- 0:00Speaker 1: I've never actually had a jelly roll. It's one more thing?
- 0:08Speaker 2: Or have I you've never had a jelly roll?
- 0:11Speaker 1: Is that that it's like cake that's in a spiral around?
- 0:15Speaker 2: Uh? Yeah yeah, I probably have had.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Much jelly like substance in it. Yeah yeah, probably not
- 0:22Speaker 3: the best for you.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Oh lord, No, No, just pure sugar boy and I
- 0:27Speaker 1: eat like a hog over the weekend. It is a
- 0:29Speaker 1: good weekend.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Well, I've been disciplined this year, really really really good
- 0:33Speaker 3: so far one twelve of the way through.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Yes, Katie, Oh no, I was looking at you like,
- 0:38Speaker 2: have you that's neat.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Beating like a pregnant person.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Well yeah, come on me too. But there's the r.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Yeah. So jelly rolled a musician. I don't know very
- 0:51Speaker 3: much about him, but I know I know another radio
- 0:54Speaker 3: show friend of ours that had him on many, many
- 0:57Speaker 3: times and say his story is just amazing role as
- 1:00Speaker 3: a guy who got off track and drugs and jail
- 1:04Speaker 3: and crimes and all this sort of stuff. Cats obviously
- 1:07Speaker 3: lots of face tats. Found God, lost weight.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Became third of the size he used to be right now.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Found God and lost weight related, I think Found God
- 1:19Speaker 3: became famous, saw himself on TV lost weight.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Maybe that's it, I don't know, or.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Just coincidentally these drugs came along at the same time
- 1:27Speaker 3: that he got famous.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Yeah, oh, it's just reading about the g LP ones.
- 1:32Speaker 1: You got a year and you will gain it all.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Back even if you stay on them.
- 1:36Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, I'm sorry obviously, yeah, if
- 1:38Speaker 1: you get off of them.
- 1:39Speaker 2: See, I just assumed you had to stay on them.
- 1:42Speaker 3: The way weight loss works, there's never gonna be a thing.
- 1:45Speaker 3: There's never gonna be a thing unless it, like you know,
- 1:48Speaker 3: as crisper technology, redoes your your genes.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, Well, anyway, where were we? I s Jelly role.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So we talked to some about the Grammy Show during
- 2:01Speaker 1: the radio show, partly because there were so many obnoxious
- 2:04Speaker 1: political statements from the soft headed music types, and why
- 2:09Speaker 1: don't we feature a couple of those? You want to
- 2:10Speaker 1: go with the infamous Billie Eilish.
- 2:13Speaker 2: First, no one is illegal on stolen land.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And rapturous applause to that communist style, maoist style slogan.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Oh you cut off the end.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Good for you. I'm sorry.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I didn't know you wanted a whole thing. Well, I
- 2:33Speaker 1: do not accept your apology. Let's hear Kailani, whoever that is.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Everybody is so powerful in this room and in this
- 2:41Speaker 4: room later and together we're stronger in numbers to speak
- 2:44Speaker 4: against all the injustice going on in the world right now.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:49Speaker 4: So instead of letting it be just a couple of
- 2:51Speaker 4: you here and there, I hope everybody is inspired to
- 2:53Speaker 4: join together as a community of artists and speak out
- 2:56Speaker 4: against what's going on. And I'm gonna leave this and say, ice, God,
- 2:59Speaker 4: dang it.
- 3:00Speaker 2: All this you are they all fifteen years old? Art
- 3:06Speaker 2: is so overrated by the artists.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Like art, I like literature, I like music, I like painting,
- 3:11Speaker 3: I like this, but it's so overrated by the artists themselves.
- 3:14Speaker 3: And the impact you're having on society, you're just not.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Just not right. Yeah.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I suppose it makes it easier to, you know, do
- 3:27Speaker 3: your thing if you think you're really taking on various
- 3:30Speaker 3: social injustices as opposed to And I was born with
- 3:35Speaker 3: this genetic ability to play the guitar or the piano,
- 3:37Speaker 3: and I practiced a lot. I came up with some
- 3:39Speaker 3: words and people kind of like it, and I made
- 3:42Speaker 3: some money without having to get a real job.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I wonder if this is the sort of thing that's well,
- 3:48Speaker 1: obviously he got to heap and helping of it, maybe
- 3:50Speaker 1: more than anybody ever. But that made Bob Dylan say,
- 3:53Speaker 1: would you stop it. I'm a guitar player. He might
- 3:56Speaker 1: be a voice of anything.
- 3:57Speaker 2: That might be why Bob Dylan is the way he is.
- 3:59Speaker 3: He's like one of the few artists who fully recognizes
- 4:03Speaker 3: his impact.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Right and like he's embarrassed by the ridiculous accolade. Yes, yeah, yeah,
- 4:10Speaker 1: I'll bet that's it. I'll bet he's of the genetic
- 4:13Speaker 1: predisposition that all of us happen to be or learned.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I don't know, that's like, it's embarrassing, it's just.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Oh so the Billie Eilish thing that got the most
- 4:24Speaker 3: attention that we played No No One is Legal on
- 4:30Speaker 3: Stolen Land, I just saw it. I'd only heard it
- 4:33Speaker 3: because I only watched the musical stuff.
- 4:36Speaker 2: During the Grammys. I don't watch the actual awards.
- 4:38Speaker 3: The thing at the end was pretty cool they did
- 4:39Speaker 3: in Ouzzie Osbourne song you had some of the guns
- 4:41Speaker 3: and roses dudes up there and everything.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I thought that was cool.
- 4:44Speaker 3: But uh so, Billy Eilish says, the No One's first
- 4:48Speaker 3: I'd just like to say no one is I legal
- 4:50Speaker 3: on stolen land in the crowd, sheees like crazy and
- 4:52Speaker 3: like two thirds of the people stand up and they
- 4:54Speaker 3: go to I think Sabrina Carpenter, one of your super
- 4:56Speaker 3: hot young blonde women with big blue Disney eyes that
- 4:59Speaker 3: looked like the and a creation, and she's got just
- 5:02Speaker 3: her eyes are welling up with tears and she has
- 5:04Speaker 3: this look of awe in her face. That Billie Eilish
- 5:07Speaker 3: said this in front of a crowd of people that
- 5:09Speaker 3: are also unrealistic and agree with you, And it's like, oh,
- 5:12Speaker 3: how dumb are you?
- 5:13Speaker 2: People? You're just so dumb, like low uninformed or low IQ.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I don't know what it is, but you said that's
- 5:21Speaker 3: such a dumb freaking statement. If you want to get
- 5:24Speaker 3: up there and say I think Ice is going way
- 5:26Speaker 3: too far and we should not be whatever, that that
- 5:29Speaker 3: perfectly valid.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I don't know why you say it at a music show,
- 5:33Speaker 2: but at least you can. You've got it, are you?
- 5:35Speaker 3: But the whole no one's illegal unstolen land thing is
- 5:38Speaker 3: just for five year olds.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Yeah, don't embarrass yourself. I'm embarrassed for you. Yeah, it's childlike.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Eh, that's unbelievable. And the cheering, Ah, yeah, what was
- 5:53Speaker 1: I gonna say?
- 5:53Speaker 2: That's something pumped in my hand.
- 5:55Speaker 3: And like I, like I have said several times, I
- 5:57Speaker 3: can't believe that somebody at a high level with some
- 6:00Speaker 3: ravatas like Quincy Jones is dead now. But back in
- 6:02Speaker 3: the day, somebody high level in the music industry couldn't say. Look,
- 6:06Speaker 3: I've been in music my whole life. I love music.
- 6:08Speaker 3: We all love music. But this whole thing we've created
- 6:11Speaker 3: is getting smaller and less revenue as we talk more
- 6:16Speaker 3: and more about politics. I care about making music and
- 6:19Speaker 3: crafting melodies, and so do you. How about if we
- 6:22Speaker 3: stick with that, then we won't eliminate half the country
- 6:25Speaker 3: that now hates our guts and maybe throw.
- 6:29Speaker 1: In a little bit, for instance, this issue. You've heard
- 6:31Speaker 1: this over and over again. Has anybody ever brought that
- 6:34Speaker 1: up to you? You know, there are plenty of really
- 6:35Speaker 1: smart people who believe this, And if you don't, you're
- 6:38Speaker 1: not even aware of that argument, are you? You haven't
- 6:41Speaker 1: even considered it, much less decided that it's a worse
- 6:44Speaker 1: argument than the argument you made. So you're really out
- 6:47Speaker 1: of your depth. You're nice folks, you're gifted musicians, but
- 6:51Speaker 1: you're kind of making a fool year.
- 6:53Speaker 3: So I was just thinking, just appeal to their greed.
- 6:55Speaker 3: We could all make so much more money. We've cut
- 6:57Speaker 3: off half of our potential market, like coming out here
- 7:02Speaker 3: and saying all these political things. Why would we want
- 7:04Speaker 3: to do that. I want to sell records. You want
- 7:06Speaker 3: to sell records, right right?
- 7:11Speaker 1: Ah. So which brings us to Jelly Roll, who was
- 7:14Speaker 1: asked by a reporter after the awards, Well, I think
- 7:18Speaker 1: it's it's all set up here.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Would you be willing to comment on what's going on
- 7:23Speaker 3: in our country right now?
- 7:24Speaker 4: I don't really, So this is the truth, and I'm
- 7:28Speaker 4: glad somebody asked because I love talking about this stuff
- 7:30Speaker 4: when people care to hear my opinion. But so I
- 7:32Speaker 4: can tell you that people shouldn't care to hear my opinion. Man,
- 7:35Speaker 4: you know, I'm a dumb redneck. I haven't watched enough.
- 7:37Speaker 4: I didn't have a phone for eighteen months. I've had
- 7:39Speaker 4: one for four months and don't have social media. I
- 7:42Speaker 4: hate to be the artist is static aloof but I
- 7:44Speaker 4: just I've come so disconnected from what's happening, and I'm
- 7:47Speaker 4: just not a I grew up in a house of
- 7:50Speaker 4: like insane pandemonium and like like I didn't even know
- 7:54Speaker 4: politics were real until I was in my mid twenties
- 7:57Speaker 4: in jail. Like that's how disc can when you grow
- 8:00Speaker 4: up in a drug addict household. Do you think we
- 8:02Speaker 4: like have common calls about what's happening in world politics?
- 8:06Speaker 4: Like we're just trying to find a way to survive. Man,
- 8:08Speaker 4: you know.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Interesting, Yeah, he's like I said, I've been told by
- 8:14Speaker 3: people who've interviewed him that he's a fascinating story and
- 8:17Speaker 3: could be you know, his big A deal. I don't know,
- 8:20Speaker 3: I might even already have a book out, but his
- 8:21Speaker 3: big A deal like just talking to various communities as
- 8:24Speaker 3: anything else.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, huh yeah, I get that these people feel something.
- 8:33Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I just think it comes down to that the great
- 8:36Speaker 1: divide of people who they are governed by their emotions
- 8:44Speaker 1: and those who have their emotions. As one of the
- 8:49Speaker 1: tools in the toolkit and the comparison I always come
- 8:53Speaker 1: up with is, you know, and you can pick whatever issue.
- 8:58Speaker 2: You know, we've got to do something that.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, but the proposal you've you know, come
- 9:04Speaker 1: up with that that would actually make it worse. Yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 1: but we've got to do something and just that emotion.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I'm feeling this emotion that we should do something, and
- 9:16Speaker 1: I just and I don't want to hear what you're
- 9:19Speaker 1: saying because I'm feeling this and I trust my feelings
- 9:22Speaker 1: and you're messing with my feelings and all I'm like, yeah,
- 9:26Speaker 1: it's it's a pisser, ain't it. But we you know
- 9:30Speaker 1: that won't work.
- 9:31Speaker 3: That's what I would have said if I went on
- 9:33Speaker 3: after Yeah, Billie Eilish last night, it's a pisser, isn't it.
- 9:38Speaker 1: So anyway, so she dressed as a teenage girl who
- 9:42Speaker 1: isn't used to having breasts yet for a while, and
- 9:44Speaker 1: she wanted sex kit in for a minute. Now. It's
- 9:48Speaker 1: apparently some sort of quasi Pilgrim look or something puritan.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I don't dressed.
- 9:54Speaker 3: I was gonna grab the audio for the show, but
- 9:56Speaker 3: I didn't. So there was an awards show. I think
- 9:58Speaker 3: it was the Emmys back in the ninety and uh uh,
- 10:02Speaker 3: you can find it on YouTube.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I've watched it before. It's pretty funny.
- 10:04Speaker 3: So Norm MacDonald is a presenter presenter and he comes
- 10:07Speaker 3: out with a guy in full Indian outfit.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Have you ever seen this?
- 10:12Speaker 3: In the big Giant long head dress and everything like that.
- 10:15Speaker 3: And Norm McDonald comes to the microphone. He says, I'd
- 10:17Speaker 3: like to turn my time over to Chief Running Bear.
- 10:19Speaker 3: And Chief Running Bear comes to the microphone and says,
- 10:22Speaker 3: you're on land stolen from my people. You raped our women,
- 10:25Speaker 3: you murdered our braves. And they go to the crowd
- 10:28Speaker 3: and like John Stewart and John Oliver and all these
- 10:31Speaker 3: people are just dying laughing. Wow, this really dry bit
- 10:36Speaker 3: that Norm McDonald's doing about them being on the land
- 10:40Speaker 3: that belonged to this Indian and he's talking about raping
- 10:42Speaker 3: the women and everything like that. She was in the
- 10:44Speaker 3: nineties and now you fast forward a few years and
- 10:48Speaker 3: that's not a hilariously dry, avant garde Andy Kaufman type bit.
- 10:53Speaker 3: You just say it with a straight face and everybody cheers.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Isn't that interesting that it changed that much in a
- 10:59Speaker 3: couple of decads. It's from Obviously this would be hilarious
- 11:02Speaker 3: to say this, because it's ridiculous to take it completely seriously.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I blame the Internet.
- 11:08Speaker 2: How did that happen?
- 11:10Speaker 1: The Internet?
- 11:13Speaker 2: Billy I was going with some sort of sexy pilgrim thing.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I don't know what is that? Oh, try that.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I want you to put on these buckled shoes.
- 11:25Speaker 2: What I'm close. Say something about Thanksgiving, Call me thou
- 11:33Speaker 2: or refer to me as thou.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Would you, Why just just do it, just go with it.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Well, I guess that's it, thankfully,
