• 2:12
Speaker 5: but election day is May twelve. Welcome to the show. Now,
• 2:14
Speaker 5: Michael Kidd is a Republican running for House in District
• 2:17
Speaker 5: twenty one. Good morning, sir, and.
• 2:20
Speaker 6: Welcome to the show. Good morning, good to be here,
• 2:22
Speaker 6: Thank you for being there. Tell us who Michael Kidd is?
• 2:24
Speaker 6: Well so West Virginia boy through and through. Grew up
• 2:28
Speaker 6: in Cross Lanes, went to Nitro High School, spent the
• 2:32
Speaker 6: last thirty years living in Hurricane, West Virginia. Married young
• 2:38
Speaker 6: lady I met in four h many years ago, four
• 2:41
Speaker 6: h camp Lisa Edwards Kid. We had two boys, Aaron
• 2:45
Speaker 6: and Andrew Kidd, who went through the Putnam County school system.
• 2:50
  Speaker 3: They are known.
• 2:50
Speaker 6: Locally as the Kid Brothers Bluegrass. They started playing bluegrass
• 2:55
Speaker 6: when they were very young and have been quite successful
• 2:58
Speaker 6: at it. My younger boy won the state championship at
• 3:01
Speaker 6: Vandelia four years back to back.
• 3:04
Speaker 3: He won when he was You're.
• 3:06
Speaker 6: Not allowed to win two years in a row, so
• 3:08
Speaker 6: he won at age seventeen, nineteen twenty one, and twenty three.
• 3:12
Speaker 6: They continue to play from time to time, though now
• 3:15
Speaker 6: they're in different cities. They both one went to Marshall,
• 3:20
Speaker 6: one went to WVU, but they.
• 3:22
Speaker 3: Came back together at law school.
• 3:23
Speaker 6: Both went to WVU Law School and are now living
• 3:27
Speaker 6: their lives, and one of them has made us a
• 3:29
Speaker 6: grandparent Aunt Andrew, and my daughter in law has made
• 3:33
Speaker 6: us a new grandparent as of five months ago.
• 3:35
  Speaker 5: If I didn't know better, Michael, I would say, you're
• 3:37
Speaker 5: proud of your family, very proud, just saying absolutely, that's
• 3:40
Speaker 5: a good guess when your part, yes, explain the district
• 3:43
  Speaker 5: to us.
• 3:44
Speaker 6: Okay, So the district I'm running in twenty one is
• 3:48
Speaker 6: more or less the south west portion of Putnam County.
• 3:52
Speaker 6: Putnam County's broken up into seven districts. I'm sorry, four districts.
• 3:57
Speaker 6: I meant to say several. And I'm in the district
• 4:00
Speaker 6: that encompasses all of the city of Hurricane and the
• 4:03
Speaker 6: outlying outlying areas to the county line down to Kellodin,
• 4:08
Speaker 6: over to the Hamlin area of Lincoln County, line up
• 4:12
Speaker 6: Cole Mountain. You know, a long route sixty and then
• 4:15
Speaker 6: a little ways up Tays Valley Road up to about
• 4:18
Speaker 6: Sleepy Hollow. Okay, all right, so why are you running
• 4:20
Speaker 6: for House? So I ran four years ago. I sat
• 4:23
Speaker 6: in this very seat four years ago and made my
• 4:28
Speaker 6: first attempt. I narrowly lost by two hundred and fifty
• 4:31
Speaker 6: votes to a young man named Jared Cannon, and he
• 4:35
Speaker 6: has done a phenomenal job. I told him after the election,
• 4:39
Speaker 6: when I was congratulating him, I said, look, as long
• 4:41
Speaker 6: as you do what you say you're going to do,
• 4:43
Speaker 6: I'm not going to run against you anymore, because I
• 4:46
Speaker 6: mainly just wanted a solid conservative in there. He fulfilled
• 4:50
Speaker 6: his end of the bargain and did what he was
• 4:52
Speaker 6: supposed to do. He contacted me in December and said,
• 4:56
Speaker 6: I'm not running again, and I would endorse you and
• 5:00
Speaker 6: promote you to take my position based on what I
• 5:03
Speaker 6: know of you. Basically, I don't want any drastic changes.
• 5:08
Speaker 6: I just would like to keep Putnam County moving in
• 5:10
Speaker 6: the right direction like we're moving now. Although in just
• 5:14
Speaker 6: a moment, I would like to talk about a couple
• 5:16
Speaker 6: of problems, not necessarily Putnam County problems, but problems that
• 5:20
Speaker 6: have affected our state that still need.
• 5:22
  Speaker 5: To drive ahead.
• 5:23
Speaker 6: Sure, sure, So I've got some notes here so that
• 5:26
Speaker 6: I'm going to just skip over to that section. One
• 5:29
Speaker 6: of those issues is the foster care system in West Virginia.
• 5:33
Speaker 6: It's it's the only thing I can say is it's broken.
• 5:37
Speaker 6: In order to get to this topic, let me back
• 5:40
Speaker 6: up and just tell you a little bit about myself.
• 5:42
Speaker 6: In nineteen eighty four, I graduated from the West Virginia
• 5:45
Speaker 6: State Police Academy. I was in local law enforcement eighty
• 5:48
Speaker 6: four eighty five, A six eighty seven. In eighty eight
• 5:51
Speaker 6: I became a private investigator, not the kind you see
• 5:54
Speaker 6: on television that chases cheating spouses. I do a lot
• 5:59
Speaker 6: of work for insurance companies, law offices, human resource departments,
• 6:03
Speaker 6: and a number of government agencies. I contract with the
• 6:06
Speaker 6: State of West Virginia. I've contracted with the US State
• 6:09
Speaker 6: Department out of Washington with a security clearance and so forth.
• 6:13
Speaker 6: In the course of that work, I've worked on a
• 6:15
Speaker 6: number of cases recently where plaintiffs attorneys rightfully so, are
• 6:20
Speaker 6: suing the West Virginia DHHR over children in the foster
• 6:24
Speaker 6: care system who either died or were severely abused and neglected.
• 6:29
Speaker 6: And it's just inexcusable. I mean something must be done
• 6:33
Speaker 6: to fix this foster care system. If anybody that follows
• 6:36
Speaker 6: the news would know. I mean, there's multiple examples. There's
• 6:40
Speaker 6: a young girl fourteen years old who died of starvation
• 6:43
Speaker 6: down in Boone County. There's multiple examples around the state,
• 6:47
Speaker 6: and some of them I know personally because I worked
• 6:49
Speaker 6: on the case, and something's got to be done. I'm
• 6:53
Speaker 6: not in a position right now to point the finger
• 6:55
Speaker 6: and say this is exactly the solution, but I can
• 6:58
Speaker 6: tell you whatever we're doing now is not getting it.
• 7:01
Speaker 5: Talking to Michael Kead again, who is Republican running for
• 7:04
Speaker 5: House in District twenty one, you mentioned the foster care system.
• 7:08
Speaker 5: What do you see is some of the other big
• 7:09
Speaker 5: needs specifically of District twenty one.
• 7:12
Speaker 3: Well specific to our district.
• 7:14
Speaker 6: Right now, we have a lot of new business coming
• 7:16
Speaker 6: in right next door in Mason County, potentially in Putnam
• 7:20
Speaker 6: County as well, with the data center possibly coming in.
• 7:24
Speaker 6: And when you bring in an influx of business and
• 7:28
Speaker 6: the people that comes with it, both for the construction
• 7:31
Speaker 6: and to work there permanently, you know it's a cascade
• 7:35
Speaker 6: of things that must be done to welcome those people.
• 7:38
Speaker 6: New housing, new roads, new recreation facilities, on and on.
• 7:44
Speaker 6: You know, Hurricane has always had that small town feel.
• 7:48
Speaker 6: I mean, that's why we moved there. Originally. My wife
• 7:51
Speaker 6: grew up there. She grew up on Sam's Fork Road,
• 7:54
Speaker 6: right off of Route sixty. We still have a lot
• 7:56
Speaker 6: of family there, but we've got to look to the
• 8:00
Speaker 6: future and say, Okay, when there's new businesses coming in
• 8:04
Speaker 6: employing five hundred and one thousand people within twenty miles
• 8:07
Speaker 6: of where we live, they've got to live somewhere, they've
• 8:10
Speaker 6: got to eat somewhere, they've got to have means to
• 8:13
Speaker 6: get to and from work without being backed up in
• 8:15
Speaker 6: traffic for hours at a time.
• 8:18
Speaker 5: That's you know, as somebody you know, Michael, I live
• 8:21
Speaker 5: right in the heart of Days Valley, and I have
• 8:22
Speaker 5: always said before when people complain about the traffic, which
• 8:25
Speaker 5: I do as much as anybody, it's a good problem
• 8:27
Speaker 5: to have, though. It is as long as you can
• 8:29
Speaker 5: handle it. Absolutely, and there's infrastructure issues that come along
• 8:31
Speaker 5: with that as well.
• 8:32
  Speaker 3: Absolutely.
• 8:33
Speaker 6: I mean right now, in the past few months, they've
• 8:36
Speaker 6: been upgrading the entrance to I guess it's Hurricane City
• 8:39
Speaker 6: Park there at the reservoir. That facility is used a
• 8:44
Speaker 6: lot I mean all summer long, it's busy. And for
• 8:47
Speaker 6: the longest time it was a single lane bridge going across.
• 8:51
Speaker 6: Then it upgraded to a two lane bridge. Now they're
• 8:53
Speaker 6: upgrading it again, and that's great because Mayor Scott Edwards
• 8:57
Speaker 6: has done a great job for the city. I don't
• 8:59
Speaker 6: person live in the city limits, but if I did,
• 9:02
  Speaker 6: he would.
• 9:02
  Speaker 3: Have my vote.
• 9:03
Speaker 6: I mean, he's very proactive. He's very much ahead of
• 9:07
Speaker 6: the curve with things that the city can do. But
• 9:10
Speaker 6: some of these issues are Department of Highway issues and
• 9:13
Speaker 6: County Commission issues, but they've got to be addressed. I
• 9:17
Speaker 6: mean nobody, I won't say nobody. A lot of people
• 9:20
Speaker 6: don't like change. They just simply don't like change, and
• 9:23
Speaker 6: I understand it. But the truth of the matter is
• 9:26
Speaker 6: if you want to see the county grow and not
• 9:29
Speaker 6: lose population, you've got to be prepared to change with it.
• 9:32
Speaker 5: What are some of the things that you stand for?
• 9:35
Speaker 6: Basically, so, in no particular order, I'll tell you a
• 9:40
Speaker 6: couple of the issues that were you might say, we're
• 9:42
Speaker 6: hot button issues. It's not been that long ago since
• 9:46
Speaker 6: COVID was the big thing all over the country, not
• 9:49
Speaker 6: just here. There was some absolute craziness with respect to COVID.
• 9:56
Speaker 3: Things that just defied logic.
• 9:58
Speaker 6: You know, walking in a restaurant and you must have
• 10:00
Speaker 6: a mask on when you walk in, but you can
• 10:02
Speaker 6: take it off when you sit down to eat. Or
• 10:04
Speaker 6: students being forced to wear a mask at school but
• 10:07
Speaker 6: they can cut a hole in it to blow their
• 10:09
Speaker 6: trumpet during band practice. That just makes no sense whatsoever.
• 10:13
Speaker 6: People losing their jobs under thread of if you do
• 10:16
Speaker 6: not get our vaccine, you're no longer employed here. Well,
• 10:21
Speaker 6: it takes a while for it to work its way
• 10:22
Speaker 6: through the system, but a lot of those folks have
• 10:24
Speaker 6: been getting rich because they rightfully so sued their employer
• 10:28
  Speaker 6: and said, I don't want your vaccine. I'm healthy, I'm
• 10:32
Speaker 6: not at risk, or whatever the reason might be, I
• 10:35
Speaker 6: don't want your vaccine. And some of the groups that
• 10:38
Speaker 6: sprang up as a result of that, the generic term
• 10:41
Speaker 6: might be health freedom groups have endorsed me. I've received
• 10:45
Speaker 6: endorsements from two of them. And don't get me wrong,
• 10:48
Speaker 6: I'm not against tried and true vaccines that have been
• 10:52
Speaker 6: around for fifty or sixty years and have basically eradicated
• 10:57
Speaker 6: diseases from way before I was. But a lot of
• 11:01
Speaker 6: these new vaccines and things that are just coming out
• 11:04
Speaker 6: of research. I don't want to be a guinea pig
• 11:07
Speaker 6: for it. I don't want my granddaughter to be a
• 11:09
Speaker 6: guinea pig for it.
• 11:11
Speaker 5: Talking to Michael Kid, what are you hearing on the
• 11:13
Speaker 5: campaign trail as you've been out door knocking into candidates
• 11:16
Speaker 5: forums and whatever, what are you hearing from people?
• 11:18
  Speaker 7: You know?
• 11:19
Speaker 3: It's like a box of chocolates. You just never know
• 11:22
Speaker 3: what you're going to get.
• 11:23
Speaker 6: You open the door, and some people, you know, have
• 11:26
  Speaker 6: very little feedback.
• 11:27
Speaker 3: They just thank me for their time for listening.
• 11:32
Speaker 6: But a lot of people are concerned about the data center,
• 11:35
Speaker 6: and rightfully so. And if you aren't familiar with that,
• 11:39
Speaker 6: there's Google or a Google affiliate has bought up seventeen
• 11:42
Speaker 6: hundred acres of property over in Buffalo. But a lot
• 11:47
Speaker 6: of the information floating around right now is based in
• 11:49
Speaker 6: rumor and just hearsay. I will tell you this. I
• 11:54
Speaker 6: talked to one of the other candidates very recently and
• 11:58
Speaker 6: asked for some information about it, and I said, I
• 12:01
Speaker 6: fully intend if I make it through the primary of
• 12:04
Speaker 6: doing what I do best, investigating, you know, not taking hearsay,
• 12:08
Speaker 6: not taking Oh Google says this Google may say anything
• 12:12
Speaker 6: because they own the property. They want the data center.
• 12:16
  Speaker 3: Right now.
• 12:16
Speaker 6: I have not taken a firm stand for or against it.
• 12:19
Speaker 6: I'm leaning for it, but I want more information from
• 12:23
Speaker 6: reliable sources, not from Johnny Bob up the street who
• 12:26
Speaker 6: heard from someone else that it causes this or it
• 12:29
  Speaker 6: causes that.
• 12:30
  Speaker 3: I want facts.
• 12:31
Speaker 6: I want something that could be presented in court if
• 12:33
Speaker 6: need be, that says here's how many jobs, here's the
• 12:37
Speaker 6: good good results of it, here's the bad results of it.
• 12:41
Speaker 5: You have a website or social media I do? I do.
• 12:44
  Speaker 3: I have both. I have.
• 12:47
Speaker 6: Michael Kidd for West Virginia on Facebook and it's very active.
• 12:52
Speaker 6: I try to post on it regularly. I have a
• 12:54
Speaker 6: website Kid for WV dot com, Kidd for WV dot com.
• 13:01
Speaker 6: So both of those will give more information about you know,
• 13:05
Speaker 6: who I am, what I stand for. I would like
• 13:07
Speaker 6: to throw in, I was very pleased to receive the
• 13:10
Speaker 6: endorsement from West Virginians for Life. Putnam County is overwhelmingly conservative.
• 13:16
Speaker 6: I mean it's not well, it's just overwhelmingly conservative.
• 13:19
Speaker 3: I'll leave it at that.
• 13:20
Speaker 6: And the two things that I believe most conservatives have
• 13:25
Speaker 6: in common are God and guns.
• 13:29
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 13:29
Speaker 6: That's if you boil down social issues to two things,
• 13:32
Speaker 6: God and guns. And when it comes to economic issues,
• 13:36
Speaker 6: many people I talk to I will make the comment,
• 13:40
Speaker 6: I believe that you, sir, know how to spend your
• 13:43
Speaker 6: money better than the legislature does, and everyone without failed
• 13:48
Speaker 6: nods and agreements says yes, I do. I believe people
• 13:52
Speaker 6: deserve to keep as much as they possibly can of
• 13:55
Speaker 6: what they earn, that they know what to do with
• 13:57
Speaker 6: it better than state government and better than federal government.
• 14:00
Speaker 5: Give me thirty seconds, why should someone vote for you?
• 14:02
  Speaker 3: Sure?
• 14:04
Speaker 6: I have forty two years total of experienced, four years
• 14:08
Speaker 6: in law enforcement, thirty eight years as a private business owner.
• 14:12
Speaker 6: And I'll say a successful private business owner not only
• 14:16
Speaker 6: a private investigator, but also rental property. I've owned and
• 14:20
Speaker 6: managed for all those years. I've navigated through all the
• 14:24
Speaker 6: red tape of government. I have been on the board
• 14:27
Speaker 6: of directors of the local church there in Saint Aubans
• 14:30
Speaker 6: with a million dollar budget for seven years. I have
• 14:34
Speaker 6: a lot of just well rounded experience that the general
• 14:38
Speaker 6: rank and file person may not get. In the job
• 14:41
  Speaker 6: I'm in, It's very unique. I solve a lot of
• 14:45
Speaker 6: complex problems for attorneys for insurance companies, for businesses, and
• 14:50
Speaker 6: I consider myself a problem solver. Some of these problems
• 14:54
Speaker 6: West Virginia faces are complex. I wish it was as
• 14:57
Speaker 6: easy as just waving a wand saying, oh, we just
• 15:00
Speaker 6: do such and such, all of our problems are going
• 15:02
Speaker 6: to go away. It's not that easy. These are complex problems,
• 15:06
Speaker 6: and there's a lot of issues that's got to be addressed.
• 15:09
Speaker 6: Whether it's the foster care system, the underpaid corrections officers,
• 15:13
Speaker 6: and our prisons and jails, you know, different things. They
• 15:17
Speaker 6: are complex problems, but I believe I'm best suited to
• 15:21
Speaker 6: address those. Do I have time to just squeeze in
• 15:23
  Speaker 6: one more thing?
• 15:24
  Speaker 3: Okay?
• 15:25
Speaker 6: There are a lot of folk, now I won't say
• 15:27
Speaker 6: a lot, but there's a number of folks in West
• 15:29
Speaker 6: Virginia politics, Putnam County included, who are what I call
• 15:33
Speaker 6: Johnny cum Lately's to the conservative movement. I've been a
• 15:37
Speaker 6: lifelong conservative as far back as I can remember. My
• 15:40
Speaker 6: first vote was for Ronald Reagan for president in the
• 15:43
Speaker 6: early eighties. I did not decide when I was an

  Speaker 4: Right.
• 18:48
Speaker 11: We are having our soft opening today, today's first full
• 18:51

• 18:54
Speaker 11: and have you go we didn't open right right right, No,
• 18:56
Speaker 11: we are open. We are having our soft opening today.
• 19:00
  Speaker 5: Just opened up.
• 19:01
Speaker 11: Drive through opened up at eight thirty, lobby opened up
• 19:03
Speaker 11: at nine o'clock. So we are officially open. So we
• 19:06
Speaker 11: would love for anybody to stop by and meet the team.
• 19:10
Speaker 11: Let us shake your hand and learn your story.
• 19:12
Speaker 5: Tell us about Guarantee Bank. Just tell us the overall
• 19:14
Speaker 5: story of the bank. Sure, so Guarantee Bank. You know,
• 19:17
Speaker 5: let me just first say, you know, community banking's back
• 19:19
Speaker 5: in Charleston. You know it's it's been gone for way
• 19:21
Speaker 5: too long. And that's what we are.
• 19:23
Speaker 11: We are a community bank founded in southern West Virginia,
• 19:27
Speaker 11: serving West Virginia for over fifty years. We're expanding our
• 19:30
Speaker 11: footprint to expand that community banking feel.
• 19:34
Speaker 5: You know when we.
• 19:34
Speaker 11: Say that, you know, in Guarantee Bank, community comes first.
• 19:38
Speaker 11: That it's not just a slogan, it's real. And right
• 19:42
Speaker 11: now we are choosing to invest in Charleston because we
• 19:45
Speaker 11: believe in Charleston's future, and we want to grow right
• 19:48
Speaker 11: along with Charleston's families and neighborhoods and businesses. And that's
• 19:52
Speaker 11: what we're here to do.
• 19:53
Speaker 5: I've got a lot of good banks in the area.
• 19:54
Speaker 5: But what is it that makes your bank different? You
• 19:58
Speaker 5: talked about the community feel, but to give us some
• 20:00
Speaker 5: other things that make your bank different?
• 20:02
Speaker 11: Sure, I think when you know, when you call us, uh,
• 20:05
Speaker 11: folks are going to know where you're from. There, You're
• 20:07
Speaker 11: you're going to be talking to somebody that is from here.
• 20:11
Speaker 11: I think, uh, you know, uh, Dave, you're a Southern
• 20:15
Speaker 11: Wes Virginia guy, so you'll you'll understand this. You know,
• 20:17
Speaker 11: if you're uh, if your banker doesn't know, uh know
• 20:20
Speaker 11: your mama's name or where your land lays, and then
• 20:22
Speaker 11: uh you you know, you're you're just borrowing money from
• 20:25
  Speaker 11: a stranger.
• 20:25
  Speaker 3: Uh.
• 20:26
Speaker 11: And And that's who we are. I mean, we we
• 20:27
Speaker 11: believe in community banking. We believe in making local decisions,
• 20:31
Speaker 11: uh locally. We believe in making banking decisions locally uh
• 20:35
Speaker 11: and not out of state. And we think that that matters,
• 20:37
Speaker 11: uh And and we are here to provide that service
• 20:40
Speaker 11: to to UH to Charleston, the Canall Valley.
• 20:42
Speaker 5: Now, I want to talk about the building itself, Josh,
• 20:45
Speaker 5: I had a chance to tor it a couple of
• 20:47
Speaker 5: weeks ago. What a great facility. And for those that
• 20:49
  Speaker 5: don't know, it's I mean, I think it's been a
• 20:50
Speaker 5: variety of things there. Most recently I think it was
• 20:52
Speaker 5: an American Federation for Teachers building. Right, But talk about the
• 20:55
Speaker 5: building itself, because it's it's nice. I'll move my office there.
• 20:59
Speaker 5: If you move, I'm the whole show. You're more than welcome.
• 21:01
Speaker 5: We can setch up a studio right there. No, it
• 21:04
Speaker 5: has traditionally been some type of financial services. It has
• 21:09
Speaker 5: served to some financial services for a number of years.
• 21:12
Speaker 5: I believe it start out originally as Canaw Teachers Credit Union,
• 21:17
Speaker 5: was Pioneer Credit Union a number of years ago. It
• 21:21
Speaker 5: is a large space, and we intentionally and deliberately identified
• 21:27
Speaker 5: that property as a place that we can grow. Right now,
• 21:30
Speaker 5: currently it's going to be staffed with about six folks,
• 21:34
Speaker 5: but there's room to grow. And that's what we intend
• 21:36
Speaker 5: on doing, is growing and serving the people of Charleston
• 21:39
Speaker 5: Kanaw Valley, and that building allows us to do that.
• 21:41
Speaker 11: And it's a great space. You know it's right on
• 21:43
Speaker 11: the boulevard, good Ingress, Egress, good view. People coming up
• 21:47
Speaker 11: and down the boulevard can see it, and we're proud
• 21:50
  Speaker 11: to be there.
• 21:50
Speaker 5: We'll talk about the way banking has changed over the
• 21:54
Speaker 5: last fifteen to twenty. I mean, I'm old enough to
• 21:58
Speaker 5: remember you mentioned south of West Virginia. I no folks
• 22:00
Speaker 5: can Ali Valley can.
• 22:01
  Speaker 12: Uh.
• 22:01
Speaker 5: I can recognize this as well, that when going to
• 22:03
Speaker 5: the bank was a regular thing. You know that you
• 22:06
Speaker 5: got your paycheck and you went to the bank. You
• 22:08
Speaker 5: you you you made Most people probably made a couple
• 22:10
Speaker 5: of trips a week to the bank for one reason
• 22:12
Speaker 5: or another. It's not that way. Talk about the change
• 22:14
Speaker 5: in the evolution of banking over these.
• 22:16
Speaker 11: Sure, I talked about the changes and then and then
• 22:18
Speaker 11: some of the things that I think people hope continue
• 22:21
Speaker 11: to be the same.
• 22:22
  Speaker 5: Uh.
• 22:23
Speaker 11: I think that you know, with regard to the change
• 22:25
Speaker 11: in banking, obviously, you know, technology has has changed banking
• 22:29
Speaker 11: and and and a number of industries and and we've
• 22:32
Speaker 11: grown with that. I mean, we have e banking, We
• 22:35
Speaker 11: have a remote remote deposit capture. You can you know,
• 22:38
Speaker 11: deposit your check with your phone. You can, uh, you
• 22:40
Speaker 11: can go online we have a mobile app that people
• 22:42
Speaker 11: can use. So so we've adopted those technologies for those
• 22:45
Speaker 11: folks that uh, that are comfortable with those technologies, that
• 22:49
Speaker 11: that that can uh that that can use them. But UH,
• 22:52
Speaker 11: we want to continue to provide that community touch that
• 22:54
Speaker 11: has sometimes been lost with uh, with those technological advancements.
• 22:59
Speaker 11: You know, you lose connection sometimes to be able to
• 23:02
Speaker 11: make those local decisions. And so while we have adopted
• 23:05
Speaker 11: all of those modern technologies and all those modern strategies,
• 23:09
Speaker 11: we don't want to lose that community touch and that
• 23:11
Speaker 11: local feel. And we think we strike a good balance
• 23:16
Speaker 11: with those changes but also with the continuity that we
• 23:18
  Speaker 11: think people appreciate.
• 23:20
Speaker 5: Talk about your other locations, because this is your first
• 23:22
Speaker 5: location here in the Charleston area, but you've got other locations. Sure,
• 23:25
Speaker 5: We've still got our three branches in Mingo County about
• 23:28
Speaker 5: fifteen minutes past about in place in the logan is
• 23:31
Speaker 5: our main branch. We have a branch in del Barton
• 23:34
Speaker 5: and Gilbert. But we also, as I mentioned, you know,
• 23:36
Speaker 5: we are expanding our footprint and we recently opened up
• 23:40
Speaker 5: branch in Wayne right across from the courthouse last summer.
• 23:45
Speaker 5: So we're expanding that footprint, trying to take that community
• 23:49
Speaker 5: banking into other markets so we continue to serve the
• 23:52
Speaker 5: customers that we have. I think it's interesting again we're
• 23:55
Speaker 5: talking to Josh Showers, who's the president and CEO of
• 23:58
Speaker 5: Guarantee Bank, opening today in Charleston onto Boulevard. I think
• 24:02
Speaker 5: it's it's kind of interesting too that they say, Josh,
• 24:04
Speaker 5: everything that is old is new again, right. And you know,
• 24:07
Speaker 5: fifteen twenty years ago everything was marching towards the future.
• 24:10
Speaker 5: You've kept those things, but now you're kind of going
• 24:12
Speaker 5: I don't say going backwards, that's not the right word,
• 24:14
Speaker 5: but but you're trying to, as you said, bring in
• 24:16
Speaker 5: what we know is community banking, sure to Charleston.
• 24:19
Speaker 11: Sure, and and and I think you know, a lot
• 24:21
Speaker 11: of folks, you know, we have a lot of mergers
• 24:22
Speaker 11: and a lot of acquisitions going on with bigger banks
• 24:25
Speaker 11: and and and and they serve their purpose for sure.
• 24:28
Speaker 11: But I think what we're seeing and what we've heard
• 24:30
Speaker 11: and people that we are beginning to serve and have
• 24:33
Speaker 11: served that you know, there are small business customers that
• 24:36
Speaker 11: are starting to feel overlooked and and and we think
• 24:40
Speaker 11: that you with you know, with some of the advances
• 24:42
Speaker 11: with some of the uh just you know market forces
• 24:45
Speaker 11: that have been been out there, that it opens up
• 24:49
Speaker 11: an opportunity, you know, you know for us and others
• 24:52
Speaker 11: to serve those folks that that may feel overlooked.
• 24:55
Speaker 5: And that's what we're here to do. Had a text
• 24:56
Speaker 5: of the show that somebody wanted to know if you
• 24:58
Speaker 5: do a if you have a trust department. Uh, we
• 25:00
Speaker 5: do not have a trust department, but we but we
• 25:03
Speaker 5: but we can't open up trust accounts. Okay, we don't
• 25:05
Speaker 5: have a full fledged apartment, but we can't do that.
• 25:07
Speaker 5: All right, And we're gonna be seeing you a lot
• 25:09
Speaker 5: around the community as well, because I mean, this is
• 25:11
Speaker 5: going to be you guys are going to be very,
• 25:12
Speaker 5: very heavily involved in the city of Charleston in the
• 25:14
Speaker 5: Kanaal Valley talk about some of those things.
• 25:16
Speaker 11: Yes, I mean, as I mentioned, you know, you call
• 25:19
Speaker 11: the Brandon Charleston, you know, you're you're going to talk
• 25:21
Speaker 11: to somebody that that that is from here. We have
• 25:24
Speaker 11: hired a staff that is from Charleston, so they're very
• 25:26
Speaker 11: familiar with folks I am.
• 25:28
  Speaker 3: Uh.
• 25:29
Speaker 11: You know, prior to my time at Guarantee Bank, I
• 25:33
Speaker 11: worked in Charleston for twenty years. You know, whether I
• 25:35
Speaker 11: started out in the public education system, work in state
• 25:37
Speaker 11: government for a while, I'm very familiar with Charleston, very
• 25:40
Speaker 11: familiar with its people and its businesses and the families here.
• 25:43
Speaker 11: And so yes, we're gonna be uh you know, we're
• 25:46
Speaker 11: we're starting out today, starting out you know, prior to
• 25:49
Speaker 11: actually we've had we've had uh, you know, folks on
• 25:51
Speaker 11: staff already serving folks uh here in the valley. So
• 25:54
Speaker 11: you're going to see us more. You're going to hear
• 25:56
Speaker 11: about us more, and and and we're here to serve.
• 25:59
Speaker 5: Talking to joshtown again, who's the president's CEO of Guarantee
• 26:02
Speaker 5: Bank the Dave Island Show on five, Edeline Brancho a
• 26:04
Speaker 5: pirted by Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm.
• 26:07
Speaker 5: Do you need people? Do you need employees? Because that's
• 26:10
Speaker 5: it's a big thing with you know, a lot of
• 26:11
Speaker 5: places they right now, right now, we're fully staffed again.
• 26:15
Speaker 5: We we hired new staff for this Charleston branch. That
• 26:18
Speaker 5: but you know, our intention is is for is for
• 26:20
Speaker 5: the Charleston branch to grow and and to need more
• 26:24
Speaker 5: folks in the future. As I mentioned the building that
• 26:27
Speaker 5: you alluded to a while ago. It's a big building
• 26:29
Speaker 5: and we bought it intentionally to be able to grow,
• 26:32
Speaker 5: to grow within that building. And so we will, you know,
• 26:36
Speaker 5: hopefully sooner rather than later, need more individuals and staffing
• 26:40
Speaker 5: to help serve the community. What are the hours of
• 26:42
  Speaker 5: the bank?
• 26:43
Speaker 11: So drive through of them to day thirty Monday through Friday,
• 26:46
Speaker 11: and lobby of them's up at nine. We stay up
• 26:49
Speaker 11: until five thirty on Monday through Thursday, steven six on Fridays.
• 26:53
Speaker 5: And what's something I do with my political candidates? I've
• 26:56
Speaker 5: interviewed a lot. I'm going to give you an opportunity
• 26:57
Speaker 5: to that as well. I call it the Final thirty.
• 26:59
Speaker 5: But it's not it's not time. Why should somebody choose
• 27:02
  Speaker 5: Guarantee Bank?
• 27:03
Speaker 11: Again, I think somebody should choose Guarantee Bank if you
• 27:06
Speaker 11: if you want a local touch, if you want a
• 27:08
Speaker 11: local feel, if you want to know someone, if you
• 27:10
Speaker 11: want to come into a bank or call a bank
• 27:12
Speaker 11: and they know where you live and understand the area
• 27:16
Speaker 11: and are truly invested in this community and our staff
• 27:20
Speaker 11: by people who are from here and invest in this community.
• 27:22
Speaker 11: That comebin and see us has said before, we want
• 27:25
Speaker 11: to hear your story. We want to shake your hand
• 27:27
Speaker 11: and we want to be a part of your success,
• 27:29
Speaker 11: and so we'd appreciate the business that on thirteen to

Speaker 2: Running a business in the Kanaw Valley means dealing with
• 28:47
Speaker 2: a lot at once, customers, employees, deadlines, and one hundred
• 28:50
Speaker 2: little problems that pop up during the day. Technology shouldn't

Speaker 5: Danny Jones is here reminder though, that the announcement is
• 32:32
Speaker 5: coming at ten thirty this morning at the Incova offices
• 32:36
Speaker 5: on Courrier Street about the entertainment lineup for this year's
• 32:39
Speaker 5: Stern will for God and go ahead now and get
• 32:42
Speaker 5: ready to start complaining because they're not bringing in exactly
• 32:45
Speaker 5: who it is that you want to see. You've heard
• 32:47
Speaker 5: me talk about it before. The amount of people who
• 32:49
Speaker 5: complained about free entertainment is astounding to me. So just
• 32:53
Speaker 5: to keep my blood pressure down, I think I'll just
• 32:55
Speaker 5: stay off social media this afternoon. Hey, look, w's here.
• 32:57
Speaker 5: It's Danny Jones. How you doing, my friend good? Have
• 33:00
Speaker 5: you noticed the number of people that complained about free entertainment?
• 33:04
  Speaker 9: Oh?
• 33:04
Speaker 14: They did that when not the Regoda went broke one
• 33:10
Speaker 14: and Jay Goldman says, why don't you take it this year?
• 33:14
Speaker 14: And I took it and made ninety two thousand dollars
• 33:18
Speaker 14: And the people complained.
• 33:21
Speaker 5: I just I mean, and people like what they like,
• 33:23
Speaker 5: and I get that. But but when this announcement is
• 33:25
Speaker 5: made at ten thirty, hundreds of comments on our site,
• 33:28
Speaker 5: the TV station sites, whatever, they'll say, well, why don't
• 33:30
Speaker 5: they bring anybody? Well, it's free you know, it's something
• 33:34
Speaker 5: bring anybody good, and they don't understand the way concerts work,
• 33:38
Speaker 5: you know, And it costs, I mean a lot of
• 33:40
Speaker 5: money to bring I mean, people have no idea what
• 33:42
  Speaker 5: it actually costs.
• 33:43
  Speaker 14: They don't know who's available.
• 33:45
  Speaker 5: It's about availability.
• 33:47
  Speaker 14: Uh.
• 33:47
Speaker 5: And it's also it's not just the artists themselves. It
• 33:50
Speaker 5: cost a lot of money to bring these people in.
• 33:53
Speaker 5: And I'm talking about for the sound equipment and the state.
• 33:57
Speaker 5: Many times artists I've been in this business for you know,
• 34:00
Speaker 5: artists will come in with an exact we have to
• 34:03
Speaker 5: have this this kind of lighting and whatever, and if
• 34:07
Speaker 5: you don't have it, then then there's no show.
• 34:09
Speaker 14: It's the State still up on the boulevard.
• 34:13
Speaker 5: The State, the stage on the stage. Yeah.
• 34:16
Speaker 14: Yeah, they don't do it down in the down the park.
• 34:19
Speaker 5: No, no, no, it's no, it's on stage.
• 34:21
Speaker 14: That's twenty to forty grand if not.
• 34:23
Speaker 5: That's the conservative figure. I mean. But but you're right
• 34:26
Speaker 5: about that. So you got any good REGARTSA stories for
• 34:29
Speaker 5: me before we get into more serious stuff.
• 34:32
Speaker 14: No, it was that's Saturday night. I had Taylor Dane
• 34:38
Speaker 14: booked and also had Winston Walls booked and it rained,
• 34:42
Speaker 14: Yeah until we didn't get to here.
• 34:44
Speaker 5: There's nothing that you can do about the weather. I
• 34:46
Speaker 5: mean that's another thing too, when you're talking. I mean
• 34:48
Speaker 5: you can have around the fourth of July, you can
• 34:51
Speaker 5: have you know, sweltering heats. You can have lightning, which
• 34:54
Speaker 5: we had a couple of years ago. I mean, there's
• 34:56
Speaker 5: nothing you can do about in the weather.
• 34:58
  Speaker 3: All right.
• 34:58
Speaker 5: So I was in Morgan Town Saturday, Danny, as I mentioned,
• 35:02
Speaker 5: for the Broadcast Association Awards, when the word broke about
• 35:06
Speaker 5: what happened at the White House correspondence dinner with President Trump.
• 35:10
Speaker 14: Your thoughts, I don't know, what do they not know
• 35:20
Speaker 14: to expect this kind of stuff. I mean, he ran
• 35:24
Speaker 14: through there like Bob Hayes. I mean I don't get it.
• 35:31
Speaker 14: I don't get why he wasn't caught before before he
• 35:34
  Speaker 14: was caught.
• 35:35
Speaker 5: Yeah, and he had booked the room months in advance.
• 35:38
  Speaker 14: Well that's different.
• 35:39
  Speaker 2: Now.
• 35:39
Speaker 5: My point is is that he's not somebody that just
• 35:41
Speaker 5: like walked in off the street. He he had he'd booked,
• 35:45
Speaker 5: you know, to be there in advance. So uh, but
• 35:48
Speaker 5: but I agree with you. What about all these conspiracy theories?
• 35:51
Speaker 5: Do you know? Because I mean, as soon here's the thing,
• 35:53
Speaker 5: about it, Danny. If you are pro Trump, then you
• 35:56
Speaker 5: are going to see it as obviously a tragedy. If
• 35:59
Speaker 5: you're anti tr Trump and my anti Trump people you know,
• 36:03
Speaker 5: hit it immediately saying all staged, all fake. That Butler
• 36:06
Speaker 5: Pennsylvania may or may not have been real, but this
• 36:10
Speaker 5: entire thing was fake because afterwards the president gives a
• 36:13
Speaker 5: speech about why he needs ballroom. It does raise some suspicions.
• 36:17
  Speaker 5: I'll believe it.
• 36:17
Speaker 14: I'll leave it there.
• 36:18
Speaker 5: I don't know where I am on that. But your
• 36:20
Speaker 5: thought about people saying the whole thing was faked.
• 36:24
Speaker 14: It wasn't fake. And the second thing is I had
• 36:27
Speaker 14: a lady yesterday morning that I work out with who's
• 36:34
Speaker 14: I've never used the term. She has Trump arrangement syndrome.
• 36:39
Speaker 14: And she came up to me and she said, well,
• 36:41
Speaker 14: when you precht, that's what happened. When you're what when
• 36:45
Speaker 14: you preach hat oh prechate Okay, okay, yeah, that's what happened.
• 36:48
Speaker 14: And I thought, I'm going to go work. Let me
• 36:52
Speaker 14: go with some weight. I mean, it's just crazy. He
• 36:56
Speaker 14: was sitting up there with his wife, you know, and
• 37:00
Speaker 14: I think I was kind of glad he was back there.
• 37:02
Speaker 14: I mean the President.
• 37:05
Speaker 5: Yeah, and he had boycotted this because one thing that
• 37:09
Speaker 5: we all know about Donald Trump and those that are
• 37:11
Speaker 5: close to him is he does not have much of
• 37:13
Speaker 5: a sense of humor. He cannot stand He can't make
• 37:16
Speaker 5: fun of himself like other presidents have done, like Reagan did,
• 37:19
Speaker 5: and like Bush did, and like Clinton and Obama did.
• 37:22
Speaker 5: He does not do that, and he has stayed away
• 37:26
Speaker 5: from this. It was interesting was before I left for
• 37:28
Speaker 5: Morgantown Saturday, I was flipping through the channels and I
• 37:31
Speaker 5: had it on CNN, and I don't know who the
• 37:33
Speaker 5: guy was. He has his own show on CNN. But
• 37:36
Speaker 5: he was given the president advice about what to do
• 37:38
Speaker 5: at the White House correspondence dinner, and of course this
• 37:41
Speaker 5: was obviously hours before what you know, the attempt on
• 37:43
Speaker 5: his life. But he said, mister President, can you know
• 37:47
Speaker 5: you're to be commended for going have some fun, laugh
• 37:52
Speaker 5: a little bit, make fun of yourself, you know, And
• 37:56
Speaker 5: because that's not something he is is known for. I
• 38:01
Speaker 5: think that Trump derangement syndrome goes both ways. I think
• 38:04
Speaker 5: that there are a lot of people whose very existence
• 38:08
Speaker 5: is to speak out against Donald Trump. That's they get
• 38:11
Speaker 5: up in the morning and they start doing it like
• 38:12
Speaker 5: the person you mentioned. But I also think that Trump
• 38:15
Speaker 5: derangement syndrome can people can be people who worship the
• 38:18
Speaker 5: guy and that can't see any fault in him. Whatsoever.
• 38:23
Speaker 14: He gets to know, he gets very little free rent
• 38:27
  Speaker 14: in my mind, I don't. I just don't. I mean,
• 38:32
Speaker 14: I'll read the the national papers in the morning, but
• 38:38
  Speaker 14: I just don't.
• 38:40
Speaker 5: To me, I mean, I'm as you know my story.
• 38:43
Speaker 5: I voted for Trump twice. I did not vote for
• 38:45
Speaker 5: him the last time. I'm not a Trump guy. If
• 38:47
Speaker 5: I went off the went off the Trump train January sixth. Okay, However,
• 38:52
Speaker 5: I want him to do well. I want the country
• 38:55
Speaker 5: to do well. That makes me a decent American, I
• 38:58
Speaker 5: think because I don't wake up every morning, you know,
• 39:00
Speaker 5: and immediately hit social media and say, how how can
• 39:03
Speaker 5: I make fun? How can I trash Donald Trump today?
• 39:06
Speaker 5: Because I'm not gonna let him live rent free. In
• 39:08
Speaker 5: my head, He's the president. The people voted for him,
• 39:12
Speaker 5: so be it to why it works in theory Texas,
• 39:16
Speaker 5: Lord of Guy here Dave. Fake news media and Democrats
• 39:18
Speaker 5: had their hopes dashed last night that Donald Trump wasn't
• 39:21
Speaker 5: assassinated in a third attempt. They had hoped this was
• 39:26
Speaker 5: it and was prepared to celebrate into the night of
• 39:28
Speaker 5: the death of the president and are furious that it failed.
• 39:32
Speaker 14: Well, I think that's the other side you're talking about.
• 39:36
Speaker 14: You were talking about the other side of the Trump arrangements. Yeah, yeah,
• 39:41
Speaker 14: And I think that that illustrates it right there.
• 39:44
Speaker 5: Yeah. Well, okay, somebody sent me something that is way
• 39:48
Speaker 5: too much to read. Let me just read some of it.
• 39:52
Speaker 5: As I watched what happened Saturday night, I was screaming
• 39:54
Speaker 5: to my television it was you people there in that
• 39:56
Speaker 5: room who contributed to this evil Then they are shot
• 40:00
Speaker 5: and ask how could this happen? Twenty five percent of
• 40:03
Speaker 5: very liberal people say political violence can sometimes be justified,
• 40:06
Speaker 5: among the conservative people at just three percent. In other words,
• 40:09
Speaker 5: the far left is eight times more likely to support
• 40:12
Speaker 5: political violence as the far right. Stop pretending this is
• 40:15
Speaker 5: a both sides problem.
• 40:16
  Speaker 3: It's not.
• 40:20
Speaker 14: There are people, and the left is trying to find
• 40:27
Speaker 14: somebody to replace Joe Rogan, and they've got a guy
• 40:33
Speaker 14: and I don't know his name, but I saw him,
• 40:37
Speaker 14: and he'd think it was perfectly justified to have shot
• 40:41
Speaker 14: that healthcare CEO and the rear a lot of.
• 40:43
Speaker 5: People think that. Yeah, I mean people that I seemingly,
• 40:48
Speaker 5: seemingly normal, nice people said that about the shooting of
• 40:51
Speaker 5: the United United Healthcare CEO, that well, it's terrible that
• 40:55
Speaker 5: it happened because of his wife and kids. But look
• 40:57
Speaker 5: how many deaths he's caused. When you start thinking like that.
• 41:00
Speaker 14: What did he call?
• 41:02
Speaker 5: Well because of their words, mismanagement of health systems and
• 41:06
Speaker 5: rising with this mismanagement. Hassan Piker is the person that
• 41:14
Speaker 5: somebody texted in I.
• 41:15
  Speaker 3: Guess that's it.
• 41:15
Speaker 5: Okay, that's a guy, Okay, all right, but we've got there's.
• 41:20
Speaker 14: Nothing attractive about his delivery, nothing about what he says. Nothing, okay.
• 41:26
Speaker 14: J Rgan's funny, Yeah, I get his CLI started out
• 41:29
Speaker 14: in comedy. He was the host of The Man Show.
• 41:31
Speaker 14: He was the second of The Man Show on Comedy Central.
• 41:35
Speaker 14: He's funny and I enjoy him.
• 41:39
Speaker 5: I just wish we had more people that that. I mean.
• 41:42
Speaker 5: The thing about Rushling Baugh that what in Rushling Bass
• 41:45
Speaker 5: single handily saved talk radio and AM radio. He made
• 41:49
Speaker 5: talk radio, but Rush Rush did things with a sense
• 41:55
Speaker 5: of humor. I mean, to a certain extent. Now, some
• 41:59
Speaker 5: of the things left a lot of people call the
• 42:01
Speaker 5: homeless updates and things of that nature. But Rush, you know,
• 42:04
Speaker 5: when when people don't really When Rush was saying with
• 42:07
Speaker 5: you know, the talent on loan from God and these
• 42:10
Speaker 5: things that he said, he was basically making fun of
• 42:12
Speaker 5: himself and well, we just don't have that sense of humor.
• 42:15
Speaker 14: When it really changed, when he really picked up stem
• 42:19
Speaker 14: was nineteen ninety and it was during I started listening, yeah,
• 42:23
Speaker 14: during Desert Storm. And he had the characters, all the
• 42:29
Speaker 14: characters are going to play all the parts. And he
• 42:34
Speaker 14: had himself playing Norman Schwartzkoff, you know, he had he
• 42:39
Speaker 14: had he had these actors playing all these parts. And
• 42:44
Speaker 14: there was Mitt Snyder who was the homeless advocate. Mitt
• 42:50
Speaker 14: Snyder came here one time. He was the homeless advocate.
• 42:53
Speaker 14: He was the guy who wore camouflage, and he was
• 42:57
Speaker 14: very well known nationally, and Rush called him the dust
• 43:01
Speaker 14: of the Desert Storm. I mean, it was just, I mean,
• 43:08
Speaker 14: Rush changed in ninety two when Busor lost the election
• 43:17
Speaker 14: and they started getting serious. Now you started, I mean,
• 43:22
Speaker 14: you started going after Clinton a little hard. I thought,
• 43:26
Speaker 14: I mean, what's the big deal?
• 43:28
  Speaker 10: Why?
• 43:29
  Speaker 14: I don't know too much.
• 43:31
Speaker 5: For me, Tex says the only Trump derangement syndrome is
• 43:35
Speaker 5: in his own hateful, demented mind. To journalist Nora O'Donnell
• 43:38
Speaker 5: in sixty minute, Trump said, I was waiting for you
• 43:40
Speaker 5: to read that because I know you would, because you're
• 43:43
  Speaker 5: a horrible person. I'm not a rapist. I didn't rape anybody.
• 43:45
Speaker 5: I'm not a pedophile. Excuse me, you read that crap
• 43:47
Speaker 5: from a sick person. I was totally exonerated. You should
• 43:50
Speaker 5: be ashamed of yourself reading that. You're a disgrace. That's
• 43:52
Speaker 5: what he said. According to the texture to Nora o'donn.
• 43:57
Speaker 14: I don't. I'm not aware of that, and exonerated.
• 44:03
Speaker 5: Text says Joe Rogan was not the host of The
• 44:05
Speaker 5: Man Show. It was Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla. Joe
• 44:08
Speaker 5: Rogan started on news radio and then hosted Fear Factor.
• 44:11
Speaker 5: Dims forget that they did have Joe Rogan until they
• 44:13
Speaker 5: started yelling calling him a nutcase. Now, Joe, I'm gonna
• 44:18
Speaker 5: take issue with that. Joe Rogan was the second host
• 44:20
Speaker 5: of The Man Show, he and Doug Stone. The text
• 44:23
Speaker 5: is right, Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carola had the original,
• 44:26
Speaker 5: but when that went away, Rogan was the host of
• 44:29
  Speaker 5: The Man.
• 44:29
Speaker 14: In twenty sixteen, he endorsed Bernie Sanders.
