Rispino back in
- 7:17a moment onlearfield
