The DiCecco Daily: Eagles Safety Situation Moving Forward · Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast

Speaker 1: Hey, what's happening everybody? Welcome into another edition of the
• 0:13
Speaker 1: Czech Odaily. It's Andrew to Checko, Eagles beat reporter for
• 0:16
Speaker 1: insidethbirds dot Com. And today was a Tuesday schedule for
• 0:21
Speaker 1: the Eagles, but not exactly the Tuesday that we've grown
• 0:23
Speaker 1: accustomed to. Eagles defensive coordinator Fic Fangio spoke at two o'clock.
• 0:28
Speaker 1: The Eagles have a walk through at five point fifteen,
• 0:30
Speaker 1: and then there's the locker room later in the day. Again,
• 0:33
Speaker 1: everything is sort of truncated because of the abbreviated week.
• 0:38
Speaker 1: And Vic Fangiol had a lot of interesting things to
• 0:40
Speaker 1: say during his press conference, and we'll get to that
• 0:44
Speaker 1: in a moment, but a lot of it had to
• 0:46
Speaker 1: do with the safety outlook, and we talked a little
• 0:50
Speaker 1: bit about that in the previous podcast. But the Eagles
• 0:53
Speaker 1: are light there at safety with Drew mccouba suffering a
• 0:56
Speaker 1: fractured ankle in the late in the game against the
• 0:58
Speaker 1: Cowboys read blanket shit more on him in a moment,
• 1:03
Speaker 1: suffered the thigh injury there and it'll be Sidney Brown
• 1:07
Speaker 1: starting opposite home. Well, Vic Vanjo sort of helped connect
• 1:12
Speaker 1: some of those dots in his press conference. But let's
• 1:15
Speaker 1: start by talking about what he had to say about
• 1:18
Speaker 1: Sidney Brown. So, Sidney Brown has played twenty six defensive
• 1:22
Speaker 1: snaps against the Cowboys and started one game this season.
• 1:26
Speaker 1: He's in line to start his second game of the season.
• 1:30
Speaker 1: I mentioned he's an entertaining player to watch, especially on
• 1:33
Speaker 1: special teams, because he almost bullies the opposition extremely physical
• 1:38
Speaker 1: flies around. Does give you some penalties there, but you're
• 1:42
Speaker 1: looking for some restraint. If he's able to do that
• 1:45
Speaker 1: and play fundamentally sound, he's going to be a fun
• 1:47
Speaker 1: player to watch in the defense because he does pack
• 1:50
Speaker 1: a punch and he's a twitchy type of player, and
• 1:53
Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to seeing what he's going to do
• 1:55
Speaker 1: in this matchup. And Vic Vangeo spoke about Sidney Brown
• 1:58
Speaker 1: today and he said, I think he's been doing a
• 2:02
Speaker 1: good job in practice with the reps that he does get.
• 2:05
Speaker 1: He's done a good job staying in tuned in the
• 2:07
Speaker 1: meetings and the walkthroughs, and I'm excited to see how
• 2:09
  Speaker 1: he does.
• 2:11
Speaker 2: Hey, one thing that always scares me is the latest
• 2:13
Speaker 2: financial scam. And with the holidays, it's all about finding
• 2:16
Speaker 2: the perfect gift, but this time of the year. Not
• 2:19
Speaker 2: every deal is actually what it seems. You've got these
• 2:22
Speaker 2: scammers getting more creative to trick people into sharing their
• 2:25
Speaker 2: payment info through methods like fake shopping sites and giveaways.

• 3:26
Speaker 1: On the re blanket ship point pick Vanjoe when asked
• 3:30
Speaker 1: do you expect to have Reblankenship back this week?
• 3:32
Speaker 3: He said yes, I do, which needless to.
• 3:34
Speaker 1: Say, would be a huge boost to the Eagles back
• 3:38
Speaker 1: end that is sort of missing a couple players in action.
• 3:42
Speaker 1: I didn't even mention adri Jackson, Eagles cornerback who suffered
• 3:45
Speaker 1: a head injury, was evaluated for concussion and never returned.
• 3:49
Speaker 1: We'll get more insight into that when the official injury
• 3:51
Speaker 1: report comes out, but their secondary is going to be
• 3:55
Speaker 1: in flux. But to have someone back there in Red Blankenship,
• 3:58
Speaker 1: who Vic vanjo too earlier this season as a rock
• 4:02
Speaker 1: back there. He is highly intelligent and does a really
• 4:05
Speaker 1: good job of helping others with their assignments. And we
• 4:09
Speaker 1: all know that to play safetier linebacker in Vicvangio's system,
• 4:13
Speaker 1: you have to be extremely smart and be able to
• 4:17
Speaker 1: process a lot of information because a lot of responsibility
• 4:19
Speaker 1: is placed on their respective shoulders. So it seems like
• 4:24
Speaker 1: Reid is trending in a good direction, as Vic Fangio.
• 4:26
Speaker 3: Seemed to indicate, and.
• 4:31
Speaker 1: He talked a little about Drew Miccuba, so we'll put
• 4:33
Speaker 1: a bow on that about the rookie season that he's had,
• 4:35
Speaker 1: and he's talked about Macuba throughout the season, but he said,
• 4:39
Speaker 1: you know, I think we talked about it last week.
• 4:41
Speaker 1: He has been playing a lot better, avoiding the big
• 4:43
Speaker 1: negative plays and playing to his ability, and that really
• 4:46
Speaker 1: tracks with what I was mentioning in yesterday's podcast with
• 4:49
Speaker 1: Drew mccouba. It seemed like the game was slowing down
• 4:52
Speaker 1: for him. He was playing with more confidence, he was
• 4:55
Speaker 1: more assignment sound. And I go back to what I
• 4:57
Speaker 1: just said about the safety position and how integral it
• 5:01
Speaker 1: is to the functionality of Vic Fangio's defense, and it
• 5:06
Speaker 1: takes a little bit of time, certainly for a rookie,
• 5:08
Speaker 1: and it makes Red Blanket Ship's job all the more
• 5:10
Speaker 1: challenging when you're trying.
• 5:12
Speaker 3: To navigate that next to a rookie.
• 5:14
Speaker 1: But I think that that quote that I just read
• 5:16
Speaker 1: for you, it sheds light on the season that mccooba
• 5:19
Speaker 1: was having. So it really is a shame for any injury,
• 5:22
Speaker 1: but certainly for a younger player who was really starting
• 5:24
Speaker 1: to find his footing and adds some stability there to
• 5:28
Speaker 1: the back end, along with Red Blankenship at the safety position.
• 5:32
Speaker 3: He also talked about Cooper Degene.
• 5:34
Speaker 1: Now, when Theodori Jackson injury happened, the Eagles opted to
• 5:39
Speaker 1: put Cooper Degene on the outside. Cooper Degene, of course,
• 5:42
Speaker 1: has been in the outside when the Eagles are in base,
• 5:44
Speaker 1: but when they were in nickel, they put Cooper Degene
• 5:46
Speaker 1: outside and put Michael Carter at nickel. So you saw
• 5:51
Speaker 1: some toggling there with the secondary, and I thought that
• 5:55
Speaker 1: that was, you know, I thought that was an interesting
• 5:58
Speaker 1: wrinkle on something that we can look to see how
• 6:01
Speaker 1: that all transpires. And he vic said that he thought
• 6:05
Speaker 1: that that was the best combination of players at that time.
• 6:09
Speaker 1: So it's I'm curious to see whether or not they
• 6:12
Speaker 1: give Cooper Degene another look on the outside this week
• 6:15
Speaker 1: opposite Quinnon Mitchell, what they do at nickel, which would
• 6:18
Speaker 1: presumably be Michael Carter. But you can see that there's
• 6:21
Speaker 1: a lot of combinations that they could go with here,
• 6:23
Speaker 1: and obviously the Eagles are going to go with what
• 6:25
Speaker 1: they deem is best for the team and gives them
• 6:28
Speaker 1: the best chance to win the football game. But he
• 6:31
Speaker 1: talked about Cooper Degene on the outside and said he
• 6:34
Speaker 1: got beat a couple of times. I thought he was tight,
• 6:36
Speaker 1: just at the catch point got beaten. It's going to happen.
• 6:40
Speaker 2: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher. And if you have a family
• 6:42
Speaker 2: and kids at home, like me, you always want them
• 6:44
Speaker 2: to be fully protected. That's why I'm thrilled to be
• 6:47
Speaker 2: a Simply Safe customer. And our house is equipped with
• 6:50
Speaker 2: the most technologically advanced alarm system you can get. If
• 6:54
Speaker 2: you could actually stop someone from breaking into your home
• 6:56
Speaker 2: before they got inside, why wouldn't you. Traditional security system
• 7:00
Speaker 2: only react after a break in, But Simply Safe is
• 7:03
Speaker 2: different because it stops crimes before they happen. With active
• 7:08
Speaker 2: guard outdoor protection, they're AI powered cameras detect threats while
• 7:12
Speaker 2: they're still outside your home, and they alert real security agents.
• 7:16
Speaker 2: These agents take action while the intruder is still outside
• 7:19
Speaker 2: and confront the intruder to let them know they're being
• 7:22
Speaker 2: watched on camera and police is on the way. And
• 7:24
  Speaker 2: that's how you stop a crime before it's committed. There's
• 7:28
Speaker 2: no long term contracts or hidden fees. You can cancel
• 7:31
Speaker 2: any time, and it comes with a sixty day money
• 7:33
Speaker 2: back guarantee. Try it and see the difference for yourself.
• 7:36
Speaker 2: Do not miss out on simply Safe's biggest sale of
• 7:39
Speaker 2: the year, sixty percent off. Our listeners get sixty percent
• 7:44
Speaker 2: off a simply Safe home security system at simplysafe dot
• 7:48
Speaker 2: com slash bird. That's simplysafe dot com slash bird.
• 7:52
Speaker 3: That is going to happen, and it's something that I
• 7:54
  Speaker 3: don't think that.
• 7:57
Speaker 1: Is taken into consideration, and I think sometimes you just
• 8:00
Speaker 1: have to tip your cap to the opposition. George Pickens
• 8:03
Speaker 1: made a fantastic catch, rising above and attacking the catch
• 8:07
Speaker 1: point there Ceedee Lamb.
• 8:09
Speaker 3: That was pretty close coverage.
• 8:10
Speaker 1: There was hand fighting going on down the field down
• 8:13
Speaker 1: that right sideline. You can make a case for either
• 8:15
Speaker 1: player being in the wrong or being called for that.
• 8:17
Speaker 1: They opted to call Cooper Jean for defensive pass interference,
• 8:22
Speaker 1: but it looked to be offensive pass interference from my
• 8:25
Speaker 1: vantage point. But either way, I thought that Vic Vangel
• 8:29
Speaker 1: gave a really good answer. It was a concise answer,
• 8:32
  Speaker 1: and he said.
• 8:33
Speaker 2: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough, parking, traffic,
• 8:37
Speaker 2: long lines, We've all been there. But when it comes
• 8:40
Speaker 2: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
• 8:45
Speaker 2: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly
• 8:49
Speaker 2: with plenty of free parking. You'll be in and out fast,

Speaker 2: you know you're getting the good stuff without overpaying. They
• 9:18
Speaker 2: even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
• 9:23
Speaker 2: service members, and healthcare pros. Cammed in Apothecary top quality cannabis,
• 9:28
Speaker 2: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans. Twenty
• 9:31
  Speaker 2: one and up.
• 9:33
  Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know if it's surprising is the
• 9:36
Speaker 1: right word, Because he was asked if he was surprised
• 9:39
Speaker 1: to see him struggle a little bit. He said, I
• 9:41
Speaker 1: don't know if surprising is the right word. Guys get
• 9:43
Speaker 1: beat sometimes, and those are good receivers. They have two
• 9:46
Speaker 1: top notch receivers, so it's always important to keep that
• 9:51
Speaker 1: in mind. That's gonna happen. When you play cornerback in
• 9:53
Speaker 1: a pass happy league, you're going to give up plays.
• 9:56
Speaker 1: And that's where having that competitive toughness, that mental toughness
• 10:00
Speaker 1: to line it back up and whether it's a good
• 10:02
Speaker 1: player bad, you just get back after it. I think
• 10:04
Speaker 1: Cooper Degen has proven that he can do that, and
• 10:06
Speaker 1: all the really good corners do that. That's something that
• 10:09
Speaker 1: I've really been fascinated with. When talking to a Dori Jackson,
• 10:14
Speaker 1: he also has that good player bad. You line it
• 10:17
Speaker 1: back up, You have that short memory, and you don't
• 10:20
Speaker 1: let whatever happen previously affect you in any way positive
• 10:23
Speaker 1: or negatively. On Jahid Campbell, he played eleven snaps in
• 10:28
Speaker 1: the game, and that's something that we've seen as a
• 10:31
  Speaker 1: growing trend.
• 10:31
Speaker 3: And it's hard to take.
• 10:32
Speaker 1: Nikobe Dean off the field, who picked up his third
• 10:35
Speaker 1: sack of the season, but Vic Vangels said, yeah, Nikobe
• 10:38
  Speaker 1: has been playing.
• 10:38
Speaker 3: Very well and he deserves to be in there. Hard
• 10:40
  Speaker 3: to dispute that.
• 10:41
Speaker 1: He also spoke about what makes the Kobe Dean such
• 10:44
Speaker 1: an effective blitzer and said he's good, he has a
• 10:46
Speaker 1: good feel for it.
• 10:48
Speaker 3: He's got a good feel for it.
• 10:49
Speaker 1: He can be physical when he needs to be, and
• 10:51
Speaker 1: he can slip a guy when he needs to slip
• 10:53
  Speaker 1: a guy.
• 10:54
Speaker 3: So he's got a good feel for it.
• 10:55
Speaker 1: So here's his explanation to the penalty for having too
• 11:01
Speaker 1: many men on the field.
• 11:02
Speaker 3: It wiped away into Kobe Deane interception in the third quarter.
• 11:05
Speaker 1: It would have given the Eagles the ball at the
• 11:07
Speaker 1: Dallas forty five and certainly altered the complexion of the game.
• 11:10
Speaker 1: So his explanation was, Yeah, they subbed, which allows us
• 11:14
Speaker 1: to sub and gives us time to sub. The umpire
• 11:16
Speaker 1: was actually going up to the line of scrimmage to
• 11:18
Speaker 1: hold up the play and for some.
• 11:20
Speaker 3: Reason didn't that one.
• 11:22
Speaker 1: I'm not really sure what happened there, But they subed,
• 11:25
Speaker 1: so we should be able to sub, and we didn't
• 11:27
  Speaker 1: get off.
• 11:28
Speaker 3: We didn't get off in time.
• 11:30
Speaker 1: There's his explanation as to that play, and that was
• 11:33
Speaker 1: a very critical play in the game.
• 11:35
Speaker 3: But he also spoke about the Chicago offense and we'll
• 11:40
Speaker 3: talk a little bit about that.
• 11:41
Speaker 1: He says has in terms of what have they shown
• 11:45
Speaker 1: him this season from an offensive standpoint, he says a lot.
• 11:49
  Speaker 3: It's a great scheme.
• 11:50
Speaker 1: They do a great job calling the game, mixing it up,
• 11:52
Speaker 1: marrying their run game and their pass game. They're highly
• 11:55
Speaker 1: ranked in a lot of areas, and I don't think
• 11:57
Speaker 1: it's any accident. They've got really good players and it's
• 12:00
Speaker 1: a great scheme and a great play car. So that
• 12:04
Speaker 1: was some of the cliff notes from the Thick Fangio
• 12:07
  Speaker 1: press conference today.
• 12:09
Speaker 2: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher. And if you have a family
• 12:11
Speaker 2: and kids at home, like me, you always want them
• 12:13

Speaker 2: before they got inside, why wouldn't you. Traditional security systems

• 13:20
Speaker 1: Bird Offensive cordator Kevin Patulo. For those wondering, we'll speak
• 13:24
Speaker 1: during the open locker room at six twenty.
• 13:26
Speaker 3: I won't be there for either.
• 13:27
Speaker 1: I am doing the WBCV show with Adam Kapwan at
• 13:31
Speaker 1: the Chickens and Pizza Marlton, but I will be able
• 13:35
Speaker 1: to kind of recap that on the next podcast. And
• 13:38
Speaker 1: then tomorrow Nick Siriani speaks. There's practice which will be
• 13:42
Speaker 1: open to us in the beginning, and then there's the
• 13:45
Speaker 1: locker room, and then that will be all for the week.
• 13:48
Speaker 1: As Thursday's Thanksgiving and Friday is the game against the
• 13:53
Speaker 1: Chicago Bears two eight and three teams. The Bears come
• 13:55
Speaker 1: to Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles, by the way, will
• 13:57
Speaker 1: be wearing their all black uniforms meaning helmet, jersey, and pants,
• 14:03
Speaker 1: so that'll be something that will be fun to watch.
• 14:06
Speaker 1: They fans are encouraged to dress in black for the
• 14:10
Speaker 1: occasion and it should be a fun one there Friday
• 14:14
Speaker 1: afternoon three o'clock kickoff, and there's going to be a
• 14:18
Speaker 1: lot to unpack from that one either way, but for now,
• 14:21
Speaker 1: that's going to do it for this edition of the
• 14:23
Speaker 1: Czech O Daily. I am Andrew de Checko, and I
• 14:26
Speaker 1: will catch you all on the next one.
