Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Football four is powered by the Inside the Birds podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Adam Kaplan is here today. He's actually out here. Most
- 0:07Speaker 1: not out here, checko not out here. We got great
- 0:09Speaker 1: co sella pinchit for both those guys.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 0:11Speaker 1: You're doing the role of two guys at one time.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Guys, that's a lot of pressure. That's a lot of pressure.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Mike Hill, Scott Rason. Of course, we're hosting the whole
- 0:18Speaker 1: week here for you. We got football at four. We're
- 0:21Speaker 1: gonna shifting back to the Birds here, which has been crazy.
- 0:25Speaker 1: We got off the air at three to oho one,
- 0:28Speaker 1: Local Times six to oh one and Jeff Stallen was
- 0:32Speaker 1: no longer employed by the Philadelphia Eagles. It starts a
- 0:34Speaker 1: firestorm of like what happened? They got a new run
- 0:39Speaker 1: game coordinator today. They already hired a new guy here.
- 0:41Speaker 3: I saw that.
- 0:42Speaker 1: So we're Ryan Mahaffey, by the way, is the new guy.
- 0:45Speaker 1: He was in Green Bay. He was the wide receivers
- 0:47Speaker 1: coach in Green Bay. Which kind of stinks is we
- 0:49Speaker 1: had Romeo Dobbs on yesterday. We talked to him about
- 0:52Speaker 1: Manion and he spoke glowingly about man We didn't get
- 0:55Speaker 1: a chance to ask about mahaffey because we did not
- 0:57Speaker 1: know at the time that being said, Is this an
- 1:00Speaker 1: indication to you guys that the Eagles are ready to
- 1:05Speaker 1: change the scheme and the system that they have been
- 1:08Speaker 1: running over the Sirianni era.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Yes, because coaches coach what they know, and Manion has
- 1:15Speaker 4: been in basically the McVeigh system. He's obviously been with Lafleur,
- 1:23Speaker 4: so that's the Shanahan system, so you know he's schooled
- 1:27Speaker 4: in that.
- 1:28Speaker 3: So he's going to coach that.
- 1:30Speaker 4: And obviously by hiring him, that means that Siriani.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I assume Siriani had to sign off on it.
- 1:36Speaker 4: I don't know the dynamic in the building, but I
- 1:38Speaker 4: assume he had to sign off on it. So I
- 1:40Speaker 4: think they're looking to change the direction and challenge the offense.
- 1:45Speaker 3: I mean, let me ask you guys this, how was
- 1:47Speaker 3: the Eagles offense this season? In your mind? It was terrible?
- 1:50Speaker 3: And how did the season end? Awful?
- 1:55Speaker 4: So, sometimes when that happens, when you expect to be
- 1:58Speaker 4: in a Super Bowl every year, and that's what should
- 2:01Speaker 4: be the objective, then they made changes and they probably
- 2:04Speaker 4: they felt it was time for really meaningful changes, which
- 2:07Speaker 4: I have.
- 2:08Speaker 1: No problem with. You said, how was offense this year?
- 2:12Speaker 1: How was the offense year before and even before that
- 2:14Speaker 1: in the year before that? Okay, how would you just
- 2:16Speaker 1: would you guys describe offense?
- 2:19Speaker 4: Let me get maximized. Let me ask you this. So
- 2:22Speaker 4: in twenty twenty four, they won the Super Bowl? Correct, Yes, Okay,
- 2:25Speaker 4: they had an historic season from a running back.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Correct.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Okay, the quarterback had nine games in which he did
- 2:31Speaker 4: not throw for two hundred yards. Okay, Now they won,
- 2:35Speaker 4: So you can never you can't like that. That's for
- 2:38Speaker 4: most people, that's the end of the conversation. But for
- 2:41Speaker 4: coaches that's not the end of the conversation because that
- 2:45Speaker 4: ultimately is not good enough as a sustaining way to
- 2:48Speaker 4: play in the NFL. You can't play with your quarterback
- 2:52Speaker 4: for whatever reason. This is not a blame on Jalen Hurts.
- 2:54Speaker 4: And we're talking about a pass game that for nine
- 2:57Speaker 4: of the games that Jalen Hurts started that they did
- 3:01Speaker 4: not throw for two hundred yards.
- 3:03Speaker 3: That's not sustainable. I agree with you one hundred percent.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So are we about to see a coordinator and a
- 3:08Speaker 1: coaching staff relied more on the.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Quarterback or what they have done in the past.
- 3:13Speaker 1: The running back slash offensive line.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Quarterbacker could run right.
- 3:17Speaker 4: I think it becomes a convention, Mike. I think what
- 3:20Speaker 4: they're going to do, And I could be dead wrong,
- 3:22Speaker 4: but I think the very nature of what they did
- 3:24Speaker 4: with the hirings indicates that they want to challenge Jalen
- 3:27Speaker 4: Hurts and ask him to do things that he hasn't
- 3:31Speaker 4: really been asked to do a lot of over the
- 3:33Speaker 4: last couple of years.
- 3:34Speaker 3: And they want to challenge him.
- 3:36Speaker 5: Is that because they are considering or trying to figure
- 3:39Speaker 5: out if Jalen Hurts is their quarterback beyond because he's
- 3:43Speaker 5: going to be due for an extension here a couple
- 3:45Speaker 5: in a couple of years.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a great question.
- 3:47Speaker 4: I mean, you know, Adam probably could speak to that
- 3:49Speaker 4: better than I.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Look, the guy's been in.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Two of the last four Super Bowls, obviously counting this year.
- 3:54Speaker 3: You know, he was an MVP and last year.
- 3:57Speaker 4: So look, going into this season, there were many people,
- 4:01Speaker 4: smart people who said, hey, he reached the level of
- 4:03Speaker 4: being a top five quarterback in the league because of
- 4:05Speaker 4: getting to Super Bowls. But I think if you're in
- 4:09Speaker 4: that building and you're studying the tape and you know,
- 4:11Speaker 4: you know that he's a nice player. He has certain
- 4:14Speaker 4: strengths and certain limitations, and in many ways he's a piece.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And if you can't.
- 4:21Speaker 4: Run the ball, the question becomes is Jalen Hurts the
- 4:25Speaker 4: guy that you know, can Jalen Hurts, you know, go
- 4:29Speaker 4: twenty seven for forty two for three eighty in a
- 4:31Speaker 4: game that demands that.
- 4:33Speaker 2: That's a great question.
- 4:34Speaker 4: I mean, is that is that an obvious yes? You
- 4:36Speaker 4: would you say that's an obvious I would.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Not say that's an obvious yes. Yeah, Greg.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I would also the two games that you've asked him
- 4:43Speaker 1: to do it, he's done it?
- 4:45Speaker 3: Which games? Super Bowl in twenty twenty three? Yes, in
- 4:49Speaker 3: twenty that he had a very good super Bowl in
- 4:51Speaker 3: twenty three, right, And I wouldn't say that you can't
- 4:53Speaker 3: take that away. Oh he's had games. Right, So it's
- 4:55Speaker 3: like we're not talking about a bottom.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Third quarterback right right? He is pulling the point is
- 5:00Speaker 4: the point is they're telling you what they think. You know,
- 5:03Speaker 4: people are probably gonna listen to this and go kachhol
- 5:06Speaker 4: They're telling you what they We don't have to guess, Mike.
- 5:09Speaker 4: They made a dramatic change in what the offense they're
- 5:13Speaker 4: going to run all right.
- 5:14Speaker 6: So, speaking of that, Greg, what I thought was clearly deliberate.
- 5:18Speaker 6: Almost every candidate they interviewed is from the West Coast system.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Yeah, they won a Dave Ball.
- 5:22Speaker 6: As I told people three weeks ago, just to ignore it.
- 5:25Speaker 2: He's not coming here.
- 5:26Speaker 6: He's gonna go to Tennessee because the both head the
- 5:29Speaker 6: top head coaching candidates.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Wanted him, and then the GM wanted them.
- 5:32Speaker 6: So that was over with. But almost every guy the
- 5:36Speaker 6: interviewed Mike at a West Coast background.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Yeah and half he's in here. Boy, he's gonna be
- 5:40Speaker 2: the tenants coaches. I understand it.
- 5:41Speaker 6: Not just the one game important direct Okay, they've almost
- 5:44Speaker 6: flipped the entire staff. Yeah, and a lot, almost all
- 5:47Speaker 6: of them micro from the West coastystem. They're as Greg
- 5:49Speaker 6: just said, they're telling her, they're telling you the system
- 5:52Speaker 6: and that and that's a good thing though, right, Yeah,
- 5:54Speaker 6: I think it's a good thing. Right.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And so Sirianni right now is getting a lot of
- 5:57Speaker 1: heat of like what happened with Stalin, This is your fault,
- 5:59Speaker 1: like you disrespected him or is it the other way
- 6:02Speaker 1: of him saying, you know what, we did something my
- 6:04Speaker 1: way for five years. I gotta let it go and
- 6:05Speaker 1: it's time for me to change or did they.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Force him to do that? Now, I think it's the ladder.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I mean, we don't know, we're not in the building,
- 6:10Speaker 3: but I.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Think it's the ladder. I think that they probably had
- 6:13Speaker 4: a lot of meetings. I can tell you for a
- 6:15Speaker 4: fact from somebody I know very well that Jeffrey Lury
- 6:18Speaker 4: was incredibly pissed off. Oh and that he was very
- 6:22Speaker 4: involved in what happened. So you know, I my guess
- 6:26Speaker 4: is that it came from the top, that there were changes.
- 6:29Speaker 6: They told you that you know, we don't have to
- 6:31Speaker 6: he was in the mike Jeffrey when it's not good,
- 6:35Speaker 6: like jeff and I put this out after the awful
- 6:37Speaker 6: Bucks loss.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Then the twenty three season, Jeffrey's super upset. We'll see
- 6:42Speaker 2: what happens.
- 6:44Speaker 1: He well, what did Mayok tell us was so Scott
- 6:49Speaker 1: and not the other day? It's not coach quarterback, it's
- 6:52Speaker 1: most important, it's GM coach. That they're on the same page.
- 6:57Speaker 1: So do we think that GM coach in Philly are
- 6:59Speaker 1: now on the same page and weren't or them being
- 7:03Speaker 1: on the same page as them saying Statland, sorry, it's over.
- 7:07Speaker 2: It's let me as you said this on your question,
- 7:10Speaker 2: Greg and Mike and.
- 7:11Speaker 6: Scotty, this is deliberate to change the system.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Yep, okay, this my understanding has been. It's uh.
- 7:19Speaker 6: I started getting win of this, like when we started
- 7:21Speaker 6: seeing the names come out, and then Jeff and I
- 7:23Speaker 6: on inside the Birds had some stuff and like, okay,
- 7:27Speaker 6: this is not like them to want to run a
- 7:29Speaker 6: pure West coast system.
- 7:30Speaker 2: What is going on here?
- 7:32Speaker 6: Well, they tried it when Doug was forced to hire
- 7:35Speaker 6: Rich Gangarello.
- 7:36Speaker 2: That was a disaster. You can't force it. Nick had
- 7:40Speaker 2: to be on board.
- 7:40Speaker 6: And by the way, the offensive system that Nick really
- 7:42Speaker 6: brought in in twenty twenty one on a West coast
- 7:45Speaker 6: but as close as we were told then it was
- 7:47Speaker 6: a timing based system. But because Hurts doesn't play with
- 7:49Speaker 6: time and Scott, as you and I were talking about, yes, straight,
- 7:52Speaker 6: not good enough.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Greg knows better than anybody.
- 7:54Speaker 4: They're basically telling Jalen now that we're challenging.
- 7:58Speaker 2: You, it's a good point.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Well, do you remember when when Jalen when Nick first
- 8:02Speaker 1: got here and he called the plays. They were throwing
- 8:04Speaker 1: the ball forty times a games twenty one, Yeah, right,
- 8:08Speaker 1: and then he said we got to change this, we
- 8:10Speaker 1: got start running the ball and then well that's because.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Where Nick came from.
- 8:14Speaker 4: You know, he came from Philip rivers and quarterbacks that
- 8:17Speaker 4: were capable of doing that, and they found out then.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Now, that was four or five years ago.
- 8:22Speaker 4: So I don't want to say what canon can't be
- 8:24Speaker 4: done right now, but back then, Jalen wasn't capable.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Of that game eight of the twenty twenty one season.
- 8:30Speaker 1: The Eagles as we now know them, were born right.
- 8:32Speaker 1: They became a run first team because of that offensive line.
- 8:35Speaker 5: Correct, when you're fascinating me, Greg with this whole theory
- 8:39Speaker 5: about how they're going to challenge Jalen, And I think
- 8:41Speaker 5: listening to you, I think you're right.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Through what you've seen. Even going back to him in college.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Is he going to be able to get the ball.
- 8:47Speaker 5: Out quickly as we talked about yesterday, Adam.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Could he get it out of me quickly enough?
- 8:52Speaker 4: Look, I could well be wrong because they made this decision, Okay,
- 8:56Speaker 4: and there's a lot of smart people in that building.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Okay.
- 8:59Speaker 4: I don't don't see Jalen as let's say, a Kyle Shanahan.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Type quarterback, but could he be more? And I'm not
- 9:07Speaker 3: compared to what I'm saying now is not apples to apples,
- 9:10Speaker 3: So I hope people don't take it that way.
- 9:11Speaker 4: But could he theoretically be more in the McVey vein
- 9:15Speaker 4: of a Stafford Now Again, I hope people don't think
- 9:17Speaker 4: I'm saying he's Matthew Stafford, who in my view as
- 9:20Speaker 4: a Hall of Famer, but that while there's major timing
- 9:24Speaker 4: involved in that system, it's not as quick rhythm.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Necessarily. The Shanahan system is incredibly quick rhythm.
- 9:31Speaker 4: I personally don't believe that that fits Jalen's style. I
- 9:34Speaker 4: would maybe they see something that I don't, and like
- 9:38Speaker 4: I said, they have smart Look, if you're trying to
- 9:40Speaker 4: be fair, I know Siriani's probably getting ripped. I'm not
- 9:43Speaker 4: in Philly right now. I don't I don't listen anyway
- 9:46Speaker 4: to sports talk radio. But I'm sure ciriannig what's that? Yeah,
- 9:51Speaker 4: I'm sure Sirianni's getting ripped. But you know, Sirianni's won
- 9:54Speaker 4: a lot of games and head coach, we're not in
- 9:56Speaker 4: the building. We don't know the division of labor, we
- 9:59Speaker 4: don't know what's done. But the reality is he's won
- 10:01Speaker 4: a lot of games. His record's pretty damn good. You
- 10:03Speaker 4: can't say he's a bad head coach. They've won a
- 10:06Speaker 4: lot of games, and they've been in two of the
- 10:08Speaker 4: last four Super Bowls and won one of them. So,
- 10:10Speaker 4: you know, I think he deserves the benefit of the
- 10:12Speaker 4: doubt here. He's obviously doing something.
- 10:15Speaker 2: You know.
- 10:16Speaker 4: So but to get back to your point, I don't
- 10:19Speaker 4: quite see Jalen that way.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Maybe they do.
- 10:22Speaker 5: I think your comparison with potentially what they've done with
- 10:25Speaker 5: Stafford is fair because there's there's a little time for
- 10:28Speaker 5: that to develop it.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Maybe Jalen can slot in there, right, Greg.
- 10:32Speaker 6: One thing that you taught us on the Inside the
- 10:34Speaker 6: Tip show on Inside of the Birds platforms is that
- 10:36Speaker 6: when you look at Jalen late in the season, if
- 10:39Speaker 6: you isolate throws, you go, wow, these are some timing
- 10:41Speaker 6: based throws.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:42Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not sure there was the one that against
- 10:44Speaker 6: the charges who are like it might.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Be the best of all.
- 10:46Speaker 4: You know, it's funny you say that because it just
- 10:49Speaker 4: reminded me. And I saw Donovan McNabb today and said
- 10:52Speaker 4: hello to him, and you reminded me of when I
- 10:54Speaker 4: spoke with Andy Reid after they drafted McNabb and a
- 10:58Speaker 4: lot of people said, oh my god, McNab he ran
- 11:00Speaker 4: that offense at Syracuse. It doesn't fit in the NFL.
- 11:03Speaker 4: You know, you guys probably all remember that. And Andy
- 11:06Speaker 4: said to me, he said, look, we we literally watched
- 11:09Speaker 4: every play and there were many many plays in which
- 11:13Speaker 4: he played with timing, played with the rhythm, rhythm.
- 11:16Speaker 3: We know we can get him to play like that.
- 11:18Speaker 4: So maybe they look at just what Adam said and
- 11:21Speaker 4: and saw that any number of throws, because there are
- 11:24Speaker 4: throws like that. I mean, he is an NFL quarterback.
- 11:27Speaker 4: You know, we're not talking about ninth graders here. He's
- 11:29Speaker 4: an NFL quarterback. So maybe they looked at, you know,
- 11:32Speaker 4: all the throws over the last couple of years, and said,
- 11:35Speaker 4: you know what, there's enough of those throws that we
- 11:38Speaker 4: think that we can build upon that and that could
- 11:41Speaker 4: be more foundational to our offense.
- 11:43Speaker 2: I'm sure that's what.
- 11:44Speaker 1: So what happens five six games in and this offense
- 11:47Speaker 1: is over his head?
- 11:49Speaker 3: Well, I think if you're bringing in a brand new staff, you.
- 11:51Speaker 6: Got to you gotta give it some tis in the offseason.
- 11:54Speaker 1: So you think you used the word that I don't
- 11:56Speaker 1: think is I don't think anybody can expell that.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Look, I would agree with that, Mike.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Mike, you gotta have context. Who's it on when we
- 12:06Speaker 2: watch the game, and we know it's clearly on the quarterback. Well,
- 12:10Speaker 2: there's a reason why Tyner mcke might be still on
- 12:11Speaker 2: the roster. We'll say he's still in a contract for
- 12:13Speaker 2: this coming seek. That'll be interesting.
- 12:15Speaker 4: Yeah, and don't forget Hirsch is obviously going to be
- 12:18Speaker 4: the Starughter, but they're going to have a pretty good
- 12:20Speaker 4: idea going through OTA's mini camp and training camp where
- 12:25Speaker 4: Jalen is.
- 12:25Speaker 3: In context of how he's learning it. You know, look,
- 12:30Speaker 3: I'm not speaking out of school.
- 12:31Speaker 4: We all know that Jalen personality wise, can be stubborn
- 12:34Speaker 4: and intractable. That's his core personality. He's gonna have to
- 12:37Speaker 4: open his mind a little bit because this is going
- 12:39Speaker 4: to be something new. And you know, I think this
- 12:43Speaker 4: is just my opinion. I'm a big believer in coaching.
- 12:45Speaker 4: I was very fortunate in my career to be taught
- 12:47Speaker 4: to position by Bill Walsh. But I got to know, well,
- 12:50Speaker 4: it's probably the thing I'm most grateful for in my career.
- 12:54Speaker 3: You know, I think you've got to.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Come in and yes, you understand what he can do
- 12:59Speaker 4: and what he can do. But you can't then just
- 13:01Speaker 4: write off what he doesn't do well and say, well,
- 13:03Speaker 4: we're never going to do that. I think you've got
- 13:05Speaker 4: to challenge him and say, hey, you know what, We're
- 13:07Speaker 4: gonna make you better than you've ever been. There's gonna
- 13:11Speaker 4: be some tough days, you might not like me some days,
- 13:13Speaker 4: but there's gonna be other days that are awesome, and
- 13:15Speaker 4: we're gonna make you great.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Well.
- 13:17Speaker 5: There have been times in the past where it the
- 13:19Speaker 5: appearances were that Jalen's not comfortable doing this, so we're
- 13:23Speaker 5: not gonna do this. I mean that's gonna be the
- 13:26Speaker 5: key here, right. Can he get out of his comfort
- 13:29Speaker 5: zone and great a new one?
- 13:31Speaker 4: And I think that's part of what they know that
- 13:34Speaker 4: that's they're telling us that. Yeah, because they signed their
- 13:39Speaker 4: entire offensive brain trust, so to speak, putting sirianni aside
- 13:43Speaker 4: is now putting in something brand new that Jalen does
- 13:46Speaker 4: not have any experience with at the NFL level.
- 13:50Speaker 3: So he's got to learn this from scratch.
- 13:53Speaker 1: A lot to ask guys, Yeah, they said there's a
- 13:56Speaker 1: possible big change coming in A lot to ask a
- 13:58Speaker 1: guy who, by the way, won a super Bowl MVV.
- 13:59Speaker 4: And that's why I'm he reacted that, and I'm sure
- 14:02Speaker 4: fans are probably that's why fans may be thinking that,
- 14:05Speaker 4: oh my god, this is terrible.
- 14:06Speaker 3: But you know, they obviously made this decision well and
- 14:11Speaker 3: they kind of need to right keep you. How is
- 14:15Speaker 3: the season?
- 14:17Speaker 1: I don't know. It's a great question, but it is
- 14:19Speaker 1: ironic team that won eleven games back to back.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Right divisions coming off a Super Bowl.
- 14:25Speaker 4: The way they lost and even the way they won
- 14:28Speaker 4: a lot of games was not you know, it didn't
- 14:31Speaker 4: look good.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Michael.
- 14:32Speaker 6: Let me say this about you, the question you just
- 14:34Speaker 6: posed in a building where Jeffrey Lori puts. I've talked
- 14:38Speaker 6: to so many coaches who worked their high demands of offense.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Do you think he would settle for this? It's embarrassing.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Well, as many people have pointed out, who are not
- 14:47Speaker 1: in our market, you won eleven games, you wanted a playoffs,
- 14:50Speaker 1: but it's how you and it's like, can you imagine Cleveland?
- 14:53Speaker 1: And and we're like, well, we don't want to be Cleveland,
- 14:55Speaker 1: but weally.
- 14:58Speaker 2: We also know that Jeffrey does like the passing. That's
- 15:01Speaker 2: what we're talking about, Scott.
- 15:02Speaker 5: Yeah, and so I mean, wasn't there a game this
- 15:05Speaker 5: year where Jalen had zero passing yards.
- 15:07Speaker 2: In the second game one of them twice. Yes, you're right,
- 15:11Speaker 2: that's utterly embarrassing.
- 15:14Speaker 3: See that, that kind of thing stands out.
- 15:16Speaker 4: And I'm not saying that's the reason for the change,
- 15:18Speaker 4: but there's no question that's unacceptable in the building.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Sure.
- 15:21Speaker 6: But yet, Scott, you see, his first Super Bowl was
- 15:23Speaker 6: the best in his career.
- 15:24Speaker 3: He was.
- 15:24Speaker 2: And let me tell you something, that cancer.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Even though he threw to the wrong guy on the
- 15:28Speaker 3: A J. Brown touchdown, still.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Worked and he fumbled.
- 15:31Speaker 6: Fans love to point out right right, yet he was
- 15:33Speaker 6: sure he did by the way correct. But you see
- 15:36Speaker 6: it when he's impressive. You always used to tell me
- 15:37Speaker 6: feeling it right, you see.
- 15:39Speaker 3: You know that's why I said he's an NFL quarterback.
- 15:41Speaker 4: I don't want to give the impression that guy can't play.
- 15:44Speaker 3: He's an NFL couch.
- 15:45Speaker 2: You don't do rackets.
- 15:46Speaker 3: You said, you know he's made made.
- 15:48Speaker 4: We've talked about that on inside the tape numerous times.
- 15:51Speaker 4: You know, and I think they probably, like I said,
- 15:53Speaker 4: studied all that and feel like, you.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Know what he can play in this offense.
- 15:56Speaker 1: So what is he, like you watch the tape, what
- 15:58Speaker 1: does he lack in the team to make people that
- 16:01Speaker 1: he stands out as more than just he's a winner.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Does he have any tangible or arm or accuracy or
- 16:08Speaker 1: or does he have something on tape that stands out?
- 16:11Speaker 3: Well, he's made those kinds of throws. They do exist, and.
- 16:14Speaker 4: I think they they feel that they can get him
- 16:16Speaker 4: to play that way.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Consistently, because that's that's what this offense is.
- 16:20Speaker 6: Mike the final core of the season. On our Inside
- 16:22Speaker 6: of the Tip show with Greg, Greg would point out, hey,
- 16:24Speaker 6: he actually would tells, hey, I want to want people
- 16:26Speaker 6: to see this throw because.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Historically Hurts won't make that throw.
- 16:29Speaker 6: It started in the Charger game where everyone called him
- 16:31Speaker 6: for the four turnovers, but he actually made you go,
- 16:34Speaker 6: this is a big time the Minnesota game, right, some
- 16:36Speaker 6: big time throws. Then the question is why can he
- 16:39Speaker 6: do it more?
- 16:39Speaker 2: Right?
- 16:40Speaker 1: He can do it, then why don't you ask him
- 16:42Speaker 1: to do it more consistently?
- 16:43Speaker 2: Well you don't.
- 16:43Speaker 4: That's a hard question to answer, you know, but look,
- 16:47Speaker 4: it's a fun conversation. There are a lot of coaches
- 16:49Speaker 4: who believe and even Bill wash believe this because he
- 16:53Speaker 4: was so sure of his coaching ability that if he
- 16:55Speaker 4: saw a guy do something once, he believed he could
- 16:58Speaker 4: get him to do it over and over and over again.
- 17:00Speaker 2: And there are a lot of coaches who believe that.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you what this off SAE should be interesting.
- 17:06Speaker 1: What do they have to target? Because I'll I'll ask
- 17:09Speaker 1: it this way.
- 17:10Speaker 2: A J.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Brown has signed DeVante Smith as signed. The whole offensive
- 17:13Speaker 1: line is signed, Hurts to sign, Barkley is signed. The
- 17:15Speaker 1: only guy is not as goddard. If you're going to
- 17:17Speaker 1: change his offense, is it personnel or just scheme?
- 17:22Speaker 3: Well, you always want good person that that goes to
- 17:24Speaker 3: that same but they have good personnel. Yeah, yeah, but
- 17:26Speaker 3: the offense hasn't been any good.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Well, you can't change this lion.
- 17:30Speaker 3: His yield offensive line was not good at all.
- 17:33Speaker 4: I actually spoke to a coach who told me that
- 17:36Speaker 4: he thought that that Jurgen's was the worst center in
- 17:38Speaker 4: the league this year.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Wow, he was at the Pro Bowl. Yeah, I know, Well,
- 17:41Speaker 3: so is your door Sanders.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Well, they couldn't run.
- 17:43Speaker 3: They couldn't run. They try to get justin fields.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Did you see that? He said no, he said no, Yeah,
- 17:49Speaker 2: they couldn't run.
- 17:50Speaker 5: The touch push because Cam's back was so yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 3: So I mean, look, maybe the point is he was playing.
- 17:57Speaker 4: So I can tell you from what I learned the
- 18:00Speaker 4: day I started working with Ryan jo Worski. You told
- 18:02Speaker 4: me that, hey, if you're playing, the injury thing is irrelevant.
- 18:04Speaker 3: You're playing.
- 18:06Speaker 4: So but the point is they signed him. He's going
- 18:09Speaker 4: to be the center. You know, the old line was
- 18:11Speaker 4: a bottom third o line in the.
- 18:13Speaker 3: League this year.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Don't forget Lane Johnson missed you know what, seven eight,
- 18:16Speaker 4: nine games whatever it was. So again, I don't know
- 18:19Speaker 4: if that's going to be addressed. We know how he
- 18:21Speaker 4: feels about the lines. You know, they could address you know,
- 18:24Speaker 4: I feel I mean I try I say this truly,
- 18:27Speaker 4: I almost feel sorry for Lannon Dickerson because he strikes
- 18:30Speaker 4: me as the kind of guy that's going to struggle
- 18:32Speaker 4: to walk when he's thirty five.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Huh.
- 18:34Speaker 3: And I you know, and you see.
- 18:35Speaker 4: A lot of guys like that, and I just feel badly.
- 18:38Speaker 4: But who knows with his injuries how much more he
- 18:40Speaker 4: can play at a meaningful level.
- 18:42Speaker 6: So Mike asks the question, you know, what do you
- 18:44Speaker 6: do with personnel? First of all, how he's got to
- 18:47Speaker 6: look at definitely offensive line They gotta ge Lane's replacement
- 18:49Speaker 6: at some point soon, sooner rather than later. Better death
- 18:52Speaker 6: bred Johnson was a nice story. Certainly was a quality backup.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Right he imagined they didn't get him.
- 18:56Speaker 6: Yeah, that would you would you try to bring the
- 18:58Speaker 6: guy Becton Beck he had he didn't play well this
- 19:01Speaker 6: past season.
- 19:02Speaker 5: Yeah, but well now and Stoutland's not here anymore.
- 19:05Speaker 6: Exactly, good point, Scott, So yeah, that that's another story.
- 19:08Speaker 2: So a lot of change. There might be eight new
- 19:10Speaker 2: coaches on offense.
- 19:11Speaker 6: Is just it's crazy how it's changed, Mike, so gotta
- 19:14Speaker 6: get better, Japp. They have to have guys be able
- 19:17Speaker 6: to step in if the starters don't look right or
- 19:20Speaker 6: or not available, and.
- 19:22Speaker 2: That that was a problem.
- 19:23Speaker 4: I mean, I think the fan Joe's coming back, which
- 19:25Speaker 4: I assume he is based on everything you.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Read, there's a big deal.
- 19:27Speaker 1: There's a big reporting today that he will be back.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Now, there's a big deal.
- 19:30Speaker 4: They're gonna have to look, it's very possible to read
- 19:33Speaker 4: blanken Ship is gone. So they're gonna have to address
- 19:35Speaker 4: the safety position because in Vic's defense, safety is so
- 19:39Speaker 4: critical and Blankenship was a key to the He may
- 19:43Speaker 4: have been the key to the defense in the.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Way he and then if he leaves, you got mccouba
- 19:48Speaker 1: coming off injury and what else.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Well, that's the thing they're gonna have to address that
- 19:52Speaker 4: free agency on the draft.
- 19:53Speaker 2: I'll tell you what.
- 19:53Speaker 1: The defense was very good all year, but there's a
- 19:56Speaker 1: lot of questions on that side of the ball. Now,
- 19:58Speaker 1: if you lose Phillips, you need another corner. You probably
- 20:01Speaker 1: don't need another safety. Obviously Dean is probably gonna go.
- 20:04Speaker 1: So you need got Campbell here, but you gotta decide
- 20:08Speaker 1: what you're gonna do with Phillips, and you gotta get
- 20:09Speaker 1: a corner and get.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Edges in the corner. My corner.
- 20:12Speaker 6: They need an outside corner opposite Mitchell in the worst way. Yeah,
- 20:16Speaker 6: and they got a look at they need more at rushers.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Well, guys, that was a lot of That was fun conversation.
- 20:21Speaker 3: That was awesome now that we got it all figured out.
- 20:24Speaker 3: But they were probably going to seventeen. Yeah, absolutely right.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I can't wait to see OTAs.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, all that style.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Draft's gonna be very interesting twenty three. You can go
- 20:36Speaker 1: a variety of ways here. You can go offensive line,
- 20:39Speaker 1: you can.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Go edge, you can go corner.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Who knows they could do something crazy good trade AJ Brown.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Do you wonder what they would get for him?
- 20:49Speaker 1: Silcapatio was on with us earlier. He said, a top fifty.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Pick a top fifty is the question is do they
- 20:54Speaker 2: get a first. You need leverage.
- 20:55Speaker 6: You're probably gonna need multiple teams, team playing in the
- 20:57Speaker 6: Super Bowl, the New eng Let's.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Try multiple times, all right, Greg Gasel, thanks man oh
- 21:02Speaker 1: that was fun.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Guys, appreciate thank you.
