  Speaker 3: I'm gonna go a little, I guess, a little deep

Speaker 3: threats It's gone on all over the state and nation,

Speaker 3: more importantly parents and her guardians need to know that

• 2:48
  Speaker 3: to the show.
• 2:49
Speaker 6: Dave, good morning, thank you.
• 2:51
Speaker 3: We had a very strange phenomenon Brad here in Charleston
• 2:55
Speaker 3: over the last twenty four hours In fact, around seven
• 2:57
Speaker 3: forty five to eight o'clock this morning, it was happening, uh,
• 3:02
Speaker 3: and quite heavily here, water dropping from the sky, rain
• 3:08
Speaker 3: I think they called it.
• 3:09
Speaker 4: It was like I think I was like seven years
• 3:11
Speaker 4: old the last time it rained, it seems.
• 3:13
Speaker 3: But being the award winning investigative reporter that you are,
• 3:16
Speaker 3: I just thought you should know that that it We
• 3:18
Speaker 3: do have rain, or we have had in some cases
• 3:20
Speaker 3: heavy rain in Charleston.
• 3:22
Speaker 6: Man. Well, I was going to ask you when you
• 3:24
Speaker 6: first described it. I thought that phenomenon have a name,
• 3:28
  Speaker 6: you call it.
• 3:30
Speaker 4: It's been so long we don't remember. For me, we
• 3:32
  Speaker 4: don't remember.
• 3:33
Speaker 3: We don't remember. I just wanted you to know about it,
• 3:35
Speaker 3: because you're always on top of everything. I wanted you
• 3:36
Speaker 3: to know that rain was reported in Charleston. Now, if
• 3:39
Speaker 3: we can get about six or seven more days of that.
• 3:43
Speaker 4: Uh, we'd been in good shape.
• 3:44
Speaker 3: Because we're we're in trouble to take on a journey
• 3:49
  Speaker 3: behind the scenes.
• 3:50
Speaker 6: This is top secret ND gathering stuff. I've got a
• 3:54
Speaker 6: you know, a daily call with Hoppy Cretuble, just a
• 3:57
Speaker 6: side information. And today it began with, well, it's raining,
• 4:05
Speaker 6: so top of the news.
• 4:07
Speaker 3: I get it you know, the headline and the gazette
• 4:09
Speaker 3: mail this morning. And someone when my coworkers pointed this
• 4:11
Speaker 3: out when they walked by head and laid on my
• 4:13
Speaker 3: desk upstairs, and they walked by and they said that
• 4:15
Speaker 3: the headline is Richwood Praise for rain. With all due
• 4:18
Speaker 3: respect to those people in Richwood. It's area that I
• 4:21
Speaker 3: spent a lot of time. And when was the last
• 4:24
Speaker 3: time you heard the people of Richwood say they wanted rain?
• 4:26
Speaker 3: But I guess they need it?
• 4:29
Speaker 6: Oh man, Well, I mean it brings saying it that way,
• 4:32
Speaker 6: bringing back canfil memories of the twenty sixteen flood, right,
• 4:35
Speaker 6: and the people have been praying for a school ever since. Yeah,
• 4:39
Speaker 6: but you know it's all relative. And when you have
• 4:42
Speaker 6: had drought all summer into the early fall, uh yeah,
• 4:46
  Speaker 6: you begin.
• 4:46
Speaker 3: To pray for rain, just not too much, right, not
• 4:49
Speaker 3: too much, because I mean, quite frankly, the ground can't
• 4:52
Speaker 3: absorb it. So whatever we get is just going to
• 4:54
Speaker 3: run off and then the bigger problem. All right, we're
• 4:56
Speaker 3: not We'll leave that up to the Brian Hugheses and
• 4:58
Speaker 3: Spencer Atkins's of world. I want to get into talking
• 5:02
Speaker 3: about the election for a moment. It's just September eighteenth.
• 5:05
Speaker 3: I know, but I was thinking about this this morning.
• 5:08
  Speaker 6: Brad.
• 5:08
Speaker 3: It's actually been quiet, kind of quiet on the election front.
• 5:12
Speaker 3: You know the old adages as things really kick in
• 5:14
Speaker 3: with Labor Day. Well, we are in a cycle now
• 5:16
Speaker 3: where the election cycle pretty much never ends. But it's
• 5:21
Speaker 3: been kind of quiet so far. A lot of discussion, though,
• 5:25
Speaker 3: Brad has been out there about the support or maybe
• 5:28
Speaker 3: lack of of support or what like, of the of
• 5:33
Speaker 3: the governor's tax plan. I want to start with Attorney
• 5:36
Speaker 3: General and Republican nominee for Governor Patrick Morrissey A. G.
• 5:40
  Speaker 4: Morrissey.
• 5:40
Speaker 3: Brad says, we should be his words, thoughtful about this. Thoughtful, Brad,
• 5:45
  Speaker 3: you're taking that.
• 5:48
Speaker 6: Morrissey's stated view most in written statements and on radio.
• 5:55
Speaker 6: He was on to Bejar Radio in Morgantown talking about
• 5:58
Speaker 6: this topic, and he has had a similar position to
• 6:03
Speaker 6: the one expressed by Senate Finance Chairman Eric Tarr on
• 6:06
Speaker 6: this program, which is that if you have a significant
• 6:11
Speaker 6: tax cut, and in this case it's an estimated additional
• 6:15
Speaker 6: one hundred and ten one hundred and fifteen million dollars,
• 6:19
  Speaker 6: what's for Dran's constitution requires a balanced budget, so you've
• 6:22
Speaker 6: got to make sure you can truly afford it. Morrissey
• 6:27
Speaker 6: has I think Morrissey, who holding which show, is the
• 6:33
Speaker 6: favorite to be the governor next year. Starting next year,
• 6:38
Speaker 6: I think he's anticipating that he would be likely leading
• 6:42
Speaker 6: the executive branch. If leading the executive branch, both for
• 6:48
Speaker 6: the outcome of a potential tax cut, which could mean
• 6:53
Speaker 6: some difficult decisions about balancing the budget, but also if
• 6:58
Speaker 6: that decision were to hold off his administration, if he
• 7:02
Speaker 6: were to win and become the next governor, could influence it.
• 7:06
Speaker 6: So what he's saying, we need to be very thoughtful
• 7:09
Speaker 6: about this. He is recommending that the next legislature, which
• 7:15
Speaker 6: would really be doing its work in February and March
• 7:18
Speaker 6: of next year, take that sixty days to consider not
• 7:22
Speaker 6: just an additional tax cut, but all of the context,
• 7:26
Speaker 6: all the other spending that the state has taken on
• 7:31
Speaker 6: other tax cuts that are still going into effect, how
• 7:35
Speaker 6: the economy is doing, and so you know, I think
• 7:39
Speaker 6: I think that when you're looking to another governor in
• 7:43
Speaker 6: the next few months, that carries some weight that position I.
• 7:47
Speaker 3: Want to move to Hunting Mayor Steve Williams brad He
• 7:50
Speaker 3: of course is the Democrat nominee for governor. His words were,
• 7:54
Speaker 3: we should be responsible, and I think most people would
• 7:57
Speaker 3: agree with that. You referenced instead of financier Eric Tar,
• 7:59
Speaker 3: who on the show last week. But since Tar was
• 8:02
Speaker 3: on the show, which was I think Wednesday or Thursday
• 8:03
Speaker 3: of last week, I've had On yesterday I had delicate
• 8:06
Speaker 3: Kaylee Young, who pretty much said the same thing. And
• 8:09
Speaker 3: on Friday's show, I had State Democratic Party chair in
• 8:12
Speaker 3: Delgate Mike Pushkin, who you know is going to say
• 8:14
Speaker 3: the same thing. People are asking for responsibility here, including
• 8:17
  Speaker 3: Steve Williams.
• 8:20
Speaker 6: So I mean, in some ways, Morrissey and Williams no
• 8:24
Speaker 6: intentionally but present a united front. They are each saying,
• 8:29
Speaker 6: each of them leading candidates, the Republicans and the Democrats,
• 8:32
Speaker 6: saying let's hold off, let's let's be careful here, no
• 8:36
Speaker 6: reason to rush into this. But then when you dig
• 8:38
Speaker 6: a little deeper, their reasons are a little bit different.
• 8:41
Speaker 6: Morrissey's saying that any tax cut amounting to one d
• 8:46
Speaker 6: and ten hundred and fifty million dollars needs to be
• 8:49
Speaker 6: counterbalanced with some trimming of state government, Williams saying that
• 8:54
Speaker 6: the state government is already not meeting many of its
• 8:58
Speaker 6: responsibilities or that some things are a job, and he describes,
• 9:03
Speaker 6: you know, the need to pay roads to build water
• 9:06
Speaker 6: systems in areas of Worcester, dams that don't have reasonable
• 9:11
Speaker 6: and reliable water systems. Proper funding of the education system,
• 9:17
Speaker 6: and whether that's public of private. I'll just go on
• 9:20
Speaker 6: a little tangent here. There's going to be an additional
• 9:23
Speaker 6: probably one hundred and fifty million dollars expense for the
• 9:26
Speaker 6: Hope Scholarship that goes to students who are outside the
• 9:29
Speaker 6: public school system. Until now, that has been the eligibility
• 9:34
Speaker 6: has been for students who are either leaving the public
• 9:38
Speaker 6: school system and going to something else, whether it's private
• 9:40
Speaker 6: school or homeschooling, or kindergarteners going to school for the
• 9:44
Speaker 6: first time. It has not been open to students who
• 9:47
Speaker 6: are already homeschooling, are already in private school. But next
• 9:52
Speaker 6: year it's going to open up to everybody, and the
• 9:55
Speaker 6: expense is anticipated to be one hundred and fifty million
• 9:58
Speaker 6: dollars or so. So Williams is saying that Western China
• 10:02
Speaker 6: needs to be careful to be able to match its
• 10:06
Speaker 6: obligations before it takes on this additional tax cut. Each
• 10:11
Speaker 6: of them, Williams and Morrissey had said I'm in favor
• 10:14
Speaker 6: of tax cuts under the right conditions. But again Morrissey saying, well,
• 10:18
Speaker 6: we got to look for some savings in the state government.
• 10:21
Speaker 6: Williams saying it doesn't appear to him, but stack government
• 10:24
Speaker 6: is meeting its responsibilities for services. It's already promised.
• 10:29
Speaker 3: Talking to Brad Backlhanny again, Brad, I want to get back.
• 10:33
Speaker 3: I want want to kind of continue on this road
• 10:35
Speaker 3: with Morrissey and Williams. They have both said yes, I
• 10:38
Speaker 3: think to a debate. Any idea when that may happen.
• 10:42
Speaker 3: I think they both agreed to it in principle. Any
• 10:44
Speaker 3: idea when that might happen.
• 10:46
Speaker 6: I started heard. I think talks are ongoing. And Morrissey
• 10:51
Speaker 6: himself was on again to be a j R Radio
• 10:55
Speaker 6: talking to town in the Morgantown area late last week,
• 10:59
Speaker 6: saying that he was agreeable to it, but the things
• 11:03
Speaker 6: like the date would have to be sorted out. And similarly,
• 11:07
Speaker 6: Williams said that he is ready and rare and to
• 11:11
Speaker 6: count on a debate, but but not certain of the date,
• 11:16
Speaker 6: the format, the debate provider. All of that still being
• 11:21
  Speaker 6: worked out.
• 11:23
Speaker 3: The two Senate candidates Brad to replace Senator Joe Manchin
• 11:26
Speaker 3: talking about Governor Jim Justice, the Republican, and Wheeling Mayor
• 11:29
Speaker 3: Glen Elliott, the Democrat. They sat down and you tweeted
• 11:31
Speaker 3: about this with the Morgantown Domnion Post newspapers editorial board.
• 11:35
Speaker 4: How did that go?
• 11:37
  Speaker 6: I don't know what a I I'm going to fly
• 11:39
Speaker 6: on the wall. But you know, one thing that surprised
• 11:42
Speaker 6: me was that Justice participated in it. So Governor Justice
• 11:49
Speaker 6: will call his administration the most transparent in history, and
• 11:54
Speaker 6: he does do weekly online news free things, but he
• 11:59
Speaker 6: really rarely does this kind of media availability in person.
• 12:06
Speaker 6: So the story, which was by David Beer, the good
• 12:09
Speaker 6: reporter for the Dominion Post, doesn't explicitly say if Justice
• 12:14
Speaker 6: and Williams were in the same room. Typically typically, I mean,
• 12:18
Speaker 6: it didn't say whether they were or not. I don't
• 12:20
Speaker 6: I don't really know. Typically these newspaper editorial boards are
• 12:24
Speaker 6: literally sitting down with newspaper editors. It's it's about policy.
• 12:28
Speaker 6: There can be some back and forth, but it's not
• 12:31
Speaker 6: really a debate. So I was I was mostly interested
• 12:36
Speaker 6: in attackman at all. Justices tolling shows that he is
• 12:42
Speaker 6: way out ahead of in that race. Markerchance research electoral
• 12:49
Speaker 6: history will show you that the Republican would have an
• 12:51
Speaker 6: advantage electorally, and Justice's popularity is way up, so I
• 12:57
Speaker 6: was really surprised to see that that he sat down
• 13:01
Speaker 6: and participated. There were some issues that were of interest.
• 13:06
Speaker 6: So for example, Justice again talked about national energy policy,
• 13:13
Speaker 6: which would be a decent question for somebody seeking to
• 13:16
Speaker 6: be the senator. Senators want to represent Western China. Justin said,
• 13:25
Speaker 6: as he has during brief things, that he doesn't think
• 13:28
Speaker 6: America has an energey policy. I don't technically think that's true.
• 13:34
Speaker 6: It's not the same one that he would have. I'm
• 13:35
Speaker 6: sure of that, but I do think America has an
• 13:37
Speaker 6: energy policy. And then Wheeling, former Wheeling mayor Elliott counterbalanced
• 13:44
Speaker 6: that a little bit. There was some talk about the
• 13:48
Speaker 6: Grand Brier and the troubles that the Greenbrier was mostly experiencing.
• 13:54
Speaker 6: Last month, a lot of that has calmed down. Justice
• 13:58
Speaker 6: responded and said, you know, look, from his view, so
• 14:01
Speaker 6: we saved the Greendbrier. We have continued to provide good
• 14:07
Speaker 6: and stable employment for people. Uh. He believes that that
• 14:11
Speaker 6: would not have occurred under a chain, under a national
• 14:16
Speaker 6: hotel company, that sign of broad and a healthy employment.
• 14:26
Speaker 6: So he says, you know what, we go through bumps
• 14:28
Speaker 6: every now and then, what do you want me to do?
• 14:31
Speaker 6: Mayor Elliott Counter? I thought this was an interesting an
• 14:35
Speaker 6: interesting take that he would rather be talking about the
• 14:38
Speaker 6: issues facing West Virginia, West Ruginus challenges and that's the
• 14:44
Speaker 6: Greenbrier problems of the last month or so. We're in
• 14:50
Speaker 6: many ways distracting from that. So I thought it was
• 14:53
Speaker 6: an industry back that I was mostly intrigued that it
• 14:55
  Speaker 6: even happened.
• 14:57
Speaker 4: What are you working on today? Brand?
• 14:59
Speaker 6: They sometimes the listeners and readers will say, in a
• 15:04
Speaker 6: not very generous fashion, they will say, must be a
• 15:07
Speaker 6: slow news day. Uh, and just for tetting me and you,
• 15:11
Speaker 6: because this is a private conversation, I tell you that
• 15:14
Speaker 6: sometimes that is that is actually true. But Dave, this
• 15:18
Speaker 6: will this look at your heart rate up. There is
• 15:20
Speaker 6: a Board of Risk and Insurance Management meeting at one
• 15:22
Speaker 6: o'clock at the quarterly meeting. That's, of course the insurance
• 15:26
Speaker 6: program where if people have claims against the States, they
• 15:29
Speaker 6: may be considered by the Board of Risk and Insurance Management.
• 15:32
  Speaker 6: I don't I might stop there because I don't want
• 15:34
Speaker 6: your heart rate to get out of control, and I
• 15:36
Speaker 6: describe that we're also raising our figures to the air,
• 15:40
Speaker 6: and you know, trying to determine whether we're really moving
• 15:43
Speaker 6: towards a special session or not. The Governor standwich bound
• 15:47
Speaker 6: and determined, definitely going to have one. But you know,
• 15:51
Speaker 6: the Senate Vice Chairman has been on your program saying, look,
• 15:55
Speaker 6: but the main bill the Governor wants to push through,
• 16:00
Speaker 6: the additional five percent sales tax, it's not going to
• 16:03
Speaker 6: go anywhere unless he presents us with a plan to
• 16:06
Speaker 6: counterbalance with some sort of reductions in spending. So you know,
• 16:13
Speaker 6: that is a real face off, and whether it goes
• 16:15
Speaker 6: anywhere every day is sort of reading the barometer of
• 16:19
Speaker 6: what is going to happen.
• 16:20
Speaker 3: Right before I let you go, I have to ask
• 16:21
Speaker 3: you a very very serious, hard hitting news question here. Okay,
• 16:24
Speaker 3: today is National Cheeseburger Day. If Brad mclhanny is stepping
• 16:29
Speaker 3: into his favorite place, what does Brad get on a cheeseburger?
• 16:35
Speaker 6: Oh? I think you're going to ask maybe where I
• 16:37
  Speaker 6: go to.
• 16:37
Speaker 3: Get No, no, no, I'm not gonna put you on
• 16:38
Speaker 3: the spot there, But what do you order typically on cheeseburger?
• 16:41
Speaker 3: I'm asking this of all my guests today. That's if
• 16:43
Speaker 3: I remember, but go ahead.

• 16:50
Speaker 6: the cheese. If pepper jack cheese is an option, I'd
• 16:53
Speaker 6: go for that. I would. I'd go for some holapenos,
• 16:59

• 20:11

Speaker 3: We do know that on Monday, two middle school students

Speaker 4: Good morning, Deb, good morning, and good morning to you.
• 21:00
  Speaker 4: Good morning day.
• 21:00
Speaker 3: All right, So you have updated numbers, Yes, sir, so
• 21:04
Speaker 3: I'll let you. We'll start with your updated numbers.
• 21:06
Speaker 11: As of six o'clock this morning, we have received one
• 21:09
Speaker 11: hundred and seventy seven threats to that affected seventy five
• 21:14
Speaker 11: different schools in thirty five different counties in the state
• 21:18
Speaker 11: of West Virginia, and as of this morning, there's been
• 21:22
Speaker 11: a total of twenty three arrests. That's a mixture of
• 21:24
Speaker 11: both juveniles and adults for making these threats.
• 21:30
Speaker 3: Deb Rosnick, I know that you have been out in
• 21:32
Speaker 3: front of this as well. You know you've been talking
• 21:35
Speaker 3: to members of the press. But it's not about necessarily
• 21:38
Speaker 3: getting the message out to the press as much as
• 21:41
Speaker 3: it's getting the message out to parents and kids here
• 21:44
Speaker 3: that your office and other not just a canon count,
• 21:47
Speaker 3: but by the country, you're going to prosecute absolutely.
• 21:50
Speaker 9: You know, we have tried to really make it clear
• 21:53
Speaker 9: to children and parents alike. Parents, watch your children, see
• 21:57
Speaker 9: what they're posting on the internet. Don't just turn them loose.
• 22:00
Speaker 9: Make sure that you have some sort of supervision over
• 22:03
Speaker 9: what they are, what apps they're using, what they're sharing
• 22:07
Speaker 9: on those apps. Because again, as I have advised many
• 22:10
Speaker 9: many times, words matter, and so in these instances. When
• 22:15
Speaker 9: we are looking at terroristic threats charges, we are not
• 22:19
Speaker 9: looking at the intent of the act or in terms
• 22:22
Speaker 9: of whether or not the individual has to intend to
• 22:24
Speaker 9: carry that act through. It is the making of the
• 22:27
Speaker 9: threat that is the actionable offense.
• 22:30
Speaker 4: So what actually happens? I mean, Rob, you talked about
• 22:33
Speaker 4: the tips. How do agencies.
• 22:37
Speaker 3: How to entities whatever? How do they get these tips?
• 22:39
Speaker 3: I mean, is it just parents call in? Does it
• 22:41
  Speaker 3: get kids?
• 22:42
Speaker 4: I mean? How do they get the tips?
• 22:43
Speaker 11: A little bit of both. And that's one thing I
• 22:45
Speaker 11: want to get across is if you come across some
• 22:48
Speaker 11: information on a social media platform or someone texts you information,
• 22:53
Speaker 11: please don't share that on the social media platform. What
• 22:56
Speaker 11: you're doing is you're just continuing to stir the pot. Please,
• 22:59
Speaker 11: when you get that information, go to that c send
• 23:02
Speaker 11: app that we have and download it, and that way
• 23:06
Speaker 11: it is funneled straight to where it needs to go
• 23:09
Speaker 11: to our school safety officers and our fusion center and
• 23:13
Speaker 11: they convent those in. What we found is a lot
• 23:16
Speaker 11: of these threats are the same threat being provided multiple places.
• 23:21
Speaker 3: Indeed, and I have talked about this on the show,
• 23:24
Speaker 3: and I think you both agree social media is a
• 23:26
Speaker 3: major major problem, not only for kids, but it's also
• 23:29
Speaker 3: for parents because a lot of parents, as you said,
• 23:32
Speaker 3: and I saw this in a particular county. It wasn't
• 23:34
Speaker 3: Kanawa County, but a particular county last week where there
• 23:37
Speaker 3: was a threat made and by the time that it
• 23:39
Speaker 3: was shared by parents, not kids, by parents and grandparents
• 23:43
Speaker 3: on social media, things like I don't know, but I
• 23:46
Speaker 3: heard my cousin's husband's brother, you know, said this about
• 23:51
Speaker 3: this particular middle school and it turned out that it
• 23:54
Speaker 3: wasn't true. So parents, and I'm not trying to be
• 23:56
Speaker 3: so hard on parents, grandparents or guardians, but they've got
• 23:59
Speaker 3: to do, guys a better job. As Rob said, of
• 24:02
Speaker 3: not sharing this well.
• 24:03
Speaker 9: And we as a society, for some reason, the first
• 24:06
Speaker 9: instinct is to share whatever it is we see. Please
• 24:09
Speaker 9: stop hitting that share button. You don't have to share
• 24:13
Speaker 9: every single aspect of your life, and you certainly don't
• 24:15
Speaker 9: have to share these things because it is causing a
• 24:19
  Speaker 9: tremendous uproar.
• 24:20
Speaker 3: And Rob, I know you would have agree with that
• 24:21
Speaker 3: as well. I mean, social media is a it's maybe
• 24:27
Speaker 3: the greatest thing that happened to society and also the
• 24:29
Speaker 3: worst thing that happened to society, and I'm a regular
• 24:31
Speaker 3: social media user again, not only you know, for for radio,
• 24:34
Speaker 3: but personal stuff as well. And it's that that that's where,
• 24:39
Speaker 3: that's where that starts. Back when I, you know, I'm
• 24:41
Speaker 3: the old guy making my day. I say that because
• 24:43
Speaker 3: Rob and I are roughly the same age. Back in
• 24:45
Speaker 3: the I mean, we used to get bomb threats. We
• 24:47
Speaker 3: had you know, every now and that we would get
• 24:48
Speaker 3: a bomb threat. But now when talking about social media, guys, Robi,
• 24:52
Speaker 3: it's a totally different thing than what it was when
• 24:54
Speaker 3: you and I were in school in the eighties.
• 24:55
Speaker 11: Oh, absolutely absolutely, And you know, social media is really
• 24:59
Speaker 11: what's spurred the number of the voluminous amount of threats
• 25:02
Speaker 11: that we were receiving, which is why the governor directed
• 25:06
Speaker 11: us to start this task Force school Safety.
• 25:09
Speaker 4: I want to talk about that. Tell us about.
• 25:11
Speaker 11: That, Yes, sir, this the governor directed that we have
• 25:13
Speaker 11: all all of our partners. Our law enforcement partners are
• 25:16
Speaker 11: school safety officers, the Department of Education, are the prosecutors, institute,
• 25:22
Speaker 11: the everyone is working together on this and what we're
• 25:26
Speaker 11: able to do is funnel the information and make sure
• 25:29
Speaker 11: that are a police officer in the northern part of
• 25:34
Speaker 11: the state who receives the exact same threat. That's a
• 25:36
Speaker 11: police officer in the southern part of the state. They're
• 25:38
Speaker 11: not starting from from ground zero. They they'll know the
• 25:42
Speaker 11: information upfront and and that tip very well may have
• 25:45
  Speaker 11: already been debunked.
• 25:48
Speaker 4: Devn I know you can follow up with that as well,
• 25:49
  Speaker 4: same thing.
• 25:50
  Speaker 8: Yes, you know.
• 25:52
Speaker 9: Fortunately, this task force has been put together and we
• 25:54
Speaker 9: have had a great response in terms of our abilities
• 25:58
Speaker 9: to work together. We have been in constant contact with
• 26:01
Speaker 9: one another, with law enforcement agencies with various entities, and
• 26:06
Speaker 9: you know, it does show how our law enforcement and
• 26:09
Speaker 9: our community can come together and we can work together
• 26:12
Speaker 9: and really move forward because we are seeing that it
• 26:16
Speaker 9: trend down, unfortunately, not at the rate we would like.
• 26:19
Speaker 4: To trend down. Talk about that.
• 26:21
Speaker 9: So the amount and Rob has more specific information than
• 26:25
Speaker 9: I do because he did get the information directly from
• 26:28
Speaker 9: the Fusion Center this morning.
• 26:29
Speaker 11: Yeah, last the most the largest number of tips we
• 26:34
Speaker 11: received in one day was in the twenties, twenty six,
• 26:37
Speaker 11: twenty four somewhere around in there. And as of yes
• 26:40
Speaker 11: yesterday's tips, we received thirteen. So we're starting to go down.
• 26:46
Speaker 11: You know, a lot of these threats are being recycled.
• 26:49
Speaker 3: Yeah, as you said, Rob, it's the same threat, but
• 26:52
Speaker 3: it's just being shared over and over again, or people
• 26:55
Speaker 3: are talking about it more.
• 26:57
Speaker 11: Yes, sir. And it's not only it's not only threats
• 27:00
Speaker 11: within this state. Some of these threats are being received
• 27:03
Speaker 11: from out of state.
• 27:05
Speaker 3: I mean, there was one story that came out last
• 27:07
Speaker 3: week that there was a threat made to a school
• 27:09
Speaker 3: in West Virginia. It's been closed for like ten years. Yes,
• 27:12
Speaker 3: So they had no idea. They're just these people swatting,
• 27:15
Speaker 3: is what they could, just set in it out and
• 27:17
Speaker 3: not knowing or not caring that this was a school
• 27:19
Speaker 3: that had been closed for ten years or more.
• 27:21
  Speaker 4: Yes.
• 27:22
Speaker 11: And that's one of the big aspects that our task
• 27:25
Speaker 11: force is able to determine is once we get those threats,
• 27:30
Speaker 11: you know, we don't have to deploy assets to go
• 27:32
Speaker 11: investigate that because we know that is not a legitimate threat,
• 27:35
Speaker 11: because that's not even a legitimate place.
• 27:38
Speaker 3: And I will say, and I've mentioned this on the
• 27:40
Speaker 3: show before, guys, as somebody who spent some time in
• 27:42
Speaker 3: public schools. In my last job went I worked for
• 27:45
Speaker 3: the Secretary of State's office. We did a lot of
• 27:47
Speaker 3: in school voter registrations and whatever I think overall, our
• 27:52
Speaker 3: schools do a pretty good job. Because some of the
• 27:54
Speaker 3: schools that I traveled to, and I literally traveled all
• 27:56
  Speaker 3: over the state.
• 27:57
Speaker 4: It was like getting into Fort Knox into getting this
• 28:00
  Speaker 4: some of these.
• 28:00
Speaker 3: Schools, which is, sadly enough, in a testament on our society,
• 28:04
Speaker 3: dev I guess the way that it should be.
• 28:06
Speaker 9: It is it's unfortunate that we have to take these steps,
• 28:09
Speaker 9: that we have to invest millions and millions of dollars
• 28:12
Speaker 9: to secure our children. Not that I'm saying it's not
• 28:15
Speaker 9: worth it, because it certainly is, but it's unfortunate that
• 28:18
Speaker 9: we have to go to those extents to ensure our
• 28:21
Speaker 9: children's safety when they are attending school.
• 28:24
Speaker 3: Let's talk about the prosecution here. I know you can't
• 28:27
Speaker 3: get into individual cases, and I don't want you to
• 28:30
Speaker 3: do that, but if we have a situation, let's just
• 28:32
Speaker 3: give a hypothetical and Rob will let you weigh in
• 28:34
Speaker 3: on the second. If we have a hypothetical situation where
• 28:37
Speaker 3: a middle school student at what name, the school, name,
• 28:40
Speaker 3: the county, or whatever, how does it go once the
• 28:44
Speaker 3: threat is received and where does the prosecutor's office come
• 28:49
Speaker 3: in and what could they be facing. I know every
• 28:52
Speaker 3: case is different, but as a whole, you know, from
• 28:54
Speaker 3: the five hundred foot level, what could they be facing.
• 28:57
Speaker 9: Well, you know, we are facing the tearteristic threats charged
• 29:00
  Speaker 9: with weird.
• 29:01
Speaker 3: I mean that's this is not chewing gum in class,
• 29:03
Speaker 3: you know, little thirteen year old.
• 29:05
Speaker 4: No, Terroristic threats is kind of a big deal.
• 29:08
Speaker 9: It is, and it's a felony offense. It's punishable by
• 29:11
Speaker 9: one to three years in prison, a fine of five
• 29:13
Speaker 9: to twenty five thousand dollars, or both of fine and imprisonment.
• 29:16
Speaker 9: But the process generally begins with law enforcement opening an
• 29:19
Speaker 9: investigation after they receive a tip. Most oftentimes we are
• 29:23
Speaker 9: brought in very early on. The law enforcement officers will
• 29:26
Speaker 9: give us contact, let us know the situation, what kind
• 29:29
Speaker 9: of threat it was, what they've done thus far, and
• 29:32
Speaker 9: they keep us advised that the as the investigation ensues
• 29:36
Speaker 9: and throughout the duration of the investigation, we maintain that contact,
• 29:40
Speaker 9: advising us to certain things we're looking for or things
• 29:44
Speaker 9: that you know, do we think there's enough and so
• 29:47
Speaker 9: oftentimes we'll say no, that's that's not enough to actually charge.
• 29:51
Speaker 9: But frequently, and in these circumstances, especially in Kinnall County,
• 29:55
Speaker 9: we've charged four individuals. You know, we are looking to
• 29:58
Speaker 9: ensure that we are taking every single threat seriously, and
• 30:03
Speaker 9: then once we have developed the case enough to make
• 30:05
Speaker 9: that charge, that's exactly what we are doing. We are
• 30:07
Speaker 9: going to pursue those charges. We are going to go
• 30:09
Speaker 9: through court with them, and we are going to prosecute you.
• 30:13
Speaker 3: And imagine that, you know, guys, being thirteen forty I
• 30:16
Speaker 3: can remember back in the old days when I was
• 30:19
Speaker 3: thirteen or fourteen years old, being that age and facing
• 30:23
Speaker 3: a felony for something that you thought would be just
• 30:27
Speaker 3: I don't I want to get out of the math
• 30:29
Speaker 3: test today or whatever. That's pretty heavy stuff.
• 30:32
Speaker 11: Rob, Yes, sir, And just like deb said, if a
• 30:37
Speaker 11: juvenile is convicted of a one to three year sentence,
• 30:42
Speaker 11: you know, if they're a freshman, they very well may
• 30:44
Speaker 11: be a senior before they even have the opportunity to
• 30:47
Speaker 11: return to their homeschool.
• 30:49
Speaker 9: If they can return to their homeschool.
• 30:51
Speaker 3: Yes, sir, Yeah, I mean it's just amazing. And again,
• 30:55
Speaker 3: social media has just made it so easy for these things.
• 30:58
Speaker 3: And there's no such thing as well I deleted it
• 31:02
Speaker 3: or whatever. Once it goes on social media, it's stored somewhere.
• 31:05
Speaker 9: Let's make that perfectly clear. Kids who think once you
• 31:10
Speaker 9: delete something from your phone that it's gone you are wrong.
• 31:15
Speaker 9: We can take your phone, we can find what you
• 31:17
Speaker 9: are sending. It doesn't matter if it's a text message, Snapchat, Facebook,
• 31:22
Speaker 9: we can find it. So if you send it, there's
• 31:25
Speaker 9: a very good chance you're going to get caught.
• 31:27
Speaker 11: And Dave, when this task force first started, Governor Justice
• 31:31
Speaker 11: sent a letter to the social media platforms and they've
• 31:35
Speaker 11: been over backwards helping us. Really, that's why we are
• 31:39
Speaker 11: identifying these people who are committing these acts and we
• 31:43
Speaker 11: are able to get them to the prosecution stage.

• 31:55
Speaker 4: If you had a.
• 31:56
Speaker 3: Message Prosecutor Resnik for parents, guardians or anybody involved, what
• 32:03
Speaker 3: would that message be?
• 32:06
Speaker 9: First and foremost, please do not let your first response
• 32:09
Speaker 9: be to share any threats that you see. Secondly, please
• 32:13
Speaker 9: again be mindful of not only what you were sharing
• 32:15
Speaker 9: on the internet, but what your children are sharing on
• 32:17
Speaker 9: the internet. And please tell your children, that words matter,
• 32:22
Speaker 9: that even if it is an idle threat, it doesn't matter.
• 32:25
Speaker 9: It is still a crime and you could be prosecuted it.
• 32:31
Speaker 3: It's very I think it's very important that people realize,
• 32:36
Speaker 3: as you said this and I heard it in your
• 32:38
Speaker 3: presser last week, that it doesn't have to be a
• 32:40
Speaker 3: credible threat. If you could say, oh, well he couldn't
• 32:42
Speaker 3: he or she couldn't possibly do this, you know, yeah, yeah,
• 32:46
Speaker 3: it doesn't have to be. There's no you don't have
• 32:48
Speaker 3: to prove yeah, they were going to do it.
• 32:50
Speaker 4: All it has to be is a threat.
• 32:51
Speaker 9: No, I don't even have to prove that they intended
• 32:54
Speaker 9: to follow through, only that the threat was made.
• 32:57
Speaker 4: Rob What would you say to parents or guardian?
• 33:00
Speaker 11: I would echo everything that deb has said, but I
• 33:03
Speaker 11: would also add that I want the public to be vigilant,
• 33:08
Speaker 11: not not to be scared, but to be vigilant for
• 33:12
Speaker 11: our school employees, our teachers, service personnel to make sure
• 33:17
Speaker 11: they're doing what they're trained to do. Because our students,
• 33:20
Speaker 11: when they are inside of a locked classroom door, behind
• 33:24
Speaker 11: the locked classroom door, they are safe.
• 33:27
  Speaker 4: All right.
• 33:28
Speaker 3: Well, it's it's something that those of us with a
• 33:32
Speaker 3: little a John is probably would have never thought about
• 33:34
Speaker 3: that we would be dealing with. And there's so much
• 33:36
Speaker 3: of this, guys that becomes copycats.
• 33:38
Speaker 4: And you know, well so and so did it. Now
• 33:41
Speaker 4: I'm going to do it.
• 33:42
Speaker 3: And that's what the kids have been doing since the
• 33:43
Speaker 3: beginning of time. But the difference is rob it doesn't.
• 33:46
Speaker 3: It hasn't in the in the years past, it hasn't
• 33:49
Speaker 3: had possible felony charges involved in it.
• 33:52
Speaker 11: That's correct. And you know, Dave, when you and I
• 33:54
Speaker 11: were in high school, we didn't have the reach to
• 33:57
Speaker 11: uh just on our phone be able to get a
• 34:00
Speaker 11: hold of someone in California when we're sitting in class.
• 34:04
Speaker 11: That the technology just wasn't there.
• 34:06
Speaker 3: Parents know what your kids are doing here, And I'll
• 34:08
Speaker 3: say this, and again i'm an expert on kids because
• 34:10
Speaker 3: I don't have any. The parents probably need to know
• 34:13
Speaker 3: your kids. Parents and grandparents need to know your kids
• 34:15
Speaker 3: and know what they're doing, but also know are they
• 34:18
Speaker 3: responsible enough to have access to this because quite frankly,
• 34:22
Speaker 3: and I agree with that, And I'll say this about adults,
• 34:24
Speaker 3: A lot of adults shouldn't have access.
• 34:25
Speaker 4: To social media. But but but you got to.
• 34:28
Speaker 3: You gotta know your kid and you got to know
• 34:30
Speaker 3: that this is going on. Take their phones, look at them,
• 34:32
Speaker 3: see what they're doing.
• 34:33
Speaker 9: Yes, please watch your children. Please just again be mindful
• 34:36
Speaker 9: of what they are doing. Watch what they're posting on
• 34:39
Speaker 9: the internet, well, on their cell phones, on computers, on
• 34:41
Speaker 9: their iPads, on their Xbox PlayStation.
• 34:45
  Speaker 8: Just pay attention.
• 34:47
Speaker 4: All right, guys, I know you're both very very busy.
• 34:49
Speaker 3: Rob was working right up to the time we went
• 34:51
Speaker 3: on the air getting updated numbers. Hopefully we'll see those
• 34:54
Speaker 3: numbers go back and things can get back to normal,

• 38:44
Speaker 4: Thank you for being here. I forget you know, I
• 38:46
  Speaker 4: completely forgot that.
• 38:48
Speaker 3: I said I was going to do this with every guest,
• 38:49
Speaker 3: but we had some technical difficulties this morning.
• 38:51
Speaker 4: I don't get a chance to ask them.
• 38:52
Speaker 3: I'll ask you though, because you're always you're always up

Speaker 3: does doctor Casey Sacks order on a cheeseburger or do
• 39:00
Speaker 3: you even eat cheeseburgers?
• 39:02
  Speaker 8: Oh?
• 39:02
Speaker 16: Yeah, cheeseburgers are great. Probably pepper jack for me.
• 39:05
Speaker 3: All right, Well that's two votes for pepperjack, because that's
• 39:07
Speaker 3: what's what Brad said earlier this morning too.
• 39:09
Speaker 4: I just like to get to know people a little bit.
• 39:11
  Speaker 6: I don't know.
• 39:12
Speaker 16: You could go with cheddar and barbecue sauce too, both
• 39:14
  Speaker 16: really close call.
• 39:15
Speaker 4: All right, I got you.
• 39:17
Speaker 3: I was texting with you yesterday and you said you
• 39:19
Speaker 3: wanted to talk about something called the Jazz Prize.
• 39:21
Speaker 4: Y ass tell me about that?
• 39:23
Speaker 16: So excited. So the YAS Prize is like the Pooliser
• 39:27
Speaker 16: Prize for charter schools, and the Win Academy has been
• 39:30
Speaker 16: named as a semi finalist this year for the YAS Prize.
• 39:33
Speaker 16: It comes with a two hundred thousand dollars award, and
• 39:37
Speaker 16: we're just really excited. We beat out thousands of other
• 39:39
Speaker 16: schools to be able to prove that we're one of
• 39:41
Speaker 16: the most excellent schools in the country.
• 39:43
Speaker 3: Well that is excellent, and you guys are doing fantastic
• 39:46
Speaker 3: work out there, and that's why we like to give
• 39:47
Speaker 3: you the opportunity to come on to talk about it.
• 39:49
Speaker 3: You got a big meeting of some sort killed up
• 39:51
Speaker 3: to college later this month.
• 39:53
Speaker 4: What's that all about?
• 39:53
Speaker 16: We do so next week it's called it's called the
• 39:57
Speaker 16: College Wide Advisory Meeting. So once a year we make
• 40:00
Speaker 16: sure that we bring in every single one of our
• 40:02
Speaker 16: program's advisory boards. It's really important to us, and you
• 40:05
Speaker 16: and I have talked about this before. It's really important
• 40:07
Speaker 16: at the college that we work with business and industry
• 40:10
Speaker 16: to make sure that our programs match their needs. So
• 40:13
Speaker 16: our program chairs meet really regularly with those folks, but
• 40:17
Speaker 16: once a year we bring them all together, we have dinner,
• 40:20
Speaker 16: We do a formal presentation, sort of a status update
• 40:23
Speaker 16: of what's going on at the college, and then they
• 40:25
Speaker 16: make sure to talk to each other about, you know,
• 40:27
Speaker 16: what are their enrollment goals coming up for the next year.
• 40:30
Speaker 16: Where are they with their strategic plans. Are we teaching
• 40:33
Speaker 16: the things that they need us to teach so that
• 40:34
Speaker 16: they can hire our graduates. It's a good time.
• 40:38
Speaker 4: Sounds like it again.
• 40:39
Speaker 3: We're talking with doctor Casey Sachsonbridge Valley certainly hasn't felt
• 40:42
Speaker 3: like fall outside, but thank goodness, we did get a
• 40:44
Speaker 3: little rain here earlier this morning.
• 40:46
Speaker 4: Not enough, but we got some rain.
• 40:47
Speaker 3: But Faul officially kicks in on the calendar on Sunday,
• 40:51
Speaker 3: and you're already thinking about your pumpkin drop.
• 40:54
  Speaker 6: Now.
• 40:54
Speaker 3: We'll have you on between now and then, but I
• 40:55
Speaker 3: want to get it on people's calendars. It's October the
• 40:57
Speaker 3: seventeenth this year, Is that right?
• 40:59
  Speaker 6: It is.
• 41:00
Speaker 16: It's such a fun event. If folks have never been
• 41:02
Speaker 16: out for the Pumpkin Drop before, it's at the ball field.
• 41:05
Speaker 16: We love having it there. It's really neat. Middle school kids,
• 41:10
Speaker 16: high school kids, even a couple elementary teams put together
• 41:13
Speaker 16: teams and then put a pumpkin in a box and
• 41:16
Speaker 16: the AEP crew comes out and they wheel the boxes
• 41:19
Speaker 16: up a couple of stories and then drop them. And
• 41:21
Speaker 16: the point of the box is that the students have
• 41:24
Speaker 16: tried to create something that will keep their pumpkin from
• 41:27
Speaker 16: cracking when it falls to the cement. And so it's
• 41:29
Speaker 16: really fun to see what kids have come up with.
• 41:32
Speaker 16: I can tell you right now that strapping pillows around
• 41:34
Speaker 16: the pumpkin is not a winning strategy, but it's really
• 41:38
Speaker 16: neat to see what kids design, and our faculty have
• 41:41
Speaker 16: put it together now for several years. We just we
• 41:43
  Speaker 16: love the event.
• 41:44
Speaker 3: And my man Steve Animal from her sister station nine
• 41:46
Speaker 3: eighty seven of the Mountain Wild, a wonderful classic rock.
• 41:49
Speaker 3: I talked to Steve a little bit earlier this morning.
• 41:50
Speaker 3: I think he's planning on being there. He sort of
• 41:52
Speaker 3: serves as an MC or something like.
• 41:54
Speaker 16: That, and that what he does, he does. He's great
• 41:57
Speaker 16: with the kids. He's really engaged because he is a kid.
• 41:59
  Speaker 4: That's why.
• 42:01
Speaker 16: He's a lot of fun. Steve comes out almost every
• 42:04
Speaker 16: year for the Pumpkin Drop. We really appreciate his support
• 42:06
Speaker 16: and it's fun to have somebody kind of keep it
• 42:09
Speaker 16: going and give us the running commentary if it craft
• 42:12
  Speaker 16: or not.
• 42:13
Speaker 3: And that's October seventeenth over at the Gomart Ballpark.
• 42:16
  Speaker 4: Is that right?
• 42:17
  Speaker 16: That's right?
• 42:17
  Speaker 4: All right?
• 42:18
Speaker 3: Speaking of which, I got to tell you that we're
• 42:20
Speaker 3: brought to you part by your hometown baseball team, the
• 42:21
Speaker 3: Charleston Dirty Birds. The Birds won last night, Doctor Sachson,
• 42:25
Speaker 3: the playoffs. They won their game one at Gomart Ballpark,
• 42:27
Speaker 3: so they played Game two tonight, also here in Charleston.
• 42:30
Speaker 3: Tickets available dirty birds baseball dot com. The game starts
• 42:32
Speaker 3: tonight at six thirty five. Same promotions as last night.
• 42:36

• 42:40
Speaker 3: beers two plus. You can bring your dogs out. I
• 42:43
Speaker 3: know that appeals to you, Doctor sax Shure. You can
• 42:45
Speaker 3: bring your dogs out tonight again. They won Game one,
• 42:48
Speaker 3: so they play again against Gastonia tonight six thirty five,

• 42:54
Speaker 3: if you'd like more information. And while we're talking about
• 42:57
Speaker 3: sports master of segues here, you are still getting ready
• 43:01
Speaker 3: for your golf tournament which has happened in Little Creek
• 43:03
Speaker 3: and South Charleston on October twenty first.
• 43:05
Speaker 16: We are everybody listening. Please consider this your formal invitation.
• 43:09
Speaker 16: We'd love for you to have a foursome in our
• 43:11
Speaker 16: golf tournament. It's supporting our Student Opportunity Fund. So, as
• 43:15
Speaker 16: many of you know, students could be a flat tire
• 43:18
Speaker 16: away from dropping out of school, and we really don't
• 43:20
Speaker 16: want that for anybody that we know that school is
• 43:23
Speaker 16: the best way to get the education you need to
• 43:25
Speaker 16: get back into the workforce, and so we want to
• 43:28
Speaker 16: try and eliminate barriers for people, and so raising money
• 43:32
Speaker 16: for the Student Opportunity Fund is just a terrific way
• 43:34
Speaker 16: to do that. And what a better way to give
• 43:37
Speaker 16: back to the community than just getting to play around
• 43:39
  Speaker 16: at golf.
• 43:40
Speaker 3: Sounds good, Doctor Saxon. It's always a pleasure to have
• 43:43
Speaker 3: you on the show. We'll talk again soon and I'm
• 43:45
Speaker 3: definitely looking forward. I've never been to the Pumpkin Drop.
• 43:47
Speaker 3: I've got it on my cannar October seventeenth. I may come
• 43:49
Speaker 3: over there and hang out with Steve a little bit
• 43:50
Speaker 3: over at the ballpark.
• 43:51
Speaker 4: Looking forward to have you, Dave. Thank you all right,

  Speaker 4: Thanks Lott.
